ON 5 15 2015, 2001 FORD TAURUS WITH 32K MILES WAS TAKEN IN FOR AN ALIGNMENT AT A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR BUSINESS. MECHANIC OBSERVED THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE SPRING WAS BROKEN AND HAD DAMAGED THE TIRE. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT FOR THIS VEHICLE AND YEAR. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL FOR THE FRONT SPRINGS FOR VEHICLES IN SPECIFIC STATES, HOWEVER RECALL DOES NOT APPLY TO REAR SPRINGS OR SUSPENSION AS OF MAY 2015. ON NHTSA SAFETY COMPLAINT WEBSITE, DOCUMENTATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED INDICATING AT LEAST TWO DEATHS HAVE BEEN LINKED TO THE FAILURE OF THE REAR SPRINGS.

I WAS ENTERING ONTO THE FREEWAY, AND WHEN I ACCELERATED TO REACH 60MPH, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL, AND HAD TO USE MY BRAKES CONTINUOUSLY TO KEEP FROM CRASHING INTO OTHER CARS UNTIL I COULD GET IT SAFELY PULLED OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE, AND FORCING THE STOP WITH ALL I HAD. THE WHOLE CAR WAS SHAKING. QUITE SCARY. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE CRUISE CABLE BROKE AND GOT CAUGHT ON THE ACCELERATOR CABLE WHICH CAUSED SUDDEN AND UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, FOUND OTHERS WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON THIS, I WILL NEVER KNOW. IF THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF MALFUNCTIONS RESULTING IN POSSIBLE CRASH, DON'T YOU THINK THE MANUFACTURER WOULD PUT THE CONSUMER FIRST, INVESTIGATE IT, AND MAKE IT RIGHT? I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD.

I NOTICED ON THE WEDNESDAY (2/12) THAT THE CAR HAD SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHEN I PARKED THE VEHICLE AT THE SAME WALMART. The contact owns a 2001 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that there was a slight hesitation upon shifting the transmission into drive. The contact stated that the gear selector seized, and the vehicle was no longer able to shift out of park. Additionally, the brake lights were no longer operable. No warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

TODAY, JUNE 24, 2017 AT ABOUT 1:00 PM, I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON A CITY STREET, WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN, TO TURN LEFT ONTO THE STATE HIGHWAY. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, SO I WAS NOT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL AT ALL. SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING, MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT ANY ACTION ON MY PART, AND RAPIDLY STARTED INTO THE BUSY INTERSECTION. DESPITE MY VAIN ATTEMPTS TO STOP MY VEHICLE, BY PUSHING AS HARD IS POSSIBLE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET, IT DIDN'T DECREASE THE ACCELERATION AT ALL. BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN, I WASN'T ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION. I COLLIDED WITH A VAN WHICH WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND GOING ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR THROUGH THE INTERSECTION ON THE GREEN LIGHT. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES (WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF ONE OR BOTH VEHICLES BEING TOTALED), VERY FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO SUBSTANTIAL INJURIES TO THE WOMAN OR HER FOUR YOUNG CRYING CHILDREN IN THE OTHER VEHICLE, NOR TO ME. AFTER MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS OF DRIVING WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT, I WAS SHOCKED AND UPSET BY THIS, AND ALL THE PASSENGERS WERE TRAUMATIZED BY THE ACCIDENT. THE POLICE OFFICER DIDN'T GIVE ME A CITATION, ATTRIBUTING THE ACCIDENT TO A MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION. SEVERAL PEOPLE, INCLUDING YOUNG CHILDREN, COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN KILLED BY THIS AWFUL EXPERIENCE. THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, AND I HOPE YOU WILL INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM, SO THAT OTHER PEOPLE WON'T BE BADLY INJURED OR LOSE THEIR LIVES IN THE FUTURE. AN ADDITIONAL ITEM I SHOULD MENTION IS THAT I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT THIS VEHICLE MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS.

I PURCHASED THE CAR USED FROM A FORD DEALER IN 2004 (APPROX) AND HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM OF THE CAR ENGINE SPEEDING-UP WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THE MECHANIC CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT ALL OF THE FLUIDS WERE FINE; HOWEVER, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE HEADS WERE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND WHEN THE ENGINE OVERHEATED, THEY WARPED AND CRACKED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE ENTIRE MOTOR TO BE REPLACED. SEARS AND THEIR DEFECTIVE CHINESE TIRES. ON JULY 26, 2007, WE PURCHASED FOUR NEW SUMITOMO HTR H4 P215/60HH16 TIRES FOR MY 16 YEAR OLD SONS 2001 TAURUS FROM SEARS IN LINCOLN, NEBRASKA. ON AUGUST 12, 2007 HE DROVE APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE TO GO TO A PARK WITH SOME OF HIS FRIENDS. SHORTLY AFTER PULLING INTO THE PARK, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT. HE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CHANGED THE FLAT TIRE, REPLACING IT WITH THE DONUT IN HIS TRUNK. I HAD NEVER SEEN A NEW TIRE WITH LESS THEN 300 MILES ON IT IN THIS CONDITION. THE FLAT TIRE HAD SPLIT OPEN ALONG THE SIDEWALL. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE TIRE OTHER THEN THIS SPLIT. IT WASN'T SCUFFED LIKE HE HAD HIT A CURB AND THERE WERE NO NAILS OR PUNCTURE HOLES IN THE TIRES. TO ME, IT JUST LOOKED TO BE ANOTHER DEFECTIVE CHINESE TIRE. I HAVE HAD A TERRIBLE TIME WITH THE EMPLOYEES AT SEARS. THEY HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY UNCOOPERATIVE AND WE HAVE NOT YET REACHED A SATISFACTORY RESOLUTION. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF WORKING TOWARDS A RESOLUTION, THEY DID FINALLY AGREE THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE AND PLACED A NEW TIRE ON THE RIM. ONE GOOD BUMP AND WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE LIP WOULD HAVE GIVEN WAY DROPPING THE MOTOR AND I WOULD HAVE LOST MY 21 YEAR OLD SON, POSSIBLY MY HANDICAPPED 23 YEAR OLD SON, THEIR FRIENDS OR GIRLFRIENDS THAT OFTEN TRAVEL IN THIS CAR. I HAVE KEPT THE PARTS. WE ARE STILL IN THE REPAIR MODE AS THE REAR STABILIZERS ARE ALSO IN CORROSION AND NEED REPLACED. CAR WILL ALSO NEED REALIGNMENT AFTERWARDS. THE CAR SHUT OFF AND I WAS ALMOST HIT IN THE REAR BY A SEMI TRUCK. I HAD MY ENTIRE FAMILY IN THE CAR WITH ME AT THE TIME. THIS IS NOT AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALER AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE IGNITION. IT WAS REPLACED AND TWO WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING STARTED. NOW I AM TOLD IT IS A GEM MODULE, OR, PCM MODULE, SEVERAL OTHER THINGS. THIS TO ME IS A VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE. THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THE REAR SPRING COILS, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS AND IT APPEARS THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THE REAR SPRING COILS. ALSO, MY GRANDCHILDREN HAVE NOT BEEN IN MY CAR MUCH IN THE PAST 14 MONTHS, AS THEY HAVE MOVED TO ANOTHER COUNTY. I THEN HAD MY MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT. HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT HE COULD NOT ORDER THE PARTS TO REPLACE THE DOOR LOCKING ACTUATOR. WAS INFORMED BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING, THEN WHEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTATED COULD NOT GET OUT OF PARK SO INSTALLED A NEW BRAKE SWITCH WHICH WORKED FOR LESS THEN AN HOUR. THINKING IT COULD BE A FUSE CHECKED THE MANUAL LIST OF FUSES AND COULD NOT FIND A LISTING FOR THE FUSE THAT WENT TO THE BRAKE SWITCH SO CHECKED FUSES ONE BY ONE TO SEE IF THEY WERE BAD ALL OKAY. SO I ASSUME THE NEW SWITCH WAS BAD AND REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER AND THEY ONE DID NOT WORK EITHER. I CAN NOW GET OUT OF PARK TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT I HAVE NO BRAKE LIGHTS WHICH IS NOT SAFE AT ALL. I WAS JUST TOLD THAT FORD HAD A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE SOME YEAS BACK BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ONE. I FEEL THAT SOMETHING MORE IS GOING ON HERE.

THE AGENT CHECKED OUR VIN AND TOLD US THAT OUR CAR DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THIS RECALL DESPITE HAVING BEEN PRODUCED IN THE CHICAGO MANUFACTURING PLANT, WHICH IS ONE OF THE PLANTS INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. OUR TIRE WAS VERY CLOSE TO BEING SHREDDED BY THE BROKEN SPRING AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THERE WAS VERY LITTLE WARNING TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE UNTIL ONE DAY IT DEVELOPED A CLUNK IN THE FRONT THAT WAS WORSE THAN THE SEVERAL THAT WERE ALREADY THERE. ABOUT THIS SAME TIME THE STEERING BEGAN TO FEEL SLOPPY AS WELL. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR THE FRONT SUB-FRAME WAS RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE A-ARM DISCONNECTED ITSELF FROM THE SUB-FRAME. THE FRONT OF THE A-ARM IS NOW FLOATING FREE. THIS IS THE CAUSE OF THE STEERING SLOP. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SUB-FRAME. RIM (WHEEL) RIPPED APART WITH THE LUG NUTS AND CENTER OF RIM STILL ATTACHED TO CAR / ROTOR: MY SON WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX. 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE. BEFORE HE COULD STEP ON THE BRAKE THE TIRE AND MOST OF THE RIM WAS DETACHED FROM THE CAR CAUSING EXCESSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. FROM THE CENTER LANE, THE CAR WENT SKIDDING OUT OF CONTROL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY BARELY MISSING A LARGE POLE AND EVENTUALLY COMING TO A STOP. THE MECHANIC ON THE SCENE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN HIS LONG CAREER OF MECHANICS. HE TOLD MY SON THAT HE WAS VERY LUCKY HE WAS ON EVEN PAVEMENT BECAUSE THE CAR COULD HAVE EASILY FLIPPED CAUSING MAJOR INJURY AND PROBABLY DEATH. HOOD OR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WON'T OPEN. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER AND HE FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR STRUT WAS RUINED DUE TO THE BROKEN COIL SPRING AND REPLACED IT. THE DEALER SAID THE LEFT REAR SPRING WAS GOOD AND DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. ON THE DATE BELOW ABOUT 8.00 AM, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH MY 2001 FORD TAURUS. ALTHOUGH IT WAS VERY COLD THAT MORNING THE SKIES WERE CLEAR AND THEIR WAS NO PRECIPITATION AT ALL. ROADWAYS WERE CLEAR FOR THE MOST PART. I WAS COMING DOWN A MOUNTAIN ROAD TRAVELING TO WORK WHEN I ENCOUNTERED AN ICY PATCH OF ROAD THAT HAD FORMED PROBABLY DUE TO FROST CONDITIONS SINCE IT WAS VERY COLD. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES MY FORD TAURUS SEEMED TO ACCELERATE PUSHING ME FASTER DOWN THE HILL. A SLOW MOVING TRUCK WAS A HEAD OF ME AND I COULD NOT SLOW DOWN IN TIME. AT THE SAME TIME A CAR WAS IN IN THE PASSING LANE BESIDE ME SINCE THIS WAS A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. I SWERVED AN STRUCK THE CAR IN THE PASSING LANE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. MY TAURUS HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE GARAGE AND UPON REPAIRING THE VEHICLE I WAS NOTIFIED THAT A FUEL CENSOR NEEDED REPLACING AT MY EXPENSE. I SPOKE WITH THE MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THIS PART COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO ACCELERATE SUDDENLY. MY INSURANCE IS FORCING ME TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ACCIDENT AND THE POLICE HAS CITED ME ALSO. I WAS NOT SPEEDING AS EVIDENCED BY THE CAR PASSING ME. WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AT A STEADY SPEED, THE CAR BEGAN TO SPEED UP RAPIDLY, REACHING NEAR 55 MPH WITHIN SECONDS. THE ENGINE STAYED AROUND 4,000 RPM AND USING THE BRAKES ONLY SLOWED THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT STOP IT. TO AVOID A CRASH, THE ONLY OPTION I HAD WAS TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN IN TO A PARKING LOT. ONCE IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE'S RPM REMAINED CLOSE TO 4,000. AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION OFF, I INSPECTED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR TO FIND THAT THE FLIMSY PLASTIC PIECE THAT HOLDS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE IN THE PROPER POSITION WAS BROKEN IN SEVERAL PLACES, LEAVING THE CABLE FREE TO GET CAUGHT ON WHAT IS LEFT OF THE PLASTIC PIECE EXTREMELY EASILY. SINCE THAT INCIDENT, THE EXACT SAME SITUATION HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. DUE TO THE PLASTIC PIECE BEING BROKEN, THE CABLE DOES NOT SIT INSIDE THE PLASTIC PIECE AS INTENDED, WHICH HAS CAUSED THE RPM TO STAY HIGHER THAN NORMAL AT ALL TIMES WHEN THE CAR IS IN GEAR. WHILE DRIVING, REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO BEGIN DECELERATING BEFORE A STOP HAS NO EFFECT, AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED AT ALL TIMES. SLOWING THE VEHICLE CAN ONLY BE DONE BY USING THE BRAKES. THIS SITUATION CAME VERY SUDDENLY WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PRIOR SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF ANY PROBLEM. THE RAPID, UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION POSES A SEVERE SAFETY THREAT TO DRIVER AND ANYBODY AROUND THE VEHICLE. I HAD JUST PUNCHED THE GAS PEDAL AND THEN WENT TO HIT THE BRAKES A FEW SECONDS LATER, BUT THE CAR WASN'T REALLY SLOWING. THEN I POPPED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE CABLES THAT WENT TO THE THROTTLE HAD SLID OUT OF A GREY BOOT AND WAS JAMMED AGAINST THE SIDE OF THAT BOOT HOLDING THE THROTTLE OPEN. I MOVED IT BACK SO THAT IT POPPED INTO THE CENTER. STARTED IT UP AGAIN AND IT WAS FINE. CLOSER EXAMINATION LATER SHOWED THAT THE GREY CONNECTOR THAT HOLDS THE CABLE IN THE CENTER HAD LITTLE BITS BROKEN OFF. IF THOSE BITS THERE , IT WOULD PREVENT THE CABLE FROM SLIDING OUT. APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO, I WAS HAVING MECHANIC PROBLEMS WITH MY 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD IT INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. THE EGR VALVE AND EGR SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THERE WAS AIR LEAKS IN THE AIR HOSE ASSY, REPLACED AIR TUBE ASSY, PARTS (YF1Z6758A AND F6DZ6758A), AFTER THAT THE CAR RAN FINE (FOR ONE DAY). I HAD A PROBLEM ALSO WITH THE CAR ENGINE IDLE (ROUGH IDLE), CAR ENGINE WOULD STOP RUNNING AT A STOP LIGHT. (THE CAR ENGINE LIGHT WENT BACK ON AGAIN). I TOOK THE CAR TO A CAR REPAIR SHOP (PEPBOYS) AND THEY RAN CAR ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC CE SCAN AND GOT (ERROR CODE P0174 SYSTEM TOO LEAN B1 AND B2). THEY REPLACED PCV HOSE (ELBOW HOSE) THAT WAS LEAKING, (PART YF1Z6A664AB PCV HOSE, LF 0019.5800 PO 10332245.). AFTER THAT THE CAR ENGINE IS RUNNING GOOD (SO FAR). THIS MAY HELP IN LOCATING SOME OF THE PROBLEMS WITH CAR ENGINES TRYING TO GO FORWARD WHILE THE DRIVERS ARE APPLYING THE BRAKES. NEED BETTER AIR HOSES THAT WILL NOT LEAK.

I OWN A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE FRONT AND REAR COIL SPRINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWO TIMES OVER THE YEARS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS BUT NONE ON THE REAR. MY RECENT INCIDENT OCCURRED IN OCTOBER. I HAD FIVE KIDS IN THE CAR WHEN THE FRONT COIL BROKE OFF AND RIPPED THE TIRE. THE COST TO FIX WAS $1,700. APPROX. MID-MAY 2008 NOTICED COOLANT SMELL IN CAR AND WATER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR INSIDE 2001 FORD TAURUS WAGON. WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, AC BLOWER MOTOR ONLY WORKED ON HIGH. TOOK TO SHERWOOD FORD IN SALISBURY, MD END OF MAY 2008 FOR REPAIR. THEY REPLACED RESISTORS TO BLOWER MOTOR AND STATED PROBLEM WAS DUE TO CORROSION FROM WATER DAMAGE FROM LEAK IN WINDSHIELD/COWL. BLOWER WORKED FINE UNTIL AUGUST 18, 2008 STARTED WORKING ONLY ON HIGH AGAIN. TOOK BACK TO SHERWOOD FORD 8-25-08, THEY ARE CURRENTLY REPLACING RESISTORS AGAIN AND STATE THAT BLOWER MOTOR SHOULD BE REPLACED TOO BECAUSE IT IS NOT WORKING UP TO PAR DUE TO WATER DAMAGE. INTERNET SEARCH OF FORD TAURUS COWL LEAK REVEALS MANY OTHER PEOPLE OWNING FORD TAURUS/MERCURY SABLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND FORD WILL NOT ISSUE RECALL. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED BY FORD AND NOT THE CONSUMER. I BOUGHT A NEW FORD TAURUS IN 2001. THREE MONTHS AFTER MY PURCHASE, A VIBRATION BEGAN IN THE FRONT END. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND HAD REPAIRS. TO MY DISMAY, THE CAR BEGAN TO VIBRATE AGAIN IN JANUARY 2002. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR REPAIRS AGAIN. APRIL 2002 THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, SO MORE REPAIRS. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL I GAVE THE CAR BACK (JULY 2004) DUE TO THESE PROBLEMS AND MANY OTHERS. THE DEALERSHIP, SILSBEE FORD, SEEMED TO ONLY FIX THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY,RESULTING IN ME RETURNING THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND AGAIN. I BELIEVE THERE WAS AN UNDERLYING PROBLEM THAT WAS OVERLOOKED AND I ASSUMED TAKING THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP THE PROBLEM WOULD HAVE BEEN FOUND AND PROPERLY FIXED. BY MAR 2003 APPR. 21,000 MILES ONE CV SHAFT AND AXLE SEAL REPLACED, ROD ASY REPLACED AT 38,000 MILES, AND BY JAN 2004 THE OTHER CV AXLE WAS REPLACED. THIS CAR HAS HAD THREE SETS OF TIRES BEFORE 60,000 MILES, NEW ROTORS AT APPR. 38,000 MILES. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED A NUMBER OF TIMES BEFORE REPLACING. CONSUMERS NEED TO BE INFORMED OF MAKESHIFT REPAIRS DONE AT DEALERSHIPS. I TURNED IN MY CAR TO THE COMPANY BECAUSE IT WAS GETTING TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND OBVIOUSLY THE DEALERSHIP WASN'T COMPETENT ENOUGH TO FIND THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED MANY DIFFERENT AVENUES TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS SITUATION AND THE FORD COMPANY KEEPS STATING THE WARRANTY IS OUT. WE NOTICED THE LOWER HALF OF THE CAR IS COVERED WITH SMALL RUST SPOTS 44000 MILES. WE DO NOT HAVE AN ESTIMATE ON FIXING THIS PROBLEM. AT 39000 MILES WE BEGAN EXPERIENCING A RATTLE UNDER THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD. THIS HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND NOTHING HAS BEEN FOUND SO FAR, HOWEVER THE RATTLE CONTINUES TO GROW WORSE. JUST UNDER 30000 MILES THE FRONT BRAKES REQUIRED REPLACMENT. NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE INSTALLED, HOWEVER WITHIN A WEEKS TIME THE CAR WAS BACK IN FOR MORE BRAKE WORK. THE PADS WERE REPLACED BY THE SHOP, BUT THE SQEAKING HAS RETURNED AGAIN.( WE DID NOT HAVE THE BRAKES REPAIRED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.) THE FUEL GAUGE READS ERRACTICLY BETWEEN FULL AND 1/4. I HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO HAVE THIS FIXED YET. THE ENGINE HAS DEVELOPED A HARD STARTING PROBLEM WITHIN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. IT WILL CRANK AND NOT START. THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF ATTEMPTS, IT WILL START BUT IDLE ROUGH.

BOUGHT USED 2001 TAURUS IN AUG. OF 2002. ON THE TEST DRIVE I NOTICED THE CAR PULLED TO THE LEFT AND THERE WAS VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER AT NO COST TO ME DID A WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND WHEEL BALANCE. I DROVE AGAIN AND IT WAS FINE. APPROXIMATELY 4500 MILES LATER THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION RETURNED AND THE CAR WAS AGAIN PULLING SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THE LIKELY CAUSE OF THE VIBRATION WAS THAT A WHEEL WEIGHT WAS LOST, BUT HAD NO EXPLAINATION FOR THE PULLING. THEY REBALANCED THE WHEELS AND ROTATED THE TIRES. AGAIN EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL NOV. 2003 AS I WAS DRIVING I ONCE AGAIN FELT THE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT WAS MUCH MORE SEVERE ON CORNERING. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP(NEAREST FORD DEALER WAS 25 MILES AWAY). THEY FOUND THE LEFT FRONT TIRE TO HAVE A FLAT SPOT ON THE OUTER TREAD AREA(SLIPPED BELT) AND BOTH OUTER TIE ROD ENDS TO BE LOOSE, THE LEFT ONE BEING EXTERMELY WORN. THEY INDICATED TO ME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE CONTINENTAL OE TIRES NOT HOLDING BALANCE, HAVING BAD WEAR PROBLEMS, ETC. THEY INSTALLED TWO AFTERMARKET, GREASABLE TIE ROD ENDS AND DID A WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND ROTATION. AT THIS POINT I HAVE SUBMITTED THE REPAIR BILL TO A FORD DEALER FOR POSSIBLE REIMBURSMENT, HOWEVER I AM NOT HOLDING MY BREATH. MY OPINION IS THAT CONTINENTAL TIRES ARE JUNK AND FORD KNOWS IT. THE FORD DEALER INDICATED TO ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD NO OTHE PROBLEMS LIKE MINE, A MUCH DIFFERENT OPINION THAN THE INDEPENDENT GARAGE. ALSO TIE ROD ENDS USUALLY DON'T FAIL AT 39K MILES FOR NO REASON. I HAVE A FRIEND THAT HAS A 2002 TAURUS WITH CONTINENTAL TIRES AND HAS HAD TO HAVE THEM BALANCED SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION.

PROBLEMS WITH 2001 FORD TAURUS BRAKE ROTORS.*MR THE FRONT END VIBRATED AND THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. FORD WAS ORDERED TO REPAIR ALL REPAIRS BUT THEY ONLY TURNED THE ROTORS. *PH ALSO THE PASSENGER WINDOW DRAGGED, THE LIGHTS DIMMED WHEN THE RADIO OR HEATER WAS ON, AND ALSO THE TRANSMISSION JERKED AT TIMES AND THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, THE MECHANIC STATED IT WAS DUE TO TIRE WEAR. *JB

ON MARCH 6, 2001, I PURCHASED A 2001 FORD TAURUS LX, FROM CHINO HILLS FORD, CHINO, CALIFORNIA 91710. ON APRIL 6, 2001, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FORD WEST, ARTESIA BLVD., BELLFLOWER BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE STRANGE PART IS WHEN I PHONED THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM, THEY GAVE ME INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SHIFT THE GEAR AS IF IT WAS PART OF MY OWNER'S MANUAL. I GOT THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE TAURUS VEHICLE. WHEN THE SERVICE DEPARMENT AT FORD WEST PULLED THE INFORMATION UP ON THE CAR FROM THE COMPUTER, IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE CAR'S REAR BUMPER HAD BEEN REPLACED WHEN IT HAD 5 MILES ON IT. (THIS WAS NEVER DISCLOSED TO ME). I PICKED UP THE CAR DROVE HOME AND THE BRAKE SWITCH WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME I CALLED CHINO HILLS FORD TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THE BRAKE SWITCH. I DROVE THE CAR TO CHINO HILLS ON APRIL 12, 2001, I WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE SERVICE PERSONNEL THAT THERE WERE LOOSE WIRES AND I HAD NO BRAKE LIGHTS. ALL OF THIS WAS ASSESSED BY HIM WITHOUT TAKING THE VEHICLE INTO THE SERVICE AREA. CHINO HILLS SUPPLIED ME WITH A RENTAL AND SAID IT WOULD PROBABLY TAKE A DAY TO REPAIR. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CHECK THE CAR THOROUGHLY SINCE THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURED MORE THAN ONCE IN SUCH A SHORT TIME OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR I COULD FEEL THAT THE BRAKES WERE STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY, SO I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO FEEL AS THOUGH THEY WERE NOT TAKING MY CONCERNS SERIOUSLY. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE ON THE CAR. TWO ENGINEERING COMPANIES INVESTIGATED AND FOUND OIL IN THE BRAKE LINE. NOW FORD DOES NOT WANT TO COMPENSATE ME WITH A NEW CAR AND OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES FOR A RENTAL. A MORE DETAILED LETTER HAS BEEN SENT TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY, PRODUCT CLAIM DEPARTMENT. I DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP. FORD SAYS THE CAR IS READY, BUT I FEAR FOR MY FAMI LY'S SAFETY!!!!
