TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD STARTED BREAKING AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BOLTS HOLDING THE MANIFOLD IN PLACE HAD RUSTED AND BROKEN OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 291,000.

IN MAY WAS AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I ACCELERATED AND THE PLUG BLEW AT SECONDS LATER I GOT IT TOWED TO THE SHOP FIXED IT WITH THE HELI-COIL KIT DAYS LATER AS I WAS GOING UP A STEEP HILL HEARD A POPPING SOUND BROUGHT IT RIGHT TO THE SHOP ANOTHER PLUG WAS READY TO EJECT THEY PULLED ALL PLUGS ANTI SEIZED THEM GOOD FOR A COUPLE MONTHS NOW IN SEPT IT IS READY TO LOSE ANOTHER PLUG. I PURCHASED MY 1999 FORD F-150 4X 4 WITH A TRITON 5.4 V-8 ENGINE USED. THE ENGINE HAD APPROXIMATELY 140,000 WHEN I PURCHASED IT. I ONLY DRIVE IT TO AND FROM WORK IN LAS VEGAS, NV (APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES ROUND TRIP) AT SPEEDS BELOW 50 MPH. THE ENGINE BLEW THE BACK PLUG AT 163,000. BECAUSE IT WAS THE BACK PLUG THE LABOR TO REPAIR WAS HIGH (PULL THE ENGINE). THE DIFFERENCE IN PUTTING HELICOILS (ALL EIGHT PLUGS) IN AND A NEW ENGINE WAS NOT THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE SO I ORDER A LONG BLOCK FULL ENGINE FROM FORD WITH STIPULATIONS IT CORRECTED THE DESIGN FLAW. THE ENGINE COST ALMOST $7000 WHEN ALL WAS DONE AND COMPLETE. FORD WARRANTY THE ENGINE 3 YEARS AND 75,000 MILES. I FIGURED THIS CORRECTED THE ISSUES WITH THE SPARK PLUGS BLOWING OUT. WELL AT THE 4 YEAR POINT AND APPROXIMATE 25,000 MILES THE NEW ENGINE BLEW A PLUG. FORD AND THE DEALER (WHOM WE PURCHASED THE ENGINE FROM) SAY IT IS OUR PROBLEM. THE DEALER (PARTS MANAGER) ACTUALLY SAID SINCE I WAS NOT A FREQUENT CUSTOMER AND HAD PURCHASED THE TRUCK USED THEY DID NOT SEE A WAY TO HELP. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND BELIEVE IT IS DESIGN FLAW IN THE HEAD. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING STEEL INSERTS PUT IN ALL OF THE SPARK PLUG HOLES SO I MIGHT GET USE OUT OF A HEFTY INVESTMENT IN A MOTOR WITH A KNOWN ISSUE WHICH FORD WILL NOT BACK. I TOOK MY F-150 IN FOR A RECALL ON THE FUEL TANK STRAPS RUSTING, THE DEALERSHIP WAS NICK NICHOLAS FORD IN INVERNESS, FLORIDA. THEY TOLD ME MY FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING FROM RUST. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF FIXING IT. MY COMPLAINT IS IF THE STRAPS RUSTED AND CAUSED THE TANK TO RUST AND LEAK AT THE AREA WHERE THE STRAPS TOUCH THE TANK. WHY ISN'T THE TANK INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? 1999 FORD F-150. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL REPAIRS NOT BEING COMPLETED *TGW THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT ONE OF THE TWO STRAPS WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED AND JUST HANGING THERE AND NOT SUPPORTING ANYTHING. THEREFORE, THE GAS TANK WAS BEING HELD IN PLACE BY ONLY ONE STRAP. THE DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIRS DUE TO THE CORROSION, AS IT HAD AFFECTED THE FRAME WHERE THE GAS TANK ATTACHED TOO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR BOARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. FORTUNATELY, I WAS UNDER 1/2 MILE FROM MY HOUSE. MY ROAD DEAD ENDS ONTO ANOTHER. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I APPROACHED THE STOP SIGN. I WENT THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AND INTO THE DRAINAGE DITCH ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS 4 WHEEL DRIVE, I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE DITCH AND RETURN HOME. UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE THAT GOES FROM THE FRONT TO THE REAR WAS RUSTED AND FAILED. THERE WAS LITTLE DAMAGE FROM THE CRASH, JUST A FENDER THAT NEEDS REPLACED. I AM ANAL WITH REGARD TO MY VEHICLES CONDITION AND MAINTENANCE. TO HAVE A FAILURE LIKE THIS ON A WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST BUILT TRUCK IS ABSURD AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL WOULD FEEL SPONGY AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT GOING TO STOP. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE DEALER ALSO REPAIRED THE LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE BUT NOT THE AIR THAT WAS BEING RELEASED AND CAUSING THE BRAKES TO NOT PERFORM PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE DEFECT WAS NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 204,000.

FRONT BRAKES:: GRADUAL UNKNOWN BRAKING DEGRADATION OVER TIME UNTIL IT GOT TO THE POINT I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES LIKE AS IF A BRAKE LINE WAS SUCKING AIR OR THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS GOING BAD, IN ORDER TO STOP. UPON INVESTIGATING I FOUND THAT BOTH DUST SHIELDS ON THE FRONT BRAKES WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED AND THE RUST PIECES WERE FALLING BETWEEN THE FRONT INBOARD BRAKE PADS AND REAR ROTOR SURFACES CAUSING EXTREME CONTAMINATION OF THE BACKSIDE OF BOTH ROTORS TO THE POINT THAT LESS THAN 50% CONTACT SURFACE WAS LEFT. SINCE THE INBOARD BRAKE PADS DO MORE STOPPING THAN THE OUTSIDE BRAKE PADS IT'S A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TO ADD TO THE DANGER THE FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM DOES ABOUT 75% OF A VEHICLES TOTAL BRAKING. AND, IF IT HAPPENS ON A LONG DOWN HILL GRADE WITH ALLOT OF BRAKING, IT CAN CAUSE THE FRONT BRAKE FLUID TO BOIL INSIDE THE CALIPERS GIVING SOMEONE ONE HELL-OF-A WILD RIDE. IN FACT, ONE DAY I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES WITHOUT HAVING TIME TO PUMP THEM AND JUST ABOUT HIT A KID ON A BIKE THAT DARTED OUT FROM BETWEEN 2 CARS. THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED I HAD BETTER DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I SUSPECT FORD HAS BEEN LOVING IT BECAUSE NON-MECHANICAL PEOPLE WILL NEVER KNOW OR FIND OUT AND FORD WILL JUST RIP PEOPLE OFF FOR A MAJOR BRAKE OVERHAUL IN THE TUNE OF $600.00 AND THROW EVERYTHING AWAY SO NOBODY WILL EVER KNOW. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE IT'S SUCH A GRADUAL DEGRADATION OF BRAKING. THE FIX IS TO REPLACE BOTH DUST SHIELDS (FORD P/N= 2L3Z - 2K004 - AA) "THE PRIMARY CAUSE" OF THE PROBLEM. I TOOK MANY PICTURES WITH MY DIGITAL CAMERA OF ALL THE COMPONENTS AND CAN E-MAIL THEM TO NHTSA . I ALSO HAVE ALL THE FRONT BRAKE COMPONENTS; 2 ROTORS, 4 BRAKE PADS, 2 DUST SHIELDS. MY REAR DOORS ON MY FORD, F-150 CREW CAB PICKUP STOPPED OPENING. THIS IS AN ENTRAPMENT ISSUE AND A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT, PASSENGERS IN THE REAR WOULD BE TRAPPED AND UNABLE TO ESCAPE. FROM THE RESEARCH I FOUND ON THE INTERNET, THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE CABLE MECHANISM THAT OPERATES THE REAR DOOR LATCHES AND COMMON FAULT WITH THESE TYPE OF DOOR FOR THE FORD PICKUPS MANUFACTURED AROUND THIS TIME FRAME. AND IT LOOKS LIKE FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS FOR FORD TO REPAIR DUE TO THE ENTRAPMENT ISSUE.

MY VEHICLE FAILED PA STATE INSPECTION DUE TO ROTTED OUT CORNERS OF THE FENDERS & RADIATOR SUPPORT ASSY. AND IS DEEMED UN-DRIVABLE AND UN-USABLE EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION . THIS ASSY GOES ACROSS THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, HOLDS THE RADIATOR & AID COND CORES IN THE MIDDLE, AND ATTACHES TO BOTH FRONT BENDERS VIA SPOT WELDS AND IT'S LOWER CORNERS ATTACH TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK VIA SHOCK MOUNTS AND 2 LARGE BOLTS THUS ALSO SUPPORTING THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE TRUCK ATTACHING IT TO THE FRAME . WITH BOTH LOWER CORNERS OF THIS ASSY ROTTED AWAY THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK IS NOW FLOATING & SUSPENDED AND IS NOW NOT ATTACHED TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK THUS THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AND ESPECIALLY ON IMPACT IF IN A FRONTAL ACCIDENT . THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE ON F150'S ALL THE WAY UP TO 2006 . THE "CAUSE" OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PLASTIC FENDER WELLS DO NOT COME DOWN FAR ENOUGH IN THE FRONT SO WATER, SNOW, SLUSH, AND SALT ARE FLUNG FORWARD BY THE FRONT TIRES AND HIT THE BACK SIDE OF THE FRONT BUMPER AND THEN ARE DIRECTED BACK INTO THE FENDERS & RADIATOR SUPPORT ASSY WHICH IS AN OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL ON THE BOTTOM WITH NO DRAIN HOLES . SINCE THE WATER, SNOW, SLUSH, AND SALT LAY IN THIS OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL IT JUST ROTS THE CORNERS OUT . THIS IS PURELY A DESIGN PROBLEM 2 WAYS; 1. FENDER WELLS TOO SHORT IN THE FRONT 2. NO DRAIN HOLES IN THE OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL 3. THE ENTIRE ASSY OF POOR STEEL QUALITY AND NOT PRESERVED WITH RUST PROOFING SO NOW I HAVE A LOW MILEAGE 1999 F150 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION THAT'S UN-USABLE !!! I HAVE A 1999 FORD F-150 EXTENDED CAB THERE IS A CRACK IN THE METAL AREA NEXT TO THE WINDOW AREA ON BOTH BIG DOORS. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT CERTAIN MODEL YEARS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. THESE CRACKS ARE GETTING WORSE. SINCE I FOUND THIS I LOOK AT OTHER FORD TRUCKS AND ON CERTAIN YEARS I BELIEVE 1999-2003 OR 2004 ON THE EXT .CABS THAT THESE CRACKS APPEAR ON EITHER ONE SIDE AND CERTAIN YEARS ON BOTH SIDES. I HAVE CALLED FORD BUT THEY WILL NOT RESPOND. I CAN FAX YOU A PICTURE OF THESE CRACKS IF YOU LIKE. I BELIEVE THESE CRACKS HAVE BEEN THERE SINCE MANUFACTURE DATE. *JB

The contact owned a 1999 Ford F-150. The contact stated that he had parked the vehicle and was standing outside of the vehicle, between the driver's side door and the vehicle; however, the vehicle reversed independently at 5-7 MPH onto the highway. The contact's back was slammed against the pole of a speed limit sign and he hit his face against the door. The contact stated that he was crushed between the driver's side door and the speed limit sign. The contact was released by emergency units and was transported to the hospital by air ambulance. The contact was diagnosed with a partly broken face, broken nose, broken eyes socket, broken teeth on the left side of the face, fractured skull, right and left clavicle fracture, 4-5 ribs fracture, which led to lung failure, hematoma in the abdomen, spinal damage. Additionally, the contact was on life support for four months. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The contact was unsure whether the vehicle was totaled. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 98V192000 (Vehicle Speed Control); however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to send documentation pertaining to the failure along with medical bills and records. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT I HAD NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING OR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. ON THE EVENING OF JUNE 9, 2005 AS I WAS BRAKING AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING LOT I NOTICED THAT MY TRUCK SEEMED TO SKID. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ABS SYSTEM SINCE THE ROAD WAS WET. THERE WAS A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, BUT I WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT RUNNING INTO ANY OTHER VEHICLE. BECAUSE I DID NOT REALIZE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AT THAT TIME I CONTINUED INTO THE PARKING LOT, AND MADE ANOTHER RIGHT TURN INTO THE PARKING SPACE. AT THAT TIME THE TRUCK DID THE SAME THING; IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS SKIDDING. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER TIRES WERE POINTED IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, SO I KNEW THAT A TIE ROD HAD COME DETACHED. AFTER TOWING THE TRUCK HOME I INSPECTED IT, AND REALIZED THAT THE PASSENGER INNER TIE ROD HAD SEPARATED AT THE BALL JOINT. INSPECTION OF THE JOINT REVEALED THAT BOTH PIECES WERE SIGNIFICANTLY RUSTED. I HAVE REPLACED THE INNER AND OUTER TIE ROD ENDS ON BOTH SIDES AS A PRECAUTION, SINCE I DID NOT KNOW IF THE OTHERS WOULD DO THE SAME THING.

TOOK TO A MECHANIC ON MONDAY AND SAID THERE IS AN OIL LEAK, SEEPAGE COMING FROM HEAD GASKET. THE HEATER CORE NEEDS REPLACED, BUT WHY OIL LEAK IS HAPPENING NOT SURE. WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE ABOUT $3500.00 TO REPAIR ONLY HEAD GASKET AND HEATER CORE. THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 127,00 MILES ON IT AND ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE TIMELY. RESEARCHED THIS ON INTERNET AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. THERE WAS EVEN AN ARTICLE IN AUTOMOTIVE NEWS ON 4/1/2002 REGARDING THIS ISSUE, AND ACCORDING TO WRITTEN ARTICLE FORD WAS FIXING THE PROBLEM FOR CONSUMERS. I CALLED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME NO. THIS IS A HUGE EXPENSE, AND WITH THIS MANY COMPLAINTS AND ARTICLE THAT SAYS FORD IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND NO ONE CAN HELP. PRETTY MUCH EITHER FIX THE HEAD GASKETS AND HOPE IT WORKS, OR WAS TOLD NEW ENGINE NEEDED. IF THIS IS AN ISSUE, AND CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I HAVE ANY RECOURSE IN GETTING FORD TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS WHOLE EPISODE HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN MY 1999 FORD F-150. I DID START TO NOTICE THAT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN TO MATCH TRAFFIC SPEEDS, THE TRUCK WOULD VEER TO THE LEFT.THE BRAKES DID TAKE IN A FUNNY WAY AND THANK GOD THERE WAS NO COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. AFTER 30 MILES, I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY TO TURN AROUND AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP SIGN, I COULD NOT STOP AT ALL. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK EVEN AFTER I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I ALSO SMELLED BURNING RUBBER COMING FROM NEAR THE ENGINE.THE PARKING BRAKE DID WORK AND I LIMPED INTO THE NEAREST GAS STATION. I CALLED AAA TO GET IT TOWED TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE SHOP NEAR MY HOUSE THAT HAS DONE ALL MY TIRE AND AUTO REPAIR NEEDS FOR OVER 15 YEARS. WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT AFTER THE 2 HOUR TOW, THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING AGAIN. ROBERT/FIRESTONE TOOK THE WHEELS OFF AND AFTER EXAMINING THE ROTORS/PADS ADVISED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT PADS HAD LOCKED AND WERE PRESSING UNEVENLY ON THE ROTOR. HE ALSO PLANNED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE FLUID HOSE THAT HE THOUGHT WAS WORN OUT AND POSSIBLY LEAKING. I ALSO WENT OVER TO THE FORD DEALER AND CHECKED WITH THEM TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANY RECALLS OR ADVICE. NO RECALLS OR SERVICE NOTICE WAS UNCOVERED. ALL I WAS TOLD WAS TO CHECK THE MASTER CYLINDER AS IT COULD BE LEAKING INTERNALLY. THAT IS ALL I GOT FROM FORD. I AM VERY LUCKY THAT I DID NOT HAVE A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE ON THE FREEWAY POSSIBLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT/INJURY. WE DETERMINED THAT WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULE.FORD DOES NOT MAKE IT ANY MORE AND WE HAD TO SEARCH THE SALVAGE YARDS TO GET THIS PART AS IT IS NIT MADE NAYMORE BY THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURE.VERY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE.WILL NEVER BUY A FORD TRUCK AGAIN. .

SINCE BUYING THE VEHICLE NEW FROM MY LOCAL FORD DEALER I'VE NOTICE THAT THERE IS VERY EXCESSIVE TRAVEL IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND AN AIR NOISE WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES. WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO CHECK IT OUT I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE BLED. WHEN THIS WOULDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM I WAS TOLD MY FLUID WAS CONTAMINATED AND I WOULD NEED A FLUID FLUSH. THIS ALSO DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. A FEW YEARS AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD WAS UP I WAS TOLD THAT THIS HAPPENS TO FORD TRUCK A LOT AND I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE A PART THAT WAS OVER $800.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I DECLINED THIS WORK STATING IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ON MY PREVIOUS VISITS THAT WERE ALL DOCUMENTED. SINCE THEN THEY ARE BACK TO THE SYSTEM BLEED AND FLUID FLUSH ROUTINE EVERY TIME I MENTION THE ISSUE. TODAY I READ THAT NEWER TRUCKS ARE HAVING BRAKE ISSUES AND I BELIEVE THIS IS NOT JUST A NEWER TRUCK ISSUE BUT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR QUITE SOME TIME.

THE GARAGE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 6 DAYS BEFORE THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY IN FACT COULD NOT PERFORM THE SAFETY UPGRADE BECAUSE THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK HAS TOO MUCH RUST. I BELIEVE THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS RESPONSABLE FOR NOT PROVIDING ADEQUETTE PROTECTION FRO THE ELEMENTS ON THE FRAMES OF THIS MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE. I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE ONLY RESPONSABLE FOR THE GAS TANK STRAPS AND NOT THE FRAME SO THEY WERE NOT REQUIRING THEIR DEALERSHIP TO DO THE UPGRADES. WHEN MY BEST FRIENDS 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA HAD THE SAME EACT PROBLEM ON HIS TRUCK THE TOYOTA COMPANY PAID TO PUT A NEW FRAME ON HIS TRUCK DUE TO A RECALL OF THE FRAME. THE REST OF MY FORD TRUCK IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND HAS AROUND 120,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD NO OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK EXCEPT FOR THE FRAME. THE STRAP ON OUR FORD F 150 THAT HOLDS UP OUR GAS TANK BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPON LOOKING AT THE FRAME IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS RUSTED OUT VERY BADLY AND COULD BE A DRIVING HAZARD TO DRIVE. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF COMPLETELY GETTING A NEW FRAME PUT UNDER THE TRUCK. THIS TRUCK IS ONLY TEN YEARS OLD AND WE THINK FORD SHOULD HAVE SOME RESPONSIBILITY IN FIXING THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A ONE OWNER AND WE HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. I HAD A SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF THE HEAD ON MY TRUCK. IT IS A 1999 FORD F-150, WITH A 5.4 LITER TRITON V-8 ENGINE. I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS, UNTIL THE MECHANIC AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD SEEN IT BEFORE. ALSO AT AN EARLIER DATE THE SHEET METAL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ABOUT THREE INCHES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW CRACKED. ITS HAS CRACKED TWO MORE TIMES SINCE THEN. THEY (FORD MOTOR CO.) FINALLY PUT A NEW DOOR SKIN ON, BUT A MAN WHO I KNOW THAT RUNS A BODY SHOP SAID IT'S IN THE DOOR ITSELF AND THAT A SKIN WOULDN'T PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. I HAVE HAD MY F150 FOR 7 YEARS AND HAVE HAD VERY FEW PROBLEMS. BAD FUEL INJECTOR AND THE RECALL FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL. I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY WIPERS COMING ON BY THEMSELVES. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER (COLUMBIA FORD, LONGVIEW,WA) AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND FOUND YOUR TSB 00-9-6 WHICH DESCRIBES THIS PROBLEM TO A TEE. I CALLED THE DEALER BACK AND WAS ADVISED I WOULD HAVE TO ABSORB THE ENTIRE COST FOR THE REPAIR? SINCE THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2000 AND DID NOT RECALL FOR THIS BAD SWITCH (SEE YOUR TSB) "INSTALL REVISED MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH" DO I HAVE ANY RECOURSE IN THIS MATTER. LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH RECALLED LAST YEAR IS THERE A CHANCE OF FIRE? IT CAN BE DISCONCERTING TO BE DRIVING ALONG IN 90 DEGREE WEATHER AND HAVE YOUR WIPERS TURN ON BY THEMSELVES. WATER WAS GETTING DOWN INTO THE DASHBOARD AND CAUSING WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO STOP. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORK NORMAL WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN NEUTRAL OR PARK. *AK THE WIPERS WOULD ONLY WORK ON LOW, THE RADIO WOULD CUT OFF WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN WHICH WOULD HAPPEN AFTER 10 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T TURN OVER. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT HARNESS ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AT THE STARTER ASSEMBLY. THERE WAS A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH, AND THE THEFT LIGHT FLASHED. THE MECHANIC FOUND A BAD GEM MODULE WHICH ALSO CAUSED THE BLOWER TO STAY ON AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TURN SIGNALS, BRAKE LIGHTS, AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON MY 1999 FORD F-150. ON A RECENT TRIP TO INDIANA I NOTICED THAT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TILTED DOWN SO THAT MY WIFE COULD DRIVE, THE TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING. WHILE IN INDIANA A MAN WAS NICE ENOUGH TO FLAG ME DOWN TO LET ME KNOW THAT MY BREAK LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO EBY FORD SALES (JUNE 6, 2003) IN GOSHEN FOR REPAIR. THEY INDICATED THAT THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH DISCONNECTED WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TILTED DOWN. SO THEY LENGTHENED THE CONNECTOR ASSEMBLY WIRES AND THAT SEEMS TO HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. ON DECEMBER 17, 2001, I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO PRINCE FORD IN DOUGLAS GEORGIA AND TOLD THEM THAT MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD JUST COME ON FOR NO REASON. THEY REPLACED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH BUT DID NOT LENGTHEN THE WIRES.ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT EBBY FORD, THIS MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH CONTROLS SEVERAL VITAL FUNCTIONS ON THE TRUCK - BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, WIPERS, ETC. *AK SEVERAL THINGS ARE WORTH NOTING HERE: FIRST, I CALLED AND TALKED WITH PRICE FORD IN GEORGIA AND ASKED WHY THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH WIRES WERE NOT LENGTHENED WHEN THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED BY THEM THE FIRST TIME (DECEMBER 17, 2001). THEY HAVEN'T EVEN CALLED ME BACK. SECOND, I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOTE THE PROBLEM BUT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME. FINALLY, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS CRASHES RESULTING FROM THE FACT THAT THE SWITCH WIRES ON THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ASSEMBLY IS NOT LONG ENOUGH AND THAT THE SWITCH DISCONNECTS WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TILTED DOWN. IT WOULD BE A TRADGEDY IF JUST ONE PERSON LOST THEIR LIVES BECAUSE THE BREAK LIGHTS OR TURN SIGNALS FAILED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THANKS FOR LOOKING INTO THIS FOR ME.

I PURCHASED A 1999 F150 ON 5/9/00. I RECENTLY BOUGHT NEW TIRES FOR MY TRUCK AND FOUND OUT THAT ONE OF THE WHEELS WAS BENT ON THE INSIDE. I THEN PROCEDED TO PUT ON MY SPARE TIRE AND NOTICED THAT THE SPARE TIRE WAS A DIFFERENT SIZE THAN WHAT WAS ON THE TRUCK WHEN I PURCHASED IT. THE SIZE ON THE TRUCK IS 255/ 70R 16. MANUFACTURER REQUIRED SIZE IS 235/70R/16. I BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM TO THE SELLING DEALER AND SET AN APPOINTMENT FOR THEM TO TAKE A LOOK. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN OCTOBER 1998. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS WHILE DRIVING LONG DISTANCE OVER A HOLIDAY WEEK. INITIALLY IT WAS ONLY THE WIPERS THAT WOULD TURN ON THEN OFF WITHOUT MANUALLY DOING SO. THIS HAS GONE ON FOR NEARLY 15YRS. MOST RECENTLY, THE WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF AND ACTUALLY NOW TURN ON AT A FASTER RATE ON THEIR OWN, WINDOW WASHER FLUID CONTROL IS VERY SENSITIVE AND WILL TURN ON WITH A LIGHT TOUCH TO THE TURN INDICATOR AND WON'T TURN OFF, THE DASH DISPLAY WILL TURN OFF, AND THE RADIO DISPLAY IS NOT WORKING (RADIO WORKS). WE HAVE FOUND THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAS TO BE SET AT THE TOP POSITION IN ORDER FOR THE WIPERS TO NOT TURN ON AS MUCH (IT IS VERY FREQUENT NOW). WE HAD THE TRUCK LOOKED AT WITHIN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP BY THE FORD DEALER FOR THE WIPER ISSUE, AND NOTHING WAS FOUND TO RESOLVE. AFTER READING THROUGH OTHER FILED COMPLAINTS, I AM HOPING THAT THE TRUCK WILL NOT BURST INTO FLAMES DUE TO THE FAULTY ELECTRICAL GOING ON IN THE PANEL AND STEERING.

APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AGO (10/2014) I NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 1999 FORD F-150 WERE NOT WORKING. A FEW TIMES ONCE I RETURNED TO HOME I NOTICED THAT WHEN I SHIFTED THE TRUCK INTO PARK, THE HEADLIGHTS CAME ON. IT DID NOT APPEAR TO MATTER IF THE HIGH BEAM OR LOW BEAM LIGHTS WERE ACTIVATED. I STARTED TO INSPECT THE HEADLIGHT OPERATION AND NOTICED THAT WHEN I TILTED THE STEERING WHEEL TO IT'S LOWEST POSITION, TYPICALLY IT'S OPERATING POSITION, THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF. WHEN I TILTED THE WHEEL UP SLIGHTLY TO THE NEXT POSITION, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME ON. TODAY, 10/19/2014 I REMOVED THE TRIM AROUND THE STEERING COLUMN AND NOTICED THAT THERE ARE TWO WIRES THAT HAVE BROKEN AND SEPARATED FROM THE WIRING HARNESSES THAT ATTACH TO THE TURN SIGNAL ASSEMBLY AND SEVERAL CONTACTS THAT ARE LOOSE IN THE UPPER HARNESS. I HAVE TAKEN PHOTOS AND A VIDEO SHOWING THE PARTS THAT ARE LOOSE AND OR BROKEN. BECAUSE THESE BROKEN WIRES AND CONTACTS ARE LOOSE AND AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE HEADLIGHTS, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE RISK OF A SHORT OR SPARKS THAT THEY COULD CREATE AND WITHOUT FULLY OPERATIONAL HEADLIGHTS, THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE. SOMETIMES WHEN THE BLOWER FAN IS BEING USED IT DOES NOT GO OF WHEN THE IGNITION KEY IS TURNED OFF AND REMOVED, THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THIS PROBLEM IS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION, THEN ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND LOUD. MECHANIC STATED THAT DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGN, THE #7 SPARK PLUG HAD BEEN SHOT FROM THE ENGINE, DAMAGINE THE IGNITION COIL AND ALLOWING FUEL TO SPRAY FROM THE INJECTORS ONTO THE NOW LOOSE SPARK PLUG. 1999 FORD F150 2WD TRUCK WITH 80,000 MILES THE FUEL TANK FELL OUT OF THE TRUCK. UPON INVESTIGATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS HAS CORRODED APART. WHEN RE-INSTALLING NEW STRAPS, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL FILL TUBE WAS CORRODED, AS WELL, WITH SEVERAL HOLES IN IT. ALSO, WHILE RE-ATTACHING FUEL TANK IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR THREE CROSS-MEMBERS WERE ON THERE WAY TO CORRODING INTO TWO PIECES, AND HAD ALREADY COMPLETELY BROKEN IN OTHER PLACES. UPON REMOVAL OF PICK-UP TRUCK BED FOR EXAMINATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR SPRING SHACKLE PINS HAD CORRODED AWAY, LEAVING NO SUPPORT. FURTHER, THE FRAME RAILS WERE CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THEY COULD BE BENT BY HAND- NO TOOLS USED! THIS SHOULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY RECALL BY FORD AS AN UNSUSPECTING USER HAULING A TRAILER MAY LOOSE THEIR TRAILER, DESPITE SAFETY CHAINS ATTACHED, CAUSING INJURY, OR DEATH, AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. AN UNSUSPECTING DRIVER WOULD ALSO BE SUBJECT TO THE FUEL TANK FALLING OFF THE TRUCK, WHILE DRIVING. IT COULD BURST INTO FLAMES, DUE TO HOT EXHAUST, OR ROAD SPARKS. I PURCHASED A 1999 FORD F150 FROM KINGS AUTO MALL NEAR CINCINNATI. THE TRUCKS AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON AND I DID NOT KNOW WHAT THIS MEANT UNTIL AFTER I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. I HAD IT IN THE DEALERS SHOP TO FIX THE A/C AND HAVE OTHER ITEMS LOOKED AT. THEY STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY AIR BAG SWITCH. THIS IS THE SWITCH THAT TURNS OFF THE AIR BAG WHEN SMALL CHILDREN ARE RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE DEALERSHIP HAD PLACED A STICKER ON THE PASSENGER WINDOW STATING THAT THE TRUCK HAD BEEN SAFETY CHECKED. BUT YET I PURCHASED A TRUCK THAT COULD HAVE KILLED MY 4 YEAR OLD IF THE AIR BAG HAD WENT OFF. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY WILL ONLY PAY FOR HALF OF THE REPAIR FOR FIXING THE SWITCH. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING IN AUGUST 2004. WITHIN A MONTH OF THE CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONING THE ABS SENSOR ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD, AND THE HEATER STOPPED WORKING. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO THE POWER DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING. FAILURE OF FRONT END STERRING PARTS( BALL JOINTS, TIE RODS, AND IDLER ARM). ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS MY MECHANIC HAS INSTRUCTED ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE THE FRONT END CHECK FOR WEAR AND TEAR DUE TO PREMATURE FAILURES IN THESE PARTS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IN THE PAST 3 YEARS (@ABOUT 20K MILES PER YEAR) I HAVE HAD MAJOR REPLACEMENTS DONE ON THESE PARTS. I DO NOT BELEIVE THE FAILURE IS DUE TO DRIVING CONDITIONS, MOST IS AT HIGH WAYS SPEEDS ON REASONABLY SMOOTH ROADS. THE LATEST FAILURE HAS ME VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE OVERALL SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AS I TYPICAL DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. MY MECHANIC INDICATED IF A FAILURE OCCURS AT HIGHWAYS SPEEDS - IT MIGHT NOT BE A GREAT OUTCOME... I FEEL I AM LUCKY IN THAT EVERY TIME I GO TO THE MECHANIC (SERVERAL TIMES PER YEAR) I HAVE HIM CHECK THESE PARTS. I RECENTLY RECEIVED AN INSPECTION IN JUNE 2004 AND THESE PARTS WERE OK THEN. NOW (MAR 2005) AND I HAVE A MAJOR REPLACEMENT GOING ON. THE MACHANIC INDICATED THAT I AM NOT ALONE AND THE PROBLEM IS VERY WIDE SPREAD. DO NOT GET ME WRONG - I REALLY LIKE THE TRUCK AND WOULD BUY ANOTHER, BUT SO FAR DEALERS (2 LOCAL) INDICATE THAT MY PROBLEMS ARE NOT AS WIDE SPREAD. HENCE I NO LONGER GO TO FORD DEALERS FOR SERVICE. THE MECHANIC HAS ALSO INDICATED THAT THIS ISSUE MAY BE LARGER IN SCOPE THANT THE FIRESTONE TIRE ISSUES FORD HAD YEARS AGO (SPECULATION). BUT NONE THE LESS - MY MECHANIC HAS SEEN MANY OF THESE ISSUES AND HE IS A SMALL OPERATION IN A SMALL TOWN. I BOUGHT THE 99 F-150 USED. I'VE OWNED IT FOR 2 YEARS AND IN THOSE TWO YEARS SPENT OVER 3000 DOLLARS REPAIRING IT. I CANT HANDLE THE THOUGHT OF KEEPING A TRUCK THAT COST SO MUCH IN REPAIRS. FRONT WINDSHIELD-THE WINDSHIELD WOULD RATTLE GOING DOWN THE FREEWAY EVERYTIME WE WOULD BE IN THE TRUCK. TOOK IT IN TO ADVISE THE DEALERSHIP AND ALL THEY DID WAS RESEAL IT. TOOK IT IN AGAIN THE SECOND TIME AND THEY DID THE SAME THING. AFTER THE THIRD TIME I MADE THEM PUT IN A NEW WINDSHIELD. 2 WEEKS AGO THIS CRACKED IN HALF. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THERE IS A CRACK ON THE DRIVERSIDE DOOR WHERE THE WIDOWSILL STARTS TO CURVE. I HAVE HAD IT WELDED ONCE AND IT REAPPEARED THE SAME DAY I GOT MY TRUCK HOME. THE AIR CONDITIONER SMELLS LIKE MOLD WHENEVER I USE IT. IT HAS BEEN WORKED ON FIVE TIMES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT IT STILL PERSISTS.
