Infiniti G35 — Recalls, Reliability, Specs & VIN Decoder

Was maneuvering a gentle right hand curve on a 4 lane city street. The car just simply died. Without the engine running the power steering was nullified and the vehicle wanted to continue in a straight line. Approximately 200 ft. Ahead there was an area with a driveway belonging to the water dept. Which i was able to wrestle the vehicle onto, out of traffic. The car would not restart and aaa was called. It was towed to the garage where the mechanic informed me the cam position sensor was faulty and the vehicle was repaired with a new one. About a year later the same thing occurred again as i was turning a corner. Without power steering or brakes i collided with the vehicle waiting at the light. Fortunately, my speed was 10 to 15 mph and damage to both vehicles was minimal. The cam position sensor was again, the culprit. Last wed. 4/29/15, there was another occurrence then again today 5/3/15, yet another. With the last two, the car was quickly put in neutral and restarted. Research revealed malfunctions with both the cam position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor were cause for a recall with infiniti but it seems everyone that had submitted a thread concerning the problem reported the vin number on their vehicle was not on the "list" that qualified for any action from the manufacturer. What??? If this life threatening occurrence is happening to literally dozens of infiniti owners, why is there a qualifying list??? *tr

The charger port had some sort of malfunction and my car was burned to the frame. It was parked in my drive way and had been since 8:00 p.m police officers where coming in my front door at around 2:00 a.m. My car was engulfed in flames.

My slip light and vct light has came on in my 2003 infiniti g35 and also the ebrake light and non of them will go offf. I recently hydro planed in the rain due not being able to turn my traction control on abs did nothing to stop my car from loosing traction this would never of happened if my car did not have these problems. Further looking into it they have had made a tsb talking about how the abs and anti wheel lock may malfunction. I was in a 5 car pile up and almost died. If my traction control was able to be turned on witch it wouldn't let me i would not of hydro planed my whole back end just swung forward out of nowhere people though someone in my car pulled my ebrake the way the back end just swung forward. Both the slip light and the vct light remained on along with my ebrake light. I drive my car like a baby and to barley push the gas should not result in my back end swinging forward resulting in completely wreching my car along with 4 other drivers. I feel infiniti is definitely reliable and should of recalled these parts due to putting people in danger instead of making it a tsb like its not a big deal. I am also not the only one iv found a few people that crashed there car due to rainy wether and the traction control not wanting to turn on. I was on the freeway doing about 60 to 65. If i new infiniti had so many problems i would not of purchased one 77 bulletins and after reading about all the problems the 2003 had and all the recalled parts i would not of purchased it and put my life at risk. I feel infiniti should be reliable it's commen sense to know that first hand not fixing those problems would lead to serious injuries and i'm not the only one. Let me know what you think i will be emailing infiniti to. It may not be a recalled part but it' put me and everyone else on the freeway at risk and totaled my car. I was at work when they said the light started to blink and then the alarm started to go off when the security came by around it was smoking and on fire it was coming from the hood. The police and fire station said they think it was a electric problems. I really don't know what i should do now. *tr

The radio will turn off by itself and turn back on a few seconds later. All of the buttons in the center console become inoperable. The a/c controls also become inoperable and turns on by itself. It just doesn't turn on though, it turns on 90 degrees and starts blasting out. This is a safely issue because as a driver we never know when this air is just going to start blasting out at us like fire. If infiniti is smart enough to recall the sedan, they should do the same thing with the coupes. It is clearly a common problem among the '03-'04 models. If they want to keep their reputable name they will do what is right. *tr

2003 infiniti g-35 blown up in driveway and house caught fire. *bf the fire department determined the fire originated inside of the trunk where the trunk light bulb became so hot that the light bulb exploded, the hot particles from the light bulb caught the trunk and the contents in the trunk on fire. The consumer stated she forgot to close the trunk securely. Before the fire, the consumer stated she had electrical problems with the window and sunroof. *jb

While the vehicle was parked a fire started in the rear brake compartment. *ak the lights on dashboard were intermittent. The rear light and speaker area had a possible electrical short per dispatcher. *sc *jb

Purchased car, used, 6/2011. Was told it was a owner buy back due to it not starting. Finance manager guaranteed problem had been fixed. In september 2011 car started hesitating to start-requiring me to let my foot off brake/clutch. Instrument panel would illuminate but car would not start. It could take up to 6 times of the brake/clutch easement for car to start. On 11/19/11 i brought car in to atlantic infiniti to get another key made and to inform them radio would not hold a station (fade) and would not pick up stations. I returned 1/5/12 due to radio still not functioning. I also informed them of the brake/clutch issue. Dealership could not find anything wrong with radio but d a part in the clutch was replaced. Radio continued to function improperly. 1/27/12 car would not start. Headlights would not come on, unable to unlock trunk and intelligent key would not work. Car towed to orlando infiniti. My car was at dealership till 2/6/12. Dealership addressed radio and replaced antenna amphifier & replaced clutch pedal position. Days later radio started malfunctioning again. 2/23/11 car would not start. As before, no lights, could not unlock car nor trunk. Aaa called & they could not start car. Car was jump started & diagnostic test performed. Nothing was found. Car driven home and it was towed to orlando infiniti the next day. As of today, 3/6/12, car still at dealership and they can not find anything wrong. I believe the electrical system is malfunctioning, particularly the ground. I have asked infiniti to check this but they have not. I no longer trust this car and infiniti is not being proactive. They are waiting for my car to not start to research issue. Their statement to me "we go out everyday and start it". I have put in several calls to infiniti usa and have not received a return call. *tr

Temperature gauge shows car as running hot even after having thermostat replaced. Car continuously runs hot with no resolution from Infiniti mechanics.

My car has been stalling while driving at low speed. Several warning lights come up (check engine light, slip light, battery light) and then the engine shuts down completely. Upon placing the car in park, i am able to re-start it. This is a major safety issue. I believe my car is part of recall number 03v455000 - engine and engine cooling. However, my vin is not part of the recall, but i am experiencing the same issues associated with this recall. This needs to be re-addressed. I have children, and i am worried that this issue can cause an accident, especially while i am driving on the freeway. I have seen various similar complaints related to this issue with infiniti.

Runaway acceleration. Three times now in the last two weeks the RPMs went to maximum redline without my foot on the accelerator pedal. Fortunately all occurred when I was at very slow speed and either in a driveway or a parking lot. Each time I immediately put the transmission to neutral and shut off the engine. For the first occurrence, Restarting the engine all went back to normal. But for the second instance, two weeks later on restart the engine again instantly went to maximum RPM (deep redline). On a second restart, with additional delay before attempting a restart, the problem cleared. I took the car to a mechanic and they said no error diagnostics were recorded. On test drive he said he noticed some brief unexpected surges. He said for liability reasons no way he would work on the car. No warnings, no instrument indications, car does not seem to "know" throttle is at max redline.

The car idles when taking off even after warming it up... While cars are passing me by. It acts like it wants to cut off while in traffic. It was raining on the passenger side. I can't even filled the car up with a full tank of gas. Only had the car for 3 weeks and the service engine soon light come on. Took it back multiple times and still not fixed

In my car, my radiator failed. That then made the transmission fluid and the coolant mix. My fluid in my radiator and transmission are like slime in there. My car doesn't function like it should.

My car has started stalling while driving, while driving! I have gone to the dealer to have issue fixed, once i get it fixed it happens again, and then the dealer says it might be something else. I have a small child and its terrifying knowing that if i'm on the highway my car will stall or anywhere for that matter. It's been happening for weeks, started at very low speeds and as of yesterday the engine shut off, no steering while going at a higher speed, i could have easily been in a wreck, or even killed someone walking. It's unsafe! There are many forums online regarding this issue with infiniti vehicles and they don't care. Lawsuit waiting to happen.

While driving at approximately 75 mph driver was changing lanes and the abs system locked up, causing the vehicle to spin and hit the center divider and flip over several times. The two passengers and the driver were killed . *ak

I was driving my 2008 infiniti g35 through a heavy rainstorm at 11:30 am, going east on glade rd., boca raton, fl., in the middle lane at approximately 35 mph, when a car in the left lane of this three lane rd., cut me off. I hit the brakes hard and my brakes completely locked up, putting me into a skid onto the right swale and my car, skidding violently, smashed into a tree. Although the car hit the tree almost head-on, only the left front side air bag went off. The steering wheel bag never went off. I was wearing my seat belt, and the my chest was smashed against the air bag straps and left me with severe welts and terrible pain for over two months. My right tibia and fibula were broken and displaced. Two surgeries and three months in a cast and bed-ridden, i am finally doing much better. I notified nissan that the front air-bag and the anti-lock braking system never activated. They did a cursory investigation and said nothing went wrong. I know that's not true. I never once felt any pulsing from the brakes after my application, and the non-working steering wheel air bag speaks for itself. *tr

I was traveling at 35 mph and i was hit by another car in the driver side door and i slipped straight about 100 feet and hit a light pole none of my airbags deployed and my foot was on the brake the whole time and it seemed the bakes did not perform as expected. *nm

While driving our 2004 infinity g35 on the fwy going about 40 mph (the ground was wet) we felt the track control started to shift side to side, a truck cut in fron us us, which made my husband put on brakes, as he putted on brakes, the driver side front brake locked, which caused for the card to turn sideways and hit the center divider full speed. The brakes after they locked, never stopped the car, the only thing that stopped us was the center divider. The airbags never pop, as we hit the wall going 40 miles per hours. I have taken the car to the dealer recently and had the brakes changed (2 times in 11 months) and the last tme i tood the car i informed the dealer that the brakes felt hard, and they were hard to stop they stated that the brakes will get better with use, and that's how it usually felt after the brakes were changed. The car did not drive the same, the traction was not working, the brakes locked and to top it all the bags did not deployed after impact.*ak

The foot brake depresses lower than the accelerator thus causing the motor to accelerate when applying the break. When breaking in an emergency, the side of my shoe caught the accelerator causing the motor to rev up and pushed our car into the vehicle infront of us. Fortunately, we were going slow enough by this time and only the front bumper was damaged. No injuries incurred. *tr

Lock actuators on passenger side have NEVER worked, fuel pump stops working when filling up tank even though not nearly full (have to repush the pump in several times - sometimes it doesn’t let me fill up tank totally because it thinks it’s full), right headlights fog up and can't be polished, light bulbs went out. Cruise control NEVER worked, a/c stopped working at 77,000 miles, window motor on both doors broke before 75,000 miles

Third light failed at approx 62800 miles 5/24/2013 .this is a well documented issue with this vehicle, causing an unsafe condition due to improper warning to following vehicles. This is a very costly repair and should be covered by a recall. To date infiniti has done nothing to correct.

I recently bought a 2004 infinity g35x for my daughter. It was disclosed at purchase that the 3rd brake light was out but i figured that was not a dealbreaker, i would get the light fixed easily. Well, i contacted our local infinity dealer and was quoted $480 to replace a 6 led board!! What?? After doing research online i discovered via infinity car forums (g35driver.com, x.infinitihelp.com, nicoforums.com) that this is an extremely common issue with these vehicles. The oem board is known to be a defective design. This is a federally mandated safety issue! Infinity should be made to recall and repair these bad brake lights. It is the law that these lights be there and working. I sincerely hope someone at your branch will take notice of this issue and force the manufacturer to make it right. *tr

I'm the second owner this particular vehicle, and although i did not notice the problem sooner, the 3rd light on my 2004 g35 does not work (my car does not have the spoiler). What i did was purchase a used 3rd light from a salvage yard....and it did work (briefly), now it's not working.....so i'm back to square one. I thought that it was unusual, so i googled the issue and much to surprise came up with many hits of owners of this vehicle with the same issue.......since reading the issue others have experienced with the 3rd light not functioning i have noticed this particular vehicles 3rd light issue on other g35 on the road, more than likely the owners have not noticed the light not operating.........the whole purpose of the 3rd light is to be seen by others driving behind you.......it's an accident waiting to happen, i hope the nhtsa and infiniti takes steps to correct this problem. *tr

I noticed my 3rd brake light was no longer working. I have noticed other infiniti g35 coupes with non- functioning 3rd brake lights. I've been told this is a common problem that i believe should be addressed by a re-call. It is an expensive part and labor charge to repair. Please induce infiniti to replace these lights at no charge to the customer. Thank you. *tr

3rd brake light does not work in warm weather, this is a safety hazard. There are many other vehicles affected and there should be a recall on this issue. *tr

The third brake light on the rear deck has failed for no apparent reason. The car will not pass inspection. They want several hundred dollars to replace the entire unit. I have researched online and found this is a voluminous problem for this model year. It was recalled and addressed by infiniti for the 2003 model year g and it is still a problem for the 2004 year. This needs to be recalled and fixed accordingly at the manufacturer cost. All these owners are not having the same failing issues without cause. I own two 2004 infiniti g35 sedans. I used to love both of them. This one has problems with the brake light and now the airbag light is mysteriously blinking for no reason! The other one has had issues for years with being able to put gas in and i have had problems at the gas station trying to fill the car! Ridiculous! If infiniti doesn't do something ... I'll be switching makers. This one listed also has fuel presure regulator/damper failures ... While my other '04 g (with over 200,000 miles on it) has none. Explain that. I live the real ... Between two of the same model year. Fix the problems infiniti! *tr

Car fire.. My car caught fire while in my office parking lot. I noticed a buzzing noise in my door panel when i rolled my window up. This may be coincidental , 15 minutes later while inside my office i notice my car in flames. The car is a total loss. I had never received any recalls for my car so something is terribly wrong. I was not injured thank god. The fire dep. Said this was the 2nd infinity in 2 weeks they have put out fire on. *jb

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they performed an oil consumption test which concluded that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the contact to have further testing done before replacing the engine. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The current mileage was 87,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Vehicle would randomly stall out at 55 mph+ and control of power steering is lost (battery light & vdc light would come on dash), no control of car. Many complaints on same issue. *tr

Car was jerking while driving. I went to the dealer, was told that a radiator leaked to the transmission, and ruined it. Dealer flashed transmission, but later i had "check engine" warning. I went back, dealer told me that this is because of a bad transmission. This is not safe to drive a car in this condition. I still have a power train warranty, but nissan refuses to repair transmission, because, they say, transmission problem was a secondary one, and the primary was a radiator. Nissan twice refused to repair under warranty. *tr

I recently purchased this car from a nissan dealership and it happened on the first and second day owning it. The first day happened when i pulled into the gas station taxing to the gas pump and all the sudden, the steering wheel started to get harden. I looked at the rpm gauge and it was down to zero while i was in "d" mode. So shifted to park and restart the engine, then it works again. The second incident happened when i was at a stop sign turning right. Immediately after releasing the brake pedal, i turned the steering wheel and the engine stalled; therefore, the steering wheel was harden. Then i shift back to park and restart again. I'm not sure if this is common to any g35x but this is a safety issue. I do not want to image myself going into a round-about and the car stalls while other car coming toward me. He took the vehicle to the dealer from where it was purchased and had them inspect it; however, they were unable to identify the cause of the failure. New vehicle driven only 4k miles when noises started emanating from the engine compartment anytime rpms exceeded 4000. Dealer diagnosed problem as a burned out transmission requiring replacement. Had the transmission seized up while driving, it could have led to a very dangerous situation. *tr

My problem is with the dash, where the heating controls and the radio controls are. When i am driving, the heater and radio controls just cut out. It gets very dangerous when it is raining, because the windows will fog up, and in the winter it gets very cold. ....updated 04/02/15 *bf

While driving, ac came on full blast and i could not control it. None of the buttons worked on the unit at all. I have read similar complaints and their fix is the controller board or aftermarket radio system. I have an aftermarket radio/gps unit installed, but it still have zero control over ac unit. No problem with radio ever. All of this is intermittently. Sometimes i can control it, but it want last long. Don't know what will happen this winter, since i have only owned the car for 5 months. My driver and passenger vehicle window's motor has continuously burned out or chooses not to work at times. I have re-placed the window motor several, yet it still does not roll up or down all the time. I have to hit the area where the motor is located on the door in order to get it to start moving, sometimes i will be there for hours trying to roll up my window when i leave the car. There has been a few incidents where i close my driver door with and with out a heavy force and the motor will roll my window down half way. I have concluded that the window's motor must be defective and hopes to write a complaint so that infinity motors can recall this issue and fix it, my window has rolled down during rainy season, and it is quite uncomfortable to drive in wet leather seats. *tr

2004 infiniti g35 coupe: electrical issue in center of vehicle, the air vents, heat, defrost will not operate and at times come on automatically including cold air and causing film on the dash making it incredibly difficult to see. Was told by infiniti dealer this exists in over 90% of models this year and type and will be $5,000 to fix. Defogger and defrost vents will not work by manually pressing buttons. *tr

I have a 2004 infiniti g35 sedan. My audio failed and a/c stuck . . . The same problem they voluntarily repaired in 2003. (service bulletin #03007a and nhtsa item #10001253) it is caused by a failure of the audio finisher circuit board. Because of this, i am unable to turn on the window defroster and have difficulty seeing through the windshield when there is condensation due to certain weather conditions. When i brought my car to the dealership in roseville where i bought it, they said they would check on it but knowing there was only 10 days until my extended warranty was up, they never followed up. I have seen many 2004 owners on line with the same problem but nissan/infiniti don't seem to care. This is definitely a safety issue as my windshield fogs up when i drive to work, which is always early since i am a nurse and af reservist. *tr

The window motors and door lock actuators keep failing and have to be replaced, the laser red paint keeps chipping, the brakes make a strange noise every so often, and the air from the air conditioning vents is usually warm as other consumers are reporting. Infiniti refuses to resolve any problems with the actuators or window motors, although their mechanics have stated to me several times that there is a high number of customer complaints about the same issues with their vehicles. *tr

Since i bought my g35 coupe, i've been having problems with my driver side window, currently stopped working, it wouldn't go down. It would be my 4th time i replaced window motor, is not cheap. Out of nowhere my window go down when is closed, water gets in when raining. Then when finally i get to close the window, it would not go down. Infiniti needs to make this problem an official recall and replace all the window motors. I love my car, i don't know what else to do. I cannot afford paying for new window motor. Control panel totally inoperable. Ac blows at highest setting, unable to change any settings, unable to use defroster. Recall doesn't include my vin although it has the same problem as those recalled. *tr

Our 2003 g-35 infinity was struck on the right front passenger side of the vehicle at or just behind the bumper. The air bag did not deploy. The car that struck our vehicle ran through a red light, did not slow on a road that had a speed limit of 35 mph (at least). The car was totaled. *jb

I was driving my 2008 infiniti g35 through a heavy rainstorm at 11:30 am, going east on glade rd., boca raton, fl., in the middle lane at approximately 35 mph, when a car in the left lane of this three lane rd., cut me off. I hit the brakes hard and my brakes completely locked up, putting me into a skid onto the right swale and my car, skidding violently, smashed into a tree. Although the car hit the tree almost head-on, only the left front side air bag went off. The steering wheel bag never went off. I was wearing my seat belt, and the my chest was smashed against the air bag straps and left me with severe welts and terrible pain for over two months. My right tibia and fibula were broken and displaced. Two surgeries and three months in a cast and bed-ridden, i am finally doing much better. I notified nissan that the front air-bag and the anti-lock braking system never activated. They did a cursory investigation and said nothing went wrong. I know that's not true. I never once felt any pulsing from the brakes after my application, and the non-working steering wheel air bag speaks for itself. *tr

Car accelerated after coming to a standstill in parking bay ran over curb hit a tree. And went down an embankment. The passenger airbag deployed but the drivers side airbag did not. *tr

On august 30, 2007, i was stopped at a red light in my 2004 infiniti g35x and was struck from behind while stationary with my foot on the brake. The vehicle that struck me was traveling at a high rate of speed estimated to be in excess of 40mph. The impact crushed my rear bumper and trunk and drove my vehicle into the rear of the suv stopped in front of me, crushing my front end and inducing deployment of the passenger air bag although there was no one occupying the passenger seat. However, the driver's side air bag did not deploy in this collision, and while the seat belt restrained me, my arm hit the steering wheel, and i suffered musculoskeletal injuries in this accident. The car has been deemed a total loss. Both the insurance appraiser and i have questioned whether a defect prevented the driver's side airbag from deploying. I was traveling at 35 mph and i was hit by another car in the driver side door and i slipped straight about 100 feet and hit a light pole none of my airbags deployed and my foot was on the brake the whole time and it seemed the bakes did not perform as expected. *nm

While driving our 2004 infinity g35 on the fwy going about 40 mph (the ground was wet) we felt the track control started to shift side to side, a truck cut in fron us us, which made my husband put on brakes, as he putted on brakes, the driver side front brake locked, which caused for the card to turn sideways and hit the center divider full speed. The brakes after they locked, never stopped the car, the only thing that stopped us was the center divider. The airbags never pop, as we hit the wall going 40 miles per hours. I have taken the car to the dealer recently and had the brakes changed (2 times in 11 months) and the last tme i tood the car i informed the dealer that the brakes felt hard, and they were hard to stop they stated that the brakes will get better with use, and that's how it usually felt after the brakes were changed. The car did not drive the same, the traction was not working, the brakes locked and to top it all the bags did not deployed after impact.*ak

Lost control of car on ice going 55, car went airborne 70 feet came down hit a truck, car was totaled. Passenger airbag went off but drivers did not deploy, suffered a concussion, hit head on steering wheel.

The driver was taken to the hospital via ambulance for rib injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an insurance lot. The insurance company stated to the contact that the front driver side air bag should have deployed upon impact. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and the current mileages were unknown.

My wife was driving her 2003 infinite g35 in traffic when events occured that caused her to crash into the back of a ford f350. She was wearing her seat belt but the drivers side airbag did not deploy. But the passager side airbag did. She sustained injuires to her head and chest. Car appears to be totaled, but is being accessed for amount of damages at this time.

The foot brake depresses lower than the accelerator thus causing the motor to accelerate when applying the break. When breaking in an emergency, the side of my shoe caught the accelerator causing the motor to rev up and pushed our car into the vehicle infront of us. Fortunately, we were going slow enough by this time and only the front bumper was damaged. No injuries incurred. *tr

2008 infiniti g35 sedan, bought new from dealer july 2008, had warped brake rotors about a year ago, took to dealer, they replaced a part that had a recall or had a warranty on, that they said had more air spaces in it to allow the metal to cool better, and ground down the rotors. I have warped rotors again at only 46,000 miles. I believe the metal in the stock rotors is faulty or bad engineering design. Please inspect. I should not have warped rotors for a second time at only 46,000 miles and i use my transmission a lot to slow down rather than the brakes after the first warping occurred. I see another complaint on this site by a different owner of the same make and model car with the same complaint of warped rotors at low mileage. *tr

I purchased a 2008 infiniti g35 sedan. It is the journey package with the optional 18-inch wheels. My rotors are not safe. I only have 28,000 miles on my car and my rotors have already warped. I have read on many forums that this is a common issue with infiniti g35s and i believe the government should look into this. I am paying a premium for this car and should not have rotors warping on me before the warranty is up. Also, infiniti does not cover the charges with warping rotors. This is putting great stress on me because i have to pay for something that could have been replaced for free. *tr

2004 infiniti g35x. Consumer states problem with vehicle brakes *tgw the consumer also stated the hood hinge was corroded, there were evop issues, and a fuel valve leak which caused difficulty in not being able to re-fuel the vehicle to its capacity.
