ON 4/10/12 WENT TO GET CAR INSPECTED AND IT FAILED WAS TOLD REAR SUB FRAME ROTTEN. CALLED AND TALKED TO HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP. WE HAD THE SUB FRAME IN FRONT REPLACED BY LIA HYUNDAI IN JAN 2010 WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL. I DON'T GET WHY THE REAR WAS NOT RECALL IF THAT RUSTED OUT TOO. NOW I'M LOOKING AT $700-$800 TO HAVE IT FIX. I FEEL THAT IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS THIS SHOULD OF BEEN REPLACED WHEN I DID THE FRONT. I HAVE TALKED TO THESE PEOPLE ABOUT THIS AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CALL YOU BACK WITH ANSWER WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL CHECK INTO IT AND WILL CALL ME BACK. I CALLED THEM FOR 3 DAYS NOW AND IT'S THE SAME ANSWER. THIS CAR IS RUNNING GREAT EXCEPT FOR THE SUBFRAME. PLEASE IF YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE AND WHEEL COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS IN A PARKING LOT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE AND WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND UPON ARRIVAL, THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 120,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

MY SON WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH SOMEONE PULLED OUT OF A SIDE ROAD INTO HIS PATH OF TRAVEL. THE FRONT OF THE HYUNDAI FROM JUST PAST THE GRILL ON DRIVER'S SIDE TO ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE HIT THE FRONT DRIVER WHEEL FORWARD ON THE OTHER CAR. NEITHER THE STEERING WHEEL NOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED IN MY HYUNDAI. HE HIT WITH SUCH FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS BOWED AND STEERING COLUMN WAS BROKEN ALONG WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE DASH WHERE HIS KNEES HIT.

I WAS TOLD THAT AT THE MILEAGE THE CAR WAS AT I NEEDED ROUTINE SERVICE ON THE TRANSMISSION UNDER TERMS OF THE WARRANTY. THIS WAS DONE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT MY SERPENTINE BELT AND SPARK PLUGS WERE DUE TO BE REPLACED. I WAS NOT REMINDED THAT MY TIMING BELT HAD TO BE INSPECTED BEFORE 60000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIMING BELT HAD FAILED CAUSING CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND THAT SINCE I NOW HAD 60255 MILES ON THE CAR, AND HAD NOT HAD THE TIMING BELT REPLACED, THE 100000 MILE WARRANTY WAS VOID AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY DAMAGE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR WAS MORE THAN $5000 AND HYUNDAI WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF THAT COST. Upper rear control arm is connected to the subframe of the car and it’s rotted/ rusted out where the bushing goes to hold the control arm in place. Where am I supposed to mount the bushing now since it’s no longer there.

CALLED HYUNDAI AS MECHANIC SAID THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED UNDER A RECALL THAT CAME OUT SEVERAL YEARS AGO FOR "BECAUSE OF A POTENTIAL CORROSION RISK INVOLVING THE FRONT SUB-FRAME...CORROSION MAY PROGRESS AND THE FORWARD MOUNTING OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM MAY DETACH FROM THE SUB-FRAME. IF THAT HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE MAY LOSE DRIVER POWER TO THE WHEELS. THE FRONT WHEEL MAY MAKE CONTACT WITH THE FENDER OR WHEEL WELL." THE CONTACT WAS NOT SURE IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED OR EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V124000 (SUSPENSION). I TOOK MY 2001 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. THEY CALLED ME TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO TELL ME THAT THE CROSS MEMBER ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS RUSTED BADLY AND MAY BE CRACKED. THEY TOOK PICTURES AND CONTACTED HYUNDAI TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM, AS THEY HAD "NEVER" SEEN IT BEFORE. HYUNDAI HAS TOLD THEM I AM ON MY OWN FOR REPAIRING IT. RIDICULOUS, THERE IS A RECALL FOR CARS JUST ACROSS THE RIVER IN MN FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD I BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING 75 MPH AND IT BROKE. MY CAR HAS A REAR RUST PROBLEM THAT HAS LEFT THE CAR UNDRIVEABLE. THE SUPPORT FOR THE WHEEL HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND THE REAR WHEELS ARE TILTING IN. I DID LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR AS IT SWAYED FOR ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE OTHER LANE AND BACK. MY SPEED WAS ABOUT 45 MPH ON A TWO LANE ROAD WITH A SPEAD LIMIT OF 45 TO 55. WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD THE CAR SWERVED UNCONTROLABLY THE RUST IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM THAT OUR GOVERNMENT IS IGNORING. I HAVE HAD THE FRONT OF THE CAR IN FOR THE ORIGINAL RECALL FOR THE FRONT SUBFRAME. DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS RECALL ALLOWS THE MECHANIC TO DRILL HOLES IN THE SUBFRAME TO HELP THE MOISTER ESCAPE. SOUNDS LIKE A TEMPORARY FIX TO A SERIOUS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE DESIGN DID NOT ALLOW FOR MOISTURE PROBLEMS. YET THE PROBLEM IS ROAD SALT ACCORDING TO THE ORIGINAL LAW SUIT. BUT THEN WHY DRILL HOLES IF THE MOISTURE IS COMING FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE HOLES ARE NOT DRILLED FOR ANY REASON EXCEPT TO ALLOW MOISTURE TO ESCAPE FROM A POORLY DESIGNED SUB FRAME ASSEMBLY. HYUNDAI REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE CARS INHERENT PROBLEM. WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE MORE PEOPLE GET TERRIFIED OR DIE. REALLY THIS NEEDS TO GET DONE BY OUR GOVERNMENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. LIKE THE PINTO GAS TANK DESIGN.

'M ASKING FOR A LETTER STATING THAT THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM WILL BE ACTIVATED NO MATTER IF ONE, TWO, THREE,OR ALL FOUR WHEELS GO THROUGH A SMALL PUDDLE. IT DOES NOT SAY IT IN THE MANUAL. THE REASON I'M ASKING IS MY SON WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT ,WHICH THE RIGHT FRONT AND RIGHT REAR TIRES PASSED THROUGH A SMALL PUDDLE. THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM WAS THEN ACTIVATED. THE PUDDLE CAUSED HIM TO KEEP MOVING AND THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM CREATED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES SO HE COULD NOT PRESS THEM DOWN ALL THE WAY. 3 OF 4 WINDOW MECHANISMS HAVE FAILED IN THE DOWN POSITION DO NOT ALLOW THE WINDOWS TO BE ROLLED UP. FIRST THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW MECHANISM FAILED IN APRIL 2004 AND WAS REPAIRED. THE BACK PASSENGER WINDOW FAILED IN JULY AND FRONT PASSENGER WINDOWS FAILED IN OCTOBER. IT APPEARS THE WINDOW MECHANISM CORDING IS CAUSING THE MALFUNCTION. THE PASSENGER WINDOWS HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND ARE SECURED TEMPORARILY IN THE UP POSITION. THE OLD PARTS STILL IN TACT. *JB

THEY DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS A RUSTED FUEL LINE UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. SERVICE DEPARTMENT ESTIMATED COST AT $2,100.00 DOLLARS FOR REPLACING FUEL LINE AND FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. SEEMED RELUCTANT TO DO REPAIR OF FUEL LINE, MENTIONING HOW THE BRAKE LINES ARE ALSO LOCATED NEXT TO THE FUEL LINES, LENGTH OF TIME ORDERING PARTS AND HOW COMPLICATED THE REPAIR IS ALONG WITH THE RUST IN THAT LOCATION. I WAS DRIVING ON HWY 60, TOWARDS LEXINGTON VA. THIS IS A NARROW FOUR LANE, DIVIDED BY A GRASSY MEDIAN, THERE ARE VERY FEW PLACES TO PULL OVER. AS I WAS DRIVING UPHILL, AT ABOUT 55 MPH, MY HOOD FLEW UP AND SMASHED AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD, AND WRAPPED AROUND THE ROOF OF THE CAR. I WAS PASSING A LOG TRUCK WHEN THIS HAPPENED, AND THERE WASN'T ANYWHERE TO PULL OVER, SO I DROVE LOOKING THROUGH THE CURVE UNDER THE HOOD, AND USED ALL OF MY MIRRORS UNTIL I COULD GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. MY 13 YR. OLD SON WAS IN THE PASSENGER SIDE, AND WE WERE BOTH COMPLETELY IN SHOCK. THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR, APPROXIMATELY $4000.00. THE OTHER COMPLAINT I HAVE IS I HAD TO WAIT 8 WEEKS FOR HYUNDAI TO GET A HOOD FOR MY CARS, MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. THEY SAID, THE HOODS WERE ON BACK ORDER AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHEN THY WOULD BE ABLE TO GET MY HOOD. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2001 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS V6. AS I WAS COASTING DOWN THE EXIT RAMP OF AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, APPROACH A STOP LIGHT, MY CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLABLY. I WAS ABLE TO STOP ONLY BY APPLYING THE BRAKE WITH CONSIDERABLE FORCE, BARELY AVOIDING A COLLISION WITH CARS STOPPED AT THE LIGHT. I THEN SHIFTED FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE BEGAN ALTERNATELY REVVING UP TO BEYOND 3,000 RPM AND BACK DOWN TO IDLE REPEATEDLY. THIS STOPPED AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING. IT HAPPENED TWICE MORE AT SUCCEEDING STOP LIGHTS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY REPAIRED IT BY REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH-INHIBITOR (PART NO. 42700-39050). ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT COVERED BY SERVICE BULLETIN TSB 03-40-013. WHILE I MANAGED TO AVERT AN ACCIDENT, THIS WAS A VERY SERIOUS FAILURE THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY OR DEATH. I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT THIS SHOULD BE THE SUBJECT OF A MANDATORY RECALL. *JB

MY HYUNDAI SATA FE, 2001, WAS PARKED AND UNATTENDED WHEN THE CAR IGNITED INTO FLAMES. A WITNESS SAW THE FIRE BEGIN IN THE HOOD OF THE CAR. ACCORDING TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT, THERE WAS NO CRIME OR ARSON. INSTEAD IT CLEARLY SAYS THAT THE CAUSE OF IGNITION WAS ACCIDENTAL, AND THE EQUIPMENT OR HEAT SOURCE FAILED. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION IN THE ENGINE DUE TO MANUFACTURER. THIS WAS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI DID NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO FOR THE MALFUNCTION IN THE ENGINE. GEICO'S CLAIM DEPARTMENT NOTIFIED ME THAT MY CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. THE INVESTIGATOR CLEARLY STATED THAT THIS ACCIDENT WAS NOT DUE TO MY ACTIONS. THEY ALSO SAID THAT I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT IN THE CAR OR I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR BURNED IN THE FIRE. HYUNDAI DID NOT WANT TO HELP ME WITH THIS MATTER. I STILL HAVE A LOAN OUT ON THE CAR. MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER 60,000 MILES AND I HAD FULL WARRANTY. GEICO HAS SETTLED FOR A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY. ALL I WANTED WAS ANOTHER CAR. I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH A USED CAR TO REPLACE THE CAR WHICH WENT UP IN FLAMES DUE TO HYUNDAI'S POOR MANUFACTURING. ENGINE MISSES AND BACKFIRES THROUGH THE INTAKE. THE MAJOR PROBLEM IS WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT IS IN PARK, OR IF YOU ARE DRIVING IT. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN IT MALFUNCTIONED. I WAS SITTING AT A SIGNAL LIGHT WHEN THE ENGINE ACCELERATOR WENT UP TO 4200 RPM BY ITSELF WITH NO FOOT ON THE PEDAL. I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT, I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HAD TO TAKE IT OUT OF DRIVE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE ENGINES RPMS CHANGE A LOT NOW AND WILL NOT IDLE RIGHT AT ALL; THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THESE ENGINE PROBLEMS; AND SHOULD NOT BE ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER GETTING OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD QUICKLY, WHERE IT STALLED AGAIN AND AGAIN, I CALLED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR A TOW TO THE DEALER. THEY EXAMINED AND DROVE THE CAR, AND TOLD ME IT WASN'T ACTING UP FOR THEM, AND SUGGESTED I TAKE IT HOME WHILE THEY ORDERED AN EXHAUST PURGE VALVE PER A 2.4L ENGINE PROBLEM SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HYUNDAI. THEY RENTED A CAR FOR ME, AND OVER THE NEXT WEEK REPLACED THE PURGE VALVE, BUT THE CAR ALSO DIED ON THEM, SO THEY DID A MORE THOROUGH ANALYSIS, WHICH SHOWED A FAILED CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, WHICH CAUSED IGNITION SPARK FAILURE. AFTER REPLACING THAT, THEY CALLED ME TO COME GET THE CAR AND TAKE IT HOME. THIS TIME IT FAILED JUST AS I REACHED MY DRIVEWAY, AGAIN BUCKING AND STALLING WITH THE TACHOMETER SWINGING WILDLY UP AND DOWN. FOR A THIRD TIME, I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR A TOW TO THE DEALER, WHICH PROMISED A SEARCH TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES, INVOLVEMENT OF THE DISTRICT MANAGER, AND AN ATTEMPT TO OBTAIN A DIFFERENT SENSOR MODEL IN CASE THE BATCH OF AVAILABLE SENSORS WAS "BAD". SUBSEQUENT PHONE CALLS TO THE DEALERSHIP HAVE NOT PRODUCED ANY ANSWER AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES, DELAYS IN OBTAINING A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT PART, AND SO FAR, A TOTAL OF 18 INOPERABLE DAYS FOR MY NEW CAR. THIS FAILURE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE; A PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT "OTHER (HYUNDAI) VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM" ONE OF WHICH WAS THERE WHILE I WAS AT THE DEALER WAITING FOR MY SECOND RENTAL CAR. SIX WEEKS, 4,000 MI. LATER I HIT A POT WHOLE ON MY STREET AND DAMAGED THE STEERING. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND DISCOVERED THE R-SIDE SUB-FRAME WAS BROKEN DUE TO CORROSION. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE WHEEL AND ASSEMBLY BROKE FREE FROM THE FRAME OF THE CAR WHICH WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND DROPPED THE CAR TO THE GROUND PUSHED THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WHEEL WELL. AFTER RESEARCHING THE MAKE AND MODEL THEIR IS A RECALL PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE BUT ONLY APPLIES TO THE SALT BELT. MY CAR WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD AND OPERATED IN VIRGINIA FOR 7 YEARS. I WAS TRYING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT, AS I SWERVED THE CAR FISH TAILED. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE HIT THE CURB, AT WHICH POINT THE TIRE ACTUALLY BUCKLED UNDER THE CAR. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A SHOP. WHEN THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE CAR AT FIRST WE BELIEVED WE ONLY NEEDED THE REAR TIRE ASSEMBLY. TUESDAY, AUGUST 5, 2008, I BROUGHT IN MY 2001 GLS V6 HYUNDAI SONATA TO BALISE HYUNDAI OF CAPE COD IN HYANNIS, MA. MY CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 166,500 MILES ON IT AT THIS TIME. I WAS LOOKING TO GET A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR REPLACED. DURING THEIR DIAGNOSTICS, WITH THE CAR ON A LIFT, THEY NOTICED TWO THINGS. ONE, A POWER STEERING LEAK WAS OCCURRING MOST LIKELY BECAUSE OF A CORRODED POWER STEERING LINE NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE SUBFRAME. TWO, IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA OF THE SUSPECTED HOSE FAILURE, THE SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH ON TWO SIDES OF THE PIECE. THE MAIN HOLE IN THE SUBFRAME IS FIST-SIZE OR LARGER AND THE SECOND IS NOT GOOD. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME ISSUE WAS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND WARNED ME OF WHAT COULD HAPPENED SHOULD IT FAIL. THEY ALSO TOLD ME ABOUT THE DIFFICULTIES THAT REPLACING IT COULD BRING. I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AFTER DRIVING ONLY 10MPH, MY ENGINE CRADLE DROPPED DOWN THERE FOR SMASHING THROUGH MY FRONT AXEL, AND TURNING IN BOTH OF MY FRONT WHEELS. NOT REALIZING WHAT HAPPENED I CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO A REPAIR SHOP. BOTH TIRES POPPED. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND PAID AN OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT TO GET A TOW TO A REPAIR SHOP. I WAS WITHOUT A CAR FOR 2 WEEKS WHILE THEY REPLIED MY VEHICLE WHICH COST ME ALMOST $1,300. MY INSURE COMPANY WOULD NOT TOTAL OUT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO SALT CORROSION AND RUST (WARE AND TEAR). DID I MENTION I WAS ON VACATION WHEN THIS HAPPENED? $$$. NOW MY TRANSMISSION IS TROUBLE SHOOTING SOMEHOW (151,000 MILES). IT'S HAVING TROUBLE SWITCHING GEARS AND IT HITS PRETTY HARD WHEN IT FINALLY DOES. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON, SOMETIMES THIS HELPS SOMETIMES IT DOES. MY RPM SHOT UP TO 4 OR 5 WHICH BURNS GAS LIKE CRAZY. THE RUST ON THE REAR WHEEL WELLS AND BOTTOM IS UNFIXIBLE. WAS NOTIFIED BY DEALER TODAY THAT HYUNDAI WAS NOT COVERING THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINES, BECAUSE IT WAS NOT SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT IN THE RECALL. FILING A COMPLAINT AGAINST HYUNDAI NORTHEAST AUTO OUTLET AT 3301 GRANT AV REPORTING THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPT. I OWN A 2001 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. I TOOK MY CAR TO SERVICE DEPT.,FOR THE 34 PT. CHECKUP ON 11/26/07. ALSO,DECIDED TO GET CAR INSPECTED AT THE SAME TIME. THEY REPLACED THE CRANKSHFT SENSOR. WAS TOLD TO DRIVE MY CAR AT LEAST 150 MILES SO THAT THEY CAN RESET THE MONITORS WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ON. THIS COST ME $257.00 NOW,VISIT #2- ON 1/03/08 ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY FIND 3 NEW PROBLEMS. THEY REPLACED A VALVE CANNISTER,PURGE VALVE,GAS CAP. THEY STATE THEY ALSO CLEARED THE CODES TO PASS INSPECTION. BUT, AGAIN I HAD TO DRIVE MY CAR ANOTHER 50+ MILES AGAIN SO THAT THEY COULD RESET THE MONITORS. ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF, WHICH WAS A GOOD SIGN. THIS COST ME $508.00. HOWEVER, THE NEXT MORNING,I STARTED UP THE CAR. IT STARTED VERY ROUGH AND FELT LIKE IT WAS READY TO STALL OUT ON ME. ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON ALSO. SHE TELLS ME THAT THEIR WAS A #4 CYLINDER MISFIRE CODE, NEEDED A FUEL INJECTOR,SPARK PLUGS, PLUG WIRES,TIMING BELT, SERPENTINE BELT,BELT TENSIONER,OILL CHANGE AND FUEL INJECTOR SERVICE. ESTIMATED AT LEAST $1200.00. THIS WAS VERY UPSETTING. I DECLINED ALL WORK AND FILE A CUSTOMER COMPLAINT AGAINST THEM. MY CAR WAS RUNNING FINE WHEN I TOOK IT THE FIRST TIME. 2000 HYUNDAI SONATA WITH A DEFECTIVE SUB FRAME. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR EXPENSES ON THE REPAIR OF THE SUB-FRAME. MY 2001 HYUNDAI SONATA WAS BOUGHT NEW. IT HAS GIVEN ME NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS FROM THE TIME I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT AND AS SOON AS I HIT THE 60,000 MILE MARK (THE BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY ENDED AT THIS POINT), THE CAR CONSTANTLY HAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. THE AIRBAGS WERE FIXED BY THE DEALER BECAUSE THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE BRAKES HAD A LOUD SQUEAK AND DEALER REPLACED (UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME). THE SIDE FRONT WINDOW MOTORS HAVE BEEN FIXED TWICE AND NOW THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW MOTOR IS BROKEN AND I HAD TO PUT TAPE ON IT SO THAT IT WILL STAY UP. THE TIMING BELT WENT OUT AFTER THE WARRANTY. SOME KIND OF COIL BROKE AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS TURNING ON. I STOPPED TAKING IT TO THE DEALER AFTER THE CAR BROKE DOWN, HAD IT TOWED, DEALER IN LAUREL, MD CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED IT, CHARGED ME $768, PICKED UP CAR, SAME PROBLEM, ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON AND TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER. DEALER SAID THERE WAS YET ANOTHER PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT AND THEY CHARGED ME OVER $500. STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND WAS CHARGED $45 FOR THE REPAIR. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OTHER PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. I JUST SPENT $435 ON ANOTHER REPAIR. THE FINAL TIME, THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE WAS A ROTOR IN THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR THAT WAS DENTED. THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS REPLACED. ALSO, A PUDDLE WAS NOTICED UNDER THE VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF SUDDENLY. CRANK SHAFT SENSOR FAILED THREE SEPARATE TIMES IN THIS VEHICLE. ONCE AT 32,000 MILES. NEARLY LOST CONTROL AROUND A 90 DEGREE BEND. SECOND TIME OCCURRED JUNE 9TH, 2005 AT 83,000 MILES AFTER TURNING OFF A HIGHWAY. THIRD TIME IT OCCURRED WAS JULY 15TH, 2005. I WAS IDLING AND ATTEMPTED TO PUT IT IN DRIVE TO PROCEED FORWARD. I HAD IT TOWED TWICE IN THREE DAYS TO DEALER. EACH TIME, THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE LAST TWO TIMES THE CRANK BLADE WAS ALSO REPLACED. NONE OF THE TIMES DID I EXPECT THERE TO BE ANY PROBLEMS WITH DRIVING THE VEHICLE. NOW I AM WORRIED A LOT. I HEARD A REPETITIVE CLICKING SOUND AND TURNED MY RADIO OFF TO LISTEN. THE NOISE DIDN'T CHANGE WHEN I SLOWED DOWN AND I RESUMED MY NORMAL SPEED OF 60 MPH. AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE CAR SLOWLY & GRADUALLY BEGAN PULLING TO THE LEFT. I WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE AT ALL AND WAS MOVING INTO THE SHOULDER AND MEDIAN BETWEEN THE HIGHWAYS. I TRIED TO APPLY MY BRAKES BUT THE CAR WAS NOT RESPONDING. I HAD NO STEERING OR BRAKES AND WAS HEADING TOWARDS ONCOMING TRAFFIC AT 60 MPH. I HIT THE END OF A GUARD RAIL AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THESE CARS ARE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE! THE WEATHER STRIPPING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HAS A 4" LONG PIECE TORN OUT OF IT AT MID DOOR LEVEL AND THE DOOR FRAME HAS AN ABRASION APPROXIMATELY 6" LONG AT MID DOOR LEVEL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT CAUSED THE ABRASION AND THE TORN WEATHER STRIPPING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE COST TO REPLACE THE WEATHER STRIPPING WOULD BE $98.00. ON APRIL 28, 2001 I AND THREE OTHER PASSENGERS WERE RIDING IN THE VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A LONG GRADE AT 35 TO 40 MILES PER HOUR. TOWARD THE BOTTOM OF THE GRADE THE ROAD CURVES TO THE RIGHT AND AT THE BOTTOM THERE IS A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. WHEN I CAME AROUND THE CURVE I SAW THAT THE LIGHT WAS GREEN AND PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE IN ORDER TO GET UP THE APPROACHING UPGRADE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THE ENGINE REVVED VERY HIGH BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. TANSMISSION HAD SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL ALTHOUGH THE SHIFTER STILL INDICATED THAT I WAS IN DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT OUT OF NEUTRAL. I HAD TO MANUALLY SHIFT INTO LOW GEAR. TWO DAYS LATER I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND, AFTER THREE DAYS, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND THAT THEY WOULD MAKE NO REPAIRS. ON FRIDAY MAY 4, 2001 I WAS CONTACTED BY THE HYUNDAI REGIONAL SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WHO TRIED TO CONVINCE ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THE MATTER WITH MY VEHICLE. HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE VEHICLES "ADAPTIVE LEARNING" FEATURE THAT CAUSED THE SHIFT AND THAT WHAT I EXPERIENCED WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE NEW CAR I OWN WAS DESIGNED TO SHIFT AND STAY IN NEUTRAL WHEN IT IS IN A SITUATION WHERE ACCELERATION IS NECESSARY. BOTH THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTUER CONTINUE TO INSIST THAT THERE IS NOTHING THE MATTER WITH THE VEHICLE AND REFUSE TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS. ALSO, ONE WEEK BEFORE THE INCIDENT , MY WIFE AND I WERE ON THE SAME ROAD AND THE VEHICLE DID NEARLY THE SAME THING. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THAT AFTER ABOUT A SECOND OR TWO OF STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL TRANSMISSION SHIFTED ITSELF BACK FROM NEUTRAL INTO DRIVE. PLEASE HELP.*AK
