The oil is depleting every month from the vehicle. Every 2-3 weeks I have to put oil in the vehicle because the oil is being absorbed. Is there a recall on this problem.

The contact's uncle owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving 34-35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road and allowed the vehicle to cool down. The contact drove to the residence under 15 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the variable valve timing chain was bent, and the dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I have excessive oil consumption. I noticed the issue after getting my 3000-mile oil change. The technician said I only had 1 quart of oil, which I thought was extremely low. Every 2000 miles, my oil dipstick reports abnormally low oil levels. I am concerned that when I go on an extended road trip, I will have engine issues that will leave me and my family stranded on the side of the road. The GM technician started tracking my oil consumption. He said he was doing that to prove to GM that they owe me a new engine. I didn't understand what he meant until I saw a lawsuit my vehicle was part of.

I was driving while it was raining. The wipers stopped working. The driverside wiper jumped partially off the windshield. I had my mechanic inspect it. The fuses, relay, and wiper motor are operational. The bushing on the wiper transmission failed. I found the following recall. Special Coverage Adjustment N192266181 Wiper Transmission Arm Linkage Failure – USA Only Release Date: July 2022. However, my VIN does not have this as an applicable recall.

Ball joint for wiper assembly just "pops off" while in use causing wipers to stop working. I have taken vehicle apart, fixed the issue ( reconnecting the ball joint) and issue happens again. I understand the vehicle is from 2012, but uses same part 2010-2017, which is currently a recall on 2013-2015 models. First occurrence of this issue was July 02, 2019. I brought to GMC dealer, they said they were out of the part. Since then I've not had the issue until today March 14, 2023 where I almost hit another car, due to it popping off and stopped working while in motion.

My lift gate has been failing since i bought it used from a local dealership. It's closed down on my mom's leg when she was situating luggage that she'd put in. It has tried closing on myself as well each time i opened it(4×) & when I tried to stop it by pushing up on it, it only forces itself down not up. This is very dangerous & had an old recall from GM motors due to the struts in the lift gate was faulty & made by stabilize whom had numerous lawsuits from other manufacturers due to injuries & deaths. The dealership refuses to fix it for free even though they knew the issue with it cause it was brought to their attention by their detail guy whom had it close on him as well. This a is major issue that needs addressed asap. And not at the expense of the owners but the manufacturers & dealerships that knowingly sell these autos that can be dangerous.

Drive side frame is rotted out which has allowed rear driver side control arm for the wheel to freely move. The passenger side is completely fine. Contacted gm and was told it has to be taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. It’s easy to see the issue I have pictures that can be provided. This car should not be rotted out frame was perfect 8 years ago with no rust and has been washed twice a week during winter to remove salt with undercarriage car wash.

The rear tailgate on a 2012 GMC Terrain has auto lift and close. The tailgate opens, but wont stay open then closes hitting you in the head. The heavy tailgate comes down hitting you in the head, and it takes a lot to hold the gate up. I called the dealer who said it could be the power lift. He said there was a previous recall to fix the same issue, but that part is not holding. I spoke with the dealer and found issued on line. No warning lamps or messages appeared.

MASSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION!! Ever si Fr the purchase of the vehicle there has been massive oil consumption leak. Taken back to the dealer for service to take care of the problem, they claim they don’t see a problem! This car has been oil leaking and also draining oil somewhere to the engine causing also power rain engine issues and also contact oil light on. Reported to GMC as well and corporate, no response! This vehicle has cut off and lost power because of oil consumption on highway with my children in the car! I have been emailing with no avail! This matter needs to be rectified immediately! It is a death trap!

MY SERVICE BAG LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY SAID MY YEAR IS NOT IN THE RECALL LIST. THEY ALSO SAID NONE OF THE AIR BAGS WILL WORK UNTIL IT GETS FIXED. I AM LIVING ON A LIMITED INCOME AND CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THE AIR BAGS. My vehicle is 2012 GMC Terrain. Oil changes on my vehicle we kept up and i had no major issues with this vehicle. I had an oil change done about a month before i went to start my car and all the lights came on and my car would rumble and wouldn't stay started and was longer drivable. After towing it a service shop they stated the following: The timing chains are damaged, skipped teeth, metal debris found in oil and screen of intake and exhaust camshaft solenoids due to many oil leaks coming form engine and serious internal issues w/engine we recommend replacing the engine. Est cost, 11,061. I had no reason to think my car was in any trouble, as it was driving fine with no problems. I received no such recall letter or phone call and no mention from the dealership i bought the car from back in 2018 that this was an issue or that it was "taken care of" if I had i wouldn't have paid over $20,000. into my car. Reading several complaints online about this exact issue is all new to me. Knowing i could have been driving a vehicle and it could have started a fire in my engine is crazy to think. Because I may have been driving a car with a serious recall on it. I am at a loss right now, financially i am screwed.

The timing chain is failing on my 2012 GMC Terrain. It’s dangerous to drive and it started without warning (to me). It’s my understanding that this is a common problem with this year and model GMC vehicle as many owners are complaining about the same issue. Will GMC be notified so they can remedy this situation? The display screen of GPS/Radio is blackout combined intermittent control button illuminating light went off( include emergency, A/C control), backup camera stopped working, turning signal lost click sound. Safety concern: 1. Emergency and A/C control buttons lost illuminating light(Causing night driving difficult.). 2. AC vent the temperature control lost visual status cause distraction of normal driving. 3. Lost Backup camera function which is supposed to be an assisted safety feature. 4. Lost turning signal click sound which leads to missing alert of turning signal malfunction. 5. Complete audio loss create unsafe for long trip driving. 6. GM doesn't provide genuine replacement part. This problem started from 2018 till now. I've contacted GM with no meaningful resolution. I visited the dealer and the only thing they could do is replace non guaranteed refurbished head unit with hefty price. I did some research online and found there are a lot of same problems happened to this vehicle and similar models of GM. After driving this vehicle for several years without incurring any accident, I realized that the losses of the some vital control functions and safety alert are actually very serious concerns and should be addressed and resolved by GM.

THE DEFROSTER WILL NOT SWITCH AIR FLOW TO VENT. THIS CAUSES THE ENTIRE CAR TO FOG UP CONSTANTLY ESPECIALLY THE WINDSHIELD DURING RAIN OR HUMID WEATHER. THIS OBSTRUCTS VIEW AND CREATES A LIFE THREATENING HAZARD. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING CONSTANTLY ON HIGHWAY I SIDE STREET.

IN MAY 2018 MY REAR CAMERA AND BACKUP LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER, THE DEALER TOL ME THAT THE REAR CAMERA WAS BAD AND IT WAS TIED TO THE BACK UP LIGHTS. THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT FOR FREE. I WAS CHARGED $175 DOLLARS TO DISCONNECT THE CAMERA. THE CAMERA SHOULD BE LINKED TO THE BACKUP LIGHTS WHEN IT MALFUNCTIONS. I ALMOST HIT A PERSON BECAUSE THE BACKUP LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN ON THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT. SUNRISE CHEVY SHOULD NOT HAVE CHARGED ME FOR THIS PROBLEM.

TOOK MY 2012 TERRAIN IN FOR THE EXCESSIVE OIL BURN IN MAY 2017. SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER IT WAS DUE TO THE OIL BEING LOW DUE TO BURN WITHIN 1000 MILES OF CHANGE. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER GETTING IT BACK IT STARTED RANDOMLY NOT STARTING. I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS THAT I LEFT THE DOME LIGHTS ON. THEN IT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I USED MY BACK GATE, THEN RANDOMLY AFTER OPENING ANY DOOR BUT THE DRIVERS WHEN THE CAR WAS NOT ON. EVERYTHING WAS WORKING BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. IT WAS ALL RANDOM. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT READ GAS CAP, SO I CHANGED THAT AS I WAS TOLD THAT COULD CAUSE THE CAR NOT TO START. IT DIDN'T HELP AND IT RESUMED NOT STARTING WITHIN DAYS. SO I HAVE BEEN STARTING CAR TO OPEN ANY OTHER DOORS AND REDUCED TO NO DOME LIGHTS AT NIGHT. LAST NIGHT, IT WOULDN'T' START AFTER SIMPLY BACKING MY CAR INTO A DIFFERENT SPOT IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAD IT JUMPED AND THEN THE CENT CONSOLE WAS COMPLETELY BLACKED OUT. I COULD CHANGE THE STATIONS AND CHANGE THE HEAT BUT NO LIGHTS. GOT BACK HOME AFTER DRIVING IT TO CHARGE BATTERY AND THE RADIO WOULDN'T SHUT OFF EVEN AFTER REMOVING KEY AND LOCKING. I TRIED BOTH FOBS, AND IT WOULDN'T SHUT DOWN. I SHUT THE RADIO OFF, AND THEN IT SEEMED TO HAVE WORKED BECAUSE THE SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON AND I DIDN'T SEE ANY LIGHTS INSIDE. THIS MORNING THE CAR WAS DEAD. MORE THAN USUAL, I COULDN'T EVEN UNLOCK IT EXCEPT WITH KEY. I TRIED TO START, NO CLICK AND THEN IT LOCKED MY KEYS INTO THE IGNITION. WE JUMPED IT AND I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER. I HAVE TO DRIVE FOR MY JOB AND RIGHT NOW I AM SCARED SOMETHING IT GOING TO STOP WORKING LIKE THE LIGHTS OR ENGINE AND I WILL BE HURT OR KILLED OR HURT SOMEONE ELSE. VERY SCARY.

MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND I WERE PARKED OUTSIDE A GROCERY STORE. WE CAME OUT WITH SEVERAL BAGS AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER OPENED THE BACK LIFT GATE. IT WENT UP AND THEN CAME BACK DOWN AGAIN. IT DIDN'T STAY UP. I TRIED TO OPEN IT AGAIN WITH MY KEY AND IT DID THE SAME THING. WENT UP, HESITATED AND CAME BACK DOWN AGAIN. I STOPPED OPENING THE GATE AND PUT BAGS INSIDE. I TOOK HER HOME THEN DROVE HOME MYSELF. I SHOWED MY HUSBAND WHAT THE BACK GATE WAS DOING. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER I BOUGHT MY TERRAIN FROM LAST YEAR (FEBRUARY 2017) AND GOT APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE TODAY. THE FORD SERVICE CALLED THE CHEVROLET SERVICE AND REFERRED ME TO THEM FOR SERVICE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER WHO CHECKED IF MY CAR WAS ON ANY RECALL, SHE SAID THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS, BUT WE BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH MAY COVER THE COSTS. HOWEVER, I HAVE TO PAY THE FIRST $200 OF ANY SERVICE REPAIRS. I DON'T BELIEVE THE BACK GATE SHOULD STOP WORKING WHEN THE REST OF MY CAR WORKS FINE. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO GET HELP TO REPAIR MY CAR'S BACK GATE?

MY DASH IS CRACKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT'S TO A POINT NOW OF NEEDING REPLACED AND HAS RAISED MY SAFETY CONCERN FOR MYSELF AND PASSENGER IF I WAS TO COME INVOLVED IN A CRASH BY BROKEN LARGE PLASTIC FRAGMENTS.

Evap emission control leak detected As the check engine light comes on, when hooking a computer up to the car for a scan it pulls a code stating there is an evap leak. The gas cap has been replaced along with a sensor and no gas is seen leaking but you can smell gas vapors when the car is running and fuel mileage is terrible. Also the stabilitrak has been an underlying issue since owning the vehicle

Took vehicle into dealer for a recall on October 17, 2023 with the recall being [Primary]: RECALL : C/S: N192268181 -TAILPIPE EMISSIONS - EXHAUST COMPONENTS: C/S: N192268181 -TAILPIPE EMISSIONS - EXHAUST COMPONENTS. The dealership did an excellent job on the work providing a video to show work being done. Now this month of April, I received another check engine light stating the P0013 code stands for “Exhaust “B” Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit/Open (Bank 1).” There is not a recall from the manufacturer but according to dealership they've received a bulletin in regards to this issue. According to the dealership it will cost in excess of $500 to repair. Absolutely not true. There are a thousand videos on what causes this and even how to repair it from the same mechanics that work within these dealerships. This issue is a safety issue because if not repaired it causes damage to your engine. This code lets you know that you will start experiencing loss of power, trouble starting your vehicle, the stalling/picking up speed all at the same time. Some of these issues have been caused from the issue of the oil consumption problem associated with the Terrain's.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO A FRIENDS HOUSE. SHE LOST ALL POWER, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START BACK UP. THERE WAS 3/4 TANK OF GAS IN IT. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A NEARBY SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. UPON THE VEHICLE LEAVING IT HAD A LOT OF GAS ON THE GRAVEL ROAD. WHEN IT MADE IT TO THE SHOP THERE WAS OBVIOUS FUEL LINE ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET, STILL WAITING ON A REPLACEMENT LINE FROM A DEALERSHIP. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT GM SHOULD HAVE HAD RECALLED AND FIXED IMMEDIATELY. THIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED DUE TO IT STILL UNDER A MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY, BUT I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THAT. AFTER STOPPING AT MAILBOX THE LOW FUEL ILLUMINATED, THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED EMPTY. THE TANK WAS HALF FULL PRIOR TO THE 12 MILE TRIP HOME FROM TOWN. NOT SURE WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED, BECAUSE IT MIGHT HAVE TAKEN A FEW MINUTES TO PUMP OUT 8 OR 9 GALLONS OF GAS, HOWEVER IT WAS ON THIS12 MILE TRIP HOME. 6 MILES OF HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH AND 5 MILES OF PAVED COUNTY ROAD AT 30 MPH AND 1 MILE OF GRAVEL ROAD AT 20 MPH. AFTER THE LOW FUEL INDICATION THE ENGINE WAS STOPPED, FUEL WAS ADDED FROM A CONTAINER, AND WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED THE FUEL STREAMED OUT ON THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY, BECAUSE IT WAS CLOSER THAN THE DEALER. GAS LINE AND CLAMP WERE REPLACED. I have a problem with the Headlights they are yellow and there is no way I have found to clean them. It makes it hard to get a bright view at night especially when travelling on secondary streets with low or limited lightning. I have also noticed that a lot GMC Terrains have the same issue. Is there are will there be a recall on my 2012 GMC Terrain it does create a very dangerous situation especially at night. I no longer like to drive at night because of this problem, the coatings on the lights makes the night vision awful. Thank you for reading. You can send me a reply.

When I stop at the light my car shake and rocks, then the car goes into limp mode. Where the stabilitrack comes on and the engine goes into reduced mode. And I can't go over 30mps. When this happened on the freeway is the most dangerous and scary feeling ever. I've got So many new parts and put over 3,000 into the car and it still has this issue. I've been do several different mechanics and nobody can figure out what's wrong. Gm needs to look into this, it's so many forums going on for this issue.

hello i'm writing this letter to inform you about my 2012 Terrian i have had nothing but problems with the motor and now the muffler system i have had all recalls done on this and GM is well aware of this problem i have a dealer ship to replace the timing in this motor and still uses oil and still have all the problems after the recalls have been fixed now they want me to pay over $3,000 to have new catalytic converters fixed on it now after paying $2800 for a new timing seems to me GM likes to fix the cheap stuff on these cars and make customers pay for the expensive parts must people can't afford this and junk the vehicle i will not i'm going to fight for what is right the dealer ship even told me when i took it back in to see what the code was for that GM is well aware of it and not worth putting the money into the car this is not right for customers to spend this kind of money GM needs to handle this.

AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55 MPH HOUR MY SUV BEGAN TO SHAKE EXTREMELY AND WAS THROTTLING AT VERY HIGH RPM'S AND THE SUV THRASH TO SUDDEN HALT AND CONTINUED TO SHAKE AND IDLE VERY HIGH AND LOUD. I TRIED TO HIT THE GAS TO GET MYSELF OFF THE ROAD AS I WAS ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR, AND THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE RPM'S SPIKED BUT I WENT NOT MORE THAN 15 MPH, AT THE SAME TIME THE FOLLOWING ERRORS APPEARED ON MY SCREEN: 1) SERVICE STABAILI TRAK 2) ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED SLOWLY I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET THE CAR UP TO 35 MPH AND GET US HOME SAFE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SEEMS THAT THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH GMC SO I CONTACTED GMC AND WAS BASICALLY GIVEN THE RUNAROUND. I TOOK THE CAR TO A GMC DEAR TODAY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP THAT NEEDED REPLACED.....

Once again, timing chain incident, this time while driving, wasn't expecting it, suddenly my Terrain steering when became stiff to turn, and happened to realize the car motor had shut off and rolling to the right, nearly hitting parked car. I tried to start vehicle, but made a whining sound, but did not start, yet check engine light was on. I had my OBD reader handy, and got p0011, p0017 codes, which tell me it was the timing chain again in this car. This very dangerous because we could of collided with a parked vehicle, if not for me struggling so hard to steer vehicle while steering wheel was stiff.

I CALLED FOR SOMEONE TO CHECK THE VEHICLE OUT AND HE ARRIVED CALLED SOMEONE TO CHECK THE VEHICLE AND HE ACTUALLY TOLD ME IT SEEMS TO BE THE MOTOR GONE BAD BUT HE ASKED WOULD I DRIVE IT BACK HOME IF HE FOLLOWED BEHIND. IT LITERALLY SCARED ME AND MY 4 CHILDREN TO DEATH WHEN IT SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION WITH THAT KIND OF SPEED SO I DON'T TRUST PUTTING MY CHILDREN IN IT NOW. I DON'T THINK ITS SAFE AT ALL. THE VEHICLE I ONCE THOUGHT WAS PERFECT FOR MY FAMILY IS TURNING OUT TO BE A NIGHTMARE.

TAKATA RECALL MY CAR HAS BEEN THROWING A ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND SERVICE STABIL TRAK LIGHT. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP FIVE TIMES NOW, AFTER REPLACING A COOLANT SENSOR WHICH IS A CODE IT THROUGH, IT HAS THROWN THREE PEDAL SENSORS, AFTER REPLACING IT THE FIRST TIME THE MECHANIC PLACE TOLD ME THE PEDAL WAS BAD, SENT IT BACK REPLACED IT AGAIN AND THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE BEGINNING OF MAY AND STILL NOT RESOLVED. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE POST ABOUT THIS ON THEIR TERRAINS.

1. The engine suddenly lost power while driving during evening rush hour and the vehicle would no longer accelerate. 2. Because the vehicle could not maintain speed, I was unable to keep up with traffic, creating a serious safety hazard that could have resulted in a major accident. 3. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent service center for diagnosis. 4. During the incident, the “Engine Power Reduced” warning indicator illuminated just before the loss of power occurred. 5. As the vehicle slowed and came to a complete stop at an intersection, it remained unresponsive. When the traffic light turned green, the vehicle would not accelerate at all.

ENGINE IS VERY ROUGH AND RATTLES WHILE STARTING TO ACCELERATE AND ACCELERATING. WHEN BRAKES ARE PUSHED THE CAR STARTS TO TURN OFF WHILE IN MOTION. First off before I got the car it had gone through a tune up. About a couple months after I got the car little things started to happen it would rock back and forth while idling I thought it was kind of an indicator that it needed oil but the percentage was still at a decent range and telling me it didn't need oil plus I hadent driven it 3000-5000 miles. Then engine light came on had it inspected codes ran came back telling me something about Throttle body So I purchased a whole new throttle body in Prosser at dealership costing me some booko buks and swapped it out when I got back home I then took it for test drive along with my 4 kids in the vehicle with me and then a little ways about 20 mins driving engine power reduced light came on along with stabilitrak and eventually lost power I was stranded in the middle of summer in the middle of nowhere with my kids windows rolled down ppl drove by and asked if I needed help and eventually came back with jumper cables tried to jump me but the car wouldn't budge I then left the car there overnight and took battery out to have it inspected the next day IT WAS FRIED (over 4 yrs old) so I had to purchase a new one costing me roughly 150 buks then took it back to where my car was stranded put it in and alarm went off and I clicked the button on key ring stuck it in ignition shit the door behind me locking keys in car while vehicle was still running and had to bust a window out to get to em. Got into car drove off made it back to my apt left it running outside while I went inside to get some stuff before I THOUGHT the problem was solved it shut off again.....I then had to replace the alternator costing me another pretty penny....about a couple weeks later I was starting a new job at a assisted living facility and arrived 10 mins early shit car off a noticed smoke coming from under hood I was confused because where the smoke was coming from couldn't have been it overheating I popped the hood and my car was on fire!!!!

I still have more to add to my other complaint. The fire started with alternator apparently there were crossed wires took alternator back to Orielys where I got it warrented out fixed the expanded wiring and replaced a hose and other things damaged by the little fire. Then after that things kept getting worse. Then it was spark plugs that were rusted that I replaced eventually I complained back to the dealership I got the car from and they agreed to help repair it after a posting by me on fb that I wasent a happy customer basically and that I literally had a sitting duck. Turns out the timing chain needed to be replaced and other little things. I've replaced O2 sensors camshaft sensors gaskets in catalytic converter had it inspected thinking it was a clogged exhaust the excessive oil usage was insane I would be going through 5quarts twice a month! I'm just tryna have a DECENT WORKING VEHICLE for my kids and I. I literally can't keep a job because I DONT HAVE RELIABLE transportation....I've put sooooo much money into this vehicle and now I might have a blown gasket!!! And that's because I haven't even been driving the vehicle. I got the car on Jan 7th 2021 with 129,043 miles on it as of today it has a total of 164,627 miles on it meaning in between the two years that I've owned the vehicle I have only put a total of 35,584 miles on it.....for it to have this many problems for so little mileage is INSANE!!! my kids were in the car with me today when the car started smoking like crazy from under hood and exhaust I pulled over turned the car off and took my baby off car seat in all and got away from vehicle thinking it was on fire again. I popped the hood and notice it was coming from under manifold.....meaning its probly a blown gasket after I just replaced the camshaft sensor AGAIN......it's ridiculous all the stuff thats going wrong with this vehicle with so little mileage that's been put on it.

The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. AAA arrived at the contact's residence and replaced the battery. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the plugs and other unknown parts were replaced however, the failure recurred. The contact replaced the battery twice. The contact also stated that the passenger's side headlamp had failed. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V137000 (Exterior Lighting) which he associated to the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

THE LOW BEAM H11 BULB IS CAUSING THE (MALE/FEMALE PLUG IN) FOR THIS COMPONENT TO OVERHEAT CAUSING THE PLASTIC TO BECOME CHARRED, PARTIALLY MELTED AND BRITTLE IN WHICH THE LOW BEAM LIGHT STOPS WORKING DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THE WIRING IS BECOMING SOFT AT THE PLUG IN CONNECTION FROM THIS HEAT AND ALLOWING THE PROTECTIVE WIRE INSULATION TO BE MELTED PERMITTING THE BARE WIRE TO BE VISIBLE WHICH COULD PRODUCE A FIRE HAZARD AT THIS LOCATION. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON THE RIGHT SIDE TWICE AND ON THE LEFT SIDE ONCE. IN ALL THREE CASES, THE BULBS WITH THE FEMALE PLUG IN AND THE MALE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION HAS BEEN REPLACE. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 28755 MILES ON IT. JUST NOTICED THE LOW BEAM LIGHT ON RIGHT SIDE NOT WORKING AGAIN TODAY. REPLACED THIS SIDE WITHIN THE LAST 9 MONTHS.

PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE REVVED AND ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT NOTED THAT PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE, BOTH WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE DEFECTIVE DUE TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION. BOTH WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE REPLACED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND WAS SERVICED FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE CAMSHAFT. AFTER GETTING MY GMC TERRAIN BACK I NOTICED THAT ON OCCASION THE RPM WOULD SHOOT UP WHILE DRIVING AND THEN CRASH BACK DOWN CAUSING ALMOST A JERKING MOTION (IT HAS HAPPENED IN ALL TYPES OF SCENARIOS I.E. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, BACK ROADS (ALL WHILE AT A STEADY SPEED) AND THEN FINALLY YESTERDAY 3/5/2016 WHILE BREAKING AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN.) NOW THIS MORNING (3/6/2016) I WENT OUT TO START MY CAR AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT TURNED OVER THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A VERY LOUD NOISE THAT I CAN ONLY DESCRIBE AS THE SOUND OF AN AIRPLANE ENGINE WITH A LIGHT KNOCKING SOUND. ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2013, I JOINED THE INNUMERABLE OWNERS OF GM PRODUCTS (FOUND ON THE VARIOUS OWNER FORUMS ON THE INTERNET) THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SERVICE STABILITRAK LIGHT COMING ON WITH ROUGH IDLING. OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPRESSED THE LOSS OF POWER WHEN THIS EVENT OCCURS. GMC Consumer Relations Subject: Structural Undercarriage Safety Defect – 2012 GMC Terrain SLE Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2012 GMC Terrain SLE VIN: [XXX] Mileage at Purchase: 148,305 Date of Purchase: [XXX] Location: Rochester, New York I am filing a complaint regarding a severe undercarriage safety defect in my 2012 GMC Terrain SLE. The rear undercarriage of this vehicle shows heavy structural corrosion on suspension brackets and mounts. The condition produces clanging noises during normal driving, and an independent licensed mechanic has refused to work on the vehicle because the suspension integrity is unsafe. When I returned the vehicle to the dealer, I observed additional brackets being attached under the rear subframe area, suggesting reinforcement of compromised structural points. This confirms that the corrosion directly affects suspension geometry, alignment, and stability. This corrosion is not cosmetic. It is advanced structural deterioration affecting the mounting points for trailing arms and lateral links. These components are critical to safe turning, stability, and control. The corrosion compromises the ability of the suspension to keep the wheels aligned, creating serious risks of loss of control or wheel separation. What makes this more alarming is that the vehicle passed a New York State safety inspection on 07/13/2025, yet within days a mechanic refused to perform unrelated service because of the undercarriage condition. The contact stated that the display screen went blank, and due to the failure, the vehicle bumped another vehicle that was also reversing. There was no warning light illuminated. My 4 cyl. AWD GMC Terrain has had excessive oil use which caused premature failure of the timing chain, loss of power/compression, blown engine, damage to exhaust manifold, cellinoids, and melted the catalytic converter. Its was a road safety, poor emissions due to failed catalytic converter. Headlights are too bright for oncoming traffic at night. Another road & safety hazard. Auto warranty is refusing to cover parts listed above caused by the timing chain and excessive oil consumption problems.

The check emissions light for the engine light came up on the dashboard. Without prior warning or other signs the vehicle lost engine power in the middle of the road. The entire electrical power and engine stopped working and the brakes jammed. This causes the vehicle to become unstoppable in the middle of the road causing a safety hazard to the vehicle, driver, passengers and fellow vehicles on the road. The only way to stop the vehicle is somehow use the gears to shift to parking position, turn the engine again on and try to remove the vehicle from the middle of the road.

The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled at various speeds, and now was stalling while accelerating. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who linked the failure to excessive oil consumption. The fuel pump was replaced and oil was added. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred the following morning. The check engine and oil service warning lights were illuminated. The oil level was low. The contact stated that the oil was changed almost every 3-months. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The vehicle had not yet been taken back to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 75,000.

We received a notice in the mail regarding our vehicle with our VIN #. And it mentioned our particular size engine had a recall for potential emissions part condition of degraded catalytic converter and/or oxygen sensors caused by excessive engine oil consumption affecting some vehicle from our year, make, and model. We were surprised to receive this notice because we always park in reverse and we had noticed how it was turning the curb side black coming from the tail pipe. We did receive one other notice before and took it to the dealership to have it maintenance but my honest opinion I do believe they did anything to our vehicle because it was running the same and also took it to Midas after taking it to the dealership because it ran the same. Anyhow I hope upon receiving this other notice we can actually maybe get reimbursed and actually get it fixed finally.

I am having trouble with these things now. The powertrain especially I have not had accident yet but it keeps going dead on me in the middle of driving down road. Causing me to have to put in neutral and restart. At this time the steering goes out. This needs to be repaired before an accident does happen. The drivers seat does not move forward or backwards. The tire pressure warning does not warn until it is at 20 psi.

Over the past couple years I have become worried to even drive this vehicle. Well Taken care of and maintenance completed regularly. This vehicle has been in the shop 7 times in the past couple years but no one can tell me exactly what is going on. Only 1 place has told me that I need extensive electrical work but couldn't tell me what exactly the problem was. Issue #1: When coming to a stop, and/or idle, the engine seems to give up and vehicle shuts off. Issue #2: When started Engine sounds like a.high pitch raddle. Issue #3: Occasionally, while driving on the interstate going around 60 - 65 mph the electrical inside the vehicle will flash and everything shuts off and the emergency brake is applied automatically. This has become dangerous - if I wasn't wearing a seatbelt I could have been thrown through the windshield. Issue #4: Replace Fuel Cap Sensor comes on even though it's been replaced. Issue #5: Engine Power Reduced notification comes on even though it had a new battery and alternator. Issue #6: Occasionally Speakers sound blown and you can hear a buzzing as you accelerate. Issue #7: Stabili Track, ABS, and TPMS Sensors all come on at once and go away at once atleast 4 times a week. Issue #7: Rear Cam doesn't always work, sometime either black or static looking. Issue #8: Sometimes key sticks in ignitiin and will not turn on unless being jumped by another vehicle. Issue #9: Often upon starting the whole dash goes black and will stay that way for several hours then comes back on. I've checked all fuses and multiple mechanics can't figure it out. As time goes by without repair I'm scared to even drive this vehicle. Why can't someone figure this out!!

ON FEB 10, 2020 I WAS INVOLVED IN A SIDE IMPACT CRASH WHEN A LARGE TRUCK FAILED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS AS THE FRONT QUARTER PANEL AND WHEEL WERE DAMAGED. THE COLLISION SHOP CALLED TODAY AND STATED THAT ALL FOUR OF MY IMPACT SENSORS ARE "DEAD". HE SAID I WAS VERY LUCKY BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD'VE KNOWN THAT MY AIRBAGS WOULDN'T HAVE DEPLOYED AND I VERY LIKELY WOULD'VE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH, AND NO CODE. THEY FOUND IT BY ACCIDENT ON A MORE INTENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC. MY 2012 GMC TERRAIN 2.4L IS HAVING AN ISSUE WITH EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. I AM CONSTANTLY HAVING TO CHECK MY OIL AND IT GETS TO 1 QT OR MORE LOW BETWEEN MY 5K OIL CHANGES. I'VE SEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS WITH THIS. BECAUSE OF THIS I HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON INDICATING MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER MAY BE BAD. IVE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS. I EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH MY GMC TERRAIN. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER (DORAL GMC, IN MIAMI, FL) ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITH NO RESPONSE. I HAVE SUBMITTED A WRITTEN COMPLAINT TO GMC ON APRIL 10TH, 2012 AND NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY. I'VE EXPERIENCED CONTINUOUS CAR PROBLEMS SINCE THE PURCHASE OF MY VEHICLE. WITHIN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF PURCHASE MY CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN KEPT AT THE DEALER FOR 30 DAYS ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. VEHICLE PROBLEMS WERE, FOR EXAMPLE; THE AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT TURNED ON, CAR TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, THIS ISSUE WAS TAKEN CARE OF BUT RETURNED SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE IT CORRECTED AS IT KEPT HAPPENING. THE VEHICLE ALSO EXPERIENCED TRANSMISSION ISSUES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO KEPT TURNING ON AND SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULDN'T FIGURE ANYTHING OUT WITH MY VEHICLE.THIS WAS MY FIRST GMC PURCHASE AND IT HAS BEEN MY ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH ANY AMERICAN CAR COMPANY. THE LATEST ISSUE SINCE DECEMBER OF 2017 HAS BEEN THE AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT ONCE AGAIN AND THE STABILITY TRACK LIGHT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ONCE AGAIN AND I WAS CHARGED FOR DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE SO THAT THE ISSUE COULD BE FOUND FOR EACH ISSUE AND WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $135.00 PER ISSUE. I ONLY PAID FOR THE AIRBAG ISSUE SINCE IT SEEMED TO BE THE MOST DANGEROUS ONE AND WAS TOLD BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE MODULE KIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS NEW CHARGE WAS $ 823.90 THAT I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE A FACTORY ONE AND I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I'VE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT AND HAVE KEPT IT SERVICED AND WELL MAINTAINED AT THE DEALER THROUGH OUT ALL THE RECALLS AND SERVICE PROBLEMS. I ALSO BEGAN NOTICING AN EXTREMELY STRONG ODOR NECESSITATING LOWERING WINDOWS TO BREATHE. I NOTIFIED MY DEALERSHIP AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSIS THE VERY NEXT MORNING WITHOUT DRIVING IT AFTER ARRIVING TO MY GARAGE. I WAS TOLD THE AWD HAD COMPLETELY DETERIORATED. MY CONCERN WAS THAT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY DASHBOARD NOTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM, NOT DID MY ONSTAR DIAGNOSIS INDICATE A PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN QUITE DISTURBED THAT THE VEHICLE BECAME DISABLED BEFORE I WAS AWARE OF ANY PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AT MY GMC DEALERSHIP AND WOULD LIKE AN EXPLANATION REGARDING THE FAILURE TO IDENTIFY THIS PROBLEM THROUGH THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE CHECKS. I DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK ON THE PROBLEM ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2018. I CALLED THE GMC COMPLAINT CENTER TO CHECK ON POSSIBLE RECALLS OR ANY REMAINING WARRANTIES THAT MIGHT APPLY AND I WAS TOLD THE CENTER WAS ASSIGNING A SR. ADVISOR TO CONTACT THE LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP THAT STILL HAS MY CAR AND THE ADVISOR WAS TOLD THE DEALERSHIP NEEDED MORE TIME TO DIAGNOSE AND ASSESS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.I HAVE HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE SINCE IT MAY BE ANOTHER 2-3 DAYS BEFORE I EVEN GET A RESPONSE REGARDING THE NATURE AND COST OF THE REPAIRS. I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD THE ENTIRE AWD SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1500--$2000. I QUESTIONED THE REASON FOR THE EXTREME MALFUNCTION WITHOUT ANY WARNING NOTICES APPEARING...MAIN REASON FOR MY COMPLAINT AND CONCERN.

VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 50,000 MILES, WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. COMPUTER DID NOT SHOW WHAT PROBLEM WAS. CAR WOULD CUT OFF IN DRIVE IN IDLE. CAR WOULD SHAKE. MECHANICS PUT IN NEW PARTS AND BATTERY FOR MORE THAN $1200. STILL WAS NOT FIXED. MECHANIC WENT TO A DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE IF THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM. AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT MANY OF THE PARTS THAT WOULD CAUSE THE PROBLEM WERE ON RECALL. GM HAD NOT POSTED THESE RECALLS OR NOTIFIED ME, THE OWNER. AFTER INSPECTING THE CAR THEY SAID THERE WAS TOO MUCH WRONG TO REPAIR AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID I WOULD NEED TO DRIVE 2000 MILES TO CHECK OIL CONSUMPTION. THEY NEVER MADE US AWARE THERE MAY BE PROBLEM WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION. I AM 68 YRS OLD AND WALK WITH A WALKER. I AM IN THE HOSPITAL OFTEN. THE MECHANICS SAID THEY WOULD DRIVE THE CAR AS MUCH AS THEY THOUGHT NECESSARY TO DETERMINE OIL CONSUMPTION. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN CHARLOTTE NC THE CAR STARTED SMOKING AND CAUGHT FIRE. THE DRIVER FORCED HIS WAY OUT BUT HAD THAT BEEN ME, I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE DIED DUE TO MY HANDICAP. I HAVE NOW BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR OVER A MONTH. I HAVE CONTACTED GM BUT THEY ARE SLOW FOR ANY RESOLUTION. I ASKED FOR A LOANER VEHICLE BUT WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T DO THAT NOW.

I HAVE HAD TO AVOID MANY ACCIDENTS DUE TO PEOPLE DRIVING UP ON ME BECAUSE I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ACCELERATING AT THE TIME BUT MY CAR TURNED OFF. THE BATTERY WOULD DIE ON THIS CAR ON A WEEKLY BASIS WHICH CAUSED ME TO PURCHASE A BATTERY AND THERE IS STILL NO PROGRESS IN THE VEHICLE. ON 8/2/12 I PURCHASED MY GMC TERRAIN BRAND NEW IN ASHLAND CITY, TN. I MOVED TO WEST PALM BEACH IN OCTOBER 2012. THE CURRENT MILES ON THE VEHICLE ARE 44,039. I GOT AN OIL CHANGE, FILTER AND MULTI-POINT INSPECTION ON 10/24/13 BY THE LOCAL GMC DEALER. ON 10/23/13 I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO HAVE A RECALL REPAIRED AT SCHUMACHER BUICK/GMC. THE RECALL # IS 12312. A MONTH LATER THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE SHARPLY FORWARD WHILE DRIVING AND A HEAVY SHAKING VIBRATION (BOTH WHILE DRIVING AND AT A STOP) BELOW MY FEET IN THE VEHICLE (FLOOR BOARD). DRIVER'S FRONT END, FRONT END AND SPUN AROUND FROM THE FORCE AND HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED ?[XXX] WAS IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED BY ON STAR, THEY CALLED POLICE, HIS CAR WAS TOTALED ?ON 4/21 I EMAILED GMC AND ASKED WHAT DEPARTMENT I WOULD CONTACT TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE FRONT AND SIDE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING CALL FROM GMC 866-790-5700 EXT. 22745 SAID ON VOICE MAIL ?
