For a while now I have noticed that intermittently when barely stepping on the accelerator pedal, the car will accelerate but continue to speed up even with my foot off of the accelerator. I have to step on the break extremely hard to come to a stop, and car will still be doing around 40mph when at a complete stop or light. The check engine light has been on, and I have taken it to a mechanic twice, one of the times he had it for a month trying to figure out what that light is about, checking everything possible, but I am not sure if that light has anything to do with the accelerator.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently from 45 mph to 65 mph. The contact stated the accelerator pedal was not being depressed during the failure. The brake pedal was depressed to slow the vehicle to a stop. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected under the hood. The contact noticed that the cruise control cable was jammed up into the accelerator cable which caused the accelerator cable to open. The contact moved the cruise control cable back into the correct position and drove back to their residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.

2 TIMES SINCE SEPT. 2018 THE CABLE UNDER HOOD TO ACCELERATOR CAME OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH. THE MOST RECENT I WAS DRIVING IN A SUBDIVISION AT 10 MPH.THE RPM'S INCREASED DRASTICALLY. I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS ISSUE AND FORD NEEDS TO FIX IT. I GOT THIS FROM MY ELDERLY MOTHER AND I AM JUST THANKFUL IT DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING.

UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION AND CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING THE SAME DAY. ENGINE ACCELERATES WITH RPM CLIMBING WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE GAS PEDAL. THE FIX FOR ME IS TO PUT INTO NEUTRAL AND TAP THE GAS PEDAL WHICH GETS THE ENGINE TO BRING THE RPM'S BACK DOWN. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING AND IN GEAR USUALLY AT LESS THAN 50 MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERYDAY FOR A FEW WEEKS. GOING TO BRING IT IN TO BE REPAIRED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP.

MY 2005 FORD TAURUS HAS A STRIPPED TORQUE CONVERTER SPLINE AFTER I INSPECTED IT CLOSELY. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF THIS VEHICLE. IT IS ALSO COMMON IN OTHER SIMILAR FORD MODELS. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE TORQUE CONVERTER SPLINE CAN STRIP OUT WITHOUT WARNING, LEAVING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY POWER TO THE DRIVE WHEELS. THIS CAN BE ESPECIALLY HAZARD IN AN INTERSECTION WHEN A LIGHT TURNS RED, ON AT HIGH SPEED ON A HIGHWAY, WHICH WOULD RISK A HIGH-SPEED REAR END COLLISION. FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS COMMON DEFECT. THERE ARE MANY INSTANCES OF THIS SAME FAILURE ON THE INTERNET BY OTHER OWNERS.THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER TO THE WHEELS AS I WAS IN AN INTERSECTION MAKING A LEFT TURN AT LOW SPEED ON A CITY STREET. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE. VERY LUCKILY, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP CLEAR OF TRAFFIC. HOWEVER, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT.

TAKATA RECALL TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND THEN IT JUST WENT OUT. SO HAD IT FIXED AND IT COST ME OVER $ 2500. NOW A YEAR TO DATE 07/ 08/2017 IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND CAN NOT AFFORD IT AGAIN. OH OF COURSE WHEN YOU TAKE IT IN IT WON'T DO IT. IT HAPPENS WHEN MOVING IN THE CITY BETWEEN LIKE 1ST AND 2ND. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME.

UPON RETURNING TO THE TAURUS IN A PARKING LOT, THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE. THE GEAR SHIFT MOVED AS FREELY AS IT NORMALLY DOES, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO EITHER REVERSE OR DRIVE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED ACROSS TOWN. OUR MECHANIC TOLD ME TODAY THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS STRIPPED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THAT METAL PARTICLES FROM THE STRIPPED OUT PIECES HAD TO BE CLEANED OUT. TOTAL COST WILL BE ABOUT $1800. MECHANIC SAID THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH TAURUSES AND WINDSTARS OF THAT TIME, AND A LOOK AT THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS PAGE CONFIRMS IT. DISAPPOINTING THAT FORD WILL NOT RECALL FOR WHAT IS OBVIOUSLY A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. MY INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 88K MILES.

WHILE IN PARK, RPMS SURGE AT 2000 UNTIL SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH 3 TIMES TODAY OUT OF THE BLUE, ONCE WHILE AT A RED LIGHT WITH FOOT ON BRAKES THE RPMS RAN UP TO 3000 AND TRIED TO DRIVE THROUGH THE BRAKES, AND TWICE WHILE ON CITY STREETS IT ACCELERATED FROM 20 TO 50 IN SECONDS, CAUSING ME TO NEARLY MISS A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. WHY MY MODEL VIN ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL I DON'T KNOW, BECAUSE LOOKING AT EVERYTHING ONLINE REGARDING THE 05 TAURUS MY CAR HAS ALL THE SAME ISSUES, WHICH WEREN'T DISCLOSED TO ME UPON PURCHASE BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD NO IDEA. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY ACCELERATED AS THE RPMS INCREASED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE OUT OF TRAFFIC, STOP THE VEHICLE, AND SHIFT INTO PARK; HOWEVER, THE RPMS WERE STILL HIGH. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE RPMS REMAINED HIGH. THE CONTACT REPEATED THE STEPS THREE TIMES BEFORE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHILE SLIGHTLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FAILURE THAT WAS CAUSING THE THROTTLE TO STAY OPEN AND INADVERTENTLY ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN, BUT THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INFORMED HER THAT HE PLACED AN UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE ON THE CABLE TO KEEP IT IN PLACE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 168,000.

ACCELERATOR WOULD STICK AT A HIGH RPM WHEN STATIONARY AS WELL AS IN MOTION. THIS WOULD OCCUR ERRATICALLY. THE IDOL CONTROL VALVE WAS REPLACED TWICE BEFORE THE MECHANIC NOTICED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS NOT CONNECTED. THE CABLE WAS REMOVED AND NOT REPLACED. THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE WAS REPLACED A THIRD TIME WITH A MOTORCRAFT PART.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,000.

AS I TRIED TO SLOW FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I MANAGED TO BRING IT TO A STOP WITH THE BRAKE, BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AND I COULD BARELY KEEP IT FROM LURCHING FORWARD. I TAPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ENGINE WENT BACK TO NORMAL. AT THE NEXT LIGHT, IT DID IT AGAIN. THIS TIME I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THE ENGINE REVVED TO 4000 RPM. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, BUT WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, THE ENGINE WAS STILL AT 4000 RPM. I TAPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR A COUPLE OF TIMES AND IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN.

THE FIRST INCIDENT MY BROTHER WAS ALONE AND DRIVING THE CAR. HE ACCELERATED AFTER STOPPING FOR A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. WITHIN ABOUT 50 YARDS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 4000 RPM. HE PULLED OFF TO A TURNING LANE AND HAD TO HOLD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. FINALLY HE PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE ENGINE DID NOT SLOW DOWN UNTIL HE PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE. SINCE THEN THE ACCELERATOR HAS TAKEN CONTROL THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AT ABOUT 40 MPH. MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS ON 4/18/2012, MILEAGE 36140. WE WERE RIDING HOME FROM CHURCH. MY BROTHER PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO ABOUT 45 MPH FROM A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4000 RPM AGAIN. On December 10, 2020 I acquired tis particular automobile. In the calendar year following, I have been advised of and experience "sudden acceleration" and other anomalies . I have found further oil pan plug bolt, and today 02/10/2022 the Complaint of other owners. Particularly airbag sudden inflation and brake shift Interlock and no airbag operation. This is presumed to be a collision sensor relationship. I am in the process of restoration and replacement of the affected components. I have difficulty in data and trouble shoot information on the website and brand dealership. (Napa, Adv.auto parts, auto zone, orielly, salvage yards. I have spent $163.50 at Ford dealer charged me. I spent $269.70 at the American automobile association. No repairs have taken place by these people who have been advised that the manufacturer of the vehicle is alerts for further information and details of the job description and replacement parts for airbags components and sensors and clockspring set. I have been advised to contact the seller and demand replacement at no cost to me. To top it all off, Mercury and Ford plants keep duping each other and me for more money on a known defective product and vehicle.A Holdover surplus of one brand to another brand. These being as 2004 Mercury Sable airbag module and 2005 Ford Taurus airbags components and sensors and clockspring and sudden acceleration by cruise control modules and defects. Help please. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL FORWARD MOTION WHILE IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 70 MPH, ENGINE RUNNING AND TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE. THE CAUSE IS A STRIPPED OUT TORQUE CONVERTER INPUT SPLINE. THE TRANSMISSION PUMP DRIVE ROD IS TOO WEAK AND THE GEAR TEETH TOO FINE THAT THE TEETH ON IT GET STRIPPED INSIDE THE CONVERTER QUITE EASILY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THIS CAUSES LOSS OF TRANSMISSION PUMP PRESSURE AND RESULTANT LOSS OF FORWARD PROPULSION. IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, THIS COULD RESULT IN A FATAL ACCIDENT, PARTICULARLY FROM THE REAR AND IF AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW BECAUSE THE TEETH ON THE TORQUE CONVERTER INPUT SHAFT (WHICH POWERS THE TRANSMISSION PUMP), ARE PRONE TO STRIP. IF THE TRANSMISSION PUMP IS NOT BEING DRIVEN (WHICH WILL HAPPEN IF THE INPUT SHAFT STRIPS INSIDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHILE BEING DRIVEN), THE TRANSMISSION WILL LOSE ALL ABILITY TO PROPEL THE VEHICLE. THERE ARE COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET OF OWNERS OF FORD TAURUS'S WITH THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. WHAT IS ODD IS THAT FORD DID ISSUE A RECALL ON SOME FORD FREESTAR MINIVANS WITH THE VERY SAME TRANSMISSION AND DESIGN FLAW, BUT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE FORD TAURUS'S WITH VERY SAME TRANSMISSION AND DESIGN FLAW. I WAS LEFT UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OR EVEN MAINTAIN MY SPEED; AND I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP ON AN EXIT RAMP AS THE PORTION OF HIGHWAY THAT I WAS ON DID NOT HAVE SHOULDERS ON EITHER SIDE. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME WAS JUST AS ILL-PREPARED FOR THIS SUDDEN DECELERATION, AND I WAS POWERLESS TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN STEER TO RELATIVE SAFETY. IT APPEARS THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER'S SPLINES ARE NOT PROPERLY DESIGNED AND THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THIS SPECIFIC MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. THE CAR DID NOT STALL, BUT I SLOWLY STARTED DECELERATING THE CAR. FIVE SECONDS LATER, THE SYSTEM SUDDENLY RESTARTED LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND THEY STATED THAT IF THEY CAN'T REPRODUCE THE INCIDENT, THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. MY CAR WILL ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ME PRESSING THE GAS. THIS HAPPENS AT LEAST 4 TIMES A WEEK WHILE I AM DRIVING AND HAPPENS WHEN I AM DRIVING BETWEEN 20 AND 50 MPH. WHILE DRIVING WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY, I NOTICED THAT I SEEMED TO KEEP PICKING UP SPEED EVEN AFTER I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. I THEN PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP, STILL UNABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I SLOWED DOWN AS MUCH AS I COULD AND THREW THE CAR IN PARK, WITH THE ENGINE STILL ATTEMPTING TO GO! OUR COMPANY HAS 2 OF THE 2005 FORD TAURUS. BOTH BOUGHT NEW FROM FORD DEALER. WITHIN WEEKS OF EACH OTHER IN YEAR 2009, WE EXPERIENCED MAJOR PROBLEM WITH BOTH. THE VEHICLES WOULD ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING AND IF CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AT THE TIME, THE DRIVER COULD NOT BRAKE OR TURN CRUISE OFF TO GET VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. THIS FIRST HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS DRIVING AND FELT THE ACCELERATOR PAD CLICK, THEN I NOTICED THAT MY SPEED WAS INCREASING. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT MY THROTTLE CABLE WAS ERODED AND NEEDED A REPLACEMENT. I GOT A NEW THROTTLE CABLE. ABOUT A MONTH LATER, I FELT THE CLICK AGAIN AND I SAW MY SPEED GO UP AGAIN; THIS TIME, IT UNCLICKED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND DROPPED OFF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THIS TIME THAT THE TUBE IN WHICH THE THROTTLE CABLE IS INSERTED WAS FILLED WAS DEBRIS SO THAT CAUSED ANOTHER JAM. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I ACCELERATED THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPENED TO MY GIRLFRIEND EARLIER WHEN SHE DROVE THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE ACCELERATION BY STOMPING ON THE GAS PEDAL TWICE VERY HARD. MY GIRLFRIEND HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHEN IT HAPPENED TO HER. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND HAPPENS RANDOMLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND CONDITIONS. WHEN IT HAPPENS THE ENGINE REVS TO ABOUT 4,000 RPMS WHEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL BEFORE GOING TO NORMAL. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT AS OF MARCH 2012 THERE WERE OVER 395,000 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND THAT THE NHTSA WAS INVESTIGATION. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND WELL DOCUMENTED. I AM A FORD FAN BUT AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THIS HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED PROPERLY ESPECIALLY IN THE WAKE OF THE TOYOTA RECALLS FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS A FEW YEARS AGO. I CONTACTED THE NHTSA THIS MORNING TO DISCOVER THAT: NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: PE12005 "A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED AT THIS TIME AND FURTHER USE OF AGENCY RESOURCES DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WARRANTED. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30-40 MPH, THE THROTTLE "STUCK". I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL IN ANY OF THESE CASES. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN - REQUIRED EXTREME BRAKE PRESSURE - WHEN I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE RPM WENT WELL ABOVE 3000 RPM. THE ISSUE STARTED AS A THROTTLE STICKING CLOSED. THIS REQUIRED A HARDER THAN NORMAL PUSH TO GET THE THROTTLE TO OPEN AND INCREASE ENGINE SPEED. THIS EVENTUALLY TURNED INTO THE THROTTLE STICKING OPEN AND NOT RETURNING TO IDLE. THE ON THE ROAD FIX WAS TO PUSH QUICKLY ON THE THROTTLE PEDAL A COUPLE TIMES TO GET THE THROTTLE TO RELEASE TO IDLE. THIS ALSO NECESSITATED RIDING THE BRAKES TO KEEP THE CARS SPEED UNDER CONTROL. OVER TIME THE ISSUE BECAME WORSE, WITH THE THROTTLE STICKING OPEN MORE OFTEN. WHAT I FOUND WHEN INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE WAS THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FITTING AT THE THROTTLE LINKAGE WAS DISCONNECTED. THE FITTING WOULD SNAP BACK ONTO THE PROPER PLACE BUT WAS VERY LOOSE AND WOULD POP BACK OFF EASILY WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS ACTUATED. I USED A PLASTIC TIE-WRAP TO TIGHTEN THE LOCKING MECHANISM IN PLACE. ANOTHER ITEM THAT I FOUND WAS A LOT OF VARNISH WHERE THE THROTTLE BUTTERFLY MET THE THROTTLE BODY (INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY) AT/NEAR IDLE. THIS CONTRIBUTED TO THE STICKING CLOSED/OPEN ISSUE. I USED CARB CLEANER WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY AROUND THE BUTTERFLY, AND OUTSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY ON THE LINKAGE. THE ISSUE AT THIS POINT HAS NOT RETURNED. I DO FEEL THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE CONNECTOR AT THE END OF THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE AFFECTING OTHERS ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE, IT SEEMS TO BE A WEAR ISSUE OF AN UNDER DESIGNED CONNECTOR. I DON'T KNOW IF THE VARNISH BUILD UP (AMOUNT) IS OUT OF THE ORDINARY, BUT HAVE NOT HAD THE STICKING THROTTLE ISSUE ON ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE OWNED. FIRST, I WANT TO SAY THAT THIS VEHICLE IS WELL MAINTAINED AND SERVICED ON A REGULAR BASIS. IT WAS A PLEASANT SUMMER DAY BUT HAD MORE OF A AUTUMN FEELING WHETHER. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN EAST TENNESSEE, I HAD JUST MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR MAYBE 10 MINUTES. I SLOWED DOWN FOR TRAFFIC TO ABOUT 40 MPH AS I CREST A HILL. WHEN I STEPPED BACK ONTO THE GAS (GOING DOWN HILL NOW), I FELT THE CAR SHIFT INTO 4 GEAR. I THEN FELT, AND HEARD A POP SIMILAR TO A BLOWOUT, BUT IN REALITY IT WAS THE CAR SLIDING OUT OF GEAR. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME- AND EACH EXPERIENCE IS AS FRIGHTENING AS THE LAST. 2005 FORD TAURUS WITH 53,000 MILES HAS A PROBLEM THAT THE ENGINE ACCELERATES ON IT'S OWN WHILE DRIVING. THE ENGINE ALSO REVS UP TO 4000RPM IN PARK ON ITS OWN. VEHICLE MUST BE TURNED OFF AND THE ACCELERATOR MUST BE PRESSED HARD TO "RESET" THE PROBLEM. BASED ON RESEARCH ONLINE AND PREVIOUS INVESTIGATION BY THE NHTSA, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT AND ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL YEAR.

DRY ROT IS SHOWING IN BETWEEN THE TREAD OF ALL 4 TIRES. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED NEW FROM SAM'S CLUB. TOURING T/A DOT (AP5M) (A721) (0212). THERE IS 8/32 OF THE TREAD REMAINING, MEASURED BY SAM'S. I HAVE HAD THE TIRES ROTATED EVERY 4500 MILES. I ASKED ABOUT THE DRY ROT AND THE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT I WASH THE CAR TOO MUCH. I PURCHASED 4 UNIROYAL LONG TOURING P215/60R16 TIRES FROM WAL-MART. AT 5,000 MILES I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AT WAL-MART. AFTER ROTATING THE TIRES, THE NEXT DAY THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY, BUT THE ACCELERATION SPEED WAS MORE AGGRESSIVE THIS TIME, I PULLED OVER INTO A EMPTY PARKING LOT I WAS TOO AFRAID TO BE BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES WERE WORKING I HAD TO PRESS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO FLOOR TO GET THEM TO STOP THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY. WHAT'S EVEN WORSE IS NOW MY CAR HAS STARTED TO ACCELERATE IN REVERSE AS WELL. AFTER SEEING THE SAME COMPLAINT OVER AND OVER ON THIS SITE I DO NOT KNOW WHY THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN RECALL. I was on my way to work. When I came to the stop sign to turn on the main road. I felt my car jerk. I thought it was weird and kept driving anyways. Then I noticed the resistance was gone from the gas pedal and it went straight to the floor. So I came to the stop light and kept my foot on the brake. When the light turned green and I had let go of the brakes. My car was accelerating on its own. I had to keep pumping the brakes so I wouldn't crash or hurt anyone. I managed to pull into a mechanic's shop and asked for help. The mechanic told me that it was my cruise control and that it wasn't disengaging. So he had to disconnect it from my car.

HAPPENED RIGHT WAY, THROTTLED REALLY HIGH RPM'S & SO I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL TO STOP. TRIED IT AGAIN OVER NEXT 24 HOURS & PROBLEM CONTINUED. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK WHICH MADE THE RPMS GO QUITE HIGH AND THEN SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND A CABLE DISCONNECTED GOING TO THE THROTTLE WHICH I BELIEVE IS PART OF THE CRUISE CONTROL. I RECONNECTED THE CABLE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. TODAY I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE. THEY GAVE ME THE CONTACT INFO FOR FORD OWNER AND I OPENED A CASE. FORD SAID THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. CURRENTLY THE CAR SEEMS OK BUT THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND IM NOT SURE IF THE CABLE WILL DISCONNECT AGAIN. ON THE MORNING OF JANUARY 30, 2013; I WAS DRIVING TO WORK APPROXIMATELY AT 8 AM AND NOTICED MY CAR BECAME DIFFICULT TO STOP. IT APPEARED TO BE ACCELERATING WHEN I WAS NOT TOUCHING THE GAS AND HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE ON THE BRAKE TO ALLOW THE CAR TO STOP. IMMEDIATELY UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CAR WOULD QUICKLY ACCELERATE TO 15-20 MPH. THIS CONTINUED ON AND OFF FOR MY ENTIRE 15 MILE COMMUTE TO THE OFFICE. STEPPING HEAVILY ON THE GAS PEDAL SEEMED TO STOP THE PROBLEM (SEEMED AS IF THE PEDAL WAS STUCK DOWN). PLACING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL WAS THE ONLY SURE WAY TO STOP THE ACCELERATION. ON JANUARY 31, 2013; THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. HOWEVER, THIS TIME IT HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH WITHOUT HAVING TO TOUCH THE GAS AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET TO 65. HOWEVER, THE CRUISE WAS OFF. AGAIN...HEAVILY PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED THE ACCELERATION. AGAIN, PLACING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL WAS THE ONLY SURE WAY TO STOP THE PROBLEM. BOTH MORNINGS WERE FOGGY/RAINY AND VERY HUMID. I WAS ON VACATION DRIVING UP THE COAST OF CALIFORNIA AND I NOTICED IT WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO BRAKE MY VEHICLE AND MY TACHOMETER WOULD NOT PREDICTABLY FALL AS I LET OFF THE GAS. IT WAS SUBTLE AT FIRST BUT THEN BECAME MORE PRONOUNCED SO I STARTED SHIFTING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO SEE IF IT WAS THE ENGINE OR SOMETHING ELSE. AFTER PUTTING IT INTO NEUTRAL I NOTICED THE CAR WOULD NOT GOES LESS THAN 2000 RPM ON THE TACHOMETER. THEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING INDEPENDENTLY OF MY INPUT THROUGH THE GAS. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND COASTED IN NEUTRAL, PARKED AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. AS I HAVE SOME AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC EXPERIENCE, I FIGURED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE LINKAGE OR SOMETHING WAS STUCK IN THE THROTTLE PLATE. ON INSPECTION, I NOTICED THE CRUISE CONTROL LINKAGE AND SLID OFF. I THEN WENT TO RADIOSHACK AND BOUGHT SOME SMALL ZIP TIES AND ZIP TIED THE LINKAGE IN PLACE. IT IS TO THIS DAY HELD IN PLACE WITH ZIP TIES AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE (108,000 MILES CURRENTLY). ALSO THE POWER STEERING WAS OFF IN THE CAR,AND IT COULD NOT MAINTAIN AN ALIGNMENT, AS YOU DROVE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JERK AND SHAKE. ODD NOISES EMANATING FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR OF THE CAR RESEMBLING A WHEEL BEARING ALSO WILL PROBABLY RESULT IN FURTHER REPAIRS. THE WORK WAS DONE AT MILEAGE 85462. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. SHE STATED THAT WATER WAS LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER STATED THAT SHE WOULD NEED A RAIN CAP EXTENSION INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. 2005 FORD TAURUS SEDAN - REAR TRUCK WILL RELEASE WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. WE BOUGHT THE USED VEHICLE IN THE SUMMER OF 2009, ON AT LEAST SIX OCCASIONS, THE REAR TRUCK LID OPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN INTERNAL RELEASE BUTTON, A REMOTE RELEASE BUTTON AND AN INTERNAL SAFETY RELEASE STRING. ON EACH OCCASION NEITHER BUTTON WERE ACTIVATED. NO CLICKING SOUND WAS HEARD ON EACH OCCASION. THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY REPORTS OF THIS. RIGHT FRONT (PASSENGER) STRUT SYSTEM - ON COMPLETION OF AN ALIGNMENT OF FORD TAURUS, THE RIGHT FRONT (PASSENGER) STRUT SYSTEM WAS DEEMED BROKEN. ALL OTHER SUSPENSION SYSTEMS WERE ALIGNED WITHIN THE RECOMMENDED SAFETY REQUIREMENTS, THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT SYSTEM COULD ONLY BE ALIGNED JUST OUTSIDE OF THE MAXIMUM SAFETY REQUIREMENTS, AND NO FURTHER ADJUSTMENT CAN BE MADE WITHOUT REPLACEMENT. *TR

I HAVE ISSUES WITH THIS CAR WHEN THE TEMPERATURE FALLS BETWEEN 20 AND 35 DEGREES WITH A COATING OF SLUSH OR SNOW FROM 1/4 OF AN INCH UP TO 5 INCHES. THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE TRAVELING AT 40 TO 65 MPH AND USUALLY ON A STRAIGHT AWAY SUCH AS THE THRUWAY. SOMETIMES WHEN THIS CAR HAS ISSUES I GET A THUMP FROM THE REAR AXLE AND THE VEHICLE SHIFTS VERY HARD BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH GEAR. IT'S AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.. IN THESE WEATHER CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE WILL BUCK OR SURGE AND FEELS LIKE THE MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS GOING TO QUIT FUNCTIONING. *JB

I BOUGHT A 2005 FORD TAURUS ON NOV, 29, 2005. APPROX.. 1 MONTH AFTER BUYING IT, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAK. IT HAS CUT OUT WHEN GOING UP A HILL, AND IT LUNGES FORWARD SLIGHTLY WHEN PARKING AND TAKING THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM 2 TIMES. THEY SAY THE BRAKE PROBLEM CAME FROM MANUFACTURING WITH THE 2005 MODEL AND THAT THEY DID NOT FIND ANY OTHER PROBLEMS AS I HAVE DESCRIBED. WE BOUGHT AN 05 FORD TAURUS IN JUNE OF 05. THE CAR HAS A POOR VENTILATION SYSTEM. YOU HAVE TO TURN THE CONTROL PANEL KNOB TO MAX A/C TO CUT OUTSIDE AIR FROM GETTING INTO THE CAR. OTHERWISE IF WANT HEAT OR A/C YOU HAVE TO BREATHE POLLUTED AIR INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. THIS A HEALTH HAZARD AND DESIGN FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE. THEIR HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS, DEATHS, CRASHES, FIRES, PROPERTY DAMAGE, BUT POSSIBLE HEALTH PROBLEMS FROM BREATHING IN OUTSIDE VEHICLE EXHAUST WHICH I THINK IS VERY HAZARDOUS AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD AND IT'S DESIGN TEAM. DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEN TURNING. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND WHERE THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM. HOWEVER THE SUSPENSION WORKED ERRATICALLY. THERE WAS A TEAR WHERE THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIRBAG WAS LOCATED ,AND THE LIGHT INDICATES IT WAS OFF. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNAWARE THAT THERE WAS A TEAR UNDER THE AIRBAG AND WHY IT HAPPENED.
