How to read a Hyundai Santa Fe VIN — every digit explained
Every Hyundai Santa Fe carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Santa Fe.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your Santa Fe VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Driving in the far left lane on the interstate at roughly 55 mph i attempted to avoid a drifting car as i corrected the steering wheel and accelerator failed to respond. As a result i struck a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the interstate. The airbags in the other vehicle deployed. The airbags in my vehicle did not deploy. The front end collision was bad enough that the suv was declared a total loss. The adjuster also found that the firewall had split and appeared to be faulty. Due to the airbags not deploying during the collision i suffered a concussion and various other injuries as well as loss of hours at work, loss of pay, medical bills and expenses in addition to owning money on my car loan as the insurance did not cover the cost of the loan.

On Thursday, May 11, 11:45 am, I experienced a distressing incident at Moulton Elementary School in Laguna Niguel, CA, 92677. my car was parked near the school building, with the engine turned off and the gear set to park. I was there to pick up my children, and at that time, nobody was inside the vehicle. Unexpectedly, my car started moving backward as if in neutral gear, despite being in park mode. I estimate I was approximately 10 feet from the vehicle in front of the school building. The situation was alarming because numerous children were nearby, which could have resulted in a tragedy. Thankfully, no one was injured or hit by the moving vehicle. Instinctively, I attempted to stop the car by using my entire body to push against it. Unfortunately, my efforts were unsuccessful, and as a result, I sustained severe back pain. I have been on bed rest for the past five days due to the discomfort caused by the incident. Subsequently, the vehicle collided with another car, which belonged to a teacher. The incident shocked everyone, and the reason behind the car's unexpected movement remains unclear. Later, I discovered through online research that my car was actually on the recall list, but I had not been informed of this beforehand. As a result of the incident, we contacted the police, and they arrived at the scene can confirm that the car was indeed in park gear during the incident. It is vital to investigate this matter thoroughly to determine the cause of the vehicle's accidental movement and prevent future accidents. I hope that this statement provides a clear account of the accident that occurred at Moulton Elementary School. I strongly urge authorities and the involved parties to take immediate action to address the issues surrounding my car's movement and prevent any similar incidents from happening again.
I bought this vehicle and there was a complete break down malfunction due to the ABS module system! This lack of due diligence caused both myself and my 7 year old to unwillingly enter a vehicle that put our lives at risk and a near death experience that still traumatizes my daughter until this day who refuses to enter any vehicle! This is an unfortunate mistake on your end and there is no where near enough compensation that will ever withdraw the fear from my innocent child’s eyes anytime I need to drive her to school, or basketball practice, or anywhere to run our daily errands and live a normal life! I have nothing else to add except I expect compensation for a safe vehicle and compensation necessary to help my child, my innocent child to get through this fear!

While driving at freeway speed, car shut down unexpectedly, and restarted. During interim 20 seconds, attempted to pull vehicle to left shoulder as i was driving in far left lane. I felt "engine drop" or a feeling whereas the car no longer felt powered, cue that the engine had went off. Power steering went manual along with other power assist devices like power steering. On dirt shoulder of freeway attempting with manual brakes and steering to bring vehicle off roadway. Vehicle restarted during maneuver. Still moving at safe speed attempted to merge back onto the freeway, having not yet decelerated enough yet to continue to pull over....clear and dry conditions in north la county. This vehicle however has always had "overly responsive" or "very tight" steering, for lack of better terminology. I leased the vehicle and did not fully realize, until some time passed, what this 'steering characteristic' would mean in the future, in an event requiring accurate and responsive steering combined with the ability to maintain control. The sudden engine power resuming, combined with, what this writer would describe as "tight steering" to begin with, made the vehicle roll. The vehicle, with what felt like a "high center of gravity" always felt like it would roll if one were to have to move quickly to avoid something in the road for example. I did not realize this feature during my test drive. Being a lessee i was obligated to keep the vehicle for 3 years. The vehicle rolled several times while crossing 3 lanes of an occupied northbound highway 14. A sudden jolt resulted in a fracture of l1 vertebrae. During roll, jack became undone from where it was factory mounted underneath lift up cover, and had never been removed. Flailing around in the vehicle now was this heavy scissor jack bouncing around in the vehicle compartment with me. I am glad to be alive. *tr
On june 11, 2013 i was driving my 2011 hyundai santa fe. I was in a parking lot and had pulled into a parking place. I was stopped and putting my car into park. As i reach neutral my car accelerated fast...this was more then a lunge forward, it was more like a power surge. My car continued forward at a very fast speed, despite my braking ( there were skid marks) and hit a wall. I ended up with lots of massive bruising and sprained muscles. Plus i was very frightened. There was lots of damage to my car. It was towed to the dealership, where i purchased it. It is sill in their body shop. A few days after the accident i checked the internet to see if anyone else had this problem. There were lots & lots of examples of this, sudden unintended acceleration problem, with the 2011 santa fe. I don't see any responses from hyundai. This problem has to be dealt with. *tr
I backed out of a parking spot and made contact with something which i could not see from my rear view or side view mirrors. Later, when the emergency workers were loading me into the ambulance, i would see that the object was a low, cement pole, which protected a fire hydrant directly behind the parking spot i pulled out of. As i put the vehicle in gear (drive) with my foot on the brake, to pull away from whatever i backed in to, the engine revved and the vehicle accelerated on its own. The vehicle lurched forward (the best way to describe it is the way a pinball bounces off of a bumper on a pinball machine) and continued moving forward, even though my foot was still on the brake pedal. The vehicle drove forward into the parking spot i had started from, over a curb at the front of the parking spot, through a patch of low lying plants and over a wall which is approximately four to five feet in height. My vehicle was airborne and came to rest in the lower level parking lot, striking a parked vehicle. It was only then that the vehicle stopped its forward motion. My arms had been locked on the steering wheel, my right foot on the brake pedal. My left leg absorbed the impact of the crash into the lower level parking lot. I was taken away in an ambulance with a broken leg and severely dislocated ankle. The vehicle has been deemed a total loss by my insurance carrier. I was advised that a claims investigator was sent to the insurance-company-authorized collision shop to where my vehicle was towed. Even though the emergency workers advised on the night of the accident that the car was not in a drivable condition, i was advised by my insurance company that the investigator drove the vehicle in the parking lot of the collision shop and he was not able to replicate the unintended acceleration. *tr

Contact owned 2009 hyundai santa fe sport utility vehicle. At 2pm on july 7, 2017, driver experienced a sudden, uncommanded acceleration that caused a fatal crash that resulted in the death of the driver and two passengers. Manufacturer was informed about the subject incident. Hyundai is aware of a statistically significant number of unintended accelerations with this generation of vehicles. Other public voqs and private consumer complaints support the contacts allegations that the vehicle had a catastrophic failure with the electronic throttle control system. The 2009 hyundai santa fe was not equipped with available 'smart pedal' brake throttle override technology. In 2012, hyundai admitted that "with virtually all cars using electronic throttle control today, there remains the remote possibility for an unforeseen electronic throttle control malfunction, causing a vehicle to accelerate contrary to driver input. Although very unlikely due to various built-in electronic safety protocols, unforeseen circumstances could still exist that could cause this type of malfunction.' hyundai introduced `this critical safety technology' on 100 percent of its new models anticipating the government might mandate it sometime in the future. 'with hyundai's brake pedal throttle override capability, any brake pedal input by the driver, even with a runaway throttle condition, completely overrides any throttle malfunction,' stated the director of certification and compliance affairs for hyundai's american technical center, inc. (hatci), said in a statement. 'it is no longer possible to have increasing engine power once the brake pedal is depressed by the driver. This adds a reassuring, incremental safeguard of control for hyundai drivers.' per consumer affairs, 'local police agency suggests that hyundai accelerated on its own before fatal crash'. Special crash investigation.
While parking my 2023 Hyundai Sante Fe, I hard pressed the break and pushed the Park button. The engine revved up and the vehicle took off instead of going into park; smashing into a building. The parking block was 6ft from the building. The engine accelerated to a high enough speed that it totaled the vehicle completely out. The engine code readings after the vehicle was towed to a repair shop was P0112 and P0114. The mechanic says that's the initial cause of the accident. The insurance reps are supposed to be following up on the mechanics diagnostics currently. There were no warning lights or anything on before the issue occurred as this was a brand new vehicle with only 8,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while the vehicle was turned on and shifted into park, the vehicle unexpectedly rolled away with no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle then collided with a tree. The contact also stated that the air bags did not deploy during the crash. No injuries were sustained, and no medical attention was provided. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where full body repairs were completed. The vehicle was later taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and during the second incident the contact’s spouse attempted to stop the vehicle and was almost run over. No injuries were sustained, and no medical attention was provided. The contact stated that the their arms and fingers are hurting during the failure, The contact stated that the vehicle then collided with an area of the contact’s home. The contact stated their concern that there vehicle is very hazardous and very unsafe and the failure could have been worse for the contact's spouse. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
On April 13, 2026, I arrived home and parked the vehicle, engaging the traditional shifter into the "Park" position and turning off the engine. After exiting and standing on the ground to retrieve a purse from the cabin, the vehicle spontaneously and rapidly began reversing. As the vehicle gained momentum, I was struck by the driver-side door, which knocked me down and resulted in the vehicle running over me. The vehicle only stopped its rearward movement once it collided with a neighbor's parked car. Only after the vehicle began moving did the horn begin blaring, indicating a delayed rollaway alert. This incident resulted in a fractured ankle that required surgical intervention. Despite the traditional shifter being placed in "Park" and the engine being off, the vehicle failed to remain stationary, representing a catastrophic failure of the parking pawl or transmission engagement.

Park N Fly Mississauga Canada. Vehicle in parked position. Vehicle reversed from position and driven for 50-75 feet. Driver made a left turn and within two seconds the vehicle started accelerating on its own. Driver’s head and hands bounced off the steering for a brief moment and then returned. Engine could be heard revving continuously in an increasing manner. Nothing on the gas pedal nor was it manually depressed. The pedal felt stuck with no recoil like what is usually felt when ones foot is taken off the accelerator. Driver attempted to depress brakes to maximum capacity but the system would not override the acceleration and the motion the car was travelling. Car continued to pickup speed to about 70 km/hr. Attempted to slightly turn into a side lane. Cars were parked in facing each other position. Driver clipped the first vehicle, then deflected and ran into three other vehicles before becoming wedged. Passenger front tire continue to spin and burnt thread. Driver front tire intact

The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guard rail and light pole. The seatbelt did not lock and the air bags did not deploy. The contact is concerned about the safety risk since the seat belts and air bags malfunctioned when the crash occurred. The failure mileage was 154,000.
On December4th 2024 my car rolled forward into a barrier post. I stopped to get air in my tires and the Parking Allert went off as I got near the barrier post. I then parked my car. I left my car running and driver door partially opened. I dropped the valve cap between the spokes of the last tire being filled. So, I got into the car and backed up about three feet to get the cap. Parked the car got out and it rolled forward into the barrier post. I was completely out of the car but just by my driver door. I tried to get back in but it was too quick. Subsequently, I drove to work to let my supervisor know i would need time to go to the dealership. I was concerned air bags would deploy since that didnt happen. Also because the car didnt stop on its own felt the integrity of systems were questionable. So, I repeated the steps at work like the incident. Except, I stayed in the car. The car beeped and the dash said Shift to P when my door was open and placing in drive and reverse. I NEVER got any indications of such when the car hit the barrier. I found the two DTC's that showed on my Hyundai App were related to DTC U110387 and U110382. I had 99 miles on the car having purchased it with 15 miles on it. The original date of these DTCs is Aug 27th, 2024, with a last reported Aug 30, 2024. I see recalls 24V529000 and 24V246000. I don't know if they are related. but this has to be addressed. My car is at the dealership being repaired and my insurance rate will no doubt go up and the value of my car down. This isnt right.

I purchased a used 2004 hyundai santa fe in aug/2005 from a hyundai dealership (# ). In aug/2006, the airbag light came on. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and the results were "code b1382 psab resistance high - resecure connector under the passenger seat/clear code". In feb/2008, the airbag sensor again appeared. The same technical code was detected, and the dealership resolution was to "reroute wire harness". In mar/2008, the airbag light again appeared and was serviced by the dealership. In nov/2008, the vehicle was again taken to the dealership due to the airbag light appearing. At the time of service in nov/2008, the vehicle was out of warranty. The dealership indicated they would not fix the airbag free of charge under the warranty, at which time, they were informed that a complaint would be filed under the california lemon law due to repeat fixes for the same issue. The dealership then fixed the issue. On nov. 26, 2008, the vehicle was hit in a high-speed rear end collision (~35mph) while at a stop light and pushed into an intersection, where it broadsided a moving vehicle. As a result of the impacts, the hyundai was totaled, all rear seated passengers sustained injury due to the spare tire being lifted from the initial impact and raising the 60/40 split rear seat and pushing it forward, the front passenger received chest contusions and the driver of the vehicle sustained upper body injuries. Despite being pushed forward and making a strong impact, the airbags failed to deploy. I requested hyundai investigate the matter, and they determined that although the front right of the vehicle was damaged from the secondary impact, it was not sufficient to warrant airbag deployment. I researched complaints from other hyundai owners regarding repeated airbag sensor light repairs and other airbag failures, including stories of crashes into poles with failed airbags. Hyundai has not issued any recall, but they probably should. *tr
I went to a drive through car wash. Put my car in neutral and it drives your car through the wash. Once it was done I changed to drive and tapped lightly to get out. I was going to have the car wash attendant wipe down my car. As I approached him my brakes wouldn’t work and the car continued to accelerate despite not pressing down on the gas pedal. None of my electrical lights were working. It took me onto a busy street in Chicago and kept accelerating at full speed. I was trying to brake, put it into neutral or drive, use emergency brake system and nothing was working. I was swerving to avoid hitting other cars or pedestrians. I erratically drove about 1.5 blocks until I hit another SUV. All my airbags deployed. My full trauma work up was negative at the hospital. I am not sure if anyone sustained major injuries in the other car. I filed an insurance claim and my car was deemed a total loss. Insurance company thinks there was definitely an electrical shortage but did not further investigate. They said it would take more money to investigate the cause rather than paying a lump sum for car. I filed a claim case with Hyundai 2 days after the accident. The initial representative said a case manager would call within 5-7 business days and would like the car preserved in case of investigation. I have called over 5 times and have never received a call back nor an initial call from the case manager assigned. There was no active recalls out at the time and the car was serviced a month prior at a Hyundai dealership. Since the accident occurred we received a new recall that the anti-lock brake system could malfunction and cause an electrical short. But according to recall notice there is still no remedy available.
12v connector for phone charger melted my phone cord. Reported to Centennial Hyundai Las Vegas and High Desert Hyundai Kingman Az. Both service departments said my vehicle cannot detect the problem because I purchased a substandard plug-in. I have worked as an operator of high voltage electrical systems. I understand in some circumstances that a system cannot detect a fault, however the company is still responsible for the fire it caused. This is unsafe and can cause serious consequences. It must be corrected.

On 2/4/15, my 2012 santa fe had an unexpected sudden acceleration, resulting in extensive damage to the vehicle and me, the driver. I had backed into my parking space at work facing a busy road and while re-positioning vehicle, going from reverse to drive, with my foot on the brake, the car propelled forward, going through a 4 foot snow bank and into a stone wall. The driver air bag deployed and hit me direct in center chest. All of this occurred in about 2 seconds and i had my foot down hard on the brake and was attempting to put my left foot on the emergency brake. *js it was a miracle that i did not hit a pedestrian or other vehicle, which when i later processed this, was the most frightening part.. After googling this complaint, i was stunned to see how many people have had similar incidents.
Purchased vehicle brand new, the rear brake lights failed and i was rear ended @ 65 mph. Vehicle suffered $14,000 in damage with a bent frame. The value of my vehicle is now diminished drastically and it is reported in car fax report. Approximately 2 years later vehicle was recalled for faulty brake lights and the brake switch was replaced at the dealership. I should not suffer financial loss due to negligent parts that were manufactured and installed on this vehicle.

I parked my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe in a hospital parking garage on the morning of July 30, 2024. I was getting ready to leave after my doctor’s appointment. I slowly reversed my car and hit a pillar behind me. As I put the car into drive to come forward slowly, the car accelerated forward at a very fast speed. I took my foot off of the gas and kept pressing the brake pedal, but the car kept speeding forward on its own and I crashed headfirst into a concrete wall. The impact cracked the concrete barrier on the outside of the parking garage. The air bags deployed, causing fractures in my sternum and L1 vertebrae. This accident occurred near the elevators/stairs and cars were all around. IF a person had been walking in my path to get to their car, he/she would have been severely hurt or killed. I was able to frantically steer the accelerating car into a handicap parking space and crash into the concrete wall, thus avoiding other cars. If that space was not available, my car could have crashed into another car with people inside. We were just told that the car is going to be totaled. If necessary, it could be inspected before that happens. I thought that I was going to die… the car was out of control. I do not want this to happen to others with this type of car…or put others in its path at risk.
*tr

The car began shuttering while driving down a main street (45-50mph). When we pulled over we smelled gasoline and burning. The car was towed to hyundai service department. The service department informed my the fuel injectors were leaking causing a fire. The are replying the fuel injectors and told me it would be wise to have them replace all sparks plugs ($190) while they had the engine opened up.
Smelled smoke at a stop light. Continued when light turned green. Pulled over about 30 car lengths later because smoke was coming in the vents. Jumped out of car and ran. Within 2 minutes, entire front engine was completely engulfed in flames. No indicator light came on before. Car was driving perfect.
Taking a right turn into our driveway ,the vehicle hesitated then surged at a high speed and crashed into our home.brakes were being applied but could not stop the impact.believe the surge may be related to the turbo engine accelerating.
When accelerating from a dead stop or nearly a dead stop the car does not accelerate smoothly. There seems to be a pause and then it accelerates quickly, this caused a family member to hit a car in a parking lot.

On January 16,2025 I was driving my Hyundai Santa Fe on the freeway with my three children when the automatic brake system suddenly failed, causing me to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, we spun off the road, and the vehicle flipped four times, causing us multiple injuries. Additionally, due to a known recall involving the failure of the airbag deployment system, the airbags did not deploy during the crash. These combined defects caused me and my children to suffer significant injuries, including broken cervical spine. Broken thoracic spine and Broken Sternum. My daughter has a fractured spine and sternum. And both my sons have serious bruising and head trauma. Both the automatic brake system and the airbag system on this vehicle are part of existing recalls issued by Hyundai Motors. These failures directly contributed to the severity of our accident and the injuries we sustained
Vehicle stopped on incline of a hill, then reversed (gear shift in drive) back down 600 feet the hill and crashed against a concrete wall corner. Have 2 witnesses that switched off the engine, inspected wreck, found no fault codes with a launch 431-reader but figured that battery was drained after 2 months. Surviving daughter suffers from memory loss but at the time of the accident claims the brakes failed.
The contact owned a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that as his daughter was driving at 20 MPH on the highway, she depressed the brake pedal, the brakes failed to respond, and the vehicle started to smoke from the engine and into the cabin. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's daughter then tried to depress the brake pedal again, and the contact's daughter then jumped out of the vehicle on the ramp. The vehicle was coming down on the intersection unoccupied, engulfed in smoke, initially hitting a stop sign and then another unknown sign and sequentially coming to a stop. The contact then saw the vehicle at the hillside engulfed with fire and smoke and tried to break a window, however, the contact heard his daughter and stopped. The Fire Department and Police Department were on scene and extinguished the remaining of the fire and the hillside. The origin of the fire was on the engine. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was consumed by the fire and the remainder were taken to Lenzi Automotive. The contact was the only occupant in the vehicle and sustained scrapes and bruises to her elbow, finger, right thigh, buttocks, and back rib that require medical attention. The failure mileage was approximately 77,200.
I was driving down the interstate at the speed limit of 60mph, traffic slowed down then totally stopped. I was at a safe distance to stop, i began tapping on the brakes and i had no brakes. the brake pedal was hard no give in the pedal which caused me to rear end a stopped vehicle doing 60 MPH with me and my son in the vehicle. We went by ambulance to go to the emergency room. The car was declared a total loss by AAA. This happened on September 19th 2023. My safety and my son along with everyone driving on the interstate was at risk because of total brake failure. There were no warning lights present or malfunction indicator lights warnings at all. My son and I, are lucky to be alive.
Back in March my landlord lost his keys then Someone started to enter my unit illegally I filed numerous police reports to ensure safety for me and my two small children but wasn’t taken serious was forced and admitted into the hospital for trying to protect me and my children losing custody as well and my car was left parked on a city street, my house possessions were all damaged as well and I believe a rodent or someone left the windows down purposely for a rodent to gain entrance to my vehicle and living area as well, my vehicle tires kept needing repairs the interior had some kind of infestation and something was wrong with the ventilation system in the car and I didn’t feel safe driving the vehicle nor did I feel that the vehicle was worth the 413 monthly payments which I never missed payments on up until this incident. I tried to go through my car insurance company and local Hyundai dealer for a replacement of my vehicle and nothing was done to protect my safety or health also my banking information was compromised and I lost financial control and was unable to make payments for the last two months because of this I reached out to Santander consumer which is my finance company to express my concerns and they was unable to stop the repossession, I feel horribly scammed and is wondering if there is anything that can be done to stop me from further loss if anything is needed further feel free to contact me

I was at the Tim Hortons drive-thru stopped behind a car in front of me the car in front of me started to go to the order window , as I let off the brake to start to go my suv took off full speed! I hit the brakes as hard as I could and the car kept moving forward like the throttle was stuck at full acceleration. I wasn't even hitting the gas pedal, after my vehicle struck the car and continued to smash into the car while I was holding a brake I put it in neutral and then the car finally came to a stop. I had 5 children in the car. And I am seeing this being an issue in alot of hyandai vehicles. And alot of complaint with this same issue. If this would have happened on the hiway it could have possibly killed or Injured someone. I am scared to death to drive the vehicle again.

*tr
On 6/17/2018 @ approximately 5:00pm while driving my santa fe, i began to have surging power. I attempted to disengage the cruise control but could not. I would slow down only to speed right back up as if i had pushed the resume button, i had not. I attempted to shift into neutral however my geer shifter was locked into drive & i couldn't get the shifter out of drive. At times the car would start to slow down after pu mping the breaks only to have a surge of power again. As i was driving, i came up to a sharp curve & wasn't able to slow down therefore i ended up rolling the suv & further slamming to a large hill. I was injured in this accident due to rolling my car! This happened bc i believe the cruise control got stuck & locked up my transmission!!! I also couldn't turn the key off since the car was in drive.
I was coming from food shopping, on august, 26, 2019 and was trying to leave out my parking spot. While me backing out, my vehicle accelerated backward and while i tried to stop my vehicle it tapped into a light pole. I was trying to get my self out of this weird situation. I switched gears to park my car, and my car accelerated forward slamming into a brick wall and also rubbing against it. My car then slowly started to back up not even letting me be able to break or switch gears. For the last time it accelerated forward side swiping a lady car and hitting the brick wall again. My air bags did not go off, leaving me with an concussion and also sever neck and head pain. This all happen so suddenly and randomly. I barely remembered what happened until seeing a video off of the camera at a near by gas station. This situation went from something weird happening into a very dangerous and scary situation. I contacted national consumers affairs hyundai motor vehicle, because my car had been totaled, i was left with hospital bills and also my insurance may go up, because of the whole situations. I thought i would have came to some closure when it came to them helping me out with my situation, but they told me they can't find nothing wrong with my car and there was no defect or anything. After sending these people pictures, the video, and even proof of me going to the hospital more than once, they made me feel like this was all my fault. I spoke to a "private" contractor from hyundai that was supposed to look into my car and also a specialist that didn't want to give me his last name while looking into my case. Also a lady from hyundai called me from a private number from the company. This all seem so weird to me as if they were scamming me when it came to a serious situation like this. I feel like hyundai is running fake investigations. I'm hoping nhtsa do something asap.

*tr

I was stopped in traffic on a freeway when hit from behind. The driver claims he was driving at approximately 35 mph yet my airbags did not deploy. How is that possible and is it normal?
We were driving on interstate 49 going south near Chester Arkansas when traffic came to a stop. I was rear ended by a vehicle driving 75 mph. My car hit the car in front of me where there was damage to both the passenger and driver side front area of the car. No airbags deployed in spite of the severity of the front and rear impact of the vehicle. I sustained three compression fractures to my back with several abrasions and bruises. Both my vehicle and the vehicle in front of me were declared total losses.
On dec 5, 2019 at 7:50 am, i was stopped at a red light waiting to turn west at a city intersection. When the light turned green, i accelerated and drove towards the middle of the intersection. There was no oncoming traffic, so i continued and was about to make a left turn when i got hit by 2018 ford escape. The driver ran the red light and hit my vehicle in the front drivers side quarter panel, causing visible damage to my fender, wheel, panel and bumper (more damage will be determined by insurance adjuster). The impact was so hard that it moved my car, pushing the front end of my car towards east of the intersection. I had my two children and my dog in the car. The airbags did not deploy, at all. The other vehicle hit us head on and their airbags did deploy. My head and upper body slammed into the drivers side window. Everyone in my car had their seatbelt on and my dog was tied, by his leash, to an anchor in the back. The impact to my head was so hard, i went to the er and they did a ct scan to make sure there were no fractures or bleeding. I was diagnosed with a concussion due to the impact. I am attaching photos of the scene and the damage to my vehicle.

There was no prior indication of a problem with the airbags.
While our vehicle was making a slow turn, another vehicle traveling at approx. 50 mph, crashed into the passenger side, then our car was flipped and landed on the roof. None of the airbags deployed. Air bags didn’t deploy on a front crash. Safety of my entire family in car was put at risk without airbags deploying. The problem has not been confirmed. There is damage to the undercarriage, the inner wheel well on the right side was torn off, the left front air dam, the exhaust system, the right front wheel was damage, and a flat tire.
As i was traveling east on a main road, i turned left on to a secondary road at a very low rate of speed. I was completely shocked by the impact of my vehicle with a vehicle that was in the opposite lane, headed in a southerly direction. Prior to the collision i had no awareness of the presence of a vehicle stopped in that location, as the vehicle was completely obliterated from my view by the left side view mirror. I believe that the exaggerated size of the mirror, and the location of its position made it impossible for me to have a clear, unobstructed view in that situation. I feel the design/placement of the mirror was definitely a contributing factor in this accident.

Can a Hyundai Santa Fe tow? Towing & payload
As an SUV, the Hyundai Santa Fe is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package.
What sets your Santa Fe's tow & payload rating:
- Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
- Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
- Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
- Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.
Exact towing capacity, payload and GVWR are added per engine, drivetrain and trim — decode your VIN above, or check the driver's door-jamb and hitch labels. Curb weight from vehicle specifications.
