TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V332000 (SUSPENSION), BUT THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTIFIED. AFTER AN OIL CHANGE, THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STRUTS WERE BENT WITH EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON THE SPRING COILS AND STRUTS. THE DEALER FAILED TO INDICATE IF THEY WOULD PROVIDE THE RECALL REPAIR FOR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 FORD TAURUS DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WITH MY WIFE AND SMALL CHILD, ON OUR WAY TO CHURCH, WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE SPRING BROKE AND NEARLY PULLED OUR CAR INTO A GUARD RAIL AND OFF A BRIDGE. THIS HAPPENED SOMETIME IN 2004 AND I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE EXACT LOCATION ON HWY 59. IT'S A DAY I DOUBT I EVER FORGET. I REMEMBER THE MECHANIC TELLING ME A FRONT SPRING SHOULD NEVER FAIL. HE SAID THERE WERE NO CURRENT RECALLS, SO I WAS STUCK WITH THE BILL. I REMEMBER BEING FURIOUS WITH FORD NOT ONLY BECAUSE MY FAMILY NEARLY DIED, BUT BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T OWN UP TO SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. HERE IT IS NEARLY 12 YEARS LATER, AND I FOUND AN INVOICE FROM 2008 FOR NEW STRUTS AND SWAY BARS THAT COST ME NEARLY $1,000. I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK THAT BILL WAS SOMEHOW RELATED TO WHAT HAPPENED WHEN MY SPRING BROKE IN 2004, BUT MAYBE NOT. BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS, I FEEL IT IS TIME FOR THE RECALL TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE OTHER FORD OWNERS, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE ARE ALL DEALING WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. I HAVE SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT TO FORD 1-800-392-3673 AND I BELIEVE MY NEXT STEP WITH BE THE FTC 1-877-382-4357. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS WRONG THAT NEEDS TO BE MADE RIGHT.

DRIVERS SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND RUPTURED THE TIRE. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN CALIFORNIA AND MOVED TO NEW ENGLAND 10 YEARS AGO, SO IT HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO ROAD SALT. I CALLED FORD. THE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. I READ THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE 1999-2000 FORD TAURUS FOR THIS PRECISE PROBLEM. IT IS VERY POSSIBLE I MAY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE OTHER COIL SPRINGS WHILE DRIVING AND NOT AS IN THIS OCCASION WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. MA 10/8 ....UPDATED 11/13/15 *BF *CN

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE COIL SPRING FRACTURED. AS A RESULT, THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE COIL SPRING AND TIRE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ON A DIFFERENT OCCASION, THE FRONT PASSENGERS COIL SPRING AND TIRE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THEAPPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A MONTH OR TWO. AFTER STARTING IT ONE DAY IN EARLY MARCH, OWNER HEARD SPRING ON THE FRONT, LEFT STRUT POP AND BREAK. THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION NOR HAD IT BEEN FOR QUITE SOME TIME. IN AN ATTEMPT TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, THE SPRING PUNCTURED TIRE. THE SET OF FOUR TIRES HAD BEEN RECENTLY PURCHASED BY OWNER. OWNER HAD TO PAY FOR TOW, BRAND NEW TIRE, AND BOTH FRONT QUICK STRUTS FOR VEHICLE PLUS LABOR COSTS. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED ON 7-15-2004 REGARDING INSTALLING PANELS TO PROTECT THE TIRES FROM THE EXACT TYPE OF DAMAGES INCURRED. DAHL FORD DEALERSHIP STATED THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO VEHICLE'S SPECIFIC VIN, SO, THEY WOULD NOT PUT THE PANELS IN NOR REPLACE DAMAGED COMPONENTS AT NO CHARGE. OWNER ADVISED DAHL FORD THAT THIS RECALL WAS SENT FROM ADVANCE AUTO PARTS ONLINE GARAGE SERVICES, SO, IT CANNOT BE TOO INVALID. OWNER ALSO WAS TOLD BY EMPLOYEES OF A LOCAL MEINEKE CAR CARE CENTER THAT THE ISSUES FOR THE CAR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REGISTERED IN ONE OF THE STATES WHERE THE DAMAGE TO STRUTS AND SPRINGS CAN OCCUR--FROM ROAD SALT--AND OWNER SPENT CLOSE TO $800 REMEDYING A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE VIN DOES NOT INDICATE THAT THE PANELS WERE EVER INSTALLED AT AN EARLIER DATE, AND THE LACK OF DOING SO CAUSED THE EXACT TYPE OF ISSUE OUTLINED IN RECALL NUMBER 04S17. *TR

TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THE 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HAD ABS PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT FOUND A RECALL 05V379000 CONCERNING THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL FIRMLY HE FELT A RUMBLING IN THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. HE CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AND IT LOOKED TO BE OKAY. THE RUMBLING WAS ALSO AUDIBLE, THE HARDER ONE APPLIED THE BRAKES THE LOUDER IT BECAME. HE STATED THAT THERE WERE NO INDICATOR LIGHTS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. DT: LAST WEEK THE CAR WAS SERVICED, THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND A ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. MAY 9 2005, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR END AND HE DISCOVERED THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS ON HIS WAY TO THE DEALER, THE REAR BRAKES FROZE UP. THE CAR COULD NOT BE DRIVEN TO DEALER, THE CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. AFTER GETTING THE CAR OUT OF THE BODY SHOP BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT, I WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE TEMP GAUGE IMMEDIATELY WENT FROM NORMAL TO PAST HOT. ONCE COOLED, I ADDED COOLANT AND NOTICED THE COOLANT JUG HAD CRACKED. AS A RESULT, THE HEAD/HEAD GASKET HAD CRACKED DUE TO THE OVERHEATING FROM LOSS OF COOLANT. AS A RESULT OF THE CRACKED HEAD, EXHAUST IS NOW ENTERING INTO THE COOLANT SYSTEM, AND CAUSING COOLANT TO BOIL OUT, AND PUMP EXHAUST FUMES INTO THE CABIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM, AND THAT THE BLOWN ENGINE WAS NOT A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. I HAVE MADE IT A POINT TO TALK TO EVERY TAURUS OWNER I CAN, AND MANY HAVE THE SAME EXHAUST ODOR IN THE CABIN. THE STRESS OF DRIVING, OR AN ACCIDENT, CAUSES THE COOLANT JUG TO CRACK AND LEAK OUT COOLANT. I PERSONALLY HAVE REPLACED 5 OF THESE JUGS SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR BECAUSE OF CRACKING ON THE BOTTOM AND COOLANT WOULD LEAK OUT. ONCE THIS STARTS, THE CAR OVERHEATS WITHOUT WARNING BECAUSE THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR DOES NOT HAVE COOLANT RUNNING ACROSS IT TO GET THE PROPER COOLANT TEMPERATURE. *TR

ON MAY 13, 2010 AT APPROXIMATELY 8:50 A.M. MY 2000 FORD TAURUS CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT OF MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD CATHOLIC CHURCH IN CORPUS CHRISTI. I WAS ATTENDING MORNING MASS AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. IF NOT FOR THE SWIFT ACTION OF THE SECRETARY WHO CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE FIRE WOULD HAVE SPREAD FROM THE HOOD TO THE GAS TANK AND IT WOULD HAVE EXPLODED. MY CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS AND I WAS GRATEFUL THAT I WAS NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. I HAVE ELDERLY PARENTS WHO ARE WITH ME ALL THE TIME AND SOME TIMES THEY STAY IN THE CAR WHILE I RUN IN TO GET THEM SOMETHING FROM THE STORE. MY CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND ONLY HAD 90,000 MILES ON IT. MY ALLSTATE INSURANCE DID PAY ME FOR THE VALUE OF THE CAR, HOWEVER, I NOW HAD TO BUY A NEW CAR AND I HAVE ACQUIRED A MONTHLY PAYMENT OF $300 FOR FIVE YEARS, WHEN I HAD NO CAR PAYMENT ON MY FORD. I WANT TO FIND OUT WHY THIS FIRE STARTED. THE FIRE REPORT SAID IT WAS ELECTRICAL OR WIRE. BUT, THEY USE THAT AS A DEFAULT REASON ON CAR FIRES. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS?? THE 2000 FORD TAURUS JUST STOPS RUNNING WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. SOME TIMES THE VEHICLE DOESN'T START AT ALL AND LEAVES US STRANDED WHERE WE ARE SITTING, FOR EXAMPLE: AT THE GROCERY STORE, THE CHURCH AND SOMETIMES AT HOME. THIS INCIDENT OCCURS VERY OFTEN AND WE HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE PLACE WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND TO OTHER GARAGES BECAUSE OF THE UNCONCERNED PEOPLE FROM WHERE THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE PLACE WE BOUGHT IT FROM SAID THEY WOULDN'T HELP US BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. APPARENTLY THERE IS OR WE WOULDN'T HAVE TOWING BILLS AND HAVE TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT ALL THE TIME. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM FOR US. THE OWNER OF THE PLACE WHERE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE DID MAKE THE COMMENT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT AND WE WHERE JUST COMPLAINING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT WASN'T THERE. AGAIN, WE HAVE BILLS FROM THE GARAGE, AS WELL AS BILLS FROM WHERE IS WAS PURCHASED SHOWING THE PROBLEM THAT APPARENTLY CANNOT BE FOUND EVEN FROM THE PEOPLE THAT SOLD US THE VEHICLE. THIS 2000 FORD TAURUS APPARENTLY HAS A PROBLEM AND SOLD ANYWAY. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS AS IT DOES STOP RUNNING WHILE DRIVING IT DOWN THE ROAD AND AGAIN LEAVES US STRANDED AND WE ARE ELDERLY PEOPLE AND JUST WANTED TO PURCHASE AN AFFORDABLE CAR THAT WE COULD TRUST WITH SAFETY AND AFFORDABLE TRANSPORTATION THAT HAS GIVING US NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. 2000 FORD TAURUS SERPENTINE BELT BROKE AND LOST CONTROL THEN WENT OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RAMP AND INTO A DITCH. *NJ THE SERPENTINE BELT HAD OVERHEATED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE BELT WAS REPLACED WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. THE OFFICER NOTICED A PUDDLE OF ANTI-FREEZE ON THE GROUND UNDER THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE REAR BUMPER WAS DAMAGED. Someone pulled out in front of me as I was slowing down to make a left turn. I T-boned their vehicle while going 35mph, resulting in a total loss for my 2000 Ford Taurus. (This was in 2018 so it was not a new car). My driver steering wheel airbag DID NOT deploy. I was wearing my seat belt. I still have chest pains when I sneeze and cough, even 4 years later (in November 2022, at time of writing), and in the last year (2021) received a cortisone shot in my left shoulder. I was offered a neck brace in the ambulance and was prescribed an arm sling in the hospital. I was diagnosed with whiplash. I believe I was given pain medication. Someone from the NHTSA in Indiana contacted me and we spoke briefly about it that week, so this may have been previously reported to this agency. I only found out this week that the 2000 Ford Taurus had a history of airbag issues, which is why I bring this up now. I think the car has already been scrapped, so no chance of examination unfortunately. As above, my safety was in jeopardy. Had I been going faster, I could have died. (Apparently someone DID die from a faulty Taurus front airbag.) I, to this day, have chest pain down to my elbows when I sneeze or cough. My doctor says it's a musculoskeletal strain. Ford has not issued recalls for airbags. The vehicle was declared totaled on scene by the police officer and then towed by a towing service. The towing service said the undeployed airbag was "a ticking time bomb" and really unsafe to attempt to repair. I sent pictures to the at-fault driver's insurance, so it was also inspected by insurance. I do not remember any seeing warning messages. I would have checked any unfamiliar warnings or dash lights. Side note: For number of injured, I think I was the only one to take an ambulance. At-fault driver first hesitated to call 911, but eventually did. There were two people in his car, including himself: driver, and passenger in front seat.

TAKATA RECALL I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE UNSAFE AIRBAGS AND THEY SEEMED TO FEEL AS IF IT WAS NO BIG DEAL AND TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX MY AIRBAGS.

THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANYTHING ABOUT TO HAPPEN TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SLIPPING OR ACTING UP PRIOR TO THIS. JUST GLAD THERE WAS NOT HEAVY TRAFFIC AS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A BAD SCENARIO. AFTER RESEARCH HAVE FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THIS VEHICLE. WONDERING WHY FORD HAS NOT DOWN SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I AM HAVING ISSUES EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V106000. I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS WHERE THE THE STOMP LAMP MALFUNCTIONS WHEN USING THE BRAKES. WHEN I CALLED FUTURE FORD OF ROSEVILLE, CA IN THE AUTOMALL THEY LOOKED UP MY VIN # AND INFORMED ME THAT THIS RECALL IS NOT IN THEIR LIST FOR MY VEHICLE. BUT THAT THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE HAD THE STOP LAMP REPLACED ALREADY IN YEAR 2000 FOR THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS IS A SAFETY RECALL OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AS MY CAR WITH THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS FOUND IN THE NHTSA RECALL ARTICLE. THERE WAS NOT MUCH INTEREST IN MY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. TO ME THIS APPEARS THAT THIS SHOULD APPLY TO MY CAR ALSO. WE HAVE TWO FORD TAURUS' AND BOTH HAVE THE SAME DOOR LATCH PROBLEM. BOTH ARE YEAR MODEL 2000. THE ISSUE IS THAT WHEN OUTDOOR TEMPERATURES DROP TO THE LOW 20 DEGREE AREA AND BELOW, THE DOORS WILL NOT LATCH. WE FOUND THIS OUT THE FIRST TIME BY HAVING THE DOOR FLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING. I'VE DONE SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR MANY PEOPLE GOING AT LEAST AS FAR BACK AS 1999, AND FORWARD TO AT LEAST THE 2004 MODEL YEAR. I COULD PUT A TON OF LINKS TO SITES WHERE PEOPLE ARE ASKING FOR HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY'RE EASY TO FIND. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT COULD PUT PEOPLE AT RISK OF AN INJURY. IN ORDER TO GET THE DOOR LATCH TO WORK PROPERLY REQUIRES THAT HEAT BE APPLIED AND THEN THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY BAND AID. THE DOOR LATCHES WILL NOT FUNCTION AS SOON AS THEY GET COLD AGAIN. INITIALLY NOTICED A FUEL ODOR AT THE BEGINNING OF NOV. 2000. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. IN FEBRUARY, I MENTIONED MY SLEEPINESS AND HEADACHES WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR LONG LENGTHS OF TIME TO MY EMPLOYER AND THEY THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE A CO PROBLEM. WE PLACED A CO TUBE IN CAR AND IT WAS DIRTY WITHIN 72 HOURS. WENT TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP (HILLER) AND THEY HAD 2 OTHER 2000 FORD TAURUS IN SHOP WITH SAME PROBLEM. DEALER WASN'T EXACTLY SURE WHAT PROBLEM WAS WITH CAR. FORD REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS AND SAID THAT WOULD TAKE CARE OF PROBLEM. STILL WAS SLEEPY AND NAUSEOUS/HEADACHY. FORD DEALER SAID THAT FORD WILL NOT DO ANY MORE FOR ME. PUT NEW CO TUBE ON CENTER VENT AND THAT TOO BECAME DIRTY. DEALERSHIP STILL WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING AND TOOK TUBE AS EVIDENCE. I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT CO METER FROM HARDWARE STORE AND THE READING WENT OVER 300 AND ALARM SOUNDED. AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE USED FOR VERY LITTLE MONEY, I HAD A LOT OF WORK DONE INCLUDING SOME BRAKE WORK. THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED WHILE MY SON IN LAW WAS SLOWING TO EXIT AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. MY SON IN LAW DROVE THE CAR OFF OF THE ROAD, INTO A CITY PARK TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I SPOKE TO SEVERAL MECHANICS. ALL OF THEM INSISTED THAT THE WHOLE BRAKE SYSTEM COULD NOT FAIL AT THE SAME TIME. A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE, WHO IS NOT A MECHANIC, AGREED WITH THE MECHANICS THAT A TOTAL FAILURE WAS IMPOSSIBLE. THIS FRIEND SAID HE WOULD DRIVE THE CAR FOR A WHILE TO PROVE TO ME THAT MY SON IN LAW MUST HAVE MISTAKENLY HIT THE ACCELERATOR INSTEAD OF THE GAS. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, HE HAD AN IDENTICAL EXPERIENCE - TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES. FORTUNATELY, IT HAPPENED AS HE WAS PARKING THE CAR AND WAS ALREADY MOVING VERY SLOWLY. AFTER THAT I HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED SINCE IT WAS THE ONLY MAJOR PART IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM THAT HAD NOT YET BEEN REPLACED. FRONT END UNACCEPTABLE! THEN DEFROSTER DIDN'T WORK IN WINTER AND I HAD TO USE MY SHIRT SLEEVE TO KEEP RUBBING THE WINDSHIELD. I TOLD AC COLLINS FORD DEALERSHIP THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE COIL SPRINGS AND BRAKES WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I ALSO TOLD THEM THAT THE AC WAS LEAKING IN CAR. I TOLD THEM THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE WHEN I WAS BRAKING. I CAN SEND OVER THE EMAILS IF YOU LIKE. AC COLLINS SOLD ME THIS CAR WITH SERIOUS SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. STARTED TO SMELL BURNED WIRES IN CAR. LOOK UNDER DASH AND SMOKE AND WIRES WHERE BURNED. BRAKE LIGHTS DONT WORK. READING ONLINE AND OTHER ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AND PEOPLE WHERE HAVING SAME ISSUE. THE WIPERS WOULD ONLY OPERATE IN HIGH MODE. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WOULD NOT UNLATCH OR LATCH WHENEVER ENGAGED. FRIDAY AFTERNOON I TOOK MY 90 YEAR OLD MOTHER AND DROVE TO CHICK FILET TO BUY A TAKEOUT LUNCH. I DROVE HOME TO MY MOTHER'S HOUSE AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BACKING UP THE CAR INTO HER DRIVEWAY. I STOPPED THE CAR AND LOOKED BEHIND ME TO CHECK FOR ANYONE WALKING AND THEN HEARD MY MOM SCREAM FIRE!, FIRE!. AS I QUICKLY TURNED MY HEAD BACK I SAW FLAMES JUMPING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF MY 2000 FORD TAURUS STATION WAGON. I QUICKLY TURN OFF THE CAR, GRABBING THE KEYS AS I WENT, YELLED AT MY MOM TO GET OUT AND THEN JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR AND RACED BACK TO OPEN THE TRUNK SO THAT I COULD GET MY MOTHER'S WALKER. AS I ARRIVED AT MY MOTHER'S CAR DOOR I HELPED HER OUT AND PULLED OFF HER OXYGEN CANULA AND TOLD HER TO WALK AS FAST AS SHE COULD TOWARDS THE HOUSE. I THEN GRABBED THE OXYGEN TANK, PURSES, AND LUNCH AND RAN TOWARD THE HOUSE SCREAMING FOR SOMEONE TO CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. A NEIGHBOR SAID THEY WOULD. I UNLOCKED MY MOTHER'S DOOR AND SHE PRESSED HER LIFE ALERT BUTTON AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. I WALKED OUT SIDE TO WAIT FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND SAW A MAN NEAR THE CAR LOOKING AT IT. I YELLED AT HIM TO GET AWAY IN CASE IT BLEW UP. HE DID AND IN ABOUT 30 SECONDS IT BLEW GLASS, AND OTHER BITS ALL ABOUT AND WAS FULLY ENGULFED WITH FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TOOK ABOUT 7 MINUTES TO GET THERE AND THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED AND BURNING UP FROM FRONT TO BACK. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE SCARY THING IS THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING WHAT SO EVER TO LET US KNOW THAT THIS WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. NO SMOKE, NO SMELLS, NOTHING. SINCE 2004, I HAD TO HAVE MY ENGINE REBUILT IN 2009 THE COST WAS 1,700, DUE TO FAILURE IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM"PROBABLE CAUSE WAS THE COOLANT SYSTEM ERODED', AND STILL HAVE COOLANT ISSUES, THE REPAIRS ON THE COOLANT WAS ALMOST 700. AFTER THOSE REPAIRS WERE CONDUCTED, I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO GRAND PRAIRIE FORD, BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD NOT CHANGE GEARS. GRAND PRAIRIE FORD PRESENTED ME A REPAIR LIST STATING AT THAT POINT MY CAR NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND WOULD COST ANOTHER 3,000 TO REPAIR. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO EAGLE TRANSMISSION IN IRVING, TEXAS. THE MANAGER TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND IN FACT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL ERROR AND THAT THE BRAIN WOULD HAVE TO BE RECALIBRATED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK TO GRAND PRAIRIE FORD TO HAVE THE BRAIN RECALIBRATED. THE CAR AT THAT POINT DROVE OFF THEIR LOT JUST FINE. GRAND PRAIRIE FORD WOULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER ON WHY THEY TRIED TO TELL ME THAT I NEEDED PARTS WHEN IN FACT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THEM. THEY DID STATE THEY REPLACED THE SEAT BELTS DUE TO THE RECALL. MY DRIVER SEAT BELT DISENGAGES STILL WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. THE CAR HAS TO WARM UP BEFORE THE DOOR WILL LATCH. I HAVE TRIED LUBRICATING THE DOOR LATCH AND THAT DOESN'T WORK. AS SHE WAS PUTTING CAR IN DRIVE, WHEN LEAVING RESTAURANT THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND SPED UP ON ITS OWN AND EVEN WHILE SHE HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR CAR WOULD NOT STOP, THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK AND SHE WAS TERRIFIED AS SHE WAS HEADING HEAD ON TO THE RESTAURANTS BRICK BUILDING WHERE SHE ENDED UP CRASHING INTO AND PEOPLE INSIDE RESTAURANT SAID THEY WERE HURT AS WELL AS MY CAR GOT BADLY DAMAGED AND THE BUILDING. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE SINCE. THE MAIN ISSUE IS THAT IT HAS HAD THE POTENTIAL TO KILL ME,MY FAMILY AND PASSERS BY ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS . TO START WITH WE REPLACED ALL OF THE PULLEYS ON THE VEHICLE LAST WINTER, DUE TO A CONSTANT SQUEALING NOISE THAT REPLACING THE BELT DID NOT FIX. THIS COST A SMALL FORTUNE AS WE BROKE SEVERAL TOOLS (AND 4 TENSIONER PULLEY'S) AS DID 3 MECHANICS TRYING TO GET THE PULLEYS BACK ON. FORD WAS ABSOLUTELY NO HELP, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE 300 OR MORE DOLLARS TO ATTEMPT THE JOB, THEIR QUOTE WAS SOMETHING LIKE "THOSE THINGS ARE A PAIN IN THE A@# AND WE NEVER KNOW WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT WITH LABOR WHEN WE GET ONE IN!" AFTER NEARLY 2 WEEKS WE COMPLETED THE WORK AND MANY DOLLARS LATER ONLY TO LATER DISCOVER THAT WHEN WE DRIVE IT IN THE RAIN THE BELT COMES OFF! I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AFTER WORK AND WAS GOING TO PARK MY CAR WHEN I HEARD THIS CRUNCH SOUND. 2000 TAURUS DRIVERS DOOR HANDLES FAILED. *TS SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL COVERED UNDER IT'S EXTENDED WARRANTY, THE CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE THE DRIVER' S DOOR OPEN ON THE VEHICLE. ON 12/2/04 I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO FORD FOR A REPAIR. MY CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT DISENGAGING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, I HAD TO STEP ON THE BRAKE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS. THE REPAIR WAS DONE. I HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS UNTIL APROX 12/14/05. THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM RECURRED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL NOT DISENGAGING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER WHO DID THE ORIGINAL REPAIR, I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SERVICE REPAIR SINCE THEY ONLY WARRANTED FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES. I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS WITH ADJUSTABLE PEDALS. THE CAR WAS SERVICED PER THE INSTRUCTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH RECALL CAMPAIGN 01V078000. SHORTLY AFTER THIS REPAIR, THE BRAKE SWITCH WAS CONTAMINATED WITH GREASE CAUSING THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH TO BE STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION DISABLING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND CAUSING THE STOP LAMPS TO STAY ON. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IN OUR CAR HAS NOT PERFORMED PROPERLY ON WET ROADS MANY TIMES. ON JAN 21ST, 2002 AND MAR 13TH, 2002, WE ASKED MUZI FORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY REPORTED, IT IS COMMON TO CONFUSE ABS ACTIVATION WITH DIFFICULTY STOPPING". IN FACT, OUR CAR IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH ABS. ON THE MORNING OF JAN 17TH, 2003, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IN THE SLOW LANE OF I-95; THE CAR IN FRONT OF OUR CAR CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. HE IMMEDIATELY BRAKED. HE WAS STILL FAR AWAY, AND THE SPEED WAS ONLY 45-50 MPH, THE ROAD WAS WET AND OUR CARS BRAKE SYSTEM DID NOT WORK PROPERLY AND IT HIT THE FRONT CAR. THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS WITH OUR CAR. I HAVE HAD THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED IT HAS FAILED AGAIN. THE FRONT HALF SHAFTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THEY HAVE FAILED AGAIN. I HAVE PAID FOR MANY FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENTS WHICH WON'T HOLD. I'VE PAID FOR NEW BRAKES AND MANY TIRE AND WHEEL BALANCNING WHICH ALSO HAVEN'T HELPED. CARL GREGORY FORD DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE FRONT END OF MY CAR AND REFUSE TO DO ANY OTHER REPAIRS UNTIL THE ENGINEER DRIVES IT. I'VE HAD ONE APPOINTMENT WITH THE ENGINEER FOR WHICH HE DIDN'T SHOW UP. THE NEXT APPOINTMENT IS JULY 29 WHO KNOWS WHAT RUN AROUND I WILL GET THEN. I HAVE HAD AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT END OF MY CAR FOR OVER 7 MONTHS AND 10000 MILES. THE CAR WILL NOT HOLD AN ALIGNMENT, THE FRONT END POPS,GRINDS, AND CRACKS, AND DRIVES VERY LOOSE. IT DOES NOT HANDLE THE ROAD WELL AT ALL. IT ISN'T SAFE FOR ME, ESPECIALLY FOR MY CHILDREN NOT TO MENTION ANY OTHER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD ANYWHERE NEAR ME. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE SINCE WE BOUGHT IT FROM TEAM FORD IN JUNE. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR TWO DAYS PER INCIDENT AND THE SAME PROBLEMS CONTINUE WHILE THEY GRADUALLY DISCOVER MORE PROBLEMS EACH TIME. A CAR WITH 5200 MILES ON IT SHOULD NOT NEED THE VARIED AND UNIQUE COMBINATION OF REPLACEMENTS OUR CAR HAS REQUIRED. THE CAR MAKES A ROTATIONAL GRINDING NOISE WHILE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS OR TAKING AN INVOLVED TURN THE CAR MAKES A POP/CRACK NOISE FROM LEFT/FRONT OF CAR. THE CAR HAS STALLED THREE TIMES DURING FREEWAY AND CITY DRIVING. THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW CREAKS AND SHUDDERS WHEN BEING PUT UP OR DOWN. THE CAR HESITATES WHEN STARTED IN 80 DEGREE WEATHER AND COMES CLOSE TO STALLING WHEN INITIALLY PUTTING INTO GEAR. NOW AND THEN CAR MAKES LUNGING MOTION AND NOISE WHEN PUT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE.
