Brakes went completely out while driving, absolutely terrifying. Pedal went straight to the floor and wouldn't stop. I had to manually downshift until it was under 5 mph and then it would barely stop.

The brakes on my 2010 Genesis Coupe suddenly stopped working while on the freeway, luckily I was able to swerve into the carpool lane and avoid an accident. Upon taking it to Tuttle Click Hyundai I was told a master technician had to review it, which would cost $200 just to look at it. When the technician looked at the car, I was told it needed a new Brake Booster. Hyundai apparently no longer makes this part so the dealership had to locate an aftermarket replacement which costs about $1,100. I did note to the dealership that there was recalls on other 2010 Genesis cars for similar issues, but was told the recall was for the sedans, not the coupe and that they/Hyundai would not cover it. Upon installing the brake booster and bleeding the brakes, it was found that I also need a new ABS Module, which will cost up to $4,000 to find and install. Another user posted this same issue to the NHTSA in October 2022.

On September 22, 2022 while traveling at about 65 mph on state highway 57 in CA, I came upon a sudden group of cars hitting their brakes and had to slam on my brakes but my 2010 Genesis Coupe did not stop and I had to swerve into an entrance lane on my right to avoid a serious collision. Fortunately there were no cars entering the highway on that entrance. I was then able to drive a short distance home. On May 26, 2022 I had my car serviced including the brakes by Service Auto Care and my car gave me no brake problems until this incident. On September 23 I brought my Genesis Coupe to Service Auto and explained what happened. The brakes worked fine on the way to the shop. They tested the brakes and said that the ABS module was defective but it was just put under a 15 year extended warranty by Hyundai on May 19, 2022 and to take it to the closest dealer. The dealer, Russell Westbrook Hyundai of Anaheim told me only the sedan was covered. This dangerous defect could occur at any time and cause a severe accident. I hope this report is helpful to the NHTSA and the defective part is replaced without charge. The dealership charged me $205 for an estimate, then wanted $2200 to re-do the brakes and then approximately $4000 to replace the ABS module. I have documents to back up everything I have presented.

While attempting to brake on exit ramp off an interstate highway, the brake pedal was depressed almost to the floorboard with minimal slowing. The brakes were pumped several times with slowing vehicle speed. Fortunately, the exit ramp was long enough to allow a safe stop. Pedal remains soft and spongy. No warning lights are on. Brakes functioned normally until this incident at 138,200 miles. However, master cylinder was replaced at 102,000 miles for a similar problem at an independent auto shop. I FEEL LIKE THE TRANSITION ON THIS CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT LOCKS YOU OUT OF SECOND GEAR AT HIGH RPMS WHICH COULD BE DANGEROUS IN SOME SITUATIONS. ALSO FROM 5TH AND 6TH GEAR GRIND AND ARE HARD TO ACTUATE. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM.

I BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH 32,500 MILES. FROM DAY 1 THERE WAS A GRIND GOING INTO 5TH GEAR. THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT NO TSB OR RECALL WAS EVER SENT OUT ABOUT IT. JUST A TSB TO CHANGE THE FLUID . AT 82,000 MILES THE 5TH GEAR SYNCHRO BROKE. I HAD TO BUY A USED TRANSMISSION FROM THE JUNK YARD AND HAD IT INSTALLED FOR $820 TOTAL INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION, LABOR AND FLUID. WHY WOULD THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE A 10 YEAR/100,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, WHEN IT ONLY COVERS THE FIRST OWNER. AND WHY WOULD THEY KNOW ABOUT THE 5TH GEAR GRIND AND NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION HARD TO GET INTO SOME GEARS. GRINDING NOISE IS HEARD ON UPSHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD AND DOWNSHIFT FROM 6TH TO 5TH. THIS IS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION THE DEALER INSTALLED. THE ORIGINAL ONE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD AND IT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY.

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY I-10 W WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH, HAD TO BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 10 MPH BEHIND TRAFFIC THAT WAS SLOWING DOWN AND CAME TO COMPLETE HALT WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. WHEN TRAFFIC CLEARED, ON RELEASING BRAKE AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE AGAIN THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR. BROUGHT THE CAR TO PARK POSITION AND TURNED OFF ENGINE AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, THE CAR WOULD CONTINUE TO BE ON STARTER MODE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE HAD STARTED. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES THE CAR RESTARTED BUT THE GEAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE. MOVED THE SHIFT TO SHIFTRONIC MODE BUT THE CAR WOULD STILL NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR. HAD TO CALL IN A TOW COMPANY AND WAIT IN THE CAR FOR OVER 30 MINUTES OF HARROWING EXPERIENCE IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE 4 INSTANCE WHEN THE CAR HAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC IN A HIGHLY UNSAFE SITUATION. THE CAR DEALERS RESPONSE HAS BEEN UNSATISFACTORY. WONDER IF THEY HAVE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THIS HIGHLY UNSAFE FAILURE IN THE CAR. NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE ON THE ROAD WITH RISK OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Genesis. The contact's wife stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the air bag warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he noticed that prior to the warning light being illuminated, a tear that had formed under the "SRS Air Bag" badge on the passenger’s side. The contact stated that the air bag warning light continually remained illuminated. The vehicle had not been taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V722000 (Air Bags). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 196,000.

The contact stated that after parking and exiting the vehicle, moments later after returning to the vehicle it was discovered that the driver’s and passenger’s side headrest restraint had deployed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure and indicated that the headrest needed to be replaced but no further assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 125,000

MY CAR WENT AIRBORNE WHEN I HIT A RAILROAD CROSSING WITH A STEEP DROP OFF, LANDED IN A DITCH AND FLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES END OVER END, LANDING UPSIDE DOWN. I WAS AIRLIFTED TO AN AREA HOSPITAL. ONLY 1 OF THE 6 AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I LOST FEELING IN THE SIDE OF MY FACE WHERE MY HEAD BROKE THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AND ALMOST BLED OUT. I NOW HAVE SEIZURES AND WAS RECENTLY FIRED FROM MY JOB DUE TO HAVING 2 SEIZURES AT WORK. I HAVE ONLY WORKED PART TIME IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. IF THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED, I WOULD'VE WALKED AWAY UNINJURED. I WAS ALSO TRAPPED WHEN MY HAND WENT THROUGH THE TOP WINDOW. I WAS LEFT HANGING AND HAD TO HOLD MY FACE WITH MY FREE HAND TO STOP THE BLEEDING UNTIL HELP ARRIVED. IF TOP AIRBAGS WOULD'VE DEPLOYED, MY HAND WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CAUGHT UNDER THE VEHICLE. I EXPECTED ALL 6 AIRBAGS TO WORK WHEN I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE. THE IMPACT OF THE CRASH SHOULD'VE MADE ALL THESE AIRBAGS DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY TOTALED.

WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO MY BRAKE PETAL, THE CAR DID NOT STOP. I ALMOST WAS INVOLVED IN A FEW REAR END COLLISONS. IT WAS VERY SCARY! DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE BRAKES AND NOTHING IS WRONG. I NEED TO DO A MASTER CYLINDER CHANGE. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. CURRENTLY, IT HAS 53,000 MILES ONLY. NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE.

MY 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS WAS RECALLED FOR A DEFECTIVE FAULTY BREAK SWITCH IN 2014 AND THE REQUIRED SERVICE WAS PERFORMED 7/30/15. THE FOLLOWING DAY I ENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 75 MPH BUT ALMOST REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE INTEGRATED SPEED CONTROL DID NOT ACTIVATE. THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO TURNED COMPLETELY OFF AT TIMES. I'VE RETURNED THE CAR TWICE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND A SOLUTION AND HAVE REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM HYUNDAI. I WAITED ALMOST 2 MONTHS WITH NO WORD FROM HYUNDAI AND FINALLY WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 9/22/15 AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE STILL WAITING FOR INSTRUCTION FROM HYUNDAI AND THEY NOW HAVE A SECOND CAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WANT TO POST THIS LISTING BECAUSE I BELIEVE LIFES ARE AT STAKE AND OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE TICKETED FOR CAUSING ACCIDENTS AND, WORSE CASE SCENARIO, BE CHARGED WITH VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER.

ON 4/18/13 AT 2125 HOURS, UNIT 1 WAS TRAVELING EASTBOUND IN LANE TWO OF NORTHERN AVENUE APPROACHING NORTH 59TH AVENUE. UNIT 2 WAS IN LANE TWO OF EASTBOUND WEST NORTHERN AVENUE STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION WITH NORTH 59TH AVENUE. UNIT 2, A BUS, WAS PARKED IN BUS PULL OUT JUST EAST OF NORTH 59TH AVENUE ON WEST NORTHERN AVENUE WITH THE DRIVER OF THE BUS NOT IN DRIVER SEAT BUT STANDING IN BUS. ACCORDING TO DRIVER OF UNIT 1, WHILE UNIT 1 WAS SLOWING TO STOP BEHIND UNIT 2 THE ENGINE OF UNIT 1 BEGAN RACING AND DID NOT STOP EVEN AS THE DRIVER OF UNIT 1 PRESSED THE BRAKES. UNIT 1 STRUCK UNIT 2 IN THE REAR AT LEAST TWICE PUSHING UNIT 2 INTO INTERSECTION. UNIT 2 DRIVER STATED AFTER BEING HIT AT LEAST TWICE BY UNIT 1, UNIT 2 CROSSED INTERSECTION AND STOPPED IN FRONT OF THE BUS TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF UNIT 1. UNIT 1 ALSO CROSSED THE INTERSECTION OF NORTH 59TH AVENUE AND UNIT 1 STRUCK REAR END OF UNIT 3. IT DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY CAUSING IT TO DECREASE OR INCREASE SPEED WITHOUT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. HEADLIGHTS FLASH WHEN SWITCHING FROM "AUTO" TO "ON" POSITION. OCCASIONALLY THE HEADLIGHTS IN THE "ON" POSITON WILL BLACKOUT FOR 2-5 SECONDS UNTIL HEADLIGHT STALK IS GIGGLED. THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL "NOISE" (LIKE A SHORT CIRCUIT SOUND...A "POP") WHEN SWITCHING FROM AUTO TO ON. THE TURN SIGNALS ALSO SEEM TO TRIGGER THE "SHORT CIRCUIT". ALL OF THESE CONDITIONS CAN OCCUR MOVING OR STANDING STILL.ON ANY TYPE OF ROADWAY.

ON THE HEADLIGHTS THE UP AND DOWN ARROWS EMBOSSED INTO THE PLASTIC HOUSING ARE BACKWARDS. THIS HAS CAUSED ME NUMEROUS TRIES AT ADJUSTMENT AND HAS INTERNALLY PUT THE PROJECTOR ASSEMBLY OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THIS IS THE WAY THE CAR CAME FROM THE FACTORY. BOTH SIDES ARE REVERSED.

ENGINE

The 2.0T engine failed and the vehicle is currently at Hyundai service department waiting on my warranty company to do an inspection of the engine. My safety was at risk as the engine failed during normal operation of the vehicle on a busy city street near a blind curve which other vehicles travel at high rates of speed. Hyundai Service department has confirmed the engine has failed which it needs to be replaced/rebuilt. Hyundai Service department has inspected the vehicle. Waiting on inspection from warranty company. There were no warning lights or symptoms prior to the engine failure. Thankfully I was not operating the vehicle on the expressway as I normally do on my way home which could have put me in a much more dangerous scenario when the engine failed. When the engine failed it started to effect other components in the vehicle, as I started to completely lose the ability to maneuver the vehicle putting myself in a dangerous situation.

I HAVE COMPLAINED AT LEAST 2 OR 3 TIMES CONCERNING A SUDDEN ACCELERATION FROM THE STOP POSITION. THE ENGINE REVS UP AND THE CAR TAKES OFF WITHOUT MY DOING IT. I'VE REPORTED THIS IN 2014, AND 2016 - NOW I SEE THERE'S A RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION BUT MY CAR ISN'T ONE OF THEM? REALLY...

I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE TURNING ON TO A MAIN STREET FROM A HIGHWAY. WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR ENTERED LIMP MODE. DEALERSHIP SAYS CAR HAS CODES FOR FAULTY THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND IT NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE SEEN OTHER PEOPLE WITH A SIMILAR ISSUE.

I WAS DRIVING ON ROUTE 81 TO HARRISBURG AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND MY ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. I HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO A SAFE PLACE. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED AND MY MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE CONNECTING ROD INSIDE THE ENGINE BROKE AND PUT A HOLE IN THE ENGINE AND THE OIL TANK. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED AND WHILE IT WAS ON THE TOW TRUCK I SAW THE OIL JUST POURING OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THIS IS VERY ODD FOR THIS TO BREAK. HE SAID IT IS MOST LIKELY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT BECAUSE THIS DOES NOT JUST HAPPEN. OIL TANK WAS FULL WITH OIL AND THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CAR OF. ANY OTHER INCIDENTS LIKE THIS ONE?

The contact owns a 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE . The contact stated that while driving his vehicle, his brake system started to make noise and became unresponsive. The contact stated that he then drove his vehicle to the dealer to have his brakes changed. The contact stated that the dealer changed both brakes and, rotors , front and rear, however the failure still exist. The contact stated the dealer advised him of the recall on the same year, make , and model vehicle that was experiencing the same failure NHTSA campaign 13V489000 (SERVICE BRAKES,HYDRAULC). The contact stated that he was advised that the HECU needed to be replaced. The contact stated that he then contacted the manufacturer who advised him that his vehicle was not apart of the recall. The contact stated since then his vehicle remains with the dealer who adivised him to contact NHTSA. The mileage failure was 90,000.

BACKGROUND: AM ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS THAT WAS PURCHASED JULY 31, 2010 AND THAT CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 35,000 MILES ON IT. ISSUE: UNEXPECTEDLY, THE BRAKES BECAME "SQUISHY" (I.E. BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED A LONG DISTANCE BEFORE ENGAGING BRAKES). ADVISED BY HYUNDAI DEALER THAT IT IS A FAULTY HECU UNIT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR $3,800. NOTE: THE BRAKE FLUID WAS REPLACED IN APRIL 2013 AND THE HECU UNIT WAS SUPPOSEDLY INSPECTED IN JANUARY 2014. I BELIEVE THESE WERE DONE IN RESPONSE TO PRIOR RECALLS. THAT SAID, UPON SOME FURTHER READING ON THE INTERNET, I AM UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT WHEN THIS PROBLEM WAS PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED FOR RECALL, THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE RESULTED IN MY HECU UNIT BEING REPLACED, NOT JUST INSPECTED. BREAKS FAILED. TAKING EXIT FROM HIGHWAY AND THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP AS THE BREAKS WOULD WORK. WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE FOUND GAP BETWEEN TWO LANES AND AVOIDED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING MY GENESIS 2010 SEDAN, THE BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THEN THE POWER STEERING DID NOT RESPOND. I WAS ABOUT 1/2 MILES FROM MY HOUSE AND I HAD TO WRESTLE WITH MY STEERING WHEEL UNTIL I GOT HOME. THE SCARY PART WAS THAT I UNEXPECTEDLY LOST POWER STEERING DURING A TURN AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. LUCKILY, NO ON COMING TRAFFIC WAS NEAR AS I COMPLETED THE TURN ON THE OPPOSITE SLIDE OF THE STREET. I FORTUNATELY ARRIVE HOME, PARKED THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE MECHANICS. I BEGAN HAVING THIS ISSUE 10 DAYS AGO WITH MY 2010 GENESIS COUPE. THE CONCERN I HAD WAS NOT ONLY WAS THE INTERIOR FLICKERING BUT IT RESULTED IN MY RUNNING NIGHT BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER I'M AT 62K MILES JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY RAN DIAGNOSTIC AND THOUGHT IT WAS A LOSE BRACING FOR THE WIRES. I PICKED IT UP AND THE ISSUE BEGAN AGAIN. I TOOK IT IN 4 DAYS AGO THEY THEN SAID IT WAS A FUSE SWITCH ISSUE AND REPLACED IT BUT THE ISSUE CONTINUED. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A HEADACHE SINCE IT WENT OUT OF WARRANTY (IRONICALLY). FIRST IT WAS THE CAR WOULDN'T START DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BETWEEN THE ALARM SYSTEM AND KEY FOB. THE STARTER WAS THE NEXT TO GO. MOST RECENTLY THE FUEL PUMP WENT LITERALLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. FORTUNATE I WAS ABLE TO MAKE MY WAY OFF THE ROAD AND AVOIDED COLLUSION AND POSSIBLE PHYSICAL INJURY. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS THAT THERE WERE ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR, NO DASHBOARD WARNINGS, NO USUAL PERFORMANCE. THE CAR WAS FINE ONE SECOND AND COMPLETELY DEAD THE NEXT. AFTER INCURRING $300 IN TOWING CHARGES, FIRST TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE HIS COMPUTER COULDN'T READ THE HYUNDAI CODES, THEN TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. HYUNDAI CLAIMS IT IS THE FUEL PUMP. I'LL REMAIN SKEPTICAL UNTIL THEY CONFIRM THE CAR IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL. I FIND IT IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPREHEND HOW A 6 YEAR OLD VEHICLE THAT IS IMPECCABLY MAINTAINED SHOULD HAVE THE DEGREE OF PROBLEMS I HAVE EXPERIENCED OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. HYUNDAI IS HAVING A REAL ISSUE WITH THEIR FUEL PUMPS. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR ITS 3RD FUEL PUMP AT 120K MILES. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS HOW THE PUMP GOES OUT WITH NO INDICATION OF AN ISSUE FROM THE CAR AT ALL. THIS TIME I WAS PARKED AT A GAS STATION, HOWEVER THE 2ND INCIDENT IS MORE CONCERNING. THEN, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 70-75 MPH. WITHOUT WARNING, THE ENGINE STOPPED AND OF COURSE SO ALL OF THE OTHER CONTROLS FROM THE ENGINE. BECAUSE I HAD A FULL LOSS OF POWER, I WAS LUCKY THAT THERE WERE NO CARS IN THE INSIDE LANE AND I COULD MOVE OVER IN TIME TO GET TO THE SIDE SHOULDER. I LITERALLY COASTED TO THE SHOULDER AT 20 MPH. IF I HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO WAY TO MOVE THE CAR.

THIS IS A RECURRING HESITATION PROBLEM. I FIRST NOTICED THIS WHEN MAKING A TURN INTO TRAFFIC. THE HESITATION IS SIGNIFICANT. IN SOME CASES THERE IS AN ACCELERATION PAUSE OF 1-2 SECONDS. THIS DOES NOT OCCUR EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE BUT ITS LACK OF PREDICTABILITY IS A PROBLEM IN AND OF ITSELF. I HAVE COME CLOSE TO BEING REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD JUST NOT MOVE WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. ALSO, WHEN THE CAR WINDOWS ARE UP AND THE CAR SITS IN THE SUN FOR A FEW HOURS THE CENTRAL NAV AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM OVER HEATS AND WILL NOT FUNCTION UNTIL IT COOLS OFF (MAYBE 20 MINUTES). To stop the vehicle the brake pedal had to be pumped multiple times. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were both contacted regarding the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V489000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). TO KEEP WARRANTY INTACT ON THE CAR, HYUNDAI INSISTED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS ON THE CAR BE REPLACED, WHICH I DID FOR APPROXIMATELY $5000. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ELECTRONIC ITEMS GO BAD IN THE CAR. I REPLACED SOME OF THESE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. BUT THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE WITH SOME EXPENSIVE ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS GOING BAD OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS. THE DASH AROUND MY AIRBAG HAS CRACKED IN A PERFECT LINE AT THE AIR BAG LOCATION PHOTO ATTACHED. THEY REFUSED TO CHECK THE AIRBAG. HOWEVER THEY CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND ASKED FOR DASH REPLACEMENT. HYUNDAI WAS WILLING TO PAY FOR THE DASH PART BUT NOT ANY LABOR TO INSTALL NEW DASH OR TO CHECK MY AIRBAG TO MAKE SURE IT WILL NOT GO OFF. I AM ASKING FOR HELP TO GET MY AIRBAG CHECKED AND ALSO HAVE THE DASH REMOVED AND REPLACED BY HYUNDAI. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS PASSENGER AIRBAG IS AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. 1) ALMOST HIT FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC AT A STOP LIGHT, WHEN I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. THE SIGNAL TURNED YELLOW SO I TRIED TO TURN LEFT BEFORE I REALIZED THE ONCOMING CAR WAS GOING TO RUN THE LIGHT. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND HIT THE GAS TO MAKE A QUICK TURN TO AVOID THE ONCOMING CAR. THE CAR STALLED FOR A SECOND AS I PRESSED THE GAS INTO THE TURN, THEN KICKED INTO FULL POWER, SCREECHING THE TIRES. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FLUKE BUT HIS SAME PROBLEM OF "STALLING" FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AND HITTING THE GAS AT TAKEOFF KEEPS HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE. I OWN A 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE. IT HAS MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT 4200 MILES AND STILL EXPERIENCES PROBLEMS (LURCHING WHEN PUT IN GEAR). THE PAINT HAS HAD TO BE REFINISHED, THE BLUETOOTH RADIO FUNCTION IS INTERMITTENTLY BROKEN, TRACTION CONTROL DOES NOT WORK ON OCCASION (DASH ILLUMINATOR LIGHT INDICATION). I HAVE REPEATEDLY FILED COMPLAINTS WITH HYUNDAI CORPORATE REGARDING THE TRACTION CONTROL ISSUE. AFTER FILING THE INITIAL COMPLAINT AND FOLLOWING UP 4 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A MONTH, I HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. THE TRACTION CONTROL TURNS OFF, AND CANNOT BE REACTIVATED (PARTICULARLY PROBLEMATIC WHEN WE'VE HAD SO MUCH SNOW). THE BLUETOOTH RADIO ISSUE STEMS FROM THE RADIO PLAYING WHILE THE PHONE IS CONNECTED. I CANNOT HEAR THE CALLER, BUT THEY CAN HEAR ME AND THE RADIO. THE RADIO SHOULD BE OFF WHEN THE PHONE IS ENGAGED. MOST OF THE TIME, I JUST CAN'T HEAR THE CALLER BUT THEY CAN HEAR ME. *TR

ONE OF MY AUTOMOTIVE FORUM MEMBER EXPERIENCED A SERIOUS SUDDEN ACCELERATION ISSUE WITH HIS HYUNDAI GENESIS 2 DOOR CAR, 2010 MODEL. THE ISSUE WAS BELIEVED TO BE CAUSED BY VDC(VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL SOFTWARE) THAT HYUNDAI MOTOR IN SOUTH KOREA ADMITTED BUT REFUSED TO DO ANY ACTION AGAINST THIS ISSUE. THE HYUNDAI CAR, GENESIS, CAN BE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY WITHOUT PRESSING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. THE ENGINE RPM WAS RISEN UPTO 6,000 RPM WITHOUT PRESSING THE PEDAL AND THE RPM NEVER DROPPED AGAIN. HYUNDAI R&D CENTER FOUND THE CAR HAD DIFFERENT SIZE OF WHEEL AT THE FRONT SIDE. THE OWNER THEN WITHDREW THE COMPLAINT AGAINST THE HYUNDAI MOTOR INC IN SOUTH KOREA. BUT I WANT NHTSA NEED TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE BECAUSE OTHER DRIVERS IN USA CAN EXPERIENCE THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE. THIS MIGHT CAUSE FATAL ACCIDENTS IF THE FRONT TIRE LOSE AIR PRESSURE.
