2015 Hyundai Elantra is consuming oil. I have changed the oil on all of my vehicles ever since I have owned vehicles and this vehicle purchased used for my children and maintained by me is consuming oil requiring addition of +/- a quart of oil between trips from Baltimore, MD to New Haven, CT. Oil lamp on dashboard is lighting indicating low level of oil upon return to home just north of Baltimore December 15, 2025 after a trip north to New Haven CT November 29, 2025. Oil was topped off prior to trip back to school on November 28, 2025 and 16 days later after trip home on December 15, 2015, oil lamp on dash is lighting and oil level is low. There are no observations of oil leaking at home or in parking garage at New Haven, CT

My 2015 Hyundai Elantra fits the 'window' of Elantras where the engine transmission slips gears without notice. Hyundai dealers have been replacing transmissions at no cost, if the car is still under 100,000 miles, as part of a class action settlement. As the second owner, I have no warranty rights to get Hyundai to fix my car at no cost. This is despite the Hyundai dealer just today (Aug 20, 2025) here in Las Vegas was ready to replace my transmission at no cost until they found out I am the second owner. The car is still unsafe. The need is still relevant. The dealer was willing at first. Now I am faced with an unsafe vehicle forced to possibly pass in excess of $4,000 to fix an issue that has been know and litigated.

Vehicle routinely (3,000-5,000 miles, depending on oil used) maintained by qualified mechanics. Around 129,000 miles the engine began to knock / rattle. Mechanic was unable to determine the cause, but the rattle was only present between 0-40mph and would settle at higher speeds. Mechanic also noted the absence of sludge. Around 133,000 miles the vehicle stalled. The vehicle would start, but would stall again. Mechanic diagnosed timing chain failure and that the vehicle is burning oil. Vehicle has never indicated low oil, but it is now manually checked and burning about a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. Replaced timing chain and vehicle has continued to operate. Around 134,500 miles some power loss during low-speed acceleration and a slight engine rumble at lower speed. Mechanic diagnosed a wrist pin failure on cylinder 2. Vehicle may be inspected upon request. Vehicle stalls create some safety concerns, but have only occurred at low speeds. Vehicle timing chain was diagnosed by two different mechanics. When the vehicle was brought to a Hyundai dealership for a trunk latch recall in May of 2024 at 125,000 miles, no issues were noted. Vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance represenstatives since May of 2024, with no reported issues. No check engine notifications or warnings appeared until the vehicle stalled. Prior to slightly decreased acceleration, the only notable indicator of an issue is the persistent engine rattle (knock, piston slap). The engine rattle began in February of 2025.

Hello my vehicle developed a knock and it has become so much worse, I will not drive it. Hyundai has played games with me. My vehicle has been at Jenkins Subaru three times at Hyundai request. This third time my vehicle had to be towed to Jenkins Subaru. Now Hyundai tells me they will not repair my vehicle even though they have been aware with this lifter knock piston slap issue for quite some time now. I need help. I am [XXX] [XXX] and rely on this vehicle to get me to doctors appointments and general errands. I really don't know what to do. I am afraid to drive the vehicle because of fire issues and possibly staling out on the interstate and me getting hit by another vehicle. Please help. My vehicle now sits at Jenkins Subaru in Clarksburg wv and I have no way to bring it back to Fairmont wv. A 20 to 25 minutes trip could be deadly to to bring it home. Hyundai could have cared less that I had to had the vehicle towed to Jenkins Subaru, there reasoning is it has 104,000 miles on it. I told Hyundai they must make throw away vehicles then. Check engine light came on, the code says misfire on random cylinders, drives very rough. Took to mechanic and said timing chain is loose, which causes the “skipping” or misfire, and could snap at any moment (which is unsafe and could cause a wreck). Mechanic has 3 other Hyundai Elantra's with same problem. Around 2 grand fix.

I had a trunk latch recall done on my car in June 2024. Immediately after that, my trunk stopped opening with the key fob. The latch would click but not release. A few weeks ago, it started doing the same thing with the release lever by the driver's side. There was no way to get the trunk open, so I went to a different Hyundai dealership than where my recall was done at (due to travel costs from school). They had to replace the trunk latch because the recall latch was installed incorrectly. It was an almost $700 expense.

For the past 2 years, the car shuts off while driving. There is no warning lights or other warning that it is going to shut off. The steering doesn't lock but the car shuts off. I have to come to a stop and then restart the car. It does restart every time. This seems to happen frequently and then doesn't do it for a few weeks. I have had it looked at by 4 different mechanics, had multiple sensors replaces, replaced coil packs, and the problem still continues. The Hyundai dealer looked at it one time and said they do not know what is wrong.

The steering makes a knocking noise when I turn the steering wheel. The dealer states I need to replace the rack and pinion assembly. I have read of other driver's complaints regarding steering issues. I am also aware of a previous recall for the same issue with earlier Elantras.

My 2015 Hyundai Elantra steering binds at highways speeds after having driven 20 minutes or so. I am able to overcome this by using extra effort to move the steering wheel; but it come back again. It does not happen at lower speeds. I consider this dangerous as I don't know if this binding (or sticking) problem will get worse. This has been going on since October of 2022. The binding occurs while driving straight at highway speeds.

I was driving down the interstate using cruise control. When I applied the brakes, they didn’t work. The RPM’s went up to 4 or 5. I tried several times and the brakes didn’t work until I hit the cancel button on the cruise control. They said it was the brake switch when I had it repaired.

The brakes failed due to rotted brake lines the fluid leaked out and the brake warning light came on. I inspected the car and the lines that run from the front to the back are rusted at the point that the lines are supported. Canada has a recall for this issue because it is such a widespread issue. Hyundai needs to be made accountable for making brake lines out of inferior metal.

Purchased car used with 60k mileage. Within 3 months notice car making a metal scrubbing noise and excessive shaking in in mornings when first started and cold but if car was warm no scrubbing sound and minor shaking. Took it to hyundai dealer to have checked was told they didnt hear the scrubbing and vibrating, I assumed they checked while car was warm. Continue to have same problem for about 2 years as well as car acceleration rapidly declining and skipping on acceleration.Suspected piston slap after reading description of many others having same problem as issue identical to mine, I recieved notification in mail however it stated I must be located in cold weather state and although my state does have cold winters, it wasnt included on the list so assumed I couldnt take part in the investigation or extended warranty. Now car is having a lot more acceleration decline and yesterday, was traveling about 60mph on interstate and without warning, car just cut off and steering wheel became stiff, I through gear into neutral and turn ignition and car cranked right back up and continued driving for another 20 min, then car rested for about an hour. Then I was returning home and was going about 35 to 40 mph and it done the exact same thing again, engine cut off without warning steering wheel went stiff and I had to put in neutral and car crunk right back up. I'm almost 100% certain my engine is one of the defective engines and I'm going to auto store to have codes read now but I dont know how to have hyundai fix my defective engine and I fear I could end up injured because of it

i received a Manufacturer's Service Campaign 984 Notice from Hyundai. I made an appointment for a treatment of an underbody cavity wax and undercoating spray to prevent corrosion at King Hyundai in Deerfield Beach, FL, the closest dealer. When I arrived at the dealership I was informed that the correction could not be made because Hyundai did not supply Florida dealers with the needed products. I explained that the vehicle had been used for three years in the Washington DC area and then relocated to Florida. I called Hyundai Customer Car Center at 1-855-371-9460 and was advised that Hyundai did not supply the needed products to any state that did not experience winter weather; I believe she said that was a total of 16 states. As I received a recall notice at my Florida address, please explain why Hyundai is exempt from the recall issued in accordance with federal law.

LOCAL DEALER IS UNSURE IF IT FALLS UNDER WARRANTY SO I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A PAINTSHOP OUTSIDE THE DEALER TO GET IT REPAINT. THE PAINT REPAIR TECHNICIAN SAID THAT HAPPENS WHEN SHEETMETAL GETS CONTAMINATED PRIOR TO GETTING PAINTED. SEE PHOTO ATTACHED. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN PAINT PEELED OFF. I'M WRITING TO INFORM YOU THAT THE SUNROOF EXPLODED I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM SEATTLE, WA TO BELLEVUE, WA TODAY AFTER DROPPING OFF A FRIEND. I WAS SOMEWHERE ON I-90 EASTBOUND IN BETWEEN W MERCER WAY AND THE I-405 INTERCHANGE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND ABOVE MY HEAD THAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION ON THE ROOF OF MY CAR. NOT WANTING TO STOP ON THE FREEWAY, I CAME HOME AND STOPPED THE CAR. AFTER GETTING OUT, I NOTICED THAT THE SUNROOF ON THE GLASS WAS SHATTERED AND THERE WAS A BIG HOLE IN IT. BITS OF BROKEN GLASS ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE SLIDING INTERIOR COVER ON THE SUNROOF. LUCKILY THE COVER WAS CLOSED OR THE GLASS WOULD HAVE FALLEN ON ME AS I WAS DRIVING. I WAS VERY TIRED AFTER MY TRIP, SO I WENT TO SLEEP AND TOOK PHOTOS IN THE EVENING. I HAVE TRIED MY BEST TO SHOW HOW THE GLASS HAS EXPLODED UPWARD FROM THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THIS SHOWS THAT IT WAS NOT DUE TO A STONE OR OTHER PROJECTILE LANDING ON THE SUNROOF, AS THAT WOULD HAVE LED TO THE GLASS BEING PUSHED IN NEAR THE CENTER OF THE IMPACT. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE OTHER REPORTS OF SUNROOFS EXPLODING SPONTANEOUSLY. I SAW THAT HYUNDAI AND KIA AUTOMOBILES HAD MANY REPORTS OF THIS, AND DECIDED TO REPORT THIS TO YOU. I HAVE ATTACHED A PICTURE OF THE DAMAGE AND SHARED MORE PICTURES HERE: HTTPS://1DRV.MS/F/S!AQD1R2WKHCN6IKUNUVI3NVNRMWNGHW

Car will accelerate and get stuck in a high gear rpm gauge will not work as well You will come to a stop not knowing you are stuck in a high gear car will not downshift. I tried to cross the intersection from a stop and almost got hit because I could barely accelerate. I was stuck in 5th gear. Car will also stall while stuck in in a high gear at a stop I can turn off the vehicle and start it and it will reset the car to normal. It will drive fine for a while. Randomly this will happen. From my research I found this is a common problem with many different model years of Hyundai's . Most people say the solution is a new crankshaft sensor . When I ran a diagnostics There are no error codes for this problem. Many other individuals with this problem have said the same from many different online forums I have read. Other individuals I've said they were also stuck in the high gear at a stop and did not know until they accelerated. Some have been in accidents because of this issue. I would assume Hyundai would be aware of this. If there's not a recall on this, I believe there should be.

Transmission completely went out at 86k miles with no warning. No lights on the dash, no slow build of issues. Has always had regular maintenance since I bought the car at the dealership. Second owner, and car is paid off. Drove it one day with absolutely no issues, and the very next day, all gears were slipping and was not safely drivable. Was stopped at a stop light turning into work and when I put my foot on the accelerator, it went nowhere and I was stuck at intersection. Got it towed that day to a local repair shop since I was told my warranty for power train was expired, and have been waiting on a new transmission for 2 months now. The repair shop still doesn’t know when they’ll get it in, and will cost $4k to install. Mine is one of many they’ve said have come through with the same problem.

Within three months of purchasing this vehicle, I started having engine light and oil consumption issues. Within the 4 years of owning, they've replaced the catalytic converter twice, many valves, and others. I had to purchase and add multiple quarts of oil to just maintain oil levels. I've had multiple occasions where my vehicle slowed to only up to 55 miles an hour while on the interstate. The vehicle had issues accelerating where an accident almost occurred because pulling into a shopping plaza, the vehicle couldn't drive up a minor hill and almost remained in the intersection. I've had multiple times where I was stuck on the side of the road in different environments, a few of which I was genuinely worried for my safety. This last incident I did not feel safe to drive where I needed to go so I got off the interstate to travel down a local road where the vehicle stalled in the middle of a 5 lane (one direction) busy road. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and warranty representatives. The engine and oil lights were the main issues, every time a light came on I reached out to the dealership to get it looked at. I received notice of many engines being recalled and repaired in 2022 yet Hyundai has only put bandaids on my engine.

WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR FOR YEARS NOW. 2 OF THE ISSUES THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT EVEN FIX THE PROBLEM. ON 11/15/2016 WITH 12185 MILES ON THE CAR, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY ON THE CAR. ON 05/22/2017 WITH 15516 MILES ON THE CAR, WE HAD TO REPLACE (2) TIRES ON THE CAR BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE BALD. ON 11/03/2017 WITH 18268 ON THE CAR, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE OTHER (2) TIRES ON THE CAR BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE BALD. WE HAD PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STALLING. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR.ON 01/18/2018 WITH 20747 MILES ON THE CAR. WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SOUND WHEN THE CAR STARTS. WHEN THE CAR STARTS IT SOUNDS LIKE METAL CLINKING. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE CAR IS COLD IN THE MORNING OR ANYTIME OF THE DAY. WHEN I START THE CAR, IT MAKES THIS SOUND. I HAD TO TAPE THE SOUND SO THE SERVICE ADVISOR COULD HEAR THE SOUND. THE TECH COULD NOT HEAR IT. 02/08/2018 WITH 20749 MILES ON THE CAR. WE STILL HAD THE PROBLEM WITH A SOUND WHEN THE CAR STARTED. WHEN THE CAR STARTS IT SOUNDS LIKE METAL CLINKING.THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT. THE NEXT DAY THE TECH DID HEAR THE SOUND. THEY TESTED THE ALTERNATOR AND IT WAS BAD. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR ON THE CAR. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR I STILL HAD THE SAME SOUND AS BEFORE. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR DID NOT STOP THE SOUND. 03/20/2018 WITH 20802 MILES ON THE CAR. WE ARE STILL HAVING THE SAME SOUND WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT TIME OF THE DAY THE CAR IS STARTED, THE SAME SOUND HAPPENS. IT SOUNDS LIKE A METAL CLINKING. I HAD A TAPE OF THE SOUND, THE TECH DID NOT HEAR A THING. WE ARE STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SOUND WHEN THE CAR STARTS. I AM SCARED TO START THE CAR BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. I AM SCARED IT MIGHT BLOW UP WHEN THE CAR STARTS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE.

When I come to a stop the car randomly shuts off and the engine lights come on. I have to put it in neutral and restart the car. This is happening all the time and scares me. I'm afraid that one day I will have to stop on the interstate and my car dies when traffic resumes putting me in danger.

CAR STALLS WHEN STOPPING OR IDLING IF YOU DO NOT KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE GAS. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN THE FIRST 10 MINS OF WARMING UP THE CAR BUT THEN HAPPENS FOR THE REMAINING TIME. I HAVE HAD A TUNE UP, THROTTLE BODY SERVICED, CRANKSHAFT SENSOR REPLACED, AND FUEL PUMP REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS FIXED FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS AND NOTHING HAS HELPED.

NOW I REALIZE THIS THE SAME PROBLEM I HAD LAST YEAR WITH MY CAR AND THEY SAID IT'S A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM NOW IT'S DOING IT AGAIN. NOW BOTH OF MY TURNING SIGNAL LIGHT ARE NOT WORKING WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON. BUT ONCE THE LIGHTS GO OFF THE TURNING SIGNAL WORKS AGAIN.

2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. 2 YEARS OLD. DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE (AND PASSENGER'S SIDE, BUT NOT AS MUCH) STARTS THUMPING WHEN DRIVEN OVER 60 MPH, OR WILL INCONSISTENTLY START THUMPING RANDOMLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. FEELS VERY UNSAFE AS IT FEELS LIKE I AM DRIVING ON A FLAT TIRE. EACH TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED, I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE HIGHWAY TO CHECK IF I ACTUALLY HAD A FLAT TIRE, BUT DID NOT. FIRST TIME I NOTICED THIS WAS A FEW MONTHS AGO. I DISMISSED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE ISSUE WAS JUST A BUMPY HIGHWAY, AS THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARED AFTER EXITING. FROM THERE ON, THE CAR DROVE SMOOTHLY UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION. I DID NOT HAVE THAT PROBLEM AGAIN UNTIL A FEW MONTHS LATER. THE THUMPING STARTED HAPPENING RANDOMLY ON ROADS THAT I DROVE SMOOTH ON BEFORE, SO I KNEW IT WAS NOT A BAD ROAD ISSUE. THIS CAR NEEDS A RECALL AS IT IS ALREADY CAUSING ME LIFE THREATENING PROBLEMS ONLY AT 2 YEARS OLD. I AM ALSO HAVING ISSUES WITH BRAKES AND STEERING, BUT THEY APPEAR MINOR TO THE TIRE PROBLEM.

I HAVE A SET OF 4 PRIMEWELL VALERA TOURING II TIRES ON MY CARD, TWO OF WHICH FAILED DUE TO THE PRIOR RECALL ISSUE ON THE INSIDE LOWER SIDEWALK. MY TIRES ARE NOT LISTED AS PART OF THE RECALL, HOWEVER THE ISSUE IS IDENTICAL. I PURCHASED TWO NEW TIRES TODAY AS THE OTHERS FAILED WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON I95 IN DUVAL COUNTY, FL . I WILL PURCHASE TWO ADDITIONAL TIRES THIS WEEKEND AS I DO NOT WANT THE TIRES ON THE CAR TO FAIL AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, OR WORSE. WHAT IS GITI TIRE AND/OR CONTINENTAL TIRE GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS?

Reporting my previous VIN in case it helps the new vehicle owner since I am sure they are facing similar defects that I am with my "brand new 2016 Hyundai Elantra". I previously owned a brand new 2015 Hyundai Elantra and had to file a claim after flooding occurred in Kyle, Texas. The 2015 Elantra title was transferred to USAA after filing a claim for TOTAL LOSS due to engine flooding on [XXX]. Odometer reading on date of total loss is 7,673 miles. Vehicle appears to be sold again with same odometer reading January 2016. Both of my Hyundai Elantra's were purchased at Ron Carter Hyundai Dealership in Texas (Dealer number P113588). This dealership is now called Big Star Hyundai after DCG Acquisitions represented the sale in 2021 - just in time to deny and delay warranty covered defects to consumers who thought they purchased a brand new car. Hope this helps the current vehicle owner in case they are also over spending on dealership recommended "repairs" for their LEMON. At any given time without warning the car dies. There is a red light that is sometimes visible on the dash but flashes too quickly and tell which light it may be (due to location of light owner’s manual showing possible oil light/battery). The car has had regular scheduled maintenance. This happens when driving in everyday traffic and sometimes when going from stopped to accelerating. This happens when going in reverse or ahead. I have almost been in several different accidents due to it dying in the middle of intersections. Code reader has not been able to locate the problem because there’s no indication of a problem on the check engine light. This is a very serious problem that needs to be taken seriously before it gets someone badly injured or killed.

This is a complaint for recall remedy. This recall has no remedy and they ask I park my car outside of my garage in the dead of winter. I BOUGHT MY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA FROM THE CARMAX IN OAK LAWN ILLINOIS IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018 AND SINCE THEN I'VE EXPERIENCED A FEW PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE AND CARMAX IS ONLY TELLING ME THAT IT WAS A PLASTIC BAG ON THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THAT IT WILL BURN OFF ON ITS OWN. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THEM ON APRIL 17, 2019 AND TODAY IS MAY 14, 2019 AND I'M ALMOST POSITIVE THAT IT DOESN'T TAKE A WHOLE MONTH FOR A BAG TO BURN OFF AN EXHAUST PIPE. ALSO I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY BRAKE SYSTEM, WHEN I BRAKE THE CAR ACTS LIKE IT'S STALLING AND IT MAKES A CLICKING NOISE AS IF THE CAR IS ON ICE AND THE EXTRA BRAKE IS HELPING THE VEHICLE TO STOP. I KNOW THIS ISN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN THIS WAY. I HAVE 3 CHILDREN THAT TRAVEL IN THIS VEHICLE EVERYDAY AND I CAN'T DRIVE A FAULTY VEHICLE AND SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THEM WHILE DRIVING IT.

The car was working fine. Then one day it wouldn’t turn on while we were out. The engine wouldn’t start and it smelt burnt and there was smoke. We had to jumpstart the car and it showed some codes. They were B1319 and B1111. We took it to an electrician and it showed there was was a fuse that’s being overpowered. The car had been working again, but I did get a smell of something burnt a few times from inside the car. A few weeks passed by and three days ago the car again wouldn’t turn on. Just yesterday I found out about the recall from September on the Hyundai Elantra 2015. Not sure if it has something to do with that, but I still haven’t received a recall although that’s the car model I have.

Mar 19, 2023
Purchased my car from CarMax in February 2020 as a used vehicle with 30k miles on it and towards the end of 2020 around September I noticed my car paint was literally falling off in small chips and in November a huge chunk of paint fell off my the trunk part of my car. I went to the Hyundai center on Cassatt to see if it can be repaired by warranty and I was informed they couldn't do it but would file a good will claim on my behalf. I waited months for my claim to be processed and it was never done. I filed a complaint with Hyundai Corporate office and after waiting 3 months to hear from them they said they couldn't do anything. I discovered online that there was a lawsuit filed against Elantra for cars that had pearl white paint and it was thrown out. I also discovered there are currently thousands of complaints on Facebook in an Elantra car group where people who recently purchased Elantras within the past 5 years that carried pearl white paint are having the same issues and have also filed a complaint and their complaint is being ignored because Elantra is claiming expired warranty and no recall when they in fact have had recalls on cars with white pearl paint. They are not accepting responsibility for defective paint and they aren't willing to do another recall when clearly there are many people upset about this issue and it's gonna cost people thousands to fix the paint on cars they are still paying for. It's not fair to the customers who spent their money and it's not right and I believe an investigation should be a factor to the complaints of many customers who are left with a huge bill just a few months after buying. No recalls were on my car fax paperwork and I felt deceived by the purchase I made.

ISSUE BEGAN 12MO W 2 NEW CARS. NON ADJUSTABLE REAR SUSPENSION DETERMINED THRU MD-BBB HEARING TO BE FAULT OF POOR HANDLING AND EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. DETERMINED BY BBB TO BE CAUSED BY BENT SUSPENSION PARTS. OWNER WAS FOUND NOT NEGLIGENT FOR FOR PARTS BENDING IMPLYING THAT NORMAL DRIVING DYNAMIC FORCES ARE CAUSING PARTS TO WARP. DUE TO AN INABILITY TO DIAGNOSE ROOT CAUSE FOR WARPED PARTS - NO ONE WANTS TO ASSESS THE ISSUE TO THAT EXTENT - TOE/CAMBER SETTINGS CAN AS SUGGESTED BY HYUNDAI CORPORATE WARP AT WILL. ISSUE IS THIS DYNAMIC CONDITION CAUSING A 'SELF STEERING' CONDITION WITH EITHER TOE/CAMPER/BOTH. HYUNDAI WANTS OWNER TO PAY THEM TO HAVE THEIR DESIGN MISTAKE GO AWAY AND THIS ISSUE GO AWAY - WHICH SEEMS STRANGE IN AND OF ITSELF. IF HYUNDAI TAKES THIS VEHICLE THEY MIGHT CONCEAL IT FROM NHTSA INVESTIGATION. I HAVE TO BEGIN FINAL NEGOTIATIONS WITH THEM BY NOV 17TH. NO ONE WISHES TO INVESTIGATE WHY PARTS ARE BENDING. DOES NHTSA WANT TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT BEFORE BEING CONCERNED. THE BBB OF MD AND HYUNDAI CORPORATE ARE DEFINITELY NOT CONCERNED.

Drove my 2015 Hyundai Elantra on the coldest day of the year to an appointment. Car was fully warmed up. Pulled into a gas station to park and was going less than 3 mph, making a left hand turn into the space. Elantra suddenly accelerated hard and the car hit a cement pole, causing extensive front end damage. If car had full insurance coverage, it would have been a write off. Hood crumpled, radiator damaged, front grill broken, bent the engine bar in half. Significant damage but the air bag did not deploy. Had to have it towed home 35 miles. Damage was in the middle of the front of the car, so I was already in the parking space. No warning lights of any sort before this happened. Very dangerous and I would never buy another Hyundai. I bought this car brand new in 2015 and have had recalls taken care of (anti theft software one). Over the course of owning this car, other odd things have occurred as well, such as white smoke coming out of the engine upon acceleration, accelerated wear on the tires due to the back end, and engine will suddenly stop for no reason while driving (this happened twice) Inferior product!

On [XXX] I was parking in my parking spot outside my house, went to pull up 3 more inches in my parking spot when the vehicle accelerated at an extremely rapid speed, went over the high curb, up my front lawn into the tree in my front yard. It was a battle between the brake and the gas acceleration event. Then I put it gently in reverse, my car fled rapidly down into the parking lot at such a high rate of speed, I turned the wheel, my car hit 3 cars across the parking lot, shot across the parking lot, popped over that curb, went down an extremely steep hill, hit the cross street, went still in reverse over an island, wiped out two signs and crashed into a car in the middle of the 4 way stop and stopped. My insurance is blaming it on driver error like they are blaming thousands of drivers over the same experience, stating that I mistook the gas pedal instead of the brake and also stating that I did not attempt to brake, that is so far from the truth, you can look at the track marks on the ground and tell I was standing on the brake. What is being done about these awful scenerios. My car is currently in copart being assessed. My car was serviced at the hyundai dealership ever since I purchased it, all the records are there and in my possession, I had low mileage, less than 48,000 miles and planned on holding onto the vehicle for at least 6 more years. Now my car is sabotaged, being blamed like 1,000 of other drivers over the car malfunctioning. There is a sensor for the Throttle, a sensor for the Gas Accelerator that the Computer Control Unit brain waits for the analytical data from both sensors and adds additional throttle to the situation. Once the car is turned off the entire system resets itself, so there is no evidence of high throttle, gas accelerators sticking and the driver is blamed. Since the insurance companies have insured these vehicles there is a lot at stake for these cases to be proven and for the Hyundai manufacturer as well. Due to CDK Global cyberattack, I cannot complete my safety recall of my Hyundai Elantra 2015 (ABS Fuse that can cause engine to explode, according to Hyundai safety recall report). Hyundai does not allow dealerships to keep safety recall parts on hand (or a very small amount). I have to walk into the dealership to order the part. I cannot call to order the part. I have to constantly drive to place of work, home, sit in traffic, with a defective fuse that HyundaiUSA refuses to keep safety recall parts on hand. Please create a NATIONAL policy against manufacturers to have a minimum units (1000 units of fuses, parts, etc) as the safety recall occurs. Because dealerships cannot order parts due to this cyberattack. My mental anguish of driving a vehicle that cannot have a safety recall repaired due to parts not being able to order (especially if they can keep large amounts of units on hand at dealers), is through the roof! I cannot take time off, I have to drive to not be evicted, anything repossessed, etc. and where I live has limited transportation options, (and told to use ride share like Lyft or Uber). Insurance companies is unhelpful. If manufacturers say they cannot keep parts on hand, then how do they ship the parts so quickly, under normal operations? 3rd party mechanic shops cannot order these parts as the manufacturer has to complete the recall repair.

I am submitting this complaint because in the fall of last year 2023, I received a recall notice in the mail from Hyundai advising me of a safety recall with the ABS Module and risk of fire. As of today, the manufacturer has not made any efforts to remedy this issue and I am advised to park my vehicle away from structures to avoid fire. In order to keep myself and family safe I park my vehicle on the street in front of my home, but will not be able to continue doing this for much longer. Because of HOA regulations I will be fined if I continue to park my car on the street and will be forced to park in my driveway or garage. This has caused major inconveniences in my life as well as the worry that my car could become a risk to myself or others due to this safety recall. I do not believe that Hyundai has taken the appropriate measures to resolve the issue. I would like further investigation to insure the manufacturer does the right thing to protect not only myself, but other consumers who are affected by the recall. I contacted Hyundai on [XXX], received an apology; however I was not given an estimate of when they will have a resolution available. This is an unacceptable response after 6-7 months without communication from Hyundai. Reference number of call # [XXX]. The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that upon accelerating from a stop light, the vehicle in the right lane abruptly attempted a U-turn, colliding with the contact's vehicle on the front passenger side. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated at the time of the collision, but the ABS warning light had illuminated intermittently before the collision. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact did not seek immediate medical attention but was treated days later for a concussion, a fractured collar, a broken rib, a broken wrist, and two herniated discs. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the Malfunction Indicator Lamp sensors, determining that the air bag warning would have been illuminated had the sensors have been functioning properly. The vehicle was repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics); the VIN was included but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was 40,000.

My car's engine had damaged engine seals and was leaking oil. Also, when I accelerate it seems to be very forceful and the gears don't change well, they seem to be stuck. I had to take the front axle in for repair since something seemed to break. Also in the second or third year I had to take it under warranty since I had problems with the brakes and the sensor was damaged. The button to raise and lower the window does not work.

When you go to stop at a stop.sihn or in general it fails to do so. It locks up an I slide an almost hit people multiple times. Today I was backing out of a parking lot an when I went to turn my steering wheel straight it locked up an failed to let me counter steer it. Causing me to go over a curb an almost blow my tire out. Leaving my tire with a big bubble on the side of my tire. Eventually going to lead to a blow out.

On February 17, 2023, my vehicle was broken into and damaged because thieves tried to highjack the car using a now common method of the end of a USB cable in the ignition. The passenger rear window, the steering column, and the key ignition were all damaged, and I had my vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership. Nearly all 2011-2021 Kia and Hyundai vehicles are made easy to operate without a key, to steal, and to vandalize. This security vulnerability has resulted in Kia and Hyundai owners paying for repairs (even with insurance, owners need to pay the deductible) and higher insurance premiums. Hyundai and Kia did not disclose this defect, which is a material fact, and a fact that a reasonable person would rely on when purchasing a vehicle, consequently making these vehicles easy to steal, unsafe, and worth less than they should be. The service writer at the dealership informed me that it could take 30-45 days to get the parts since this type of vandalism has increased significantly over the last six months. It has become well-known that these thefts are due to security flaws (re: failure to implement standard security measures and install anti-theft devices) in Kia and Hyundai vehicles, leaving them notably susceptible to theft. Kia and Hyundai owners, including myself, are left with limited time use of rental cars during repairs, oftentimes because of the delay in the delivery of parts. This situation also leaves Kia and Hyundai owners with higher insurance rates (or being simply denied of obtaining insurance) because of these vehicles.

The contact's daughter owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at various speeds, the vehicle was jerking and stalling. The air bag, check engine, and various other unknown warning lights were illuminated, and messages were displayed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the failures could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred and that while her daughter was exiting the highway, the vehicle stalled, and she had to turn off and restart the vehicle to continue driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure persisted and was recurring more frequently. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,500.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA IT STARTED MAKING A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE AREA AROUND THE ENGINE. THIS NOISE EVENTUALLY GREW TO A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. THE KNOCKING NOISE CONTINUED AND I BEGAN TO FEEL IT VIBRATING IN MY STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN GRAND JUNCTION, CO TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN CAME OUT AND AS SOON AS I DESCRIBED IT HE SAID HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN RECEIVING A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND INSPECTING IT HE ASSURED ME THAT THE CONNECTION RODS AND BEARINGS WERE GOING OUT AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY ENGINE THAT HAD 50,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS ALSO GIVEN THE OPTION TO ONLY REPLACE THE LOWER HALF OF MY ENGINE FOR HALF THE PRICE BUT THAT PRICE WOULD POSSIBLY EVEN OUT TO AN ENTIRE ENGINE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THE COST OF LABOR WOULD GO UP. I DECIDED TO RESEARCH THIS ISSUE FURTHER AND HAVE FOUND THAT RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND ISSUE BUT MY VEHICLE HAS YET TO BE PART OF THE RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR MY FAMILY AND I AS I HAVE NOT USED THIS VEHICLE SINCE MAY 2020 AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN OR WILL DO TO HELP ME BECAUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED FOR MY VEHICLE.

WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, ESPECIALLY IF THE ENGINE IS STILL COLD, I WILL SUDDENLY NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE IS STILL RUNNING. THEN WHEN I SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE LIKE IT'S ALMOST GOING TO DIE ALTOGETHER. THEN IF I TRY TO ACCELERATE AGAIN, IT'S ALMOST LIKE THERE IS NO POWER TO DRIVE,OR THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLS, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGINS TO FLASH AND THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON. THE ONLY WAY THEN TO BE ABLE TO KEEP DRIVING IS IF I COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE AND TURN THE IGNITION COMPLETELY OFF AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT WILL USUALLY TAKE 3-5 TRIES TO GET THE CAR TO START AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS NEARLY 1-3 TIMES A WEEK, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT IT'S NOT RELATED TO THE ENGINE RECALL THAT THEY ISSUED, EVEN THOUGH IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME EXACT ISSUES THAT IS AFFECTING THE OTHER VEHICLES. THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 20 OCCASIONS WHERE I WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY AND THEN MY VEHICLE DIES OR LOSES POWER AND THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN OF MINE.

I SMASHED THE LEFT SIDE OF MY HEAD INTO THE WINDOW OF MY CAR , A CUT ACROSS MY LEFT CLAVICLE, RECEIVED FACIAL BRUISING, A CONCUSSION, AND AM HAVING ONGOING MEDICAL ISSUES RELATED TO WHIPLASH AND THE DISPLACEMENT OF MY NECK SPINE AND SHOULDERS. I ALSO HAD A PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE WHO IS ALSO HAVING ON GOING MEDICAL ISSUES. I BEGAN MY LEASE ON MY ELANTRA IN SEPT OF 2014. AT MY YEAR ANNIVERSARY I HAD IT SERVICED BY THE DEALER OF THE LEASE AND WAS GIVEN A CLEAN BILL OF CAR HEALTH. HOWEVER, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE CAR HAD, AS I CALLED IT, "A MIND OF ITS OWN" MEANING THAT WHILE I WAS DRIVING, USUALLY SOMEWHERE AROUND 40-55 MPH WITHOUT ME PUSHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. IT WOULD STOP AS SOON AS I COMPLETELY LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT HAPPENED ENOUGH TO BE CONSIDERED STRANGE. I WAS PLANNING TO ASK THE DEALER ABOUT IT AT MY NEXT OIL CHANGE. NOT NECESSARY NOW! SUNDAY AFTERNOON 10/18/15, I WENT TO START THE CAR AND IT SPUTTERED AND STALLED OUT. I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AGAIN AND IT REPEATED. AFTER THE 3RD TIME AND GIVING IT SOME GAS THE CAR STARTED AND RAN OK. I HAD 3 STOPS THAT I MADE, EACH TIME THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON WITH NO ISSUE. I RETURNED HOME AND NOT EVEN 5 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF, THERE WERE FLAMES SHOOTING OUT BETWEEN THE HOOD AND WINDSHIELD. I HIT THE FIRE EMERGENCY ON MY HOUSE ALARM SYSTEM TO SIGNAL FOR THE FIRE DEPT AND THEN RAN OUTSIDE WITH MY HUSBAND AND 2 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, EMPTYING ONE AND HAVING ZERO EFFECT ON THE FIRE. MY HUSBAND THEN TURNED THE HOSE ON AND WAS TRYING TO CONTAIN THE FIRE WITH THE HOSE WATER. IN THE 10 MINUTES IT TOOK FOR THE FIRE DEPT TO GET THERE, THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS LITERALLY A SHELL OF REMAINING METAL AND DRIPPING MELTED PLASTIC. THE ENTIRE WINDSHEILD EXPLODED FROM THE HEAT OF THE FIRE AND WAS INSIDE THE CAR. INSURANCE INSPECTOR SAYS THE SOURCE CAME FROM BEHIND THE BATTERY - WHICH HE SAID WAS EITHER THE ELECTRIC OR COMPUTER PANEL. EITHER WAY.. IT WAS A SCARY SITUATION. 10 MINUTES IS NOT A VERY LONG TIME TO HAVE THE ENTIRE FRONT END DISINTEGRATE FROM FIRE

I PURCHASED A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA ON NOVEMBER 26TH, 2014. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW WHEN I PURCHASED IT. ON DECEMBER 23RD I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF AFTER HAVING PARKED AND REMOVED THE KEY. I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF, BUT I HAD A TRIP SCHEDULED TO VISIT FAMILY DURING THE HOLIDAYS. I WAS FORCED TO LEAVE THE CAR AT MY HOUSE IN ITS PRESENT STATE. WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION ON DECEMBER 24TH I CALLED HYUNDAI (LITHIA SPRINGS) TO TELL THEM ABOUT THE ISSUES AND TO ASK THEM HOW THEY WANTED TO HANDLE THIS ISSUE. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN ON JANUARY 3RD. WHEN I RETURNED TO GEORGIA I BROUGHT THE CAR TO HYUNDAI. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE I COULD SMELL A STRONG ODOR REMINISCENT OF SPOILED MILK. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY EXAMINED THE CAR AND INITIALLY TOLD ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE BRAKE CLUTCH NOT DEPRESSING PROPERLY. AFTER THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THIS PART HE RETURNED TO TELL METHAT HE WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE AND THAT HE SUSPECTED IT TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. HE REQUESTED THAT I LEAVE THE CAR WITH HIM SO THAT IT COULD BE WORKED ON AND PLACED ME IN A LOANER VEHICLE. I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY (JANUARY 6TH, 2015) AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ISSUE HAD BEEN ISOLATED AND THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND WATER HAD CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES I WAS HAVING. [XXX]. TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REMOVED, CARPET REMOVED, DRIED, AND RESEALED. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN WITH THIS AND LET HIM KNOW THAT I WANTED THE CAR REPLACED IMMEDIATELY, TO WHICH HE DID NOT REPLY. HE TOLD ME THAT HYUNDAI MANUFACTURING WOULD MOST LIKELY NOT REPLACE MY BRAND NEW VEHICLE AND THAT ALL HE COULD DO WAS TRY TO FIX THE ISSUES. I AM TRULY UNHAPPY AND WANT MY MONEY BACK OR A BRAND NEW CAR. I HAVEN'T EVEN DRIVEN THIS CAR 1,000 MILES AND NOT ONLY AM I WITHOUT A CAR.
