Air bag fault light is on.

On October 1, 2023, I started my vehicle in the driveway to having the red airbag warning light appear as a dashboard symbol. No accidents have occurred. I do not see any recalls on this issue. I’ll be visiting the Hyundai dealership today- October 3, 2023.

As the driver in a front end crash, my driver side airbag did not deploy. There was heavy front end damage and the car was unrepairable due to the front end damage. There was no prior indication that the airbag(s) were not working properly. The collision center where the car was towed was also surprised that there was no air bag deployment.

The air bag light on the dashboard came on and has stayed on. I got into my car in the morning as I do everyday, and the air bag light came on. The light goes out when I turn off the ignition. But the light stays on while the car is running and while I'm driving the car. This has been a problem for over a week. I haven't been involved in any accidents or incidents that led to the light coming on. And I haven't had any work done to the car that would cause this problem. I'm worried that the air bags won't deploy if I was involved in an accident. I see others all over the internet that have been having the same issue. The cost is prohibitive to have it checked and fixed. A recall should be issued. There's no reason that the air bag light should just come on and stay on. I would like Hyundai to cover the cost of checking and fixing this safety issue.

When I start the engine, I hear pronounced knocking sounds in the engine for approximately 1-2 seconds, and they are quite loud. As the engine warms up, the knocking persists, albeit at a lower volume. The ongoing knocks are not as loud, resembling a consistent noise similar to that of a diesel engine, although it is not a diesel-powered vehicle

10 am Sunday morning going to church I am about 2 miles away from home I started hearing trickled sound at front before entering the freeway. Then about 5 miles before my exit the noise start to get louder and I decided to go 25 mph after I exited the freeway. I stopped at AutoZone parking lot to check and didn't find anything unusual.No engine lights or anything on the dashboard. After 2 hours parked at AutoZone I drove it home at slow speed and decided not to use the freeway so I can keep moving 25 mph max. It's a scary situation and good thing is I'm the driving not my wife. It has closed to 130,000 miles.

The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing a piston to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 123,500.

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra false starts. I’ve changed the battery and gotten a tune up. I’ve taken it into the dealership and paid for a diagnostic, even the Hyundai dealership says they cannot explain why the car is false starting. I believe it is my engine. But why isn’t my car Included in the engine recall?

On February 14, 2023, around 6:30 PM the right front passenger front coil spring broke on my 2011 Hyundai Elantra. I was driving while crossing railroad tracks when the front end dropped down on the right side and the car wouldn’t move. I continued to push the accelerator to get my car off the tracks and on the side of the road- spring cut my tire ripping the inner tire wall. I made several calls to Hyundai (Springfield IL Dealership) and they informed although there was a current recall (number 15V629000) on this issue, I was advised that my VIN did not qualify. The reasoning was that my car's physical address didn’t qualify for the recall. I contested this with appropriate documentation that clearly showed the broken pieces with corrosion. I ended up suffering the cost of the towing bill and replacement of both strut assemblies. In March 2023, I received a recall (campaign - 984) to have an underbody cavity wax and anti-corrosion spray applied to prevent corrosion of components due to road salt. So, as I attempted to point out to Hyundai that my car and perhaps many others were at risk for these potentially fatal risk.

On 8/14/2021 I entered NHTSA complaint number 11429117. This was in regard to a fractured front coil spring in my 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Although there was a current recall (number 15V629000) on this issue, I was advised that my VIN did not qualify. Apparently the reasoning was that my car was built in a different location in Alabama. I contested this with appropriate documention that clearly showed the broken pieces with corrosion. I ended up suffering the cost of replacement of both strut assemblies. As I had to go to an independent shop for my service I sent and escalated my issue through Hyundai to no avail. So now it's March 2023, and I receive a recall (excuse me, campaign - 984) to have an underbody cavity wax and anti corrosion spray applied to prevent corrosion of components due to road salt. So, as I attempted to pont out to Hyundain in 2021, my car and perhaps many others were at risk for these potentially fatal failures. Fortunately my spring broke as I entered my garage. others may not have been so lucky. A break at high speed could take out a tire and that's the ball game. Continuing with the metaphor, Hyundai dropped the ball big time on this.

In 2016 left front coil broke and took damage to tire Hyundai took and replaced it for your charged only one coil was replaced on the car in 2019 the other coil broke customers charged $966.30 to do the repair and replace the tire Hyundai says there's no recall on the springs for this vehicle yet I did find a recall saying there was but they're telling me that the serial numbers was no recall on that

The rear suspension crossmember fractured allowing the lower suspension arm to move causing the wheel to move out at the bottom by a considerable amount. I noticed it after a short local trip. I think if I had continued driving the lower arm may have completely disconnected resulting in potential loss of control. The crossmember has significant corrosion in this area but the component should be thick enough to allow for this. The car is at my home address therefore has not been inspected by a dealer. I have contacted them and the manufacturer and neither offer any help.

Spring coil on strut broke off on passengers side of car. Sliced tired while driving. A couple years after getting that side repaired same exact thing happened on the driver's side.

Steering wheel makes clacking noise when turning left or right, especially if making sharp right angle turn or when parking. I think I noticed it first in early November 2024 while parking. Since then it has been occurring with greater frequency as well as both directions. I called a repair shop 2 weeks ago & was told it was a common problem with Hyundai's. I went to a different repair shop last Thursday, Dec 5th, 2024, for a tire repair & asked for estimate on steering issue. They told me it was a really big project to replace some sort of ball like piece & required taking the whole steering assembly apart. He said when it goes I'll loose steering & likely have an accident as a result. He said that as my car has less than 29,000 original miles on it (28,630), I should go to the Hyundai dealer as they should pay to repair it as it's a huge safety issue & shouldn't happen to such a low mileage car. I tried to go there but they'd moved & I didn't have a phone to query new location. At home I called and got VM for a man in service dept. Left msg. No one responded so I called again Fri, Dec 6, 2024 & was put throughto a differentman in the service dept's VM & left another detailed msg, this time incluing VIN#. Now is Monday 12/9/24 & still no reply. I looked online & saw there was a recall for this vehicle from 2008-2010, but nothing came up when I entered my VIN on this NHSTA site. I believe my vehicle should be included and I don't think I should have to wait until an accident has occurred, or have to spend thousands out if pocket to repair an Issue that appears to be more widespread that initially considered. Can you help please? I prefer bring proactive and not incurring any damage to life, limb & property for my self, any potential passengers, or anyone else who might be harmed should I experience power steering loss. Thank you.

A steering coupler is failing and will eventually cause a loss of steering control while driving. The steering problem was diagnosed at a local Car- X by a certified mechanic. The vehicle is available for inspection. I took the vehicle in for inspection because of a clunking and rattling vibration while driving. The rattling and clunking and vibration caused me unexpected alarm distracting my focus while driving, also I have noticed while turning right or left there's slack or oversteering. The problem started approximately two months ago. There were no warning lights.

I am not able to steer my car. I was taking my 5 year old son to school and I was not able to turn onto the street of his school. I had to slow down in traffic an forcably strain and pull the wheel to the right and pull over on the side of the road. I as very scared I was going to be hit or cause and acident. There was a recall for this problem with this car but it ended for cars that where built as of 2010, but ny car is a 2011 and the issue is still happening.

The steering coupler started making noises at about 80, 000 miles but I did not know what it was at the time . When I brought the car in at over 100,000 miles, I was informed of the loose couplet, to cost about &400 to fix andit wasn’t covered, because over the 100, 000. I did not have it fixed at that time.(I believe mileage was about 110, 00 at that point). I never received any info on this issue, and feel it should have been covered and that Hyundai should still cover it. There is approximately 128, 000 miles now.

The steering wheel recently started making a clunking sound. There is play in the wheel and it feels very unsafe to drive. It does not respond normally while turning. Seems to be a very common issue. My car is a 2011 with 55k miles on it and it is out of warranty. I wish they would make this a recall and fix it.

My car caught on fire in the parking lot of a business while I was inside of the business. The car was not started and just parked. The abs light was on since I bought the car and I had not had it looked at. I had no clue of the recall until today when this happened. The fire started under the hood somewhere. The fire department put the fire out and nothing other than that has been done. I will have a report in a few days.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE TRUNK AND FROM THE DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. SHE OPENED THE DOOR, THE AREA FROM HER DASHBOARD ALL THE WAY DOWN TO HER GEARS WAS BURNED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE POLICE ARRIVED AND BOTH FILED REPORTS. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT LET THE VEHICLE SMOKE OUT AND DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. THE VEHICLE HAD A RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V393000 (EQUIPMENT) FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE 12 VOLT ACCESSORY SOCKET LOCATED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY STILL AWAITING TO BE TOWED AWAY BY THE MANUFACTURER TO EMAIL A LETTER FOR THE CLAIM TO THE CONTACT. THE DEALER SMART HYUNDAI (1 SMART DRIVE, WHITE HALL, AR 71602 (870) 534-8122) TOLD THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,000.

THE KNOB ON TO TURN ON FAN FOR A/C STARTING TO NOT WORK UNLESS I TUNED IT ON AND OFF. THEN A FEW DAYS AGO, WHILE I WAS IDLING IN A PARKING LOT, THE KNOB GOT STUCK WITH THE A/C ON. I STARTED TO SMELL BURNING & WHEN I TRIED TO TURN IT OFF THE KNOB CAME OFF AND I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM WHERE THE KNOB WAS. I TURNED OFF MY VEHICLE, REMOVED THE FUSE FOR THE A/C AND DROVE HOME. WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE IT AND REMOVE THE OLD ONE, I NOTICED THAT THE PLUG THAT CONNECTS TO THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT IS ALSO BURNED. THE PLUG AND THE WIRES CONNECTED TO IT LEAD TO A BUNCH OF WIRES THAT ARE WIRED TOGETHER. AT THIS POINT, I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THE FUSE FOR THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT ISN'T IN. IF I LEAVE THE UNIT DISCONNECTED, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE BY HAZARDS. IF I HADN'T REMOVED THE FUSE OR IF I HAD BEEN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY OR FREEWAY THE CAR MAY HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE REPLACING THIS PART. MAYBE IT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE.

ELECTRONIC IGNITION SPORADICALLY FAILS DURING VERY COLD WEATHER. VEHICLE WAS PARKED UNDER CARPORT. UNKNOWN PART OR REASON. NO PROBLEM WITH BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR. AFTER TEMP INCREASED BY 10 DEGREES IT STARTED NORMALLY. IT WAS ABOUT 40 DEGREES EACH TIME IT HAPPENED.

I RECENTLY HAD TO SLAM MY BRAKES DUE TO A DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME. AND RIGHT AT ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE ACCELERATION TO MY CAR WHILE IN DRIVE WILL NOT GO. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND ITS READING A COUPLE OF CODES T THE SENSORS. I SAW THAT IN A SEARCH WHILE TRYING TO FIX THE ISSUE THAT IT HAS BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THE ESC. I AM VERY UPSET THAT I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL THAT IS RELATED TO MY VIN NUMBER. THIS HAPPENS AT A PARKING LOT NEAR CHUCK E CHEESE ON MY SONS BIRTHDAY AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK HOME. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE MY CAR IN A WEEK NOW BECAUSE WE ARE STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WICH SENSOR IT IS AND IF I REPLACE IT WHAT WILL EVEN HAPPEN.

I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER ON 3/21/2016 TO HAVE CAMPAIGN 137 DONE PER THE RECALL NOTICE. EVER SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED THE ESC LIGHT ON THE DASH HAS REMAINED ON. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE REFUSED TO FIX IT. I WANT TO FILE A COMPLAINT.

I was driving my 2011 Elantra, and when I needed to brake, it didn't feel the same as usual. The brake pedal felt kind of soft. After a while, when I needed to brake at an intersection, the brakes completely failed. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor, and there was no braking. My speed was about 30 mph, and I couldn't stop. I was really lucky that there were no other cars at the intersection, and I just passed the stop sign without stopping. I was so scared. I didn't understand what happened and immediately changed my plans to drive home. Luckily, I was only a few minutes away. I used the hand brake for the rest of the drive. After I parked the car, I saw brake fluid leaking at the bottom, and when I moved the plastic cover, I saw that the brake line was completely rusty.

I received a recall notice some time ago about the ABS issue (251) Although they mention you can still drive the vehicle you shouldn’t park near buildings. I have a driveway and do not feel compelled parking car in the street where a potential vehicle fire could harm my neighbors. It is taking far too long for a remedy in this case. I would like for Hyundai to get this resolved. Right now I have disconnected the battery for fear of fire. Luckily i currently have another vehicle to drive.

We received notice from Hyundai in mid-November about the anti-lock brake system modules problem (could leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short over time. This increases the risk of an engine compartment fire while parked or driving) There is still no date for fixing this problem. We now need to park this car outside our garage, which increases the risk of the car being stolen.

MY RECENT FACEBOOK POST: HYUNDAI OWNERS BEWARE. HYUNDAI CURRENTLY HAS 3 RECALLS THAT AFFECT MY CAR BY PRODUCTION DATE, YET THERE ARE "NO OPEN SAFETY RECALLS OR SERVICE CAMPAIGNS FOR THIS VEHICLE". THE SAME LAST YEAR WHEN WE TRIED TO CORRECT THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION HARNESS ISSUE - IT SOMEHOW DIDN'T APPLY TO OUR VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THE PART NUMBER WAS IDENTICAL TO THAT WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. NOW THERE'S A NEW ISSUE - THE VACUUM ASSISTED BRAKE BOOSTER CANNISTER FAILED DUE TO ROT/PERFORATION , RESULTING IN BRAKE FAILURE. OKAY FOLKS, ARE WE SEEING A PATTERN HERE? SOMETHING LIKE THIS: INDUSTRIAL MONEY MATTERS, YOU DON'T. BUY OUR CRAP, BUY MORE OF IT, KEEP ON BUYING. WE FOLLOW THE RULES, YET WE DON'T. WE MAKE 155,000 CARS IN A CALENDAR YEAR AND YOU GET TO PAY FOR OUR MISTAKES BECAUSE GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS ARE DESIGNED IN THE MANUFACTURER'S FAVOR - THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS ABOUT YOU.

BRAKE PEDDLE SEEMS TO COLLAPSE PARTIALLY WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES AS IF THE MASTER CYLINDER IS FAILING, BUT IT REMAINS AN ISSUE EVEN WITH A NEW MASTER CYLINDER. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ABS SYSTEM.

I FOUND A FLAT TIRE ON MY FRONT RIGHT TIRE YESTERDAY AS IT WAS SITTING STATIONARY IN MY WORK PARKING LOT. (19MAY2016). UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT MY WHEEL/RIM WAS CRACKED AND DENTED. I DID NOT HIT A POTHOLE, RUN OFF THE ROAD, HAVE A WRECK, ETC.. SO THERE IS NO REASON IT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.

ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THE TIRES BLOW OUT OR GET A LARGE BULGE IN THE SIDEWALL. AND THE RIMS ALSO BEND. THE LITTLEST POTHOLE OR BUMP WILL CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT BRAND OF TIRE I PUT ON THE CAR THE SAME THING STILL KEEPS HAPPENING.,BLOW OUT AFTER BLOWOUT.THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE WHEELS WERE TOO LARGE FOR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

IN LATE NOVEMBER THE TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR CAME ON. I PUMPED UP THE TIRE. IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN SEVERAL DAYS LATER. THE CAR HAS MICHELIN ALL SEASON RADIALS THAT I HAD INSTALLED IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR. I ASSUMED THAT I HAD PICKED UP A NAIL OR SOMETHING SIMILAR, SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO SAM'S CLUB TO HAVE THE TIRE REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD THEY HAD BAD NEWS AND BAD NEWS. THE WORST WAS THAT THEY COULD NOR REPAIR IT, BECAUSE THE RIM IS CRACKED! THEY SHOWED THE WHEEL TO ME. THE CRACK IS ON THE INSIDE RIM AND THERE IS NO OTHER EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE. I HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH FAILURE ANALYSIS. THIS APPEARS TO BE A STRESS FACTURE, POSSIBLY THE RESULT OF A MATERIALS DEFECT OR A DESIGN FLAW. (THIS IS A EXTREMELY LOW PROFILE 17' WHEEL/TIRE COMBINATION.) The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics who diagnosed that the engine and battery needed to be replaced. The dealer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. YOU MAY TRY A SECOND OR SIXTH TIME, AND THE VEHICLE WILL START AND RUN NORMALLY. IT MAY BE FINE FOR A DAY OR TWO, THEN HAVE PROBLEMS AGAIN EVEN SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. SHIFTING INTO REVERSE OR NEUTRAL, THEN BACK INTO PARK SEEMS TO HELP, BUT ONLY THAT TIME. AFTER INITIAL PROBLEM TEN MONTHS AGO, CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR TESTING. IN MAY 2014 WHILE UTILIZING THE CRUISE CONTROL,APPLYING THE BRAKES DID NOT DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL EVEN WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS BRAKING TO DECREASE SPEED AS WE WERE ENTERING BASTROP, TX ON HWY 71. IT TOOK US BY SURPRISE, AND MY HUSBAND FINALLY MANAGED TO BRING THE CAR UNDER CONTROL BY PRESSING THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGE BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE CAR, AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. ON SUNDAY, NOV. 27, 2016, WE WERE USING THE CRUISE CONTROL WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON HWY 79 APPROACHING HEARNE, TX. THE CAR IN FRONT OF US SLOWED, AND MY HUSBAND BRAKED TO SLOW DOWN AS WELL, BUT IT SEEMED THAT THE CAR ACTUALLY SPED UP. HE LOOKED DOWN TO BE SURE THAT HE HIT THE BRAKE AND NOT THE ACCELERATOR. BY THE TIME HE LOOKED UP, WE WERE ABOUT TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US. HE HIT THE BRAKES HARDER, AND THE CAR SEEMED TO SPEED UP AGAIN. MY HUSBAND SWERVED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF US, BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER VEHICLE NEXT TO US IN THE LANE TO OUR LEFT. FORTUNATELY, THE DRIVERS OF THE OTHER VEHICLES MANAGED TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE LEFT SO THAT WE HAD ROOM TO PASS BETWEEN THE TWO VEHICLES. OUR BRAKES WERE SQUEALING, BUT THE CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. FINALLY MY HUSBAND MANAGED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD SO THAT WE COULD COLLECT OUR COMPOSURE. I RETURNED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN ROUND ROCK ON NOVEMBER 29. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE ISSUE FIXED. I KNOW THAT HYUNDAI AND KIA HAVE HAD RECALLS FOR DEFECTIVE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCHES ON OTHER MODELS, MODEL YEARS, AND I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF THE SAME TYPE ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. IT IS TRULY A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I THINK THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD FIX THIS AGAIN ON MY VEHICLE AT NO CHARGE.

WHEN ACCELERATING, THE ENGINE DOES NOT ALWAYS DE-ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS RELEASED. THIS IS SPORADIC AND UNPREDICTABLE. OUR MECHANIC THINKS IT IS A FAULT IN THE THROTTLE BODY. IT IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE AFTER ACCELERATING THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE FOR UP TO 10 SECONDS AFTER MY FOOT IS OFF THE GAS PEDAL. WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT OF A DRUG STORE FOR MAYBE 10 MINUTES. STARTED THE CAR AND BACKED OUT OF PARKING SPACE. WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE TO GO FORWARD THE CAR ACCELERATED TO A VERY HIGH SPEED AND RAN INTO TWO PARKED CARS. I have had broken shocks and struts on my 2011 Hyundai Elantra Liminted, currently 69000 miles 2 times, once replaced by dealership 2nd done by BIG O Tires in Salt Lake, I did not have a breakdown, my tire blew the first time 12/26/2015, currently was caught by general tire mainainance. This must be some kind of a defect due to have them replace them so often. 2 incidents 12/26/2015 and 10/12/2022. I take very very good care of my car. I have read the issues of prior. I WAS TRAVELING TO MEMPHIS, TN. THE REAR END OF THE CAR WOULD CONSTANTLY JERK OUT TOT THE LEFT WHEN I WOULD HIT BUMPS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A NORMAL REACTION FOR THIS KIND OF SUSPENSION. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CONSTANT, AND DURING THE WINTER, IT TRIED TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL. MY 2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA IS UNDER HYUNDAI RECALL 137. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR REGULAR SERVICE SINCE 8/31/16. I MENTIONED THE ESC WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR INDICATED IT WOULD REQUIRE DIAGNOSTICS AT AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND ESTIMATED BY PHONE THE REPAIR WOULD BE ABOUT $1,700 BECAUSE THE YAW SENSOR OF THE ESC SYSTEM HAD FAILED AND DAMAGED THE STEERING COLUMN NOW NEEDING REPLACEMENT. I ASKED THEY REQUEST A GOODWILL REPAIR SINCE THE CAR WAS JUST OUT OF THE 5 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMBER WARRANTY AND AWAITED NOTICE. MEANWHILE I REVIEWED THE INTERNET FOR THE HYUNDAI REPAIR ISSUES AND FOUND MY CAR WAS ON HYUNDAI RECALL 137 FOR THE ESC SYSTEM. I NOTED THE DEALERS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE REPAIRNING THIS ISSUE AT NO CHARGE TO CUSTOMERS UNDER THE RECALL. MY DEALER HAD NOT ADVISED ME MY CAR WAS UNDER RECALL NOR MADE MENTION UNTIL I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER. I STARTED THE CAR AND COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT APPLYING HEAVY FORCE. LOOKING AT THE DASH BOARD THE ESC AND EPS LIGHTS WERE BOTH ON. I TURNED OF THE CAR AND RESTARTED AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. A FEW DAYS AGO I SAW THE RECALL OF THE 2009 AND 2010 CARS REGARDING THIS VERY PROBLEM. My car stalls while in motion without warning. While driving the vehicle will randomly speed up and rpm will fly up without command. I also experience a lot of engine power loss randomly the vehicle will bog and be slow. Occasionally when I press on the accelerator I can almost go to the floor with no response from the vehicle. Speed acceleration response is delayed approximately 30 seconds occasionally. Uncommanded acceleration and random stalling when vehicle is in motion has been a big safety risk for me. This issue has been ongoing for awhile. This issue has occurred countless times so it’s very frequent. This complaint is in compliance with the current open investigation regarding the throttle control system vulnerabilities. NHTSA Action Number: DP21003

I WAS TURNING FROM GAS STATION ONTO ROAD, CROSSING 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC WHEN VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND I WAS NEARLY BROAD-SIDED. Brake pedal stopper deterioration. The brake pedal stopper pad deteriorates, allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. If the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights stay illuminated, preventing accurate communication to following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of "park" without depressing the brake pedal. Consequently, the risk of a crash increases with either condition. This is an issue Hyundai has had to recall other models/years for! This issue drained my battery completely and I had to pay $60 out of pocket to figure out what was going on. The brake pedal stopper pad is just $1.80 USD at the dealership. Hub Hyundai wanted to charge me $80 initially to install it, when they DID NOT report this problem to me when they "inspected" my car on 08-10-21, I took it to them because of another recall on my vehicle. They supposedly "inspected" my car and gave me a list of repairs "needed" which didn't include this issue. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure occurred. This happened on 08-27-21. It was my neighbor who told me the lights on my car were on all night! I usually don't go out at night, no way to notice they were not turning off. No wonder why my battery got drained!

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the rear brake lights failed to illuminate while depressing the brake pedal. Upon inspection, it was discovered that all three brake lights were inoperable. The contact replaced the bulbs and the pedal switch however, the failure persisted. In addition, the traction control warning light remains illuminated while operating the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

DURING THE PAST THREE YEARS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS LIGHTS, DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS AT LEAST EVERY THREE MONTHS AND WHEN REMOVING THE BULBS THEY ARE HARD TO GET OUT AND THE CONNECTOR IS MELTED AND BURNT. THE TURN SIGNALS WILL SHORT OUT AND THEN WORK AGAIN REGULARLY WHILE IN MOTION AND STATIONARY.

ON OR AROUND MAY 29, I NOTICED SOME RUST SPOTS IN THE HOOD OF MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2011. BEING A 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE, RUST IT SOMETHING THAT I WOULDN'T EXPECT. SO I TOOK IT TO GLOBAL AUTO MALL IN NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, ON JUNE 12, 2013 TO HAVE THE ISSUE INSPECTED AND, I HOPED, RESOLVED. AFTER PATIENTLY AWAITING FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS, I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING DIAGNOSE: "PAINT CHIP DUE TO IMPACT FROM ROCK KICKING UP ON VEHICLE". I STRESSED TO BOTH THE SERVICER ADVISOR, [XXX], AND THE PERSON THAT WORKED ON THE ISSUE, [XXX], THAT I COULD NOT BELIEVE A SIMPLE ROCK HITTING A HOOD OF THE CAR COULD CAUSE RUST DAMAGE. WE'VE DRIVEN THE SANTA FE FOR ALMOST 7 YEARS AND IT HAS NO RUST STAINS AT ALL, EVEN THOUGHT ROCKS HAVE HIT THE HOOD AND OTHER PARTS OF THE SANTA FE QUITE A FEW TIMES. FURTHERMORE, ROCKS HAVE HIT A FEW TIMES OTHER PARTS OF THE ELANTRA BODY AND THE REST OF THE BODY SHOWS NO RUST DAMAGE. I DO BELIEVE IT'S UNACCEPTABLE FOR A 2 YEAR CAR TO HAVE RUST DAMAGE. SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2011 I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MICE GETTING INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE IN SPITE OF ALWAYS CLOSING ALL WINDOWS AND DOORS. I HAVE ALSO HEARD OF A COWORKER'S FAMILY MEMBER WHO HAD THE SAME CAR AND THE SAME PROBLEM. ADDITIONALLY THERE WAS A SIMILAR COMPLAINT FILED RECENTLY WITH NHTSA (ODI ID NUMBER : 10477843). AT EVERY SERVICE STOP, I WOULD ASK IF THERE WAS ANY TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS SENT BY HYUNDAI FOR THE ISSUE. ON WED, 10/17 WHEN I GOT INTO MY CAR TO GO TO WORK, THERE WAS A MOUSE ON THE DASHBOARD INCHES AWAY FROM ME. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE AND THAT I WANTED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THEM LOCATE THE PLACE WHERE THE MICE ARE GETTING IN. I WAS AMAZED WHEN THEY SHOWED ME A LARGE OPENING IN THE METAL FIREWALL FOR THE CABIN AIR FILTER RIGHT NEXT TO A LARGE GAP IN THE COWL MEANT TO COVER IT. THAT DESIGN ALLOWS A RODENT, LIKE A MOUSE, UNINHIBITED ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE CABIN WITHOUT ANY NEED TO DAMAGE OR CHEW THE COWL TO GET IN. I SUPPLIED FOIL TAPE AND ALUMINUM SCREENING TO CORRECT THE FLAW, BUT I HAD TO PAY A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT FOR THE LABOR TO DO SO. I FILED A DISPUTE WITH HYUNDAI USA AND IT WAS DECLINED, MEANING THEY THOUGHT IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THEIR DESIGN OVERSIGHT. REAR WINDOW HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN MORE BLURRED AND MOTTLED, REDUCING VISIBILITY. AT THIS POINT THE ONLY CLEAR PART IS A SMALL SECTION IN THE MIDDLE. APPROXIMATELY OVER 3/4 OF WINDOW IS BLURRY AT PRESENT. THIS BEGAN OVER 3 YEARS AGO AND WORKED ITS WAY FROM THE OUTSIDE TOWARDS THE MIDDLE.

TODAY (7/26/13), I NEARLY HIT A WOMAN IN A PARKING LOT WHO WAS PERFECTLY POSITIONED IN THE SAME BLIND SPOT. THE BLIND SPOT IS THE SUPPORT BEAM THE IS LOCATED BETWEEN THE DRIVERS WINDOW AND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT I MAY ONE DAY END UP HITTING AND INJURING SOMEONE AS A NEARLY DID TODAY. HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH TIRE WEAR ON THE 17 INCH TIRE PROVIDED WITH THE 2011 ELANTRA LIMITED. EVERY OTHER TIRE SET I HAVE PURCHASED FOR OTHER VEHICLES WOULD LAST 40-50K MILES OR MORE, BUT WITH THIS CAR, I WAS ONLY GETTING ~25K MILES PER SET. I WAS ON MY THIRD SET OF TIRES(NOT DISCOUNT TIRES, THREE DIFFERENT BRANDS AS WELL) WITH ONLY ~78K MILES WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE HAD A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT. I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE PURCHASED A SPARE (THE DEALER LIED AND TOLD ME IT HAD A SPARE WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR). Had oil changed at Take 5 recently as always do. 2 weeks later car cut off 3 times in traffic. Engine light came on. Car started to lose power/acceleration and engine began to make a ticking/knocking sound. I checked the oil and none was in it. I added 4 quarts to see would that help. It did not.

CITY DRIVING; THERE WAS THE USUAL AMOUNT OF "STOP AND GO". AS I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, I NOTICED SOME SMOKE/STEAM COMING FROM SOMEWHERE OUTSIDE MY CAR. I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER LOOKING AT MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE TO SEE IF IT WAS RUNNING HOT; BUT IT WAS STILL IN THE NORMAL RANGE. I ASSUMED IT WAS COMING FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE AROUND ME. THE NEXT TIME I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, I SAW THE SMOKE/STEAM AGAIN; THIS TIME I NOTICED THE DISTINCT "SWEET" SMELL ASSOCIATED TO A VEHICLE OVERHEATING. MY TEMP GAUGE WAS STILL REGISTERING AS NORMAL, BUT IT WAS CLEAR IT WAS COMING FROM MY VEHICLE. I TURNED THE HEAT ON UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO THE NEXT AVAILABLE PARKING LOT TO TURN OFF MY CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES. AFTER RESTARTING IT, THE TEMP GAUGE REGISTERED AS NORMAL AGAIN, SO I DROVE OFF. SHORTLY AFTER, THE TEMP GAUGE STARTED TO REGISTER THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND SMOKE/STEAM WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. JUST AS I WAS PULLING INTO ANOTHER PARKING LOT, THE TEMP GAUGE SPIKED. AFTER I PARKED AND LET THE ENGINE COOL A BIT, I OPENED THE HOOD AND IT WAS CLEAR THAT A HOSE OR SOMETHING HAD BURST; THERE WAS COOLANT SPEWED EVERYWHERE AND I SAW A SMALL HOLE IN ONE OF THE HOSES. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP; AFTER LOOKING AT IT, THEY SAID THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE SOME OIL/FLUID HAD BACKED UP INTO IT, APPARENTLY AT SOME POINT DURING THAT ORDEAL. I BELIEVE ONE OF TWO THINGS TO BE THE CAUSE: EITHER THE TEMP GAUGE/COMPONENT FAILED, THEREFORE NOT NOTIFYING ME OF THE ENGINE OVERHEATING; OR THE ENGINE WAS FAULTY. MY "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS NOT ON, AND DID NOT COME ON UNTIL AFTER THE TEMP GAUGE SPIKED. THIS ISSUE COST ME A TOTAL OF NEARLY $6000 IN REPAIRS, INCLUDING A NEW ENGINE AND THE COMPONENT THAT "TALKS" TO THE TEMP GAUGE. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD; I BOUGHT IT USED AND HAD LESS THAN 2 YEARS.

FRONTAL AIR BAS WERE DESIGNED TO DEPLOY WHEN A VEHICLE SUSTAINED A SUFFICIENT FORWARD DECELERATION TO TRIGGER THE AIR BAG SENSOR. Our car failed inspection due to a safety issue. Two seats belt are frayed. The photo shows the center belt is frayed where it enters the back seat. The Hyundai dealer wanted more than $1,000 to replace. I went to a local auto wrecker for a used replacements. He had two 2011 Hyundai Elanrtas. Both had the same seat belt damage on the center seat belt. The center belt has been used very little over the life of the car. Since all three vehicles had the same damage it appears that this is not due to normal wear and tear. I feel that Hyundai should replace the seat belt at no cost

UnKnown. When financing the vehicle through Adonis Auto Group I was unaware of the unrepaired safety recall. Also I am under the impression nothing was done to the car before purchasing it, I have had to make repairs to the car only after 10,000 - 15,000 miles of driving. For example replacing the control arm, axle, brake hardware. My point is they are selling cars without repairing them and not advising the customer upon purchase. I also asked for the repair paperwork for what has been done to the car before purchase and never received it.

DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TOO TIGHT/DEFECTIVE AND THERE IS A 50/50 CHANCE AIRBAGS WILL DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. MY VEHICLE JUST WENT OUT OF BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. IF THERE IS ANY QUESTION THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY DUE TO THIS MANUFACTURING ISSUE THEN I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL.

THE 2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA 1.8LITER ENGINE MAKES A GRINDING THEN WHINING NOISE IN THE FIRST FEW SECONDS OF THE FIRST COLD ENGINE START OF THE DAY. ON THE DAY OF SALES DELIVERY THE VEHICLE MADE THIS NOISE FOR AT LEAST TWO MINUTES WHICH PROMPTED ME TO ALERT THE SALESMAN AND LIFT THE HOOD FOR CLOSER INSPECTION. My car was recalled by Hyundai for a critical safety issue and has been at the dealership since July of 2024 awaiting repairs due to missing parts. Despite repeated follow-ups, Hyundai has been unable to provide a timeline for the repair. Recently, they offered to buy back the car, but the offer was far below its fair market value. When I declined, they stated they would return the car to me unfixed and unsafe. This situation has caused significant inconvenience and feels coercive, as I am forced to choose between accepting an unfair buyback or taking back an unsafe vehicle. I am seeking NHTSA's assistance to ensure Hyundai repairs the vehicle promptly, investigates their handling of recalls, and protects consumers from being placed in such unfair situations.

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, a fellow motorist alerted the contact that the vehicle was smoking. The contact pulled over and waited for an extensive period before restarting the vehicle. The contact was able to drive to the destination while driving at a slow speed. The contact stated that the ABS warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel since owning the vehicle. The contact also stated that the vehicle stalled upon depression of the accelerator pedal while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the recall was not serviced due to poor customer service. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.

Starting in the summer of 2023 my car started making screeching noises when applying brakes, turning, etc. All 4 brakes and rotors were replaced. My car continues to screech. More concerning is that the steering wheel started clicking when turning in the Fall of 2023 and has progressively worsened, now clicking whenever moved left or right even a few inches. The steering feels very loose. Although the car is a 2011, it only has 36,000 original miles on it. This is very frustrating and feels very unsafe to drive. Repair/evaluation appointment with the dealership is scheduled for 2/1/24 to see what they say. My issues sounds VERY familiar to many other complaints on here and from other research I have done. I am not sure why this is not a recall to correct this common problem in the Elantra. Other Hyundai models have had steering column recalls. I see that the rubber coupling warranty in the power steering assembly was extended to 10 yrs/100,000 miles, however I was never informed of any safety or warranty issues when purchasing this vehicle in early February of 2020 which would have been within the 10 years. Extra disappointing is that the previous 2 owners were the sales manager and general manager of the dealership where I purchased it from.

My safety was a risk on August 25th as I was driving back home from work. As I was about to make a right turn, the wheel was hard to turn for second which resulted in me making a wider turn. Thankfully no other cars were around. As I parked, the wheel would swing back and forth and make a swishing sound when touched. A couple of weeks prior to the incident, I had a family friend conduct an oil change. I had mention to him about my steering wheel problem and my tire light being on— all of these problems started at the end of July). He said the steering issue is not normal and not good at all since it ruined the front of my tires. He said in order to fix the tires, I would have to get the steering problem checked and fixed first. He and my warranty recommend me to go to a certified mechanic since he didn’t have the tools to properly diagnose and that I can get it fix through my warranty. After going to United Service Automative, the certified mechanic told me that his diagnosis was pointing to errors in the electrical steering wheel system. Unfortunately, I had to pay for the inspection since my warranty said they couldn’t fix it. The certified mechanic recommended me to go to the actual manufacturer/dealer to get it checked. I have made several calls to Lithia Hyundai of Fresno about this issue since August 24th. I talked about to at least 4 employees that this is a safety concern. Answers I got back were “By appointment your car cannot be seen until January 2024…you can walk-in but we cannot guarantee your car will be looked at and can actually sit in the shop for a week or more until we look at it.” I have been also hanged up on twice and had to go through the sales department. No one seems to be taking me serious or taking precautious measures. I will be doing a walk-in on Monday, August 28th, 2023 requesting a safety inspection and how can I get the car fixed since I am still paying off the car.

The power steering stopped working while driving in 2019. The steering wheel jolted 1-2", the EPS light blinked and then remained lit. Maintaining control of the vehicle was strenuous, making it impossible to quickly maneuver, especially at low speeds. Safety of the driver and others on the roadways was negatively impacted by the sudden malfunction. The power steering became intermittent while driving, then completely failed. The vehicle was serviced by a Hyundai dealer/service department for diagnostics, but a diagnosis was inconclusive. To remedy, it was recommended to replace the power steering module. This was done, and it provided temporary resolution. Power steering suddenly became intermittent again. Another diagnostic appointment suggested to replace the entire steering column. This has not been done. There was no warning that the power steering would fail. The vehicle is available for power steering inspection upon request. Electronic issues are persistent, effecting multiple areas of the vehicle. The headlights and taillights have gone out much more frequently than expected. The airbag sensor light has recently illuminated. The Tire pressure sensor blinks, then remains illuminated. The Electronic Stability Control Indicator has been illuminated since the power steering failure. This vehicle has had multiple issues arise, and it has had thousands of dollars of work put into it in an attempt to return it to a safely driving vehicle. It is unacceptable for the manufacturer to sell a car that cannot uphold basic safety standards. There have been multiple recalls for power steering issues on Hyundai's surrounding this 2011 model. Clearly there is an issue that needs to be addressed, and Hyundai needs to be held accountable for their negligence. All owners should be entitled to have their vehicle promptly repaired at no cost, and they should be reimbursed for time and repair costs spent trying to resolve this avoidable issue.

El carro aveces pone los frenos muy duros y no se detiene. El mismo se acelera solo y en otras ocasiones baja las revoluciones hasta apagarse. Aveces comienza a temblar y prende la luz de check. Aún desconozco si ha sido evaluado anteriormente por algún especialista. También el mismo demora en prender algunas veces. Me gustaría saber si el mismo puede ser evaluado por algún y especialista ya que entiendo que no es muy seguro el mismo. THE PROBLEM LIES IN THE DEFECT OF THE POWER STEERING COUPLER ON HYUNDAI ELANTRA MODELS THAT AFFECTS TIRES, STEERING, BALANCING, ALIGNMENT. THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT AND HAS EITHER REPAIRED OR REIMBURSED OWNERS OF HYUNDAI ELANTRA FOR THE DEFECT UP TO 100,000 MILES OR 120,000 MILES WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY. I PURCHASED THE ELANTRA AT 89,000 MILES AND INQUIRED ABOUT A NOISE IN THE CAR. THE DEALER IGNORED IT, AND THE CARFAX DID NOT HAVE ANY MENTION OF THE DEFECT. NO CRUISE CONTROL, I CAN'T RESET MY TRIP ODOMETER, I CAN'T CONTROL THE VOLUME FOR MY RADIO, NOR CAN I CONTROL THE BLUETOOTH FOR MY HANDS FREE USAGE. WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WOULD BE A FEE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM LOOKED AT, BUT SAW A HYUNDAI MECHANIC BY CHANCE IN A GAS STATION AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CLOCK SPRING COULD BE FAULTY. AS NOTED ON THE HYUNDAI BLOGS, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND FOLKS ARE JUST WAITING FOR A CLASS ACTION OR RECALL ACTION TO HAPPEN. I TRIED GETTING THE VEHICLE CHECKED OUT AT A DEALER, AND I WAS TOLD "I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT MANY OF THE ELANTRA'S COME FROM FACTORY MAKING THAT NOISE, AND WE DON'T KNOW WHY. OBVIOUSLY, IF IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, THEN HYUNDAI WOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL BY NOW." I WAS UPSET BY THIS STATEMENT, BECAUSE IT DOES CAUSE MY VEHICLE TO JERK WHEN I AM ACCELERATING AND BREAKING, AS WELL AS OTHER STRANGE THINGS, SO I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE HERE. I DID BUY THIS VEHICLE PRE-OWNED, AND IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA HAS AN INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS HARD TO DUPLICATE. THE SOLUTION REQUIRES VARIOUS ATTEMPTS AT TRYING THE START SWITCH ALONG WITH THE MOVEMENT OF SHIFT LEVER. THIS BECOMES A SAFETY PROBLEM SINCE IT REQUIRES NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO MOVE SHIFT LEVER FROM PARK TO NEUTRAL POSITION. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START VEHICLE AFTER A NUMBER OF TIMES THE POWER BRAKES TAKE EXTREME PRESSURE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING. AT TIMES, THE SHIFT LEVER WILL NOT MOVE PROPERLY OUT OF THE PARK POSITION AND STILL NOT START. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE LOCAL HYUNDAI SERVICE WARNED ME IF PROBLEM CANNOT BE DUPLICATED OWNERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND SERVICE COSTS THAT WOULD LIKELY BE $200 OR MORE. ON ONE OCCASION THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE FOR ABOUT A WEEK ALONG WITH DAILY ATTEMPTS AT TRYING TO START THE CAR DID NOT START THE ENGINE. FINALLY IT STARTED AND DID NOT HAVE PROBLEMS DURING THE COMPLETE SUMMER, BUT ONCE THE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN BELOW 40-50 DEGREES F PROBLEMS OCCURRED. I AM VERY LEERY AT ALLOWING OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS TO OPERATE VEHICLE SINCE SOME MAY HAVE DIFFICULTY IN APPLYING THE LARGE AMOUNT OF BRAKING FORCE TO STOP VEHICLE FROM MOVING ON AN INCLINE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START VEHICLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES HAD BEEN LEAKING FLUID OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED AND THE FLUID WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE BRAKE LINE WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN WHERE THE BRAKE CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED. AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, FLAMES APPEARED FROM THE EXHAUST. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED AND SMOKE BEGAN TO FLOW FROM THE EXHAUST AND ENGINE. THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED DURING THE FIRST TWO FAILURES AND, DURING THE LAST TWO FAILURES, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 5 PM ON A PARTLY CLOUDY DAY THAT WAS NOT PARTICULARLY HOT (~94F) FOR THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY. I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS WHEN I SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD "BOOM" SIMILAR TO A SHOTGUN BLAST COME FROM THE ROOF OF MY CAR. I MADE MY WAY OFF THE INTERSTATE ONTO THE FEEDER ROAD AS QUICKLY AS I COULD. UPON GETTING OUT OF THE CAR I FOUND THAT MY SUNROOF HAD SEEMINGLY EXPLODED. ABOUT 75% OF THE GLASS WAS GONE. SOME GLASS FRAGMENTS WERE LAYING ON THE SUN VISOR (AS I HAD THE SUN VISOR CLOSED AT THE TIME), BUT MOST OF THE GLASS WAS PRESUMABLY ALONG THE INTERSTATE SOMEWHERE. THE GLASS BROKE INTO THOUSANDS OF TINY GLASS FRAGMENTS. THE GLASS THAT REMAINED WAS COMPLETELY CRACKED DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE TEMPERED GLASS. THE PIECES OF GLASS ALONG FRACTURE BOUNDARY WERE STICKING UP IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE GLASS MUST HAVE BROKEN IN AN OUTWARD DIRECTION. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE SUN VISOR. BOTH OF THESE PIECES OF EVIDENCE ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT I DID NOT SEE ANYTHING JUST PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT SHOW THAT THE SUNROOF COULD NOT HAVE BEEN SHATTERED BY AN IMPACT FROM DEBRIS. THE DEBRIS WOULD HAVE HAD TO HAVE BEEN SUBSTANTIALLY MASSIVE TO CAUSE SUCH DAMAGE TO THE GLASS. IT WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY DAMAGED THE SUN VISOR AS WELL. IN ADDITION, THE GLASS COULD NOT HAVE FLOWN OUTWARD AFTER AN INWARD IMPACT FROM DEBRIS. THIS INCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY EITHER FAULTY MATERIALS USED FOR GLASS OR IMPROPER DESIGN THAT DID NOT ACCOUNT FOR ALL LOADS THAT COULD BE APPLIED TO THE GLASS. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BY STARTLING ME AS THE DRIVER ON THE INTERSTATE. ALSO, THE RESIDUAL GLASS COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN INJURY TO THE DRIVER OR PASSENGERS IN THE CAR IF THE SUN VISOR HAD NOT BEEN CLOSED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. *TR

ON MARCH 07, 2014, MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA WAS HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BY A LARGE JEEP. WE TOOK OUR 17 YEAR OLD GRANDSON TO THE HOSPITAL TO BE CHECKED OUT BECAUSE OF A HEADACHE BUT OTHER THAN THAT THERE WERE NO INJURIES. 2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. LAWYER WRITES REGARDING NOTICE OF CLAIM UNDER THE LEMON LAW ON BEHALF OF CLIENTS *TGW THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO RETRIEVE THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER INFORMED HIM, THEY DAMAGED THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE ECM. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS WOULD BLINK OFF AND ON RANDOMLY. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS NO WAY FOR THE CONSUMER TO KNOW IF THE OIL PRESSURE, RPM'S, TIRE PRESSURE OR ENGINE TEMPERATURE WERE WITHIN SAFE LIMITS. THE CRUISE CONTROL AND MILES PER GALLON DID NOT WORK EITHER. ALSO, THERE WAS NO WAY TO TELL IF THE ABS WAS WORKING. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE THE ECM ONCE AGAIN. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE AGAIN, FROM A DIFFERENT DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE WRONG COMPUTER MODULE HAD BEEN INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, WHEN IT IS ON AND I AM AT A STOPLIGHT (ONLY AT A STOPLIGHT OR WAITING AT IDLE WITH THE CAR IN DRIVE), WHENEVER THE COMPRESSOR CYCLES ON/OFF, MY CAR WILL SLOWLY MOVE FORWARD (AND BRAKE PEDAL SINKS A LITTLE). I HAVE TO PUSH ON THE BRAKES EVEN HARDER TO KEEP THE CAR FROM MOVING. THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW TIMES WHEN I'VE ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE PEDAL ONLY SINKS AN INCH OR TWO AND IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE A/C COMPRESSOR CYCLES. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERYDAY OR AT EVERY STOP LIGHT, BUT IT HAPPENS AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK DURING MY WORK COMMUTE, AND I FIGURED IT'S WORTH MENTIONING. *TR

DRY DAY, NORMAL ACCELERATION, TRACTION CONTROL KILLED POWER UPON ENTERING HIGHWAY TRAFFIC LEAVING US SITTING IN 50-55 MPH TRAFFIC, THEN CLEARED UP, TWICE WITHIN 3 HOURS. ALSO ON SAME DAY, 60 MPH ON A TWO LANE ROAD THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND APPLIED THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE PULLING ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, I REACTED QUICKLY AND BROUGHT AUTO BACK TO MY LANE AND TURNED OFF SKID CONTROL. THIS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE.FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC. THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON THEN WENT BACK OUT BOTH TIMES. ONE FAILURE SEEMED TO BE THE TRACTION CONTROL, THE OTHER WAS THE SKID CONTROL. I SUSPECT A BAD WHEEL SPEED SENDING UNIT. SO FAR THE DEALER HAS FOUND NOTHING. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CONTACT ABRUPTLY APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE SHIFTED ABNORMALLY TO THE RIGHT LANE. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND THE MANUFACTURER AGREED HOWEVER, TOOK A COMPLAINT ON THE CONTACTS BEHALF BUT PROVIDED NOT FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10.
