About 3 years ago the EPS light came on. Brought it to the dealer who said it needed 3500.00 dollars worth of work to replace the steering column. Refused the work and they reset the light. Now after checking i see this was part of a recall 127 . My car was checked and stamped fine so out of luck. Car works good for 3 years now it is doing it again. Just driving straight down the road and power steering stops working, then starts working. Right now steering is fine and the PS light is on all the time. Any help would be appreciated. Car only has 120,000 miles and is in great shape except forthe steering.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY EPS LIGHT CAME ON AND POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THAT IT INDICATES A PLROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING SYSTEM. I HAVE SHARCHED AND READ THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. ON MY 209 HYUNDIA ELANTRA BUT WHEN I VIN IT SAYS NO OPEN RECALLS. DOES THIS MEAN IT HAS BEEN FIXED BEFORE OR IS MINE NOT COVERED UNDER ECALL. MY VIN IS [XXX] ANY HELP WOULD BE HELPFUL. I AM A DISABLED MAN. THAT THIS IS MY ONLY CAR TO TAKE CARE OF MINE AND MY DISABLED SON NEEDS. This vehicle is part of RECALL CAMPAIGN 127. This vehicle had a software update to "Fix" problem but is now recurring. The dealership says they will not fix it.

On several occasions, starting in the Fall of 2023 and occurring most recently on 8/9/24, I observed my Elantra's red EPS warning light turn on, and the steering wheel became very "stiff" while driving. Power steering was instantly disabled, resulting in momentary loss of control of the rate of turning in the vehicle. These symptoms are in accordance with Hyundai Recall Campaign 127, but a VIN search revealed the vehicle has been serviced for the recall. I have reached out to Hyundai customer service and a dealership, neither of which attempted to fix the issue.

The contact attempted to turn the steering wheel but was unable to do so. The contact stated there were other unknown warning lights illuminated, that were unrelated to the failure. The vehicle was at the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V100000 (Steering) as a possible solution however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 311,500.

March 26, 2024 Hello; Re: 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring VIN# [XXX] On [XXX], I while driving on a very icy slippery road to do low temperatures and the city not salting the roads like they should have! I was going approximately 22 mph & somehow I lost control of my car & slammed into a light pole & the whole entire front end of my car was destroyed! Meanwhile, none of the airbags deployed & I slammed into the steering wheel! I had my seatbelt on & it immediately locked up on me & someone had to cut me out of the seatbelt! I was transported to the hospital emergency, while my car was towed to "E. End Auto" @ 64 10th Ave. Dickinson, ND I suffered severe injuries such as back & neck injuries, 4 bruised ribs & horribly severe bruises to my left eye & scars! As soon as I possibly could I contacted "E End Auto" to find out what to do next & they informed me that the tow charges were approximately $700 & that was less than a 2-mile tow! Additionally each day the car sat in their storage lot it was $75 per day! It took me a few days to get a ride to get to my car due to pain and suffering, which I'm still experiencing terribly!! So, by the time I got to my car it had been there approximately 3 to 4 days & my bill was over $1,000! I spoke with the owner & pleaded & begged him if he could possibly offer me something for my car since it was obviously totaled out! He said absolutely no & that if I gave him the title to my car he would zero out the bill! So unfortunately hesitantly I had no choice, so I signed over the title! This business used to take vehicles that were wrecked & part them out. Unfortunately, they do not do that any longer & my car would soon be transferred to the salvage yard & be crushed! I don't understand what could have happened! I'm asking with all due respect and consideration if this matter can be looked into please?! The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light intermittently illuminated. Additionally, the passenger's side air bag light failed to illuminate while a passenger was seated in the passenger's side front seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and an independent mechanic, where the air bags software was reset; however, the failure recurred. The dealer confirmed that the air bags were Takata brand air bags. The independent mechanic determined that the air bag sensors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 146,000.

My car is having the same problem that the 2009 Elantra Sedan is having. My air bag warning light recently came on while I was driving and does not go off. I am concerned that my air bags will not go off in an accident.

On June 20th, 2022 my daughter was pulling into a parking space in the King of Prussia mall in Pennsylvania. Just before she turned the ignition off, both the driver's and passenger's side airbags deployed. THERE WAS NO COLLISION INVOLVED. Attached photos were taken immediately after to prove this. The vehicle was inspected by an independent inspector hired by Hyundai approximately 3 weeks later. According to Hyundai, there was front frame damage (this may have been from a February 2018 collision). Hyundai is covering up a serious potential safety issue by taking this position. Why frame damage from a 2018 collision be a material factor to this mishap? If this uncommanded airbag deployment happened while my daughter was driving at speed, she could have been in a serious accident. This vehicle is untouched and it is available for inspection. I encourage a NHTSA inspector to come look at the vehicle. Hyundai's refusal to take responsibility to find the root cause of this mechanical failure is reprehensible.

I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT TODAY GOING ABOUT 20MPH WHEN MY CAR STARTED SPEEDING UP. I STARTED BRAKING, BUT THE ENGINE SEEMED TO JUST WANT TO GO. I WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN AND CARS WERE COMING SO I JUST TURNED OFF THE SWITCH AND IT STOPPED. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, IT SEEMED NORMAL AND I DROVE VERY CAREFULLY HOME. I AM GOING TO TRY TO RENT A CAR TILL THIS GETS CHECKED. IT SCARED ME TO DEATH AND HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.

CAR ACCILERATER GETS STUCK AND WILL ACCELERATE WHEN CAR IS FIRST STARTED, WHETHER STATIONARY OR IN MOTION. GAS PEDAL WILL STICK. SEEMS TO FUNCTION NORMALLY AFTER THE CAR HAS WARMED UP. The contact owned a 2009 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that on one occasion when the vehicle was turned on, the brake and ABS warning lights illuminated. On another occasion, while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied for approximately 5 days, there was smoke coming from the front of the hood of the vehicle. The department extinguished the fire and a fire report was filed. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to a junkyard where it was deemed totaled by the insurance company. A dealer was contacted and confirmed there were no recalls associated to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V061000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to repair was unavailable. The vehicle was currently at the contact's residence. The dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Premature brake failure due to rusted parts. In April 2022 the front brakes seized at 105,717 miles, ruining the rotors. I skidded to a stop at a busy intersection and had the car towed. The front brake pads had aprox 20,000 miles on them and had recently been checked for safety. The rear brakes failed at 109,540 miles after a rusty caliper seized. Calipers, rotors and pads were replaced. Undercoating and rustproofing had been applied to this car at 76,988 miles.

Got in the car to come home put the key in ignition turned it and battery was dead went to turn off and something popped and cloud of smoke started rolling out from underneath the hood once hood was up the smoke got stronger from behind the motor the battery we had to get the battery unplugged and pulled out to get the electricity out the vehicle because of the battery being dead but sill plugged up at the time it would continue smoking more and more and thicker thicker so My husband pulled the battery out immediately as doing so we both inhaled some smoke but we was more concerned about it catching on fire so we pulled through it . We are confused on how or why this happened nothing has broke or went wrong with my vehicle but serpentine belt brake and tire ware my mother had car inspected and service back in May nothing was said that there is or will be wrong with my car. We had no idea that there was anything wrong no warning lights no signs of any problems up to this incident.

NEXEN N5000 SERIES TIRES. I HAD TWO WITH SIDE BUBBLES AND TWO THAT THE TREADS ARE SEPARATING FROM THE TIRES. IT LOOKS LIKE RETREADS. ONE TIRE WAS READY TO SEPARATE AT ANY MOMENT. The original car jack supplied with the vehicle failed. The jack is intended to be used in an emergency where the tire needs to be removed and replaced by the driver. The jack almost folded in half. The jack was installed correctly under the car. I had removed the damaged tire, and suddenly that end of the car had fallen. If I had been in the act of installing the spare tire I could have been severely injured by the falling car. I have the car jack and it can be inspected if you need it to be.

UNKNOWN; My car moved from pavement to dirt rode. I pressed the break and attempted to turn left. The car did not slow down or turn. I went straight off the curve and hit a tree. Upon impact broke 4 bones(hip, ribs, arm, shoulder shoved into my chest) , lacerated 2 organs, and major concussion. I go for a secondary hip surgery to correct the failed device inside my body now.

WHILE DRIVING, THE AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM TURNS OFF AUTOMATICALLY EVEN WHEN IT IS TURNED ON AND THEN AFTER A WHILE IT TURNS BACK ON AGAIN ON ITS OWN. AGAIN WHILE DRIVING, WHEN THE AIR CIRCULATION IS TURNED OFF, IT TURNS ON SPORADICALLY AND TURNS BACK OFF AGAIN. SO FAR THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ONLY FOR A SHORT DURATION BUT THE CONCERN IS THAT IF IT TURNS OFF FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME DURING WINTER DRIVING OR DURING RAIN THEN THE WINDSHIELD DEFOGGER WILL NOT WORK WHICH WILL END UP BEING A SAFETY HAZARD. NOT SURE IF THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM - MAY BE A LOOSE CONTACT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OR A WIRING ISSUE. NOT CLEAR IF THIS WILL END UP AFFECTING OTHER DEVICES SUCH AS LIGHTS, ETC. LATER. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE SECOND HAND IN SUMMER OF 2015.

I previously brought my car in for a recall in 2014 for underbody corrosion and it was repaired; however, now there has been severe corrosion of the underbody, not just the components listed in the recall but nearly the whole underbody is severly rusted and corroded (see pictures below). My mother was driving my car in July 2024 when the rear subframe completely snapped near the control arm while she was driving. Luckily she did not get injured or hurt, but it could have been potentially fatal especially with this happening. I reported this to Hyundai Motor America and towed my car to the dealership. The dealership has submitted a goodwill request to cover the repairs of the recall not the other ones; however, I raised a potential oversight for the previous recall whereby the corrosion of other components not explicitly named in the campaign such as the sway bars and backing plates which could also directly impact the vehicle’s structural integrity and safety if corroded. The omission of ALL of the components that would be subject to corrosion in the recall campaign could have been an oversight and the recall should have covered all critical underbody components prone to corrosion, not just the ones explicitly listed in the recall. Other parts corrosion are a direct consequence of the same environmental factors that led to the corrosion of the subframe and control arms. Since these components are interconnected, and since Hyundai has acknowledged the issue with the crossmember corrosion through the recall, it stands to reason that the other components’ damage should also be addressed as part of the overall remedy. These additional parts would have been exposed to the same environmental factors (e.g., road salt, moisture) that caused the other components to corrode. Since Hyundai acknowledges that these environmental factors led to corrosion in the subframe and control arms, it stands that the other components would also be affected too.

PASSENGER SIDE EXTERIOR HANDLE FELL OFF WHEN PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO OPEN DOOR TO MY CAR ON AUGUST 10, 2018. ELEVEN MONTHS AGO THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF IN MY HAND , THE REPAIR BILL WAS $125.00 AT THE LOCAL DEALER. MY CAR HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE IT. SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES MAY HAPPEN IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND OUTSIDE HELP CANNOT GET THE PASSENGER DOOR OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE BECAUSE THE HANDLE BREAKS OFF IN THEIR HAND. SO NOW IT WILL COST ME AGAIN TO REPLACE THE HANDLE AS I WAIT TO SEE WHICH HANDLE WILL FALL OFF NEXT! ABS HECU unit has failed, thus posing a safety risk. All brake lights (ABS and warming brake lights), in addition to Check Engine light are illuminated on dash. Faulty relay recall was taken care of in timely manner (recall 188), but now fires are starting in other vehicles due to failed HECU unit (which dealership and independent mechanic has confirmed that I have). More recalls for earlier Hyundai years need to be included in recall 218 or a new recall implemented to avoid cars catching fire due to failed HECU (my car has not caught fire as of the time of this report).

I WAS NOTIFIED OF A RECALL FOR THE ABS BREAKS STATING THAT THERE COULD BE A SHORT CIRCUIT ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I CALLED HYUNDAI IN LATE JULY 2020, SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR A BROKEN WINDOW AND RECALL. UPON LEAVING THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND NEEDED TO BE ORDERED. IT IS NOW OCTOBER 15, 2020 AND THE PART HAS STILL NOT ARRIVED. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE STATED THAT THEY HAVE APPROXIMATELY 20 PEOPLE WAITING FOR THIS PART AND THEY HAVE ONLY RECEIVED 5 PARTS. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 3 MONTHS. AFTER YEARS OF SALT AND WINTER WEATHER THE ENCLOSURE OF THIS BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTING AWAY UNKNOWINGLY. MOISTURE, WET AND WINTER ELIMINATES WERE TRAPPED WITHIN THIS PLASTIC COVER CAUSING THE BRAKE LINE TO RUST. THE CAR IS NOW 8 YEARS OLD SO IT TOOK 8 YEARS FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. I HAVE 2009 ELANTRA, SEPTEMBER 2017 I NOTICED A LAG IN THE SHIFTING ALWAYS AT 25-32MPH MOST OF THE TIME I HAD TO REMOVE MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR TO MANUALLY SHIFT. WHETHER I 'MANUALLY SHIFTED' OR STAYED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THERE WOULD ALWAYS BE A HARD JERK DURING THE SHIFTING OF THAT GEAR. ON DEACCERERATION, THE CAR WOULD ALWAYS JERK ON THE DOWNSHIFT ALMOST ALWAYS AT THE SAME 25-32MPH. I HAD TO AVOID HIGHWAYS DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS OF MERGING DUE TO THE LACK OF ACCELERATION. I DECIDED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED AT A HYUNDAI DEALER. THE DAY I PICKED MY CAR UP, I COULDN'T DRIVE OVER PARKING LOT SPEEDS. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED SERVICE WARRANTY THROUGH AND MY TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A USED ELANTRA TRANSMISSION WITH 72,000MILES. THE CAR SHIFTED GREAT FOR FIRST 2MONTHS, NOW SECOND TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION. I HAVE NOT REACHED OUT TO SERVICE WARRANTY COMPANY AS IT WILL JUST BE A WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORT. THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE CAR UNTIL EPS (RED) AND ESC OFF (YELLOW) LIGHTS CAME ON WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED ONE EVENING, AND IN TURN THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN EARLIER IN THE DAY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE STEERING ANGLE RE-CALIBRATION AND THE ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE, BUT THE ERRORS PERSISTED. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING COLUMN AND THE STOP LAMP SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THESE EXACT TWO PARTS WERE A SUBJECT OF TWO SEPARATE RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE (CAMPAIGNS # 110 AND 127) AND WERE REPAIRED/SERVICED IN 2015 AND THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, THEY INDICATED THAT IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY HAD DEVELOPED AN UPDATE THAT THEY COULD UPLOAD IT TO TO THE COMPUTER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE POWER STEERING IN THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE UPDATE WAS RUN, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING LIKE NORMAL. THIS MORNING ON JULY 4, 2014, I WENT TO START MY VEHICLE AND WAS DRIVING AGAIN IN THE EARLY MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, AND LOW AND BEHOLD THE EPS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I WILL BE CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND ASKING THEY INSPECT THE VEHICLE. I DOUBT THAT THIS TIME AN UPDATE WILL FIX THE PROBLEM AS IT HAS OCCURRED TWICE NOW AND EXPECT THAT IT WILL COST TONS TO FIX THE VEHICLE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO WILSON HYUNDAI FOR THE RECALLS TO BE CORRECTED. I WAS ALSO HAVING ISSUES WITH AN AIR BAG LIGHT AND A CLICKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I RECEIVED A CALL TELLING ME MY STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE SENSORS TO A MODULE. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE SENSOR TO MY PASSENGER SEAT HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE SEAT. THEY WERE WANTING TO CHARGE ME OVER $6,000.00 TO REPAIR THESE TWO ISSUES. THERE ARE RECALLS ON BOTH OF THESE ISSUES: NHTSA 15V100000 ADDRESSES ISSUES WITH THE STEERING AND THE FIX DOES NOT INCLUDE OR REQUIRE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. THE SOLUTION FOR THIS RECALL IS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER. THIS DOES NOT ADDRESS THE CLICKING NOISE IN THE COLUMN WHERE A GEAR/COG DISINTEGRATES OVER TIME.... A $12.00 PART IS ESTIMATED TO COST OVER $500 IN LABOR TO REPLACE. February, 2024 - brakes "soft" at times, seems not catching unless stepped on almost to the floor. I brought it to the dealership same day. Since I did not have an appointment, a test drive was done and was told it was working fine and let them know if the brake warning lights will turn on. No record of this was noted. March, 2024 - I had to bring it back because the brakes feel like it will quit as I have to really step on the pedal to the floor before the car will slow down. The master cylinder was changed. Multi-point inspection was done. I got the car back March 14, 2024. April 12, 2024 - I had to bring it back because of the brake and ABS lights on the instrument panel lighted up. I was told it's the HECU that's the problem. I had to drive back the car to home because of the quoted cost of $3,266.58 estimate that I have to make a decision of. This was on April 23, 2024. I was told that the ABS module may not work in event of inclement weather or quick stops. A multi-point inspection was done prior to release of vehicle. I never received a recall on the Hyundai HECU. It was only when I researched it after I got the car back. I made it known that I want to be sure I will not get in an accident due to the brakes not working. I was informed that I can drive it but be mindful of the ABS module not working in cases as noted, that the lights were alerts but could be a problem later on. What is my recourse since I did not receive any recall notice? I was trying to fill up the complaint form and it said that the car is impacted by the HECU complaint. it will not let me complete the form. It was frozen on the reimbursement requested. The dealership never did inform me of the recall. I bring this car to this dealership for maintenance and repairs.

The front sub frame of my 2009 Hyundai Elantra is completed rusted and rotted. It looks like the control arm is about to drop out of the frame. After an inspection by my mechanic he insisted the car is no longer safe to drive and suggested I do not put any money into the other problems we were having with it ( the reason it was at the shop).

I have a 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring with 2 recalls. I first noticed a problem on 7/25/21 when my Power Steering stopped working all of a sudden. So I Googled the info & discovered that it was a recall: #127 - EPS And, then discovered the other recall: #188 - ABS I contacted Hyundai on Mon 7/26/21 & spoke w/ Tiffany & she started a claim: #18490296. I was told my car would be picked up within 2-3 days & taken to the Hyundai Dealership & all repairs would be done FREE OF CHARGE. As of 8/11/21 it has been a total of 16 days since starting the claim & I have made phone calls every day & documented who I have spoken to. I am getting the runaround & no one can tell me when my car will be picked up & taken to be fixed. (Cust Svc Reps agreed that it shouldn't be taking this long!) I am fed up, frustrated & I don't know what to do from here. I have read that with the recalls, it isn't safe to drive my car & because of these issues. It is costing me time & money being out of work! This is so un-acceptable & I need answers as to what to do & how I'm ever going to get my car repaired?! I'm glad I found your website & I just hope someone can give me some feedback & help in getting this problem resolved! I desperate! So whomever reads this message, I'm begging you Please help me?! I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON. WHEN I TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF, THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. IN FACT, THE CAR INCREASED IN SPEED EVEN WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL COMPLETELY OFF. I MADE MY WAY OFF THE EXIT AND PRESSED THE BREAK HARD AND WITH THE HELP WITH EMERGENCY BREAK, I WAS ABLE TO STOP AT THE SIDE OF THE EXIT AND WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE CAR. AS SOON AS I STARTED UP THE CAR AGAIN, THE ENGINE REVVED REAL HIGH. I OPENED THE HOOD OF THE CAR AND SAW THAT PLASTIC ENGINE COVER HAD SPLIT AND THE BROKEN PIECE WAS JAMMING THE THROTTLE CABLE. IT WASN'T RUNNING, NOTHING LEFT ON, IT HAD NOT BEEN RUN FOR 4 HOURS SO THE ENGINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN COLD. NO DRIVABILITY PROBLEMS BEFORE. POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED, PUT THE FIRE OUT AND STATED THAT THEY SAW NOTHING SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THE FIRE AND THAT I SHOULD CHECK ON PROBLEMS WITH HYUNDAI. THIS CAR ONLY HAD 70000 MILES ON IT WITH A 10 YEAR 100000 MILE WARRANTEE .I WENT TO THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT HITTING THE GUARDRAIL (APPROX. 20 FEET AWAY WHEN I LEFT THE HIGHWAY), TRAVELED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED DOWN A SLIGHT EMBANKMENT AND INTO A FIELD, WHERE FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO OBSTACLES, AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE APPROX. 500 FEET FROM LEAVING THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, NOW AT A NORMAL RATE. I ATTEMPTED TO RETURN TO THE INTERSTATE BUT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL DUE TO THE EMBANKMENT. I DROVE THROUGH MY PREVIOUS TRACKS IN THE FIELD AND WAS ABLE TO GET ONTO A NEARBY EXIT RAMP. THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED NORMALLY AFTER THAT. PLEASE NOTE, THIS VEHICLE HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I DID NOT ATTEMPT TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL BECAUSE I HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL TRYING TO MANEUVER THROUGH THE FIELD, WHICH WAS QUITE GREEN, ACTIVELY GROWING, AND APPROXIMATELY 15 INCHES HIGH. THE CROP SCRAPED THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH IS NOW IN THE SHOP WAITING TO HAVE THE NEW PART REPLACED. THE MECHANIC WILL CHECK FOR DAMAGE ON THE UNDERSIDE. During a car accident yesterday. Upon impact at about 30 mph the seatbelt ripped and provided no deceleration during a head on collision. If it wasn’t for the airbag I would have been very seriously injured. It has not yet been inspected by insurance but I have a few videos of the failure for the seatbelt to work.

Drove about 1 hour using cruise control part of the time. Don't usually use it, but used it 2 months ago with no problem. After 1.5 hour visit, drove home. Did not use cruise control, but at last 10 minutes acceleration issue started where car would "rev" even though I was not accelerating. Able to manage it with brake and normal driving. Tried to reset cruise (turn on/off), but car still had episodes of "revving". Did not accelerate to dangerous level and controllable. After car sat in garage for 2 hours, I drove out of neighborhood to empty stretch of road and accelerated to 50 with no problems and no revving of engine. Service check scheduled.

The contact owned a 2009 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked she was notified that there was smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that flames were coming from under the hood and the fire department was called to extinguish the fire. The fire department report was filed. The contact stated that prior to the failure the ABS and brake warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that he could not determine why the brake light was illuminated but advised that the failure could be related to a wire. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who was unable to inspect the vehicle. The contact stated that the independent mechanic advised her that the vehicle was safe to drive. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The contact researched the failure online and related the failure NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V061000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The contact stated that she did not receive a recall notice. THE CAR REVERTS TO MANUAL STEERING MODE AND REQUIRES SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF EFFORT TO CONTROL. WE HAVE HAD THE EPS LIGHT TURN ON MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AND PUTTING US IN DANGEROUS, UNSAFE CONDITIONS ON THE ROAD. RECENTLY, THE EPS LIGHT IS STAYING ON AND NOT GOING AWAY. WE VISITED THE LOCAL DEALER TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AND THEIR DIAGNOSIS RESULTED IN ERROR CODES RELATED TO THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR-ELECTRICAL, TORQUE SENSOR MAIN SIGNAL FAULT, ECU (BRAKE SYSTEM) HARDWARE ERROR, CAN TIME-OUT EMS, AND MOTOR. WHEN ASKED, THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO PERFORM AN EVALUATION AS PER THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. THEY RECALIBRATED THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR AND STATED THAT IF THE PROBLEM REOCCURS, WE WOULD NEED TO RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN (PART NUMBER 56310-2H250 AS1) AND PAY FULL COST OF REPAIR (PART AND LABOR). THIS PART NUMBER IS LISTED AS A REPLACEABLE ITEM PER THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED AN EPS S/W CHK/ECU UPGRADE IN 2015 WHEN NO ISSUES WERE PRESENT AND REFUSE TO FURTHER ASSIST WHEN THE ISSUE IS PRESENT WHEN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN INFORMATION LETTER IN MARCH 2015 CLEARLY STATES THAT THE FINAL REMEDY HAS NOT BEEN DEVELOPED AT THIS TIME. THE DIAGNOSIS SHOWS THAT A FAULTY PART WAS INSTALLED BY THE CAR MANUFACTURER, AS STATED IN THE RECALL, AND THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS THE ACTUAL ISSUE. INSTEAD OF SOLVING THE PROBLEM, THEY INSIST THAT WE DRIVE THIS POTENTIALLY UNSAFE VEHICLE UNTIL THE ISSUE REOCCURS. AT LOW MILEAGE OF 32,485 MILES, THE DEALER RECOMMENDED I REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AND EPS DUE TO INTERNAL FAILURE. COMPUTER WAS UNABLE TO READ TORQUE TO ECM. I PROMPTLY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI USA TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING MAJOR MANUFACTURING DEFECTS WITH STEERING PARTS BREAKING, MALFUNCTIONS, AND RECALLS THAT HAVEN'T FIXED THE CRITICAL UNDERLYING PROBLEMS THAT RESURFACE. THIS STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS JUST TURNED ON, STATIONARY. I AM STARTING TO GET A CHRISTMAS TREE LOOKING DASHBOARD. IN ADDITION, THE DOOR BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAS BECOME STUCK AND WON'T OPEN, DUE TO REPORTEDLY ALLOWING WATER IN FOR THE HANDLE TO RUST. AS WELL AS ABOUT A YEAR AGO MY DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR JUST SUDDENLY FELL OUT OF THE CEILING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS IS LITERALLY THE WORST CAR I'VE EVER OWNED.

EMERGENCY BRAKE HANDLE IS LOOSE. RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING THE EBRAKE LIGHT COMES ON THE DASHBOARD. TO MAKE THE LIGHT GO AWAY, I HAVE TO TAP THE BRAKE DOWN. THE LEVER HANDLE IS LOOSE AND SHAKES WHEN I AM DRIVING. THIS COULD BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS HAPPENS DAILY. THIS STARTED HAPPENING A FEW MONTHS AGO.

RECEIVE SERVICE CAMPAIGN NOTIFICATION TO APPLY RUST-PROOFING MATERIALS TO UNDERBODY TO ARREST THE CORROSION PROCESS. TOOK CAR TO LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER FOR RUST-PROOFING AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE OIL PAN IS RUSTED AND NEEDS REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OVER $600 - I HAVE WRITTEN ESTIMATE FROM HYUNDAI DEALER. INFORMED THAT OIL PAN NEEDS REPLACED BECAUSE IF IT FAILS THAT OIL WILL LEAK OUT AND DAMAGE\RUIN ENGINE. TOLD HYUNDAI WOULD NOT COVER OIL PAN REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY AS I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER EVEN THOUGH MILEAGE WAS UNDER 100,000 AT TIME OF SERVICE. IF I WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER, THEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE 100,000 MILE BUMPER TO BUMPER COVERAGE. I ALSO HAVE A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA THAT RECEIVED SAME SERVICE CAMPAIGN NOTICE FOR RUST PROOFING UNDERBODY AND OIL PAN IS LOOKING ITS LIKE HEADING INTO SAME DIRECTION IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT DUE TO RUST. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO THE OIL PAN EVEN AFTER 10 YEARS OF AGE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS A PROGRESSING FAILURE IN WHICH THE GEAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V113000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) BUT THE MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED THE DEALER THAT ANOTHER DEALER IN A DIFFERENT STATE COMPLETED THE REPAIR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STOP LAMP SWITCH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE PASSENGER SEAT WEIGHT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR FAILED AND AS A RESULT THE CAR SHUT DOWN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON AND AS SUCH NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WILL FUNCTION. THE DEALER QUOTED ME AT NEARLY $2,000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND MENTIONED REPLACING THE ENTIRE SEAT BOTTOM. REQUIRING A COMPLETE SEAT REPLACEMENT FOR A SIMPLE SENSOR SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN FEB 2012 AT 34,214 MI AND IN 1 YR TIME, I KEPT BLOWING LIGHTS...HEADLIGHTS, FOG, BRAKE AND TAIL. I PUT A LOT OF MILES ON MY CAR SO BY THE TIME I BECAME ANNOYED BY IT, I JUST MISSED MY WARRANTY SO I LET IT GO. FFWD TO SEPT 2014, I COULDN'T KEEP MY TAIL AND BRAKE LIGHTS FUNCTIONING AT THE SAME TIME. AFTER SEVERAL BULB REPLACEMENTS, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IT WASN'T THE BULBS THAT KEPT BLOWING, BUT RATHER THE FUSE. AS SOON AS I TURNED THE LIGHTS ON, IT WOULD POP. NOV 2014 AT 118,470 MI, I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM RESEARCH...AFTER 3 DAYS IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE WIRES THAT GO AROUND THE LICENSE PLATE FRAME WERE BEING PINCHED BY THE SCREWS CREATING A DIAG SHORT SO IT WAS ADJUSTED AND I MOVED ON. JAN 2015, SAME PROBLEM!! I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEY TORE APART THE CAR AGAIN, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS DAMAGED WIRING TO THE R/S PLATE LAMP TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY WERE MELTED TOGETHER AND EVERY TIME THE LIGHTS WERE TURNED ON, IT WOULD SMOKE. THIS IS A SEPARATE ISSUE THAT WAS NOT SEEN IN NOV. IT WAS REPAIRED SO IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT THAT WAS 3 YEARS OF ELECTRICAL DRAMA THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. REAR BRAKE CALIPER PROBLEM! THE REAR'S ONLY HAVE TO BE LUBRICATED EVERY 15K MILES OR ANNUALLY. A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE LISTED ON A RECALL PROBLEM TO REPLACED WITH A REDESIGN THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE THIS LUBRACTION.
