Transmission drive belt snapped while driving. Took it to Honda dealer to diagnose, they found it to be the drive belt that snapped in the cvt transmission. There was a recall involving the same year make and model (2015 honda civic) however my car wasn't part of the recall even though this is a known problem with cars excluded from this recall. Cars included in the recall recieved software updates to decrease the tension to the belt, which can cause it to snap under stress. My car wasn't included in this software update and I believe that is a mistake. Honda denied us coverage because we weren't "loyal enough" despite driving mostly only Honda vehicles for my entire life. As for safety concern I was nearly stopped when it snapped so I was able to pull over, so it wasn't a safety concern in my instance atleast. Dealer took pictures of the transmission fluid pan and found metal debris from the metal drive belt that snapped. I just wonder if my car was included in this recall for the software update if it would still be driving today. There were no lights or signs of warning it just snapped unexpectedly. I have always changed the cvt fluid with Honda genuine fluid and don't believe maintenence to be a problem. More the fact that this should have been included in a recall this was a very bad year for Honda and the cvt transmission from what I am now realizing from research

No warning lights or symptoms prior to issue. Driving on the highway and vehicle suddenly started revving like it was in neutral, failing to accelerate, then died on the side of the highway.

How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Answer: When the transmission slips or malfunctions, the acceleration of the car doesn't act as it should. For example, when waiting to join a flow of vehicle traffic, or when waiting to cross a busy intersection, the delay in acceleration or the slipping of the transmission is increasing the risk of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or causing my vehicle to block other vehicles. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Answer: Yes. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Answer: No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Answer: No. Additional information: I spoke with Honda in 2023 to see if there was a recall related to my CVT transmission. They took my information, but advised there was no recall. I had a similar conversation with them in 2024 because it seemed to be getting worse, but there still was no recall. Now in 2025, it still feels like it's getting worse and making it feel unsafe to drive the car.

Exact problem was recalled for same year for 143,000 vehicles but my VIN was not in the recall. I was diving and vehicle made a loud noise and all the sudden stopped accelerating. It was like my car was in neutral. Put my car in park when I stopped and car started rolling backwards like it wasn’t in park. It finally went into park and I shut car off and restarted tried putting in drive again. It made a loud grinding noise and would not go in drive still acted like in neutral. Had to have car towed from scene. Looked up transmission issues and saw there was a recall for this exact issue.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway. Upon attempting to shift the vehicle into park, the contact observed that the gear shift lever was loosened and was moving freely back and forth. The “Service Transmission” warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 100,000.

I was in a car accident, I rear ended a vehicle. The other vehicle was stopped, I did not break at all and ran into them. My airbags did not deploy & there was substantial damage to my vehicle (deemed totaled by insurance assessor). My safety was put at risk as I sustained whiplash (whiplash resulted in neck pain day(s) following and bruising on my upper legs. When the assessor reached out to me, he stated that the air bags should have deployed and seemed to be a malfunction.

Exterior paint is badly bubbling and peeling in multiple locations (around rear window, around rear license plate, top of trunk. I reported issue to the dealership when I took it in for service and they cannot/will not help to repair and cover the cost of repair. Yes, my car is available for inspection upon request.

An incident took place where a vehicle hit mine on in the front end when the vehicle was parked about 3 weeks prior. August of 2022, one of my vehicles pistons flew out the side of the engine and thankfully onto the ground not injuring or killing anyone, waited and waited for AAA as there were issues getting them, the vehicle was brought to Vermette Auto Body in Feeding Hills MA, the insurance denied the claim for the engine after multiple experts saying it was not collision/insurance related that it was mechanical/manufactuor. The manufacturer when contacted at Balise Honda stated there was nothing they could do. The vehicle is now $10,000 in debt with at least 8,000 dollars worth of repair and considering the piston and rod were the culprit and there is now recalls on the other years I wanted to bring mine forward because I am now in substantial debt due to this and no vehicle nor the ability to purchase a new one. Prior the the incident I had to replace the alternator, Transmission, Blower motor as well. I put new brakes and rotors on too just prior and now the vehicle can’t move and it is parked at my grandmothers and i am [XXX] in College and this really put me in the hole and I have no vehicle. I hope this can be looked into and the resolution the replacement of the engine and anything else needed to complete the work and assist with a substantial payment to Ally Financial for the vehicle to help me get back on track with payment. or issue a new vehicle taking the old one off my hands and covering the costs to register it and taxes. I recently went in for an oil change and was told my transmission cap was missing. I have not had any work done on my car since the last oil change and no one touched the transmission fluid. The cap isn't even placed somewhere on the engine- it's just gone! I've driven hundreds of miles with no cap and there is no telling what debris has gone into the transmission fluid now. I will have to do a complete transmission fluid flush and replacement plus buy a new cap. I have seen others having the same issues as me and was told to report this to the NHTSA. This is my daily driver and I take children back and forth to school on the interstate daily. If my transmission had gone while I was driving I don't know what could have happened.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after purchasing the vehicle. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of the purchase, the mileage was approximately 76,000. It was later discovered that the mileage on the title was 193,000. The contact became aware of fraud after receiving a letter from the State that their records indicated that the mileage was 193,000 when the vehicle was registered in Kentucky. The vehicle was registered in Kentucky in February 2025.

The car started exhibiting signs of electrical issues like unable to start, unable to turn on, faster draining batteries in 2022. These issues lead to numerous appointments and visits to dealer and specialty shops. The battery, Starter, Alternators have all been tested and replaced costing thousands of dollars. The problem and escalated unabated despite these costly interventions. The electrical issues became a safety issue this week when after being jumped started, the electrical systems became unstable when driven. The radio and display cut in and out and started shaking when slowing or stopping. The car seemed about to cut out and disabled in traffic. When I returned home, the car was again completely dead. Another visit to dealer after previous visits mandated an “Overnight Draw Diagnostic Test” costing $162.50 to throughly investigate this issue. This overnight test required me to rent a car while this diagnostic was being conducted. The Honda dealer reported the cause and remedy of their test as Replacement The Right Front Outside Door Handle due to a “Large Parasitic Draw caused by The RF OUTSIDE SMART HANDLE DRAINING THE BATTERY REC TO REPLACE HANDLE AD FIRST STEP IN REPAIRS”. “Replaced the Right Front Door Handle, Reinstalled Door Panel, Set Vehicle up for A Draw Test, ReChecked and found No Excessive Draw At this time. Confirmed Repairs. The total cost of this repair was $836.64 pretax. Additional cost included rental car $462.00 This repair is clearly attributed to the Manufacturer and should have been covered as such. Additionally, given the escalating problems this design and engineering cost, it could be attributed to accidents and deaths.

Car key remotes both failed within the 7 years. They had to replace the SOP Fuse Box and Imobi Unit. The parts should not have failed within this time. The remote would open the trunk when the open and close feature was lightly touched and created a safety issue for the driver to secure the car and the alarm feature was not working. It was very costly to repair. With the cooperation of the car dealership, they reduced the cost to about $1300. This occured in August 2022.

It took 4 tries before my car would start. I went to auto zone to have the battery & alternator & starter tested. Battery was dead so I had it replaced. A week later, it took 4 tries before my car would start. I took it to auto zone for testing again. Alternator was bad so I got it replaced. A week later it took 3 tries before my car would start. I went to auto zone for testing again. Alternator was bad so I had a shop replace it again. A couple days later my car wouldn't start. I was stranded & needed to get to work. The mechanic that replaced the alternators for me came to my rescue. He tested & looked up the problem. He thought the sensor on the black terminal of the battery was bad. I ordered 1 & got it replaced. My car wouldn't start the next day after work & I was stranded again. The mechanic told me to unplug the black sensor so that my car would start & I could get home safely. The next day I took it to the shop & more tests were run. Finally he told me that I need to go to a dealership & tell them I need a TSB firmware update & that there was nothing he could do for me. Honda needs to be held accountable for this.

Vehicle battery would discharge over night resulting in a dead battery. Took the vehicle to dealer to fix. The problem was a parasitic draw on fuse 29 which was traced to a faulty front passenger lock actuator. Defect was determine after a review of NHTSA ID # 11378656

II HAD PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT AND WAS PREPARING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. TO ALLOW AN ONCOMING CAR TO PASS, I STOPPED IN THE INTERSECTION. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME WAS FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY, AND HIT MY REAR BUMPER. UPON IMPACT, MY CAR SUDDENLY REVVED AND ACCELERATED TO PERHAPS 20-30 MPH. I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED. I QUICKLY APPLIED THE HAND BRAKE, AND MY VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP IN THE DRIVEWAY OF A FACING BUSINESS. FORTUNATELY, NO HUMAN OR PROPERTY DAMAGE OCCURRED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALER, WHO THOROUGHLY INSPECTED THE APPLICABLE COMPONENTS; THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS, SO THEY CONTACTED HONDA, WHO SUBSEQUENTLY CAME OUT BUT AGAIN COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED THAT I MIGHT HAVE ERRONEOUSLY APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE, BUT I KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT TRUE. I HAVE MANY YEARS OF EXCELLENT DRIVING EXPERIENCE, AND QUICK REACTION TIME. I AM ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE THAT I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE, AND THAT MY CAR EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. WITH A SUPPOSED CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH, THIS CAR CONTINUES TO BE MY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION. HOWEVER, I ALWAYS HAVE AN UNDERLYING FEAR THAT THIS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION MIGHT OCCUR AGAIN.

I WAS SLOWLY TURNING MY VEHICLE INTO A PARKING SPACE IN THE PARKING LOT OF A RESTAURANT. THE CAR WAS FACING THE BUILDING WITH A SIDEWALK BETWEEN THE CAR AND THE BUILDING. THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN.PRESSING ON THE BRAKE DID NOT SLOW IT DOWN AT ALL. THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD, JUMPING THE CURBED SIDEWALK AND STOPPED WHEN IT CRASHED INTO THE BRICK WALL OF THE BUILDING. I WAS ABLE TO STEER AWAY FROM THE LARGE WINDOW THAT WAS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME. IT WAS NOON AND FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO CUSTOMERS ON THE SIDEWALK. THE VEHICLE SUFFERED EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE COSTING $7773 IN REPAIRS. I WAS EVALUATED AT THE SCENE BY AMBULANCE CREW. I HAD AN ELEVATED BLOOD PRESSURE AND A SORE SHOULDER/NECK. THE DEALER'S STAFF AND THE REGIONAL MANAGER INSISTED THAT THIS WAS NOT A FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE, BUT HUMAN ERROR. I KNOW I WAS NOT PRESSING ON THE GAS. THE REGIONAL MANAGER ASKED ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE CRASH SITE TO DEMONSTRATE FOR HIM WHAT HAD HAPPENED AS IT WOULD MAKE IT MORE CLEAR TO HIM THAN READING ABOUT IT. I DECLINED THIS LUDICROUS REQUEST! A POLICE REPORT IS AVAILABLE AS WELL AS INSURANCE CLAIMS AND PHOTOGRAPHS.

3 INCIDENTS OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION - EACH TIME I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING SPACE SLOWLY WHEN THE ENGINE REV'D AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD. THE 3RD INCIDENT ENDED WITH MY CAR SPEEDING THROUGH A PLATE GLASS WINDOW. THE DEALERSHIP ASSUMES THAT I HIT THE ACCELERATOR INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE. I DEFINITELY DID NOT. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND WAS GLIDING INTO THE PARKING SPOT. WHEN THE CAR SPED UP. THE BRAKE FAILED TO STOP IT.

I HAVE 89000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE OVER THE PAST 12 MONTHS MY JUNE CONSUMPTION HAS DECREASED 12-25 MILES PER GALLON. UNDER SIMILAR DRIVING CONDITIONS MY MILEAGE DROPPED FROM AVG OF 50MPG TO 42 MPG. HONDA DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSES THE PROBLEM DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE DAILY 8-10 STOP & GO AND HIGHWAY DRIVING AT SNAGGED OF 45 MPG

CAR ENTERED A PARKING SPOT WITH THE CLUCH PLACED IN PARK. SUDDENLY THE CAR ABRUPTLY WENT OVER THE CURB WAS STOPPED BY A CAR PARKED OPPOSITE SIDE. ABOUT 15 MIN. LATER THE LIGHTS WENT ON. THERE WAS NO MOVEMENT WHEN PLACED IN PARK.

Hard to steer to the left and car pulls to the right if you let go of steering wheel. Yes it has been reproduced & confirmed by the local dealer, & i was told this case usually happen when car was involved in accident but my car has never had any accident, there is no warning light, i thought it has something to do with alignment, i had it aligned early this year and i was told to have the power steering rack be check.

THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2015 HONDA CIVIC IS DEFECTIVE. THE STEERING WHEEL IS DISINTEGRATING MAKING THE HAND GRIP ON THE WHEEL UNSAFE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN KNOWN BY HONDA CORP FOR YEARS AND THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THIS UNSAFE STEERING WHEEL DUE TO VEHICLE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. HOWEVER THEY DID NOT STATE THAT THE STEERING WHEEL IS OPERATION IS SAFE. HONDA STATED THEY WOULD ONLY REPLACE IF THE NHTSA DIRECTED A RECALL FOR REPLACEMENT. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS 9TH GENERATION HONDA CIVIC'S WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. MY GRANDSON'S CAR IS A 2013 CIVIC WITH THE SAME ISSUE DISINTEGRATION AND GUMMY STICKY STEERING WHEEL. WHY WOULD THIS BE CONSIDERED A SAFE OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE? A SEARCH ONLINE WILL SHOW A NUMBER OF CIVIC OWNERS HAVE REPLACED THIS MODEL STEERING WHEEL AT THEIR OWN COST. I HAVE OWNED A NUMBER OF HONDA'S TO INCLUDE CIVIC, PILOT, ACURA TL, ACCORDS AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE FOR ALL 9TH GENERATION HONDA CIVIC'S, ESPECIALLY WITH YOUNG PEOPLE PURCHASING THIS AFFORDABLE CAR.

I WENT OUT TO MOVE MY CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY THIS MORNING AND WAS SHOCKED THAT MY POWER STEERING HAD SUDDENLY FAILED OUT OF NOWHERE WHILE BACKING UP. THE CAR WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO MANEUVER IN THE DRIVEWAY (CERTAINLY CAN'T DRIVE IT ANYWHERE), AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING APPEARED ON THE DASH. 20 MINUTES LATER, IT WAS BACK TO NORMAL, BUT NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT.

EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR, THE STEERING HAS BEEN DRIVING ME CRAZY!! I CANNOT KEEP THIS VEHICLE STRAIGHT WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE ORIGINAL CHEAP TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. I AM ON MY 3RD SET OF TIRES AND 3 ALIGNMENTS FROM THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO FIX!!! NO MATTER WHAT I DO.... THE CAR SWERVES ALL OVER THE ROAD. ESPECIALLY WHEN GOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CONTACTED HONDA CORPORATE AND THEY BASICALLY SAID THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. DEAR HONDA...U ARE PUTTING MY LIFE AT RISK WITH THIS 2015 HONDA CIVIC. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE INSTABILITY OF THIS CAR. IT'S SERIOUSLY MENTALLY​ AND PHYSICALLY TAXING TO KEEP THIS VEHICLE FROM VEERING ALL OVER THE ROAD. AROUND 8500 MILES WHILE DRIVE 35 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT HITTING THE CURB CAUSING $1200 PLUS DAMAGES TO THE WHEEL, ETC. AROUND 12,250 MILES WHILE DRIVING 45-50 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND RAN OFF THE ROAD CAUSING A BROKEN BACK AND $725 IN DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL SKIRTS. THIS HAPPENED 5/13/16. SUBSEQUENTLY THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES AROUND 40-45 MPH BUT WITH NO ACCIDENTS AS NO CARS WERE IN THE RIGHT LANE. REPORTED TO AMERICAN HONDA AND THE CASE WAS DISMISSED AS THEY CAN'T IDENTIFY ANY PROBLEMS. THE STEERING WHEEL WOBBLES BUT NOT CODES SHOW UP.

TPMS LIGHT WILL NOT RESET IF ALL FOUR TIRES ARE NOT THE SAME BRAND. TIRE PRESSURES HAVE BEEN NORMAL. MULTIPLE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE WITH NO AVAIL. THE SAFETY AND WARNING LIGHT IS ANNOYING AND DISTRACTING. IT ALSO MAKES PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE FEEL WEARY OF THE CAR'S SAFETY WHICH MAKES THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO USE TO TRANSPORT BUSINESS PARTNERS, ETC.

TWO OF MY FOUR MICHELIN PILOT SPORT TIRES HAVE BELT SEPARATION. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF IMPACT DAMAGE (BULGED SIDEWALLS) THE TIRES HAVE UNDER 28K MILES, AND THE REMAINING TREAD I ESTIMATE AT 6/32S. BOTH OF THESE TIRES HAVE SPENT MOST OF THEIR LIFE ON THE REAR OF MY 2015 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN. BEING ON THE REAR (TO ME) MEANS NO WEIGHT OF THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION, NO STEERING FORCE, NO ACCELERATION FORCE, AND UNDER 50% OF BRAKING FORCE. THE FRONT TIRES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM WITH A GRADUAL INCREASE IN NOISE FROM THE REAR, AND I CANNOT PINPOINT THE EXACT START. THE DIAGNOSIS CAME FROM COSTCO TIRE CENTER #0328. THE TECHNICIAN SHOWED ME AND HAD ME TOUCH/FEEL THE DEFECTS WITH MY HANDS. THE DEFECTS ARE IN THE CENTER OF THE TREAD, AND ARE NOT NEAR THE SIDES AT ALL. MY TIRE SIZE IS 215/55R16 I DO NOT HAVE PHOTOS OR FURTHER ATTACHMENTS. I CAN PROVIDE THE SERIAL NUMBERS IF REQUIRED. THE DATE BELOW REPRESENTS THE DIAGNOSIS DATE. THE ZERO SPEED REPRESENTS AT THE TIME OF DIAGNOSIS WHILE THE CAR WAS ON THE LIFT.

ONGOING ISSUE. HEADREST ANGLE IS NONADJUSTABLE (ONLY HEIGHT IS) AND THUS ISN'T SAFE FOR EVERYONE. IT PUSHES THE HEAD DOWN AND COMPROMISES SPINAL ALIGNMENT. PEOPLE WITH THINNER TORSOS OR WHO SIT MORE UPRIGHT ARE AT THE MOST RISK. OPTIONS TO FIX THIS INVOLVE USING PADDING ON THE BACK OF THE SEAT OR BENDING THE BARS IN THE HEADREST, BOTH OF WHICH WOULD PROVIDE SUFFICIENT DAILY COMFORT, BUT COULD RESULT IN INJURY IN AN ACCIDENT. A MUCH BETTER SOLUTION WOULD BE THE ABILITY TO ADJUST THE ANGLE OF THE HEAD RESTRAINT FOR PROPER POSITIONING AND ASSOCIATED INSTRUCTIONS IN THE SAFETY SECTION OF THE CAR'S MANUAL.

For the second time in 6 months, my car has malfunctioned at a stop light. Both times, the vehicle was unresponsive when I tried to go from fully stopped at a red light. In both instances, the (red) oil light and the battery light came on at the same time/after (meaning they weren’t on before) and the brake locked up. Pressing the gas pedal did nothing. Turning the car off completely and restarting cleared the issue in both cases, but I’m worried that it could happen again. Today when it happened, a vehicle behind me behaved aggressively toward me (even though I put my hazard lights on when I realized the problem), and brake checked me once I was moving again. The first time it happened, I took my car to a Honda dealership and they weren’t able to find anything wrong with the car. There were no codes that gave them any info about the issue and they weren’t able to replicate it. At that time, they did recommend a transmission fluid exchange, which I got. The car drove somewhat better (it had been jerky before) after the service, but the improvement was temporary as the jerkiness has returned. While this problem has only presented itself at stoplights l’m terrified of what might happen on a highway or in a situation where the people around me are even more aggressive than the man I encountered today.

The transmission fill plug comes out and the transmission fluid then gets all over under the hood. This is the second time this has happened as the first time I brought it to the Honda dealership, they said its nothing to worry about and happens as they put a new cap in and cleaned it up. This can not be ok as it has only been about a year an only 15,000 to 20,000 sence the first occurrence. I can feal a difference when operating the vehicle as it shifts weird and drags the car excessively, there is no warning. My loved ones operate this vehicle and I do not want to see any accidents happen as I have heard of them happening to the same year, make, and model 2015 Honda Civic EX. I would love for an inspection.

ABOUT 15 SECONDS ENTERING THE FREEWAY I DECIDED TO MERGE. AS I ACCELERATED I HEARD SOMETHING POP OR LIKE A CLUNK/THUMP SOUND, LIKE SOMETHING HAD SHIFTED, THEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. THEN WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS MY RPM WAS MOVING BUT MY CAUSE WAS NOT. GOOD THING I WAS STILL ON THE FAR RIGHT HAND SIDE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING ANY ACCIDENTS. I was on a trip in my 2015 honda civic and going down the highway and all of a sudden the RPM went way up and then the vehicle lost power completely. It left me stranded in the middle of nowhere. Turns out the CVT belt came apart causing metal fragments to gather on the speed sensor and make it malfunction. This is a common know issue and well documented on online forums. The cause of failure is excessively high hydraulic pressure within the transmission due to a computer programming error. A Honda recall updated the software. Some Civics have an internal component that was not hardened as much as it should have been. Honda believed they identified, by manufacture date, the Civics that did not receive that weak part and therefore left those Civics out of the recall. However, many, many other Civic owners including me have still experienced catastrophic failure of our transmissions. The software update that the Oct. 2015 recall provided took 20 minutes and cost Honda $33.33 in labor. Those of us with failed transmissions are having to pay $5000-$6000. The cars have to be towed to a dealer for diagnosis for even the possibility of having Honda cover the repair. Generally Honda refuses. This is an extreme safety concern if it fails while traveling in traffic and a nightmare to try to replace. Prior to the transmission failure, I had noticed that the fill plug on the transmission had popped off which was weird. I replaced it and it kept popping off. Turns out after looking online that countless other 2014-15 owners have also experienced this problem caused by pressure buildup within the transmission. I recommended that at minimum Honda be required to issue a software update for all 2014-15 Honda civics regardless of whether they have the internal hardened parts! Really hoping something can be done about this to protect future drivers and keep our roads safe. Thank you!!

I was driving in stop and go city traffic and came to a stop at a red light and noticed smoke or steam coming from the hood. Upon pulling away from the light once it turned green, I noticed I had reduced acceleration and pulled over quickly. I have yet to get it in to the Honda dealership but will shortly. Upon roadside inspection from a mechanic, it is confirmed the the cvt transmission plug has come off and the transmission has lost fluid. Additionally, when turning left, the car will jar around and rumble if you turn the steering wheel too much.

While I was driving on the highway I heard a rattling noise in the engine bay and every single light and system showed a malfunction on my dash. Then I was not able to accelerate and had to roll to a stop. This was extremely dangerous both for me and for the other vehicles on the highway because the speed limit was 55 MPH and between not knowing why all of my system warning lights turned on I didn't even notice that I was not accelerating anymore for a few moments. The worst part was that the area in which I was driving had no shoulder and it was by a body of water. When I was relatively safe out of the way I called a tow truck to take me to a repair shop a block away from my residence in the event it was something minor. The first repair shop looked at it and stated it was an engine issue and I should take it to the dealer/repair shop we normally take it to. I then needed to get it towed again to the other shop and the problem was confirmed to be a catastrophic engine failure by the Honda dealer/repair shop which we always take our vehicle to for maintenance (literally got an oil change and filters replaced less than a month prior) and had to pay to get our engine replaced. The original engine is not available for inspection as we had to get it replaced. The vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer because they stated there was no open recall on our vehicle even if there were other vehicles with the same year make and model with an open recall on an issue that could cause something like this.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal and brake pedal felt stiff and the vehicle had jolted while depressing the brake pedal before losing automotive power. The check engine, brake, transmission, and several other warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that after accelerating from a stop, the vehicle had jolted a day prior. The contact stated that an AAA service representative attempted to jump-start the vehicle however, the vehicle would lose automotive power once disconnected. The vehicle was towed to a local independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with codes: P1440 and P0AE1. The contact was advised by the independent mechanic that the failure was related to Service Bulletin: 20-030. The local dealer was contacted however advised that contact that the VIN was not included in the Service Bulletin. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

My 2015 Honda Civic has 69070 miles on it. My car will straight out just stop in the middle of the road. The breaks and gas will stop engaging. This has been happening since late March of 2021, and continues to happen at least once a week.There’s still power as the outside lights, radio, dash lights are all still on and functioning. I took the car to a Honda dealership and they said it was the REC VSA modulator. So I have had to replace the REC VSA modulator. The car ran beautifully for a whole week, then it started again. I took it to another auto shop and had them diagnose the car and they changed the MAP sensor, and the main engine bay fuse. I’ve had the alternator and started checked and they’re both fine. The 9th gen honda civics have electrical and computer issues and Honda should be held responsible because they’re a safety issue. I am so afraid of what could happen I only take my car to work and home. Something needs to be done about these issues.

The salespeople are very unprofessional and don’t take the wellbeing and safety of their customers or the surrounding public seriously. My husband and I went to Stark to test drive a couple of their cars. The first car that we test drove the Honda Civic should have been properly repaired first before ever being placed on the lot. To even get the parking brake lowered, my husband had to disassemble the plastic manifold, second the car was lowered to the point where it scraped the road whenever we were turning on an incline, finally there was some mechanical issue with the gear shift where we weren’t able to reverse. When we got back from the test drive the salesperson explained to us that they knew of this issue and that there’s a trick to it. This trick wasn’t mentioned to us at the start of the test drive, nor did the salesperson go with us to explain it to us on the road. This is very dangerous, what if there was an emergency and we needed to reverse. Not knowing this trick not only puts our lives in danger but also all the other drivers in the area. I’m not a car person, but even I know that a car should be able to go forwards and backwards.

Took to mechanic and they said it was faulty start button was replacef and in June of 2025 transmission plug was popped out and all lights started throwing warning signal again and car died won't restart.

I bought the 2015 Honda Civic in 2019 and had to replace the transmission in 2020 and now in February of 2023 I need to replace the transmission again. No service lights came on for transmission until the shop told me my trans was going out and I would need to replace it again. He said it is a common problem for the 2015 Honda civic because of the CVT transmission.

The contact stated that while their son was driving in a parking garage at approximately 3 - 4 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the driver had to use excessive force to regain control of the vehicle. The contact stated that there was an abnormal rumbling sound coming from the steering wheel. The air bag warning light was illuminated and other functions on the steering wheel became inoperable, including the horn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the cable reel was fractured and was interfering with the steering controls of the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. I have a 2015 Honda Civic that I just came back from the dealer with because they warning light for my airbag came on. At the dealership the code was cleared and I was told that it could be a cable reel and then reading the report from the dealership, it states that it could be a faulty airbag I feel this is very unsafe, and told let’s see what happens. I feel this is unsafe for me to be driving a car with a faulty airbag and possibly a cable that doesn’t work. My vehicle has 71000 miles and is always maintained.

After coming to a complete stop at a Stop Sign with the Honda Civil, my husband (he) started to accelerate, but he could only go up to about 20 mph in a 55-mile zone. Next, the car made a bump noise when his foot was on gas pedal. The car went about 100 feet before it started to slow down on a busy highway. The car was not going the speed limit because it couldn't pick up speed. Multiple cars and trucks had to go around. Next, he had to pull over to the shoulder of the road because the car wouldn't pull no matter what gear it was placed in. The car stopped completely, and it had to be tolled home due to inability to move. Langdale Honda was called and asked about a possible recall on the transmission. They said that I would have to pay about $140 for an inspection for the problem.

The issue according to the NTHSB is the “TCM” or transmission control module. resulting in cars wheels locking up, or spinning out of control and not changing gears (this is what happened to me and repeated itself when I waited a week and tried driving around my neighborhood ) the issue is supposed to result in transmission and Powertrain failure, making engine wanting to redline very easily. I’m lucky I didn’t burn my engine up. I didn’t purchase a car in 2018 at 17,000 miles and expect the transmission to fall out at 45,000 miles. That’s unacceptable and I was never notified, and Andy mohr purports that my vehicle was either serviced or software changed resulting in no issue, however a transmission dying at 45,000 mi on a Honda Civic is not right and I suspect Honda notified the previous lessee and they did not service the car or had it improperly serviced. Otherwise I see no reason to have a car fall apart at 45,000 miles. I drive like grandma.

I WAS DRIVING AT APROX. 15 MPH ON A EVEN ROAD SURFACE SO IVE RULED OUT VIBRATIONS AND ALSO IT WAS ABOUT 75 DEGREES F SO HEAT COULDN'T HAVE CAUSED IT FROM RAPID TEMP CHANGES. THE ONLY THING I HAVE LET TO WONDER IS IF IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE DEFROSTER THAT CAUSED THE GLASS TO BECOME TOO HOT AND CAUSE THIS. MY DEALERSHIP HAS NOT TAKEN ANY MEASURES TO PULLING AMPS FROM THE DEFROSTER TO SEE IF THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE DEFROSTER AND HAVE REFUSED TO SERVICE THIS UNDER A MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. I HAVE A 2015 HONDA CIVIC WITH THE LX TRIM PACKAGE. THE SCREEN FOR THE BACKUP CAMERA IS SMALL AND BACK ABOUT 3 INCHES UNDER THE DASH OVERHANG. IN BRIGHT DAYLIGHT THIS SCREEN IS UNREADABLE DURING BACKUP DUE TO LIGHT WASHOUT AND GLARE. IT WORKS WELL AT NIGHT, BUT ALMOST NOT AT ALL IN SUNLIGHT. BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MOUNTED REAR WINDOW THERE IS NO VISIBILITY FOR SEVERAL FEET BEHIND THE CAR WHEN BACKING UP WITHOUT THE BACKUP CAMERA. I HAVE BACKED INTO SEVERAL THINGS THAT DID NOT STICK UP ABOVE THE TRUNK LINE THAT COULD HAVE JUST AS EASILY BEEN A SMALL CHILD. NOTICED A SHUDDER WITH VEHICLE DURING 1ST WEEK OF PURCHASE. THOUGHT IT WAS A LITTLE WEIRD SINCE BEING A NEW CAR. THIS SHUDDER LATER TRANSITIONED INTO A KNOCK OR PINGING OF SOME SORT WHILE JERKING AND ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ANY DRIVER INPUT. VERY SCARY AT THIS POINT...GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND PARKED THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. UPON START UP, VEHICLE STILL IDLING VIOLENTLY. HAD TO GET TO WORK SO JUST BRAKED MOST OF THE WAY AND DROVE WITH ADDED CAUTION. AFTER WORK, CAR BEHAVED NORMALLY ON MY WAY HOME WITH ECON AND AIR CON BOTH OFF. My husband and I purchased a 2015 Honda Civic 3 years ago. We have maintained proper maintenance and have the documentation on this. At 118,000 ish miles, my [XXX] son was merging onto the interstate at night just a day or so after a snowstorm. As he was merging the car unexpectedly began to lose power. He tried to compensate by pushing the gas harder but realized her needed to pull over. The merge lane had construction cones and there was a bank of snow on the shoulder prohibiting him from getting over safely. He contacted the police he came out and he contacted a tow truck. He had to sit at the end of a merge lane for 45 minutes before a police officer could get there. We are fortunate he was not plowed by a semi or other vehicle. The car was towed to Richmond Car & Truck Center. After inspection, it was determined a new motor was needed. We paid to have that replaced only to be told after that it was still not operable. The transmission was out. The likely-hood of a motor and transmission going out was practically unheard of. The mechanic was even at a loss. I researched and found my son's make/model did have a recall on the transmission although, his was not part of that. We are thankful he is safe but I have never heard of a Honda losing a transmission/engine at 118,000 miles. We believe this is a transmission flaw. No warning light was ever illuminated and no issues of a problem ever existed until this incident. We have documentation. This has been reported to Honda but I have not received a response. For example, in 2015, Honda recalled the 2014–2015 Honda Civic and 2015 Fit due to an issue with the CVT control software. In some CVT operation modes, the software was programmed to use high hydraulic pressure, which could put a lot of stress on the drive pulley shaft. All light appeared on the dashboard and we took the vehicle in for inspection. We learned that the VSA Modulator had failed and was a safety risk as it controlled the brakes. This needs to be recalled as the soldering was not done correctly when originally manufactured and this particular part has failed on a high percentage of the hondas that come equipped with the modulator. Please look into recalling this as many drivers have experienced their brakes locking up while driving due to this modulator failing.

I was driving home from work and as I took off from a standstill, I accelerated and my car began to reach 4000-5000 RPM immediately but my speedometer read 4-6 mph. I made it to through the intersection and drove until I reached a safe parking lot. It began puttering through the parking lot, almost jerking, but sounded like I was accelerating at top speeds. Then, it stopped completely. I had it towed to a mechanic that I trust and it turns out that my transmission plug/cap was missing entirely, and all my transmission fluid leaked out without any notice, warning light, or message. I had driven without the cap for days likely before the car began to fail. I was alone and driving in the dark when it occurred which made me panic even more trying to get out of the road in rush hour traffic. After the tow truck began to drive away, I found this puddle of transmission fluid on the concrete. After the mechanic inspected and diagnosed all the damages/failures, he informed me that my entire transmission needs to be replaced along with other affected parts including a pump, new transmission cap, and transmission fluid. I found several other complaints reported to NHTSA about others having the same transmission failure and missing transmission cap/plug. This is my daily driver to/from work as well as transportation for me to take my parents to doctors appointments. Now, not only am I without a mode of transportation to work/medical appointments, but I am having to replace or rebuild the transmission. I was quoted $5366 for a new transmission…WITHOUT labor, replacement cap, new fluid. All for a $25 cap that popped off…NHTSA or Honda need to address this issue and find a solution. I could have been injured trying to navigate to a safe place while my car was stalling and sputtering.

THE TECHNICIANS AT A HONDA CERTIFIED DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A PRODUCT DEFECT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR HANDLE TOUCH SENSOR. ACCORDING TO AN ADVISOR AT HONDA OF ESCONDIDO (CALIFORNIA), THE DOOR HANDLE SENSOR FAILURE CONSTITUTED BOTH A HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE MALFUNCTION. IT ALSO CAUSED THE VSA (I.E., THE VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST) SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION AND BEHAVE ERRATICALLY AS WELL. IN OUR ASSESSMENT, THIS SITUATION CONSTITUTES A PUBLIC INTEREST CONSIDERATION AS THE SAFETY, WELL-BEING AND WELFARE OF EVERY OWNER IS AT RISK WHEN DRIVING THE SAME 2015 HONDA CIVIC MODEL. I REPORTED DURING THE LAST OIL CHANGE THAT THE CAR WAS STALLING SPECIFICALLY WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE BETWEEN 10 MPH & 30 MPH. THE CAR STALLS, AND HAS EVEN COMPLETELY STOPPED FOR A FULL 60 SECONDS WHILE TRYING TO CHANGE LANES IN TRAFFIC EVEN THOUGH THE GAS PEDAL WAS COMPLETED DEPRESSED. THIS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE TECH SAID IT WAS DUE TO THE ECON BUTTON AND THE ENGINE TRYING TO CONSERVE ENERGY. I WAS TOLD TO NOT USE THE ECON BUTTON (ALTHOUGH THIS IS SUPPOSE TO SAVE ME MONEY ON GAS AND FUEL EFFICIENCY AND PART OF THE ALLURE OF THE VEHICLE.) DESPITE THAT I HAVE HAD THE ECON BUTTON OFF AND THE CAR CONTINUES TO STALL AND NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. AGAIN THIS IS USUALLY BETWEEN 10 MPG TO 30 MPH. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM OR PART OF THE PISTOL PIN SNAP RING PROBLEM OR EVEN POSSIBLY A FUEL INJECTOR PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE GETTING WORSE AND OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. MY HUSBAND HAS THE SAME TYPE AND YEAR VEHICLE AND HIS DOES NOT BEHAVE THE SAME WAY. HIS ACCELERATION APPEARS TO BE FINE AND DOES NOT STALL AS MINE DOES. ALSO THE TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE HAS COME ON TWICE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. ONCE WAS 8-15-15 DURING A 4 HOUR ROAD TRIP WHICH OCCURRED AFTER WE ARRIVED. THE 2ND TIME WAS IMMEDIATELY AFTER I RETURNED HOME FROM MY LAST OIL CHANGE IN 4-2016. THIS IS THE (3RD) REPORTED PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. PROBLEM (1) WAS THE STAINED HEADLINER (6/2015)WHICH WAS REPLACED AND HAS NOT HAD ANY FURTHER ISSUES (2) WAS THE CENTER CONSOLE PIN COMING LOOSE AND POPPING UP (4-2016) WHICH HAS CURRENTLY REMAINED INTACT AND NOW THE ACCELERATION IS GETTING WORSE. I FIRST PURCHASED A 2015 HONDA CIVIC AND STARTED HEARING THIS "GRINDING/CREAKY" WHEN I PUSHED DOWN ON MY BRAKES, COMING FROM MY REAR. DON'T GET ME WRONG, I AM ABLE TO USE MY BRAKES AS I WANTED, BUT WHEN I PUSHED DOWN ON THE BRAKES TO PUT IN GEAR OR JUST PUSHED DOWN A LITTLE TOO HARD, I WOULD HEAR THIS NOISE. ALSO I NOTICED, WHENEVER I HAD A FULL TANK OF GAS (TOOK ME A WHILE TO FIGURE THIS OUT), I WOULD HEAR THIS "THUMPING" NOISE. IF I DO NOT HAVE GAS IN MY CAR, I DO NOT HEAR THE NOISE. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES. THE MECHANICS TOLD ME THESE WERE NOT NORMAL NOISES, THEY TRIED TO DIAGNOSE MY CAR, IF KEPT MY CAR THE LAST TIME FOR 5 DAYS BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET THE SOUND TO REALLY GO AWAY. I EVEN TIRED TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER HONDA DEALERSHIP TO GET MY CAR LOOKED AT, BUT I WAS TOLD, "TO TAKE MY CAR BACK WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM BECAUSE ITS CLEAR THERE IS A PROBLEM, AND THEY DIDN'T WANT THEIR TECHS NAME ON IT". I WAS SHOCKED. I WENT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER AND THEY EVEN CALLED THE AMERICAN HONDA TECHNICIANS WHO WERE OF NO HELP. I WAS FED UP AND FELT UNSAFE IN MY CAR, SINCE I WAS BEING TOLD THESE WERE NOT "NORMAL" NOISES, I ASKED TO TRADE IN MY CAR (SAME EXACT YEAR/MODEL). DESPITE TEST DRIVING THE SECOND CAR (ON AN EMPTY GAS TANK), I DIDN'T HEAR ANY NOISES INITIALLY. BUT NOW ITS BEEN A FEW DAYS AND I HEAR THE EXACT SAME NOISES IN THIS CAR, AS I DID THE FIRST ONE. ON THE MORNING OF 12/14/15, WHILE TAKING MY NEW CAR , THAT HAD 3,400 MILES ON IT, TO THE DEALERAHIP FOR IT'S FIRST NEW CAR SERVICE I HAD A BLOW OUT OF THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE DOING 70 MPH. WHEN I FINALLY ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY EXAMINED THE BLOW OUT AND COULD SEE NO DAMAGE TO THE TIRE THAT WOULD ACCOUNT FOR THE BLOW OUT. THE SAME WAS TRUE WHEN I GOT TO A MICHELIN DEALER WHO ALSO EXAMINED THE TIRE, HE COULD FIND NO DAMAGE THAT WOULD SUPPORT ANYTHING OTHER THAN A DEFECTIVE TIRE. WHEN THE TIRE BLEW IT BROKE THE REAR WHEEL SUSPENSION COVER. MICHELIN REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE COST OF THE NEW TIRE SINCE THE BLOW OUT CAUSED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE REAR SUSPENSION. MICHELIN WANT ME TO GO THROUGH THEIR "CLAIM PROCESS" WHICH INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO MY RETURNING THE TIRE. AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS, EXPLAINING THAT BEING A SENIOR CITIZEN , CARRYING A TIRE TO BE MAILED IS NOT AN OPTION NOR WAS THE COLLECTION OF THE RUBBER THAT WAS LEFT ON THE TURNPIKE AN OPTION FOR ME TO COLLECT AND SEND, IN THE AT]LTERNATIVE I'VE ASKED MICHELIN TO SEND ONE OF THEIR REPRESENTATIVES TO MY HOME TO EXAMINE THE REMAINS OF THE TIRE ONOLY TO0 BE TOLD THAT IS NOT THEIR POLICY I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS NEW CAR FOR FEAR OF THE OTHER 3 TIRES BLOWING OUT. I WANT MICHELIN TO REPLACE THE 3 REMAINING TIRES THAT ARE CURRENTLY ON THE CAR, TO PAY THE COST OF THE REAR WHEEL SUSPENSION WHICH IS $199.94, AND REIMBURSE ME FOR THE $201.43 I PAY TO REPLACE THE TIRE THAT BLEW OUT.
