THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AND IT WON'T GO OFF. THIS IS ALL THE TIME WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY, OR MOVING. WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF, IT'S STILL ON.

THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THE MORE I LOOK AROUND I SEE THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. JUST THIS SITE ALONE HAD 50 COMPLAINTS ON THE AIRBAG ALONE.

I took my car to the mechanic for a “once over” before driving from New Jersey to North Carolina. This car has only 41,000 original miles on it as we bought it new in 2005. Upon inspection, the mechanic came back with certain repairs that are needed due to age; but he was extremely concerned about a severe safety issue that the subframe had rotted out and needed to be replaced. This is a known corrosion issue with other years of manufacture for this model. There was a class action suit for this specific issue for 1999 to 2004 Sonatas. The subframe threatens to collapse from rust at any time and is an extreme hazard to the driver, passengers, and others on the road. There was absolutely no warning of this issue prior to this inspection, making it even more dangerous as it affects many drivers who are unaware of the issue.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ELYRIA HYUNDAI (845 LEONA ST, ELYRIA, OH 44035, (440) 374-8700) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 15927053. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,429.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,978.

The contact owns a 2005 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle rode over a pothole which caused a fracture in the subframe. The contact had taken the vehicle to several independent mechanics and was informed that the failure was caused by severe salt corrosion. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed her that there were no recalls associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000. Consumer stated part# FC112 is used for 2003, 2004 AND 2005. 2003 AND 2004 of the same make and model are already recalled for the same issue with the subframe having rust due to excessive salt exposure, but SOMEHOW the 2005 which is EXACTLY the same part and problem has not been recalled.

My mechanic just took a picture of the subframe of the car which is almost completely rusted through. He said that this is extremely dangerous and that if it was to break while driving the car, I would loose control. I have seen numerous complaints about this on the 2005 Hyundai Sonata on the internet which makes me think this is a common issue.

The contact owns a 2005 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while having a state inspection performed, the inspector informed the contact that the sub-frame was completely rusted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V124000 (Suspension) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000.

I had taken my 2005 Hundai Sonata to my local mechanic for a tire alignment, and it is then when I was told that the front subframe was rusted from the inside. There was no indicator of this beforehand, and had it been let be, I could have lost control of the car while driving and been in an accident.

2005 HYUNDAI SONATA FRONT SUB-FRAME FAILURE. THE SUB FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND WHILE DRIVING IT BROKE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. HYUNDAI WAS SUED IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR MODEL YEARS 1999-2004 IN UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT OF CALIFORNIA. MY MODEL YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LAWSUIT. HOWEVER, MY SONATA HAS THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT HYUNDAI ASKING THAT THEY REPAIR MY VEHICLE. FILED IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. 6/29/2020 RECEIVED A CALL FROM [XXX] (SERVICE MANAGER AT MIKE MILLER HYUNDAI) HE THREATENED TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED AS ABANDONED. I OFFERED TO PAY 676.23 (HALF OF THE PARTS COST) TO HAVE THEM FIX THE VEHICLE. HE STATED HE WOULD SPEAK WITH CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND GET BACK TO ME. 7/6/2020 ' I CALLED [XXX] TO GET AN UPDATE. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V122000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: SWITCHES: BRAKE LIGHT). THE VIN WAS INELIGIBLE UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

I OWN A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. IT SEEMS THAT THE BRAKES ACT FUNNY (DON'T WORK RIGHT/LONGER STOP TIME) WHENEVER IT IS WET OR COLD OUT. I HAVE HAD WORK DONE ON IT BY THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE FROZE UP AND ONLY HALF WORKING. THEY WANTED $45 TO CLEAN THEM FOR ME. INSTEAD I HAD MY NORMAL MECHANIC DO THE CLEANING WHEN HE REPLACED MY REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. HE DID THE CLEANING FOR FREE. ABOUT A MONTH LATER ON MY WAY HOME, DRIVING THROUGH THE RAIN I CAME UP TO A STOP LIGHT WITH 3 OR 4 VEHICLES STOPPED AT IT, I PRESSED THE BRAKE WITH ABOUT FIFTY FEET BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THEIRS TRAVELING AT 45 MPH AND THE CAR DIDN'T SLOW DOWN AT ALL. I USED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN BUT STILL HIT A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. NO ONE WAS HURT. I CAN'T SAY THE SAME FOR MY CAR... IT HIT AN SUV. THE SUV HAD MINOR DAMAGE BUT MY CAR'S FRONT END WAS DESTROYED, AND THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO MY MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS AND TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED AND THE BRAKES WERE STICKING A LITTLE BUT ALL HE COULD FIGURE OUT IS THAT THE CALIPERS NEED MORE CLEARANCE. THE BRAKES WORKED FOR HIM WITH NO FIXING BUT HE ALSO DROVE IT IN FAIR/SUNNY WEATHER. TO SUM UP THE INFORMATION I DO REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON MY VEHICLE. THE BRAKES HARDLY, IF AT ALL WORK IN COLD AND WET WEATHER. AND NOTHING IS REALLY BEING DONE EVEN AFTER I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE ISSUE. WHEN I SPOKE TO THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP HE SAID IT WAS COMMON FOR THIS CAR TO HAVE BRAKES FREEZE UP DUE TO RUST BUILDUP AND OFFERED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THEM CLEANED (ONCE AGAIN FOR $45) THERE IS ALSO A PART AVAILABLE FOR EXTRA MONEY OF COARSE THAT IS A NEW CALIPER SLIDE ASSEMBLY WITH ADDITIONAL CLEARANCE. 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA - 20,700 MILES FAILED SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO SEVERE BRAKE RUST. *TR

AT APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES, THE REAR BRAKE DISINTEGRATED DUE TO DRAGGING AND I WAS INFORMED IT WAS MY DRIVING. ONLY ONE REAR BRAKE MALFUNCTIONED IN THIS WAY, HOWEVER ALL ROTORS HAD TO BE "TURNED DOWN" AND NEW BRAKES WERE INSTALLED ALL AROUND EVEN THOUGH ALL OTHER 3 PADS WERE LIKE NEW. AT 72,000 THE FRONT BRAKE DID THE EXACT SAME THING AND THE REAR BRAKE WAS CLOSE TO BEING DETRIMENTAL TO THE ROTOR. THE FRONT ROTORS COULD NOT BE "TURNED-DOWN" AGAIN, SO NEW ROTORS WERE APPLIED. THIS PARTICULAR MECHANIC, AT A WELL KNOW FACILITY INFORMED ME THAT HYUNDAI'S ARE NOTORIOUS FOR WEARING OUT BRAKES AND THEY SEE THIS CONTINUED PROBLEM. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE HYUNDAI DEALER IS QUITE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. I AM NOW ON A "WATCH" AT THIS MECHANIC'S SHOP TO KEEP FROM HAVING YET ANOTHER BRAKE ISSUE. SOMETHING CAUSES THE BRAKES TO DRAG AND WEAR QUICKLY AND NOT ALWAYS THE SAME BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDDLE, AFTER THE FIRST HYUNDAI SERVICE, WENT TO FLOOR AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SONATA IS DESIGNED FOR THE "OLDER" CUSTOMER WHOSE REACTION TIME IS SLOWER AND MORE UNSTEADY, THEREFORE THE BRAKING IS LONGER AND SOFTER. Severely rusted out and corroded front subframe, only noticed it on accident very recently, and my car is the last year of a generation that was recalled for this very issue within the Salt Belt- I live right at the bottom outskirts of the Salt Belt in NKY, and my car is the only year not recalled for subframe corrosion. It's bad and I'm freaked out and can't afford it unless I figure out how to do it myself without prematurely dying due to a dropped engine or something similar (premature because if I don't get it fixed soon I reckon that fate isn't too far off)

Upon inspecting the undercarriage of my vehicle found the right side of Front Subframe Cradle Suspension rotted almost completely through. When researching for issues pertaining to this model found a TSA was issued , after a lawsuit in California, for the years prior and after my vehicle. The damage is concurrent with the TSA bulletin but excluded. How does a manufacturer whom obviously is aware of an ongoing issue allow so many people, families and children, drive and risk their lives on our public roadways. Is their a subclass recall that will aid those like myself take corrective action.

BOTH THE REAR AND FRONT SUBFRAME HAVE HOLES FROM RUST WHICH HAS STARTED TO CAUSE NUMEROUS OTHER ISSUES SUCH HAS BALL JOINTS TIE ROD ENDS

WHILE CHANGING MY OIL ON THE WEEKEND, I NOTICED SEVERE CORROSION FAILURES WITH THE FRONT SUBFRAME ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY CAR. (SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS). ONE AREA WAS IN FRONT OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND ANOTHER AREA IS BEHIND THE CONTROL ARM. IT LOOKS LIKE THE SUBFRAME WILL FAIL AT ANY MOMENT AND THE CONTROL ARM WOULD BE FREE TO MOVE ANYWHERE. THIS WOULD SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I SEE THIS PART HAS ALREADY HAD A RECALL FOR 2001 TO 2004 HYUNDAI SONATAS WHICH IS THE SAME BODY AND FRAME STYLE AS THE 2005 VEHICLE. RECALL #09V124000.

COMPLAINT INVOLVES PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN TO AT LEAST 4 DIFFERENT PLACES TO ATTEMPT GET THIS DIAGNOSED- THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON OVER 5 MONTHS. CAR HAS BEEN EXCELLENT UNTIL THE PAST FEW MONTHS. ENGINE IS FINE. WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT WHEN YOU DRIVE THE VEHICLE THERE IS SOME KIND OF SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THE CAR TURNS OFF. NO WARMING. WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT- AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENS THE CAR GOES COMPLETELY DARK. SOMETIMES YOU CAN SORT OF GLIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SOMETIMES THE SHORT HAPPENS AND THEN WHATEVER IS NOT WORKING WILL RECONNECT AND THE CAR WILL NOT TOTALLY SHUT OFF. IT IS VERY DISTURBING AND FRIGHTENING. SOMETIMES MY CAR COMPLETELY DIES IN TRAFFIC- IT MIGHT BE DEAD FOR 20 OR SO MINUTES AND THEN WILL ALL OF SUDDEN RESTART AND I CAN MAKE IT HOME. I HAVE BEEN TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC WHO HAS TAKEN CARE OF THIS CAR FOR YEARS HE WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE IT. TOOK TO A HYUNDAI GARAGE/ DEALERSHIP HAVE BEEN THERE 3 TIMES- THEY ARE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THIS WEEK TOOK IT TO ANOTHER GARAGE THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THIS. I LOVE MY CAR BUT FEEL VERY UNSAFE. I NO LONGER DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE BECAUSE I FEEL SO UNSAFE. IF THERE IS ANY HELP OR DIRECTION YOU CAN GIVE TO HELP DIAGNOSE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IN SONATAS IT WOULD BE WELCOME. THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN MY AUTO, WHICH MANIFEST ITSELF WHEN I SWITCH ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME ON NORMALLY, BUT INSIDE THE CABIN THE DASHBOARD AND ALL THE OTHER LIGHTS WOULD START BLINKING ON/OFF LIKE THE HAZARD LIGHT. THE POWER DOOR LOCKS WOULD ALSO COME UNLOCK AND WHEN I CHECKED ON THE EXTERNAL LIGHTS, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD BE STEADY, BUT THE INDICATOR (AMBER) LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD BE BLINKING. THIS IS THE FIRST DATE THAT I REPORTED TO THE DEALER THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. SINCE THAT TIME, THE LIGHT HAS GONE OFF AND COME BACK ON A MANY TIMES. IT WAS CHECKED AGAIN BY THE DEALER AND ALSO BY A LOCAL, CERTIFIED MECHANIC. IT USUALLY STAYS OFF FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS, BUT COMES BACK ON. IT IS NOW ON AGAIN. IN ADDITION, I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE DOOR JAM SWITCH IN JAN. 2014. THE DOOR CHIMES (SEATBELT SOUND) GOES OFF RANDOMLY. NOW, THIS SOUND IS BACK. YOUR PROBE INTO THE HYUNDAI SONATA AIRBAG ISSUE SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO EARLIER MODELS AS WE HAVE A 2005 AND WHAT YOU ARE INITIALLY EXPLAINING AFFECTS OUR VEHICLE ALSO. WE HAVE HAD THE AIRBAG LIGHT RESET A FEW TIMES BY THE DEALER (ZIMBRIK HYUNDAI IN MADISON, WI). THEY INITIALLY STATED THAT IT WAS JUST A WIRE UNDER THE SEAT THAT NEEDED TO BE REATTACHED. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHUTTING OFF OR STALLING AFTER FILLING IT UP WITH GAS. IT BEGAN OVER A YEAR AGO WITH SPORADIC INCIDENTS AND HAS PROGRESSED TO OCCURRING EVERY TIME I PUT GAS IN MY CAR. THE FIRST HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT MY CAR. I WAS EXITING A GAS STATION AFTER FILLING UP. AS I REACHED THE MAIN STREET AND WAS PULLING OUT ONTO THE ROAD, MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND BEGAN ROLLING INTO THE BUSY ROAD. I TURNED IT OFF, THEN ON AND IT BEGAN RUNNING AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED 5 MORE TIMES OVER THE SPAN OF 1YR 4 MOS, EACH TIME ONLY AFTER I PUT GAS IN MY CAR. IT HAS NOW PROGRESSED TO NOT STARTING AT ALL AFTER I PUT GAS IN MY CAR. THE NEXT TIME, I DIDN'T FILL UP ALL THE WAY BUT PUT IN 1/4 TANK OF GAS. ONCE AGAIN, MY CAR DID NOT START FOR AROUND 25 MINUTES. THAT DAY, I PAID $65 TO HAVE MY CAR LOOKED AT BY HYUNDAI AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED APPROXIMATELY $845 WORTH OF REPAIRS/REPLACEMENTS OF MY CANISTER, CANISTER VALVE, PURGE VALVE, AND MY IDLE CONTROL VENT VALVE (NOT INCLUDING THE $219 LABOR FEE NECESSARY IF CHARCOAL BITS HAVE GOTTEN INTO MY GAS TANK). I HAVE EVER HEARD OF ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS, MUCH LESS BELIEVE THAT IT SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONSUMER TO REPAIR A COMMONPLACE PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI CARS. I HAVEN'T HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STARTING SINCE, HOWEVER THE VIBRATION IS GETTING WORSE, THE CAR STILL DOES NOT SHUT OFF IMMEDIATELY, AND NOW IT REVS TO THE POINT THAT THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS TRYING TO PULL OFF BEFORE I TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHILE DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN THE ENGINE BEGIN MISSING AND SLOWING DOWN. BECAUSE OF THE RAIN TRAFFIC WAS RUNNING AT ABOUT 25 MPH. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND I DRIFTED ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY (I 95). AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS THE ENGINE RESTARTED , BUT WAS STILL MISSING BADLY I COULD ONLY GET TO APPROX. 20MPH. EACH TIME I STOPPED THE ENGINE WOULD STOP. USING THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. THE NEXT MORNING I TRIED TO START THE CAR BUT IT WOULD NOT. I OPEN THE HOOD JUST TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING VISIBLY WRONG. I CHECKED THE AIR FILTER AND FIND THAT IT WAS FULL OF WATER. My car's engine cradle, cross member or subframe is rusted out and the OEM replacement for my VIN number won't fit it correctly I'm getting really upset because this could be dangerous for me and my two young kids. I've already paid the mechanic $600 for the replacement part when it really only costs $450 at the most and the two he has ordered before have both been either too big and it says that it is the correct replacement part. What is going on?!!! If something isn't fixed soon and something happens to me or my kids there is going to be a lawsuit.

MY HYUNDAI SONATA 2005 IS VERY UNSAFE! THE WHOLE FRAME OF THE CAR IS ROTTED OUT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND MY TIRE BLEW! A NICE MAN DRIVE OFF FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF HIGHWAY CAME AROUND TO PUT A SPARE ON. I TOOK THE CAR GOT A NEW TIRE AND ALIGNMENT. "TAKATA RECALL" I THOUGHT I NEEDED A NEW INNER TIE ROD ON MY 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN I WENT TO THE SHOP THE MECHANIC TOLD ME YOU HAVE BIGGER PROBLEMS. " YOUR SUB-FRAME ON THIS CAR IS RUSTED OUT AND THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE." WITH THAT INFORMATION, I CALLED THE HYUNDAI SUPPORT NUMBER, THEY GAVE ME A REFERENCE NUMBER, I THEN WENT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO GET AN ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS AND TO SEE IF HYUNDAI WOULD REPAIR THE SUBFRAME. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT HYUNDAI CORPORATION REFUSED TO PAY ANY GOODWILL MONEY TO FIX THE CAR BUT THEY DID TELL ME, " OUR ADVICE: " IS TO NOT DRIVE THE CAR, IT IS UNSAFE." THIS IS NOT A MECHANICAL ISSUE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT FIND ANY RECALLS FOR 2005 SUBFRAME, IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT HYUNDAI KNEW THEY DID HAVE A SLEW OF SONATAS THAT HAD A SERIOUS SUBFRAME CORROSION PROBLEM. IN MY BIT OF RESEARCH, THERE HAS BEEN A DEFINITE PROBLEM WITH THE SONATAS AND THE SUBFRAME ROTTING OUT, ALL DIFFERENT YEARS AND MILEAGE AND AGE THAT HYUNDAI DID REPAIR THE CARS THAT I FOUND ON EDMONDS.COM AND ON THE INTERNET.

I OWN A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY BECAME HARD TO CONTROL, AS IN IT STARTED PULLING EXTREMELY HARD TO THE RIGHT. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE STEERING WHEEL COCKED TO THE LEFT IN ORDER TO GO STRAIGHT. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE SHOP THINKING IT NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT - BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE TILTED IN AT THE TOP - WHAT I FOUND OUT WAS THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED IN HALF. IT SEEMS VERY SHADY TO ME THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM FOR PRETTY MUCH EVERY YEAR EXCEPT 2005. THIS IS THE SAME MODEL AS THE 2004 AND IT WAS MANUFACTURED THAT YEAR AS WELL. *ALSO, THE TRIM ON THE CAR, WHICH IS WHAT MAKES IT MORE EXPENSIVE, IS CONSTANTLY COMING OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING. THE SILVER TRIM AROUND THE PASSENGER WINDOW FLEW OFF ON THE TOLLWAY. THE DRIVER'S WINDOW TRIM CAME OFF DUE TO ICE - IT WAS REPLACED BY A BODY SHOP, BUT LATER FLEW OFF ON THE TOLLWAY AS WELL. THE TRIM ON ALL FOUR DOORS IS NOW BOLTED ON AS THAT KEPT FALLING OFF TOO. *ALSO, THERE IS SIGNIFICANT RUST RIGHT ABOVE THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD TO THE POINT THAT IT WILL SOON BE RAINING IN MY CAR.

CHECKED RIGHT FRONT TIRE, IT ALSO HAD THE COVER PRESSING AGAINST THE VALVE STEM. ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT LEAKING. TWO REAR TIRES WERE OKAY. I ASSUMED THE MECHANIC HAD INSTALLED THE FRONT COVERS IMPROPERLY. 12 JUNE 2015- PUT SPARE ON LEFT FRONT AND DROVE TO THE GARAGE, HAD THE MECHANIC WHO INSTALLED THE TIRES CHECK OUT WHAT HAPPENED. HE WAS NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. HE REPLACED ALL THE VALVE STEMS AND CORRECTLY REINSTALLED THE WHEEL COVERS.ALL SEEMED WELL. 13 JUNE 2015- WIFE AND DAUGHTER DEPARTED ON TRIP TO MAINE VIA INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. ON NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERSTATE THEY HAD THE LEFT FRONT TIRE GO FLAT AND THE RIGHT FRONT BEGAN LEAKING AT 65MPH. UNABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER, THEY CONTINUED ON TO A SAFE AREA, LEFT FRONT TIRE AND RIM DESTROYED. THEY CALLED AAA AND WERE TOWED 91 MILES TO THEIR DESTINATION. THE AAA MECHANIC IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE WHEEL COVER SHIFTING, ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS, PRESSING THE VALVE STEMS OVER AND CUTTING INTO THEM. THEY ARE NOW HOPING TO FIND A PLACE WHICH CAN REPLACE THE TIRE AND RIM ON A WEEKEND. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO RETURN MONDAY WHICH NOW LOOKS DOUBTFUL. CHECKING ON LINE, I FOUND THIS HAS BEEN A REPORTED PROBLEM BEFORE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, THEY ARE LUCKY THEY DID NOT CRASH. WITH FAMILY IN CAR A TRAFFIC SITUATION OCCURRED THAT REQUIRED AGGRESSIVE BRAKING. WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR NOSE-DIVED, & SWUNG STRONGLY TO THE LEFT. THE SITUATION WAS VERY SCARY & I REGAINED CONTROL. FORTUNATELY NO CAR WAS IN THE NEARBY LANE. TOOK THE CAR INTO FIRESTONE WHERE AMONG OTHER THINGS THEIR CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC DID A FULL BRAKE INSPECTION, CHECKED THE TIRES FOR SIZE AND PRESSURE & DID A BRAKE FLUID FLUSH. THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AN ABS PROBLEM & I SHOULD IMMEDIATELY TAKE THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM! I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN DENTON, TX WHO RAN EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC'S AND SAID THE ABS CONTROL MODULE (589203C500) SYSTEM HAD MALFUNCTIONED, WAS DEFECTIVE FINDING ONLY FLUID FLOW TO THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE CA. THE DEALER QUOTED APPROX. $2500 FOR MATERIALS, TAX AND LABOR SAYING THERE WAS NO WARRANT COVERAGE. WE WERE SHOCKED BY BOTH THE COST TO FIX AND THAT AN APPARENT MANUFACTURING DEFECT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. AT THE DEALER 10/01/2012, I CALLED HYUNDAI MOTORS USA & FILED CASE #5034644. AFTER QUITE SOME TIME ON THE PHONE THE CASE MANAGER SAID THERE WAS NO WARRANTY COVERAGE, THEY FELT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECT AND ESSENTIALLY THAT IT WAS ALL ON ME TO FIX IT. THE 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS HAS SEVERAL PROBLEMS THAT SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY AND RECALLED, CLOSE TO THE 2006 RECALLS. WE OWN A COMPANY AND HAVE PURCHASED OVER 12 TO 14 HYUNDAIS. WE HAVE FOUND THAT THE SONATA GLS 2005 HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, SEATBELT RESTRAINT, THE FRONT TIRES ARE CLOSER TO THE BACK & NOT CENTERED ON THE WHEEL WELL (HAS BEEN THIS WAY SINCE PURCHASED, BUT THEY DO NOT CORRECT.), HAVE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS & THAT UNIBODY TYPE FRAME & SO ON. IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE A TRUCK LEFT THE TAIL GATE DOWN & A LADDER HIT THE WINDSHIELD, THE CAR WAS THEN PARKED, TURNED OFF , THE KEYS TAKING OUT OF THE IGNITION & THEN BEGAN LOOKING FOR THE CELL PHONE THEN PROCEEDED TO OPEN THE DOOR TO GET OUT INFER ALL THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHICH ALSO CAUSED THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT BELT TO LOCK UP & CAN NOT BE PULLED OUT TO WEAR. HYUNDAI STATES THAT THIS IS NOT WARRANTED EVEN THOUGH IT WAS DEPLOYED AFTER THE ACCIDENT OCCURED. HYUNDAI HAD A GREAT WARRANTY 10 YEARS AGO. I PURCHASED A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA NEW ON 2/18/05 AND THE DEALER, PAAR HYUNDAI IN BREMERTON. ON AUGUST 16, 2007, I HAD MY CAR MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERS LOCATION IN BREMERTON. THEY SUGGESTED I PURCHASE NEW TIRES. I HAVE 46,000+ MILES ON THE CAR. I HAD A LOCAL TIRE DEALERSHIP, LES SCHWAB IN POULSBO, PUT NEW TIRES ON THE CAR. IN DOING SO, THREE OF THE SMALL HUBCAPS WERE DAMAGED. DESPITE BEING CAREFUL IN REINSTALLING THE HUBCAPS, SEVERAL OF THE PLASTIC RETAINERS BROKE OFF. LES SCHWAB WILL NOT PAY FOR THE DAMAGE, CLAIMING THAT THIS OFTEN HAPPENS WITH CERTAIN HYUNDAI AND NISSAN HUBCAPS. THE HYUNDAI DEALER WILL NOT PAY EITHER AND CLAIMS THEY HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE. THIS IS DOUBTFUL. I RETAINED THE HUBCAPS. THE PLASTIC TABS THAT HOLD THE HUBCAPS ARE VERY WEEK, I CAN EASILY BREAK THEM OFF, AND THEY SHOW SIGNS OF WEAR AND TEAR AND FATIGUE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE HUBCAPS ARE MANUFACTURED USING VERY POOR MATERIALS AND COULD COME LOOSE. EVEN THOUGH FAIRLY SMALL, A HUB CAP FLYING OFF A CAR AT 60-70 MILES PER HOUR COULD EASILY SMASH A WINDSHIELD OR KNOCK A CYCLIST OFF HIS/HER MOTOR CYCLE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN IT RAINS, WATER ENTERS INTO THE VEHICLE AND COLLECTS ON THE STEP PLATES. AS A RESULT, THE SCREWS HAVE RUSTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PAINT HAS REMOVED FROM HER VEHICLE IN THREE DIFFERENT PLACES. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL COVER HAS DETACHED AND HER DOOR IS EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL FAILURE. IF SOMEONE WERE TO LEAN AGAINST THE DOOR, ALL OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER HAD TO CHANGE THE SWITCH INSIDE THE DOOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HOOD SMASHES THE HEADLIGHTS AND ALSO CONTAINS A GAP. THE VEHICLE FAILS TO START INTERMITTENTLY AND THE TURN SIGNALS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATE DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHY ALL OF THE FAILURES ARE OCCURRING. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHICH IDENTIFIED CAUSE CODE #15 AND REPLACED THE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY, WIRE REPAIR TIME (MAJOR), COIL ASSEMBLY, IGNITION COIL ADD SCAN TOOL OPERATIONS. EXPERIENCED VIBRATION ON 12/9/05 TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP IN CLEVELAND TENNESSEE, THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG, BUT THEY THOUGHT THAT THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE MOTOR IN CAR NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED. TOOK CAR BACK 3 DAYS LATER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM VIBRATION, THEY SAID THAT THE BOLTS NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED AGAIN. TOOK THE CAR BACK ON THREE OTHER OCCASIONS AND THEY CONTINUED TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE ENGINE IN THE CAR. FINALLY A REPRESENTATIVE WAS CALLED IN TO LOOK AT THE CAR HE HAD ME TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE CAR TO HAVE A VIBRATION WHEN SITTING STILL AND THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAVE A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA, BOUGHT NEW. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MOVES FORWARD AND BACKWARD ON ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. IT IS MORE PRONOUNCED ON BRAKING. THE SEAT SLIDES ABOUT 4 INCHES FORWARD WITH BRAKING OVER 25 MPH. I TOOK IT TO GANLEY HYUNDAI ON BROOKPARK ROAD IN PARMA OHIO FOR REPAIRS. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT WAS FIXED, BUT IT STILL SLIDES. IF THE MANAGER SAYS IT IS FIXED, AND IT STILL MOVES, TO ME THIS MEANS IT IS UNREPAIRABLE. ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THE CAR IS THE REAR VIEW MIRROR BLOCKS OUT ENTIRE CARS FROM VIEW. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SUSPENSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED BEFORE IMPACT.
