The cast pistons in the turbo engine overheated and caused detonation which has disabled the engine. The extended warranty companies know about this possibility and specifically makes sure it is not covered.

Purchased in January 2023 with 99k miles. Performed oil change on day 1. Checked fluid levels every 1500 miles, noticed oil was low, ( no smoking, no burning oil smell, no idea where oil was going?) began adding oil, and checking every 500 miles. Always about 1/4 quart low. Changed oil, and filter every 3000 miles. At approximately 119k, started hearing a small ticking sound, was told to use better gas, so began using premium gas. Didn't change the ticking. At 120k tick became a loud knock, after new oil/filter change (I changed oil early at approximately 1800 miles to try to alleviate tick. Decided to drive to mechanic shop when engine light came on and showed knock sensor code. I bought a knock sensor and replaced old one. Shop says rod bearing is causing to noise, and asked to see old oil which I keep in new oil containers.after I change, to dispose of at auto store. Bottom of oil containers was full of fine metal. Tell me the engine might have recall. However 2012 accent 1.6 gdi I not on recall, but 2012 veloster is, among others that use the same engine. I believe the recall on other vehicles is due to exactly what's happed to mine. Why is the 2012 accent gs not included in the recalls for engine replacement? I've emailed huyndia of America, and they say I am responsible for fixing the engine? I feel no amount of maintenance would have kept this from happening. I've thought maybe if check engine light had come on when ticking first started I could have taken car to dealer and that tick might not have became rod bearing clanking, and knocking? Please help to add 2012 accent to recall. Ive read many other stories describing the same problem. Thank you

Loud ticking and engine knocking. Car starts to stall and overheat, car does not shift properly. Was told it was failing coils. Replaced all coils and spark plugs, this remedied the flashing ck engine light. Check engine light still on and still says the coil is not responding. Tech says it is a stuck lifter but can't be manually unstuck. Road hazard is car will stall and engine will fail without warning. Car has received regular oil change maintenance.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the transmission filter, the transmission, and the spark plugs were replaced and other unknown repairs were completed; however, the failure reoccurred increasingly while driving. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence several times. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, he saw smoke coming through the A/C vents and from underneath the hood of the vehicle. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000. The consumer stated smoking in the dash, under the hood, and the back end of the vehicle, and all codes failure.

my dealership, palmers hyundai on airport blvd in mobile, al said I can make an appointment to come in to have the abs fire hazard addressed, but there is no guarantee that they will have the part to fix the recall problem because they don't receive the item in bulk. I would have to make appt, come in and wait until my turn and then see if they would have the part to be able to fix it that day

MY 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT JUST PASSED 100,000 MILES AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH A 2006 HYUNDAI AND I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A LONGSTANDING ISSUE WITH MULTIPLE MODELS AND YEARS. THE FIX CAN BE VERY INVASIVE AND EXPENSIVE AND ONLY SOME ARE COVERED BY RECALL. CHECKING THE VIN NUMBER, MY HYUNDAI IS NOT CURRENTLY COVERED BY A RECALL, BUT I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE AS THIS IS A CONTINUING ISSUE.

THE SWITCH FOR THE WINDOWS IN THE BACK SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. THERE WAS A LOUD POP! AND SUDDENLY THE WINDOWS COULDN'T BE RAISED BACK UP AND INSTEAD STAYED AT HALF MAST. IT HAPPENED TO ONE REAR WINDOW, AND THEN A COUPLE MONTHS LATER, HAPPENED TO THE OTHER. I HAVE TO MANUALLY PUSH THE WINDOWS UP WITH MY HANDS WHEN THE REAR WINDOWS FALL.

The contact made it to the residence safely; however, after shifting into park, the engine was still revving. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who determined that the accelerator pedal was stuck. The accelerator assembly was replaced. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that there was no recall associated with the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 90,000.

I HAVE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THIS. MY 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OFTEN SURGES. ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WILL CONTINUE AT SAME SPEED OR EVEN ACCELERATE WHEN I LIFT MY FOOT. STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, IT WILL LURCH FORWARD WHEN THE CAR AHEAD OF ME MOVES AND I LIFT MY FOOT. WHEN PARKING, IT WILL RED-LINE WHEN I SHIFT TO NEUTRAL OR PARK. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, BUT HAPPENS THROUGHOUT CERTAIN TRIPS, FROM WHEN I BEGIN TO DRIVE, UNTIL I EXIT THE CAR. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR EVALUATION, THEY SAY THERE ARE NO CODES, SO IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. APPARENTLY IT DID NOT OCCUR DURING THEIR TEST DRIVE. THROUGHOUT NOVEMBER 2019, MY 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT HATCHBACK WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION( VIN [XXX] ) HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A MECHANIC WHO CLEANED EVERYTHING BETWEEN GAS PEDAL AND COMPUTER, AND THE PROBLEM AMELIORATED FOR A WEEK OR SO. NOW THE PROBLEM IS BACK. IN NORMAL DRIVING, LIFTING MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR SOMETIMES SLOWS THE VEHICLE AND OTHER TIMES IT MAINTAINS SPEED OR ACCELERATES. (THIS IS WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED). THE GAS PEDAL STARTED STICKING PARTWAY DOWN, CAUSING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE PRECIPITOUSLY AND THE ENGINE TO REV, EVEN WHEN IN PARK. ONCE, WHEN DRIVING, I SOLVED THE REVVING NOISE BY LITERALLY REACHING DOWN TO THE PEDAL AND YANKING IT BACK UP TOWARDS ME ONCE I STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT. THE REPAIR SHOP NOTED THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM IN HYUNDAI ACCENTS, WITH STORIES OF IT READILY AVAILABLE ONLINE. THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED WHEN THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE GAS PEDAL ASSEMBLY, WHICH CONVENIENTLY WAS IN STOCK AT THE LOCAL WAREHOUSE, SINCE HYUNDAI SEEMS TO KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM. A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT DESERVES A RECALL!!!

THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS IN THE DOWN POSITION AND DOESN'T IMMEDIATELY RETURN TO THE FULLY DISENGAGED POSITION. THIS HAPPENS ANYTIME I PRESS DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, ESPECIALLY IN COLD WEATHER. THE ENGINE STAYS REVED FOR UP TO 3 SECONDS AFTER I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL AND I CAN FEEL THE PEDAL SLOWLY MOVE BACK UP. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PULL IT BACK UP TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. OCCASIONALLY, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL STAY ENGAGED EVEN AFTER I PRESS THE BRAKE, CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD WHEN I RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE WAS CONSTANTLY FLAT WITH THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED HYUNDAI OF ANDERSON, 1925 PEARMAN DAIRY RD, ANDERSON, SC 29625, AND INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO HAVE THE TIRES INSPECTED FOR NAILS. THE TECHNICIAN INFLATED THE TIRES TO THE CORRECT AIR PRESSURE. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE AND TIRE MILEAGE WERE APPROXIMATELY 106,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE FAILED DUE TO BUBBLES EXHIBITED ON THE INSIDE WALL. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT TIRE ALSO FAILED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH. THE REPLACEMENT TIRE, WHICH WAS ALSO A KUMHO TIRE OF THE SAME SIZE, FAILED DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,000.

I PURCHASED A 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT 5 DOOR 03/02/21012 AND DISCOVERED AFTER THE PURCHASE THERE WAS NO SPARE TIRE JUST A REPAIR KIT. I WAS NOT TOLD BEFORE THE PURCHASE. The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH and turning to the right, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the power steering assist module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

The electric power steering (EPS) system in my Hyundai Accent 2012 5-door hatchback intermittently stops and starts working, and when it does not work, a dashboard red EPS light comes on. This problem has been occurring on and off for a few months now. When the system is not working, the car becomes very difficult to steer, especially at slow speeds. The problem seems to occur more frequently in cold weather at start up, occasionally occurs in warmer weather, and often resolves itself after driving the vehicle for awhile, but sometimes starts while driving. Because the problem is intermittent and the strength needed to steer at slow speeds is significant, there is a safety risk. Because the problem is intermittent, it has not been reproduced by a dealer or service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer but I plan to have them do this when I take the car in for other recall work. This problem sounds very similar to the one triggering a recall in Hyundai Elantra vehicles in 2015 (recall number 127). I see from online reports that other Hyundai Accent owners and owners of other Hyundai vehicles reporting similar issues and I wonder whether Hyundai should be required to recall all vehicles with similar EPS systems to fix this issue. WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I NOTICED THE STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY LOOSE. I WAS TRAVELING AROUND 65 MPH IN A STRAIGHT LINE SECOND LANE TO THE RIGHT ON A FIVE LANE HIGHWAY - NO PUDDLES OR WATER ON THE PAVEMENT AND ALL OF SUDDEN THE CAR LOST CONTROL BETWEEN THE STEERING AND THE TIRES. I BEGAN TO SWERVE MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAD TO FIGHT THE CAR FROM SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL BY PRESSING THE BREAKS AND MANEUVERING THE STEERING MANY TIMES TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE THE CAR WAS SWERVING TO. I WAS NOT AROUND MANY CARS AND THANKFULLY DID NOT HIT ANYONE AND WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO AFTER REPEATED LOSES OF CONTROL TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY OFF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS NOT DAMAGED. I CALLED FOR HELP AND WHEN FAMILY ARRIVED THEY NOTICED THAT THE TIRES WOULD STOP AFTER I WOULD TURN THE STEERING EVENTUALLY, BUT THE STEERING WOULD CONTINUE ROTATING 2 TO 3 TIMES MORE EVEN WHEN THE TIRES WHERE LOCKED. BECAUSE OF THIS I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND REQUESTED A TOW TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM 6 YEARS EARLIER. AFTER THEIR MECHANICS DIAGNOSED THE CAR THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO ME, BUT I ADVISED THAT OTHERS SAW THE ISSUE WITH THE STEERING AND TIRES AS WELL. ONLINE OTHER AFFECTED CONSUMERS HAVE MENTIONED THAT THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO THEM AND WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF IT APPEARS AS IF NOTHING IS WRONG BUT IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN SPONTANEOUSLY. I AM NOT GETTING ANYWHERE WITH THE DEALERSHIP AS THEY THINK I HYDROPLANED BUT I ADVISED I WAS GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE, THERE WAS NO WATER ON THE HIGHWAY, AND THE STEERING WAS LOOSE WHERE OTHER REPORTED THE SAME THING... UNABLE TO OPEN DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO EXIT VEHICLE. I HAVE TO ROLL DOWN WINDOW AND USE EXTERIOR HANDLE TO GET OUT OF VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. MY WARRANTY WAS 2 MONTHS AND 2 DAYS EXPIRED. DEALERSHIP WANTED $140 JUST TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO DO THIS. MY SON REMOVED THE DOOR HANDLE AND FOUND A BROKEN PLASTIC CLIP THAT NORMALLY WOULD ENGAGE AND OPEN THE DOOR. ABOUT 4 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT A 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT NEW, THE REAR PLASTIC BUMPER COVER, IN THE AREA BY THE EXHAUST PIPE, DEVELOPED A 2-INCH OR SO CRACK WITH NO SEEMING CAUSE. I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING, AND NOTHING HIT ME. I'M ASSUMING IT WAS RELATED TO HOT EXHAUST GASES HITTING THE COVER. HYUNDAI DID PAY FOR THE REPAIR. HOWEVER, 3 YEARS LATER, ANOTHER SIMILARLY SIZED CRACK HAS DEVELOPED IN THE SAME AREA. AS YOU KNOW, IN MANY CARS THE EXHAUST PIPE EXTENDS BEYOND THE REAR BUMPER. SO, IN THOSE CARS, THE REAR BUMPERS DON'T GET HIT BY HOT EXHAUST GASES. THAT'S NOT THE CASE WITH THE 2012 ACCENTS. PERHAPS HYUNDAI NEEDS TO EXTEND THE EXHAUST PIPE BEYOND THE BUMPER. FOR THOSE WHO THINK MAYBE A ROCK DID THE DAMAGE IN BOTH CASES---MY FRONT PLASTIC BUMPER (LIKE YOUR FRONT BUMPER) ROUTINELY/OCCASIONALLY GETS HIT WITH LITTLE PEBBLES AND ROCKS THROWN AT IT BY OTHER CARS IN FRONT OF ME, BUT THAT BUMPER HAS NO CRACKS, JUST LITTLE NICKS IN THE PLASTIC. THE COMPANY REP WON'T ADMIT THAT THEY USED CHEAP PAINT OR DIDN'T THINK ABOUT THESE "HIGH TRAFFIC" AREAS WHEN DECIDING TO USE INFERIOR NON-DURABLE PAINT ON THESE PARTS. I received a recall notice in October for my 2012 Hyundai Accent. According to the recall, my car is safe to drive but should not be parked in my garage or near my home due to fire risk. The letter said a remedy would be available as of 11/21. It is now 11/29 and there's still no remedy available. Because I'm in upstate NY, the temperature has plummeted and my car is having a harder time starting in the morning since I can't park it in our garage. I'm putting in a complaint due to the fact that the manufacturer has failed to remedy this safety recall in a timely manner.

AT 33,000 MILES THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED BUT I THOUGHT THIS WAS ACCEPTABLE MILEAGE FOR LOW PROFILE TIRES. THEN ONE YEAR LATER AT 58,000 MILES, THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN, NOW AT 77,000 MILES, THE TIRES ARE GETTING TO A POINT OF REPLACEMENT AGAIN. THE TIRE WEAR IS EXCESSIVE ON THE REAR OF THE CAR. THE TIRES ARE ROTATED EVERY 6,000 MILES AND KEPT PROPERLY INFLATED. EACH TIME THE TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. THE PRINTOUT I HAVE INDICATES THE REAR OF THE CAR IS OUT OF ACCEPTABLE SPECS. I LET HYUNDAI PERFORM THE LAST ALIGNMENT AND THEY DID NOT MENTION ANY REPAIRS WERE NEEDED AND WOULD NOT LET ME KEEP A COPY OF THE ALIGNMENT PRINTOUT. I RECENTLY HAD ANOTHER ALIGNMENT SPECIALIST JUST LOOK AT THE CAR AND HE SUGGESTED I TAKE IT TO A BODY SHOP TO HAVE THE REAR SUSPENSION OF THE CAR REWORKED/REPLACED IN ORDER TO GET THE REAR TIRES CLOSE TO WHERE THEY SHOULD BE LOCATED. IN GOOD WEATHER THERE IS A CONSTANT NEED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE CORRECT LANE. WHILE DRIVE ABOUT 60 MPH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON (02/20/2018). I WENT TO GET THE CODES READ BY A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. THE CODES P050A AND P0326 WERE IDENTIFIED. I HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON WITH THE SAME CODES. WHEN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF. On the [XXX], my 2012 Hyundai Accent caught fire in the engine compartment and engulfed in flames. Right before the fire started, smoke came out of the air vents into the car, causing me to become stifled and choke for several minutes. Smoke was also coming out of the hood. At that point, I lifted the hood and there were flames coming out of the engine. During the past six months prior to the fire, I developed a chronic cough and now believe it might have been attributed to fumes that I have been inhaling through the air vents from my car's engine. My [XXX] mother and [XXX] son have suffered headaches, coughing, sore throat and congestion when riding in my car with the air conditioner turned on. The remains of the vehicle were inspected by the Rockdale County Fire Department after they extinguished the fire. What remains of the car is available for inspection in Rockdale County Ga at a tow yard designated by the Rockdale County emergency rescue team members who assisted me. It was too damaged to tow to my home. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the engine catching fire on [XXX]. Hyundai's current handling of recall 251 is inadequate, posing significant danger to drivers and passengers. Hyundai's remedy for Recall 251 replaces ABS fuse with a lower amperage fuse. While this may prevent fires caused by brake fluid leaks, it disables the ABS, introducing severe safety hazards: •Without ABS, the risk of wheel lockup during heavy braking increases, leading to skidding and loss of control. •ABS reduces stopping distances, especially on slippery surfaces. Disabling it may result in longer stopping distances, raising collision risks. •Drivers accustomed to ABS may not be prepared for how the vehicle behaves without it, potentially leading to improper braking. Federal regulations mandate that all U.S. cars and minivans manufactured in 2012 or later must have four-wheel ABS. By disabling the ABS, Hyundai circumvents this requirement, compromising safety. Despite attempts to communicate these safety issues, Hyundai has shown inadequate response. This suggests a disregard for customer safety and an effort to avoid liability and the cost of providing loaner vehicles or temporary replacements. Hyundai has not offered alternative transportation to affected drivers. Given these safety risks and Hyundai's inadequate response, we urgently request NHTSA to: 1.Ensure Recall 251 Remedy does not compromise safety by disabling the ABS. 2.Hold Hyundai accountable for maintaining four-wheel ABS in affected vehicles. 3.Require Hyundai to develop a safer recall remedy that: oFixes the Root Cause: Properly addresses the brake fluid leak to eliminate the fire risk without compromising the ABS. oMaintains ABS Functionality: Ensures the ABS system remains fully operational. oProvides Safety Support: Advises vehicle owners not to drive affected vehicles until the new remedy is implemented and provides loaner vehicles or temporary replacements. We urge the NHTSA to take immediate & decisive action to compel Hyundai to develop a safer, more effective solution.

ON SATURDAY MARCH 23, 2019 I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE LEFT HAND LANE, ON CRUISE CONTROL, GOING ABOUT 73 MPH. A SEMI-TRUCK IN THE RIGHT HAND LAND A FEW HUNDRED YARDS IN FRONT OF ME MOVED OVER INTO MY LANE DUE TO A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AHEAD, SO I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF MY CRUISE CONTROL TO SLOW DOWN FOR THE MERGING SEMI-TRUCK. I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT MY CAR DID NOT TURN OFF CRUISE-CONTROL OR SLOW DOWN, BUT INSTEAD ACCELERATED. I ATTEMPTED AGAIN TO HIT THE BRAKES TO TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL, BUT AGAIN THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I TRIED BOTH THE CANCEL AND THE ON/OFF BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT THERE WAS NO WAY TO DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL. I WAS QUICKLY APPROACHING THE SEMI-TRUCK AND WAS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN MY MOVING VEHICLE. IN ORDER TO AVOID REAR-ENDING THE SEMI-TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I WAS FORCED TO VEER LEFT OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE SOFT SHOULDER, AND WAS TRAVELING LOCKED ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 73 MPH HALFWAY ON THE GRASS MEDIAN AND HALFWAY ON THE RUMBLE STRIP OF THE SOFT SHOULDER. THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL SWITCHES WERE STILL NOT WORKING, REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH I APPLIED THE BRAKES OR WHAT COMBINATION I HIT THE SWITCHES. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET MY CAR TO SLOW DOWN BY HITTING THE CLUTCH AND STALLING MY CAR. THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC INCIDENT, AND I AM LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN UNINJURED AND TO HAVE AVOIDED WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE AND TAPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN AND REV UP TO 1,500-2000 RPM WITHOUT PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR. EVEN WHEN BRAKING. RETURNING THE CAR TO NEUTRAL CAUSES THE ENGINE TO REV UP TO OR BEYOND 2,000 RPM UNTIL THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. THIS INCIDENT FIRST OCCURRED IN APRIL 2016. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SENSORS BY THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THE ISSUE RESURFACED AGAIN IN JANUARY 2017. THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO A CARBON BUILDUP IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. NOW IT'S DOING IT AGAIN. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO HYNDAI'S ON THE INTERNET. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.

IF YOU DEPRESS THE CLUTCH, AGAIN IT WILL RUN UP TO 5000-6000 RPM. THE PROBLEM BECOMES EXACERBATED IN WARMER WEATHER AND LESSENED IN COLD WEATHER. DURING THE 12/24 HEAT WAVE HERE IN PA, THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE AND DANGEROUS AS I COULD NOT DEPEND ON IT NOT "TAKING OFF". I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND FIND A CODE. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THE CODE AND THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED APPLYING A PATCH TO THE KNOCK SENSOR AND, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER "SEE WHAT HAPPENS". THE DEALER PERFORMED THE PATCH AND RELEASED THE VEHICLE TO ME. THE VERY NEXT DAY I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER WORK ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ODOMETER WENT FROM 3000RPM'S TO 0. WHILE I COULD TRY TO ENGAGE THE ACCELERATOR AND COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REV NO RPMS REGISTERED. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO AN IDLE STATE AND WOULD NOT REACT. CAUSING MANY NEAR ACCIDENTS I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER BEFORE IT BECAME STATIONARY. The contact stated that after the vehicle was occupied and parked in the residence, the contact started the vehicle to let the engine warm up went inside his home then returned outside from his home and noticed the engine was burning. The contact opened the hood of the vehicle to see where the fire was coming from and turned the vehicle off. The contact grabbed the water hose and attempted to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful.  The contact mentioned he did call 911. I am so stressed about this mess the service manager is trying to provide us a loaner but we are waiting what I would like to happen if it cannot be repaired I would like a check for the difference so I can buy another vehicle like a buyback. I received this notice of a safety recall for my 2012 Hyundai accent in late October. Hyundai stated that a remedy would be available in late November. Now it's late December, and I've heard nothing from Hyundai. This safety recall sounds urgent and incredibly dangerous; I don't feel safe driving or parking my vehicle anywhere because according to them, it can catch fire at any moment. Despite this, Hyundai hasn't provided any more solutions other than parking my car outside, which doesn't solve the issue with driving it and frankly isn't any more safe. Hyundai isn't responding quickly enough at all for how urgent this issue is, even though several vehicle fires and thermal incidents have already occurred due to this very issue. It's ridiculous that they state the vehicle is safe to drive, yet they admit that the vehicle can catch fire while it's being driven. At this point, the government needs to step in and hold Hyundai accountable, for the sake of public safety. They need to be made to provide a solution that actually solves the problem, even if it isn't cheap to do so.

I finally found out why the other day . A tire finally went flat setting with out use . This time when I stuck it in the dunk tank I was able to see tiny bubbles on the back side of the rim. I also noted significate rust. This is a dangerous situation with all the wheels. When wire brushing the wheel to apply Epoxy the hole opened up and immediately deflated. After cleaning the wheel I applied Epoxy but it is only a temporary fix as it needs all the wheels replaced. I am [XXX] and have owned a lot of cars and this is the first I have seen wheels rust through. I have a 48 Willys jeep with original wheels and it has been outside all its life and the wheels are still good. THIS HAS GONE ON SINCE APRIL OF 2012 AND THE CAR WAS JUST A FEW MONTHS OLD WITH APPROXIMATELY 8,000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT DID ABOUT $ 8000.00 DOLLARS IN DAMAGE WHICH WAS NEVER REPAIRED RIGHT UNTIL ALFA INSURANCE COMPANY IN ALABAMA SENT US TO THE BEST BODY MAN AROUND AND HE REPLACED THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE OUTER PANELS AND ALL OF THE UNDERSIDE SUPPORTS AND MATCHED THE PAINT PERFECT. WE PURCHASED A 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT ON OCTOBER 19, 2011. FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY WE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WHERE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT BRAKE AT TIMES AND WOULD HAVE BOUTS OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. FROM THE FIRST DAY OF PURCHASE WE ADVISED THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND EVEN BROUGHT IN OUR VEHICLE TO BE LOOKED AT. THEY REFUSED TO DO ANY KIND OF DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID THAT I WAS BEING A PARANOID WOMAN AND NEW MOMS TEND TO WORRY TOO MUCH. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BOTH DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE AND EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. WE ADVISED HYUNDAI, THE DEALERSHIP AND OUR INSURANCE COMPANY OF THE ISSUE. EACH TIME WE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP THE ACTED VERY CAVALIER AS IT WAS "NOT A BIG DEAL" AND WOULD SEND US ON OUR WAY. WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH IT HAPPENING AND THEY PLAYED WITH THE SWITCH TO GET THEM TO SHUT OFF AND TOLD ME I HAD NO CLUE HOW TO WORK MY LIGHTS, THAT MY DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS WERE ON, AND WHEN I INFORMED HIM MY CAR DIDN'T HAVE THEM, HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME. I KEPT GOING BACK AND EVEN HAD MY LAWYER GET INVOLVED SINCE THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THERE WERE EVEN TIMES WHEN I STARTED MY CAR WITH THE REMOTE START AND THE HIGH BEAMS CAME ON THEMSELVES, AND I DROVE ALL THE WAY HOME WITH NO OTHER EXTERIOR LIGHTS ON SINCE I HADN'T REALIZED THE LIGHTS WEREN'T ON, SINCE THE HEADLIGHTS HAD BEEN ON. FINALLY WENT TO A SHOP THAT THEY WORK HAND IN HAND WITH TO INSTALL REMOTE STARTERS AND REMOTE DOOR UNLOCKS, AND THEY HAD TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM THAT THE LIGHTING SWITCH WAS BAD. BEFORE THEY WERE CALLED, THEY TOLD MY LAWYER I PAID BOTTOM DOLLAR FOR MY CAR AND I MIGHT AS WELL SUBMIT A LEMON LAW REQUEST, BUT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO FIX IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED A FORD ESCAPE AT UNDER 20 MPH. THE HYUNDAI SUSTAINED EXTENSIVE FRONT END AND ENGINE DAMAGE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND NOT REPAIRED. THE OTHER VEHICLE RECEIVED MINOR REAR BUMPER DAMAGE. THE AIR BAGS ON THE HYUNDAI DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE DRIVER HIT HER FOREHEAD AND RECEIVE A BRUISED BUMP THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. *TR
