I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE AT WORK AND I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THEN FTHE AIR WWNT OUT OF MY TIRE ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE REAL. ONCE THE TIRE WAS REMOVED IT REVEALED A LARGE GASH IN THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE AS A RESULT BROKEN COIL.

DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED TIRE. VEHICLE WAS THANKFULLY PARKED WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THERE WAS A RECALL NO. 04V332000, FOR 1999-2001 MODELS - CURIOUS WHY IT STOPPED THERE? MULTIPLE ONLINE FORUMS INDICATE THIS ISSUE CONTINUED PAST 2001. PHOTOS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED.

A STRANGE GRINDING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE AREA WHICH WAS VERY NOTICABLE TRYING TO BACK OUT OF DRIVEWAY, SO PULLED BACK IN AND LOOKED TO SEE WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG. I NOTICED A BURNING RUBBER SMELL AND THAT THE WHEEL CLEARANCE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY LESS ON PASSENGER VERSE DRIVER FRONT TIRE. DROVE UP ONTO RAMPS TO LOOK FROM BENEATH AND COULD CLEARLY SEE THE END OF THE COIL POKING INTO THE INSIDE EDGE OF THE TIRE WITH A WORN MARK ALL THE WAY AROUND WHERE IT WAS PUSHING INTO THE RUBBER. AFTER CAREFULLY BACKING OFF RAMPS, IT WAS JACKED UP AND PLACED ON JACK STANDS, AT WHICH TIME IT WAS CLEARLY VISIBLE THE COIL SPRING WAS SNAPPED IN TWO. IT IS A MIRACLE THIS WAS FOUND BEFORE MY SISTER DROVE 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY SHE WAS ABOUT TO. THIS WOULD'VE CERTAINLY CAUSED A BLOWOUT AND POTENTIALLY A FIRE, AND AT THOSE SPEEDS COULD'VE CERTAINLY BEEN DEADLY.

I REGRET TO REPORT THAT MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF 3 COIL SPRING ASSEMBLIES AND A SUBSEQUENT FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE FAILURE DUE TO A PUNCTURE A FEW MONTHS AGO WHILE WAS DRIVING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED IN HER PARENTS' NEIGHBORHOOD IN WINONA. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY. WE ARE THANKFUL SHE WASN'T DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON THE INTERSTATE. THE CORROSION OF THE COIL SPRINGS HAS BEEN A KNOWN DESIGN PROBLEM FOR YEARS. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE 2003 MODEL YEAR IS NOT ON A RECALL AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER EARLIER MODEL YEARS OF TAURUS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME ISSUE IN THE PAST, SO CORROSION OF THE COILS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THE CAR IS A 2003 FORD TAURUS, 73,663 ACTUAL MILES, WELL-MAINTAINED, NO VISIBLE EXTERNAL RUST, GARAGED NIGHTLY. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA.

AFTER THE DRIVING MY CAR ON APRIL 22 (A FRIDAY), I PARKED THE CAR FOR THE EVENING. ON APRIL 23, 2016 (A SATURDAY MORNING), I CAME OUTSIDE TO FIND MY 6-MO.-OLD LEFT FRONT TIRE FLAT AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT. A FRIEND TOOK OFF THE TIRE AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE STRUT SPRING WAS BROKEN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC ON APRIL 25, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE STRUT SPRING WAS INDEED BROKEN, AND I HAD IT REPLACED. RESEARCH AND TALKING WITH OTHERS BROUGHT TO LIGHT A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE ON VEHICLE YEARS 1998-2001, HOWEVER, OTHER DRIVERS WERE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NEWER MODELS OF THE SAME VEHICLES. THIS CLAIM IS FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE COST OF REPLACING ONLY THE BROKEN LEFT STRUT SPRING (A QUICK STRUT) AND THE TOW TO THE GARAGE.

The contact stated that when taking the vehicle out of the park(P) after starting the vehicle, which required the brake pedal to be depressed, the contact could not depress the shifter button out of the park. The contact stated that the shift button would not depress. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact turned the vehicle off and turned the vehicle back on but had to pump the brake pedal to shift the vehicle out of the park. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V106000 (Exterior Lighting). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT POSTED SPEEDS WHEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW WITH THE ACCELERATOR STILL PRESSED, ALMOST GETTING REAR ENDED I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. I REALIZED THE CAR WAS RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT GO FORWARD OR REVERSE. I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I WAITED THREE HOURS FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO SHOW UP AND THEN HAD IT TOWED 80 MILES TO MY HOUSE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER SPLINES WOULD FAIL WITH NO WARNING. I ALSO DID SOME TEST TO CONFIRM IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS DONE NOTHING TO RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM. DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE GETTING KILLED FIRST? FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED.

HAD TO REPLACE MY TORQUE CONVERTER FOR $1,300 WHICH IS RIDICULOUS CONSIDERING THERE IS ONLY 87,000 MILES. THERE HAS BEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS! WOULDN'T LEAVE PARK, HAD IT TOWED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY.

WHILE GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM WORK (AT 6:40PM ON DEC 1ST, 2016) THE TRANSMISSION NO LONGER ENGAGED. I HAD TO COAST OVER TO A FIELD AND PARK WHILE AVOIDING ON-GOING TRAFFIC. I LOST ALL ENGAGEMENT WITH THE GEARS (RD21), AND IT IS LIKE BEING IN PERPETUAL NEUTRAL. THE SPLINES OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER ARE STRIPPED. FORD MADE THEM TOO SMALL, SO THEY STRIP. THE CAR HAS 126,000 MILES ON IT, AND IS ONLY USED TO GO TO AND FROM WORK. THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS EXACT PROBLEM, YET FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE SITUATION.

I OWN A 2003 FORD TAURUS THAT BEGAN HAVING WATER LEAKS THAT KEPT SHORTING OUT THE VEHICLES BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR. THESE EVENTS OCCURRED BETWEEN 12/10/2010 TO 05/24/2011 DURING WHICH AT MY EXPENSE TWO RESISTORS WERE INSTALLED. AFTER A SHORT PERIOD THEY CONTINUED TO FAIL AS DID THE BLOWER MOTOR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD WATER DAMAGE THAT CAUSED THE BLOWER MOTOR TO FAIL. A NEW BLOWER MOTOR PLUS NEW COWL INSULATION WAS IN STALLED AT A COST OF $468.42.THE TWO RESISTORS I PREVIOUSLY HAD INSTALLED COST $80.00 PARTS AND LABOR. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY AUTOMOTIVE MODEL AND FORD SHOULD HAD A RECALL AND FIXED THIS FACTORY DEFECT. I FEEL I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I HAVE HEARD THAT THIS REPAIR SHOULD FALL UNDER FORD RECALL 03V087000 BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS NO. DRIVING IN INTERMITTENT RAIN SHOWERS AT 60-70MPH I HAD THE ENGINE CUT OUT AND DROPPED OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL. SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER BOUNCING UP AND DOWN. THEFT AND ENGINE LIGHT WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF AT THE SAME TIME AS ENGINE WAS STALLING. THEN THE ENGINE REENGAGED AT 50-55 MPH AND CONTINUED ON NOW RESPONSIVE TO GAS PEDAL AND ACCELERATION. THIS REPEATED 5 - 8X IN THE SPAN OF 15 MILES AND SEVERAL TIMES PULLING OVER. WEATHER CLEARED AND DROVE ANOTHER 100 MILES WITH NO EVENTS. NEXT MORNING DRIVING KIDS TO SCHOOL AFTER 10 MINUTES OF RUNNING 25-40MPH THE SAME PROBLEM RECURRED BUT ENGINE DID NOT RECOVER AND COMPLETELY STALLED 3X IN 1 MILE. RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY EACH TIME. READING THROUGH POTENTIAL CAUSES THERE WERE NO LESS THAN 30 OTHER INDIVIDUALS DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THEFT LIGHT ON AND ENGINE STALLING WHILE DRIVING. VARIOUS SOLUTIONS PROPOSED FROM ELECTRICAL GROUNDS, BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, FUSE. MEGA FUSE, DPFE (DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FUEL EXHAUST?) SENSOR, EGR (EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION) SYSTEM, PCM, ICR, AND SEVERAL OTHERS. NOT SURE WHICH IT MIGHT BE. GIVEN THERE ARE SO MANY AND THAT IT OCCURS IN POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS - AT HIGH SPEED AND NO WARNING - THIS SEEMS TO BE WORTHY OF AN INVESTIGATION OR RECALL.

THE CONTACT HAD TO CONTINUOUSLY MANEUVER THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN POSITION. TODAY A COLD FRONT MOVED IN. I RECEIVED THE VEHICLE FROM MY GRANDPARENTS AND IT HAS SPENT ITS WHOLE LIFE IN THE GARAGE.NOW IT IS ALWAYS OUTSIDE. MULTIPLE TIMES THIS YEAR THE DOOR LATCHES HAVE GOTTEN STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. THIS CAUSES THE DOORS NOT TO SHUT, AND ME HAVING TO HOLD THEM CLOSED AS I DRIVE. THEY EVENTUALLY START WORKING ( USUALLY AFTER 20-30 MINS OF DRIVING). I HAVE TRIED DE-ICER AND GREASE BUT NOTHING WORKS. MY BATTERY LIGHT GOES ON A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE ENGINE STARTS AND I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE. THE LIGHT STAYS ON TILL I TURN CAR OFF. REPLACED BATTERY, REPLACED STARTER, HAD THE ALTERNATOR CHECKED AND WAS TOLD ITS NUMBERS WERE GOOD BUT NO ONE KNOWS WHY THE BATTERY LIGHT GOES ON. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND THE WIRES ARE MELTING BECAUSE OF THEIR POSITION ON AND AROUND THE ALTERNATOR. THERE IS ONE, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT SITS ACROSS ON TOP OF THE ALTERNATOR AND APPEARS TO BE MELTING AS THE UNIT GETS HOT. WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL MECHANICS THAT THIS HAS BEEN A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM ON THESE CARS. FORD HAS CHANGED THE POSITIONING OF THEIR ALTERNATOR WIRES ON LATER MODELS. IT CONCERNS ME THAT THIS CAN CAUSE A FIRE OR CAN AFFECT OTHER CONNECTED COMPONENTS. THE BATTERY LIGHT REFUSES TO TURN OFF.

FOR THE FIRST 6 YEARS THIS CAR WAS GARAGED, AS SOON AS IT WAS PARKED OUTSIDE, EXPOSED TO THE WEATHER, A VERY BAD WATER LEAK APPEARED. I CONSTANTLY GET WATER ON THE FLOOR OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. THIS LEAK FRIED MY BLOWER MOTOR, RESULTING IN NO HEAT. THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS REPLACED, BUT THE LEAK IS STILL PRESENT. ONCE AGAIN, I FIND MYSELF WITH NO HEAT. THE BLOWER MOTOR WORKS, BUT IS NOT GETTING ANY POWER TO IT. THE RESISTOR HAS BEEN REPLACED, AND ALL FUSES AND RELAYS ARE FINE. DRIVING IN CONNECTICUT WITH NO HEAT IN THE WINTER IS A DIFFICULT TASK.

REAR BRAKES WENT OUT DUE TO DEFECTIVE WHEEL CYLINDERS. THE WHEEL CYLINDERS ON BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES WERE LEAKING AND/OR COMPLETELY BROKEN. THIS CAUSED THE REAR BRAKES TO COMPLETELY GIVE OUT CAUSING NOT ONLY A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION, BUT A COMPLETE REBUILDING OF MY REAR BRAKES: DRUMS, SHOES, WHEEL CYLINDERS, ASSEMBLY KITS, SELF-ADJUSTING KITS, AND LINES. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON A FREEWAY IN AZ, DOING APPROX 70 IN THE LEFT LANE MY VEHICLE STOPPED MOVING FORWARD AND THE RPM'S WENT FROM NORMAL TO REVVING. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND WENT INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND TOOK THE OFF RAMP AND COASTED INTO A STRIP MALL. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO ANYTHING BUT PARK. DRIVE OR REVERSE DIDN'T WORK. I LEFT THE CAR THERE. THAT EVENING I READ A LOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT THIS SAME THINK HAPPENING TO MANY FORD OWNERS. ALL THESES INCIDENTS WERE THE SAME, TORQUE CONVERTER, IT STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS MANUFACTURED WITH "TOO SMALL SPLINES" AND WERE AN INFERIOR FORD PART. IT ALSO STATED THAT A COMPANY NAMED DACCO HAD MADE A NEW UPDATED CONVERTER WITH LARGER SPLINES THAT WOULD HOLD UP BETTER AND THEY ARE SOLD AT AUTOZONE FOR $120. MY CAR IS NOW BEING LOOKED AT AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION REBUILT (ANYWHERE FROM $2000 - $3000). IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THE TRANSAXLES IN THESE GENERATION FORD TAURUSES WERE PRONE TO TRANSAXLE FAILURE, AS WERE THE FORD WINDSTARS AS BOTH VEHICLES USED THE SAME TRANSAXLE. UPON STUDYING UP ON THESE PROBLEMS IT SEEMS FORD MOTOR CO. RECALLED THE WINDSTAR AND CALLED IT A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER CAUSING THE PROBLEMS. WHY DID THEY NOT RECALL THE TAURUSES ALSO, ANSWER: AMOUNT OF VEHICLES PRODUCED OF EACH MODEL AND THEIR FEET WERE NOT "HELD TO THE FIRE" BY YA'LL AND OUR GOV.. NOW TO GET TO THE LIGHTING PROBLEM: THE MOST SAFETY HAZARDOUS ITEM WHICH HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON VEHICLES IN THE LAST 15-20 YEARS IS THOSE DAMNED "PLASTIC LENSED HEADLIGHTS" THAT WITHIN 3 YEARS WILL "FOG OVER" TO THE EXTENT THEY DO NOT PRODUCE ENOUGH LIGHT TO BE USEFULL AT NIGHT. ON THE ABOVE DATE THE TRANSAXLE IN THIS CAR QUIT WORKING. THE TORQUE CONVERTER BROKE A GEAR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THIS IS PREVALENT IN THE 2003 FORD TAURUS AND THE 2003 WINDSTAR VANS. FORD RECALLED THE WINDSTARS BUT NOT THE TAURUS'. I HAD IT ,THE TRANSAXLE,REBUILT AND PUT ONLY 3000 TO 3200 MILES FROM THE DATE OF THIS REPAIR. ABOUT 5 WEEKS AGO THE SAME THING HAPPENED. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE A 2003 FORD TAURUS IT IS A FLEX FUEL VEHICLE. WE HAVE RECENTLY GOTTEN E85 GAS IN OUR AREA AND I USE IT PERIODICALLY. I HAVE BEEN HAVING "STARTING ISSUES" WITH IT; OVER THE PAST YEAR IT HAS HAD THE IACV REPLACED TWICE, THE FUEL PUMP, THE STARTER AND THE FUEL FILTER ALL REPLACED ONCE. THE FUEL FILTER WAS REPLACED WITH IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS. THE CAR EITHER WILL ACT LIKE IT DOES NOT WANT TO START (SPUTTER STARTING), OR IT WILL DIE RIGHT AFTER PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2003 FORD TAURUS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS THE RESULT OF A CRACKED FUEL FILLER NECK. MY REPAIR INVOICE STATES THAT "FILLER NECKS ARE USUALLY CRACKED WHEN FUEL FILL NOZZLES ARE INSERTED IMPROPERLY OR NEGIGENTLY." I LIVE IN NEW JERSEY WHERE IT IS ILLEGAL TO PUMP YOUR OWN GASOLINE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN FILLED AT THE SAME GAS STATION AT EVERY FILL-UP. THERE IS NOTHING TO SUGGEST THAT THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT DID ANYTHING DIFFERENTLY AT THE LAST FUELING OF THE VEHICLE, BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MULTIPLE FORD SERVICE ADVISORS THAT THIS DAMAGE HAD TO OCCUR AT MY LAST FILL-UP. THERE WAS NO SIGN THAT THE NOZZLE WAS FORCED INTO THE FILLER NECK, NOR WAS THERE ANYTHING THAT SUGGESTED ANY UNUSUAL FORCE OR TORQUE WAS BEING APPLIED TO THE NOZZLE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT HE HAS SEEN MULTIPLE FAILURES OF THESE PARTS AND FORD TAKES THE POSITION THAT UNLESS THE CRACK IS ALONG THE SEAM OF THE PLASTIC CASTING THAT IT IS THE RESULT OF DAMAGE, NOT A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT REPAIRABLE UNDER WARRANTY. I FEEL THAT A COMPONENT THIS CRITICAL SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE FORCE OF A GASOLINE PUMP NOZZLE BEING INSERTED INTO IT, AND SHOULD HAVE SUFFICIENT ADDITIONAL STRENGTH TO WITHSTAND THE UPPER LIMIT OF FORCES THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO IT WITH THAT NOZZLE.*AK

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED SEVERAL WIRING MALFUNCTIONS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WOULD PERIODICALLY ILLUMINATE AUTOMATICALLY, AND THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ALSO TURNING ON AND OFF WITHOUT ACTIVATING THE LIGHT SWITCH. THE ENGINE WOULD ALSO REV AUTOMATICALLY AND, WHEN SWITCHING FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE ENGINE WOULD REV AGAIN. IN ADDITION, WHEN IN PARK, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF BY ITSELF AND HAVE TO BE PLACED INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO BE RESTARTED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS ALSO PERFORMED, BUT IT DID NOT PRODUCE A FAILURE CODE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

HAVE A 2003 FORD TAURUS SES; 80K MILES. INITIALLY, MY FAN ONLY WORKED ON HIGH. I JUST DEALT W/ IT, NO BIG DEAL, BUT EVENTUALLY, MY ALTERNATOR WENT OUT... SO AFTER I CHANGED THAT, MY FAN NO LONGER WORKS AT ALL. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR & THE RESISTOR FOR IT. DRIVERS SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING IN THE STRUT BROKE AND SLASHED THE ADJACENT TIRE. THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN THE CAR WAS BEGINNING TO BE BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. WE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH STRUT ASSEMBLIES FOR SAFETY SAKE, REPLACE THE DAMAGED TIRE AS WELL. WE OPTED TO REPLACE THE OTHER THREE TIRES DUE TO WEAR. ALSO, THE GARAGE RECOMMENDED WE REPLACE THE BALL JOINTS AND LH SIDE TIE ROD END. THE FRONT END WAS ALIGNED AS WELL. TOTAL COST $1871. I AM OUTRAGED THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR 1999 THRU 2001 TAURUS CARS BUT NOTHING COVERING UP TO AND INCLUDING 2003'S. I ALSO THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT THE CUTOFF TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN A CAR EXCEEDS 100000 MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN DESIGN DEFECT AND ALL FORD TAURUS CARS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND REPAIRED. MY DAUGHTER WAS LUCKY THIS FAILURE OCCURRED IN A PARKING LOT AND NOT WHEN GOING 65MPH! I WAS DRIVING DOWN A SIDE STREET WHEN THE CAR QUIT MOVING FORWARD. I COASTED TO A STOP AND TRIED REVERSE, AND IT WOULD NOT GO IN THAT DIRECTION EITHER. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I HAD A BABY IN THE CAR AND A TRUNK FULL OF GROCERIES. I GOT OUT AND CHECKED ALL THE FLUIDS. THEY WERE FULL. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CLEAR. THE MAINTENANCE BOOK SAID NOT TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID UNTIL 100,000. MY CAR HAS ONLY 73,000 MILES. THIS CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED. I PAID TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST CAR REPAIR SHOP. THEY DETERMINED IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND COULD NOT FIX IT. I THEN HAD TO PAY TO TOW IT TO ANOTHER SHOP THAT INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A CHARACTERISTIC PROBLEM OF A 2003 FORD TAURUS. WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE TO LEAVE FOR WORK IN THE MORNING I HEARD A LOUD POPPING AND SCREECH COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. I STOPPED AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND FOUND MY TIRE FLAT. UPON INSPECTION BY MY MECHANIC IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING JUST SNAPPED WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING A LARGE TEAR IN THE TIRE. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE BECAME STUCK. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER PLACED EXCESSIVE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT ASSISTED THE DRIVER WITH RELEASING THE STUCK CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE CONTACT CALLED AVIS FORD INC AT 248-355-7500 (29200 TELEGRAPH RD, SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN 48034) AND WAS INFORMED THAT AN UNKNOWN RECALL REPAIR WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT BE DONE AGAIN. ENTERED HIGHWAY ON-RAMP. AS I MERGED ONTO HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, I NOTICE THAT THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING FASTER THAN USUAL FOR THE AMOUNT OF THROTTLE I WAS USING. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE THROTTLE COMPLETELY AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOWLY BUT STEADILY ACCELERATE. WITHOUT PLACING MY FOOT ON THE THROTTLE, I CONTINUED DOWN THE HIGHWAY TO THE NEXT EXIT. AS I APPROACHED THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE EXIT, I BEGAN BRAKING. FEELING THE ENGINE FIGHT THE BRAKES, I MOVED THE SHIFT LEVEL INTO NEUTRAL AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE EXIT. AS SOON AS I PLACED THE SHIFT LEVER INTO NEUTRAL, ENGINE RPM SHOT UP AS IF THE ACCELERATOR WAS BEING DEPRESSED. REPEATEDLY PRESSING AND UN-PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DID NOT NOTHING, NOR WAS THE PEDAL STUCK ON THE FLOOR MAT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND PLACE THE SHIFT LEVER INTO PARK. STARTING THE CAR AGAIN RESULTED IN THE SAME BEHAVIOR: ENGINE RPM SHOT UP EVEN THOUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND OPENED THE HOOD. I IDENTIFIED THE THROTTLE BODY AND NOTICE THAT A PLASTIC CLIP HAD BECOME DISLODGED FROM THE POINT WHERE THE THROTTLE CABLE ENTERS THE THROTTLE BODY. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF REINSERTING AND WIGGLING THE CLIP, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO STAY IN ITS PROPER PLACE, AND THEREAFTER, THE THROTTLE BEHAVED NORMALLY. I DISCOVERED EARLIER YEAR THAT WATER WAS LEAKING INTO THE FLOORBOARD OF MY CAR'S PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT. I NEVER NOTICED IT BEFORE, SINCE I AM ALWAYS THE DRIVER, AND RARELY HAVE PASSENGERS. IN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, I FOUND THAT IT WAS A DESIGN ERROR, AND I HAVE TRIED TO PLUG THE HOLES WHERE WATER IS COMING IN. I STILL HAVE PERIODIC LEAKS. THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A BROKEN PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SUSPENSION SPRING. IT IMMEDIATELY CUT THROUGH AND DEFLATED THE FRONT TIRE. IT IS LUCK THAT THIS HAPPENED AT VERY SLOW SPEED, IF IT HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, LOSS OF CONTROL WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKELY. THE BROKEN COIL SPRING "HOOKED" THE TIRE AND CUT THE TIRE ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALL A FULL 360 DEGREE SEPARATING THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE FROM THE TREAD SURFACE. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MOVE THE VEHICLE IN A DESIRED DIRECTION. IT WAS EASIER TO PARK THE VEHICLE SAFELY BY BACKING UP TO THE CURB. THREE WEEKS LATER WAS BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACE AT WORK ONLY TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION PUMP FAIL. CAR ACTED EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS HERE, SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, HIGH ENGINE REV AND AN INABILITY OF THE CAR TO WORK IN ANY GEAR. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND WAS THEN TOLD THAT NOT ONLY DID THE TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REBUILT BUT I ALSO HAD A REAR COIL SPRING THAT NOW WAS BROKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE COIL SPRING FRACTURED IN HALF. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE COIL SPRING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE. THIS FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED BY A SECOND PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED; HOWEVER, THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I WAS DRIVING EASTBOUND ON I-90 (MASS. PIKE) IN MASSACHUSETTS, ABOUT 60 MILES OUTSIDE OF BOSTON, WITH MY FIANCEE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE IDEAL. TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE HIGH 80S. SUN WAS OUT, ABOUT 4 P.M. IN THE AFTERNOON. SUDDENLY, THE RPMS WENT THROUGH THE ROOF, BUT THE CAR DID NOT SLOW OR SPEED. I TESTED AGAIN AND SAME THING HAPPENED. I SIGNALED RIGHT AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE OVER ONE LANE AND AGAIN ONTO THE SHOULDER. ONCE PARKED, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. I JUST GOT REVVING IN PARK, DRIVE, REVERSE, LOWER GEARS, ETC. TRANSMISSION FAILURE. NO POWER TO THE GROUND. REPAIR COSTS CAME TO $2,000. I WOULD CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY PROBLEM SINCE I WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF MY CAR ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. At times the vehicle accelerates by itself albeit I am not touching the gas pedal. While driving the vehicle at 45 mph, I take my foot off of the accelerator and the vehicle maintains the 45 mph speed or increases speed if I am driving down a hill or any downward gradient regardless of the angle of decent. When I try to stop the vehicle using the foot brake it continues to maintain speed and if I put the shift lever in neutral, while trying to stop, the RPM's increase from approximately 1500 rpm's to 3200 rpm's until the vehicle comes to a complete stop, and then, only after approximately five seconds do the RPM's begin to drop to 1000 rpm's. If I am driving the vehicle with cruise control and cancel the cruise control, the vehicle maintains the cruise control speed indefinitely, literally for miles thereafter. I wanted to give this vehicle to my daughter who has multiple sclerosis but it's too dangerous for her to drive with this acceleration problem. Do you have any recommendations for me???

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK, THE GEAR SHIFTER WILL NOT WORK; SPECIFICALLY THE VEHICLE STAYS "LOCKED" IN THE PARK SETTING. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND REQUIRES ME TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF OR ATTEMPT TO "RE-SET" THE BRAKE BY APPLYING THE BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES. ADDITIONALLY, AT TIMES THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN LIT AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PLACED IN PART AND TURNED OFF WITH THE DRIVER LOCKING THE VEHICLE AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINING LIT HAS CAUSED THE BATTERY TO COMPLETELY DISCHARGE. TO OFFSET THIS I'VE HAD TO REMOVE THE FUSE FOR THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS TO PREVENT THE BATTERY FROM DISCHARGING. I DID HAVE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC EXAMINE THE ISSUE AND THE MECHANIC NOTED THE VEHICLE RECALL FOR A 2003 FORD TAURUS FOR THIS FAULT. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A LOT IDENTIFIED AS IMPACTED BY THE VEHICLE RECALL. SPECIFICALLY THE VIN FROM MY 2003 FORD TAURUS WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 04V106000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THIS FAULT FIRST OCCURRED WHEN I WAS STATIONED IN JAPAN (2004 - 2007) SOMETIME IN MAY OF 2004 WHEN THE BATTERY DISCHARGED TO THE POINT THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY; I COULDN'T JUMP START THE VEHICLE WITH THE ORIGINAL BATTERY STILL IN THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE AT THAT TIME WAS 3,000 MILES. AS OF TODAY (AUGUST 10, 2017) THE MILEAGE ON THE 2003 FORD TAURUS HAS REACHED 104,000. I WAS DEPARTING FROM PARKING LOT AND THE CAR SUDDENLY HAD SOME NOISE IN THE HOOD THEN LOST ALL THE POWER. AFTER STARTING ENGINE AGAIN, I CAN SHIFT THE GEAR INTO D OR R, ENGINE WORKS OK BUT THE CAR WON'T MOVE AT ALL. BEFORE IT HAPPENED, THE TRANSMISSION WORKS FINE, NO DELAYED ENGAGEMENT, NO SLIPS, NO JOLTS, SMOOTH GEAR-CHANGING...THE TRANSMISSION JUST STOPPED WITH NO WARNING SIGNS AT ALL. THE CAR IS REGULARLY AND WELL MAINTAINED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WHEN IT HAPPENED. LATER IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE STRIPPED TORQUE CONVERTER SPLINES. IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG FORD EARLY 2000'S VEHICLES, THE SPLINES ARE ONLY 0.16" THICK BY FORD'S DEFECT DESIGNS, WHICH CAN BE EASILY STRIPPED.

FORD TAURUS 2003 SES, ENGINE 3.0L CAR WAS PURCHASED ON MAY 28, 2011. LEFT SIDE ELECTRICAL ALONG WITH COMPONENTS OF THE TURN SIGNAL SNAP BACK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO USE THIS SAFETY FEATURE MADE FOR VEHICLES. ON 06/15/2011 THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKES OF THE VEHICLE WENT OUT AND REQUIRED THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. DURING THE DRIVE HOME WHICH WAS FROM A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 20 MILES I EXPERIENCED UNCONTROLLABLE STEERING AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE REPLACED BRAKE CALIPER BOLT CAME LOOSE AND WAS LOST ALONG THE HIGHWAY. ON 07/19/2011 AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP THE A/C COMPRESSOR HAD FAILED AGAIN ALONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AS THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING ROUGHLY DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND WAS BLOWING HOT, BRAKES GRINDING, TRANSMISSION FLARE SHIFTING 2-3 SHIFT. REPAIR SHOP STATED SLIPPING AT 30MPH AND STATED REBUILT TRANSMISSION. DURING A WEEK PERIOD AROUND 07/22/2011 THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING AGAIN AND THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE INSTALLED. TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AROUND 30MPH AND AC WAS STILL BLOWING HOT. WENT TO MY MOTHERS FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER. ON THE WAY HOME GOING 55 MILE AN HOUR THE CAR STARED EXCELLING IN SPEED. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND KNEW TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. POWER WINDOWS WILL NOT ROLL UP OR DOWN, MIRRORS DO NOT WORK, INSIDE LIGHTS ARE OUT. FORD REPLACED GEM MODULE A COUPLE OF YEARS BEFORE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM COSTING ME MONEY AT THAT TIME. WHEN THE WINDOWS WOULD NOT ROLL UP OR DOWN, FORD WOULD REPLACE FUSE AND IN A FEW MINUTES THE FUSE WOULD BLOW, AGAIN AND AGAIN THEY DID THIS AND NOW THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN FIXING THE PROBLEMS SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OLDER AND NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY CLAIM FIXING IT WOULD COST MORE THAN THE VEHICLE IS WORTH. APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CAM SENSOR WAS AGAIN REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CAM SENSOR WAS RESET. THE FAILURE HAS NOT RECURRED. APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR LATER WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. UPON EXAMINING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THE COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN AND PIERCED THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS LATER WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR AND WOULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,600.

ON MY WIFE'S 2003 FORD TAURUS, THE FRONT SPRING BROKE AND CAUSED MULTIPLE DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE. FIRST OF ALL THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN OUT DUE TO THE SPRING BREAKING AND SECONDLY, A SWAY LINK WAS DAMAGED TO THE POINT OF REPAIR ALONG WITH ANOTHER PART THAT I NEED TO ASK THE MECHANIC THE NAME OF. THIS SAME MODEL CAR HAD A RECALL IN THE YEARS OF 1999 AND 2001 FOR JUST THIS REASON. THE MECHANIC SEES THIS CONSTANTLY FROM THIS MODEL CAR. THE RECALL WAS FOR A "BOOT" TO BE APPLIED TO THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE SPRING FROM PENETRATING THE TIRE WHILE DRIVING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS DRIVING THE CAR OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND DOWN THE ALLEY, THEREFORE NO ACCIDENT HAPPENED. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY AND THEY SAY THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE FOR THIS AND REFERRED ME TO YOU. THE CAR HAS 43,473 MILES ON IT. OF COURSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THIS IS UNCALLED FOR. I CAN UNDERSTAND THE SPRING BREAKING ON AN AUTOMOBILE, BUT TO COMPLETELY SHRED THE TIRE AND CAUSE ALL OF THIS IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY FOR NOT ADDRESSING A CONCERN THAT HAD OCCURRED ON AN EARLIER MODEL AND CORRECTING IT. DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT AWAY AT ABOUT 55 MPH., THE CAR SUDDENLY PULLED TO THE LEFT. THE DRIVER COULD NOT REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH RESULTED IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ANTI-THEFT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND SHUT OFF. THE DEALER REPLACED A SENSOR AT THE COST OF $400, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AND THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR AGAIN. THE AUTOMATIC CONTROL AND POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULES WERE REPLACED AND A NEW COMPUTER WAS INSTALLED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. DURING THE FINAL TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THEY STATED THAT AN ENGINEER WOULD BE FLOWN IN TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE ENGINEER CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING 2.4 VOLTS WHILE DRIVING, WHICH CAUSED IT TO SHUT OFF. BYPASS WIRES WERE INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET IT TO OPERATE CORRECTLY. SO, I EXPLAINED ALL THE PROBLEMS I?VE HAD WITH THE VEHICLE, WHICH I PURCHASED FROM THEM. AT ABOUT 8000 MILES I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 TAURUS WHEN I NOTICED AN ELECTRICAL SMELL. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE AIR CONDITIONING OFF TO LISTEN TO MY VEHICLE. THE CAR SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS CONTINUALLY TURNING OVER WHILE RUNNING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND REMOVED THE KEYS, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. I PULLED MY BABY FROM THE VEHICLE AND RAN. SMOKE WAS POURING FROM HOOD. THE MECHANIC SAID THE SOLENOID SHORTED INTERNALLY CAUSING STARTER TO ENGAGE. WE HAVE SINCE HAD MANY STARTING PROBLEMS. RIGHT NOW MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP FOR THE 11TH DAY IN ROW.THEY ARE ON THE SIXTH ATTEMPT TO FIX THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WILL CRANK, BUT NOT START. THE SECOND TRY IT WILL THEN SPUTTER AND START. THEY HAVE EVEN REPLACED THE COMPUTER AND THAT DID NOT FIX IT. ALSO THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 22,500 MILES DUE TO VIGOROUS SHAKING. THE WHOLE CAR WOULD START TO VIBRATE AT ABOUT 40 MPH. AT 75 ON THE INTERSTATE THE FRONT OF THE CAR WOULD SHAKE FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS THEN QUIT FOR 30 SECONDS. THIS ROUTINE CONTINUED THROUGH OUT THE TRIP. *JB

2003 FORD TAURUS HAS PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION, ENGINE BACKFIRING, HOOD LATCH IS BROKEN, AND SEAT BRACKET FELL OFF. *MR THE TIRES WERE CONTINUOUSLY GOING FLAT. SIX FLATS OCCURRED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS ON A TRIP, THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND WOULD JERK IN TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE WOULD BACK FIRE INTERMITTENTLY AND STALLED ON ONE OCCASION, THE SEAT BRACKET WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER BUT FAILED AGAIN (THE SEAT BRACKET WAS INCORRECTLY INSTALLED FROM THE START), THE ENGINE ALSO DISPLAYED KNOCKING AND HAD TAKEN ABOUT 9 VISITS BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A VALVE WAS STICKING OUT. THE A/C DID NOT COOL, THE CONSUMER SMELLED COOLANT WHICH LEAKED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE TIRES AND RIMS WERE A PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS ABOUT 18 VISITS/TWO REAR TIRES REMAINED A PROBLEM DUE TO SEVERE INFLATION PROBLEMS AND THE TIRES WOULD NEED TO BE INFLATED SEVERAL TIMES DAILY. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED ANOTHER VEHICLE. *SC THE GAS MILEAGE WAS POOR. TIRE LOOSING AIR PRESSURE FROM THE TIME OF PURCHASE. *TC THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 2-25-06 AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. UPDATED 03/29/06. *JB
