2024 Hyundai Elantra horn failed, and has to be replaced at under 20,000 miles. Safety of myself and occupants was put at risk when another oncoming vehicle was not paying attention and veered in my lane going 75 mph and my horn would not work to call their attention back to the road. No warning light was on or notified me. The dealer confirmed and claimed it was a recall because they keep going out for a lot of people… but there’s no recall listed online. Extremely unsafe, and vehicle will not pass inspection without horn.

The horn on my Hyundai Elantra stopped working twice in 2025. My recent visit to the dealership on 10/9/25 resulted in finding out the assembly is taking on water causing a shortcut. This is a reoccurring problem, the attendant told me. He tried to assure me repairs will be covered under my 5 year warranty. That doesn’t reassure me of anything because a nonfunctional horn is a safety issue and should result in a recall. Please let me know what you are going to make this defect go away.

I’m writing as a concerned consumer to flag a serious flaw in current vehicle VIN labeling standards. Specifically, the use of tamper-evident paper VIN stickers on body panels (such as rear doors) is unnecessarily fragile, outdated, and punitive — with no warning or protection for normal car owners. I recently purchased a 2024 vehicle and accidentally peeled part of a VIN sticker located on the rear door jamb while cleaning the interior. There was no visible warning on the label, no digital alert, and no indication that this sticker had legal or resale significance. After researching, I learned that this small, unprotected sticker can: •Invalidate Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) eligibility •Flag the car during future inspections, even if there’s zero damage •Require a complicated and expensive ($100–$300) process to replace •Create suspicion over a vehicle’s history despite clean title and ownership This is unacceptable in 2025. We are in an era of digital keys, over-the-air updates, and software-based identity systems — and yet a fragile, unmarked paper sticker can still materially harm a consumer’s vehicle value. My ask: Please consider updating FMVSS 115 or 567 to allow for: •Laser-etched, permanent VIN identifiers on all major body panels •Digital VIN linking through ECU or OEM ownership systems •Elimination or redundancy of peel-sensitive stickers that have no protection or warning A normal consumer performing normal maintenance or cleaning should not be able to accidentally reduce the value of their car or disqualify it from certification. I urge you to take this issue seriously and consider this as part of ongoing vehicle identification modernization efforts.

Car makes loud beeping and says "consider taking a break" even when staying in lane and obeying all traffic rules. Severely distracting while driving and no way to turn it off.

At 16,000 miles the horns on my vehicle failed. This occured on busy tollway just as a driver began to enter my lane from the right side. When I tried to engage my horn to warn him I was unable and had to slam on my brakes to avoid a collision. The driver behind me came within inches of rear ending me and he swerved into another lane almost causing another collision. Then the original driver thought I was brake checking him and went around me an slammed on his brakes in retribution. Horns that were used to repair by dealer were new OEM's. At 24,000 miles a similar experience occured where I had to slam on my brakes because I was unable to warn another driver that we were about to collide, but the horns failed. Once again the dealer had to replace the defective horns with more of the same OEM horns that have been proven by myself and others to be unreliable. In researching complaints about this issue I have seen numerous other owners of 23 and 24 Elantras (and Konas) making same complaint, some of which had to have their horns replaced multiple times. I complained to Hyundai Corporate and requested an alternate replacement horn as now I have to drive a 1 year old car that I don't know if the horns are going to work or not, and despite all the evidence I presented to them, they refused. I cannot allow any other family members to drive my $21,000 car for fear that they might not be as "lucky" as I was in avoiding an accident. I am told that the NHTSA does not consider a horn as a safety item and therefore not within their jurisdiction. I find that difficult to understand due to the lack of horns definitely put me in a position twice that directly related to my and the other driver's safety. What other reason could there be for a horn other than waking up drivers at a redlight who are looking at their phones instead of paying attention? I'm sure that when Henry Ford put horns on his cars that it was not for any other reason than safety.

The vehicle has less than 2,000 miles on it being a 2024 model (hybrid limited) and on more than 2 occasions without warning the car will be dead while parked. No accessories left plugged in to cause drainage, no warning from the MyHyundai bluelink app, and the dealers are completely clueless. The vehicle gets driven every day, and in order to "fix" the issue temporarily, i have to unlock the car manually using the physical key, and press the 12V reset button. That wont last long before the backup battery dies too.

Rear camera suddenly stopped working while reversing. Happened approximately at 19,000 miles. Don't know the cause but seems like a safety issue since rear view cameras are federally mandated. The usual camera view is now replaced by green error screen that says "No signal received. Please try again later"

1- Horn. 2- Was not able to warn other driver of improper lane change. Was not able to warn driver backing out of parking space almost causing accident. 3- Yes, by dealer. 4- Yes, by dealer. 5-No warning. Horn just stops working. Appeared at first 5k miles. Note: This is a common complaint in Hyundai forums for many years.

The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the horn was inoperable. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed that the horn system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and a fuse for the horn was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact reported that the horn had become inoperative and was returning the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,600.

My 2024 Hyundai Elantra limited horn stopped working, almost causing someone to hit me. The car only has 4,000 miles on it. I am extremely lucky I did not get in an accident because of this. Extremely dangerous issue and soon further research its a very common problem with some newer Hyundais. There needs to be a recall before some actually gets hurt!

My oil plug fell out causing engine damage. They are saying it is fault of wal mart who did last oil change but 2 months and 12,000 miles have passed since oil change and they will not cover under warranty
Jul 11, 2025
I had my oil changed in September at McGovern Hyundai in Leominster, MA. I have the invoice on file and my app that I have with them. I went out of town on [XXX]. At approximately [XXX], I heard a loud pop, saw smoke and immediately pulled over, a large amount of oil came out of the bottom of my car. The car was undrivable and I had to have it towed to the closest Hyundai dealership in North Plainfield, NJ. They provided me with a write up that stated I need a new engine due to the damage. We called McGovern and they are claiming that is isn't their issue and to contact my insurance company or cooperate. The cost right now is over $11,000, $300 for a tow, $200 for an uber driver to my destination where I was going, $223.86 for a diagnostic test, $350 car rental for my parents to come and get me, approximately $100 in gas fees to get me and my dad lost a day of pay. This all happened just a little over 1,000 miles and there is only 14,421 miles on the car. The dealership I bought it from isn't taking responsibility for it and Hyundai has yet to. This happened on a major highway on NJ and I was left on the side of the highway alone for over 2 hours waiting for a tow. This was such a scary and dangerous position to be in. This seems to be an issue with Hyundai cars and they aren't helping. I am now without a car and no one seems to care. I was driving around 34 miles per hour in traffic and my speedometer turned red indicating a problem. I attempted to accelerate in traffic and it made a funny noise and would not speed up. I was able to drive home which was about a mile away. Once I got home I turned the vehicle off and back on and the speedometer was blue again. I took it to the dealer and they advise they could not locate the problem , They put it on a level 3 scope and drove it a lot. Since then it happened as I left home and I stopped the vehicle and started it again which solved the problem. The car has around 3100 miles.I was not at risk because I was in slow traffic and could run about 30 mph during the first event.

New vehicle was recently purchased at Hyundai dealership odometer reading 8 miles only. Four days later while driving the engine turns off and all dashboard lights start flashing vehicle stops completely in the middle of the road I immediately turned-on emergency lights to make the cars behind me aware. Looking on my rear mirror I notice a vehicle wasn't stopping and I was about to get rear ended so I suddenly wave my hand out, thankfully he passed right by me, and all traffic slowly comes to a complete stop. There was no warning lamps, messages or problem prior failure. I took the vehicle back to dealership for service maintenance I was informed no problem was found and it was a onetime thing they guaranteed me it wouldn't happened again and unfortunately it did.

Horn is not working. After I hit 10k miles it suddenly no longer has worked, I am currently at 34250k miles and received a recall letter from hyundai themselves in case of any issues with the car but I don't have the paper. I went to dealer one time to give it a look but they were not working with me and treated me disrespectful so I gave up and been driving with no horn in car.

The horn stopped working in our 2024 Elantra. This is a widespread issue (see NHTSA complaints and Reddit posts). I called ahead to verify with the San Leandro dealership that parts were in stock to perform this repair under warranty (prior to scheduling appointment). We arrived and were told that parts were actually not available (after a 3-hour diagnostic). What changed? Hyundai issued a TSB (technical service bulletin) informing dealerships of how this issue is to be repaired (designating a specific part number, while excluding otherwise qualified Hyundai parts). Without TSB, the dealership could have performed this repair under warranty with the in-stock parts. The dealership could still perform the repair, but Hyundai would not reimburse them under warranty. With a[XXX] wife, I was unable to wait and return later for the warranty to cover the repair. I paid $429 to the dealership for the repair to be done with in-stock parts. I left the dealership with a genuine & working Hyundai horn, but it was not covered by Hyundai’s warranty. Hyundai has refused to reimburse us. Two key takeaways: 1 - Hyundai is denying there is a widespread issue while secretly telling dealerships how to address it. The unpublished TSB demonstrates that Hyundai is aware of a widespread safety issue, and is failing to issue a recall. The majority of NHSTA complaints for this vehicle reference horn failure. This is a safety issue. I was involved in an accident where I could not warn another driver before the collision. 2 - The TSB is a mechanism by which Hyundai is refusing to perform repairs that should be covered by warranty. This is a violation of Hyundai’s stated commitment to customers that is not stated even in the fine print of the warranty. Horn stopped working! I bought the car in January of 2024 brand new off the lot in June my horn just stopped working the fuse was blown so it was replaced and within 2 months the horn went out again I contacted the dealership and horn replacement was ordered finally came in and changed out in November not sure why my horn went out but I need my horn I was almost hit 3 different times and a horn would have let the other driver know I was there so too close for my comfort!!

At approx 1000 the horn fuse blew and rendered horn inoperable. Fuse was replaced by dealer. At approx 1500 miles horn was inoperable again, dealer recommended horn replacement however the horns are currently on back order. In both cases, no lamps or messages were available in the car indicating the horn was inoperable.

The Gas pedal, would not work as I was trying to accelerate when going from the ramp onto the freeway. The pedal had no pump in it, it just went all the way down as I was trying to press and the car started slowing down. I had to pull over on the side of the freeway and restart the car for the pedal to start working again. I came to the dealership the next day on 12/5/25, at around 5:45pm in which I was scheduled to come back at 8am on 12/6/25. My safety was at risk, because the car lost pedal power for me to pickup speed as I merged onto the freeway. I brought it in for inspection, at the dealership I purchased it from. There were not any signals or displays that came on during the incident.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

When I am using cruise control, my car will just randomly slam on its breaks. I have taken my car into the dealer multiple times, and they have written it off everytime. They have said it’s “direct sunlight” yet I can prove it’s not happening in the sunlight. It happened again today when it was cloudy. It’s also happened before the sun came up in the morning. I have even filed a case with Hyundai directly, and they said if they can’t get it to mimic it, then they can’t do anything about it. But it’s so random, sometimes it happens 50 miles from home, other times it’s 300 miles from home. Always willing to let anyone inspect my vehicle to help solve this issue. I’ve been taking it to my dealer for a full year until I found out I needed to come put it here. It’s random, it won’t happen in the same spot twice. But every time it’s done it, there is never a vehicle in front of me. My assumption is there is a defect with the adaptive cruise control. I’ve talked with Hyundai and they claim they’ve never heard of this happening to anyone, yet when I google it, there are MULTIPLE forums with people stating this exact thing is happening to them. SAFETY issue is it slams on the brakes so hard I’ll go from 80 to 65 before I can get the cruise control off. If someone is behind me when it does this, they will slam into me.when I’m dropping 15 mph quickly, that vehicle behind me will hit me like I’m a stopped object. No warning lights before it happens. This has been happening since I bought my vehicle at 0moled to now where I have 34k miles

Partner was traveling at or under the posted speed limit, when the front passenger tire "blew." He lost control of the vehicle and was thrown into a home. Car is a total loss. The home is damaged, and he suffered injuries. There were no warning lights or alarms. This was a certified pre-owned, purchased 2 months prior. Milage was at 17737 when the incident occurred, 16242 at purchase. The same tire was reported as being replaced due to a flat by the dealership, before my purchase. The incident is under investigation by the insurance company. Contacted the dealer, they said that "tires blow" at any time, new or used. Instructed us to report it to Hyundai; the insurance company did that, and Hyundai stated there is no known issue with the vehicle. Tire make is Kumho brand, solus TA3 to the best of my knowledge. A police report was filed, and it was deemed related to a malfunction; the driver was not cited. Speed, drugs, and alcohol were not a contributing factor.

While it may sound bizarre, I can definitively demonstrate that whenever I am present inside a car, the car become very unstable and bouncy and unsafe to operate. Not only does it not steer straight the car also becomes incapable of coasting smoothly and is constantly racing or aggressively slowing down. I can’t be the only anomaly and whatever is causing this could be widespread and is certainly dangerous. I have found it to occur only with the cars which I am inside. I would like to demonstrate this in person if possible to an investigator.

This is a repeat incident. While driving, the speedometer stops working, tachometer, all of the collision warning systems start going through a self test, the check engine light comes on, and most concerning is the power steering. It becomes heavy, as if it is working at half power. The dealer kept the car for over a week recently, and they said that they were unable to duplicate the issue. It happened again while I was on a road trip , and I stopped by five star Hyundai in Albany ga. The service advisor was aware of similar issues have occurred on Hyundai's, but that they were too busy to look at it. She wouldn't even come out of the building to look at the car and wasn't interested in looking at my video. I tried to upload video to this form, but was unable to do so

The horn on my 2024 Elantra has stopped working. It was intermittent at first, but it doesn't work at all now. I will need to return the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis. The vehicle has just over 13K miles on the odometer. The horn is an important safety feature, and based on the experiences of other owners of this model, it appears that this is a chronic issue. There are no messages displayed, and I will need to schedule with the dealer for warranty repairs.

The contact owned a 2024 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while stopped in traffic on a three-lane highway, another vehicle with a distracted driver crashed into the rear driver’s side and side-swiped the vehicle up to the front driver’s side door of the contact’s vehicle at approximately 50 MPH and pushed the contact’s vehicle into rear-end of the vehicle in front, causing that vehicle to spin around on the highway. The vehicles came to a stop after the impact. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy. Additionally, the Blue Link Service in the vehicle failed to activate to notify the Emergency Services of the crash. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local Caliber Collision body shop. The contact stated that the vehicle was deemed a total loss by the body shop and the Insurance provider. A Police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to her neck, back, a torn left rotator cuff, and injuries to her shoulders. Medical attention was sought for the injuries sustained. The contact was receiving physical therapy and pain management for the injuries. The contact stated that there were no injuries to the other drivers. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed as it had been declared a total loss. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no fault with the air bags or the Blue Link Service. The approximate failure mileage was 5,308.

Towards the end of January, my car computer was reset because the car was telling me that I needed an oil change early and the dealership told me it could just be a computer issue. I then took my car to get an oil change and full vehicle inspection on February 24th, 2 days after that on the 26th I was leaving my school parking lot when the vehicle accelerated awkwardly when I was leaving out of a parking spot, I was then able to gain control back over the speed until the vehicle again abruptly accelerated and jerked to the left sending my car over a curb, deploying the air bag, and completely totaling out the vehicle.

Vehicle shut off 8 times on my wife while driving. Check engine light did come on with a warning from the vehicle stating a possible issue with our Engine Control System. Shortly after, while ON the roadway, at about 35-40 mph, the car completely shut off. Luckily my wife was going to a church and the church men were able to push her car safely, with our kids inside, off the roadway and into the parking lot. Hyundai Roadside Assistance was contacted and vehicle was towed to Matt Bowers Hyundai in Gulfport, MS on June 5th. During a 12 day stint at the dealership, it was determined that the problem was caused by the open safety campaign (Bulletin 206) and the EGR Valve Assembly was replaced. We took back delivery of the vehicle June 18th, 13 days after the tow/problem.
