WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND TRYING TO PULL INTO AN ALLEY THAT LEADS THE MAIN ROAD; MY VEHICLES RPM WENT FROM JUST ABOVE IDLE TO ALMOST 4000. IT CAUSED ME TO FLY THROUGH A STOP SIGN, AS MY BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. AFTER SOME TUGGING I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND GET IT TO A FULL STOP. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, THEN BACK ON AGAIN, WHILE IN PARK THE RPMS WERE GRADUALLY INCREASING. I STEPPED ON THE GAS WHILE IN PARK, AND IT CORRECTED THE ISSUE. SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE GOING FIFTY FIVE MPH DOWN A COUNTY ROAD. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THE RPMS CONTINUED INCREASING AGAIN. I GOT TO ALMOST SEVENTY MPH. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AGAIN . I CAME TO A FULL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. IT STARTED BACK UP WITHOUT INCIDENT. I WILL BE HAVING THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT FIRST THING MONDAY.

TAKATA RECALL - WHILE DRIVING TAURUS ACCELERATES WITHOUT TOUCHING FUEL PEDAL. ALSO RETAINS SPEED FOR A WHILE AFTER RELEASING FUEL PEDAL. FUEL PEDAL DOES NOT SEEM TO BE STUCK AS WHEN I TAP FUEL PEDAL CAR DOES DOT SLOW DOWN UNTIL I APPLY BRAKE. WHEN FIRST STARTING IN MORNING ENGINE REVS TO 3,000 RPMS AND FALLS GRADUALLY.TAURUS HAS 139,600 MILES.

MY 2004 FORD TAURUS SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN WITH FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. DRIVING IN CITY STREET AT 30 MPH, THE CAR ALL BY ITSELF SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE (WITH MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL) AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 75 MPH. AFTER BRAKING AND PARKING CAR, I TURNED CAR OFF AND NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE ACCELERATOR / THROTTLE CABLES IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED . APPARENTLY IT IS A A BLACK PLASTIC CLIP THAT WAS WEARING OUT AND SLIPPING OFF THE THROTTLE LINKAGE. THE CABLE THEN CAN GET STUCK OR TANGLED CAUSING STUCK ACCELERATION. I CALLED FORD ON JUNE 7, 2018 AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HEAR OF THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THERE WAS NOT ANY RECALLS ATTACHED TO MY VIN. CASE # CAS-14980128. I MENTIONED TO THEM THAT I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY HAVE RECALLED OVER 400,000 FORD TAURUS AND SABLE MODELS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. SINCE MY CAR DID NOT COME UP AS BEING RECALLED, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, OTHER FORD MODELS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH POORLY DESIGNED THROTTLE CABLES.

THROTTLE STUCK OPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AT 40 MPH. THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN WITH THE FOOT OFF OF THE GAS, SLOWLY INCREASED SPEED INSTEAD. THE CRUISE CONTROL LINKAGE BECAME DETACHED AND GOT STUCK IN THE THROTTLE. HAD TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING. THE CAR REVVED OTHER 4000 WHILE IDLING.

THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO GAIN SPEED WITHOUT THE FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, REGARDLESS IF WE ARE ON FLAT GROUND OR MOVING UP A SMALL HILL. IF I TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE THE CAR GAINS SPEED IMMEDIATELY AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH MY CAR. THE ONLY WAY IT DOES NOT CONTINUE TO GAIN SPEED IS BY PUTTING THE CAR INTO NUETRAL, BRAKING AND TURNING IT OFF. I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH OTHER FORD TAURUS'S CLOSE IN THE SAME YEARS PROXIMITY. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND I NOW HAVE MY VEHICLE PARKED FOR SAFETY REASONS.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DOING AROUND 70 AND, ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE RPM'S REVVED UP REALLY HIGH (INTO THE 7000'S) AND THE CAR INDICATOR SAID CHECK TRANSMISSION. I QUICKLY CHANGED LANES AND GOT ONTO THE SHOULDER AND SHUT OFF MY CAR. I LET IT SIT FOR TEN MINUTES WHILE I CHECKED FOR VISIBLE PROBLEMS. FINDING NONE, I THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND PUT IT IN GEAR AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE. I TRIED IT IN EVERY GEAR BUT THE CAR STILL REFUSED TO MOVE. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC THAT SAID THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS BAD. MY REGULAR MECHANIC AND I HAD DONE SOME RESEARCH OVER THE PHONE WHILE WE WERE WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE MECHANIC AND FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE FAULT OF A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER. FORD ACTUALLY HAS A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT BAD TORQUE CONVERTERS AND DID A RECALL FOR THEIR 2004 FREESTAR WHICH I HAD HEARD USES THE SAME TORQUE CONVERTER AS THE TAURUS. AFTER RESEARCHING, I DECIDED TO TAKE MY CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP INSTEAD AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS INDEED BAD. THE SPLINES HAD STRIPPED OUT AND/OR BROKE. IT COST $1400.00 TO REPLACE IT FOR A CAR THAT HAD A LITTLE OVER 57000 MILES. DURING MY RESEARCH I CAME ACROSS OTHERS WHO HAD EVEN LESS MILEAGE ON THEIR TAURUS'S WHEN THEIR TORQUE CONVERTERS DIED.

I RAN BY A FRIENDS HOUSE TO PICK UP AN ITEM. AFTER PUTTING MY GEAR SELECTOR IN REVERSE I REALIZED THAT I NOT ONLY COULDN'T BACK UP, BUT COULD NOT GET ANY GEAR TO ENGAGE! MY TRANSMISSION HAD COMPLETELY FAILED WITH ABSOLUTELY ZERO INDICATION THAT IT WAS ABOUT TO DIE.

I ALWAYS PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPT TO COAST TO A SAFE PARKING LOCATION. I AM ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES IMMEDIATELY, SOMETIMES AFTER PROLONGED PERIODS. SO FAR, THE STALL PROBLEM HAS NEVER OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT REST. SOMETIMES THE DOOR LOCKS WILL BRIEFLY "CHATTER" AS THE SOLENOIDS MYSTERIOUSLY ACTIVATE. THIS CAN OCCUR WHILE DRIVING OR IDLING. THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED IN JUNE 2015. THEN RECURRED RANDOMLY ONCE EVERY 2-3 WEEKS. RECENTLY, THE PROBLEM OCCURS 2-3 TIMES IN A DAY. I SPOKE WITH [XXX], WHO HANDLES THE PAYMENTS THREE MONTHS AGO IN REGARDS TO THE BALANCE I OWE. ACCORDING TO HER, I HAD EITHER THIS LAST PAYMENT IN DECEMBER OR I MAY HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT DUE IN JANUARY THEN I'D BE ABLE TO RECEIVE MY TITLE. I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT ON MARCH 17, 2014 IN THE LATE EVENING. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS OR THE BRAKE AS I WAS TRYING TO LET MY CAR SLOW ITSELF DOWN WHEN I REALIZED MY CAR WAS NOT SLOWING; IT WAS SPEEDING UP. I LOOKED AT MY SPEEDOMETER AND I WAS CRUISING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AT 45 MPH. I THEN APPLIED THE BRAKES AND REALIZED THE RPM'S WERE STAYING ABOVE 2,500. AT THIS POINT I STARTED TO PANIC A LITTLE SINCE I FELT LIKE I WAS FIGHTING MY CAR AS IT WANTED TO ACCELERATE AND AS I WAS GETTING CLOSER TO LOTS OF PARKED CARS AND A BUILDING WHICH SCREAMED ACCIDENT. I DROVE IT AROUND THE PARKING LOT WITH THE BRAKES ON HARD AND I DECIDED TO PARK IT FAR AWAY FROM OTHER CARS. ONCE IN PARK THE CAR REVVED UP TO OVER 3,000 RPMS. AFTER IT DID THIS I DECIDED TO SHUT IT OFF. THINKING THAT MAYBE IT WOULD RESET ITSELF I TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT REVVED UP ONCE AGAIN PAST 3,000 RPMS. I DECIDED I SHOULDN'T DRIVE IT ANYMORE. THE NEXT DAY, MARCH 18TH, I HAD MY CAR TOWED AND TAKEN TO AN AUTO SHOP, WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE THAT BECAME DETACHED. THEY REATTACHED IT WHICH HOPEFULLY FIXES THE PROBLEM. WHEN I RETURNED HOME, I FOUND ONLINE THAT I WAS NOT ALONE OTHER TAURUSES WERE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THAT A RECALL COULD BE POSSIBLE. I SEARCHED ON FORD'S WEBSITE AND NOTHING ON MY CAR HAD BEEN RECALLED. I AM SENDING A LETTER TO FORD TO SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS ISSUE. FAULTY GEM OR SMART JUNCTION BOX CAUSING ALL DOOR LOCKS AND TRUNK LID TO NOT PROPERLY WORK.ON OCCASION THE TRUNK WILL OPEN BY ITS SELF WHILE DRIVING. I CANNOT LOCK THE DOORS AND THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING AND AFTER THE CAR IS SHUT OFF. THIS HAS DRAINED MY BATTERY. DRIVING AT NIGHT IS VERY DISTRACTING WITH DOME LIGHT ON. I CANNOT TURN IT OFF AND WHEN I TOUCH THE COVER OF THE DOME LIGHT IT FEELS VERY HOT. I CANNOT TELL WHAT THE MILEAGE IS BECAUSE DASH FLASHES ALL DOORS AND TRUNK IS AJAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID A SCAN AND FOLLOWED SOME TYPE OF FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AND FOUND THE CARS SMART JUNCTION BOX OR GEM MODULE WAS THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD IT CANNOT BE FIXED BECAUSE THE PART IS DISCONTINUED, OBSOLETE AND NOT MADE ANY MORE AND NO AFTERMARKET PART EXISTS. I INQUIRED ABOUT A PART POSSIBLY FROM ANOTHER CAR OF THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL. I WAS TOLD THAT WOULD NOT WORK BECAUSE THE SPECIFIC PART IN QUESTION WAS PROGRAMMED FOR MY CAR AND ITS COMPUTER. I TELEPHONED ANOTHER FORD DEALER AND SPOKE TO THE PARTS DEPT. I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I WAS TOLD BY BOTH DEALERS THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM OTHER THAN PULLING THE INTERIOR BULB OUT. THIS BY FAR DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP. THE FOLLOWING THURSDAY THE CAR BEGAN TO ACT AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO CUT OUT AND THE ABS AND BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS FLASHED AND SOUNDED. THE LIGHTS AND A/C WERE TYPICALLY SURGING. CAR WAS INSPECTED THAT FRIDAY BY DEALERS MECHANIC OF CHOICE. HE PUT THE COMPUTER TO THE CAR AND IT READ ALL 6 STATOR COILS WERE BAD. HE RESET THE COMPUTER AND DROVE IT TRYING TO GET THE CAR TO ACT UP AGAIN AND IT DID NOT. TODAY, SATURDAY 14 JUN 2008, THE CAR DID IT AGAIN AND THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. MY FORD TAURUS SHUT-OFF BLOWING HEAT THROUGH THE FAN AND ESSENTIALLY, I DO NOT HAVE ANY HEAT IN THE CAR. I TOOK TO A DEALER AND THEY MENTIONED THAT WATER LEAKED THROUGH COWL PANEL CAUSING FAILURE OF THE BLOWER MOTOR AND / OR RESISTOR. I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THAT COWL IS NOT EVEN A PART AND THEREFORE IS NOT COVERED AND SINCE WATER LEAK CAUSED THE BLOWER MOTOR TO FAIL, THAT PART ALSO IS NOT COVERED. I HAVE LOOKED THROUGH THE TSB'S THAT FORD PUBLISHED, THAT SAID THAT THIS DEFECT IS COVERED IN BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. THIS TELLS ME THAT FORD ACKNOWLEDGERS THAT THEIR IS PROBLEM WITH THE BODY PARTS OF THE CARS, BUT IS NOT AGREEING TO REPAIR WITHOUT COST. MARY'S HOSPITAL IN TUCSON, AZ AT APPROXIMATELY 5 PM ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 29, 2005. SHE WAS SOUTHBOUND ON INTERSTATE 19, PROCEEDING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, IN HER 2004 FORD TAURUS LX VIN [XXX], WITH 2500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE WEATHER WAS MILD, HIGH 60'S, THE ROAD SMOOTH AND CLEAR. APPROXIMATELY 16 MILES INTO HER TRIP SHE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN AND CATACLYSMIC TIRE FAILURE ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE, A CONTINENTAL TOURINGCONTACT AS P215-60R16 94T. SHE QUICKLY DECELERATED AND CAME TO A STOP ON THE RIGHT BERM OF THE INTERSTATE. I SAW THE TIRE IN HER TRUNK AND IT LOOKED "NORMAL". MUCH OF THE TIRE WALL APPEARED "MISSING". HER TRUNK WAS FULL OF FRIABLE BLACK CHUNKS AND POWDER FROM THE TIRE INNER SIDE WALL. I HAVE A SAMPLE. THE INNER TIRE WALL BEAD WAS STILL SEALED AGAINST THE WHEEL RIM, NO SEPARATION. THE DRIVER SIDE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR DETACHED/CAME OFF THE REAR WINDOW; THE CONNECTOR PLASTIC HOUSING WAS COMPLETELY MELTED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2004 FORD TAURUS. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CRASH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES; HOWEVER, THEY FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SIDESWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BEFORE CRASHING INTO AN EMBANKMENT AND TREE STUMPS. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME A COUPLE OF TIMES ALREADY. I WAS DRIVING BEHIND MY BOYFRIEND WE WHERE HEADED TO HIS HOUSE, AND MY CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AT A FAST UNUSUAL PACE. HE STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AT A STOP LIGHT, AND AS I WAS PRESSING ON MY BRAKES THERE WAS A COUPLE OF LOUD CLUNKS COMING FROM INSIDE MY ENGINE. DRIVING DOWN A SIDE STREET GOING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. THE VEHICLE STARTED RACING AND SPEEDING UP. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND COULD FEEL THE JERKING OF THE CAR FIGHTING TO SPEED UP. I PULLED OVER AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WHICH CAUSED THE RPM METER TO RACE. I PUSHED HARD ON THE HARD ACCELERATOR AND LET OFF AND THAT STOPPED THE RPM'S FROM RACING. THE CONTACT THEN DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND THE FAILURE HAD NOT RECURRED SINCE. THE TRANSMISSION LEAK CONTINUED DESPITE NUMEROUS REPAIRS PERFORMED BY THE CONTACT AND AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,311. UPDATED 04/13/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DECELERATE NORMALLY. THERE WAS A HIGHER THAN NORMAL ENGINE RPM AND HE HAD TO USE HEAVIER THAN NORMAL BRAKING TO BOTH SLOW AND STOP THE VEHICLE. JUST PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT A SAFE PARKING AREA, THE IDLE RETURNED TO NORMAL. AFTER A BRIEF STOP, THE CONSUMER WENT BACK HOME. INITIALLY, THE IDLE WAS NORMAL, BUT THEN THE HIGH IDLE RETURNED. THE VEHICLE WA TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY, WHERE HE NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK SHAFT AND DIPSTICK WAS EXTENDED ABOUT 3-4 INCHES ONTO THE GROUND. ALL FLUIDS APPEARED NORMAL AFTER INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE IAC AND RETURNED TO THE MECHANIC TO VERIFY PROPER INSTALLATION. THE CONSUMER THEN DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FROM THE THROTTLE BODY AS THE HIGH IDLE PERSISTED. EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN EVEN WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE. WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, AND MAP SENSOR BUT IT FAILED TO REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, EXHAUST FUMES BEGAN TO EMIT INTO THE VEHICLE AND SMOKE STARTED TO EMIT FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD HAD A HOLE ON THE SIDE CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

OVER THE PAST THREE WEEKS, THE ENGINE WOULD QUIT RUNNING WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP ON 9/16/13 AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FOUND. THE PROBLEM IS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CAN COME A LOOSE FROM THE THROTTLE BODY WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. WHEN THE DRIVER RELEASES THE ACCELERATOR, IF THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAS COME LOOSE, THE FITTING AT THE END OF IT CAN GET JAMMED IN THE CAM THAT ROTATES THE THROTTLE PLATE, AND IT WON ALLOW THE THROTTLE TO CLOSE, CAUSING THE ENGINE RPM TO STAY HIGH. THIS CAN HAPPEN RANDOMLY. IT MAY HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, AND IT CAN BE DUPLICATED WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK. SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS CONCERN. WHEN IT GETS COLD OUTSIDE, THE DOOR LATCH BECOMES STUCK AND THE DOOR WILL NOT LATCH AND CLOSE PROPERLY AND THE DOOR FLIES OPEN. THE PASSENGER DOOR LATCH WILL DO THE SAME THING. COMING DOWN POWAY ROAD IN POWAY, CA IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP AND IT SEEMED THE ENGINE WAS REVVING. I PULLED OVER TO A SAFE TURNOUT AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP COMPLETELY AS THE BRAKES WERE SPONGY. WHEN I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, THE ENGINE SPEED WAS OVER 2500 RPM. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND COULD SMELL THE BRAKES. SUSPECTING A STUCK THROTTLE, I REMOVED THE PROTECTIVE COVER AND THE ACCELERATOR WAS BEING HELD OPEN BY THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WHICH HAD BECOME DISCONNECTED AT THE THROTTLE LINKAGE AREA. I REMOVED THE ASSEMBLY AND PUSHED IT ASIDE SO WE COULD CONTINUE DRIVING. I CONSIDER THIS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN A GRADE AND I WAS TRYING TO APPLY THE BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME THE ENGINE WAS PUSHING US FASTER. SINCE IT WAS SATURDAY I DRIVE TO THE DEALER. I KNEW THERE HAD BEEN A SIMILAR RECALL I CHECKED TO SEE IF OUR VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED AND IT WAS NOT BUT THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE RECALL WHICH FORD HAD DONE AS "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13B04" WHICH HE PROVIDED ME A COPY OF. I HAVE SEEN THIS IN MY SON'S 2002 FORD TAURUS ALSO. THE CLIP THAT HOLDS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE TO THE THROTTLE LINKAGE DISCONNECTS AND BECAUSE OF THE STIFFNESS, ACTUALLY PREVENTS THE ACCELERATOR LINKAGE FROM RETURNING TO IDLE. ALTHOUGH IT HAS NOT FAILED, I CAN SEE THE SAME LINKAGE ON MY 2003 MERCURY SABLE WHICH OF COURSE IS A REPACKAGED TAURUS. THIS CLIP IS A VERY POOR DESIGN IN THAT IT DOES NOT DO A GOOD JOB OF HOLDING ONTO THE ACCELERATOR PIN. FROM OBSERVATION I KNOW THAT IT WAS USED IN AT LEAST 3 MODEL YEARS AND PERHAPS MORE. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE THAN A COURTESY FIX AS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AS THE LAST FEW YEARS HAVE SHOWN. IT SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ANY VEHICLE THAT USED THIS DESIGN. I PUT THE CAR INTO NUETRAL AND THE ENGINE ON ITS OWN VOLITION REVVED UP TO OVER 4000 RPM. A PERSON ON THE SIDE WALK THOUGHT I WAS ABOUT TO STRIKE THEM AS THEY JUMP OUT OF THE WAY. I LEARNED 150 FAULTY SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM COMPLAINTS, 6 INJURIES, AND 1 DEATH. THIS PROBLEM IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THE NHTSA HAS KNOWN SINCE 2004, PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INJURED AS A RESULT AND EVEN DEATH REPORTED BUT STRANGELY NO SAFETY RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE AND TRAGIC PROBLEM, WHICH IS ANOTHER REASON I AM FILING THE DUAL COMPLAINT IN THE HOPES THAT ATTORNEY GENERAL MORRISEY. I OWN A 2004 FORD TAURUS SEL STATION WAGON. THE PASSENGER FLOOR HAS RUSTED THROUGH. IT APPEARS THAT THE OVER TIME WATER HAS LEAKED IN THROUGH A FITTING WHERE CLIMATE CONTROL PIPES ENTER THROUGH THE FIREWALL. THE SUSPENSION MOUNT ON THE PASSENGER ALSO HAS A LOT OF RUST AND WILL PROBABLY FAIL IN THE NEXT YEAR OR SO. THIS SUSPENSION MOUNT IN THE SAME AREA WHERE THE WATER HAD BEEN SITTING DUE TO THE FIREWALL LEAKAGE. I LOOKED FOR ANY RECALLS FOR 2004 AND COULD NOT FIND ANY. I DID SEE A SIMILAR RECALL FOR OLDER TAURUS' FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN KEPT IN A GARGAGE, SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED. MY SON AND WIFE WERE IN THE VEHICLE WHEN IT ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL. MY SON HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE CAR BELOW 30 MPH. HE NOTICED THE TACHOMETER WAS RACING 3,000 RPM EVEN THOUGH HE WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE HARD. HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER INTO A CONVENIENCE STORE AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME THIS HAPPENED ALTHOUGH I OFTEN FELT THE CAR WAS GOING TOO FAST (@ 20MPH) WHEN STARTING UP WITH NO FOOT PRESSURE ON ACCELERATOR. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER AND REPAIRED 2 DAYS LATER. MECHANIC SAID THE 'AIR INTAKE VALVE' WAS DIRTY (CARBON DEPOSITS) AND REPLACED. HE ALSO NOTED CAR WAS REPROGRAMMED BY THE COMPUTER. MY FAMILY AND I WERE GIVEN A DEFECTIVE CHILD CAR SEAT WHEN WE RENTED WITH BUDGET RENT A CAR. THEY HAVE STICKERS ON THE INSIDE WINDSHIELD THAT MENTIONS THAT ALL CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF FIVE MUST BE SEATED IN CAR SEATS. THE CAR SEAT WAS DEFECTIVE AND WE WERE NOT OFFERED ANOTHER ONE, THUS PUTTING OUR ONE YEAR OLD CHILD IN A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE SENT THREE CERTIFIED LETTERS TO BUDGET, BUT NO RESPONSE. I BOUGHT A 2004 FORD TAURUS SE BRAND NEW. AFTER ABOUT TWO WEEKS I STARTED TO GET VIBRATION FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BETWEEN 42-45 MILES PH. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND A MFG WARNING CAME ON FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE DIRECTIVE WAS FOLLOWED BY THE DEALER SO I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS OVER. WITHIN TWO DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM GOT MORE SEVERE AND IN ADDITION TO THE VIBRATING GAS PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE. I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AND BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT THE DEALER AND AFTER WAITING TWO HOURS FOR MY CAR THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS UNDER RESEARCH TO FIND A PERMANENT FIX FOR BOTH PROBLEMS. I TOLD THE DEALER THE THIS IS A 2004 FORD TAURUS WITH 2,900 MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEM WAS GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY AND THAT I WANTED MY CAR FIXED FOR FEAR THAT SOMETHING WORSE WOULD HAPPEN. THE DEALER AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND TOTALLY IGNORED MY SAFETY IN THIS CAR. FORD MOTOR COMPANY FURTHER SAID CHECK BACK IN ABOUT 6 MONTHS MAYBE WE MIGHT HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEMS. IN THE MEANTIME THEY COULD CARE LESS IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO ME IN THEIR CAR KNOWING I HAD PROGRESSIVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AND THAT I WAS TOTALLY UNSATISFIED. I EVEN SUGGESTED THAT THEY KEEP THE CAR UNTIL IT WAS FIXED AND LEND ME A LOANER CAR UNTIL THE CAR WAS SAFE, AGAIN THEY REFUSED. I PURCHASED A NEW 2004 TAURUS WAGON WITH ABS AND OPTIONAL TRACTION CONTROL IN MARCH,2004. I HAVE HAD THREE INSTANCES WHEREIN AT LOW SPEED (5-10 MPH) AND ON EITHER WET ROAD , GRAVEL OR OTHER ROUGH SURFACE, AND ON ATTEMPT TO BRAKE, I HAVE EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE AND/OR THE ENGINE SIMULTANEOUSLY ACCELERATES. I HAVE HAD TO PLACE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO OVERCOME THE FORWARD SURGE. ON ONE OCCASION I FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. I HAD PRESENTED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IN APRIL, 2004. AT THAT TIME THE DEALER (SMITH CAIRNS FORD,YONKERS,NY) CLAIMED THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE UNEVEN. SUBSEQUENT TO THAT REPAIR, I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM ONLY THIS TIME THE "ABS"AND TRACTION CONTROL" WARNING INDICATORS ACTIVATED. THE DEALER REPLACED LEFT FRONT WHEEL TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR. MY 2003 FORD TAURUS SE; HAS HAD A ROUGH IDLE AND ROUGH RUNNING WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AND WHEN STOPPED. THE ENGINE WILL ACT LIKE IT IS RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, SOME TIMES IT WILL JUST SHUTDOWN WITH NO WARNING. USUALLY HAPPENS UNDER 40 MPH.*AK VEHICLE IS MAINTAINED BY A FORD DEALER, AND HAS ALL FILTERS CHANGED BEFORE THE SCHEDULED TIME. ALSO HAS HAD TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED TWICE IN 60,000 MILES ALONG WITH COOLANT CHANGE AS DIRECTED BY FORD. DEALER SAYS THAT ROUGH IDLE AND HESITATION IS NORMAL FOR THIS V6 ENGINE. BUT I SEE THAT OTHER FORD AND MAZDA VEHICLES USING THIS ENGINE ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEM.
