I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY AUTOMATICD TRUNK RELEASE NOT WORK AS WELL AS MY DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW NOT WORKING. MY CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS 12 YEARS OLD, HOWEVER IT ONLY HAS 64,000. I HAVE TALKED WITH OTHER TIBURON OWNERS WHO HAVE AND ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I SEE NO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE FOR THIS ISSUE. MY CONCERN IS WE HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL SALVAGE PLACES TO LOOK FOR A MOTOR AND THE TIBURONS WHICH WERE ON PROPERTY ALL HAD THE WINDOW MOTORS SOLD ALREADY. AFTER STOPPING BEHIND A LINE OF STOPPED CARS, I SLOWLY REMOVED MY FOOT FROM BRAKE PEDAL (HAVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) AND LOOKED INTO MY REVIEW MIRROR AS CAR IN FRONT OF ME BEGAN MOVING. SUDDENLY I HEARD MY ENGINE RACE AND IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED INTO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BEFORE I COULD REACT. MY CAR LOOKS LIKE I HIT SOMETHING GOING AT LEAST 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WAS ONLY 6 - 8 FEET IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I HAD STARTED TO REMOVE MY FOOT OFF MY BRAKE PEDAL. ALL HAPPENED SO QUICKLY - WAS AS IF MY CAR JUST "LEAPED" FORWARD. STATE POLICE AND TOW OPERATOR BOTH STARTED UP MY VEHICLE AND NOTED THAT ENGINE RACING WHILE THROTTLE PEDAL WAS IN NORMAL POSITION. THE ENTIRE CLUTCH SYSTEM IN MY 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON GT FAILED WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE SHIFTING UP A HILL. MY UNDERSTANDING IS IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH SYSTEM WHICH HYUNDAI HAS APPARENTLY KNOWN ABOUT SINCE THE MODEL RELEASE. EVEN THOUGH THERE HAD BEEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM FOR THIS EXACT MATTER, HYUNDAI DOES NOT SEEM TO THINK THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING IT. THIS COMPONENT SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE RECALLED AND HYUNDAI HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR FAILING THEIR CUSTOMERS AND THEN CHARGING UPWARDS OF $3000 TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT THEY KNOW EXISTS. BECAUSE THE CLUTCH SYSTEM IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROPULSION OF THE VEHICLE, HAVING FAULTY ONES ON THE ROAD IS AN EXTREME HAZARD. MINE FAILED WHILE SHIFTING UP A HILL ON A NORMALLY BUSY ROAD. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC THAT DAY AND I HAD A PARKING LOT CLOSE BY TO COAST INTO. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI TIBURON 2003 CLUTCHES. MY 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL BROKE ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS SINCE I BOUGHT IT. AT AROUND 10,000 MILES, AT AROUND 30,000 MILES AND AT AROUND 50,000 MILES. EACH TIME THE HYUNDAI DEALER TOLD ME IT BROKE BECAUSE I'M A POOR DRIVER, HOWEVER THIS IS JUST NOT TRUE AND IT APPEARS TO ALSO BE A PROBLEM WITH EVERYONE ELSE WHO BOUGHT THIS MODEL AS WELL. I HAVE JOINED THE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST HYUNDAI FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE CLUTCHES WHICH WAS RECENTLY AWARDED MONEY FOR WHICH I AM FILING A CLAIM FORM. HOWEVER, I AM CONTACTING YOU NOW BECAUSE I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I WAS ON DANGEROUS HIGHWAYS TWO OF THE THREE TIMES THIS HAPPENED AND WAS PUT IN VERY PRECARIOUS SITUATIONS. THE SECOND TIME THE CLUTCH WENT OUT IT JUST COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. THE PEDDLE WENT INTO THE FLOOR AND I ONLY BARELY HAD THE MOMENTUM TO CARRY ME OVER A HILL AND GLIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN GOING BACKWARDS DOWN THE HILL OR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A FAST MOVING HIGHWAY. FURTHERMORE, THIS LEFT ME STRANDED IN A VERY BAD AREA OF TOWN FOR SEVERAL HOURS WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK. ANOTHER TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS ON AN UPHILL CURVED INTERSTATE RAMP WHICH WAS BRINGING ME TO MERGE FROM THE BELTWAY TO ANOTHER INTERSTATE AND INSTEAD OF LOSING THE CLUTCH COMPLETELY AT ONCE, I COULD JUST BARELY GO 30MPH (AND DETERIORATING) AND WAS TRYING TO MAKE IT UP THE HILL AND MERGE AS CARS WERE ZOOMING BY ME. WHILE THIS CLUTCH ISSUE MAY NOT BE AS DETRIMENTAL OF A SAFETY CONCERN AS FOR EXAMPLE BRAKE FAILURE, IT STILL PUT ME IN A VERY SCARY SITUATION. IT SERIOUSLY CONCERNS ME THAT HYUNDAI HAS NOT RECALLED THESE CLUTCHES, DESPITE THE FACT THAT BASED ON THE RECENT SETTLEMENT THEY ARE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND HYUNDAI KNOWS THEY ARE DEFECTIVE. *TR

THE AIRBAG IN MY CAR IS ON PERMANENTLY. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS. IT IS CAUSED BY A WIRING PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT BUCKLE UNDER THE SEAT.I WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I REPLACED THE SEATBELT BUCKLE AND WITHIN A MONTH THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS BACK ON.

NOTICED AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON IN MY SON'S CAR WHEN I DROVE OVER THE WEEKEND. LOOKED ONLINE FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2003-2008 TIBRUONS IN REGARDS TO AIR BAG/DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE SAFETY ISSUE. CALLED HYUNDAI 1-800 TO NO AVAIL TOOK TO COLUMBIA HYUNDAI DEALER TODAY. THEY STATED WAS DRIVER SIDE BELT BUCKLE WHICH WAS MAKING AIR BAG LIGHT COME ON AND WANTED $397 TO REPAIR. I TOLD THEM IS SAFETY ISSUE ALREADY $14 MILLION LAWSUIT AGAINST HYUNDAI FOR SAME THING THEY TOLD ME TO COME GET CAR. CALLED BACK HYUNDAI SERVICE JUST A FEW MINUTES AGO. THEY REFUSED ANY HELP. *TR

FIRST INCIDENT: BLOWER MOTOR FOR HEAT QUIT WORKING. FOUND CONNECTOR (CLIMATE CONTROL SIDE) HAD MELTED REPLACED WITH USED CLIMATE CONTROL. NOVEMBER 2010. BLOWER MOTOR HAD QUIT WORKING AGAIN FOUND SAME CONNECTOR AS WELL AS BODY HARNESS SIDE CONNECTOR HAD MELTED. REPLACED WITH USED HARNESS AND CLIMATE CONTROL. NOVEMBER 2010 TO DECEMBER 2014 VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STAY ON WHEN LIGHTS WERE SHUT OFF. JANUARY 26 2015 WHILE DRIVING DASH LIGHTS, RADIO, TAIL LIGHTS, WINDOWS, TURN SIGNALS. INTERMITTENTLY TURNING OFF AND ON. FOUND CLIMATE CONTROL HARNESS SIDE MELTED AGAIN, ALSO BODY CONTROL MODULE AND POWER WIRE TO HAVE MELTED. AFTER SEARCHING THESE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS MELTING APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO CHECK THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY THE SEAT BELT AND WIRING THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER CHECKING THE RECALL INFORMATION, THERE WAS A RECALL (056) UNDER CAMPAIGN NUMBER 02V290000. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT FOR MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS A 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND SPOKE WITH THEIR REP AND SHE SAID THE SAME EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL INCLUDES 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURONS. THIS FIX WILL COST ME CLOSE TO $400.00 JUST TO PASS INSPECTION. MAKES YOU WONDER WHAT WAS DONE ON VEHICLES PRODUCED AFTER MARCH 2003 THAT WAS CLAIMED TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE, CONSIDERING SO MANY TIBURONS THAT WERE PRODUCED AFTER THIS DATE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I CO-OWN THIS CAR WITH MY DAUGHTER. THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. WE FOUND OUT ABOUT SAFETY RECALL 02V290000 WHICH SPECIFIED THAT ON 2003 TIBURONS THE DRIVER SEAT BELT BUCKLE COULD BE DAMAGED BY THE HEIGHT ADJUSTER MECHANISM, RESULTING IN FAILURE OF THE AIR BAG OR THE PERMANENT LIGHTING OF THE AIR BAG LIGHT WITH FAILURE TO DEPLOY ON IMPACT. THE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX IT BECAUSE HYUNDAI CLAIMS THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY MARCH 2003 AND WILL NOT AGREE TO FIX CARS MANUFACTURED AFTERWARD. HYUNDAI PROTECTION PLAN REFUSED TO COVER REPAIR BECAUSE THEY SAY THIS IS PART OF THE CARS RESTRAINT SYSTEM EXCLUDED BY THE WARRANTY. PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED JAN 2009. PROBLEM HAS NOW RECURRED IN SEPT 2010 AND DEALER SAYS I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR AGAIN BECAUSE PARTS AND SERVICE ARE ONLY COVERED FOR 12 MONTHS. The contact owns a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. The contact stated that while attempting to refuel the vehicle, gasoline started spilling from the filler neck. The contact stated that the vehicle was refueling very slowly. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the fuel tank detached from the vehicle. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V369000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) and 04V178000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The contact stated that the interior door handles had detached from the vehicle The ABS warning light was also illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer who replaced the fuel tank; however, the other repairs were not performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.

IT WILL CONTINUALLY SHUT OFF EVERY FEW .3 GALLONS AND MAKES IT VERY COMPLICATED TO GET GAS. INTERIOR OF CAR HAS STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL TANK. 1. CANISTER CLOSE VALVE COULD BE CLOGGED WITH CHARCOAL OR NOT WORKING 2. CANISTER FILTER MAY NEED REPLACEMENT 3. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION TO THE CLOSE VALVE MAY BE BROKEN 4. CANISTER MAY BE DAMAGED 5. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE CLUTCH HAS GONE OUT. THE FIRST TIME WAS ON MAY 2003 AND I PURCHASED THE CAR IN AUGUST OF 2002. HYUNDAI FLAT OUT REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND AFTER MUCH HASSLE THEY PAID TO FIX IT. THIS SECOND TIME THE CLUTCH WENT OUT IN AUGUST 2003. HYUNDAI IS NOT WANTING TO PAY TO REPLACE CLUTCH. AFTER DOING MUCH RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL CLASS ACTIONS AGAINST HYUNDAI REGARDING THE CLUTCH ISSUE. I HAVE 85K ON THIS CAR AND IT HAS HAD CLUTCH ISSUES SINCE ABOUT 1800 MILES. THE ENTIRE CLUTCH AND FLY WHEEL WAS REPLACED AT 27,618 MILES AND AGAIN AT 60K AND NOW AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS THE "DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL". THEY KNOW AND ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCH AND EXPLAIN IT AWAY AS THE WAY THE USER DRIVES. BUT, HOW CAN THOUSANDS DRIVE SO BAD THAT A CLUTCH LAST ONLY 27K MILES? MY HUSBAND DIED 2 WEEKS AFTER THE CAR BROKE DOWN OUT OF TOWN WITH THE 2ND CLUTCH REPLACEMENT. UPON USING THE TURN SIGNAL ON MY 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON GT, THE SIGNAL LIGHT WOULD PAUSE AND SEEM TO "STICK" IN THE ON POSITION INSIDE OF THE CAR. A FEW MONTHS LATER DURING COLD WEATHER IT WOULD JUST STOP WORKING AND YOU COULD SEE IT WAS STRUGGLING. SHUT IT OFF 10 MIN LATER WOULD BE WORKING AGAIN. (OBVIOUS MOTOR PROBLEM). TOOK IT IN TO DEALERSHIP, AGAIN COULD NOT VERIFY. IT CONTINUED HAPPENING DURING COLDER WEATHER, MUST HAVE TAKEN IN AT LEAST 3 TIMES. THEY COULD NEVER VERIFY. I WORK FOR A GM DEALERSHIP AND AFTER ONLY READING THE COMPLAINT I HAVE WRITTEN I WOULD ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND REPLACED THE PART. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON ON THE DASH OF MY 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON BECAUSE OF A BROKEN WIRE UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. THE OTHER DAY I TOOK MY 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON IN TO BE SERVICED. I NOTICED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE NEXT DAY I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE NEEDED ANOTHER CLUTCH. THIS WOULD BE MY THIRD CLUTCH IN THREE YEARS CONSIDERING I HARDLY DRIVE MY VEHICLE HARD. THEY ALSO PROCEEDED TO SELL ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH WAS SUPPOSE TO COVER FOR BRAKES, HOWEVER WHEN I TOOK IT TO A HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER THEY CONTACTED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER FOR THE BRAKES TO BE REPAIRED AS THEY WERE AFTER MARKET BRAKES ON THE CAR. IT IS CLEARLY OBVIOUS THAT THIS CAR WAS NOT INSPECTED BY CREST HONDA PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE. I HAVE READ SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT CREST HONDA AND CUSTOMERS HAVING FAULTY BRAKES ON USED CARS THAT THEY PURCHASE FROM THEM. WE ARE FORTUNATE THAT WE NOTICED THE PROBLEM WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AS THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE NOT CATCHING AND ONLY THE FRONT BRAKES WERE OPERATIONAL ON THE CAR.

HELLO, I'M 26YRS OLD. I OWN A 2003 TIBURON GT V6 6SPEED WITH LESS THAN 80,000 MILES. I BOUGHT IT OFF OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER WITH ONLY 9,000 MILES. WITHIN THE 70,000 MILES I'VE DRIVEN IT, IT'S HAD THREE CLUTCHES.? I'VE OWNED ALL MANUAL DRIVEN CARS SINCE I WAS 16, I LEARNED HOW TO DRIVE WITH ONE. WE ALL KNOW I BURNED THAT CLUTCH UP A LITTLE BIT YET I STILL DIDN'T BURN THAT CLUTCH OUT. THE FIRST CLUTCH I HAD TO REPLACE I PAID FOR THE PARTS. HYUNDAI TOOK CARE OF THE LABOR WHICH WAS NICE BUT, I STILL HAD TO PAY FOR A PART THAT I WASN'T AT FAULT FOR RUINING. NOW I'M ON MY THIRD CLUTCH, I HAD TO PAY FOR THIS ONE IN FULL BECAUSE I'M THE SECOND OWNER AND HYUNDAI ONLY COVERS 60,000 MILES. AS OF 01\06\09 THIS ONE IS NO LONGER WORKING. THERE HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURES DEFECT OF SOME KIND. ON JULY 04 2003, WE PURCHASED A 2003 NEW HYUNDAI TIBURON FROM PHILPOTT MOTORS IN NEDERLAND. THE VIN[XXX]. IT STARTED ON DEC 19, 20031 WHEN THE PASSENGER WINDOW MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THEN, ON DEC. 22, 20031 THE VEHICLE HAD A COOLANT LEAK THAT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. ON FEBRUARY 16, 2004 THE CLUTCH WENT OUT ALL OF A SUDDEN WITH ANY WARNING. TO APRIL OF 2003. IN WHICH ALL THE PARTS THEY REPLACED HAVE A PRODUCTION DATE OF APRIL 2003. IN AUGUST OF 2004 SEVEN MONTHS LATER THE CLUTCH WENT OUT AGAIN ON IH10 DURING NOON TRAFFIC THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT. THE MECHANIC AT TRANSMISSION EXCHANGE TOLD HIM THAT WAS NOT THE CASE AND THAT HE STATED THAT THE SLAVE CYLINDER WAS PROBABLY BENT PRIOR TO THEIR REPAIRS SIX MONTHS AGO. MY COMPLAINT TO PHILPOTT THAT IF THEY AGREED TO COVER THE SLAVE CYLINDER WHY WOULD THEY NOT COVER ALL THE CHARGES DUE TO THE FACT THIS IS A PULL/PUSH AND IF THE SALVE CYLINDER WAS BENT THAT IT WOULD CAUSE THIS TYPE OF DAMAGE TO THE CLUTCH. THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT COSTING $1,920.85. ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2005 THE BATTERY WENT OUT. . IN AUGUST OF 2005 THE BATTERY WENT OUT AGAIN. ON THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST MY DAUGHTER BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED AND ASKED WHY THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON AND THE TECHNICIAN TOLD HER THE CAR WAS FINE THAT HE DID NOT NOTE ANY PROBLEMS AND THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON BECAUSE IT WAS TELLING HER THAT EVERYTHING WAS WORKING. ON SEPTEMBER 05, THE CLUTCH STARTED SLIPPING AGAIN AND WE HAVE PARKED THE VEHICLE. EVERYONE HAS BEEN TOLD THE EXACT LINE. IT WAS THE DRIVER AND IT'S A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM. VEHICLE EQUIPT WITH LOW PROFILE SPORTS TIRES. WHILE DRIVING ON SR2 IN JERUSELUM TOWNSHIP OHIO I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND BEGAN SKIDDING ON BLACK ICE. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE TO MY KNOWLEDGE AND $9000 DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. REAR AXLE FAILED DURING THE IMPACT INTO AN EMBANKMENT WHICH ABSORBED MUCH OF THE IMPACT. SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AS DESIGNED BUT FRONT DID NOT. I AM ASSUMING THAT THIS IS DUE TO ME SLIDING BACKWARDS UP THE EMBANKMENT WITHOUT ANY DIRECT FRONTAL IMPACT. I WALKED AWAY FROM IT BUT AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE FACT THAT HYUNDAI HAS MARKETED THIS CAR TOWARDS THE YOUNGER "INVINVIBLE" GENERATION WHO DO NOT REALIZE THESE TIRES AREN'T MADE FOR FAST DRIVING IN BAD WEATHER. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN JULY 2002. IT NOW ONLY HAS ALITTLE OVER 8,000 MILES. SINCE I HAVE HAD THIS AUTO I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE DOORS REALIGNED BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE RADIO WOULD JUST GO OUT. THEY REPLACED THE RADIO BUT 3 MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN EXCEPT THIS TIME THE A/C WOULD NOT PUT OUT COLD AIR PROPERLY. COME TO FIND OUT IF I CUT THE A/C OFF, THE RADIO WOULD COME BACK ON. THE LAST FEW TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP I HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR FOR THE DAY. THEY CHECKED OUT EVERYTHING AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING TO CAUSE IT TO BE DOING WHAT IT DOES.
