THE CONTACT CALLED LANCASTER HYUNDAI AT (866) 528-2534 (LOCATED AT 5260 MAIN ST, EAST PETERSBURG, PA 17520) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. PAINT IS FLAKING OFF OF ALL THE DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2001 SONATA GOLD COLOR. WHEN IT WAS ONLY HAPPENING ON ONE DOOR, MY DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT THERE PROBLEM. I SENSED, THAT THAT MAY NOT BE THE PROBLEM, I TOOK IT TO A INDEPENDENT SHOP, AND HAD IT DIAGNOSED, WITH A SCANNER, AND THE SCANNER SHOWED A CODE BD1406 PPD. WHICH STANDS FOR PASSENGER PRESENCE DETECTOR, AND SHOWED THAT IT WAS DEFECTIVE. SO ITS A FAULTY SENSOR. WHICH TRANSLATES TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I CANNOT AFFORD, TO SPEND $1.500 FOR A MODULE, WHEN IT SHOULD ONLY BE THE DEFECTIVE SENSOR UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT, WHICH SHOULD TOTAL AROUND $360.00 INCLUDING LABOR, AND THE HYUNDAI MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FIX. BEFORE I GET INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT, AND MY LIFE IS AT STAKE, INCLUDING MY CHILDREN, AND WIFE. I HAVE HAD THE SONATA AT THE ARAPAHOE HYUNDAI DEALER ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS HAVING THE AIRBAG LIGHT RESET/FIXED THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A CONNECTION PROBLEM AND THEY HAD TO USE A SPECIAL GRACE TO FIX IT NOW IT'S THE THIRD TIME THE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND I'M HAVING TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN NOT KNOWING WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO FIND THIS TIME. REAR SUBFRAME RUSTED AWAY AND TRAILING ARMS BOTH FELL OFF. WAS TRAVELING AND WHEN I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN THE RIGHT TRAILING ARM BROKE OFF AND INSTANTLY MADE THE CAR ALMOST SWERVE OFF THE ROAD. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. UPON APPROACHING AN EXIT I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO REDUCE MY SPEED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND CONSEQUENTLY I ENGAGED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT DID NOT COME ON UNTIL I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. NO ACCIDENT ENSURED AS A RESULT. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY WHERE REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT LOOKED AS IF THE BRAKE LINE CAME LOOSE FROM WHERE IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE, AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE WITH A TEMPORARY ONE IN ORDER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE DELAER CLAIMED THAT WHOEVERR REPLACED IT INSTALLED IN IMPROPERLY. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE CV BOOT. SHE REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE OUT OF POCKET. HER HUSBAND FELT THAT THIS WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE HAD A RECALL ON IT IN 2004 FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE STORAGE AND FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY. ACCORDING TO THE HOME OFFICE THE VALVE FIX WAS INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE IN 2005, I HAVE NO RECORD OF THE INSTALLATION. IN 2011 MY VEHICLE BROKE DOWN AND I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE FUEL PUMP, SO I HAD IT REPLACED WITH A NEW FUEL PUMP I PURCHASED AT AN AUTO SUPPLY SHOP. AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW FUEL PUMP MY VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE TO START, THE GAS WAS TAKING TO LONG TO GET TO THE INJECTORS. AFTER RESEARCHING I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL NOT REMEMBERING ANYTHING ABOUT IT OR HAVING A VALVE INSTALLED. MY QUESTION IS ON SUCH AN IMPORTANT RECALL WHY ISN'T THERE NOTICE AT THE AUTO SUPPLY STORES ON VEHICLES AND PARTS ON RECALL. A RAISED FLAG IF YOU WILL, SO WHEN I (SOMEONE) GO TO PURCHASE THE NEW FUEL PUMP A NOTICE WOULD HAVE COME UP ABOUT THE RECALL. I RECENTLY TOOK MY 2002 HYUNDAI SONATA TO KROGER GAS STATION TO FILL UP MY TANK THAT WAS ON 1/4 FULL. HOWEVER, WHEN I GOT THERE AND STARTED TO PUMP MY GAS IT STARTED OUT BY ONLY PUMPING OUT $0.05 OF GAS BEFORE THE PUMP CLICKED OFF. THEN IT ONLY WAS PUMPING $0.03 OF GAS BEFORE IT CLICKED OFF. I TRIED TO GINGERLY SQUEEZE THE HANDLE TO MAKE IT PRETTY MUCH DRIP OUT, BUT THAT WAS NOT WORKING EITHER BECAUSE IT KEPT SHUTTING OFF. I ENDED UP GOING TO A BP GAS STATION BC I THOUGHT MAYBE IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE KROGER PUMP, BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I ENDED UP PUMPING $16 OF GAS WHICH TOOK ME ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO DO! I HAVE 71,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND JUST STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM 2 DAYS AGO. AFTER HAVING INCREASED DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE CAR, I TOOK IT TO MY TIRE DEALER FOR AN ALIGNMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS "BROKEN" AND WAS SHREDDING MY REAR TIRES. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT WAS REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME, HOWEVER, THE REAR (WHICH IS WHAT I WENT IN FOR) WAS IN VERY BAD SHAPE BUT IT WAS NOT COVERED AND WOULD COST ME $1,500 TO REPAIR IT. STEERING PROBLEM. THE CAR WOULD DIFFICULT TO TURN AND THEN IT WOULD STEER FINE. THIS WENT ON FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. I MOVED THE CAR ONE MORNING AND THERE WAS A BOLT ON THE GROUND WHICH LOOKED AS IF IT WAS FROM THE CAR. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE BOLTS ON THE RACK AND PINION WERE LOOSE AND ONE OF THE BOLTS WAS THE ONE I FOUND ON THE GROUND. THE RACK AND PINION COMING LOOSE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM.

I purchased a 2002 Hyundai Sonata from a private seller who represented the car had about 40,000–45,000 miles. However, diagnostics from O’Reilly Auto Parts showed 278,000 miles, and Hyundai’s system confirmed over 302,000 miles. The title is marked “mileage exempt,” and the seller is not the same person listed on the title, suggesting title jumping. I have repair invoices, diagnostic records, and screenshots of the original advertisement. I believe this constitutes odometer tampering and misrepresentation.

TRAVELING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 15 AT 75 MPH, WITH THE CAR ON CRUISE CONTROL. AT THE START OF A CURVE THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE. IT REACHED OVER 5,000 RPMS. STEPPING ON THE BRAKE ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING. I SHUT OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE OVER 6,000 RPMS I SHUT THE ENGINE AND FINALLY GOT CONTROL OF THE CAR. DURING THIS TIME I HAD GONE OFF THE HIGHWAY DOWN A RAVINE HITTING BOULDERS AND ROCKS AND INTO THE DESERT AND DAMAGING MY CAR. I RE-STARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE SOUNDED WEIRD. I SHUT THE ENGINE AGAIN AND WAITED FOR A LONGER PERIOD BEFORE RESTARTING. IT SOUNDED BETTER SO I SHIFTED THE CAR INTO GEAR AND STARTED FORWARD SLOWLY. THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION FIRM NEARBY. THEY PUT THE CAR UP ON A COMPUTER, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE CODE READ P.O. 12. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE UNWOUND THE CRUISE CABLE BY HAND AND IT SHOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE AS LONG AS I DID NOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE CODE HAD BEEN ERASED. LATER DURING HYUNDAI INVESTIGATION I WAS TOLD THAT THE MECHANIC SAID HE HAD REMOVED THE CODE IN ORDER TO TEST THE CRUISE CONTROL. ON MY RETURN HOME I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING. I AM THANKFUL THAT MY WIFE AND I WERE NOT HARMED. ALL I WANT IS HYUNDAI TO ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FIXING THE CAR. HYUNDAI WAS NOT HELPFUL IN ANYWAY AND INSTEAD ACTED AS IF I MADE UP THE ENTIRE INCIDENT. I HAVE A HYUNDAI SONATA. ITS 2002 WITH 50,000 MILES ON IT. THE FIRST TIME IT GAVE ME TROUBLE, IT WAS MAKING A GRINDING SOUND WHILE DRIVING TO WORK. THE MECHANIC CHANGED MY CALIBER ON ONE SIDE OF THE CAR AND REPLACED MY HOSES. NEXT MONTH SAME SOUND STARTED AGAIN. MY MECHANIC CHANGED THE OTHER CALIBER. SIX MONTHS LATER. I STARTED HEARING THAT SAME SOUND AND THE BRAKES STARTED LOCKING. THE MECHANIC DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. TWO WEEKS LATER, I LOST MY BRAKES WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 10. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP WITHOUT ANY INCIDENTS. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC.I WAS TOLD I DAMAGED THE MASTER CYLINDER. HE PUT ALL NEW PARTS IN MY CAR (BRAKE SHOES,PADS, CALIBERS, MASTER CYLINDER, ETC.) AND TESTED IT. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING ON I-10, IT STARTED LOCKING UP AGAIN. IT HAS BAFFLED MY MECHANIC. MY CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP. I HAVE SPENT OVER $1500.00 ON REPAIRS OF THESE BRAKES,NOT TO MENTION THE RENTAL FEES OF CARS FOR TRANSPORTATION. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A COUNTY ROAD DOING APPROX. 45 MPH. THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE SUDDENLY TILTED 50 DEGREES INWARD AND SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE AUTO. AFTER NEARLY MISSING A TELEPHONE POLE, SHE PLOWED INTO A CORN FIELD AND CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. SHE SUFFERED A SPRAINED WRIST FROM STEERING WHEEL "WHIP" AND BRUISED HER KNEE IN THE ACCIDENT. UPON EXAMINATION BY THE MECHANIC , HE FOUND THAT THE A FRAME ON THE RIGHT SIDE HAD BROKE IN HALF. THE METAL IN THE FRAME HAD RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE BY PREVIOUS UNDER-CARRIAGE REPAIRS, SUCH AS TIRE CHANGE, OIL CHANGE ETC. THE CAR HAS HAD SUPERB MAINTENANCE THROUGHOUT ITS HISTORY AND HAS BEEN BOUGHT AND SOLD WITHIN THE SAME FAMILY SINCE BEING BOUGHT NEW BY THE SON IN 2002. WE LOVE THE CAR AND HAVE ENJOYED THE 123,000 MILES OF DRIVING BUT ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HYUNDAI BECAUSE WE HAVE NO RECORD OF EVER RECEIVING A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. MY CAR STARTED GETTING ERRATIC IDLING AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO TURN ON. I GOT THE SPARK PLUGS AND SPARK PLUG WIRES REPLACED AND THEN IT MILD DOWN AFTER AROUND 1WK AFTER, THEN THE ERRATIC IDLING WHILE ON DRIVE OR ON REVERSE STARTED AGAIN. LEFT IT LIKE THAT THINKING IT WAS MAYBE THE FUEL PUMP OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. HAD MY BROTHER THAT IS A MECHANIC CHECK IT AND SAID HE FOUND THE SPARK PLUG WIRES OUT OF SEQUENCE, BUT AFTER HE MADE SURE ALL WERE THE CORRECT ORDER THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN, SAME ERRATIC IDLING AND THIS TIME IT REALLY DID FEEL LIKE SOMETIMES LOOSING POWER. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE SINCE THEN THAT I WAS DRIVING, DON'T RECALL THE MPH, BUT IT MUST OF BEEN AROUND 50 - 60 MPH CAUSE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. THE WHOLE ENGINE SPORADICALLY, IN LESS THAN A SPLIT SECOND, TURNS OFF THEN ON. ALL THE ELECTRIC PANEL AND THE FRONT DASHBOARD AND THE WHOLE CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TURNS OFF/ON IN A "BLINK OF AN EYE". IT MADE THE CAR MAKE AN ERRATIC AND SUDDEN STOP, LIKE IF I HAD PUT THE BRAKES COMPLETELY OR THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED THAT SPLIT SECOND. THEN IT WENT BACK ON AND STILL DRIVING. AFTER THAT IT DID IT ABOUT 2 MORE TIMES LIKE AROUND THOSE MINS I WAS DRIVING, ABOUT MINS APART. THE DRIVER HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. SHE NOTICED THAT THE FRAME ON THE FRONT END, WHICH HOUSES THE SUPPORTS FOR THE WHEELS, WAS RUSTED OUT COMPLETELY. THE THROTTLE/CRUISE CONTROL CABLE (EVEN THO HE DID NOT HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL ON) WAS STUCK. HE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED SO HEDROVE THE CAR A FEW MORE WEEKS AND WAS ON HIS WAY HOME WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME HE RAN INTO A UTILITY POLE. THE CAR WAS DAMAGED PRETTY BADDLY BUT THANK THE LORD HE WAS NOT. HE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE UTILITY COMPANY IS CHARGING US ABOUT $4000.00 OR MORE DOLLARS FOR THE WORK THEY HAD TO DO TO THE POLE. I CALLED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THE CAR IS AT A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. CONSUMER AFFAIRS IS MAILING ME A FORM TO FILL OUT. I DO NOT KNOW IF HYUNDAI IS GOING TO CLAIM RESPONSIBLITY OR NOT. I FEEL THAT THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED TO SEE IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE THROTTLE/CRUISE CONTROL STICKING MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP OR CAUSING ANY OTHER PROBLEM. DRIVING AT 25 - 30 MPH I WAS HIT HEAD ON BY ANOTHER MID SIZE VEHICLE. I SUSTAINED HEAD, NECK, AND BACK INJURIES AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MY CONCERN IS THAT I HAVE A 2003 HYUNDAI SONATA WILL THOSE BAGS NOT DEPLOY IN A HEAD ON? MY WIFE AND CHILD DRIVE THE 2003 . I AM VERY CONCERNED. RIGHT FRONT SPEAKER POPS ON AND OFF AT A STOP OR MOVING. WHEN YOU USE THE AC BUTTON, WINDSHIELD WIPER, WINDOWS, AND TURN SIGNALS THE SPEAKER EITHER SHUTS OFF OR TURNS ON. THE RADIO WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES, THE SPEAKER TWICE AND THE WIRING AND WIRING HARNESSES WERE REPLACED. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP WITH AND WITHOUT REPAIRS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AT LEAST 12 TIMES. THE PROBLEM STARTED THE FIRST NIGHT WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN OCTOBER OF 2001. THE CAR HAS HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER WINDOW MOTORS, BATTERY, AND REMOTE DOOR LOCKS. I FEEL AS THOUGH I HAVE SPENT MORE TIME AT THE DEALER TRYING TO GET THE CAR FIXED THEN ACTUALLY ENJOYING THE CAR. I HAVE FILED CASES WITH THE HYUNDAI CORPORATE OFFICE, A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE LOOKED AT THE CAR, HEARD THE PROBLEM, IN FORMED THE DEALER ON HOW TO FIX IT. I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL 6 DAYS LATER SAYING THE CHIEF MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO HE DID NOT TOUCH IT. EVEN THOUGH THE FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE HEARD THE PROBLEM AND TOLD THEM WHAT TO FIX. I HAVE TAKEN THE FIRST STEP IN THE LEMON LAW, I HAVE SENT A CERTIFIED DEFECT COMPLAINT TO THE DEALER. THE RECEIVED IT APRIL 11 2003 AT 12:00 PM. I AM JUST WAITING ON THERE RESPONSE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE TO MY SELF AND MY FAMILY. TWO VISITS AGO THE DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR ONE WEEK. WHEN I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK, THE CAR WAS COVERED WITH AN UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE (MAYBE TREE SAP) ALL OVER THE HOOD, ROOF, AND TRUNK. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION WHILE THE FACTORY REP WAS THERE. THE REP TOLD THEM TO COMPOUND THE CAR OUT AND RECTIFY THIS ISSUE. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, THE CAR WAS WASHED BUT THE SUBSTANCE WAS STILL THERE, NOW WITH SWIRL SCRATCHES IN THE PAINT WHERE THEY TRIED TO UP THE SUBSTANCE OFF THE CAR. DEALER AND CORPORATE WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS. THIS WILL BE THE FINAL CASE FOR MY LAWYER AGAINST HYUNDAI. *NLM

VEHICLE HAS PROBLEMS WITH FRONT VIBRATION. *MR THE VEHICLE VEERED LEFT AND THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF STEERING. THE CAUSE WAS FOUND TO BE BROKEN U-BOLT. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE FROM FRONT END WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AND THE CAUSE WAS DETERMINED TO BE FRONT LEFT AXLE FAILURE, WHICH WAS REPLACED. BRAKES CONSTANTLY SQUEAK AND PULSATE, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *YH
