Teenage daughter was in seat belt. Laid over a little when she sat back up the seat belt tighten around her waist and would not release. When tried to pull down from top it continue to tighten and lock around abdomen. With every small move it locked up more until there was no choice but you cut the belt because it was cutting off circulation.

There is an issue with mice getting into the front of the car. It smells like urine and is unsafe to breathe. I have cleaned out air filters monthly and find nests every time and have even found a dead mice. My car has nothing that would attract the mice. I have tried everything and spent so much money to prevent this from happening. Apparently with this car it is a known issue, and has not been fixed.

I was pulling into a parking spot, moving very slowly, and the car suddenly accelerated. I’m not sure if it was the brakes only because I was slowed down and preparing to stop. I was lucky that I only went into a PVC fence and no one was injured. There was no indication of any sort of a possible problem. No one looked at it because I had no idea that that could be done, and I wouldn’t know where to go.

On six seperate occasions since I purchased new my traction control light flashed and the vehicle jerked and would lose power. It would then gain and lose power again. Four of these occurances happened in the last few months. It would not subside until I stopped the car. I took the car to the dealer three times and they said they could not duplicate the problem. They also said there were no codes in the car system history that showed any problems. I contacted Hyundai USA for advice. They said to bring it into the dealer and ask them to inspect the car again. That was visit number 3 and the results were the same. The person from Hundai said she would let her supervisor know of my concern for the vehicle safety but I never heard back.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
8 complaints
I am reporting a safety-related defect involving the vehicle’s infotainment and forward safety systems. When this occurs, the vehicle also shows a “Check Forward Safety System” warning message. Diagnostic trouble code C162078 is triggered, indicating a front radar out of alignment. As a result, critical safety features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control, and other radar-based driver assistance systems are disabled. This issue creates a significant safety risk because the driver is not alerted to potential forward collisions and cannot rely on active safety systems. The blank infotainment screen also prevents access to vehicle settings, warnings, and camera functions. In South Korea, this same defect has resulted in an official recall and free front radar replacement and calibration. However, in the United States, customers are not covered under a recall and are required to pay out of pocket for radar realignment or replacement, even though the issue is identical and a lot of time the issue came back 3 months later and customer have to pay out of pocket once again to fix the same issue. Many owners report receiving official recall notices in other markets, while U.S. owners must independently diagnose the issue. Dealers often state that the problem may be caused by radar misalignment after a software update or system fault. In some cases, cleaning or recalibration temporarily resolves the issue, but in other cases, full radar replacement is required. This inconsistent treatment places U.S. consumers at a financial disadvantage and allows a known safety defect to remain unresolved. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this defect and require the manufacturer to issue a U.S. recall with free repair, calibration, or replacement, consistent with actions already taken in other countries.

For the past 2 years my Forward Safety System light on has been on in my car. It has turned off and back on repeatedly but has now been on for about 6 months. Hyundai dealerships are estimated a week or two of labor to fix which is extremely expensive for rental cars and outlandish that I bought this brand new and it is already giving me issues. No damage has been had to the car in any way.

While traveling on a bridge with a very steep incline, the forward safety system light came on, which disabled the cruise control. We could not resolve the warning light issue, despite taking it thru a car wash, hoping that the sensor was just dirty. The warning light remained on for several days, then went away. One month later, on a sunny, dry day, the light returned. I made an appt at the local dealership, where the car was purchased and they told me that the front sensor was out of alignment and I most likely hit something, which I did not. $370 for the alignment and since they assumed I hit something, it voided the warranty.

Check foward safety feature dashlight came on while driving, my blue link app told me the DTC c162078 chassis alignment failed front radar On Jun 4th 2024 while in park and idle my steering wheel kept going side to side, I recorded it not sure if that had something to do with this happening on July 2, 2024 and my safety is in jeopardy I feel due to the forward collision not working, smart cruise control not working, made appointment at hyundai dealership and I showed them the code bluelink told me to show them and they said they have to diagnose car themselves and the cost would be $169.99. I had to call hyundai customer care and get a claim number because dealership said they had to charge me. Two days i waited for dealership to call me the lady stated to let dealership know to waive diagnostic fee, I was told they would waive fee but I would need to pay $497 for part and $500 for labor which includes labor and recalibration, I told them I am financing a car I don't have safety features for, so I believe this should be listed as a recall or it should be fixed free of charge, being this is no fault of my own. No accident, didn't hit anything , I was driving at night and smooth roads. Dealership wanted me to lie to my insurance company and say I hit pothole. I told her no because that would be a lie.

At the beginning of December 2022 (a year after I purchased my brand new vehicle), two of the ignition coils misfired. I was driving down the highway and suddenly my car lost power and then cut off. I was able to start it again, but it would not drive faster than 25mph and would randomly lose power again. On December 7th, 2022 I took it to Hyundai and they were able to replace the two coil packs under the warranty. However, they didn't change the spark plugs (unbeknownst to me), a few months later I decided to change my spark plugs (which had to be purchased directly from Hyundai for $120), all of my spark plugs were completely burnt and looked terrible. There was a caution signal on my dash board and after running an OBD code scanner, one of the error codes that were triggered were "P030400".

Our Jiffy Lube service center performed and oil change to Hyundai Elantra. A day later customer came back with vehicle being towed. Customer stated vehicle seized for no reason. Our technicians inspected vehicle engine oil and found it to be at proper level, but vehicle was completely dead as if no power at all. Customer towed vehicle to nearest dealership, dealership states vehicle seized due to oil starvation due to improper placement of oil filter. This is a canister filter. There is no right or wrong way to place a canister oil filter. Our service center is left with a $9855 bill. My check engine light came on before the car reached 700 miles on it. The car acts like it does not want to accelerate, but the RPMS go up- I have cruised at 60mph (and at 35) and tried to move over to a different lane to avoid upcoming vehicles and the car won’t accelerate. Merging onto the freeway, again I’m gaining speed, and then the car quits accelerating. I have had the accelerator all the way down to the floor and still no power. Periodically the check engine light will shut off. I have had the check engine looked at with the reader and the code that comes on is P2261 Turbo/super charge

Hired a local tire shop to install winter tires on a second set of wheels, with a second set of TPMS sensors. Later, I discovered the car was not picking up the sensors, but it also failed to illuminate the TPMS sensor alert. When I took it back to the tire shop, they checked the TPMS with their own sensors and said they were working fine, so they didn't know why the car didn't detect them. I called my Hyundai dealer, and they said that aftermarket TPMS often don't work, and I have to use Hyundai-approved TPMS. This is fine, but the owner's manual ought to say so. I checked the owner's manual, and it doesn't say that only Hyundai-approved TPMS can be used. The dealer replied that Hyundai doesn't like people installing aftermarket parts. I replied that installing winter tires is not usually considered an aftermarket modification, and a person shouldn't be inhibited from installing winter tires. So all I ask is that the owners manual should make this clear. In the section on TPMS, it should say that only Hyundai-approved TPMS sensors should be used, or else it should say that if the driver installs a second set of wheels with winter tires, that this installation should be done by a Hyundai dealer and not by another tire shop. Of course, the owner could install the winter tires on the factory wheels with the factory TPMS. But this would mean that every season, the all-season and winter tires would be swapped and re-mounted and re-balanced, which is unnecessary. It is standard practice to buy a second set of wheels and TPMS sensors to make seasonal tire changeover easier. Since installing winter tires on a second set of wheels is a routine practice, and not usually considered an aftermarket modification, therefore, if this car has special TPMS requirements, they should be indicated in the manual.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

My vehicle experienced a sudden and complete brake assist failure, including the emergency brake. I was unable to stop the vehicle, which directly resulted in a collision. Prior to the crash, the car showed no warning lights. After the accident, I had the vehicle inspected at the Hyundai dealership. The dealership stated they could not reproduce the failure and “found no issues,” which contradicts the symptoms. Since the crash, I discovered two Hyundai Technical Service Bulletins that directly match the failure I experienced: TSB 23-01-036H-1 (Relates to HECU/Electronic Parking Brake failure) TSB addressing DTC C1620 (Relates to FCA Sensor/Automatic Braking malfunction) These TSBs relate to brake assist malfunction, emergency brake concerns, and similar stopping failures. The dealership did not disclose these TSBs, did not apply the corrective procedures, and cleared the car as having “no defects.” The dealership wrote “could not reproduce concern” and “no problems found,” despite the vehicle having just been in a brake-failure crash. This brake failure created a major safety risk with potential for severe injury or fatality. I am reporting this because the defect appears unresolved, the dealership denied it, and the TSBs show Hyundai is aware of brake-related issues. I request that NHTSA investigate this brake-system failure as part of a potential manufacturer safety defect. The vehicle is currently secured at the dealership (Lithia Hyundai, Las Vegas) and is available for inspection upon request by NHTSA investigators.

The back up camera has stopped working. If you read google, yelp, and other forums, a lot of back up cameras have stopped working as early as 24k miles. My vehicle is 2 years old and back up camera has died. I drive a lot of miles for work but cameras do not use mileage. The is a safety hazard as we had a 7 year old killed from a vehicle with no back up camera years ago. I do not agree with having to pay $1000.00 to have this item replaced. Vehicle: 2022 Hyundai N Line Mileage at Initial Incident: ~17,000 miles Components Involved: Engine and Engine Cooling; Exhaust System / Emissions; Air Bags (SRS) I am submitting this complaint to document unresolved emissions system and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) safety concerns involving my 2022 Hyundai N Line, as well as the manufacturer’s refusal to ensure proper diagnosis and corrective action following a documented dealer service error and subsequent warranty repair. At approximately 17,000 miles, a Hyundai-authorized dealership failed to reinstall an engine oil seal during a routine oil change. This error caused rapid engine oil loss at highway speed, activation of the oil warning system, and oil discharge onto the roadway. The incident is documented in Hyundai service records and is not disputed. Sudden oil-loss events of this nature are known to cause latent or progressive damage to internal engine components and federally regulated emissions systems, even when immediate engine failure does not occur. Despite proper maintenance after this incident, the vehicle subsequently set DTC P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold – Bank 1) at a mileage far below expected durability. Hyundai replaced the catalytic converter under warranty. I requested diagnostic data, inspection findings, and documentation supporting the repair, but the dealership refused to provide anything beyond a basic repair invoice. Immediately following this Hyundai-authorized warranty repair, the vehicle developed a new drivability defect, specifically hesitation during acceleration, which was not present prior to the catalytic converter replacement. This indicates a post-repair nonconformity and raises concern that emissions-related components may not have been fully repaired or that additional systems were affected during the warranty repair process. When I returned the vehicle for evaluation, the dealership stated that it would not diagnose the vehicle unless an acti

Intermittently while driving the vehicle will suddenly engage the traction control (TC)/electronic stability control (ESC). The light flashes for a short period (probably no more than a couple of seconds) and the car slightly jerks to the right. A loud noise is heard when this happens and the brake pedal shakes. Then the light will stop flashing and the car will begin operating normally again. Typically, the problem will reoccur shortly after it happens. I took the car to a dealer, and the dealer was unable to replicate the problem. I had just drove back home from work and I was driving to pick up my child from his basketball game. I was able to pull out of my driveway and get through two stop signs before I came to a third and needed to make a left hand turn. I stopped and let the cars from the highway pass until it was my turn to go. I was proceeding through the sign and started to turn and in the middle of the turn my vehicle cuts off acceleration and stops moving in the middle of the street and turn. No lights. No warning. Just loses power. I pressed the gas and my rpm’s just reved extremely high. I couldn’t move out of the middle of the street. I pressed the gas again and the car started moving approximately 5-10 mph. Luckily the car driving by didn’t hit me as I was sitting in the middle of the road. I finally got to the side of the road and put the vehicle into park for a couple minutes and tried to take off again. I couldn’t go faster than 5mph at this time. I had to drive back home and by the time I got back I had lost reverse capabilities. Dealer said no recalls and mechanics said not much they can do because there isn’t a code or light on for them to check. I just have a new car that doesn’t drive or go into reverse. I’m going to the original dealer to see if they can help now. I believe this is possibly the transmission but I am not sure.

SERVICE BRAKES
1 complaint
I bought my brand new 2022 Elantra in July of 2021, the only problem I have experienced is the brakes make a sort of wailing noise. It's not a screeching noise as if the brakes need to be changed or that the rotors are worn or brake pads are low. It is not a sound I've heard brake make before and it typically makes the sound when in reverse and slow speeds. I was a mechanic in the United States Air Force for 16 year so I know a lot about mechanical issues so a year old car certainly shouldn't be making these kinds of sounds.

I drove my vehicle to the store, parked and went in to the store to get some things. When I came out and started the car several things were wrong with the car. The power steering was not working, the RPM gauge didn't work at all, the back up camera also was not operational. The check engine light was on, the forward collision light was illuminated. I was able to drive it home but that was a sketchy drive home. The next morning I got in the car and started it up no problem, none of the issues from the previous day were there, the power steering worked perfectly and everything was fine. I still drove it to AutoZone to get it check with a scan tool, and when I did the scan tool didn't come up with any faults. This all happened about two weeks ago. Hopefully the problems don't come back. vehicle mileage is 15,000 and I've had the car for almost a year so whatever it is better be covered under warranty. I also have been having a kind of wailing sound from my brakes when I slowly reverse, It's a high pitched squeal that is usually heard when the brake pads are worn. It sounds like a deeper kind of wailing sound. It actually comes and goes and never does it in normal drive only in reverse, If anyone else has experienced this please let me know.

During the summer, I used to get some rattling on my new Elantra right after beginning to drive, after a long interval of parking under the sun. But once the car cooled down due to the A/C, the rattling would disappear. I never bothered to find the exact source of rattling because it used to last only a couple of minutes. Now in the winter, something in the passenger side starts rattling every time I go on a bump! So I took the car to the dealership following a whole week of consistent rattling. They said the noise is coming from somewhere in the dashboard and it is likely due to the misalignment caused by the shrinking of plastic in the cold. They said I could leave the car with them for 2-3 days and they could open up the dashboard and find the exact source of the noise. However, the disclaimer was that opening up the dashboard could actually introduce more rattle after it was assembled back, because the dashboard plastic parts are not precisely machined. Also, if the cause of the rattle was not found to be a manufacturer defect, I would have to pay diagnosis fee as well as the price of any broken parts that needed replacement, along with the labor charge to replace it. What's the point of warranty then?

I bought my 2022 Elantra less than a month ago, I drove the car on two round trips on the highway taking care-- that's it. One morning in Ottawa there was a cold snap and the bumper cracked on its own leaving sharp plastic edges on the front of the car. I also had paid almost $3,000 for an extended warranty but I don't know if the Surgeoner Hyundai dealer will replace the bumper yet. Coincidentally, while I was at the dealler another elantra almost exactly like mine had the same problem!

When attempting to engage lane keep assist and lane follow assist, it did not engage for 14 miles of my trip. I turned off lane follow assist and lane keep assist and after a few mins I turned those two back on but still did not engage. Vehicle had 147 miles at the time and had 235 miles left in gas tank. Stereo speakers cut out at high volume due to speakers getting hot.
