I dont know the exact component that's failed, but it is consuming way too much oil, i have to put a quart in just about everytime i drive it. When i took it the dealership to find out if it was leaking, or burning oil, they literally charged me 200 to tell me it was either leaking oil or burning it. I personally think it is burning vs leaking, because there isnt oil in my drive way. I then spoke to some one on their YouTube channel that told me to call and tell them my story and they should help me out. I did that but no one ever contacted me about the complaint. It's smokes from the engine and i feel like its just a matter of time before it blows up or catches fire. Even though I can hear the engine ticking and struggle the check engine light is not on. From what I've seen this is a known issue that they are ignoring, even though MANY people have complained. This engine has already been replaced in 2018, and the new one is going bad prematurely as well.

I purchased this vehicle in November 2022. Hyundai and all affiliates were well aware of the engine recall. I was NEVER informed of the recall, if I was, logically I never would have purchased it. This is fraud by Toyota South in Richmond Kentucky. 6 months or so after purchasing, I began noticing the oil loss, without any oil on the ground where I park the vehicle. I researched and found the recall. I fought with the dealership and Hyundai corporate for 4 months before they said they would replace the engine with a new engine, I was told this early November 2023. I received my car back on 11/24/23. I was told the new engine came with a 12,000(?) mile warranty. I am still looking for this paperwork and will have it available soon. Fast forward to September 2025, as I am driving on I75N to Lexington from Berea, my car shudders and a smoke cloud larger than my vehicle appears behind my car. I check my oil and I am down 2 quarts, which I thought was odd considering I had checked it 2-3 weeks prior to this. I checked it in another week, and it is down 2 quarts again!! There is still no leakage, no oil on the ground, immediately I knew it was another recalled engine. Which is beyond comprehension, why would Hyundai replace a recalled engine, with a recalled engine?? So I go to the dealership and am told I have to do the 3 stage consumption test, drive 1000 miles or be down 1.5 quarts and come back. I was back within 2 days, I drove 150(?) miles and was down 1.5 quarts. The dealership and Hyundai determined the oil consumption issue is present, meaning its a recalled engine. Through phone calls with Hyundai I was told it is also remanufactured, but if you recall, I was told it was a NEW engine. Fraud #2. They refuse to fix it. This is the only vehicle in my household, and my means for income. Hyundai is costing me the right to live, the right to work. They are despicable, awful people to work with. The constant threat of fire is very stressful!!

While driving at approximately 70MPH on the highway, my 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited suddenly locked up with no warning lights, no noise and no prior symptoms. The engine completely seized, causing immediate loss of power. I was barely able to coast off the highway exit to a final stop on the feeder shoulder, in a desolate area. The vehicle has always been properly maintained and is in excellent condition. Upon research, I learned that Hyundai has known of internal engine defects caused by metallic debris left from manufacturing since 2010, which can cause bearing failure and engine seizure. My Tucson's failure matches the same pattern described in Hyundai's Theta II engine recall and warranty extension campaigns. This sudden failure created an extremely dangerous situation at highway speed and possibility of injury while being stranded on an open road. Many owners, myself included, were never properly notified of the risks. I am filing this report because this incident represents a serious safety defect and potential recurrence among similar vehicles that may not yet be covered by recall. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue and ensure Hyundai expands its recall and warranty coverage to include affected 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited vehicles exhibiting this defect that was well-known to the Hyundai Corporation. Date of Incident: October 23,2025 in Houston Texas. Vehicle towed to Hyundai dealer which diagnosed Engine Seized and currently awaiting Warranty Extension Approval (TXXC/TXXI)

My 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport suffered a blown head gasket that required me to pay $9,000 for a full engine replacement. Hyundai is aware of ongoing problems with their 2.0 turbo motors, but the recall only covers the rod bearing failure/knock sensor issue. Many owners, including myself, are experiencing blown head gaskets, and several believe this failure is directly related to the same underlying engine defect. This is not an isolated case—numerous complaints online and in owner forums describe the same problem. Despite the high repair cost and known engine vulnerabilities, Hyundai refuses assistance because my vehicle is outside the mileage limit, even though the defect is widely reported and appears to be a design/manufacturing issue, not normal wear and tear. I believe NHTSA should investigate whether the head gasket failures in these 2.0 turbo engines are linked to the same defect that prompted Hyundai’s engine recalls, as it presents significant safety risks (engine overheating, sudden power loss, potential for fire). In 2018, the Center for Auto Safety formally petitioned the NHTSA to investigate 2011–2014 Hyundai Santa Fe models (among others) due to a high number of non-collision fire complaints, including reports of melted wires, smoke, and burning odors in the engine bay . While this isn’t directly about head gasket failures, it underscores a pattern of serious safety-related issues affecting that generation of Santa Fe vehicles.

Vehicle is only 10 years old and barely has 120k miles on it. Consistent maintenance and oil changes are done. My son was driving on the highway and the vehicle died suddenly and coasted to the side of the road. We had it towed to a repair shop and after some testing they said the engine has seized up. Most likely related to the common rod bearing issue with these motors, but this is not on the recall for some reason. This should not happen on a car with so low miles and use! Luckily my son was safe and not in an accident when this happened.

ON 7/17/18, MY SUNROOF SHATTERED WITHOUT WARNING, WHILE GOING THE SPEED LIMIT, 55MPH. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND NOTHING ABOVE ME. THE GLASS PROJECTED OUTWARD, CONFIRMING THAT NOTHING FELL FROM THE SKY OR CAME UP FROM THE ROAD AS GLASS WOULD HAVE BLOWN DOWN OR TO THE REAR IF IT HAD BEEN IMPACTED BY AN OBJECT. I HAVE FILED A REPORT WITH HYUNDAI'S NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND FILING A COMPLAINT HERE IN HOPES SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS SCARY ISSUE. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN MULTIPLE REPORTS AND A LAWSUIT OF THIS HAPPENING, UNPROVOKED AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OF SERIOUS HARM IF NOT INVESTIGATED. THANKFULLY THE LINER PROTECTED ME FROM THE FALLING GLASS AND THE CAR BEHIND ME SLOW DOWN AFTER THE EXPLOSION IF GLASS ALLOWING ME TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY SAFELY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED FROM THIS UNEXPECTEDLY HAPPENING TO THEM. CAR MANUFACTURERS NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

The stationary glass that is in front of the panoramic sunroof shattered for no reason. I found that this has happened to many other people's vehicle like mine. In several incidents, the glass chips fell on passengers in the car when they opened the sunroof. I had a glass repair shop look at it. It will cost $400.00 out of pocket and I don't really want to file a claim to insurance. Can you offer any help?

Owner: [XXX] VIN: [XXX] Vehicle: 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport My daughter purchased this vehicle in April 2025 from a licensed Chrysler dealership. On [XXX], the engine suddenly seized while driving, without warning, and would not restart. This VIN was part of Recall 17V-226 (Hyundai Campaign 162). Dealer records show the recall was closed with inspection only (“engine inspection, oil, dipstick”), not an engine replacement. The failure matches the defect description of the recall (bearing wear from restricted oil flow). Hyundai is refusing to repair it, claiming sludge and “maintenance neglect,” despite my daughter only owning it for 5 months and having an oil change at Hyundai in May 2025. This engine failure proves the prior “inspection” remedy was ineffective. Hyundai is also denying coverage under the lifetime warranty extension (TXXI), which explicitly applies to subsequent owners for bearing failures. This is a serious safety issue. My daughter lost power in traffic, and the vehicle is still unrepaired. This complaint is being submitted on behalf of the registered owner, [XXX] , by her mother [XXX] , who is the primary contact. ON JULY 5, 2019, THE CAR SUDDENLY STALLED WHILE IN MOTION IN CITY DRIVING. I IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO RE-START THE CAR: IT DID NOT RESTART, NO CRANKING OF THE STARTER. I THEN PUSHED THE HAZARD LIGHT BUTTON: NO RESPONSE. THERE WAS NO ELECTRIC POWER, I.E., NO LIGHTS, NO RADIO, NO A/C, NO STEERING, ETC. AFTER 2 MINUTES, I RE-ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT IT DID NOT START, NO CRANKING. THE HAZARD LIGHT BUTTON THEN WORKED. ELECTRICITY CAME BACK ON. AAA CAME AND JUMPED THE BATTERY, BUT CAR NO START. CAR WENT TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. SERVICE MANAGER, THE ENGINE SEIZED BECAUSE OF MAJOR BREAKDOWN. "WE COULD NOT TURN THE ENGINE MANUALLY." HE STATED: "WE HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE IN OTHER HYUNDAI, BUT YOUR VEHICLE WAS NOT IN RECALL." PLEASE URGENTLY INVESTIGATE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, OR HIGH SPEED CITY DRIVING, THE SEIZED CAR COULD HAVE FLIPPED, ENDANGERING MYSELF, PASSENGERS AND OTHER NEARBY VEHICLES AND PEOPLE.

Hello, To whom this may concern, The ABS light turned on the dashboard on a Tuesday evening. My wife kept driving. In the next couple of days, it would feel like the car was all over the road, under braking. It seemed very hard to take off. On Friday, I was outside and heard the car was making a noise. As an automotive technician, I knew the ABS module was cycling nonstop. I pulled the fuse out of the fuse panel to make sure it wouldn't catch fire. We took the car back to the dealer when the bulletin came out for these cars catching fire due to an ABS issue years ago. I went to the dealer on that Saturday and informed them of the ABS module cycling nonstop. They told me that the bulletin had been done already and there was nothing they could do for me. I called Hyundai customer support, and they forced me to pay a diagnostic charge of $220 to tell me it was a failure internally in the ABS module and that they wouldn't cover the repairs. I found it very surprising that Hyundai only had to change a fuse to prevent cars from catching fire. It doesn't make sense to me how the NHTSA allowed them to only change a fuse and not the module that Hyundai said was faulty. This puts every car that I drive next to in danger, with the module going off nonstop while I drive down the road. This has all happened in the last month. Please hold Hyundai truly accountable for this nonsense. It is unacceptable that they can get away with just changing a fuse to prevent a fire, and not fix the actual issue, the ABS module. Thank you,

I own a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T which has had door latch issues.  Recently, the front passenger side door latch needed to be fully replaced due to a failure which caused the door to be loose latching and the latch sensor always showing open.  I paid out-out-pocked for this repair as the Hyundai dealership said there are models which this exact issue was identified, but they said the parts extension had not been placed for my exact vehicle.  They were also confused as to why this was not being covered as they see so many of these same repairs. Now, less than one month later, the front driver's side door is now experiencing lock issues in which a loud grinding noise is occurring when the vehicle attempts to lock or unlock the door.  Additionally, the door does not unlock some of the time from the external and the manual door handle on the interior is getting harder and harder to open.  Both of these issues are consistent with other recalls for other Hyundai models and consistent with the door latch module and actuator failure.  I would like to file a complaint regarding this issue as it seems to be a common issue with Hyundai models using this door latch module.  I believe the parts extension and repairs for these door latches should be covered by Hyundai especially as this becomes a large safety issue with driving the vehicle with concerns of door latch stability and security.

The engine was replaced under a recall related to an engine knock code. About two weeks later, the vehicle lost all power while driving. The dealership confirmed a failure in the high-pressure fuel line and that the turbo had failed at the same time. The same visit revealed oil leaks, and shortly after, the vehicle began emitting white and black smoke. Their technician stated the failures were due to “consequential damage from engine failure.” The problems have continued to return, and I’ve been told the vehicle is unsafe to drive. Hyundai is now refusing to fully cover the cost of repair, offering only 15% off, despite all of the damage being directly linked to the replacement engine. I transport children in this vehicle. My safety and theirs have been at risk multiple times because of these unresolved and ongoing failures.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE DEALER SUPPOSEDLY FIXED TWO RECALLS WITH THE ENGINE ON MY 2014 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT BASE. SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT ANY AUDIBLE WARNING, MY ECM LIGHT CAME ON AND MY VEHICLE STARTING LUNGING AND LURCHING FORWARD LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL. I PULLED OVER AND READ THE MANUAL, AND IT NOTED THAT IT WAS THE ECM SENSOR AND THAT I SHOULD IMMEDIATELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, SO I DID. DRIVING THERE, I WAS ONLY ABLE TO MAINTAIN A SPEED OF 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, WHICH PUT ME AND MY 8 -YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER IN DANGER FROM FASTER-DRIVING CARS, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. ANY TIME I STOPPED OR SLOWED DOWN, THE ENGINE WOULD SHUTTER LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL AND THEN WOULD GET BETTER JUST PAST 10-20 MPH UNTIL I APPROACHED 60 AGAIN, WHERE IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AGAIN. WHEN I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY IMMEDIATELY KNEW THE PROBLEM AND ORDERED A KNOCK SENSOR HARNESS. HOWEVER, IN READING THE VARIETY OF LAWSUITS, ISSUES, AND SERVICE CAMPAIGNS, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH HYUNDAI IS KNOWINGLY ALLOWING PEOPLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING CARS THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE, THUS PUTTING US AND OUR CHILDREN'S LIVES IN JEOPARDY. THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED AND HAVE ALL OF THE ENGINES AND RELATED PARTS REPLACED, OR THEY NEED TO BUY THE VEHICLES BACK AT ORIGINAL MSRP SO WE CAN PURCHASE A FUNCTIONAL, SAFER VEHICLE.

I HAVE 2014 SANTA FE SPORT WITH 2.4 ENGINE, AND HAVE A SERIOUS HESITATION PROBLEM. IT HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN WHEN WAITING AT LIGHT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. WHEN TRAFFIC ALLOWS ME TO GO, THE CAR WILL START THE TURN THEN IT FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE DIES FOR ABOUT 2 OR 3 SECONDS THEN KICKS IN AND I AM ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN. THIS IS VERY SCARY WHEN THERE IS TRAFFIC COMING AT ME. I AM VERY WORRY THAT ONE DAY I WILL HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE SERIOUS HESITATION PROBLEM. IT ALSO HESITATES IT WHEN DRIVING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND WHEN I WANT TO SPEED UP LITTLE BIT, IT DOES NOT ACCELERATE BUT KINDA BOGGES DOWN. I HAVE TO PUSH THE GAS PEDDLE DOWN FAST AND THEN LET IT UP AND THEN I CAN ACCELERATE TO THE SPEED I WANTED TO GO. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER 2 TIMES AND THEY COULD NOT SOLVE THE THIS PROBLEM.

MY VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN THE ENGINE RECALL WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. AFTER HAVING THE ENGINE REPLACED BY A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO INTERMITTENTLY LOOSE POWER WITHOUT NOTICE. ALTHOUGH, THE TACHOMETER READS 7000 RPM, THE SPEED IS 20 MPH WITH THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BOARDS. THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT NOTICE AND HAS HAPPENED ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS WITH CARS SPEEDING BUY! WE HAVE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT IT OFF AND THEN RESTART. THEN IT WILL BE FINE TIL NEXT THE NEXT TIME. THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL THINGS. IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM.

What happened: While driving in Montana on September 21, 2025, the cabin suddenly filled with gasoline fumes and the accelerator pedal stopped responding. After pulling over, flames erupted from under the hood and the vehicle was completely destroyed within minutes. The passenger-side door could not be opened from the inside at first, delaying escape and creating a serious safety risk. No warning lights or messages appeared before or during the fire. (1) While driving, gasoline suddenly filled the cabin and the accelerator pedal stopped responding. Within seconds, the vehicle caught fire. The cause appears related to the fuel system, and possibly the ABS module. The vehicle was completely destroyed but remains available for inspection in a private tow lot. (2) The fire spread extremely quickly. Both occupants were nearly trapped inside when the passenger-side door would not open from the inside, delaying escape. The vehicle burned on the shoulder of a busy highway in Montana, posing danger to us and to surrounding motorists. (3) Not after this fire, but a similar problem occurred in 2023 when gasoline filled the cabin and caused the engine to stall. At that time, Hyundai replaced the engine under warranty. (4) No. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance. It is secured in a private tow lot and is available for inspection. (5) No. There were no warnings at all before or during the failure. Even as gasoline filled the cabin and the vehicle caught fire, the check engine light stayed off and no alerts appeared. While driving on a steep, narrow grade with no safe shoulder, my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport suddenly lost all forward power. The engine would rev but the vehicle would not accelerate. I was left stranded in traffic, with cars behind me and nowhere safe to pull off, creating an immediate risk of being rear-ended or rolling back into other vehicles. I had to call for a tow to avoid a serious crash. The vehicle was marked as having all recall campaigns completed, including the rod bearing inspection and knock sensor update, which were supposed to protect against catastrophic engine failure. Clearly, those campaigns were not sufficient to prevent the failure I experienced. At the time of failure, the vehicle displayed the check engine light and drivability symptoms consistent with abnormal combustion and potential bearing damage. Hyundai denied lifetime warranty coverage under the Theta II engine settlement without performing the required inspection. Instead, I was left with an estimate for engine-related repairs that exceeded the value of the vehicle, effectively rendering it a total loss. This failure is exactly what Hyundai’s recall notices describe as a risk: sudden engine failure, loss of motive power, and increased risk of crash. The fact that this happened to my vehicle despite “completed” recall campaigns raises serious concerns about whether the defect remains unresolved and whether Hyundai is adequately honoring its recall and settlement obligations. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether Hyundai is improperly denying warranty coverage without inspection and whether vehicles that were marked as repaired under these recalls are still at risk of catastrophic engine failure, stalling, and loss of motive power on public roads. The settlement administrator also works for Hyundai is just referring customers back to Hyundai Customer Care. They are not honoring this CLASS ACTION lawsuit and acting in BAD faith and putting lives at risk.

Parts of the ABS system under the hood burned, while the vehicle was parked in my garage, affecting electrical and other parts. I found information online about a recall for this same problem. I have never received a notification of this recall before. I went that same day [XXX] to my local dealer. They gave me an appointment for service for the next day and left the vehicle with them on 04/03/2025. I called the dealer after one week and they told me they already verified the vehicle and notified Hyundai company and are waiting for them to approve the repair. I called the dealer again today 04/23/2025, after 3 weeks and the they told me they are “still waiting for Hyundai Company to approve the repair. That they don’t know how much time this may take and that it may take a lot more time”. In the meantime, and after the bad and risky experience, I have one car less in my house. I understand this is a process but also, considering that this was caused by a factory defect I understand they should be responsible and solve the problem in a timely manner. Thank you. CAR WAS IN PARK AT TAKE OUT WINDOW, WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD WITHOUT MY PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR WAS HARD TO CONTROL. I WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OVER AND STOP, WHEN I DID THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I SHUT IT OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, STARTED IT UP, DROVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT SLOWLY AND IT SEEMED TO BE BACK TO NORMAL. THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON FOR 2 DAYS WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN MY YARD, NOT USING IT. I DROVE IT TO MY AUTOMOTIVE SHOP TO BE LOOKED AT AND WHILE DRIVING THERE, THE LIGHT WENT OUT. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC ON IT AND FOUND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR WAS OUT AND SUGGESTED THE WHOLE PEDAL ASSEMBLY BE REPLACED. THEY SAID IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AS IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND WHAT WAS WRONG AND TRIED TO RETURN THE CAR TO ME WITHOUT FIXING IT. I HAVE REFUSED TO PICK IT UP UNTIL IT IS FIXED TO PREVENT A FUTURE ACCIDENT OR INJURING SOMEONE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. THE CAR WAS DROPPED OFF ON 2/25/19 AND THEY STILL HAVE IT TODAY ON 3/6/19, WITH NO COMMUNICATION FROM THEM SINCE 3/1/19 WHEN THEY TOLD ME TO COME AND GET IT.

ABOUT 20 MINUTES AFTER PARKING MY VEHICLE AT AN OFFICE LOCATION, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. I COULD SEE THE FIRE BY THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, BETWEEN THE TIRE AND THE BODY; SMOKE WAS COMING FROM ALL AROUND THE HOOD. WE PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. WE COULD SEE DAMAGED WIRES. I HAD NOTICED WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DISPLAY PANEL WHEN I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE TO START DRIVING. I CALLED CLAY COOLEY HYUNDAI OF ROCKWALL AND INFORMED THEM OF THE MESSAGES: BEEPING FOLLOWED BY FLASHING MESSAGES ABOUT ABS, ESC, & DOWNHILL BRAKE CONTROL; PLUS DOWN BELOW WERE TWO RED CIRCLES (EXCLAMATION MARK IN ONE AND THE LETTER P IN THE OTHER) AND THE WORD BRAKE BELOW. I ASKED HYUNDAI IF THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY SAID YES. I PROCEEDED TO MY 12 NOON APPOINTMENT IN RICHARDSON, TX. ABOUT 20 MINS AFTER PARKING THE CAR, THE FIRE WAS NOTICED BY AN EMPLOYEE. THE DAY BEFORE THIS, ON TUE, 01-29-2019, I HAD NOTICED 3 AMBER WARNING LIGHTS (ABS, ESC & DBC). I CALLED HYUNDAI, INFORMED THEM OF THIS AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THUR JAN 31, 2019 AT 9:30 A.M.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, I NOTICED A RATTLING/KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, UNDER THE HOOD. THE NOISE KEPT GETTING LOUDER, SPECIFICALLY AS THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. I NOTICED THAT THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE, WITH NO INCREASE IN SPEED & EVEN A DECREASE IN SPEED. DURING THIS TIME THE CAR WAS USING CRUISE CONTROL AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. AS I NOTICED THE KNOCKING NOISE GETTING LOUDER, I TAPPED THE BRAKES & THE VEHICLE'S SPEED DRAMATICALLY DECREASED TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. I TRIED TO SPEED THE VEHICLE UP & THE RPMS INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY, WHILE THE VEHICLE SPEED DID NOT. I THEN PUT MY FLASHERS ON TO SIGNAL THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE & THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, ALONG WITH OTHER SERVICE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE'S STEERING CAPACITY WAS TIGHT & THE RIDE BECAME EXTREMELY BUMPY AS THE SPEED DECREASED. AFTER ABRUPTLY STOPPING ON THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. I COULD SMELL THIS IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE & THE NOTICED THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, BUT THEN BEGAN TO TRY & TURN ON, WITH THE LIGHTS STARTING & THE START UP MUSICAL SOUND PLAYING. IT WOULD TURN ON & OFF 3 - 4 TIMES, SO I THEN REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE VEHICLE, STEPPED OUT & BACKED AWAY. THE SMOKE, THANKFULLY, SEEMED TO DISSIPATE AFTER 20 MINUTES. FIRE & POLICE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE & DID NOT FIND ANY FIRE, BUT DID SMELL THE BURNING SMELL I NOTICED IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY, WE NEVER COULD GET THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE TO CRANK AGAIN & ENDED UP HAVING IT TOWED BACK TO OUR LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP.

2014 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT- BRAKE LIGHT/ ABS LIGHT/ HILL DESCENT CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON IN VEHICLE AND AFTER A DAY OR TWO NEVER TURNED OFF. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS ASKED TO MAKE APPOINTMENT. DROVE MYSELF HOME AND AFTER PARKING I TURNED VEHICLE OFF BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO MAKE HUMMING NOISES LIKE SOMETHING WAS STILL RUNNING. RESTARTED CAR AND THEN TURNED OFF ENGINE AGAIN AND THE NOISE STOPPED. I WENT INSIDE MY HOUSE AND LESS THAN 5 MINUTES LATER THERE WAS A LOUD BANGING ON MY FRONT DOOR- A NEIGHBOR THAT RAN UP TO INFORM ME MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. I COMPLETED REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THIS VEHICLE AND IT ONLY HAD 35,000 MILES. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS SITUATION SO THAT NO OTHERS GO THROUGH THIS DEVASTATING SITUATION THAT I FACED TODAY.

INCIDENT OCCURRED ON I-65. MY HUSBAND AND I WERE TRAVELING HOME FROM A QUICK ROAD TRIP. WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 75MPH, OUR SANTE MADE A WEIRD NOISE, THEN LOUD SOUND AND WENT DEAD. MY HUSBAND FOUGHT TO CONTROL THE CAR, BARELY AVOIDED A POSSIBLE FATAL CRASH. WE CALLED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOLD THEY ONLY TOW 47 MILES. THE NEAREST DEALER WAS 50 MILES AWAY. WE WERE LEFT STRANDED, NO SERVICE OR TOW TRUCK FROM HYUNDAI SHOWED UP. HAD TO CALL FAMILY TO COME GET US (NEARLY 3 HOURS AWAY). WE HAD TO RENT A UHAUL AUTO TRANSPORT AND TRUCK TO RECOVER OUR CAR ON THE SIDE OF I-65, HEADING TO OUR HOMETOWN, WE WERE STRANDED IN VERBENA, AL. HYUNDAI FINALLY TOWED CAR TO DEALERSHIP ONCE IN HOMETOWN, WAS TOLD BY SERVICE TECH THAT OUR CAR HAD "CATASTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE AND A NEW ENGINE HAS BEEN ORDERED, AT NO CHARGE, DUE TO OUR CAR WAS PART OF THE RECALL. WAS TOLD WE "MIGHT" BE REIMBURSED FOR OUR INCURRED EXPENSE OF HAVING TO TOW THE CAR OURSELVES. WE PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW, WITH AN ADDED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PACKAGE, WHICH WE WERE ASSURED WE'D NEVER BE STRANDED, WHICH PROVED A USELESS SALES PLOY. 3 DISABLED PERSONS AND A HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER HAD TO MANUALLY LOAD THE CAR ONTO THE AUTO TRANSPORT, ONE OF WHICH FELL ON THE ROAD AND CUT THEIR KNEE. WHY IS ADDITIONAL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE OFFERED WHEN THE DEALERSHIP NEGLECTED TO INFORM US THAT THERE WAS ONLY A 47 MILE TOWING RADIUS. WE WERE ASSURED THAT "WE'D BE COVERED NO MATTER WHERE WE MIGHT TRAVEL. WE HAVE A RENTAL, WHICH RESULTED IN US PAYING A DEPOSIT OUT OF OUR OWN POCKET, "THAT SHOULD BE REFUNDED UPON RETURN OF THE RENTAL". FULL REIMBURSEMENT AND OR A NEW CAR SHOULD BE OFFERED, DUE TO THE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE (THE TERM THE HYUNDAI SERVICE TECH USED) THAT OCCURRED TO OUR 2014 SANTA FE SPORT WITH LESS THAN 53,000 MILES. THANKS HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR LEAVING US STRANDED.

THE CAR WILL NOT STAY ALIGNED. EVERY 1,000 MILES OR SO, THE STEERING GETS WILDLY OUT OF ADJUSTMENT AND CAUSES THE CAR TO DRIFT ALL OVER THE ROAD. IT IS FRIGHTENING TO DRIVE, ESPECIALLY IN DENSE TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT LINE WITH THE CAR. AT TIMES, THE STEERING WHEEL MUST BE AIMED FAR TO THE LEFT TO GO STRAIGHT. MOMENTS LATER, WITH NO WARNING, THE CAR DIVES TO THE LEFT AND THE WHEEL MUST BE HELD TO THE RIGHT. 'STRAIGHT' ON THE STEERING WHEEL IS NEVER STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD. THIS CONDITION IS HIGHLY INCONSISTENT AND SEEMS IRREPARABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN ALIGNED 8+ TIMES BY DIFFERENT SHOPS AND IT CONTINUES TO 'RESET ITSELF' BACK TO THIS NEARLY UNDRICEABLE CONDITION. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS AT 4,100 MILES. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 51,000 MILES. THE CONDITION IS THE SAME REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED, ROAD SURFACE, ROAD TYPE, OR CROWN IN THE ROADWAY. YOU CAN HEAR MANY CREAKS AND SOUNDS AND FEEL THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE FLEXING SIGNIFICANTLY AS YOU DRIVE. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THERE IS A STRUCTURAL DEFECT MAKING THE CAR UNSAFE TO OPERATE BOTH FOR THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION SYMPTOMS AND ALSO REGARDING ITS CRASHWORTHINESS.

AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE 15 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY, WE DROVE ON RESIDENTIAL STREET FOR ABOUT 1.5 MILES. AS I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING STRUCTURE THE ENGINE STOPPED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. I GLIDED THE VEHICLE TO A RED ZONE NO PARKING AREA ON THE STREET AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. BLACK SMOKE QUICKLY APPEARED FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND FLAMES QUICKLY APPEARED. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SOON BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES SHOOTING 4-6 FEET HIGH. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND SPRAYED THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WITH A FOAM FIRE RETARDANT. THEN THEY CUT THE HOOD LATCH AND OPEN THE HOOD. THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, WINDSHIELD AND THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS MELTED TO THE STREET AND THE TOW DRIVER HAD TO SMASH IT LOOSE.

I HAVE RECENTLY RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM HYUNDAI FROM NATIONAL TRAFFIC AND MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT FOR THE HYUNDAI SANTE FE SPORT 2014, SUV. THE PROBLEM ON THE LETTER STATES THERE ARE PROBLEMS IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE ENGINE, PRE-MATURE BEARING WEAR IN THE MOTOR AND THE BEARING CAN FAIL, AND VEHICLE COULD STALL WHILE IN MOTION, INCREASING RISK OF CRASH. I AM TAKING THE VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TODAY. THE VEHICLE IS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE THAT INCREASES IN FREQUENCY AS THE ENGINE RPM INCREASES. I DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY SO THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND JUST STARTED TO HEAR IT LAST NIGHT. IT HAS STARTED TO REDUCE POWER WHEN GAS IS ACCELERATED AND RPM INCREASE AND HESITATION OF VEHICLE MOVING FORWARD WHEN PUSHING DOWN ON GAS PEDAL. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I AM A MOTHER OF A 4 YEAR OLD SON, WE BOUGHT THE CAR ORIGINALLY FOR SAFETY. I AM DISSAPOINTED IN THIS VEHICLE AS IT WAS UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY TO DRIVE IN. I ALSO UTILIZE THE VEHICLE FOR WORK AND IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I WILL ALSO HAVE TO DEAL WITH FIGURING OUT TRANSPORTATION WHEN DEALING WITH HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. I AM UNCLEAR OF THE OUTCOME AT THIS MOMENT, BUT VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THIS VEHICLE.
