Vehicle: 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Mileage at Failure: ~129,000 miles Issue Type: Engine Failure / Valve / PCV-Related Defect Manufacturer & Dealer Both Denied Repair My 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe suffered a sudden engine failure at around 129,000 miles. The Hyundai dealer verbally told me the failure was caused by a faulty PCV valve, which is a known issue in Hyundai engines and can lead to severe oil loss, crankcase pressure problems, and ultimately engine failure. However, the printed diagnostic paperwork they provided listed a different reason for the failure, and the descriptions do not match what I was told verbally. This inconsistency makes me believe the cause is related to a known Hyundai engine defect that the manufacturer is not acknowledging. I contacted Hyundai Motor America directly, provided documentation, and requested warranty or goodwill repair assistance. They denied the claim even though the failure was due to a defective engine component and not misuse. This engine failure created a dangerous situation and appears to be consistent with Hyundai’s history of valve, oil system, and internal component defects. Given the mismatch between the verbal explanation and the written diagnosis, I am concerned the dealer and manufacturer are avoiding responsibility for a known defect. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Hyundai for potential PCV-valve-related engine failures and inconsistent denial practices.

The engine of our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has been significantly problematic since we first purchased the vehicle in 2017. These issues have been well documented by other Hyundai owners and have resulted in class action lawsuits. After purchasing our vehicle new from dealer, it began experiencing difficulties, consuming large amounts of oil, spewing smoke from the tailpipe, leaving metal shavings in the engine oil, failing to start, and at times going into a protection mode to keep the engine from further damage and restrict speed above 15 miles per hour. The vehicle had to be towed multiple times at our own expense. Hyundai delayed replacement of the engine for months resulting in thousands of additional miles being put on the vehicle under unsafe operating conditions. Hyundai reluctantly replaced the engine in February of 2024. What appears to not be well-documented in NHTSA complaints are the impacts of these engine issues to other Hyundai components and parts. Hyundai replaced our original engine but did not replace the engine’s catalytic converter. 20 months later, the check engine light has illuminated again as a direct result of oil sludge and buildup from accelerated oil consumption. In November 2025, the dealership identified the fault code P0420 for catalyst efficiency system below threshold. We have experienced a loss of acceleration, increased fumes, and decreased fuel efficiency as a result of the catalytic converter failure, and believe the vehicle is no longer safe to drive at high speeds on freeways. The dealership has confirmed damage to the catalytic converter and has quoted a replacement fee that is $5000, almost $1000 higher than other dealerships in our area. We asked for the dealership to submit a request to HMA for goodwill assistance and were denied on November 24th. We strongly believe that Hyundai is responsible for both the damage to the catalytic converter as well as the safety concerns caused by this issue.

We had the oil changed like always and shortly after I was checking the oil and it was not even on the dipstick so I added some and checked for leaks anywhere did not see any than we had problems with it barely accelerating so took it to dealership the performed the anti knock sensor upgrade for free and when I asked about the oil consumption they said that I needed to do a engine clean and all kinds of stuff came to like $400 so I had them do it because I can not have my wife stranded somewhere after all that they changed the oil again that was another $80 they said to bring it back at 1000 miles for them to check brought it back at 700 miles already used 1.5 qts they said engine is junk but cannot get anything done about because it had at the time 120000 miles

The vehicle’s engine is experiencing excessive internal oil consumption that poses a serious safety risk while driving. After a routine oil change performed by an authorized Hyundai dealer, the engine oil warning light illuminated within about 1,700 miles. Upon inspection by another Hyundai service center, technicians confirmed that the engine was burning oil abnormally and was three quarts low, with no external leaks. This issue was documented in the dealer’s repair order, which states “vehicle is burning excessive oil.” The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a Hyundai dealer. The vehicle is equipped with the Theta II 2.4L GDI engine, which is already covered under Hyundai’s KSDS (Knock Sensor Detection System) extended engine warranty due to known internal mechanical defects such as bearing wear and oil consumption. Despite this, the manufacturer has declined to replace the engine. The excessive oil burning occurs rapidly and triggers the low-oil warning light while the vehicle is in motion, creating a risk of engine seizure and sudden loss of power that could lead to a crash. The defect remains unresolved. Warning lights for low oil level appeared multiple times beginning in 2025, shortly after the KSDS update and knock-sensor replacement.

Starting in September 2022 the paint is peeling in several areas of 2017 Hyundai Santa fe with 36,000 miles. I have called many dealers around my area and No one will address this issue. All local Hyundai dealers refuse to address the recall . I called Hyundai corporate on several occasions and they refused to help me with this issue. I was told to find a dealer willing to paint it. There are not dealers with a Hyundai certified body shop that will paint it under the warranty. Hyundai sent a letter on Feb 13, 2023 stating the have extended the warranty but I am unable to get a dealer to repaint my peeling vehicle. Hyundai has refused to help me with this issue and told me if I cant find someone I will have to pay out of pocket for the paint to be fixed.

Driving down a 4 lane highway my car refused to accelerate and started shaking vigorously. My vehicles check engine light began to flask on and off. Had to pull off the high way and take the back roads the rest of the way home in fear that it would stop in the middle of the street. As we drove home, every time we would slow down or had to come to a stop the car would continue to shake and rattle with the check engine going and and off the rest of the way home. Took this to the dealership and they stated that I have a burnt exhaust valve on cylinder #2 along with needing a new catalytic converter and told me I should just replace the entire engine. I have 67k miles on a 2017 hyundai Santa Fe.

THERE'S ALWAYS A 2-3 SECONDS HESITATION IN SITUATIONS WHERE ACCELERATION IS NECESSARY. AFTER 2-3 SECONDS OF HESITATION AFTER STEPPING ON THE PEDAL FOR ACCELERATION, THE CAR REVS AND PRODUCES HIGH PITCHED AND LOUD SOUND WITH NO ACCELERATION OR ACCELERATES ABRUPTLY. QUICKLY MERGING INTO HIGHWAY, MAKING TURNS, CHANGING LANES FROM A FULL STOP AND SLOW MOVEMENT FEEL LIKE PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE. HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER ALWAYS CLAIMS THEY CANNOT REPLICATE MY COMPLAINT AND MY CONCERN IS IGNORED.

The engine in my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, specifically the 2.4L Theta II engine, failed and is available for inspection upon request. This failure caused the vehicle to stall unexpectedly while driving, creating a serious safety hazard due to the sudden loss of power and control. The issue has been diagnosed by a Hyundai dealership, which confirmed the engine requires replacement due to internal failure. The manufacturer has denied warranty coverage, alleging maintenance neglect by the previous owner. Prior to the failure, the Check Engine light illuminated, the vehicle began making knocking noises, and it experienced a loss of power before stalling.

I was pulling onto I75 at 6:00am when my car started shuttering, making a clicking/ knocking noise and slowing way down. Thankfully I was able to make it onto the shoulder before causing an accident. I was unable to accelerate enough to go anywhere so I called a tow truck. My car is burning oil at an extremely fast rate. I have to get my oil refilled about every 7-10 days with the only warning of low oil being a flicker of my oil light. Continue to be shut down by Hyundai when we mention it. Everyone I know with this engine has had to have it replaced or get a new car. But Hyundai doesn’t want to do anything about mine. Currently sitting in their lot and they said it would be about a month before they would even look at it.

SEVERE HESITATION OCCURS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FORM A STOP. HESITATION OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AND HAPPENS WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT. MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN IF THE ROAD SURFACE THAT THE VEHICLE IS TURNING ON TO IS ROUGH. THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AND THEN LOSE ACCELERATION. ALTHOUGH PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR DOES NOT SPEED UP EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE REVS UP. AFTER ABOUT 3 SECONDS THE VEHICLE THEN RESPONDS AND BEGINS TO ACCELERATE. SITUATION MAY OCCUR 3 OR 4 TIMES A WEEK. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND BECAUSE THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN WITHOUT WARNING.

YESTERDAY, WHILE DRIVING THE WARNING LIGHT SYMBOLS FOR THE ESC AND DBC CAME ON OUT OF THE BLUE. I WAS ON A LOCAL ROAD, NO INCLINE OR DECLINE, A STRAIGHT LEVEL ROAD WITH TRAFFIC MOVING AT ABOUT 30 MPH. IMMEDIATELY THE CAR SEEMED AS THOUGH IT DID NOT WANT TO GO FORWARD. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND THE WARNING SYMBOLS DISAPPEARED. I CONTINUED HOME AND PARKED THE CAR. WHILE IN PARK, THE TWO WARNING SYMBOLS ILLUMINATED AGAIN WITH AN ADDITIONAL WARNING OF MIL. THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN PARK AND A MESSAGE COMES ACROSS THE CONSOLE THAT THERE IS SOMETHING POSSIBLY WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE VEHICLE COULD LOSE POWER. I TURNED IT OFF AND ON AGAIN AND ON THE 3RD TRY, THE WARNING SYMBOLS DISAPPEARED. I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER THIS AFTERNOON FOR SERVICE AND ON THE INVOICE IT STATED THAT AN INHIBITOR SWITCH WAS INSTALLED / RECALL COMPLETED. NOW I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE NOR CAN I FIND ANYTHING ONLINE REGARDING PROBLEMS WITH THIS ISSUE.

TRANSMISSION SHIFTING IS ERRATIC. STUMBLES/SLAMS INTO GEAR 90% OF THE TIME. SHIFTING IS FELT THROUGHOUT ENTIRE CAR. TRANSMISSION UPSHIFTS WAY TO EARLY WHEN SLOWLY ACCELERATING OR DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. CAR COULD BE GOING 20 MPH AND HAS ALREADY PUT ITSELF IN 4TH OR 5TH GEAR. THEN WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR BUCKS AND WILL EVENTUALLY SLAM INTO THE LOWER GEAR THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN. MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT AND UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. TRANSMISSION DOESN'T DOWNSHIFT PROPERLY EITHER. YOU MUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE MAKING A TURN ONTO A STREET. IF NOT, THE CAR WILL NOT DOWNSHIFT TO THE CORRECT GEAR AND WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR WILL START BUCKING AND EVENTUALLY SLAMS INTO THE APPROPRIATE GEAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO SPRINGFIELD HYUNDAI IN SPRINGFIELD, PA TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. AFTER WAITING THERE FOR 3 HOURS, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT, BUT PERFORMED A "SOFTWARE UPDATE" THAT MAY HELP. I'M STILL NOT SURE HOW A CAR THAT WAS PURCHASED ONLY A MONTH PRIOR, FROM A HYUNDAI DEALER, HAD A "SOFTWARE UPDATE" THAT WASN'T PERFORMED BEFORE I PURCHASED IT. THE 14 YEAR OLD HONDA ELEMENT THAT I TRADED IN ON THIS CAR SHIFTED AND DROVE SMOOTHER.

I BOUGHT MY CAR IN JULY OF 2016. SINCE THEN I HAD ISSUE WITH THE ACCELERATION. SOMETIMES CAR TAKES LONGER TO START FROM THE STOP POSITION AND WHEN IT STARTS, IT JUST ACCELERATES. ON OTHER OCCASIONS, THE CAR FEELS LIKE STALLING WHILE DRIVING AND THEN PICK UP THE SPEED AGAIN. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AND I HAD BOUGHT TO THE SALES PERSON'S KNOWLEDGE AT THE BEGINNING, WHEN HE DROVE AROUND TO FEEL ABOUT THE SAME, IT DIDN'T OCCUR AT THAT TIME. BUT, EVERY NOW AND THEN THIS SEEMS TO BE THE ISSUE WITH ME.

EXCESSIVE ENGINE BRAKING ON DOWNHILL ROLL WITH CRUISE ENGAGED, WILL DOWNSHIFT THEN DOWNSHIFT AGAIN. WHILE REDUCING THE SPEED THE CRUISE WILL CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO UP-SHIFT STILL ROLLING DOWN THE SAME HILL AT THIS POINT THE CRUISE REALIZES THE SPEED INCREASE AND DOES A DOUBLE DOWNSHIFT FROM WHERE IT WAS. AT THIS POINT THE RPM HAS JUMPED TO JUST UNDER 5000 WITH THE ENGINE WHINING LIKE ITS IN PAIN. I LIVE IN AND TRAVEL, TO AND FROM WORK IN THE LOWER SAVANNAH RIVER AREA OF SOUTH CAROLINA. THE HILL THAT I WAS ON IS ABOUT THE LENGTH FOOTBALL FIELD AND THE SPEED LIMIT IS 55MPH UNSURE OF THE GRADE, BUT AS I EXPLAINED WHERE WE LIVE. THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED THIS ISSUE THE ODOMETER HAD JUST OVER A THOUSAND MILES AND JUST THOUGHT IT WAS AN ANOMALY BUT NOW IT HAS JUST UNDER THREE THOUSAND MILES AND IT STILL HAS THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AS A WEDDING GIFT FOR MY WIFE AND SHE'S SCARED TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL ISSUES. SHE WOULD RATHER DRIVE HER 2007 SANTA FE THE CRUISE CONTROL IN IT ACTS NORMAL AND FEELS DEPENDABLE, EVEN WITH 114,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE CONTACTED HYUNDAI MOTORS AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER WITH NO RESULTS. HYUNDAI ASSIGNED ME CASE WORKER ANGELA GODBEY (714) 965-7049 SHE CLOSED THE CASE 8/23/17, BUT NOT WITHOUT GIVING INDICATION THAT THE PROBLEM IS A MANUFACTURERS INSTALLED DEFECT.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2017 SANTA FE SPORT ON 5-26-17. ON 7-19-17 AT AROUND 7100 MILES I RECEIVED A MESSAGE WARNING ME OF THE ENGINE OVERHEATING. I PUT A PHONE CALL IN THE FOLLOWING MORNING TO MY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT INTO THE SHOP 7-20-17 (THUR). THAT AFTERNOON I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY SERVICE ADVISER STATING THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND THEY COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE. I THEN RESTATED IT WAS NOT AN ENGINE LIGHT BUT AN ACTUAL MESSAGE STATING THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATNG. HE THEN CALLED ME BACK 10 MINUTES LATER STATING THERE IN FACT WAS A LEAK IN THE WATER PUMP AND THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE GASKET AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THE PART UNTIL 7-25-17 (TUES). WHEN I FINALLY GOT MY CAR BACK ON THE 26TH (WED) ALL SEEMED FINE AGAIN. ON FRIDAY 7-28-17 WHILE DRIVING ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 60 MILES PER HOUR I FELT THE CAR DOWN SHIFT AND RPM'S STARTED GOING WELL OVER 5000 AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT WAS TO PUSH ON THE BREAK THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITHEN AN HOUR SPAN. I CONTACTED DEALER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD TO BRING CAR BACK. NOTE THEY ALSO HAD TO FIX A SCRATCH PUT ON MY PASSENGER MIRROR FROM WHEN CAR WAS SERVICED THE FIRST TIME. I BROUGHT MY SANTA FE BACK IN ON MONDAY 7-31-17 AND FINALLY DECIDED TO CONTACT SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON WED 8-2-17 WHEN NO BODY CALLED TO LET ME KNOW OF ISSUES. SINCE THEN TODAYS DATE IS 8-10-17 I CONTACTED DEALER AGAIN TO FIND OUT STATUS AS OF RIGHT NOW THEY HAD TO REPLACE HEAD GASKET , REPROGRAM CRUISE CONTROL AND REPLACE THERMOSTAT ON TOP OF THE GASKET THEY ALREADY REPLACED ON WATER PUMP. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ALSO STATED THEY STILL SMELL COOLANT IN MY SUV WHICH CONCERNS ME STILL SINCE I AM 5 MONTHS PREGNANT. I DID START CASE WITH HYUNDAI USA AND AM WAITING TO HERE WHAT OPTIONS I MAY HAVE BUT KNOW I DO NOT WANT THIS SUV BACK FOR MY SAFETY.

2017 SANTA FE SPORT 2.0T ULTIMATE AWD - HESITATION OCCURS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM LOW SPEEDS, MOST FREQUENTLY OBSERVED WHEN MAKING TURNS. STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR CAUSES THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT TO BLINK AND THE ENGINE TO EFFECTIVELY STALL OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS. WHEN THE THROTTLE DOES ENGAGE AFTER THE HESITATION, IT IS IN A VIOLENT MANNER. THIS HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN NOT, AND IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR OVER A YEAR AND HAVE 20,000+ MILES ON IT. THIS IS A REOCCURRING ISSUE. HAD I BEEN AWARE OF THIS SITE, I WOULD'VE FILED A COMPLAINT IMMEDIATELY.

While driving my vehicle, the check engine light came on, and the engine entered limp mode, severely reducing power and acceleration. This presented a significant safety risk while traveling on the highway, especially during lane changes and merges. The issue was later diagnosed by a certified Hyundai dealer as Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1326, which relates to the knock sensor detecting potential engine bearing wear. The dealer confirmed this issue and performed related inspection work under Hyundai’s Service Campaign T3G. No prior warning signs appeared before the incident. Hyundai has issued a known campaign for this issue, but no recall appeared under my VIN at the time. I incurred rental and rideshare costs due to the vehicle being held at the dealer for several days. This condition severely impacts the drivability and safety of the vehicle.

Engine oil consumption test at 1,000 miles after oil change. All oil gone. Happened for two oil changes. Engine light came on. I paid 5k in repairs for catalytic converter/manifold. Dealer contacted Hyundai to do combustion cleaning they said no. Dealer told me keep checking oil as my engine will seize on me. I'm terrified and this is dangerous to me and others. Hyundai knows of this oil engine problem still no recall.

After oil change, i noticed oil spots on driveway. Took it back to place that did oil change. They told me I had a crack in my oil pan and that it was caused by some sort of engine defect that causes engine oil pressure fluctuations that eventually cause the pan to crack. I believe NHTSA has opened an investigation into this issue.

My vehicle is consuming oil at an unacceptable rate. I have to put oil in it weekly and the oil indicator light doesn’t work. It has been ongoing since I purchased it and the Hyundai service center said it was carbon build up which they had cleaned. It cost me over $500 and didn’t solve the issues. It also doesn’t always want to shift gears and feels like it’s starting to go into limp mode. Which I had to have my vehicle towed last year and they said it was spark plugs. I am extremely disappointed and regret getting this “certified” vehicle.

Our engine keeps burning through oil, we have tried to work with Wilkins Hyundai service center and Hyundai's consumer affair. We have gone through their process of going in for oil changes at every 1,000 miles, however, oil has been burning before the required mark and we have gone in at 700 miles or less because the engine light goes on our engine knocks, the truck shakes, and the truck wants to shut off as we try to accelerate. We do not feel safe in our truck. How it began, towards the end of May, we called the service desk to disclose how we had an oil change and our truck had the oil light on, which was odd because we had just had an oil change. Wilkins service center asked us to take in the truck and they added the oil. Fast forward we have done this several times and we were asked to bring in the truck at 1000 miles, 700 miles, and we found ourselves coming in for oil changes sooner than the suggested miles. We were asked to follow their oil change procedure and come in three times then we will take a combustion test. To this day, we are receiving the run around with excuses and we have followed what the service center employees (past and present) have told us to do. During this time there have been major turnovers at the Wilkins service center and we have dealt with different employees with different excuses at the service center regarding our truck, even though we have complied with previous management. Regardless of who we dealt with, our vehicle was purchased there at Wilkins and has only been serviced there, new management has not been helpful with our situation that is not our fault. There is an issue with the engine we are aware of the HyundaiThetaEngineSettlement.com, as the service people should also be aware. We are now going on a month of no follow-up as to a resolution after we complied at our end, there is a paper trail, notes in their "system" and now they want us to restart the process all over again because of their error.

Paint is peeling for no reason.

Pearl White 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport purchased from dealer in 2020- paint began peeling, bubbling, and chipping from hood badly in 2022 and has increased, now starting to spread to side panels. Issue confirmed by multiple2017-2018 Elantra and Santa Fe owners in multiple places, multiple NHTSA complaints filed, class action lawsuit has been filed for the same issue with same make/model and vin beginning (5NM). A White Paint Warranty Extension Launch has been issued by Hyundai Assurance Car Care in December 2022, though consumers have complained that the dealers are making it exceedingly difficult to cover this known and widespread manufacturer issue; many dealers refuse to issue any coverage, or even reimbursement, many others offer only partial coverage. Most consumers are having to pay for the service in full, apply for reimbursement through Hyundai, and fight for extremely delayed full reimbursement. NO RECALLS ISSUED FOR THIS KNOWN AND CONFIRMED ISSUE.

This is a 2017 Santa Fe Sport with pearl white paint. The paint has peeled in 5 different spots on the car. I have taken it in 2 different times to have it repainted. It was told many times by the service people that this is a known issue to Hyundai but that corporate wouldn't do anything about it. The first time, the dealership completely covered the costs of the paint job in good faith since it was out of warranty. The second time, I was required to pay 5% of the paint job. End of February 2023, I received a letter from Hyundai corporate acknowledging an issue with the paint. They extended my warranty coverage 6 years from the date of purchase...so I had 2 months (until April 2023) of extra coverage. Does not seem like too much of an "extended warranty". This is a known issue yet it is barely being taken care of by Hyundai. They need to stand behind their products. I should also state that currently, I have 3 more spots where the paint is peeling and I need to take it in...again...for the third time.

TAKATA RECAL: WHILE MERGING ON TO THE HIGHWAY ONRAMP, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY. IT WON'T GO ABOVE 50 MPH EVEN WHEN I FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN GRADUALLY ACCELERATE. THIS WAS DANGERS AS I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED, SPEED LIMIT WAS 65 MPH. IF YOU HAVE TO GUN-IT, THE VEHICLE FAILS TO REGISTER THE ACCELERATION PROPERLY. IT'S LIKE IT SKIPS A GEAR AND GETS STUCK AT THE LOWER GEAR SETTING. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS WHEN YOU FLOOR THE ACCELERATION PEDAL.

I'M HAVING A RANDOM PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE WHICH RELATES TO THE ACCELERATION. THE CAR SOMETIMES FAILS TO RESPONDS TO THE ACCELERATOR WHEN PRESSED. I HAVE NOTICED THIS WHEN THE CAR IS IN ECO DRIVE MODE AND THE REVS SEEM OK AND THE ENGINE FAILS TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR BUT ALL OF SUDDEN THE CAR JERKS FORWARD WITH DRIVER HAVING LITTLE CONTROL UNTIL IT EVENS OUT AGAIN. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY PATTERN TO IT AND AS A RESULT IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO DUPLICATE. I HAVE TALKED TO HYUNDAI USA AND ALSO WITH MY LOCAL DEALER AS OF YET I HAVE NO FIX. WILL BRING IT INTO DEALER ONCE MORE AND TAKE IT FROM THERE. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THIS A SAFETY ISSUE AND AS A FATHER OF TWO YOUNG CHILDREN THIS IS OF GREAT CONCERN AND WORRY

MY WIFE IS SHORT AND NEEDS TO SIT ON A CUSHION, WHILE RIDING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. UNFORTUNATELY, THE CAR INTERPRETS THIS CUSHION AS A CHILD RESTRAINING SEAT AND SHUTS OFF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. THIS PRESENTS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR HER. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN 2017. WE RECENTLY WERE GOING TO BUY A NEW HYUNDAI, BUT THE SAME PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SEVERAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS, BUT THEY HAVE NO SOLUTIONS. Check engine light came on to check the oil and I had recently had an oil change and all of a sudden within a week or two I needed to fill my oil back up and it's gone through two quarts of oil since my oil change this has been going on for 2 years I did not know there was some place like this where I could follow a complaint. I constantly put oil in my car because my car is constantly low on oil and there is no evidence of the oil leaking onto the ground whatsoever. I don't know where the oil is going to but it's not leaking on the ground and there's just been a constant issue for the past 2-3 years

THERE HAS BEEN A KNOCK SINCE THE CAR WAS BOUGHT 3 YRS AGO. IT BURNS THREW AT ABOUT1-2 QUART OF OIL EVERY 2000 MILES TRIGGERING THE OIL LIGHT TO COME ON. OIL CHANGES ARE DONE EVERY 3000 MILES WITH FULL SYNTHETIC ALWAYS. IT'S ALSO BEEN TAKEN INTO HYUNDAI OF OLYMPIA FOR ACCELERATION ISSUE WHILE DRIVING (DOESN'T SHIFT UP/DOWN, SHIFT VERY HARD, STUTTERS WHEN SHIFTING) ALSO ASKED ABOUT OIL CONSUMPTION WHEN TAKEN IN FOR RECALL AND WAS TOLD THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS NORMAL.

INTERMITTENTLY THE VEHICLE WILL HESITATE DURING ACCELERATION FROM A STANDING START. IT APPEARS RELATED TO TURBO LAG, BUT TO THE EXTREME AND IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. MOST RECENTLY, AS I WENT TO TAKEOFF I WAS MOMENTARILY STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AS I WAS PULLING INTO ON-COMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS JUST THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT A TURBO BOOST IS SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE. THIS ISSUE IS WELL-DOCUMENTED ON THE HYUNDAI AUTO FORUMS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. AGAIN, THIS NOT AN INCONVENIENCE. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND HYUNDAI SEEMS UNCONCERNED ABOUT SOLVING THIS ISSUE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE UNLESS YOU FORCE THEM TO FIX THIS ISSUE. AND IF YOU DON'T, THE BLOOD WILL BE ON THE NHTSA'S HANDS AS WELL. THIS IS ALSO NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS OCCURED, BUT THE MOST RECENT AND SERIOUS EXAMPLE SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE.

I brought the car 4/2023 within 2 weeks I had to big it back brakes locking up replaced rotors and pads. Then the strut on right needed to be replaced because of noise and pulling, still pulls. Then the fuel pump went replaced that anc then the differential was replaced but still slipping. The oil light came in after the oil change had to add oil and requesting consumption test. I have had this car 6 months and nobody has figured out what’s going on.

My car is burning to much oil which has caused my car to have a check engine light. I was not due for an oil change until end of July 2023 and the car was barely with no oil. I took it in to get an oil change at Valvoline and they confirmed no oil was hardly in the chamber and that my car needed an oil consumption test by dealer. Hyundai models have been having multiple issues with engine failure. This is a safety Hazard as on the road is when I noticed my car shutting off on me. I am working on getting this taken care of with corporate Hyundai and dealer.

STARTING FROM A DEAD STOP OR AT LOW SPEEDS THIS VEHICLE HESITATES TO GO FOR AT LEAST 3-4 SECONDS MAKING IT UNSAFE IF ANOTHER VEHICLE IS COMING AT YOU. WHEN TURNING FROM A DEAD STOP THE ANTI SLIP LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THIS OCCURS, THIS HAS HAPPENED DURING DRY WEATHER. THIS OCCURS MOST FREQUENTLY IN EITHER ECO OR REGULAR DRIVING MODE, NOT SO MUCH WITH SPORT MODE. I DON'T LIKE DRIVING IN SPORT MODE TOO MUCH AS IT WASTES FUEL. I'VE NOTED A WHOLE LOT OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE AND FEEL THAT HYUNDAI NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS! WE LEASED THIS VEHICLE IN DEC 2016 AND IT HAS LESS THAN 9000 MILES ON IT AS OF THIS DEC 2017.

Dec 03, 2020
WE BOUGHT OUR 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT USED; IT HAD ONLY 11,000 MILES ON IT. DRIVING HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP, I NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHUDDER VIOLENTLY WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL, AND AS THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNED TO CENTER AFTER A TURN. THIS MAKES IT CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL, AND NEARLY GOT ME INTO A FEW ACCIDENTS SINCE I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS SUGGESTS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING COLUMN OR WORSE; THE STEERING RACK. IF THERE IS SLIPPING GOING ON IN THE STEERING COLUMN OR RACK, IT COULD BE DANGEROUS, AS THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE DIFFICULTY STEERING, OR LOSE THE ABILITY TO STEER COMPLETELY WHEN IN DRIVE. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH AN ISSUE WHILE DRIVING ANY OTHER VEHICLE.

THIS VEHICLE HAS DANGEROUS HESITATION ISSUES AT LOWER SPEEDS. I DRIVE IN HEAVY SLOW TRAFFIC FREQUENTLY AND CHANGING LANES OR ACCELERATING AT LOWER SPEEDS IS DANGEROUS AND I FEAR AN ACCIDENT COULD EASILY HAPPEN. WHEN TRAVELLING AT SPEEDS BELOW 20MPH AND THERE IS NEED TO ACCELERATE TO CHANGE LANES, THE VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN THE GAS IS APPLIED. IT CAN BE FOR 3 OR 4 SECONDS BEFORE THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY ACCELERATES, BY THIS TIME, THE CARS COMING UP IN THE LANE I'M MOVING INTO, HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO AVOID HITTING ME. I'VE HAD IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG AND SUGGESTED THAT I TRY USING A DIFFERENT DRIVING MODE, WHICH I DID WITH THE SAME RESULT. THIS HAPPENS EVERYDAY UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES AND HAS SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. IT'S AN ON-GOING PROBLEM. THE DEALER IS OBVIOUSLY PLAYING DUMB WITH REGARDS TO THE ISSUE, BECAUSE THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF COMMENTS ON THE INTERNET, ALL STATING THE SAME ISSUE. I SERIOUSY AM CONSIDERING SELLING THE CAR BECAUSE OF HOW DANGEROUS IT IS. SAD THAT HYUNDAI CAN'T ADMIT THE PROBLEM. NHTSA, PLEASE STEP IN AND MAKE THEM ACCOUNTABLE.

I HAVE A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2.0 WITH 8500 MILES ON IT. SINCE I TOOK POSSESSION OF THIS CAR, I HAVE BEEN HAVING REPEATED OCCURRENCES OF ENGINE STALLING COUPLED WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT GOING ON. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I MAKE EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS INTO TRAFFIC: ACCELERATION STALLS COMPLETELY FOR 2-3 SECONDS, AND THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT FLASHES. I CANNOT GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE AT ALL, EVEN WITH THE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE ENGINE REVS EXTREMELY HARD, BUT THE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE. THIS HAPPENS ON COMPLETELY DRY PAVEMENT. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE, AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE COME CLOSE TO BEING REAR ENDED MULTIPLE TIMES, AND I HAVE NEARLY BEEN T-BONED WHEN TAKING A TURN IN FRONT OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, AND IT IS WIDE SPREAD WITH HUNDREDS OF IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE DIES IN THE 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE.

VEHICLE HESITATES FOR A SECOND OR TWO WHEN ACCELERATING, BOTH FROM A FULLY STOPPED POSITION, OR WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. DID NOT TEST HIGH SPEEDS. THIS CAN BE A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY ON A HIGHWAY. DEALER SERVICE SAID THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, BUT IT IS VERY REAL, AND VERY SCARY. I HAD DOCUMENTED THIS ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES WITH HYUNDAI SUPPORT BUT THEY JUST KEEP CLOSING THE CASE WITHOUT ANY ACTION.

MY 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2.0T ULTIMATE HESITATES STARTING FROM A STOP ESPECIALLY ON TURNS, TO THE POINT THAT IT CAN BE DANGEROUS, AS IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE IT WILL FULLY ACCELERATE AND I CAN AVOID ANY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT SEEMS MORE PRONOUNCED IN REGULAR AND ECO MODE THAN SPORT MODE. THE ANTI-SKID TRACTION LIGHT USUALLY GOES ON WHEN IT IS HAPPENING. THIS OCCURS AT SLOW SPEED. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER, AND IT WAS CHECKED BY A FACTORY REP WHO WAS THERE THAT DAY, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS JUST THE WAY THE CAR WORKS AND IT IS THE AUTOMATIC ANTI-SKID TRACTION CONTROL WORKING.I HAVE BEEN JUST VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TURN WITHOUT A LOT OF SPACE FROM ANY ONCOMING CARS AND I TRY TO USE SPORT MODE TO LESSEN THE OCCURRENCES. THIS OF COURSE REDUCES FUEL ECONOMY. I HAVE NOW SEEN ONLINE REPORTS BY MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND REALIZE IT IS DEFINITELY NOT NORMAL AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. I HEARD THERE MAY NOW BE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS.

All the ABS, Traction Control lights come on at various times. They will stay on for hours to days and then go off. I asked Hyundai to fix it, even took a pic with me when I was there last, and they said there was nothing wrong with it. It still does it. I don't know if anything is actually wrong, a bad sensor, or what. It has been doing it for 2 years. The speed of the vehicle does not matter. When it comes on, it can be from start or during driving. Sometimes restarting will solve it. Not always.

Last year 2021, I was notified of a recall: NHTSA # 22V056000. I scheduled the repair with a dealer in Florida on March 30, 2022. Upon arriving at the dealership I was told that parts are not available. The recall is to prevent the vehicle from catching on fire and we are advised NOT to park the vehicle in the house. On May 20, 2022, I scheduled the recall repair with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle: Bowser Hyundai, Pleasant Hills PA 15236 and was told that HYUNDAI does not have a "fix" for this problem. Should I continue to park the vehicle outside and for how long?

The contact was adding synthetic oil every 3,000 miles driven and the oil would be depleted soon after. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the engine was rattling after attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the camshaft phaser and knock sensor needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was later taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil pan was cracked. The contact stated that the oil pan was not cracked. The camshaft phaser had been replaced but the vehicle was not repaired. The check oil warning light was illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,840.

The contact unaware of any warning lights being illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after numerous attempts. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer however, the vehicle failed to accelerate above 20 MPH. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle had been experiencing hesitation while depressing the accelerator pedal weeks prior to the engine failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V578000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 90,500.

am writing you today in frustration with my treatment at both your dealership Hyundai Streetsboro and Hyundai of Bedford. When I first purchased my vehicle I expressed concern regarding the hesitation while accelerating and the emense amount of oil this vehicle burns. When I scheduled all my services I expressed the same concern only to be told that it's normal rate or oil consumption. I am extremely nervous when merging into traffic because I never know when the car may decide to not accelerate. I have tired on numerous occasions to get this issue checked by two separate dealership but both dismissed my concerns. I have emails and expressed concerns when using the dealership online service request forms. In summary the vehicle hesitates when trying to accelerate, especially merging into traffic. The vehicle also burns oil at an unreasonable rate as a result of a faulty engine.

UNKNOWN It started with the engine suddenly reducing my speed down to 10 mph while I was driving on the freeway, the check engine light turned on. We then took it to the Hyundai dealership who turned us a way and told us they couldn’t see us for several months. So we were forced to take it to a repair shop who ran a compression test and told us it failed. We were able to speak to the dealership a few days later who asked us to take it in they re ran the test and told us it passed but they needed to do some updates to the knock sensor due to multiple recalls they had failed to inform us on (even though they had conducted an update back in 2019) after this they conducted several oil consumption tests which have averaged a liter or more consumed per 500 miles. During this time the vehicle repeatedly had knocking sounds, warning light flashes, sputtering of the engine, occasional stalling, and marked issues with acceleration from a stop, amongst other concerning issues. We then we’re required to have a combustion cleaning by the dealership, this not only didn’t solve any of the previous issues but increased the oil consumption to as much as 1.5 liters in around 330 miles. The dealership confirmed that the vehicle had been properly maintained and it hadn’t been tampered with but Hyundai continues to refuse to replace the engine. Even though many of the other engines with similar issues have since caught on fire and endangered the occupants. The vehicle continues to jerk when accelerating and consume oil at an alarming rate.

I have need to get 3 oil changes within the past month and a half. Twice I was told I was driving with no oil in my car and the engine was getting ready to go. I notice when I start my car in the morning it is making a rattling noise, this also happens when I try to accelerate and the car will get stuck in gear and hesitate before speeding up. It's been dangerous trying to drive on this highway. I also notice a thick white smoke coming from my muffler. I'm constantly paying for unnecessary oil changes and diagnostic from independent service centers and was told my motor is bad and causing all this oil consumption. I was told to contact Hyundai but no luck.

WITHIN DAYS OF TAKING DELIVERY, THE VEHICLE WOULD TAKE 3-4 SECONDS TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, AND WOULD NOT FULLY ACCELERATE UNTIL ALMOST 10 SECONDS LATER, CREATING A HUGE SAFETY ISSUES FOR TIMES WHEN SPEEDY ACCELERATION (AT INTERSECTIONS, CLOSE CALLS, ETC.) WAS PARAMOUNT. FROM THERE, THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM GLITCHED OUT AND WOULD NOT TURN ON UNTIL I RESTARTED THE CAR, AND IT HAD ISSUES WITH VOICE COMMANDS INTERMITTENTLY, DEFEATING THE PURPOSE OF A HANDS-FREE DEVICE (ONCE AGAIN CREATING MORE SAFETY CONCERNS). MOST REGULARLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD STRUGGLE SO BADLY TO ACCELERATE FROM 0-40, AND 50-60, AND WOULD REDLINE, CAUSING HUGE STRESS AND STRAIN ON THE VEHICLE'S POWER TRAIN. HYUNDAI TOLD ME "THIS IS NORMAL" WHICH IT IS NOT. THIS HAPPENED DAILY AT INTERSECTIONS, BACK ROADS, AND ON HIGHWAYS--IT DID NOT DISCRIMINATE. I HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES WHEN THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO ACCELERATE. IN FACT, JUST TODAY, I WENT TO ACCELERATE THROUGH A TURN AND HAD THE GAS PEDAL FLOORED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 10 MPH. IT TOOK A FULL 20 SECONDS TO GET UP TO SPEED. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN ALL DRIVING MODES: ECO, NORMAL, AND TURBO.

I took my Hyundai to the dealer Anderson Hyundai in Anderson SC in March 2022 for an issue with all 3 of the brake warning lights coming on and was told that there was a recall. I was told that they took care of the issue. A week later all 3 lights came on again and the service manager informed me that that fix didn't work. I was also told that my car could catch fire and that I should receive another notice. When I received that 2nd recall notice I was then told that they could look at it but it would cost me to fix it. The issue is when I start the car the odometer spikes up to the 20 mile mark and then those 3 warning lights come on it isn't fixed. It has also displayed those warning lights while traveling on the road.

The rear seats vibrate @ 60 mph+. The seats cause the entire vehicle to shake. I cannot place a child in the seat or an adult for fear the seats will come unhinged. Additionally, sometimes it is difficult to determine if the road is rough or if it is the seats. The vehicle has been inspected by two dealerships (w/ records) but it cannot be fixed. I have reported the issue to Hyundai corporate and have been told it's in my hands and the seat dysfunction is not covered by any warranty due to it being a manufacturing issue. The issue began shy of reaching the vehicle's standard warranty (it has an extended warranty from its original purchase).

The light for the passenger airbag has been on for years. I have taken it in, and the only thing the service department determined is that there was a water bottle under the seat. I was rear-ended into another vehicle, and the airbag did not deploy. The engine burns the oil from an oil change in approximately two weeks. I add a quart of oil every two weeks. If the engine seizes while driving due to this condition, I could be injured in an accident.

I am the current owner a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. While I was driving my SUV on the highway at highway speeds at 60mph, the oil pressure and the check engine warning light illuminated all of sudden after around 1 hour of smooth ride. In the meantime, suddenly the vehicle lost motive power, the steering wheel seized and smoke came immediately. Losing motive power in running conditions and smoke coming out during failure could have endangered our lives. The smoke came out due to leakage of engine oil probably. The vehicle was stuck in the middle of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence and then after Hyundai Dealership. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,245 only. Before reporting to NHSTA I have seen numerous complaints about high oil consumption and burnt valves on Theta II engines around 2017 santafe sport model and very similar occurrence of events happening to all while driving the vehicle on highways. Hyundai must need to provide support to this year model and make vehicles.

My ABS and Traction Control lights keep going off, intermittently. They have been doing it for several years. It can be for hours or for days. I took a video of it happening a couple years ago, and photos, also. More recently my speedometer has started jumping. I had the ABS recall performed when it was first implemented. When I've taken my vehicle to Hyundai (twice now specifically for this) they say they can see no codes and will do nothing. From what I have read on the ABS recall, this is what are the symptoms of it. I am under the impression that I have somehow gotten a defective part, even when they did the recall. The recall was that it could cause an engine fire. Today driving home, for a second, downhill, the oil light came on for a second-then went off. I came home and parked. My husband checked. He said there is no oil in the car. That, I imagine is part of the other engine issue this model has. But you would think the oil light would come on sooner and STAY on. He is going to get some oil and then take it to a shop when he gets off work. My main concern is getting the ABS/speedometer fixed as I believe it is from the first recall. The second issue-that is probably a Hyundai "recognized" issue. They just keep telling me nothing is wrong with the ABS/speedometer though. I have photos spanning several year, it falls in line with the recalled issue. Just replace the part already. The last date I went to Hyundai was Monday last week, so I'll put that as the incident date, as I was there for the ABS/speedometer. I had to drive an hour each way to see them twice now to be told they can't do anything. Today the oil light came on.

While driving on a highway in April 2025, my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport suddenly lost all power after approximately 10 minutes of normal driving. All dashboard warning lights illuminated, and both the accelerator and brake pedals became unresponsive. I was forced to stop the vehicle using the handbrake in the middle of a 65 mph highway, creating an extremely dangerous situation for myself and other drivers. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had displayed the P1326 knock sensor code multiple times over a 10-month period, each time accompanied by hesitation when accelerating. The knock sensor was replaced twice under used car warranty by Honda. Despite these interventions, the same code and symptoms recurred. The Hyundai dealership(Dec 2024 at Montgomery, Jan 2025 at Enterprise) repeatedly stated that there was “nothing wrong with the engine.” After the highway failure, the vehicle was inspected by a collision center and an independent mechanic. They confirmed that Cylinder 4 had no compression and diagnosed a burnt valve. Full engine replacement was recommended. Hyundai initially indicated that the engine might be covered under the extended warranty but later denied the claim, stating that the damage was due to a cylinder issue and can not check bearing failure. They also claimed it was too late to determine whether the bearing was the cause. This is not an isolated issue. Many Hyundai owners across the U.S. have reported identical symptoms—P1326 code, hesitation, cylinder compression loss, and ultimately engine failure—particularly in vehicles equipped with the Theta II engine. These failures often occur around or after 100,000 miles, despite regular maintenance. This ongoing and widespread cylinder-related engine failure presents a serious safety risk and must be addressed through manufacturer accountability, improved diagnostic standards, and proactive repair or recall efforts.

My 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe had a new engine installed at the dealership, Fred Beans Hyundai Flemington, NJ. I picked it up on [XXX] on [XXX] (and after 134 miles) my car's check engine light came on. I rerouted to dealership about 8 miles. Sitting outside service bay, I smelled smoke and then saw smoke coming out of vents. I then jumped out of car and the car became engulfed in flames and subsequently exploded. The day I picked it up, I pointed out to the service manager that they had not reattached everything to the car properly, sloppy workmanship. Best guess is that they did not attach a valve correctly. I believe it is a clock spring failure. The airbag light is on & the buttons on the steering wheel do not work. I searched it & have seen several posts of others having same issue. I really feel this should be looked into, cause this is highly unsafe to be driving around with what very well could be an airbag that doesn't deploy & could seriously hurt drivers. Also, the contact stated the vehicle uses 5 quarts of oil within a 2 week period.

I purchased my vehicle at 51,700 miles. Approx 2 months …1,000-2,000 miles later my car went into limp mode and wouldn’t exceed 20 mph. I also noticed that my vehicle was consuming 4-qts of oil every 1,000 miles since then and is experiencing engine failure. It’s a safety hazard to myself and others as the car just shuts off completely while driving. Hyundai won’t do anything about it. I have documents to show every oil change/maintenance on vehicle.

I was driving on the highway in a mountainous area going downhill. The cruise control was on with the speed set at about 80 miles/hour. Then the car was losing speed, the RPM needle started swinging from left and right. I stepped on the accelerator but the car continue losing speed to 40 miles/hour and continue losing speed. I turned on the emergency light to warn the other drivers and was able to move the car to the shoulder and stopped it without an accident. But the cars behind me could have smashed into my car that day and that would be the last day for my mother (in the car at that time) and me. The car had 41000 miles on it and we had the maintenance done just recently. I did not notice anything else abnormal before the incident. We reported the problem to the dealer and have to pay for the dealer to inspect the car. The inspection has been scheduled but not done yet.

The left rear differential completely failed at 25,000 miles. According to the repair shop (Connie & Dicks in Claremont, CA) there was something structurally wrong with the rear differential and it never should have failed like this on a 5 year old car with 25,000 miles. The pinion nut was loose which caused the pinion gear to walk forward and backward in the housing which caused wear on the differential and resulted in catastrophic differential failure.

WHILE TURNING LEFT FROM A STOP ONTO A STATE HIGHWAY IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA ALL ACCELERATIVE CAPABILITY WAS LOST WHEN THE VEHICLE CROSSED A SET OF RAILROAD TRACKS AT AN ESTIMATED 5 MPH, MID-WAY THROUGH THE TURN. THE AWD VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A 2.4L NORMALLY ASPIRATED ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE 'ECO' DRIVING MODE AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS IN THE 'D' RANGE. ATTEMPTS TO ADD POWER VIA THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WERE MET WITH NO INCREASE IN ENGINE RPM AND, CONSEQUENTLY, NO INCREASE IN VEHICLE SPEED. THE CONDITION PERSISTED FOR 10-12 SECONDS, DURING WHICH TIME THE VEHICLE TRAVELED ONLY 75-90 FEET WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NEARLY 'FLOORED.' THERE WAS NO SHOULDER AND ONLY ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION, WHICH PRECLUDED MOVING THE VEHICLE TO A PLACE OF RELATIVE SAFETY. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE SUNNY AND CLEAR, AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS 55F. THE ROADWAY SURFACE WAS CLEAN DRY, AND FREE OF LOOSE MATERIAL OR CONTAMINANTS. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON A TANGENT SECTION OF HIGHWAY WITH NO GRADE AND A CROWN SLOPE OF APPROXIMATELY 2-PERCENT.
