2023 Yukon XL Denali passed the pico scope changed to 0W40 and 3 months later stopped working in the middle of driving just completely shut down. Engine started to smoke had it towed to dealership and they removed my oil filter and found crankshaft bearings in the filter. Needs a new engine now. Bought it brand new only has 45,000 miles on it currently.

Complete engine failure on highway at speeds of 70. The vehicle was inspected per the recall on this engine and it passed inspection prior to purchasing. The vehicle now needs a complete engine replaced per local GMC dealer.

Drove vehicle to town and back, 20 mile round trip. When entering my property, the Engine stalled while pulling into driveway. Upon cranking, was very hard to start. When taking the next trip after engine stall, vehicle died in motion at 60mph approaching a traffic intersection with no warning, leaving very little time to navigate to the shoulder and off the roadway. Engine will not crank over, suspect Engine has failed again, currently at dealer awaiting diagnostics. No lights, warnings, noises or indications of Engine failure were observed during the drive cycle.

ON 2/22/2026 WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM WEST, TEXAS ON FM 2311 WE WERE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH POSTED SPEED LIMIT WHILE WE WERE ENTERING TH ECONSTURCTION ZONE THE VEHICLE SAID START THE CAR WE WERE DRIVING IN THEN I NOTICED WE LOST PROPULSION AND STEERING AND BRAKES WERE VERY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE MY WIFE AND 10 YEAR CHILD WERE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. THIS ROAD HAD NO SHOULDERS AND A VERY STEEP DEEP EMBANKMENT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE WERE TRAPPED BETWEEN TWO HILLS WITH NO WAY TO STAY SAFE OR GET THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE SPOT TO KEEP TRAFFIC FROM HITTING US OR THE CAR WE HAD TO GO STAND DOWN THE BOTTOM OF THE EMBANKMENT TO TRY AND STAY SAFE AS BEST AS WE COULD. THE LEROY TEXAS VOLUENTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME UP ON US AND WAS ABLE TO BLOCK TRAFFIC UNTIL THE CAR WAS TOWED TO OUR HOME THEN TO FREEDOM CHEVROLET IN FAITFIELD TEXAS ON2/23/2026 ON 2/23/2026 WE MADE A CLAIM WITH GM CLAIM#89328131 AND HAVE BEEN IGNORED BY THEM TOLD THEM A ENGONE REPLACEMENT DOES NOT FIX THE SAFTEY ISSUE PERMANTLY SO I AM REPSPECTFULLY REJECTING THE REPAIR TOLD DEALER NOT TO FIX. WE HAD A RECALL DONE ON 11/17/2025 FOR THIS ISSUE AND IT FAILED US WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SEROIOUSLY INJURED. THIS IS A MASSIVE SAFTEY ISSUE WE EVEN ASKED GM FOR A BUY BACK OR A SWAP AND WE CALLED TODAY ON 2/27/2026 AND GM TOLD US JOHN WHOEVER THAT IS WOULD CALL US BACK NEVER CALLED US. GM EVEN ACTED LIKE THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CLAIM NUMBER WHEN I HAVE AN EMAIL ABOUT IT. i AM NOW VERY WORRIED THAT GM WILL TRY TO ERASE ALL THE DATA FROM THE VEHICLE RECORDING DEVICE AKA BLACK BOX. GM MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE I OWN 3 GM VEHICLES WORTH A TOTAL OF ALMOST 300K ALL HAVE A MAJOR SAFTEY RECALL .

Transfercase was casuing the Yukon to serge when in auto mode. No codes warning lights were presented. The dealer did not find any codes but when the transfer case was removed the oil was drained to which metal shavings were found in the oil. After getting the Yukon back the transmission began to exibit the same type of issues. Currently the Yukon is back in the shop.

i had taken care of the recall items in regards to the failing 6.2L engine. I was driving on the highway (going ~70mph) when all of a sudden the car kicked into neutral and the engine shut off. I was able to pull over, but the engine would not turn on. Electronics worked, but I think i had a total engine failure at 42k miles.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
11 complaints
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that the vehicle was losing oil, and the engine was running rough. There was an abnormal burning odor after driving the vehicle. The vehicle received an oil change; however, two weeks later, the oil warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was determined the oil level was approximately 2 quarts low, and another oil change was performed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Mar 27, 2026
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact received notice of NHTSA ID Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, he and his wife observed noises emanating from the engine compartment. On another occasion while driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled, and a "transmission unable to shift" message appeared. The gear selector was placed in park (P), and the vehicle was restarted, after which it drove normally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but it was not diagnosed due the manufacturer only allowing certain vehicle to be repaired at this time, even with the failures that had transpired, and no repairs were made at that time. The contact stated that while driving home in pitch darkness at approximately 30 MPH on a windy road, the vehicle stalled. While attempting to steer the vehicle off the road, it remained halfway in the street and nearly caused over 15 accidents. One near-accident involved a motorcyclist who came around a turn, narrowly missed the vehicle, fell into the street, and was almost hit by oncoming traffic. No police reports were filed as the police could not assist at that time. The contact and her daughter did not sustain injuries but were severely traumatized. It was uncertain if the motorcyclist sustained injuries. The contact stated that when the vehicle was being towed, it would not go into neutral, and the contact observed the frame cracking while being hauled on the tow truck. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

The panoramic sunroof on my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate XL spontaneously exploded while driving westbound on I-20 on March 13. There was no impact from road debris, no vehicles ahead, no overpass, and no external cause. The failure sounded like an explosion or gunshot. Tempered glass shattered with the sunroof in the closed position, showering the interior with glass fragments. Five occupants were in the vehicle at the time. No injuries occurred, but the sudden explosive noise and shower of glass created an extreme distraction and safety hazard while operating the vehicle at highway speed. The incident could easily have caused a loss of vehicle control on the interstate. The component that failed is the factory-installed panoramic power sunroof glass, standard equipment on the Denali Ultimate trim. The vehicle was taken to Lugoff Chevrolet for inspection. The dealer confirmed the glass failure and submitted a request to GM for warranty or goodwill coverage. GM offered to cover only 10% of the repair cost, characterizing the failure as an out-of-warranty wear issue despite the spontaneous nature of the defect. There were no warning signs, cracks, chips, warning lamps, or any indication of a problem prior to the failure. The sunroof was closed at the time. The vehicle has been dealer-maintained with no modifications to the sunroof or roof structure. This is a known industry-wide defect. NHTSA has previously investigated spontaneous sunroof shattering and documented over 4,000 complaints. GM has acknowledged awareness of this issue in other GM vehicles and previously issued corrective actions for sunroof glass on the Buick Regal and Chevrolet Cruze. Other GMC Yukon owners have filed NHTSA complaints describing identical failures. The failed sunroof glass and vehicle are available for inspection upon request.

A recall notice was issued in April 2025. I have tried to get the recall issue fixed but my dealership has stated they cannot touch it yet as parts are not available. I have been told to continue driving my car and use only the oil as stated on the oil cap. My tab renewal notice has the recall listed, my GMC app shows the recall and NHTSA shows the recall. I have not been told when I can get my potentially faulty engine fixed or even looked at.

While on vacation, 2023 gmc started making a very loud fan noise. Brought to two dealerships and displayed code for coolant flow control valve. We were told we can drive it home but to bring it to our dealership. Trying to drive home was a major safety concern. While on the highway our vehicle would suddenly lose speed and the engine would get quite loud. Causing us to pull over and wait…. With 5 kids. It’s been 6 weeks and no word when this will be fixed. All our summer plans are just being shot due to needing a large vehicle and our dealership said we cannot drive it.

During the operation of my 2023 GMC Yukon XL AT4 on [XXX], carbon monoxide (CO) entered the cabin, exposing my children and me to dangerously high levels of CO and causing confirmed carbon monoxide poisoning. We were driving with the engine running and the heater on for approximately 21 minutes when the exposure occurred. Symptoms began to escalate that day and into the proceeding days, including severe headache, stomachache, pallor, chest pressure, shortness of breath, fatigue, and neurological issues. My children, particularly my [XXX] and [XXX] , experienced the most severe effects— both were very ill especially my [XXX] . Unfortunately, we initially did not believe it was possible for CO to enter the vehicle cabin, which delayed early intervention and appropriate medical care. Blood testing 4 days later confirmed elevated carboxyhemoglobin levels in my [XXX] , the only one tested. During the incident, the battery warning light was the first indication of trouble, but soon after, many additional error messages began flashing on the dashboard. The vehicle then overheated, decelerated, and eventually shut down while driving. We were in the vehicle under 21 minutes. Upon inspection after the incident, my husband noted a severed belt and potential pulley issues. The exact cause of the CO intrusion has not yet been identified. The vehicle is available for inspection and unaltered to preserve evidence. I am writing GMC and requesting further investigation by GMC. This incident reflects a severe safety issue with potentially life-threatening implications for GMC owners. CO exposure can cause significant harm, and delayed identification in this case placed my family at substantial risk. Immediate investigation and corrective action are essential to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Time is critical, as this defect could have catastrophic consequences for other unsuspecting drivers and their families. The vehicle has the L87 GM engine. It lost complete power and the engine seized up and would not start again. Fortunately I was able to roll into a neighborhood and get off the main road with no issues. The dealer has confirmed the seized engine and a replacement engine has been ordered with no ETA. There was no prior warning of the failure, besides a shuddering, like I was running out of gas, and then a lose of complete power.

My vehicle was one of the vehicles that was subject to the engine failure recall by GM. I took it to the dealership for the “repair“ where I was told the oil was changed to a different weight. Last night, I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my car just stopped. It still had power, but the engine had stopped. I tried to restart was unable to.
Mar 07, 2026
Vehicle surged, lost all power while driving, switched to neutral and would not restart.

I’ve inserted the question and their answer: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Lifter valve number six failed causing it to shatter and send pieces of it throughout the engine along with other debris into the cylinders. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Vehicle had loud engine knock, pulsation of power, had to pull off on main highways due to loss of power over 400 miles away from home. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, engine was serviced by GM dealership in Baldwinsville, NY for over $8,500. Will attach copy of bill. Now is doing same thing, again. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? GM as stated above. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Check engine light flashed, traction control light came on.

Details of the Issue: Vehicle Model: 2023 GMC Yukon Problem Description: The battery has drained completely on three separate occasions, leaving the vehicle unable to start and in cold weather areas safety is a concern. This occurs even when all lights and accessories are turned off, and the vehicle is parked for a reasonable period of time. The vehicle has been brought to the shop three times to address this issue. During one of these visits, a module failure was identified and repaired. However, the issue has occurred again since that repair, indicating that either the original repair did not fully resolve the problem or there may be additional underlying causes. Frequency: The issue has occurred three times to date, most recently on [insert date of the most recent incident]. Service History: The vehicle has been in the shop three times for this issue, and a module failure was identified and repaired during one of these visits. Troubleshooting Steps Taken: I have ensured that no lights or accessories are left on when the vehicle is parked. The battery terminals have been inspected for corrosion, and the connections are secure. [Include any other steps you’ve taken, e.g., "The battery was tested and confirmed to be in good condition."] Request for Assistance: Given the recurring nature of this issue and the fact that it has not been fully resolved despite multiple service visits, I would like to request the following: A more in-depth diagnostic to identify any additional root causes, including potential parasitic drains, alternator performance, or software-related issues. Confirmation of whether there are any recalls, technical service bulletins (TSBs), or known issues related to the electrical system or battery for this model. Consideration for extended warranty coverage or goodwill assistance to address this issue, as it appears to be related to a manufacturing defect. Since warranty coverage is up my vehicle cost is going to increase due to repeatable issues.

My telecommunications module is no longer working for OnStar, which means I can no longer call if something happened. The Wi-Fi is not working. The vehicle thing is on recall and now my check engine light is on.
Oct 04, 2025
The onboard accident emergency notification system has failed after 2 years. The SOS and Onstar are not functional. Car has no data communication with the network. Was confirmed by Crenwelge Motors in Kerrville Texas. It is a GMC dealer. This is an ongoing problem with many Yukons made from 2022 to 2024. GM has not addressed the issue with a recall and does not have the parts to repair this safety system.

•What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Driver and passenger side rear view mirrors will not hold memory and auto adjust while driving at times. Been to the dealership 5 times. They could not repair and just said that a software update should fix it, but it did not fix it. I will program the mirrors to the preferred settings but when I re-enter the vehicle after shutting it down, it doesn't always retain the memory, and they go to random positions. This usually happens after 5 miles of driving the vehicle. The passenger side mirror will go down so I could see the curbs while in reverse but when I go into Drive, it does not go all the way back up. I will be flying to visit family but the vehicle will be at a different dealership from 3/26/2025 to 4/1/2025. •How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? After adjusting the mirrors, I left my garage with my kids in the car and started driving to our destination. While entering the highway, I went to check my driver’s side rear view mirror and noticed that it was pointed to a random position. In that moment, I was trying to match the highway speed to enter, there was a vehicle in front of me, a vehicle behind me, and a vehicle on the highway exit/entrance lane that I was trying to be cognizant of location to adjust speed properly. I ended up doing multiple shoulder checks which caused me to lose visibility of the vehicle in front of me multiple times. •Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The dealership says they can not reproduce but I was physically able to show the service writer, he saw it happen. I also asked the dealership to drive it around after reprogramming it, but I don’t think they did drive it because after I bring the car home from the dealership, it starts doing it again. I have a service write up where the service writer says he say it occur. •Has the vehicle or component been in

While driving through rain on a long car trip, the wipers suddenly became completely inoperable. We could not see and were on a highway causing a serious safety issue. We had to drive very carefully off the next exit ramp. Tried turning on and off the car, no luck. Tried toggling the rain sense on the display and finally wipers came back on. About 20 miles down the road the same thing happened. Wipers became inoperable. We had to exit highway 4 times to try to wait and toggle for wipers to come back on. Immediately had it checked my a mechanic at our destination and he could find no cause for the incident. Our best guess is there is some computer glitch that needs to be fixed and I predict there will be a recall. Hopefully not before a disaster.

This has occurred multiple times but while driving in the rain the wipers will stop on the middle of the swipe for a couple seconds and then start moving again. It is terrifying since a few seconds of zero visibility when it is raining with no wipers could cause me to run off the road or run into oncoming traffic.
Sep 08, 2025
Multiple times the windshield wipers have randomly stopped working. Other times were on short drives from home and we were able to get home safely but had issues with visibility. Eventually they would come back on and start working again. Yesterday this occurred while we were out of town and driving home on the interstate in traffic and very heavy rain. It was almost impossible to see the road and due to multiple lanes of traffic it was a very dangerous situation. This is an huge safety issue and has now put my families safety in jeopardy on multiple occasions. Other drivers have also reported this issue.
Jul 09, 2025
While in use on several different occasions, the front windshield wipers malfunction. They stop working for hours sometimes even days. This is a hazard especially if you are in the middle of driving and it’s storming. The a few days ago for instance I was driving and all of a sudden they stopped working while I was driving home in the rain, at night. I had to immediately pull onside the road and wait for the rain to stop because I tried everything to get them to start back working. Including observing and trying to make sure it wasn’t the wiper /signal switch. I even went under the hood and checked to see if the fuse had blown or if there was some kind of wiring undone. Still nothing. I have taken it to the dealership and several people complain about the same thing but no remedy has been presented. They just all of a sudden start back to working out of the blue. This is definitely a safety hazard and these wipers or wiper motor should be recalled and fixed immediately in my opinion. Please help. Save some lives before it’s too late. Thanks for helping with this matter.

Windshield wipers periodically fail to operate when turned on. This is but extremely dangerous because it's been impossible to determine what the cause is. When the wipers stop working, I adjust the speed from the intermittent settings to LO and HI and there is no change. I can turn the RainSense setting to OFF and there is no change. The wipers stop working and then after a few minutes, will turn back on. I have taken the vehicle to the multiple GMC dealers for service and they cannot diagnose the problem because it only occurs periodically. They refuse to change parts in an attempt to fix it. I have called GMC Customer Care and their response is "take it to another dealer". I have showed the videos I have captured of this dangerous situation and the dealers don't care. I have the videos and can share (but this site doesn't allow upload of videos). This is extremely dangerous. The wipers have cut out at highway speed in torrential downpour multiple times.

I own a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali. In Nov. 2023, at about 4,000 miles, the vehicle suffered a complete engine and electrical failure at highway speed while I was traveling with my husband and three small children. It suddenly lost all power in the fast lane, including acceleration and engine function. Steering became extremely heavy, consistent with loss of power steering assist, and the electronics shut down. We had to guide the vehicle across traffic while coasting downhill to the shoulder beyond a guardrail. Traffic had to avoid us, creating a serious safety hazard. The vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed and required a complete engine replacement under warranty. After that replacement, additional issues followed. There was an HVAC/defrost concern. In June 2025, the vehicle again became inoperable without warning while parked at a store. It would not start despite repeated attempts, including by a dealership representative. A diagnostic scan produced over a page of error codes, but the dealership could not identify a cause and stated the vehicle was safe. In Dec. 2025, the vehicle engine was inspected under a recall and I was told there were no issues. In Feb. 2026, the vehicle lost heat and was found to have no coolant despite regular maintenance and recent inspection. In Mar. 2026, at about 37,700 miles, the vehicle developed a loud clunking noise while driving. I stopped driving and returned it to the dealership, where I was told the engine had failed again and required another full replacement. The vehicle has now had two engine failures and three engines installed in less than three years. There were no warning lights or prior indications before these failures. I no longer believe this vehicle is safe or reliable for transporting my family.
Apr 08, 2026
I am reporting a catastrophic engine failure involving my 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali, which was subject to a GM-issued recall related to engine failure. On January 10, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., while traveling at highway speed (approximately 65+ mph) on a multi-lane highway, the engine suddenly failed without warning, resulting in a complete loss of power. I was forced to make immediate evasive maneuvers to reach the shoulder while avoiding semi-trucks and other vehicles. The sudden loss of power created an extremely dangerous situation for myself, my passengers, and surrounding traffic. After the engine failure, the vehicle could not be placed into neutral, preventing it from being moved out of traffic if it had stopped in an active lane. This design issue significantly increased the risk of a collision. I was stranded on the roadside for several hours in cold conditions awaiting a tow. The failure was later confirmed by an authorized GMC dealer, who diagnosed the engine as failed and replaced the entire engine assembly. The vehicle and replaced components should be available for inspection through the dealership. The manufacturer had previously issued a recall for this vehicle related to engine failure, and I had requested a buyback prior to this incident due to safety concerns. That request was denied unless the vehicle experienced a failure. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. The only warning message appeared after the engine failed, indicating an engine overheating or “engine hot” condition, which occurred after power was already lost. This incident represents a serious safety defect that resulted in loss of propulsion at highway speed with no advance warning.
Feb 07, 2026
Following a catastrophic engine failure in my 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali, I discovered that the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral once the engine failed. This prevented the vehicle from being moved out of traffic if it had stopped in an active lane. The inability to place the vehicle into neutral after a loss-of-power event creates a serious safety hazard, particularly on high-speed roadways. In the event of a failure occurring in traffic, occupants may be left stranded in a travel lane with no ability to push or reposition the vehicle, significantly increasing the risk of a rear-end or multi-vehicle collision. This condition occurred immediately following the engine failure and was not accompanied by any prior warning or instructions to allow safe vehicle repositioning. I am unaware of any manual or mechanical override that would allow the vehicle to be shifted into neutral under these conditions. This design behavior represents a safety defect because it compounds the danger of a propulsion loss by preventing drivers from removing the vehicle from harm’s way.

2023 Yukon Denali XL 6.2l: GM oil change recall performed (October 2025) and GMC dealership noted no issues. Prior to recall oil change, at aprox 5k miles interval (45K total miles), check engine oil light on dash and was over 1 quart low. Next oil change at aprox 50K miles, no check engine light came on, but certified mechanic drained and measure oil level, 1.5 quarts low. Engine often sounds odd at cold start, ticking sound. Now an oil change is $100 more, due to special oil, but not compensated for extra cost. Brake calibers failed. February 2026, engine light on, then off, then hood latch dash light warning now on and off. Huge safety concerns with the 2023 GMC Yukon 6.2L.

My vehicle’s engine failed for the second time while driving on the road. The first time a few months ago while my wife was driving. The engine failed and brakes failed. Fortunately she was on a back road a coasted to a stop. Car was towed to dealership. They said there was no problem. Received recall letter about a month ago outlining this issue. Yesterday, [XXX], I was driving with my daughter and the car stopped again while driving. I was in traffic and narrowly missed an accident. Gwinnett county police came to the scene and towed the vehicle to the dealership. I am not sure if the female officer made a report. But she requested the tow truck because I was blocking traffic. We often drive on the highway for work commutes. This could have happened and anyone in my family could have been fatally injured. I would like GMC purchase this vehicle back or replace with a safer model comparable or better. The service department called me this morning from Jim Ellis GMC in Buford, Georgia 678-902-8677, 3600 Buford Drive 30519.I was told that there is no recall for my truck. He told me that there is a safety investigation for a recall. I told him I can bring the letter. He decline. I asked for a courtesy vehicle. He said no, he would have to make a report and it would be up to 48 hours. Once it’s reviewed , then I could go to enterprise car rental to pick up a car. Maybe. The first time Rick Hendrick GMC Duluth , Ga 470-822-3779, 3344 Commerce Ave, Duluth, ga had my truck for about 2 weeks. No fix. No courtesy vehicle or rental. Now I’m without my vehicle for unlimited time. The Jim Elis tech, did acknowledge that there is no fix for what is going on. The local GMC dealers are not making this easy or putting the safety of its customers as a priority. These trucks are NOT safe on the road. This truck cost nearly $100,000 and it is not safe to drive.GMC has a record of the 1st service incident and this latest just happened yesterday. I was driving on a highway with my [XXX] son and 2 dogs when without any warning the vehicle just stopped and completely went dead. I was unable to turn on the hazards so I called 911, the police came within minutes and surrounded the vehicle to keep us from being crashed into. The brakes failed to work, the hazard lights would not work, the doors would not open other than the driver door. The police had to help remove my child and 2 dogs from the vehicle through the driver door. The vehicle could not be put into neutral so the police had to tow the vehicle from the middle of the highway. The result could have been deadly. The vehicle was completely dead with absolutely no function. After the police towed it to the police tow facility it was then towed to the GMC dealership I purchased the vehicle from. The dealership is Jim Curly GMC in Keyport NJ. The dealership has had the vehicle since Saturday and is claiming to not know what is wrong with the vehicle. POST-RECALL 25V274 ( & EA25007, EA25001) EXHAUST INTRUSION WITH CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING HAZARD Following the complete engine replacement under GM recall N252494000, my vehicle has developed a severe and persistent exhaust intrusion that allows toxic exhaust fumes, including carbon monoxide (CO), to enter the passenger cabin. CO levels have measured a peak of 83 PPM and consistent reading between 20-37 over multiple tests. PATTERN OF POST-RECALL EXHAUST SYSTEM FAILURES Vehicle has been in for service 6 times, over 100 days, as part of the engine replacement plus (metal found in the oil pan). Since recall, the vehicle has had an exhaust smell and noise rattle issue with the following exhaust system components deemed failed and been replaced: 1. Radiator cap (leaking onto exhaust) 2. Exhaust muffler (replaced TWICE - June 2025 and August 2025) 3. Exhaust clamps (leaking) 4. Left exhaust manifold (warped) Critical Finding: Despite replacement of virtually the entire exhaust system, the defect persists. This suggests a fundamental design or installation defect related to the engine replacement procedure, NOT isolated component failures. Documented Carbon Monoxide Levels: Between January 30 and February 3, 2026, I conducted 15+ tests using a professional-grade Klein Tools ET180 Carbon Monoxide Meter. Results: • Peak reading: 83 PPM • Multiple readings: 40-72 PPM sustained for 6+ minutes directly at my [XXX] daughter's car seat position • Testing method: Vehicle started via remote start, CO meter placed in cabin, readings recorded over 10-15 minute periods Health Impacts to Family: • Wife and [XXX] daughter consistently experience dizziness, headaches, and nausea when riding in vehicle • Daughter now refuses to ride in vehicle because it makes her feel sick • Symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning Independent service station verification on January 30th confirmed "vehicle is dangerous to operate with children inside and needs immediate service." Complete engine failure while operating the vehicle with our children riding along as passengers. The engine failure nearly caused us to wreck. 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali with only 15,000 miles. And now, I am being told that I need a complete engine replacement and that GMC is well aware of these engine failures and the product defects, yet GMC has refused to issue a recall. To add insult to injury, I’m being told by dealership that it may take several months to get a new engine! We will be pursuing legal action.

At approximately 9,000 miles the engine started knocking. I took it to the dealer today and they called to confirm the engine and radiator needed to be replaced as there are metal shavings in the oil. I'm not sure if it is the 6.2L engine lifter issue or if this is something different, nonetheless, engine issues for GMC seem to be systemic based on quick research and seeing posts in forums and social media.

On January 19, 2026, Recall 25V274 was performed on my vehicle, and this was not disclosed to me when I picked up the vehicle from the dealership, Courtesy Buick GMC in Louisville, KY. I only found out when I got home and read through all the service notes. I contacted the dealer on January 19 after I got home, asking for explanation and have not heard back. The Recall Remedy failed. Since the service, symptoms of hesitation, lack of propulsion and low MPG persisted. As of Feb 1, the vehicle has suffered a transmission failure and is unsafe. The dealer told me verbally everything was fine, and in the service notes from Jan 19, they noted vehicle as 'Operating as Designed and Within Spec' despite performing safety recall work."

On May 23, 2025, I purchased a 2023 GMC Yukon XL VIN: [XXX] from the GMC dealership.
At the time of sale, I specifically asked about the active GM engine recall. They assured me the vehicle had been inspected and was unaffected. On October 30, 2025, the engine catastrophically failed on a highway while my family — including my two small children — were in the vehicle. This created a dangerous emergency situation as I had to avoid high-speed traffic. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Multiple issues...I bought the vehicle in Oct. 2023 1. BRAND NEW.... First day I brought the vehicle home there was a whining sound coming from the transmission. The reaction carrier assembly had to be replaced along with all other components. The transmission had to be completely removed from the vehicle and repaired. 2. In May of 2024 I had to have the lifters replaced on one side of the motor. 3. Right now it's in the shop with a blown motor. Yes there's only about 43,000 miles on it and the motor is blown and has to be fully replaced.

My engine stopped while I was driving. Unable to accelerate and the car will not start and is dead. Transmission light and DEF service lights came on. Luckily I was able to pull over to safety, barely. It was towed to the GMC dealership and waiting for it to be looked at. There were NO warning lights that came on previous to when this happened. This is a HUGE SAFETY concern for GM and it needs to be a recall because many, many others have reported the same complaints.

2023 GMC Yukon XL 6.2L V8 experienced progressive engine defects starting in first year. At 7,445 mi (Jan 2023), first dealer visit for engine issues. At 10,315 mi (Apr 2023), Cyl 2 fuel injector failed (internally open), vehicle TOWED to dealer, replaced under warranty. At 14,982 mi (Aug 2023), identical Cyl 7 injector failure (internally open), replaced under warranty. Two identical failures on different cylinders within 15,000 mi indicates systemic defect. By 30,409 mi (Aug 2024), dealer performed engine decarbonization due to carbon buildup from fuel injection issues. Dealer recommended additional decarbs at 38,077 mi and 42,577 mi. At 56,028 mi (Mar 2026), engine suffered catastrophic failure: piston ring failure causing excessive oil consumption and engine destruction, requiring full engine replacement. This matches GM's known 5.3L/6.2L V8 piston ring defect (subject of $150M class action settlement). Defective injectors caused incomplete combustion, carbon buildup on piston rings, ring tension loss, and catastrophic engine failure. Vehicle also has unfixed suspension defect (camber bolt/alignment). Vehicle visited dealer 8+ times. Engine failure poses serious safety risk from sudden power loss at highway speeds. Vehicle available for inspection.

I am formally requesting a complete refund for my vehicle. It has only 6,300 miles, and the remedy provided for the recall does not adequately address the issue. The recall explicitly indicates defects in the engine components (rods/cam shafts) that may lead to a loss of propulsion. Merely inspecting the vehicle and adding thicker oil does not resolve the underlying problem; it only postpones the inevitable expiration of my warranty. Currently, there are no warning lights illuminated, as the vehicle is not driven frequently. The recall raises significant concerns, and GM should be taking more substantial measures than simply applying thicker oil as a solution. This approach feels like a temporary fix rather than a genuine resolution. I have communicated with the dealership, and have been informed there is currently no solution available for this matter. They are awaiting further instructions on how to proceed. I request a more thorough investigation into this issue for an appropriate refund, and I also wish to have this matter documented for future reference.

I am writing to express serious safety concerns regarding our 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali, which has been in our possession for less than two years and has only 24,000 miles. On multiple occasions, while driving at high speeds on the freeway with our four young children, the vehicle unexpectedly lost power and shifted into neutral without warning. This occurred approximately four times on March 9, 2025, when we contacted OnStar for assistance. Despite their response indicating no alerts on their end, we were advised to reach out again if the issue persisted. Unfortunately, the problem did occur again on March 16th, which prompted us to contact OnStar and have the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership for further evaluation. The service department has since informed us that the motor requires replacement. Upon conducting additional research, it seems this may be a known issue with many vehicles manufactured by GM around the same time. We are deeply concerned by this safety hazard, especially given that the malfunction could have led to a life-threatening accident. While we are grateful that we were fortunate enough to avoid any serious consequences, we believe a solution beyond standard repairs is necessary to restore our confidence in the safety of this vehicle. Our family’s well-being and trust in the reliability of our vehicle are of the utmost importance.

We were driving uphill on the highway, about 60 mph when the engine appeared to loose some power for about 10 seconds even though the engine was reving higher, and the ln the engine cut out. We coasted to a stop and then the electrical system was cutting out. I tried to restart the engine but it would not turn over at all, and the car’s electrical was intermittent. There was no warning or error lights before or during the engine failure. Photos provided are the messages on the instrument cluster when attempting to restart the engine. Vehicle was towed to the local GMC dealership, and they are replacing the engine under warranty. No eta on the engine replacement at this time.

The 2023 GMC Yukon had a complete loss of power and engine while driving 65 mph on a highway. The vehicle was unable to restart or be placed into neutral. No previous issues and no indications of failures. No fault codes or lights indicating any issues. Dealership informed me that the engine stopped working and gave an estimate of greater than 4 months for any replacement or repair.

Engine shut off at freeway speeds (65mph) on 2 occasions. Driver was able to coast over to side of freeway both times. On 1st occasion CHP protected vehicle from other traffic on i-5 with safety lights and traffic control. On second occasion, tow truck came quickly and kids were evacuated to prevent heat stroke in 113 degree weather. The first incident was “repaired” with a new starter and battery fuse block at 21720mi, but only lasted to 21814mi before same event occurred. No warning of failure before or after incident, just a dead engine. Second event (7/2/2024) is still being investigated by dealership.

Catastrophic brake system failure. When leaving my home in Baltimore County, MD, at approx. 10:00am on February 3rd, my vehicle started up normally. As I descended down a hill in our neighborhood the brake system failed and the vehicle would not stop. By standing on the brake pedal I slowed enough to put the vehicle in park as I entered an intersection with the main road. I have since learned this is the 3rd GMC Yukon (years 2023-2024) that has had the same brake failure in 24 hours in our community.

Urgent Appeal for Investigation into Braking Capacity Discrepancy Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),I am reaching out to bring a critical matter to your attention regarding the braking capacity of my diesel vehicle, which has not been adequately addressed despite multiple notifications to the service center. The primary concern I wish to highlight is the inadequate braking capacity of my diesel vehicle, which poses a significant safety risk. This concern is especially troubling when compared to my similar gas-fueled vehicle from the same manufacturer, which exhibits notably superior braking performance. After discussing this matter with the service center, their response was that the braking performance is considered normal for my diesel vehicle. However, the evident disparity in braking effectiveness between my diesel vehicle and the gas-fueled one suggests otherwise. This difference is particularly concerning given that both vehicles utilize the same brake system, despite the diesel vehicle's higher weight. In light of these circumstances, I urgently request NHTSA's intervention to investigate this matter promptly. The inadequate braking capacity of my diesel vehicle presents a tangible risk to road safety, affecting not only myself but potentially all drivers on the road.It is crucial that corrective measures are taken swiftly to address this issue and ensure the safety of all drivers. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.Thank you for your immediate action.

Good afternoon, My 2023 GMC Yukon XL AT4 with the 6.2L L87 engine (approx. 61,000 miles) suffered a sudden and complete engine failure at highway speed while I was driving between Canton, OH, and Columbus, OH, on the expressway, returning to my home in Cincinnati. There was no warning before the engine lost all power and propulsion. I was traveling in the left lane of the interstate in moderately heavy traffic. When the engine shut down, I only had steering and braking available to me. In addition to losing all propulsion, I also lost all electronics, and there was no shoulder. The complete dashboard shut down. The only reason there was not a collision was that the traffic around me could see what was happening and slowed down themselves. I coasted on through the onramp and found a shoulder where I had three lanes of traffic on my left and two lanes on my right. Less than two months before this incident, the vehicle had been inspected and serviced by an authorized GM dealer, and no engine issues were identified. I was given no indication that the engine was at elevated risk of failure. After the breakdown, GM and the dealer determined that the failure falls under GM Safety Recall N252494002 / NHTSA Campaign 25V274000, which involves internal engine defects in the 6.2L L87 that can cause a loss of propulsion in certain GM trucks and full‑size SUVs widely used as family vehicles. GM is replacing the engine, extending the warranty, and providing a loaner, but this does not change the fact that my family was exposed to a serious safety risk, nor does it address the possibility that other owners may experience sudden loss of propulsion even after their engines “pass” dealer inspection. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA is aware that a recalled 6.2L L87 engine, inspected shortly beforehand, still failed without warning at highway speed in a primary family‑hauler vehicle, creating a dangerous situation. While driving at approximately 30 mph in moderate traffic on the interstate during a return leg of a 370-mile trip, my vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral and became unresponsive. The dashboard displayed the warning message: "condition not correct for shift," and despite repeated attempts to restart the engine, the vehicle would not engage. Although the electrical system remained active, I had no propulsion. Critically, the vehicle became immobilized in a **very dangerous curve on the interstate**, presenting an extreme safety risk to myself and others. The car could not be manually shifted into neutral for towing, prompting Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to declare the location unsafe. I was stranded there for over three hours, after dark, in a vulnerable and exposed position. During the forced tow process, two rear tires were destroyed and the two front tires sustained major damage. In the days leading up to this incident, the vehicle had also shown signs of malfunction, such as delayed acceleration from a stop and occasional lurching forward — symptoms consistent with the defect described in the recall.

Speed control became stuck and I had to hit my breaks to stop acceleration. Vehicle stopped shifting while driving down the road periodically. Warning collision lights and traction control lights randomly come on with nothing in front of vehicle. Yesterday vehicle would not start or even unlock. When I did get the vehicle to start by manually unlocking it and trying over and over it would not go forward or backward although the engine did rev up. All warning lights were on including traction control and check engine. It did randomly start moving but the “service steering column” light and check engine light are still on . The car periodically revs up while going down a hill when it needs to downshift instead. It has completely shut off driving down the road through town and stopped. I had to hurry and turn it back on as there were cars behind me. It’s a 2023 and I don’t feel safe driving it with my kids.

At 9,900 miles my safety camera system failed which disabled the cruise control and all safety features that used the camera. Car was out of service for nearly two weeks and subsequently fixed by the dealer under warranty at no charge. At 11,300 miles I was driving on an interstate highway in the left lane at rush hour, without warning the car stopped accelerating the car shifted into neutral and totally lost power. It was a very dangerous situation with me in the left lane in heavy traffic. I am a skillful driver and thankfully I was able to make it off the travel lanes on the highway. The temperature was 18 degrees at the time and I had to wait outside for a tow truck. The engine seized without warning or noise and this presents a severe danger to the driver of the vehicle and other vehicles on the highway. There was a substantial possibility that other vehicles could not avoid me as I was exiting the travel lanes. There was also a substantial possibility that the vehicle would simply be in the travel lane stopped on a divided highway.

My vehicle stalled while driving on a busy highway & I had no option but to pull over, which left me & my family in a very dangerous position. Had to remove my daughter's wheelchair onto a tow truck as the vehicle had no power to use the hoist for her powerchair. Again, on the side of a busy road! Towed the vehicle to a GM dealership, who stated there was catastrophic engine failure & the engine had to be replaced. Had no way to transport my daughter until I got a new engine since her hoist was stuck at the dealership. This was our original vehicle, until the sold me another one with the same defect (2024 Yukon for MORE money!). That vehicle was reported in Complaint 11657786.

Driving in my newer GM Yukon Ultimate at 13k miles on the freeway. Vehicle with no warning shuts down while going 60mph in the middle lane. Was able to safely steer the car to the side of the road to avoid a collision. Vehicle lost all electrical contact. could not shift into neutral to tow. Turns out vehicle engine had to be replaced. GM approved a new engine replacement and are planning to return the vehicle back to put on the road. The vehicle is unsafe, at 5k miles, 6 months prior, the vehicle had to have the steering system replaced due to failure as well. Online research shows that others are having the same issue with failed engines on these GM vehicles and models.

There have been several issues for which I had to take my vehicle to the dealer. I did the engine oil recall. Then 4 months later my engine was destroyed. I’ve had several issues with oil leaks. I had an issue with my running boards a few times. And I’ve had an ongoing issue that the dealer hasn’t been able to fix - a water leak (I believe stemming from the moonroof), water gets into my vehicle, on my floorboard, and behind the dash. I’ve called to record these incidents with the dealer and taken it in several times, but they are never able to duplicate it, but they have witnessed the water leakage after the incidents (which happens during heavy downpours, and isn’t all the time because my vehicle is in the garage when I’m not at work).

Summary of Violations 1. Misrepresentation of Vehicle Model Year I was sold a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali that the dealership falsely represented as a brand-new 2024 model, including on the key-tag. This violates Texas Occupations Code §2301.351(a) and DTPA §17.46(b)(5), (7), (24). 2. Unauthorized Add-Ons & Hidden Charges The dealership added 8,000 in accessories and 26,000 in warranty products without my consent. This violates DTPA §17.46(b)(12). 3. Financing Fraud I was promised 1% financing, but the dealership charged a significantly higher rate at closing without disclosure. This violates the Truth in Lending Act (TILA). 4. Warranty Refusal & Pre-Existing Damage Although the vehicle had defects and mechanical issues at delivery, the dealership refused to repair them under warranty unless I paid. This violates the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. 5. Failure to Provide Required Documentation The dealership refused to provide complete purchase documents, violating Texas Administrative Code §215.142. 6. Pattern of Evasion I personally visited the dealership three times, yet management refused to correct any misconduct. 7. The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated, and the message "You Have no Brakes - Do Not Drive Over 40 MPH" was displayed. The contact allowed the vehicle to roll to a stop. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure persisted. The contact parked the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had not caused an accident because the contact was driving early in the morning and there was less traffic on the road. The contact stated that her husband started the vehicle later in the day, and the warning lights were off. The vehicle was driven to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that several DTCs were retrieved, including a DTC for brake failure; however, the flow chart from the manufacturer instructed to first replace the battery and then reset the codes. The dealer replaced the battery, reset the codes and test-drove the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired and returned to the contact. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and supported the dealer's assessment. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

On the day in which the first occurrences happened, the car rental company representative from Sixt, 3way connected me with a mechanic from Annex who advised washing the vehicle to ensure the sensors were clean. I did proceed to wash the vehicle on 1.25.25. This same company, Annex Automotive, then evaluated the vehicle on 1.29.25 after emergency breaking occurrences continued of which [XXX] was the worst. On [XXX] there were no vehicles in front of or behind us nor to the sides of us and the roads were completely clear. It was also dark out. Vehicle went to GM for recall repairs on 02/24/25 the morning after when I cranked my car it was dead. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
1 complaint
When driving in a parking lot, due to the design of the cruise control set switch, it is very easy to unintentionally set the adaptive cruise control. Specifically, when maneuvering in a parking lot at low speeds (below 5mph) and allowing the wheel to return to center by spinning in your hands, the cruise control switch which is a dial/lever that sticks out beyond the surface of the wheel, catches on your hand and engages the cruise. This sets the cruise control target speed to a 15 MPH even if you are currently going slower than that. The vehicle then accelerates on its own at a fairly aggressive pace to get up to 15mph. You can of course hit the brakes and cancel the cruise control, but in a tight parking lot scenario this unintended acceleration could easily cause you to strike another vehicle, obstacle, or pedestrian. The cruise control on this vehicle is enabled by default on start up and the single action of hitting the set switch/dial engages the cruise and accelerates sharply even if you had not previously used cruise in that ignition cycle. This seems like a stupid design and dangerous, and would be very easy to fix with a software update to not let the cruise become enabled below 15mph. We did not have the dealer investigate because this appears to be the normal operation of the cruise control system. There were no unusual warning lamps. This has happened several times and also has happened to my wife while driving.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I recently purchased my vehicle and after already transporting my family of 5, including my newborn child for several days, I noticed that my parking sensors were not working and I began receiving a message of my dash that parking assist, rear braking and auto park assist were unavailable. I reached out to GM around 4/4 informing them of the issue and they said they didn't have any recalls or retrofits for my vehicle and advised me to take it to a dealer's service deparment to be reviewed. After having an issue with Simpson GMC of Buena Park of failing to even review my issue for a week, I took it to Penske GMC of Cerritos on 4/17 and they determined that during manufacturing of the vehicle, someone failed to connect the module that controls my parking sensors. They had to remove the front fascia of my vehicle to connect the module for everything to work correctly. This has forced me to call into question the quality control of GM vehicles and also concerns me that a car manufacturer would deliver a vehicle with such gross negligence where a consumer would not know the safety features they rely on to keep themselves and their family safe do not work. GM Customer Service also never followed up on my issue even after calling and emailing them several times, which again calls into question how General Motors operates their business.

While driving in a gravel driveway, the window curtain airbags and the middle console airbags deployed, with no collision what so ever causing injury to the driver and should you have a child this could have been very damaging as the airbags came out in all the way back through the vehicle. This incident was inspected by police and fire as OnStar called them as it detected a collision, and without the vehicle being moved from the location the officer said there is nothing that should have caused the airbags to deploy, there is absolutely nothing here in this driveway that could have possible caused airbag deployment, The running boards go in and out, even when on the interstate constantly, and when backing up or going forward at times, and especially in a gravel driveway your automatic breaks will stop you abruptly, so fast that your seat belt will lock up on your and thrust you forward and backwards. The rear entertainment system will screen at times when turning it on will stay black and you have to keep turning it on and off to get a screen to show. No warning lamps or messaging with any of these cases.
