While driving and trying to travel in a straight line the steering wheel would bind snd stick while trying make slight corrections. This would cause the vehicle to constantly swerve from side to side. The Hyundai dealer (Classic Hyundai) misdiagnosed the problem and claimed the car needed new strut bearings. An independent consultant found it was caused by an open ball bearing on the steering shaft just under the steering wheel. The bearing did not have proper dust seals and therefore allowed dirt to enter rolling race area cause the binding. This is a Hyundai design fault and should have be subject to a recall.

Steering coupler is the issue. I have seen hundreds of complaints about Veloster's having issues with steering couplers but yet no recall. Ridiculous! This needs to be recalled and is a major safety issue.

MY VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND CAUSES ISSUES WHEN BRAKING THAT CAN MAKE ME ALMMOST LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE, MY RESEARCH FOUND THAT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COUPLER. HYUNDAI HAS A RECALL FOR THIS ON OTHER MODELS ELANTRA AND SONATA (SAME YEAR AS MY VEHICLE) HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT INCLUDED THE MODEL I OWN, THE VELOSTER. I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR SO THAT I CAN FEEL SAFE AN NOT ONLY PROTECT MYSELF BUT BY ALSO PROTECTING OTHER DRIVERS SINCE IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WITH THE VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND BREAKING. MY INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWS MANY OTHER VELOSTER OWNERS ARE FACING THIS ISSUE AS WELL. I MADE A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE HOWEVER AFTER TAKING MY COMPLAINT I HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY FOLLOW UP RESPONSE AND I HAVE BEEN CALLING THEM BACK AND EMAILING THEM BUT MY CASE MANAGER HAS NOT RESPONDED. FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THIS AND SEE IF A RECALL CAN BE IMPLEMENTED ON THE VELOSTER AS IT HAS FOR THE OTHER HYUNDAI MODELS. THANK YOU.

- The steering feels sticky and has "play" when trying to stay centered on the road. It is most notable on straight freeways at higher speeds (60 - 75 MPH). - The safety issue is driver control and risk to driver, riders and other vehicle/drivers. The steering needs constant attention and adjustment. - The dealer confirmed its existing the first time and Hyundai eventually repaired it in 2019. The issue returned in 2021 and 2022 and the dealer confirmed it again on December 13, 2022, but Hyundai warranty declined to repair. - No other action has been initiated to review the issue with my call. A simple google search and visiting Hyundai owner forum websites show that many drivers/owners experience similar issues and do not know that it's a much larger issue or potential flaw in the steering design. - I'm not aware of any car computer codes associated with the issue. The car has been documented with Chico Hyundai multiple times, so they would have that information. - FYI, this is the second occurrence, Hyundai eventually agreed to replace the steering column in 2019 after multiple visits to dealer and elevating my concern. I understand Hyundai eventually issued a service bulletin for a fix for other Hyundai owners with similar complaints. Unfortunately, after the steering column was replaced, the issue has returned. Efforts to get Hyundai to repair the re-occurring issue have failed. -While I can simply sell the car to an un-suspecting party, it seems wrong not to try to bring up the issue to you.

Same issue as numerous other Hyundai Veloster owners: steering coupler causing excessive movement in the steering column and making a clicking sound when turning the wheel. Hyundai has done a recall on this part for Elantra and Sonata models, but not the Veloster. The issue has been confirmed by an independent service center.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the sunroof suddenly shattered, raining glass down into the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to provide the contact with a cause for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 58,000.

There is an issue with this vehicle's panoramic sunroof and lift-gate windows spontaneously exploding while traveling. These incidents occur within 3 weeks of each other. The first incident occurred on Nov 28th with my liftgate glass shattering on its own while traveling with my dog on the interstate. I was maintaining a speed of 70 mph and just made a lane change. It was just an unexpected loud crunch sound, and while checking the rearview mirror; I noticed my window was shattered. I pulled over to check my vehicle, and no point of contact would have indicated something smashed into it. I had to safely leave the interstate to return home with this unstable glass that was falling apart into my vehicle. There was absolutely nothing that cause that glass to shatter, it just exploded on its own. The second incident occurred on Dec 15th with me once again traveling on the interstate with my pet after making a lane change my sunroof just exploded and glass shards just start pouring into my vehicle on top of me and my pet. Again, nothing fell onto my vehicle. the sunroof just exploded. I had to exit the interstate and drive all the way home with glass EVERYWHERE. I had glass in my hair, on my face, and falling inside of my clothes, and I had to sit on the glass shards piled up in my seat. When I returned home, I had tiny microabrasion scratches over my exposed skin. The panel that holds up the glass came off and fell when I just exited the car. I will be contacting my vehicle manufacturer to find out why the heck this happened and hopefully something will be done about this. Luckily, I was not shaken up enough to lose control of my vehicle when these incidents occur. I'm now afraid to drive my vehicle. After all, I only have the bottom half of my sunroof left and I'm worried this will happen again, and that glass is the only one left protecting the interior of my car from the elements.

My engine is blown. The extended warranty offered by hyundai does not cover the time period or mileage I've had deeming it useless. This is a serious problem and it should be addressed properly. I cannot drive this vehicle. I still owe on my loan. The warranty is not sufficient for the damages accrued regardless if I had signed up in time. This is dangerous, criminal and I'd like reimbursement.

I was driving up to the mountains yesterday and my car began to make a knocking noise, my check engine light began to flash, the car turned off, and we had to basically let the car coast to an exit. Firestone said that my spark plugs 1,2,3 failed and my engine is knocking aggressively (code P1326).

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a knocking sound coming from under the hood. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an undisclosed dealer where it was diagnosed that the knock sensor detection system (KSDS) needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure recurred. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 141,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that after the dealer had completed the knock sensor detection system (KSDS) software update under Hyundai Campaign Number: 966, the check engine warning light illuminated while driving. Additionally, the vehicle failed to exceed 35-40 MPH while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer contacted the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer denied assistance. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. Additionally, the contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V132000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

I got a routine oil change at an old change place and then needed another one 2 1/2 weeks later. The employees at the shop informed me that my vehicle was burning through the oil extremely fast and that the oil dipstick was bare when they checked the oil level. They checked for leaks and found none. The very next day I started hearing a clicking noise coming from the engine and the check engine light was on. I took the vehicle to Autozone in order to run diagnostics on the vehicle to find the problem. The employee there said it was the knock sensor informing us that something is wrong with the engine. I then took the vehicle to a mechanic to see if the problem could be alleviated. The mechanic informed me that there was nothing he could do because of the manufacturing defects of this specific engine. He informed me of a number of filed complaints about this specific engine and it having the same exact problems. The mechanic also informed me that I should immediately stop driving the vehicle because the engine knocking and there is an extremely high risk of it blowing up. I had no idea this engine would do that and have been taking care of the vehicle through routine maintenance since I purchased the vehicle.

On [XXX] I was driving when I heard a sudden explosion followed by shattering glass. There was glass in my car and chunks flew off onto the road. It was the panoramic sunroof on my 2012 Hyundai Veloster that had a recall #108 NHTSA campaign # 12V568000. Hyundai Humble is not acknowledging my VIN # [XXX] although the car was produced within the time frame and IS a safety issue created by the manufacturer. I researched and saw that recalls were supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. I previously filed a complaint O/L on 6/19/25. Case# [XXX] and never received a call back. Please help. Thank you. Currently there are two recalls on the 2012 Veloster. I took our car in yesterday to Woodhouse Hyundai in Omaha, NE to fix the recall 242. However, they said they "diagnosed" it first and would order the part. This is an urgent fix and they don't have the parts on hand to fix it right away?? Also, the newer recall 251...how long until that has a solution to fix it? Both are extremely dangerous and they aren't fixing them? What is the solution, then to ensure the safety of my teen driver who uses this vehicle? This is unreal.

Car stalls out while driving. It happens randomly while on highways, going up or downhill, & while making turns. No warning light or sensors go off. It just shuts off and it is extremely dangerous. I’ve taken it to a Hyundai dealership on three different occasions. The first time they claimed it was due to carbon build up in the throttle body. So they cleaned it out and said it should be fine. I took it back two times after that for the same issue and was told because they can’t duplicate the problem there is nothing they can do. I have almost been in 3 accidents because of this. I have also discovered this is 1 of the too 3 problems that have been reported by hyundai veloster owners. Most people have been given no solution! That is totally unacceptable as this issue is to hazardous to ignore.

Air conditioning connecter/wire I burnt/burning making me feel uneasy and have a fear of vehicle catching on fire There were no warning lights or messages that notified. Found out by smell of burning plastic Hyundai dealership inspected but did not think it was a huge issue and notified me to just keep caution of burning smell (?)

The Hvac Temperature Control Unit has faulty wiring and plastic dials to where the wiring over heats and melts the Hvac control unit . Multiple complaints on this and nothing has been done . My wiring has melted completely and is a FIRE HAZARD

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 MPH, the gear shift indicator located on the instrument panel started flashing. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into gear and failed to remain in drive(D) as intended. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and parked. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuse panel, the transmission, and the alternator wiring harnesses had melted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

Since the make of this car and it’s further year generations people can complained about the a/c control switch burning out and actually it melts the inside of the part. Upon replacing it will short out again and again. So my people have called Hyundai over this issue and they 22 years after my car was made still have not issued a recall. Please someone do something about this!!!PLEASE!!! They don’t sell a replacement part and Hyundai is making 200+ just for the part they “need” to replace (whole unit) for a $5 part of the unit. As someone who lives in AZ it can be fatal to not have A/C. Additionally the stearing controls have also shorted out. This while card electronics are a hazard and a money pit!

So the part that failed was the ac control unit, the car can be inspected. The ac fan know stopped working when inspected the connector itself has gotten so hot that the connector is scorched the know has had some separation on the inside and has created this faulty functionality of the ac controller unit ring. The car has been inspected by hyundai and the recommendation was to replace the ac control unit at a substantial cost. There was no warning lamps as it is an a/c component issue. The symptoms were as follows the a/c worked then it would stop blowing you would have to bring it back to 0 or to the one position speed then move it back to the 4th and it would work fine, until it stopped working. The only positions that work now is 0 and 1. This started happening about 6 months ago for me.

My AC/Heating unit has stopped functioning. Upon researching online, this appears to be a common problem in these vehicles. After opening the section of the vehicle that contains the faulty part, melting/burn marks are observed. This appears to be a fire hazard.

DRIVING AT 70MPH SOUTHBOUND ON I-5 NEAR ALBANY OR THE SUNROOF SUDDENLY IMPLODED, SHOWERING THE INSIDE OF THE CAR WITH GLASS. THE SUNROOF WAS CLOSED AS WERE ALL OF THE WINDOWS AND THE SHADE WAS OPEN. DESPITE THE TRAFFIC I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND MY PASSENGER AND I COULD SHAKE OUT THE PIECES OF GLASS FROM OUR HAIR AND CLOTHES. APART FROM SOME SMALL CUTS THERE WERE NO SERIOUS INJURIES. THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF THE CAR IS COVERED IN BITS OF BROKEN GLASS- THANKFULLY WE DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE IN THE BACK SEATS. UPON HAVING THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALER INSPECT THE ROOF, I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND SEE IF I HAVE COVERAGE FOR THE GLASS. Brakes catastrophic failure due to brake line corrosion. Complete lose of fluid and pressure. The undercoating was not done right or possibly at all so road salts ate through the lines. All lines replaced at a cost of roughly $2000.00. This is already a recall in Canada so like do something about it.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY 13,000 MILES LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AGAIN. THE LOCAL DEALER (RICK CASE HYUNDAI, 19991 VILLA VIEW RD, CLEVELAND, OH) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED TWO DAY IN A ROW.. I START MY CAR UP TO GO TO WORK, PUT IT IN GEAR AND CANT MOVE BECAUSE THE REAR BRAKES ARE STUCK, MY CAR IS STUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY CAUSING ME TO BE LATE FOR WORK, I CALLED MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER AND MY CAR DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED FOR 4,490 VELOSTER THAT YEAR.. IF MY CAR DOESNT QUALIFY BECAUSE OF SOME SILLY VIN NUMBER BUT HAS THE RECALL ISSUES.. SHOULDNT IT BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL?

POWER TRAIN

Car was taken to the dealership for two active recalls. The dealership began with 966 Engine Monitoring Logic Recall. An error code was received after the computer was updated during the Recall. The display panel now displays all gears as E, and now when the dealership drives it the car has a stall. The dealership states the transmission must be replaced. From my understanding it all is related to software. It is still with the dealership, Hyundai is refusing to cover this since the car is out of warranty. This defect is directly from the recall.

. WHEN I BOUGHT IT IT HAD 98,000 KM ON IT. STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I HAD ALL THE RECALLS FROM A FEW YEARS AGO DONE TO BRING IT ALL UP TO DATE. I RELIGIOUSLY CHANGED THE OIL, ROTATED TIRES, FLUIDS UPDATED, NEW BATTERY, ETC. I COULDN'T GET IT OUT OF THIRD GEAR UNTIL I ONCE POPPED THE CLUTCH AND OUT IT CAME. SHIFTING WENT BACK TO NORMAL, FOR A WHILE THEN I COULD NOT GET IT TO GO INTO ANY GEAR! I AM ON MY WAY HOME IN RUSH OUR TRAFFIC AND THE CAR WILL NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR BUT SEEMS TO BE STUCK IN 5TH OR 6TH GEAR? BY REVING UP THE ENGINE TO ABOUT 4000 AND LETTING THE CLUTCH OUT SLOWLY WHILE REVING IT WOULD SLOWLY START GOING AND EVENTUALLY IT WOULD BE GOING OK STUCK IN WHATEVER GEAR BUT THERE WERE TRAFFIC LIGHTS!! I HAD TO PULL OVER ONCE AND HAD THE POLICE PULL IN BEHIND ME. WHEN I EXPLAINED TO HER WHAT WAS HAPPENING SHE SAID SHE UNDERSTOOD HER BROTHER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM? I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT HOME IN THE SCARIEST RIDE EVER (THROUGH 2 RED LIGHTS AND A STOP SIGN) AND IT WAS SMOKING AND STINKING! NOW I HAVE A CAR WITH INSURANCE ($1200 YR.) ON IT AND 1.5 YEARS LEFT ON THE LOAN ($288.00) A MONTH. 50% OF MY INCOME GOES TO RENT. I LIVE CHEQUE TO CHEQUE. MY MOST IMPORTANT LIFELINE IS MY CAR AND NOW I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX IT AND IT WON'T DRIVE. When I make short trips and then turn car off for a few minutes before trying to start it again, sometimes it doesn’t restart. I have to sit there for 5-15 minutes before it will start again. Once, it died at a 4-way stop then started right back up. Today, the motor cut off while I was accelerating at 35 mph right in the middle of the road. After 10 minutes it started right back up. This is my daily driver and I know there’s a campaign for this abs/electrical issue but I need a solution immediately before I’m left up a creek without a paddle. That was so scary that I’m afraid to even get on the interstate to take it to the dealership!

My car has 3 recalls included safety recall and manufacturer engine issues recall. The dealer declined to repair my car the reason said its out of warranty, my car has 106k miles, as I know the recalls should be fixed no matter how many miles on the vehicle, or who is the owner of the vehicle, first or second. Now the Hyundai dealer ( key Hyundai dealer in Manchester CT) asked me to pay them $195 plus parking fees $35 a day. I refuse to take my car back until they fix all recalls. And the car sitting there at the dealer since July 29th. I need your help please.

I had a recall done on my car, and driving 10 mins from the shop it lost power. I called the shop they had me pull over and try shutting off the car and starting it back up which didn't work so i was told to drive back if i can make it , it took 25 mins with the throttle going up and down. They had it for about a hour or two and said it was the oil being low 2 qts. But, they put 3qts in, they got it working and 2 weeks later it did the same thing, I called and took it back they said it was the spark plugs and I had to pay for that. I explain to them I had no problems until the recall was done and they say the recall was good. So now we 2 months out and the thing which the recall was for is completely broken (Throttle /ECM). I was on Christmas vacation when it went into protection mode and I couldn't drive it. It showed no codes until I had mechanic come change out the throttle Body but it still doesn't work because these codes P0222 and P0123, which is the throttle position pedal. I had to tow the car back because that's not a regular carried part for auto parts stores. What's the next steps on getting this fixed because Hyundai refuse to fix it.

THE HYUNDAI VELOSTER COMES WITH VERY LOW PROFILE TIRES AND DOES NOT HAVE A SPARE TIRE. THE THIN SIDE WALLS ON THE LOW PROFILE TIRES MAKE THEM PRONE TO BLOW OUT HITTING VERY SMALL POT HOLES. THE 'INFLATOR' THAT COMES WITH THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN USABLE FOR ANY OF THE 7 TIRE BLOW OUTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO OF NORMAL CITY DRIVING, LEADING TO FREQUENT STRANDINGS AND LONG TOWS. THE NATURE OF THE TIRE FAILURE MEANS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AT SPEED, THE TIRES GO FROM IMPACT TO BEING UNABLE TO DRIVE IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS, LEAVING LITTLE ROOM TO GET TO SAFETY. THE COMBINATION OF UNSAFE TIRES FOR ANYTHING BUT PERFECT ROAD CONDITIONS AND NO SPARE AND AN ABSOLUTELY INEFFECTIVE TIRE REPAIR SYSTEM, POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK TO CONSUMERS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V567000 (BRAKES). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

BEGINNING IN FEBRUARY, NOTICED BRAKE DUST SMELL COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL. UPON INSPECTION FOUND THAT THE PARKING BRAKE LINKAGE WAS STICKING IN THE "ON" POSITION WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER WAS RELEASED. AT THE SAME TIME EXPERIENCED A SMALL PULL TO THE LEFT AND A NOTICEABLE LOSS IN M.P.G. A TRIP TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONFIRMED THAT THE RIGHT REAR CALIPER WAS STICKING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ONLY FOR THE "DEFECTIVE" DRIVERS SIDE AND IT WAS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. THE REPAIR HAPPENED IN MARCH AND SEEMED TO BE WORKING FINE AT THAT TIME. IN APRIL, A "BANG" SOUND STATED TO BE HEARD WHEN RELEASING THE PARKING AND DRIVING AWAY AFTER SITTING OVER NIGHT. THIS "BANG" SOUND STATED AS AN ONLY ONCE A WEEK PROBLEM TO NOW AN EVERY DAY PROBLEM. I HAVE LOOKED AND CONFIRMED THAT NOW "BOTH" REAR CALIPERS ARE STICKING UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE IN THE MORNING. THE PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPING AND NOW BRAKING WHILE DRIVING IS STARTING TO BECOME INCONSISTENT. SOMETIMES THE CAR BRAKES FINE, OTHER TIMES THE CAR SEEMS TO HAVE A NOTICEABLE "WEAK" BRAKING FUNCTION (INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE). UPON LOOKING UP PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, I DISCOVERED THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF 2012 VELOSTERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE FOR OWNERS IN NORTHERN PART OF THE NORTH AMERICA WHERE DIRTY/ SALTY ROADS ARE SEEN (I LIVE IN VERMONT). HYUNDAI/NHTSA HAS A RECALL FOR 2015-2016 VELOSTER 1.6 ENGINES FOR CONNECTING ROD BEARING FAILURES, AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN ONGOING AND KNOWN FOR YEARS. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO 2011-2018 1.6L GDI MOTORS USED IN HYUNDAI AND KIA VEHICLES, WHICH ALL HAVE ISSUES WITH ROD BEARING FAILURES. WHILE PARKED, CAR STARTS HARD THEN WILL NOT SHIFT, DESPITE THE DASH SAYING IT'S IN DRIVE. HAVE TO SHUT OFF, WAIT, THEN RESTART. AT STOP SIGNS, CAR WILL STALL THEN NOT RESTART. ONCE RESTARTED, CAR WILL NOT SHIFT. NEED TO SHUT OFF THEN RESTART REPEATEDLY UNTIL IT SHIFTS. MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING A "CHUGGING" FEELING AROUND 20-40MPH FOR A WHILE ALMOST LIKE ENGINE IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH FUEL. The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while shifting into gear, the vehicle failed to move. Upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle was fluttering. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the repair parts were on backorder. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V132000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

FOR THE 4TH TIME, MY 2012 VELOSTER LITERALLY SHUT OFF WHILE BEING DRIVEN. IT DOES NOT STALL. IT SHUTS OFF ENTIRELY. NO ELECTRIC. NO POWER. NO NOTHING. LUCKILY, THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED WHEN DOING UNDER 15MPH OR STOPPED AT A LIGHT. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON A HIGHWAY OR AT HIGH SPEEDS, IT IS QUITE CERTAIN THAT I WOULD BE IN AN ACCIDENT AS THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO ALERT OTHER MOTORISTS THAT MY VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN - THERE ARE NO BRAKE LIGHTS OR ANYTHING WHEN IT SHUTS OFF. THE HYUNDAI VELOSTER 2012 HAD A RECALL A FEW YEARS AGO CONCERNING THE SUDDEN EXPLOSION OF THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF. I TOOK IN MY VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY TO BE CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THE SUNROOF WAS FINE. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ABOUT 65/70 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR, AN EXTREMELY LOUD BANG OCCURRED. I IMMEDIATELY ASSOCIATED THE LOUD BANG AS A GUN SHOT. GLASS FROM THE CEILING FELL INTO THE VEHICLE AND ON MY BODY AS THE SUNROOF COVER RIPPED OPEN. I WAS SO STARTLED, THAT I DUCKED TRYING TO PROTECT MYSELF AS GLASS WAS FALLING ONTO ME WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE OVER NIGHT. IN THE MORNING, WHEN LEAVING FOR WORK I FOUND THE CARS SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. GLASS WAS ON THE GARAGE FLOOR, CAR ROOF, WINDSHIELD, HOOD, AND REAR GLASS. I PURCHASED THE VELOSTER IN EARLY DECEMBER 2011. IT WAS AT SCHOOL IN THE PARKING STRUCTURE IN FEBRUARY OF 2012 WHEN I GOT A CALL FROM THE CAMPUS POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYING MY CAR HAD DAMAGE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, I FOUND THE SUNROOF COMPLETELY EXPLODED. AT THE SCENE AND AFTER THE INCIDENT, THERE WERE NO WITNESSES OF SOMEONE PHYSICALLY BREAKING IN THE WINDOW. THERE IS A DECENT AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC THROUGH THE AREA SO THE IDEA OF SOMEONE BEING ABLE TO BREAK THE SUNROOF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY WITHOUT BEING SEEN IS UNLIKELY. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO ANY OTHER OF THE WINDOWS OR ANY OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR...THERE WAS JUST AN EXPLODED SUNROOF. THERE WAS NO ATTEMPT TO GET INTO THE CAR FROM THE SUNROOF AND NOTHING WAS STOLEN FROM INSIDE OF THE CAR. THE POLICE REPORT STATES THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN VANDALISM OR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, BUT FROM THE SHRAPNEL PATTERNS FROM THE GLASS SEEMING TO BLOWN OUTWARD FROM THE INSIDE, FINDING NO OBJECTS TO BREAK INTO THE CAR, AND THE LACK OF STOLEN PROPERTY. AFTER ONLY 18 MONTHS AND 28,000 MILES OF LEASING MY CAR FROM HYUNDAI I COULD HEAR THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL WAS MAKING SOME KIND OF CLICKING SOUND. AFTER INSPECTING THE TIRE, WHICH IS A KUMHO BRAND, I NOTICED THAT THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE HAD A LONG NARROW THREAD OF RUBBER HANGING FROM IT. I CALLED FOR THE CAR TO BE TOWED TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP (VALENCIA HYUNDAI). WHEN THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT ([XXX]) TOLD ME THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE VERY WORN AND NEED REPLACING I EXPECTED AFTER SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THAT THEY WOULD BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. APPARENTLY, THEY ARE ONLY COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. I CALLED KUMHO TIRES WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERS DEFECTS AND ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI THERE WAS NO DEFECT JUST WEAR AND TARE. I stood my [XXX] nephew up in the front passengers side floorboard of the 2012 hyundia voloster manual transmission with push start . I stepped out of the car on the passage side of the car the car was parked in first gear no one was on the driver's side . I bent over to get my shoes on and baby reached over and pushed the start button on the car the car should not have started since the clutch was not pressed in but unfortunately the car started and lunged forward being on a incline it was as if someone smashed on the gas pedal I ran with the car as far as I could but it was going so fast I could not get into the car to stop it I was drug trying to stop the car the car flew thru a fence , into the woods, down a steep hill then crossed a one lane road traveled up a hill thru another patch of woods before going up hill and hitting a tree all the while our nephew was not in a car seat the car was bouncing side to side when it went off road to cross a creek so I know the baby was thrown around in the car he had to of been that car was going so fast I was screaming in fear that he would not be alive when I made it to the car now the key was in my purse located in the passenger side floorboard where I stood the baby up at so when I reached the car the doors had automatically locked the car was still running and the baby was screaming I could not leave the baby to go get help so I tried to tell him to open the door but like I said he is [XXX] old he didn't know what I was telling him to do and since the car went thru the fence it knocked the wiper blades off and the metal was going back and forth on the glass and it was so loud screeching back and forth and baby is screaming and I could not get to him and I know the screeching is scaring him even more so I reached up the pull the wipers away from the windshield and when I did baby leans on the door to see what I was doing and he hits the windows button and the windows came down just far enough to get it unlock INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The car was in Hyundai dealership for 35 days to have a recalls fixed - still showing as no remedy for ABS systems and they said they fixed it ? they had me pick up the car? And but the recall still shows no remedy ? I’m not sure it’s fixed ? and 2 weeks later the transmission goes out while I’m driving again and lose control over the vehicle and stuck on side of road had And Hyundai dealership proceeded to only be concerned on who’s paying for the diagnosis who has been the one fixing the vehicle and I have an extended warranty with Car Max. Car max sold me a car that had rusted brakes and brake lines and several recalls and now the transmission went out . I have expressed to Hyundai and Carmax - The car is not safe .

I have issues with past recalls, but they are not showing up in this list. I had a Body Throttle recall and 5 minutes after it was fixed it broke down and then again a week after and a month after altogether until the body throttle had to be replaced. I had the knock sensor recall done and now it went off code P-1326 is showing with a check engine light and it only drives 62mph. I mean the engine is bad and may catch on fire, and need to be replaced. Yes, the dealer knows and is waiting for my car to be put on the engine replacement list, which has been over 4 months now. There is a lawsuit to change it but Hyundai is not doing it.

The contact stated that after purchasing the new tires the daughter was driving approximately 65 mph when the rear passenger side tire experienced sidewall separation causing the daughter to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a guard rail. During the crash, the vehicle was destroyed. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. No injuries were reported. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet notified of the incident. The VIN was not available.

After an update for a recall for brake issues, the dealership updated the knock sensor update without my consent. After the knock sensor software was installed, my 2012 Hyundai veloster will not operate without going into protection mode. Hyundai states that they can not reverse the software update to make my vehicle operable again. This has already come up as a safety concern as my wife was on the interstate when the vehicle shut down in 70+ mph traffic.

On Tue 6/17 I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Veloster home when the sunroof glass spontaneously exploded (no notifications)then the sound of shattering glass. There were no cars ahead of me and none behind so it was doubtful there was damage done to other people. I did have small chunks of glass fall on me and in the car. Humble Hyundai dealership can't find the recall. I called the main office it's recall campaign # is 108. The dealership said the recall had to be opened back up so they can see it. Otherwise I will be hit with a bill too high for me to handle. Please help asap. Thank you

Over the last year, I’ve had to purchase three air conditioner switches after driving for several years with it being out the first one we replaced caused a small electrical fire as did all of the others. This has been an ongoing issue not just with my car, but my sister‘s in-laws who is a 2014 model I looked online. It has been reported over the years basically since the cars come out of this same issue can you please Issue a safety recall before somebody’s house or vehicle or both catches fire completely. This is not safe at all. I have already put in a request for the safety recall on several other occasions this is unacceptable unsafe and a very large problem across the United States since this vehicle has come out please do something.

In Dec of last year my cars dash lights started flashing no matter which gear I tried the gear would flash on the dash,when I called my extended warranty "car shield ",they recommended that I take it to a repair shop in nearby city and have a diagnostic test performed. I did so,in which after testing they said it was something on side of transmission and they weren't equipped to perform the repairs and needed to be taken to dealership instead. I picked up the vehicle and same issue was present of course, so I had it towed to a dealership and then was contacted by them that they could not do a diagnostic test until the battery was replaced because it was not starting, so I brought a battery and put it on in the place of my old one.I made sure that the vehicle was going to start before leaving and it did with no problem, so I turned it off and was contacted by the dealership saying that it was extensive damage, and car shield had to send out their own personal investigator and they refused to fix any issues and would not pay for diagnostic services or the $10,000 to cover the repairs due to unknown circumstances causing the fuse box next to battery to melt as well as damage to my wiring harness and the wiring harness for the alternator somehow. Now I have a vehicle that I paid for less than a year ago and a no good extended warranty paid for as well and a vehicle with less than 100000 miles that's useless.

The contact's daughter owns a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle jerked, lurched forward, and there was smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that on several occasions, the vehicle failed to respond upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that her daughter would pull to the side of the roadway for a moment, then would continue driving; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the motor mounts, the spark plugs, camshaft sensor, and the fuel injectors were replaced; however, the failure recurred. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing abnormal oil consumption. The contact stated that she noticed a puddle of oil underneath the vehicle while the vehicle was parked, on several occasions. The vehicle was inspected by several independent mechanics; however, the source of the oil leak could not be determined. An independent mechanic replaced the catalytic converter; however, the failure recurred. The MIL warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine was misfiring and was experiencing an internal failure. The dealer informed the contact that the engine needed to be taken apart for further diagnostic testing and was charged a fee. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. I am writing to formally file a complaint against Hyundai USA regarding the engine damage, defect caused by connecting rod bearing failure that I am experiencing with my 2012 Hyundai Veloster. Hyundai is fully aware that countless owners have experience the same issues and have sent letters detailing the problems. I have always choose a Hyundai affiliated dealership to have all my services and repairs done. It has always been more expensive, but I wanted my vehicle to be in good shape and believed that I would receive the best services through them. The problems with my vehicle started in late 2019 or early 2020 when I was driving with my family on the highway. It felt as if the car was about to fall to a sudden stop, and the speed suddenly started decreasing, and eventually the vehicle couldn’t go over 60 miles/ hour and dropping even lower. That problem created a safety hazard to me and my family since we were driving on the highway and were hundreds of miles away from our destination. After months of not being able to drive the car and having the same problems, I took the vehicle back to the dealer’s service center and had paid them to have some repairs done. However, after a few days, the same issue started again, and had to get it repaired again. The same problems persisted, and after consulting with the technicians, I was told that the dealer had contacted Hyundai and that it is a manufacturing defect and Hyundai needs to change the engine since all the many repairs that had been done but did not solve the known issues. They had reassured me that because I have always kept with regular maintains of my vehicle through the affiliated Hyundai dealers and should have no problems getting the engine replaced. The engine still has not been replaced, all the while I am still paying car insurance on the vehicle. I have bled enough money on a vehicle that I am not be able to drive. I shouldn't have to pay Hyundai close to $5,000 for their defected engine.

On 08/17/2022, we had to have the car towed to the dealer for a very concerning issue. My son was driving down a major highway (middle lane) and as he attempted to accelerate, the car was not responding. It was like the car went into neutral and the rpms went up, but there was absolutely no acceleration. It was scary as he had traffic all around him and needed to get over to the breakdown lane. He finally got over and the car would not move forward or reverse. The check engine light also came on, so we had the car towed once again to the dealer. Once there, they looked it over and said it needed a new MAP SENSOR. They also stated that they thought the problem was with the DCT CONTROL MODULE. They said that they needed to do a RETEST of the DCT CONTROL MODULE and followed through with that. When I went to pick up the vehicle, I was told that the car was working properly, but they couldn’t be sure that it wouldn’t happen again. If the same thing happened again then they would need to replace the DCT CONTROL MODULE. After paying $800 to have my car fixed, I didn’t feel very hopeful. It makes you pretty anxious to drive a car that just loses power out of nowhere. Under normal conditions, losing acceleration on a major highway could severely affect the driver’s ability to control the vehicle and maintain a safe speed in traffic. This could cause a major accident. Here we go again. On 09/23/2022, my son was driving down the highway when he suddenly lost power again. The same scenario played out once again, only this time he didn’t have much room to pull over. He was forced to pull over in an accident-prone area of 77 South with a cement barrier next to him. Soon, he saw police lights behind him. The police officer was very concerned with getting the car towed quickly and showed my son the skid marks on the pavement from a previous accident. Now the dealer is saying its the transmission and transmission control module. This car is very unsafe to drive.

PURCHASED CAR ON 5/5/2012 WITH 6 MILES ON IT. WITHIN LESS THAN A WEEK AND 200 MILES THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN CLICKING. TOOK IT INTO HYUNDAI AND THEY STATED IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW IN JAN OF 2012, STARTED HAVING "ISSUES" WITH THE DUEL CLUTCH WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF DRIVING. GLASS AND VISIBILITY PROBLEM: IN FEB. 2012 THE LARGE BACK GLASS (HORIZONTAL GLASS IN THE BACK DOOR) IN THE CAR BROKE WITHOUT ANY APPARENT REASON. TEMPERATURE WAS NORMAL AT THE TIME AND NO OUTSIDE OBJECT WAS FOUND IN THE CAR. IT WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND VERY EXPENSIVE FIX. HYUNDAI COMPANY DID NOT COVER THE REPAIR COST UNDER WARRANTY. ELECTRICAL PROBLEM: FROM JUNE 2012 TOO PRESENT, THERE IS ERROR MESSAGE POPPING OUT THAT BLUELINK IS ACTIVE BUT NOT REGISTERED. AFTER ALMOST 4 MONTHS OF CONTACTING THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DEALER SHIP THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIX THIS ERROR MESSAGE. ON SATURDAY, 9/8, I NOTICED THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER HAD LOST TENSION WHEN I FIRST STARTED THE CAR, AND AFTER RUNNING ERRANDS AND PARKING AFTERWARD, NOTICED A STRONG, "OZONE-Y" ODOR COMING FROM THE CAR, BUT WASN'T SURE FROM WHERE. I DROVE MORE A LITTLE MORE OVER THE WEEKEND AND NOTICED THE SMELL AGAIN, PLUS ACCORDING TO THE CAR'S MPG READOUT ON THE TRIP COMPUTER, THE FUEL MILEAGE WAS MUCH LOWER THAN USUAL BY 5-10 MPG. ON MONDAY, 9/10, TWO DAYS AFTER FIRST NOTICING THE SMELL AND PARKING BRAKE ISSUE BUT NOT REALIZING WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, I DROVE THE CAR TO AND FROM WORK IN COMMUTE TRAFFIC (APPROX. 13 MILES EACH WAY). WHEN I PARKED THE CAR AFTER THE COMMUTE HOME AFTER WORK, THE BURNING SMELL WAS MUCH STRONGER, AND CLEARLY COMING FROM LEFT REAR BRAKE. UPON INSPECTION, I NOTICED LIGHT SMOKE COMING FROM PAD/ROTOR, LOTS OF BRAKE DUST, AND EVIDENCE OF GROOVING ON ROTOR, SO OBVIOUSLY THE BRAKE WAS STICKING OR DRAGGING ON THE ROTOR. I CALLED MY SERVICE DEALERSHIP RIGHT AWAY (HYUNDAI OF SEATTLE), WHO TOOK THE PROBLEM SERIOUSLY AND SAID "CALL HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON A FLATBED TRUCK; DON'T DRIVE THE CAR." IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY, AND DIAGNOSED WITH A LEFT REAR BRAKE CALIPER FAILURE CAUSING THE PADS TO STICK TO THE ROTORS. A NEW PART WAS ORDERED AND THE CAR REPAIRED BY SATURDAY, 9/15. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, BUT I HAVE SINCE READ ON A WEBSITE DEVOTED TO THIS SPECIFIC MODEL, VELOSTER.ORG, THAT A NUMBER OF OTHER 2012 VELOSTER OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR SEAT BELTS AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAGS FAILED. THE REAR SEAT BELTS COULD NOT BE RELEASE FROM THE SEAT OR RETRACTED. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE ANTI-THEFT UNIT ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER RE-CALIBRATED THE PASSENGER WEIGHT SENSOR HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE REAR SEAT BELTS WERE NOT REPLACED AND THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED HOWEVER, THE ANTI THEFT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS UPDATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE TAIL PIPE RELEASED A BLACK POWDER AND THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE BLACK POWDER WAS A NORMAL PHENOMENON THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THEY WERE WORKING ON ISSUING A REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,100.

THE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. WHEN AT A FULL STOP AND I PRESS ON THE GAS THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE HOWEVER, THE RPMS ARE HIGH BUT THE CAR TAKES 5-6 SECONDS TO GO AND IT DOESN'T GO VERY FAST AND THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES I WAS ALMOST HIT. MY CAR JERKS WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE FROM A SLOW SPEED, IT IS THE SAME MOVEMENT AS IF YOU WERE RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND ACTUALLY JERKS MY NECK. MY REAR DRIVER'S WINDOW SHATTERED FOR NO REASON. IT WAS IN THE DRIVE WAY AND WHEN I WENT OUT TO WORK IN THE MORNING, IT WAS SHATTERED. THERE IS NO IMPACT SIGHT AS EVIDENCE THAT SOMETHING HAD HIT IT. THE SUNROOF SHATTERED VIOLENTLY IN AN UPWARDS DIRECTION, SENDING SOME GLASS DOWN INSIDE THE CAR AND THE REST ALL OVER THE EXTERIOR. AFTER GOOGLING I FOUND OUT THERE ARE MANY OTHER VELOSTER OWNERS THAT HAVE HAD IDENTICAL INSTANCES WHERE THEIR SUNROOFS SHATTERED SPONTANEOUSLY.THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT CAUSES IT, BUT THEY ARE WORKING ON IT WITH HYUNDAI. THEY HAVE ANOTHER SUNROOF ON ORDER, BUT AM WORRIED I MAY HAVE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN DUE TO THEIR MANUFACTURING DEFECT FOR THIS COMPONENT. *TT

VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTS TO FIFTH GEAR WHEN PASSING BUT DOES NOT RETURN TO SIXTH GEAR UPON RELEASING ACCELERATOR. VEHICLE CONTINUES AT SAME RATE OF SPEED WHEN RELEASING ACCELERATOR AS IF IT WERE ON CRUISE CONTROL. WHILE PASSING AN 18 WHEELER ON HWY 169 NORTH, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER 18 WHEELER APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET IN FRONT OF THE ONE I WAS PASSING. WITH AN ONCOMING VEHICLE I COULD NOT PASS BOTH TRUCKS, SO I PASSED THE FIRST ONE AND PULLED IN BEHIND THE OTHER ONE. WHEN I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR CONTINUED AT THE SAME RATE OF SPEED FORCING ME TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID REAR-ENDING THE OTHER TRUCK. THIS VEHICLE (AND SUBSEQUENTLY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE DEALERSHIP LOT) EXHIBITS THIS CHARACTERISTIC EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE GOES INTO PASSING MODE. HOWEVER, IF YOU BACK OFF THE ACCELERATOR SLIGHTLY, AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS, THE CAR WILL SHIFT BACK INTO SIXTH GEAR [BUT ALL THE WHILE ACCELERATING]. I NOTICED THAT YOU CAN MANUALLY SHIFT THE VEHICLE BACK TO SIXTH BY MOVING THE SHIFTER TO MANUAL MODE FOR A SPLIT SECOND AND THEN SHIFTING BACK INTO "D". THE ENGINE RPMS WILL FALL BACK DOWN IMMEDIATELY INDICATING THE SHIFT. OTHERWISE, THE VEHICLE REMAINS IN FIFTH GEAR WITHOUT DECELERATING FOR APPROXIMATELY 8 SECONDS. IN MY CASE, THE CAR DID NOT DO WHAT I "TOLD" IT TO DO: DECELERATE BY RELEASING THE PEDAL. I'VE SPOKEN TO HYUNDAI AND TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU BECAUSE OF THIS DESIGN FLAW. "CONTROL" IS THE KEY ISSUE BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A VEHICLE. IF SOMEONE IS NOT EXPECTING THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE AT THE RATE OF SPEED WHEN THEY LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THEY COULD CRASH INTO SOMEONE AS I ALMOST DID. THANK YOU. *TT

VEHICLE HAD STRONG SMELL OF FUEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. NO VISIBLE LEAKS UNDER THE VEHICLE. CALLED THE HENDERSON HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEED TO LEAVE THE A/C CONTROLS ON RE-CIRCULATE TO MINIMIZE THE CONDITION. THE FUMES WERE OVERWHELMING, CLOSE TO HOME SO DROVE IT HOME WITH ALL WINDOWS OPEN TO VENT THE SMELL. CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. PICKED UP VEHICLE NEXT DAY AND THE DEALER DID NOTHING, SAID THIS WAS NORMAL, AND TO RUN THE RE-CIRCULATE AS TOLD BEFORE. SPOKE WITH SERVICE MANAGER AT HENDERSON HYUNDAI WHO GAVE ME A TWO PAGE DOCUMENT THAT STATED " SEVERAL FACTORS MUST BE PRESENT AT THE SAME TIME IN ORDER FOR THIS TO OCCUR. SOME EXAMPLES OF THESE CONDITIONS ARE, HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURE (100F +), HIGH ALTITUDE, POOR FUEL QUALITY, LOW FUEL LEVEL IN THE GAS TANK, EXTENDED IDLING, SLOW TRAFFIC OR STOP AND GO DRIVING. FUEL ODOR UNDER THESE EXTREME CONDITIONS IS NORMAL AND DOES NOT INDICATE A DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE" I THEN STATED THAT THEY SHOULD INFORM THE BUYER PRIOR TO PURCHASE, AS ALL OF THESE CONDITIONS EXIST IN THE LAS VEGAS AREA FOR 4 MONTHS OF THE YEAR. I ALSO BROUGHT UP THE POSSIBILITY OF THE CAR HAVING THE A/C ON WHILE IN AN EXTENDED IDLE SITUATION, AND THE OPERATOR NOT KNOWING THIS, THEN GETTING IN THE CAR AND LIGHTING A CIGARETTE WITHOUT BEING AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AND POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE, THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT YES, THAT COULD HAPPEN. I HAVE THE COMPLETE TWO PAGE DOCUMENT FROM HYUNDAI IF YOU WOULD LIKE A COPY OF WHAT I WAS GIVEN, AS MOST OF THE EXTREME CONDITIONS NOTED ARE A DAILY OCCURRENCE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS IN LAS VEGAS, I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THEY WOULD EVEN SELL THIS VEHICLE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS IS BECAUSE THE CHARCOAL CANNISTER ON THE EMISSION SYSTEM CANNOT HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF VAPOR PRODUCED. I ALSO SUGGESTED ROUTING THE VENT TO ANOTHER LOCATION. *TR

ORIGINAL EMAIL SENT TO HYUNDAI MOTORS USA "DEAR HYUNDAI MOTORS USA, I HAVE VISITED THE DEALERSHIP WITH MY NEW VELOSTER FOR TWO ISSUES ON THE CAR. I WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT YOU TO OPEN A CASE AS THE DEALER WOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX THE ISSUES AS THERE IS NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS. HERE ARE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS I HAVE NOTIFIED THE D EALER OF AND THOSE THAT NEED TO BE FIXED. 1) SERIOUS ISSUE! WHEN BRAKING UNDER HEAVY CONDITIONS, BOTH ABS AND NON ABS CASES, THE CAR SWERVES AND/OR LOSES IT'S 'REAR' TO EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. I'VE BRAKED HARD SEVERAL TIMES AND IT FEELS LIKE THE REAR END IS GIVING OUT. DURING ABS CONDITIONS, THE CAR SWERVES LIKE IT'S A RWD DRIVEN VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT ONLY SCARY AS A CONSUMER BUT DANGEROUS TO OTHERS. IF THERE IS ANY CONDENSATION ON THE ROAD WHILE BRAKING AND THE LEANING TO ONE SIDE OCCURS AND/OR SWERVING, I COULD HYDROPLANE AND CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF A MECHANICAL DEFECT. I HAVE DONE MY OWN RESEARCH AND SPOKEN TO OTHER VELOSTER OWNERS AS WELL. THEY HAVE MENTIONED THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEIR DEALER HAS ORDERED AND REPLACED ONE OF THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I INFORMED MY SERVICE ADVISOR & THE MECHANIC OF THIS ISSUE ON 3 SEPARATE TEST DRIVES. 1 TEST DRIVE WITH SERVICE ADVISOR IN MY VELOSTER, 1 WITH THE MECHANIC IN MY VELOSTER & 1 IN ANOTHER NEW VELOSTER WITH THE MECHANIC. IN ALL CASES THE VEHICLE SWERVED OR FELT LIKE THE REAR END WAS COMING LOSE. PLEASE HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED AND PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED TO LEARN THAT I HAVE TO WRITE YOU PRIOR TO THE DEALER SERVICING MY VEHICLE. I WILL BE COOPERATIVE IN THIS ISSUE AND LOOK FORWARD TO A SOLUTION. *TR

THERE IS ONE SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT WITH THIS CAR, THE SIDE MIRROR ADJUSTMENTS (IN PARTICULAR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE). THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO PROPERLY ADJUST THE MIRROR AND THEY STATED THAT THE LIMITED ADJUSTABLE WAS "JUST HOW IT WAS DESIGNED." THEREFORE, I WOULD LIKE THIS RESEARCHED FURTHER AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN. THIS CAR IS NOT AS SAFE AS IT SHOULD BE.
