AS VEHICLE IS SLOWING TO A STOP, THE ABS ENGAGES LIFTS THE BRAKE PEDAL, ESSENTIALLY ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL FORWARD, AND REQUIRING A QUICK REACTION TO STRONGLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY AND CORRODED ABS SPEED SENSOR, WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED ON THESE VEHICLES FROM 2002, BUT THE RECALL DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 2001 YEAR. ANOTHER KNOWN ISSUE IS FAULTY ABS MODULES IN THESE VEHICLES WHICH TURN ON THE DASHBOARD BRAKE AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS PERIODICALLY ALTHOUGH THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR ABS. *TT

I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE IN THE DRIVEWAY AND FELT A POP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THE PEDAL A FEW TIMES AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR EACH TIME. I LOOKED AROUND THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR. I FELT AROUND THE FRAME WHERE THE LEAK WAS AND FELT A VERY CORRODED BRAKE LINE. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT MANY GM TRUCK OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND THERE IS AN NHTSA INVESTIGATION AND ENGINEERING ANALYSIS. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF GM IS GOING TO RECALL THESE TRUCKS FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR

SLOW SPEED STOP APPROACHING A LOCKED GATE. BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED. PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE. BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUMPED TWICE WITH THE FINAL APPLICATION LOCKING ONE REAR WHEEL. THE ABOVE VEHICLE STOPPED WITHIN 2 FEET OF STRIKING A METAL SECURITY GATE. BRAKE FLUID WAS OBSERVED DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE COMPARTMENT ON TO THE GROUND. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. MECHANIC FOUND THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE RUST ON ALL METAL BRAKE TUBING. ONE OF THE METAL BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS PUMP COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING LOSS OF ALL BRAKE PRESSURE AND BRAKE FAILURE. ALL METAL BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. BEFORE AND AFTER THE INCIDENT THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS THAT WERE ACTIVATED ON THE DASH. *TT

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PULLING UP TO A STOP LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD EXTENDING THE BRAKING DISTANCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINE DISINTEGRATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK IN SPRING 2018, I APPROACHED TRAFFIC LIGHT, DEPRESSED BRAKE, WHICH WENT TO FLOOR AND HAD TO USE PARKING BREAK TO STOP. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKE LINES. THEN, 6-8 MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING, CAME TO ANOTHER STOP LIGHT, DEPRESSED BRAKES AND COULD NOT STOP UNTIL I USED PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE. HAD YUKON XL TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP AND HAD REAR BRAKE LINES REPLACED IN FALL, 2018. SINCE THEN, BRAKE LIGHTS AND ABS LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON, WHEREAS OTHER TIMES WHEN STARTING AND DRIVING, BRAKE & ABS LIGHTS COME ON AND THEN GO OFF WHILE DRIVING. BRAKING HAS ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE INSUFFICIENT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE BRAKE FUNCTIONALITY WAS LOST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A PISTON WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THREE MONTHS LATER, WHILE TRYING TO SHIFT GEARS, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL POPPING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 250,000.

ACCELERATED RIGID BRAKE LINE CORROSION RESULTED IN BRAKE LINE FAILURE AND COMPLETE LOSS OF VEHICLE STOPPING ABILITY. BRAKE LINES ARE INSPECTED REGULARLY AND DID NOT APPEAR RUSTED. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH WHEN OPERATOR STEPPED ON BRAKE TO SLOW AND STOP VEHICLE. BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT AND THEN PRESSED COMPLETELY TO FLOOR WITHOUT ANY BRAKING ACTION. OPERATOR USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW AND STOP VEHICLE. VEHICLE REQUIRED IMMEDIATE TOWING AS IT WAS NOT ROAD WORTHY AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITHOUT BRAKING ABILITY.

MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL 1500 SLT PARKING BRAKE HAS FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAS 66000 MILES AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND PROPERLY MAINTAINED. THE PARKING BRAKE FOOT LEVER GOES TO THE FLOOR AND DOES NOT HOLD AT ALL. THE PARKING BRAKE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO ME BY A CHEVY/GMC DEALER DURING MY LATEST STATE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THE ORIGINAL OWNER SAYS HE NEVER USED THE PARKING BRAKE. I HAVE NEVER USED THE PARKING BRAKE BECAUSE IT IS NOT NEEDED IN OUR FLAT TERRAIN. UPON MOVING TO HOUSTON, I HAD AN INSPECTION PERFORMED ON MY 2001 GMC YUKON. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PARKING BRAKE HAD BECOME ENGAGED, EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT EVEN USE IT, AND DESTROYED MY REAR LEFT ROTOR, BRAKE PADS, AND EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS. IN ADDITION TO REPLACING THE ROTOR AND ALL BRAKE PADS ON THE REAR LEFT, I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS ON THE RIGHT REAR REPLACED AS WELL. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME WITH NO REAR BRAKE PADS OR EMERGENCY BRAKE. IN OTHER WORDS, HAD I PARKED MY CAR ON AN INCLINE AND USED THE PARKING BRAKE, IT WOULD NOT HOLD MY CAR. I ALSO HAD NO REAR BRAKES IF MY FRONT BRAKES HAD FAILED. I HAVE READ FORUMS ONLINE AND HAVE DISCOVERED THIS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL OTHER 2001 YUKON OWNERS. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2001 AND HAVE HAD NO NEED FOR MY PARKING BRAKE. THE TOTAL DAMAGES WERE OVER $500 AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AS THERE IS NO INDICATION WHEN AND IF THE PARKING BRAKE ACTIVATES ITSELF. WHEN THE TIRES REACHED 25,000 MILES, EACH OF THEM FAILED ONE BY ONE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES HAD A HOLE IN THEM AND THE RADIAL CORD SEPARATED IN ONE SPOT. SHE AGAIN PURCHASED FOUR NEW TIRES OF THE SAME BRAND AND ON JUNE 19, 2007, ONE OF THE TIRES FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES ARE CONTINENTAL SPORT LT/SUV, P26/70R16. THE CORRECT TIRE SIZE WAS UNAVAILABLE IN THE DROP DOWN MENU AT THE TIME OF THIS COMPLAINT. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, AND PURCHASE DATE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,000.

I HAVE A 2001 GMC YUKON AND IT CAME WITH FIRESTONE STEELTEX AT TIRES LT 245/75R 16. THE TIRE'S DOT # IS VN11 BAC 4700. I WAS GOING SOUTH ON HWY 101 AND THE FRONT END BEGAN TO VIBRATE. BEFORE, I COULD PULL OVER THE TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE CORE AND WAS FLYING ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY. THE CORE STILL HELD AIR AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITH OUT ANY INCIDENTS. I DROVE THE VEHICLE ABOUT 1 MILE TO THE NEXT EXIT WHERE I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE AND EXAMINE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR BODY DAMAGE WHERE THE TREAD HIT THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL (DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT). I HAVE SENT THE CORE TO FIRESTONE AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY SUSTAINED HIGH PRESSURE IN THE TIRE. I DISAGREE WITH THIS BECAUSE ALL 4 TIRES HAD EVEN TREADS WITH OUT ANY BALD AREAS IN THE MIDDLE AND THE TIRE PRESS WAS CHECKED RIGHT BEFORE MY TRIP. I PURCHASED 4 NEW CONTINENTAL-MADE TIRES FOR OUR 2001 GMC YUKON. THESE TIRES CARRY THE "GENERAL" BRAND NAME, MODEL P265-70R16, GRABBER AW, DOT# A3723J82301. I PURCHASED THESE TIRES WITH AN UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY ARE WARRANTED AGAINST DEFECTS AND ANY DAMAGE OCCURRING AS A RESULT WOULD BE COVERED BY THE TIRE COMPANY. I HAVE PROPERLY MAINTAINED THESE TIRES THROUGHOUT MY OWNERSHIP OF THEM. AFTER A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE, ONE OF THE TIRES UNEXPECTEDLY AND SUDDENLY BLEW UP, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BARELY MISSING AN EMBANKMENT AND CONCRETE BRIDGE COLUMN. UPON INSPECTION OF THE TIRE IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER, I SAW THAT THE TREAD HAD COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF THE TOP OF THE TIRE. AS A RESULT OF THIS, THE LOOSE TREAD WAS "SLAPPING" EVERY PART OF THE VEHICLE IN THE SURROUNDING AREA CAUSING OVER $4,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE, INCLUDING, BODY DAMAGE, TAILPIPE DAMAGE, ELECTRICAL WIRES CUT, A/C LINES CUT, TAIL LIGHT SEVERED, RUNNING BOARDS BROKEN AND MORE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER, I CONTACTED CONTINENTAL AND FILED A CLAIM TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS DAMAGE. AFTER A LENGTHY WAIT, I WAS INFORMED ON JANUARY 26, 2005 THAT THEY WERE DENYING MY CLAIM DUE TO A SMALL TIRE PUNCTURE. IT IS MY CONTENTION THAT A SMALL PUNCTURE SHOULD NOT CAUSE THE TIRE TO ABSOLUTELY EXPLODE THE WAY MINE DID. FURTHERMORE, CONTINENTAL CLAIMS THERE WERE OTHER DEFECTS IN THE TIRE, SUCH AS SIDEWALL DAMAGE, THAT WERE ALL CAUSED AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT, AND NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. IT HAS SINCE BECOME CLEAR TO ME THAT CONTINENTAL HAS HAD THE SAME SORT OF BLOWOUTS ON SIMILAR MODELS. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART, HOWEVER THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WORKED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FUSE OF THE FUEL PUMP HAD GONE OUT. THE FUSE WAS REPLACED. A FEW WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DIFFERENT DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FUEL PUMP WIRING SHORTED AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP. THERE WAS A RECALL #01V159000 REGARDING THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. WHEN THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, A COMPLAINT WAS TAKEN WHICH RESULTED IN A PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIRS.

RECENTLY, SUMMER OF 09, IT HAS BECOME WORSE (MORE FREQUENT AND LONGER TIME TO RE-START) AND AFTER TWO INDEPENDENT DIAGNOSTIC TESTS BY TWO SEPARATE CERTIFIED MECHANICS, IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CRANK POSITIONING SENSOR. I HAD ALREADY HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT SINCE MY VIN WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL (EVEN THOUGH ITS THE SAME YEAR, MODEL AND ENGINE) I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER!!! TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 2500. THE CRANK CASE POSITION SENSOR SHUTS ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL AND IT MAY NOT RESTART IMMEDIATELY. THE FAILURE IS RELATED TO NHTSA#07V521000 AND GM RECALL# 06083, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. A DIFFERENT AUTHORIZED DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE REPAIR COST WAS $800 AND IF THE FAILURE AFFECTED THE TRANSMISSION ADDITIONAL FEES WOULD BE INCLUDED. A LOCAL MECHANIC REPAIRED THE TRANSMISSION AT FOR LESS THAN $800. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS FOR HER VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,315 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 2500. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND LOST POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT IT TOOK A FEW MINUTES. AFTER THE REPAIR, HE DISCOVERED THE RECALL FOR THE SAME DEFECT FOR THE YUKON, BUT NOT FOR THE YUKON XL, EVEN THOUGH IT HAD THE SAME MOTOR. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT FEELS THAT IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT WAS HARD TO TURN THE VEHICLE AND SHE EVENTUALLY MADE IT HOME. I CHECKED THE STEERING AND IT WAS MALFUNCTIONING. I HAVE HEARD THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED IN THE PAST AND WE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER GMC AND THEY STATED OUR VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT ON THE LIST AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNLESS WE PAID FOR THE VEHICLE REPAIR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IF THEY HAD RECALLED THIS IN THE PAST IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECTIFIED WITH THE VEHICLES SOLD AFTER THE RECALL. WAS DRIVING DOWN A STRETCH OF STRAIGHT ROAD IN WARRENTON, VIRGINIA WHEN I WENT TO PRESS THE BUTTON THAT CHANGES THE DISPLAY NEAR THE ODOMETER FROM "ODOMETER," "TRIP 1" MILES, AND "TRIP 2" MILES. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH WHEN I BEGAN TO SMELL SMOKE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS JUST OIL SPILLED ON EXHAUST SYSTEM. THEN THE SMOKE GOT WORSE AND HAD A TERRIBLE ODOR. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE CENTER CONSOLE AND SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM AROUND THE EDGES AND THE ASH TRAY AREA. I STARTED LOOKING FOR A PULLOFF AS I WAS ON A COUNTRY ROAD. AS I FOUND ONE FIRE STARTED COMING UP THROUGH THE GAPS. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT I HAD A FIRE THAT WAS GOING TO DESTROY THE VEHICLE. SO, ONCE I WAS STOPPED I LOOKED FOR MY FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT COULDN'T FIND IT AND THEN I REMEMBERED THAT I HAD BOTTLED WATER IN THE VEHICLE. I GRABBED 4 OF THEM AND WENT BACK TO THE DRIVERS SIDE AND BEGAN TO POUR WATER DOWN THROUGH THE OPENING IN THE CONSOLE THAT HAD BEEN CAUSED BY THE FIRE MELTING IT. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT QUICKLY. I THEN PUT ON GLOVES AND REMOVED THE TOP PART OF THE CONSOLE THAT HAD BEEN MOSTLY DESTROYED BY THE FIRE. IN LOOKING INTO THE BOTTOM IT APPEARS THAT SMALL BITS OF PAPER, RECEIPTS, ETC. HAD FALLEN DOWN ONTO THE WIRING HARNESS BELOW. MY GUESS IS THAT SINCE I HAD PLUGGED MY XM RADIO INTO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER IT HAD HEATED UP THE WIRES WHICH HAD HEATED UP THE PAPERS UNTIL THEY BEGAN TO BURN. I CONSIDER THIS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE CONSOLE, THE CAUSE BEING THE CRACKS IN THE CONSOLE/ASH TRAY WHICH WOULD ALLOW PAPER OBJECTS TO FALL ONTO THE WIRING HARNESS BELOW AND CAUSE A FIRE. THE FIRE MELTED ABOUT SIX INCHES OF INSULATION OFF THE WIRING HARNESS AND THE WIRES TOUCHING EACH OTHER RESULTED IN FUSES BEING BLOWN. THE VEHICLE IS STILL DRIVABLE BUT AS OF THIS WRITING DOES NOT HAVE OVERHEAD LIGHTS AND DASHBOARD LIGHTING AVAILABLE & THEIR IS AN INTERMITTENT IGNITION ISSUE. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT WIRING HARNESS BUT SUSPECT THAT WHEN I DO IT WILL COST AN ARM AND A LEG. I AM TRYING TO REPAIR THE WIRING BY REINSULATING EACH WIRE AND THEN RE-BUNDLING THEM. *TR

THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED FOUR TIMES SINCE 2004. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CASE SHIFT CONTROL MODULE EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT BELIEVES IT SHOULD NOT FAIL EVERY 12 MONTHS. SUV HAS UPGRADED TRANSMISSION THAT HAD A SUPPOSEDLY BETTER MODEL "FRONT PLANET" PART PER GMC TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST. THAT SUPPOSEDLY SUPERIOR "FRONT PLANET" SPLIT INTO (2) PARTS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION ALTHOUGH IT IS ONE MOLDED PIECE. RESULTING EXPLOSION OF METAL CAUSED A $2703.52 TRANSMISSION REBUILD. I USUALLY OPEN THE WHOLE TAILGATE TO ACCESS THE REAR CARGO AREA, HOWEVER SINCE I WAS TOWING A TRAILER I OPENED THE REAR GLASS TO RETRIEVE AN ITEM. WHEN I PUSHED DOWN TO CLOSE THE REAR GLASS, I NOTICED THAT THE GLASS DID NOT FIT TO CLOSE PROPERLY. I OPENED THE GLASS AND SAW THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE HINGE ON THE REAR GLASS WAS BROKEN AND PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM THE REAR GLASS. THIS RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION, AS THE REAR GLASS IS NOW SECURED TO THE TRUCK WITH A SINGLE HINGE AND THE LATCH. I AM WORRIED THAT IF I DRIVE THE TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY THE WHOLE REAR GLASS WILL HAVE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND INJURE DRIVERS BEHIND ME. THE DEALER STATED THAT DUE TO THE SALT WATER RAIN, THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE IS KEPT OUTSIDE AND HAS EXCESSIVE MILEAGE, AND THE CONTACT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SERVICED SINCE THE TIME IT WAS PURCHASED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT MUST PAY OUT OF POCKET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

TAILGATE LIFT ASSIST PISTONS FAILED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, MAKING THE OPENING AND LIFTING OF THE REAR TAILGATE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO WEIGHT. THIS ISSUE REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE TWO PISTONS. WITHOUT A FIX THE VEHICLE OWNER HAS TO PROP OPEN THE TAILGATE WITH A HOMEMADE SUPPORT WHICH CAUSES A SERIOUS DANGER OF INADVERTANT SLIPPING AND CLOSURE OF THE HEAVY TAILGATE WHICH IS AN IMMENANT DANGER TO SMALL CHILDREN, ELDERLY. VEHILCE IS A 2001 AND THESE PARTS SHOULD HAVE A LONGER LIFE EXPECTANCY.

TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE METAL CLASHING ON METAL. THE CONTACT TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A A DEFECTIVE FLEX PLATE. HE FELT THAT THIS WAS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FAILURE COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF THE ABILITY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THIS WAS A HUGE CONCERN FOR ANYONE WHO WAS PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER. THE CONTACT COULD PROVIDE PICTURES IF NEEDED. THE FAILURE WAS 80,000 MILES. *AK THE NOISE WAS NOTICED A IDLE AND PARTICULARLY AT ACCELERATION. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FLEX PLATE CONNECTING THE CRANK TORQUE CONVERTER WAS FRACTURED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBABLE FAILURE MODE ON THIS PART IS FLEXURAL FATIGUE WHICH WOULD RESULT MISALIGNMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT AND THE CRANKSHAFT, OR EXCESSIVE RUN OUT ON THE ATTACHMENT SURFACE OF EITHER THE CRANKSHAFT OR THE CONVERTER. I OPENED BACK REAR LIFT GLASS AND IT MADE A VERY STRANGE NOISE. I CLOSED IT THEN NOTICED IT WAS NOT SITTING STRAIGHT SO I OPENED IT AGAIN TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE IT AGAIN IT WOULD NOT LOCK AND THEN ONE HINGE HOLDING THE GLASS ON JUST BROKE AND THEN THE GLASS WAS ONLY HELD ON BY ONE HINGE AND WAS COMPLETELY CROOKED. I CONTACTED GMC DEALER AND THEY SAID $1,100.00 REPAIR BECAUSE THEY HAD TO REPAIR THE WHOLE GLASS PLUS THE HINGES. I FOUND OUT THAT A COUPLE OTHER PEOPLE IN MY SMALL AREA HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEN I FOUND SOMEWHERE ON THIS WEBSITE THERE HAD BEEN 3 MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. WHEN I SPOKE WITH GMC THEY SAID IT WASN'T ANYTHING I DID AND IT WASN'T DUE FROM WEAR AND TEAR THAT IT JUST BROKE. APPARENTLY THE PART THAT BROKE ON MINE WAS THE WELDING CAME OFF. THE RECALL STATES THAT THERE COULD BE A NO LOCK CONDITION BUT THE CONSUMER REPORTED AN INCIDENT WHERE THE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT COME UNLOCKED. I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY IN FEB OF 2002 AND IT WAS SLEETING, I WAS USING MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO CLEAR THE WINDOW. THE RIGHT FORNT WIPER ARM CAME LOOSE AS THE WIPER STARTED THE UP STROKE AND THEN JUST STAYED IN THE "UP" POSITION, IT GOT TANGLED UP INTO THE LEFT WIPER ARM AND BENT THE ARM TO WHERE THE WIPERS COULD NOT BE USED. I TOOK THE YUKON INTO A GMC DEALER WHO WAS CLOSE BY, THEY REFUSED TO WORK ON IT SINCE I HAD NOT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THERE, SO I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE APPROX. 50 MILES TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM TO GET IT REPAIRED. THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AND TOLD ME THAT THE WIPERS ON THIS VEHICLE SOMETIMES DO THAT, IN FACT HE SAID HE HAD ALREADY REPAIRED TWO THAT SAME DAY AND I SHOULD CARRY A 13MM WRENCH WITH ME AND CHECK THE TIGHTNESS ON THE ARMS FROM TIME TO TIME. THE NEXT INCIDENT HAPPENED IN APRIL AND IT WAS MISTING RAIN, I HAD JUST TURNED ON MY WIPERS WHEN I SAW THE LEFT FRONT WIPER ARM COME LOSE AND STOPPED WIPING. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE WIPERS OFF BEFORE IT GOT TANGLED UP WITH THE RIGHT WIPER ARM. I USED THE 13MM WRENCH, THAT THE DEALER RECOMMENED I BUY, AND TIGHTENED IT. I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFTEY FEATURE IF THIS HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHILE IT WAS RAINING OR SLEETING HARD. THE INCIDENT WITH THE REAR DEFROST HAPPENED IN APRIL OF 2002. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN THIS RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, THEY HAD ALREADY REPLACE THE SAME PART WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS 3-5 MONTHS OLD. I QUESTIONED THEM AS TO THE REPLACEMENT PART AS THE FIRST PART ONLY CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NOT COMPLETELY DISABLING THE ENGINE. IT MAY BE THEY REPLACE THE FACTORY ORIGINAL PART WITH A PART WHICH WAS DEFECTIVE AND COVERED BY THE RECALL. I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY ON 04/01/2015 WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER NEARLY CAUSING A WRECK. I PULLED OVER AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER ERROR WAS ILLUMINATED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PIN BOX FOR THE TRAILER HITCH IS SUPPOSED TO BE HORIZONTAL, BUT IT IS SLIGHTLY BENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE PIN BOX WAS BENDING/DEFORMING. THE HITCH WAS REPLACED AT 14,800 MILES. THE PIN BOX IS CURRENTLY BENDING AGAIN. THE TRAILER HITCH IS USED SIX TIMES PER YEAR TO TOW A TRAILER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 27,353 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,600.

ON 8/7/2001 I TOOK MY GMC YUKON XL TO THE DEALER AND REQUESTED THEY REPLACE MY FACTORY INSTALLED HEAVY DUTY TRAILER RECEIVER HITCH DUE TO IT BENDING UP APPROXIMATELY 3" DUE TO THE TORSION BARS PULLING UP ON THE HITCH TO PUT MORE WEIGHT ON THE FRONT WHEELS. I AM TOWING A 26' HI-LO TRAVEL TRAILER THAT IS CONSIDERABLY LESS WEIGHT THAN THE GMC HITCH IS DESIGNED FOR. I HAVE PULLED THIS SAME TRAILER WITH THE SAME TRAILER HITCH BALL, TORSION BARS, SWAY BARS PULLING IT WITH MY 1997 FORD EXPLORER. THE TRAILER HITCH RECEIVER NEVER BENT LIKE THE GMC RECEIVER HITCH DID ON MY FIRST TRIP TO CANADA. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, MR. HOLZHAVER, AND SHOWED HIM BOTH THE GMC BENT RECEIVER HITCH AND THE FORD EXPLORER UNDAMAGED RECEIVER HITCH. HE REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TRAILER HITCH AND SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. THE DESIGN OF THIS TRAILER RECEIVER HITCH IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BEND UP 3 INCHES WHEN THE TORSION BARS ARE INSTALLED. ON A RECENT TRIP TO CANADA IT WAS FOUND THAT FOUR(4) OF THE WELDS HOLDING THE SQUARE RECEIVER TO THE HORIZONTAL MEMBER WERE CRACKED, ONE WELD WAS OK. NOT BEING SATISIFED WITH THE WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION PERFORMANCE OF THE HITCH I HAD CONTACTED CAN-AM RV CENTER (TOWING SPECALISTS) IN ONTARIO CANADA TO CHECK THE HITCH WHILE I WAS UP THERE. WHEN RAISING THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT THEY FOUND FOUR CRACKED WELDS WHICH THEY REPAIRED AND ATTACHED SOME ADDITIONAL MEMBERS TO THE FRAME IN ORDER TO TRANSFER MORE WEIGHT TO THE FRONT AXLE. PRIOR TO THIS MODIFICATION I WAS REDUCING THE FRONT AXLE LOAD BY 600#, WHICH MADE THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE LIGHT. I BELIEVE THIS RECEIVER IS OVER RATED AND VERY DANGEROUS. THIS FACTORY RECEIVER IS RATED AT 12000# TRAILER WEIGHT AND 1500# TONGUE WEIGHT WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE OVER RATED. IT ALSO DOES NOT TRANSFER THE WEIGHT EVENLY OVER THE VEHICLE AS IT SHOULD. I AM TOWING A 9000# TRAILER WITH A HITCH WEIGHT OF 1200#. IT APPEARS THAT THE GM PRIORTY IS SELLING YUKON'S AND INCLUDING A RECEIVER FROM THE LOWEST BIDDER. AS OF THIS DATE I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY GM THAT THEY NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE WELD FIX($70) BECAUSE IT WAS NOT DONE BY A GM DEALER. This is the 3rd Yukon I have owned all 2001-2003. Every one of them have had serious brake issues, ABS illuminated, Parking Brake does not work, and light is illuminated, brake fluid everywhere, which when hot starts eating away at electrical components, or in my case at cooling system hoses. Which all lead too one issue after another. I really think that this shoudl be address becasue eveyone i speak with has the same issue. It's exhausting anf expensive too fix, but i have no choice becausei need 3 rows too fit all my children and cannot afford a brand new car.

ON 01/23/2018 I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. THE BRAKES WHEN APPLIED HESITATED FOR A FEW THEN FINALLY TOOK HOLD BUT BY THAT TIME IT WAS TO LATE AND I ENDED UP ON SOMEONES LAWN AFTER CRASHING THROUGH THEIR WHITE PICKET FENCE, THEN ROLLING COMPLETELY OVER ON ITS TOP, TOTALLY THE YUKON. MY CONCERN IS THE NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AT ALL. THANKFULLY, I ONLY RECEIVED MINOR SCRAPES AND BRUISES. PLUS, I AM VERY SORE STILL. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD OF BEEN A WORSE CASE, WHERE I GOT SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN DEATH BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. I HAVE NOTIFIED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO MAKE SURE THERE IS A WRITTEN PAPER TRAIL PERTAINING TO THESE ISSUES WITH THE YUKON. SPECIFICALLY, THE BRAKES NOT CATCHING IN TIME AND THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING. I WOULD APPRECIATE A RESPONSE BACK TO THIS MATTER AS SOON AS YOU CAN. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE ACCIDENT MIGHT NOT OF RESULTED IN TOTALING MY VEHICLE IF THE BRAKES WERE WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN I APPLIED BRAKES IT FELT LIKE THEY WERE CATCHING BUT SEEMED TO TAKE FOREVER TO STOP SOON ENOUGH, ALMOST A HESITATION ON THE BRAKES PART. PLUS, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT WORK EITHER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SEIZED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CRUSHED PELVIS IN THREE AREAS, LEFT LEG AND ANKLE NERVE DAMAGE AND DISLOCATED RIGHT SHOULDER. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED A BROKEN LEFT LEG AND ANKLE, BROKEN JAW AND FRONT AND SIDE TEETH WERE KNOCKED OUT WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

IN AUG 2005, THE ABS LIGHT ON OUR 2001 GMC YUKON WITH 51K MILES CAME ON AND THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE (THE PUMP) UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHICH REMAINS ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. THE ABS FUSE MUST BE REMOVED TO SHUT OFF THE PUMP. OUR LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP REPAIRED IT FOR $1100 ($870 FOR THE ABS MODULE). IN SEP 2009, THE ABS FAILED AGAIN AT 91K MILES. OUR GMC DEALERSHIP HELPED COVER THE COST OF REPAIR BY COVERING THE COST OF THE MODULE. WE HAD TO WAIT 2 MONTHS (NOV 2009) BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD THAT THE MODULE WAS BEING REDESIGNED TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS. IN OCT 2014, THE ABS FAILED AGAIN AT 138K MILES. OUR GMC DEALERSHIP PUT US IN CONTACT WITH GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THE HOPE THAT GMC COULD ASSIST IN COVERING THE COST OF REPAIR. AFTER SEVERAL FRUSTRATING PHONE CALLS WITH SUPERVISORS, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOO OLD AND THEREFORE GMC WOULD NOT ASSIST. DURING THESE PHONE CALLS GMC STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE VEHICLE IN "SALT-BELT" STATES BUT NOT CALIFORNIA. OBVIOUSLY THE ABS MODULE IS DEFECTIVE AS A RELATIVE WITH A SIMILAR VEHICLE (CHEVY TAHOE) HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE ABS MODULE. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET, WE FOUND A COMPANY THAT STATES THAT THEY CAN REPAIR THE MODULE FOR UNDER $100 AND GUARANTEES THE REPAIR FOR LIFE. IF THEY CAN DO THIS, WHY CAN'T GM MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES TO THE ABS MODULE AND GIVE CUSTOMERS THE PEACE OF MIND THAT THE VEHICLE WILL BE SAFE. IN JUNE OF 2010 MY FUEL PUMP WENT OUT AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A SHOP AND FIXED 700.00. THEN IN JULY OF 2011 THE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT AGAIN, SAME THING HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND FIXED AT THE SAME SHOP ANOTHER 700.00. THEN AGAIN IN NOVEMBER OF 2012, TOWED TO SAME SHOP AND SAME PRICE. NOW HERE WE ARE 2014 AND MY FUEL PUMP JUST WENT OUT FOR THE FOURTH TIME. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING ABOUT A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD MY HUB BEARING REPLACED AND MY WHEEL ALMOST FELL OFF. WHEN RETURNING TO THE SHOP THE TRUCK WAS LIFTED UP AND HE SHOWED ME THE BRAKE LINES AND THE GAS LINES THAT WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . MY COMPLAINT IS RELATED TO THE ALREADY IN EFFECT RECALL FOR GM RECALL NO. 06083. I WANT TO REQUEST THAT ANOTHER INVESTIGATION BE DONE. DUE TO THE FACT THAT I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM WITH MY 2001 GMC YUKON SLE 5.3L V8. THE PROBLEM BEGAN A FEW YEARS BACK IN 2006 AND UNTIL THIS PRESENT TIME, ITS GETTING WORSE AS TIME PASSES BY. WHEN IT HAPPENED THE VERY FIRST TIME I CONTACTED GM AND THEY OBVIOUSLY SAID THAT THEY HAD NO REPORTED INCIDENTS AS THE ONE THAT I WAS DESCRIBING FOR MY VEHICLE.THEN WHEN I SAW THE RECALL ON THE LOCAL NEWS IN 2007 I GAVE THEM A CALL BACK AND AGAIN THEY CLAIMED THAT NO INCIDENTS WERE REPORTED FOR MY SPECIFIC MODEL AND ENGINE, SO THEY BRUSHED ME OFF QUICKLY AS IF I WERE JUST CALLING CAUSE I HAD NOTHING ELSE TO DO & WAS JUST LOOKING TO WASTE MY TIME AND THEIRS!. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF INCIDENTS OCCUR WHERE THE TRUCK HAS STALL WHILE IN DRIVE AND AT A SPEED BETWEEN 10 -40 MPH ON A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FWY (WHERE YOU CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON TRAFFIC CONGESTION). MY FAMILY MEMBERS AND MYSELF HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY TO HAVE ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY.IN TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH MY VEHICLE I CAME ACROSS MANY GMC OWNER FORUMS WERE COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WITH MY SAME ENGINE AND MODEL SUV HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR THE REASON AND SOLUTION WHAT CAUSED THAT VEHICLE BEHAVIOR. MY SUV HAS THE SAME EXACT ISSUES DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH WHICH I COPIED FROM THE RECALL EXPLANATION : "THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION CAN OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY OR FAIL COMPLETELY. IF THE SENSOR OPERATES INTERMITTENTLY, THE SES LIGHT MAY ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE MAY RUN ROUGH. THE ENGINE MAY STALL, AND IF SO, MAY RE-START IMMEDIATELY OR AFTER A COOL DOWN PERIOD." NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING UNDER THE FRONT OF THE DRIVERS DOOR ON THE GROUND. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE LINE WAS DRIPPING FLUID. THE BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND THE FRAME IS REALLY RUSTED. JUST GOT THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE GMC SHOP FOR ROUTINE SERVICE. CAN'T FIGURE WHY THEY DIDN'T NOTICE OR AT LEAST TELL ME THAT I MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM.I CALLED THEM AND ADVISE WHAT ISSUE I WAS HAVING. SPENT 5 HOURS IN MEETING AND HUM WAS STILL PRESENT. CAR STARTED OK BUT ABS LIGHT CAME BACK ON. LATE IN DAY SO I TOOK TO LOCAL FIRESTONE SERVICE. THEY DETERMINED IT WAS THE ABS PUMP. IT WAS SO HOT IT BLISTERED MY FINGER WHEN I TOUCHED IT. TAPPED ON PUMP HOUSING TO GET IT TO GO OFF BUT NO SUCCESS. ONLY WAY TO STOP PUMP WAS TO REMOVE FUSE FROM FUSEBLOCK UNDER HOOD. I AM GLAD I DISCOVERED THIS. IF IT HAD BEEN MY WIFE THE CAR MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN PUT BACK IN OUR GARAGE WITHOUT NOTICE OF THE HUM. MAY HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. ARE THERE ANY EXAMPLES OF THIS MODEL, OR OTHER MODELS HAVING SAME OR SIMILAR ABS PUMP AND ABS COMPUTER, CATCHING FIRE? THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CIRCUIT LOGIC. IT SHOULD "FAIL SAFE", I.E. I RECENTLY NOTICED THAT MY SPARE TIRE WAS MISSING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SEAR AUTO CENTER THAT HAS BEEN SERVICING IT. WHEN THEY LOOKED UNDER THE CAR THEY SAID THAT IT WAS COMMON FOR THE YUKON SPARE TIRE CABLE TO RUST AND SNAP OFF. SO I LOST THE SPARE TIRE, SPARE WHEEL, AND CABLE SYSTEM TO HOLD THE SPARE UNDER THE VEHICLE. NOT SURE WHERE OR WHEN IT HAPPENED, BUT IT WAS IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS COMPLAINT SERVICE. HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND ROTORS A NUMBER OF TIMES (AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT), AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE A/C UNIT REPAIRED TWICE. THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF THE TRUCK. IS HELD ON BY A HOIST AND CABLE SYSTEM. THE CABLE BROKE ALLOWING THE TIRE TO FALL TO THE GROUND. LUCKILY THE VEHICLE WAS BEING BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE AND NOT GOING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL FOR MY FAMILY OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD! DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY THE VEHICLE OPERATING AT A REDUCED SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE AND APP SENSOR ASSEMBLY OF THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE INITIAL REPLACEMENT, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE AND APP SENSOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACED AGAIN. AFTERWARDS THE SECOND REPAIR, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO PERSIST. SOME GM PRODUCTS, INCLUDING MY 2001 GMC YUKON, DO NOT COME WITH A DOOR AJAR WARNING SYSTEM. GM HAS WRITTEN, INDICATING THAT THERE IS A "STANDARD" DOOR AJAR WARNING SYSTEM WHEN THERE IS NOT. GM HAS MADE AN APPARENT MISREPRESENTATION, FOOLING CUSTOMERS INTO BELIEVING THAT THE COURTESY DOME LIGHT SYSTEM (WHICH TURNS ON WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN) IS A DOOR AJAR WARNING SYSTEM. I HAVE SEEN OTHER INTERNET COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SYSTEM IN GM PRODUCTS. IT POSES A GRAVE DANGER TO OCCUPANTS. IS THERE LEGISLATION REGARDING A DOOR AJAR WARNING SYSTEM AND CAN ANYTHING BE DONE ABOUT GM? BELOW ARE EXAMPLES OF WHAT CAN OR HAS OCCURRED. A DRIVER ENTERS A YUKON ALONG WITH THREE PASSENGERS. THE DOME LIGHT WILL TURN ON NO MATTER WHAT AT THIS JUNCTURE BECAUSE THE DOORS WERE OPENED, SO THERE WOULD NOT BE CAUSE FOR ALARM AS DOORS CLOSE. ONE OF THE THREE PASSENGERS DOES NOT CLOSE HIS/HER DOOR COMPLETELY. THE DRIVER PUTS THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND STARTS THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHT TURNS OFF. NO DOOR AJAR WARNING. ANOTHER EXAMPLE: I OPENED A REAR PASSENGER DOOR OF MY YUKON AND THE DRIVER'S DOOR. THE DOME LIGHT TURNED ON, BECAUSE IT IS APPARENTLY A STANDARD FEATURE FOR THE LIGHT TO COME ON WHEN A DOOR IS OPENED FOR PEOPLE TO GET IN AND OUT. I THEN PUSHED THE PASSENGER DOOR TOWARDS IT'S HOUSING JUST ENOUGH FOR METAL TO TOUCH METAL (OR THE APPARENT SENSOR), BUT STILL "OPEN" IN THAT, WITHOUT ENGAGING THE DOOR OPENING MECHANISM, I COULD STILL PULL IT OPEN. I THEN ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND CLOSED IT (ONLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR). I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE DOME LIGHT TURNED OF. ANYONE COULD HAVE PUSHED OR PULLED THE PASSENGER DOOR OPEN. EXAMPLE: I BEGAN BACKING OUT OF MY HOUSE ONE DAY WHEN ONE OF THE DOORS BEGAN TO OPEN. NO DOOR AJAR LIGHT WAS ON.
