Was driving my terrain and suddenly it started to shake and then check engine Light came on. Upon getting out I checked the dipstick and no oil was on dipstick. Start to put oil in and it's running out of the oil pan underneath the vehicle. Towed it home removed oil pan and engine parts laying shattered in bottom. Never got a low oil alert . Had codes misfire and knock sensor.

My 2013 GMC Terrain suddenly began to jerk as I was heading to run an errand in town. I pulled my truck back in the drive way at [XXX] where it is parked now. I had a mechanic to come and tell me the engine will need to be replaced and an estimate of the cost to repair it. I could have been rear ended by another vehicle since this suddenly occurred with no prior warning which could result in my death. I have contacted GMC due to a recall on the engine. Oil consumption rate was too high, roughly 2qts every 1500miles. Caused timing chain to break. Second time with the oil consumption. First fix under 100k mile warranty checked off as recall. It was done before a recall came out. Paying for timing chain to get fixed but recommended a new engine. Prefer GMC to replace engine since it's an ongoing issue. 307373 miles strong and now this.

THIS VEHICLE IS CONSUMING OIL AT AN EXCESSIVE RATE. THIS HAS CAUSED OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS SOLENOIDS NEEDING REPLACEMENT AS WELL AS A TIMING CHAIN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AMONG THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I HAVE TO ADD OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND IF THE TIMING CHAIN GOES DUE TO THIS, IT CAN CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT.

The contact owns a 2013 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled with the check the engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and pulled over in a parking lot, where the vehicle again lost motive power and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and the dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 143,083.

A loud popping noise was coming from the middle to back of vehicle. Upon inspection by independent repair shop a hole in side of transfer casing was found. No warning lamps came on to indicate any problem even after noise was heard. Once problem was determined it was felt that if vehicle had not been taken out of operation when it was and continued to be driven that a possibility could exist of the transfer case gearing becoming bound up and causing loss of control of vehicle due to various wheels possibly binding or maybe locking up. Transfer case has been replaced.The transfer case was disassembled and found to have intermediate shaft bearing (if I have identified it correctly) completely destroyed causing shaft to come out of alignment and all attached gears to mesh incorrectly causing gear damage. In reviewing this site it was noticed that this problem has occurred three to four times over the past few years to other vehicles as well. It would appear that there may be an issue with the bearing associated with the intermediate shaft on the side of the transfer case where the hole in the case is found and could possibly be associated with something in either the design of the transfer case or quality of the bearing itself.

The hydraulics that are intended to hold up the rear lift gate have failed. After opening the lift gate and leaning in to get something out of the rear of the car, the lift gate will begin to close and hit or hurt the person that is standing at the back of the car. I have not shown this to a dealer or independent service provider, but it is easily reproducible. Likewise, I have not shown this to a manufacturer, the police, or an insurance representative. There were no warning lamps regarding this issue. The problem just started happening approximately 12 months ago.

Previously wrote to NHTSA and filed complaint about problem with steering rack. Steering Rack BECAME a safety issue as the steering would lock up intermittently and even while driving. Repair (complete replacement) cost nearly $2000 with diagnostic fee from dealer. I feel my year should be covered as other years are. Other issues with GMC quality of parts, so I will probably not buy another GMC product. 2013 GMC Terrain SLE. GMC needs to address this issue and treat ALL customers fairly.

WHEN DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL AND LOCK UP WITH OUT WARNING. YOU CAN TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE COMPUTER RESETS AND EVERYTHING IS NORMAL ONLY TO FAIL IMMEDIATELY. WHEN STEERING WHEEL TURNED HARD TO EITHER SIDE, 'SERVICE POWER STEERING' LIGHT COMES ON. MY REPAIR SHOP TRIED TWICE (FIRST IN APRIL, THEN AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER) TO REPROGRAM COMPUTER. TOOK TO GMC DEALER. I HAD ASKED IF THERE WAS SECRET WARRANTY OR BULLETIN ON PROBLEM AND THEY SAID YES, BUT I NEEDED TO PAY $150 FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THEY TRIED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO PERFORM 'SPECIAL COVERAGE 14232A' BUT AS STATED ON INVOICE ' PROBLEM STILL EXISTS', . THEY DO COVER 2010-2012 MODELS BUT I HAVE THE 2013. I CALLED GMC AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM EXISTS (SINCE 2015) BUT WILL NOT COVER MY YEAR CAR. THE REPAIR IS $2000 FOR THE COMPLETE STEERING GEAR. I HAVE HAD MANY CARS, ALL WELL MAINTAINED BUT NONE EVER NEEDED A STEERING RACK REPLACED. MY 2013 GMC TERRAIN SLE HAS ONLY 67745 MILES. I AM UPSET THEY CHOOSE TO COVER ONLY SOME YEARS WHEN THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM EXISTS FOR OTHER YEARS. IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE SO I WILL NOT HAVE IT REPAIRED. I NOW HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHERE I PARK AND DRIVE SO AS NOT TO HAVE TO MAKE SHARP TURNS-RIDICULOUS! I TOLD THEM THIS WAS MY FIRST, AND PROBABLY LAST, GMC PRODUCT. I HAD A LENS ASSEMBLY REPLACED WITH GENUINE GMC OEM PARTS AND THE SAME LEAKS OCCUR. SEEMS THEIR QUALITY CONTROL IS LACKING. PLUS THEIR ISSUE WITH HEAVY ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. AND AIR BAGS??? The key can be removed from the ignition in P, R, N, D, and M after the vehicle has been shut off. The vehicle does not provide any warning that the vehicle is not in park prior to allowing you to remove the key. The vehicle does not indicate the vehicle is not in park after the key has been removed. You are not able to start the vehicle if the vehicle is in anything other than park. I contacted GMC to inquiry about this issue and was told my vehicle’s VIN is not included in the recall for this known issue.

IF THE RADIO IS TURNED OFF WHEN YOU START THE CAR, SOMETIMES YOU CANNOT TURN IT ON. 3. CONTROL PANEL BELOW RADIO IS NOT ILLUMINATED AT TIMES. 4. SEAT HEATER LIGHT ON CONTROL PANEL DID NOT TURN ON WHEN BUTTON WAS PRESSED. COULDN'T TURN SEAT HEATER OFF 4. TIRE PRESSURE DIAGRAM IS INCORRECT. SHOWS THE WRONG UNDERINFLATED TIRE. 5. LIGHTS ON ODOMETER/RADIO PANEL WILL SOMETIMES CHANGE TO VERY BRIGHT OR VERY DIM. THE KNOB TO CONTROL THE BRIGHTNESS DOES NOT WORK WHEN THIS HAPPENS. 6. A FEW TIMES THE A/C KICKED ON WHEN DRIVING AND WE WEREN'T USING THE AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL FEATURE. 7. AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE FOR HOURS, THE CONTROL PANEL WILL SPONTANEOUSLY LIGHT UP FOR NO REASON. 8 EVERYTHING POINTS TO CONTROL PANEL BUT SINCE PROBLEMS ARE INTERMITTANT DEALER WONT REPLACE. AND YOUR FORM STUPIDLY ALLOWS ONLY 1 DATE WHEN THERE WERE 20 INCIDENTS OVER A YEAR IN TIME.

MY A/C STOPPED WORKING AND MY MECHANIC FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE THE CIRCUIT BOARD IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD. THIS BOX ALSO CONTROLS MANY OF THE VEHICLES FEATURES. HE HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME FINDING A NEW BOX. MY TOTAL COST WAS $461.00.

AROUND 50K THE SIDE DETECTION WARNING SYSTEM AND PARK ASSIST QUIT WORKING. UPON TAKING IT IN FOR REPAIRS WE FIND THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE, AND REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AT A SHORTAGE..DUE TO HIGH VOLUME OF REPAIRS. WE CALLED GM CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY STATE THERE IS NO RECALL AND OUR REPAIR WILL BE OVER $1000 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. WE FEEL THIS IS UNFAIR PRACTICE SINCE THEY ARE AWARE THEY HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

The exhaust and emissions system appears to have failed or is malfunctioning, including the catalytic converter and potentially the exhaust manifold or upstream exhaust components. The engine and fuel/propulsion system are also affected, as evidenced by sputtering and drivability issues. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection upon request. Exhaust and/or fuel fumes enter the passenger cabin, particularly when the heater or air conditioning is operating. This creates a risk of exposure to harmful exhaust gases, including potential carbon monoxide, which poses a serious health and safety risk to vehicle occupants. The vehicle also sputters and hesitates, which could lead to unsafe driving conditions, especially in traffic or at highway speeds. Yes. The issue has been confirmed through diagnostic trouble codes indicating catalytic converter efficiency failure. Despite replacement of spark plugs and sensors, the problem continues to recur, indicating an underlying exhaust or emissions system defect rather than routine maintenance. The vehicle has been inspected by service professionals for diagnostic purposes. The manufacturer has not physically inspected the vehicle, and no inspections have been performed by police or insurance representatives to date. The check engine light illuminated prior to and during the issue. Additional symptoms included engine sputtering, loss of smooth acceleration, and a strong exhaust or fuel odor inside the cabin when the HVAC system is in use. These symptoms have recurred over time despite repairs.

While driving on the highway at speed limit 75mph, the vehicle (without warning ️) suddenly went into (Reduced Power Engine Mode/ Service Stabilitrack) jerked and slowed down to 35mp almost causing a pile up as cars behind and next to me where still driving above 70mph. If not for my quick reaction to turn on emergency lights cars behind me would have hit me. Immediately after I got off the highway I drove the car (at 35mph as fast as it went) to my nearest Pepboys. Here the vehicle was serviced for nearly a month until the problem was fixed. The cost was almost $6500 GMC has failed to notify customers if this potential issue which not only risks the lives of the drivers and passengers of the 2013 Terrain but those driving alongside it. This is not a new issue as I found the testimonies of many other GMC owners tell a similar dangerous experience. Please help! I have detailed invoices of the repairs.

Vehicle burns excessive amounts of oil. I need to add oil almost every time I drive. This could result in catastrophic engine failure. GMC and Chevrolet know about this problem, but refuse to issue a recall for this engine.

IIN EARLY 2020 I REACHED OUT TO 2 DIFFERENT GMC DEALERSHIPS IN REGARD TO THE RECALLS THAT EXISTED ON MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE AND OIL CONSUMPTION. THE VEHICLE WAS OVERCONSUMING OIL (I WOULD TRACK THE OIL LEVELS) AND NEEDED EXCESSIVE OIL CHANGES. THE FIRST DEALERSHIP SAID THAT MY VEHICLE DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL DUE TO MILEAGE WHEN I JUST RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. SECOND DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT VEHICLE. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE ENGINE BLEW, SPILLING OIL EVERYWHERE. THE ENGINE NOW NEEDS A TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT. HAD THE DEALERSHIPS AGREED TO LOOK AT THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING AND HAD KNOWLEDGE OF THE GMC RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE, I WOULDN'T HAVE AN INOPERABLE VEHICLE AND NEEDED TO PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE DUE TO THE ENGINE ISSUES NOT BEING COVERED THAT WERE COMMON KNOWLEDGE ON THESE MAKE/MODEL/YEAR VEHICLES. I HAVE TRIED TO WORK WITH DEALERSHIPS AS WELL AS MY THE FINANCER OF THE VEHICLE, GMC NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE AND CONTACT ME. SINCE THE WARRANTY ENDED ON THE VEHICLE THE 1ST YEAR I OWNED IT, I HAVE PUT NEARLY $10,000 INTO FAULTY PARTS AND REPLACEMENTS ON THE VEHICLE THAT WEREN'T "COVERED". I WOULD LIKE THIS SITUATION INVESTIGATED DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUES THE ENGINE CAUSED THAT WERE REFUSED TO BE LOOKED AT AND NOW THE NEGATIVE FINANCIAL ASPECT IT HAS CAUSED ME.

THE REAR MAIN SEAL ON THE ENGINE BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE PCV SYSTEM BEING FAULTY. MY CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WITHOUT WARNING IN 10 DEGREE WEATHER WITH NEGATIVE 10 DEGREE WINDCHILL, LEAVING MY FAMILY AND STRANDED WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO EVEN GET HEAT INTO THE CAR.

When refueling, and having the fill nozzle locked on for auto shutoff, the fuel overflows and drains out of the fuel fill cavity and drips on the right rear tire. This usually results in gasoline smell in the car. This happens on most fuel nozzles. I should have reported it years ago.

WE LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND THE CARB FUEL PUMP NOZZLES ARE CUMBERSOME BEASTS. BUT THE NOZZLE POPS OUT OF THE FUEL FILLER WHEN PLACED ON AUTO-FILL AT 4 OUT OF 5 GAS STATIONS. IT'S DANGEROUS WHEN IT POPS OUT AND FALLS ON THE GROUND SOMETIMES PUMPING GAS ALL OVER. I TOOK THE TERRAIN TO THE DEALER AND OF COURCE THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I WAS ABOUT TO SWITCH LANES ON HIGHWAY FROM ON RAMP TRAVELLING APRPOX 60 MPH AND ACCELERATING WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDELING STOPPED ACCELERATING & SOMEONE PULLED UP ON MY SIDE TO INFORM ME I WAS LEAKING FUEL EVERYWHERE. I LOST NEARLY A FULL TANK OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY. ONE OF THE MEN WHO STOPPED HAD WORKED ON GM VEHICLES IN THE PAST AND WAS ABLE TO CLIP SOMETHING TOGETHER TO SLOW THE LEAK. I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE NO HELP AND DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THE ISSUE OR HOW SERIOUS THIS WAS FOR A 2 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 37K MILES. I WAS TOLD I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME AND WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME A $200 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. DISAPPOINTED BY THE POOR SERVICE I RECEIVED I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WORKS ON OUR OTHER VEHICLE. THEY WERE SHOCKED TO SEE A FUEL LINE ON A 2013 VEHICLE BREAK. THEY ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT FUEL LINE FROM GM AND I GOT MY CAR BACK ON 5 DAYS LATER. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK MY CAR OUT TO RUN ERRANDS AND WHEN RETURNING TO THE VEHICLE I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS, UPON LOOKING UNDER THE CAR I NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS STILL LEAKING AND FROM THE SAME PLACE! WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SHOP AND THEY IMMEDIATELY GO IN TOUCH WITH GM WHO SENT OUT ANOTHER REPLACEMENT PART AND ALSO RECOMMENDED ALSO REPLACING THE METAL LINE AS THEY HAD BEEN SEEING SOME ISSUES WITH THIS LINE. UNDER THE RECOMMENDATION OF GM THE SHOP REPLACED BOTH LINES AND I GOT MY CAR BACK 3 DAYS LATER. THE PROBLEMS I HAVE EXPERIENCED ARE UNACCEPTABLE AND COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS HURT BUT HAD I BEEN IN THE HIGH SPEED LANE AND TRAVELING AT FULL SPEED LIMIT WHEN THIS HAPPEN I OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED BY THIS ISSUE. GIVEN THE AGE OF THE CAR AND LOW MILEAGE THIS IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE, THIS IS 100% A DEFECTIVE PART OR MFG PROBLEM THAT I EXPECT GM TO REIMBURSE $670 FOR REPAIR.

The mechanic informed the contact that the engine could be repaired and suggested that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

The contact owns a 2013 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that when slowing down to come to a stop, the vehicle was jumping and hesitating, causing the contact to shift into neutral(N) to stop the vehicle and prevent the vehicle from shaking. There was a fuel odor that smelled like rotten eggs. The check engine warning light was intermittently illuminated at first but became a constant failure. The vehicle was previously included in the emissions recall N192268180; NHTSA Campaign Number: 10183214 (Engine and Engine Cooling); with DTC: P0420 and the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the repair was performed had not matched the repair in the Emissions recall. The contact stated that the dealer had replaced the oxygen sensor instead of the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors as stated in the remedy. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 10183214 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, since the repair was marked completed, there were no additional repairs available due to the mileage. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

2013 GMC TERRAIN. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SMELLING EXHAUST IN VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WAS A CRACKED MANIFOLD AND REQUIRED A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. SIX MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN SURGING WHILE SITTING IDLE AND STALLED OUT. THE TIMING CHAIN WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS.

I HAVE CALLED GM ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS REGARDING MY ENGINE FAILING WHILE DRIVING. STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY INTERSECTIONS. MY HEATER DID NOT WORK, MY RADIO WILL FREEZE UP AND IS NON FUNCTIONING SOMETIMES..I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN. AS I WRITE THIS MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AFTER A $1,000 REPAIR OF THE TIMING CHAIN. I have almost been in 3 accidents. My 2013 Terrain has stalled while driving..Cut off at lights. Engine reduced while driving and massive oil leak that gas caused timing chain and engine failure. I have read other complaints, and this is sad GMC has been allowed to get away with this. These engines are dangerous and need to be replaced before someone looses their life.

I was driving my 2013 GMC Terrain to a friends house, I stopped at a stop light, when I picked up speed, the car stalled and wouldn't get up to speed. Eventually, it did pick up speed. I went to turn into her neighborhood and the same thing happened. Trying to get to the destination, I continued into the neighborhood. I stopped at a stop sign, and when I tried to accelerate, the car died. No indicator lights were engaged. I turned the car off and waited a minute or so and turned it back on. I got to her house, and charged my battery and drove home without issue. The next day, I went to have my battery checked and they alerted me to a horrible oil leak. I had the car towed to the dealership. The next day, the dealership told me that GMC would specifically have to look at the vehicle to diagnose. I had the car towed to my trusted mechanic and he told me the rear main oil seal blew out and found a service bulletin regarding this issue #14882. I made an appointment with the dealership only to find out that this isn't covered under the bulletin, because it expired in November of 2022, and it's not covered under my warranty. The warranty company stated, "if there isn't evidence of moisture in the PCV it would be covered, but since it's a known issue and a consistent problem with the vehicle, it's not covered." So, my only choice is to pay out of pocket for a defective part that will continue to break and cause the rear main oil seal to blow out of the car, potentially putting me and my 9 year old daughter at risk, because GMC isn't acknowledging this issue and recalling the faulty part that is the ROOT of the problem and has been widely reported. There is also a class action lawsuit that is currently open and ongoing (Case 2:22-cv-10785-MAG-JJCG) which is trying to hold GMC responsible for not recalling the part sooner - when they were made aware of it - putting thousands of consumers at risk. It's also fraudulent for this information to not be disclosed at point of sale.

OIL WAS POURING OUT FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR 2013 GMC TERRAIN, "LOW OIL PRESSURE SHUT OFF ENGINE" SIGNAL CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. TERRAIN HAD TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. DIAGNOSTIC TEST CAME BACK WITH #19-NA-021. WE WERE INFORMED ABOUT SB-10057977-8108, A RECALL FROM GM INVOLVING AN OIL LEAK FROM REAR PART OF ENGINE. WE HAVE ALSO BEEN INFORMED THAT OUR VIN IS INELIGIBLE AND CANNOT BE PROTECTED THROUGH THE SPECIAL COVERAGE, BUT ARE REQUESTING AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE MATTER.

OUR TERRAIN STARTED KNOCKING RIGHT BEFORE IT'S DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WE CHECKED IT AND IT HAD NO OIL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BRUSHED IT AWAY AND STATED THAT IT'S NOT LEAKING BUT COULD BE BURNING THE OIL. IT WASN'T UNTIL WE TALKED TO A MECHANIC THAT WE WERE TOLD THAT CERTAIN GMC VEHICLES BURNING OIL AND THAT IT IS RECOMMENDED WE SPEND MORE MONEY ON MORE OIL REPLACING 1 QUART EVERY 1000 MILES. WE ALSO FOUND THAT OUR RADIO STOPPED WORKING BUT BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP FAILED TO INFORM US THAT THE WARRANTY WE GOT DIDN'T COVER THE RADIO. THEY TOLD US WE COULD GET IT REPAIRED BUT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. THIS WILL BE THE LAST TIME WE BUY A GMC OR A CHEVY SUV DUE TO THE ISSUES WITH GETTING THE REPAIRS DONE AND THE FACT THAT WE WANT A RELIABLE VEHICLE.

When driving my Terrain, my traction control light came on, then a message on the display saying service stabilitrack and engine power is reduced. I couldn't go over a certain speed. I've taken it to Autozone to be put on the computer and it shows up stabilitrack. The car stops running and it takes a few minutes to get it running again. I just bought the car and I'm having problems with these lights and controls. I have read online about this same issue. Is this a recall or does it have to be more complaints about this first? I love my car but these issues are too much. The car has 211k miles on it. Please help me

The engine locked up due to oil leaking into it. This is a known issue with GM on these model cars but instead of issuing a recall they issued a special warranty that expired leaving consumers with these vehicles to be responsible for this repair which cost over $8,000.

LESS THAN A MONTH AGO, WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 95 IN THE LEFT LANE DURING RUSH HOUR THE ENGINE BLEW ON A 2 YEAR OLD GMC TERRAIN. HOW THIS IS AT ALL POSSIBLE I HAVE NO CLUE, BUT LUCKILY ENOUGH I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COAST OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND AWAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK. BELOW IS THE BACKGROUND INFORMATION, AS WELL AS THE HEADACHE I HAVE HAD TO UNDERGO SINCE THIS HAPPENED. -1 MONTH PRIOR TO THE ENGINE BEING BLOWN I HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR A 5,000 MILE CHECK-UP -NIGHT BEFORE THE INCIDENT THERE WAS A FLUTTERING NOISE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE, SO PLANNED ON TAKING TO SHEEHAN THE NEXT MORNING AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30 AM ON 3/17/2015 WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 95 IN THE LEFT LANE DURING RUSH HOUR AND THE RPMS DROPPED TO ZERO -WITNESS SOMETHING THAT LOOKED LIKE OIL LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE WAS TOLD TO SHEEHAN BUICK GMC WHERE THEY LOOKED AT IT AND THE NEXT DAY REPORTED THAT THE ENGINE BLEW, A ROD TO THE PISTON SNAPPED AND TORE A HOLE THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE -WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT WHEN THE ENGINE WENT IT "GRENADE" INSIDE AND RESULTED IN LONGER TO FIX AND REPLACING MORE PARTS LIKE A MANIFOLD. -SINCE IT WAS FIXED I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO TAKE THE CAR BACK I LEFT THE SHOP AND GOT ON INTERSTATE 95 FOR ABOUT 10 MILES WHEN I NOTICED THE CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT ON IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO SHEEHAN AND TOOK THE LOANER BACK -WAS TOLD NOW HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTORS -2 WEEKS AFTER THAT WEEK REPAID ENGINE LIGHT ON AGAIN FOR A WIRE HARNESS. *TR

I’ve been having a issue with my oil consumption and display messages about servicing the stabilitrak and traction control. I could be driving and suddenly my engine power is reduced asking with these two messages. I received a letter from GMC about the excessive oil consumption due to degraded catalytic converter and/or oxygen sensor. The one oxygen sensor was replaced before I received the letter. The letter states I should get the oil consumption diagnosed. I’ve went 4 times now and the oil dipstick smells like gas but the dealership is saying the special coverage has expired. My letter says otherwise. Why send a letter about a possible issue and then not help to fix it?

WHILE THE CAR IS EITHER IN DRIVER OR REVERSE, IT MAKES A WEIRD TICKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE FRONT HOOD. THE NOISE GOES AWAY IN PARK. HOWEVER, THE NOISE CAN ONLY BE HEARD WHEN THE CAR IDOLS AT A CERTAIN RPM. THE CAR MAKES A RATTLE LIKE SOUND WHEN THE RPMS ARE LOW, LIKE BETWEEN 500 TO 1500. FOR EXAMPLE: WHEN I'M CRUISING DOWN TOWN AT SPEEDS OF ABOUT 25-45MPH, I CAN HERE THE RATTLE SOUND. WHEN I BACK INTO MY GARAGE, THE NOISE CAN BE HEARD EVEN LOUDER BECAUSE THE GARAGE AMPLIFIES THE SOUND. WHEN I USE CRUISE CONTROL TO ACCELERATE, IT DOES NOT MAKE THIS NOISE. AS IT IS ACCIDENTS ARE UN-WELCOMED, TO ADD TO IT THE SAFETY FEATURE (AIRBAGS) FROM MY GMC VEHICLE CHASIS NO [XXX],ORIGIN CANADA,REGISTER IN UAE DID NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. A DEPLOY SIGN APPEARED ON THE DISPLAY, BUT NONE OF THE AIRBAGS FUNCTIONED AS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW LESS THAN A YEAR AGO UNDER WARRANTY WITH COMPLETE SERVICE HISTORY. THE DAMAGE WAS SO MUCH TO THE VEHICLE THAT MY INSURANCE COMPANY DECLARED IT AS TOTAL LOSS AND ARE SETTLING WITH ME FOR THE AMOUNT THEY HAD INSURED THE VEHICLE FOR (OR A SUITABLE SUM). DESPITE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT FUNCTION, PUTTING MY LIFE AT RISK. A GMC REPLY WHICH PUTS SERIOUS QUESTIONS ON THE REAR IMPACT TEST PRACTICED IN DESIGN .A AIRBAG SYSTEM INTEGRATED WITH SEAT BELT AND WARNING SIGN, UPON CRASH FULLY EXTENDED BUT DID NOT ROLL BACK TO FACTORY SETTING IS CLEAR SIGN FOR VISUAL EVIDENCE.A EDR(EVIDENT DATA RECORDER)WILL NOT BE ACCESSED BY THE CUSTOMER DUE TO RIGHTS HELD BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR WARRANTY. The buckle positioned between the legs failed by ripping through the plastic base of the car seat. The plastic base was damaged and the buckle was no longer attached to the car seat. Child sustained fatal injuries from this crash.

The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, a fuel odor was detected. The contact was concerned that her and her passenger had experienced carbon monoxide poisoning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who reset the fuel carbon sensor and replaced the fuel cap; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

My 2013 engine blew out, I did an oil change around February and a month later took my vehicle to aamco and they found a gallon of coolant in the engine. None of the warning lights came on prior to this happening at all whatsoever. The oil life was still at 32% with no oil in my engine. All 3 of my windshield wipers as well rotted within the year that I purchased the vehicle. Now I do not have a working vehicle at all whatsoever due to the engine and car not wanting to start. When I put the code reader in when it first happened it told me it was the camshaft sensor so I changed both sensors and all the spark plugs and even bought the crankshaft sensor and it was none of the above until later I found out it was the engine that blew. I have spent so much money on this vehicle it’s ridiculous.

Bought my 2013 Gmc Terrain with 84,000 miles for $16,000. At 97,774 miles had to have it serviced for excessive oil consumption with timing cover and front crank seal cleaned and timing cover gasket replaced. Cost over $700. Then at 100333 miles had to have a new timing chain put in and water pump also the camshaft and cam phasers cost over $2,000. Now it is around 121000 miles and the lights on dash light up while driving to service stability track and I can not go faster then about 30 miles an hour. It then goes off and randomly comes back on while driving at any speed. Also there is a HUGE OIL PROBLEM with oil not just dripping like a small leak but spewing basically from underneath vehicle. I have to literally put oil in my car before I drive it anywhere because it all leaks out while I drive. Was told by a macanic I have a leak where the engine meets the transmission and my options for fixing it are to totally replace the engine hahaha or get a new vehicle. Wtf GMC this is not ok!

While pulling out of my driveway the car stalled and the stabilitrak light came on. Car would not start again. Had it towed to dealership because it seemed something electrical was the issue and now they say it needs a complete new engine because it lost oil compression. No oil light has ever come on, no other lights and no oil leaking on our driveway or anywhere else that we’ve noticed. Dealership says they can’t tell us exactly why the engine failed. The car only has 53000 mikes on it. We bought it in august of 2014 and maintain it appropriately

While driving, the traction control light turns on. Then the gauges all start fluctuation. The dash reads service park assist. Then service stabilitrak. It does not run properly. It shifts hard. I’ve had it to the dealership twice now. The issue is still not resolved and it’s going back next Monday. I feel it will again not be resolved after reading multiple forums of others having the same issue after spending thousands of dollars. This is frightening and stressful to say the least. My car has less then sixty thousand miles on it. I should not be having this issue.

1. Engine burning oil, had to be replaced at 100,000 miles. In repair shop again, oil coming out of exhaust?? 2. Car would stall out while driving, try to accelerate at a red light, almost crashed a few times. Back window has been covered in oil from exhaust. Couldn't see. 3. Only used White Plains Buick/GMC for repairs. Car is there now. 4. NYS DMV is currently investigating 5. Check engine light just recently came on

On the car seat the latch does not come unlatched as soon as you press he red release button it in the font part of the car seat and the big red latch in the back of the car seat does not detach the car seat from the base of the car seat . My baby was chocking and I couldn’t get him out of the car seat ,I had to place my hands on my baby and flip the car seat over until the chocking stopped. And on the stroller the car seat doesn’t attach well and when it did it’s very hard to detach the car seat from stroller as in you would have to remove the baby from car seat just to remove the car seat from stroller.

DRIVING HOME FROM WORK LAST NIGHT IN MY CAR AND WHEN I GOT TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD, I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW A TAD FOR SOME FRESH AIR, AND THEN NOTICED A WEIRD CRANKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I HAD NOT NOTICED ANYTHING ON THE 25 MILE DRIVE TO WORK THAT MORNING AND MOST OF THE DRIVE HOME UNTIL SLOWING DOWN FROM HIGHWAY TO NEIGHBORHOOD ROAD. WHEN I GOT TO MY CARPORT I PARKED MY CAR AND GOT OUT, NOTICING THE SMELL OF BURNING OIL. I QUICKLY LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW OIL SPILLING, AND LOOKED BEHIND MY CAR TO SEE A HUGE LINE OF OIL FROM WHERE I HAD COME THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD TO THE CARPORT. FAINT BLUE SMOKE WAS ALSO VISIBLE, AT THIS POINT I SHUT MY CAR OFF. THERE WAS NEVER A SINGLE INDICATION LIGHT OF ANY SORT AT ANY POINT IN TIME. I HAVE FULL SERVICE RECORDS I HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED MY CAR EVERY 5000 MILES OR LESS, LAST TIME BEING BARELY 2 MONTHS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, $150 SERVICE AND FULL CHECKUP. 30 MINUTES LATER I CAME BACK OUT TO INSPECT AND EVERYWHERE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF MY CAR WAS DRIPPING OIL ON THE GROUND, A GOOD 7X3 FOOT AREA WITH DRIPS EVERYWHERE AND MAIN POOL NEAR THE FRONT. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I HAVE SEEN MANY MANY CLAIMS DESCRIBING THIS EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL AS ME, AS LITTLE AS 8 DAYS AGO POSTING ABOUT IT. OUT OF NO WHERE I BEGAN TO SMELL THE ODOR OF BURNING OIL AND SEEN WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. AS SOON AS I NOTICED IT MY CAR'S GAUGES STARTED COMING ON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, A WARNING TO FOR "SERVICE STABILITRAK", THEN THE WARNING FOR "ENGINE POWER REDUCED". AT THE MOMENT MY CAR ALL THE SUDDEN SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HIGHWAY! THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING AND IT WAS VERY HARD FOR ME STEER MY CAR INTO THE PARKING LOT OF WALMART AND SAFELY OFF THE ROAD. ONCE IN THE PARKING LOT I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CHECKED MY OIL. SMOKE IS ROLLING OUT OF THE DIPSTICK SHAFT. I CHECK MY OIL WEEKLY DUE TO GM'S OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES WITH THE 2013 GMC TERRAINS AND ON 1/15/2020 THE OIL WAS AT FULL, WAS OF NORMAL COLOR AND CONSISTENCY WHEN I FUELED AND CHECKED IT THAT DAY. SO I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THERE WAS NO OIL ON MY DIPSTICK AND INSTEAD A MILKY BROWNISH SLUDGE ON IT. I SENT MY FIANCE TO BUY ME 2 QUARTS OF OIL JUST TO GET IT TO THE WALMART SERVICE DEPARTMENT SO THEY COULD LOOK AT IT SINCE I WAS IN THE WALMART PARKING LOT. I ADDED THE OIL DROVE IT 100 YARDS TO THE SERVICE DEPT OF WALMART. THE SERVICE MAN PULLED IT INTO THE GARAGE AND THEN INFORMED ME A FEW MINUTES LATER THAT THE REAR MAIN SEAL BLEW AND OIL WAS FLOWING OUT OF IT. IT WAS NOT DRIVEABLE SO I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A GM DEALER. THE GM DEALER CALLED ME THIS MORNING 1/21/2020 TO INFORM ME THAT THE REAR MAIN SEAL BLEW DUE TO MOISTURE IN THE INTAKE AND A FROZE THE PCV MODULE AND CAUSED TO MUCH PRESSURE TO BUILD UP AND BLEW THE SEAL. THE DEALER QUOTED THE REPAIRS TO BE $2065.69 AND INFORMED ME THAT THE REPAIRS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE GM SERVICE BULLETIN #14882 BECAUSE MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE BULLETIN.

I HAVE HAD MY 2013 GMC TERRAIN FOR 3 YEARS AND IT HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION, STARTING, TRACTION LIGHT COMES ON BY ITSELF AND TRUCK CUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THIS STARTED SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. OIL, IT CONSUMES LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL BETWEEN THE OIL CHANGES. I CHECK THE DIGITAL OIL DISPLAYS, THAT SHOW HOW MUCH OIL REMAINS, AND IT CAN GO FROM 80% REMAINS TO 70% REMAINS IN A MATTER OF DAYS. ICUTTING OFF, THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES. WHEN I DRIVE, IT LOOSES POWER AND CUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. NO WARNING AT ALL. THIS IS VERY SCARY ESPECIALLY WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. IT WILL LOOSE POWER AND NOT ACCELERATE AND I HAVE HAD DRIFT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I AM SCARED IT WILL DO THIS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS. STARTING, MY SUV CAN START WITH NO PROBLEM AND I CAN DRIVE TO THE STORE 5 MINUTES AWAY AND IT WILL NOT START WHEN I RETURN. I TRY STARTING IT 5 TIMES AND IT WILL FINALLY START. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. IT WILL START IN THE MORNING WHEN I GO TO WORK OR TAKE KIDS TO SPORTS PRACTICE OR THEIR GAMES AND WHEN I LEAVE WORK WILL NOT START AFTER 8 HOURS. AFTER A 1-2 HOUR GAME, SAME THING OCCURS, IT WILL NOT START. I HAVE TAKEN IT FOR DIAGNOSIS, RECEIVED CODE AND HAD IT REPAIRED. AFTER A FEW DAYS, SAME THING HAPPENS. MY MECHANIC CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. MY TRACTION LIGHT HAS ALSO COME ON BY ITSELF, FOR NO REASON. MY CAR SINCE DAY ONE STEERING WHEELS LOCKS UP CONSTANTLY, THE BRAKES DO NOT STOP YOU THE WORST IS THE ENGINES BATTERY WHICH IS LOCATED UNDER THE SEAT CONSTANTLY SAYS I HAVE NO POWER IT WILL TURN ON SEVERAL CODES AND THE START IDLING THE RPMS GO UP LIKE YOUR PRESS G THE GAS BUT YOU NOT THEN YOU STALL YOU CAN BE GOING 70 OR 20 MPH AND IT WILL JUST STALL WITH NO WARNING. THE STEERING WHEEL WILL AND I LOSE TRACTION IN REGULAR ROADS IN PERFECT WEATHER. I CAN'T SEEM TO LOCATE MY AIRBAGS I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICES A MILLION TIMES THEY ALWAYS SAY NOTHING IS WRONG ALSO WHEN THE RPMS OR GOING UP.AND DOWN I LOSE ALL HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 GMC TERRAIN. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CENTER CONSOLE LOST POWER INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO IG BURTON LEWES AUTOMALL (17861 COASTAL HWY, LEWES, DE 19958), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIO MODULE ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,956. **TR CONSUMER STATED TOOK VEHICLE TO I.G., BURTON 8/15/2018 VEHICLE'S CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS WERE NOT WORKING CAUSING THE HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING,DEFROST, NAVIGATION SYSTEM, RADIO CONTROLS AS WELL AS THE PANEL ILLUMINATION TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. THIS WOULD HAPPEN INTERMITTENTLY. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. WENT TO PICK IT UP ON THE 16TH AND IT WAS NOT WORKING. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE RADIO CONTROL MODULE. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY 2013 GMC TERRAIN. IT HAS A 2.4 CYLINDER ENGINE THAT CONSUMES TOO MUCH OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BY GM FOR THE PROBLEM BUT THEY HAVE NOT DONE A FULL RECALL YET. VEHICLE WAS STALLING DUE TO LOW OIL ISSUES. INTAKE SOLENOID HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF LOW OIL LEVELS. TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKED FROM TRANS TORQUE CONVERTER SEAL, LEFT REAR WHEEL HUB HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO BEARINGS GOING BAD ALL WITH JUST 52K MILES. THE ENGINE SPECIFICALLY IN MY VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD/CONCERN FOR ANYONE WITH A FAMILY. MY WIFE IS A NANNY AND DOES NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AGGRESSIVELY. I HAD DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE NOT VERY MANY MILES ON A NEW FRESH OIL CHANGE AND THE NEXT TIME I WENT TO CHECK MY OIL THE DIPSTICK HAD NO OIL ON IT!! I WAS FURIOUS BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT A LIGHT THAT INDICATOR THAT CAME ON IN MY VEHICLE TO TELL ME I HAD LOW OIL OR ANYTHING!! I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE 2013 GMC TERRAIN DENALI AND NOTICED THAT IT HAS A BOGGING SENSATION IN THE STEERING AT IDLE WHEN TURNING. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING IS GOING TO CUT OUT - ALMOST LIKE NOT FULLY ENGAGING THE CLUTCH ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WHEN THE ENGINE IS ABOUT TO DIE. VERY NOISY AND ANNOYING IN THE TIGHT PARKING GARAGE WHEN YOU HAVE TO TURN THE STEERING AT A STANDSTILL DURING IDLE. THERE IS A TICKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH THAT SOUNDS LIKE A CONSTRUCTION WORKER JACKHAMMERING ABOUT 1 BLOCK AWAY WITH THE WINDOWS UP. IT CAN ALSO BE DESCRIBED AS A HELICOPTER HOVERING OVERHEAD AT AROUND 200-300 FEET. YOU CAN ONLY HEAR IT FROM INSIDE THE CAB. I SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THIS DURING THE TEST DRIVE, EXCEPT THAT THE RADIO WAS ON AND THERE WERE NO TIGHT STEERING SITUATIONS. I WAS TOLD THAT BOTH OF THESE ITEMS ARE NORMAL BY THE GMC DEALER. A SECOND MICHELIN LATITUDE TOUR TIRE ON 2013 GMC TERRAIN (PURCHASED NEW IN MAY 2013) HAD REPETITIVE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SHOWING ON THE TPMS. AFTER 1 WEEK OF INFLATING TO SPEC PRESSURE AND ONLY HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN, REMOVED THE WHEEL AND TIRE TO INSPECT FOR AN EMBEDDED OBJECT (E.G. NAIL) IN THE ENTIRE TREAD AREA AND SIDEWALL. NOTHING VISIBLE. REPLACED AND INFLATED TO SPEC AGAIN. 2 DAYS LATER LOW PRESSURE AGAIN. REMOVED THE WHEEL/TIRE FROM THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND MIXED A SOAP SOLUTION TO INSPECT THE TREAD AREA FOR A LEAK. AFTER THOROUGHLY INSPECTING THE ENTIRE TREAD AREA TWICE, NOTICED A SLOW LEAK BUBBLING ON THE SIDEWALL AT THE TREAD-SIDEWALL INTERFACE (TIRE MOLD SEAM?). PROBED THE LEAK SITE FOR EMBEDDED GLASS OR OBJECT AND FOUND NOTHING REPRESENTATIVE OF A ROAD HAZARD EVENT EXCEPT THE AIR LEAK IN THE SIDEWALL. PLUGGED THE LEAK WITH A TIRE PLUG TO SHOW LOCATION AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. A TIRE WITH LEAK IN THE SIDEWALL EVEN PLUGGED IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON. I AM WAITING FOR A NEW TIRE. *TR
