There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the power steering coupling needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

THEIR RESPONSE AS FOLLOWS " WE HAVE RECEIVED YOUR EMAIL REGARDING WHEN YOU WILL RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE FOR YOUR 2008 ELANTRA. AFTER RESEARCHING YOUR CONCERN WE HAVE DETERMINED THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT AFFECTED BY CAMPAIGN 086 FOR THE FUEL FILTER. FUEL PUMPS INSTALLED IN VEHICLES PRIOR TO NOVEMBER 5, 2007, AND SINCE JUNE 28, 2008, WERE MANUFACTURED WITH UPPER BODY COMPONENTS THAT MAINTAIN PROPER ARMATURE ALIGNMENT. While making a U-turn in a parking lot I accidentally ran over a pothole. Upon doing so the driver's airbag deployed burning a hole through my shirt and leaving burns on my stomach and arms. No other part of the vehicle was affected.

IN MARCH OF THIS YR, A FRIEND INFORMED ME THAT MY DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT WAS OUT. I HAD THE BULB REPLACED & THEN GOT A NOTICE ABOUT THE RECALL. THE WORK WAS PERFORMED IN JUNE (REPLACEMENT OF A STOP SWITCH I BELIEVE IS WHAT IT WAS CALLED)..........LAST WEEK I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS THAT I FELT WERE RECALL RELATED. This unit was purchased from RockAuto in July 2023; they sent another defective product. When the rear engine mount was installed on the subframe--one bolt was not getting tight and a bolt inside the unit was already broken. This may have caused the disjointed connection for this rear engine mount.

The company, RockAuto, knowingly has many content quality errors describing automobile parts. This is a general safety concern to the general public because my rack and pinion set initially on the website said it came with both inner as well as outer tie rods. The rack and pinion set only came with inner tie rods with outer tie rods to be purchased separately. The company refunded the outer tie rods by giving a store credit.

Our car was sitting under our carport and got know on door that our car was on fire! We call 911 the cam and put fire ot that had also taken all the siding off the side of the house. Firemen said fire started under hood they thought. We believe that this fire was caused by a short circuit in abs module. We looked at recalls tonight and found this out.

THE FIRE WAS COMING FROM BEHIND THE BATTERY. WE QUICKLY CALLED 911. MY CAR IS TOTALED. I ONLY HAD PIP INSURANCE AND I AM CURRENTLY WITHOUT A VEHICLE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALLS BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A PRIVATE OWNER IN 2009 OR 2010. PICTURES ARE ATTATCHED. The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while idling at a stop sign, the RPMs dropped extremely low, and the vehicle stalled. After a visual inspection, the contact observed white smoke coming from the engine compartment and a coolant leak underneath the vehicle. Upon restarting the vehicle, the vehicle seemed to return to normal functionality. The contact stated that the failure became a regular issue over the next 6 months. No warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. Later, the vehicle was taken to a second independent mechanic, who also failed to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 127,000.

THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME CONCERN SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A GOOD USED TRANSMISSION. NOW THE USED TRANSMISSION IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH NOT STAYING IN PARK. ON JANUARY 2ND, 2013 ARUND 4:15 PM I PARKED MY CAR ON THE STREET, IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, FACING UPHILL, LIKE I USUALLY DO. HALF AN HOUR LATER A FRIEND ARRIVED, PARKED HER CAR DOWN THE STREET, FACING DOWNHILL, 100 FEET AWAY FROM MY CAR, SAME SIDE OF THE STREET. AT THAT TIME SHE REMEMBERS SHE SAW MY CAR IN THE SAME SPOT I INITIALLY PARKED IT. AN HOUR LATER, AS MY FRIEND WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE, MY HUSBAND LOOKED OVER THE WINDOW AND SAW MY CAR AROUND 50 FEET DOWN THE ROAD FROM MY USUAL PARKING SPOT. HE INITIALLY THOUGH THAT THE PARKING SPACE WAS OCCUPIED WHEN I ARRIVED HOME, SO HE HANDED ME THE CAR KEYS SO I CAN BRING THE CAR IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE. WHEN I WALKED WITH MY FRIEND TOWARDS HER CAR, WE SAW THAT MY CAR HAS SLID DOWN THE ROAD AROUND 50 FEET, PROBABLY PUSHING MY FRIEND'S CAR AROUND 10 FEET AWAY FROM HER INITIAL PARKING LOCATION. THE FRONT BUMPER OF MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE SCRATCHES, SO IT IS NOT LIKELY THAT MY CAR HAS BEEN PUSHED BY ANOTHER CAR. AS A RESULT OF THE COLLISION THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA HAS A COMPLETELY DAMAGED REAR BUMPER, WITH CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE TRUNK ALSO. MY FRIENDS CAR (A LEXUS RX, 2012) HAS THE REAR BUMPER DAMAGED. We received a citation for brake lights not functioning. I realized that there had been a safety recall on the brake light switch, and contacted Brandfon Hyundai in New Haven, CT. They did nothing. Upon further investigation on the Hyundai website, I noticed that the brake light switch campaign was marked "closed" in 2013, when the car was still owned by my mother-in-law whom has since gone blind and has sold the car to us. I took it upon myself to purchase and install a new brake light switch, and all new bulbs, but to no avail. Not only are we likely to get cited again, but having no brake lights is a safety hazard. At first, it was only the right side brake light out. Then the brake lights would stay on by themselves. Now, not even the rear window light, which should go on without the signal going through the computer, will go on.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V061000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, after contacting the dealer on several occasions she was informed that the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact was later informed that the parts were now available, but the service center was too busy to service vehicles for the next several months. The manufacturer was notified of the issue, but no assistance was offered. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact's husband owned a 2008 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while asleep, she heard a loud, popping sound emit from outside. The contact looked out the window and saw flames emitting from her husband's vehicle. The authorities were called to the scene and the fire was extinguished. A fire report was filed and no injuries from the fire were reported. Another vehicle and a tree sustained damage as a result of the fire. The vehicle was towed from the scene to an unknown location by her husband's insurance for an inspection. The next day, the contact received a recall notice for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V061000(SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) which she linked to the failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer have yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

ENTERING A CROWDED PARKING LOT IN THE CITY OF CHICAGO, I SLOWED DOWN TO APPROX. 2 MPH (ALMOST IDLE SPEED) AS I APPROACHED THE TICKET DISPENSER WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR ACCELERATED OVER 6000 RPMS AND TOOK OFF. AS REFLEX, I SLAMMED THE BRAKES (SINCE THE ABS DOESN'T WORK WITHOUT POWER) BUT THE ACCELERATION KEPT INCREASING AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT INHIBITING MOVEMENT SO I THEN FORCED THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND PULLED THE EMERGENCY BREAK - ALL WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO. THE CAR STOPPED WITHIN INCHES OF HITTING A FEW OTHER CARS AND PEOPLE INSIDE THOSE CARS AFTER THE FORWARD MOMENTUM HAD BEEN OVERCOMPENSATED BY THE INITIAL BRAKE PUSH AND EMERGENCY BRAKING. PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR FAILED. THE PLASTIC THAT HOLDS IT TO THE CEILING OF THE CAR BECOMES VERY BRITTLE AND BREAKS. THE VISOR FELL INTO THE FIELD OF VISION WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. SHE DECIDED TO PULL THE ENTIRE VISOR OFF, SEVERING THE WIRES THAT IT WAS DANGLING BY. THIS WAS A SAFER OPTION THAN HAVING THE VISOR FLY AROUND ON THE HIGHWAY. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW TO ASK IF THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL ABOUT THIS. THE DEALER WASN'T HELPFUL AND SAID THE REPLACEMENT WOULD BE OUT OF MY POCKET, AND SAID THERE'S NO RECALL, THEN SUGGESTED TO CONTACT HYUNDAI HEADQUARTERS. I OPENED A CASE WITH THEM AFTER INFORMING THEM THAT THERE IS ALREADY A CAMPAIGN THAT EXISTS FOR THE SONATA FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AND A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALS TONS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE IN THE ELANTRA AS WELL.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ADJUST THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR BY FIRST DISCONNECTING IT FROM THE ATTACHMENT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MECHANISM IT FELL, DANGLING FROM IT'S SUPPORT. I THEN HAD TO CONTINUOUSLY HOLD THE VISOR UP WITH MY LEFT HAND UNTIL I COULD PULL OVER TO A SAFE PLACE. MY VISIBILITY WAS IMPAIRED AS WAS MY MOTOR FUNCTIONING AS I WAS LEFT WITH ONLY ONE HAND FREE AND HAD TO FOCUS ON HOLDING THE VISOR UP WITH MY LEFT HAND. MY SAFETY WAS CERTAINLY JEOPORDIZED AS WERE OTHERS IN THE VICINITY OF MY VEHICLE. WHEN I WAS LATER ABLE TO INSPECT THE VISOR, I DETERMINED THAT THE PLASITIC MOUNT HAD BROKEN AWAY ON THE LEFT HAD SIDE. AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FORCE HAS NEVER BEEN EXERTED ON THIS VEHICLE COMPONENT, SO THIS INCIDENT WAS DISCONCERTING.

The sway bar was received in July 2023 and the sway bar was manufactured too short to fit the suspension of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra. The vendor was RockAuto and this is another defective product they sent.

2 brake lines rusted through causing me to loose my brakes. Had the car towed to my local garage. I just got a call today letting me know that my trailing or control arm is severely rusted and has a hole. This happened before, 11/1/2017 and the car collapsed. This was covered last time under the Salt Belt Corrosion Class Action Settlement. Hyundai is aware there is still a problem, but the undercoating recall does not work and this is still a safety hazard and it may be the exact same part. I have called Torrington Hyundai and am waiting for the manager to call back and also called Hyundai Customer Care and new case was opened #20523632. I was told it would be 2 to 5 days to be contacted by National Consumer Affairs. I am without a car again and need this resolved immediately. This has been so dangerous, my son and I could have been killed!

I own a ‘08 Hyundai Elantra. On July 21 my boyfriend and I were driving home when the rear sub-frame assembly failed, it rotted and broke where the control arms attach. The left rear tire was no longer attached to the frame of the car properly. It is available for inspection. It was a catastrophic failure, if we had being going faster it could have been deadly. Turns out Hyundai knew the materials they used were poor quality because in 2016 there was a service campaign for underbody corrosion treatment, which was completed on my vehicle. Fast forward to 2021, despite the corrosion treatment the sub-frame failed. My mechanic said the failure is not normal. Hyundai has not been responsive.

WHILE DRIVING I WENT TO STOP ON A LONG DOWNHILL GRADE AND SUDDENLY A HORRIBLE METAL ON METAL GRINDING SOUND OCCURRED. THE CAR SWERVED A BIT AND WAS HARD TO CONTROL. I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL AND LIMPED IT HOME WITH THE CONTINUING EXTREMELY LOUD NOISE, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO TURN, SLOW DOWN OR UNDER BRAKING. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO HAVE MY BROTHER DRIVE CAR TO LOCAL MECHANIC VERY CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY AND IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A BROKEN LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARM. LOCAL MECHANIC THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE AN ITEM COVERED UNDER RECALL BY HYUNDAI AS HE HAS SEEN A NUMBER OF THESE ISSUES. ON INVESTIGATING FURTHER ON THIS SITE I COULD FIND NO RECALL BUT DID FIND A HYUNDAI TSB (17-01-038) THAT SPEAKS TO PROVIDING UNDER BODY CORROSION TREATMENTS FOR 2007-2010 ELANTRA'S, FOR THOSE REGISTERED IN A SALT BELT STATE LIKE MINE.(NEW YORK). OBVIOUSLY HYUNDAI REALIZES THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH UNDER BODY COMPONENTS EXPOSED TO SALT CORROSION AND IS ATTEMPTING TO ALLEVIATE THIS PROBLEM AFTER THE FACT. We were taking the tire off to fix a problem so we used the Jack that was provided with the car. While my arm was under the car, the Jack bended, folded, and dropped the car straight down on the pavement. It was in the proper position, and it just couldn’t hold the car up and almost seriously injured me. I’m just lucky i was quick enough to see the car falling and just got out in time to not be crushed .

HAVE A 08 ELANTRA. AFTER DRIVING IT FOR FEW MILES I HAD MY TPMS LIGHT WENT ON. I CONTACTED THE DEALER, HE CHECKED AND SAID THIS MAY BE DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER. AGAIN THE NEXT DAY THE LIGHT WENT ON. When I am driving the vehicle all of a sudden it will jump back really fast And the check engine will go on and If I continue to drive the vehicle it seems like I'm putting pressure on the gas for it to go But then once I turn off the vehicle the check engine light will all of a sudden be gone. If I drive the vehicle again the problem won't happen right away it will be some time before it happens again all of a sudden.

AFTER SMOKE TESTING FOR LEAKS, GOT THE PURGE VALVE REPLACED. 24 HOURS LATER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN WHILE I'M AT A STOP LIGHT. WAITED COUPLE MONTHS DUE TO NO INCOME DURING PANDEMIC. CODE WAS THE SAME REGARDING EMISSIONS ISSUES; ANOTHER SMOKE TEST REVEALED FAULTY VENT CANISTER VALVE. GOT IT REPLACED AND DROVE FINE FOR AN HOUR. FEW HOURS LATER, THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON ONCE AGAIN WHILE I'M ACCELERATING AFTER A TURN. THE MECHANIC THAT INSTALLED THE VCV CHECKED THE PART AS WELL AS THE PURGE VALVE AND NOTICED NEITHER PART WERE FUNCTIONING AS NEEDED. HE STATED POTENTIAL ECU ISSUE OR FAULTY FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR WITH THE LIKELIHOOD OF THE LATTER BEING THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE. I DID NOT OKAY WORK ON EITHER PART; HE DID WHAT HE COULD AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME OF YET AGAIN. 2008 ELENTRA BEGAN EXPERIENCING FAILURES TO START. REMOVING THE FUEL PUMP ACCESS COVER AND POUNDING ON THE FUEL PUMP WOULD USUALLY RESULT IN SUCCESSFUL STARTING. THIS FUEL PUMP WAS A REPLACEMENT IN 2008 UNDER RECALL 08V694000 BECAUSE OF INTERMITTENT FAILURE TO RUN. WE THOUGHT IT AGAIN MIGHT BE THE FUEL PUMP MOTOR. HOWEVER, WHEN WE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, WE FOUND THE PROBLEM WAS A BAD MOTOR CONNECTOR PLUG THAT HAD OBVIOUSLY OVERHEATED. IF THIS CONNECTOR BECAME TOO HOT OR STARTED SPARKING INSIDE THE TANK, IT SEEMS LIKE THERE MAY BE POSSIBILITY OF FUEL IGNITION.

LEAVING WORK I HEARD A NOISE COME FROM THE CAR AS I WAS LEAVING PARKING LOT OF THE HOSPITAL WHICH HAS A TEN MPH SPEED LIMIT AFTER BEING PARKED FOR 9 HOURS. RECALL FOR UNDERCOATING DONE JAN. 2016 (TT1). ON 11/1/17, WHILE DRIVING ON A TOWN ROAD, THE REAR RIGHT TRAILING ARM FELL OFF CAUSING THE CAR TO SWERVE ABRUPTLY OFF THE ROAD DUE TO EXTREME RUST ON THE SUB FRAME. THIS ALSO HAPPENED WITH MY 2002 SANTA FE AND WAS COVERED UNDER THE SALT BELT CORROSION CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT. 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA HAS A KNOW ISSUE REGARDING THE SUBFRAME 'CAMPAIGN TT1'. MY ELANTRA'S SUBFRAME IS ROTTING AND HAS HOLES ROTTED THROUGH IN A FEW AREAS. AFTER SITTING FOR 43 HOURS IN OUR DRIVEWAY THE 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA CAUGHT FIRE STARTING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CONTINUED ACROSS AND THROUGH THE VEHICLE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THE VEHICLE HAD A SMOKING ISSUE IN THE COMPARTMENT A MONTH PREVIOUS AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HYUNDAI SHOP AND A REPAIR ESTIMATE PROVIDED THAT INCLUDED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. AT THAT TIME WHEN THE SMOKE INCIDENT HAPPENED THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM ENGAGED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I OBSERVED WHERE THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM AND POINTED AT THE ABS BLOCK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. VEHICLE WENT BACK INTO USE AND I ORDERED PARTS. When removing the key from the ignition, the cars engine was still running, as I was unable to turn the vehicle off. After a few tries the car was off and the engine stopped. I drove 1/2 mile, smelled something burning, looked down and saw smoke coming up from my lap area, and immediately turned the car off and jumped out of the vehicle..The engine continued to run while the key was removed... Car was eventually towed by Insurance Company tow company to the Factory Authorized service center

2008 Elantra should be added to the crankshaft Theta II recall. 2098 Elantra has the 2.0L engine unlike its prior years where they are made with a 1.6L engine. Last week my 2008 Elantra exhibited all the signs of this malfunction (A knocking noise from the engine that increases in frequency as the engine rpm increases. Reduced power and/or hesitation and vibration. Illumination of the “check engine” light in the instrument cluster. Illumination of the “engine oil pressure” warning lamp.) When this occured i had taken it to Auto Zone and had the computer scanned for error codes. (See attached report). Based on the report a tune up was done, ignition coil replaced and sensor replaced. Car would still not start. When my mechanic furthe diagnosed it (he could not find the issue until he used his scope camera)he found the issue was that there is damage to the "trigger wheel" inside the crank shaft. He also said this almost never happens in a car and does not know what could have made this happen. Please investigate this issue further, this is a dangerous situation of engine seizing and should be investigated immediately and thoroughly.

I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI DIRECTLY AND BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION THE INCIDENT IN WHICH OCCURRED ON THE SAID DATE. HYUNDAI IS STILL IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING A THIRD PARTY VEHICLE INSPECTION COMPANY EN ROUTE TO CONDUCT THE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION. THE CAR STALLED 6/21/11 AT 7PM ON THE FREEWAY IN 10-20 MILE AN HOUR STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE TEMP OUTSIDE WAS MILD, I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR 20 MIN BEFORE HITTING TRAFFIC, AND BOTH AIR CONDITIONING AND RADIO WERE ON. I WAS IN TRAFFIC APPROX. 10 MIN. I WENT TO TAP THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING WAS THERE. I HAD TO GET OUT (ON FREEWAY) AND PUSH THE CAR OFF THE ROAD AND ONTO CENTER DIVIDE (NO CALL BOXES). TWO STRANGERS STOPPED AND HELPED ME TO SIDE OF ROAD. AFTER 5 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO START CAR AND DRIVE HOME. THE CAR STALLED AGAIN ON 7/29/11 IN 10-20 MPH STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AT 5PM. THE TEMP WAS MILD AND I HAD JUST FILLED THE CAR WITH GAS. 15 MINUTES LATER ON THE FREEWAY (STOP AND GO TRAFFIC), WITH AIR CONDITIONER AND RADIO ON, I WENT TO TAP THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING WAS THERE. WAS IN TRAFFIC LESS THAN 10 MIN. AGAIN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. I OWN A 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. The car was being driven nomore than 1hr. It began to smoke under the hood. The ABS EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE Then the EPS lights were on. The vehicle was pulled over and stopped. Fire was then observed falling from under the car. The hood was then popped to see the engine mainly on the driver side was totally catching fire. Then it spread. The engine needle never showed over heated. The car took no more than 6 minutes to catch fire from the time it started smoking. It was very scary

The engine bay of my car caught fire due to the abs pump and module not turning off. I bought a part but never opened the box because I received a piece of mail stating the recall of that exact issue that they would replace all parts damaged. Which they didn't just installed their relay After Hyundai recall 188 was completed, my ABS pump failed. I believe it was caused by continuous power being applied post-shutdown — the exact defect the recall was meant to fix. The dealer performed an inspection but misrepresented the results and refuses to replace the damaged component under recall. This ABS pump failure is a direct result of the original recall condition — or a failed installation of the relay fix — which continued to keep power applied to the pump while the vehicle was off. This is the exact scenario the recall was intended to prevent. If the failure is caused by that condition, Hyundai is still responsible under recall. The facility which did the recall falsely recorded the mileage on my vehicle as to void any "warranty" associated with the recall as the car hasn't been driven since the module was replaced. I also instructed the diagnosis team of Wesley chapel Hyundai to keep my battery unplugged due to the parasitical drain in order to protect the battery from being dead celled and now I have to replace the battery as well. They also illegally opened a mailed box I had in my car with a part I bought prior to the recall being mailed out which I never took out of the box nor did I open the box and it was fully sealed which is a federal crime. I opened a case in which Hyundai denied helping with this faulty service and are refusing to provide me documents Case no. 41355389.

Has not yet been officially diagnosed by a dealer or independent service center, but while turning into a neighborhood at around 15-25 mph the car jerked and the engine suddenly stalled while I was still in the middle of the road. Thankfully I rolled into the neighborhood before an oncoming car made its way over, but it was close. The gas pedal no longer worked, and I had to restart the car. It only drove once more before shutting down and the engine will no longer turn over.

The entire undercarriage of the vehicle is rusted, allowed for 3 sections is not sufficient as it does not accurately account for the damage. The Fuel Suspension is also affected from the known Corrosion and Rust issue. I have had to make many costly repairs in the last 4 years and I did not know about this issue with the vehicle I have now had for 17years. Had I , I would have done my own repairs to ensure the unit was safe and operational and not only relied on Hyundai's very delayed and subpar solution - considering my unit is a 2008 and the campaign did not come out until May 2014, of which I know for a fact my car was never listed.

Weve had this issue happen multiple times and fear for our son's safety. Our son's safety was put at risk when it didn't immediately lock into place. It has not been inspected by any one.

Additionally, while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal high pitch winding noise detected. The parking and ABS warning lights were illuminated. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER A RAINY DAY, THE ABS LIGHT AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON. I CHECKED THE PARKING BRAKE; IT WAS NOT ENGAGED. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE BRAKING ON ITS OWN AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE. UPON ARRIVING HOME, THERE WAS SOME SMOKE COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WHICH, AFTER IT DISSIPATED, I ASSUMED TO BE HOT, LOCKED UP BRAKES. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER MY HOUSEMATE CALLED TO ME FROM THE LIVING ROOM TELLING ME MY CAR WAS ON FIRE AND TO CALL 9-1-1. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, UNDER A MAGNOLIA TREE. THE FLAMES ENGULFED THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR, AND WERE ABOUT 4-5FT HIGH. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND HOSED THE CAR DOWN, TAKING ABOUT AN HOUR TO PUT OUT THE BLAZE. THE FRONT TIRES WERE FLAT, HAD MELTED, AND THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS DECIMATED. THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD HAD SHATTERED FROM THE FIRE, AND THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOORBOARD HAD BURNED THROUGH TO THE CABIN. THE ENTIRE CABIN IS DAMAGED FROM THE SMOKE, THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR MELTED THROUGH. WHILE THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE ENTIRE FRONT END, THE DRIVERS SIDE IS WORSE, AND THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT APPEARS TO HAVE THE MOST DAMAGE. THERE IS NO VISIBLE FUSE BOX OR BATTERY AFTER THE FIRE.

THE GAS PEDAL GOT "STUCK" IN THE DOWN POSITION WHILE DRIVING, RESULTING IN A PROBLEM BEING ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH, PASSING/MERGING/ACCELERATING IN ORDER TO GET ONTO AN ONRAMP WHICH CURVED SLIGHTLY TO GO INTO ANOTHER MAIN HIGHWAY. WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN A BIT FOR THE RAMP, NOTHING HAPPENED. MY CAR CONTINUED TO GO AT THE SAME SPEED. I CONTINUED TO BRAKE, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. I SLID MY FOOT OVER THE GAS PEDAL AND COULD TELL IT WAS STILL COMPLETELY "DOWN" AND MAKING THE CAR ACCELERATE AT FULL CAPACITY. I THEN GLANCED DOWN TO CONFIRM THAT THE PEDAL WAS STUCK IN THE DOWNWARD POSITION. THERE WAS NOTHING UNDER THE PEDAL, THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT STUCK UNDERNEATH, NOR WAS IT ANYWHERE NEAR WHERE THE PEDAL WAS PRESSED DOWN. I CLICKED MY HAZARDS ON DURING THE PROCESS BECAUSE SINCE IT WAS AN ONRAMP, THERE WAS NOWHERE TO PULL OVER. AS I CONTINUOUSLY PRESSED ON THE BRAKES, THE CAR ONLY SLOWED DOWN APPROXIMATELY 3-5 MPH TOTAL, BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK ALL THE WAY DOWN, THEREFORE THE BRAKES WERE TRYING TO WORK AGAINST THE FULL POWER OF THE ACCELERATION. ONCE THE PASSENGER REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING, HE HELPED BY PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. THIS HELPED SLOW THE CAR, AND I THEN PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAIN HIGHWAY ONRAMP. THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE ABLE TO REACT QUICK ENOUGH TO GO AROUND AND NOT HIT THE CAR. I TRIED TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN ORDER TO HELP DIAGNOSE THIS ISSUE AND HAVE MORE INFORMATION TO TELL HYUNDAI. ONCE ON A STRAIGHTAWAY WITHOUT OTHER CARS NEARBY, I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN, AND SURE ENOUGH I WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE AND THE PEDAL GOT STUCK AGAIN. THE CRUISE CONTROL ON HYUNDAI ELANTRA FAILED TO DISENGAGE WHILE I DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH DESPITE REPEATEDLY PUSHING THE "CANCEL" AND "OFF" BUTTONS. FIRM BRAKING ALSO FAILED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. I MANAGED TO STOP ONLY AFTER PULLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND APPLYING HEAVY/MAXIMUM BRAKING. SMOKE. TIRES DESTROYED. SCARY! ON THE MORNING OF APRIL 16TH, MY 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA (84000 MILES) STARTED MAKING AN UNUSUAL SOUND FROM THE REAR RIGHT. AT ROUGHLY THE SAME TIME, THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. AS I WAS WITHIN MILES OF A MECHANIC, I DROVE THE CAR TO THE SHOP TO HAVE IT PUT ON THE LIFT. ONCE IT WAS ON THE LIFT AND THE WEIGHT WAS OFF THE SUSPENSION, THERE WAS A LOUD METALLIC NOISE FROM THE RIGHT REAR. UPON INSPECTION, THE BOLT FOR THE RIGHT REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM HAD SHEERED, BUT THE CONTROL ARM ITSELF WAS FROZEN IN PLACE BY RUST AGAINST THE VEHICLE BODY. ADDITIONAL BOLTS WERE ALSO FROZEN IN PLACE WITHIN THE SUSPENSION BUSHINGS AND COULD NOT BE MOVED BY HAND. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY, AND THEY RECOMMENDED THE CAR BE TOWED TO A COLLISION SHOP. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REMOVED FROM THE LIFT TO BE TOWED, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE COLLAPSED INWARD AGAINST THE WHEEL-WELL. THE VEHICLE REQUIRED A FLAT BED AS IT COULD NOT BE TOWED DUE TO THE SUSPENSION PROBLEM. AT THE COLLISION SHOP, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE BOLTS ON THE REAR SUSPENSION WERE RUSTED, ALONG WITH THE CROSS-MEMBER. THE REAR CROSS-MEMBER AND ATTACHED COMPONENTS REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JUMP WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DEACTIVATED. THE CONTACT DID NOT APPLY ANY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CONTACT SHUT IT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED, BUT WHEN HE RELEASED THE CLUTCH TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN FIRST GEAR, IT WOULD STALL. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS TO RELEASE THE CLUTCH TO SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE MOVED FORWARD. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE RESET AND INDICATED LOW VOLTAGE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000.

PURCHASED BRAND NEW 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA JUNE 5, 2008. SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR IT BROKE DOWN WITHIN 30 DAYS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THE ENGINE LOSING POWER. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND PART OF THE EXHAUST BECAUSE THE SENSOR WAS SEIZED UP INSIDE IT. WITHIN 2 DAYS OF GETTING THE CAR BACK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE WAS ROUGH. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND DURING A LEFT HAND TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, THE ENGINE REGAINED POWER AND I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP NOW PLANS TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. HOWEVER, IT IS ON BACKORDER AND WE WILL PROBABLY BE WITHOUT THE CAR A TOTAL OF AT LEAST 30 DAYS OR MORE DUE TO THESE REPAIRS. WE HAVE CONTACTED AN ATTORNEY BECAUSE WE NO LONGER HAVE TRUST IN THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WILL BE USED TO TRANSPORT OUR 4 MONTH OLD TO DAY CARE EVERY DAY. MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT 2 BRAND NEW 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GLS PZEV ENGINES ON JUNE 6, 2008. ON JULY 2, 2008 WITH LESS THAN 400 MILES ON MY HUSBAND'S CAR HE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY GOING 55 MILES AN HOUR AND BECAUSE OF HIM BEING IN THE LEFT HAND LAND THERE ENDED UP A 3 CAR ACCIDENT. MY HUSBAND DID NOT GET HIT, BUT IN ORDER TO AVOID HIM A CAR SWERVED, GOT REAR-ENDED AND PUSHED INTO AN 18 WHEELER ON RTE 24 IN MILLBURN NJ. THERE IS A POLICE REPORT BECAUSE OF THIS. IT TURNS OUT HYUNDAI KNOW THERE IS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. OUR SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US AFTER ROAD SIDE ASSISTANT TOWED MY HUSBAND'S ELANTRA UP FROM NJ TO GOSHEN NY. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALSO SAID HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT ARE NOT ORDERING A RECALL TO HAVE THE 2008 FUEL PUMPS CHANGED. WE CALLED HYUNDAI TO FIND OUT WHY THERE IS NO RECALL AND THEY SAID OUR SERVICE MANAGER WAS LYING ABOUT THE FUEL PUMPS. BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY SAID KOREA STOPPED MAKING THE FUEL PUMPS AND ARE RE-DESIGNING A NEW ONE. TO DATE THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE FUEL PUMPS WILL BE SHIPPED FROM KOREA. BUT THEY ARE STILL DENYING THERE IS A PROBLEM.
