Hyundai replaced my engine under warranty due to their oil consumption in mid October. About 2 weeks later all warning lights came on and they said need new battery. They put in new battery in November. 15 miles after new battery a burning smell and smoke came from under hood with visible smoke. Took to dealer following day and no smoke. Got car back and next day it’s smoking and burning smell. Got it back to dealership and they had it a while and said no smoke and I got car back. They can’t find a reason and it’s not smoking .About a week later (tonight) burning smell and smoke from under hood at the engine.

My oil light came on after driving it about 4700 miles from purchase date. I checked the oil and there was no oil on the dipstick. 200 miles and 2 days later the check engine light came on and put it into limp mode. It was about a half quart low. I was put at risk for having to go slow on a main highway to get back home. I took it to a local Hyundai dealership they did a diagnostic and bearing clearance test for 572.00. They said it passed. Then I did a 1000 mile oil consumption test. They over filled my oil and it passed. The 2nd 1000 mile oil consumption test they did not over fill my oil and it failed. They told me they would submit a PA to Hyundai corporate and as long as the maintenance was done they would most likely replace the engine. He also told me my engine could blow anytime. They never called me back so when I called the dealership they said they denied it needed a new engine. They wanted me to pay another 800 to run a combustion test. I am not paying for anymore testing when they clearly have engine problems with many of their engines. I had warning signs and that’s when I called the dealership I purchased it from and went on this path. I was also told that this was covered under an extension warranty of 120, 000 miles. Only to be told by Hyundai corporate that it is not covered. This is an issue Hyundai is well aware of and they refuse to fix it.

Problem with the valve cover gasket. Dealer said replaced. Engine oil smell has been entering into the cabin and making me ill. Causing chest pain, headache, dizziness, nausea.

My car has been with Priority Hyundai in Chesapeake Va since September 23rd. They have advised me that I will definitely need a new engine however, Hyundai is requiring them to do 2750.00 worth of work on my engine before they can submit a claim to have my engine replaced. They explained to me that one of the piston rings in my engine needs to be replaced. The service technician reassured me “the failure was nothing that I could have caused”. I have gotten my oil change regularly, and I have paperwork that shows that. The car is five years old. I’ve only had the car for 3 years and I’m the first owner. I have never driven my car long distance. I work from home. The most I do is take my boys to and from school which is at the most 5.1 miles away from my home. The dealer recommended that I call Hyundai my self and start a case. Which I did. Two days later Hyundai Canada called to tell me their decision is final and my case was denied because the warrant is 5 years/60,000 miles I told them the car was over the 60,000 mileages when I bought it and I’m still well within the 5-yr mark. She then says, basically that the piston failure is not included in the extended warranty. However the class action suit states differently. The dealership advised me that their system shows a 99 yr warranty on the engine, which they took that to mean lifetime. They priced me a new engine at 7111.00 in addition to the 2750.00 of engine work they told me I must get done before hyundai would approve me for a new engine. I have been in contact with the lawyers handling the Hyundai/Kia 2.0L and 2.4L Theta II GDI Engine Class Actions. They have added me to the data base and provided me some direction. which have led me to you, the NHTSA.

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at night, the low-beam headlights were dim. There was no warning light illuminated. Due to the inadequate illumination, the contact was forced to use the high beam headlights while driving at night. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the halogen headlight bulbs needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

There was no specific "incidence" to report. This is an on-going issue for a long time. Low beam headlights do not illuminate the road sufficiently for safe driving. Have had it to the dealer to insure the lights are adjusted to spec, but it was no better. Asked that they raise the beams; while a little better isibility, oncoming traffic was blinded and flashing me to lower the beams. Had the lights adjusted back to spec. I am now afraid to drive it at night in unlit areas - you just cannot see the road and easily outrun the reach of these poor lights.

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at night at various speeds with the low beam headlights activated, there was a shadow reflecting on the roadway. The driver’s side headlight illumination was distorted. Additionally, it was difficult to keep the vehicle on the highway. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 26,200.

Just purchased this vehicle yesterday 8/10/2021. Drove it home at night. there were significant blindspots, and a shadow in the headlight beam. Headlights only illuminated the bottom half of the of the beam hemispheres. This engineering defect is a danger to the driver and passengers in the vehicle, as well as pedestrians and other vehicles. Have reported the issue to dealers sales manager. Will return to the dealership tomorrow in search of a resolution

I PURCHASED THIS CAR OCTOBER 2019. I NOTICED THE LED HEADLIGHTS WERE A BIT DIMMER AND NOT AS BRIGHT AS THEY WERE WITH MY PREVIOUS CAR, WHICH WAS A 2017 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH LED HEADLIGHTS. THERE IS A PROMINENT DARK HALF MOON SHAPED SPOT IN THE SPREAD OF THE LIGHT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. ALSO, I NOTICED AS TIME WENT ON THE HEADLIGHTS APPEARED TO BE SHINING CLOSER TO THE GROUND AND BARELY ILLUMINATING ROAD SIGNS COMPARED TO OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. ONE NIGHT I WAS DRIVING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND ALMOST HIT SOMEONE WALKING BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHT DIDN'T SHINE ON THE PERSON UNTIL I WAS RATHER CLOSE AND THE LIGHT FINALLY REACHED THE REFLECTOR PART OF THE PERSONS SNEAKER; I ENDED UP HAVING HIT THE BREAKS AND SWERVE. THIS IS DEFINITELY MUCH MORE NOTICEABLE SITTING AT A RED LIGHT WHILE CARS PASS IN FRONT OF YOU. YOU CAN SEE OTHER CARS LIGHTS SHINE ONTO THE DOORS OF CARS CROSSING THE INTERSECTION. MINE BARELY GETS THE DOOR AND SEEMS TO SHINE UNDER A CAR, SAME WHEN I AM BEHIND SOMEONE THE LIGHTS SHINE VIRTUALLY BELOW THE BUMPER COMPARED TO OTHERS THAN CAN SHINE ALMOST DIRECTLY TO THE PLATE. ALSO ANOTHER ISSUE I NOTICED IS THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE THE HOUSE NUMBERS ON MAILBOX TUBES, COMPARED TO MY OTHER VEHICLE ILLUMINATED THESE ALONG WITH THE STREET SIGNS NO PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID MY LIGHTS WERE ANGLED LOW AND RAISED THEM. THIS HAS SHOWN A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT. THERE IS SOMETHING DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THESE HEADLIGHTS AS OTHER HAVE SAID ON HERE. PLEASE HAVE HYUNDAI RECALL THIS MODEL BEFORE A TERRIBLE INJURY HAPPENS UP TO AND INCLUDING DEATH TO THE DRIVER AND THOSE WITH THEM AND AROUND THEM ON THE ROADS. NOT ADDRESSING THIS SERIOUSLY COULD LEAD TO A LAWSUIT THAT WILL COST THEM A LOT MORE MONEY COMPARED TO FINDING A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. PLEASE HAVE HYUNDAI LOOK INTO THIS FURTHER AND COMPARE THE LIGHTS TO OTHER CARS IN IT'S CLASS.

Factory paint on my 2019 Hyundai Sonata (white Z05 warranty) is peeling on metal panels. Hyundai acknowledges paint failure under the Z05 warranty extension and directed me to authorized repair shops. When I contacted these Hyundai-referred shops, they stated they do not blend horizontal panels such as hood/roof/deck lid and would instead tint or use trim to disguise color differences. Hyundai corporate confirmed in writing that tinting alone does not meet Hyundai OEM repair standards, and that blending should be used when needed for proper color matching. Independent body shops also confirmed blending is required for a proper repair, with documented estimates ranging from $3,064 to $10,378.92 for OEM-level refinishing. Being offered tint-only/spot repairs without blending leaves exposed primer and will lead to corrosion and metal degradation over time. This raises a potential safety concern due to loss of corrosion protection on structural panels. Documentation from Hyundai corporate, repair quotes, and shop responses are available upon request.

Hi. This is [XXX] My car has white paint peeling issue and complained to Hyundai but they denied my request. I saw so many white color hyundai and kia paint peeling issue. I can’t understand why they have not a recall service. This is a clearly manufacturer’s fault and responsibility. I think NHTSA should order hyundai to issue a recall immediately. I was on a weekend Road trip and my driver's side wheel bearing went out. My car was at 56,000 miles at the time. I was 2 hours away from home and the dealership was closed. I went to a local licensed/certified mechanic who verified it was dangerous to drive with a broken bearing. They then fixed it for me so we could safely arrive at our destination. I was still covered under power train warranty. I was told if I had it inspected by the Dealership and it was verified it was done correctly I would be reimbursed. It was inspected and verified, but they decided they won't reimburse me anyway. They said it wasn't a recall. Yet the bearing is supposed to be good for 85k to 100k miles and it broke at 56k miles.

Is anything being done about the known oil consumption issues with the 2019 Sonatas? My daughter bought the car used -- it currently has 70,000 -- but Hyundai won't do anything because she is the second owner and those cars don't get 100,000 protection, they only get 60,000. It just doesn't seem right.

Car has 39,495 miles. First owner of vehicle. Have advised dealership since 2024 that there was a oil issue as i have only went to them for oil changes. I advised that as they can see the car is barely driven and the oil is disappearing. They claimed nothing was wrong and made me pay for a oil change again. Come this year, I advise again there is a issue, they tried to have me pay for a oil change again and I advised something else needs done. They argued I was not the first owner and the car was not in warranty however I bought the car from their lot and I am the original owner. Then they stated I had to pay for another oil change for the oil consumption. Then they claimed they would just do the oil consumption and then to drive 1,000 miles and bring it back. After the oil consumption engine light is on. I drove 1,000 miles, brought it back and the engine failed the test. The dealership changed the engine. 5 days later engine light is on, car is stalling and brake locked up, then car would not start and was smoking under the hood. Car was then towed to the dealership. They claimed nothing is wrong and they reset the code for the engine light to go away. They stated evap code was on but was not persistent so it's fine. Few days later engine light comes on again and once the car has been running, you shut it off go to start it again it won't start unless you have it sit for a while. I Take it back to the dealership they point next to the engine saying a purge valve, but the wants money for a diagnostic. They do the diagnostic and still provide maybes, as they claim the filler neck is rusted and corrosion. I take the car to another place who states the filler neck is fine.

I have had issues with oil consumption in this vehicle for about 4 years. I started getting a "Knock Sensor" code. I replaced the knock sensor and still had problems. Hyundai had a recall and they reprogrammed my computer board. A year later I was having the same issues. My car started stalling out. Took back to the dealership they said my engine had sludge and now they're saying that there is a hole in my engine. Hyundai is saying that I don't qualify for assistance.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Since april 2025 i’ve been having low oil readings in my vehicle despite regular oil changes I took it into the dealer since my vehicle was still under warranty, which they stated only one part was under warranty. I had to pay $800 after this was replaced. I started having engine light come on. This engine light when I paid a diagnostic fee I learned that the cylinder three was misfiring. It was suggested that I have an oil change and get the oil level checked again within a week. This was done and it was determined that it was burning too much oil. I submitted this to the insurance and was told that this was not covered that there must be another reason why this was not working the way it should. 3 weeks ago Then I was asked to replace the spark plugs and coils. These were replaced for an additional cost of approximately $300. After replacing this, the check engine light gave the same condition of third cylinder damage.. And the oil level continue to decrease The vehicle was left with the dealer for approximately 10 days. They stated that the engine needed to be cleaned due to possible carbon buildup for about $800 then they stated that the spark plugs and coils needed to be replaced with a specific brand and not the type that Was previously used. Then my vehicle was returned to me, performing sluggishly with the check engine light returning with the same condition of third cylinder misfire. An inspection is available. How was your safety put at risk? The possibility engine failure away from hom Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes twice Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes frequently over the last 2 months

I purchased a 2019 Hyundai Sonata SE in December 2024. Within one month, the vehicle consumed 3.5 quarts of oil out of a 5-quart capacity. After researching the issue, I discovered that this is a known engine defect covered under Hyundai Technical Service Bulletin 23-EM-008H, which relates to excessive oil consumption. This condition can lead to engine failure, posing a significant safety risk if the engine fails while driving at high speeds or in traffic. This issue is part of an active class-action lawsuit and has affected numerous vehicles with the same engine type. I am reporting this defect so that the NHTSA can track the scope of the problem and determine whether a recall should be issued.

Car has a rod knock, has been looked at by a private mechanic, seen online there was a recall on Hyundai Sonatas for rod knock issues.
Aug 31, 2024
Car consumes excessive oil – one quart about every 500-700 miles. This has caused sludge in the engine and the car hesitates significantly on starting from a stopped position and now hesitates even at highway speeds. This has become a definite safety issue. If the car stalls it is only a matter of time before I am hit by another driver. The dealer first stated the oil consumption was fine IF it was one quart every 1,000 miles and that no repairs would be needed. My car is consuming almost double that amount of oil. Dealership agreed to look at it; stated the car needs a new engine. Hyundai refused to even do an oil consumption test, let alone repair/replace the engine. The “sludge” in the oil that Hyundai states was present is a result of the oil consumption (even the dealer service department verbally agreed). I’m literally putting new oil in it about once a week! There is no possibility this would NOT cause sludge. In addition, dealership said to expect the engine to fail fairly soon. Hyundai claims the car was not maintained properly; however, that is untrue. I’ve submitted records to them that I had. The warranty has no requirement that the oil must be changed or maintained by a certain individual or company. Without a new engine, the car will continue to hesitate and will eventually fail. Hesitation (and especially engine failure) subjects me to a much higher possibility of a crash causing injury or death to myself or someone else. Hyunadai should absolutely recall the thousands of vehicles having this exact same issue.

Around the 70,000 to 80,000 mile range, I began to notice that I needed more frequent oil changes. Additionally, when making turns, the oil pressure light would illuminate. I reported these concerns to the service manager, Steve Purvis, at Noblesville Hyundai, who advised that the light simply indicated the need for an oil change. Due to the ignorance of Steve Purvis, I took my vehicle to Hyundai of Carmel, where the issue was not addressed until I reached 97,000 miles. During this time, the valve covers were replaced twice, yet there were no active leaks, and the problem persisted. Hyundai subsequently denied my request for an oil consumption test to further diagnose the issue. I then took my vehicle to a different shop, where a mini oil consumption test revealed that my car burned over 2 quarts of oil from Friday to Monday. Additionally, my start/stop system has ceased functioning, preventing me from starting the vehicle. I have also noted that there are open recalls for Hyundai vehicles, yet my VIN is not recognized under these recalls. I have incurred significant expenses related to these ongoing issues. My safety has been put to risk because the oil can burn completely out and cause the car to break down in the middle of traffic like it has before. Hyundai dealership has confirmed the car has an oil burning issue, as well as an independent shop by the name of Auto Tech in Indianapolis. Auto Tech has also confirmed that the start/stop system is causing my car to not start. The oil pressure light is not consistent when my oil gets low. Some times it comes on, other times it does not.

SEAT BELTS
2 complaints
Drivers side seat belt strap does not retract back when removed and has faulty latch which sometimes pops out. Dealer told us that because the car had over 60,000 miles on it that we would be responsible for payment to replace the pretensions and other internal parts plus the latch. This car was bought new in 2019 and had only been involved in one accident which the seat belt was not used due to the fact that the car was parked when it was struck. Since this is a safety issue which could result in my death or serious injury in the event of a vehicle accident I am taking a chance evey time i drive this vehicle. The approximate cost according to hyundai would be around $1800.00 - $2000.00. I consider this a manufacturer defect that hyundai should replace and be responsible for the cost. They refuse to fix this issue unless I pay for the repair. I never heard of a seat belt having a mileage cut off at any amount of mileage. Please advise me if you can enforce safety defect repair to be paid for by hyundai. If you are not able to hold hyundai liable I would appreciate any entity that you may know of that can make them replace for free the defective belt and latch. I'm afraid to drive this car without a working seat belt on the drivers side nor do I have the outrageous money for it to be repaired at my expense.

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while she was at a red light, another vehicle crashed into the back of her vehicle however, the seat belt failed to retract, causing the contact to suffer whiplash and a bump to her knees against the dashboard behind the steering wheel. A police report was filed. The contact stated she was able to drive the vehicle to her residence, where she noticed she had sustained injuries on her legs and her right leg was swollen, as well as multiple other injuries. The contact sought medical attention. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the driver’s side seat belt was replaced however, the seat belt was still not latching securely. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact to drive the vehicle up to a certain speed and step on the brake pedal to see if the seat belt would operate as needed. The contact did so, and the seat belt operated as needed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to mail photos of the vehicle and other documents. The contact provided the needed documentation as requested. The approximate failure mileage was 12,246.

My vehicle was stolen from in front of my home. The "alarm" did not sound or go off at all. The area where my key should enter was removed, vandalized, and then an iphone charger was used to start my car via a USB port that is located somewhere within that area. Apparently, this is a tictok trend that has been in the works for a while and targets Hyundais.Yet, there has been no response from Hyundai to recall Sonatas or Elantras to remedy this issue. Now I am being forced to pay for repairs on a vehicle that was used for illegal activities and again have to place my family in. I do not feel safe in this situation and I am most likely privy to fall victim again until this issue is resolved.

Failed Component: Engine - Burnt Valve/ Snapped Piston/ Piston Scrapping Internally; available for inspection - Risk of safety: Car sputters/jerks upon acceleration, takes a long time to gain speed, STALLS when slowing or stopping, may or not start after stalling, violently shakes while driving - Problem has been confirmed by Hyundai dealer/repair - Component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative; only Hyundai repair - Warning lamp, messages, and symptom PRIOR to failure, NO, after the failure, YES; check engine light and all symptoms listed above; all appeared approximately September 15, 2024. Since the purchase of the vehicle in January 2024, I have made complaint regarding the performance of the vehicle. Have had multiple oil changes/fill ups within the last 7 months, due to excessive oil consumption. Vehicle has had scheduled maintenance, several diagnostics, and too many trips to the dealership/repair for a 5 year old vehicle, with regular maintenance, and 3 owners. I have owned the vehicle for less than a year and I am UNABLE TO DRIVE IT DUE TO HYUNDAI STATING IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. It stalls when slowing and stopping, which it may or may not start back up - this happened a few times in the middle of traffic. It will not gain speed appropriately when moving from a complete stop, inhibiting me from keeping up with traffic. It shakes violently while accelerating, causing mishandling and ability to steer effectively.

I have had to change my spark plugs 3 times since May due to the fact that I keep getting oil in them. My car also goes through an excessive amount of oil. Within 2 weeks of having my oil changed I had to start adding more oil. But it does not ever have any on the ground under my car. My piston oil rings are not keeping oil out of the area where my spark plugs are located.

TIRES
1 complaint
I own a 2019 Hyundai Sonata with an original manufacturer set of 205/65 R16 95H Kumho Solus TA31 tires on it. I noticed around a month ago that all 4 of the tires have cracks in between the treads, mostly on the outer and inner treads of the 4 tread areas. These cracks are all around and significant. I am afraid to drive on them. I have brought this defect to the attention of Kumho tires over the phone and to the dealership I bought my car from. There is approximately 34,000 miles currently on my car. These tires are supposed to rated for 60,000 miles. They are trying to tell me that they will not warranty their tires with ozone or weather cracking over 4 years old from the date of the tire manufacture stamped on the tire. I believe this is not weather related. I believe it is a defect in the tire and they are trying to blame weather. Even if the problem is what they call "weather" related that should not preclude a consumer/purchaser of a vehicle with their tires on it from pursuing a claim. Their tires should be able to withstand any "weather" and if not they should inform consumers as such. This is a "safety" issue and should NOT be taken lightly. I would like the NHTSA to investigate this issue further. Thank you.

The vehicle consumes a gallon of oil weekly. The spark plugs are having to be replaced every three months. The Low beams have been replaced and are working but the headlights are completely out and flashes on the dash board. I have Hi beam’s only. There is an electrical issue with the vehicle and is very dangerous to drive with the oil leaks that are continuously happening.

Airbag light came on. Car is in otherwise perfect shape (red flag). Brought to Hyundai dealer. Was told it was a short somewhere on front passenger side. But it will cost $250 to figure out where. Then possibly over $1000 to fix it!! Upon researching it I found many complaints on same issue on otherwise normal good condition sonata’s. Clearly they used inferior components designed to fail. Similar to their stealable cars (with a USB cable) I’m sure you’re fermi liar with. They hid that until TIC TOK put out videos showing how to. They HAD TO fix it due to owners auto insurance going up (way up). I can’t afford to repair this pressing safety issue. Hyundai should be held responsible for using knowingly faulty parts in their air bag system then charging customer large $ just to make an otherwise perfectly running car safe to operate. Oh, then they said they’d offer me a “loaner” till fixed. But their “loner” costs $50 per day!! That’s a RENTAL not a loaner.

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag warning light had been illuminated. The contact stated that while pulling on the seat belt, the warning light was deactivated; however, the warning light activated shortly after. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Starting in July 2023 I have noticed that the oil consumption for my car is racing through the engine. I barely make it 1000 miles before the oil is completely gone. After 2 local oil changes - I decided to take it to the Hyundai dealer where I purchased the car. This was in October - I have brought my car in 4 times for 1000 mile oil consumption tests. I had to add an additional visit due to the fact that Hyundai changed the testing standards. Now I have to bring it again today - Hyundai has not told me what the next step is other than I have to leave the car there all day - after they speak to tech support they will determine next steps. Most likely a combustion cleaning. Then I have to start the 1000 mile consumption tests again. I live 35 mins from the dealer - I have had to hire someone to take me there to leave car - and I then have to take mass transit to work. There are never any loaners because they are booked months in advance. I have had to rent numerous cars for long distance travel due to the mileage meter of 1000 miles on my car - I am not allowed to go over - if I do have to start all over again. That happened to me the first time. My car is crap at this point - I am not able to use it as I should be able to and Hyundai is giving us the run around. I have been contacted about trading it in and getting a new Hyundai - what a scam. I am not the only person - there are so many of us - follow the chats on Facebook and Reddit - nobody is helping us. The staff said if your engine seizes - that would be great. People are seizing on highways - that is very scary to me. Why is this not recalled yet?

Everything was displayed in red on the front screen, it was automatically parked, and the steering wheel did not move. This happened late March/02/2024 last Saturday night, so I called AAA twice and had them toward to my house. March/04/2024 I called AAA on Monday and had my car toward to hyundai service. They gave me a $199.95 bill for finding the problem with my car. And they said they would contact me and let me know about the problem with my car in 3~4 days. I am an Uber driver, but I am currently unable to work because I don't have a car.

ENGINE,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
1 complaint
A hairline crack from the engine oil drain plug causing leaking oil. This is a very common issue for this engine. Mine was present when the car was new. My local dealer claimed my car has run over something, which never happened. No dent or damages on the oil pan, just crack on the side of pan. This is very common issue for this engine. Low engine oil level will cause engine failure.

This vehicle was bought brand new from West Broad Hyundai in Richmond , VA. I was financing this vehicle had it for almost two years before it was stolen. The police said it was a couple of teenagers. I lost thousands of dollars almost 2 years worth of car payments. I think Hyundai should be accountable because they nevar notified me these vehicles were easily stolen. I lost two years of car payments. I still owe 1,000 to Capital One because my insurance company didn’t fully payoff this loan. Please help: I lost allot of money had to come up with a down payment for a 2019 Hyundai Tucson. This vehicle has the same problem with it can be easily stolen. My information is Mary Chanberlain 6700 Veritas Way 1-B N Chesterfield 23234 804-2411844

STEERING,ENGINE
1 complaint
The car was stolen, one of the vehicles that Hyundai manufactured without an Engine Immobilizer, making it very easy to steal. Consumers didn't know about this defect, because the corrupt automaker kept us in the dark. I'm fairly certain that by breaking the steering column to expose the port to start the car, that driving the speed limit or having control of the vehicle was on the thieves mind. The safety of my neighbors and anyone they were driving would have had their safety compromised. The vehicle is currently being repaired cosmetically. The Engine Immobilizer will not be installed by the body shop. It was inspected by a certified repair shop of State Farm. No warning lights were illuminated.

Unknown. This has happened a couple times now. It will accelerate on its own even when trying to brake. Extremely dangerous.

The transmission in my vehicle makes a whine when shifting at about 35-40 miles per hour. No other car I ever drove made that noise. Hyundai has replaced the transmission 3 times and they still could not fix it. After the third replacement they said it's normal and that other Sonatas make that noise. That cannot be true. They did not replace the transmission 3 times if that noise is normal. If it IS true and other Sonatas make that noise, there may be a defect that will turn dangerous in other Sonatas. The second time the transmission was replaced, the service manager told me they found metal fragments in the transmission fluid. I don't know what problem this defect will cause later on. If you would like to inspect my car to determine if this is dangerous, I can make it available. Thanks! P.S. - Below, I have to pick a date of the incident and mileage at that time (so I chose when I first reported it to Hyundai), but this happens every time I drive the car.
