The contact owned a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while in the right land, making a right turn, a bicyclist was coming towards the front passenger side of the vehicle however, to avoid injuring the bicyclist, the contact merged over the lane divider and hit the ground with force. The contact then stated that all the driver’s side air bags failed to properly deploy. The contact stated that the steering wheel cracked, and air bag inflator deployed from the steering wheel and the airbag deflated. As a result, the contact sustained injury to the chest and her lower back. Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence then towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss by the insurance. The dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

Engine has a crack block on the front. It is a known issue but it is past the warranty that honda offered. I think they should extend the warranty more.

As I was driving my car home on 8/31, I looked at the temperature gauge and saw my car was overheating. I make sure to check my temperature gauge periodically while driving so I am positive it’s the first time it’s popped up. I tried to pull over ASAP, but was in nonstop traffic and the car stopped moving. No lights were shown on the dashboard. I had recently gotten an oil change end of July when I purchased the car. Car was inspected by the state, 7/17/23 and passed. Car had a complete vehicle inspection the end of July as well and passed with flying colors. Car was diagnosed to have a cracked engine block by Conrad’s. My oil and coolant mixed. It has not been seen by a Honda manufacturer. No inspection done by insurance.

BOUGHT THE CAR 2 DAYS AGO. DID TEST DRIVE IT WITH NO NOTABLE ISSUES. I DID NOT TAKE IT ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA AND THE SALESMAN INSISTED NOT TO GO ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION OUTSIDE THE DEALERSHIP. SO ON THE WAY HOME I DID TAKE THE HIGHWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOLLOWING MY HUSBAND OUT OF THE AREA UNTIL I GOT TO FAMILIAR TERRITORY. THEN HE GOT BEHIND ME. WELL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I FELT THE CAR SWAYING SIDE TO SIDE HAVING TROUBLE STAYING BETWEEN THE LINES. DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT AND WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP THE BACK END OF THE CAR MOVED ALL OVER THE PLACE. LIKE MANY OF THE TIRE WEAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS VEHICLE, REAR TIRES DEVELOPED IRREGULAR FLAT SPOTS, AND REAR TIRES WERE VERY NOISY. TALKED WITH KEN IN TORRANCE, CA (AMERICAN HONDA) BUT HONDA REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY. AFTER TWO SETS OF TIRES IN 33,000 MILES, KEN AGREED TO PAY 50% OF NEXT TIRE PURCHASE. IF THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, THEN WHY WOULD KEN AGREE TO PAY HALF OF NEXT TIRE PURCHASE?

ONE OF THE CONTROL ARMS, I BELIEVE IT IS CALLED, WENT BAD AND CRACKED. THE FRONT ONES WENT BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, BUT WERE UNDER WARRANTY. THESE WOULD BE THE ARMS THAT CONNECT AND HOLD THE TIRES/BRAKES BUT NOT THE SUSPENSION. I MAY HAVE REFERRED TO THEM WRONG, BUT THEY WENT BAD NONETHELESS.

The paint is peeling off from the vehicle, exposing the body to rust and reduce the vehicle lifetime and durability significantly. When I contacted Honda about the issue, they told me it is a Paint defect from the manufacturing plant. They asked me to get a quote from the dealer to fix the issue, after getting the quote they denied the request saying it is outside the warranty period even when they agreed it is an issue occurred at the plant level. Please look into this and issue a recall.

While driving on the freeway the sun visor, from Ezzy (top selling sun visor replacement brand on Amazon) fell out of its holder onto my hands on the steering wheel and then onto my lap which caused me to swerve slightly. Another incident involving the passenger side sun visor happened when my passenger flipped down the visor and the plastic exploded everywhere and the visor split in two.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, there was smoke coming from underneath the hood, and the vehicle was overheating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled into a gas station, where her son added coolant to the vehicle. The contact was able to drive to her destination. Additionally, the contact stated that upon parking the vehicle, she noticed a trail of coolant in the driveway and there was no coolant in the reservoir. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine block was cracked, and coolant was leaking through the crack. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to another independent mechanic, for second opinion, and the same determination was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under Honda Campaign Number: 10-048 because the campaign had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, he noticed a strong coolant odor and that the temperature gauge was showing that the engine was overheating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that coolant was leaking into the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine block was fractured, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer sent a diagnostic report to the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer declined to cover the repair and informed the dealer that an extended warranty coverage notice for the engine, was previously sent to the contact. The contact stated that he had not received the notice. The contact followed up with the manufacturer, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 272,906.

I WAS REAR ENDED AT LOW SPEED AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER. THE BUMPER WAS REPLACED AND WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK, I STARTED NOTICING CHANGES IN VISION, HEADACHES, AND HEARING LOSS. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN I STARTED FEELING FAINT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THOUGHT I WAS WELL ENOUGH TO DRIVE. I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND STARTED TO FEEL WORSE. MY VISION DIMMED, MY LEFT HAND STARTED CRAMPING, I STARTED SWEATING AND SHAKING, AND A VERY NEARLY FAINTED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND CALL 911 AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE DOCTORS COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH ME. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, I HAD ISSUES WITH FORGETFULNESS, DISORIENTATION, AND IMPAIRED VISION AND HEARING. MY ROOMMATE, WHO DROVE THE CAR HOME FROM WHERE I LEFT IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL, ALSO FELT STRANGE AFTER SHE DROVE IT. I'VE SINCE BEEN TO A NEUROLOGIST AND A CARDIOLOGIST AND NEITHER CAN FIND AN ISSUE WITH ME AND AGREE IT MUST BE SOMETHING RELATED TO THE CAR. THE LONGER I'VE BEEN AWAY FROM THE CAR, THE BETTER I'VE FELT. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND A DEALERSHIP AND NEITHER CAN FIND THE SOURCE OF THE ISSUE. AFTER 51,000+ MILES, THE RIGHT ENGINE MOTOR MOUNT ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC 2-DOOR COUPE FAILED. THE ENGINE VIBRATED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD OR WHEN I FIRST STARTED IT IN THE MORNING. THERE WERE MINIMAL PROBLEMS AFTER THE ENGINE WARMED UP. TWO REPAIR SHOPS SAID THE MOTOR MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE MOUNT WITH A NEW ONE FROM THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA. HE SAID THE DEALERSHIP HAD SOME IN STOCK, WHICH HE SAID WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL BECAUSE THESE MOUNTS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. THE PARTS PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT EVEN HAVE TO LOOK UP THE PART NUMBER, HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS NEEDED. BOTH OF THESE SUGGEST THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM, AND THE HONDA REPLACEMENT PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A MOTOR MOUNT ON ANY OF THE CARS I HAVE OWNED IN THE LAST 45+ YEARS. MY CAR WILL NOT OPEN WHICH CAUSES A HUGE CONCERN BECAUSE IF I GO OUT, THEN I HAVE TO LEAVE A DOOR UNLOCKED BECAUSE IT'S NOT GUARANTEED THAT I CAN GET INTO MY CAR AGAIN AND PEOPLE COULD POTIENTIALLY THINK THAT I AM TRYING TO BREAK INTO MY OWN CAR. WHEN I DRIVE, THE LOCKS UNLOCK AND LOCK AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. THIS STARTED GETTING WORSE AFTER I GOT AN OIL CHANGE AND AS I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT PULLING OUT, MY CAR COMPLETELY DIED. I COULD NOT MOVE IT OR ANYTHING. I DROVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT WITH IT DYING AND THEN RESTARTING IT. Car experiences 'judder' which is identified in the Honda Civic Hybrid Service Technician's Manual as an identified issue with this transmission. Their suggestion is to change the transmission fluid, which does not fix the problem. When the car starts from a complete stop it shudders and shakes and does not engage the transmission so there is no acceleration, leaving the car in a position to be hit by traffic. This car has had this problem from about 50k. There is a TSB 08-014 which Honda will not allow a consumer to access, even though this is a documented problem. There are numerous complaints on this website regarding this issue. The dealership and Honda corp state there is no safety recall for this VIN and therefore the problem does not exist, even though it does. There are no warning messages and the vehicle does not recognize there is a problem. It is worse when going up a hill or accelerating rapidly. If the transmission fluid is changed it improves slightly for a limited time, usually less than 1,000 miles.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (LAMACCHIA HONDA, 932 W GENESEE ST., SYRACUSE, NY, 13204), BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THERE WERE TIMES THAT THE CONTACT CALLED AND WENT TO THE DEALER FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. OVER TIME, THE POPPING NOISE WORSENED AND THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY UNABLE TO MOVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17.

TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT AFTER 105000 MILES APPROXIMATELY; MECHANIC TOLD ME HE COULD ESTIMATE HOW MUCH LONGER I HAVE IF IT WAS SOMETHING THAT HE SAW MORE OFTEN, BUT THIS ISN'T SOMETHING HE SEES OFTEN. THE VEHICLE WOULD RUN HEAVY, AND I WAS TOLD AN ENGINE MOUNT WAS BAD AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THERE IS STILL A TENDENCY FOR THE CAR TO VIBRATE AND SHAKE AS I DRIVE BETWEEN 17-30 MPH, AND ATTRIBUTE THIS TO THE ISSUE OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE ALSO DOES NOT SHIFT WELL, AND CLICKS ON CERTAIN SHIFTING POINTS. DEALERSHIP STATED THE CAR IS OUTSIDE OF THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH THIS ISSUES STARTED PRIOR TO THE END OF THAT WARRANTY.

CAME OUT TO START THE CAR IN MORNING BUT CAR BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. JUMP STARTED CAR AND DROVE TO WORK. CAME BACK AFTER WORK AND CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. JUMP STARTED CAR. TOOK TO A AUTO PARTS STORE. CHECKED BATTERY WHICH TESTED GOOD. CAME HOME CLEANED BATTERY CABLES, TIGHTENED AND RECHARGED BATTERY. IN MORNING, BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. SUSPECT CAR HAS ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT IS KILLING THE BATTERY. CAR HAS APROX. 120K MILES ON IT AND HAD ENGINE REPLACED AT 50K DUE TO CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK (COVERED UNDER RECALL)

MY HONDA WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE WHEN I TRIED TO START IT THE KEY WOULD NO LONGER GO INTO THE IGNITION. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH. HAD IT REPLACED AND NOW THE REMOTE KEY WON'T WORK ON THE DOORS.

THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC BROKE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND TOLD THIS WAS A WARRANTY ITEM AND THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE ABOUT A YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED THE CARE IN 2011 AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A RECALL ITEM, AND HAD IT REPLACED FOR FREE. I WAS TOLD THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WOULD COST $70.00 PLUS TAX TO FIX. I HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO HAVE IT DONE, SINCE I DON'T INTEND TO KEEP THE CAR MUCH LONGER. IT CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP AGAINST THE ROOF AND INTERFERES WITH LINE OF SIGHT AT STOP SIGNS, ETC. IF I MOVE IT TO THE SIDE WINDOW THEN THE SUN HITS ME DIRECTLY IN THE EYES, CREATING ISSUES ALSO. THANK YOU.

THE SUN VISORS IN THIS CAR ARE A SEVERE PROBLEM AS THEY BREAK EASILY THROUGH NORMAL AVERAGE USE AND WILL NOT REMAIN UPRIGHT. THEY FALL DOWN AND HANG IN THE DRIVER FIELD OF VISION CREATING HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS POSING INJURY TO DRIVER AND ANYONE ELSE NEARBY. THE VISORS ARE NOT CHEAP TO REPLACE($50 TO $100 EACH) AND THE REPLACEMENTS ALSO BREAK IN A SHORT TIME. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED ONCE AND BOTH ARE BROKEN AGAIN. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW JUST LIKE THE ALLOY MIXTURE IN THE LOWER ENGINE BLOCK THAT CAUSES CRACKING IN THE COOLANT PASSAGES IN THE BLOCK (LOOK IT UP). HONDA IS SUPPOSED TO BE A QUALITY PRODUCT AND IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE QUALITY IS ERODING AND HONDA'S LACK OF TAKING RESPONSIBILITY AND ADMITTING ERROR AND TAKING ACTIONS TO CORRECT FURTHER REFLECTS POOR COMMERCE AND CARE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS IN DEPTH BECAUSE THIS ISSUE HAS SATURATED THE WEB WITH COMPLAINTS AND NO ONE SEEMS TO BE DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I BOUGHT MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC LX IN JUNE 2008. AT 15,000 MILES I HAD A BUNCH OF BRAKE PROBLEMS (LOUD NOISES, DIFFICULTY STOPPING). IN JULY 2012, I STARTED NOTICING A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I WOULD TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. A FRIEND OF MINE WHOSE HUSBAND OWNS A GARAGE TOLD ME THEY HAD RECEIVED A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THIS SAME THING. IT WAS DATED JULY 16, 2009, SERV. BULL. # 262286. (STEERING GEARBOX MOUNTING BOLTS NOT TORQUED CORRECTLY). I CALLED HONDA'S CUST. SER. #. SHE INFORMED ME I COULD TAKE IT TO MY HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD INSPECT IT FOR ME FOR 75.00 I ASKED HER SINCE THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN THEY HAD SENT OUT TO GARAGES, WHY I HAD TO PAY A FEE? SHE SAID THAT WAS PROTOCOL. I ASKED THAT IF IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS ON THE SERVICE BULLETIN IF I WOULD BE REIMBURSED. SHE WOULD NOT SAY YES, ONLY SAYING, "POSSIBLY." I DECIDED NOT TO GO THAT ROUTE. MY FRIEND'S HUSBAND TOLD ME TO BRING MY CAR IN AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT THE MOUNTING BOLTS TO SEE IF THEY WERE TORQUED CORRECTLY (FOR FREE). THIS WAS THE SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUE, AND SOUNDED LIKE THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. HE INSPECTED IT AND SAID THEY WERE TORQUED CORRECTLY, BUT IT IS STILL MAKING THE NOISE A YEAR LATER. IT IS USUALLY WHEN I TURN SHARPLY LEFT OR RIGHT. MY CONCERN I EXPRESSED TO MY FRIEND'S HUSBAND WHO LOOKED AT MY CAR WAS THAT I DIDN'T WANT THE PROBLEM TO BE TEARING SOMETHING ELSE UP, AND I DIDN'T WANT SOMETHING TO FALL OUT AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD, OR FOR MY STEERING MECHANISM TO FAIL AS I WAS DRIVING. MY HONDA CIVIC EXPERIENCED SEVERE REAR TIRE WEAR ON THE INSIDE EDGES ABOUT 10 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE (AS A NEW VEHICLE). IN OCTOBER 2009, THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS AS DESCRIBED IN HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001, WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN REPLACED BY SB 13-047 (ATTACHED). THE ARM REPLACEMENT WAS INTENDED TO RETURN THE TIRE CAMBER ANGLE TO ZERO (SEE ALIGNMENT CRITERIA IN LAST PAGE OF TSB) SO THE THE WHEEL WOULD BE PERPENDICULAR TO THE ROAD, AND NO LONGER CAUSE WEAR AT THE INSIDE EDGES. AT A RECENT INSPECTION, THE TIRES WERE AGAIN FOUND TO BE WORN AT THE INSIDE EDGES: THERE WAS ABOUT 1/4 INCH OF TREAD ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE, BUT THE CORDS WERE SHOWING ON THE INSIDE EDGES. I VALIDATED THAT THE DEALER HAD ACTUALLY INSTALLED NEW CONTROL ARMS (THEY ARE MARKED WITH A "C" AS DESCRIBED IN THE BULLETIN). USING A LEVEL, I DETERMINED THAT THE TOP EDGE OF THE WHEEL WAS LEANING INWARD ABOUT 9/16" INCH, SO IT IS APPARENT THAT THE REPLACEMENT ARMS DO NOT CORRECT THE CAMBER ANGLE PROBLEM. IT IS TRUE THAT THE TIRE WEAR RATE HAS BEEN REDUCED BY THE REPLACEMENT ARMS. HOWEVER, SINCE THE INSIDE EDGE WEAR IS NOT OBVIOUS WITHOUT CRAWLING UNDER THE CAR, THIS CONDITION COULD LEAD TO TIRE FAILURE. I CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY INSTALLING AFTERMARKET CONTROL ARMS THAT HAVE A LENGTH ADJUSTMENT, WHICH ALLOWS THE CORRECT CAMBER TO BE ACHIEVED DURING ALIGNMENT. AS SHOWN ON PAGE 1 OF THE SB, THE HONDA ARM HAS NO LENGTH ADJUSTMENT.

I OWN A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. I PURCHASED A SET OF ECOPIA EP 422 TIRES ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD THREE FLAT TIRES. MY FIRST FLAT HAPPENED WHILE ON MY WAY HOME. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 70 MPH. (MY TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE ON MY DASH IS FAULTY SO I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT WHEN IT CAME ON SINCE I ROUTINELY CHECK MY TIRE PRESSURES.) ABOUT A MINUTE LATER I NOTICED THE ROAD NOISE SEEMED LOUDER THAN NORMAL. VERY QUICKLY I STARTED TO FEEL MY TIRE BECOMING FLAT AND MY CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN ON ITS OWN. AS A YOUNG WOMAN I FELT UNSAFE PULLING OVER ON A DARK ROAD IN THE RAIN, AND IN A LOCATION THAT I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH. I PULLED OFF THE NEXT EXIT AND DROVE VERY SLOWLY UNTIL I COULD PARK IN A WELL LIT GAS STATION. HOWEVER BY THIS TIME TIRE WAS TOTALLY SHREDDED. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN THE TIME SPAN OF 3 MINUTES, THERE WAS LITTLE WARNING OR TIME TO REACT. WHEN I GOT MY SECOND FLAT I WAS DRIVING WHEN IT LOST AIR. THE THIRD FLAT OCCURRED WHEN IT WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. I DROVE TO SCHOOL WITH NO PROBLEMS, AND ABOUT TWO HOURS LATER I FOUND THAT MY TIRE HAD LOST IT'S AIR. IN THE LASTTWO INSTANCES, MY TIRE BECAME FLAT WITH NO APPARENT CAUSE; NO NAILS, TEARS, OR GASHES. I HAVE THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY WHICH IS WHY I'VE STAYED WITH THIS BRAND, HOWEVER I AM CONSIDERING SWITCHING TO TIRES THAT ARE A LITTLE MORE RELIABLE. THE HEAT SHIELD IN THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL NOW MAKES A NOISE AND I BELIEVE IT WAS DAMAGED DUE TO THE TIRES UNRELIABILITY. EVEN WHEN THE TIRES WERE IN GOOD CONDITION, THE ROAD NOISE AT HIGHER SPEEDS WAS VERY LOUD AND I FOUND THEM TO HAVE POOR TRACTION IN RAIN AND WINTER CONDITIONS. IN THE RAIN, I HAVE TO DRIVE SLOWER THAN OTHER DRIVERS BECAUSE MY CAR WILL HYDROPLANE WHEN IT GOES OVER THE SMALLEST PUDDLE. IN THE WINTER, MY CAR WOULD FISH TAIL CONSTANTLY EVEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT VERY LOW SPEEDS. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THIS BRAND OF TIRE AT ALL.

GANLEY SUBARU OF BEDFORD, OH (GANLEY BEDFORD IMPORTS, INC.) SOLD THIS PRE-OWNED 2008 HONDA CIVIC SI WITH NO TPMS SENSORS. THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT WAS ON, AND GANLEY SUBARU STATED THAT ONLY AN "UPDATE" (TO THE ECU) WAS NEEDED DUE TO A TIRE REPLACEMENT OF ALL FOUR TIRES, WHEN IN REALITY THEY ALLOWED A VEHICLE WITH NO TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SENSORS TO BE SOLD.

PREMATURE TIRE WEAR. SINCE 2008 WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR, I HAVE PUT ON FIVE SETS OF FOUR TIRES FOR A CAR THAT NOW HAS 140000. EACH SET WAS FROM NAME BRAND TIRE COMPANIES LIKE MICHELIN, BRIDGESTONE, ETC. IN ADDITION, EACH SET'S MILEAGE WARRANTY RANGING FROM 50000 TO 80000 MILES. AT 140000 MILES WITH FIVE TOP RATED TIRE SETS, I HAVE NOT REASON TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS TIRE COMPANY. INSTEAD, IT CLEARLY LOOKS LIKE HONDA'S DESIGN FAULT. EVEN MULTIPLE MECHANICS HAVE POINTED OUT THE SAME TO ME. I ALSO HAVE ADDITIONAL VEHICLES IN THE HOUSE HOLD THAT I DRIVE AND I DON'T HAVE THE SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THEM. SO THAT ELIMINATES DRIVER AND DRIVING CONDITION AS AN EXCUSE THAT HONDA MAY LIKE TO HIDE BEHIND.

I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES ON MY HONDA CIVIC PREMATURELY BECAUSE OF "FLAT SPOTS" THAT WOULD APPEAR AND LEAD TO EXTREME NOISE INSIDE THE CABIN WHILE DRIVING. I'VE RESEARCHED AND ASKED THE TIRE STORES AND THEY BASCIALLY STATED THAT THEY SEE THIS A LOT IN THE 2008 CIVICS. IF I DIDN'T ROTATE THE TIRES EVERY COUPLE OF THOUSAND MILES THIS WOULD HAPPEN OVER AND OVER. AFTER REPLACING ALL FOUR TIRES RECENTLY THE NOISE THIS TIME DID NOT GO AWAY, IN FACT IT WAS EVEN LOUDER THAN IN THE PAST. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT'S THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. THIS CAR HAS 83,000 MILES ON IT! I LOOKED UP WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT AND IT SEEMS THERE WAS A FACTOR RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR 2006-2007 MODELS, BUT NOT THE 2008. IT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE WHEEL BEARING PROBLEM IN THE 06-07 MODELS LEAD EARLY TIRE WEAR AND TO THE NOISE PROBLEMS I EXPERIENCED AS WELL. I'M SURE NOW THAT THE BEARINGS WHERE PROBABLY THE MAJOR PROBLEM FROM THE BEGINNING AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPACED THOUSANDS OF MILES AGO. AGAIN, THIS CAR ONLY HAS 83,000 MILES ON IT. The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, depressing on the brake pedal to the floorboard but failed to bring the vehicle to a stop. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated he lost control of the vehicle, bounced off the retaining wall, and crash into another vehicle. The contact did not sustain any injuries but his front passenger sustain injuries on her right foot and discomfort in her back/neck. The front passenger sought medical attention at a near ER. The contact stated the other vehicle had two people injured but was unaware of the details or if they sought any medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to two different towing lots. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. THERE ARE SEVERAL RUBBER SEALS IN BRAKE CALIPERS. IF A RUBBER PART FAILS, WATER WILL ENTER CRITICAL PARTS CAUSING THEM TO RUST AND SEIZE. THIS MAY RESULT IN UNSAFE BRAKE OPERATION OR BRAKE FAILURE. ON OUR CAR THIS CAUSED A BRAKE CALIPER TO SEIZE CAUSING UNEVEN BRAKING. AN INSPECTION FOUND ALL THE RUBBER PARTS IN THE AFFECTED CALIPERS HAD DISINTEGRATED. THE CALIPERS WERE APPROXIMATELY 22 MONTHS OLD. CLEARLY INFERIOR RUBBER MATERIAL WAS USED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THESE PRODUCTS.

I SENT A FORMAL COMPLAINT TO THE HONDA CEO AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. BRAKES SLIP WHEN RIDING ON ROUGH SURFACES OR MAKING A SHARP TURN ON A STEEP INCLINE. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED; HOWEVER, THE BRAKE PROBLEM PERSISTS. ONCE I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY STOPPED; I ALSO FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND ROLLED INTO THE INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE ON THE ROAD. IF THE BRAKES ARE HIT TWICE (LIKE DOUBLE CLUTCHING) THEY DO ENGAGE. THE COMPLAINT TO HONDA FAILED TO PRODUCE A POSITIVE RESULT. THAT SAME ROARING NOISE IS BACK AND I WENT IN FOR MY ROUTINE CHECK UP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TIRES NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 61285 MI. DECEMBER 31, 2011. ONE TECH GUY HINTED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR-UPPER CONTROL ARM CAUSING POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WITH CERTAIN CIVICS. IF THIS IS THE CASE, I WANT IT CORRECTED, AND I WANT MY TIRES REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME. SEVERE TIRE CUPPING, EARLY TIRE FAILURE. DEALER UNABLE TO FIX CAUSE OF PROBLEM, THEY STATE THAT IT RESULTS FROM A DESIGN FLAW (NON-ADJUSTABLE CAMBERS/ARMS). TIRES FAILED AT 20,000 MILES AND ARE FAILING AGAIN AT 44,000 MILES. I HAD TO FIGHT WITH HONDA TO GET THEM TO GO 50/50 ON THE FIRST SET OF REPLACED (DUNLOP) TIRES. THEY ARGUES THAT I HAD ENJOYED USING THEM FOR 1/2 THEIR LIFE, SO 50% WAS THEIR MAXIMUM DOLLAR MATCH. THEY LOOKED THE CAR OVER AND SAID TIRES HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR BECAUSE I HAD NOT ROTATED THEM EVERY 5000 MILES. CAR IS A YEAR OLD HAS 20000 MILES AND HAS HAD ROAD NOISE ALL ALONG. DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE TIRES AND DENIED PROBLEM. CAR NOW HAS NEARLY 30,000 MILES AND IS UNDRIVABLE AT THIS POINT. HAVEN'T REPLACED TIRES AS IT IS NOT AFFORDABLE. BUT CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. DEALER SAID SUSPENSION PROBLEMS NOTED IN 2006-07 MODELS HAS BEEN FIXED, BUT PROBLEM SEEMS RAMPANT IN THE 2008 IF YOU LOOK ON THE INTERNET AS WELL AS SAFETY REPORTS YET NOTHING HAS BEEN RECALLED, AND HONDA IS NOT STANDING BY THEIR PRODUCT. DRIVER SEAT: BROKEN WELDS ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT FRONT OF THE SEAT DUE TO USE OF POOR MATERIAL (VERY THIN METAL TUBES BROKE). THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THE SEAT LIFT SYSTEM IS ATTACHED TO THIS TUBE AND THE SEAT PULLED TO THE LEFT ABRUPTLY AND STARTLES YOU. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THAT IT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IT. THEN AFTER THIS OCCURS THE SEAT IS NO LONGER FULLY FUNCTIONAL. The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic Si Coupe. The contact stated while driving approximately 65mph when the dashboard began to emit smoke. The contact was able to pull over and shut off the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact stated that the wiring harness beneath the steering wheel was melted. The vehicle was towed to an insurance lot and is awaiting diagnosis. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V535000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of failure and told the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

IT WAS REPAIRED. LAST WEEK ON 09/09/10 I FILLED MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID UP WITH GAS AS NORMAL AND BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON IT WAS LEAKING ENOUGH GAS TO MAKE THE SMELL IN THE GARAGE UNBEARABLE. THE CAR KEEP ON SHUTTING OFF. CHECKED THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY ON MY DRIVEWAY. I FOUND OUT A BURNT ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TO THE FUEL PUMP. IT MELTED PART OF THE FUEL PUMP CONTAINER. IT'S GOOD THE TANK WAS NOT FULL. IT COULD HAVE BLOWN THE TANK AND THE CAR. MY MECHANIC WOULD ATTEST FOR THIS. I FORGOT TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE BURNT PART OF THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. MY CAR WAS STOPPED IN LINE WHILE WAITING TO GO THROUGH US CUSTOMS. TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, ENGINE STARTED TO REV. PLACED TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL POSITION. ENGINE REVVED THREE TIMES, EACH TIME HIGHER. ON THIRD REVVING, RPM REACHED 4000 RPM. TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED. WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE REVVED AT HIGH RPM AGAIN. TURNED OFF ENGINE, WAITED APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS. RESTARTED ENGINE AGAIN, AND ENGINE STARTED NORMALLY. TOOK CAR TO HONDA DEALER ON 7/23/12. DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY TROUBLE CODES IN THE ENGINE COMPUTER. THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENED TWO YEARS AGO AT APPROX MILEAGE OF 45,000 MILES. ENGINE STARTED REVVING WHILE STOPPED AT A SIGNAL. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. The driver side seatbelt is broken and loses. This will put people at risk because since the seatbelt was loses, people were not secure and cause injuries or death, especially the crashes happened. The problem been confirmed by dealer and independent service center, but failed to fix the problem. The vehicle has been inspected representative. The airbag warning lamps appeared when when he civic is engine on.

2008 HONDA CIVIC LX SEAT BELT BUCKLE HAS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT WILL NOT DEPLOY AIRBAG DUE TO FAULTY MICRO SWITCH. HONDA HAS A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON MODEL YEARS PRIOR TO MINE. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT. I PURCHASED A 2008 HONDA CIVIC ON APRIL 16, 2008. I HAVE HEARD A RATTLING IN THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER SINCE I FIRST GOT THE CAR. WE PURCHASED A $5 RELAY SWITCH AND PROBLEM STOPPED. A YEAR LATER IT STARTED AGAIN, WE GOT ANOTHER RELAY SWITCH AND PROBLEM STOPPED AGAIN, NOW A YEAR LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN, WE GOT A NEW RELAY AND IT DID NOT CORRECT ISSUE. WE OWN A 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE IMA BATTERY FREQUENTLY IN HOT WEATHER GOES DOWN TO NOTHING, AND CAR HAS DIFFICULTY. RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FROM HONDA REGARDING UPDATE TO COMPUTER SOFTWARE. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN, I ASKED SPECIFICALLY IF THIS WOULD DECREASE THE GAS MILEAGE, AS THE IMA BATTERY ASSIST WOULD NOT COME ON AS FREQUENT. I WAS TOLD, "NO, GAS MILEAGE SHOULD BE THE SAME" WELL, THE GAS MILEAGE HAS DECREASED APPROXIMATELY 3-4 MILES PER GALLON. THE IMA BATTERY ASSIST DOES NOT COME ON, AND MAKES ACCELERATION FOR PASSING AND MERGING ONTO FREEWAY DIFFICULT. IF POSSIBLE, WOULD PREFER TO HAVE THE OLD SOFTWARE RE-INSTALLED. I BELIEVE HONDA DID THIS UPDATE ON THE SOFTWARE, AS THEY WERE PROBABLY NOT WANTING TO REPLACE ANYMORE BATTERIES AT $3,000.00 A POP. The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle started to overheat. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled into the gas station and allowed the vehicle to cool down. The contact then refilled coolant in the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the part of the engine block located between with the alternator and the exhaust had fractured. The contact then contacted the dealer who informed him that the engine needed to be replaced per the instructions on Honda Technical Service Bulletin Number: 10-048. However, the dealer advised the contact that the 10 year extended warranty had expired and he had to pay out-of-pocket for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

I WAS PARKING IN A HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT. I "ROLLED" INTO THE SPACE AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE ENGINE "ACCELERATED". I WENT OVER THE CEMENT BLOCK AT THE FRONT OF THE SPACE AND THROUGH A CHAINLINK FENCE AND ONTO THE SIDEWALK. USUALLY, THAT WALKWAY IS FILLED WITH CHILDREN. I INITIALLY THOUGHT THE FLOORMAT GOT CAUGHT UP UNDER THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK PICTURES IMMEDIATELY AND IT DID APPEAR THAT EXACERBATED THE PROBLEM. BELL HONDA IN PHOENIX SAID "THEY COULD NOT REPEAT THE PROBLEM" AND DISMISSED ME. IT HAS SINCE HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER AND HUSBAND. FORTUNATELY THEY BOTH APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. MY CAR WENT FROM NORMAL TEMP TO EXTREMELY OVERHEATING IN ABOUT THREE MINUTES OF IDLING. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM OFF AND ON OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, INCLUDING WHILE DRIVING, AND HAVE HAD TO ADD COOLANT ABOUT FIVE TIMES IN THE LAST FOR YEARS. THE MECHANIC COULD NEVER FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL TODAY. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR. THE ENGINE BLOCK RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED, AND SHE DEFINITELY INCLUDED THE RADIATOR SINCE FATHER'S CHERRY WHERE THE PROBLEM STARTS.

I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN LEAVING MY PLACE OF WORK. THE CAR MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED (POWER STEERING WENT) AND A/C STOPPED WORKING. I IMMEDIATELY PARKED THE CAR AND THE NEXT DAY HAD IT TOWED TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP. UPON INSPECTION, THE WATER PUMP SEIZED UP. THE PULLEY AND LOCK BOLT HOLDING THE SERPENTINE BELT HAD PRACTICALLY FALLEN OFF. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY A HONDA DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN. THE CAR HAS LOW MILEAGE, I AM THE FIRST OWNER, AND THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN SERVICED AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP. I WILL ALSO REFERENCE A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED ON 2006 HONDA CIVICS. THERE IS NO RECALL ON 2008'S EVEN THOUGH IT CONTAINS THE SAME R18 ENGINE (ENGINE BLOCK CRACKING PROBLEMS) AS THE 2006 AND 2007. I PURCHASED A 2008 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE USED. IT WAS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD. I READ A LOT OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ABOUT OTHER 2008 HONDAS. I DIDN'T SEE ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT BRAKE LIGHTS. EVER SINCE I BOUGHT MY HONDA, I NOTICED THE THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT HAS NEVER WORKED. THAT'S THE LIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK WINDOW, WHICH IS A LED BRAKE LIGHT. EVEN THOUGH I BOUGHT THE CAR USED, IT WAS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD WHEN I BOUGHT IT, AND SUPPOSEDLY, LED LIGHTS LAST LONGER THAN THE TRADITIONAL BRAKE LIGHTS. THE ONLY REASON I'M COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS IS THAT THIS LIGHT COSTS ABOUT $150 FOR THE LIGHT ITSELF, AND ANOTHER $150 TO INSTALL IT. THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE CAR I AM DRIVING, BUT I'M NOT SURE HOW ELSE TO SHARE THIS CONCERN. THE NEW HEADLIGHTS IN CARS ARE TOO BRIGHT. THEY HURT A PERSON'S EYES. EVEN PEOPLE WHO AREN'T SENSITIVE TO LIGHT ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING TO LOOK AWAY FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE LIGHTS ARE SIMPLY TOO BRIGHT. I DO NOT OFTEN DRIVE A NIGHT BUT IN RECENT MONTHS, WHEN I DID DRIVE AT NIGHT, I HAD SIGNIFICANT DIFFICULTY SEEING THE HIGHWAY. I THOUGHT "WELL, IT MUST BE MY AGE" SO I DECIDED TO BUY GE NIGHTHAWK BULBS TO REPLACE THE OEM (SYLVANIA DOT G0708 USA)BULBS. I BOUGHT THE NIGHTHAWK BULBS BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE 30% GREATER LIGHT. TODAY (12/29/2010) I DECIDED TO REMOVE THE OEM BULBS AND INSTALL THE GE NIGHTHAWK BULBS. WHEN I REMOVED THE OEM LOW BEAM BULBS I NOTICED THERE WAS A TAN COATING INSIDE THE BULB THAT EXTENDED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BULB TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE TIP OF THE BULB BEYOND MIDWAY AS THEY BULB IS INSTALLED. THERE WAS ALSO SOME OF THE TAN SUBSTANCE AT THE BASE OF THE BULB. FROM THE AMOUNT OF COATING INSIDE THE BULB I AM GUESSING LIGHT VOLUME WOULD HAVE BEEN REDUCED BY 40% OR MORE. WHEN I REMOVED THE HIGH BEAM BULBS THEY WERE PERFECTLY CLEAR; AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THERE IS NO WAY THE LOW BEAM BULBS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THAT CLOUDED GIVEN THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR AND THE LITTLE DRIVING I DO AT NIGHT. I HAVE SAVED THE BULBS AND I WILL SEND THEM TO YOU SHOULD YOU WANT TO TEST THEIR LIGHT OUTPUT. I CAN ALSO SEND A SCANNED IMAGE IF A BULB WHICH APPROXIMATES THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM. HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT IN HONDA CIVIC CARS, AT RISK, BECAUSE OF POOR LIGHT OUTPUT FROM THE LOW BEAM HEAD LAMPS? IF IT WERE ONLY ONE IT IS ONE TOO MANY.

I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE SUN VISOR/AIRBAGS ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC REPLACED 3 TIMES BECAUSE SOMETHING KEEPS POPPING IN THEM. HONDA REPLACED THE FIRST 3 TIMES UNDER WARRANTY. THE FOURTH TIME IT POPPED, HONDA SAID THAT THEY WERE OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM FOR FREE. I FEEL HONDA SHOULD STILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENTS, AS THEY KEEP REPLACING THE SUN VISORS WITH THE SAME OLD CRAPPY ONES THAT BREAK WITHIN 2 YEARS. HOPEFULLY, WE CAN GET HONDA TO TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR KNOWINGLY REPLACING THE PARTS, WITH PARTS THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE.

THIS VEHICLE WAS HAVING A CONTINUOUS ROARING NOISE FROM THE REAR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. TOOK TO PROCTOR HONDA OF TALLAHASSEE AND MENTIONED THE PROBLEM. AT THAT TIME THE TIRE TOYO SPECTRUMS WERE ONLY 1 YEAR AND 9 MONTHS OLD HAVING BEING INSTALLED ON 3/2009 , HAD A 65K TREAD LIFE WARRANTY. THE 2006 AND 2007 MODELS OF HONDA CIVIC HAD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ISSUED REGARDING THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS CAUSING UNEVEN WEAR OF REAR TIRES (CUPPING) SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER : 08-001DATE OF BULLETIN : FEB 08, 2008 ,NHTSA ITEM NUMBER : 10024687. THIS HONDA WAS PURCHASED ON 11/2007 AND WAS OBVIOUSLY MANUFACTURED DURING THE 2007 YEAR. THE PROCTOR HONDA MECHANICS BELIEVE THAT THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE BUT I HAVE NO DOCUMENTATION REVEALING A DATE ANY SUCH WORK WAS DONE. PREVIOUSLY HAD DECLINED THIS SERVICE AND IS NOTED IN SERVICE RECORDS NOT TO PERFORM THIS SERVICE EVER. CAR PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY DIMINISHED SINCE THIS SERVICE HAS BEEN PERFORMED. CAR WILL NOT RELIABLY ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY FROM STANDSTILL (RED LIGHT) OR WHEN MERGING INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AT 40-50 MPH. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, VEHICLE MAY OR MAY NOT MOVE AT ACCEPTABLE SPEED CAUSING THE POTENTIAL TO ENTER TRAFFIC WITH INADEQUATE POWER TO GET UP TO SPEED OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC CREATING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SOFTWARE STATING THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS NEEDED TO BE DONE ON THE CAR TO HELP THE BATTERY LIFE OF THE CAR. SO WE BROUGHT IT IN TO BE SERVICED AND EVER SINCE, WE'VE LOST POWER TO THE CAR, AND LOST MPG THAT USED TO BE APPROX. 38 MPG TO NOW 29 MPG, THE SAME AS OUR '99 CIVIC COUP DX, THAT IS NOT A HYBRID. MY WIFE, WHILE GOING ONTO THE FREEWAY WAS ALMOST HIT, WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE. MY WIFE IS NOW HATES DRIVING THE CAR SHE USED TO LOVE. WE LIVE IN A HILLY AREA. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE UP A HILL WE DRIVE EVERYDAY, IF THE BATTERY CHARGE IS 4 BLOCKS OR LOWER, IT DOESN'T EVEN ASSIST. IT'S ALL THE GAS ENGINE. I HAVE ALWAYS USED THE HIGHEST OCTANE GAS FROM DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS WITHOUT ANY ISSUES BEFORE THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE. SO THAT ISN'T THE PROBLEM. The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, after driving ½ mile, the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the head gasket was blown and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure, but the contact was informed that there were no recalls associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

This one happend to my 18yrs brother in law . He using my car to get to his school i dont know what happend he said brake didnt went through . No injury got a car crash thats all . But the sad thing is my insurance went up and the car history gonna be under my safety driver record . Dmv said im a good driver thats why they email me a safety driver number to renew my license no waiting in line . Maybe next renewal im not gonna get that treatment again

HONDA EXTENDED A WARRANTY FOR 2006-2008 CIVICS TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE ENGINE BLOCKS. I HAVE A 2008 CIVIC THAT HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE SO I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE UNTIL NOW. THEY WILL NOT HONOR THEIR REPLACEMENT WARRANTY, NOR DID THE DEALERSHIP SAY ANYTHING TO ME WHEN I HAD MY CAR SERVICED THERE SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR SINCE 2015. WHY WOULD THEY NOT SAY SOMETHING? NOW I'M LEFT WITH A CAR THAT IS USELESS AND I BET THE DEALERSHIP I HAVE PURCHASED MORE THAN 5 CARS FROM WILL TAKE IT AS A TRADE IN. ON 3/6/19 I WAS DRIVING HOME ON I-95 NORTH WHEN, WITHOUT WARNING, MY CIVIC REDLINED AND OVERHEATED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO ROCKINGHAM HONDA IN ROCKINGHAM, NH AND THE MECHANIC, DAN, DIAGNOSED MY CAR WITH A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. AFTER SOME RESEARCH IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT '06-'09 HONDAS HAD FAULTY ENGINES KNOWINGLY INSTALLED WHICH RESULTED IN HONDA OF AMERICA ISSUING A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR 10 YEARS FOR THIS CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK ERROR. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON 8/14/15 COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THE FAULTY ENGINE, THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, OR THE COST IT WOULD BE TO ME. I CONTACTED HONDA OF AMERICA ON 3/7/19 TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE WARRANTY AND THE COMPLIMENTARY REPLACEMENT/REPAIRS FOR THEIR POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND DOES NOT APPLY TO ME SINCE I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR. TURNS OUT HONDA ONLY SENT OUT ONE NOTICE OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION AND IT WENT TO THE FIRST OWNERS OF THE HONDAS WHO PURCHASED THE CARS OFF A DEALERSHIP LOT. SECONDHAND OWNERS, LIKE ME, HAD NO CHANCE OF EVEN KNOWING THERE WAS A RECALL OR OPPORTUNITY TO GET THIS "TIME BOMB" OF A REPAIR FIXED UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE. AFTER A MONTH OF HAVING NO CAR AND COMMUNICATING WITH HONDA OF AMERICA AND THE MECHANIC, ROCKINGHAM HONDA QUOTED THE REPAIR TO COST $5,600 (WHICH IS TWICE THE AMOUNT OF WHAT KELLEY BLUE BOOK VALUES THE CAR TO BE WORTH). HONDA OF AMERICA SAID THAT SINCE I HAVE NO RECORD OF GETTING THE CAR SERVICED AT ANY OF THEIR LOCATIONS THAT IT'S "NOT THEY'RE PROBLEM" THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE OFFER. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT '06-'09 USED HONDAS, ARE DRIVING A WITH A FAULTY ENGINE, COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THE DANGER AND DAMAGES THEY ARE ABOUT TO INCUR DUE TO HONDA'S INABILITY TO FOLLOW UP WITH THEIR PRODUCT.

CHANGED THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS AT RECOMMENDED DEALER BY HONDA. THEY SUPPOSEDLY CHANGED IT AND SHOULD HAVE DONE THE PROPER CHECKS TO MAKE SURE ALL IS WELL BUT IT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT DONE AS THE CAR ENDED UP LOCKING UP SEATBELTS ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER FROM A MINOR POTHOLE THAT THE CASE MANAGER IS CALLING A COLLISION. I COULDNT BELIEVE HE INSISTED THAT THIS (HITTING A POTHOLE AND AIRBAGS GOING OFF) HAD HAPPENED TO HIM ALREADY TRYING TO MAKE IT SEEM NORMAL. MORE IMPORTANTLY, FROM THE CODES THAT THE SHOP INFORMED ME OF, SEAT SENSOR ON PASSENGER SIDE WAS NO GOOD AND ALTHOUGH NO ONE WAS SITTING ON IT IT LOCKED BELTS AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO INFLATE. THEY ARE WITH MY CAR 60 DAYS AND COUNTING.... NEVER HONDA AGAIN.

THE CAR HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SRS WIRING HARNESS THAT CONTROLS AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND DRIVER AND PASSENGER SAFETY. THIS CAUSES THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO COME ON AND PREVENTS PROPER DEPLOYMENT. THE PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY COMMON IN HONDAS, SPECIFICALLY 8TH GENERATION CARS. THE CAUSE IS A POORLY MADE WIRE THAT GETS CAUGHT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT TRACK, CAUSING A SHORT IN THE WIRE. IT CAN ONLY BE REPAIRED PROPERLY AND SAFELY BY REMOVING THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS AND REPLACING IT. THIS REQUIRES THAT THE CARPETING AND THE DASHBOARD BE REMOVED AND TAKES 6-8 HOURS WORTH OF WORK, AND IS REPLACED WITH A $200-400 PART DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU TAKE IT. IT CANNOT BE FIXED EASILY OR AFFORDABLY BY THE CONSUMER, AND PREVENTS THE CAR FROM BEING SAFE TO DRIVE OR PASSING INSPECTIONS IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE OCCURRED SOONER, AS THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY PURCHASED USED A FEW MONTHS AGO. IT HAPPENS IN MOST HONDAS AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S 150,000 MILE WARRANTY ON OTHER PARTS DESPITE HAVING RELEASED A TSB TO ALL DEALERSHIPS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS SO COMMON. IT PRESENTS A DANGER TO DRIVERS AND DESERVES TO HAVE A RECALL ISSUED.

I AM HAVING AN ONGOING PROBLEM WHERE MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGINS TO REV UP AND ACCELERATE FORWARD. THIS ISSUE FIRST HAPPENED IN FEBRUARY 2017. I WAS IN A FAST-FOOD DRIVE THRU WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV UP TO 3000 RPMS. I SHIFTED INTO PARK WHICH CAUSED IT TO REV AT 5000. AT THAT POINT, I SHUT OFF THE CAR. I STARTED IT AGAIN AND THE CAR WAS FINE. I CONTACTED HONDA OF NORTH AMERICA. THEY SENT AN ATTORNEY OUT TO TALK TO ME AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. HONDA KEPT MY CAR MOST OF THE DAY AND TOLD ME THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THEY EVEN INSINUATED THAT MAYBE I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL... I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 15 YEARS. I THINK I WOULD KNOW IF MY FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL... THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS SAFE AND THAT IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN I SHOULD CONTACT THEM... THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN ON APRIL 24TH AT LAX AIRPORT. I WAS AT THE TOLL BOTH PAYING FOR MY PARKING AFTER A TRIP. THE CAR BEGAN TO REV UP JUST LIKE BEFORE. I THROUGH THE CAR IN PARK AND IT ALMOST RED-LINED. I SHUT THE CAR OFF. THE WOMAN AT THE TOLL BOTH WITNESSES THE INCIDENT. I TOLD HER TO GET HER SUPERVISOR AND ANYONE ELSE THAT COULD COME OVER. HONDA DID NOT TAKE ME SERIOUSLY THE FIRST TIME CLEARLY! HER SUPERVISOR CAME OVER. I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO HIM AND ASKED HIM TO FILM THE CAR AS I STARTED IT UP AGAIN. HE BEGAN TO FILM AND I TURNED THE IGNITION. THE CAR WAS REVVING AT 4000 AND RISING FROM THE MOMENT I STARTED IT. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT IT OFF. IT DID THIS TWO MORE TIMES. THE FINAL TIME I STARTED IT, THE CAR REVVED NORMAL. I PAID MY FEE AND THE WOMAN RAISED THE GATE. AS I PULLED OUT, THE CAR JERKED FORWARD AND PULLED ME INTO TRAFFIC. I WAS NEARLY T-BONED BY A TAXI. I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT. I CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY REFUSED TO REINSPECT THE CAR UNLESS I WOULD PAY OUT OF POCKET. THE CAR HAS NOT DONE IT SINCE. THANK YOU.

THE BRACKET THE HOLDS THE ALTERNATOR AND IS CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE BLOCK SNAPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. I LOST POWER STEERING AND THE BELT CAME OFF. THE ALTERNATOR WAS JUST DANGLING. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW.

MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC LX STARTED EXPERIENCING DOOR LOCK PROBLEMS IN MARCH OF 2011 (I CAN PROVIDE THE EXACT DATE, BUT WILL NEED TO GO THROUGH PAPERWORK TO FIND IT.). SINCE THAT POINT IN TIME, I HAVE HAD OVER A DOZEN LOCKS REPLACED. I HAVE THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK REPLACED 3 TIMES, THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR REPLACED 4 TIMES, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR REPLACED 3 TIMES, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR REPLACED 4 TIMES. THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED EVEN AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY RAN OUT. THERE IS SOME KIND OF ELECTRICAL SHORT CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD CALLED AMERICAN HONDA TO GET THERE HELP AND THEY OFFERED TO FIX THE PROBLEM AS LONG AS I PAID $100 TOWARDS THE COST OF REPAIR. THAT IS RIDICULOUS CONSIDERING THE HISTORY OF ISSUES. THE CIVIC WAS TAKEN TO OTHER SERVICE PLACES AND THEY AGREED THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR LOCKS AND ELECTRICAL. IN ADDITION, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CV AXLES TWICE ON THIS CIVIC. THE FIRST WAS DONE UNDER WARRANT AT APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES. I HAVE SINCE HAD TO CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA A SECOND TIME, AND BECAUSE AGAIN THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY $400.00 TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. THIS WAS NOT A FAIR COMPROMISE SINCE THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES. THE THIRD PROBLEM CONCERNS THE WHEELS BEARINGS. THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT LEFT WHEEL WAS REPLACED SHORTLY AFTER THE AXLES WERE REPLACED. I NOW AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING GOING BAD. I SPOKE WITH A MASTER MECHANIC, AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE TECH AT SOUTHPOINT HONDA IN DURHAM HAVING OVER TORQUED THE BOLT TO SECURE THE WHEEL BEARING. I BELIEVE THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED THE FIRST TIME. AT THIS PONT IN TIME, I CAN NO LONGER USE THE KEY FOB TO ENTER THE CAR, SINCE THE DOOR LOCKS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, AND THE CAR IS CONSIDERED TO BE A LEMON BY SEVERAL MASTER MECHANICS. *TR

I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN. SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW THE AIR CONDITIONER NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. THE SYMPTOM THAT I NOTICED WAS A LACK OF WATER DRIPPING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR (FROM THE EVAPORATOR COIL). I ASKED HONDA ABOUT IT WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR A ROUTINE VISIT AND THEY SAID IT WAS FINE AND THE AIR TEMPERATURE FROM THE VENT WAS IN SPEC. THE CAR WAS COOLING SO I NEVER WORRIED ABOUT IT MUCH. AT 75K MILES THE A/C COMPRESSOR JUST STOPPED WORKING. THE A/C SYSTEM HAD A FULL CHARGE BUT THE COMPRESSOR WOULDN'T COMPRESS THE GAS TO ALLOW THE REFRIGERANT TO FLASH COOL. I HAD A TAKE IT TO LOCAL CAR REPAIR PLACE TO HAVE THE A/C COMPRESSOR, EXPANSION VALVE, AND DRIER REPLACED. NOW AFTER SPENDING $$$$, THE A/C WORKS GREAT AND WATER DRIPS FROM CAR WHEN THE A/C IS ON. THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE, SHE SWITCHED TO THE LOWEST RANGE, STILL THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. WELL, I SPENT THE DAY THERE, THEY DID COMPUTER ANALYSIS, TECHNICIAN INTERFACED WITH HONDA TECH LINE, EVEN SENT A "SNAPSHOT" OF THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER DATA WHEN IT ACTUALLY RECREATED THE SAME CONDITION FOR THE MECHANIC ON A STEEP HILL. THE PROBLEM, WHICH INVOLVES A METAL BAR THAT EXPANDS IN HOT WEATHER AND FORCES APART THE TWO SIDES OF THE PLASTIC VISOR, IS PRONE TO HAPPEN IN HOT WEATHER. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME. A CALIFORNIA SUPERIOR COURT RULING REQUIRES HONDA TO REPLACE THESE AS NEEDED UP TO 100,000 MILES. HOWEVER, THE SAFETY ISSUE REMAINS UNADDRESSED. THE REPLACEMENT IS THE SAME AS THE FAILED VISOR, AND IT TOO WILL FAIL IN ABOUT 10,000 MILES (OR LESS, IN SEVERE CLIMATES). TWO SCREWS HOLD THE VISOR TO THE ROOF OF THE CAR. FIRST THING THIS MORNING I TRIED TO SET MY CRUISE CONTROL AT 65 MPH, BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. THE SPEED OF THE CAR KEPT DECREASING, DESPITE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO SET THE CRUISE. I TURNED OFF THE CRUISE AND TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO DRIVE, AND THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. IN ADDITION, AS I TRIED TO INCREASE MY SPEED, THE CAR MADE A LOUD HUMMING SOUND AND THE RPMS ON THE DASH BEGAN TO INCREASE. THEN AN INDICATOR LIGHT TURNED ON; AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES, MORE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON, MY BRAKE STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY, AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. MY GAS PEDAL ALSO STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. AT THIS POINT, AS I WAS GOING UPHILL I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK BECAUSE THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP THE CAR. SMOKE BEGAN COMING FROM THE HOOD. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE MIDAS IN SALT LAKE CITY AT 875 EAST 2100 SOUTH. THE SERVICE PEOPLE TOLD ME THE CARS ENGINE HAD HEATED SO THAT IT MELTED THE EQUIPMENT UNDER THE HOOD. LATER, AFTER A DISCUSSION WITH THE HONDA CORPORATE OFFICE, I FOUND OUT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED IN AUGUST 2010 FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE BLOCKS OF 2006, 2008, AND SOME 2009 CIVICS. THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVE SAID A LETTER HAD BEEN SENT TO CIVIC OWNERS. HOWEVER, MY EXPERIENCE TODAY SHOWED ME THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS PROBLEM. I COULD HAVE A LIFE-THREATENING ACCIDENT TODAY, AND WHEN THE ISSUE IS SO GRAVE HONDA SHOULD CALL CAR OWNERS TO ALERT THEM TO THE RECALL. A LETTER SENT OUT ONE TIME IS NOT ENOUGH. THE MIDAS SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES TOLD ME THEY HAD ABSOLUTELY NO INFORMATION ABOUT THIS RECALL IN THEIR DATABASE, WHICH PROVES HOW POORLY THIS ENTIRE MATTER HAS BEEN HANDLED. I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC EX. AROUND 70,000 MILES MY ENGINE OVERHEATED ON THE HIGHWAY. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THERE WAS RADIATOR COOLANT LEAK FROM UNDERNEATH MY CAR. THE HONDA DEALERS STATED THERE WAS A CRACK ON THE ENGINE BLOCK. I INVESTIGATED THIS MATTER ON THE INTERNET AND THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF CRACKED ENGINE BLOCKS ON THE 2008 HONDA CIVIC. DUE TO NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS HONDA EXTENDED THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY TO 8 YRS FOR UNLIMITED MILES. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL BUT THERE SHOULD BE IN MY OPINION. ALSO I HAVE REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC TWICE IN ABOUT 70,000 MILES DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR (INNER FLAT AREAS ON THE TIRES) EVEN WITH TIRE ROTATIONS AND ALIGNMENTS. 2008 HONDA CIVIC. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE AND BRAKES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY FOR 20 -30 MINUTES AT A TIME WHILE DRIVING. THE AC KNOB WAS TURNED ON, BUT THE BLOWER WAS NOT WORKING. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, SHE WAS INFORMED DYE HAD BEEN PLACED IN THE AC SYSTEM AND TO RETURN IN 3 WEEKS TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY LEAKS. THE CONSUMER RETURNED 3 WEEKS LATER AND NO LEAKS WERE FOUND. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONSUMER THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE UNLESS AC/HEATER BLOWER WAS NOT WORKING AT THE TIME. IN DECEMBER 2009, WHILE IT WAS RAINING, THE WINDSHIELD BECAME FOGGED, BECAUSE THE BLOWER WAS NOT WORKING. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE DEALER IN TIME FOR THEM TO WITNESS, THAT THE AC/ HEATER BLOWER WAS NOT WORKING, BUT AS THE TECHNICIAN WENT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE INTO THE SERVICE BAY, IT BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. HAVE A 08 CIVIC HYBRID WITH 89K MILES. GOT THE RECENT BATTERY SOFTWARE UPGRADE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. HAVE HAD A SUDDEN DROP IN BATTERY CHARGE DOWN TO ONE OR TWO BARS, BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE UPGRADE. RECOVERY USUALLY FAIRLY QUICK, DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, 72 MPH, ALL OF A SUDDEN DASH WENT DARK AND ENGINE STOPPED. NO WARNINGS OR LIGHTS BEFOREHAND. COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ABLE TO RESTART IMMEDIATELY. HAPPENED TWICE MORE OVER THE NEXT 30 MINUTES. THESE TIMES PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED AS I COASTED. TANK ABOUT 1/3 FULL WITH SHELL GAS. IN AUGUST 2010 I TOOK MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A PURPORTED SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE BATTERY SYSTEM WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME UNTIL AFTERWARDS. IMMEDIATELY UPON LEAVING THE DEALER, I NOTICED A PROFOUND REDUCTION IN POWER AND ACCELERATION. ON THE FREEWAY PORTION OF THE DRIVE HOME, I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED TWICE AS I DROVE IN THE SLOW LANE UP A MINOR GRADE WHERE THE VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 40 MILES PER HOUR (WITH THE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED IN THE PASSING GEAR)-- PRIOR TO THIS DATE I HAD DRIVEN MY VEHICLE FOR ITS PRIOR 20 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP UP THAT SAME GRADE AT 70MPH. ADDITIONALLY, PRIOR TO THIS DATE I HAD NEVER EVEN UTILIZED THE "S" GEAR ON MY TRANSMISSION. EVER SINCE HONDA'S SOFTWARE UPDATE MY CAR HAS BECOME A SEVERELY UNDERPOWERED ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I AM REDUCED TO DRIVING IN THE SLOW LANE ON THE FREEWAY WITH VEHICLES FLASHING ME AS THEY APPROACH A 40-45 MPH VEHICLE AT 60-70 MPH FROM BEHIND. I HAVE CALLED THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AT SEVERAL LOCAL DEALERS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM, AND GET A UNIVERSAL RESPONSE- "WAIT FOR YOUR SYSTEM TO ADJUST TO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE" OR "YOU NEED TO ADJUST YOUR DRIVING". WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS MEAN? I DROVE THE VEHICLE FINE FOR 20 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND NOW IT DRIVES LIKE A 20 YEAR OLD 4 CYLINDER ENGINE WITH 2 BAD PISTONS. THE DECREASED POWER AND ACCELERATION ARE A DANGEROUS ACCIDENT IN THE MAKING. I AM FEARFUL OF BEING REAR ENDED. THIS IS AN EVERY DAY PROBLEM THAT WAS CAUSED BY THIS "SOFTWARE UPDATE" AND I SUSPECT THAT IT IS HAPPENING TO EVERY 2006-2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID THAT GOES TO THE DEALER FOR THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE. CURRENTLY I HAVE 32,277 MILES AND DON'T DRIVE IT, IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I TAKE A BUS :) 1# TRANS LOCKED AT 60MPH ON HWY AND CAUSED ALMOST A FATAL CRASH! AT 23,000 MILES. CAR WAS ABLE TO DRIVE UP TO 15MPG HAVING APPX. 6000RPMS. CAR LEFT AT DEALERSHIP AND ONLY PCM SOFTWARE WAS UPD. NO LOCKUPS ARE OCCURRING, BUT TRANS IS WEAVING, HARSH START/STOP OFTEN!/UNEXPECTED SHUTDOWN. DEALERSHIP FOUND SERVICE BULLETIN #08-014 (HARSH ENGAGEMENT), UPD. THE ON BOARD COMPUTER AND SYMPTOMS ARE MUCH WORSE THAN PREVIOUSLY. LOWER MPG ( 25-28 ), MUCH WORSE PERFORMANCE, UNEXPECTED BATTERY DISCHARGE, WEAVING, LOW ACCEL. DEALER DUPLICATED PROBLEMS, BUT SAID "IT'S OK" AND PROBLEMS IS UNTOUCHED. SINCE THEY UPDATED THE SYSTEM, THE HYBRID OPTION IS NOT KICKING IN AS BEFORE. PREV. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SLOWLY ONLY ON HYBRID, NOW I CAN'T. NO ACTIONS ARE TAKEN TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. ONCE THEY CHANGED THE IMA BATT PACK, BUT THIS DID NOT HELP AND I SEE NOT A DIFFERENCE. COMPLAINED AGAIN, AND ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE. BRAKES ARE MALFUNCTIONING. BRAKE FLUID IS MISSING, DEALER SAID "[XXX], IT'S A MYSTERY". DEPENDING ON OUTSIDE TEMP, BATTERY CHARGE LEVEL AND CAR TEMP BREAKS WORK DIFF! OCCASIONALLY WHILE SLOWING DOWN, THE BATTERY LEVEL REACHES FULL AND YOU MUST PRESS THE PEDAL AS HARD AS YOU CAN TO STOP. THIS HAS CAUSED SMALL CRASHES AND ONCE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, OR I PRESSED TOO LIGHTLY ( COLD OUTSIDE WITH FULL BATTERY ) AND UNFORTUNATELY I COULDN'T STOP ON TIME AND RAN OVER A PEDESTRIAN. I OWN A 2008 HONDA CIVIC (PURCHASED NEW) WITH UNDER 25, 000 MILES. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO HAVE TO ROTORS RESURFACED WHEN I TOOK DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE...AS I WAS DRIVING HOME, I COULD FEEL THE BRAKES PULSATING WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD TO RESURFACE THE ROTORS THEN. AFTER THAT, THE FIRST PROBLEM I HAD WAS WITH THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE LEFT REAR BRAKES (PADS, CALIPER, ROTOR). AT APPROXIMATELY 18K BOTH REAR WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE LEFT REAR CALIPER WAS FROZEN, THE PADS WERE WORN DUE TO THAT AND THE ROTOR NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED. THE REPAIRS WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND NO EXPLANATION COULD BE GIVEN AS TO A REASON FOR THE PREMATURE WEAR. AT APPROXIMATELY 20K, I HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT ROTORS RESURFACED (BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT) DUE TO PREMATURE/UNEVEN WEAR). RECENTLY, I NOTICED THE PARKING BRAKE STICKING/FREEZING AND BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE. THE BRAKE PADS ON THE RIGHT REAR, WERE UNEVENLY/PREMATURELY WORN AND THE CALIPER WAS FROZEN. BOTH REAR ROTORS HAD TO BE RESURFACED AGAIN! THESE REPAIRS WERE ALSO COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT AGAIN, NO EXPLANATION COULD BE GIVEN AS TO WHAT KEEPS CAUSING THIS PREMATURE WEAR OF THE BRAKES. MY HUSBAND WAS IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE HE WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVERS SIDE, AND THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. MY HUSBAND SUFFERED NUMEROUS INTERNAL BRUISING , A FRACTURE IN HIS BACK AND A DICS THAT BULGES IN HIS BACK, HE WAS THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE AND ALL THESE INJURIES ARE MAINLY ON HIS LEFT SIDE OF HIS BODY WHERE THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. HE WAS TOLD FROM DOCTORS THAT HE IS LUCKY TO BE ALIVE, BUT HIS INJURIES COULD TAKE IN EXCESS OF A YEAR TO HEAL. HE WAS HIT IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOTALED DUE TO THE DAMAGE. I HAD AN INCIDENT WITH MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC. I WAS PULLING INTO THE CHURCH PARKING LOT AND TURNED TO PARK IN THE GRASS NEXT TO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN I LOST THE STEERING AND THEN SUDDENLY THE CAR JUMPED FORWARD OUT OF CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A TREE ABOUT 10 FT IN FRONT OF ME. I THOUGHT THE GAS PEDAL HAD STUCK BUT THE ADJUSTOR WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM THAT THIS WAS THE CASE. I NEVER PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL-I WAS BRAKING AND GOING LESS THAN 10 MI/HR AT THE TIME. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED THE CAR TO LEAP FORWARD AND ACCELERATE. I HAVE HAD NO OTHER INCIDENTS WITH THIS VEHICLE. 1. AFTER NORMAL 30K MILEAGE SERVICE AND TIRE ROTATION/BALANCING 5/23/2009, WITH HIGHWAY HANDLING CAR SHOOK EXTREMELY AND WOBBLED AT SPEEDS 60 AND ABOVE, PULLS TO THE RIGHT GOING DOWNHILL. 2. PROBLEM REMAINS WITH 2008 HYBRID PAST 35K, REPRODUCIBLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (60MPH-70 MPH, 2000 RPM TO 2500 RPM) GOING ON STRAIGHT STRETCH AND DOWNHILL. FRONT OF CAR PULLING SIDEWAYS IS REPRODUCIBLE IN RAIN OR WHEN BREAKING GOING DOWN LOW/MEDIUM GRADE HILL. 8/18, THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR, IS A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN ON HIGHWAY,ESPECIALLY GOING DOWNHILL OR ON STRAIGHT STRETCH. 3. REPORTED TO DEALER, WENT IN FOR CHECK, DEALER CONTACTED WARRANTY AND REPLACED TRANSMISSION FLUID. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS, DEALER RECOMMENDS CHANGE FRONT TIRES NOW AS TIRES RIPPLED BETWEEN MAY 23RD AND JUNE 3RD, 2009. PAID FOR 2 NEW TIRES TO REPLACE OLD PER DEALERS RECOMMENDATION FRIDAY 6/11. DEALER GOES THROUGH EXTENDED WARRANTY TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION 6/11. THE PROBLEM DISSIPATED 30%,BUT SHAKING OCCURS. RETURN VEHICLE TO DEALER TO VERIFY IF SOFTWARE UPDATES WERE MADE 6/24 AFTER TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. DEALER MADE SOFTWARE UPDATE 7/6 RECEIVED CAR BACK AND PROBLEM SHOWED UP WITHIN A DAY. REPORTED ISSUE. DEALER RECEIVED HONDA RECOMMENDATION TO DISCONNECT EGR VALVE 7/31. PROBLEM REDUCED BY ~20% BUT STILL REMAINS AT 60MPH ETC. 8/8 FOLLOW-UP WITH CONCERN OF DRIVING IN RAIN DEALER RECOMMENDS CONTACTING HONDA CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DEALER CONTACTS FACTORY REP, WHOSE RECOMMENDATION IS THERE IS NOTHING FURTHER THAT CAN BE DONE. THERE WAS NO INSPECTION MADE FOR ANY JOINT/BOLT/BELT SLIPPAGE ETC. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CONTACTED DEALER AND FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE AND STATED NOTHING ELSE CAN BE DONE 8/18 AS F.REP HAS CLOSED THE CASE, CANNOT OVERRIDE F.REP, AND DOES NOT HAVE STATISTICS TO CONFIRM EITHER WAY WHETHER THE PROBLEM EXISTS IN OTHER 2008 HYBRIDS WITH SIMILAR MILEAGE. THERE HAS BEEN NO WRECK OR FIRE---THIS IS A COMPLAINT FOR YOUR TSB COMPILATIONS....WE HAVE AN 08 CIVIC LX: THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ROUGHLY, AND WITH DELAYS. SLOWING DOWN AND THEN RE ACCELERATING LIGHTLY CAUSES A DELAY----AS IF THE TRANSMISSION/CONTROL MODULE CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHICH GEAR TO GET INTO--- AND THEN A ROUGH ENGAGEMENT. FROM D TO REVERSE, THERE IS A HARDER ENGAGEMENT THAN SHOULD BE. IT'S AS IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CONTROL MODULE OR THE TORQUE CONVERTER. MY DEALER SAYS ALL THESE THINGS ARE NORMAL IN A CIVIC AUTO TRANSMISSION. WE HAVE AN 07 ACCORD EXL AND IT HAS NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS, NOR DID ANY OTHER VEHICLES I'VE HAD IN THE PAST WITH A.T. IT SEEMS THERE SHOULD BE SOME CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING OR SOFTWARE PATCH FOR THIS TRANSMISSION. ALSO, AS A SAFETY PROBLEM, IT IS HARDER TO SEE OUT OF THIS WINDSHIELD DURING RAIN, ESP. FRONT DRIVER WINDOW CAME OUT OF PLASTIC WINDOW CHANNEL (SEAL) DURING CLOSING AND WOULD NOT SEAL PROPERLY. TEMPORARY FIX: COULD MANUALLY PUSH/PULL WINDOW INTO CHANNEL DURING CLOSING, BUT WATCH YOUR FINGERS! OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 6000KM. I BELIEVE ROOT CAUSE WAS FAULTY SWITCH WHICH DIDN'T PROVIDE SIGNAL TO WINDOW MOTOR TO STOP IF WINDOW CLOSED. AFTER WINDOW CLOSED, IF BUTTON ACTIVATED, COULD HEAR MOTOR STILL PUSHING WINDOW GLASS UP. MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC RAN OVER A PIECE OF TIRE FROM A TRUCK. IT PASSED UNDER THE CAR AND BENT THE REAR MOST BRACKET HOLDING THE HANDBRAKE CABLE. IT APPLIED THE REAR BRAKES CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE REAR BRAKES OVERHEATED AND THE REAR BRAKES REQUIRED A MAJOR SERVICE TO RESTORE IT TO ROADWORTHINESS. WE CONTACTED HONDA, THEY OPENED A CASE NUMBER BUT REFUSED TO ACCEPT THERE WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND LEFT THE RESOLUTION TO ME. I BELIEVE THIS COULD LEAD TO A NASTY ACCIDENT IF THE REAR WHEEL BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I THINK THE DESIGN CHANGE REQUIRED WOULD BE SIMPLE. IF THE REAR BRACKET WAS MOVED UP 1 TO 2" I THINK THE PROBLEM WOULD BE SOLVED. I SUGGESTED THIS THE HONDA BUT MY SUGGESTION WAS IGNORED CITING THEY DIDN'T SEE THIS PROBLEM SHOW UP ELSEWHERE. *TR
