Throttle stuck and vehicle accelerated out of control. Had to brake hard and turn off engine to prevent crash. Speed Control Cable disconnected from cruise control. It has been repaired since the incident. Yes, was reproduced by the tow truck driver as well as at a service center. No warnings, only high engine revving noise as it happened, high RPMs and high speed noticeable on dashboard as my car's acceleration stuck. Case #FCAS37586176 reported to Ford company.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle failed to slow down as needed while depressing the brake to make a left turn. The contact stopped the vehicle and shifted the gear shifter to park; however, while parked the RPM rose to 5,000 RPM. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 169,530.

THE THROTTLE STICKS OPEN AND THE ENGINE REVS HIGH MAKING IT HARD TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP. THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE IS HOLDING THE THROTTLE OPEN BECAUSE OF A FAULTY ATTACHMENT TO THE THROTTLE CONTROL. THIS IS A KNOWN AND WIDE PROBLEM. PEOPLE ARE BANDAGING THE PROBLEM WITH BACK YARD FIXES THAT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS. NOT FIRST TIME.

Splines on Torque converter stripped out causing vehicle to just rev up and slow down to a stop. Car never moved again, had I been going up a large hill or something this could have been VERY VERY bad, because it wasn't until I was stopped that I realized it was the transmission having problems. After a bit of research and $500 in parts. I did the work myself. I find that the material inside of the torque converter is way softer than that on the input shaft causing the torque converter to strip out? How do they not have to fix that? This has been going on for over a decade! Why does someone have to die before they are responsible for something they know has a problem!

FOR THE PAST YEAR OUR CAR HAS HAD MOMENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION WITHOUT EXPLANATION. INITIALLY, TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTARTING IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AS OF JUNE OF THIS YEAR, SUCH WAS NOT THE CASE. WE STOPPED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, BUT WHEN RESTARTED IT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED AGAIN (WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL). OUR MECHANIC HAS LOOKED AT THE CAR TWICE AND HAS NOT IDENTIFIED ANYTHING SPECIFIC. HE HAS MADE SEPARATE REPAIRS HOPING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT AS OF TODAY, OCTOBER 26, 2014, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE A 2006 FORD TAURUS. I USED TO LIVE IN TEXAS AND MOVED TO BUFFALO AREA THIS SUMMER. Car engine accelerate on own. Tac meter shows over 3,000 RPM when I put it in neutral. I have to tap the accelerator and it goes back to normal. This happens about once a week now. I was slowing down for a stoplight and it happened. Brakes were not enough. Almost hit a car. Only by throwing into neutral allowed me to gain control and stop. My mechanic couldn’t find anything. I cannot allow anyone else to drive this as I am the only one familiar to handle it. I’ll probably sell it on a trade. I’ve read dozens of reports of this but no recall. I am surprised. I WAS DRIVING THROUGH DOWNTOWN WHEN I NOTICED INCREASES ACCELERATION AND TROUBLE WITH STOPPING. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK, IT WOULD REV UP TO 2500 PM. I WOULD STOMP ON ACCELERATOR AND IT BROUGHT IT DOWN TO NORMAL BELOW 1000 RPM IN PARK. THANKFULLY I AVOIDED HAVING 3 ACCIDENTS. I WAS ABOUT TO CALL FOR A TRUCK BUT DID NOT. I MANAGED TO DRIVE MY CAR BACK TO WORK. MY CO-WORKER LOOKED AT IT AND SAW THE THROTTLE WAS STICKING AND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CAME OFF. HE WAS ABLE TO REATTACH IT AND FIX THE THROTTLE. A WEEK AFTER HE FIXED IT I STARTED TO HAVE SOME ACCELERATION ISSUES BUT MINOR AND TODAY IT FINALLY GOT WORSE. I LOOKED ON HERE TO SEE IF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND YES I DID FIND A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH SAME ISSUES. I DO AGREE WITH A LOT OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2006 FORD TAURUS AND SUDDENLY THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING OUT OF CONTROL. SHE WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN BY BRAKING FIRMLY AND EVENTUALLY THE CAR STOPPED DOING IT. WE DID NOT DRIVE IT THE NEXT DAY. TWO DAYS LATER, I WAS DRIVING AND BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT WHEN THE CAR AGGRESSIVELY ACCELERATED AGAIN. ONLY BY SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES DID I AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF AND ON AGAIN, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RACING OUT OF CONTROL. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR QUICKLY UP AND DOWN AND THIS STOPPED THE ENGINE FROM RACING. SINCE THAT TIME, THE CAR HAS ACCELERATED MORE GENTLY (WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL) TWICE, BOTH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. 2006 FORD TAURUS SHUTS OFF AT STOP LIGHTS AND HAS ROUGH IDLE. IT ALSO LURCHES FORWARD REPEATEDLY WHILE THE BRAKE PEDDLE IS APPLIED AT INTERSECTION. AS IF IT IS REVVING TRYING NOT TO DIE. WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR THE THROTTLE CABLE GOT STUCK WITH THE CRUISE CABLE AND THE RPM RAISED TO 5000 AND DOESN'T COME DOWN. I SWITCHED THE GEARS BACK TO 1ST AND BROUGHT IT TO SLOW DOWN. LUCKILY THERE WERE NOT MUCH TRAFFIC OTHERWISE THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. I REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO FORD AND THEY INITIALLY DIDN'T TAKE IT SERIOUS. BUT AFTER I PUT IN WRITING TO BOB ALLEN FORD IN OVERLAND PARK THEY MENTIONED THAT A SERVICE MANAGER WILL CALL TO DISCUSS THIS ISSUE FURTHER. Intermittent accelerator sticking. After lifting foot from accelerator to prepare for braking/stopping the car continues to accelerate. Safety is at risk in traffic and intersections. There is online documentation related to previous NHTSA investigations. Ford and the local dealership has stated that there is not a defined recall. Although there may not be a “recall” this is certainly a safety problem!!

THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS AN ARM THAT CONNECTS TO THE THROTTLE-BODY. THAT ARM POPS OFF FROM TIME-TO-TIME. WHEN IT BECOMES DISCONNECTED, THE ARM WEDGES BETWEEN THE PIVOT POINT AND THE THROTTLE BODY, CAUSING THE THROTTLE TO STICK OR ACCELERATE.

THE CAR WILL MAINTAIN 80MPH WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, IS DIFFICULT TO STOP, AND WILL ACCELERATE TO GREATER THAN 50 MPH FROM STOP WITHOUT TOUCHING ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT'S A DEATH TRAP. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FLEX PIPE WAS FRACTURED AND REPLACED WITH A MODIFIED STEEL PIPE. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT THE STEEL PIPE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH A FLEX PIPE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.

ON JAN. 10 2014 I PURCHASED 2 NEW TIRES FROM LES SWAB HERE IN OROVILLE CA. IN OCT. 2015 I NOTICED A WOBBLE IN MY STEERING, TOOK THE CAR BACK TO WHERE I PURCHASED THE TIRES AND ASK THEM TO ROTATE THE TIRES AND CHECK FOR DEFECTS. WAS TOLD TIRES WERE OK BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, WENT TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD I HAD A TIRE BAD TIRE SEPARATION, WENT BACK TO LES SWAB AND THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE TIRE. I HAD PURCHASED A SET OF BFGOODRICH PREMIUM TOURING TIRES FROM COSTCO. I HAVE HAD BLOWOUTS IN 4 OF 6 TIRES, ALL WITH AROUND 45-55000 MILES ON THEM. DRIVING ON A FREEWAY AT 70MPH WHEN I LET OFF THE THROTTLE BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. CAME TO A STOP LIGHT AFTER EXITING FREEWAY AND HAD TO SLAM ON BREAKS TO COME TO A FULL STOP BECAUSE THE VEHICLE THROTTLE WOULD NOT STOP ACCELERATING. CHECKED FOR A RUG OR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT BE STUCK UNDER THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING WAS THERE. ONCE I ARRIVED AT THE DESTINATION I PUT VEHICLE IN PARK AND THE ENGINE REVED UP TO 4000 RPM. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SOLD MY VEHICLE WITH A LIFE-THREATENING DESIGN DEFECT IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS DESIGN DEFECT COMPRISES A PLASTIC COVER OVER THE STAINLESS STEEL HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES WHERE THOSE LINES PASS FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR TO ITS REAR BENEATH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE OSTENSIBLE PURPOSE OF THE PLASTIC COVER IS UNKNOWN TO ME, BUT ITS ACTUAL FUNCTION IS TWOFOLD. FIRST, IT TRAPS MOISTURE AND ROAD SALT TO CAUSE RAPID CORROSION OF THE STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES, WHICH CORROSION EVENTUALLY CAUSES THE LINES TO RUST COMPLETELY THROUGH, CAUSING ONE OR BOTH LINES TO BURST UPON APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES, RESULTING IN SUDDEN AND COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. SECOND, THE PLASTIC COVER HIDES THAT CORROSION FROM VIEW SO THAT CAREFUL VISUAL INSPECTION DOES NOT REVEAL THE CORROSION PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE KNOWLEDGEABLE MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED MY BRAKES AND WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PROBLEM, THE DESIGN DEFECT APPLIES TO BOTH FORD TAURUS AND FORD FOCUS MODELS. THAT MECHANIC HAS IN THE PAST URGED FORD TO RECALL THESE CARS BUT FORD HAS TO DATE REFUSED TO DO SO. PRESUMABLY THE DESIGN DEFECT OCCURS ALSO IN THE MERCURY SABLE WHICH IS MERCURY'S TWIN TO THE FORD TAURUS. THIS DESIGN DEFECT CAUSE MY BRAKES TO FAIL SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY, CAUSING ME TO HIT ANOTHER CAR. FORTUNATELY THE DAMAGE RESULTED IN NO PERSONAL INJURIES, BUT IT CAUSE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND PRESUMABLY COMPARABLE DAMAGE TO THE OTHER CAR. I SUDDENLY FOUND THAT MY BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHEN I WAS GOING AROUND 50 MPH. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE BRAKE BOOSTER. HE TOLD ME THAT HE SEES THIS PROBLEM MORE WITH FORDS. WHEN I GOOGLED A REVIEW OF THE FORD TAURUS 2006, THE VERY FIRST CONSUMER FEEDBACK THAT SHOWED UP STATED THAT HE NEEDED THE REPLACE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RIGHT AFTER HE GOT IT. I WAS DRIVING APPROX 45 MPH AND WENT TO DECELERATE. I NOTICED THE CAR NOT SLOWING DOWN AND THE TAC WAS AT 1800 RPM. I HIT THE BRAKES HARDER AND WAS READY TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL BUT DID NOT. I COULD HEAR THE BRAKES WORKING HARDER. THE RPMS STILL AT 1800 AS I TURNED INTO WORK. I HEARD A POP AND THE MOTOR RPMS DROPPED TO JUST UNDER 1000 RPMS. ON MY WAY BACK HOME THE CRUISE CONTROL SEEMED TO WORK PROPERLY WITH THE EXCEPTION OF NO ACCELERATION OR HOLDING SPEED. THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. I HAD 2 INCIDENTS WERE I NEEDED TO STOP QUICKLY. THE CAR FAILED TO STOP AND JUST SKIDDED AND SLID. THE BACK TIRES LOCKED UP AND FISHTAILED. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND IMMEDIATELY HAD EPISODES OF THE ACCELERATOR STICKING. HAPPENS ON NEARLY EVERY TRIP WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HAPPENS 4-5 TIME ON A 20 MILE TRIP. WORSE EPISODES OF STUCK ACCELERATOR WITH RAPID ACCELERATION AS IN FREEWAY ENTRANCE RAMPS. THE BRAKES CAN OVERRIDE THE STUCK ACCELERATOR, BUT IT IS FRIGHTENING WHEN IT HAPPENS IN TOWN. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE AND NOT FINDING A CAUSE, WE HAVE LEARNED TO STOP THE STICKING BY PUNCHING THE ACCELERATOR HARD ONCE OR TWICE AT A POINT IN THE ROAD WHERE MORE FORWARD ACCELERATION WILL NOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE. WE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE SO MUCH AND ARE SO FAMILIAR WITH IT, I SOMETIMES USE IT AS A CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE WHILE ON THE FREEWAY, BUT IT IS NOT AS RELIABLE AND IS NOT AS STEADY AS THE TRUE SPEED CONTROL DEVICE. Vehicle is now on 2nd transmission the original transmission failed around 60000 miles Ford originally put a brand new transmission in it for previous owner documentation was provided when we purchased the vehicle since move unknown where it's at now but this transmission has only 67000 miles on it experiencing same problems sometimes it will slip between 2nd and 3rd year other times it will slip between 1st and 2nd year sometimes they won't let it go over drive other times he gets stuck In overdrive no rhyme no reason for why it does what it does it just seems to do what it wants when it was but it really sucks when you're on the highway driving 75 mile an hour and decided to come out of overdrive and get stuck in 2nd gear so you have to slow down in front of everybody and it kind of forces you to do so that could easily get someone killed Going from 75 mile an hour to stuck in 2nd year limited speed very quickly with no brake lights Original transmission apparently has something to do with the torque converter or non hearted metals I'm not exactly sure because we were not in possession of owning the vehicle when it was replaced

I OWN A 2006 FORD TAURUS SEL 12V, I WAS DRIVING WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD (LIKE ABS, BRAKE LIGHT,) LIGHTED UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AND THEN I LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE. I HIT THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE BUT IN ABOUT 5-8 SECONDS LATER, THE CAR STARTED UP BY ITSELF WITH AN ABRUPT AND VIOLENT JERK FORWARD. IT WAS ALMOST AS IF I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN QUICKLY BACK ON .. WHILE I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, I NOTICED A WHOLE LOT OF WEIRD STUFF GOING ON. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE DIMMING IN AND OUT, THE LIGHT ON THE RADIO (THAT GREEN LIGHT THAT LIGHTS UP THE CONTROLS) WAS ALSO DIMMING IN AND OUT, AND THE ODOMETER NEEDLE WAS JUMPING UP AND DOWN BETWEEN 0MPH AND 5MPH, THE RADIO WOULD MAKE A NOISE LIKE IT WAS SHORTING OUT THIS WAS DUE TO CAR ABOUT TO SHUT OFF SUDDENLY, THE CAR SHUT OFF WITH ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS LIGHTING UP AGAIN AND THEN QUICKLY SHUT OFF. I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND UNTANGLE THEM AND SOMETIMES DRIVE REAL SLOW BENDING OVER TO LOOK OUT OF THE PASSENGERS SIDE WINDOW. THIS WOULD HAPPEN OFF AND ON DURING HARD RAINS OR HEAVY SNOWSTORMS. THIS YEAR WAS THE WORST. IN JANUARY OR FEBRUARY WHEN WE HAD A HEAVY SNOWSTORM THE DRIVER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER WOULD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CYCLE AND SIT RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD. I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO DRIVE IN PERIL. THIS APRIL (29TH), WE HAD ANOTHER HEAVY SNOWSTORM AND THE DRIVERS SIDE WIPER FROZE AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CYCLE, THEN IT WOULD SLAM ALL THE WAY OVER ONTO THE DRIVERS SIDE VIEW MIRROR AND GET STUCK THERE. I DROVE TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY TIGHTENED SOME SCREW ON MY WIPER AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. THE SAME THING HAPPENED THE NEXT WEEK (MARCH 4TH), IN A HEAVY RAIN. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AGAIN AND UN-SNAG THE WIPER FROM THE SIDE-VIEW MIRROR. EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS IN REAL PERIL OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT. I COULDN'T SEE THE ROAD AND WAS JUST LUCKY THAT I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT EACH TIME THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. I ONCE AGAIN WENT DIRECTLY TO MY FORD DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A STRIPPED WINDOW WIPER TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS NOT COVERED IN MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS SHOCKED SINCE I WAS TOLD THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED EVERYTHING ON THE CAR. I HAD TO PAY $89.50 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC THEN $241.98 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I RESEARCHED PROBLEMS WITH 2006 FORD TAURUS SEDANS AND FOUND THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR HAD A RECALL. I LET MY FORD DEALER KNOW THIS AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT THE TRANSMISSION THAT WAS BAD NOT THE MOTOR. IT SEEMS THAT WINDOW WIPER DESIGN IS FAULTY WHETHER ITS THE MOTOR OR TRANSMISSION.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power before stalling. The vehicle continued to roll forward before the driver was able to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Upon restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality; however, the contact stated that failure reoccurred three additional times. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the braking system. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 165,000.

THE WINDSHIELD BLADES DO NOT FUNCTION, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT COME ON ALL THE TIME. IVE TAKEN MY CAR TO SEVERAL SHOPS THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE STATING THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. APPROXIMATELY 2-3 MONTHS AGO, I BEGIN HEARING A WHINNING SOUND COMING FROM MY 2006 TAURUS AFTER I STARTED THE CAR AND BEGIN TO DRIVE. THE SOUND INTENSIFIED WHENEVER I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL EITHER TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. I PURCHASED A 2006 FORD TAURUS ON JUNE 24TH, 2012. THE TAURUS WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND IT RAN WONDERFULLY, FOR THE FIRST SEVEN MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. HOWEVER, IN NOVEMBER OF 2012, THE CAR BEGAN RANDOMLY SHUTTING OFF, SOMETIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT WOULD HAPPEN SPORADICALLY AND I THOUGHT IT WAS A PROBLEM THAT COULD BE FIXED. HOWEVER, AFTER TAKING IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, NO MECHANIC IS ABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. THE REASON BEING THAT SINCE IT HAPPENS SPORADICALLY, NO ONE CAN DUPLICATE IT NOR IS THERE ANY SAVED CENSOR ABNORMALITIES. I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, HOPING THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO DROP MY KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL AND DAYCARE WHEN I NOTICED IT WAS RUNNING AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH RPM (5000). I HAD TO DRIVE WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP THE SPEED AT A REASONABLE LIMIT. ONCE I GOT TO THE FIRST SCHOOL, I PARKED AND SHUT IT OFF THINKING MAYBE THAT WOULD HELP. WHEN I STARTED IT BACK UP, THE ENGINE RPM IMMEDIATELY SHOT BACK UP TO 5000 AND CLIMBING. THE ENGINE WAS MAKING SUCH A LOUD AND VIBRATORY NOISE THAT I SHUT IT OFF AGAIN AND CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE CAME OVER AND TRADED VEHICLES WITH ME. SAME THING WHEN STARTED IT; IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED REVVING AND HE PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND THERE WAS LOUD THUD AS IF THE ENGINE HAD HIT THE GROUND. HE LET OFF THE GAS AND IT STARTED PULLING ITSELF. (NOW FROM MY HUSBAND'S EXPERIENCE) HE TOOK IT ON THE INTERSTATE TO SEE HOW HIGH THE SPEED WOULD GET BEFORE IT TOPPED OUT. EVENTUALLY HE HAD TO START APPLYING THE BRAKES AT 93 MPH. FOR WHATEVER REASON, HE WONDERED IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN A SAFE SPEED AND HE WOULDN'T HAVE TO RIDE THE BRAKES AT 65-70 MPH. WHEN HIT THE CRUISE CONTROL IT DIDN'T WORK (HE REALIZED HE WAS RIDING THE BRAKES) SO HE HIT THE BRAKE AS FIRMLY AS HE COULD TO GET IT DOWN TO A SLOWER SPEED TO INVOKE THE CRUISE CONTROL. ONCE HE GOT DOWN TO ABOUT 50-60 MPH HE HIT THE CRUISE AGAIN AND IT CAME ON BUT THE CAR WAS STILL SLOWLY ACCELERATING. COWL LEAK ON 2006 FORD TAURUS WHICH ALLOWS WATER LEAK IN ON PASSENGER SIDE TO CONTACT ELECTRICAL PARTS INCLUDING HVAC BLOWER MOTOR AND RESISTOR. BLOWER CAN STOP WORKING AND IF WINDOWS ARE FOGGED OR NEED TO BE DEFROSTED IT CREATES A VERY HAZARDOUS CONDITION IMPOSSIBLE TO CORRECT. I AM TOLD BY DEALERSHIPS THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH THE TAURUS'. SEEMS MY 2006 FORD TAURUS HAS THIS COMMON CONDITION. I NOTICED THE DAMP PADDING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ONLY AFTER HEARING A SQUISHY SOUND WHEN I PRESSED DOWN ON IT WHILE ADJUSTING THE MAT. SO I PULLED THE CARPET UP AND SURE ENOUGH THE PADDING WAS WET LIKE A SPONGE. I COULD SEE WHERE THE WATER SEEMS TO COME FROM THE FIREWALL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, NEAR THE CENTER CONSOLE. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY ANNOYING AND MAKES ME UNABLE TO CONCENTRATE ON THE DRIVING. FORD SHOULD RECALL TO FIX THIS COMMON PROBLEM FOR ALL TAURUS OWNERS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A FACTORY DEFECT! *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A TUNE-UP; HOWEVER, THE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW WOULD GO DOWN BUT WOULD NOT RISE UP. AS OF DECEMBER 27, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.

SUBJECT: HEAD REST CONSTRUCTION IN NEW 2006 FORD FOCUS IN OUR CIRCUMSTANCES, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD REST IS ANGLED FORWARD ACUTELY SO THAT IT STRIKES ON A HORIZONTAL LINE ACROSS THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THE HEAD REST FORCES THE HEAD DOWNWARD INTO THE CHIN, AND MOST IRRITATINGLY CREATES A CONTINUING DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER WHO FEELS AS IF SOMEONE IS CONSTANTLY PLAYING WITH THEIR HAIR. WE WERE ADVISED THAT THERE IS "NOTHING" THAT THE DEALERSHIP CAN DO TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AS IT IS A DESIGN ISSUE GIVEN THE DEALERSHIP BY FORD MOTOR CO. HOWEVER, LOOKING AT OTHER FOCUS MODELS, CONFIRMS THAT OF THE TWO HEAD REST IN EVERY VEHICLE, ONE IS PREDOMINATELY "PUSHED FORWARD" OF THE OTHERS, AND THAT THE FORWARD ANGLES IN ALL EXAMINED HEAD REST IS DIFFERENT. WE HAVE TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT REPAIRABLE, BUT CAN BE MODIFIED. FURTHER DISCUSSIONS WITH OUR DEALERSHIP CONSUMER AFFAIRS MANAGER HAVE BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM SEEN NOT JUST IN THE FOCUS, BUT IN OTHER FORD MODELS AS WELL. IT APPEARS THAT THE USUAL FIX IS TO SIMPLY SWAP HEAD REST - I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IN SOME CASES THE HEAD REST ARE SIMPLY TURNED AROUND THE OTHER DIRECTION TO RESOLVE THE CUSTOMER COMPLAINT - OR REMOVED ALTOGETHER. ALTHOUGH WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS CONCERN, MY WIFE HAS REPORTED ONE "INCIDENT" IN WHICH SHE ALMOST BACKED INTO A VEHICLE BECAUSE SHE KNEE-JERK REACTED TO REACH BACK TO MOVE AWAY "SOMETHING CRAWLING ON MY HEAD." I AM CONCERNED THAT WHAT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT THAT CAN BE RANDOMLY WORSE ON SOME VEHICLES MORE THAN OTHERS, CREATES A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING THAT MAY PRECIPITATE AN ACCIDENT. FURTHER, DEALERSHIP SOLUTIONS MAY EXPOSE CONSUMERS TO SOLUTIONS THAT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF THE HEAD REST AS A SAFETY DEVICE ARE YOU AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND IS ANY EFFORT BEING MADE TO RECALL THE DEFECTIVE HEAD REST AND REPLACE THEM WITH ERGONOMIC REPLACEMENTS?
