There is a jerky/sticky issue with the steering while driving. The steering wheel seems to get stuck and I end up almost over correcting to get it to unstick. I’ve read multiple complaints of this issue and my car’s year is 2016 purchased in October 2025.

Steering is very stiff and fights you while trying to make minor corrections at highway speeds (45mph+). Not safe to drive the vehicle on road trips or for extended periods of time on the highway. As I understand it, the 11th generation civics have a recall on the same component. It seems the recall needs to be extended to the 10th generation civics as well.

2016 Honda Civic LX. Electronic power steering has sticky feeling when traveling at highway speeds, does not return to center. This leads to a danger situation as car becomes difficult to control when traveling at highway speeds. Honda is away of this issue on newer generation of Honda's. Upon inspection, the mechanism that is having an issue is almost identical in Honda's 10th generation of vehicle.

UNKNOWN - The steering wheel sticks in the center position when driving on the freeway or highway. When I go to adjust the wheel to correct my direction the wheel sticks and I have to turn harder and it results in an overcorrection and jerks the car. This seems to be a common problem and from what I have read online and it is either the EPS system or the clock spring in the steering wheel. People have said it can be very costly to repair. It has been happening continuously for a couple of years now but sometimes there are gaps when it is bad and when it doesn't happen a lot. It is definitely a safety concern.

The entire steering rack has an issue especially when driving on the highway. To make slight adjustments and wide turns it feels like you have to turn out of a notch and can’t make any smooth minor adjustments. I took it to the dealership near me and they test drove it and confirmed there was a “notch” in the steering rack and the entire steering rack had to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the white paint was peeling off the vehicle. Large white pieces from the rear hood started to peel off first. Then, the white paint from the rear and later both rear sides, the paint was peeling off, stemming from manufacturing defects in the application of its three-stage finish, leading to peeling and flaking that can impact resale value and cause rust. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I am reporting confirmed odometer fraud involving a 2016 Honda Civic. CarMax documented the vehicle as “ROLLBACK / NOT ACTUAL MILES / TRUE MILEAGE UNKNOWN.” Experian verified a mileage discrepancy. A prior Michigan title contains inconsistent mileage. Selling dealer: Car Tec Enterprise Leasing & Sales LLC, Deer Park, NY. I am requesting investigation under the Federal Odometer Act.

Component that failed: The air conditioning system evaporator core failed, causing refrigerant leakage. The vehicle was inspected and diagnosed by a Honda dealership, which confirmed the failure and provided a written quote for replacement. The component is still installed and available for inspection. Safety risk: When the evaporator leaks, the A/C system loses refrigerant and stops cooling. This prevents the defrost/defog system from working properly, which can lead to poor visibility through the windshield in humid or rainy weather. In hot conditions, lack of cooling can also cause driver fatigue and heat stress, creating a safety risk for occupants. Confirmation of problem: Yes, the problem was confirmed by a Honda dealership after the condenser was already replaced under Honda’s extended warranty. Inspection by manufacturer/others: Yes, the vehicle was inspected by a Honda dealership. Honda corporate was contacted but declined to cover the evaporator, even though the condenser was covered under warranty due to a known defect in the A/C system. Warning lamps or symptoms: There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages. The only symptom was a loss of A/C cooling. After recharging the system, the A/C worked temporarily but will lose effectiveness again as refrigerant continues to leak. Summary: This is a premature failure of a critical climate control component that is widespread among 2016–2018 Honda Civics. Honda already extended warranty coverage for defective condensers in these models, but evaporator failures are also common and part of the same defective A/C system. 2016 Honda civic has 28 000 miles and the air conditioning went out. took it to Honda dealership, compressor, and evaporator and gasket is not working. everything but the evaporator is covered. Been driving in hot weather and unable to maintain comfortable temperature. Unsafe during hot weather to be driving in a car that has no air conditioning, may lead to heat related illness such as heat stoke in long drives. this is a well documented issue with these Hondas. Has been inspected by Honda dealership. unknown.

Component: Car AC System The Car AC system of the 10th generation Honda Civics is extremely faulty. My car is a 2016 Honda Civic with 75,000 miles and I have already had 3 "Extended Warranty" repairs on it. One at the condenser system and 2 at the compressor. This were covered under the "Extended Warranty". Now the evaporator is giving out and it is not cover under "Extended Warranty" and consumers are expected to pay for a faulty designed AC repair that just keeps breaking. In very hot areas in the country this is a major issue as the AC constantly blowing hot air can be nauseating and distracting especially with outside temperatures are above the 100 degrees. With the Extended Warranty only lasting 10 years a lot of cars are now going to be considered out of warranty and forced the consumer to pay for the faulty design. I would understand if the warranty repairs would fix the issue and they would never come back. But it seems that they are placing a mere bandaid and kicking the problem down the line until everyone is out of warranty. I've had 3 service to the AC and now I am due for a 4th. The car is not that old to be requiring all these services, and the bandaids place on the service are only lasting 1 to 2 years.

- The engine failed. The engine block warped and both had to be replaced. I have pictures from the dealer. The cost was $8,194.56 at the dealer for a replacement engine with 89K miles on it. - My son's safety was put at risk because he is in a rural area. Every warning lamp on the dashboard turned on after Indy Honda replaced the coolant (Maintenance minder A125). Then the lights would turn off. Then Andy Mohr Honda inspected it (for the first time) and their diagnosis was a pvc pipe crack. We paid for that repair. The second time was the head gasket and the engine was destroyed. - The problem was confirmed by Andy Mohr Honda and Indy Honda in the state of Indiana. Andy Mohr confirmed the turbo engine for the Honda Civic has a known issue and than we should have purchased the 2.0 liter instead of the 1.5 liter because of the load the turbo puts on the engine. American Honda Motor Co., Inc disagrees and stated there was no issue. - The vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer via pictures taken at Andy Mohr Honda. - Prior to the coolant service in June 2025 there were no warning lamps. There were no symptoms. The Civic has only been maintained by Honda Dealers. The first time (approximate date) we noticed the issue: [XXX]. My son videoed it. Please note the text from Andy Mohr Honda stating the engine was overheated. The coolant was replaced by Indy Honda a week prior to the overheating. It should not have occurred. Went to my local dealer on January 11 to have my car checked due to a possible knock in my engine or transmission. They checked it but was not able to find a code or the actual cause after changing the oil of transmission and running it. It still continues to have issues They told me “might need to leave your car overnight because their master technician is not here until Monday “ To me I didn’t like much that answer because I spend too much for a no fix or cause. Also they could not provide me a loaner as well which was not a good idea No codes in the system or lights in the dashboard , it started a day before I took it to the shop

Driving on highway to work when check engine light came on in addition to "Emissions System Problem", "Hill Start Assist", "Power Steering Issue", etc. When scanned for codes it showed misfire codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304. When spark plugs and coils were changed one set showed signs of rust. The misfires persisted after changing out these parts. When taken to the dealership they stated that the powertrain warranty had been extended to 6yrs from the original date of purchase because of an oil dilution issue. My car was outside of this warranty and the dealer did not offer to help with repairs. I called Honda of America and explained the situation - they also stated that it was outside of warranty. My mechanic has recommended an engine replacement and estimates repair costs over $4000+ for a used engine. Radiator fluid had been topped off 3-4 times this year but we did not realize it was leaking into the engine. A full recall should be issued for this, it is a known issue and Honda is aware of it. The warranty extension is not enough if the issue is going to keep occurring.

Honda knew of an issue with their Electronic Parking Brake system which required a software update per service bulletin 17-007 since January 17, 2017. Honda claims that the issue was not associated with my 2016 Civic Coupe EXL VIN however on Oct 29, 2023 my Civic threw this error which then cost me $112 for the service center to diagnose and an additional $150 for the software update to be installed. Total cost of $262 for an item that Honda knew was an issue and never addressed on my vehicle. This issue creates a dangerous and possibly life threatening situation which Honda is fully aware and should be held liable. American Honda states that my vehicle was not effected however I disagree as the photos and failure occurred. I was expecting more fro Honda.

Emergency brake failed and gives following code in the dash: Red blinking light- BRAKE Yellow light: Brake System There was a recall back in 2016 because of this same problem. More than 300,000 cars affected.

ABS malfunction. The malfunction problem showed up on the dash and the car would not drive properly causing several messages to come on. Once I stopped and turned off the car I started if back up and went a few yard and the car started to malfunction and the message appeared again. I immediately called a foreign car specialist and was told there is a recall. I looked up the recall and it stated the same exact issue for Honda Civics years 2016-2022. I have had the car towed to two auto shops and both stated that there is a recall for the problem I am having and that they are seeing more of this issue on the Civics. I am a dialysis patient and need reliable transportation. I have about 8 months left to pay the car note in full and would really appreciate it if this could be addressed. I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA ABOUT THE ( EPB) PROBLEM. THEY REFUSES TO AKNOWEDGE THE ISSUE BECAUSE MY VIN NUMBER DID NOT SHOW UP. THE PROBLEM IS THERE AND I HAD IT COMFRIM BY A MECHANIC. THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE HAND TILL ONE DAY WHEN DAY WHEN ENGAGING THE PARKING BRAKE THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT ENGAGED. THE ONLY WAY WAS TO CUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT AGAIN. I AM UNABLE TO PARK ON A HILL BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND AFRAID OF THE SYSTEM FAILING ALL TOGETHER.

The contact stated that while attempting to trade the vehicle at the dealer, the Carfax Report indicated a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. The contact stated that at the time of purchase, the odometer reading was 109,000; however, the Carfax Report indicated that the mileage was 172,000 in 2023.

My manual key…it wasn’t program. I just found out when my battery died and we won’t able to open the door manually. And when I told the dealer where I bought it, they were charging me to program it. And it cost a lot, so, I didn’t had it done. Then, just two days ago, my car won’t start again. I just got a new battery from AAA. So, I have to call them again and re check it. The battery was fine. So, the AAA employee asked me to call you or email you. Coz prolly I have a recall problem with my car. Honda Civic 2016 Sedan. I always have this problem with the battery and the manual key.

2016 Honda Civic sport- push start ignition can turn engine power off when parking without the operator knowing, or receiving sufficient warning that the automatic transmition is still in drive or neutral. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection. Yesterday, my husband parked our 2016 Civic after a trip to the store. He was unaware that the had not placed the vehicle in park, as he was able to turn off engine and exit the car without sufficient safety warning. He took an item from the trunk, closed it, walked down the street and into the house. A few minutes later our neighbor got an alert on her security camera. Our unoccupied car is seen in the video rolling forward, down the hill, before crashing into shrubs and trees at bottom. When we got up to the car, my husband unlocked it and climbed in through passenger seat, to find it was still in drive, but was not running.This could have seriously injured or killed a child or anyone else if they had been standing in its path.Thankfully, it didn't roll into a child or one of our neighbors. No one was injured, though they certainly could have been. The car does have damage, but that can be fixed. We have not taken it to the dealer yet, but I am contacting them now. We have not contacted our insurance company yet. But we will be submitting the photos and videos with the claim. My husband said there was not a warning light on the dash and he did not observe any indication that the car was still in gear or he would not have gotten out of the car. The car gives a warning light if you leave your lights on, when you are approaching a service interval, low fuel or change in tire pressure, low battery life, and a dozen other things. He has had the car for more than five years so he is very familiar with it. It is serviced on time, and our mechanic does annual inspections every year. We will test it again tonight to see if we can duplicate it, but with a driver inside to apply the break if it rolls.

My A/C system experienced a total failure at around 79,000 miles. I took the vehicle to a service center, and they confirmed the failure is the A/C Evaporator. This component is now broken and available for inspection upon request. This evaporator failure is an extremely common, widely reported issue across this generation of vehicles and is almost certainly due to a manufacturing defect. The failure creates two major safety risks: First, the loss of defrost capability causes the windshield to fog up immediately in rain or humidity, which completely blocks the driver's view. Second, the extreme interior heat caused by the lack of A/C creates severe driver fatigue and distraction, which impairs safe operation of the vehicle. This issue has been confirmed by the dealership, and there were no warning lights.

The day i bought this car the ac went out. I had to go back to dealer the next morning. I later on learned They just fiddled with it to make it work temporarily. By the next summer ac went out again, this time defrosters didn't work, heater didn't work, ac obviously didn't work. And ive Been dealing with it like this for over 2 years. Honda is not helping at all.

THE AC SYSTEM ON THESE MODELS HAVE A FACTORY DEFECT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE SURFACE STREETS THE WINDSHIELD BECAME FOGGY, I COULD NOT SEE TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME AND SUDDENLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CLEANED THE WINDSHIELD WITH THE PIECE OF TOWEL. BECAUSE THE CAR'S AC WAS NOT WORKING IT COULD NOT DEFOGG THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA, BUT HONDA DOESN'T REPAIR IT. These vehicles have major paint issues. I experienced the paint flaking off the side back panel near the window and had to go through a somewhat annoying process to have the dealer look into it. After I had this issue I looked online to see if anyone has this same problem and it came to my attention that it is a nationwide issue that is not being addressed. Here is a link of other people who have experienced this issue, [XXX] . The paint is too thin and loses it's clear coat easily then the color breaks and flakes off. I honestly believe this is a manufacture defect as so many cars are affected with the exact same issue. Now my car paint is peeling near the top of the window and I would like an investigation done. I have taken very good car of the vehicle, hand washes and it only has 15k miles. I paid over 28k for this car and didn't expect the paint to be so thin or poor. When jacking car to change tire, the lift point crumbled due to corrosion causing the car to fall back to the ground. There was no obvious evidence of extreme corrosion; it rusted from the inside. It is unknown how much more structural rust is inside the unibody but the car may no longer be safe for the road.

Driving the car home at 6pm on a highway, and heard a loud pop sound, but there were no rocks or objects hitting the vehicle. It turn out that the sunroof glass had exploded from the center for no reason. I am only glad the sunroof was not in use/open at the time, otherwise, the shattered glass will definitely lead to some serious consequences.

The front windshield glue holding it on the car has failed. The windshield can be pushed out completely with only a pinky finger. This should not happen and is very dangerous. This windshield could of came off easily from sudden stopping or collisions and caused serious bodily injury to the driver. Safelite auto glass came out to inspect and replace the window due to this defect. They stated it is a factory installed front windshield and they had never seen anything like it. The windshield started coming off less than a week ago. There were no warnings. We knew there was a problem when we heard wind sound coming in while driving. I have tried to upload a PDF documentation, but the website will not let me upload it.

The CVT transmission causes the car to stall when gaining acceleration past 20 mph-40 mph from a complete stop and when slowing down and then trying to gain rpm with flow of traffic whether on streets or highways. This can cause a safety concern for the driver if the car stalls out in the middle of oncoming traffic in the streets or highways that could potentially lead to death of owner and others. The car was taken to the dealership and no warning lamps were on. The tech had mentioned that they see this problem a lot with this model containing the CVT transmissions.

My Honda Civic with manual transmission, suddenly would not go into gear and lost power (engine still running). Fortunately, I was able to coast to the opposite side of the road across oncoming traffic, since there was no right shoulder. After a tow home, I discovered that the manual clutch slave cylinder was detached from the engine block (photo attached) and of the 2 connecting bolts (photo attached), one was sheared and the other was intact but unconnected. The last service to the vehicle was with Manly Honda service in Santa Rosa, CA replacing the AC condenser and compressor. I called them to see if they had not secured the 2 bolts after completing the AC service. The service manager said that they would not have removed this clutch slave cylinder in the AC service. I advised the service manager that if the clutch cylinder had not been removed by them, then it could be a safety hazard issue that should be reported to Honda Motors. After some online research, I have discovered that this problem has been experiened by other Honda Civic owners.

My transmission light has been on for over a year. After visiting to private mechanics- diagnostic testing from both confirm an EVAP leak. They did smoke tests and nothing came back. After visiting credit karma. Under property, as I own my vehicle it states that there is a “Fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump recall” documented on March 29, 2024. After contacting Honda directly they have stated that my VIN is not under the recall. After fueling up at the gas station. My vehicle inside and outside smells of gasoline for over 2-3 days. Which is not the norm. I’m pregnant and this is extremely dangerous. I am not going to bring my vehicle into a dealership to be told what I already know and be charged.

There is an active recall on the fuel pump for Honda Civics. My car fits within the range of time of manufacture, but my VIN does not appear with any recalls. The vehicle shakes when starting and will stall most of the time. I can turn it off and turn it back on and the car will start okay, but if I accelerate too quickly or drive too fast or for too long the engine will stall. I have been driving on the highway before and the engine stalls and I have to pull over. The car can be turned off and started again okay, but it’s a safety concern when it happens randomly on the highway with plenty of other cars around.

The vehicle had a light for emissions. Brought to Honda dealer. Charged me for two diagnosis fees. The tank / neck and fuel pump all rusted out at connection. No rust under or on the vehicle. Obviously the manufacturer has poor quality tank. This does not happen on 8 yr old vehicle and they want $4500 to fix.

THE HOUSING THAT SURROUNDS THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT IS NOT FULLY AFFIXED TO THE REAR INTERIOR WINDOW. THE HOUSING JUST BOUCES UP AND DOWN AND RED LIGHT FLOODS THE BACK WINDOW WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. THIS SITUATION MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT OF THE BACK WINDOW AT NIGHT.

I’ve had this car for about 1 year now. On the 4th month of having the vehicle I got the battery replaced by the dealer for free. Now here we are a year later and my car is having the same issue. When I go to crank it, it stutters as if it doesn’t want to turn on than turns on. I went to autozone and they said battery needs to be changed again. Which makes no sense because never in my life have I had to change a battery 2x in year & it’s practically still a new vehicle. I started to investigate and when I go in my trunk That I barely use. I have a little bucket with things I keep in it. The bucket was filled with water as if it was leaking from the tail light area. So my trunk is soaked. I’ve noticed before a little moisture back there but I thought nothing of it. I wonder if others are having the same issue or they may not have noticed yet. The vehicle getting wet in the inside can become a very big electrical & rust issue. Which is very unsafe, can lead to things like a fire or even mildew which can get you sick breathing in it. I feel this matter should be addressed and investigated immediately! For not only the safety of my self but the other civic drivers !

WHEN PARKED, THE ALARM BLARING NON STOP FOR HOURS AND THE BATTERY DYING COMPLETELY WITHOUT WARNING OR DRAINAGE ON MY PART OF ANY KIND. ALL SYSTEMS ON THE CAR SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AFTER LOSS OF POWER INCLUDING THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND YOU CAN DIVE IT THAT WAY. IT BRAKES HARD ON ITS OWN ON THE FREEWAY. THERE IS A USB PORT IN THE CENTER CONSOLE RIGHT NEXT TO CUP HOLDER THAT CAN GET WET IF YOU HAVE A DRINK IN THERE. I'VE HAD MY CAR FOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS IT HAS FAILED TO START. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND SAW THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I FOUND A YOUTUBE VIDEO THAT GAVE INSTRUCTIONS ON A POSSIBLE REMEDY -- WHICH INCLUDED GOING UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR AND FINAGLING WITH THE BATTERY, ETC. MY HUSBAND TRIED THIS REMEDY AND ONCE MY CAR STARTED, I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT MY BATTERY WAS DEAD; THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY. MONTHS LATER, WITH MY NEW BATTERY, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. MY HUSBAND TRIED THE REMEDY AGAIN BUT WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I TOLD HIM THAT THEY SHOULD LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS NOT JUST THE BATTERY. TO ME, IT WAS SOME KIND OF ELECTRICAL GLITCH. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OF THE 'NO-START', THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I TOLD THEM THAT A GOOGLE SEARCH WOULD SHOW THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING WITH MANY HONDA CIVICS AND THAT THIS MUST BE A KNOWN ISSUE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE A HONDA REPRESENTATIVE CONTACT ME AND THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I TOLD MYSELF THAT IF THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, I WOULD DO NOTHING MYSELF. I WOULD GET MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WELL, OF COURSE, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AT 9 MONTHS PREGNANT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT AGAIN HAS NOT STARTED. THE CAR REMAINS IN ACCESSORY MODE AND THE BRAKES AND SHIFT GEAR IS LOCKED. I TRULY THINK I HAVE A LEMON VEHICLE BECAUSE THIS COMPANY IS REFUSING TO LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS ISSUE. I have a 2016 Civic LX, and the steering is sticking when on center when the vehicle has been driving for a while/is warmed up. I have read multiple instances and reports of this issue and the EPS/rack being the culprit even when this car was released 10 years ago. There was never a bulletin or a recall for this model year but it is the same issue for the 2022-2025 model years, and it is frustrating that it is still occurring. It requires more pressure than needed to move the wheel and then it jerks as it comes loose causing need to over correction. This is very unsettling when traveling at highway speeds. I purchased the vehicle in late September of 2024, and I believe the vehicle was doing it then but i did not recognize the issue and it wasn't consistent, especially as temps were cold. The issue has gotten worse, especially as the warm weather is coming around.

Car suffers from sticky steering like the other newer civics and it is a very scary issue. My car does not drive straight and as it is getting hotter in Louisiana my car is acting up more. I am constantly swerving to keep it straight. Almost hit car in another lane and I have to fight against the wheel to make it stay straight. There are no warning lights. I have regular maintenance done. It also tried to turn another way when I go from a slow to fast speed, making merging or turning into an interstate feel dangerous. Honda dealership checked it and found “no issues” they just did an alignment and said that was it. Well the sticky steering still exists and is getting worse. Please make a recall I do not feel safe.

The steering sticks around highway speeds which causes me to over correct. The vehicle feels unsafe to drive and I am being told it will cost close to $4,000.00 to replace the electronic steering rack.

My car has had a sticky steering wheel problem for over a year now. I’m at 75k miles, the problem started at least around 60k miles. The wheel feels heavy and I have to over correct due to that stickiness. I can’t drive straight when I am on the highway. I continuously have to correct to keep the wheel straight. It does not feel safe. Last year my battery died and changing the battery helped the sticky steering a little but only for a short time. I think the problem has something to do with the power steering.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the electronic braking system, steering, alternator, check engine, and TPMS warning lights illuminated. After shifting into drive(D), the vehicle lost power steering functionality and became difficult to turn. The braking system warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic and the contact was informed electronic power steering rack and pinion had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure was 46,000.

Honda did a software update on my vehicle tied to the recall below. The dealership stated to me that they need to replace the VSA modulator and they are claiming this is not covered since they did the software update a few years ago. I believe they are directly corollated as I don't drive the car much only have 27K miles on the car. They are asking me to the pay for replacing the modulator VSA and are stating that this is not covered under the recall. It's hard for me to beleive how they are unrelated if the software is causing the unit to malfunction and we know the unit needs replacement there is a direct connection. This is costing me $2500. I PURCHASE THIS CAR IN JUNE OF 2019; I HAD THE CAR FOR APPROX 5 MONTHS. I TOLD THE HONDA DEALER MECHANIC THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE BRAKES WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I BROUGHT IT BACK IN SEPTEMBER. THEY CLAIM THEY CHECKED THE BRAKES AND EVERYTHING WAS FIND. I HAD A MAINTENANCE CHECK AND AN OIL CHECK. A MONTH IN HALF LATER I EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT IN SEPTEMBER. ON 11/14/19 I DROVE MY CAR TO A LOCATION NO PROBLEMS. I PARKED THE CAR . WHEN I WENT BACK TO TURN ON THE CAR THAT'S WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON SAYING ELECTRICAL BRAKE PROBLEM. I READ THEY HAD A RECALL ON THE ELECTRICAL BRAKE SYSTEM. Upon inspection, the contact became aware of a large hole in the sunroof glass. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 166,655.

A/C system.- compressor &/or shaft seal leak- As we were driving our BRAND NEW Honda civic to Las Vegas for our daughter’s wedding on July 12, 2019 in the heat of 115 degrees, the AC stopped working & started blowing hot air, we were forced to continue our 5 hour journey in this unsafe driving condition since it was our daughter’s wedding. This was at 36,100 miles, just 100 miles out of warranty. The recall had not happened yet & we were unaware other people were experiencing the same issues with this same AC system Honda used. I Took it to my local Honda dealer upon return of the torturous unsafe trip and they wanted $3000 to fix the problem they took no blame for it. I immediately filed a complaint with safecar.gov #11322455. 4 years later, PARTS of the Ac system were recalled & I was sent a letter from American Honda stating show us the invoices you had to pay before the recall happened. I did exactly what they said and they denied all of my expenses. I am in shock. This was not my problem their defected AC system leaked Freon. That was their system that they put into that brand new car that was worthless. They cut corners used a cheaper outside contractor it’s obvious. I have $552.93, in repairs that American Honda has refused to reimburse me for and I went through the whole process they requested it’s not right. I should be paid for what I had to pay on that AC system before the recall. It was not my fault it was their fault.

My 2016 Honda Civic started blowing warm air and within 24 hours I took it to my local Honda Dealership and had it inspected. I was told that there were two TRBs which may be related to the A/C system. After dealer inspection I was told that the mechanics noted leaks in both the Condenser and the Compressor shaft seal. The result of the leaks was that the these components would need to be replaced along with the A/C compressor. Unfortunately I was told that the extended warranties on both of these components (10 yr unlimited mileage) would not cover the compressor replacement despite the dealership telling me that the leaks likely caused the A/C Compressor failure. Honda is acutely aware that these types of leaks will cause in AC component failures (Condenser, Compressor and evaporator) because the A/C systems are closed systems and complaints about the A/C system leaks, and their effects, are pervasive on online media forums and the auto community at large. In my case the leaks due to the failure of the condenser and compressor shaft seal resulted in the failure of A/C Compressor. I have had the A/C system inspected by other Honda Certified mechanic shops and all have expressed the causality between the failed components and the compressor catastrophic failure. The fact that Honda has issued "unlimited mileage" extended warranties on these 10th Gen Civic compressor shaft seals and condensers expresses Honda's awareness that these components should not fail in the way they are doing so. Like any mechanical system perfection should not be the goal but when a manufacture is aware of a failure in its product it has the responsibility to make whole those harmed by its failures. Unfortunately customers, like me, who purchased Hondas because the brand's reliability and strong customer service appeal will have to look elsewhere unless Honda chooses to correct this clear and present issue across multiple vehicles in its lineup.

The evaporator core is leaking, which is causing reduced visibablility out of the windows due to condensation on the windows, mold-like smells from moisture from the interior cabin (it is available upon request). I took it into the dealer - they examined the issue (the shaft seal had just been replaced in April of this year) and let me know that this time the evaporator core was leaking. For context and why I bring it to the attention of the NHTSA is in early to mid-August of this year my AC not only took an extended time to get cool, it only got cooler, and not cold. Unfortunately, I am now well acclimated to the signs of a faltering air conditioning system after dealing with three like episodes on the same vehicle, occurring within 2 to 3 years of each other (the car isn’t even nine years old). In fact, this vehicle’s air conditioning has been in a rhythmic pattern of failing ever since I purchased the vehicle. Over 8 years there have only been a few summers which haven’t been negatively impacted by this inconvenience. Honda is aware of the issue, because they have offered "good-will" subsidies which sometimes cover partial replacements of these components. But, they have yet to take responsibility for anything outside of the condenser. Hence, the consumer is on the hook to pay for a vital piece of the car (not just the convenience) that removes moisture out of the car.

OVER 5 WEEKS LATER, CONDENSER WAS REPLACED IN AUGUST 2020, BUT DEALER REPORTED COMPRESSOR WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, FOR ABOUT $1,200. HONDA REFUSES TO COVER MORE THAN 30% OF THAT COST, ACCORDING TO BOTH A REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE AND A HONDA OF AMERICA REPRESENTATIVE. THE COMPRESSOR IS ON BACK-ORDER, INDICATING THAT A HIGH NUMBER OF COMPRESSORS ARE FAILING. ALL THE ABOVE WORK AND DIAGNOSIS WERE PERFORMED BY HONDA DEALER THE AUTOMASTER, SHELBURNE, VT. THE CAR HAS UNDER 33,000 MILES AND IS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THERE APPEARS TO BE A CLASS ACTION FOR THIS ISSUE, INITIATED IN CALIFORNIA, CASE 2:19-CV-10537, FILED DEC. 2019, US DISTRICT COURT FOR CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA. In late winter of 2022, the car’s A/C system failed for the fourth time. The car A/C system stopped functioning; it was no longer blowing cool air into the car. The diagnosis was that the A/C compressor was leaking. The A/C compressor was replaced and we were charged $2027. We paid the bill and asked Honda to reimburse us for the amount because after 4 failures in 3 years it was obvious that the Civic A/C system design was flawed. Honda refused to pay for the compressor replacement.

Alarm sounded, went outside with fob to shut off . Still alarm on . Tried to get in car with fob . Had to use key in door to get in . Stepped on brake and pushed start/stop button . Alarm now silent. Push start/stop button to shut off engine and message on dash read Keyless Start System Error. Engine still running. Pushed button again and AC shuts off , engine still running and dash still reading error. Put in driver, then reverse to park and pushed button again and engine shut off finally. Disconnect negative from battery and let sit overnight. Tried to start, but just kept cranking. Disconnect battery again, tried starting again and it started. This time it took me 10 minutes before I could shut off engine. Disconnect battery again and haven’t tried again. I’ve read about other people having the same issues. Most say start/stop switch. Mine is on order, will install asap and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

All engine lights flashed while driving, check engine light remained on after all others went off, emission system warning keeps prompting attention, and car just slowed to only 8 mph as I was driving down the road. Available for inspection any day. I had my 7 month old child in the backseat and almost got slammed in the back while going down the road as my car slowed abruptly as I was driving. Nothing was wrong prior, and I took it to a service department when I went for my oil change, but it was going to be very costly to just hook up for diagnostic testing. Car ran at normal speed after this incident, but engine sounds louder and rougher and check engine light and warnings are still present.

AC SYSTEM NEEDS A NEW CONDENSOR AND COMPRESSOR DUE TO LEAKING....CAR IS NOT EVEN 4 YEARS OLD...THIS ISSUE IS ONGOING AND HONDA HAS DONE NOTHING....NOT LIVING UP TO REPUTATION...THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST HONDA. I HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY IN THIS CAR LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD AND NOTHING WAS DRAINING IT....THIS HAS BEEN A PAIN IN THE BUTT EXPERIENCE....I'M GOING BACK TO TOYOYA. HONDA REFUSES TO DEAL WITH THIS AC ISSUE THAT MANY OF US ARE HAVING WHEN THEY ARE FULLY AWARE OF IT.

THIS VEHICLE HAS REPEATEDLY BEEN DYING AND HAVING ALL OF THE ERROR CODES POP UP WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING WRONG BY TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS. HOWEVER EVEN WHEN WE ARE DRIVING THE CAR THE CAR STARTS FREAKING OUT AND LOSING POWER. WE HAVE VERIFIED THAT NOTHING IS DRAINING THE BATTERY AND HAVE HAD THE BATTERY TESTED TWICE. THE BATTERY MUST NOT BE THE PROBLEM BUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS MESSING UP SO MUCH THAT WE ARE SCARED TO DRIVE IT. I'M HOPING BY VISITING THE DEALERSHIPS SO MANY TIMES THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO FILE A LEMON LAW VEHICLE AND RETURN THE VEHICLE THAT WAS ONLY PURCHASED A FEW MONTHS AGO.

TRIED TO START CAR (IN WALMART PARKING LOT) AFTER SHOPPING. WOULDN'T START. INSTEAD, ALL SYSTEMS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON: POWER STEERING, PARKING BRAKE, BRAKE FAILURE, TPMS, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, HILL ASSIST SYSTEM, ABS SYSTEM, ETC. ALL THESE WARNINGS KEPT CYCLING THROUGH ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN I TRIED TO START CAR. TOW COMPANY CAME AND JUMP STARTED BATTERY JUST TO SEE IF THAT WOULD START CAR. IT DID! Tire size: 215 / 50 R 17 While driving on a highway, a tire pressure warning appeared. Shortly after, theTPMS malfunction light came on and immediately the driver side rear tire blew out. My car spun 360 degrees and I managed to bring it to a stop. Luckily the cars behind me slowed down while I maneuvered to the curb. I was on a drawbridge and I could have driven off of it into the water below. The tread of the tire completely separated from the side walls of the tire. All that was left on the rim were the two side walls. I recovered the tread and I have the wheel with the side walls still on it. I showed it to the dealer and the service technicians had no idea about what happened. As of now the manufacturer has not been made aware. This 2016 Honda Civic was purchased from a dealer and there are still 3 of the same tire on the car. I drove the remaining distance to my destination on the rim where I put on the spare. I couldn’t change the tire where the blowout happened because I was on a bridge with very little shoulder.

THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT THAT'S ON THE INSIDE OF THE REAR WINDOW (I HAVE THE COUPE) HAS A COVER WHICH KEEPS THE LIGHT DIRECTED OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AND ATTACHES TO THE WINDOW. THE GLUE HOLDING IT TO THE WINDOW ISN'T STRONG ENOUGH, SO THE COVER HANGS DOWN, BLOCKING SOME OF THE REAR WINDOW, REDUCING VISIBILITY. ALSO, AT NIGHT THE LIGHT ITSELF WASHES OUT THE REAR WINDOW, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT THE BACK AT ALL. THIS PROBLEM IS AFFECTING 100% OF THE 2016 COUPES THAT HAVE EVER BEEN OUT ON A WARM DAY (HEAT MELTS THE GLUE), AND HONDA ISN'T FIXING IT. THEY'VE BEEN STRINGING US ALONG FOR 5 MONTHS NOW, PROMISING A FIX IN "A MONTH" OR "A COUPLE WEEKS", WITH NO RESOLUTION. LAST I HEARD, THEY SAID ON NOVEMBER 7TH THAT IT WOULD BE RELEASED IN 8-12 WEEKS. IT FEELS LIKE THEIR PLAN IS TO JUST KEEP THIS UP UNTIL PEOPLE SUPER GLUE THE CASING TO THE WINDOW THEMSELVES OR DECIDE BADGERING HONDA ABOUT IT ISN'T WORTH IT ANYMORE. THE COVER FOR THE REVERSE LIGHT, REAR WINDOW, OF THE 2016 CIVIC HAS DROPPED AND AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TRYING TO GET AMERICAN HONDA TO CORRECT, STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. THE COVER CAN'T BE REMOVED AS THE REVERSE LIGHT IS TOO BRIGHT AND MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE OUT THE REAR WINDOW AT NIGHT. DURING THE DAY, THE COVER OBSCURES OBJECTS/CARS IN THE REAR VIEW WINDOW.

THE HIGH-MOUNTED BRAKE LIGHT COVER, MOUNTED ON THE REAR WINDOW, HAS DETACHED ITSELF FROM THE WINDOW. CALLED ANOTHER DEALER HE SAID NOT TO DO THAT, WOULD VOID WARRANTY. CAR NOW WITH SON AT COLLEGE IN FLORIDA. CALLED DEALER THERE, KNEW NOTHING. THIS IS A HAZARD DRIVING AND I WANT IT DOCUMENTED, AS PRETTY MUCH ALL OTHER 2016 HONDA COUPE OWNERS DO, THAT IF THIS CAUSES AN ACCIDENT, THERE HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS AT HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENTS ABOUT. THERE IS A FORUM THAT HAS PAGES OF THE SAME COMPLAINT AND ATTEMPTED FIXES, BUT NONE WORK. IT EVEN STATES THAT SINCE JULY 2016 HONDA IS WORKING ON A FIX. THIS IS A DANGER AND NEEDS FIXED ASAP.

THIRD BRAKE LIGHT HOUSING LOOSE SEVERELY AFFECTS VISIBILITY THROUGH REAR WINDSHIELD. BRAKING AT NIGHT ILLUMINATES THE ENTIRE REAR WINDSHIELD AND SEVERELY OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW. DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE THAT REQUIRES A RECALL.

This report is on the paint defect issue on the 10th generation Honda Civic that can potentially impact the vehicle's structural integrity from the windshield damage. The white paint on my vehicle started peeling around the perimeter of the rear window with the rain groove. I am uncertain of the exact time it started, but the paint defect became noticeable to the naked eye just past the 5 years of ownership. The size of the paint chip has now extended to the rear body of the vehicle. A section of bare steel body around the rear window is exposed to the elements. Based on the inspection and evaluation by the authorized Honda paint and body shop that was recommended by the dealership, I have been informed that the cause is commonly due to improper paint priming during the manufacturing process. According to the paint and body shop owner, such paint peeling is a widely known issue with certain color paint for many auto manufacturers that use the same paint primer. I was warned that paint peeling will likely worsen with the water being captured underneath the paint. I am reporting this incident as a safety concern because the rust on the bare metal chassis of the vehicle can cause corrosion under the windshield adhesive over time and lead to the window breaking. The windshield is critical to the vehicle's structural rigidity as it contributes to both the roof support and the airbag deployment. The Honda dealership service manager submitted goodwill on my vehicle past warranty for a paint defect from the manufacturing process, but American Honda Motor Company has denied the claim as they determined it as cosmetic damage only. There are multiple reports online on paint defects from other Honda Civic owners from various places. There was a lawsuit settlement on older generation Honda Civic vehicles, but it looks like the known issue is still present on the newer generation. Based on the location of the paint defect, it can become a safety concern.

AMERICAN HONDA IS THE MOST FRAUDULENT COMPANY I EVER DEALT WITH. WITHIN THE 1ST YEAR, A SERIOUS PROBLEM DEVELOPED WITH THE TRUNK, WHICH RANDOMLY OPENS FOR NO REASON, SOMETIMES OVERNIGHT, SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. WE TOOK THE CAR 2X TO THE DELRAY BEACH DEALER , & IT CLAIMED ITCOULDN'T IDENTIFY OR REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, & THEN THAT THEY FIXED IT. THEY DID NOTHING & THE PROBLEM NEVER STOPPED. I WASTED 2 DAYS ON THESE VISITS, ACCOMPLISHING NOTHING. LAST MONTH, NOW IN CALIFORNIA, & STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THE TRUNK OPENED WHILE I WAS AWAY FOR A WEEK, & I HAD WATER DAMAGE TO > $200 OF ITEMS IN MY TRUNK. I SPOKE WITH LIVETTE AT HONDA, WHO TOLD ME TO GO TO THE BERKELEY DEALER TO HAVE THE CAR ASSESSED. I REVIEWED THE HISTORY OF THE MATTER, & TOLD HER I WANTED TO BE SURE THE DEALER WOULD BE AUTHORIZED TO MAKE REPAIRS. INSTEAD. I WASTED ANOTHER 4+ HOURS AT THE DEALER, WHO SAID IT COULDN'T IDENTIFY & HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE ISSUE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON LINE, & WHEN I SHOWED THEM THE COMPLAINTS & HOW DEALERS HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM, THE DEALER SAID IT NEEDED APPROVAL FROM HONDA (HONDA SAID IT NEEDED THE DEALER TO APPROVE THE REPAIR, SO IT'S LIKE DEALING WITH THE INSANE). THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD CALL ME AFTER OBTAINING APPROVAL'THEY NEVER DID. LIVETTE WAS THE MOST OFFENSIVE PERSON I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH, LIED TO MY FACE, & REFUSED TO AUTHORIZE THE REPAIR & CLOSED THE CASE THOUGH SHE NEVER EVEN SPOKE WITH THE DEALER. THESE CARS HAVE A KNOWN DANGEROUS DEFECT & HONDA HAS DONE NOTHING'THESE CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE NTSB SHOULD TRACK ON-LINE COMPLAINTS & OBTAIN ALL HONDA COMPLAINTS FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS TO DETERMINE ALL MODELS AFFECTED. THE CAR'S UNDERCARRIAGE IS ALSO KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE; IT IS FAR TOO LOW & SCRAPES ON SPEED BUMPS & GETS TORN OFF BY THEM, PARKING BARRIERS, & ANY ROAD INCLINE.

TRUNK SPONTANEOUSLY OPENS. IT HASN'T HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, CONTACTED HONDA'S HEADQUARTERS. THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE SO CANNOT FIX IT. THERE ARE OTHERS ON THE CIVIC ONLINE FORUM WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A SECURITY ISSUE WHERE I CANNOT KEEP ANYTHING IN MY TRUNK. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. ONE NIGHT AFTER I GOT HOME, I WENT BACK OUT TO MY CAR AND THE TRUNK WAS OPENED. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, I GO OUT TO MY CAR IN THE MORNING OR AFTER WORK AND MY TRUNK IS OPEN. I KEEP THE KEYS AS FAR AWAY FROM THE CAR AS I CAN, I HANG THEM UP, BUT THEM IN THE BEDROOM AND IT DOES NOT GOOD--SO IT IS NOT THE SENSITIVITY OF THE KEY. I ALSO NOTICED MY GAS TANK HATCH OPENS AFTER I FILL THE TANK. SEE THE ATTACHED CORRESPONDENCE TO HONDA DATED TODAY.

I LEASED THE HONDA CIVIC 2016 AT WOODLAND HILLS HONDA. IT WAS AFTER LEASING DATE, WITHIN 24-48 HOURS TIME, I RETURNED TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP TO EXPLAIN THAT I DID NOT HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING THAT THE HONDA CIVIC 2016 DID NOT COME WITH A CD PLAYER AND ONLY OFFERED AN AUXILIARY CORD OUTLET TO WORK THE ENTIRE SOUND SYSTEM BY MY CELL PHONE. THE CAR DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE UNWILLING TO HELP ME WITH A NEW CAR UNLESS I WANTED TO PAY MORE MONEY BUT I COULD NOT GET A NEW CAR AT THE SAME PRICE. I ARGUED FOR MONTHS WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT BEING FORCED TO WORK THE AUDIO SYSTEM AND RUN MY MAPS FOR NAVIGATION THROUGH MY CELL PHONE POSED A SERIOUS THREAT OF DISTRACTED DRIVING. THE CAR IS BUILT IN SUCH A WAY, THAT THE DRIVER IS ONLY GIVEN AN OPTION TO USE THE CELL PHONE TO OPERATE AUDIO AND NAVIGATION. THE WAY THAT THE CAR IS BUILT, WITHOUT THE CD PLAYER, AND ONLY AN AUXILIARY CORD TO PLUG INTO MY PHONE TO WORK THE SOUND SYSTEM INTERFACE CONFLICTS WITH THE CALIFORNIA ANTI-TEXTING LAW VC 23123.5. BEING FORCED TO WORK MY SOUND SYSTEM AND MAPS FOR NAVIGATION ON MY CELL PHONE IS THE SAME SPIRIT AS TO WHAT AND WHY THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW. IT IS DISTRACTED DRIVING. SALESMEN ARE NOT CLEARLY EXPLAINING THAT YOU ARE BUYING A CAR WITH NO CD PLAYER AND YOU NEED TO WORK YOUR MUSIC FROM YOUR CELL PHONE. THERE IS ALSO MORE CONFUSION AT THE POINT OF SALE BECAUSE THERE ARE OTHER CARS THAT COME WITH BOTH THE AUX CORD AND ALSO THE CD PLAYER SUCH AS THE HONDA ACCORD 2016 PILOT FOR EXAMPLE. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, I BELIEVED I WAS BUYING A CAR WITH BOTH THE AUX CORD AND THE CD PLAYER. LATER, IS WHEN I LEARNED, I LEASED THE VEHICLE WITH ONLY THE AUX CORD OPTION. I REQUESTED TO END MY CONTRACT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AS I BELIEVED THE CAR WAS A POLICE MAGNET. I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE A CAR THAT MAKES ME DO SOMETHING TO ATTRACT OFFICERS. Over a several month period the car was losing radiator fluid. I figured it was probably a stuck thermostat and the fluid was coming from the overflow. But only once did I see a minimal amount of fluid. Not near the amount that had been lost in the cooling system. Fast forward a few months and I am driving home. Top speed starts out at the speed limit of 70 and slowly slips to 65 then 60. Giving it more gas would increase the rpms but no power or forward thrust was making to the tires. It was as if, it was falling into neutral. The next morning drive to work was much worse. starting with a top speed of 65 within 10 miles on the highway the top speed went to 55 then to 45 then 35. When the top speed was 45 mph I took the first exit and made it through a stop sign on the service road. With a crawling speed of 10 mph it limped into a strip-center parking lot. Once it was stopped, pushing the gas pedal would increase rpms but no forward movement. So, I assumed a new transmission (CTV) was in my future and had it towed to a local dependable, honest, five-star reviewed auto shop. They found it misfiring and upon investigation find radiator fluid in the oil. So, they tell me the engine died and they could not even check the transmission. In the end, a used engine with 40K miles was put in it, a newer used transmission, and a new turbo (it was bad too). $14,000 + dollars is what the shop charged in June of 24 and Dec of 23. I tried to no avail to have the turbo covered under a lifetime warranty of an autobody shop that had replaced it following a road hazard claim that damaged it.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while the vehicle was idling or driving at various speeds, she depressed the accelerator pedal however, the RPM’s increased and the engine revved; however, there was an extended delay before the vehicle responded. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure, and an appointment was scheduled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

A COUPLE OF TIMES WHILE IM STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT MY CAR STALLS, I TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER BUT THEY DIDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I'M WORRIED THAT I GET IN TO A CAR ACCIDENT IF MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPS WHILE IM DRIVING.

OVER THE LAST YEAR MY 2016 HONDA CIVIC FELT LIKE IT WANTED TO STALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I DIDN'T KNOW IF SOMETHING WAS WRONG UNTIL IT DID IT WHEN MY HUSBAND DROVE IT. LATER THAT AFTERNOON I STARTED MY CAR AND MY CABIN FILLED WITH THE WORSE SMELL OF GAS AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER GAGGED. MY DIPSTICK FOR OIL SMELT I F GAS TOO. I GOOGLED THIS AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS AN OIL DILUTION PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT AND SAID NOTHING IS WRONG BASICALLY BECAUSE IT DID NOT THROW A CODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON. HONDA HAS NOT RECALLED THUS BUT THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THEY ARE OFFERING A UPDATE BUT ONLY TO OWNERS BACK EAST IN COKD WEATHER STATES. WELL I KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG AND MY DEALER SAID I CANT GET UPDATE UNLESS THEY SEE THAT CODE. Each time I drove my car the tire pressure light would flash before the ABS, brake system, power steering and traction lights would come on and the dealership could not find the problem although my car would not accelerate and the speed sensor has already been changed because only one went bad prior. 3 times to the dealership and no codes could be found and they couldn’t never duplicate the problem once the vehicle was turned off. This time the car jerked at take off and would not accelerate. They stated that it was the VBS Module that had to replaced this final time.

THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL PICKS UP SPEED WHEN GOING DOWN HILL. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS A BASE MODEL AND DOES NOT HAVE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, THEREFORE, ACCORDING TO THEM, IS WORKING AS DESIGNED. THE "DESIGN" HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW AS THE DRIVER MUST CONSTANTLY BE AWARE OF THE TERRAIN AND SPEED OF THE VEHICLE WHICH SEEMS TO NEGATE THE USE OF A CRUISE CONTROL. I EXPERIENCED SEVERAL FRIGHTENING SITUATIONS WHILE ON A ROAD TRIP FROM YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK TO SEATTLE THIS SUMMER. THE CAR WAS GAINING AS MUCH AS 20-30 MPH ON STEEP, MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN RESULTING IN DANGEROUS SPEEDS. I DISCONTINUED USE THINKING THAT THIS "FEATURE" WAS MALFUNCTIONING. LUG NUTS ARE SELF LOOSENING. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT LUG NUTS SHOULD BE CHECKED PERIODICALLY. HOWEVER, WITH 12,000 MILES I HAVE HAD TWO TIGHTEN NUTS ON THREE OCCASIONS. IN PARTICULAR THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. I FIRST NOTICED A CLICKING SOUND WHEN MAKING A TURN, THAT CLICKING WOULD GO AWAY AFTER A MILE OR SO THEN AFTER A WEEK OR TWO TURNED INTO BRAKE GRINDING. WENT TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND DISCOVERED THE TIRE WAS LOOSE AND IT WAS THE WHEEL ROCKING BACK AND FORTH MAKING THE CLICKING SOUND. THE CALIPER NOT BEING ALIGNED WITH THE ROTOR WOULD GRIND UNTIL THE CAR WAS DRIVEN A FEW BLOCKS AND THE GRINDING WOULD CEASE. I NOW RECOGNIZE THE SYMPTOMS AND CORRECT IT IMMEDIATELY. My 2016 Honda Civic has a recurring safety-critical defect that began approximately 2–3 weeks after purchase. While turning (most often left turns), the vehicle suddenly shuts off without warning. When this occurs, the power steering assist locks, brake assist is lost, and the electrical system cuts off and then reboots. This has happened more than 5–6 times and nearly caused collisions. I had to apply extreme brake pressure to avoid hitting another vehicle during one incident. The steering becomes rigid, the dashboard goes dark, and the car restarts on its own while still in motion. Before I purchased the vehicle, a diagnostic inspection was performed and no issues were reported. Since owning the car, it has also been taken to a mechanic multiple times, and no diagnostic code or mechanical explanation for this shutdown issue has ever been identified. The defect appears intermittently and leaves no trace or error codes, making it extremely difficult to detect or repair. This is a serious safety hazard that could cause injury or death. The problem appears to be a latent defect that was present at the time of vehicle sale. I am reporting this so NHTSA can investigate whether this is a known issue with this model or whether other consumers have experienced similar sudden shutdowns.

My front driver side wheel completely detached from the vehicle’s body while I was driving home causing the left side of my car to collide with the street pavement and skid to a stop. The driver door airbags deployed, fluid leaked from under the vehicle and the bottom driver side of the car was damaged including the back left wheel/tire. The car had to be towed and an insurance claim was filed for review.

Steering rack is malfunctioning; I've taken my vehicle to different Honda dealerships and have paid for multiple diagnostics regarding the steering rack. The last time I took my vehicle to dealership was Wednesday July 16 2025 at 8:00 am Honda of Mishawaka, IN I told them the steering wheel was getting sticky and that it was affecting my alignment. Honda took a look and realigned my wheels, but did NOT fix the issue with my steering.

For a while now (months), we have noticed our 2016 Honda Civic has had a "sticky" (a click or jerk) feeling when handling the steering wheel, particularly while driving on the freeway, holding long turns, or when even reversing (from an angle) into a parking stall (for the parking, a click/pop is audibly heard). Basically, the steering wheel will suddenly shift/jerk slightly left/right, which causes you to no longer be steering in the exact line you were on. Driver has to then correct by making an opposing shift in the opposite direction to return to the exact line that was being driven. It is a bit of a nuisance, and produces anxiety on the driver's part, leaving one wondering if/when the shift/jerk will cause even larger of an issue, potentially posing risk of harm to the vehicle's and neighboring vehicles' riders via a collision. Our Honda service technician recently confirmed, after our recent big maintenance service, that this issue is present and has something to do with some steering mechanism (I don't recall the correct term of the equipment/device), and that an estimated repair cost would be $3,000-$4,000. For now, we have been advised to monitor, and that basically it is up to us to decide if/when we would like to spend $3,000-$4,000 to have this repaired at our own expense. We are not aware of how this issue arose (what the exact cause is), but is potentially due manufacturing. There are no dashboard warning lights that illuminate during the shifting/jerking of the steering. We just feel it, moreso if you are the one driving. This issue is experienced daily. Our primary concern is prevention of a collision. We do not want it to get to the point of having had a collision/emergency, then reactively reporting the issue to NHTSA. And we do not have funds to purchase a new vehicle. Can we possibly have more confidence in this vehicle being able to transport our family safely without fear of steering issues? 1st Steering wheel pops on highway 65+mph, I've taken my vehicle to dealership to get diagnosed supposedly couldn't find anything wrong, I've even taken a service rep for a drive to show them what is happening they noticed but service told him not to do anything! Second issue squealing noise coming from wheel bearings I took my car to 2 different shops, Honda and wheel shop both places can't determine where noise is coming from!

Is available for inspection within the week. - My daughter was driving on the freeway in the fast lane when vehicle started making loud hum noise then, came to a stop. She had to coast to the side of the road, where she was almost hit by multiple vehicles. - Yes Vehicle has been inspected by a independent service center - towed by USAA insurance. - Has been inspected by other: Davis Auto Clinic, Davis, CA 95616 - No warning lights came on, or symptoms of the problem. Only hum noise which began 5 minutes before car stalled in middle of freeway. First appeared at time of stall, no warning at all.

TRANSMISSION FILL PLUG CAME OUT AND LEAKED FLUID ALL OVER MY TRANSMISSION. THE FLUID WAS CHANGED AT MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. ONLY NOTICED WHILE I WAS CHANGING MY OIL ON 9/6/2020. I HAVE NO IDEA TO WHEN THE PLUG CAME OUT AND STARTED LEAKING. I LOOKED IT UP IN ONLINE FORUMS AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I'M AFRAID IT WILL GET DIRT OR OTHER MATERIALS IN MY TRANSMISSION AND MESS IT UP. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO IT BY TAKING THE AIR-INTAKE OFF AND PUTTING THE PLUG BACK IN PLACE. My steering wheel is very sticky. Doesn't happen until I've been driving at highway speeds for at least 15 minutes. It's also worse when it's warmer. My steering wheel is so sticky to the left to the point where I don't feel safe and feel like I could fly off the curves if don't drive under the speed limit (ie feel need to drive 60mph around bends on a 70mph highway).

When a phone is placed in the designated spot on the center console under the radio, it will fly backward upon acceleration. It has caused my phone to fly backward and unstrap my seatbelt while pulling onto a busy highway. I am not the only person this has happened to. This is a design flaw. The area beneath the radio where you are supposed to place your phone is not secure enough to hold an average size phone and poses a serious risk as the center console is taller than the driver's seat. It has undone my seatbelt on more than one occasion. I would likely have been ejected from the car if someone would havce hit me while this this occurred. Please recall these vehicles to fix this design flaw. It is extremely dangerous.

The center console under the radio is not equipped to hold anything like a phone or something of similar size. When accelerating, the phone or item will become unsecured and fall. In this particular incident, it caused my phone to slide backwards and undo my seatbelt while driving. A car was about to rear end me as this was happening. This is not the first time this has happened. This could be incredibly dangerous and cause a restrained driver to suddenly become unrestrained and before an accident. The center console is not large enough or secure enough to hold a phone or similar item. This is also where they would place a wireless charging pad so it is intended for your phone to sit in the center console under the radio.

I was driving through an intersection, the car ahead of me was turning right and I was behind them with plenty of distance. They turned right and I followed straight. However my emergency braking system decided the car was very close, and better yet after it had already turned, decided I was about to have a collision with nobody in front of me and stopped my car in the middle of the intersection, while the light turned red. I desperately got my car to go, after abruptly stopping for no reason, but safe to say I was shaken up a bit and turned that off. Happened today of this complaint 8/5/2022. And it’s happened before on curvy roads, once where my car came to a abrupt stop and other times false alarms to “brake”.

Adaptive cruise control as well as automatic braking has come close several times to cause an accident on the highway. Sometimes a truck will be passing me in the left lane and the car will all of a sudden slam on brakes when there is nothing in front of me almost getting rear ended from the car behind me. Even when the cruise control isn’t set the automatic breaking will activate randomly when a large truck is passing me. I purchased this vehicle used and reported this to the dealer time of purchase but they did not fix it. But at the time it was not as noticeable. The car has less than 100,000 miles. The lane departure does not work pulling the car to oncoming traffic. In oncoming traffic in left lane it constantly causes the automatic breaking light to flash. This also randomly kicks off the cruise control. This situation seems to be getting worse. The form below is asking for a date that these incidents happen and does not give a place to say it happens every day, it’s only asking for a specific date. One day this is going to cause a severe accident.

ON TWO OCCASIONS, MY CIVIC HAS "LOCKED UP". UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATE AND THE CAR WON'T GO INTO GEAR. I WAS STUCK WHERE I WAS AND HAD TO GET THE CAR MOVING SO I FORCEFULLY ENGAGED THE VEHICLE BY INSERTING THE KEY INTO THE SHIFT KNOB AREA. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE STILL ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MOVE, THE VEHICLE WAS VERY HARD TO MANEUVER, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK WELL, AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I EVENTUALLY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND "RESET" THE COMPUTER THAT WAY. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A FEW MONTHS, THEN CAME BACK AGAIN SAME EXACT WAY. THE NEXT TIME, I DID THE SAME THING, DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND IT RESET. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS PROBLEM IS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, TRANSMISSION, BRAKING, OR WHATEVER. ALL I KNOW IS IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AFTER I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. ONE OTHER POINT TO MAKE, I ALREADY HAD THE "PARKING BRAKE RECALL" SOFTWARE UPDATE COMPLETED BY HONDA. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM AND ALL THEY COULD DO WOULD BE RESTART THE CAR UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. A RODENT CRAWLED UP INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHEWED UP THE WIRES TO COIL CONNECTOR. IT MADE ALL OF THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS TO COME ON AND THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING DUE TO THE MIS-FIRING COIL. IT IS HONDA FAULT BECAUSE THEY COVERED/MADE THE WIRES WITH SOY, WHICH ATTRACTS RODENTS. MY 2016 CIVIC IS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD WITH 9,500 MILES, HONDA CLAIMS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. HONDA THEN, WANTED TO SELL ME A $500 ENGINE WIRING HARNESS, THIS IS RIDICULES, BECAUSE IT DOESN'T RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE RODENTS WILL BE ATTRACTED TO THE NEW WIRE HARNESS TOO. THEY ALSO WANTED TO SELL ME SPICY RODENT TAPE FOR $48, THIS IS A SCAM, HONDA NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, THEY WILL BE LOSING LOYAL CUSTOMERS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THE REASON THEY TOLD ME IS THAT THEY HAD ONE OF MY TIRES REPLACED ONE WEEK BEFORE AND TPMS HAD NOT BEEN RESET CORRECTLY. HOWEVER, WHY IT TOOK TWO WEEKS FOR THE SYSTEM TO GIVE THE WARNING MESSAGES INSTEAD OF RIGHT AFTER TIRE GOT CHANGED? 3) TPMS FAILED TO DETECT FLAT TIRE. THE HONDA NEVER REGAINS NORMAL POWER. THE SAME DATE IN THE EVENING, I DROVE THE HONDA FOR ABOUT 3 MILES AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND NEVER LOSS POWER. THE FOLLOWING DATE, I DROVE THE CAR AND SUDDENLY AGAIN LOSS POWER WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN A BLOCK AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. DROVE BACK MY HONDA BACK TO MY HOUSE WITH THE CAR NEVER REGAINING NORMAL POWER. THE HONDA CIVIC ONLY DRIVES WELL FOR LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE AND THEN SUDDENLY LOSS POWER, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING A TURN. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN THE CAR LOSS POWER IT ONLY DRIVES UP TO 15 MPH (WHICH TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS TO REACH 15 MPH) AND NEVER REGAIN NORMAL POWER. THIS LOSS OF POWER STARTED ON 10-31-19, WHICH WAS A VERY COOL DAY ABOUT 24-DEGREE FAHRENHEIT. MY CAR IS NOT DRIVER ABLE ANY LONGER. NOW THAT THIS HAPPEN, I RESEARCH PROBLEMS WITH 2016 CIVIC AND FOUND OUT THAT HONDA HAD AN ISSUE WITH 1.5 TURBO ENGINE SINCE 2017. ONE MONTH AND HALF PRIOR TO THIS HAPPEN, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER SERVICES TWICE AND ONLY WANT TO CHARGE ME WITH THINGS THAT THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER AND COULD NOT TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. HONDA DEALER SHOULD HAD KNOWN THE PROBLEMS MY CAR HAS ARE RELATE TO OIL DILUTION IN THE ENGINE, BUT DECIDED NOT TO ADDRESS IT. NOW, I HAVE A CAR THAT IS NOT DRIVER ABLE AND NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I WOULD LOCK THE CAR AND ALL WINDOWS WOULD BE UP WHEN LEAVING THE CAR BUT I'D RETURN TO ALL WINDOWS DOWN AND THE SUNROOF OPEN! THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN THE FIRST TWO YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR! I WAS DRIVING THE FREEWAY AT 70MPH WHEN SUDDENLY ALL THE INDICATORS WENT BERSERK WITH 6 DIFFERENT PROBLEMS APPEARING ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I WENT FROM 70 TO 40MPH WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING. IT SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME COZ THE CARS BEHIND ME STARTED HONKING AT BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN REDUCED SPEED. IT COULD'VE COST ME MY LIFE! I PURCHASED MY 2016 CIVIC EX IN NOVEMBER 2015. VERY SOON AFTER I NOTICED 4 NOTIFICATIONS ON THE TOUCHSCREEN REGARDING BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THOSE NOTIFICATIONS WERE FROM MANUFACTURING AND WERE MOST LIKELY NOT CLEARED DURING INTAKE WALKTHROUGH. IN JUNE I STARTED NOTICING A RELAY CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN THAT PERSISTED WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, OR WHEN I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE AT A STOP. AS SOON AS I DEPRESS THE BRAKE PETAL THE CLICK STOPS. AS OF TODAY I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE 4 TIMES TO CORRECT THE ISSUE AND IT CONTINUES. FIRST THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND AS SOON AS I LEFT THE PARKING LOT THE VEHICLE BEGAN CLICKING. THEY REPLACED THE VSA MODULATOR AND INSISTED THE CLICKING HAD CEASED. THE CLICKING BEGAN AS SOON AS I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. THE THIRD TIME THE SERVICE TECHS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE AND THEREFORE NOT ABLE TO INVESTIGATE OR REPAIR. Body: underneath part came unsecured out of nowhere on my collage daughters car. It was scary for her as it scraped bottom and rattled out of no where on highway. She stopped and since nothing on hand, she had to push it up with feet and it bent to hold till she got to shop. They quick fix with zip tie or something. Someone hit her from back and she took to shop. I mentioned it that some noise coming after the fix and was supposed to to bring it to them this week. It just rattled but nothing else. Drivable still. Than middle of no where, that bottom popped again and she panicked. It was Sunday so no one is open. I had to have her park at work and pick her up which is an hour away. This is very dangerous as when we googled, this has happened to soooo many Honda civic owners! Need to do recall and fix this issue for good. It’s underneath the car so hard to tell till it drops to flow. We love the car but this issue is greater. Also, she has tire sensor light always comes up. We got new tires also!

After driving for over 30 minutes, the steering becomes sticky. When I try to make minor corrections to stay in the lane, the steering gets stuck, requiring a little extra force, resulting in a slight over correction. At high speeds this slight over correction is very dangerous. This happens on all extended drives. It happens at all speeds.

The contact stated that while the parent was parking into a parking space, and straightening the steering wheel; the brake pedal depressed but the vehicle continued to drive. I have noticed for a while now. When the light turns green or I'm at a stop and I have enough time to take off the car does not move when I apply the gas. It stalls and that scares me. I have noticed my cruise control shut off the other day when driving on the freeway. And I could not turn it back on. Now when I try to apply the parking bake when I'm parked the parking brake does not turn on nor the brake hold. The lights keep flashing than turn odd My headlight in the front and back passenger don't work. I've switched out the bulbs and it's an electrical problem. I see recalls on some of these matters but honda won't do nothing because it's not on their system when I bought this car in 2016.

The past few weeks I’ve been taking my vehicle for service to the Honda Dealership located in Daphne, Alabama and I’ve been complaining about suspension problems and my main concern is my tie rod end and the dealership refuses to repair, then yesterday when I brought it in for service they charged me for a diagnostics without my permission and I asked for the report and won’t hand it over and today [XXX] they did the diagnostic again and won’t hand over the report then lied and said it’s my Mass airflow sensor and there no check engine light on. For the past for weeks I’ve been wondering why the dealership has been mistreating me and it is because of the Honda manufacture, today I called the Honda manufacturer and ask if I’m listed as the vehicle owner in their systems because my vehicle is a 2016 and I haven’t had any open recall associated with my vin in the 4 years I’ve owned it. The Honda dealership gave me a document for a vin check and I’m not listed as the owner so perhaps the recalls aren’t being inserting into the proper file. I called the manufacturer and asked to speak to a supervisor and the representative refused to do so and I have a recorded conversation that I would like to forward to you once an investigation is opened. I bought my 2016 Honda Civic and never had issues with it besides the AC unit not working which was resolved because of the recalls and was repaired by my local dealership. Now I am having issues when it comes to accelerating. There is an accelerating delay/ stall when completing a stop and there’s a delay to get the car to move after pressing on the gas pedal or when reversing when getting out of th driveway. The most dangerous event is when I’m driving and i come to a stop to make a right turn and right after ensuring there is no upcoming traffic to make the right turn my car does not accelerate and it’s very scary because I can get hit by another car. There’s times where I’m driving and the car can turn off. I feel like my life and other drivers life’s are at risk. Honda has recalls for fuel pumps for other year/models but not for mine. I just want to make sure if this is something that can be recalled. Thank you

While driving on the freeway at 70-80mph the car begins to lose acceleration, stutters and faults all fault codes on the car. Car then begins to brake itself to a stop all while on a freeway at a high rate of speed. I have to pull over to the side of the freeway, crossing up to 5 lanes of high speed traffic all while my car is braking itself to a stop. I have narrowly missed 5 accidents in the 7 times this has occurred. Each time while in the left or carpool lanes of traffic while passing other vehicles at a high rate of speed. I have to bring the car to a complete stop on the side of the road, turn the car off to disengage the braking system, turn the car on, all fault codes remain, car stays in limp mode or safe mode, I limp to the dealer and drop it off. 2 Honda dealers in 2 different states can’t figure out what’s wrong with it. Replaced multiple replays and other components and I am now about $3800 in repairs and the car is not fixed. This has been happening since March when the first occurrence happened. Second and 3rd in Washington while visiting family in June and as of today, the 7th time occurred this morning while taking the car back to the dealer to have it looked at because it faulted on Saturday evening. Codes cleared when I started the car this morning and happened again as I was driving to the dealer. Each time the dealers have the car for a week. Say this fixed it, test drive it have no issues return it to me to have it happen within days of being returned. I’m terrified to drive the car at high speed even when I do get it back as “fix”. I feel like my issues and security is being constantly over looked by Honda. Arrowhead Honda in Arizona currently has the car for yet again more “repairs”.

Similar to the Honda recall issued today for the reverse camera failures, I have found a recurring problem with the 2016 Honda Civics. The dashboard screen should show the back-up camera when in reverse, as well as the backward-facing camera mounted on the right side mirror when the right turn signal is on. More often than not, the cameras will show on the screen, but will then go back to the home/default screen before the maneuver is complete. It happens more often with the right mirror mounted camera, that it turns off prior to the turn signal being turned off, which has caused us numerous close calls when someone is actually in the blind spot. We count on that right side camera and when it malfunctions and the screen goes back to default when you are in the middle of changing lanes, it is very scary. I have searched for a fix from Honda and have noted that there are many Honda Civic owners who have been told by dealers that it is a known issue but there is no fix. For the owners who have gotten a new screen installed, they continue to report the same issues. Additional screen issues (although not related to safety) include the fact that the screens change modes/functions without being touched. I believe the camera issue is a malfunctioning screen issue as a whole and causes a major safety concern. The current recall for Honda Odyssey, Passport, and Pilot cameras should be expanded to include other Honda models and other years and should look at malfunctioning screens (not just cameras), especially since this is allegedly a 'known issue' to Honda.

And the big one the steering. After driving on the highway for a bit, I notice the steering has a sticky kind of groove it likes to be in. I have not found a solution to the problem. Safety-camera screen blinking but you're used to using it, could potentially hit something. Nausea in traffic not good for any one. Steering-trying to maintain a lane while the steering gets stuck to the left but the road is veering to the right, it's terrifying. The car has a mind of its own and only performs when it wants...no official dealer report. I don't believe there are any official reports in regards to my vehicle. There have been NO lights or any kind of warning or messages about this. AC was about a year into having the car. The screen happened first winter and every winter since. The sticky steering wheel has been like herpes for about the past 5 years. I just want to have nice things that work. Thank you for your time.

My 2016 Honda Civic Touring is equipped with automatic emergency braking. In more than one instance, my Civic has applied the brakes unnecessarily when there was no apparent danger. Traveling on the highway at 65 mph, I have been 'cut-off' by a driver and the brakes were applied hard. There was no way to override the braking and the car commanded itself to a complete stop. The drivers immediately behind me had to brake hard and if they hadn't maintained control there would have been a pile-up. This took place in Cobb County, GA during rush hour on 75S in the 'Northwest Corridor' area. This is a high traffic density area.

Multiple times my 2016 Honda Civic has engaged the auto braking system for what appears to be no reason at all. I have had my Honda brake when I do not have any vehicles, obstacles, items or obstructions anywhere in the road in front of me or beside me. When this occurs at full speed on the road the vehicles traveling behind me have had to quickly swerve into the adjacent lanes of travel to avoid a rear end collision which could have resulted in serious injury. I have also noticed that the lane departure warning system is faulty and frequently goes off steering my vehicle into the lane next to me even if there is a car occupying the lane next to me. I HAVE SPOKE WITH AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY ARE AWARE OF MY PROBLEM AND REFUSE TO HELP. HE WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL FOR A/C AFFECTED ONLY ONE PART OF THE UNIT WHICH THEY COULD FIX UNDER NO COST...BUT THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS A HUGE HOLE IN THE AIR COMPRESSOR AND THIS WAS NOT COVERED. THEY QUOTED OVER $2,000 TO REPLACE AIR COMPRESSOR. I FOUND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE AND RESEARCHED TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSES A HOLE IN THE COMPRESSOR THAT MAKES IT BEYOND REPAIR AND THE ONLY INFORMATION I COULD FIND WERE OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH 2016 HONDA CIVIC FAULTY AIR COMPRESSORS. FUEL IS LEAKING INTO THE OIL. THE DEALER JUST SUGGESTED CHANGING THE OIL MORE OFTEN. I KNOW THIS IS A DEFECT BUT WHAT CAN I DO? THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS NOT RELIABLE....ONE DAY MY PASSENGER WINDOW WOULD NOT WORK FROM MY CONTROL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. FINALLY IT DID--THIS WAS WHEN PARKED. THEY REPLACED ONCE AND THEN "UPDATED" THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM ONCE BECAUSE OF VERY DISRUPTIVE THINGS THAT HAPPEN ON THE SCREEN WHILE DRIVING. ONCE (THIS WAS PARKED) IT TOTALLY LOCKED UP MY IPHONE SO THAT I COULD NOT USE IT EVEN AFTER I SHUT THE CAR OFF (I WAS PARKED AND HAD TURNED THE CAR ON ) AND REBOOTED MY PHONE! ONCE I GOT LOCKED OUT OF MY CAR AFTER OPENING THE TRUNK AND CLOSING IT...MY FOB WOULD NOT WORK AND WHEN I USED THE KEY, IT SET OFF THE ALARM, FLASHED THE LIGHTS AND RESET ALL MY PERSONAL SETTINGS. SOMETIMES THE STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROLS LOCK UP AND DON'T WORK. MANY TIMES THE RADIO SCREEN GOES BLACK WHEN I AM DRIVING AND NOT TOUCHING IT. ONE TIME IT STARTED BEEPING AND WOULD NOT STOP....VERY DANGEROUS AS I TRY TO DRIVE WITH THE BEEPING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO APPLY AS EXPECTED. THIS RESULTED IN A REAR END COLLISION THAT FORTUNATELY DIDN'T HAVE ANY FATALITIES. THE AIRBAGS ALSO DIDN'T DEPLOY DURING THE COLLISION. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, BUT INSTEAD OF A RESPONSE BACK AND PRESSURE COMING BACK FROM THE BRAKING SYSTEM, THE BRAKING PEDAL FELT LOOSE AND THE CAR INSTEAD OF COMING TO A STOP, CONTINUED TO SLOWLY DECELERATE. I'VE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR 2 YEARS AND MY EXPECTATION WAS THAT THE CAR SHOULD HAVE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP INSTEAD OF JUST SLOWING DOWN WITHIN THE DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE CAR IN FRONT. THERE WERE ALSO NO SKID MARKS ON THE PAVEMENT. I SUSPECT THE BRAKES FAILED AND HAVE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THE DEALERSHIP AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY IN TRYING TO GET THIS LOOKED INTO BY SOMEONE THAT CAN COME UP WITH A REPORT ON THE STATUS OF THE BRAKES. COLLISION SHOP AND INSURANCE COMPANY INSISTED VEHICLE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETE AND FOUGHT ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS FINALLY TAKEN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND A DTC CODE WAS THRON. ADDITIONAL ISSUES WITH THE INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE POST COLLISION WERE NOTED AND BOTH COLLISION SHOP AND INSURANCE COMPANY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE SAFETY ISSUES AND REPAIR THE VEHICLE TO SAFETY STANDARDS. NEITHER THE COLLISION SHOP NOR THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS FAMILIAR WITH THE NEW 2016 CIVIC BODY, DIAGNOSTICS, CRASH ZONES, AND HONDA POSITION STATEMENTS ISSUED FOR THE PARTICULAR MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS SPECIFICALLY PURCHASED FOR A NEWLY LICENSED DRIVER, WITH SAFETY BEING THE TOP PRIORITY. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE AND IT WOULD BE TRAGIC TO HAVE ANOTHER ACCIDENT, WHERE THE OTHER DRIVER IS AT FAULT, WITH A MUCH WORSE OUTCOME BECAUSE THE INTEGRITY OF THIS THIS VEHICLE IS COMPROMISED DUE TO INADEQUATE REPAIR. THE HONDA CIVIC WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SET WHEN IT WAS PARKED. THE VEHICLE HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. A FEW HOURS LATER THE CAR ALARM WAS GOING OFF AND WHEN I WENT TO LOOK TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON I DISCOVERED THAT THE CAR HAD ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVE AND INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE POLICE IN MY JURISDICTION DO NOT TAKE ACCIDENT REPORTS FOR ACCIDENTS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY THEREFORE A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT TAKEN. AFTER THE INCIDENT I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A ACTIVE RECALL INVOLVING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR ON OCTOBER 8, 2016 I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A "DO NOT SELL" NOTE IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM DUE TO THE RECALL. THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD DO THE DOWNLOAD WHILE WE DID THE PAPERWORK. AFTER THIS INCIDENT INVOLVING THE WRECK THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO CHECKED THE DOWNLOAD AND CONFIRMED THAT THE DOWNLOAD WAS UP TO DATE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TWO DAYS LATER TO HAVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM INSPECTED WHICH THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO CODES FOUND IN THE SYSTEM. THIS WAS DONE AT THE ADVICE OF HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CONTACTED ME TODAY AND STATED THAT AT THIS TIME THEY RECOMMEND PROCEEDING WITH AN INSURANCE CLAIM. OUR 2016 HONDA CIVIC TOURING CAR EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM FROM TIME TO TIME WOULD NOT WORK PROPERLY WHEN OPERATING UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA CALLED RIGHT HONDA. THEY TOOK THE CAR TWICE TO HELP FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE AUTO BRAKING SYSTEM. NEVERTHELESS, RIGHT HONDA DROVE THE CAR AROUND 81 MILES AN HOUR. WE HAVE A GPS TRACKING DEVICE ON THE CAR THAT ALERTS US WHEN SOMEONE IS DRIVING UNPROFESSIONAL. THE RIGHT HONDA WAS SHOWN AND ASKED WHY THEY DROVE OUR CAR SO FAST AT AN UNPROFESSIONAL SPEED ON A PUBLIC STREET IN ARIZONA. THE SERVICE MANAGER JUST TOLD ME IT WAS FOR TESTING PURPOSES, TO GET THE CAR TO REACT. JUST TO GIVE SOME BACK STORY MY BOYFRIEND WAS READING AN ARTICLE ABOUT A RECALL FOR THE PISTON RING/CLIP AFFECTING THE ENGINE ON THE 2016 HONDA CIVICS AND WE IMMEDIATELY WENT TO OUR DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE CAR INSPECTED. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. LATER ON WARNING LIGHTS IN THE CAR STARTED TO TURN ON INCLUDED THE BRAKE AND ENGINE LIGHT. WE HAD A WORKER AT AUTOZONE CHECK THE LIGHTS WITH ONE OF THEIR TOOLS AND WERE TOLD THE LIGHTS MAY HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF IN THE INITIAL INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE. WE WENT BACK TWICE SPEAKING TO THE MANAGER AND SERVICE TEAM AND WERE TURNED AWAY WITH A LIST OF ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON IN THE VEHICLE WITH NO REMEDY TO FIX ANY OF THE ISSUES. WHEN WE BROUGHT UP THE RECALL AGAIN WE WERE TOLD OUR CAR DID NOT FALL UNDER IT. BECAUSE OF THEIR NEGLIGENCE I AND MY BOYFRIEND COULD AVE LOST OUR LIVES IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. WE BOUGHT THE CAR MAY 2016 AND THE RECALL WAS ISSUED FEBRUARY 2016 AND WAS STILL OPEN AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE CONSIDERING THE PARTS TO FIX THE PISTON PROBLEM WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL SUMMER. PURCHASED A NEW 2016 CIVIC TOURING IN MAY 2016. WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS I WAS HAVING SMALL ELECTRICAL ISSUES SUCH AS SCREENS GOING BLACK, REBOOTING, AND STEREO NOT WORKING. I WOULD GET A FAILURE WARNING ON THE DASH ONCE IN AWHILE (DIFFERENT EACH TIME). CAR FAILED TO START ON JULY 26TH 2016. ALL SCREENS WERE FLASHING ERROR MESSAGES. CAR WOULD NOT START. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HAD THE CAR TOWED. DEALER CLAIMED THEY HAVE NEVER SEEM THIS PROBLEM. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, AND THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I WOULD CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME SMALL PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR EVERY SO OFTEN. UNTIL, THE CAR SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP BY ITSELF AND COMPUTER TOOK 100% CONTROL OF THE CAR. I COULDN'T STEER, ACCELERATE, OR CONTROL THE CAR AT ALL. I NEARLY GOT REAR ENDED IN AN INTERSECTION. THERE WAS NOT A CAR DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE TO BRAKE IN ORDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. AFTER THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP I REGAINED CONTROL AGAIN AND THE CAR OPERATED NORMAL. SOON AFTER, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR I RECEIVED THE ALL THE ERROR CODES AGAIN AND IT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I AGAIN CALLED THE DEALER AND HAD IT TOWED. WHEN ENABLED, OR PLUGGED INTO THE CAR, NAVIGATION SUPPORT PROVIDED BY APPLE'S MAPS APPLICATION GOES INTO 'DAY MODE' WHILE AT NIGHT. THIS CREATES A HUGE AMOUNT OF BRIGHTNESS IN THE CAR AND BLINDS THE DRIVER WITH BRIGHTNESS. THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM AND I CAN EASILY SEE HOW ACCIDENTS CAN BE TRIGGERED DUE TO BLINDING INTERIOR LIGHT DUE TO THE APPLE MAPS (THROUGH CARPLAY) NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THIS IS CLEARLY AN ERROR, OR POOR DESIGN BY APPLE/HONDA. COMPUTER SYSTEM HAD A MAJOR MALFUNCTION, TRIGGERING 6 DIFFERENT WARNINGS, AND AN AUDIBLE MESSAGE TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AND PARK THE VEHICLE AND HAVE A DEALER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED AFTER FILLING UP THE VEHICLE WITH GAS. MY FAMILY WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE CAR IN ACCESSORY MODE, LISTENING TO THE RADIO. AFTER FINISHING UP FUELING, ABOUT FIVE MINUTES LATER, I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE. I GOT IN, SHUT THE DOOR, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, PRESSED THE BUTTON TO START THE VEHICLE, PUT ON MY SEAT BELT, AND THEN SAW THE MESSAGES. AFTER A FEW MINUTES WITH THE CAR ON AND READING THE MESSAGES, A VOICE STARTED TO TALK AND TELL ME, TO STOP THE VEHICLE, PARK IT, AND HAVE A DEALER LOOK AT IT. COMBINE THAT WITH THE AUDIABLE MESSAGE ABOUT PULLING OVER AND PARKING THE VEHICLE, NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND IS GOING TO DRIVE IT UNTIL IT IS PROPERLY LOOKED AT. THE DEALER DID LOOK AT IT, AND SAID IT WAS THE VSA MODULATOR, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THERE IS CASE AFTER CASE OF THIS NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM FOUND ONLINE. YET PEOPLE AND THEIR FAMILIES, INCLUDING MINE ARE BEING SENT BACK ONTO THE ROAD IN THESE VEHICLES OF WHICH HONDA HAS NOT AND CANNOT PROVIDE A FIX FOR BECAUSE IT, ITSELF DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. ANY THEREFORE NO ONE KNOWS IF THEIR CAR IS CRYING WOLF, AND JUST WAITING TO KILL THEM. I DON'T WANT MY CAR IF I CAN'T TRUST IT. I JUST CAN"T WAGER MY FAMILIES LIVES ON THAT. I PURCHASED A HONDA CIVIC LX ON 5-1-16, MY TEST DRIVE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES LONG AND I DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY PAIN. MY DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP WAS APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES LONG. BY THE TIME I ARRIVED HOME MY ARMS AND LEGS WERE NUMB, I HAD PAIN IN MY SACRAL, LUMBAR, AND CERVICAL SPINE AREAS. I HAD JUST TRADED IN MY 2016 HONDA FIT PURCHASED O 3-3-16 AT A $4,000.00 DOLLAR LOSS DUE TO SEVER BACK PAIN AND EXTREMITY NUMBNESS WHILE DRIVING THE SALESMAN TOLD ME THE REASON THE HONDA FIT 2016 SEATS WERE SO BAD WAS DO TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE MADE IN MEXICO. I AM 5'3" AND I WEIGH 122 LB. I DO YOGA ALMOST EVERY DAY AND CONSIDER MYSELF PHYSICALLY FIT. I HAVE NO HISTORY OF BACK PAIN. THE SEAT BOTTOM IS SO LOW AND SHORT THAT I HAVE NOTHING UNDER MY THIGHS FOR SUPPORT AND THE ANGLE OF THE SEAT FLOOR IS SO SEVER THAT MY KNEES ARE UP BY THE STEERING WHEEL AND MY BUTTOCKS IS WAY DOWN CLOSE TO THE FLOOR. MY KNEES ARE CONSTANTLY HITTING THE CENTER CONSOLE AND DRIVER DOOR WHEN TURNING OR HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL HONDA CAR OWNER FOR MANY YEARS AND AM SHOCKED BY THIS DANGEROUS GEOMETRICAL ERROR IN ERGONOMICS THAT HONDA IS MARKETING. MY RESPONSE TIME COULD BE SEVERELY HINDERED DO TO THE HAZAROUS INTERIOR SET UP OF THIS 2016 CIVIC LX.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND USING THE CRUZE CONTROL IN OUR TOURING MODEL THE SYSTEMS WOULD FAIL AND THE DISPLAY MULTIPLE ERRORS LIKE STABILITY CONTROL AND COLLISION MITIGATION HAVE FAILED. TO RESET THESE WE HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD STOP THE ENGINE AND RESTART. WE HAVE VIDEOS OF THE DISPLAYS. IT HAPPENED AT ANY SPEED. THE PROBLEMS STARTED SHORTLY AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER 7 TIMES AND WAS ONLY FIXED AFTER WE THREATENED TO PROCEED WE THE TEXAS LIMON LAW.

ELECTRONIC BRAKE - I HAVE HAD 2 INCIDENTS WHERE MY ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED AUTOMATICALLY WHILE DRIVING, LUCKILY WAS DRIVING IN CITY AT LOWER SPEEDS. BUT LAST WEEK, WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, STOPPED TO FILL GAS - TURNED ENGINE ON, BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE BRAKE SWITCH. HAD TO KEEP TRYING FOR A MIN OR TWO BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO TURN IT OFF. 2. SUDDEN RESISTANCE - HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS QUITE FREQUENTLY, NEED MORE ACCELERATION TO GET THE VEHICLE INTO MOTION MAINLY AT TRAFFIC STOPS. 3. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC) AND THE VEHICLE LANE KEEPING ASSIST SYSTEM (LKAS) ARE ENGAGED SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE VEHICLE WILL REACT UNPREDICTABLY UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE MAY BRAKE SUDDENLY, RAPIDLY DECELERATE, AND QUICKLY DEPART THE HIGHWAY WHEN APPROACHING EXIT RAMPS. THE SITUATION OCCURS DURING DAYLIGHT AND NIGHTTIME HOURS WITH CLEAN CAMERAS AND RADAR WINDOW. DRIVER RESPONSE TIME IS TOO SLOW TO COUNTERACT THE EVENT. THE VEHICLE MAY SLOW BY 10-15 MPH AND DEPART THE HIGHWAY BEFORE THE DRIVER IS ABLE TO RESUME CONTROL. DURING 300 MILES OF HIGHWAY DRIVING, THE VEHICLE DID THIS TWICE. A REAR END COLLISION WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED IN ONE CASE.
