The vehicle experienced a sudden engine failure and loss of power while traveling at freeway speed. Two days earlier, the vehicle had been taken to an authorized dealership for factory recall service. During that visit, concerns were raised about known engine issues associated with this model, but the vehicle was returned to service. While driving on the freeway, the engine abruptly stalled without warning, causing immediate loss of propulsion and power. This created a dangerous situation in moving traffic, requiring rapid maneuvering to avoid a collision and safely exit traffic lanes. The vehicle became inoperable and could not be restarted. The failed component appears to be the engine or related internal engine system. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership following the incident and has remained inoperable since that time. The vehicle is currently available for inspection. The failure placed the driver at significant risk due to the sudden loss of power at highway speed. No collision occurred, but the risk of serious injury or death was present. The problem has not been reproduced because the vehicle has remained disabled since the incident. The dealership and manufacturer have inspected the vehicle after the failure. The manufacturer is reviewing the incident under an internal process. There were no prior warning lights, messages, or symptoms indicating imminent engine failure before the stall. The failure occurred suddenly and without advance notice.

My 2014 Hyundai Sonata experienced a P1326 engine fault code, which activates the knock sensor system due to engine bearing wear. This condition is directly related to Hyundai’s safety recall 17V226 (Theta II engine). The Hyundai dealership submitted my case to Hyundai corporate, and Hyundai denied the repair solely because my vehicle has over 150,000 miles. A manufacturer cannot refuse a federal recall repair due to mileage, and Hyundai’s engine recall has no mileage or time limit. The denial places me in an unsafe situation, as the recall defect can cause engine seizure or stalling while driving. I am requesting NHTSA intervention.

While driving at approximately 70MPH on the highway, my 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited suddenly locked up with no warning lights, no noise and no prior symptoms. The engine completely seized, causing immediate loss of power. I was barely able to coast off the highway exit to a final stop on the feeder shoulder, in a desolate area. The vehicle has always been properly maintained and is in excellent condition. Upon research, I learned that Hyundai has known of internal engine defects caused by metallic debris left from manufacturing since 2010, which can cause bearing failure and engine seizure. My Tucson's failure matches the same pattern described in Hyundai's Theta II engine recall and warranty extension campaigns. This sudden failure created an extremely dangerous situation at highway speed and possibility of injury while being stranded on an open road. Many owners, myself included, were never properly notified of the risks. I am filing this report because this incident represents a serious safety defect and potential recurrence among similar vehicles that may not yet be covered by recall. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue and ensure Hyundai expands its recall and warranty coverage to include affected 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited vehicles exhibiting this defect that was well-known to the Hyundai Corporation. Date of Incident: October 23,2025 in Houston Texas. Vehicle towed to Hyundai dealer which diagnosed Engine Seized and currently awaiting Warranty Extension Approval (TXXC/TXXI)

This motor had a recall. Campaign t3g- sonata yfa 2.4L Theta II. 1 month after an oil change at the mechanic the car started making noises. Took it right to the mechanic who said there was no oil and that there was a recall on this motor for this reason. Immediately took it to the Hyundai dealership located in centereach NY. The employee who helped us was not a help. Took days and days to even get the paperwork In for the recall. Did not communicate with us unless we called him. Then eventually just said it was denied. Took weeks to get the proof from them. Completely frustrating. We submitted all proof of oil changes and maintenance and it was denied saying engine neglect! We are struggling to keep up with bills and now cannot get to work because of this. We have 2 toddlers and he is a volunteer firefighter and EMT in Centereach. He works full time at Stony Brook Hospital and is in school full time with rotations in the hospital for paramedic class. This is insane to be treated this way

CAR MAKING LOUD NOISE UNDER THE CAR HOOD LIKE SOMETHING FALLING APART UNDER THE HOOD, A MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE ENGINE , I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS CAR ENGINE. HYUNDAI DID MY 90,000 MILE INSPECTION ON JULY 19, 2025, AT THE TIME THE WORK WAS DONE I ONLY HAD 87238.

The turn signal stem assembly randomly begins failing after several years (approx 5 years). Issues will be noticed while driving in the dark. When turn signal is applied in both directions, occasionally headlights will turn off or flash causing interior lighting to change to brighter daylight settings at the same time. This can be disorienting for the driver as well as others on the road. To remedy the incorrect lighting situation, the driver needs to jiggle the turn signal stem assembly and normal lighting will resume. At subsequent turns, the entire situation repeats itself. Other drivers may believe they are being alerted to something or potentially angered, causing misunderstandings or altercations on the road. My original turn signal stem assembly was replaced after about 5 years due to this series of events. Now, after approximately 5 more years, the exact same symptoms have begun again with the authentic Hyundai OEM replacement parts.

Right brake light assembly melting around lightbulb and right brake light not working due to the burn. I went to multiple used auto parts store to try and buy the right brake assembly and noted multiple cars from 2011-2014 had the same issue.

When head lights are in Auto mode occasionally all of the exterior and interior lights go out. Including dash lights. I cannot make it repeat at will so nothing ever gets done with it. There is no warning when it happens just complete darkness inside and out. Obviously I can’t see where I’m going when it happens they typically come back on after a few seconds. This has been happening for over 1 year. I don’t use the lights in auto anymore, it doesn’t happen when it’s not in auto.

Steering wheel issue. It jolts and shakes around when going over bumps or when parking the vehicle and steering the vehicle to a parked position, you can feel the steering shake around. Had it inspected locally and was told to take it to a dealership for a steering column issue. Feels unsafe to take on longer drives or for too long on the highway.

Just recently my 2014 Hyundai Sonata started making a clicking noise when it goes over 35MPH I've had it inspected by two shops and they do not know where it's coming from. Less than a week later my car died while I was driving with my two children and the smell of burnt something was coming from inside the vehicle it seemed. The car only flashed the check engine light before it stalled. I do regular maintenance

Electrical system going out only at night because headlights and inside lights are turning off for a few seconds only while driving at night this has happened multiple times since august and is becoming a safety concern while driving at night it's a safety concern because this has happened incoming traffic on roads and highways. The vehicle hasn't been inspected by dealership I tried calling to get an appointment but was told there is a fee and if something electrical a may have a cost per hour to inspect. No warning lights are turning on prior to headlights and inside lights going out. During the day no issues with vehicle. I've read a few online posts from other owners with same issue.

The contact stated that the interior housing unit for both the left and right rear taillights had begun to melt which caused the defect. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was initially informed that the vehicle would be serviced under warranty; however, the contact was recently informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The vehicle had yet to be serviced. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

Faulty lights: flickering off and on while driving at night, park light fail to come on but break lights work, unable to use the lights in “auto” mode or else they flicker. Flickering with left front turn signal. There are multiple complaints about this issue on YouTube and when you Google the car and check reviews. This issue puts my life, my children’s lives, and so many others lives in danger.

Having to replace headlights and brake lates every month, now rear passenger side light is completely out and will not come on after changing all bulbs and fuses, see this as a major safety issue, there are many complaints about this same issue and Hyundai is ignoring this safety issue

My family purchased the vehicle as a gift to me in 2018. It had 17,000 miles on it and was previously owned by an older woman who hardly used it, according to the salesman at North Freeway Hyundai in Spring, TX. In 2019, the AC compressor failed in the middle of summer. In Texas, being in a car with no AC in the summertime can and has been deadly. I had the part replaced at the same dealership as mentioned above. The part began to fail again at the end of 2024. When doing research on the issue, it came to my attention that this is a known issue pertaining to my vehicle, and that Hyundai is aware. Again, particularly in the south, this IS a safety hazard. Hyundai confirms that a couple different issues with the car can cause a “premature failure” of the compressor. I’ve replaced it once before and it’s incredibly expensive, and I don’t think it should already be failing again, and it sounds like Hyundai agrees with me. The logical thing to do here is to issue a recall on the part, which would allow myself and others with this issue to get it fixed at no cost. I can’t afford a major repair like this, as I just recently replaced the catalytic converter and o2 sensors as well. This cost should not be placed on the consumer when Hyundai is seemingly aware there is an issue.

The entire dashboard is cracking and has caused the airbag light warning light to come on, due to the compromised dashboard. This makes me feel unsafe because I'm not sure if the airbag will launch prematurely. I see online that many Hyundai owners have experienced this same issue and have the same concerns.

I was driving at approx 30mph and all of a sudden I get a warning on my dashboard that says "Hybrid System Warning - Check brakes- safely stop and do not drive". My car slowed down and the brakes went to the floor. I was able to coast it to the side and turn off my car. I waited a few minutes, turned it back on and it was fine. The same thing happened 3 months ago. I took it to the dealer the first time it happened and they replaced the 12v battery and cleared all the codes. They couldn't find out exactly what was wrong. Suggestion was if it continues, then replace the hydraulic module for over $5k. It did happen again, but didn't take it to the dealer, but to a local mechanic. They checked the brakes and are fine. The codes were the same and said it might be the Hydraulic Booster High Pressure Accumulator (HPA). I was reading the Hyundai forum and this seems to happen to many Hyundai hybrids. I'm concerned for my safety and the safety of others if I was driving on the freeway and the same thing happens. There's no advance warning. I could cause an accident because of it. Seems that Hyundai needs to issue a recall on the hydraulic module and replace it.

The High-Voltage (HV) Hybrid Battery Pack Assembly failed, resulting in a system shutdown and the required replacement. The primary code is DTC P0A80 ("Replace Hybrid Battery Pack"), which indicates an internal manufacturing or design flaw, specifically a weak battery module or compromised internal connection, not normal wear. The defective component (the high-voltage battery) is currently at and is available for inspection. The entire vehicle is also compromised by the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module defect (NHTSA Recall 23V-651000). My safety was put at risk in two primary ways: 1. Immediate Loss of Power: The hybrid system failure resulted in a loss of drivetrain power, rendering the vehicle nearly immobile. This occurred on at approximately mph, placing me at high risk of a collision. 2. Latent Fire Risk: My vehicle is covered under the NHTSA ID 23V-651000 fire risk recall due to the ABS module. Hyundai specifically advised owners of these vehicles to "park their vehicles outside and away from structures" until the remedy is complete, confirming the severity of the latent fire hazard. The failure of the secondary HV battery system occurred within this already dangerous, electrically unstable environment. Yes, the vehicle was inspected by the Hyundai dealership / independent shop at the time of failure.. The manufacturer's corporate division has been contacted and is aware of the defect and the resulting $10,000 replacement estimate, as they offered a 50% "goodwill" subsidy which I am rejecting, asserting 100% coverage is required for a defect. Yes. The primary preceding warning was the intermittent appearance of the "Check Hybrid System, Turn off engine" warning.

While driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was shaking and jumping, with the headlights flickering, and the steering wheel lost resistance, and became easier to maneuver. While turning the vehicle either to the left or the right, there was a vibrating sound coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. After the sound occurred, the contact noticed that after turning off the vehicle and then attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact manually moved the serpentine belt first to successfully start the vehicle. The exterior lights failed to illuminate intermittently. The air bag and battery failure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); and the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the engine was replaced. After having the recall repair completed, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, who then diagnosed the battery was malfunctioning due to a loosened terminal. The terminal was tightened up however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who tightened the terminal; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to another certified mechanic who placed an aluminum piece to assist with securing the terminal. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.

When I am driving with my headlights on auto, every time I use my turn signal (and sometimes spontaneously) my headlights flicker. Sometimes it’s just for a second, but other times it has lasted more than 3 seconds which can be very dangerous while driving at night. It is also dangerous because other drivers may think I’m flashing my brights at them when im not. During this the dash will flicker as well. This has been happening since I got the car in 2018 so it’s not a battery issue.

ABS control unit/pump is leaking. I was told it's not covered under warranty or recall. Local mechanic states they can't repair it because the part has to be properly programed at the dealership. I've spoken with other Hyundai owners and they have had the same issue.

Lost all braking ability while driving. Had towed to a shop and they were finally able to recreate the issue. There are no error codes indicated when they hook up to a computer. Have bled brakes and still not fixed. They are telling me they've done all they can do.

Received recall notice on 4-16-24 and immediately called for an appt to repair ABS problem. I was told that the part was not available at this time and should call back in a couple of weeks. I called on May 2, 2024 and scheduled an appt. for May 7. After waiting for over an hour, I was told that, yes indeed, my car needed repair but could not be done at that time as this was only an inspection to determine that a repair was needed and someone would call when the part is available but they don't know when. I feel like I was given a run around.

I have a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, when I get in and press the brake pedal it is hard to push in and the car won't start till I try to pump the break pedal hard several times till it gives just a bit, then I can start the car up. I know there was a recall for the 2011 and 2012 cars, this report mimics the issue those cars have had a recall for. Once the car starts the brake pedal does work normally, till it sits and then it gets hard to push in again. I took the car to the dealer to be looked at and they wanted to keep it for a week before anyone would look at it, with $200 to start . I couldn't be without a car for that long so they didn't keep it.There were no warning lights and never have been. My fear is that the brakes will fail while driving..

My vehicle stopped on the side of the road in oncoming traffic and caused a back up because of my power brake system failing when it should have still been in good condition because I had just purchased my vehicle 7 months ago. The brake light came on made my car slow all the way down doesn’t go over 15 mph and has a skidding sound when braking and it happened again in the street away from home. And this has been seen in multiple vehicles such as the one I have.

Vehicle's engine seized completely at 75 MPH on the interstate. No warning lights or abnormal noises were present before catastrophic failure, and the car has been serviced recently. CEL came on at time of failure, throws code P1326. Car rapidly/dangerously decelerated, would have crashed if not driving in the Leftmost lane of travel.

The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V121000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE), however, the Ford dealer he purchased the vehicle from informed him that she would need to contact a Hyundai dealer to schedule a recall repair appointment. The contact stated while his wife was parking the vehicle in the driveway, the gas pedal was not depressed however the vehicle accelerated on its own and crashed into the garage door. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact sustained injuries on the right knee but did not seek medical assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

THERE HAVE BEEN PREVIOUS RECALLS FOR HYUNDAI VEHICLES REGARDING THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH/TRANSMISSION RANGE INHIBITOR FAILING TO WORK PROPERLY, BUT IT APPEARS THAT THIS PROBLEM EXTENDS TO VEHICLES OUTSIDE OF THE PREVIOUS RECALL WINDOW. THE 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA SE EXPERIENCES A SIMILAR DEFECT, AS SEARCHES ONLINE WILL INDICATE A HIGH NUMBER OF FORUM POSTS AND OTHER RESOURCES WHERE DRIVERS OUTLINE THEIR CONCERNS. SPECIFICALLY, ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS, THE CAR WILL FAIL TO DISPLAY A GEAR WHEN STARTING, SHOWING A BLANK SYMBOL ON THE DASH AND NOT ILLUMINATING THE GEAR SHIFT COLUMN. THIS LEAVES THE CAR UNABLE TO BE SHIFTED INTO ANY GEAR. I suspect it may be related to a faulty clock spring or another issue within the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? If the airbag system is not functioning properly, the airbags may not deploy in the event of a collision, putting my life and the safety of passengers at serious risk. This is particularly concerning as this vehicle is used for daily commuting and family travel. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I have not yet had it diagnosed by a dealer or repair shop, but I plan to schedule a diagnostic check soon. The airbag light remains consistently on during vehicle operation, indicating a persistent fault. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, the vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer or any third-party representative. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the airbag warning light illuminated on the dashboard without any prior physical impact or incident. It first appeared approximately [two days ago], and it has remained on continuously since then. Additional Information: I am aware that certain Hyundai Sonatas have been subject to airbag-related recalls, including issues with the clock spring and airbag deployment failures. Given the similarity of symptoms, I would like to know whether my vehicle may be affected by one of these recalls, or if Hyundai will provide inspection and repair support based on this known issue.

Air bag warning has come on due to malfunctioning clockspring. Went to dealership and realized it is not under extended 15 year warranty. Even though, 2011-2013 Sonatas, Elantras, and 2011-2014 HYBRID Sonatas are covered. Being so close in years this is disappointing to learn that the warranty was cut off, although it obviously seems to be an ongoing problem.

After having work done to repair the head gasket and spark plug. I was on mile ~300 after repairs and was nearing to fill up at a gas station, I started losing power and notice the check engine light was on and Gas smell filled the cabin. When I stopped the hood started smoking and there was a fire under the engine cover. My Vin is not listed on the fuel line recalls and I believe this is an oversite as it lists, faulty High Pressure hose can rupture and cause engine fires and that is exactly what happen in my case. I believe this Vin was Overlooked and I need the repairs complete. I have not completed any repairs because I believe this should have been recalled.

My Gasoline Delivery Hose/line/pipe/fitting is leaking near the spark plugs as checked by a Tire Plus mechanic. The car is not safe to drive. Hyundai refused to fix my car under the Campaign 22V312000 that addresses this specific issue. They would not even open the car to see the pipe leaking. I would like to know if my car can be added to the campaign 22V312000.

Check engine light came on with a odb code of P0300. engine started to run rough and mileage dropped substantially. Upon arrival to my home due to safety issues I turned off car and and let it cool. My father read the odb with a code reader and said it smells like gas but we will look at in the daylight. Today upon removing the engine cover and checking the spark plugs we discover stains and residual stains on the ignition coil packs and directly under the low pressure fuel line where it connects to the high pressure fuel pump. it seems the plastic clip/connector is leaking at anout the rate of one substantial drop per 3-5 minute period. this could cause an out of control engine fire. Dealer was contacted and while there are two recalls regarding other 2014 hyndai sonatas for the same exact problem that this vin was not covered by the recall and the repair cost would be 300 for the fuel line plus labor.

NHTSA recall 22V312000 Not implemented by Jerry's Hyundai My vehicle has been at Jerrys Hyundai since Feb 15th 2023 due to a failed engine. I verbally asked to have the recalls done once the engine was replaced and also asked if the recalls were complete before picking up the vehicle. I was told all the recalls would be done once the car was running and I was also told that the recalls have been done. I have scheduled the recall service twice now the first being the end of June 2024. The 2nd one being for July 1st 2024 and I am not getting any response to phone calls, emails etc.

There was the strong smell of gasoline so the vehicle was then parked outside of our garage. We had a scheduled appointment with our independent mechanic to have this looked at. Prior to the appointment, the Check Engine Light came on and was also flashing. The car was performing very poorly at this time. When the gas pedal was applied to accelerate the car sputtered and severely hesitated. We pulled off of the highway to a city street and then a parking lot to call for a tow to our mechanic. Upon inspection he found that a fuel line was leaking. He looked up to see if there were any Hyundai Technical Service Bulletins related to the issue. He found "Fuel Tube Replacement (Recall 227). Due to the recall we contacted the dealer Piazza Hyundai of Limerick (PA). The service representative (Jason) looked at the recall and stated our vehicle was not a part of the production line being recalled. All items in the recall were found on our car. We had our independent mechanic fix the fuel line. Prior to the repair the car was not in a drivable state.

I started my 2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and proceeded out of the garage. Almost immediately out of the garage, a loud high alarm went off and the dashboard read "Electric Motor Warning - Safely pull over and do not drive". My vehicle simultaneously lost any ability to accelerate and slowly tried to get the vehicle into a parking spot in our apartment's driveway. This was not the first time this has happened. This same thing happened earlier this year and required a recall service that I was told to be fixed after being without a vehicle for 3 months!

My passenger side rear door will not open from the outside or the inside. You pull the handle on the outside and nothing happens. You push the door from the inside and nothing even budges (the door lock still works not that there's a use for it right now). This seems to me to be a safety risk for anyone that has to sit in the backseat behind the front passenger seat. If there were an emergency, they would not be able to open the door to get out. I have Googled this and it seems to happen quite frequently in Hyundai cars. It's the door actuator. If this happens a lot, then I think Hyundai needs to take a deeper look into their door actuators. Thank goodness I do not have kids in a car seat because I would be unable to get them in or out on that side of the car. I've never had this happen on any of the Toyotas I've owned.

Car transmission replaced with only 38,000 miles. Car shutters, skip gears, loss of power. Very dangerous especially when pulling out from side road on to main road. Transmission problem starts out as intermittent at first, so you never know when it will happen next. Lots of near misses where I would have been rear ended, due to shifting problems. New Transmission is already starting to shift erratically at times with only 2,000 miles on new rebuilt trans. Cost of repair is 5 to 6,000. Also own 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with the same exact transmission problems. Transmission replaced at 67,000 and now at repair shop for replacement Trans at 124,000 miles. Vin [XXX] . Both of these cars are dangerous to drive. These problems start out intermittently, and if the dealership cannot duplicate the problem, they will not fix anything, hoping to string you along past the warranty period. I tell them to check the fault code history and they tell me that they did not find any error codes. Both these cars also have the defective engine too- but so far my engines are working correctly. Invoices can be provided if needed. Found research shows that there are transmission problems with almost all generations of the Sonata's especially my 2 years - 2012 and 2014. The vehicle suddenly spiked in RPMs, and suffered from a rattling noise. The following day after taking it to a known skilled service location, they advised to contact the dealership due to two open recalls. They found zero oil in the vehicle as well as issues with the valve seals. They then put the blame on the customer and did not acknowledge the engine recall that states clear problems with oil and engine valves resulting in a loss of oil and a failure in monitoring systems. At no time did the oil light show on the dash and there was no oil in the driveway where the vehicle has been parked. They advised us to contact the company for assistance. After doing so, the dealership, and Hyundai themselves have refused to acknowledge the engine issues or repair the car under the two known open recalls. We have spoke with reps from both the dealership and the company an have received no assistance in reclaiming confidence in the vehicle or Hyundai as a whole. This happened in September 2024 and there is no resolution in sight here in December. How a customer can be expected to repair at their own cost during a known recall with a class action lawsuit is ludicrous.

Extremely rough idle when stopped. Trying to accelerate to merge into traffic the my. Car had no power and I almost got creamed ! I had to pull over so other cars could go around me. Several other issues with car like oil every month or so. I had gas pouring from a hose on my engine and when I brought it to dealership they wanted 1100.00 knowing it was a recall. I hope the dealership and Hyundai rot. !

I was driving at a higher rate of speed 50 MPH in the center of 3 laned road no warning or indicator lights were on in my vehicle when the engine without warning blew and stopped working. Again no check engine lights were on no warnings were given. It shut down and would no longer accelerate or drive. We almost caused several accidents as this was a very busy roadway.

I was driving down the road in my 2014 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T, in the car with me was my two young children ages 1 & 2. We were driving normally when the car all of a sudden shut off and died in the middle of the road while ongoing traffic behind me. I was able to come to a safe stop and crank the car back up and move to the side of the road. When I cranked the car back up it began knocking and the engine shaking. I immediately turned the car off and got my children out of the vehicle and we waited for my fiancé and a tow truck. Car has always had oil changes on time in the three years I owned it. Only had 125k miles. Oil was changed 1 week and a half prior to this incident. I only ran it 567 miles before my engine stalled. Thankful I was not rear ended with my babies in the back seat.

i was coming around a bent and accelerated down a straightaway when the car shutdown and all dash lights came on. I had to quickly find a spot to pull over as I was losing momentum and it was hard to brake. I pulled on to the front yard of a residence as there was no road shoulder. The car was smoking and there was a distinct smell coming from it. Some of the car was still out over the road so traffic had to avoid it. There weren't streetlights and it was foggy at night. I used the emergency flashers. There was no warning before the problem took place as far as engine light or warning lights being on. I had the car towed. It is currently at a dealership. Dealership determined engine seizure after diagnosis.

I DROVE INTO A PARKING LOT AND MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ON ME. IT WOULD NOT TURN ON OR START AT ALL. I HAD TO USE MY CAR INSURANCE TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO MY FRIENDS HOUSE BECAUSE THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WAS NOT WITHIN THE TOWING RANGE TO BE COVERED BY MY INSURANCE. I CALLED THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE NEXT DAY, 4/25/19. THE DEALERSHIP CAME AND TOWED MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE INSPECTION, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT I SUFFERED AN ENGINE FAILURE AND THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS PROVIDED WITH A RENTAL CAR, WHICH I CAN USE UNTIL MY CAR IS FIXED, BUT HYUNDAI WILL NEED TO SEND THEM A NEW ENGINE SO THEY DONT KNOW YET WHEN THE CAR WILL BE FIXED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE HOSES, GASKETS; ANYTHING THAT WASN'T EITHER A BLACK SURFACE OR METAL BECAUSE THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THOSE. THE ESTIMATE FOR ME TO PAY WOULD BE AROUND $300. ALSO, DURING THE INSPECTION FOR THE ENGINE, I WAS TOLD THE AXELS WERE LEAKING AND THOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED INCLUDING ALL OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE $50 DEDUCTIBLE AND THE WARRANTY WOULD COVER THE REST. WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE IT WAS STILL MOVING WAS VERY UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.

This fuel pump recall 227 was issued on May 2022 and I've yet to be able to make an appointment to get it fixed. The Hyundai of San Bruno I was finally able to reach said they'll call me back when the parts come in. That was almost a year ago and when you call their service department, you can't even leave a voicemail. On some occasions you can leave a voicemail, but it's never returned. This is a fuel pump hose, not a complicated part. They should have this part. This is unacceptable as this recall addresses a potential fire risk.

After driving for about 45 minutes, car began to shake and make loud knocking noises, and the check engine and oil light both came on. After adding 3-4 quarts of oil in order to get to the destination, it seemed okay. After turning the car off, and back on, after about 15 minutes of driving the shaking, loud knocking noises and check engine light turned back on. At this point, the car was towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic noted that this was a problem with the engine and oil line and should be brought back to Hyundai because there is an active recall regarding this issue. Upon bringing the car to the Hyundai dealership, they agreed it was a recall issue and would fix it under the recall. Two days later we were informed from Hyundai that it would be $8,000 to replace the engine because the car is about 2,000 miles over the recall warranty and they will not make any exceptions. After calling Hyundai's corporate number, they agreed that it cannot be fixed under the recall warranty. They also confirmed that they never notified us regarding this recall. If we had known, we could have fixed this while it was under the mileage. The car is not drive-able and we are devastated by the lack of communication from Hyundai and refusal to fix this issue. There was no warning and while we are grateful nobody was hurt, this is extremely dangerous and we are now left without a car!!

In the engine compartment, my car is currently leaking gasoline. it was not taped over or replaced when it was clearly damaged; due there not being a remedy, but there was still steps to do that would help the situation, and vandergriff hyundai arlington, tx, did not do any of that. Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to file a formal safety complaint regarding a dangerous incident involving my Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (VIN: [XXX] ) and Hyundai Motor America’s failure to fully correct the issue. Incident Summary: While driving on the freeway, the vehicle suddenly displayed the following alarming warnings: “Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive” “Check Charging System” Immediately after these messages appeared, the car lost all power and shut down in the middle of the road. I had my two young children (ages XXX and XXX) in the car, making the situation extremely unsafe and traumatic. The vehicle lost all mobility and provided no opportunity to safely pull over. After contacting Hyundai Corporate multiple times, a case manager was eventually assigned to my case. At Hyundai’s request, I towed the vehicle to AutoNation Hyundai Valencia for diagnostic evaluation. The dealership diagnosed the issue as error code P0A78, indicating a transmission failure. Hyundai Corporate offered to cover 60% of the repair cost, leaving me responsible for the remaining 40%—an amount that exceeds the current value of the vehicle. This proposed resolution is not reasonable considering the severity of the safety risk and the vehicle’s low mileage. My primary concern is that this is an extremely dangerous defect, as the vehicle loses all power without warning, leaving the driver unable to move the car to a safe location. Requested Actions: A formal investigation into the safety and reliability of Hyundai’s hybrid systems, specifically in 2014 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. A determination of whether this defect qualifies under Hyundai’s warranty or federal safety defect regulations. Full compensation from Hyundai Corporate to cover 100% of the repair costs to correct this serious safety issue. Thank you for your time and attention to this critical matter. Lost power to vehicle while driving on the freeway, hybrid system warning was displayed as well as several lights to include engine, brake, and skid control. Had the dealer replace the knock sensor, 3 months later the exact same thing happened, in the same way. All the same obd2 codes were pulled both times.

I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE KNOCK SENSOR HARNESS AND IT HAS BEEN REPLACED UNDER CAMPAIGN T3G. I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON 4/23/2019 BUT MY CAR IS STILL HAVING KNOCKING SOUND, CAR IS HESITATING AND I GOT THE ENGINE LIGHT (MIL) BACK UP AGAIN ON THE VERY NEXT DAY I.E. 4/24/2019. MY CAR IS AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP SINCE THAN FOR THE REPAIR AND THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE PARTS FROM THE HYUNDAI FACTORY. the car has abruptly applied braking while driving. I took the car to get checked after that and i was told that there was nothing wrong except that the pads will need to be change sooner than later. I mechanic did tell me that it could be a safety issue because it was an uncontrollable. I than took the car to the Hyundai dealer for them to diagnose the car. They proposed that i change everything, including the brake pedal, which to me, sounded very fishy. One week ago, while driving, the car suddenly jammed on the brakes again. This particular time, it was also emitting smoke, either from the front or the bottom.

WHAT SEEMS TO BE RANDOM AND WITHOUT PROVOCATION, THE CAR WILL SOUND A BEEPING ALARM THAT ONLY SOUNDS ON THE INTERIOR, IT WILL DEACTIVATE THE ACCELERATOR (BASICALLY PUTS THE CAR IN NEUTRAL), AND WILL DISPLAY A WARNING MESSAGE THAT READS "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING! SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE. CHECK BRAKE". NO MATTER WHAT SPEED THE CAR IS TRAVELING AT, IT CAN UNDERGO THIS PROBLEM. IF BRAKES ARE APPLIED DURING THIS ISSUE, IT WILL SOUND AS IF THE BRAKES ARE GRINDING AND ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE ISSUE CAN ONLY BE RESOLVED BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE, AND RESTARTING IT. IF THIS IS DONE, THE CAR IS BACK TO 'NORMAL' FUNCTION. IT HAS CERTAINLY BEEN A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT HAS DONE IT MULTIPLE TIMES IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHER RATES OF SPEED, AND THE CAR STALLS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS FOUND NO ISSUE AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS, AND SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY THE ISSUE OVERALL. WHEN I STOPPED MY CAR AND PUT IN PARK I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO THE LOCK/OFF POSITION BUT THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN TO LOCK/OFF GO IN THE OFF POSITION. SO, THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND SHIFTED TO DRIVE THAN BACK TO PARK AND TURNED THE CAR OFF TO REMOVE THE KEY HOWEVER IT WAS STILL STUCK. I DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM TWO WEEK PRIOR AND THIS METHOD WORKED. I WAS BY A LOCKSMITH THAT I COULD WAS TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY UNTIL I COULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP.

Over past 2 years, repeat alarm & message on dashboard, says, “Hybrid System Warning! Safety Stop and Do not Drive.” During attempts to back vehicle from garage, brakes grind. Seemed to be on auto-stop, trying to stop the vehicle from moving. On 01/03/22, brought car to Laguna Niguel Hyundai. Invoice notes “Caused by HISTORY CODES IN AHB C2112 C1102 C1237; NO CODES CURRENT CLEARED HISTORY CODES AND TEST DROVE VEHICLE NO CODES OR LIGHTS ON AT THIS TIME.” Was told history codes related to something about “voltage too high” and “Accelerator switch circuit [ABS switch]” and “wheel rear input signal.” On 11/28/22, brought car to Laguna Niguel Hyundai to address the ‘check engine light’ that was on. Service manager said “battery was not corresponding with the engine”, something about “HECU” and how it’s needed to “check brake reservoir for fluid – so I should pump it due to air bubble inside.” On 6/12/23, was driving more than 70mph; began losing speed, down to 0 mph. Stepping on gas did nothing. Drifted toward side of road & got alarm sound and message on dashboard, “Hybrid System Failure.” Terrified. No control of vehicle, 4 passengers, stranded. Towed to La Quinta. Notes on Hyundai La Quinta invoice: “VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN SCANNED CODES P1B25 HIGH VOLTAGE PATH FAULT; P1B77 HIGH VOLTAGE PRECHARGE FAULT; POWER RELAY ASSEMBLY FALUTY SAFETY PLUG ASSEMBLY ARE FAULTY.” Notes also said BATTERY REPLACEMENT: BATTERY FAILED TEST Caused by BATTERY FAILED LOAD TEST. On 7/31, “HYBRID WARNING MESSAGE” returned. Alarm sound, grinding brakes – car undriveable. Towed for service. Invoice: “Caused by LOW BATTERY STATE OF HEALTH 53%. RECHARGE BATTERY TO 100% AND CLEAR DTC AND ROAD TEST.” While 7/31 work was covered under warranty, felt unsafe. Why battery health poor, when it was replaced 6 weeks before? Then came 8/30. Car disabled. Alarm sound & message says, “Hybrid System Warning! Safety Stop and Do not Drive.” Service manager said “hydraulic power unit failure”.

Im not aware what is malfunctioning or failing but I get a warning to not drive the vehicle and I start hearing a beeping sound, when I try to break it makes a harsh screeching sound and tugs the car a bit. It’s putting my safety at risk bc I drive for work and I can’t keep having this problem happen on the freeway. I’m afraid my brakes will fail and not break. Idk what the cause to this is, I’ve had two different mechanics take a look at this and no codes pop up. No warnings pop up either. This has been going on for almost 3 months. I can’t drive this vehicle with this problem and it’s the only one I rely on for work and my everyday needs. If you guys can please help me out or look into it I will be waiting for a response. DRIVING IN LIGHT RAIN ON NORMAL PAVEMENT ST LOUIS COUNTY. APPROACHED STOP SIGN AT END OF STEEP HILL. APPLIED BRAKES LIGHTLY AND WELL IN ADVANCE BUT CAR WAS NOT STOPPING. REALIZED THAT ENGINE HAD STOPPED SO NOTHING WAS WORKING. CAR BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AS IF BRAKES WERE TRYING TO GRAB. FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION - FORTUNATELY NOBODY WAS IN FRONT OF US ARE ATTEMPTING TO CROSS INTERSECTION IN OTHER DIRECTION. CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. TRIED TO RESTART BUT NOTHING. HAD TO MOVE CAR SO TRIED TO START AGAIN - STARTER DID NOT CRANK AT ALL, BUT SUDDENLY ENGINE WAS RUNNING AS IF IT HAD NEVER STOPPED AND ALL POWER WAS RESTORED. DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO DEALER THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH ENGINE RECALL. WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY WITH NO INCIDENT. AFTER 3 DAYS OF BEING AT DEALER WE WERE TOLD THAT SOMETHING IN THE BRAKE FLUID "MODULE" HAD BROKEN LOSE AND BRAKE FLUID LEAKED INTO WIRE HARNESS CAUSING EXTREME CORROSION. THEY BELIEVE THE ENGINE NEVER ACTUALLY STOPPED RUNNING, BUT RATHER THE ELECTRICAL SIGNAL WAS MOMENTARILY INTERRUPTED DUE TO THE CORROSION. IT WAS GOING TO BE A $5000 FIX. WE DID NOT HAVE CAR REPAIRED. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD SEND IT TO AUCTION. THIS CAR MUST TO BE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AS IT IS A HAZARD TO ANYONE WHO PURCHASES IT, EVEN "AS IS". REPORTED TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS AT HYUNDAI ON 11/6/19. SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE 11/14/19 AND WAS TOLD CAR WOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE. I AM REPORTING HERE TO INSURE THAT IT IS INDEED TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. WIFE DRIVES ABOUT 35 MILES PER DAY AND IT COULD HAVE EASILY HAPPENED WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING TO WORK.

Car is leaking excessive oil all through the engine and other main components. Theta engines are faulty and leading to engine staling and then failure. My engine stalled once. Was throwing no dash lights or codes. Next time the car was cranked it started knocking, still not throwing any dash lights. Brought to Hyundai dealership. The manufacturer is refusing to fix the engine saying it was ran on to low on oil to often. I had my records of maintenance to prove other wise once I provided them Hyundai said no still then said no because they took pictures of the inside and it looks as if it was running low on oil. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. ALL THE DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. I TRIED TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I HAD TO MAKE MY WAY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH ABSOLUTELY NO POWER WHICH WAS FRIGHTENING. WHEN I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY, I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. AFTER REALIZING THAT MY CAR HAD IN FACT, SHUT ITSELF OFF, I TRIED TO RESTART IT. FIRST TRY, IT STARTED! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR THAT IT CAN SHUT OFF, THEN BE FINE RIGHT AFTER? I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM AS SOON AS I GOT HOME, LOW AND BEHOLD, THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE. LOSING POWER WHEN DRIVING, ESPECIALLY HIGH SPEED IS A FRIGHTENING AND UNSAFE CONDITION. I TURNED OFF MY CAR AND THE ICONS WENT AWAY, THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING OUT OF NOWHERE BUT THANKFULLY I WAS IN A CLEAR ROAD. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL JERK IN EITHER ABOUT 2 INCHES. IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO FORCE YOU INTO THE OTHER LANE BUT ENOUGH TO SCARE YOU. WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT IT, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO BE HARD TO TURN LIKE IT IS LOCKED. IF I TURN THE WHEEL BACK THE OTHER WAY THE ATTEMPT TO STEER NORMALLY, THE WHEEL IS LOOSE AND NORMAL. SPEED IS NOT A FACTOR AS THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 35 TO 70 PH. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND THEY "TEST DRIVE IT BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE IT". I WAS TOLD THEY COULD KEEP IT FOR A WEEK AND LET SOMEONE DRIVE IT AROUND AND THEY WOULD TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT. IN THE MEANTIME, I WOULD BE WITHOUT A CAR. ALSO, THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL BUZZING NOISE COMING OUT FROM UNDER MY DASHBOARD BEHIND THE SPEEDOMETER. I HAVE ACTUALLY CALLED A COUPLE DIFFERENT DEALERS AND LET THEM LISTEN TO IT BUT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IT IS. MY LOCAL DEALER WANT S TO AGAIN KEEP MY CAR FOR A WEEK TO INVESTIGATE. THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH EXTERNAL LIGHT BULBS GOING OUT. HAD TO REPLACE 4 IN THE MATTER OF COUPLE MONTHS. SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER (THOUGHT IT WAS GAS) , RADIO RESTARTING AUTOMATICALLY. ONE DAY WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD, ALL THE SENSORS STARTED FLICKERING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, ENGINE SHUT OFF ,CAME TO A STOP. I MANAGED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IN COUPLE MINUTES AND DRIVE IT THE NEAREST SHOP. HAPPENED AT 78 K MILES. THE SHOP SAID THEY CANNOT FIX THIS PROBLEM, HAD TO TAKE IT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS NOW. The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the trunk failed to open as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the trunk latch needed to be replaced, and that the failure was related to an unknown recall. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

The latch of the trunk will not release. There is no way to open the trunk because the latch itself has a defect as reported in the NHTSA report 21V619000 recall #208 for the 2016/2017 model year. There is no way to fold down back seats because the seat release is inside the trunk. The key, interior trunk release nor the key fob will release the trunk because there is a defect in the latch system. The NHTSA has already flagged this as an issue, but the years effected need to be expanded, as the recall was too narrow.

The brake lights fail with no warning. Bulb replacement used to work. Since ownership at +70,000 miles, I have had to replace one or both of the tail light sections as they melted. The lighting harness has been changed multiple times. In January 2024 Hyundai issued a warranty extension to 15years/200,000miles. There is no date on the letter. When I tried to get my car serviced there were charges for testing to ensure that this was the problem and it was difficult to find someone to service the car in a timely manner. The police continue to issue me tickets for no rear brake lights. The Dealer who finally serviced the car indicated that the Warranty was Void as the replacement parts were not Hyundai parts. Servicing the car was well after the original warranty was already over, so why would you worry about warranty claims for original parts. They claim that they cannot diagnosis the problem without original parts. Hyundai Corporate Customer Service was no help in this matter, but they did apologize for the problem. Can't drive a car without tail lights and paying 850 for the repair is one month of my disability check.

My tail lights, brake lights and head lights continue to go out. I have replaced them many times myself and have taken it to the Hyundai dealership. They temporarily fixed them but couldn’t promise how long they would work. They said to fix them would cost over 1000$. This is a safety hazard as not having brake lights could cause serious accidents. This doesn’t seem Normal as I have never In my entire time I have been driving had to continually replace lights. Sounds like a manufacturer defect and I feel like the dealership should have to pay, not out of my pocket. I have been pulled over by the police and have had to explain why my lights don’t work. It’s scary because I never know if they are working or not. I did not get any warnings on my dashboard that lights were out. I have also googled this problem and it seems like a lot of the same year of Hyundai vehicles are having the same issues.

At 1st, my tail light went out on my passenger side of the car. I tired to fix the problem with replacing the bulb. This went on for several times. It got to the point that the bulb wouldn’t fix the problem. I then replaced the wiring harness. That worked for a day or two then the light was back out. I even went back to the dealership and had then replace the wiring harness, I was thinking perhaps I had a defected one, still to no avail. I then paid the $170 diagnostic fee so the dealership could find the problem. Well, I was told the problem was beyond the tail light and it was more than likely needed to be traced throughout my car. The job was gonna be too time consuming and costly for that particular dealership and ultimately my money was returned. Throughout this crazy process I had contacted the Hyundai corporate office to report the problem and was dismissed. So, here’s the bigger picture. Once I started researching this problem more and more people were having the same problems as I. The light bulbs in the tail lights was burning so hot that it would burn out the bulb, the wires and the housing causing many people to replace bulbs and in some cases the whole unit. This what happened to the driver side of my car. The entire housing and wiring was not good and the whole thing had to be replaced. Hyundai has some serious electrical defects with the year and model of my car. They don’t want even acknowledge that there is a problem. Honestly, one of the employees explained to me how this was a known problem and how the company tried to fix it by making the socket thicker with the hopes of the bulb not burning out. This employee knew the the wiring harness was changed before to the new one the original one because of the color of it. So, clearly, it did not solve the problem. Now that my electrical issues existent beyond the tail light means my car could be at risk of fire at anytime. Last thing, my high beams don’t work now also.

While driving the vehicle the lights on the dash start to flash, stating that there is a Charging system warning. It says to pull over and not to drive. It becomes very difficult to brake, or steer, almost like the vehicle has lost power. It blew warm air and the check engine light also came on. This can be extremely dangerous if one was on the highway or at an intersection or any place where they needed to pull over to safety. My 12v battery was checked and found to be fine. I called multiple mechanics to come take a look at the vehicle and the codes that were read were P1B77, P1B96, P1B70, P0A0D. The 150 Amp fuse was said to be blown, and was replaced. Sometimes the car will start back up, and sometimes it won't. Currently, it's sitting in my yard. The engine and interior look pristine, but there is something going on with these vehicles that isn't being addressed. This car is dangerous and there are many, many, MANY people that I'm finding on Reddit, YouTube, and the Hyundai forums who are having the exact same issues. I unfortunately cannot afford to continue to keep hiring mechanics, nor to have it towed to the dealership, only for them to do what they are doing with countless other people. They do not seem to understand the issue either and are grasping at straws to replace expensive parts, only to have the issue reoccur. Something needs to be done about this before someone is killed.

We were driving and the engine just quit. We were able to safely get to the median. The minute the car was stopped we smelled something burning. We got the kids out of the car and to the other side of the road. We looked under the hood and could smell the burning but didn't see where it was coming from. Soon we were back on the side of the road waiting for our ride to pick us up. About 20 to 25 min later we saw smoke coming out of the hood. My husband called the fire dept and just as they arrived the whole thing lit on fire under the hood. The fire dept was able to put out the fire. Now we are waiting to have it appraised by our insurance company.

I NOTICED AS I WAS USING MY TURN SIGNAL AS I WAS GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 5:00 IN THE MORNING THAT MY HEADLIGHTS HAD APPEARED TO GO OUT. A FEW SECONDS LATER THEY CAME BACK ON. I THOUGHT MAYBE I WAS SEEING THINGS BUT THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AS I WAS SIGNALING TO CHANGE LANES. FOR THE REST OF THE 25 MILES TO GET TO WORK ON A BUSY HIGHWAY I STOPPED USING MY TURN SIGNAL FOR FEAR THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT COME BACK ON. I TOOK BY CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHT ISSUE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ISSUE FIXED. I WAS CALLED WHILE MY CAR WAS STILL AT THE DEALER THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE HEADLIGHT ISSUE AND THAT THEY REPLACED SOME PART THAT HAD TO DO WITH THE OIL. OF COURSE WITH THE ENGINE ONLY BEING 2 YEARS OLD I HAD TO PAY. I PAID $458 AND WHEN I LEFT THE DEALER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF. I drove a mile from my house and the vehicle stalled at a turn. The engine shut off. I tried to turn it back on and it did not. I have an electrical push button and it did not work. My passenger and I pushed the car out of the road into the back area of an HEB. We then opened the hood and the engine started smoking. I had called my boyfriend who then arrived. The engine continued to smoke and an HEB driver saw the incident. He came over with a fire extinguisher and sprayed it because they could see flames starting under the car. The fire department and police had been called. The car engine then went up in flames and my boyfriend used the fire extinguisher. The fire department arrived and went over to the car and cut the wires. Nothing on the car works. It has not been assessed because I only had collision insurance and my company would not come to assess it. They did tow it back to my house where it is sitting and not working. I can't even move it into neutral. There was not warning of this and I had driven the car to the airport (an hour away) and back five hours earlier that day and it seemed fine. The fire department said that if they need to be contacted they have a report on the incident.

I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE DURING TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR, MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND I COULDN'T ACCELERATE ABOVE 2,000 RPM OR GO OVER 60 MPH. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED. AFTER 3 DAYS I PICKED THE CAR UP, AND THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE KNOCK SENSOR AND THE CAR WAS FIXED. SINCE THEN THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES. CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP. I STARTED RESEARCHING ON MY OWN, AND I READ THAT THE KNOCK SENSOR WAS AN UPDATE HYUNDAI ADDED AFTER THE RECALL OF THE ENGINES IN THESE CARS. THIS KNOCK SENSOR IS ACTUALLY PROTECTING MY CAR (AND ME) BY PUTTING IT IN 'LIMP MODE' BECAUSE IT SENSES SOMETHING DANGEROUS IN THE ENGINE. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO INFORM THEM I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THIS HAS HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES AND CLEARLY IS'T FIXED, AND I'M SURE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE RECALLS THEY HAVE AND ENGINE FIRES. THE WINDSHIELD WASHER ON THIS VEHICLE IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE. THE WATER TO THE WINDSHIELD WASHER DOES NOT FLOW FROM THE WATER PUMP, WHICH IS FUNCTIONING. I BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING ON MORE VEHICLES THAN JUST MINE. I BELIEVE IT IS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT. THE WATER PUMP ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER IS NOT FAILING. WHAT IS FAILING IS THE LINE THAT DIRECTS THE WATER FROM THE WATER WELL TO THE WINDSHIELD. "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT 01/08/2021. SUDDENLY NO POWER TO THE ENGINE. THE GAS PEDAL WASN'T WORKING. QUICKLY I PULL INTO THE HARD SHOULDER. PENNDOT TRUCK SHOWS UP AFTER AN HOUR TO COVER THE ROAD. ( TO PREVENT COLLISIONS.) I TOWED THE CAR TO A NEARBY DEALER. CONTACTED BY THE DEALER 3 DAYS LATER. THEY SAID IT WAS12V A BATTERY ISSUE AND IT'S FIXED. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY TO PICK UP THE CAR. I PAID $388 FOR REPLACING THE BATTERY. THE CAR WON'T START WITH THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE. I RAN INTO THE DEALER ASKED FOR AN EXPLANATION. THE WORSE THING IS THE DEALER NEVER RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOR CODE OR ANYTHING AND ASSUMED IT'S FIXED. I DEMANDED A REFUND. On Feb 15th 2023 my daughter was driving my 2014 Hyundai Sonata at the posted speed limit of 55 MPH on a 2 lane blacktop when the car suddenly and without any warning at all, lost all power and became unresponsive while traveling with other vehicles behind her, in front of her and in the opposing lane of travel. Without enough of an improved shoulder to pull to the right and a steep embankment on that side of the roadway as well, she was forced to veer to the left with other cars approaching. She had minimal braking, steering and no response to depressing the accelerator pedal at all. She was able to direct the car onto a paved portion of a feeder road and finally got the car stopped. The cabin filled with smoke and there was smoke all around the car but no fire was ever found. These vehicles are dangerous to the public and have a known engine defect that because of this the manufacturer has implemented a software patch known as KSDS and with this recall in place should have allowed my daughter to reach a safer place than being stranding on the side of a busy hi-way. My car had this patch installed and I was assured that this recall would allow the car to be driven a safe distance and it would be obvious when this patch was active and the engine would be put in "Limp mode" This did not happen, the engine locked up

While driving normally on the highway I received the "Hybrid Safety Warning: Do Not Drive!" error. The engine began sputtering uncontrollably, the brakes weren't fully responsive and I lost power steering. Thankfully I was able to coast down the road and pull over. If this had happened in traffic I can't imagine an accident would not have happened. Not being able to brake safely or steering properly while your engine is sputtering out of control is terrifying and a MAJOR mistake in design and implementation.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the coolant temperature warning light illuminated, and the vehicle began to stall. The contact veered to the side of the road and noticed smoke coming from under the hood. The contact opened the hood and noticed a significant amount of smoke. The vehicle was towed to the Subaru dealer it was purchased from. The Subaru dealer diagnosed that the engine was blown and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to the local Hyundai dealer and the diagnosis was confirmed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she had received a class-action lawsuit settlement notice related to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated with a burning odor and a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was later driven to the local dealer who discovered metal shavings inside the engine and engine oil and informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000. The mechanic stated in the engine evaluation notes rings in the engine bad, and the metal shavings would indicate the rings on the piston were not correctly installed or shimmed to tolerance, causing them to scrape the inner wall of the piston chamber. Further stating it is a mechanical issue and not the negligence of the owner.

My car has been at the dealer since 5/3 which i had an appointment for the TXXI engine failure and fuel pump 227 recalls. I was driving my lights all came on and the car decelerated and wouldn't speed up anymore the steering wheel also got tight.i just got oil change at the end of March and haven't been any long distances. I was told 2 days later that my car was being diagnosed it is now 5/10 and I'm still being told my car is being diagnosed with absolutely no update, they also refuse to give me a rental car or provide a out of house rental... They are making me pay out of pocket for rentals then can only post for reimbursement which isn't guaranteed after the work is done but cannot give me any type of word on even when the diagnostic will be done. I asked if they have any order to diagnosing like is it in order he said no i said so someone can bring their car in after mine and get completed before for same thing just depending on which the technician decides to do the advisor said yes candidly. I've been calling for updates and have not received anything other than the diagnosis is still not done after 7 days. I'm paying for a car that i don't have access to and it's not being expedited in order. When i dropped the car off they said it would take 4 days tops with are they starting my car then not finishing.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, APX 70MPH, OCCASIONALLY MY 2014 SONATA GLS WILL COMPLETELY DIE. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES NOT IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS, ALWAYS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION USUALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE DASH LIGHTS ALL GO BLACK, RADIO CUTS OFF, AND ENGINE DIES, FOR APX 2-3 SECONDS, AND THEN USUALLY TURNS ITSELF BACK ON LIKE IT NEVER DIED. OCCASIONALLY THOUGH THE CAR WILL NOT TURN ITSELF BACK ON. WHEN IT DIES, THE STEERING ALSO BECOMES VERY STIFF AND THE BRAKES ARE EXTREMELY HARD TO USE. MY CAR HAS ONLY 112XXX MILES AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY. I bought my car at 97k miles in June 2022. From the 2nd day of having it, my car was shaking horribly. I sent it back to the dealership they said the front motor mount was collapsed. They repaired it but said there is still shaking but they don't know why. About 2 months later, I get in with Universal Hyundai and they only say that I need my axels and spark plugs replaced along with the air filters. They do a balance and alignment on my car as well as an oil change. The balance and alignment was either not done properly or my car just needs it done super regularly. Not too long after while I'm driving out of a friend's neighborhood my car is in drive and I'm going around 5 mph, my car stops with all of the lights on. I turn my car off and back on and carefully drive it home. Also, my car key always gets locked up in the ignition. One day I go to turn my car off and my ignition locks and I had to get my car towed and my ignition replaced with new car keys. Later, I take it to my mechanic to see what he can do and to get another oil change. He said he doesn't think it's my axels but my motor mounts and other things. Then my check engine light goes off a week later and it's my power train and anti-lock brake system. The next day on the way back to the mechanic my car slows down, I was only going 40ish mph, and all of the lights are shown. I turn my car off and on and I get it to my mechanic (my mechanic only down minor stuff btw). I start hearing a woodpecker noise from the engine and my mechanic tells me to get it to the shop asap. The next morning, I call my warranty to see if it's covered and they tell me that my engine will blow if I drive on it. And now my car will be in the shop for a month. And I can't find out the service done to my car prior to me owning it. And every time I take it somewhere they don't know what's up with it completely.

January 29th my check engine light came on and I was not able to go no more than 40mph. there is a knocking noise coming from the engine. took it to autozone and the code was P1326. Now when I start it up it has a smoking smell to it and the knocking is getting louder. I have not driven my vehicle since January 29 2022 The knocking noise first started January 24th. THE NEW SONATA IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. IT WILL NOT STAY IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT IS CONSTANTLY MOVING OR FADING RIGHT TO LEFT. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP RESPONDS ITS BUILT TO GO TO THE RIGHT INCASE YOU FALL ASLEEP. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH TO FIND THE SONATA HAS HAD A LONG HISTORY OF THIS SAME PROBLEM SINCE 2011. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS ITS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING PUMP. WELL AT HIGH SPEEDS ITS HARD TO HANDLE AND THE REACTION TIME IS MORE DIFFICULT TO COMPENSATE THE RIGHT AND LEFT MOVEMENT. SAFETY AND FIRE HAZARD WITH REAR TAIL LIGHT LAP ASSEMBLY, BULB BURNS EXTREMELY HOT RIGHT THROUGH PLASTIC HOUSING UNIT. UNABLE TO REPLACE BULBS BECAUSE LIGHTING ASSEMBLY MELTS TO THE SOCKET'S CORE AND THE SOCKET MELTS OVER THE BULB METAL BASE. EXPECT EXTREME DAMAGE PROHIBITING REPLACEMENT OF ANY BULBS. HAVING TO ADD AT LEAST 2 QUARTS EVERY 2-3 WEEKS. WHILE DRIVING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK CAR TO MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY WHO THEN EXPLAINED THERE WAS SO MUCH SLUDGE ON THE PLUGS (CAUSING MISFIRES AND ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON) FROM BUILT UP OIL THAT ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I DID NOTICE THAT THE 'SET' LIGHT WAS OFF AS IT DOES WHEN YOU BRAKE BUT THE CRUISE WAS STILL TRYING TO SPEED UP WHEN BRAKE RELEASED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW, IT HAS A LITTLE OVER 95K MILES, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE. SHOULD SOMEONE BRAKE HARD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, CATASTROPHE IS ONLY A MOMENT AWAY AS THESE TIRES DO NOT GRIP THE ROAD. MORE NOTICEABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, BUT ALSO AT CITY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE REQUIRES CONSTANT CORRECTION TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT TRACK. THE CAR SIMPLY 'WANDERS' OR 'DRIFTS' LEFT AND RIGHT, WITH NO REAL 'CENTERED' FEEL TO THE STEERING. MAINTAINING A STRAIGHT TRACK IS IMPOSSIBLE AND REQUIRES CONSTANT ATTENTION AND CORRECTION. THE STEERING WANDER CREATES HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS, ESPECIALLY ON WET OR ICY SURFACES AND DRIVER FATIGUE, WHICH POSES A PUBLIC SAFETY HAZARD. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP OVER 10 TIMES FOR RESOLUTION, AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN INFORMED TWICE. AS I WAS EXCITING THE FREEWAY I BEGAN TO HEAR A "KNOCKING" SOUND, AS I MADE THE TURN ON TO THE STREET THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD CAME ON. SINCE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR AND AFTER INITIALLY STARTING UP IT THEN ABRUPTLY TURN OFF ONCE AGAIN ABOUT 20 SECONDS LATER. AT THIS POINT I MANAGAGED TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT WITH THE LEFT OVER MOMENTUM. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE NEWREST HYUNDAI DEALER. THEY FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MAKING CHIME SOUNDS CAUSED BY INSUFFICIENT VOLUME COMING FROM CHIME IN BCM.THEY ORDERED THE MODULE TO CORRECT AND REPLACED IT A FEW DAYS LATER. WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP I COULD NOT TELL ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE CHIME SOUND. SO I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE MY HEARING AND SCHEDULED AN APOINTMENT WITH AND EAR DOCTOR. Formal Complaint – Hybrid System Failure, Safety Risk (VIN: [XXX] | Hyundai Case #[XXX]) Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to file a formal safety complaint regarding a dangerous incident involving my Hyundai hybrid vehicle (VIN: [XXX] ) and Hyundai Motor America's failure to respond meaningfully to repeated requests for assistance. Incident Summary: On [XXX], while driving with my two young children (ages [XXX] and [XXX] ), my vehicle suddenly displayed the following critical warnings: “Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive” “Check Charging System” Immediately after these messages appeared, the car lost all power and came to a complete stop in the middle of the road. This created an extremely hazardous and distressing situation for me and my family. Although the vehicle is a few years old, it has very low mileage (38,345 miles), and I did not expect such a catastrophic failure. I submitted a report to Hyundai Customer Support on May 30, 2025 (Case #[XXX]) and followed up on June 9, 2025, but have only received an automated acknowledgment—no response, investigation, or support to date. Attachments: A video clip showing the warning messages at the time of the incident (I cannot upload the video clip since the option is not there, but I do have it if required) Requested Actions: A formal investigation into the safety and reliability of Hyundai's hybrid systems. I am having an issue with the driver's front airbag clock spring assembly in my 2014 Hyundai Sonata. I see that there is a recall on the 2011-2014 Elantra vehicles, 2011-2013 Sonata vehicles, and 2011-2014 Sonata Hybrid vehicles for up to 15 years, but my 2014 Sonata is having the same issue. My car is not a hybrid, but what do I need to do in order to get this covered? Everything that the recall is describing is going on with my vehicle. The airbag light stays on, a non-functional horn, and/or inoperative steering wheel controls, the steering column makes a noise when turned.

Oct 24th, 2024 on highway had accelerated to 75, all of a sudden, car experienced mechanical shutdown, engine light came on would go fast slow down, felt like braking down, engine light was solid, had to get very slowly somehow into the brake down lane. Turned the car off, waited long time...got advice to try to power car back on because was night and was dangerous lane. Car started, drove very slowly home with hazard lights on. Next incident (that I was on hgwy) Nov 24th, 2024 went from 65 to work up to 80MPh, the car lights went on for engine, slowing down,no control of the speed, no accelerating, lights, made to pull over...turn car off...waiting 15 minutes, drove in break down lane, was only 7-8 minutes from my house off highway.

The driver's seat lost a bolt and the seat was no longer bolted down at the back, although sitting on it would lower it. I took it to a mechanic and they re-attached the screw and bolt but were unable to do so in a way that the seat operates properly. It still lifts when I get out of the car and lowers when I sit down. This is available for inspection if needed. The safety concern is that in the event of an accident, the seat may detach from the base of the car. The problem has been reproduced by an independent service center. The work was done in Feb 2022. The vehicle hasn't been inspected by any others. There were no warnings or other symptoms before or after the event.

Left driver side rear and front headlamps would burn out, after time noticed the left headlamp flickering 9n and off while driving at night in auto mode, also inside dash lights dimming, also left driver side seat will not adjust, this is a Hazzard for myself and others while driving at night, with lights malfunctioning, was pulled over by highway patrol, and given a warning to fix headlamp.Issue has not been inspected by anyone and the vehicle can be inspected upon request, no dash or warning lights have came on.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an unknown repair was completed. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle made abnormal sounds while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there were metal shavings in the engine oil. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the steering wheel loosened up inadvertently and she lost control of the vehicle. The contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle failed to respond, causing the vehicle to crash into two occupied vehicles. The air bags deployed. The contact sustained a seat belt mark, and soreness on the neck and shoulders. The contact also sustained numbness in the right hand. The contact later sought medical assistance. The occupants of the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was awaiting to be totaled. I am the owner of a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. That car is 8 years old and has 69K miles on it. At no time did Hyundai Motor Company notify that my car was impacted by an engine failure recall. On November 10, 2022 the car was being driven. At no time did it give any potential warning, instead the car fully stopped while in motion at 25 mph. There was no warning, no lights appeared on the dashboard until the car had stalled itself out. When I called the local dealer where the car was purchased, I was promised a call back. That call never came. I was able to contact someone at corporate who did confirm the vin number of my car is on an engine recall. I was told to contact a local dealer to find someone to replace the recall alerts. Again the local SURESKY dealer cannot help me. After spending 4 hours on the phone, I was able to connect with someone in a service department who indicated that the return volume of these car is so extensive that they are backlogged 3 to 4 more. I would encourage all users of this car to immediately end use of it. I would encourage all users to look into local LEMON laws. This entire recall was handled completely wrong by Hyundai Corporate who. Nobody can answer questions, they can only pass you around. The company should be investigated for consumer fraud at the state and federal level. The company should be investigated for proper accounting, proper tax reporting, for the recall.

April 2,2022 I took my car in for an oil change. Immediately after leaving the car smoked as if it was on fire. I was pulled over by Walls Mississippi police department because they thought the car was on fire. I contacted Hyundai. They have not done anything to fix this situation. I have not been able to drive the car since then. It needed oil a week after the oil change April 2,2022. It smokes very bad. It has lost power. The engine knocks. I had to get a rental car at the rate of $1000 for a 3 week rental. My car note is $578. The car was repossessed today because Hyundai would not fix the car so I could go to work and pay my car note. I have numerous emails and receipts. No one helped me at Hyundai. They are making us pay our carnotes. Pay rental fees out of pocket. They only reimburse you for your rental once your car goes into the shop. All Hyundai dealerships have a 2 month wait time before they will let you bring the car in,otherwise it will sit on the lot for 2 months. I have tried 5 times since 2021 until now to get the recalls done. Hyundai Mt. Mariah Memphis kept the car a week and asked me to come get it because they did not have all the parts to complete the recalls. Hyundai Olive Branch Mississippi stated they have a 2 to 3 month wait time as well. No one has loaner cars. I explained this to the claim person Julia at Hyundai and no one did anything to fix this.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the electrical system had failed to operate as needed both inside and outside of the vehicle. The contact stated that the taillights had failed to illuminate upon depression of the brake pedal, while the interior lights would flicker. Additionally, the headlights would also flicker while in operation without warning. Additionally, the contact stated that an abnormal clanking sound was coming from the vehicle without warning while making left turns. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where they informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

AROUND 93246 MILES THE INTERMITTENT ENGINE NOISES AND INTERMITTENT NO ACCELERATION AND SLOW ACCELERATION ARE BACK, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ILLUMINATING. RETURNED MY SONATA TO SOUTH POINT HYUNDAI WHO REPORTS THE ENGINE IS BAD, BUT THERE ARE NO DIAGNOSTIC ERROR CODES, AND THEY ARE WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM HYUNDAI ON HOW TO PROCEED. HENCE, THE KNOCK SENSOR SOFTWARE UPDATE IS NOT A CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR DETECTING ENGINE FAILURE, ALERTING DRIVERS TO ENGINE FAILURE. THE KNOCK SENSOR SOFTWARE UPDATE IS NOT AN EFFECTIVE SCREEN FOR ENGINE DEFECTS. THE ENGINE NOISES OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET, AND ON A HIGHWAY.

THESE BRAKES WERE MANUFACTURED BY WAGNER BRAKES.; .FOR A FEW WEEKS WHEN I PRESSED ON BRAKES THERE WAS A SQUEAL, WHILE CAR WAS MOVING, AND LATELY SOUNDED LIKE STEEL ON STEEL. WHILE CARE WAS MOVING TOOK CAR BACK TO JTIRES PLUS, BRAKES WERE DEFECTIVE, THEY REPLACED THEM WITH DURALAST GOLD BRAKES. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS AGAINST WAGNER BRAKES, AND I'D LIKE A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THESE BRAKES. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE RECALL ON MY 2014 SONATA POWER TRAIN/GEAR SHIFT; CAMPAIGN # 123. THIS WAS COMPLETED IN 2017; HOWEVER, SOME MONTHS AGO ONCE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS IN PART WITH MOTOR OFF, AND I TURNED ON THE MOTOR THE SHIFT WOULD NOT MOVE FROM THE PARK POSITION. ESC LIGHT AND HARD BRAKING ISSUE(ABS MODULE?): ESC LIGHT TURNS ON AND THE CAR APPLIES HARD BRAKES WITHOUT ANY ACTION FROM THE DRIVER WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD OR FREEWAY (NOT WHILE TURNING). SOMETIMES, THE ESC LIGHT DOESN'T TURN ON BUT THE BRAKES STILL GET APPLIED WHILE IN MOTION WITHOUT ANY ACTION FROM DRIVER. IT HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES SO FAR - 2 OF THOSE WHILE DRIVING AT MORE THAN 60MPH ON FREEWAY BUT WAS FORTUNATE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. ONE INSTANCE OF THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY BUT WITH ENGINE RUNNING (AT A PARKING LOT). AS YOU COULD SEE, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE PUTTING US IN DANGER WITHOUT ANY PRIOR INDICATION OR NO KNOWN RESOLUTION. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER SERVICE CENTER BUT THEY CANNOT FIND THE ROOT CAUSE YET. THEY HAVE ALREADY TRIED REPLACING BRAKE SWITCH BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. I HAVE FILED A CASE WITH HYUNDAI DIRECTLY TOO AND WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM.

BLACK SMOKE BILLOWED FROM BEHIND THE VEHICLE, AND AS I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OVER, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. ONCE WE WERE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE FIRE WAS VISIBLE FROM UNDER THE ENGINE. WE CONTACTED 911. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. THIS CAR HAD VARIOUS RECALLS, ALL DEEMED 'RESOLVED' BY HYUNDAI. THEY DID EXTEND THE WARRANTY DUE TO THE KNOWN ISSUES. WITH THE STEERING WHEEL, WHILE TURNING LEFT, IT SEMI GETS STUCK. IN ORDER FOR THAT TO NOT HAPPEN, YOU BASICALLY HAVE TURN IT RIGHT AWAY. IT IS AT VERY HIGH RISK DUE TO THE FACT THAT IF IT WOULD MANAGE TO GET STUCK, IT MAY CAUSE AN UNNECESSARY ACCIDENT. I THEN RESTARTED IT AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET HOME. I THEN CALLED AAA AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. MY MECHANIC FOUND THAT THEY COULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH MOST MODULES/COMPUTERS THAT ARE IN THE CAR. AFTER HOURS OF TESTING, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE BACK UP CAMERA WAS CORRUPTING THE COMPUTER DATA LINES AND ESSENTIALLY SHUTTING DOWN CRUCIAL MODULES IN THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE CAMERA WAS REMOVED FROM THE CAR, THE VEHICLE OPERATIONS RETURNED TO NORMAL. PLEASE ADVISE HYUNDAI OF THIS ISSUE, SO OTHER MOTORISTS CAN BE SPARED THIS FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. I HAVE A PUSH BUTTON IGNITION. THREE TIMES THIS PAST WEEK, MY CAR HAS FAILED TO START. THE THIRD TIME THIS OCCURRED, I WAS STRANDED FOR 1.5 HOURS. MY BROTHER CAME TO GIVE ME A "JUMP" AS HE THOUGHT IT WAS MY BATTERY ONLY FOR SPARKS TO COME FROM MY BATTERY AND FOR HIS CABLES TO GET SO HOT THAT THEY MELTED. I HAD MY CAR OWED TO ALLEN SAMUEL'S HYUNDAI IN NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX THE NEXT MORNING ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT BECAUSE THEY ARE UNABLE TO "RECREATE" THE ISSUE, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. AGAIN, THIS WAS BROUGHT TO HYUNDAI'S ATTENTION AND BECAUSE THEY CAN'T "SEE IT", "RECREATE IT" AND THERE ARE NO "RECALLS", THEN THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. AGAIN, THIS IS ANOTHER SAFETY HAZARD AS I MAY THINK I HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF GAS IN MY CAR WHEN IN REALITY I DO NOT. THE FIRST ISSUE OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY. MY VEHICLE HAS FOR THE LAST YEAR SHOWED SIGNS OF THE RECALL AND WE HAVE GOTTEN A HYUNDAI TO FIX IT WITH A RING BUT THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE SHOWED THE SAME THINGS. THE SYMBOL IN THE MIDDLE THAT DISPLAYS DRIVE WHEN IT DISAPPEARS THE CAR STRUGGLES TO ACCELERATE AND DRIVE , AND WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WITH IT DISAPPEREARED THE CAR TAKES ALOT OF GAS TO ACCELERATE. WHICH I BELIEVE IS FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND THE CAR NOT BEING ON THE SAME PAGE.. WHICH IS TERRIBLE AS IT CAN COST A LOST OF LIFE DUE TO THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPING AND IT IS A EXTREME HAZARD TO MYSELF AND MY FAMILY. AND I WISH THAT HYUNDAI WOULD DO SOMETHING OR REPLACE THE VEHICLE.

APPROXIMATELY 4 PM ON AUGUST 24, 2015 DRIVING MY 2014 SONATA LIMITED WITH 11450 MILES ONTO THE LOCAL FREEWAY ON RAMP, CAR STALLED AND TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING OCCURRED. I HAD JUST ENOUGH TIME TO GET THE VEHICLE TO SIDE AND AVOID POSSIBLE COLLISION FROM BEHIND. HAD ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING, AND WAS DRIVING NORMAL FOR THE CLEAR ROAD DRIVING. WEATHER WAS GOOD, CLEAR AND SUNNY, UPPER 80F. TRAFFIC WAS STARTING TO BUILD FOR RUSH HOUR AND HAD THIS OCCURRED 5 MINUTES LATER MAJOR COLLISION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO TRAFFIC CONGESTION ON FREEWAY DURING THAT TIME. AT THE TIME OF OCCURRENCE IT FELT AS IF I HAD A FLAT TIRE WITH THE FRONT WHEELS WANTING TO TURN IN DIRECTION OF WEAKER TIRE SIDE. COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSS OF POWER BOTH ELECTRICAL AND ENGINE WERE IMMEDIATE. I PLACED SHIFTER IN NEUTRAL AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE MAINTAINING SOME MOMENTUM TO GET CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD WHILE TRYING TO RESTART IT. VEHICLE STARTED BUT I DID NOT HAVE ANY STEERING CONTROL AT ALL. HYUNDAI BLUELINK ROADSIDE ASSISTANT THEN CALLED AND SUMMONED A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT TO LOCAL DEALER FOR WARRANTY SERVICE AND REPAIR. SERVICE TECHNICIAN HAS STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. NO INDICATION AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE FAULT TO OCCUR AND TO WHETHER THE CAUSE OF THE FAULT HAS BEEN DETERMINED.

THE FIRST INCIDENT OF OUR TIRES EXPLODING HAPPENED ON MARCH 18 WHILE DRIVING ALONG AN EMPTY STREET. THE CAR JUMPED A CURB AND SPUN. THE TIRES ENDING UP HAVING TO BE REPLACED, THE SUSPENSION WAS DAMAGED AND HAD TO BE FIXED AND THE RIMS WERE ALSO DAMAGED. DUE TO MY HUSBANDS FAST REACTION HE FORTUNATELY DID NOT HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. YESTERDAY, 5/21/15 WILL BE THE SECOND TIME HIS TIRES EXPLODE EXCEPT THIS TIME IT IS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE FROM THE TWO PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THESE TIRES?! THESE TIRES ARE HORRIBLE. I HAVE A SMALL CHILD AND GOD FORBID MY CHILD IS IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENED OR IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I WILL NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE A LEASE A HYUNDAI OR RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY!

1) THE MILES PER GALLON READING IS UNPREDICTABLE ITS ADVERTISED TO GIVE AROUND 27 COMBINED BUT I HAVE NEVER REACHED THAT 27 MPG, THOUGH I DRIVE IN LOW RPM ) THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN FOR LONG DISTANCE EVEN AFTER RELEASING THE GAS PEDAL RESULTING IN ABRUPT BRAKING IN LIEU OF GRADUAL BRAKING IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC 2) THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT MALFUNCTIONED AT AROUND 15,000 MILES 3) THE CAR HAS A LEAK FROM 1000 MILES ONWARDS BUT THE SERVICE CENTER REFUSES TO HELP, I CALLED HYUNDAI THEY ADVISE ME TO CALL THE SERVICE CENTER, I FEEL AS IF AFTER A VALUABLE INVESTMENT THERE'S NO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION OR CUSTOMER REDRESSED PROCESS. 4) LACK OF CORPORATE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT CAN ANSWER WARRANTY RELATED QUESTIONS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND EXCESSIVE FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I WAS DISGUSTED TO SEE THE CURRENTLY PLAYING HYUNDAI SONATA COMMERCIAL IN WHICH AN ADULT MAN IS ILLEGALLY AND DANGEROUSLY DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT WITH A CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT. AS THE CAR STOPS IT IS APPARENT THAT THE BEHAVIOR IS A GAME WHICH IS THEN REPEATED. I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE HYUNDAI ORGANIZATION TO PROMOTE CHILD ENDANGERMENT OR THEY ARE JUST SICK. .
