TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD POPPING NOISE WHILE THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE WAS PUNCTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO ADVISED THAT THE STRUT FAILED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. A LOCAL MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE FRONT SPRING STRUTS WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION) WAS PERFORMED HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE AND THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED MY TIRE. NOW JUST THIS MORNING AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED MY TIRE. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FROM FORD O4S17 FRONT COIL SPRINGS. HOWEVER THEY ARE SAYING MY CAR IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL SINCE MY CAR WAS NOT ORIGINALLY SOLD IN A SALT BELT STATE. WELL IT IS IN A SALT BELT STATE NOW AND IT IS BROKE. 2 FRONT COIL SPRINGS AND 2 TIRES. EVERYWHERE I CALL THE PRICE RANGE IS AROUND 1200 DOLLARS. I AM VERY UPSET WITH FORD. THEY SOLD A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE AND THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. I WOULD RATHER PUT THE 1200 DOLLARS TOWARDS A NEW VEHICLE THAN WASTE ANY MORE MONEY ON FORD. *TR

ON MARCH 11 2013 AS I BEGAN TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY MY FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED MY TIRE. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FROM FORD NUMBER 04S17.WHEN THEY RAN MY VIN THEY SAID THERE WAS NO OPEN RECALL FOUND. AFTER CONTACTING 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS THEY BELIEVE MY CAR SHOULD BE COVERED BY THIS RECALL. ALL 3 HAVE ADVISED ME TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT STRUT TOWERS. I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE SAFTY AND LOYALTY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND TAKE STEPS TO CORRECT THIS CONSISTANT DEFECT QUITE COMMON IN THIS MODEL.

I BOUGHT THIS 1999 FORD TAURUS IN 2011. I HAD TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING RACK REPLACED DUE TO IT LEAKING. ONCE THIS GOT REPLACED THE CAR BEGAN TO IDLE REALLY REALLY BAD WHEN THE AC OR HEATER WAS TURNED ON, THIS WOULD ALSO SOMETIMES OCCUR JUST SITTING AT A LIGHT WITH NOTHING ON. IT WOULD ALSO HAPPEN IN REVERSE SOMETIMES STALLING THE CAR. I HAVE PUT OVER 2000 INTO THE CAR TO TRY AND FIGURE IT OUT. I CAME ACROSS THE 2005 FORD FREESTYLE THAT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THAT IS BEING INVESTIGATED KNOW. I HAVE REPLACED THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE, MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, CPU, THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, POWER STEERING POSITION SENSOR, CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR, ALTERNATOR, POWER STEERING RACK, AND THERE ARE A FEW OTHER THAT I WILL NEED TO FIND THE RECEIPTS FOR. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE ISSUE BECAUSE IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND ALSO MY FATHER IN LAW. IT SOMETIMES WILL HAPPEN RIGHT AS YOU ARE COMING TO A STOP SO IT JUMPS AND YOU ALMOST DON'T HAVE TIME TO STOP. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THE ISSUE AND AM GETTING READY TO SELL THE CAR. WHILE DRIVING IN A SMALL TOWN I EXPERIENCED A LOSS IN BRAKING. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO GUIDE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND THEN HAD IT TRANSPORTED TO A GARAGE. THEY FOUND THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED. AND WAS LEAKING FLUID. THIS CAUSED FAILURE OF THE FRONT BRAKES. ON FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM THEY FOUND THAT THEIR WAS A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE LEADING TO THE REAR BRAKES. THIS LEAK WAS CAUSED BY EXTERNAL CORROSION OF THE LINE. I THOUGHT THAT THESE LINES WERE STAINLESS STEEL, AND SHOULD NOT HAVE CORRODED DUE TO SALT ON THE ROADWAY. IF THE LINES ARE NOT MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL, THEY SHOULD BE. THE FAILURE OF THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE LEAK IN THE LINE COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, BUT DID NOT BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED. TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE: HAVING WORKED ON CARS FOR 40+ YEARS AND OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS, IT WAS A SURPRISE TO SUFFER TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT EVER HAVING THE BRAKE LIGHT INDICATE A FAILURE. FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, ALL MY VEHICLES HAD A PRIMARY AND SECONDARY BRAKE CIRCUIT WITH A PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL SWITCH THAT WOULD LATCH AND LIGHT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS A PARTIAL BRAKE FAILURE WAS CAUGHT BY THE WARNING LIGHT. MASTER CYLINDER REPLACEMENT WAS PERFORMED QUICKLY AS DRIVING WITH ONE CIRCUIT IS DANGEROUS. THE 1999 FORD TAURUS HAS NO BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL SWITCH, NO KIDDING! IF ONE DOES NOT MAKE PANIC STOPS AS A REGULAR PART OF DRIVING, IT IS EASIER THAN ONE WOULD THINK TO HAVE A PARTIAL FAILURE GO UNDETECTED (DESPITE THAT THERE MUST HAVE BEEN EXTRA PEDAL TRAVEL). WHEN THE SECOND CIRCUIT FAILS THE RESULT IS TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE, THE SAME TYPE OF THINKING AS THE FORD PINTO FUEL TANK. THIS TAURUS HAS NO ENGINE BRAKING AT ALL. SPEED CANNOT BE DECREASED BY RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. EXCESSIVE SPEED CAN ONLY BE AVOIDED BY "RIDING" THE BRAKES. THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL. FORD DEALER SAYS IT IS NORMAL AND "OK". JUST A CONSEQUENCE OF HAVING AN OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION. GO FIGURE!!

GOT A TRANSMISSION LEAK, THE TRANSMISSION PAN SEALS WERE REPLACED AS THEY WERE WET AND TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED AND REFILLED. NEXT DAY THE CAR WAS STILL LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID BROUGHT IT BACK TO SHOP WHERE THE SEALS IN THE TRANSMISSION PUMP WERE SHREDDED. WAS REPLACED AND AGAIN TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED AND FILLED. GET TRANSMISSION BACK IN CAR AND O/D LIGHT IS ON. REPLACED THE CABLES AND SILINIOD PACK. NEXT DAY DRIVING THE CAR AT 10 MPH THE CAR LOST POWER AND WAS LIKE IN NEUTRAL. PARKED CAR AND SHUT IT OFF. TOWED TO MECHANIC AND HE SAID TRANSMISSION IS BUSTED/BROKE AND NEEDS REPLACING. AFTER READING HERE SEEMS THIS TRANSMISSION ON THIS YEAR OF CAR IS CRAP AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!! I WAS GOING DOWN HE INTERSTATE WITH MY 3 KIDS WHEN MY CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING. IT ACTED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND THE RPM'S WOULD GO UP WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE ANYMORE. DESIGN DEFECT/SAFETY DEFECT. MY SON JUST RECEIVED HIS DRIVER'S PERMIT AND HAS RECENTLY BEEN DRIVING MY 1999 FORD TAURUS. I PLANNED TO GIVE HIM THIS CAR AND THEN PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR WHEN HE TURNS 16. IN ADJUSTING THE TILT STEERING WHEEL, IT CAUSED THE WIRING MECHANISM THAT CONTROLS THE AIR BAGS TO BREAK. APPARENTLY, WHEN THE WIRE BROKE IT TOUCHED METAL AND SHORTED OUT MY SYSTEM. THUS, I DON'T HAVE THE USE OF MY AIR BAGS AND THEY SAID IT WILL COST $800 TO FIX. I WAS NEARING TUCSON AND PLANNED TO EXIT TO THE NEAREST TIRE SHOP, VIBRATION INCREASED. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED, THE CAR HAS HAD MORE PROBLEMS AND WAS BROKE DOWN FOR ALMOST THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR. DEC. 2016 HAD A NEW STARTER, POWER STEERING PULLEY, AND SERPENTINE BELT REPLACED. CAR RAN GREAT FOR 3 DAYS THEN THE SPEEDOMETER WASN'T WORKING AND FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING OR COMPLETELY GOING OUT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. AT 43,400 MILES, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT AT THE COST OF $1,400. WITHIN A YEAR, IT HAD TO BE REBUILT A SECOND TIME AT NO CHARGE. ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2008, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT FOR THE THIRD TIME AT 53,600 MILES. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION SKIPS SECOND GEAR AND THE VEHICLE JERKS OFTEN. THE CONTACT DOES NOT DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY, ONLY IN TOWN. SHE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE IS AT 5,000 RPM WHEN DRIVING. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR, BUT THE VEHICLE ONLY ACCELERATES BETWEEN 5-10 MPH. RE: 1999 FORD TAURUS: VIN # [XXX] MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 1999 FORD TAURUS FROM NORTH POINT FORD IN NORTH LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, ON FEB. 16, 2001. SINCE NOVEMBER 2002, WE HAVE HAD THE CAR AT TWO FORD DEALERSHIPS AND THREE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS TRYING TO GET THE HEATER FIXED. SO FAR IT HAS COST US $1,324.21. DURING THE MOST RECENT REPAIR, NORTH POINT FORD TOOK APART THE ENTIRE COOLANT SYSTEM, FLUSHED EACH COMPONENT AND FOUND RUST IN THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHICH THEY SAID WAS THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. AT PRESENT, THE HEATER IS WORKING, BUT WE FEEL WE ARE DUE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY WHEN WE BOUGHT IT WITH 29,891 MILES. (THE CONTRACT STATES 28,890 AS THE DEALER DENIED OUR REQUEST TO LIST THE CORRECT MILEAGE.) WE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED "BUMPER TO BUMPER" WARRANTY AT A COST OF $1,733 AT NORTH POINT FORD. THE BIG SELLING POINT WAS THE WARRANTY WOULD COVER ALL MAJOR REPAIRS SUCH AS THE AIR CONDITIONER/HEATER SYSTEM. THE WARRANTY IS HANDLED THROUGH WARRANTECH AUTOMOTIVE, P.O. BOX 1179, BEDFORD, TX 76095. THE CONTRACT # IS 14747754; THE CONTRACT PLAN CODE IS CV60100UKD; THE SELLING DEALER CODE IS 718688 AND THE LOCAL AGENT CODE IS 183. HOWEVER, THE WARRANTY COMPANY HAS PAID VERY LITTLE TOWARD THE REPAIRS, CLAIMING THEY ARE "MAINTENANCE." I HAVE LOCATED SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE INTERNET. AMONG THEM IS #01-15-6 "HEATER CORE - REPEATED FAILURE" AND #01-11-6 "COOLING SYSTEM - CORROSION/CONTAMINATION/OVERHEATING." WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT ON THE 1999 TAURUSES, FORD SENT THE VEHICLES FROM THE FACTORY WITH A HIGHLY CORROSIVE COOLANT. THIS WOULD EXPLAIN THE SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE HEATER CORE FAILURE AND COOLANT SYSTEM CORROSION. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE ON GOING PROBLEMS WITH THE ANTI FREEZE IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A SLUDGE PROBLEM IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE WAS FLUSHED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO CHECKED THE VIN # AND DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THERE WAS A TSB #622646 ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT EXPLAINS BRIEFLY PROBLEMS SIMILIAR TO THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED.

I OWNED A 1999 TAURUS AND DROVE IT FOR APPROXIMATELY SEVEN YEARS WITHOUT MAJOR PROBLEMS. I PERFORMED THE NORMAL MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. ON SEPTEBMER 20, 2006 THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE APPEARED TO BE THE FRONT RIGHT AREA OF THE ENGINE COMPONENT. THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND IS NOW IN A JUNK YARD. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. CAR HAS HAD SHAKE IN STEERING WHEEL SINCE THE TEST DRIVE; WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS DUE TO CAR SITTING ON THE LOT AND THAT TURNING THE ROTORS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SHAKE RETURNED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE AND HAS CONTINUED TO BE A PROBLEM SINCE. IT STARTS AS A SUBLTE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND BECOMES A VIOLENT SHAKE AS THE PROBLEM PROGRESSIVELY GETS WORSE. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED, REPLACED 2X, DRUMS REPLACED, WHEEL CYLINDERS REPLACED. WE ASKED THEM THE LAST TIME TO ALSO CHECK PROPORTIONING VALVE, THEY SAID THEY WOULD BUT DIDN'T. IT HAS HAD A TOTAL OF 4 REPAIRS FOR THIS PROBLEM, INCLUDING THEM TURNING T HE ROTORS BEFORE PURCHASE. WE SENT A CERTIFIED LETTER TO FORD JUST BEFORE THE LAST REPAIR. THEY REPLIED WITH THE STATEMENT THAT A REGIONAL OFFICE OR THE SERVICE MANAGER FROM THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CONTACT US, AND IF NOT WE WERE TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP. NO ONE CONTACTED US, AND WE'VE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR 10MONTHS WITH NO SUCCESS. THE SALESPERSON HAS TOLD US SHE'LL SPEAK TO HER GENERAL MANAGER. THE CERTIFIED LETTER WAS RECIEVED BY FORD ON 6/16/00, THE LAST REPAIR WAS DONE ON 6/24/00, AND THE SHAKE RETURNED ON 7/7/00. I HAVE A 1999 FORD TAURUS STATION WAGON. IN 2003 THE RLEFT REAR SEAT BELT WOULD SOMETIMES GET STUCK AND NOT RETRACT. I WOULD HAVE TO FEED THE BELT BACK INTO THE MECHANISM IN ORDER FOR THE BELT TO FINALLY WORK. AFTER DOING THIS FOR SOME TIME, I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER IN DECEMBER, 2003 AND PAID TO HAVE THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY REPLACED. IN 2006, I AGAIN HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR SEAT BELTS AND THE LEFT FRONT SEAT BELT. I AGAIN TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER IN DECEMBER 2006 AND HAD ALL THREE OF THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES REPLACED. I BROUGHT IT INTO FORD GARAGE AND THEY SAID IT IS COMMON AND DON'T WORRY. WHILE DRIVING I FEEL PULSATION AND VIBRATION WHILE BREAKING. WHEN I DO GO SPEED ABOVE 10MPH IT STOPS. IF I STOP AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND START AGAIN IT AGAIN VIBRATES AND PULSATES. IT IT SCARY BECAUSE YOU FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. THEY TELL ME IT IS COMMON AND IN THE MANUAL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. A MECHANIC REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR; HOWEVER, THE LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A MISFIRE ON THE #6 CYLINDER. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS ANTIFREEZE ENTERING THE MOTOR. THE MECHANIC ALSO SUGGESTED THAT THERE WAS A POTENTIAL ISSUE WITH THE HEAD GASKET, WHICH WOULD COST BETWEEN $1,500-$2,500 TO REPAIR. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DECELERATE IF THE CONTACT REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL; THEREFORE, HE WOULD HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKES INSTEAD. THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD COAST DUE TO THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CONTACT ALSO EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM USING MORE GASOLINE THAN HE BELIEVED WAS NECESSARY. FOR ERRANDS AROUND TOWN, THE VEHICLE WOULD USE A HALF OF A TANK. THE HEADLIGHTS HAD A DINGY COLOR ON THE INSIDE. HE ATTEMPTED TO GET ANOTHER LENS CAP FOR IT, BUT COULD NOT CHANGE IT BECAUSE IT WAS PLASTIC. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER HEADLIGHT TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS CLOSE TO TEN YEARS OLD. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND SLIP INTO ANOTHER GEAR. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR FOURTEEN MONTHS. AS I WAS PARKING IN FRONT OM APARTMENT, MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE BUMPED THE CURVE AND TRIGGERED MY AIR BAGS, WHICH IN TURN EXPLODED AND CAUSED $3,000 IN DAMAGE. THE FORD CERTIFIED DEALER IN MY AREA WAS UNABLE TO FIND A REASON FOR THE AIRBAGS TO GO OFF. AND WHEN I CALLED FORD THE LADY ON THE PHONE TOLD ME THAT SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. SHE SAID SHE HAD HEARD OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING THAT THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THEY FELT IT SHOULD, BUT NOT THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING FROM A <1MPH IMPACT OF A TIRE INTO A CURB. FORD INSISTED THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. THIS HAS REALLY BEEN HARD ON ME CONSIDERING MY INSURANCE COMPANY WAS HESITANT TO COVER THE INCIDENT BECAUSE ACCORDING TO THEM NO COLLISION OCCURED FOR THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. HOWEVER, MY INSURANCE COMPANY FINALLY ACCEPTED CLAIM. ALTHOUGH IN RETURN MY RATES HAVE WENT UP AND I HAD TO TAKE A LOAN OF $500 TO COVER THE DEDUCTIBLE. THE CAR PICKS UP SPEED FROM NO WHERE, SPECIALLY WHEN COMING FROM A STOP. VERY SCAREY, REFUSE TO LET MY DAUGHTER DRIVE BECAUSE OF IT. NOW THE POWER STEERING IS MAKING A HORRIBLE HUM AND I HAVE LOST POWER STEERING ON SEVERAL OCCAISIONS. ADDED FLUID, THE NEXT DAY IT LOOKED LIKE COCOA BUBBLING OUT. IT HAS HAD REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION, CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, GASKETS, PUMPS, HOSES, FILTERS AND IT STILL DOES NOT RUN. IT DOESN'T START PROPERLY, IF IT STARTS AT ALL. IT STALLS IN REVERSE AND INITITAL SHIFT INTO DRIVE DOES NOT RUN SMOOTH. THE WIPER FLUID DOES NOT COME OUT. THE CAR RATTLES AND SOUNDS AWFUL .
