THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE AT UNPREDICTABLE TIMES WHEN STOPPED. I ACTUALLY ROLLED OUT INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKES BEFORE I REALIZED I HAD NO POWER. IT WAS A CLOSE CALL. RESEARCH I HAVE DONE INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. *TR

(AUTO DESCRIPTION) 1995 FORD TAURUS 3.0 LITER ENGINE WITH 45,000 MILES. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. (1) NO EVENT LEADING TO FAILURE. (2) TRANSMISSION NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATES #2 CLUTCH FAILURE. LONG DELAY GETTING INTO DRIVE FROM REVERSE. CAR LURCHES UPON START-UP. CAR DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY FROM 2ND GEAR INTO 3RD GEAR. TRANSMISSION GENERALLY UNRELIABLE. TRANSMISSION HAS NOT COMPLETELY FAILED YET. (3) HAD DIAGNOSTICS PERFORMED. RECOMMENDED REPAIR IS TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $3,000. MY 1995 FORD TAURUS GL HAS WENT THROUGH 3 TRANSMISSIONS IN THE PAST 6 YEARS. THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION CAN NOT BE REBUILT. I AM TIRED OF SPENDING MONEY TO KEEP THIS CAR RUNNING WHEN THE ONLY PIECE THAT KEEPS GOING OUT IS THE DREADED AX4N TRANSMISSION USED IN THIS VEHICLE. IS THERE NOT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION THAT WILL WORK IN THIS CAR?

THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. HOWEVER, IT IS IN NEED OF THE FORTH TRANSMISSION, AND THE CASE IS CRAKED. THE DEALER STATES THAT THEY WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FORTH TRANSMISSION. THE FIRST REPLACEMENT WAS AT 37,000, THE SECOND WAS 87,000, NOW AT 100,000 THOUSAND MILES THE VEHICLE NEEDS ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHR INFORMATION

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 15-20 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND A LOSS OF STEERING. THE ENGINE FELL AND LANDED ON THE STEERING RODS, WHICH MADE IT EXTREMELY IMPOSSIBLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS NOT WORTH THE REPAIR, AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND INVESTING MONEY INTO THE VEHICLE. A WEEK PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AT A LOCAL MIDAS INSTALLED A NEW MUFFLER. THERE WERE SEVERAL RECALLS LISTED FOR THAT YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE AND FORD WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS ONLY ONE RECALL FOR THE YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE, BUT IN REALITY, THERE WERE SIX. FORD ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER RECALL ON OCTOBER 6, 1999. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE OR HAVE ANY REPAIRS PERFORMED AT THE LOCATION THEY CLAIMED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 103,013. 1995 FORD TAURUS 3.8L STATION WAGON WITH ONLY 28,000 MILES ON IT BLEW THE HEAD GASKET. TODAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2008 WE CALLED BOB DAVIDSON FORD IN TOWSON, FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND FORD EXECUTIVE OFFICES, WHO ALL SAY THEY WILL NOT GIVE ANY ASSISTANCE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE CAR. IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW OLD THE CAR IS, IT ONLY HAS 28,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. FORD SHOULD PAY TO FIX THE CAR OR GIVE SOME DECENT SORT OF ALLOWANCE TO HELP COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. IT HAS BEEN REGULARLY OVER THE YEARS, GENERALLY SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK, BUT NOT FAR, BECAUSE THE OWNER IS ELDERLY. IF IT WAS DRIVEN BY A YOUNGER PERSON, THE PROBLEM WOULD HAVE SHOWN UP YEARS AGO, WELL WITHIN THE 7 YEAR WARRANTY FORD GAVE FOR THIS PROBLEM UNDER FORD SERVICE CAMPAIGN 00M09. WE WANT FORD MOTOR TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. WE ARE WAITING FOR AN ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THE HEAD GASKET FROM BOB DAVIDSON FORD IN TOWSON MD. WE DO NOT EVEN KNOW YET IF THE ENGINE HAS BEEN DAMAGED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING. HE STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED HOWEVER, HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED HOME AND AS OF AUGUST 1, 2007, IT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. 1995 TAURUS FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. *TS THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN BLACK SMOKE STARTED EMITTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER BEFORE THE VEHICLE BECAME TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE CONSUMER SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THAT HER VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR A FAULTY COOLING FAN WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE COOLING FAN. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE BECAUSE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS SO BADLY DAMAGED THEREFORE THEY PROVIDED THE CONSUMER WITH NO ASSISTANCE. *NM

I AM THE OWNER OF A 1995 FORD TAURUS WITH AROUND 64000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE DATE OF 11/27/05 WHEN BLACK SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD, I WAS ONE LIGHT FROM THE WESTBROOK FIRE DEPARTMENT SO MANAGED TO GET TO THE FIREHOUSE AND OFF THE ROAD TO PREVENT ANY OTHER DAMAGE TO OTHERS AROUND ME. I ENDED UP LOSING MY BRAKES FROM THE FIRE AND EVERY WIRE AND ANYTHING PLASTIC UNDER THE HOOD HAD BEEN DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSE. IT SEEMS THE FIRE HAD BEEN CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND STARTED TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT FORD HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE COOLING FAN CAUSING AN UNDER-HOOD FIRE. I CONTACTED FORD ON 11/28/05 TO VERIFY IF MY VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL AND WAS TOLD YES, BUT I HAD NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED. AFTER THIS I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED IN SEVERAL WORKING DAYS WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. I WAS CONTACTED BY FORD ON 12/13/05 AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO UNTIL A FORD DEALER CHECKED THE CAR TO SEE IF THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE COOLING FAN. ON THE DATE OF 12/14/05 I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HAMMONASSET FORD LINCOLN IN MADISON CT TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THEY LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND SAID THERE WAS SO MUCH DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD, THAT EVERY WIRE HAD MELTED THEY COULD NOT TELL EXACTLY WHERE THE FIRE STARTED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK HOME AND ON 12/20/05 I WAS CONTACTED BY FORD VIA U.S. MAIL AND WAS TOLD DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE THEY WERE UNABLE TO VERIFY A MANUFACTURER''S DEFECT THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS UNABLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AT THIS TIME. EVERY WIRE UNDER THE HOOD IS STRIPPED OF ITS PLASTIC COATING. AND THE PAINT ON THE HOOD IS BURNED OFF RIGHT OVER THE FAN. THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED TO A CAR WITH ONLY 64000 MILES . *JB

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995, FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING PROPERLY. CONTACT COULD NOT TELL HOW FAST HE WAS GOING BECAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING. WHEN GETTING OFF AT THE EXIT THE VEHICLE WAS BEGINNING TO SLOW DOWN. HE THOUGHT THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING. WHILE TRYING TO GET OFF OF THE ROAD SAW SMOKE APPEARING FROM THE RIGHT TIRE ON THE FRONT. SOMEONE CAME UP TO HIM AND HE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR HE LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND SAW FIRE COMING FROM THE GAS TANK. THE AIR INTAKE AND BATTERY MELTED. ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS STILL WORKED BECAUSE IT DID NOT GET INTO THE FIRE WALL. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD ENOUGH TIME TO SALVAGE MOST OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS UNKNOWN WHERE THE FIRE STARTED. THE DOME LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF. WHEN CONTACT NOTICED THESE LIGHTS WERE ON HE TOOK THE FUSE OUT THAT CONTROLS THESE LIGHTS BUT SINCE HE WAS GOING ON A LONG DRIVE . BACK HOME HE PUT THE FUSE BACK IN TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO. THE RECALL PART INVOLVED COOLING SYSTEM CIRCUIT BREAKER. WHILE DRIVING OWNER SAW A PUFF OF BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. AS THE OWNER EXITED THE CAR, A FEW SECONDS LATER, THERE WERE FLAMES COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. LOCAL FIRE DEPTMENT CAME, AND CONDUCTED THEIR OWN INVESTIGATION WHICH DETERMINED THE SAME LOCATION OF THE FIRE. CONSUMER HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH FORD SEVERAL TIMES. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE MALFUNCTIONED. THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT READ THE CORRECT SPEED. IT FAILED PREVIOUSLY ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS AND WAS REPAIRED. AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT COVERED THE SPEEDOMETER WITH PAPER. THIS MADE THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE NOT VIEWABLE AND THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE DOES NOT DISTRACT THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN FOR INSPECTION AND THERE ARE NO PLANS TO MAKE REPAIRS.

FAILURE OF CRUISE CONTROL DISCONNECT SWITCH UNDER THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER - LIKE THE FAILURE CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL FOR FORD TRUCKS. I WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK DUE TO THE INTERLOCK. THE FUSE THAT CONTROLLED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND BRAKES BLEW. WHEN THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE REPAIR FACILITY, THEY FOUND THAT THE DISCONNECT SWITCH AND THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HAD MELTED TO SOME POINT. THE PART HAD TO BE REPLACED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE PRESSURE. THIS OCCURRED WITH NO WARNING. THE TRANSMISSION WAS PUT INTO LOW GEAR AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE PROPORTIONING VALVE FAILED CAUSING A RUPTURE IN THE BRAKE LINE AND LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. THE VALVE AND BRAKE LINE ARE BEING REPLACED.

IT WAS DISCOVERED IN 2005 THAT BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN NEAR THE BOTTOM ON MY 1995 FORD TAURUS. A PORTION OF THE COIL SLIPPED PAST THE BOTTOM SUPPORT OF THE STRUT LEAVING THE SHARP BROKEN EDGE ABOUT 1/4 INCH FROM THE TIRE. IT IS ESPECIALLY WORRISOME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THIS SHARP EDGE WILL PROBABLY PUNCTURE THE TIRE IF THE COIL SPRING SLIPS FURTHER, PAST THE BOTTOM SUPPORT OF THE STRUT. THIS WOULD IMMEDIATELY STOP THE ROTATION OF THE TIRE. AS AN IMPROVEMENT TO THE SITUATION, THE PORTION OF THE BROKEN COIL SPRING NEAR THE TIRE WAS GROUND DOWN GIVING IT ABOUT 1/2 INCH CLEARANCE FROM THE TIRE. THE COIL SPRINGS HAVE NOT YET BEEN REPLACED, BUT REPLACEMENT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAD ABOUT 125,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ON ASPHALT AND CONCRETE ROADS IN AVERAGE CONDITION. COIL SPRINGS SHOULD NOT FAIL IF A CAR IS DRIVEN USING NORMAL CARE. THE VEHICLE'S FRONT SPRINGS FAILED AFTER NEW TIRES WERE INSTALLED ON THE FRONT TWO WHEELS. BOTH SPRINGS SNAPPED IN HALF AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING ON THE FRONT SUSPENSION BROKE AT THE CENTER OF THE SPRING CAUSING THE FRACTURED COIL TO SNAP OUT AND CONTACT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE SIDE WALL. THIS CONDITION CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DROP FROM THE LOSS OF SUPPORT OF THE SPRING AND THEN THE VEHICLE FURTHER DROPPED FROM THE SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE. ALL 4 SUSPENSION COIL SPRINGS BROKE ON OUR 1995 FORD TAURUS. THE DISCOVERY DATE IS LISTED AS THE INCIDENT DATE, YET THE APPEARANCE OF THE BREAK AREAS IS THAT IT IS NOT RECENT. I HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AS RECOMMENDED, AND THE BRAKES ARE NOT VISIBLE FROM BEING THAT HIGH UP ON THE LIFT. THE BRAKES ARE ALSO HIDDEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ON THE GROUND AND SPRINGS COMPRESSED. ONLY WHEN REQUESTING PREVENTIVE INSPECTION OF THE STRUTS (OUTCOME FINE, NOT LEAKING) ON A LIFT AT EYE LEVEL WITH THE SPRINGS EXPANDED ARE THE BRAKES EVIDENT. I LOOKED UP ON NHTSA ONLINE DATABASE AND SEE A RECALL FROM AUGUST 2004 ON 1999-2001 FORD TAURUS. I ALSO SEE EXTENSIVE REPORTING ON THE INTERNET OF SIMILAR BRAKES GOING BACK TO AT LEAST 1993. MY 1995 TAURUS EXPERIENCED A FAILURE OF THE LOWER SUB-FRAME MOUNT RETAINER PLATE. THE RETAINER PLATE HAD BECOME SEVERELY CORRODED OVER TIME AND THIS CORROSION HAD WEAKENED THE RETAINER PLATE ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE BOLT HEAD TO PULL THROUGH THE RETAINER PLATE. THIS FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY LONG TERM EXPOSURE TO MOISTURE FROM NORMAL PRECIPITATION AND CONSISTENT WITH THE FAILURE DETAILED IN THE REASONS FOR RECALL SECTION OF SERVICE RECALL BULLETIN 98S36. THE FORD RECALL BULLETIN STATES THE RETAINING PLATE NUT BECOMES SEVERELY CORRODED FROM LONG TERM EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALTS AND RETENTION OF MOISTURE IN THE MOUNTS. DUE TO CORROSION, MY 1995 TAURUS EXPERIENCED THAT SAME FAILURE BUT THE CORROSION WAS NOT CAUSED BY ROAD SALTS. ALTHOUGH THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT SLOW SPEED, STEERING WAS AFFECTED. HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT HIGH-SPEED OR WHILE CROSSING A SLIGHT BUMP OR DIP IN ROAD SURFACE, STEERING COULD HAVE BECOME DIFFICULT, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A CAUSE OF CONCERN FOR OTHER 1986-1995 TAURUS AND SABLE VEHICLES STILL IN SERVICE. SPEEDOMETER HEAD HAS FAILED AGAIN ON THIS CAR. THE ORIGINAL HEAD FAILED AND WAS REPLACED BY FORD UNDER WARRANTY. THE HEAD THAT WAS INSTALLED HAS NOW FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER AS THE ORIGINAL, THE ORIGINAL PART FAILED AT 29,000 MILES AND THE REPLACEMENT ONE HAS NOW FAILED AT 27,000 MILES. THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLES WAVERS AND FLOATS ALL OVER THE DIAL. SOMETIMES IT JUST PEGS AT 85 MPH WHEN THE ACTUAL SPEED IS 30 MPH OR LESS. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I AM TRAVELING. FORD WANTS FIVE HUNDRED PLUS DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS AGAIN. CALLS TO THE LOCAL DEALER HAVE REVEALED THAT THERE ARE OTHER TAURUS OWNERS WHO HAVE REPLACED NUMEROUS SPEEDOMETER HEADS AND THEY COMMENTED THAT EVEN IF IT IS CHANGED THAT THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART WON'T FAIL AGAIN...IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE FOR FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO EXPECT AN OWNER TO PAY FOR THIS SAFETY RELATED REPAIR WHEN THEY ARE SUPPLYING DEFECTIVE PARTS!

1. THE ENGINE PROBLEM WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET 2. THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WAS A PLANETARY GEAR MELTDOWN. I REPLACED THE PLANETARY GEARSET AND THE FIBER PARTS, PLATES AND SEALS. I ALSO INSTALLED AN AXOD DAM KIT MADE BY SHIFT TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTS TO INCREASE THE LUBRICATION TO THE PLANETARIES. UNFORTUNATELY, THE TRANSMISSION STILL HAS THE SAME DELAYED SHIFTS FROM SECOND TO THIRD AND THIRD TO FOURTH AND A DELAYED AND HARSH THIRD TO SECOND DOWNSHIFT THAT IT ALWAYS HAD (IT WAS MY WIFES CAR WHEN I MET HER AND IT HAD 30000 MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME). 3. RUNS ON THE HOT SIDE EVEN AFTER THE HEAD GASKET CHANGE. I'VE REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT SEEVERAL TIMES AND THE WATER PUMP ONCE AND THE RADIATOR ONCE. I FINALLY REMOVED THE THERMOSTAT AND LET IT RUN WITHOUT ONE AND THE GAGE WILL STILL RUN IN THE MIDDLE. ALSO, THE COOLING FAN WORKS.

VSS HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE, TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REBUILT ONCE, AND SPEEDO GEAR WHICH FITS INTO THE TRANSMISSION HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED ONCE AT CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE. HEAD GASKETS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE, ALSO AT CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE. SPEEDO HAS NOW FAILED FOR THE THIRD TIME.

12/18/96: THE TARAUS I WAS DRIVING WAS HIT IN THE SIDE BY ANOTHER CAR. I WAS THROWN INTO MY SHOULDER HARNESS, WHICH FUNCTIONS MORE AS A "NECK NOOSE". WITHIN 24 HOURS, I HAD SWELLING, BURNING, PAIN IN MY NECK AND SHOULDER WHERE I HAD COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE SHOULDER HARNESS. WHEN MY INJURY WAS ABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED, WHICH TOOK TWO YEARS (2), BEFORE THE "BLOOD FLOW" CHANGED ENOUGH TO BE DIAGNOSED ON A 3-PHASE BONE SCAN AT MAYO CLINIC, I LEARNED I HAD REFLEX SYMPATHETIC DYSTROPHY, ALSO KNOWN AS COMPLEX REGIONAL PAIN SYNDROME.(RSD & CRPS). BOTH ARE KNOWN TO BE THE HIGHEST ON THE MCGILL PAIN INDEX FOR "TYPES OF PAIN", AT LEVEL 42. CANCER IS 28, AND NO PAIN IS 0. WHEN I LEARNED THAT I HAD RSD AND THAT IT BEGAN AT MY NECK INJURY, I CONTACTED FORD'S LEGAL DEPARTMENT, TO ASK THAT THEY CHANGE MY SEAT BELT TO THE NEW DESIGN THEY IMPLEMENTED IN 1996 MODELS (RSD ONLY GOES INTO REMISSION, WHEN TREATABLE. FORD DIDN'T "REFUSE" TO CHANGE MY SEAT BELT, BUT MERELY "IGNORED ME". I SPOKE WITH AND FAXED CHRIS IN THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT. I ASKED THE VP OF FORD, MR. SHEELE, ON 7/11/03 TO MAKE THE SAME REPAIR, WHEN I TOLD HIM OF THE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH SERVICE, QUALITY, AND REPAIR FROM FORD. I HAVE HEARD FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT WITH NO ACTION, HOWEVER I HAVE NEVER HEARD FROM MR. SCHEELE'S OFFICE, REGARDING MY SEAT BELT PROBLEM. FORD KNEW OF A PROBLEM WITH "WHERE" THE SEAT BELTS CROSSED NECKS, WHICH IS WHY THEY CHANGED THE DESIGN IN 1996! ON 12/08/1998 MY FATHER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF HIS LIFE. HE WAS HIT ON THE DIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE BY A SEMI-TRUCK AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH. 'RECALL CAMPAIGN' FORD TAURUS 1995 RECALLED THE ENGINE COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLING CIRCUIT BREAKER. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER REPLACED THE MOTOR AND FAN, BUT NEVER INSTALLED THE BREAKER. THE DEALER FOUND A LEAK IN THE RADIATOR BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE A REPLACEMENT SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER SHOP. AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON JUNE 11. 2002 THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED ON JUNE 28, 2002. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC WHO PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED THE RECALL WORK, STATED THE VEHICLE HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND POSSIBLY A CRACKED HEAD FROM OVERHEATING. THE MECHANIC STATED THE FAN MOTOR DID NOT CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. THE CONSUMER STATED HE LEARNED OF A RECALL REGARDING THE HEAD GASKET WHICH THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP DENIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THIS AFTERNOON I WAS IN MY 1995 FORD TAURUS WAGON IN HEAVY HIGHWAY TRAFFIC WHEN THE ACCELERATOR LOCKED AND THE THE CAR SPED DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT DANGEROUS SPEEDS. AFTER DETERMINING THAT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT SLOW THE CAR I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AFTER SWITCHING INTO NEUTRAL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. LAST NOVEMBER WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME THE REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL HOWEVER THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM.

1. RADIATOR - FAILED DUE TO DESIGN DEFECT IN PLASTIC TO ALUMINUM CORE JOINT, CAUSING LOSS OF COOLANT, REPLACEMENT FAILED WITHIN ONE DAY. REPLACEMENT FOR THAT ONE LASTED ONLY ABOUT 20,000 ADDITIONAL MILES, SO A TOTAL OF THREE IDENTICAL RADIATOR FAILURES WITH LOSS OF COOLANT IN ABOUT 25,000 MILES ON THE SAME CAR. SAME PROBLEM ON SON'S 1995 TAURUS SEDAN WITH SAME ENGINE. ORIGINAL RADIATOR FAILED, REPLACEMENT FAILED WITHIN 1,000 MILES OF INSTALLATION. THIS EXPERIENCE SEEMS TO INDICATE A FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN DEFECT IN THE TAURUS RADIATOR. 2. BRAKE FAILURE. DEFECT IN DESIGN OF REAR CALIPERS USED WITH ABS SYSTEM ON THE TAURUS RESULTS IN RAINWATER INTRUSION CAUSING RUSTING OF CALIPER PINS THAT THEN IMPEDES PROPER RETRACTION OF THE BRAKE PADS. THIS PAST SUNDAY, ON JUNE 11, 2017 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A GRADUATION PARTY AND THERE WAS A LOUD "POW" ONCE I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP. MY STEERING WAS VERY STIFF (AS IF I WAS DRIVING AN ANCIENT LARGE TRUCK WITH NO POWER STEERING, ALSO MY EXHAUST SYSTEM AT LEAST PARTIALLY CAME UNDUN. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CRIPPLED CAR TO OUR REGULAR REPAIR SHOP, WHO TOLD ME THAT I HAD A SUBFRAME RUST-COLLAPSE. I HAD TALKED TO A SHADETREE MECHANIC FRIEND, WHO SAID THAT IT WASN'T AN ACTUAL SUBFRAME COLLAPSE, BUT THE NEXT LAYER UP, THE ENGINE CRADLE WHOSE SLEEVES ARE NO THICKER STEEL THAN THE UNIBODY SHEETMETAL. ONE OF THE SLEEVES RUSTED THROUGH. SUPPOSEDLY THE ENGINE CRADLE SLEEVES ARE REMOVABLE/OR THE CRADLE ITSELF. MY MECHANIC FRIEND AND THE TOW FELLOW THAT BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO MY HOME, BOTH SAID THAT WHAT HAPPENED IS QUITE RARE, THEY NEVER HEARD OF SUCH AN INCIDENT. THE CRADLE RUST THROUGH CAUSED MY FRONT SUBFRAME TO PARTIALLY COLLAPSE AND THE ENGINE IS TILTED DOWN ON THE RIGHT-FRONT. THIS DISCONNECTED THE EXHAUST AND BOUND-UP MY RACK-AND-PINION STEERING, RENDERING THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS CAR IS NOT A RUST-BUCKET, NO RUSTY BODY PANEL HOLES, AND EVERYTHING ELSE STILL WORKS! JUST THE PAINT AND CLEARCOAT ARE FLAKING-OFF. I HAVE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND SEARCHED LOCAL SALVAGE YARDS, BUT CANNOT FIND A GOOD ENGINE CRADLE/SLEEVES. YET, THERE ARE SCADS OF GOOD TAURUS ENGINES CHEAPLY AVAILABLE. WHY DIDN'T FORD OFFER REPLACEMENT ENGINE CRADLE/SLEEVES? WAS THERE NO RECALL? I'D BET I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON THIS HAPPENED TO!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD TAURUS. WHILE ACCELERATING, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ABNORMALLY TURN AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION AND A DETACHMENT OF BOLTS IN THE REAR CORNERS OF THE SUBFRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE FAILURE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 98V323000 (STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS) RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

HE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE AS THE PARTS BEGAN TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS ON THE REAR CORNER OF THE SUB FRAME FELL OFF AND THE REPAIR COST WAS $617 . HE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULDN'T OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 98V323000, STRUCTURE, FRAME AND MEMBERS. THIS IS THE SECOND SPEEDOMETER HEAD ON THIS CAR AS THE ORIGINAL ALSO FAILED WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. THE ORIGINAL WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BUT FORD DEALER SAYS THAT THE REPLACEMENT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE SEEN DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE IDENTICAL PART FAILURE AND AT LEAST SERVICE BULLETINS LISTED IN YOUR DATABASES. I FEEL THAT THIS ITEM PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT OTHER COMPONENTS ARE BEING AFFECTED BY THE BEHAVIOR OF THE SPEEDO. CAN YOU PROVIDE ANY GUIDANCE IN GETTING RELIEF FROM THE MANUFACTURER? ARRIVING HOME, I PARKED THE CAR IN OUR ATTACHED GARAGE. I WENT INTO THE GARAGE AND I NOTICED THE SMELL OF SOMETHING HOT OR SHORTED COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I BACKED THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. THE NEXT DAY, I RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND NO LONGER NOTICED THE SMELL. I DROVE IT AND THERE WAS NO MORE ODOR. THE SPEED CONTROL FAILED TO OPERATE, AND THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ON THE WIRING HARNESS AND THE 3 AMP FUSE IN THE WIRNG HARNESS WAS BLOWN, BUT ONLY AFTER COMING CLOSE TO STARTING A FIRE. FORD HAS A HISTORY OF SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ON THE WIRING HARNESS AND CAUSING FIRES. THIS CAR WAS RECALLED IN 2007 TO INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS WITH A 3 AMP FUSE BETWEEN THE SWITCH AND THE SPEED CONTROL SERVO WHERE IT OFFERED NO PROTECTION. THE CAR WAS RECALLED AGAIN IN 2008 TO REPLACE THE FIRST WIRING HARNESS WITH ONE HAVING THE FUSE AHEAD OF THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THE 3 AMP FUSE IN SERIES WITH THE 15 AMP FUSE IS FAR LESS LIKELY TO CAUSE A FIRE THAN HAVING ONLY THE 15 AMP FUSE. NEVERTHELESS, I CAME CLOSE TO HAVING A MAJOR FIRE IN OUR HOME WHILE WE WERE INSIDE HAD I NOT NOTICED THE PROBLEM. THE 3 AMP FUSE DID ITS JOB, BUT THERE WAS ENOUGH BRAKE FLUID AND HEAT TO POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE LEAKING SWITCH AND THE FUSED WIRING HARNESS. THEY CHARGED ME $177.03 FOR THE REPAIR. FORD HAS RECALLED ABOUT 10 MILLION VEHICLES TO ADD THE FUSE, BUT I AM CONVINCED THAT THE DESIGN IS STILL UNSAFE BECAUSE 3 AMPS COULD STILL IGNITE BRAKE FLUID, I HOPE THIS NOTE MAY SAVE OTHERS FROM SERIOUS PROBLEMS, AS MORE OF THESE PRESSURE SWITCHES WILL FAIL WITH AGE AND LEAK BRAKE FLUID ON THE CONTINUOUSLY ENERGIZED WIRING HARNESS. FRONT SPRINGS: BOTH FRONT SPRINGS BROKE NEARLY PUNCTURING THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. NO HELP FROM FORD. SEEMS THEY HAVE A HISTORY OF BAD SPRING PROBLEMS. 93 TAURUS RECALL #98V-094, WINDSTAR RECALL 01V-199, CONTOUR RECALL 01V-255. THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON FRONT SPRINGS FOR THE 2000 FORD FOCUS FOR 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THE SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. DEALER BROUGHT IT TO MY ATTENTION WHILE IN FOR A/C REPAIR. HAD THE SPRING PUNCTURED THE TIRE AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPIC. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE OTHER THAN TO SAY IF THERE WAS A FUTURE RECALL OR SATISFACTION PROGRAM I WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSMENT. THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS RELATIVLY INEXPENSIVE. IT'S THE FACT THAT THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM AND ARE UNWILLING TO ADDRESS IT THAT BOTHERS ME. SPRINGS ARE NOT A MAINTANCE ITEM. I AM APPAULED AT THE AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE FORD TAURUS THAT I PURCHASED. I AM CURRENTLY WITHOUT A CAR WHILE I WAIT FOR THE FUSE IN THE RADIATOR TO BE REPLACED ( WHICH LEAD TO THE FAN MOTOR IN THE RADIATOR AND THE RADIATOR ITSELF TO BE REPLACED AS WELL). THE FIRST RECALL, WHICH WAS THE HEAD GASKET, TOOK A TOTAL OF THREE MONTHES TO BE REPAIRED, THREE MONTHES I SPENT HITCHING RIDES. IN THE LETTER, EACH TIME THEY HAVE PROMISED ME A RENTAL CAR, AND EACH TIME, NO CARS HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE, AND IF CARS ARE AVAILABLE, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RENT ONE TO ME BECAUSE I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT WHO IS NOT TWENTY ONE. I AM DEEPLY OFFENDED AT THE FACT THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CAN GET AWAY WITH MAKING ME PAY TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS AND I AM STILL LEFT WALKING ON THE SIDE OF I-75 ON THE COLDEST SAY OF THE YEAR (HEAD GASKET INCIDENT). WHEN IT IS HOT AND HUMID, THE CAR WILL JUST DIE AFTER RUNNING APPROXIMATELY 40 MINUTES. THE CAR WILL USUALLY RESTART AFTER SETTING 5-15 MINUTES, BUT CONTINUES TO DIE. THE SPEEDOMETER HEAD HAS BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES. ONCE UNDER WARRANTY, ONCE ON AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND 2 TIMES AT MY EXPENSE. ALL FOUR TIMES USED FORD REPLACEMENT PARTS AND THE 1ST 3 REPAIRS USED FORD MECHANICS. AS THE CAR IS LESS THAN 5 YRS OLD AND UNDER 89000 MILES, IT SEEMS EXTRAORDINARY THAT IT WOULD REQUIRE REPLACING THE SPEEDOMETER HEAD EVERY 12 MONTHS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. STARTING ON 3/15, THE CAR WOULD TURN OFF WITH NO WARNING, BOTH AT IDLE AND AT SPEEDS OF UP TO 75 MPH. WE ARE LEFT TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. SOMETIMES IT WILL RECRANK, OTHER TIMES IT WON'T. LOCAL FORD DEALER HAS HAD THE CAR 5 TIMES (HAS IT NOW) AND CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT. HAVE REPLACED FUEL PUMP, CRANK SENSOR, CAM SENSOR, WATER PUMP, IGNITION CONTROL MODULE AND VARIOUS FILTERS. UNTIL RECENTLY, THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO WE KEPT THE CAR UNTIL IT WAS LITERALLY LURCHING AND KNOCKING, BARELY DRIVING MORE THAN A MILE AT A TIME, TURNING OFF EVERY 100 YARDS OR SO. THEY FINALLY SAW IT TURN ITSELF OFF. IT JUST GOES DEAD. AFTER SEVERAL TIMES, WE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A TELLTALE "SHUDDER" THAT OCCURED SOMETIME PRIOR TO IT SHUTTING OFF. NO REAL PATTERN THOUGH.
