The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH and attempting to proceed at a green light, the front passenger side of the vehicle crashed into the front driver-side of another vehicle. The air bags were not deployed. The contact noticed that there were bruises on both of her knees and endured neck and back pain from the impact. Medical attention was sought. No one else was injured that was not in the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to a dealer; the vehicle received a diagnosis stating that the vehicle was totaled. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,311.

Both the side airbag and front airbag lights on the dashboard are on, and the mechanic I go to has no clue why the warning lights are on. I am concerned about my safety in the event of a crash, as I don’t know if they will deploy, or fail.

My Air Bag light indicator light has come on and does not go off. My car is a 2003 Honda Civic LX module. I am the third owner of this vehicle. I bought it at Kelly Nissan on 248 E in Easton, Pa with 117,880 miles. It has 123,000 miles on it now. There were no other indicator lights on prior to this safety issue, air bag light indicator light coming on and it is still on at the present time, I need it fixed, because it has to be inspected by July 31, 2022, and I do not think it will pass Pa inspection. My Honda is available upon request. Please contact me by my email or by my mailing address I provided, my phone at the present time is out of service till I purchase a new one, please! A.S.P.

THE COMBINATION LIGHT SWITCH CONNECTOR IN MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH HEAT IN THE LOW BEAM WIRING. IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS LISTED UNDER OTHER CIVICS FROM THE MODEL YEAR RANGE, BUT MINE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT MAY CAUSE THE LOW BEAMS TO GO OUT AND CAUSE VISIBILITY ISSUES WHEN THE WIRE BECOMES TOO HOT.

THE PAINT HAS BEEN FADING AND PEELING SINCE ABOUT JANUARY OF 2014. CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF AND WASHED CLEANED REGULARLY (BUT NOT EXCESSIVELY) ITS WHOLE LIFE AND THE PAINT SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA'S MADE AROUND THIS TIME AND HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND PAY TO HAVE IT PAINTED. I NOTICED A FEW WEEKS AGO THAT THE HOOD HAD STARTED TO BOUNCE SOMEWHAT WHILE CAR WAS IN OPERATION, UPON INVESTIGATING I FOUND THE SUPPORT THAT THE HOOD LATCH ASSEMBLY IS ATTACHED ( BULKHEAD / CROSS MEMBER) HAD A HAIRLINE CRACK APPEARING. WITHIN A MATTER OF A FEW WEEKS THE ENTIRE LATCH ASSEMBLY HAD BROKEN LOOSE. ONCE THIS HAPPENS EVEN THE SECONDARY LATCH IS USELESS, AT THIS POINT THE ONLY THING KEEPING THE HOOD FROM FLYING OPEN DURING THE COURSE OF DRIVING WHICH INVOLVES AIR TURBULENCE IS A VERY THIN GAUGE STEEL CABLE CONNECTED TO THE INSIDE HOOD RELEASE LATCH WHICH ISN'T MEANT TO RESTRAIN HOOD FROM FLYING OPEN. I'VE ALSO FOUND ONE DOCUMENTED CASE OF A HOOD FLYING OPEN WHILE CAR IS TRAVELING DOWN INTERSTATE IN OHIO, THIS WAS A 2004 HONDA CIVIC AND THE TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT NUMBER IS 10-119-89. I'VE CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATION AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS REGARDING THIS SAFETY ISSUE ON JANUARY 19, 2016 . SO FAR I'VE ONLY RECEIVED A CASE FILE NUMBER (04405315) AND A LOT OF RUN AROUND. I'VE BEEN TOLD IN DIFFERENT CONVERSATION MY CAR IS 13 YEARS OLD AND OUT OF WARRANTY. I KNOW THAT. THE CAR WAS ALSO OUT OF WARRANTY WHEN BOTH AIRBAGS PRODUCED BY TAKATA CORPORATION HAD TO BE REPLACED. I FEEL THIS HOOD LATCH PROBLEM IS JUST AS DANGEROUS IF NOT MORE SO, IF ONES HOOD COMES UNLATCHED GOING DOWN A HIGHWAY OR WORSE A INTERSTATE THIS COULD VERY EASILY RESULT IN A MAJOR PILE UP PUTTING NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS AT RISK FOR LOSS OF LIFE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. I INSTALLED 4 GOODYEAR INTEGRITY TIRES ON MY 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. ON 5/17/2011 I DROVE IT ON RAIN GROOVED CONCRETE (US 287) AND WHEN IT HIT THE GROOVED PAVEMENT, IT WENT INTO A VIOLENT SHIMMY. THERE WAS A CROSS WIND BUT THE TIRES PERFORMED NORMALLY ON SMOOTH CONCRETE, ASPHALT, AND IN THE SAME CROSS WIND ON E-W AND N-S HIGHWAYS. WHEN I CAME TO THE RAIN GROOVES I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 60-65 MPH AND I HAD TO SLOW TO LESS THAN 45 MPH TO HAVE ANY SECURE CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT FELT LIKE THE STEERING COLUMN HAD COME LOOSE OR THE WHEELS WERE GOING WILDLY. THE CAR LURCHED 1-2 INCHES LATERALLY WHILE ON THE RAIN GROOVED CONCRETE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW, AND CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. WHILE SLOWING DOWN, AND IF THE CAR GOES OVER A BUMP OR ROUGH PATCH IN THE ROAD, THE ELECTRICAL BRAKING BY THE HYBRID SYSTEM TURNS OFF. THIS CAUSES THERE TO BE NO BRAKING AT ALL ON THE CAR FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME. THE REGULAR BRAKING SYSTEM WILL ENGAGE BUT IT REQUIRES MORE FORCE AND TIME THAN NORMAL TO SLOW AND STOP THE CAR. I BOUGHT MY HONDA CIVIC EX IN 2003 FROM LUTE RILEY HONDA OF RICHARDSON. NOT LONG AFTER BUYING IT, MAYBE 6 MONTHS, A SMALL CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS NOTICED INCIDENTALLY, ALTHOUGH NO DEBRIS HITTING THE WINDSHIELD WAS NOTED. THE CRACK EXTENDS ALL THE WAY FROM THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD, AND SINCE I HAVEN'T ATTENDED TO THE CRACK DUE TO JOB SCHEDULE, IT NOW EXTENDS UP MORE THAN HALF THE LENGTH OF THE GLASS. I SHOWED HER THAT I HAD ANOTHER WARNING LIGHT, ALERTING ME TO ANY SEATBELT ISSUE, BUT, SHE TOLD ME THAT WARNING LIGHT ALERTS DRIVERS TO 'PUT ON THEIR SEATBELT', AND THAT THE WARNING LIGHT THAT I WAS SEEING ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH IS FOR THE ENTIRE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM, (I.E. The contact owned a 2003 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, a semi-truck unexpectedly crossed into his lane which caused him to crash the truck's land gear. The air bags did not deploy upon impact and the seat belt pretensioners failed to restrain the contact. The contact was taken to the hospital via ambulance and was treated for multiple torn ligaments, a chest injury, and back pain. The other driver did not suffer any injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent tow yard and was later towed back to the contact's residence where it remained in his possession. The dealer and the manufacturer were both notified of the failure. A case was filed. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The failure mileage was unknown.

PLEASE COVER THIS UNDER WARRANTY HONDA...IT'S NOT EVEN GUARANTEED THIS WILL CLEAR THE CODE. MY SEATBELT/SRS LIGHT WENT CAME ON AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE SRS SENSOR BUT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY. TO ME IT SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HONDA DOES NOT COVER THE SRS SENSOR IN THE BUCKLE. WITH THIS SENSOR GOING BAD IT COULD CAUSE AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG. MY HONDA HAS HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS ON THE AIRBAG BUT NOTHING ON THE SENSOR. I BELIEVER HONDA SHOULD COVER THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

I HAVE HAD HORRIBLE HEALTH ISSUES THE PASSED YEARS. IT CAME DOWN TO LONG TERM CHEMICAL EXPOSURE. MY HONDA CIVIC 2003 WAS LEAKING GAS FUMES FROM THE FUEL PUMP UNDER THE BACKSEAT. I TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE FUEL PUMP LEAK. IT WAS CRACKED ON TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP, ITS EXACTLY THE SAME RECALL ISSUE OF THE 2011 FUEL PUMP FROM THE HONDA CIVIC 2011. I HAVE HIGH LEVELS OF GAS ON A BLOOD TEST OF ETHYLBENZENE AND M,P, XYLENE, - GASOLINE CHEMICALS. I THINK ALL HONDA CIVIC OWNERS NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE CRACKING OF THE FUEL PUMPS, THAT CAN START A FIRE OR LIKE MYSELF CAUSE HEALTH ISSUES FROM BREATHING IT IN FOR A LONG TIME. OUR 2003 HONDA CIVIC'S GAS TANK CABLE THAT LOCKS THE FILLER SNAPPED MAKING IT UNABLE TO UNLOCK OR RE-FUEL THE VEHICLE. HAPPENED AS WE WERE ON HIGHWAY AND NEEDED GAS AND WENT TO GAS STATION, UNABLE TO PUT ANY GASOLINE IN THE VEHICLE AND WE WERE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL. THE FUEL PUMP MODULE PLASTIC TOP DEVELOPED SMALL STRESS CRACKS ON IT AND SPRAYED FUEL ONTO THE EXHAUST PIPE CAUSING A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. I DROVE THIS DEFECT FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS AND DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE FUEL ODOR WAS COMING FROM UNTIL THE LEAK GOT WORSE AND LEAKED ONTO THE GROUND FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALER REFUSED TO SUBMIT MY REPAIR CLAIM FOR WARRANTY OR SAFETY REPAIR CONSIDERATION NOR FORWARD THIS SAFETY DEFECT INVESTIGATION REQUEST TO THE FACTORY. I REPLACED THE ENTIRE FUEL PUNP MODULE AT MY EXPENSE TO REMEDY THE LARGE FUEL LEAK.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CHECK THE VIN ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING, WHERE IT PROTRUDES FROM THE FUEL TANK, IS MADE OF PLASTIC AND HAS DEVELOPED CRACKS FROM WHICH GASOLINE IS OOZING. THE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE LEAKING IS SUBSTANTIAL, AND IT COLLECTS IN THE DEPRESSION AROUND THE HOUSING. THIS IS AN APPARENT FIRE HAZARD, AS WELL AS A SOURCE OF GASOLINE EVAPORATION AIR POLLUTION. WHILE LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT PART ONLINE, IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN HONDA CIVIC'S. BECAUSE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT MAY NOT BE READILY OBSERVABLE BY THE OWNER, IT IS LIKELY TO GO UNDETECTED AND THEREFORE UNREPAIRED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, THUS CREATING A LONGTERM POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD AND AIR POLLUTION RISK.

REGARDING 2003 HONDA CIVIC EX MANUAL TRANS AT TIMES WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE CAR WILL ACT AS THOUGH IT HAS NO FUEL AND ONCE IT STARTS WILL DRIVE FINE THEN AFTER STOPPING FOR EXAMPLE AT A INTERSECTION WHEN READY TO ACCELERATE ONCE AGAIN THE CAR WILL ACT AS IF IT IS GOING TO STALL IN 1ST BUT SEEM TO GET BURST OF FUEL AND PROPEL VERY SUDDENLY DRIVE NORMAL FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN DO SAME SCENARIO OF BEING OUT OF GAS IF GAS IS DEPRESSED SOMEWHAT AS THOUGH IM ATTEMPTING TO RACE IT WILL START TO RESOLVE AND IT HAPEENS SO QUICK IM NOT EVEN READY TO GO TO 2ND GEAR ONCE I DO IT ACTS SLIGHTLY THE SAME WAY BUT NOT AS BAD MAYBE 25% LESS I THEN MAKE IT TO THIRD AND THEN 4TH WITH NO PROBLEMS. AND ALSO LET ME ASSURE YOU THE CAR IS NEVER AT ANYTHING LOWER THAN 1/2 TANK TO FULL FUEL WISE. MY VEHICLE (2003 HONDA CIVIC SI) CAUGHT ON FIRE ON SEPT 13TH NIGHT AROUND 9:45PM. WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO HOME FROM A MOVIE THEATER, SOMEBODY FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE SPOTTED THE FIRE AND STOPPED ME. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, LOOKED UNDER THE CAR, THERE WAS A FIRE BETWEEN TWO FRONT TIRES. I CALLED 911, POLICE AND FIRE RESPONDED AND PUT OFF THE FIRE FROM INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. MY INSURANCE COMPANY INVESTIGATED AND BLAMED ON JIFFY LUBE, WHO CHANGED THE OIL ON THE SAME DAY EVENING AROUND 6:30. JIFFY LUBE WENT WITH SOME INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION AND CONCLUDED THAT CHANGING THE OIL DIDN'T CAUSE THE FIRE AND BLAMED ON MANUFACTURER PROBLEM. BOTH INVESTIGATION CONCLUSIONS ARE SIMILAR. CONCLUSION FROM INSURANCE PARTY ( MDE ENGINEERS INC) ORIGIN OF FIRE WAS AT THE EXHAUST PIPE NEAR THE FLANGE. TOOK CAR IN FOR AIRBAG FAILURE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THE SRS UNIT IN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE. HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY TYPE OF WARRANTY OR RECALL. I HAVE AN '03 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, AND IT HAS ISSUES. IT HAS BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BACK IN '05 AND WHAT WAS THE ISSUE? BRAKING! THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL UNDER HEAVY BRAKING (THOUGH ALL THESE VEHICLES HAVE 4 WHL ABS) IN AN "ANIMAL-AVOIDANCE" ATTEMPT. I ENDED UP CAREENING SIDE-WISE SLIDING UNTIL COLLIDING WITH A UTILITY POLE, AT THE PASSGR SIDE "A" PILLAR. RACCOON DIDN'T SURVIVE. I HAD NOTICED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THE ABS, UPON ENCOUNTERING BUMPS OR JOLTS OF ANY SIGNIFICANT DEGREE, WILL "CUT-OUT" MOMENTARILY, AND FURTHER, THE "ENGINE-BRAKING' ASSOCIATED WITH THE HYBRID MOTOR-GENERATOR ALSO CUTS OUT AND DOES NOT RETURN (UNTIL AFTER THE STOP HAS BEEN CONCLUDED USING ONLY THE AVAILABLE BRAKING METHODS LEFT)(NO ABS "CHATTER" IS TO BE OBSERVED IN THESE SCENARIOS). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING AND THERE WAS ALSO AN OIL LEAK. ADDITIONALLY, THE HORN, FOG LIGHT SWITCH, AND CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN COVER WAS CUT. IN ADDITION TO THE FAILURES, THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S FRONT DOORS WERE UNABLE TO BE OPENED WITH THE KEY. THE CONTACT WAS ONLY ABLE TO UNLOCK THE TRUNK WITH THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER FOR AN IGNITION SWITCH REPAIR WHERE THE KEYS WERE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 190,000.

I HAD THE DOOR ACTUATOR REPLACED TWICE FIRST 7/20/13 MY MILAGE BEING 44,129 AND AGAIN NOW 8/19/19 WITH ONLY 71,718 MILES. ON 1/25/14 I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND I HAD TO HAVE TUMBLERS REPLACE AND LOCK CYLINDER REPLACED. THE PAST 3 YEARS I HAVE COMMENTED AND HAD THEM CHECK THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF LOCK NOISE AND ALIGNMENT. I HAD TO REPAIR A KNOWN HEADLIGHT ISSUE FOR 2003 CIVICS. THE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING ON DIM, AND THE WIRES HAD COMPLETELY MELTED AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL INFORMATION FOR AFFECTED CIVICS. MY VIN IS NOT LISTED AS PART OF THE RECALL. ALSO, MY GEAR SELECTOR CAN BE ACCIDENTALLY PLACED INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT PRESSING A BRAKE OR BUTTON ON THE KNOB. FOR EXAMPLE, MY DAUGHTER REACHED TO CHANGE THE RADIO STATION, AND ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE GEAR SELECTOR. THE CAR SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) WITHOUT PRESSING OF BREAK OR BUTTON. TAKATA RECALL: THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS TIMES WHERE I HAVE EITHER CALLED OR WENT TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE AIRBAG INFLATORS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE, FIXED TO AVOID HARM TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. IN ALMOST THREE YEARS, I HAVE NOT ONCE HEARD BACK ABOUT THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVING PARTS TO FIX THE ISSUE. WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE & BARELY PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL, THE GAS PEDAL FORCED ITSELF TO THE FLOOR & THE CAR ACCELERATED VERY QUICKLY. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR & TRIED EVERYTHING I COULD TO STOP IT! BUT IT WAS TOO LATE.... THE CAR SHOT US THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR WHERE MY LEG & FOOT HIT THE ROCK SIDING ENTRANCE GOING INTO GARAGE. I COULD TELL MY CAR WAS IN A SUPER BAD SITUATION. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THERE WEREN'T LOT OF CARS NEAR TO ME, I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHT AND TURNED MY CAR TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. IT WAS A HORRIBLE DRIVING EXPERIENCE I NEVER EVER HAD. THE COLLISION WAS FULL FRONTAL IMPACT AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL DESPITE HAVING A SEAT BELT ON. I AM HAVING A MECHANIC INVESTIGATE WHY MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, BUT IT CONCERNS ME AS I WAS INJURED IN THE CRASH. I GOT A RECALL NOTICE (NOV. 2012) ABOUT 2003 HONDA CIVIC'S HEADLIGHTS FAILING. ABOUT A WEEK LATER IN THE EARLY MORNING AS I WAS GOING TO WORK, MY CAR HEADLIGHTS FAILED AS I LEFT MY DRIVEWAY. I LEFT THE CAR AT HOME AND TOOK ANOTHER. ON RETURN FROM WORK I FOUND BOTH HEADLIGHTS OUT, NO BLOWN FUSES, HEATER FAN NOT WORKING, BOTH ABS AND BRAKE PANEL LIGHTS ON. I SCHEDULED REPAIR AT O'HARE HONDA, DES PLAINES, IL. I ARRIVED AT THE SERVICE DEPT. WITH RECALL NOTICE AND ALSO TO HAVE ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE SERVICES. I LEFT THE CAR FOR THEM TO WORK ON IT. REPAIR WORK DONE ON INVOICE #410741 DATED NOV.19, 2012. THE SERVICE WRITER CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY AND TOLD ME THE BRAKE LIGHT REPAIR REQUIRED THE MASTER CYLINDER TO BE REPLACED. I OK'D MAJOR WORK. SERVICE WRITER CALLED BACK TO SAY THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TOO. I OK'D THAT REPAIR AT LARGE COST ALSO. WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR THE SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME THEY "PUT IN A FREE ALTERNATOR AS THAT TOO WAS BAD". THE HEADLIGHT REPAIR COST $1,877.77 ($1,326.17 FOR PARTS + $551.60 LABOR). I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS REPAIR AND HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR ON THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND PUT A LARGE SURGE ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THE CAR. THIS SURGE "FRIED" THE ELECTRICS ON THE TWO BRAKE PARTS AND BURNED OUT THE HEADLIGHTS. THE "FREE" ALTERNATOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE CLUE TO THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SOME DEVICE CAN NOT BE INSTALLED INTO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING SYSTEM OF THE CAR TO PREVENT THIS EXPENSIVE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS FAILURE. THE FINAL PROBLEM WITH THIS REPAIR WAS THAT I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY RETURN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM INSTALL NEW HEADLIGHT BULBS AS THEY MUST NOT HAVE CHECKED THEM AND THEY WERE STILL BURNED OUT. FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE, THERE HAS BEEN A SHUDDER WHEN DECELERATING FROM 40+ MPH. WE HAVE ONLY TAKEN THE CAR TO OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE AND HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THAT SHUDDER IS FROM AN "OVERLOAD". WE WERE GIVEN TWO OPTIONS-IMMEDIATE REPAIR OR DRIVE UNTIL THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER COMPLETELY FAILS. RECENTLY THE IMA LIGHT CAME ON AND WE TOOK THE CAR FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE RESPONSE WAS THAT THE BATTERY PACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS BEGINNING TO FAIL. TO REPLACE THE CVT TRANSMISSION, BATTERY PACK AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $7,500. AS I HAVE READ THE OTHER COMPLAINTS NOT ONLY FROM THIS SITE, BUT ALSO OTHER SITES ON THE INTERNET, I NOW SUSPECT THAT WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ALL ALONG. 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. ORIGINAL OWNER CAR HAS 52 K. RECENTLY I EXPERIENCED A NEAR DEATH ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE ENGINE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED BY ITSELF AS I EXITED A SLIGHT UPHILL DRIVEWAY. THEY PERFORMED A BASIC DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND TOLD ME THE CAR IS OK TO DRIVE AND NOTHING IS VISIBLY WRONG WITH IT EXCEPT FOR THE DENT ON THE FRONT BUMPER. THEY HAVE CLOSED THE CASE. IN THE PAST THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES FOR A RECALL DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE CVT (CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION) BECAUSE IT JUDDERS AFTER COMING TO A STOP. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT HONDA HAS ADEQUATELY RESEARCHED MY CASE. A CAR SHOULD NOT ACCELERATE AS MINE DID AND I BELIEVE THAT THE FACT THIS MODEL HAS ALREADY HAD A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTS A MORE THAN CURSORY EVALUATION. SEVERAL INTERIOR CONTROLS, SUCH AS DOOR HANDLES AND THE PARKING BRAKE, ARE METALIZED PLASTICS. AS THE CAR AGES, THE METAL PLATING STARTS TO PEAL OFF. AS IT COMES OFF IN PIECES, IT PRESENTS A SHARP EDGE THAT CAN CUT THE USER. WE HAVE HAD THREE DIFFERENT INSTANCES OF HAND CUTS THAT COULD HAVE LED TO ACCIDENTS AS THE DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO KEEP BLOOD FROM THE CUT FROM GETTING ON CLOTHING, CAR INTERIOR, ETC. THE DEALER REPLACED A DOOR HANDLE, AT MY COST, ON THE FIRST INSTANCE. SUBSEQUENTLY WE HAVE TRIED TO REMOVE THE REST OF THE PLATING FROM THE EFFECTED PARTS. 2003 CIVIC HYBRID- 80K MILES. BOUGHT IN 2006 WITH 60K MILES. THE VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THERE IS ABOUT A 5-8 SECOND DELAY IN PRESSING THE GAS AND THE CAR GOING, WHICH HAS CAUSED ME TO ALMOST BE REAR ENDED A FEW TIMES. HISTORY OF PROBLEM: DURING TEST DRIVE VEHICLE MADE SLIGHT SHUDDER NOISE AND HESITATION BEFORE STARTING TO ACCELERATE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A NORMAL NOISE FOR HYBRIDS. I FOOLISHLY BELIEVED HIM. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SHUDDERING WAS WORSE AND I KNEW THAT IT WASN'T A NORMAL NOISE FOR ANY TRANSMISSION TO BE MAKING AT 60,000 MILES! DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK MAINTENANCE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE BATTERY REPLACEMENT, THE CHECK MAINTENANCE LIGHT WENT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR A FEW DAYS AND THE CHECK MAINTENANCE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ONCE AGAIN. LATER, THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION WHILE TRAVELING AT 35 MPH ON A WET ROAD. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP BEFORE STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR END. THE SEAT BELTS WERE IN USE AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS REQUIRED RE-GROUNDING AFTER WARPING HAD OCCURRED WHICH CAUSED A PULSATING SENSATION WHEN BRAKING. THE ROTORS WERE RE-GROUND AT 34K, BUT THE PULSATING BEHAVIOR BEGAN SOMEWHERE AROUND AN ESTIMATED 28K. THE TIRES HAD ONLY BEEN ROTATED TWICE AND BOTH TIMES WERE SECURED USING FACTORY TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS, SO INCORRECT LUG NUT SETTINGS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FACTOR. NO EVIDENCE OF GLAZING FROM RIDING THE BRAKES WAS PRESENT, NOR HAS THE CAR EVER BEEN DRIVEN WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DEPLOYED. THE CAR IS BELIEVED TO BE DRIVEN WITHIN NORMAL TOLERANCES SINCE WE PURCHASED NEW IN 6/03 AND HAS BEEN USED MORE FOR COMMUTING MODE RATHER THAN A LOT OF STOP AND GO USEAGE. THE FACTORY REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 10% REMAINING (WEAR TAB JUST STARTED WARNING 10 MILES EARLIER), WHILE THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE NEARLY 70% ORIGINAL MATERIAL REMAINING. I HAVE INSTALLED RAYBESTOS CERAMIC PADS ON THE REAR, BUT MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS AN ENGINEERING FLAW AND NOT DRIVEN MIS-USE/ABUSE AND THAT I'LL LIKELY HAVE TO REPAY FOR THIS REPEATEDLY IF I'M TYPICAL OF OTHERS WHO'VE COMPLAINED OF WARPED ROTORS ON THE 03 ACCORD EX - 6 CYL.

[XXX] ASSEMBLED IN CANADA PURCHASED AS A NEW VEHICLE. 2003 HONDA CIVIC EX MODEL I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2003 AS A NEW VEHICLE. I HAVE PURCHASED A SERVICE CONTRACT AND THE VEHICLE CAME WITH A MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER OR THE DEALER WILL HONOR THE WARRANTY FOR THE LIST OF PROBLEMS REPORTED. BRAKES LEAKED FLUID AND WAS IN THE SHOP MORE THAN 6 TIMES. BRAKES HAD TO BE FLOORED FROM THE ORIGINAL DATE OF PICK UP FROM DEALER ( MARCH 2003) A LETTER 11 PAGES LONG WAS SENT TO MANUFACTURER MAKING THEM AWARE OF THE ALL THE GAUGES ON THE DASH BOARD THAT MALFUNCTION. THE SPEEDOMETER GETS STUCK ON 30 MPH, THE FUEL GAUGE SOMETIMES GIVES A READING OF 3/4 TANK FULL WHEN THERE IS NO FUEL. I AM NOT ABLE TO TELL WHAT SPEED I AM TRAVELING AND ESPECIALLY AT NIGHTS I AM NOT ABLE TO TELL IF THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE OR NEUTRAL BECAUSE THE LIGHTS FROM THESE SPECIFIC PARTS DON'T WORK. THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE FUSE BECAUSE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRING. THE CONNECTION HAS TO BE TAKEN OFF THE BATTERY TO GET THESE COMPONENTS TO WORK AGAIN. I AM NOT A MECHANIC AND DON'T HAVE TIME FOR ALL THESE PROBLEMS. I HAVE RECEIVED POINTS ON MY DRIVERS LICENSE FOR SPEEDING. THESE PROBLEMS WERE REPORTED MORE THAN A YEAR AGO AND THE MANUFACTURER FAILED TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS. I WAS STRUCK ON MY FRONT BUMPER BY A DRIVER DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME. HE WAS MAKING A 3-POINT TURN AND DIDN'T KNOW THAT I WAS BEHIND HIM. HE ACCELERATED INTO ME AND EVEN THOUGH MY CAR SUSTAINED MINIMAL DAMAGE, MY NECK RECEIVED ALL OF THE CRASH ENERGY. I HAVE HARD-COPY EVIDENCE OF MY NECK FROM MRIS AND CAT SCANS TAKEN 1 YEAR BEFORE THE ACCIDENT; I HAD A HEALTHY NECK. I NOW HAVE 3 DISINTERGRATING DISCS AND CONSTANT PAIN. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT (1) THE RATCHETING OF THE SEAT BELTS IS ASSOCIATED WITH CHILD SAFETY PROTECTION AND (2) THE RATCHETING SHOULD ONLY OCCUR WHEN THE BELT IS EXTENDED FAR OUT FOR ATTACHING TO A CHILD SAFETY SEAT. I HAVE DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM IN THE PRESENCE OF THE SERVICE MGR. THE DEALER ALLEGES TO HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT; HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. I HAVE HAD OTHER EXPERIENCES WITH AMERICAN HONDA ALLEGEDLY REPLACING A PART (REFERENCE COMPLAINT # 10008215, IGNITION SWITCH RECALL) ONLY TO FIND THAT HONDAS STATEMENTS AND CLAIMS ARE HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE. ONE OF THE COMMITMENTS WAS TO PERFORM A FUEL CONSUMPTION TEST ON MY HYBRID. AS OF 6/12/03, NEITHER THE REPRESENTATIVE NOR ANYONE FROM AMERICAN HONDA HAS LIVED UP TO THEIR COMMITMENTS. ACCORDING TO THE FUEL ECONOMY GUIDE POSTED ON THE VEHICLE, THE HYBRID IS SUPPOSED TO GET 48 MPG/CITY AND 47 MPG/HIGHWAY. EVEN THE FINE PRINT STATES THAT THE ACTUAL MILEAGE SHOULD RANGE BETWEEN 40 56 IN THE CITY AND 39-55 ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE BEEN TRACKING/DOCUMENTING MY ACTUAL MPG. MY MPG HAS NEVER EXCEEDED 35. SINCE FUEL ECONOMY IS THE PRIMARY REASON FOR PURCHASING THE HYBRID, POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE EXTREMELY SKEPTICAL OF THE CLAIMS. *JB
