The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle stopped and failed to accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the contact that there was no special warranty coverage on the vehicle for the repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

While driving under normal conditions at approximately 65 mph, the engine emitted a sudden “bang” and severe knock. Over the following week, the vehicle stalled several times. Inspection revealed one piston crown was chipped, which then scored the cylinder wall and caused an oil leak. No other pistons or bearings showed wear. This failure pattern is consistent with low‐speed pre-ignition events documented in numerous online owner reports—many describing identical piston or rod breakage in 2013–2015 Veloster Turbos under Recall 19V204000, which addresses exactly this defect. The vehicle was partially disassembled for inspection, and Hyundai dealers have refused to perform the federally mandated Recall 19V204000 remedy. Instead, they deceptively insist on treating this as a warranty work request—despite me having told them more than five times (on multiple recorded calls), in two portal updates, and via certified letters, that this is a safety recall issue, not a warranty claim. Their refusal has forced me to incur several thousand dollars worth of expenses and spend dozens of hours pursuing a remedy. Hyundai representatives have repeatedly argued that this engine malfunction may stem from previous accident damage. However, the vehicle’s only collisions occurred in June 2014, when it sustained moderate to severe front-end damage at approximately 1,000 miles and was subsequently repaired at a certified dealer, and in 2019, when it incurred rear-end damage under 30,000 miles. The piston-crown failure I experienced in 2024—at 90,000–95,000 miles—cannot be attributed to either of those incidents. Its nature and timing are fully consistent with low-speed pre-ignition, the exact defect addressed by Recall 19V204000. An 11-page CARFAX report and full call‐recordings are available upon request.

Vehicle Info: 2013 Hyundai Veloster VIN: [XXX] Odometer: 75,000 miles Problem Description: My check engine light began flashing and the vehicle entered limp mode. Diagnostic codes showed P1326 and U1103, which are linked to a known Theta II engine defect involving rod bearing failure. Hyundai issued a 15-year / 150,000-mile warranty extension and settled a class-action lawsuit to cover these failures. However, my request for coverage was denied due to “time in service” despite being well below the mileage limit (only 75k miles). This is a serious safety concern that may result in sudden engine failure. My 2013 Hyundai Veloster (VIN: [XXX] ) has the known P1326 fault related to the Theta II engine defect. Despite a rod bearing test that passed, the engine now requires replacement, confirmed by the dealer, who quoted me $8,494. Hyundai refuses to assist, even though I am under the 150,000-mile extended warranty. This is a safety risk and fits the class-action defect criteria. I was driving my vehicle and it began severely misfiring and stalled on me. I took it to the dealer and found there was damage to cylinder number 2 engine balance. After research I found there are many claims and complaints due to this type of issue. The likely cause is preignition caused by what Hyundai calls bad software. I recently purchase the vehicle and they say it was updated in July of 2024 and will not repair my vehicle as they say because of its age and mileage. That being said I’m at 120k mileage and work in the auto industry…. They is nothing that could cause valve burn outside of the known ignition issue with these cars. I have no problem paying for repairs due to my cause issues or normal wear and tear but a melted valve is caused by the know issues on these cars. I am looking for help working with Hyundai to get this issue fixed.

Smoke, burning smell came from ac control unit. Ac wiring unit, knob completely burned/melted. Reported to Hyundai local and corporate office no resolution other then I just have to replace the unit. Please note this happened in 2022 (40,000 miles today vehicle had 58,000miles) and I paid in full for the replacement the 1st time.

The knob for the A/C can not handle the amperage when in the 4 position, it gets too hot, melts, and shuts off the system. It is available for inspection. Hyundai is acutely aware of this problem and recalled it in other years, the same as their junk engines, but once again the owners of the 2013 are left out in the dark. This is a fire hazard that the manufacturer is trying to sweep under the rug, there are service bulletins out on it for other years.

Car started smoking on cabin while driving. Risk of hazard dueto bad A/C control switch. Wiring harness and plug melted too. Several Hyundai Veloster are suffering same issue. Started to think blower wiring is to small for load too. Pleaae see attached pictures. Time and miles provided is an approximate. Do not remember when exactly happened but was reported previously. In the pictures you are going to be able to see the faulty part P/N for your review.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, she heard an abnormal clicking sound emanating from the front of the vehicle, after which she became aware that there was excessive left and right play in the steering wheel. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was 67,000.

On going issue since 2016 with the failure of the rubber coupling in the motor driven power steering (MDPS) assembly. Loose steering, knocking noise, worsening overtime. Known issue with the Hyundai Elantra and recall issued for the same part and issue on the Elantra. But not for the Veloster, service department acknowledged identical part usage in Veloster and MDPS assembly is failing in the Veloster with same safety issues. But since no recall have been issued full cost of replacement passed to consumer. $5 dollar rubber coupler, +$500 labor.

The steering coupler for the MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) was disentegrated mostly. There are 8 cutouts on the coupler. 4 catch the motor and 4 catch the steering box. Its original and made of soft rubber. The steering always seemed vague for a sports car. The new coupler Dorman 926-990 looks like a urethane, some type of firmer material. The car steers perfectly now. The danger is from the chance that the coupler wouldn't catch when turning the steering wheel which supplies input to the MPDS and the steering wheel would turn and the front wheels wouldn't or maybe only sort of follow the intended direction.

When I took my car to the Hyundai dealer for recalls in April 2023 after they completed the service my steering coupler broke and I was told it would cost me 292.00 to repair. I went this morning to get tires at flynn's and they gave me a technical service bulletin 14-st-002-1 re: the steering coupler and told me to call Hyundai because it should be replaced for free. I phoned Hyundai dealer and they stated this does not apply to my particular vin #. It is definitely broken and should be applied to this vehicle.

Steering wheel is clicking with the slightest movement. After diagnostic at Hyundai they stated its a known issue , yet no recall for this model has been put out yet. Only on other Hyundai's. The diagnostic result given was the coupling was going bad. If this effects your ability to steer your vehicle I feel like this should be a safety recall. I have located several complaints about this same issue. On the veloster forum there are multiple people experiencing this same issue.

The HVAC control knob overheated and burned out in my car. It scorched/charred and melted the plastic switch it was plugged into in the dash. It caused a strong burnt plastic, Smokey smell inside the car while I was driving. I thought the car was on fire at first. Thank goodness it wasn’t but it really could have started a fire in the dash of the car under the right conditions. I’ve read numerous accounts online of this same exact issue on this year/model, but no action has been taken by Hyundai to rectify this dangerous design flaw. I’ve also read that it can and usually happens again to the replacement control knob and plug. It’s absolute insanity to replace it with the exact same part knowing full well that it’s most likely going to do the same exact thing again. What if it does cause a fire in the dash the next time while I’m driving? It could possibly severely injure or kill me and any passenger in the car in addition to putting other drivers at risk from a mobile flaming inferno.

The climate control knob does not function properly on my car. I removed the climate control panel from my car and found metal parts of the knob to be black and burnt and plastic parts to be melted and disformed causing the part to malfunction. All that’s needs to be replaced to fix the problem is the knob itself on the climate control panel. However, the knob is not sold individually and you must buy the whole climate control panel which costs over $200. It also seems to pose a potential fire risk if it heats up to the point that parts are melting/burning

UNKNOWN: 1) was parked and car took longer than normal to start. 2) after starting and shifting gears, car would not move forward or backwards. 3) towed to mechanic and they couldn't find anything wrong. NOTE: all gauges were on and was able to shift as normal.

The Heater Fan switch is failing the same way Hyundai Technical Service Bulletin 10-01-070 describes the issue for 2014 and 2015 Hyundai Velosters but the TSB is not applicable to my 2013 Hyundai Veloster even though my Heater Fan Switch is exhibiting the same issues. The YouTube videos I have seen regarding this Heater Fan Switch failure show that the switch is melting down in the dashboard due to poor electrical contacts which could result in a fire in the dashboard.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the braking system malfunctioned, and the brake pedal extended to the floorboard while being depressed. The contact stated that upon inspection, it was discovered that brake fluid was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who informed the contact that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 73,000.

The contact's god-daughter owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that the ABS warning light and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000(Service Brakes, Hydraulic) was performed; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle at the residence, the contact noticed that the ABS fuse was blown. The contact replaced the ABS fuse; however, the ABS motor made an abnormal whining and humming sound. The ABS motor then blew up and caught on fire. The contact stated that he was able to extinguish the 12 inch high flames with a bottle of water. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the ABS unit and the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the recall remedy failed to fix the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened; however, the manufacturer later sent a letter to the contact advising that the claim was denied. The failure mileage was approximately 87,700.

The contact then received a second recall notice that stated that parts for the recall repair were available. The local dealer was contacted about the recall and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change and the recall repair; however, the contact was later informed that the dealer was out parts for the recall repair and was not able to service the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vehicle is burning through oil without having oil light engaged. Vehicle is going through two quart + of oil every 3 weeks. Just added 2 quarts of oil 3 weeks ago when the car would not accelerate past 5mph and rough idled (this turned out to be caused by a different issue still being diagnosed), I added the oil as dip stick showed no oil on the stick. Light did not come on. Took to independent mechanic this week who stated I had no oil in the vehicle. Can not go 3 month/3000 miles for an oil change or the engine would be damaged. Have taken the vehicle several times to Valvoline who indicate no oil with no oil pressure light on, each time. This has been constant for 2 years. Each mechanic shop states the GDI engines are burning through oil. No oil leaks have been detected. This issue could result in serious engine damage.

The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming 3 quarts of oil every 3,500 miles. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, she heard an abnormal sound and pulled to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon inspecting the engine oil level, there was no oil on the dipstick. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light failed to illuminate. The contact then pulled into the nearest gas station, where oil was added to the engine. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light had failed to illuminate while the engine oil level was low on several occasions. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the low oil pressure warning was designed to illuminate when the oil level was 2 quarts low; however, the contact stated that the warning light had failed to illuminate. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for an oil consumption test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and had recall repair completed. The contact stated on 6/26/2022 while driving 60 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact continued driving to AutoZone and was informed that cylinder #4 had an unknown error code. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact took the vehicle to back to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing all four fuel injectors replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,150.

Driving on the interstate back from work going 60+ mph. The Vehicle TURNS OFF AND I LOST POWER, my RPMS DROPPED TO 0 and it was no longer accelerating. It’s AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I had to cruise my way off to the side and get my car towed to a shop. THIS COULD HAVE KILLED ME

6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION CLUTCH PEDAL DROPS TO THE FLOOR BY ITSELF AND DOES NOT DISENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. CANNOT SHIFT INTO OR OUT OF ANY GEAR. HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES EITHER DRIVING OR PARKED ENGINE RUNNING OR NOT. IF I RAISE THE PEDAL BY HAND IT REMAINS UP AND THE CLUTCH AND THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY UNTIL THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS. VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE I CANNOT MANEUVER SAFELY CAUSING OTHER CARS TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTIONS TO AVOID ME UNTIL I CAN SAFELY REACH DOWN UNDER THE DASH TO LIFT THE PEDAL AND REGAIN CONTROL. REPORTED TO DEALER THREE TIMES BUT THEY REFUSE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T MAKE IT HAPPEN AT WILL.

WITHIN THE LAST MONTH MY VELOSTER HAD CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE TURBOCHARGER. AFTER A $1200.00 REPAIR IT THREW 2 CONNECTING RODS THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING ANOTHER CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND AN IMPENDING $3000.00-5000.00 REPAIR BILL. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION BOTH TIMES.

MY VELOSTER TURBO CONSUMES BETWEEN 3-4 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGE. I HAVE THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE POWER TRAIN BUT THEY WILL NOT LOOK AT THE ENGINE UNTIL WE PREFORM A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH REQUIRES ME TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY 1000 MILES IN ORDER FOR THEM TO LOOK AT THE ENGINE. I'VE BROUGHT IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND KEEP GETTING DIFFERENT EXCUSES AS TO WHY THIS PROBLEM EXIST. THE SHOP MANAGER EXPLAINED THE ISSUE THIS LAST TIME, SO THEY KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, THEY JUST WILL NOT FIX IT OR LOOK AT IT, UNTIL WE PERFORM THIS "TEST". IF WE CONTINUE AT THIS PACE MY CAR WILL BE OVER 100,000 MILES AND THE WARRANTY WILL BE VOIDED. I HAVE PERFORMED ALL OF MY OIL CHANGES ON TIME. HYUNDAI WILL NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY ON THE POWER TRAIN.

WHEN STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE AND THE CLUTCH DOWN AT THE SAME TIME ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS IT SEEMS THE SYSTEM LOSES PRESSURE AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL STICKS TO THE FLOOR AND WILL NOT RELEASE. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CLUTCH UP IS TO LIFT WITH FOOT OR HAND CAUSING A DELAY IN TAKING OFF. THIS HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THEM NOT TO REPLICATE RESULTING IN MY FAMILY DRIVING THIS CAR UNTIL SOME FURTHER ACTION IS TAKEN OR THE PROBLEM GETS WORSE. IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO DO THIS WHILE IN NEUTRAL SHIFTING TO FIRST WHILE HITTING THE BRAKE AND THE CLUTCH COMING TO A STOP. SOME RESEARCH ON THE NET SAYS SLAVE OR MASTER CYLINDER STICKING.

No lamp messages, however the front and rear windshield wipers will not stop when put in the off position. Windshield sprayers will not activate. I've had to pull the fuses to the wipers, though now the wipers work when turned on, but will not seat themselves nor does the sprayer mechanism work still. In neither situation of fuses in or not, I have no intermittent on options for either front or back windshield wipers. When driving, if I get spashed with snow/slush, I lose all visibility; and can only blindly pull over use a spray bottle and hand towel to clean my windows. I have been finding that this is a problem with not just my vehicle, but that it is a repeat problem for multiple people with the same car make and model. I hope nobody is ran over because a driver can't see due to faulty windshield wiper controls.

WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE SUNROOF EXPLODED AND SENT GLASS FLYING INTO AND AROUND CAR. THERE WAS NOTHING NEARBY THAT COULD HAVE HIT AND DAMAGED THE SUNROOF SO VIOLENTLY, AND THE INCIDENT SEEMS TO BE CAUSED BY THE SAME MANUFACTURER DEFECT AS 2012 HYUNDAI MODELS COVERED IN THE RECALL. THE CAR IS A 2013 TURBO MODEL THOUGH, SO IT IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF I WASN'T AWARE OF THE PROBLEM IN ADVANCE SO I COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND REACT ACCORDINGLY. HYUNDAI WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM SINCE ITS OUTSIDE OF THE INITIAL WARRANTY DESPITE THE FACT THAT ITS CONSISTENT WITH THE OTHER SUNROOF RECALL. OTHER PROBLEMS INCLUDE HAVING TO HAVE A CLUTCH REPLACED AT 45000 DUE TO ANOTHER MANUFACTURER DEFECT (CAR WOULDNT ACCELERATE IN 1ST OR 2ND GEAR), AND NEEDING AN ENGINE REPLACED AT 60000 FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON. I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW (DROVE OFF THE LOT WITH 12 MILES ON ODOMETER) AND HAVE HAD ALL MAINTENANCE, INCLUDING OIL CHANGES, DONE BY THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. SO FAR THE CAR IS GIVING ME MORE PROBLEMS THE LONGER I OWN IT.

One night I was driving on the highway and my check engine light came on. At first I thought it was weird because I had just gotten the car from a dealership three weeks prior. I pulled into a gas station and checked my oil which was low so I added some oil that I had bought. As I was driving home the car suddenly developed a tick and started to lose power. The turbo stopped working. I was pretty concerned about this so the next morning I decided to top off the oil and I decided to take the car into a shop. The first shop heard the engine knock and told me that my crankshaft might be going bad but I wanted a second opinion so I took it to a trusted shop who heard the engine knock and told me the engine would need to be replaced. I called the warranty company and they inspected it at the shop and said the engine would need to be torn down for diagnosis. I had to agree to pay for the shop to tear down the engine if it would not be covered. The shop found metal shavings in the oil pan. Once the engine was apart, they said that the rod bearing was bad. The car and engine are available for inspection.

There is an open recall for my 2013 Veloster turbo 1.6 turbo engine code 182 from Hyundai. But it’s not showing under my VIN. My car have exact problems that is described in the recall. “ Engine damage can increase the risk of a fire or cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.” so I went to the dealership but they said they won’t help me with the recall and they can fix my car but they are going to charge me.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, MY 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER STARTED HAVING ISSUES ON 5/14/19 SO I SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR 5/16 AT MURDOCK HYUNDAI. DURING MY SERVICE VISIT I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL (#182) ON MY CAR BUT THEY CURRENTLY DID NOT HAVE A FIX FROM HYUNDAI AT THAT TIME. MY CAR WAS PARKED FROM 5/16/19 TO 6/3/19 WHEN I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TAKE IT BACK TO MURDOCK HYUNDAI TO HAVE THE RECALL ISSUE FIXED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT UPDATED THE DEFECTIVE SOFTWARE AND MY CAR DROVE PERFECTLY. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING MY CAR HOME FROM WORK IT STARTED HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS IT DID BEFORE THE UPDATE. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SOONEST THEY COULD GET ME BACK IN WAS 6/7/19 SO AGAIN I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT MY FUEL INJECTOR AND SPARK PLUG/COILS WERE DAMAGED AND NEED REPLACEMENT. ON 6/11/19 I SPOKE WITH A GENTLEMAN NAMED SEAN AT THE NATIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS FOR HYUNDAI REGARDING THE REPAIRS NEEDED AND I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK AFTER HE REACHED OUT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING BACK. I SENT HIM A FOLLOW UP EMAIL ON 6/18/19 AND STILL NO RESPONSE. IT HAS BEEN OVER 30 DAYS SINCE THIS ISSUE BEGAN AND IT'S STILL NOT RESOLVED. I WORK FULL TIME AND HAVE BEEN RELYING ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION BECAUSE I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE WITHOUT CAUSING FURTHER DAMAGE. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THE RECALL UPDATE FIXED THE PROBLEM AND HAS CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE IN RESOLVING THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

So there are a few issues that need to fixed with this that just randomly stopped working. First the driver side door will not unlock and sometimes it locks with my key fob. Second, My air bag Symbol has also popped up and will not go away. My horn will not honk and the right side on the steering wheel buttons suddenly stopped working. And now my passenger side back door will not open from the inside and out. These are things that shouldn’t be happening to the car, it’s not even 10 years old since I’ve had the car. Please fix these issues which at the dealership charge an arm and a leg to fix these issues. We need recalls for these issue to get fixed that Hyundai couldn’t do when they released these car types.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving into a parking lot, a small rock fell on the panoramic sunroof and the sunroof shattered. The contact stated that the shade guard was closed at the time of the failure. There was no injury sustained. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that their location did not perform sunroof glass replacement. The dealer referred the contact to an auto glass repair shop, where the shattered glass was removed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where pictures of the failure were taken and sent to the manufacturer. The manufacturer informed the dealer that they could not cover the sunroof glass replacement because the moving part of the sunroof glass was not shattered. The contact followed up with the warranty department and was informed that the dealer had denied repairing the vehicle under the warranty because the failure was caused by a rock. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD GOING ABOUT 60 MILES PER HOUR MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. I DID NOT HIT ANY BUMPS NOR DID ANY OBJECT STRIKE MY VEHICLE. IT SOUNDED LIKE A BOMB WENT OFF IN MY VEHICLE. LUCKILY I HAD THE SHADE CLOSED SO THE GLASS LAID ON THE SHADE. HOWEVER, LOOKING IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR THERE WAS A LOT OF GLASS FLYING AROUND. NO ONE WAS AROUND ME AT THE TIME OF THE EXPLOSION. MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER IS FIXING THE GLASS FOR HALF THE COST OF THE ACTUAL REPAIR PER HYUNDAI CORPORATION. I STILL WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE INVESTIGATED. I'M TERRIFIED IT'LL HAPPEN AGAIN AFTER IT IS FIXED.

On five separate occasions the vehicle engine has shut off completely while driving in traffic. Fortunately my wife was able to coast to the side of the road, but in all instances a serious road hazard and danger to safety for both us as well as the public was created. We are now no longer driving the vehicle out of fear of our safety. We have contacted the Hyundai dealership where all the prior 4+ years of service has been done, as well as Hyundai USA. Both have said they will not investigate. After the first two occurrences, I was told the original engine needed to be replaced due to metal shavings in the internal components. This is the exact same reason for the recent global recall, however Hyundai said our model was not covered under the warranty even though it was the same issue. We had the Hyundai Dealership replace the engine and within one month it happened again. This time they said the catalytic converter/exhaust manifold had failed again (this was the third catalytic converter). Since then, the engine has shut off two more times while driving. A local certified mechanic has inspected it and said he has seen several similar problems with other Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai USA refuses to address the issue.

TO MAKE A VERY LONG STORY SHORT, I HAD TO GET MY ENGINE REPLACED IN LATE 2017 DUE TO THE ENGINE THROWING A ROD. IT TOOK 3 MONTHS TO REPAIR BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS BEHIND DUE TO OTHER PEOPLE HAVING ENGINE MALFUNCTIONS. AFTER MY HUSBAND DROVE MY CAR OFF THE LOT, MY CAR WAS SOUNDING A LITTLE FUNNY, ALMOST LIKE A SUCKING NOSE THAT WE ENDED UP HAVING TO TAKE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THAT I NEEDED TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS WELL UNDER WARRANTY LIMIT. I ENDED UP SPEAKING WITH THE MANAGER AND HE HAD THE TECHNICIAN LOOK AT IT TO ONLY BE TOLD IT WAS NOTHING ENGINE RELATED EVEN THOUGH MY ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON! A FEW MONTHS AFTER THAT, MY CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AND WAS INOPERABLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I NEEDED ANOTHER ENGINE REPLACEMENT DUE TO LOW PRESSURE IN ONE CYLINDER! THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY SINCE THEY ALREADY TOOK CARE OF IT THE FIRST TIME. WE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THROUGH OUR ADVISOR AT THE SERVICE CENTER DEALERSHIP THAT SHE HAS AN EMAIL STATING THAT FAULTY PARTS WERE USED DURING THE FIRST ENGINE 'REPAIR'. ME AND MY HUSBAND HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE IT WAS NOT DRIVE-ABLE AND THEY ENDED UP SELLING THE VEHICLE AT AUCTION FOR $1700 IN FEBRUARY 2019. DURING THE SAME MONTH A RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A RECALL NUMBER AND HAVE SPOKE TO 3 DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO TO RESOLVE THE BALANCE I HAVE LEFT TO PAY ON THE CAR OF $8710. I KNEW THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE LAST FEW TIMES I'VE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THERE WERE A LOT OF VEHICLES NEEDING ENGINE REPLACEMENTS. THIS HAS BEEN FRUSTRATING TO DEAL WITH THE PAST FEW YEARS AND IT'S AFFECTING MY CREDIT AND I NEED IT RESOLVED ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS WAS NOT OUR FAULTS AND WE WERE DENIED THE USE OF THE WARRANTY WE WERE PAYING FOR.

MY VELOSTER WAS AT 73K MILES WHEN ITS ENGINE WAS BLOWN UP. WHILE I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY ON A FAST-FOOD PARKING LOT, I HEARD A LOUD BANG, AND METAL CLANG FROM THE HOOD OF MY CAR. THE CAR LOST ITS POWER AND THERE WAS SMOKING COMING OUT FROM THE HOOD AS WELL. SO, I WENT TO POP THE HOOD UP. THERE WAS OIL SPLASHED ON THE ENGINE. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO HYUNDAI DEALER TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A BLOWN ENGINE ISSUE. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS HAPPENED TO ME. I HAD JUST BOUGHT THE CAR FOR 2 MONTHS FROM A DEALER. THE DEALER I BOUGHT FROM HAD THE CAR INSPECTED AND VERIFIED THAT IT WAS IN EXCELLENT HEALTH, AND EVERYTHING. I HAD NOT INSTALLED ANY AFTERMARKET PARTS OR TWEAKED ANYTHING ON THIS VEHICLE, BESIDES REPLACING A NEW SET OF TIRES. On October 17, 2024, owner was leaving Denver, CO on the highway and had to stop for traffic and vehicle wouldn't move. Was in drive but vehicle would not drive and pulled to side of road. Had insurance tow to nearest Hyundai dealership. Check engine light was on and dealership checked vehicle and needed to have the crankshaft position sensor replaced. Fixed the problem thank God and I was on my road shortly there after. My Veloster is 2013 with 47,000 miles at time of incident.

Electrical issues & engine issues. 2013 Hyundai Veloster. - purchased brand new and September 2013. CENTEREACH HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. Since day one I’ve had many issues. So I’m having multiple repairs and replacement of AC /Heat blower,switches, Resistors,-Blower head unit, radio,Control head ( Internally shorting.Recall #948 ( canister cracked).report to dealer sells of exhaust coming in car. Also had replaced Right rear door actuator. July 2018 complained of transmission slipping not going into gear pulling back etc. Dealer claims no trouble calls. Once again I am having the same issues. This time driver side window goes down by itself and will not stay up, I have to manually open passenger side door lock and once again the blower does not work. Lights on my dash all lit oil light had been flickering, tire pressure light stays on and airbag light is lit. Just recently I have been driving in the car and had thought in the middle of driving that the transmission had went the car mediately pulled back and did not move I was lucky enough to have guided it over to the side of the road. NHTSA # 19V204000 ( Hyundai recall #182) 2013 Hyundai Veloster - although it states four”TURBO ENGINE” only I am having the same exact problems. Let’s not wait until the engine goes on fire or causes a serious accident ! I am more than concerned and worried about this for I have no other transportation. I have contacted Hyundai customer care service. Both emailed and called. Hyundai Consumer Affairs # 18383206. I had also been advised over the phone(which I am was not aware of) another recall #966 - Involving a Hyundai Veloster’s 2012 -2017, as per rep. She set up an appointment with the dealership in which I go to, and also purchased the car, I asked her to please forward me a copy of the email and what she sent to the dealership, in which I am still waiting. THE VELOSTER RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 3 TO 4 MONTHS THIS TIME. NOW WE ARE BACK TO THE CAR HAVING ISSUES TODAY 7/11/20 LOSS OF POWER UNDER ACCELERATION,ROUGH IDEL,KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM ENGINE. HYUNDAI WANTED $900 PLUS TO REPAIR. MY CAR WAS PASS THE 60K WARRANTY SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO REPAIRED THE BRAKES BUT THEY NEVER WORKED. SO I DECIDED TO JUST DRIVE WITHOUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKES UNTIL LAST YEAR, 2019 WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. On or about May 1, 2025, I was operating my 2013 Hyundai Veloster when flames were observed emanating from under the hood. I immediately pulled into the median and, upon opening the hood, observed an active fire beneath the plastic engine cover. I contacted 911. Before the fire department arrived, a passerby extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters from a nearby station arrived shortly thereafter and fully doused the engine compartment. The vehicle was subsequently towed to a Hyundai dealership. At that time, I was aware of an active recall related to potential brake line issues that could result in an engine compartment fire. After the vehicle remained at the dealership for an extended period, I was informed that Hyundai Motor America (“HMA”) would send an inspector. Approximately 30 days later, I was contacted by HMA’s corporate office and asked to provide documentation, including a copy of the title and insurance information. During this call, I was advised that while repair or replacement of the vehicle was unlikely, HMA would “make me whole.” Shortly thereafter, I received written correspondence from HMA stating that, following its review of the inspection results, documents, and other information, no product defect was identified as the cause of the incident. The letter concluded that HMA would not accept responsibility and denied my request for assistance or compensation.

I PURCHASED MY 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER IN FALL OF 2015 AS SECOND OWNER FROM WORLD HYUNDAI IN MATTESON, IL. IT HAD ROUGHLY 32,000 ON THE ODOMETER. AFTER TWO DECENT YEARS OF RELATIVELY TROUBLE FREE OWNERSHIP THE "ELECTRICAL GREMLINS" ATTACKED THE TRUNK RELEASE, THEN THE REVERSE CAMERA, THEN THE CLIMATE CONTROL KNOB. I WAS RELUCTANT TO TAKE THE CAR IN AGAIN BECAUSE I HAD SPENT MORE MONEY ON DIAGNOSTIC CHARGES THAN I HAD ON ITEMS THAT WERE COVERED. I LIKED THE VEHICLE AND METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED IT TO SPEC AS WELL. ON ONE OF THE COLDEST DAYS IN WINTER OF 2019, I WENT OUT TO START UP MY VELOSTER AND WAS TERRIFIED BY A LOUD METAL TICKING FOLLOWED BY RATTLING IN THE MOTOR. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN THE CAR. I WAITED A BIT THEN TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. IT WAS VERY BAD. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE CLOSEST HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN WHICH I DESCRIBED ALL THE ISSUES WITH THE CAR. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE HAS ROUGHLY 92000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND OF COURSE THE TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BUT, REPLACE THE MOTOR FOR AROUND $4500 , SELL ME A NEW ONE, OR BUY IT IN TRADE. ONCE AGAIN I PAID OVER $430 IN DIAGNOSTIC FEES WITH NO COVERAGE OR HELP. LOOKED AROUND ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THESE VEHICLES HAS HAD ALL OF THE ABOVE ISSUES AND NO CLEAR SOLUTIONS TO ANY. INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JULY 21ST 2017 AT 1:45PM AT 9701 DESSAU ROAD, AUSTIN TEXAS. The blower fan only blows slightly and the knob does not work. This was a known issue with the 2014, but not the 2013. This causes a significant safety concern to someone living in extreme heat, especially children and the elderly.

I bought the 2013 Base Version Veloster w/ 80,000 miles on it back in 2021, beginning of January having no problems with the vehicle. Halfway through the month my Veloster started having on and off transmission problems, then at the end of the month, not even a month into owning the vehicle , my car won’t go into gear and my gear light is blinking on my dashboard. I do my research and see ALOT of Velosters have this problem, but don’t know the reason for it. So I proceed to take it to a trusted mechanic that does a diagnoses and determines I need a new TMC module, and also determined nothing else was wrong with the car. I had to wait 8 months to get the part from the Hyundai dealership and finally when they get it fixed, they tell me to take it to the Hyundai dealership to get it reprogram, because the car was put into limp mode after the new module was put in. After I picked up my vehicle, I took it to the dealership. I left them with all the information and insist that I only want to reprogram my TCM Module. They proceed to do a diagnosis on my car and call me the same day, saying They have a recall on the rode bearings and also that I need a new transmission, and will replace it for 7,100$. I was mortified. The vehicle is only 80,000, and I already have to replace the transmission after buying the vehicle, I feel scammed. If I see that thousands of people are having this same problem, I believe it needs to be address.

Connecting rod failure. A test was ran on my car and this code came up even though my check engine light was off. There is a rattling when accelerating and a decrease in speed when accelerating. The rattling began a little less than a year ago so I took it to a shop but they said it couldn’t be fixed because the engine is enclosed. Basically to fix this issue I would need an entire new engine and it is already causing major issues on my vehicle. This is a safety issue because the engine could just fail.

First the turbo stopped working n smoking. Took it to the dealer n they had it for a month.. Get it back one day later had to have it towed . Vehicle was there for another 2 weeks got it back and it started to smoke. I pressed on the gas pedal n the car wouldn’t move! The first time the turbo was supposed to be replaced I believe ever since it was sent there to be replaced it was never the same. I still have the car and it will not start. The turbo n engine are filled with oils .

So the vehicle wants to hesitate and buck violently to the point of nearly stalling out while accelerating and prevents the car from being able to merge into highway traffic in a safe manner and the surrounding years make and model are all on a recall due to a E.C.U. required update for a necessary reflashing for the ability to be use the automobile in the way it's designer/designers can make make want h. The blower for the AC and heater stopped working. It evidently caught fire because there is a burnt smell. When I searched the problem, I noticed that you already did a recall for this but left out the 2013 models. This is extremely dangerous as it could catch fire while driving. I have had the ABS checked by Hyundai dealership per recall and they told me there was no issues, but I’m having a lot of problems with accelerating, and it shifting gears, I don’t think the system is really diagnosing, whenever I turn my car on sometimes it will do a diagnostic read, but it can’t send data, and it will take a while for the system to reset itself. It does smell like my car is smoking and I will have to physically roll my window down and/or poke my head out the window to make sure it’s not smoking. I’m checking my temperature gauge in my car to make sure it id within normal range. And when the check engine light comes on, sometimes it will come up and will blink for a few seconds and then disappear. Then I will go to O’Reilly’s or Advanced Auto Zone to get a reading the common codes that have come up were P0401, P0442,

A few months ago, my ABS and Traction Control lights began to come on and off randomly. Then, new lights would pop up, such as Check Engine and the Brake light. These lights would come on, and then go off very sporadically. In the last week, it had gotten much worse. My tire pressure light and EPS light had came on as well, totaling about 6 or 7 lights that are on and won't go off. Then, my steering wheel became increasingly hard to turn, I' m guessing because the EPS was off. Then, my speedometer completely stopped working, and my gas gauge was jumping up and down after I had filled it to a full tank. I pulled the code, and got code for a wheel speed sensor. I replaced the wheel speed sensor, and no lights went off. I then inspected the fuses, noticed that the ABS fuse was blown, and decided to replace it. I replaced it, and the ABS module (or pump) started to smoke badly. The car had a heavy electrical smoke smell and I didn't think it was safe to drive for a while. Hyundais have had recalls for ABS modules smoking before, but never for a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, and I believe that is something that should be investigated because I believe I could have been injured.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 20-25 mph, he heard an abnormally loud sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle started to shake with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated her husband was able to pull to the side of the road, where he noticed that smoke was coming from under the hood. Additionally, there was oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a large hole in the cylinder block. The fire was started due to a mixture of fuel and oil. The contact was informed by the mechanic that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 19V204000 (Electrical System, Engine) however, the recall repair was already completed on the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was not related to the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that she was responsible for the cost of repair since the vehicle was out of warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 69,204.

HELLO, I BELIEVE THERE IS AN UNDERLYING ISSUE WITH THE VELOSTER 2013 THAT HYUNDAI HAS NOT ADDRESSED PROPERLY WITH THEIR SERVICE CAMPAIGN. I HAD RECEIVED THE SERVICE AROUND 06/01/19 (I AM NOT SURE EXACTLY WHEN) AND A YEAR LATER HAVE HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS THIS SERVICE WAS SUPPOSED TO ADDRESS. I HAVE HAD ENGINE STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET NEAR USC ON A BUSY INTERSECTION AND HAD TO MOVE THE CAR BY FOOT IN FEAR OF GETTING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. I'VE ALSO HAD ENGINE POWER ISSUES THAT SEEM TO HAVE PERSISTED. WHEN THIS HAPPENED I TOOK IT INTO A MECHANIC TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE, THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS A BAD COIL PACK FOR WHICH THEY DID A TUNE UP (SPARK PLUGS, COIL PACKS, OIL FILTER). SHORTLY AFTER THE TUNE-UP I HAD PROBLEMS OF THE SAME MISFIRING ISSUE WHERE THERE WOULD BE NO POWER TO THE ENGINE AND A SLIGHT KNOCKING NOISE. I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO HUNDAI KEYES MISSION HILLS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THIS TIME AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING, BAD COIL PACK. THERE HAVE BEEN KNOWN ENGINE FAILURES DUE TO THE ECU, AND HAVE READ MANY ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ECU. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO FAIL PREMATURELY AS THE MISFIRES WOULD SEND UNBURNED FUEL INTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I INITIALLY GOT IN CONTACT WITH A SERVICE MANAGER AT HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS ON FEB 15TH AND HE HAS FINALLY CALLED ME TODAY 03/15/19 AFTER WEEKS OF TRYING TO GET UPDATES. TO MAKE A VERY LONG STORY SHORT, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND MY CAR SUDDENLY EXPLODED AND OIL SPEWED OUT TOWARDS THE REAR. I HAD TO GET MY ENGINE REPLACED IN LATE 2017 DUE TO THE ENGINE THROWING A ROD. IT TOOK 3 MONTHS TO REPAIR BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS BEHIND DUE TO OTHER PEOPLE HAVING ENGINE MALFUNCTIONS. IT TOOK WEEKS TO GET A RENTAL WHICH WAS HECTIC BECAUSE ME AND MY HUSBAND BOTH WORKED AND COMMUTED WITH A 2-YEAR OLD. AFTER MY HUSBAND DROVE MY CAR OFF THE LOT, MY CAR WAS SOUNDING A LITTLE FUNNY, ALMOST LIKE A SUCKING NOSE THAT WE ENDED UP HAVING TO TAKE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THAT I NEEDED TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS WELL UNDER WARRANTY LIMIT. I ENDED UP SPEAKING WITH THE MANAGER AND HE HAD THE TECHNICIAN LOOK AT IT TO ONLY BE TOLD IT WAS NOTHING ENGINE RELATED EVEN THOUGH MY ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON! A FEW MONTHS AFTER THAT, MY CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AND WAS INOPERABLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I NEEDED ANOTHER ENGINE REPLACEMENT! THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY SINCE THEY ALREADY TOOK CARE OF IT THE FIRST TIME. THE COST TO REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER WHAT THE VALUE OF MY CAR IS. ME AND MY HUSBAND HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE IT WAS NOT DRIVE-ABLE AND THEY ENDED UP SELLING THE VEHICLE AT AUCTION FOR $1700 IN FEBRUARY 2019. I RECENTLY JUST FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR IS UNDER RECALL FOR THE SAME REASONS IT WAS IN THE SHOP THE FIRST 3 TIMES. HYUNDAI CONCLUDES THAT THE 2013 VELOSTER WERE HAVING ENGINE AND MECHANICAL ISSUES. I HAVE A RECALL NUMBER AND HAVE SPOKE TO 3 DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO TO RESOLVE THE BALANCE I HAVE LEFT TO PAY ON THE CAR OF $8710. THE HEATING CONTROL UNIT KNOB DOES NOT SET ON THE VARIOUS SETTINGS (1-4) AND DOES NOT BLOW HEAT OR AIR CORRECTLY. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AND END UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE UNIT THEMSELVES. THE ISSUE IS THE CONTACTS GET BURNED OUT AND NO LONGER WORK. THIS IS A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD AND I DONT KNOW WHY A RECALL HASNT BEEN ISSUED. IF YOU SEARCH ONLINE YOU WILL SEE NUMEROUS EXAMPLES OF WHAT I AM REFERRING TO. IF I REPLACE THIS MYSELF I HAVE TO RISK DAMAGING MY CAR OR ELECTROCUTING MYSELF AND PAYING FOR AN EXPENSIVE PART. 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER NON TURBO 39,000 MILES CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE AND ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A RURAL ROAD, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND THE CAR LOST POWER. I NOTICED SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED. IT WAS NOTED THAT THE ENGINE HAD A LOUD TICKING SOUND THAT IT DID NOT HAVE PRIOR TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. THE ENGINE IS GOING TO BE REPLACED WITH COST SHARE FROM HYUNDAI. THIS IS NOT A UNIQUE ISSUE AND HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME EXACT SAME ISSUE IN THE KIA SOUL WITH THE 1.6L ENGINE. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN FULL BY THE MANUFACTURER.

I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MULTIPLE ITEMS FIXED ON MY 2013 VELOSTER TURBO, I HAVE HAD THE FACTORY SPEAKERS REPLACED BECAUSE THEY HAVE BLOWN, HAD TO HAVE THE A/C CONTROL JOB REPLACED AND RECENTLY THE RED AIR BAG LIGHT HAS COME ON. MECHANICALLY IT HAS BEEN WORSE, AT 72000 MILES OR SO THE TURBO BLEW WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS WAS FORTUNATELY COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. I STARTED HAVING TO REPLACE SPARK PLUGS FREQUENTLY AS THEY BECAME COVERED IN OIL, THEN IN FEBRUARY MY ENGINE GAVE OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID A COMPRESSION TEST AND TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 5000 MILES SO I HAD TO BUY A USED ENGINE AND HAVE IT REPLACED, THREE MONTHS LATER I GOT A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM WAS RECALLED.

THE TRUNK LATCH HAD BEEN FAILING INTERMITTENTLY. I STOPPED AT A DEALERSHIP WHO OPENED THE DRIVER'S DOOR, AND BEGAN LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM AT THE TIME. I ASKED HOW PLAYING WITH THE LOCKS WOULD FIX THE TRUNK ISSUE. THE QUESTION WAS NOT ANSWERED. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. HOWEVER, THE TRUNK LATCH FINALLY FAILED PERMANENTLY. I COULD NOT OPEN THE TRUNK VIA THE EMERGENCY LATCH FROM THE IN SIDE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE ISSUE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. HENCE, THE DOOR LOCK REMIDEY. MULTIPLE VELOSTER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME WITH SOME YEARS BEING RECALLED. THE 2013 HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED AND THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED 400.00 TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND IT NOW HAS 50,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE SAFETY ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT HAVE BEEN RESOLVED BUT FYI-ISSUE WITH ABS KICKING IN DURING EVERY SINGLE BRAKE, EVEN IF AT A RED LIGHT. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND TEST-DROVE ANOTHER 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. THE ABS ONLY KICKED IN WHEN APPROPRIATE NOT WITH EVERY SINGLE BREAK. WHILE PURCHASING TIRES AFTER A 3RD BLOWOUT ( 30, 000 MILES) THE TIRE COMPANY NOTICED SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SENSORS TO THE ABS. THIS WAS RESOLVED BY THE TIRE COMPANY. IT'S CONCERNING THAT HUYNDAI WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE ABS ISSUE. IN FACT, THEY DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE ANYTHING-- MY GPS NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY WHICH WAS REPORTED TO HYUNDAI AT LEAST 10 TIMES OVER A THREE-YEAR PERIOD. I FINALLY MADE A VIDEO OF THE MALFUNCTION- AS SOON AS I SUBMITTED THE VIDEO THE GPS WAS REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. PROBLEM BEING THE NEW GPS WAS THE SAME MODEL AS THE FIRST AND DOES NOT WORK EITHER. I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE WITHOUT A GPS AND WITHOUT A TRUNK THAT OPENS.

MY WIFE HAS A 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER TURBO AND THE HVAC SYSTEM HAS STOPPED FUNCTIONING. AFTER INVESTIGATING THE MATTER I DISCOVERED A MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE. THE POWER WIRE LEADING TO THE CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE OVERHEATED AND MELTED THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR AND DESTROYED THE CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE. THIS COULD HAVE STARTED A FIRE. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE IMMEDIATELY TO NOTIFY THEM OF THE ISSUE AND SO THAT THEY WOULD COVER THE REPAIR COSTS FULLY. I ALSO INFORMED THEM OF TWO OTHER ISSUES, ONE, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS ARE MALFUNCTIONING AND TWO, ONE OF THE LED LIGHTS IN THE PASSENGER TAIL LIGHT IS OUT. I RECEIVED A CASE NUMBER FROM THEM, #15272744. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT LANCASTER HYUNDAI LOCATED ON MAIN STREET IN EAST PETERSBURG PA AND DROPPED THE CAR OFF. I ALSO INFORMED THEM OF ALL THE ISSUES AND MY FINDINGS (THIS WAS YESTERDAY 1/18/19). THIS MORNING (1/19/19) I RECEIVED A CALL BACK FROM SERVICE ADVISOR DAVID COREY WHO LEFT ME A VOICEMAIL STATING THAT HYUNDAI HAS DECLINED TO COVER THE REPAIRS AND TELLING ME TO COME PICK UP THE CAR. SINCE THEN I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE TO NO AVAIL. THIS ISSUE WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ONLINE AND THERE HAS EVEN BEEN A RECALL FOR IT ISSUED BY HYUNDAI BUT FOR SOME REASON MY WIFE'S VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE UPLOADED PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGED CONNECTOR AND WIRING HARNESS AS WELL AS A PHOTO FROM ANOTHER HYUNDAI VELOSTER OWNER WHICH SHOWS THE RECALL FOR THE CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE. I AM THANKFUL TO GOD THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT CATCH FIRE SINCE MY WIFE AND TWO YEAR OLD SON TRAVEL IN IT EVERY DAY. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGE, DESPITE THEY HAD DONE SOME RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE, BUT WERE NEVER NOTIFY OF THIS RECALL OR OF THE POSSIBILITIES THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN.. I KEEP UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE OF THE CAR REGULARLY AND FOR SOMETHING SO HUGE OF THAT NATURE TO HAPPEN IS BIZARRE. APPARENTLY HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF HYUNDAIS HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE (RODS BEING THROWN). I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS MANY OTHER DRIVERS WITH NO RESOLUTION. I'VE REACHED OUT HYUNDAI MULTIPLE TIMES TO HAVE THEM INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND HAVE EVEN HAD THEM JUST DRIVE IT AROUND BECAUSE YOU CAN TELL RIGHT AWAY THIS CAR DRIVES FUNNY. ONE AFTERNOON DURING RUSH HOUR IN THE BRONX MY GEAR STICK WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM P TO D SO I HAD TO USE THE OVERRIDE SHIFTIER FUNCTION JUST TO GET MY CAR TO MOVE. ALONG WITH THE GEAR SHIFT NOT WORKING NONE OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE CAR WORKED NOT MY INDICATORS/HAZARDS, MY WINDOWS WONT WIND DOWN SO I COULD AT LEAST SIGNAL MY INTENTION, MY WIND SHIELD WIPERS WERE NON OPERABLE AND MY SEAT BELT SENSOR DOES NOT WORK. IT WAS POURING OUT THIS DAY AND I HAD NO VISIBILITY BECAUSE MY WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK AND COULD NOT SIGNAL TO OTHER DRIVERS MY INTENTIONS. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE AFTERMARKET AUTO START THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD INSTALLED. SO I HAD THE AUTO START REMOVED BUT THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS, HYUNDAI IS UNSURE OF WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. HYUNDAI IS SUGGESTING A COMPLETE REWIRING BECAUSE THEY ARE UNSURE EXACTLY WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE AND CLAIM IT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, WHICH ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WILL COST ME UPWARD OF 7000$. I AM SURE THIS IS A DEFECT THERE IS NO WAY A CAR WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES SHOULD BE HAVING SUCH MAJOR ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE WITHOUT ANY INDICATORS OR MY GEAR SHIFTIER WORKING. WHEN MAKING A U-TURN OR PULLING INTO PARKING SPOTS IT TAKES ME TWICE AS LONG BECAUSE I NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING SHARP HANDY TO PUSH INTO THE GEAR SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON.

ELECTRONIC GEAR MOTOR OVERHEATED AND LEFT VEHICLE IN OVERDRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY IN STOPPED/SLOWED TRAFFIC. ONCE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL, TRANSMISSION IS DISABLED AND WILL NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR. HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD TO HAVE TOWED. DEALER CALLED THE PART THE 'GEAR MOTOR ACTUATOR' AND THAT HE HAS DONE NUMEROUS REPLACEMENTS AND THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING.

STEREO SPEAKER SYSTEM KEEPS COMING LOOSE FROM, HARNESS, REPAIRED, BROKEN AGAIN. WAS TOLD BY DEALER RECALL ISSUE. BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND FACTORY INSTALLED FOG LIGHTS HAVE REPEATEDLY GONE OUT, COSTING SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPAIR. PAINT IS CHIPPING OFF VEHICLE IN SEVERAL PLACES, HAS BEEN SINCE APPROX 6 MONTHS AFTER BUYING CAR AND TOLD BY DEALER THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PAINT, ALTHOUGH CHIPPING IN STRAIGHT LINE

THE PROBLEM INITIALLY STARTED WITH AN ERRANT TIRE PRESSURE WARNING WHEN IN REALITY I HAD A FAULTY WHEEL SPEED SENSOR (RIGHT FRONT). THE TIRE WARNING LIGHT WOULD CLEAR WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF THEN BACK ON BUT THE PROBLEM WOULD PERSIST AND PROGRESSED TO THE ELECTRONIC STEERING DISABLING (NO STEERING), THE SPEED CONTROLS NOT FUNCTIONING (NO SPEEDOMETER OR CRUISE CONTROL), THE TRACTION CONTROL DISABLING (NO TRACTION CONTROL), AND MOST WORRISOME IS THAT THE BUILT IN KEYLESS IGNITION SAFETY SYSTEMS WERE DISABLED. THIS MEANT THAT THE KEYLESS IGNITION BUTTON (POSTIONED 2 INCHES FROM THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER!) WOULD AND DID TURN THE CAR OFF IF INADVERTATNLY BUMPED. I DOWN SHIFTED ON THE FREEWAY FROM 6TH TO 5TH AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND BUMPED THE BUTTON COMPLETELY SHUTTING OFF THE ENTIRE CAR. 65 MPH AND NO CONTROL IS HORRIBLY DANGEROUS. THE DESIGN IS INHERENTLY FLAWED IF A WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CAN DISABLE THE ENTIRE CAR AT FREEWAY SPEEDS.

I HAVE A HYUNDAI VELOSTER 2013, I NOTICED MY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH ON MONDAY BUT WENT OFF. TUESDAY MORNING WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT THE DRIVE WAY MY CAR GOT STUCK IN REVERSE. THE CAR THAT WAS COMING ALMOST HIT ME HE HAD TO RUN OFF THE ROAD. HE THEN GOT OUT THE CAR AND HELPED ME GET IT BACK IN TO PARK. IT TOOK US ABOUT 15 MINS TO GET IT. I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THEY DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO FIX IT HE TOLD ME TO GO HOME AND THEY WILL GIVE ME A CALL IF THEY GET A APT OPEN. I HAVE A 2013 VITAMIN C VELOSTER AND I RECENTLY LOOKED UNDER MY LICENSE PLATE IN THE REAR AND NOTICED A BIG HOLE IN MY BUMPER FROM MELTING, IT SEEMS TO KEEP GETTING WORSE SINCE LAST WEEK WHEN I NOTICED IT. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY AND SHOWED THE SERVICE GUYS AND AT THAT POINT MY BUMPER AND PLATE MOUNT HAD FUSED TOGETHER FROM THE HEAT. I FEAR THE BUMPER STARTING ON FIRE RIGHT NEXT TO THE GAS TANK. THEY TOOK 3.5 HOURS TO LOOK AT IT AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE BACK WANTS TO STEP OUT OF LINE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS, THIS IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE. ALSO WHEN THE VEHICLE HITS A PATCH OF SNOW, DURING THE TRANSITION ON TO THE SNOW AND OFF THE CAR FEELS LIKE THE ENDS WANT TO SWITCH PLACES. IF ONE REAR TIRE TRANSITIONS ONTO SNOW OR ICE THE ENTIRE REAR OF THE CAR WANTS TO TRAVEL THAT DIRECTION, IT ALSO DOES THIS WHEN CROSSING ASPHALT PATCHES. IT IS MORE PRONOUNCED ON ROADS WITH VERTICAL GROOVING IN THE CONCRETE. THERE HAVE BEEN TIME WHEN IN LIGHT SNOW CONDITIONS I HAVE HAD TO GO ABOUT 35-40 MPH JUST TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT AND IN MY LANE. BY DOING SO I BECAME A ROLLING ROADBLOCK, AS THE OTHER TRAFFIC DID NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS I DID. I DID GO THROUGH A BBB CASE WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT NEITHER TIME WERE THE ROAD CONDITIONS CONDUCIVE TO THIS ISSUE, AND PER HYUNDAI EVERYTHING IS SET TO FACTORY SPECS(WHICH I DO NOT DOUBT). THE 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER TURBO HAS A TORSION BEAM REAR SUSPENSION THAT WHEN COMBINED WITH THE FACTORY 18" WHEELS AND STOCK KUMHO SOLUS TIRES GIVES THE CAR VERY UNPREDICTABLE AND DANGEROUS HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS OVER BUMPS WHERE THE REAR OF THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS "STEPPING OUT." AFTER TALKING TO 5 HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS AND HAVING THEM PERFORM VARIOUS ALIGNMENT ATTEMPTS AND TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR ROAD FORCE BALANCING TO IMPROVE THE PROBLEM, IT WAS STILL NOT CORRECTED AND NEARLY RESULTED IN NUMEROUS CRASHES IN THE 1ST YEAR OFF OWNERSHIP. AFTER SO MANY ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE ISSUE AND NOT HAVING IT RESOLVED AND SEEING NUMEROUS OTHER REPORTS OF IT ON FORUMS AND OTHER REVIEW SITES, I AM CONVINCED THAT THERE IS A CONCERTED EFFORT TO HIDE THE PROBLEM AND HAVE MADE THE DIFFICULT DECISION TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. EVEN THE HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER WHO MOST RECENTLY DROVE MY CAR SAID "I FELT IT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT." THIS WAS AFTER THE FACTORY TECHNICIAN AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP FELT THE ISSUE AND SAID "IT IS A VERY LIGHT CAR SO IT WILL JUST DO THAT" AND WHEN I REPLIED THAT A SAME YEAR VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WITH THE SAME REAR SUSPENSION DESIGN DID NOTHING OF THE SORT AND EVEN ANOTHER MODEL IN THE HYUNDAI LINE (ELANTRA) DID NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, HE DIDN'T REPLY. MOST DANGEROUS OF ALL IS IF A REAR TIRE BECOMES DEFLATED AT ALL ON A SNOWY OR ICY SURFACE. IN MY SITUATION AN LEFT REAR TIRE WENT DOWN A FEW POUNDS AND THE CAR SWERVED MUCH MORE WILDLY THAN MOST OTHER CARS WOULD A LITTLE LOW ON AIR. WHEN I ENTERED THE CAR AND TURNED IT ON THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED . THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND I COULD PUT IT IN GEAR BUT THE STEERING WOULD NOT TURN. WHEN I WASH MY CAR I LIKE TO WIPE DOWN THE ENGINE AND THE INNER PART OF THE FRONT HOOD. AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, TRAVELING DOWN AN INTERCHANGE TO ANOTHER FREEWAY, I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. ONCE I COMPLETELY LET OFF THE GAS, I STARTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES. JUST AS I STARTED TO STEER INTO THE TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AND BRAKING ON ITS OWN, WITHOUT MY APPLICATION OF ANY PEDALS. THE WHEELS LOCKED UP WITHOUT ME APPLYING THE BRAKES. I WAS PUT INTO A FOUR WHEEL SLIDE WHERE I WAS ALMOST RAN INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE WHEELS THEN UNLOCKED PRIOR TO THE POSSIBLE IMPACT AND THE VEHICLE STARTED ACCELERATING AND BRAKING AGAIN ON ITS OWN. DURING THIS ENTIRE TIME, MY STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL LOCKED UP. I WAS ABLE TO PUT MY CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR HEADED TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL LOCKED UP WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. THE CONVULSIONS (RANDOM BRAKING AND ACCELERATING) STOPPED ONCE I PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. WITH THE CAR STILL UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED AND TRAVELING ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY, I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. I DID BRING IT TO THE DEALER AND AFTER HAVING FOR OVER 3 DAYS ONLY A OIL CHANGE HAD BEEN DONE. I ASKED TO PICK UP FOR A APPT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ONLY ILLUMINATED APPROXIMATELY 65-70 FEET AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO HAVE A CLEAR VIEW OF THE ROADWAY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS A SOLID BLACK HORIZON THAT CAME FROM THE HEADLIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
