It has nothing to do with the headlights. I was told by a couple different technicians that there's an issue with there being a slow oil leak with the GMC Terrains causing the motor/engine to lock up. I get my oil changed religiously! I even have files/reports showing so. It was NOT time for an oil change and my motor locked up. I still have 3 years to pay on my vehicle and it's my primary ride. So after having it towed 4 times...I have to get it towed 1 more time back to the shop to get a used motor/engine installed for $6700 (that's what they estimated me). On top of not having a vehicle for 3 months and making payments on top of it.

I was driving my suv while it was raining heavily and my driver side wipers just stop working out of no where the passenger side still operates. I have not been to see if a dealer can fix it because I was unaware it was under recall so now I’m trying to find someone to fix it while under the recall.

The windshield wipers suddenly stopped working when it was raining really hard last week. This caused me to almost get into a car accident because I could not see the road with all the rain. I had to stop on the side of the road until the rain stopped, which took a while. This occurred on a road where there were not many street lights, which made it even worse to see ahead. I took the vehicle to the nearest GMC dealership for diagnostics and they were not able to provide the service to repair/replace the wipers because of the recall not being complete. I currently can't drive the car when it is raining which is difficult since this is my only mode of transportation for work.

I WAS OUT OF TOWN AND HAD GONE TO THE STORE AND WHEN I GOT BACK IN MY VEHICLE AND IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER, LETTING IT SIT FOR 4 HOURS IT FINALLY CRANKED UP. THE BATTERY AND FUSES WERE FINE. NO LIGHTS CAME IN ON MY DASH AS A WARNING THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS RUN AND IT THROWED OUT NO CODES.

WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD THE 'COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM' ACTIVATED WITH NO VEHICLES IN SIGHT EITHER IN FRONT OF ME OR IN THE OPPOSING LANE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES LATER. on line it said that this vehicle was having problems with the timing chain which could break when driving causing damage to motor or worse yet loss of control. I had it to garage and they said the ticking noise is the timing chain. Is gmc recalling the vehicles for this?

Car is burning oil excessively and the timing chain is loose putting the vehicle is reduced power mode. The timing chain was replaced at 40,000 miles and now it needs to be replaced again and the car only has 87,000 miles. I bought it with 70,000 miles on it. Someone needs to do a recall on these engines

MY 2014 TERRAIN STALLED OUT AT A STOP SIGN. I RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND WAS IT MADE A NOISE AS THOUGH SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH A BELT. I WENT AROUND THE BLOCK AND IT STALLED OUT 3 MORE TIMES. I BACKED IT INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED ALL OF THE OIL ON THE GROUND. I HAD THE TRUCK PUT ON A FLATBED AND TOWED TO THE DEALER. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE REAR MASTER SEAL BLEW. SOMEHOW, AS EXPLAINED TO ME, WATER GETS INTO THE ENGINE AND FREEZES. THIS CAUSES PRESSURE AND THAT IS THE CAUSE OF THE DAMAGE. MY TERRAIN TURNED 5 YRS OLD ON 11/21/19 WITH ONLY 50,249 MILES. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED A GM VEHICLE AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL NOW. THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER SINCE IT IS 5 YRS OLD AND I AM OUT $3,000 FOR REPAIRS. I have a 2014 GMC Terrain with less than 70k miles on the vehicle. I took the truck to the mechanic and was advised the power belts were no good. Why is this? The truck has no mileage on it basically for a 2014, I have a 2011 Chevy with more miles than this truck and its power belts are fine. The Mechanic also advised me within the last 3 years, his shop in Cecil County MD has changed over 125 Power Belts on the 2014 GMC Terrain AWD (V6), same vehicle that I have.

Have a 2014 GMC Terrain SLT AWD. Just rolled 81,000 miles. Heard some catching in what I thought was front left tire while turning right. Almost sounded like wire wrapped up. Looked under car didn’t see anything. Continued to drive and began to hear really loud grinding noise. Could smell the car getting hot. Get it to body shop and they have identified the transfer case was blown out for unknown reason. No fluid and gears are just walking around. Caught it before it locked up. Needs new transfer case, when we can even get one. Looking at about $2500 in repairs. Of course just out of extended warranty. This appears to be a common problem and needs to be addressed by GM!

I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2016. SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT IT THE CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEAL SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY REPLACED SOMETHING. THIS 'FIX' ONLY LASTED FOR A LITTLE WHILE. THE LIGHT COMES ON ALL THE TIME NOW. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE ME A FEE SINCE IT IS PAST THE WARRANTY. I took the car in for a recall regarding the headlights. The recall number is N222363740. The dealer placed a sticker. On the headlights, which now makes it hard to see at night this is my wife’s commuter car to work at the hospital. We live in a very rural area where the 2 lane roads are remote and very dark.my wife works from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm but with her commute she leaves at 5;30 am and returns home around 9:00 pm . This includes every single shift she works, so the bottom line is she leaves at dark and gets home at dark, needing her headlights to work and home every trip. ever since they applied the sticker to the headlights, she’s having a much harder time seeing the road which is making it dangerous especially in winter weather. Since she travels by Two lane very dark back country roads. I am asking for a different remedy for the headlight situation, other than the stickers on the headlights that are actually making it harder to see. I’m afraid she’s going to get in a car accident rather it be with a vehicle or the many deer. We have run across the roads out here by not being able to see. I feel this is very time sensitive and would really appreciate a response back as soon as possible. Thank you very much. I went in yesterday, 10/6/22, for a fix to recall #N222363740. All they did was put an applique on the outside of both my headlights which came off at the car wash today. I waited 4 years for a remedy and an hour at the dealer for cheap looking bandaid. NOT ACCEPTABLE!! See attached photo of GM's fix.

While turning from out of. Wheel gas station, the truck just stopped abruptly and shut off. It left me in a turning lane that curves to a stop at a stop light. I was in a dangerous spot. It was raining and dark. The Burr Ridge police had to come due to the position my truck was in and push me out of the lane and danger. I had it towed by AAA that night. Then had to have it towed to a mechanic. Who informed me that it was the timing chain belt.

I'VE TAKEN IT TO GET FIXED AT WILLIAMS CHEVROLET 3 TIMES (1) IN FEB 2018, I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED, BOTH THE FLUSH AND 2 DAYS LATER THE TRUCK JERKED AGAIN, TOOK IT BACK AGAIN IN FEB 2018 THE MECHANIC RODE WITH ME IN THE VEHICLE AND HE FELT THE JERK, THIS TIME I WAS TOLD TO USE HIGH OCTANE GAS WELL I DO USE HIGH OCTANE GAS, LEFT AND THE CAR JERKED TOOK IT BACK A 3RD TIME P, MAR. 2018 AND WAS THEN TOLD THE VEHICLE HAD A SENSOR UPDATE, THEY CLAIMED THE UPDATE WAS DONE AND I WOULD HAVE NO MORE ISSUES. IT'S NOW DECEMBER 2018 AND THE VEHICLE IS STILL JERKING SPORADICALLY. I'm having issues with my GMC Terrain when I start it. It always starts but it's like it keeps trying to start or is having issues getting enough fuel to get it to idle normal. Sometimes it only lasts a second or two and other times I have to push the gas pedal to get it to idle normally.

EARLIER THIS MONTH WHILE DRIVING, OUR GMC TERRAIN BEGAN SHUDDERING WHILE IN LINE AT A DRIVE-THROUGH. A FEW DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING, IT DIED AT A STOPLIGHT, AND WHEN RESTARTED, IMMEDIATELY DISPLAYED A WARNING THAT THERE WAS REDUCED POWER DUE TO AN OIL ISSUE. WE WERE NOT DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A BODY SHOP WHO INFORMED US THAT IT WAS LEAKING OIL DRASTICALLY AND HAD A LEAK IN THE REAR MAIN SEAL. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER AND THAT WE WERE THE THIRD GMC TERRAIN HE HAD SEEN IN 24 HOURS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. WE HAD TO TAKE IT TO A LARGER SHOP FOR THE REPAIR WORK, WHICH TOTALLED $2,407.33 TO REPAIR. THE SHOP SAID THE PCV SYSTEM FROZE AND CAUSED THE REAR MAIN SEAL TO BLOW OUT. THEY ALSO TOLD US THERE WERE MULTIPLE OTHER GMC TERRAINS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I LATER LEARNED THAT GMC HAD TO ISSUE A SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE FOR TERRAINS FROM 2010-2013. THIS WAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THE SPECIAL COVERAGE NOTES THAT "GMC TERRAIN VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE A FROZEN PCV SYSTEM DURING COLD WEATHER OPERATION. THIS MAY INCREASE CRANKCASE PRESSURE LEADING TO A REAR SEAL OIL LEAK." THE PART NUMBER THEY REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED WAS THE SAME PART NUMBER WE HAD REPLACED.

My car had been needing at least 2quarts of oil in between oil changes which I have done every 3000 miles. The timing chain is bad which is caused by excessive oil consumption. The service power steering and stability track light comes on it its messing with the transmission until I disconnect the battery and reset it, and it also leaked inside my glove an f the passenger floorboards

Moved car to shovel drive way. Went to move it back and my car wouldn’t start. Garage says it is the ECM Garage says GM has a hold on the sale/install on f this part as there is a known issue involving all unit including my vehicle and newer. The only recall currently is for exams for 2018 GMC Terrain ECM. My car will sit at the garage indefinitely.

I purchased this in March of 2025. 2 or 3 weeks after I bought this I took it to an oil lube shop and they said there was not any oil on the.dip stick. Also I started noticing the car being jerky while driving and when shutting it off it sputters. I took it to Max motors, a GMC dealer for a diagnostic check because it uses a quart of oil a week. They told me the high pressure fuel pump is bad and the piston rings were no good. This was on the 18th of June. I had taken it to the dealer I bought it from and complained about the problems, but he wouldn't do anything about it . The warranty was good at that time. Max motors told me it would cost me about $5000 to fix it which I don't have. I read that there was a recall on these cars with a 2.4L engine for these problems.

FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS THERE HAS BEEN A STEADY INCREASE IN CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK IN THE CABIN OF MY VEHICLE. I AM A DISABLED VETERAN WITH TBI AND PTSD AND THE FUMES FROM THE CARBON MONOXIDE IN MY VEHICLE IS CAUSING MY MIGRAINES TO INTENSIFY. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, he saw the check engine warning light was illuminated and was again having to add oil due to excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was taken back to the same independent mechanic who advised that the catalytic converter was going to fail again due to oil deposits. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

The contact stated that his wife was not aware of any warning lights being illuminated. The contact stated that his wife was unable to restart the vehicle, and had the vehicle towed to the residence. The contact called an independent mechanic to the residence who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was oil leaking into the engine block and cylinders. The mechanic determined that the positive crankcase valve (PCV) had failed and needed to be replaced and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed to overtake another vehicle in the right lane and the RPM raised up 8,000 RPM. The contact stated that there was an abnormal banging sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that smoke started coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine and check oil warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle lost motive power and the contact pulled off the roadway and turned off the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that a rod bearing had fractured and pierced the cylinder into the engine block. Vehicle started leaking oil with no indicator. Didn't realize it for at least a few days. When I smelled a burned oil smell took it to the repair shop. Was told my oil gasket blew and the engine is about shot. I also only a month earlier replaced the battery. These vehicles apparently have known battery, oil and engine issues that were known since 2010. There's an oil consumption issue that requires you to constantly refill the engine with oil between oil changes. It's so bad that it causes buildup and eventually interferes with the timing. Causing significant, unacceptable repairs! Now I'm forking out money for a constant issue that shouldn't exist! My car cut off in traffic! That's a major safety issue! I will provide costs of repair when I get the final estimate! My timing chain, tensioner and pistons may need to be replaced because of this issue!

I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE SINCE 11/2019. IT TWICE HAS HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS IN 12/2019. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THE AUTO START WAS NOT WORKING, AND THE ONLY ISSUE I SEEN WAS THAT IF IT SAT RUNNING FOR A WHILE LIKE FOR INSTANCES, WARMING UP, IT FLOODED AND THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN A FEW SECONDS AFTER IGNITION KEY WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE IGNITION. ENGINE WOULD STOP AFTER BUBBLING TO A STOP. THEN THE CHECK LIGHT WENT OUT AND EVERYTHING WORKED PROPERLY. BUT, ON 2/1/2020, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. MY AUTO START IS NOT WORKING AGAIN. AS LONG THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT AUTO START. THE CAR IS AGAIN FLOODING OUT AFTER ENGINE SHUT DOWN. AFTER IGNITION KEY IS TAKEN OUT OF IGNITION. THE ENGINE WILL RUN FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN BUBBLE TO A ENGINE STOP. WONDER IF OTHER CUSTOMERS HAS HAD PROBLEMS LIKE THIS TOO? THE POWERED LIFT GATE RAISED ALL THE WAY UP (AS REQUESTED), THEN DROPPED UNEXPECTEDLY ON MY WIFE'S BACK AND HEAD THEN RAISED AGAIN THEN DROPPED AND LATCHED. THE POWERED LIFT GATE REPEATS THIS UPON EVERY REQUEST TO OPEN AND WILL NOT REMAIN OPEN, MAKING THE REAR CARGO AREA BASICALLY USELESS. PURCHASED A 2014 GMC TERRAIN CERTIFIED FROM A DEALER AND IT HAD VISIBLE RUST ON DRIVERS SIDE REAR PASSENGER DOOR HEM. IT WAS TAKEN TO ABRA AUTO BODY SHOP AND WORKED ON 3 TIMES WITH THE RUST COMING RIGHT BACK THROUGH ONLY AFTER 7 DAYS. IT WAS SEAMED AND SEALED FOR A FINAL TIME AND THE AUTO BODY SHOP EVEN ADMITTED IT WILL NOT STOP THE RUST AND RECOMMENDS A NEW DOOR SHELL. HOW CAN A CAR ONLY 2 YRS 10 MONTHS OLD HAVE THIS BAD OF RUST? Nobody seems to be able to get a new part and no help from GM. If there is this many problems that there is no part left available it should be a national recall.

The contact stated that while her daughter was driving in the rain the windshield wipers became inoperable. Additionally, the headlights were dim. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the wiper motor and motor assembly were replaced. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Headlights- melted plug causing fire damage on both headlights, replaced with new headlights and bulbs as well as a new wire harness plug. Was driving smelt smoke/wires burning. Wipers- stop preforming during rain storm Southeastern NC on hwy 701 south on 3-24-22. And still does not work. Maybe be associated with older model terrain recall. Same happen to this model.

Around 76k miles the vehicle started to stall, the engine completely stopped while in drive. The vehicle was burning oil and had terrible gas milage prior to stalling incidents. The first time it stalled was at an intersection with a traffic light, when we went to slow down the engine completely shut down. My infant daughter was in the car with me and it was terrifying. We would have been hit had the light not been turning red. After that we recognized that it typically stalled after starting the car and attempting to accelerate. At times it happened when pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy street and I would loose engine power. This was extremely scary due to not being able to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. I had to put my flashers on and roll to the side of the road where I could restart the car. The engine ran really loud and rough when the issue first started and even after repairs the engine is still loud when first starting from cold. After time the issue persisted and I noticed that after the first start and stall if I revved the engined hard it did not stall a second or third time. Prior to that there were times the vehicle stalled 2-3 times after first start. The first time I took it to a garage (79k) there was a check engine light on and they diagnosed a sensor that needed to be changed. The problem persisted after the sensor was changed. I contacted another local garage who said there are known engine issues with this make and model and they wouldn't touch it and suggested taking it to the dealer. The dealer said they are familiar with this issue and the engine needed to be rebuilt for $4500. This was quite a shock given the car only had 88k miles on it at the time we contacted the dealer. After the dealer repairs the engine no longer stalls. Recalls on this model only go through 2013. The date on my radio resets to October 13, 2013 when the battery is disconnected so it seems this issue is persisting in models not included in the lawsuit.

OWN 2014 GMC TERRAIN WITH 56K MILES ON IT, HAVE HAD THE CAR TWO YEARS AND HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES. FIRST INCIDENT, WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IN RAIN WIPERS JUST SHIFT OFF. ALMOST WRECKED TRYING PULL OFF SIDE OF THE ROAD. COST $300 FOR NEW MOTOR. 2ND ISSUE HAD TO HAVE A SENSOR REPLACED BECAUSE CAR BURNED EXCESSIVE OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, WITH NO INDICATION OF LOW OIL. FRIED THE SENSOR. 3RD ISSUE, A REPEAT OF THE 2ND CAR WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED ON HIGHWAY, STABILTRAK LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SPEEDOMETER STOPPED IMMEDIATELY, I CHECKED OIL. WASN'T BONE DRY. DROVE IT STRAIGHT HOME AND WAS IN EVEN WORSE CONDITION REVERSING INTO DRIVEWAY. THE OIL EXPLODED ALL OVER DRIVEWAY, HAD IT TOWED TO PRIVATE MECHANIC. NOW I HAVE TO PUT A WHOLE NEW ENGINE IN BECAUSE GM IS NEGLIGENT WITH ISSUING RECALLS. OIL WAS LEAKING FROM RINGS ALL THE WAY OUT TO THE EXHAUST. FAULTY OIL SYSTEM AND NO WARNING FRIED MY ENGINE. TURNED CAR OFF AND ON THEN IT STARTED TO DRIVE BUT STALLED 4 MORE TIMES AFTER I CAME TO A FULL STOP AT A LIGHT. USED THE FIXD APP AND IT DETECTED 1 PROBLEM CODE P0011 INTAKE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THE TEST TURNED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND EXPLAINED THAT VARIABLE VALVE/CAMSHAFT TIMING IN THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE CONTROL THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST GASES IN AND OUT OF THE GAS COMBUSTION CHAMBER. SENSOR SHOULD LAST AS LONG AS YOUR CAR BUT CAN BECOME DAMAGED DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR BUT MY CAR ONLY HAS 93000 HWY MILES AND IS ONLY 4 YRS OLD.

Tensioner issues keeps breaking the timing chain. . Replaced twice at own cost. Fuel pump/ loss of power while driving. Back up camera doesn't work sometimes. Screen goes black. If key is left in the ignition it starts itself. If you try to use a car charger for a phone the AC shuts off and a "systems error" message pops up. This happens alot. It's an ongoing issue since I bought the car in Feburary this year.

The contact stated upon depressing the accelerator pedal to resume driving, the vehicle failed to exceed 25 MPH. The messages "Service Stabili-trak" and "Service Power Steering" were displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 159,500.

On October 13, 2023, I was driving on the highway when my 2014 GMC Terrain power was reduced. Suddenly, the engine light came on and car began throttling. Second, an error message appeared on my dashboard indicating “ engine power is reduced.” Then it stopped in the middle of the highway. I was able to restart my vehicle and drove it to a nearby mechanic shop. The mechanic said the problem was my timing chain and that my vehicle was not drivable. I left my vehicle at the mechanic shop because it was the weekend and It needed it to be towed to the dealership. On Monday, October 16, 2023, I had my vehicle towed to Buick Classic Service Center. After waiting for two days, I received a call from the service center stating that my 2014 GMC Terrain timing chain and pressure gas pump was the cause of the problem - with my vehicle. After, reading other owners similar complaints ; why is there not a recall to address this problem? Now, I am stuck without a vehicle and the company has no idea how long it will take to get the parts needed to fix my vehicle. I was told that the timing chain and a tension is on back order due to the employees of GMC being are on strike.

My engine Burns a very large amount of oil rapidly. I have to replace oil in the engine at least twice a week. I went to the Automotive Service Center and they indicated that my timing chain need to be readjusted and that the engine itself between the year of 2010 and 2017 on gmc terrains have major problems/ defects in with the engine. I was driving on the highway and the car slowed down I barely could get any acceleration. I then had to get off of the expressway to avoid collisions. I took my car to the shop several other times for automatic brake system problems and stability track problems. I had censors replacedvand stability track problens. They wrre fixed but the automotive technicians indicated they the oroblems will happen again. Soon after that my engine was low of oil again within the matter of two or three days. The problem (massive oil consumption) continues to happen. I have investigated the problem and I found that there were engine class action lawsuit on the GMC 2014 Terrain because of the engine problems. I need to know how I can get my problems with the engine in particular resolved so that I can move forward and not worry about being involved in a motor vehicle accident when I drive to work each day.

The actuator that controls the blend door / recirculation door (moves the air from defrost to floor to vent) does not last more than a year in my vehicle. I see on the GMC Terrain forums that it is a common problem. It is a danger when defrost is needed on the windshield, and it doesn't work.

I HAD THIS CAR AS A RENTAL. MY WIFE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND USES A CUSHION TO SIT ON, BECAUSE OF BACK PROBLEMS. WE NOTICED THAT AIR BAG "ON" LIGHT WAS NOT LIT. WHEN SHE TOOK AWAY THE SEAT CUSHION THE AIRBAG "ON" WAS LIT.I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A PROBLEM, BUT THERE WAS NO WARNING MSG ANYWHERE ABOUT USING A SEAT CUSHION. THERE WAS NO OVERRIDE SWITCH TO FORCE THE AIRBAG "ON" LIGHT EITHER AND ACTIVATE THE SYSTEM. *TR
