POWER STEERING WENT WHILE DRIVING IN WET ICY CONDITIONS. SEEMS TO GO IN AND OUT NOW, USUALLY OUT. CHECKED FLUID LEVELS AND THEY ARE FINE. SEEMS TO WORK MAKING LEFT TURNS WITH ENGINE AT HIGHER RPMS. EVERYTHING I'M READING POINTS TO THE RACK AND PINION STEERING FAILURE. THIS IS A HEAVY CAR AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITHOUT POWER STEERING.1 REPAIR COST RANGE BETWEEN $800 AND $1,300.

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, I HAVE A VERY HARD TIME. I AM OVER 6', AND WEIGH 230 LBS. MY WIFE IS SMALLER, AND SHE HAS ONE HECK OF A TIME TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. AFTER READING PROBLEMS OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD, I DECIDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT. IT IS NOT SAFE. I BELIEVE A RECALL IS IN ORDER FOR FORD TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM, NOT THE OWNERS OF THE VEHICLE.

CAR HAS AROUND 87,000 MILES. WHILE LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY THE WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN, AS IF THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE STEERING IS ON AND OFF WITH THE POWER STEERING. TOOK IT TO PRIVATE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1200. REALLY SUCKS BECAUSE WE JUST BOUGHT THE CAR ABOUT 1000 MILES AGO. AFTER LOOKING ON LINE I FIND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL?

ON 5/4/18. I HAD BACKED OUT PUT 2008 FORD TAURUS IN DRIVE AND PULLING FORWARD IN TRAFFIC THE CARS RPM REV UP LOADLY AND CAR MOVED SLOWLY FORWARD WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC COMING UP BEHIND ME AND SEVERAL CARS GOING AROUND ME. I PULLED TO LEFT TURNING LANE AND STOPPED. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL THEN REVERSE FELT A JERK THEN PARK. I SAT THERE A FEW SECONDS. THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON DASH. I PUT CAR IN DRIVE AND PROCEEDED HOME. WHILE DRIVING HOME THE RPMS REV UP AGAIN TWICE. THE WRENCH SYMBOL AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER BEING PARKED OVERNIGHT. THE SHIFT IN THE TRANSMISSION IS ROUGH AND JERKY IN MOTION. IT DID THIS WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED AND WE HAD THE CODE CLEARED AND HAD A RECALL ON THE EMISSION OR PCM FIXED BY FORD. NOW THE LIGHTS ARE BACK ON AND THE SHIFTING IS AS I SAID EARLIER ROUGH AND JERKY.

I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, STOPPED AND ON THE BRAKES WAITING FOR AN OPENING IN TRAFFIC WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY CAR TRIED TO SURGE ME FORWARD, REVVING UP VERY HIGH. IT SOUNDED AS IF THE CAR MAY BLOW UP. I HAD TO STOMP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET AND FIGHT TO KEEP FROM THE CAR THROWING ME OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND IT STOPPED. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE NEAREST SERVICE STATION, WHERE THEY LOOKED AT IT & TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE THEY LOOKED AT IT SO THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHAT WENT WRONG WITH IT. MY HUSBAND CALLED FORD AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT AND WE WERE THE FIRST ONES THAT HAD THAT GO WRONG WITH THEIR FORD TAURUS. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED, I SAW NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE EXACT THING HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW, AND WILL NO LONGER TEACH MY SON TO DRIVE WITH IT. HAD CRUISE CONTROL SET TO ON POSITION, I ACCELERATED TO PASS A CAR, THEN THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED ON EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS OFF OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO SPEED RAPIDLY WITH THE ENGINE REVVING EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN TO 60 WITH MY FOOT PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WAS TRAFFIC AROUND ME AND I DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE CAR. I HAD TO MOVE ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. LUCKILY THE PAVED SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WAS GRATED AND SOMEHOW CAUSED THE CAR TO STOP (INTERMITTENT ACCELERATION 3X), AND THEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. UPON EXPLAINING THIS TO MY FATHER, HE WONDERS IF THE ACCELERATION CABLE STUCK WHEN I INITIALLY ATTEMPTED TO PASS A CAR AND THEN SHOOK LOOSE AND BECAME UNSTUCK WHEN DRIVING OVER THE GRATED ROAD - NOT SURE. I WAS GLAD TO MAKE IT OUT OF THAT SITUATION ALIVE BUT NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE IN HOW TO PROCEED WITH THIS PROBLEM. MY FATHER CALLED A FORD DEALER MECHANIC AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR. UPON TAKING OFF FROM A STOP HE WAS HIT NOT BY ONE CAR BUT TWO CARS. MY FATHER IN LAW HAS HAD THIS CAR SINCE 2009 AND THEY HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF IT. THEY ONLY HAVE THIS CAR. I PULLED UP THE RECALL ON MY PHONE AND SHOWED THEM THE RECALL. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANYTHING FROM FORD REGARDING THIS SO UNTIL THEY DO THEY CAN NOT FIX IT. EVEN THOUGH CAN SEE FORD CLEARLY STATES A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. AT THAT TIME MY CAR WAS 8/9YRS OLD. I WAS DRIVING AND HEAR A POPPING NOISE AT THE REAR OF THE CAR GOING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. MORE SO WITHOUT WEIGHT IN THE BACK AND IF ROCKING SIDE TO SIDE ON UNEVEN ROADS. TOOK TO DEALER ON NEXT AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT AND WAS TOLD DRIVER SIDE REAR SPRING BROKEN. HAD IT REPAIRED THE NEXT DAY AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I WAS TOLD IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IT THE WAY IT WAS. THIS I KNOW, BECAUSE I HAD A 1995 FORD TAURUS THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SPRING BROKE AND RUBBED A GROOVE INTO MY TIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING UNDER 15 MILES PER HOUR. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY RECALLS FROM FORD AND I DID NOT RECEIVE MOST OF THEM. I'VE LIVED IN THE SAME PLACE FOR 13 YRS BEFORE I BOUGHT A HOME AND HAVE BEEN HERE 11 YRS. MY 1995 WAS KEPT OUT SIDE AND MY 2008 HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE BOUGHT BRAND NEW. THE 1995 WAS A YEAR OLD WHEN I BOUGHT IT. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE TAURUSES. SAME DRIVER, 2 DIFFERENT YRS, HOUSED DIFFERENTLY AND BROKEN SPRINGS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WITH A TRUCK CLOSE BEHIND, WHEN IT JUST DIED. I HAD NO POWER STEERING, BRAKES, ETC. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH THINKING I WAS GOING TO BE HIT BY THE TRUCK BEHIND ME. I HAD NO WARNING, NO LIGHT CAME ON AND MY SON CAME TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. HE SAID IT WAS OVERHEATING. WE HAD IT TOWED HOME AND WHEN HE CHECKED IT THE OIL WAS CREAMY , WHITISH. HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. WE RESEARCHED IT, AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CYCLONE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO THE WATER PUMP FAILING, WHICH IS INSIDE THE ENGINE ALONG WITH THE TIMING CHAIN!!! I WAS SHOCKED! WATER PUMPS GO BAD, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT. WHY WOULD ANY COMPANY PUT A WATER PUMP INSIDE THE MOTOR?!?! I NEVER WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT IF I HAD KNOWN BECAUSE IT IS JUST WRONG. THEN I FOUND OUT FORD HAD BEEN USING THAT ENGINE FOR OVER 10 YEARS, EVEN WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND I WONDER HOW MANY ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES AND DEATHS HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THIS. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!!! WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE A NEW ENGINE PUT IN, I'M 63 AND DISABLED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO DO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED THROUGH DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.

I PULL OVER, TURN CAR OFF AND PUTTING IT IN PARK OR ANY GEAR, IT JERKS AND IS LOUD. IT SEEMS AS IF EVERYTHING ON THE CAR IS JUST SHUTTING DOWN, YET STILL WORKING. THE WRENCH SYMBOL HAPPENS MORE OFTEN, AND ALL THE OTHER SYMBOLS ARE ONLY SOMETIMES. I JUST SPENT $1000 ON THE TRANSMISSION GETTING REPAIRED SO IT SHOULDNT BE THAT. I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, DECELERATING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 8 WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR SPED UP SIGNIFICANTLY PUSHING THE CAR FORWARD. EVEN THOUGH I APPLIED HEAVY FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE AND RPM GAUGE KEPT INCREASING TO BETWEEN 1800 AND 2400 RPM'S, FAR FROM THE AVG OF 800 WHEN COMING TO A STOP. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE RPM AND ENGINE SPEED KEPT INCREASING JUST AS IF THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK. I PUT IT IN PARK AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. FURTHER DIAGNOSIS SHOWED THAT THE COMPUTER THAT RUNS THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WAS RUINED WHEN THE COIL BURNT OUT AND FOR THE CAR TO RUN AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO IT WILL ALSO NEED THIS COMPUTER. THE BRAKES SEEM TO WORK WELL AND I HAVE MAINTAINED MY OWN VEHICLES, SO THERE IS NO REASON THIS SHOULD BE WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT HAS VERY LOW MILES FOR THE YEAR AND HAS MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING. IN MARCH 2016 MY VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS. WHEN MAKING A TURN, RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPONTANEOUSLY GRABS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS DISABLES THE VEHICLE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT SEVERAL TIMES, AS IT HAPPENS AS I'M HEADING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE VALLEY FORD DEALERSHIP HERE IN KALISPELL, MONTANA 3 TIMES IN AN EFFORT TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN RIGHT AFTER IT FIRST STARTED HAPPENING, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE BRAKES. SO I PAID $1070 TO HAVE THE BRAKES AND ROTTERS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THEM 2 MORE TIMES AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ONGOING PROBLEM. ON 8/28/12 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY. ON 8/29/12 I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO SYOSSET FORD OF HUNTINGTON ("SYOSSET")FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR OF THE MALFUNCTION CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO ON. SYOSSET DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A MALFUNCTIONING FUEL SENDER ATTACHED ABOVE THE TAURUS' FUEL TANK. SYOSSET EFFECT A REPAIR BY REPLACING THE FUEL SENDER AND CHARGED ME $411.38(BEFORE SALES TAX). ON 9/4/12 I SMELLED GASOLINE FUMES IN THE DRIVER/PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO SYOSSET WHO EFFECTED A REPAIR OF THE LEAKING FUEL SENDER. ON 9/27/12, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN, I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AGAIN TO SYOSSET ON 9/28/12. MY WIFE HAD A KOHL'S BAG IN THE TRUNK. SOME HOW THE CENTER STOP LIGHT WHICH IS A HIGH INTENSITY BULB CAME LOSE WHICH LET IT DROP DOWN ABOUT 8" CAUGHT THE BAG ON FIRE. The contact owns a 2008 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled however, she was able to pull over and stop the vehicle. The contact stated that she noticed that the check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the engine temperature gauge was indicating that the engine was overheating. The contact observed that white smoke was coming out from under the hood. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle and had the vehicle towed to her residence. An independent mechanic went to the residence to diagnose the vehicle. The independent mechanic determined that the head gasket had blown and the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

ON 5/20/19 I FILLED UP MY FUEL TANK AND WHEN I RETURNED HOME I SMELLED GASOLINE. I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK ON TO THE GROUND. I IMMEDIATELY PUT DOWN ABSORBENT, PARKED THE VEHICLE ON A FLAT SURFACE OF MY DRIVEWAY AND PLACED A LARGE CATCH PAN UNDER THE VEHICLE WHERE THE FUEL WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE HAD PASSED EMISSIONS ABOUT 2 OR 3 MONTHS PRIOR THAT INCLUDES A TEST ON THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE AMOUNT THAT LEAKED OUT WAS APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF OF A LITER IN TOTAL THEN STOPPED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS EVER COME ON AND THE FUEL LEAK ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I FILL THE TANK UNTIL THE GAS PUMP STOPS, I HAVEN'T FILLED THE TANK FULL AGAIN UNTIL YESTERDAY 9/17/19 WHEN I FILLED THE TANK FULL. AFTER THE FIRST LEAK WAS NOTICED I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC THAT PUT THE CAR ON A LIFT AND DROPPED THE FUEL TANK PRESSURIZED IT AND COULD NOT FIND OUT WHERE THE FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM. HE INSTALLED A NEW SENDING UNIT AND FUEL PUMP GASKETS AND REINSTALLED THE FUEL TANK, FILLED THE TANK FULL AND NO LEAK WAS NOTICED. TO BE SAFE AND EASE MY MIND I DIDN'T FILL THE TANK FULL UNTIL YESTERDAY 9/17/19 WHEN I NOTED THE LEAK AGAIN. THE MECHANIC SAID HE DIDN'T NOTICE ANY PREMATURE WEAR ON THE FUEL TANK OR ANY OF THE COMPONENTS WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO HIM. I SPOKE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC TODAY AND HE SAID IT COULD POSSIBLY BE A FAULTY EMISSIONS VALVE THAT IS LOCATED ON TOP OF THE TANK. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 9/20/19 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED OUT AGAIN. I AM CHECKING HERE TO SEE IF OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND IF A RECALL WAS EVER AVAILABLE AND IF NOT TOO ADD THIS TO COMPLAINTS.

IT BECAME AN EXPECTED EVENT . BRAKES WERE NOT SUFFICIENT TO HOLD THE CAR BACK FROM THESE SUDDEN JOLTS - UNFORTUNATELY. COMING HOME ONE NIGHT, CAR STARTED ACCELERATING BEYOND THE AMOUNT I WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL AND THEN IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOW TRYING TO ACCELERATE. NEW DASH LIGHTS - WRENCH, AIRBAG, AND GAS ALL CAME ON. MILEAGE DISPLAY DISAPPEARED AND, INSTEAD, CAR SHOWED THAT CAR WAS EMPTY OF GAS (I HAD FILLED THE TANK NIGHT BEFORE AND WAS SHOWING "FULL" PRIOR TO THIS SUDDEN CHANGE WITH VEHICLE.) BARELY MADE IT HOME AND CAR DID NOT ACCELERATE ENOUGH TO GO UP THE SLIGHTEST INCLINE OF DRIVEWAY APRON. REPAIR WAS MADE TO TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, I AM NOTICING THE SAME SUDDEN POWER SURGE/SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. I TRY TO CONVINCE MYSELF THAT IT'S JUST BECAUSE I WAS SO SCARED DRIVING HOME THAT NIGHT. ON 1/23/2018, MY 2008 FORD TAURUS EXPERIENCED, FOR THE FIRST (AND SO FAR, ONLY) TIME, THE SAME POWERTRAIN SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED AT FORD TSB NUMBERS 07-21-11 AND 08-26-13 (FOUND AT HTTP://WWW.REVBASE.COM/BBBMOTOR/TSB/DOWNLOADPDF?ID=139970 AND HTTP://WWW.REVBASE.COM/BBBMOTOR/TSB/DOWNLOADPDF?ID=147402, RESPECTIVELY). SPECIFICALLY, WHILE IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT IN PREPARATION FOR A TURN, MY VEHICLE SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR WITH NO INPUT FROM ME. I NOTICED THIS WHEN, AS I ATTEMPTED TO SLOWLY ACCELERATE INTO THE MERGE LANE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE. THERE WAS NO SOUND OR OTHER SIGN THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR SPONTANEOUSLY. I SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACK AS IT SHOULD. WHEN I SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE, THERE WAS A SMALL CLUNK. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR, UP TO AROUND 1,500 RPMS. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND HEARD/FELT A LARGER CLUNK, AND NOTICED THAT THE YELLOW WRENCH ICON ON THE DASH ILLUMINATED. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED 30 SECONDS, AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE THEN OPERATED NORMALLY FROM THAT POINT FORWARD WITH NO SIGNS OF TRANSMISSION OR SHIFTING ISSUES. THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT DID NOT REAPPEAR, AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED SINCE THAT TIME. I HAVE DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES AND 6 DRIVE CYCLES SINCE THAT TIME WITH NO SYMPTOMS. MY RESEARCH INTO THIS ISSUE IDENTIFIED THE ABOVE TSBS AND I CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY ABOUT THE ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME THAT, WHILE THOSE TSBS DO APPLY TO THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR OF VEHICLE, MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED ON THE LIST. THEY SAID I NEEDED TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INSPECTED BY NHTSA SO THAT IT CAN BE ADDED TO THIS LIST.

THE FORD TAURUS SEL HAS 237,836 MILES ON IT. TWO TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY THEN ON A COUNTY ROAD THE DASH SHOWED ALL ZEROS AND THE CAR LOST POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR EXHIBITED SLOW ACCELERATION AND UNUSUAL SHIFTING. I TOOK IT AND HAD THE OBD CODE READ. THE CODE INDICATED THAT IT WAS A SPEED SENSOR IN THE TRANSMISSION (P720). THE CODE WAS RESET AND THE CAR IS CURRENTLY BEING DRIVEN. IT HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN A TWO-WEEK PERIOD. THE LAST TIME I BROUGHT THE CAR IN WAS FOR A POSSIBLE BAD SPEEDOMETER READING AS WAS PULLED OVER FOR GOING 70 IN A 55 AS WHICH SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 55. BROUGHT IN FOR BOTH CONCERNS AND DETERMINED THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS BAD AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS BAD ALSO. SPEEDOMETER BEING OFF IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ALL AND SHOULD HAVE NO REASON TO GO OUT. PURCHASED VEHICLE IN FEB 2010. DRIVEN TO TAKE CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL AND BACK HOME APPROX TOTAL MILEAGE ROUND TRIP DAILY IS 6 MILES AT MOST. FIRST INSTANCE HAPPENED WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND SLOWING DOWN BY PRESSING THE BRAKE BUT THE MOTOR ACCELERATED RPMS INSTEAD AS IF I WERE PRESSING THE GAS. LASTED FEW SECONDS AND BEGAN DOING AS IT SHOULD. NEXT INSTANT HAPPENED COUPLE MONTHS LATER WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE TO STOP AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM TAKING CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. TRIED TO STOP IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I REACHED THE HOUSE AND THE MOTOR ACCELERATED INSTEAD AND HAD TO TURN THE SWITCH OFF TO MAKE IT STOP MAKING THE ACCELERATION NOISE. FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR ALL OF A SUDDEN LOST ALL ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHEN THE MOTOR BEGAN ACCELERATING BUT CAR SLOWING DOWN AS IF IT HAD BEEN KNOCKED OUT OF GEAR. THE DIFFERENCE WAS IT WAS STILL IN GEAR AND PRESSING THE BRAKE DID NOTHING AND STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. MANAGED TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND STOPPED THEN IT JUST STARTED DRIVING NORMAL AGAIN. THE CAR HAS PROBLEMS WITH REAR CASTER ALIGNMENT. ACCORDING TO FORD AND OTHERS THERE IS NO ALIGNMENT FOR REAR CASTER. I STARTED NOTICING PROBLEMS AT APPROXIMATELY 15K MILES. AFTER TAKING IT TO AN ALIGNMENT SHOP WITH NO FIX I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER. THEY CONVINCED ME IT WOULD ONLY BE MINOR WEAR ON THE REAR TIRES. I AM NOW ON MY 3RD SET OF TIRES AT 49K AND AFTER TAKING IT TO MORE ALIGNMENT SHOPS AND A FRAME SHOP. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND FORD SAID I HAD SAGGING SPRINGS (I WAS NOT CONVINCED). THE PROBLEM AND THE LIGHT WOULD EVENTUALLY RETURN. IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE THE AIR FILTER, THE AIR FILTER WAS CHANGED AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS. NOW NOT ONLY MY WRENCH LIGHT BUT MY ENGINE LIGHT ALSO GOES ON AND IT RETURNS EVERY DAY AFTER RESETTING IT. WHEN I ACCELERATED, THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY TOOK OVER AND SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND REVVED UP HIGH AND FAST. MY FIRST REACTION WAS TO HIT THE BRAKES, I DID, BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT DEPRESS OR BRAKE. I WAS TRYING TO THINK OF EVERYTHING TO DO AND MONITOR THE CARS AROUND ME, AS WELL. I TRIED HOLDING DOWN THE BRAKES HARD AND TAKING OFF WHILE THE CAR WENT FLYING BY TWO EXITS, I KNEW I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT BECAUSE I COULDN'T STOP. I CONTINUED WITH TRYING TO LOCATE THE FLASHER AND THINKING ABOUT HITTING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT, I DIDN'T BECAUSE I WAS UNSURE WHETHER IT WOULD COME TO A QUICK STOP. I KEPT PUSHING DOWN AND UP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. SUDDENLY, THE REVVING BEGAN TO SETTLE DOWN (A FAST DOWNWARD REVVING SOUND) AND I WAS ABLE TO BRAKE THE CAR. I WAS UNSURE WHETHER TO PULL OVER SO I DECIDED TO CONTINUE TO MY DESTINATION WHICH WAS ONLY 3 EXITS AWAY. I PARKED AND LOOKED AT THE CAR AND ESPECIALLY THE AREA NEAR MY FEET, THERE WAS NOTHING INTERFERING WITH THE BRAKES OR THE ACCELERATOR. I PANICKED ALL THE WAY HOME, NOT KNOWING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN SO I STAYED OFF THE FREEWAY, BELIEVING THE FREEWAY SPEED WOULD CAUSE A SIMILAR ISSUE. AS SOON AS I GOT HOME, I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND SOME SIMILAR INSTANCES WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL. I WILL CALL THE DEALER TOMORROW. I HAD A PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH THE TRANSMISSION STOPPING ON THE FREEWAY AND DISENGAGING WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN I STOPPED. WHEN I WOULD PULL OVER AND SWITCH THE GEARS, THE CAR WOULD MAKE A LOUD DROPPING SOUND. AND IT WOULD BE DIFFICULTY TO SWITCH GEARS. THE CAR SHIFTS AT TIMES AND KICKS BACK. THE DEALER REPLACED A SENSOR BUT, IT HAS NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE COMPLETELY. I'VE TAKEN IT BACK AND THEY FOUND NOTHING. I HOPE THEY WILL FIND SOMETHING, AS I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR AFTER TONIGHTS EXPERIENCE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD RATTLING NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING TO THE MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE FRONTAL SWAY BAR WAS REPLACED TWICE. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WITH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE HEATED SEAT SENSORS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
