While driving at approximately 70MPH on the highway, my 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited suddenly locked up with no warning lights, no noise and no prior symptoms. The engine completely seized, causing immediate loss of power. I was barely able to coast off the highway exit to a final stop on the feeder shoulder, in a desolate area. The vehicle has always been properly maintained and is in excellent condition. Upon research, I learned that Hyundai has known of internal engine defects caused by metallic debris left from manufacturing since 2010, which can cause bearing failure and engine seizure. My Tucson's failure matches the same pattern described in Hyundai's Theta II engine recall and warranty extension campaigns. This sudden failure created an extremely dangerous situation at highway speed and possibility of injury while being stranded on an open road. Many owners, myself included, were never properly notified of the risks. I am filing this report because this incident represents a serious safety defect and potential recurrence among similar vehicles that may not yet be covered by recall. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue and ensure Hyundai expands its recall and warranty coverage to include affected 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited vehicles exhibiting this defect that was well-known to the Hyundai Corporation. The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was started, and the engine revved abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated while stopped at a stopped sign, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle jerked forward before accelerating. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice; however, the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 94,512.

The engine in my car (Hyundai Elantra gt 2014) basically did everything I read about all the other Hyundai engines doing that are under engine recalls. Years ago it started having misfires, had the catalytic converter or parts of it replaced, sensors, over consuming oil, loud noises when it's lower on oil and eventually it just recently died. Unfortunately it's only 11,000 miles over the extended warranty period to get it replaced. The bad engine stuff basically broke the current catalytic converter and the dealership wants over 10,000 dollars to fix it and replace the engine... not including tax. The worse part is sometime like a year ago I went to a dealership because I had an apt for an oil change. The day before my check engine light turned on. So at the apt while checking in my car I mentioned to the guy taking photos of my car that the check engine light was on and please check it out. I waited two hours for them to give me my keys back and say I didn't make the appointment for the check engine light so they couldn't see what was wrong with it that day. And that had never happened before. At the time I had only been to dealerships to fix my car and The dealerships always agreed to check out the engine light when it was on except for this one time. Felt like I was getting pushed out the door. So I've spent the last year going to other mechanics attempting to fix the check engine light and it always just came back on when I got my car back. Tune ups, spark plugs, cylinder misfires. Elantra GT's are not represented in any of the recall articles I read about online so I felt the need to share my story because I think my car had the same engine as some of the other cars. I got into a car accident because when I hit my brakes, instead of slowing the car down or stopping it. My car start it, skip it and you could feel it in the break like clicking like click boom, click boom, click boom.And then all of a sudden boom, I hit the car in front of me, could it stopped the car at all and I was only going thirty miles an hour

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, there was a loud sound coming from the vehicle and there was smoke coming from under the hood. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact researched online and became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that after waiting approximately two weeks, an appointment was scheduled for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for the recall repair, and the contact was informed that the brake module needed to be replaced but was not included in the recall repair. The contact was informed that the repair would be an out-of-pocket expense. The recall repair was performed; however, the brake module was not replaced. The contact stated that the reason the brake module needed to be replaced was because of the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 173,000.

A safety recall has been issued since September 2023 and still no remedy. The car should not be driven because it could catch fire. There is no time frame for the remedy. What am I suppose to do about transportation now it’s been 6mos I’ve had to borrow a vehicle.

I was involved in an accident where I was rear ended at a high rate of speed and pushed into the vehicle in front of me. I was thrown forward, hitting my head/left eye on something inside the vehicle. I received significant facial injuries and neck pain. My car was totaled from the impact but not a single airbag deployed. I cannot believe this is how airbags are intended to function, why have them if they are not going to deploy in a situation like this!

I PURCHASED MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA IN 2018 FROM A DEALER IN GILBERT. THE VEHICLE WAS PRE-OWNED BUT RECORDS DO NOT INDICATE ANY ACCIDENTS. RECENTLY I HAVE STARTED TO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. IT STARTED OUT AS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE BUT NOW THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. I LEARNED THE ILLUMINATED AIRBAG LIGHT MEANS MY AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH. I'VE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH AIRBAGS IN ANY VEHICLE I'VE OWNED. SOME HAVING OVER 300,000 MILES. HYUNDAI HAS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE AIRBAG SYSTEM FAILING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY HYUNDAI AMERICA. I'VE TRIED CONTACTING THEM FOR SUPPORT THRU EMAIL BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that her daughter was driving the vehicle when the failure occurred. While driving on a city road at 25 MPH, a tractor-trailer crossed in front of the contact's lane. The contact stated that her daughter immediately reacted by taking a sharp left turn in order to avoid a collision. However, upon attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brakes failed to engage, therefore causing the contact to crash into a utility pole. The front passenger side of the contact's vehicle was crashed upon impact with the utility pole, and the vehicle came to a stop upon impact. No property damage was reported. The airbags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to a local body shop. The Traction Control Warning light was illuminated. A police report was filed. No injuries were reported. No one outside of the vehicle was injured. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,300.

I submitted an online repair request to Capitol Hyundai of San Jose for ABS Fuse Replacement (XXX) Recall Code: 251. However, their website shows no available appointment dates in 2024, 2025, or 2026. My concern was that not having any repair appointment slots available for this recall amounted to a refusal to perform the recall work. I submitted a complaint to Hyundai Consumer Affairs [XXX] ) regarding Capitol Hyundai's refusal to service this recall, but was told the following: "State laws limit our ability to intervene with dealership transactions as each Hyundai dealership is independently owned and operated. We recommend you contact the manager of the service department or the General Manager of the dealership at (408) 445-1500 to discuss your concerns with there not being any availability at their location." In other words, Hyundai Consumer Affairs said that it could not require that Capitol Hyundai perform the recall work. I am concerned that Capitol Hyundai of San Jose is refusing to repair my vehicle by blocking all appointment dates related to this recall. The ABS module accordingly has been recalled this vehicle show no sign of ABS fluid leak, though can potentially. The Hyundai Manufacturer has not devised a solution to this hazzard. Hyundai has been given a reasonable amount of time to devise a solution to this recall.

I OWN A 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA LIMITED. IT HANDLES NORMALLY WHEN IN TOWN DRIVING BUT WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE VEERS SLIGHTLY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND YOU CANNOT KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT IN CENTER. IT IS HARD TO MANEUVER AS THE STEERING APPEARS TO STICK IN EITHER POSITION AS YOU FIGHT TO KEEP IT IN THE CENTER OF THE ROAD. IT STICKS MORE TO THE LEFT THAN TO THE RIGHT. I AM AMAZED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THESE CARS BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY HYUNDAI'S HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I CANNOT PUT A SPECIFIC DATE ON THE INCIDENT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DOES THIS ALL THE TIME WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY SO I JUST PICKED THE DATE THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A DEALER.

THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN YOU TRY TO TURN INTO A CURVE YOU HAVE TO BE VERY FORCEFUL WITH TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH LEADS TO EITHER ENDING UP IN THE OTHER LANE OR IN THE DITCH. A significant class action settlement, known as the Hyundai Engine II Class Action Settlement, was established to address allegations of engine defects in various Hyundai models. This settlement includes vehicles equipped with the Nu 2.0-liter GDI engine, such as the 2014–2020 Elantra GT. The lawsuit claimed that these engines could suffer from issues like engine seizure, stalling, and potential engine fires. My vehicles engine is the engine listed above and has been experiencing those exact problems. My engine has been stalling and making a knocking noise. A professional mechanic evaluated my vehicle and diagnosed it with first stage engine failure. Engine failure of any kind while driving is extremely dangerous and could lead to sudden stopping on a highway, collision, and result in the loss of life of both the driver and other drivers sharing the road. In addition to the Engine II settlement, there was a separate class action settlement related to the Theta II engines, which are also found in some Hyundai vehicles. This settlement addressed allegations of engine defects that could lead to engine failure. Hyundai Motors is refusing to honor their warranty coverage for my vehicle. They claim their refusal is due to my vehicle having a rebuilt title, however, nowhere on their website or per any other guidelines do they explicitly deny coverage for rebuilt title vehicles. They clearly state that only salvage titles and 'total loss' vehicles will not receive any warranty assistance, which my vehicle was never considered a total loss. Additionally, when speaking to a Bob Howard Hyundai representative, they informed me that they have previously honored warranties for people in my exact situation. The engine in my 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT is the original engine with a matching VIN number and the engine failure is strictly due to the malfunction of said part produced by Hyundai Motors. I have maintained and preformed regular maintenance on this vehicle with receipts.

I believe there was an electrical issue. While driving the car started smoking and my daughter pulled over and the there was fire coming from the engine and after that it just engulfed in flames. Fire was also coming from underneath when 1st started.

Car has shut off while driving twice. Engine was replaced in 2021 for the same issues. First incident occurred while attempting to park after driving 40mins Second incident occurred while at a red light. The car also has problems starting up.

I was out running errands and I was taking a break Midway through the day and I had the seat laid back and the car was off the key wasn't even turned forward and I just started to fall asleep when I started feeling something get really hot I opened my eyes and the car was full of thick black smoke so I swung the door open and with all the smoke went out my passenger seat was on fire on the bottom of the seat I burned my hand really bad in the process of trying to put it out which I have some lawyers working on getting me compensated for all this but it seems to have started in the seat heater all of the wires for the seat heater are all melted and you can clearly see how they started to catch the foam on fire I also googled it and there's been a few other cases of people's Hyundai's catching on fire sitting in their driveway and it started in the seat on their cars too I think I'm the first person that's actually been hurt by it though my hand was burned so bad that the hospital wanted me to go to the burn center I was not able to go to the burn center for financial reasons and work reasons which it ended up putting me out of work anyways I still don't have a feeling in three of my fingers on the ends of them and this whole situation really screwed things up for me and it almost killed me.

When stopping at a light or parking lot, the car seems to struggle and shuts off. When I turn the engine on, the car struggles to start up and all of the car dash board lights tend to cut off with no warning sounds. I Installed new battery, changed the oil and had a repair shop look over the car and was told nothing was found.

I'VE HAD TROUBLE STARTING THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES. ALL LIGHTS WILL WORK FINE, RADIO, POWER LOCKS AND WINDOWS ALL WORK, THE CAR JUST DOESNT START. I HAD IT BROUGHT BACK TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE GUYS IT STARTED UP NO PROBLEM FOR THEM AND THEY COULDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I'VE NOTICED THAT WHEN IT HAPPENS, TAKING THE CAR OUT OF PARK, AND THEN SHIFTING BACK TO PARK SEEMS TO TRIGGER SOMETHING AND THEN THE CAR WILL START. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY

Car engages into drive with a jolt. Sometimes at traffic lights, it just doesn't move forward when brakes are let go & then I have to raise the RPM to 3K+ to bring it back to motion, again with a big jolt. While driving on the freeway or streets, if you slow down, the car might choose not to engage back in up gears until you rev up the RPMs, and again with a big jolt. Took it to a mechanic shop to find out, as per Hyundai Repair Guidelines, if the car is put to drive, brakes on & the input speed in the scan tool shows non-zero value, which means its an internal Tranny failure and Tranny needs replaced. Such a premature failure of transmission. The car only has 130K miles on it & Tranny fluid has been always replaced as per the manufacturer-recommended intervals. And the way the tranny acts when fails on the road, sudden die down & re-engaging with a big jolt, I consider its a safety hazard & should have been recalled by Manufacturer already.

AFTER BEING PARKED OVERNIGHT, SPORADICALLY THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK UPON PRESSING THE BRAKE AND STARTING THE CAR. THE LITTLE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER THAT YOU PUSH IN ORDER TO MOVE OUT OF PARK IS LOCKED AND WHEN PRESSED, EMITS A SOUND COMING FROM THE IGNITION WHERE YOU PUT THE KEY IN. YOU CAN HEAR IT CLICK FROM THE STEERING COLUMN EACH TIME YOU PRESS THE RELEASE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. THEN THE CAR SHIFTS OUT OF PARK NORMALLY. I CANNOT GET THE CAR TO REPLICATE THIS FOR THE MECHANIC, AS IT ONLY HAPPENS EVERY FEW DAYS.

I THOUGHT THIS COULD BE TIRES, BALANCING, OR ALIGNMENT, BUT AFTER DOING MAINTENANCE WITH THOSE THREE THINGS, THE CAR CONTINUES TO SWAY A LOT. WHEN I GO OVER A SMALL BUMP THE CAR SHIFTS TO THE SIDES. UPON FURTHER ONLINE RESEARCH, THERE ARE MANY CAR BLOGS AND COMPLAINS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR STRUTS. Ticking or knocking in the engine, as many other have described. Engine does not accelerator properly due to this issue, causing safety issues with accelerating to merge or enter traffic. Known defect that should be covered by Hyundai as regular scheduled maintenance has been completed.

There is a significant problem with this car where the check engine and dashboard lights flicker on and then the car stalls and loses all power immediately. This has happened multiple times, including on the highway, which was a significant safety hazard. Upon taking the car to a Hyundai dealer, they indicated problems with the engine that require an engine replacement that would cost on the order of $8,000-9,000. Upon further research, we found two class action settlements related to engine problems for Hyundai vehicles of this type/age, but Hyundai says this vehicle is not covered due to mileage of 101,400.

Engine has failed at 67,000 and resembles the 2018 class action lawsuit. Dealership/Hyundai Motor will not fix it because vehicle is not in a "cold weather state" even though it is a known issue in the car. I have had the vehicle for not even four years, the vehicle came from a cold weather state where it spent over half the vehicle life and 1/3 of its miles.

The oil light is blinking and car repeatedly shuts off while driving mostly when going 25-45mph. When it shuts off I have to turn it off take the key out and turn it back on until the next time it happens. This usually occurs within an 20 minutes of driving. My safety was at risk because of other cars behind me going speed limit while car automatically shuts off. Car was bought on carvana no local dealer but have taken it to multiple shops and they are shocked to hear of no recall. The car has not been inspected by police insurance but local mechanic shops. Oil light blinks while driving constantly from start to finish while car shuts off steady oil engine and battery light on.

Check engine light came on due to a leak in the vehicle emission system. The car repeatedly stalled and shut off when the car stopped at lights. The tachometer also failed to register while driving and difficulty accelerating worsened. During inspection of the car a leak of fumes was noted coming from the evaporator canister and once it was removed, a bent and broken connector was noted.

I'M A COLLEGE STUDENT AND WORK PART TIME THIS REPAIR IS TOO EXPENSIVE, THIS IS A PART THAT SHOULD NEVER GO BAD AND ALWAYS BE UNDER WARRANTY, IT SPEAKS TO THE QUALITY OF THE PARTS OF THIS VEHICLE. I noticed a rattling noise while accelerating in second and third gear under my car in the spring. I took it in to a repair shop and they resecured an under tray but otherwise did not seem concerned. The rattling noise continued. After driving on a longer trip on the highway recently the rattling became more frequent and intense, causing the whole car to shake. I also had difficulty accelerating above about 50 mph. I took my car in to a different shop the following day. They discovered that there was a misfire occurring in cylinder 3, causing buildup in the exhaust system (the rattling that I noticed) and which caused the catalytic converter to go bad, which I had to pay to replace. Throughout this entire time, my check engine light never came on, although it illuminated normally when turning on the car. The lack of a warning via check engine light when the misfire began occurring caused the converter to go bad, resulting in a very costly repair for me.

ON THE ELANTRA GT, THERE IS NOTABLE PROBLEM WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. WHEN HOLDING THE VEHICLE IN A TURN TO GO AROUND A CURVE, SUCH AS A HIGHWAY RAMP, THE VEHICLE'S REAR END WILL HOP IF IT HITS A BUMP IN THE ROAD. I IMAGINE THIS HAPPENS WHEN GOING STRAIGHT AS WELL, BUT IS NOT AS NOTICEABLE. WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE, THE BACK AND WILL FISHTAIL SLIGHTLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BECOME UNSTABLE IN ITS PATH. ON DRY ROAD, THIS DOESN'T USUALLY PRESENT A PROBLEM AS TRACTION IS RESTORED QUICKLY. HOWEVER, ON A WET OR SLICK ROAD THE SITUATION COULD PROVE TO BE MORE DANGEROUS. This is with regard to recall 23V651000 which has been active since 9/22/23 and the statement on your website: "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner...file an online complaint with NHTSA." It's been over four months and there's no remedy in sight. I don't consider that timely, particularly since we've been told to park the vehicle outside. In our upper-Midwest environment, that renders our garage worthless in the winter--we're likely to have to scrape the ice off of the windows every morning before using the vehicle.

The piston rings do not seal leading to increased oil consumption and very low oil. My safety was put at risk because when I pulled out into traffic that was going at a high speed I could not accelerate. There was no warning or indication that this was going on prior to this incident. Yes this has been confirmed by a Hyundai dealership and the component was inspected. There was no warning sign before this incident.

BOTH FRONT SEATBELTS ARE DIFFICULT TO LATCH AND DETERMINE IF THEY ARE SECURE. SEVERAL TIMES, THE DRIVERS SEATBELT HAS FAILED TO BE SECURED PROPERLY (COME UNLATCHED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION) DUE TO SHORT LENGTH OF STATIONARY PORTION OF SEATBELT. THE STATIONARY PORTION IS TOO SHORT, AND LOCATED IN A "HOLE" BETWEEN THE DRIVERS HIP AND CONSOLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS OPERATING "AS DESIGNED" AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I ADVISED THEM THAT THEY DESIGNED THE SYSTEM THAT WAS MALFUNCTIONING, AND THEY WERE FAILING TO "OWN THEIR PROBLEM". HYUNDAI HAS REFUSED (IN WRITING) TO REMEDY THIS SAFETY DEFECT. I started to see the oil light on the dashboard and i heard a hard sound from the engine so that i changed the oil then after a couple days i saw the light again on with a little bit high temperature, so stooped by a gas station and i added some more oil after i shut the car off and waited to cool the engine down and i started the car, the oil light was gone and the engine sound was smoother then i started to get the same issue every couple days and i used to fix it the same way and I've had the same experience with my previous car which was the same brand but different year band model which i found a recall on the engine after it blown and the agency or the manufacturer changed the engine for free for that car and the current car has the same issues and it's included in the year range for that recall which from 2012 to 2019, that scares me because i drive everyday for rideshare and that can be dangerous for me and my clients who ride with me, also some of them stopped calling me for rides once they knew about that issue. And today i noticed the car beep which i used to hear when i lock the car with the remote has stopped too.

Good Morning, This model and year of vehicle has had so many defects. I have paid hundreds of dollars over simple vehicle factors that Hyundai Manufacturers should really assess while pushing them to the market. This mode has had many brake light defect all consisting of the electrical wiring. I have changed MANY times the Brie lights bulbs only for them to blowout within a week. This is a roadway safety issue. Worse of all the ENGINE Is Faulty and the vehicles for this specific year tend to seize up or blowout due to the vehicle burning oil WAY BEFORE 3000 miles. I’ve had to change oil now every month because the engine will literally start making a screeching noise under the hood. Only to realize that the car has zero oil yet zero leaks under 1000 miles of driven. The dealership recently changed my oil and filter and after 1,500 miles I realized the engine making this noise for the 3rd time. I have now filed a complaint with their head office, to only have them dismiss me and not care for the safety of others. I am most definitely not the first person that owns this model and has been phasing with this SAFETY problem. Please help us out and investigate this matter. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,556.

The contact was unable to veer to the side of the roadway. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the failure reoccurred while driving in a parking garage. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would be able diagnose the vehicle in several weeks. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the engine oil and the low oil warning light turned went away. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred a month later. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I'm writing out of deep concern and frustration regarding the unrepaired safety recall on my 2014 Hyundai Elantra. Recall #23V651000 warns of an alarming risk of engine compartment fires, yet there's still no fix available from Hyundai. This isn't just a theoretical risk for me. I have no choice but to park my car in a public garage, making the fire hazard much worse. Hyundai's advice to park outside is impossible to follow, leaving me feeling trapped and unsafe. I find it difficult to understand why Hyundai can source parts for new vehicles, yet struggles to prioritize a fix for a potentially life-threatening safety issue affecting existing cars. I urge the NHTSA to take the following actions: * Investigate why this fix is taking so long. People's safety is on the line. * Push Hyundai to find a solution immediately. Each day of delay is unacceptable. * Keep me and other affected owners informed. The lack of updates is adding to the stress. This isn't just about my car. An engine fire in a garage could be devastating. Please act quickly.

My car randomly stalls when driving. I was recently driving the 101 freeway when in the middle of the lane my car stalled while driving roughly 10-15 mph. I noticed in that time my brakes malfunctioned in that when I tried to press on the brakes it did not feel like they were responding. I was able to move over to the shoulder of the freeway thankfully but was panicked an accident was going to happen. I had my car inspected previously in which hyundai said the issues was related to engine coils that had since been replaced and this incident happened after. I currently have my car being inspected by my mechanic to determine possible causes. When the car stalled it flashed the check engine and battery lights on my dashboard.

While driving over the last month, the car shuts off with no warning. There are no check engine or other lights that come on once it shuts down. There does not appear to be any consistency in the occurences, sometimes while idling, sometimes while driving 40 mph. Up until recently, the car would restart once I put it in neutral, but it now does not restart right away.

I was driving the vehicle normally down the highway. When I exited the highway, I came to a stop light and made a complete stop at which point the engine stalled. I restarted the vehicle, the check engine light appeared, but I couldn’t get it to register any RPMs and I was left stranded in a busy intersection until help arrived.

MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL VIRTUALLY LOCK, ONLY ALLOWING ME TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL 2 INCHES, WITH INCREASING DIFFICULTY AFTER THAT RANGE IN EITHER DIRECTION. MAKING SHARPER TURNS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT HAVING TO HARSHLY TUG THE WHEEL ONLY EFFECTIVELY MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL ANOTHER 1-2INCHES WITH EACH TUG. THIS GOES AWAY WHEN TURNING OFF AND ON THE VEHICLE, AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA (THAT I HAD ONLY HAD FOR 3 MONTHS, HAD 1,500 MILES ON THE CAR) HOME FROM THE AIRPORT, HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL SET ON 55 FOR THE PREVIOUS 30 MINUTES, AND I NOTICED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS BRAKING. NATURALLY, I PRESSED THE BRAKE AS WELL TO SLOW DOWN, BUT THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD AS ROCK AND WOULD NOT PRESS IN AT ALL AND THEREFORE I COULD NOT SLOW DOWN AND CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT DISENGAGE. I KEPT TRYING TO PRESS THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD AND WOULD NOT WORK AND CRUISE CONTROL KEPT ACCELERATING. THE HANKOOK H426 TIRES ON THIS CAR ARE EXTREMELY VULNERABLE TO DESTRUCTION CAUSED BY MINOR ROAD HAZARDS SUCH AS STONES AND SHALLOW POTHOLES OR RIDGING IN THE ROADWAY, EVEN WHEN STRUCK AT SPEEDS BELOW 30 MPH. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN MARCH OF 2014 AND HAVE SINCE REPLACED 6 TIRES AT FULL COST. THE LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 1/22/2016 WHILE DRIVING ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD AT LOW SPEED. ON 5/30/14 I PURCHASED A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA CLOSE OUT WITH 54 MILES ON IT. AT 4300 MILES I LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND THE CAR WENT ACROSS 3 LANES OF INTERSTATE 3 TIMES BEFORE I REGAINED CONTROL OF THE CAR. I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND HAD TO "TRADE IT IN" TO GET A DIFFERENT CAR. I LEFT THE DEALER WITH A 2014 ELANTRA LIMITED ON 7/21/14 HAVING TO PAY THEM AN $4500 EXTRA. THE 2014 FELT BETTER ON THE ROAD NOW AT 1300 MILES I START FELLING THE SAME FISH TAILING FEEL WHEN THE CAR IS GOING INTERSTATE SPEED 70MPH. AS I WRITE THIS THE CAR NOW HAS 1944 MILES AND THE CONDITION IS GETTING WORSE. I DRIVE THE SAME INTERSTATE EVERYDAY AND THE ROAD CONDITIONS HAVE NOT CHANGED. This has occurred three separate times, but this report explains what happened during the most recent occurrence. I was driving at 40 mph. The car in front of me hit their brakes, so I lightly tapped my brakes to slow down. When I tapped the gas pedal, the car would not increase speed. The check engine light, oil light, and battery light each turned on simultaneously. The car then stalled completely, but the lights remained on and the car didn’t lose power. I hit the brakes (which were now hard to push down), hit my emergency flashes so that the car behind me would pass me, pulled over to the side of the road, and then I turned off the car. When I turned the car back on, 30 seconds later, all of the lights were off and the car started with no issue.

The positive battery terminal melted from an electrical issue and cannot be fixed due to the model and year of my car. The whole car has fully died and is not functional. My car is available for inspection. The car has only been inspected by a mechanic. The car would have trouble starting and staying on for the last 2 months or so and right before it died it was showing the steering wheel light for 2 days and then all the lights were blinking.

Multiple safety recalls issued for many models of hyundai cars. most recent that affects the 2014 hyundai elantra and other models is faulty ABS system which could result in engine compartment fire while parked or driving. There is no available repair for this problem. I received notice in the mail on 01/03/2024. I noticed that the safety recall was issued in September of 2023. How is it acceptable that I was informed of a serious safety issue 4 months after it was found out? Brake Lights, constantly on. The vehicle, while driving, the brake lights come on and do not turn off. you must force the pedal all the way down, to, sometimes, turn them off. while driving, the lights being on, disables the ECS system, and Cruise Control. while the vehicle is parked and off the lights stay on, unless you depress the pedal, this causes power drains and dead batteries. if the lights do not work, this is a hazard to drive at any time of day. lights will also come on while car is off and has been off for some time.

The brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. The brake switch plunger is not retracted, which caused the transmission to be shifted out of PARK without depressing the brake pedal. This condition increases the risk of a crash. Hyundai is recalled certain 2013-2014 Elantra sedan, coupe and GT vehicles. Hyundai's number for this recall is 170. This campaign expands recall 16V574. The issue here is my vehicle/VIN didn't qualify for this recall because it was made a few months after a specific manufacturing date, although it is a 2014 Elantra. Hyundai announced this recall over 3 years after the manufacturing date so I was confused as to why my vehicle didn't qualify to be repaired by the dealer.

Engine light has been on for almost a year with NO prior failure or issues after car hit a dangerous pot hole in the road which caused coil packs and spark plug replacements. After the repair, the engine light stayed on for almost a year and the car has been taken to multiple shops and a Hyundai dealer & diagnosed by Hyundai same answer of "maybe" leak and gas cap being loose. gas cap has been tightened and even replaced few times. Engine light stays on and no one can figure out why . The battery eventually died months later and when battery was replaced engine light came off and then back on days later. same result from mechanics of not knowing true reason engine light is on. 1 month after battery died alternator went out and no signs of knowing and safety concern because engine light stays on but not indicating true reason. 1 day after alternator went out car begin overheating on and off. the engine alert has still been on and never comes on for true reason which can indicate safety concern. problems within vehicle is starting to rise back to back . The signs of a leak but unaware to find is a safety issue

My car started cutting off while driving no warning lights on. I had a diagnostic test done and they didn’t find anything wrong. I’m so confused about what’s going on with this car but it’s very dangerous to drive on the highway. I have had three service checks on my car and it still cuts off in the middle of traffic. I had my brakes and rotors replaced because everytime I hit a pot hole or bump in the road my brake pad gets hard and I can’t push it to stop but after getting them replaced it still does the same thing.

Car started to shut down with no warning about a month ago. Took it to neighborhood garage and they couldn't figure it out . They called a Hyundai service department and they said they have seen the problem and it is a CR-Sensor. They (Hyundai service dept) sent the part to my garage and they made the repair. Car worked fine until a few days ago when it shut down again with no warning. This can be a serious safety issue if driving on a highway at highway speeds when it shuts down. HOWEVER IT DOES START UP RIGHT AFTER THE ENGINE STOPS .

An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the rings around the engine needed to be replaced and that the vehicle had an oil leak, The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

I own a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. When the accelerator pedal is engaged, the vehicle hesitates and only accelerates to about 20 mph. The vehicle also stalls while at a complete stop and while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed multiple times, but a failure code could not be found. The mechanic cleaned all the sensors; however, the failure was not corrected. The mechanic stated that the throttle body was causing the vehicle not to accelerate and stall while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall and The vehicle was not repaired.

I had my vehicle serviced to diagnose a ticking problem I had. I was told that it's an engine issue & known to Hyundai. As I was traveling 177 miles from home, the engine lost power and failed. Thankfully it didn't cause an accident. My engine has less than 100,000 miles!!! This should not happen and every engine that experiences this ought to be replaced through a recall!! Probably, most people don't even realize this is a problem and let themselves be taken advantage of.

WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT I SMELLED AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. ONCE AT THE RED LIGHT I SAW SMOKE AND IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. I PULLED OVER AND EXITED THE VEHICLE TO SEE THAT THE 3RD TAIL LIGHT WAS SMOKING. I WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. I REMOVED THE LIGHT CASING AND SECURED THE WIRING. TAKATA RECALL ON 9/23/2018, ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER A RAINSTORM (CAR WAS GARAGED DURING STORM) MY CAR WAS IN MOTION AT 40 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE ON A CURVE OF A SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE EXIT I275. ON 11/12/18 HYUNDAI CLAIMED "WE CANNOT AGREE THAT THE ACCIDENT INVOLVED A PRODUCT DEFECT AND ARE DECLINING ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE." A THIRD PARTY MECHANIC WAS THEN CONTACTED, AND FOUND CODE C1555 AND A FAILING VVTI CYLINOID. THERE IS NO RECALL. THERE IS NO WAY TO PROVE THIS CAR IS UNSAFE WITH THE ROUTES I HAVE TAKEN SO FAR. I WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS ANSWER. THE ENGINE OF THIS CAR SHUT OFF AND COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. THE HIGHWAY PATROL WAS NOTIFIED BECAUSE THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE TURNPIKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (JAMES HODGE HYUNDAI, 1330 N MAIN ST, MUSKOGEE, OK, 74401) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE SUN ROOF FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY HEARD OF THE FAILURE, BUT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED IT LOCALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE COMPLETELY DRY AND ROAD SURFACE WAS SMOOTH. HAZARD LIGHTS WERE PUT ON TO WARN OTHER DRIVERS FROM POSSIBLE COLLISION AND I PULLED OVER. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS IN A 3 WEEK PERIOD. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID NO CODES CAME UP AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE DESCRIBED PROBLEM. A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN 2011-2012 FOR SIMILAR ISSUE ON SAME MAKE AND MODEL.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. MY 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA HAS NUMEROUS ISSUES. THE CAR FEELS UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE WHEN A VERY SMALL FLAW MAKES IT SEEM YOU ARE LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT FEELS AS IF THE BACK END IS COMING AROUND AS IF IT IS GOING TO DO A 360 IN THE ROAD. IT ALSO HAS A FEELING IN THE STEERING WHEEL THAT IT WANTS TO LOCK UP AND HAVE TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO WHEEL AND IT FINALLY BREAKS LOOSE BUT FEELS UNCOMFORTABLE AS IF YOU ARE GOING INTO OTHER LANES. IT DOES THIS IN EITHER DIRECTION. SOMETIMES I FEEL THE STEERING IS LOCKING UP AND COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY DIFFERENT REPORTS OF THESE SAME ISSUES AND APPARENTLY HYUNDAI CHARGES OUTRAGEOUS PRICES JUST TO TELL YOU NOTHING IS WRONG. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE CARS AND REALLY NEEDS ATTENTION BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.

THE ESC (TRACTION CONTROL) RANDOMLY COMES ON WHILE CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON STRAIGHT, LEVEL, DRY ROADS (OFTEN ON INTERSTATES). SOMETIMES THE ABS LIGHTS ALSO LIGHT UP. BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND POWER TO THE ENGINE IS SUSPENDED MAKING THE CAN NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL PROPERLY. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP NOW UNDER WARRANTY FOR OVER 60 CONSECUTIVE DAYS AND THE DEALERSHIP AND HYUNDAI CANNOT DETERMINE THE REASON FOR THIS MALFUNCTION. AFTER REPEATED REQUESTS TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND I HAVE ASKED HYUNDAI TO DETERMINE THE RELEVANCE OF THIS REPEATED MALFUNCTION IN THE ACCIDENT WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP QUICKLY ENOUGH TO AVOID ANOTHER MOTORIST. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED USED WITH 20,185 MILES ON IT AND CURRENTLY HAS AROUND 22K MILES AND IS UNDER A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY.

THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR ON MY CAR DIED AFTER ABOUT 78000 MILES AND CAUSED THE CAR TO LOCK UP WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. STAYED IN 3RD GEAR AND FOR A FEW WEEKS BEFORE WOULD LOCK UP WHILE IN PARK, NEUTRAL, REVERSE AND DRIVE (MOST COMMONLY WHILE IN PARK). THIS NEARLY CAUSED A COUPLE OF ACCIDENTS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ELANTRAS DATING ALL THE WAY BACK TO 2007 AND EVEN HAS CONTINUED PAST MY MODEL YEAR (2014) INTO 2015 MODELS. THE DEALERSHIP EVEN REFERRED TO IT ASO A FAULTY RANGE SENSOR WHICH TO ME SEEMS TO IMPLY THAT THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I COULDN'T SHIFT AND HAD A MORE DIFFICULT TIME SLOWING DOWN AND SPEEDING UP THAN USUAL. THE PART IS RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE BUT THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE PLUS LABOR TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE FAULTY MECHANICAL PART WAS WELL OVER $150, RESULTING IN A TOTAL BILL OF $210. A PART FAILURE THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLES COMPUTER, TRANSMISSION AND DRIVETRAIN TO LOSE ALL CONNECTION TO ONE ANOTHER CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. AT FIRST IT HAPPENED ONLY WHILE STATIONARY IN PARK, THE CAR WOULD LOCK UP WHILE SITTING WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING FOR A WHILE. I WOULD TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RE-ENGAGE THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING WOULD OPERATE AS NORMAL. THEN IT OCCURRED WHILE BACKING DOWN THE HILL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, LOCKED UP IN REVERSE, I APPLIED THE BRAKES, SET THE PARKING BRAKE AND TURNED OFF THE CAR WHILE STILL IN REVERSE. (I LIVE IN A QUIET SUBDIVISION OF A SMALL TOWN OF 12,000, WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED IN A BUSIER OR MORE HEAVILY POPULATED AREA?) I WAS STILL ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE WHILE IN REVERSE AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER WHILE IN NEUTRAL. THEN TUESDAY MORNING WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE (I-95) THE GEAR AND DRIVE MODE INDICATOR ON THE TACHOMETER WENT BLANK, I WAS STUCK IN 3RD GEAR (LIMP MODE) AND MY CAR ONCE SLOWING DOWN HAD A DIFFICULT TIME ACCELERATING AFTER STOPPING.

RETURNED HOME FROM WORK AND PARKED VEHICLE IN DRIVEWAY, GOT OUT AND GOT GROCERIES FROM PASSENGER SIDE. WENT INSIDE AND ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES LATER WAS INFORMED BY NEIGHBOR THAT MY CAR HAD ROLLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, ACROSS A 55 MPH STREET, AND THROUGH DITCH INTO NEIGHBORS YARD. WHEN MYSELF AND THREE OTHER PEOPLE APPROACHED THE VEHICLE WE WERE ASTONISHED TO SEE THAT THE E-BRAKE HAD BEEN ENGAGED AND YET THE VEHICLE ROLLED DOWN DRIVEWAY WITH NO SIGNS OF TIRE DRAGGING. IT IS AS IF THE E-BRAKE COMPLETELY FAILED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THERE ARE OTHER HYUNDAI'S OF SIMILAR BUILD RECALLED FOR "PARKING BREAK ISSUES CAUSING DRAGGING WHILE DRIVING AND POSSIBLE ROLLAWAY WHILE PARKED". SADLY HYUNDAI IS NOT HELPFUL BECAUSE MY EXACT CAR DOES NOT HAVE A CURRENT RECALL GOING. I BELIEVE THAT MY CAR HAS AN ISSUE THAT IS A DEFECT OF THE CALIBER THAT CREATES THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGES NECESSARY TO RECALL A MODEL OF VEHICLE. DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY COULD HAVE RESULTED DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OF THE PARKING BRAKE IN MY CAR. MY VEHICLE HAS INCURRED ABOVE $3,000 WORTH OF STRUCTURAL AND BODY DAMAGE FROM ROLLING AWAY AT NO FAULT OF MY OWN. IT IS CURRENTLY AT A REPAIR SHOP AND I AM PURSUING A CLAIM WITH HYUNDAI BUT THEY ARE NOT DOING WHAT IS BEST FOR THE SAFETY OF CONSUMERS. I THREW IT IN NEUTRAL AND HELP MY WIFE TURN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE WE LOST POWER STEERING. WE GOT LUCKY AND HAD A SPACE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN WE GOT TOWED TO TUTTLE-CLICK IN IRVINE, CA AND OUR CAR TURNED INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THEY BASICALLY SAID WE ARE ON OUR OWN TO FIND A RIDE BACK HOME AND NO LOANER CAR. TWO DAYS LATER I HAVE TO CALL THEM TO FIND OUT THE PROBLEM, FIRST A TECHNICIAN SAID THAT IT WAS A BAD BATTERY BUT THAT WOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED IT TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2014 WHITE HYUNDAI ELANTRA, AT PRESENT THE ODOMETER IS READING 6,800 MILES. ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 9TH, AT APPROXIMATELY 5:25 P.M. WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AT A SLOW SPEED (APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MPH) IN A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT LOCATED AT 10100 W. SAMPLE ROAD, FLORIDA, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION, WHICH CAUSED A SEVERE CRASH INVOLVING TWO OTHER VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHICH THEREBY CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND COLLIDE WITH TWO PARKED CARS (AN SUV AND A SEDAN. EVEN AFTER COLLIDING WITH THE SUV I STILL WAS UNABLE THE STOP THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS TRAVELING AT SUCH A HIGH RATE OF SPEED THAT I COLLIDED WITH A SECOND VEHICLE. IT WAS ONLY WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO THE PARK POSITION DID THE VEHICLE COME TO A STOP. AT NO TIME DID THE CARS AIRBAGS DEPLOY. I AM BEYOND DISTRESSED ABOUT THIS ACCIDENT. I AM A SAFE DRIVER AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED AN ACCIDENT SUCH AS THIS BEFORE. ASIDE FROM MY PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL INJURIES, MY SISTER SUFFERED SEVERAL INJURIES WHEN SHE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE. THIS HAS JUST ADDED TO MY DISTRESS AND DISAPPOINTMENT ABOUT THE ACCIDENT. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I WAS ASSURED THAT THIS WAS A SAFE CAR, HOWEVER, I HAVE LOOKED AT THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA, INCLUDING SEVERAL SUDDEN AND UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION CRASHES. I INTEND TO FILE A COMPLAINT MYSELF. THE PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE OF THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR IS OVER TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS AND NOW I FACE SELLING THE CAR BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY THAT I WOULD FEEL SAFE OR COMFORTABLE DRIVING IT AGAIN. I HAS RECENTLY TRADED IN MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA FOR A 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE 2014 HAD STARTED DOING WHAT THE 2012 DID OCCASIONALLY, ACCELERATE WHEN I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS TO SWITCH TO THE BRAKE TO BEGIN SLOWING DOWN FOR A LIGHT. AFTER I'VE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND I'M COASTING BEFORE I NEED TO APPLY IT AGAIN, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE. I USED TO THINK IT WAS MY IMAGINATION, THEN I READ OTHERS CONFIRMING IT DOES HAPPEN. THE HEADRESTS PUSH MY HEAD FORWARD INTO AN UNCOMFORTABLE & UNNATURAL POSITION. I AM A 5'4" SMALLER FRAMED DRIVER. WHEN SEATED, MY HEAD IS PUSHED SO FAR FORWARD THAT MY LINE OF SIGHT IS THE STEERING WHEEL AND DASH, NOT THE ROAD. THIS MAKES ME HAVE TO CONTINUALLY LIFT MY EYES FROM THEIR NATURAL POSITION TO VIEW THE ROAD. WHEN TRYING TO TURN MY HEAD TO SEE WHILE DRIVING, THE NATURAL TURNING MOTION OF MY NECK IS HINDERED WITH LIMITED RANGE OF MOVEMENT AND AWKWARD UNNATURAL MOVEMENT ANGLE CAUSING SLOWER HEAD ROTATION. THE ANGLE THAT MY HEAD IS FORCED INTO INTERFERES WITH COMFORTABLE NATURAL BREATHING. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THESE HEADRESTS FOR SHORT DRIVERS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, BUT THESE ASPECTS OF NEWER STYLED HEADRESTS DISTRACT & INTERFERE WITH MY SAFE DRIVING. THE BEST WAY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT IN THE FIRST PLACE IS TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT INTERFERENCE & DISTRACTION. DURING & AFTER MY DRIVING TRIP: MY EYES WERE TIRED FROM BEING FORCED TO LOOK UPWARD CONSTANTLY TO SEE THE ROAD, INSTEAD OF BEING POSITIONED IN A NATURAL FORWARD VIEW. MY NECK WAS TIRED FROM BEING FORCED DOWNWARD, HAVING LIMITED RANGE OF MOTION AND FROM THE EXTRA FRICTION & EFFORT WHEN SUBCONSCIOUSLY ATTEMPTING TO PUT MY HEAD INTO A NATURAL HEAD POSITION, BUT BEING HINDERED BY THE SEAT WHEN I HAD TO CHECK FOR OTHER VEHICLES AT INTERSECTIONS, DURING LANE CHANGES AND SIMPLY TRYING TO LOOK FORWARD NATURALLY. I WAS DISTRACTED BY MY DISCOMFORT IN BREATHING FOR MY ENTIRE TRIP BY THE STRAIN/PRESSURE IN MY NECK/THROAT AREA THAT INTERFERED WITH MY BREATHING. I WAS DISTRACTED BY MY GLASSES SLIDING & INTERFERING WITH MY VIEW BECAUSE OF THE DOWNWARD POSITIONING OF MY HEAD. *TR

I WAS ON A HIGHWAY DRIVING THE VEHICLE (A 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA) AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN IT INEXPLICABLY "STALLED" FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM. I QUICKLY LOST SPEED AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE DESPITE THE FACT THAT I WAS PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AT ONE POINT. THE VEHICLE SIMPLY DID NOT RESPOND. THERE WAS PLENTY OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE, SO I HAD NOT RUN OUT OF GAS. THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO HAVE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF OPERATION. THIS RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON A HIGHWAY WHERE I, ALONG WITH THE OTHER OCCUPANTS WITHIN THE VEHICLE, SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT INJURIES. NOTABLY, NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED--EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK SEVERAL TIMES FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES AND SUSTAINED HEAVY DAMAGE, INCLUDING BEING CRUSHED IN FROM THE REAR. *TR

HYUNDAI VEHICLES DO NOT COME WITH A SPARE TIRE. INSTEAD YOU GET AN AIR COMPRESSOR AND FIX A FLAT. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS TIRE DAMAGE THAT CAN NOT BE SEALED WITH FIX A FLAT LEAVES THE DRIVER STRANDED, UNABLE TO PUT ON A SPARE TIRE AND GO.
