What's wrong. Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.

Risk. Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.

Fix. Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

Steering:electric Power Assist System15V100000

What's wrong. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Elantra vehicles manufactured June 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010, and 2009-2010 Elantra Touring vehicles manufactured November 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010. The electronic power steering (EPS) electronic control unit (ECU) may sense a discrepancy in the steering input signals and, as a result, disable the steering power assist.

Risk. If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix. Hyundai will verify the proper operation of the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and update the EPS control unit, free of charge. The recall began April 14, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 127.

Structure:frame And Members14V310000

What's wrong. Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Elantra Touring vehicles manufactured December 15, 2009, through May 7, 2012. The affected vehicles have a support bracket attached to the headliner that may become displaced during a side curtain airbag deployment.

Risk. If the headliner support bracket makes contact with an occupant during a crash, it may cause a laceration injury.

Fix. Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will apply adhesive strips to the headliner, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 117.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic:antilock/traction Control/electronic Limited Slip:control Unit/module20V061000

What's wrong. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2007-2010 Elantra and 2009-2011 Elantra Touring vehicles. On February 21, 2020 Hyundai expanded the recall to include 46,425 model year 2007-2008 Entourage and 2007 Santa Fe vehicles. Moisture may enter the Anti-lock Brake (ABS) Module and result in an electrical short.

Risk. An electrical short within the ABS Module may cause an engine compartment fire, even when the car is turned off, increasing the risk of an injury.

Fix. Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay in the vehicle's main junction box to prevent the risk of an ABS short-circuit while the car is turned off, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 188.

I'm requesting nhtsa to investigate failures of several systems of hyundai elantra 2010: simultaneously failed/unresponsive braking, lurching/acceleration despite trying to push brake pedal, &failed power steering causing unsafe situation and accident in which air bags also failed to deploy despite 2 impacts to front end but form only allowed 3 parts of car affected. My husband pulled out of our garage front first @approx. 1-2 mph. When he tried to brake at end of driveway/check for oncoming traffic before entering road to park in front of our house. The hyundai elantra had its steering lock up while driving at a low rate of speed as it was on an approach ramp preparing to merge on to wi state highway 441 in the town of menasha, wi. This caused the car to go into the guardrail since the steering would not respond. The accident occurred at noon on a clear day on dry pavement. Witnesses to the accident indicated that the steering did not respond before the vehicle crashed into the guardrail. Luckily there were no injuries to the driver other than minor bruises. No other car was involved in the accident.we filed a complaint with hyundai after the incident but they did not come out to examine the car until after it had been repaired. Earlier this year we received a notice that this same steering defect was covered by the recall announcement. The car was repaired as part of this recall. Hyundai has continued to deny any flaw that could have caused this accident.

I was traveling south on i85 south approaching the exit 17 where i had planned to exit, as i began to apply the brake the engine was racing, and the vehicle continued to accelerate, i could not stop the vehicle, i turned right onto the exit, the vehicle did not slow down, i could not make the complete turn, i fractured my left thumb, and broke the steering wheel while trying to avoid crashing into some trees that were in the path of the vehicle, i continued to try to stop the vehicle but it kept going; i ended up crashing into an embankment just a couple of feet off of the ramp road on i85 north. Upon the impact of the vehicle crashing into the embankment the airbag exploded like a balloon and then deflated, it did not protect my body from the impact, i experienced back fractures, hemoperitoneum, and bowl perforation from the seat belt, i fractured my left thumb while steering the vehicle, i was hospitalized for 9 days, and received surgery on my bowel. The body shop while writing an estimate started the vehicle and discovered that the accelerator is still stuck (electronic throttle control). I did contact hyundai and sent them authorization to inspect the vehicle, however after reading about the electronic throttle control, and the problems of other drivers have experienced with the component, i decided to contact your office. I don't want hyundai to tamper with the vehicle and alter or destroy the condition of the vehicle and change the status of the accelerator in its present state. Is it possible for you to inspect the vehicle? I am concerned that other drivers of these vehicles may encounter the same problems, i was blessed because it could have been fatal, and had the on coming vehicles arrived seconds earlier there could have been multi a car crash. My car catched on fire after my steering wheel light keep coming on and off and my Abs and break light was on couple days before it catched fire .

2010 Elantra Touring

I experienced a crash with this vehicle when the steering failed (as indicated in the recall notice nhtsa code 15v100000). I communicated this failure to hyundai at the time this occurred but they denied that there was any issue with the steering. Hyundai has subsequently acknowledged this problem with a formal recall notice. Their failure to address this when notified of this problem is an example of product negligence.

2010 Elantra Touring

The original steering wheel on this car has been cracking and now is disintegrating in my hands. Slowly but surely it is posing to be an issue with sharp edges which has cut my hand. I believe if this keeps going the skeleton of the steering wheel will be exposed. I am attaching pictures of this. I have talked to hyundai consumer affairs they informed me that there is nothing they can do. I believe this is due to inferior material used in the construction of the steering wheel.

2010 hyundai elantra: recently experienced a vehicle fire. It occurred on tuesday, december 29, 2020. . I parked my vehicle on the street per usual and maybe 15 minutes after arriving home from work my mother began yelling that was my vehicle was in flames! I opened the front door and saw it was indeed in flames and popping and smoking. I immediately called 911 whom sent out the fire department. After they were able to distinguish the fire, they determined the cause to be electrical in nature considering the battery of the vehicle was completely gone. I have the case number as well. My vehicle was turned off and parked and randomly caught fire. Thankfully i wasnt in it when it happened or things could have beem alot worse. But i am now without a vehicle and on top of that i had to pay to get the vehicle removed from my apartments property.

In october 2010 my 6-month old hyundai elantra touring caught fire after sitting in my driveway for nine hours. The vehicle was completely totaled. My insurance company (geico) secured the car and hired a forensic engineering company (down forensic engineering, inc., cary nc) to investigate the origin of the fire. Down concluded that the fire was electrical and originated in the engine compartment. Hyundai motor america conducted its own inspection, which did not conclusively determine the cause or origin of the fire. Hyundai motor america did, however, offer to reimburse my insurance policy deductibles and to pay me $500 for goodwill, but has refused to replace the vehicle or reimburse me for any other expenses related to the fire. As far as i know, hyundai motor america has not issued a recall or tsb on the car. I have refused to accept hyundai motor americas offer.

While my wife, linda, was driving less than 1-2 mph, turning into a parking space, all of a sudden, the engine started racing and leaped forward. Hitting the brakes had no effect on stopping the vehicle. She desperately turned the wheel to miss parked cars, a steel pole was hit and torn out of the ground by the runaway vehicle. Finally the car came to rest after hitting a large concrete light pole, which must have stalled out the engine. My wife was in a state of shock and had to go to the hospital for tests / xrays. Even with the seat belt on, she received major impact from the steering wheel to her chest.

December 4, 2021 while driving to San Diego, CA, interstate 8W, Hyundai started jerking and pulling very hesitant. I took the car to my mechanic on December 13th and he informed me that the transmission had a slippage problem! Shifting from 1st to 2nd and then again from 4th gear! I have a significant defect and safety issue with my 2010 Hyundai Elantra that should be recalled by Hyundai. There seems to be a problem with the automatic gear shifter. The first issue is intermittent where the car does not turn on or even make a clicking noise when I try to turn the key in the ignition. This might make you think the battery is dead, but that is not the case. After a while of turning the car on and off, the car will eventually start. The second issue is that the gear shifter gets stuck and will not shift from one position to another. After much difficulty in getting it unstuck and shifting, the third and most significant problem is that the indicator as to which gear the car is in is not reflecting the actual gear that the car is in. This presents a real safety issue as the indicator will say that the car is in Park, but the car will roll like it is in neutral so the only way to get this to stop is to put on the emergency break while parked. Shifting into a position that you think you’re in, but not actually in, can result in hitting a pedestrian or another car. In rare instances, the car will actually shift into the correct position indicated by the gear shifter while it is in Park. You can find numerous results if you do a google search on the internet for the issues I’ve described above in Hyundai cars. Since the gear shifter is not working properly and is getting stuck, I feel this presents a significant safety issue should I need to get out of the way quickly in either a Drive or Reverse position or if I am expecting to be in a Park position and the car keeps moving.

The transmission slips when trying to accelerate and on inclines - losing power to the wheels (feels like you are in neutral, and the rpm's go way up). A very scary and dangerous feeling when merging onto a highway for instance. The car has been well maintained and had the transmission fluid replaced per schedule. As seen from others, this is a common complaint for this vehicle. Nhtsa should order a recall. Have also noticed a clunking noise when coming to a hard stop.

2010 hyundai elantra hesitates and jerks when accelerating. This happened intermittently after a year or two after buying it brand new. At 160,000, it happens more frequently. This happens at about 30 to 40 miles an hour (sometimes higher while on highway). It happens on city street or highway. I have seen many complaints online about this and do not understand why it is not a recall.

My transmission jerks when it changes gears and also when i put the car in reverse. I got the car from a hyundai dealership and told them that there was a slight jerk in the transmission and the sales guy lied to me and said it was a cvt transmission and that they all do that. I went to a few transmission shops and the guys laughed at me because my car doesn't have a cvt transmission. They all did a tran scan and nothing came up on the scanner. The shops are trying to charge me hundreds of dollars just to open up the transmission to see what's wrong with it. It's so wack to be paying a car note on a car with a bad transmission. I looked online and found out that this is a common issue with this model of the elantra and don't understand why there isnt a recall.

I have a 2010 Hyundai elantra. Two times in the last 3 months I was driving and for no reason at all my car would rev up and my speed would accelerate. In October this happened I was so scared that I quickly turned into a gas station and was hit by another vehicle. The next time it happened I was lucky on the road that wasn't busy and I was able to just take my foot off the gas until it returned to normal. After that I had no more issues until about 2 weeks ago. I was driving around 30 miles an hour when the engine just shuts down. But the power was still there. I honestly don't know how to explain it. first I tried pressing the gas pedal nothing happened no movement, no sound, nothing. So I put the car and park because it was still in drive. After that I tried restarting car and it sounded like it wanted to start but it wouldn't. Try it again nothing. thinking it was a bad connection to the battery I got out and checked battery and terminals. It looked fine and I had no way of testing so I had to push my vehicle out of the street. Luckily Two Gentlemen came over and help me push. Thinking still it was just the battery I called roadside assistance and someone from the company came and tried jump starting my car with no luck. I ended up having to get my car towed. Next day I tried starting with no luck. Try it again yesterday and it makes this fast ticking or clicking noise automatically before I even try to start it and it doesn't stop until I turn off the key. And the worst part about all this is I'm not even in the town I live I'm at a friend's house sitting an hour and a half away from my apartment. I can't bring to a mechanic because it doesn't drive and I don't have the money to fix it. I won't be able to have Christmas with my family because of this issue. I'm honestly just dumbfounded I don't have a clue of what to do or what happened. Please file a report so no one else ends up in my situation if you could provide any help in this matter I would be grateful

As the brakes were applied when slowly (<10 miles/hr) turning into a parking place in a parking lot of a strip mall perpendicular to the side walks (double sidewalk separated by a railing) in front of the stores, the car suddenly accelerated thru the parking space and up on the first sidewalk (it did not respond to the brake pedal pressure to slow) and knocked down the railing separating the first and second side walks. The driver pulled up on the handbrake to stop the car before it crossed the second side walk and crashed into the barbershop thus preventing further damage and no injury.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a possible airbag/SRS system failure involving a Hyundai vehicle. On May 26, 2026, the vehicle was involved in a severe front-end collision resulting in major structural damage to the front end, including the hood, bumper reinforcement, radiator support, and engine compartment. Despite the significant impact damage, none of the airbags deployed, including the driver or passenger frontal airbags. The collision was serious enough that the occupants could have suffered severe injury or death. Based on the extent of the damage, I believe the airbag system, crash sensors, or airbag control module may have malfunctioned or failed to operate properly. Photos documenting the damage are available. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this incident for potential safety defects involving: * Airbag non-deployment * Crash sensor failure * SRS system malfunction * Airbag control module defects I am also requesting review of whether similar complaints or investigations exist involving this Hyundai model or related vehicles.

The plastic chrome on the inside passenger door handle is "delaminated" and a razor sharp edge is exposed. When i reached across the seat (from the drivers side) to open to passenger door, the sharp edge deeply cut my finger which had to have pressure for about three hours before it would stop bleeding. This car only has 27k miles and rarely sees someone in the passenger seat so this is not due to extensive use as stated in previous recalls for this problem. If the problem was identified and recalled in 2009 then why is it still a problem in 2014? This car was in for service and a non-related warranty fix last month and nothing was said about this problem (and subsequently, the dealer was not inspecting for this problem). *tr

I was driving my car to a doctors appointment when i was making a turn into the parking lot the steering wheel would not move and the eps light came on. I struggled to park the car and after my dr. Appointment called my husband and he drove the car to brandon hyundai where i purchased the car they took the car in and we got a rental car. They replaced column & shaft assy-steerin 56310-2h250 and bolt-safety lock 81919-31000 qty 2 work order says found steering column shorted out replace module, test ok 731sz recall 110-31c017r0 - stop lamp switch repl installed 93810-4dr0a-qqh switch assy-brake pedal qty 1 then there was another time on december 26, 2014 my granddaughter was driving the car and making a right turn from a two lane road onto a two lane road where cars where stopped at a red light when the steering wheel would not turn and the eps light came on and she hit 2 cars that were at the light. My car had $6002.36 in damage on it. The unibody on the car had to be pulled and squared and an alignment was also done. Thank god no one was hurt but what are the chances of this happening again only worse. When it was only a little over four (4) months since it was fixed. I am afraid to drive this car. That someone may be killed. *tr

The light eps , (electronic power steering) randomly turns on and my steering wheel would be stiff and i need to put great effort to turn. Sometimes i'll stop and turn off and on the car to remove the eps. Now on 10/11/2020 the eps light stays on. I might have a car that had a recall for 127. Its dangerous to have my car like this.

2010 Elantra Touring

While driving the car became difficult to steer almost resulting in my going off the road, when i go to a place that was safe to stop, i noticed that the eps light was illuminated red, and the esc off light was illuminated yellow. I shut off the car and it the lights went off and remained off during my communte home. When i drove the care yesterday the lights came on at start up and stayed on my commute home. This vehicle is extremely difficult to steer to steer when the lights are illuminated, and unsafe when the power steering cuts off unexpectedly while driving. There are many reports of this problem on the internet, and a recall number #127 has been assigned, but no official recall to date for my vin #.

2010 Elantra Touring

The electronic power steering (eps) electronic control unit (ecu) senses a discrepancy in the steering input signals and, as a result, disabling the steering power assist. My young daughter was driving when this happened which could have caused an accident. I see this has been recalled in certain models of the same year but not our vehicle. Vehicle was in motion and power steering assist was lost, greater effort to steer the vehicle at a low speed.

2010 Elantra Touring

As i was exiting the highway onto a sharp curved off ramp, unexpectedly the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn without warning. This unexpected loss of my power steering almost put me into the roads guard railwhile navigating the off ramp. I was able to regain control and safely pull to the side of the road. I noticed the 'eps' light was on. I shut of my vehicle and tried to trouble shoot it, which i was unable to do. I restarted the vehicle and the light went off and my sterring returned to normal power steering mode. The second time this happened my wife was driving the vehicle to the dealership so they could troubleshoot the eps issue, again the vehicle lost power steering with the eps light turning on. The vehicle is being taken to hyundai of slidell for diagnostic testing. The dealer also stated that the vin was excluded from a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 15876848 the approximate failure mileage was 148,000.

This light came of shortly after purchasing the car and after 15 mins of driving it everytime seems to cone up ive tried pressing the off button for it but that doesnt work the car seems to steer itself at times along with occasional break problems... I tried to answer yes to it had been in a wreck but didnt know any of the required information following that because i dont know anything about the wreck since it happened during the possesion of its previous owner all i was told is that it had been in a wreck during purchase

2010 Elantra Touring

The esc light comes on intermittently and stays on for longer periods of time. The dealer has replaced the steering rack, reprogrammed the system and the light continues to come on.

2010 Elantra Touring

59,600 miles in car. Parked car for night, next morning turned vehicle on and eps and esc off lights were on. Vehicle had no power steering and was hard to turn if not moving. Recall on eps software was done 11 months ago. Took to dealership where problems were diagnosed as bad sensors. That's not bad until they tell you sensors themselves cannot be replaced and you need to have a complete new steering column installed at $2,500. Yes the car is 8 years old, but only 59,600 miles. Looking at complaints, this is a problem hyundai should address.
