Engine burns prodigious amounts of oil. Uses one quart in about 400 miles. Hyundai verified this with their 1000 mile oil consumption test. The only reason that this engine did not spin the crankshaft bearings from running dry on oil is because I was so diligent in filling the crankcase. A service writer at Happy Hyundai said that I needed a new long block, but the dealership refused because I had 103,000 miles on the engine. They knew about the problems with oil burning on Theta engines, but were happy to send me on my way knowing that I would be putting oil in my car often. This is not acceptable. Can you help me?

I recently purchased this used vehicle in June(2025) and after a couple of months of owning the vehicle, I started noticing the car oil level when I checked, started being lower than normal pretty frequently. And it has gotten to the point where I would have to top the oil off every week only after driving a few 100 miles. When I went for my oil change this October, I did informed Hyundai about the issue and they told me to drive the vehicle for 900 miles, do not top it off. And I am following what they're saying, and right now, I just checked my oil, and I have only driven it for 468 miles since I had gotten it changed on October 22nd of this year, and it's showing about a 1/2 quart low at the dipstick already. But if it gets too low before the 900 miles, I would take it to Hyundai so as not to cause any damage to the engine driving it with the oil too low if it gets to that point. The service tech did state that the first step in correcting the issue was to do a combustion flush. And I hope that Hyundai is taking care of the issue for us consumers. I appreciate your prompt response regarding this matter. Thank you. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I'm the second owner of this vehicle, I purchased it when it was one year old. I've provided careful maintenance, as this is my only vehicle. In the last year+ it started burning more and more oil. I was told by a mechanic that there were no signs of leakage and that these engines tend to burn a lot of oil so I was very careful to monitor levels and up the oil changes. 6 months ago, it was in the shop for new brakes and had a complete diagnostic exam and there were no issues with the engine. Two weeks ago, before a road trip, I again had full diagnostics done on the vehicle and there were no codes that popped up. The vehicle died on my trip. Reading the codes, I received my first code regarding problems with my cylinders after the vehicle died. Now I need a completely new engine because cylinders 1 and 3 failed. The car only has 80,000 miles on it. In all my years of my family owning different vehicles, I've always owned vehicles until they were well over 100,000 miles. The only two vehicles owned by my family that ever needed engine replacement early in their lives were both Hyundai vehicles. After I was told that I needed a new engine at 80,000 miles, I was told that this was not due to the one specific problem Hyundai would cover so I have to pay to replace it myself. There are a plethora of forums, mechanic experiences, etc, that show these 2.4L engines have this exact problem, but Hyundai washes their hands of us. As a second owner, I don't qualify for the engine warranty, which was extended to 120,000 because Hyundai knows these engines are horrible. My warranty ended when the car was 5 years old, and had 60,000 miles. And up until last week, I've never had an engine code pop up in diagnosis so I have no idea how I was supposed to predict premature engine failure and remedy it within that time frame. It's just another hit against anyone who can't afford to buy a brand new vehicle.

In 2023, I purchased this car in December. I didn' t know this car would have such known problems. In over a year and a half, the spark plugs have been changed 5 times. After each oul change within 2 weeks, not a month, I constantly have to add oil to the car. In the colder months, I have to wait at leasr 15min. before the car would even start. Would someone help me with these problems? I am [XXX]. I know recalls were placed on cars with similar problems. Plus smoke, I can't remember black or white comes out the tailpipe. The date you see, was the lasted date listed to add more oil. PLEASE HELP ME... INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I pulled into my driveway, put car in park, left the car running to leave the ac for a minute, my granddaughter was in the backseat. I got out of the car , let my granddaughter out , i then was standing outside of the drivers side, reached in , turned off the car, removed the keys and it started rolling. I couldn't get out of the way and fell , car ran over right leg. Was taken to hospital for evaluation and treatment. I haven't taken the car in for evaluation by dealer , insurance or other auto specialist

I was driving down the road when the check engine light began to flash. The vehicle started to decelerate and began to sputter. This was a serious safety issue as there were vehicles behind me which put myself and other drivers at risk. I was able to pull over on the side of the road. I cut the vehicle off and waited a few minutes. I cut the vehicle back on and the check engine light was still blinking. I was able to drive the vehicle back to my home but was not able to go over 40 mph and had to repeatedly pull over to ensure my safety. Diagnostic of the vehicle indicated a code P1326. The vehicle was taken to a local Hyundai Dealership to get a second diagnostic. This was truly terrifying for me. I’m glad I didn’t have my son in the car with me at this time. Also done research and it states that the P1326 code in Hyundai Santa Fe sport vehicles, particularly those with 2.0L turbo and 2.4L engines, is linked to a recall concerning connecting rod bearing wear and potential engine failure. This issue is addressed through a recall or a product improvement campaign, which may involve engine replacement or software updates. The knock sensor detection system (KSDS), associated with code P1326, is designed to detect excessive bearing wear and activate engine protection mode. My Hyundai only has 82000 miles on it. So I’m writing this to let you know that this is a big safety issue and needs to be addressed and fixed on my Hyundai.

I experienced unintentional acceleration twice. Today, the second incident happened while slowly pulling into a handicap parking space. The car accelerated and went over the concrete parking block and knocked down the wooden pole with the handicap sign. I was fortunate that no person nor car was in the vehicle's path and I and my passenger were not hurt. I will be taking the car to the dealer service department as soon as possible. I am afraid to drive this vehicle anywhere now. This incident happened with no warning.

I have been experiencing issues with oil consumption, having to get oil changes every 2 months and sometimes monthly with no reported leaks from 2 different mechanics. I have been very high maintenance over my oil. While I was driving on the highway, my vehicle began to shake and a knocking sound was heard. I felt the vehicle begin to jerk but no warning lights were on. I was no longer able to drive and had to pull over and wait for a tow to my mechanic's garage. The mechanic let me know there was an issue with the engine, specifically the 3rd cylinder and the piston. It does not put out as much pressure as it is supposed to. I brought the vehicle to the dealership after and they confirmed this was an issue and quoted me $8700 in repairs. There were no warning lights and no engine lights prior to this happening. I was informed by my mechanic that this is a known issue with Hyundai in their 2018 models having failing engines. I purchased the vehicle certified pre-owned with a guarantee from the dealership that I was purchasing a reliable vehicle that should have no issues of this degree.

In May while driving on the highway my car suddenly wouldnt accelerate and started jerking. It would go past 60-65 and the engine light was on. Took it to get repaired and they stated the whole engine needed to be replaced. Never once had an issue with my car until then. Of course we got the runaround went it came to the warranty. After repairs I notice my car does not run the same and that its slow to accelerate. Fast forward about a month later the starter goes bad in the car and now its completely unoperable.

My vehicle is burning through oil. I am getting the oil change for the highest amount of mileage, usually driving sparingly throughout the week, and still having to get oil added in between oil changes. I have been told by the company completing oil changes that because of the gdi motor I will need to routinely check my oil, even if there is no oil light on.

June 21, 2024. During travel at high speed (70mph) on NYS Thruway, engine began making loud noise. sounded like something was loose and flapping. WITHOUT WARNING- no instrument warning lights came on, engine seized and power stopped. At no time during my drive did I observe any instrument warning lights. I was able to get over to the side of the road. The temperature gauge remained unchanged. I was concerned about fire in the engine and got as far away from the car as possible. I was 200 miles into my 300 mile journey. After waiting over an hour to have my car towed to the dealer, I was told that there were 3 Hyundai's with similar issues the week before and that the car would likely need an engine replacement due to "excessive oil consumption". This issue is a safety risk as it could have resulted in catastrophic engine fire, as well as safety issues on the Thruway with other cars and lots of traffic. Engines are backordered. Dealer did a full inspection and submitted paperwork on June 28, 2024 to Hyundai for a decision on whether this is covered under warranty. I was told we would have an answer within a few hours. Have been assigned a "liason" with Hyundai and have been in regular contact. However, Hyundai has asked for an additonal time in order to make a decision. No word as of July 11, 2024.

In May, my vehicle began having issues with acceleration and was choking when going uphill, or would start choking when slowing to turn or start moving after being stopped. The engine light came on and had code P1326. Dealership did a system update and it went away. The car broke down not long after, wouldn't start. Replaced battery as it wouldn't charge and was drained. Still didn't work. Towed it to dealership. After several days, they said it might be the crankshaft position sensor. A local mechanic replaced it, it did not fix it. Spark plugs were completely burnt up and covered in gas. Changed spark plugs and it seemed fixed, until it broke down last week. Has code P0420 now. Checked oil, it has absolutely no oil in it and it has only been about 3000 miles since my last oil change. It is due for an oil change, but should not be completely out of oil. Burning oil can clog cat converter, causing P0420 code. My vehicle has a theta engine, which was involved in a lawsuit and settlement, which I only learned about yesterday, and have missed the deadline to file a claim. The vehicle has lost acceleration and died while driving, posing a risk to myself and other drivers. Vehicle is unreliable and unsafe. Dealership failed to tell me anything about my spark plugs, and did not mention my vehicle having oil issues. Non-dealership mechanics have been the ones to bring the issues to my attention. Corporate Hyundai will also not help.

This engine is burning oil. Its mixing oil with gasoline in the cylinders. Its fouling spark plugs and consuming large amounts of oil with absolutely no visible oil leaks. The exhaust is black. PCV valve is clean. Engine is misfiring due to spark plug fouling. New spark plugs and coils. Multiple dealers have stated this is a KNOWN defect with this particular GDI engine but Hyundai refuses to issue a recall.

Q: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? A: Two fuel injectors on bank 2 are failing intermittently causing the engine light to flash and stay on (P0300 errors) and the car loses power.  Q: How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A: Driving to Newark airport on [XXX] the car suddenly lost power and was quickly coming to a halt. LUCKILY I was was in the middle lane and was able to get to the shoulder without incident. This also happened to my daughter when she was in WA state, driving to work on the highway (the car was serviced but the fuel injectors were not replaced - see attached receipt). Q: Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? A: Yes. An independent service center performed a injector value load test which determines the amount of blocked pressure the injector is performing under load. The values and the math show that more than 1 injector on bank 2 are failing. Q: Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? A: I had the vehicle in the Hyundai dealer but they did not do the injector load test and only wanted to replace all the coil packs and plugs. I had two other independent service facilities confirm the issue is with fault fuel injectors. Hyundai has the parts on hold and is not releasing any due to this issue. I do NOT understand how this is not a recall circumstance. I am fortunate that in both instances an accident did not occur. Q: Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? A: Yes, the engine light comes on - at first blinking, then steady. Vehicle failed an oil consumption test. Dealership acknowledges that the vehicle burns 1.5 quarts per 1 thousand miles. The dealership initially told me that Hyundai would cover a combustion cleaning. However after acknowledging my mileage, they are now refusing to provide any assistance. This is a known issue and they are not acknowledging it. The dealership instructs me to drive until the problem progresses, but according to their data there is already a problem outside of the manufacturers specifications.

Vehicle has an excessive oil intake and it is constantly blowing out the spark plugs and coil packs causing poor performance on the vehicle overall. My vehicle's VIN number was listed as a qualifier in a class action lawsuit, but the manufacturer says it is not making the noise it needs to make in order to have it checked. Was also informed I need to pull out my spark plugs and clean them regularly because of the oil buildup. This problem has caused other problems with the performance of the car the excessive oil intake has caused countless problems terrible performance of the vehicle and is attributing to other poor performance issues. This has been an ongoing problem and have only recently been told by the dealership of this instance. Even though my vehicle is one of the ones in the extended recall because it's not making the noise they like they won't do anything about it. This vehicle is still being financed and I am refusing to pay for anything until the matter is resolved. I have a case filed with the dealership I am speaking to an attorney Monday I am processing an email to my state's attorney of Missouri and have completed the better Business bureau complaints. After phone calls service dates and emails I feel that Hyundai is not doing anything to resolve this situation whatsoever and could use any assistance from you possible.

This is just a follow-up to request an Expedited Hearing regarding the Hyundai Santa Fe because the Engine Stallings, Oil Consumption (about 2 qts. every 1000 miles) Tailpipe Smoking problems are getting worse. It's becoming a Major Safety Hazard. Engine Stalling example: With both kids (girl [XXX] & boy [XXX] ) in the SUV Driving approx. 50 mph the Engine Stalled and I could not steer the SUV. I hit the curve to avoid the 50 mph oncoming traffic and a catastrophic accident. This incident (about 57,000 miles) and the subsequent 12 to 15 Stallings were reported to Hyundai and is why we are desperately requesting the Expedited Hearing. Many of the Engine Stallings were reported to Hyundai before the Hyundai original Manufacturer 60,000 mile warranty Expired in 10/21. HMA and Vandergriff Hyundai has not repaired the vehicle and is responsible for not Honoring Promises (documented) to test and repair the SUV that cause us to drive the vehicle past the 60,000 mile limited warranty. Per Hyundai Case Managers and Vandergriff Service Managers and Advisors (documented) the Engine Stallings, Oil Consumption/Tailpipe Smoking problems are caused by the manufacture defective engine. These Engine Stalling issues (from [XXX] > [XXX]) are cited in the Federal Class-Action Lawsuit Settlement (which includes our SUV) against Hyundai but Hyundai has not corrected the problem. The class-action settlement provides lifetime warranty repair of this problem. Hyundai has documented these problems via HMA’s 11 case #’s [XXX], [XXX], [XXX] , [XXX] , [XXX] , [XXX], [XXX], [XXX] , [XXX] , [XXX] & [XXX] . The forced out-of-pocket expenses (rentals, loaner cars, repairs, inconveniences etc.) caused by these issues has exceeded $32,000 to which we have not been reimbursed. Re: the Oil Consumption causing Tailpipe Smoking Problems Currently, A California Class-Action Lawsuit says that over 2 million cars in America has the Tailpipe Smoking problems thus making this issue INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

All of the bolts that hold the CVVT assembly backed out and one came completely out. It punctured a hole in my valve cover. Oil sprayed all underneath my hood and leaked out on the road. The car went into limp mode while I was driving, and had I not already pulled off the street, this would have caused a multiple vehicle accident. I had the vehicle towed to the manufacturer dealer and they confirmed the issue. The only warning lamp that came on was the check engine, and that didn't happen until i had already pulled over. Thus all happened within a matter of 10 minutes of driving.

Engine failure/ the check engine light comes on and it powers down,it has been in the garage 3 times for the same reason. I have a lifetime warranty on this motor and Hyundai will not cover it, I purchased an extended warranty and they won’t cover it either. Get told now that it is fixed for now come drive it around it might make it.or maybe it will only make it to the red light but you will have to take it to a Hyundai dealer.that we got thrown out of once because they were not submitted any paperwork . My car is burning oil. Took the car to the dealership where an oil consumption was complete, a chamber cleaning, and then another failed consumption test. Hyundai will only cover 60% of the engine replacement because I am the second owner. I think this is unacceptable, how do they think they’re only 60% responsible for selling cars like this? If I didn’t find this problem out when I did, I would have been stranded on the side of the road or I could have even burning my apartment complex to the ground. Someone has to do something about this, Hyundai is knowingly selling faulty cars and allowing the resell of these cars with no intention to ever cover the damages. My extended warranty will not cover anything because there is no cause of this problem. There is a class action against Hyundai over this that should be settled soon, meanwhile, these car dealerships are selling these used Hyundai/Kia timebombs.
Meanwhile, I’m putting a quart of oil in my car every fill up of gas, I owe 4 years on the car still, and I’m stuck. I included my email correspondence with the heartless Hyundai rep...I'm not even sure this is the right spot, I just don't want someone else to fall into this same trap as I did.

THE COMPLAINT IS IN REGARDS THE ACCELERATION FROM EITHER A ROLLING SLOW OR FROM A STOP TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC OR OPEN LANE NEXT TO YOU ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN YOU NEED ACCELERATE I'M GETTING A SEVERE LAG OR NORESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS I'VE HAD TWO OCCASIONS WHERE I NEEDED SOME QUICK ACCELERATION IN ORDER TO AVOID A BAD SITUATION AND THE CAR JUST BASICALLY DIDN'T ACCELERATE CAUSING THE OTHER DRIVERS TO HAVE TO BRAKE IN ORDER TO AVOID A NEAR COLLISION. I'VE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH THIS CAR NOW SINCE I PURCHASED IT. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD ONE OF THE SERVICE TECHS DRIVE WITH ME SAID WELL IT WAS IN THE ECO-MODE SO YOU CAN EXPECT THAT BUT I'M HERE TO TELL YOU THAT IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT WHEN YOU PUSH ON ACCELERATOR THE CAR DANGEROUSLY HESITATES AND IS GOING TO GET SOMEBODY BADLY INJURED. SO TODAY IT HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN ON NORTHBOUND I-5 IN TACOMA, WA, I WAS TRYING TO GET INTO ANOTHER LANE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC I HAD ACCELERATE QUICKLY THE CAR JUST SEVERELY HESITATED FOR 1-2 SECONDS AND DID NOTHING??. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I DROVE THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN RENTON WASHINGTON AND TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE UNTIL SOMEBODY LOOKED AT IT THAT THERE WAS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT SOMEBODY WAS GOING TO GET HURT BADLY. IT APPEARS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.. I HAVE A 2018 HYUNDAI SANTA FE ULTIMATE 2.0 ALL WHEEL DRIVE. I TRIED TESTING IT IN SPORT MODE TO SEE IF THE PERFORMANCE WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND IT DID ALSO HESITATE IN THE SPORT MODE AS WELL. WHEN YOU PUNCH THE ACCELERATOR FROM A CREEPING SPEED OR A ROLLING IN SLOW TRAFFIC AND WANTING TO ACCELERATE TO A DIFFERENT LANE OR COMING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC IS REALLY WHEN YOU NOTICE ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU.

Seems to be having ignition switch problems. Bought a new battery a couple times now thinking that was the problem but car won’t start at times. It won’t turn and won’t click and all the electrical (radio lights…) just seems to turn off as I turn the key with no sound following. I have to attempt 3 or 4 times with 3 minute breaks in between and then it will eventually turn and start. This has been happening about 2-3 times a week for about a year.

In May 2024, the vehicle's oil light came on while slightly turning the wheel or braking. When taken to a dealership, they stated that the car only had one quart of oil remaining, which was 4,000 miles after my last oil change and not due for another 1,000 miles. They stated there was excessive oil consumption and recommended the vehicle be taken to Hyundai dealer. I took the vehicle to Hyundai dealer in August 2024 because the car was making a rattling sound when accelerating from 0-40mph along with the car jerking between 30-40mph if accelerating except when only applying light pressure to the accelerator. Hyundai dealer stated there was no oil remaining in the vehicle, which was why the vehicle was shaking and rattling when accelerating. They began a claim process with Hyundai as the vehicle was under 100K warranty. After two consumption tests, it was deemed the vehicle was not consuming oil as previously thought. After the last consumption test in October 2024, the oil light began to come back on with me braking the vehicle. Hyundai dealer stated there was nothing further they could do to assist and stated I'd need to reach out to Hyundai customer care to file a report. I did this 10/18/24, and in December, Hyundai customer care told me to take the vehicle back to Hyundai dealer. Hyundai said at that time that now there was an oil leak from the oil pressure sensor, which allowed oil to pass through the entire main wiring of the engine until it reached the PCM. They said I need to replace the PCM, oil pressure switch, and engine control harness for $7,000, not covered by the warranty. Parts are also on backorder for over a year. My car's oil light continues to come on, and now the engine light is coming on while my car shakes when I reach 45mph or greater. It is deemed no longer safe to drive the vehicle, especially with my children in the car. When I checked the dipstick, it was completely out of oil, which was 1500 miles after they performed oil change.

I have been conducting regular maintenance on my vehicle, getting oil changes, on average around every 6,000 miles. I have had the car since August 2021 and have had no accidents and haven't missed an oil change. My car is a little over 100K miles and the oil light began to come on close to 90k miles. The car is also leaking oil and all the service agent could tell me is that the are burns oil at an accelerated rate. Even though the oil light was on, NONE of the service agents mentioned any issues with the oil and nothing was mentioned when I purchased the car. I still have yet to receive the report from my last oil change from 10/06/2023. Also, the ABS light came on after I got the car serviced for a recall for the brakes and potential electrical fire while the car is parked. Each time I checked for a recall, nothing was found, even though this car clearly has an issue with oil consumption, well the engine in general.

Failed oil pressure sensor which was leaking oil through the wiring harness; could have caused a fire from oil dripping on exhaust system. Oil pressure sensors should only fail electrically, not from allowing high pressure oil to leak out. Dealer states there have been some cases where the oil flowed through the wiring harness to the vehicle ECU, rendering a severe problem in controlling the vehicle. Dealer repair invoice attached. Besides the oil pressure sensor the wiring assembly had to be replaced from the oil contamination.

The passenger airbag sensor is malfunctioning and does not recognize that a passenger is in the car. The dealership advised that they don't know if the airbag would deploy if an accident occurred, which presents a risk to passengers. The airbag light stays on all the time. The dealership performed the diagnostics on the vehicle on 2/5/2025 and confirmed that the sensor was malfunctioning. They advised that the parts were on back order (88104-4Z591-VAS and 88952-4Z500). We still have not been able to obtain both parts as of 8/26/2025. We have contacted dealerships in other states who advised that they've been waiting on these parts for over a year. We are unable to fix the vehicle, and it is unsafe to drive with anyone in the passenger seat. We opened an issue with Hyundai Corporate, but did not receive any resolution. We were told that they would reimburse us for the cost of a rental when we needed to transport additional passengers. They later denied our request because 1) They claim it is not a safety-related issue, and 2) it occurred outside the state where we initially took the vehicle to the dealership since we are on a long-term work assignment and temporarily living in another state.

STEERING
7 complaints
I have noticed for the past year that my steering column feels loose. It makes a popping noise and really makes noise on rough pavement. I feel like the steering wheel is just gonna come off into my hands. It's very loose to turn and you can feel the pops within the steering wheel. I took my car to local repair shop and they told me there was a recall and that I should take to dealer. I called dealer but my Vin # is not listed within the actual recall. However I read the recall itself and that is what is happening to my Hyundai. It makes no sense that my exact Vin # would not be included in recall since I am having that problem.
Oct 30, 2023
STEERING EXHIBITS "STICTION" AFTER DRIVING FOR 20-30 MINUTES. THIS BECOMES WORSE AS SPEED IS INCREASED. SMALL MOVEMENTS OF THE WHEEL PRODUCE NO STEERING EFFECT BUT RESISTANCE IS FELT. WHEN THE RESISTANCE IS OVERCOME, THE RESULT IS SLIGHT OVER STEER. UNDER THESE CONDITIONS IT IS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE IN STRAIT LINE AS CONSTANT CORRECTIONS AND RE-CORRECTIONS ARE REQUIRED BACK AND FORTH. THE EFFECT IS THAT THE STEERING FEELS TO "FREEZE" UNTIL A MINIMUM BREAK OUT FORCE IS APPLIED, RESULTING IN AN OVERSHOOT PAST THE INTENDED POINT. IT IS SIMILARLY NECESSARY TO APPLY A POSITIVE RETURN TO CENTER FORCE TO RETURN TO STRAIT, AS THE NORMALLY PRESENT SELF CENTERING FEEL IS NOT PRESENT FOR SMALL STEERING ANGLES. THE PROBLEM CAN SOMETIMES BE DETECTED AFTER BEING AT REST FOR A FEW MOMENTS BUT IS NOT INTRUSIVE AT SLOW SPEED. HOWEVER, FROM ~40 UP IT IS VERY TIRING TO STAY IN LANE. HAVE WORKED WITH ONE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A SAS CALIBRATION WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. THEY CLAIM "CANNOT REPRODUCE" BUT SPEND MOST EFFORT TRYING TO PERSUADE ME THAT THE STEERING IS NORMAL. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE DID NOT SHOW UP UNTIL ~ 10,000 MILES WHICH INCLUDED LONG ROAD TRIPS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH NO ISSUES. HAVE REFERRED ISSUE TO HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS WHO HAVE ASKED ME TO WORK WITH ANOTHER DEALER - CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A CALL BACK.

THIS PAST SATURDAY I HAD TAKEN MY CAR INTO RICK CASE HYUNDAI IN PLANTATION FL TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP INSPECT MY CAR FOR THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY RECALL. THEY GAVE ME THE CAR BACK AND SAID THAT THE LOT NUMBER OF MY ASSEMBLY WAS NOT ON HYUNDAI'S RECALL. TWO DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING, I STARTED TO NOTICE THE WHEEL BECAME VERY LOOSE. ALMOST TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS CONCERNED IT WOULD FALL OFF. I HAD MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR ALONG WITH MY WIFE FOR A WEEK TRIP DOWN TO THE FL ALETA. I DECIDED THE CAR FOR UNSAFE AND BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALER. UPON INSPECTION AFTER THEY PULLED THE AIRBAG OFF, THE WHOLE STEERING ASSEMBLED WAS CRACKED OFF. I HAVE DOCUMENTED WITH PICTURES. I BELIEVE HYUNDAI USA MUST EXPAND THEIR RECALL PART TO INCLUDE MORE LOT NUMBER ASSEMBLIES AS MY DEALER CLAIMS THEY DID NOT DISASSEMBLE THIS PIECE IN ORDER TO INSPECT. THEY CLAIM ALL LOT NUMBERS ENDING IN 9 ARE DEFECTIVE WHILE MINE WAS AN 8. MY FAMILY AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR BADLY INJURED IF THE WHEEL HAD FULLY DETACHED WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ARE THE DEALER CONFIRMED MY STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY WAS FINE.

I am writing to formally request your review and potential intervention regarding a serious and potentially widespread mechanical issue involving Hyundai vehicles, along with the manufacturer’s refusal to honor their well-advertised 100,000-mile powertrain warranty for subsequent (non-original) owners. I am the current owner of a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe (VIN: [XXX] ) that is experiencing a Continuous Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) system failure, which has led to a critical engine malfunction. The estimated cost of repairs exceeds $7,000, an unexpected and significant financial burden. Despite the vehicle being well within the 100,000-mile threshold, Hyundai has denied warranty coverage solely on the grounds that I am not the original owner. This policy effectively strips coverage from second-hand buyers and, in my view, is misleading given Hyundai’s extensive advertising of the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. It creates a false sense of long-term reliability and warranty protection. This is not an isolated case. Numerous complaints have surfaced from Hyundai owners experiencing similar catastrophic engine and powertrain failures—including CVVT malfunctions, rod bearing issues, and engine seizure—raising serious questions about: The safety and reliability of Hyundai's engine systems; The fairness and transparency of Hyundai’s warranty terms and advertising; Potentially systemic manufacturing or design flaws impacting thousands of vehicles on U.S. roads. I respectfully urge the NTSB to review whether such defects present broader safety implications and to assess whether Hyundai’s current warranty practices reflect responsible corporate and consumer protection standards. Please let me know if additional information is required, including repair estimates, maintenance records, or correspondence with Hyundai representatives. I appreciate your time and attention to this matter that is affecting many vehicle owners beyond my individual case. We took our 2018 Santa Fe in for service because the check engine light came on and we lost power when accelerating. We were told that it has "catastrophic engine failure" and that we need a full engine replacement. On a less than 5 year old car. We are being blamed for this although we have kept up with regular oil changes and service. We were told that we could not get any warranty on the engine. We have been quoted $7,500 for an engine "replacement" and a 1 year warranty. They do not make the engine any longer so it is not even a true replacement. We brought it in to Hyundai of Metairie. They will not answer or return our calls. Do not buy a hyundai.

As you can see from the attached Recall Repair Invoice the item was repaired on 6/20/22. My problem is the ABS light and the other problems associated with the repair have come on after 1 month and has stayed on all of this time. I called the dealer to see if the RECALL was a problem and they said the speed sensor in the wheel hub was the problem and may have to replace sensor or the entire hub depending on type of unit with a cost of $300.00 plus or the entire hub unit for $600.00 plus. It appears that the RECALL caused the other problem to make money for the dealer and Hyundai. The problem of bad speed sensor is also in other vehicles and is not unique to Hyundia. A friend with a Kia Sportage had the same problem 2 days after the ABS unit was installed, he had the unit replaced not think it was related to ABS RECALL, he and others I have talked with have had the same problem in a short time after replacement of ABS repair was made. I don't know if this is a safety problem but extension of the ABS RECALL and causing a problem to benefit dealers.

Early 2020, I had multiple reports that my driver side brake light was not functioning properly/off when I brake. I replaced the brake light bulb in summer 2020. Not long thereafter, I heard the same complaint from other drivers who noticed and were able to notify me while at a stop. I had it checked at a local oil change shop and they found nothing wrong. This year, I was told at separate times that it was not turning on. A couple of days ago, I had someone I knew report that the night brake lights function but when I brake, the driver side light is off. It could be an internal wiring issue or something else I can't reach. Either way, it is a brand new car I bought and should not experience issues this early. The earliest they can get my car into the dealership service department is November 16, 2021.

PURCHASED VEHICLE IN JUNE 2018 AND NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH HEADLIGHTS, SHADOW ON ROADWAY WHEN DRIVING. I NOTICED IN HOUSING THAT THERE WERE FINGER PRINTS ON LENSES AND TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER FOR REMEDY...THEY REPLACED HEADLIGHT ON DRIVER'S SIDE. DID NOT THINK ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT UNTIL I DROVE THE VEHICLE DURING DARKNESS. SHADOWS WERE OBSERVED ON SIDE OF ROAD THAT COULD AND DID HIDE BIKERS/WALKERS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE LIGHTS WHILE PARKED, I NOTICED THAT THESE SHADOWS WERE ALSO OBSERVED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE ALSO NOTICED HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS ON BOTH SIDES OF VEHICLE. I CONTACTED DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS MADE THAT WAY DURING MANUFACTURING. AS TIME PASSED, ANYTIME THAT I TOOK VEHICLE OUT DURING NIGHT TIME HOURS, WHETHER ON THE HIGHWAY, INTERSTATE, OR COUNTRY ROAD, THESE DARK SPOTS WERE ALWAYS VISIBLE AND CONTINUE TO PREVENT ME AS A DRIVER FROM SEEING THE ROADWAY IN ITS ENTIRETY. A PHOTO IS ATTACHED THAT WAS TAKEN TODAY, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED AND HAVE MET WITH NO SOLUTION BEING OFFERED BY THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER. High pressure fuel pump leaking gas into engine oil
Jul 18, 2025
Upon acceleration from a stopped or rolling stop the vehicle hesitates to propel causing a dangerous situation when entering traffic. Dealer claims its not bad and that the manufacturer is only going to suggest fuel injector cleaner. Fuel injector clener was tried with no improvement. Upon research i have found this to be a common problem with this model. This is not the first problem we have had related to this system. Programming has been adjusted in the past to fix another problem which tells me this could be a computer problem.

The check engine light has gone on three times in the last 18 months. Vehicle has 62,000 miles on it. The first 2 times the issue was with the fuel injectors. All 4 injectors were replaced the first time about 31,000 miles on car and the 2nd time needed to cleaned manifold and reset injectors. today's issue was malfunctioning high pressure fuel pump that leaked into the crank case. The codes for the two most recent repairs are available at Lia Huyndai 645 central ave albany ny. All 3 cases have been confirmed by dealer (Fucillo or Lia). There is one common theme "fuel" involved in all of the warning light problem/code. I have also have a case opened in customer affairs with Hyundai Case #21254176

SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF STALLING WHEN MAKING TURNS FROM STOPS OR YIELDS WITH SLOW ACCELERATION. INTERMITTENT INCIDENTS, THOUGH SEEM TO BE MORE NOTICEABLE WITH A/C RUNNING. MY HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT, 2018, AWD, DOES HAVE APPROXIMATELY 12,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN PULLING ONTO THE BUSY HIGHWAY NEAR WHERE WE LIVE, A LEFT TURN WITH PROMPT ACCELERATION IS CRITICAL. ON ABOUT 6 INCIDENTS, INCLUDING 2 IN THE LAST WEEK, I HAVE STARTED THE TURN, THEN LOST ACCELERATION, PUT THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR THEN IT WOULD HESITATE FOR ANOTHER 1-2 SECONDS, THEN JERK UP TO 7000RPM AND THE TRACTION CONTROL WOULD KICK IN (LIGHT ON DASH COMES ON), THEN TAKES OFF QUICKLY. THUS FAR, NO ONE HAS BEEN IN HARMS WAY, HOWEVER, I FEAR IT WILL HAPPEN. ON 7/12/2018 I DID TAKE TO KC SUMMERS HYUNDAI IN MATTOON, IL. The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that while driving to the residence at a moderate speed, the oil warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The following day, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that there was no oil in the engine even though an oil change had been performed a month earlier. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, where an oil change was performed. After the oil change, the contact stated there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine while driving at various speeds. The contact then stated that while at a stop light, the engine seized while depressing the accelerator pedal, with several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the crankshaft rod was defective. The dealer linked the failure to Hyundai recall 953; however, the contact was later informed that since the vehicle was not serviced for a prior knock sensor recall, the vehicle no longer qualified for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure, and the contact was provided a case number. THE DRIVER'S SEAT APPEARS TO BE SET TOO LOW AT THE BACK OF THE SEAT. THE SIDES OF WINGS OF THE BUCKET SEAT ARE TOO HIGH NEAR THE REAR OF THE SEAT. DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN IT CAUSES THE DRIVER TO POSITION THEMSELVES AWAY FROM THE LEFT SIDE WING EITHER FORWARD OR FORWARD AND TOWARDS THE CENTER CONSOLE. I WORRY THAT DUE TO THE POOR SEAT DESIGN SITTING PROPERLY POSITIONED WITHIN THE SEAT IS NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT SIT COMFORTABLY. IT APPEARS ONLINE THAT MANY COMPLAIN ABOUT THE DRIVER'S SEAT. DURING AN ACCIDENT I BELIEVE GREATER PERSONAL BODILY INJURY COULD OCCUR TO A DRIVER BECAUSE OF THE POOR SEAT DESIGN AND NOT BEING PROPERLY SEATED IN THE SEAT. I HAVE RIDDEN IN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT AND IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. IT MIGHT BE THE OUTER PLASTIC SHROUD ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT THAT CAUSES THE IMPROPER SEATING WITHIN THE VEHICLE. I have an extended warranty TXXI and TXXC. Oil consumption leaks into the pistons and rod bearings and will cause a knocking in the engine. The oil is already in spark plugs and pcv valve which i replaced. But it will continue to keep happen over and over. I don't want my engine to catch on fire with me in it or at all that's why i am proactive in getting this solved now its already a problem. I contacted Wilson Hyundai dealership they did an 2 month oil consumption test Oil change i had to drive it for 1000 miles It failed. Then they did combuster chamber cleaning i had to drive it for another 1000 miles it failed again. So they submitted claim to corporate that i needed an engine. Corporate declined saying i was over my miles they had the wrong mileage it was a way just to deny me but dealership had correct miles so they could not follow through with that lie. So Corporate made Dealership send another claim in this time corporate denied it saying i was over my warranty. No i was not i started this at 98, 867 miles When 2.5quarts had to be added. I also had to wait a week to get into Wilson dealership because they were backed up in appointments i was at 100,212 miles and so where other Hyundia dealerships others were 1-2 months out in appointments. I had to be in a rental car for 2 months had to pay for it and still pay car note paid for oil testing which i was told i would be reimbursed for repairs and car rentals but they did not honor it nor did they pay goodwill pay for all of my inconvenience 2 month long testing and it failed and they still denied/ lied

April 17th 2023 my cars decelerate, wouldn't accelerate above 60 mph and would randomly decelerate as low as 15mph. The check engine lightvwas constantly flashing and the rmp wouldn't go above 2. I called motorworld and Hyundai. Motorworld said I needed a knock sensor replacement. They replaced the knock sensor. I called Hyundai again to see if I could be reimbursed. They said no. Hyundai then told me that because I paid to replaced the knock sensor my engine was now covered for life. A I ri 14th 2023 the exact same thing happened to my car again. I had it towed to motorworld. A week later I was told that they recommended an $800 oil consumption test because they said the oil was very low. I told them that my oil light never came on. The car was failing. I told the that I just had an oil change and that I thought the prior mechanic cheated me out of oil because my oil light came on 2 weeks after getting an oil change. This whole week I've been going back and forth with Hyundai re: this problem with is noted on websites. I was told that there is nothing they can do. I asked them to replace the motor. This is an engine problem and the engine is covered under power transmission and because I paid to replace the knock sensor. However it is not the knock sensor. The car did what it was supposed to do if tge engine is in danger of failing. So why did the charge me $583 for the knock sensor replacement and now they want me to pay $800 for an oil consumption test. It's obvious that the vehicle is consumption oil. There are no oil leaks. I spoke with Hyundai again yesterday. I told her that Hyundai needs to replace the engine and I feel that they stalling and putting me in danger. If this happens again I'm in danger, especially on the highway. Motorworld called to confirm that I was told on several occasions that because I paid for a knock sensor my engine is under warranty for life. Motorworld tod her that it's not. This occurred in April and again 5/14/23

2018 Santa Fe Sport had been leaking a few little oil spots in my garage . First noticed the problem at about 80k miles. Took it for an oil change and the technician told us he had a lot of complaints on this model vehicle. Fast forward a few months at our next oill change (3 thousand miles later) and the technician told us we were almost completely out of oil. We took the vehicle to the Hyundai dealership and we were told there was nothing wrong, no oil leaks detected. We were then having to bring the vehicle in to the oil change place in between regularly scheduled oil changes and top off the oil (sometimes taking 3-4 quarts in between oil changes). Coming home from the ballpark a few weeks ago we exited the freeway and the vehicle started shaking and losing power and the check engine light came on. I coasted in to the gas station and checked the oil and the dipstick was bone dry (except for the oil that looked like it had burned to the dipstick). I bought / put in 2 quarts of oil and limped the vehicle home. Took the vehicle to the local Hyundai dealership and now we are being told we need a new 10k dollar engine and now that the vehicle has almost 120k miles it is no longer under warranty. Everyone I have talked to about the issue says this is a common thing for this make / model and that the engines need to be replaced. How is there not a recap for this? Any advise / assistance would be appreciated

While driving in the Highway, my car lost engine power and lead to my car run no more than 40 miles per hour, after this I took my car to the garage and the said it was the knock sensor that course this issue. After being in the garage, my car knock sensor was replace for a new one to make sure this was giving good reads and while driving in a two way street it happen again and I believe this could be very dangerous if it happen while passing another car on in a crossway. Yes. Yes. As soon it happen the check engine light started blinking. It happens 3 times end of Nov 2023, early December and late December 2023.

I had no warning lights or messages and then the engine threw a rod and my car just died on the side of the road. It had apparently been burning oil. I get it back after 2 months and it needs a battery. Now the check engine light is on and it has affected the catalytic converter.

In may july of 2023 a bubble in the paint came up about size of a large egg. It has since gotten larger every week and broke open leaving exposed metal and paint falls off while driving hitting windshield I reported to Hyundai motor company but as soon as they could get me in at a dealer mid October. I have pictures from the beginning of the bubble until now showing how it looked when it started and how much worse it’s been getting every week

paint peeling from roof of vehicle
Aug 14, 2023
The 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport's body coating is clearly a hazardous manufacturer defect. The paint warranty for this and other models and model years was extended to 5 years late last year, but did not provide us with any safeguard. As a warranty, correction of the defect would only be approved by Hyundai if there was an observed problem. Within weeks of the end of the vehicle's 5-year warranty period, the pearl white paint suddenly started bubbling on the front hood in June 2023. Within a month, the bubbling and peeling had extended along the entire width of the hood as the deterioration accelerated with wind impact during each drive and water impact during frequent Florida downpours. The white paint separated cleanly from the base coating, clearly indicating poor paint material and/or factory application (i.e., failure of coating layers to adequately bind). The situation had degraded to making further driving hazardous, as moving at speeds above 35 - 40 mph caused additional peeling and flaking, which caused distractive flagging of loosened patches followed by tearing of large and small pieces of paint. The former would suddenly detach and "fly" towards and past the windshield, while the latter separated from the hood in streams that resembled snowflakes. These seriously distracted the driver, and presumably nearby motorists as well, putting all at risk. Fortunately, this has not resulted in an accident. We're aware that Hyundai is responsible for this road hazard, but cannot rely on a timely recall to remedy the matter. So, at the end of July, we had the vehicle stripped to expose the metal, and reapply coatings the way they should have been at the factory. This of course was done at significant personal cost. So far, this has played out very unfavorably in terms of the public perception of the lack of accountability for this manufacturing defect by Hyundai and the NHTSA, both of whom have been keenly aware of this years-long, on-going risk to U.S. motorists.

Hyundai levels 1 and level 2 made promises to do fire hazard recall plus fix other warranty issues while still under warranty. they agreed to do all at same time under warranty. now they walk away from the fire hazard recall, reneged on other repairs and sent to Hyundai Escondido which demanded payment in advance for warranty work. The car is nice but have lost confidence in vehicle due to constant reminders to dont drive often and do not park in garage. We have been in fear for over a year and they do nothing. Now they say I have to file a legal case for lemon law and pay the expenses. They promised loaner or rental plus any out of pocket but it was all a lie. They promised to find another repair dealer and again, lied. always saying "we're having difficulty contacting the dealer" then go dark.

The oil pressure switch has a faulty seal causing oil to leak out onto the engine block. This causes oil on the underbody and ground, smoke amd smell from oil on got surfaces, knocking noises from the engine, reduced power or hesitation, illumination or the check engine light and oil pressure light, high speed stall, and will also cause fire in the engine compartment resulting in death or sever injury. I have taken my car to the Red McCombs Hyundai dealership in San Antonio TX for repair and they have confirmed that it is the oil pressure switch seal that failed. The oil leak has also damaged electrical components causing a malfunction in the dash cluster and steering wheel control.

While driving my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport in freeway traffic, I felt the vehicle begin to heavily vibrate and the engine was jerking severely. The speed began to slowly descend. I was unable to control this. I was in a one-lane overpass, with no safe place, room, or lane to pull over. I felt hopeless and fearful for my life. I was literally drifting, praying the vehicle would be able to handle the descent upward. As the speed declined, the vibrations became more pronounced. No dash lights were illuminated. Other drivers behind me were approaching rapidly at the speed limit and slamming on their brakes and hazard lights in an attempt to notify drivers further back. I managed to maneuver over to approximately 24 inches of a faux shoulder on the right of [XXX] . Cars hurled past mine within inches of my vehicle. I knew I needed to get out of the car and crawled over to the passenger side. Again, I was trapped. Several HPD units were dispatched to literally shut down the freeway to enable a tow truck driver to safely hook up my SUV. I had it towed to my mechanic and he did a diagnostic indicating a compression issue. He ordered new spark plus and 4 new coils. Upon further investigation he discovered that Cylinder 4 was not holding compression and he informed me that the engine had failed. I then had it towed to the local Hyundai dealer. At check in, I was informed that there would be a $700 diagnostic/tear apart fee to discover what repairs were needed. I informed them exactly what was needed and I expected a new engine. The Hyundai mechanic dismantled the engine and took pictures, ran a few tests. He submitted the results to Hyundai for approval. The engineer at Hyundai denied a new engine claiming "the head coil is not part of the recall". I was told for $2500, Hyundai would "refab" my damaged head to control the leaks. If that repair didn't address the issue, I was sure to get a new engine. A financial and physical risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The acceleration of the vehicle from a stop. Whether from a stop sign, stop light, even sometimes after slowing down after a turn. It hesitates while the gas pedal is still being applied. Causing the vehicle to slow and other vehicles are forced to brake. The engine does not rev and the tachometer does not move. There are no warnings lights or vehicle notifications. After several attempts to bring it to the dealership, they are never able to replicate the issue. The OBD scans show no issues. It has never been a constant problem, however it remains as a "hit or miss" issue. Could be days of no problems and then popping back up every stop.

Within the last few weeks my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport SUV has been experiencing few noticeable issues. 1st my vehicle doesn’t want to start when I turn the key, I have to open the door close it then try again and it will turn over to start. 2nd recently driving on the highway my vehicle slowed all the way down and started jerking like it wanted to cut off. I would push my accelerator down as far as possible and it will still go slow and not speed up.3rd my vehicle is making a throttle/knocking noise and a blinking check engine light is on as well.

My car Engine stopped working while I was driving to work. Middle of traffic was not safe and the safety of others was effected because my car was unable to move, it was a high risk dangerous situation. Problem was reported to mechanic as well as insurance company (geico) car was pushed by strangers into a nearby parking lot, which then I waited for a towing truck. The car was inspected by a mechanic who then told me to have it inspected by Hyundai and Hyundai has told me due to lack of maintenance my car stopped working and there is nothing they can do. I am insulted by the lack of concern Hyundai has had for what they have put me and my livelihood through. I am aware of the recall on these vehicles. Engine :2.4L I4 DGI DOHC 16V. The Engine light came on I had it diagnosed immediately…I was told my cam shaft and knock sensors needed replacement, they were replaced. Engine light goes off for 24 hours until it comes back on and once it came back on my car couldn’t go over a certain speed , and it died in the middle of traffic.

I have taken my car to the dealership now 3 times for the same recall issue. This time, they are telling me Hyundai will not repair my car on their end because of "sludge buildup" to which i was not aware. I submitted all records of maintenance and they are refusing to fix my vehicle. I now have an inoperable, because not safe, vehicle that is legally required to be fixed by Hyundai for it's recall, but is not being fixed. Recall 237 If I were to try to drive the vehicle, it could put lives at risk. It will not accelerate quickly, could go up in flames, and does not go the speed limit on highways which are required for me to get home and to work. The recall was confirmed by the dealer as the check engine light flashed and caused a certain code to pop up for maintenance. The solution would be for Hyundai to fix the car, but they are refusing and saying the whole engine needs to be replaced now even though there's nothing wrong with the engine.

The day after I purchased this 2018 Used Hyundai Santa Fe, the passenger air bag light came on. July 2024. I have been working with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle (Larry H Miller Chevrolet, in Murray Utah), and calling Hyundai Corporation for months. Hyundai called me every 3 days for almost 3 months with a customer update and they would say is "We have no updates". This is extremely frustrating. The main idea Hyundai Corporate office is telling me is that they don't have a contract with someone that would provide the vehicle part to fix this issue. They don't have a car part available in existence to fix this issue. This is a huge safety concern. I asked them "does that mean my passenger airbag could randomly go off while I'm driving down the road, or does this mean that my passenger airbag won't go off in case I got in a wreck?" They said that it could mean a number of things, but at this time, do not put anyone in the front seat of my car. The car part is a passenger airbag plate sensor that is underneath the passenger seat. Hyundai said there are no after market parts that are sufficient enough to put into the vehicle. Especially with it being a safety issue. How can this be on the consumer??? This is very crippling. This is a huge safety concern with no timeline for resolve. I am very mad. I have been fighting this for 9 months now.

There has been an ongoing issue with oil consumption and engine failure with my car. The engine didnt give any indication of running hot on the dashboard. It just shut off while driving. I've been to the dealer a few times with no help. On 8/4/2024 my car cut off in the middle of traffic with my daughter in the car twice. It took 3 hours to cool off in 90 + degrees heat. Oil wasn't in the spark plugs but they keep getting shorted out. Oil burns and the engine stalls. I have to replace it which I did but my car shut down. We could've been in a bad accident because it wouldn't drive off immediately. We were stranded on a 2 way country road. This is all horrible because again, we could've been involved in a bad accident on the road we were on. After 5 1/2 hours it finally started and 2 people had to trail me home.

First ABS, I was going to fix that but all attention to me is engine light then found out it is High pressure fuel pump then burning oil that I smelled something isn't right. I feel it's not safe to drive and I spoke to mechanic, He told me take it back to dealership that they gave me a lemon Hyundai.. I talked to the dealership mechanic shop and never tell me anything how much for high pressure fuel pump? SO I already saw my SUV problem and I decided to check website for Hyundai recalled, that what I had right now.. It's only 6 years old and only 90,000 mileages on that SUV. On January 30th 2023 we made an appointment to take our 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport to our local dealership in Newmarket Ontario Canada due to a clunking in the front end of the vehicle. On inspection our 2018 Santa Fe Sport was identified as having a BROKEN COIL SPRING on the driver side. Along with this inspection it was also noted the passenger strut/shock had been leaking and was out of fluid. The Newmarket Hyundai Dealership considered this to be an emergency repair. This was determined because the coil and or both coils could totally break and puncture the front tires. This information I obtained from the Hyundai recall 167!!! Although according to the recall seemed to be only in America we truly believe our 2018 Santa Fe Sport in Canada falls into the same category of the Hyundai recall 167. It has cost us a considerable amount of money as I personally am on a Disability Government Pension as well as my wife is also on a fixed Income Retirement Pension. As for our last 3 Brand New Purchases have been nothing but Hyundai Vehicles for their reliability Safety and long lasting enjoyment!!!! That being said we are a little disappointed that this front end Coil Spring Shock/Strut issue has now made us scared of what Could have happened because of this defect that does not seem to apply at the moment in Canada. We were certainly hoping to purchase at least 1 more Hyundai SUV Product or a Hyundai vehicle with continued Reliability Safety and Always a Pleasure to Drive Product. Unfortunately this occurence has caused us a considerable amount of doubt now as we were truly scared for our lives after the issue was diagnosed by the Hyundai Dealership. My wife and I would truly like to continue to believe in the Hyundai Product of Vehicles but are now extremely concerned about Reliability and Safety at this point. According to the diagnosis there could have been a CATASTROPHIC INCIDENT!!!

I was driving at 45 miles per hour which is the speed limit in the area. It was very alarming when the sunroof glass shattered, I was nervous and thought that someone threw a rock at the car. I wasn't sure whether to stop the car or keep on driving. Thank GOD there was no traffic, otherwise it would have been a very dangerous situation. I safely pulled over into a gas station to check what had happened. There was nothing other than broken glass on top of the car. The sunroof looks like it had pressure from the bottom up.

Blind Spot Detection System failed without warning. No obvious indication it has failed. No warning lamps, messages appeared at any time. In operatioin, neither left nor right side provided warning of cars in blind spot and no audio alert was sounded when changing lanes with turn signal on and car in blind spot. (BSD failures - and any advanced safety system failure - should be readily made apparent with an alert or indication of some kind) This safety system can prevent many accidents. However, as more advanced systems are in automobiles and used, the drivers rely on them functioning properly. When they fail without indication - and the driver assumes it works, it can lead to accidents that might otherwise be avoided. If the driver is aware that the system is not working - extra vigilance, for instance, could be used. The car may be made available for inspection upon request. The problem will be reported to dealer on 10 October 2023 for analysis and repair. The car, as of this moment has not been inspected by others.

I was at the Tim Hortons drive-thru stopped behind a car in front of me the car in front of me started to go to the order window , as I let off the brake to start to go my suv took off full speed! I hit the brakes as hard as I could and the car kept moving forward like the throttle was stuck at full acceleration. I wasn't even hitting the gas pedal, after my vehicle struck the car and continued to smash into the car while I was holding a brake I put it in neutral and then the car finally came to a stop. I had 5 children in the car. And I am seeing this being an issue in alot of hyandai vehicles. And alot of complaint with this same issue. If this would have happened on the hiway it could have possibly killed or Injured someone. I am scared to death to drive the vehicle again.

This will be the fourth time our vehicle has to go to the dealer. We purchased this car in April of this year and the car has lived more at the dealer service department than with us. The first time, the car started smoking and left us stranded. The dealer changed out the fuel injectors. When it randomly started smoking it smelled strongly of gas and we were scared that the car would catch fire. The other times were due to the car not accelerating as it should on the highway making it quite difficult to merge and speed up as needed on the highway. This time, it's the same thing. The car does not want to shift gears and it's very dangerous when you are trying to accelerate to get to the right speed and you have cars coming in close from behind and there is no way to signal to them that the car is having trouble shifting. This problem started again yesterday. The check engine light turned on yesterday as well and we took the car to Autozone to scan it. the only code that came up was abs. The car just got towed to the dealer yet again but I have lost hope that they will be able to fix the issue as they have failed 3 times already. (one of these times the dealer failed to refill my radiator coolant after the flushed it causing the car to overheat as well and the car ac malfunctioned as well as a result.

DRIVING A RENTAL CAR AT 4:30 A.M. ON COUNTRY ROAD ATTEMPTING TO CATCH OUR FLIGHT BACK HOME. AFTER DRIVING APPROX. 20 MINUTES, HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS. WE HAD NO VISIBILITY, ATTEMPTED TO STOP VEHICLE, LEFT PAVEMENT AND STRUCK A TREE. DURING OUR WEEK RENTAL OF THIS VEHICLE WE DID HAVE ISSUES WITH SUV LOSING POWER WHEN CLIMBING A HILL, BUT NOT A STEEP ONE AT ALL. SUV WOULD DROP AT LEAST 10 MPH WHEN DOING SO.
