TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HYUNDAI TIBURON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE TACHOMETER SUDDENLY BEGAN TO INCREASE AND THE SPEEDOMETER DECREASED. THE CONTACT DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND SHIFTED INTO IN A LOWER GEAR BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE DESIGN OF THE FLY WHEEL. DROVE MY HYUNDAI TIBURON NORMALLY SINCE AUGUST 2007 WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. BY JUNE 2008 THE CLUTCH BEGAN TO SLIP, AND PROGRESSIVELY BECOME WORSE AND WOULD SLIP IN ANY GEAR AT ANY RPM. I HAD TO PURCHASE AN AFTERMARKET CLUTCHMASTERS CLUTCH AND FIDANZA FLYWHEEL TO REPLACE THE PREMATURELY FAILED CLUTCH THAT ONLY HAD 20,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

CLUTCH IS MY 2005 HYUNDAI TIBURON IS MALFUNCTIONING, DEALER SAYS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE WEAR AND TEAR PART, AFTER SEARCHING INTERNET FORUMS FOUND THAT ALOT OF CLUTCH/FLYWHEEL PROBLEMS ARE OCCURRING IN SIMILAR VEHICLES FROM HYUNDAI. CAUSE APPEARS TO BE MANUFACTURES DEFECT THAT THEY ARE NOT ADDRESSING. ONLY 60K MILES ON VEHICLE AND HAVE DRIVEN A STICK SHIFT FOR LAST 10 YEARS REGULAR WEAR AND TEAR CLUTCHES WILL WEAR OUT AROUND 75K TO 115K UNDER MY DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR

I BOUGHT A 2005 HYUNDAI TIBURON GT MANUAL TRANSMISSION ON MAY 18, 2007. THE CLUTCH FAILED THE FIRST DAY I BOUGHT THE CAR. CAR LOT AGREED TO PUT NEW CLUTCH IN. THREE MONTHS LATER THE TRANSMISSION BEARINGS BROKE. I REPLACED FLYWHEEL AND HAD TRANSMISSION REBUILT. 2 MONTHS AFTER THAT THE BEARINGS BROKE AGAIN. I HAD HYUNDAI DO THE WORK ON THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. I AM OUT OF POCKET $2,000, NOT TO MENTION THE UPSIDE DOWN AMOUNT I WAS WHEN I HAD TO GET OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THIS CAR, BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO PUT $2,000 IN THE CAR EVERY 3 MONTHS. *TR

I STARTED MY CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 8 A.M. ON 6/26/13 TO GO TO WORK. ONE SECOND AFTER THE ENGINE FIRED, THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG BLEW UP IN MY FACE. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT IN THIS CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME AND ON MY PROPERTY WITH NO EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. AFTER SOME TROUBLESOME NEGOTIATIONS, HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA AGREED TO MAKE A "ONE-TIME GOODWILL REPAIR" OF THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAG COMPONENTS IN EXCHANGE FOR SIGNING MY LIFE AWAY REGARDING THE VEHICLE. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY REPORTED THIS DEFECT TO YOU WHEN I CALLED THEIR REGIONAL OFFICE IN AUSTELL GEORGIA ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT. HOWEVER, I AM REPORTING IT NOW, IN THE HOPE THAT THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO SOMEONE DRIVING DOWN A TEXAS HIGHWAY AT 80 MPH. THEIR FLIPPANT ATTITUDE CONCERNING THIS, TO ME, IS DISTURBING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,500.

SINCE I'VE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, I INITIALLY TOLD THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING. THEY, JEFF WYLER CLAIMED TO HAVE LOOKED AT THE CAR AND STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG. NOW AT 44,000 MILES, ANOTHER DEALER STATES THAT THE TIE RODS HAVE EXCESSIVE WEAR AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 4 YEARS AND STILL NO RESOLUTION. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL, BUT WHEN I CONTACT HYUNDAI, THEY STATE THAT MY CAR DOESN'T FALL INTO THAT RECALL. I AM UPSET AND CONFUSED, THAT A CAR THAT INITIALLY HAD 9700 MILES WHEN PURCHASED IN 2006 THAT NOW HAS 44000 5 YRS LATER HAS EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE TIE RODS. I CONSTANTLY SHAKE FROM NECK UP ON LEFT SIDE. I WISH I WOULD IF DIED IN THE ACCIDENT. THAT'S HOW MUCH IT HAS AFFECTED ME. I STAY IN THE HOUSE BY MYSELF ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. ITS SO EMBARRASSING FOR ME. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY CLUTCH, DUAL FLY WHEEL ENTIRE CLUTCH SYSTEM 3 TIMES NOW IN THE LAST 3 1/2 YEARS. EACH TIME COSTING ME ANYWHERE FROM $2400,- $3,400. NO WAY SHOULD A CLUTCH NEED REPLACED THAT MUCH THAT SOON, EACH CLUTCH LASTED APPROX 13 MONTHS. HYUNDAI WANTS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PROBLEM YET THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING SAME ISSUES. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT. WHO CAN AFFORD THIS MUCH WORK EVERY YEAR? NO ONE. I HAVE SPENT CLOSE TO $10,000 ON 3 CLUTCH JOBS IN 3 YEARS. I'M TAKING IT TO BBB AS WELL.

AROUND 70,000 MILES ON MY 2005 HYUNDAI TIBURON, MY MECHANIC FRIEND NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM I WAS NEEDING A NEW CLUTCH. WE PURCHASED A CLUTCH KIT FROM DURALAST/ZOOM MANUFACTURED THESE PARTS. THE CLUTCH CHANGE IN A HYUNDAI TIBURON IS PRETTY EXPENSIVE AND $1025 WAS THE CHEAPEST I WAS QUOTED. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE RUNNING FINE FOR THREE DAYS AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CLUTCH PEDAL HAD NO RESISTANCE AGAINST IT WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND WOULD ONLY SHIFT IF I "HARD SHIFTED" THE CLUTCH OR IF I PRESSED DOWN ON THE CLUTCH PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD. LUCKILY, THE PEOPLE DRIVING SOUTHBOUND WHILE I TURNED INTO THEIR LANE HAD NARROWLY SWERVED AROUND MY CAR. I COULD ONLY IMAGINE IF THEIR WAS A DIFFERENT VEHICLE COMING SINCE I JUST SO HAPPENED TO BE BABYSITTING MY FRIENDS DAUGHTER THAT DAY! WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE JUST UP THE ROAD TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THE PART WAS "MISLABELED" AND IN THE PROCESS THE CLUTCH WAS PLACED IN THE CAR BACKWARDS. THIS "MISLABELED" CLUTCH IN TURN DAMAGED THE FLYWHEEL, MASTER CYLINDER, AND SLAVE CYLINDER AND I HAD TO PAY $3000 MORE TO GET MY CAR FIXED. AUTO ZONE AND THE HYUNDAI DEALER BOTH TOLD ME TO TALK TO THE MANUFACTURER SINCE THE PART IS "DEFECTIVE". FINALLY, AROUND 6 MONTHS LATER OF CONSTANT PHONE CALLS, I GET A HOLD OF THE RIGHT PEOPLE THROUGH ZOOM MANUFACTURING. THEY OFFERED ME A CHECK FOR $253. WHEN I TALKED TO THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THIS DILEMMA, HE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS ALL THEY CAN DO AND "WE HAVE HONORED THE CLAIM WITHIN THE TERMS AND POLICY WITH OUR CUSTOMER." REGARDLESS OF ZOOM MANUFACTURER'S TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, I WANT TO JUST MAKE SURE THAT THESE PARTS ARE NO LONGER SOLD TO THE POPULATION. I ASKED MANY PEOPLE IN THEIR DEPARTMENT IF THE PART WAS RECALLED SO THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE AND NO ONE GAVE ME AN ANSWER. ALSO, MY CAR IS NOW AT 82,000 MILES AND THE CLUTCH IS ALREADY SLIPPING. *TR

I HAVE AN 05 TIBURON THAT WAS PURCHASED IN OCTOBER OF 05. THE CLUTCH WILL NOT STOP RACING WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. WE TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID THAT THE FLYWHEEL, BARING, AND DISC, ARE DAMAGED AND ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERS UP TO 12,000 MILES AND WE HAVE 16,900 MILES ON THE CAR. MY DAUGHTER USES IT TO DRIVE TO SCHOOL (ABOUT 4 MILES) AND TO WORK (ABOUT 4 MILES). THIS IS RIDICULOUS KNOWING SHE DOESN'T RACE THE CAR OR EVEN KNOWS HOW TO POP A CLUTCH. THE PAINT IS COMING OFF THE GAS COVER; THE SEAT BELT LATCH STICKS; THE DOOR HANDLE SCREWPLATE INSERT COMES OFF AND THE TOP OF THE SHIFTER KNOB STILL COMES OFF AFTER HAVING IT FIXED ONCE BEFORE. WE HAD TO GET THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRED WHEN WE FIRST GOT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. THIS IS ALL THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE SO FAR. I RECENTLY TOOK MY 05 HYUNDAI TIBURON INTO THE ZIMBRICK HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN MADISON WI FOR SERVICE. I AM HAVING ALIGNMENT ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD THEM SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I DISCOVERED FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH CAN CAUSE THE REAR BRAKES TO LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING. THEY STATED THEY HAVE WORKED ON 7 OR 8 RECENTLY WHERE THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ASSEMBLY. I SEE NO RECALLS OR TSB'S ON THIS ISSUE AND IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. I ALSO AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE DEALERSHIP COVERING WARRANTY ISSUES. THERE ARE TSB'S ON MY CAR RELATED TO ALIGNMENT ISSUES THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT AWARE OF OR ARE DENYING EXIST. I CONTINUALLY GET VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THIS DEALER ALONG WITH THE WESTSIDE OF MADISON ZIMBRICK HYUNDAI LOCATION. THEY CONSTANTLY DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO GET THEMSELVES OUT OF HAVING TO PERFORM WARRANTY SERVICES. I HAVE A SEVERE PULL TO THE RIGHT AS OTHER HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THAT HYUNDAI CONSIDERS TO BE NORMAL. I FEEL THAT IT IS SEVERE ENOUGH TO WHERE IT CREATES AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I ALSO HAVE ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR CAUSING EVERY SET OF TIRES I HAVE BOUGHT FOR THE CAR TO ONLY LAST APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES. ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE RELATED TO ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS. HYUNDAI REFUSES TO EVEN LOOK AT UNTIL I AGREE TO PAY FOR IT DUE TO HYUNDAI ONLY COVERING "ADJUSTMENTS" (WHICH ALIGNMENTS APPARENTLY FALL INTO) FOR THE FIRST 12,000 MILES. SO MUCH FOR MY 5 YEAR 60,000 WARRANTY. I HAVE SEEN OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAIN OF SIMILAR DEFECTS IN THE TIBURONS AND DON'T KNOW WHAT IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. I ALSO HAVE OTHER NUMEROUS PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN FIXED ON THIS VEHICLE RANGING FROM ELECTRICAL TO PAINT DEFECTS. I STRONGLY URGE THE NHTSA AND OTHER GOVERNING AGENCIES TO LOOK INTO HYUNDAIS PRACTICES AND DO SOMETHING TO HELP OUT THE CONSUMERS WHO ARE STUCK WITH SUB PAR QUALITY AUTOMOBILES. *NM

I PURCHASED A NEW 2005 HYUNDAI TIBURON ON MARCH 09, 2005 IN CINCINNATI, OHIO. AT ABOUT 9,000 MILES I NOTICED THE CAR WAS BEHAVING DIFFERENTLY. BY 16,000 MILES EVEN I WHO AM NOT MECHANICAL COULD FIGURE OUT THAT THE CLUTCH WAS FAILING. I WAS AMAZED THAT THIS COULD BE THE CASE WITH SO FEW MILES ON IT, HOWEVER. AT THIS TIME I AM LIVING IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SO I CAN SAFELY SAT THAT AT LEAST 2500 OF THOSE MILES WERE ACCUMULATED ON THE INTERSTATE MOVING THE CAR FROM OHIO. THE DEALER IN CATHEDRAL CITY, CA BLAMED ME FOR THE FAILURE IMPLYING THAT I WAS NOT CAPABLE OF DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I, HOWEVER, AM 39 YEARS OLD, HAVE HAD 11 NEW CARS SINCE I BEGAN DRIVING AND ALL OF THEM WERE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THE ONLY TIME I HAVE EVER NEEDED TO HAVE A CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPLACED WAS MY PREVIOUS CAR, A 2000 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT WITH 93,000 MILES (I HAVE THAT DOCUMENTATION). I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE A RECURRING ISSUES EVERY 10-20,000 MILES AT LEAST $1000.00 EACH TIME. THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER FAILED IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THEN IT CERTAINLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. HYUNDAI AGREED TO PAY 60% AS A "GOOD WILL" GESTURE. I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND I HAD NEVER ENCOUNTERED A CLUTCH THAT FAILED SO EARLY ON. THE OTHER MAJOR ISSUE ARE THE TIRES WHICH ARE MICHELIN MXV4 PLUS. I HAVE HAD EVERY ONE REPLACED ONCE AND TWO REPLACED TWICE. THEY DON'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO STAY INFLATED. I PURCHASED A PROTECTION PLAN AFTER THE THIRD REPLACEMENT BUT I AM WORRIED ABOUT ONE OF THE TIRES GOING FLAT LATE AT NIGHT. THIS IS ALL RIDICULOUS FOR A NEW CAR. *JB

I WAS FOLLOWING A HYUNDAI TIBURON AND WHEN THE REAR TURN SIGNAL CAME ON, I WAS NEARLY BLINDED BY THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT, WHICH WAS A CLEAR BULB UNDER A CLEAR LENS. THIS CAR WAS FAIRLY NEW SO I DON'T BELIEVE THESE WERE REPLACEMENT BULBS. I SUSPECT THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS APPROVED WITH BULBS THAT HAD A YELLOW COATING AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS SUBSTITUTED CLEAR BULBS. PURCHASED VEHICLE ON APRIL 25, 2005. VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL FOR STEERING: GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION). CONSEQUENCE WOULD PREVENT STEERING CONTROL OF THAT FRONT WHEEL BY THE SEPARATED TIE ROD WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. RECALL WAS ISSUED ON APRIL 8, 2005 AND OWNERS WERE TO BE CALLED AND INSTRUCTED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLES. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE.
