2019 Q50

Unintended acceleration. Pulling into a parking space in a shopping center parking lot, after going over a speed bump and making a left hand turn into the spot the car accelerated and would not stop. Pushing on the brakes did not work. Car has a system to prevent crashing in to an object in front of the car but that did not work. The car struck a pole in the parking lot doing significant damage to the right front of the car.

2018 Q50

The car caught fire under the hood and completely burned up in the parking lot as i was exiting the vehicle updated 12/4/18*jb

2019 Q50

own a 2019 Infiniti Q50 3.0t Sport with approximately 80,000 miles. The vehicle began experiencing engine knocking/ticking noises, rough idle, hesitation under acceleration, shaking, and intermittent misfire symptoms. The issue continued even after replacing spark plugs and ignition components. The dealership/mechanic reported possible internal engine damage and metal shavings in the oil, indicating potential failure of internal engine components. The vehicle has been regularly maintained with oil changes completed on schedule. This appears to be a widespread issue affecting many Infiniti and Nissan vehicles equipped with the VR30 3.0 twin-turbo engine. Numerous owners online report similar symptoms including engine knocking, turbo failure, metal contamination, loss of power, and premature engine failure at relatively low mileage. The issue creates a serious safety concern because the vehicle can lose power, hesitate during acceleration, or potentially fail while driving in traffic or on highways. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate repeated engine failures involving the VR30 engine platform used in Infiniti Q50/Q60 and related vehicles.”

2019 Q50

While operating the vehicle under normal driving conditions, the engine experienced a significant loss of power and reduced acceleration. The issue is believed to be related to turbocharger failure within the engine system. The loss of power created a safety concern, particularly when attempting to merge into traffic and maintain highway speeds. The vehicle did not respond as expected when acceleration was needed, which could increase the risk of an accident in certain driving situations. The problem has been confirmed by a dealership service department, and the vehicle is currently available for inspection. The diagnosis indicates that the turbochargers require replacement. Prior to the failure, there were limited warning signs. Any warning indicators were either minimal or appeared shortly before the issue became noticeable. The failure occurred at approximately 107,000 miles. Based on publicly available information, similar failures have been reported on this vehicle model, suggesting a possible pattern related to the turbocharger system.

2019 Q50

The twin turbo failure is a known issue with Infiniti. I took my vehicle to the dealership and it was diagnosed with having a passenger side turbo failure. I have 145K miles on my vehicle. It is outside of the warranty period and very expensive to repair. Infiniti knows there is a problem regarding turbo failure in the Infiniti Q50 and the consumer is forced to deal with expensive repairs $7K for one turbo per the dealership. Had I been made aware of there being a problem, I would not have purchased an Infiniti.

2019 Q50

Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I began experiencing serious performance issues. While driving, the vehicle suddenly lost power, would not accelerate properly, and warning lights appeared on the dashboard. The vehicle eventually shut off while in operation. The vehicle was inspected by a dealership, which initially stated there were no issues. However, the problem continued and worsened. The vehicle was then inspected by an authorized Infiniti dealership, where technicians identified a consistent knocking noise coming from the engine. The dealership indicated that the noise is consistent with internal engine damage and recommended further inspection and likely engine replacement. The issue developed very shortly after purchase, and there were no prior indications that the vehicle had been damaged or misused. The sudden loss of power and engine failure created a potential safety hazard, especially while driving in traffic, as the vehicle was unable to accelerate and could have led to a dangerous situation. The vehicle is currently available for inspection, and the issue has been confirmed by a certified dealership. The cause of the failure is currently under further evaluation.

2019 Q50

While driving, my vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. After restarting, the vehicle would not accelerate over 40 miles per hour. I had the vehicle inspected by the dealership, and they informed me that the engine oil filter contained metal debris. The dealership explained that the presence of metallic particles in the filter could indicate internal engine wear or damage, and they recommended a full engine replacement at a cost of approximately $20,000. At this time, I have not been shown the filter or the debris, but I was advised that this condition may require further diagnosis and possible engine repair or replacement.

2019 Q50

The contact owns a 2019 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated, with an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off; however, while attempting to restart the vehicle, the abnormal knocking sound persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine and turbocharger failure. The contact was informed that the engine and the turbochargers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,500.

2019 Q50

The contact owns a 2019 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine misfired, and the contact became aware of smoke coming from the engine compartment. The check engine and battery warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked and turned off, there was coolant leaking underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing belt had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,500.

2019 Q50

Rm collision forged my signature to cash out 20'000$ and did not fix my car. My car was stolen june 15, 2019

2019 Q50

Vehicle was purchased December 2021 upon purchasing the vehicle I noticed the horn was not functioning, vehicle was taken back to dealership, they corrected the issue, then months later horn isn't functioning at all. Nor is Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assistance, Parking Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Warning functioning on car. The automatic rain sensor isn't working at all.

2019 Q50

I have 3 issues with the car. The braking issue presented itself last in time but is most important relative to safety. Around mid January 2022, my car, while I was driving, and without any notice, began to decelerate/brake for no reason. My car is equipped with front driver assist but there were no cars, hazards, in front of me. It was a clear, dry day and the car was warm. It was momentary and fortunately no one was behind me. The car beeped, but there was no other warning. The second time this same event happened, however, the accelerator pushed back against my foot. Again, no one was in front of me and it was a clear, dry day. The third time this happened, the car beeped and what I know now is the cruise control indicator, appeared on the display. I did not touch the cruise control to activate. The other two issues were that both display screens were blacking out and rebooting while driving, for no apparent reason. The other issue is with the Sirius XM satellite, which is not functioning properly. I have informed Sirius XM of this issue as well. Given all of these issues, possibly all electrical, I contacted my local Infiniti dealer to assess, with special concern for the random braking issue. The car was assessed and they could not duplicate any problems. They mentioned that perhaps if they had more time they may be able to duplicate the problems. The following Monday, I took the car to the dealership and left it overnight for assessment. I was called the next day and advised that they could not duplicate the issues. The dealership returned the car without making any repairs, diagnoses, or being to able to duplicate problems. Since the car has been returned to me, it has continued to have problems. The braking issue has happened twice since, with one time involving the accelerator pushing back. The screen has blacked out and gone into parking mode, while I was driving. I have contacted Infiniti corporate to advise of problems.

2019 Q50

Driving on interstate at 70 mph with active cruise engaged. The instrumentation all went black, cruise control released but engine continued running and i used manual acceleration in order to maintain speed in the flow of traffic. After approximately 30 seconds the system re booted. Instrumentation came back on and i reset active cruise control and all appeared ok. After a few days we were returning home and as described earlier the same event occurred on the interstate. I took the car to the dealer, described the incident, thy reported they had seen that before, checked the computer and saw no codes and said it must have been a system reboot.

2019 Q50

I originally owned this q50 2018 vin [xxx] and infiniti replaced it with the one i had listed. The fact is i own neither of them any longer but feeli should report it because it is a safety issue which infiniti refused to deal with. The blind spot light did not work on either car . Between 10 am and 8 pm you could not see the light and audible signal you could barely hear. I am reporting this problem in the hopes of saving lives. It was a safety issue it cost me $$ the second replacement but never felt comfortable in the car . Yet infiniti could care less though the dealer was very helpful information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt *tr

2019 Q50

Car started no dash lights, no navigation lighting, and no power steering. I was able drive car but extremely difficult to turn steering wheel. New car approx. 580 miles had car towed to pepe infinity from my driveway 1/31/2019 car returned 2/5/2019 only problem detected was battery low. I am 71 taking care of 3 grand children afraid of reoccurring power steering malfunction.

2018 Q50

I am submitting this complaint regarding a safety defect in my 2018 Infiniti Q50, which was manufactured prior to May 1, 2018. Despite matching the make, model, and production timeframe associated with an existing Infiniti recall for backup camera failures, my specific vehicle is not included in the recall population. The backup camera in my vehicle intermittently fails to display an image or presents a blank or distorted screen when the vehicle is placed in reverse. This defect significantly impairs rear visibility and increases the risk of a collision, particularly in situations involving pedestrians, children, or obstacles that may not be visible through mirrors alone. The backup camera is a critical safety feature, and its failure directly compromises safe vehicle operation. The exclusion of my vehicle from the recall is concerning, given that it shares the same model year, platform, and manufacturing period as those already identified as defective. This suggests that the defect may be more widespread than currently acknowledged. A malfunctioning backup camera is not a minor inconvenience as it creates a clear and preventable safety hazard. I urge the NHTSA to review this issue and consider expanding the scope of the existing recall to include all affected 2018 Infiniti Q50 vehicles, including those manufactured before May 1, 2018, that are currently excluded. Additionally, I encourage further investigation into the consistency and reliability of the backup camera systems in this model line. This complaint is submitted not only to address my individual vehicle but also to contribute to a broader understanding of a potential safety defect that may affect other drivers. I believe that multiple reports of similar issues will help prompt appropriate action to ensure public safety. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

2018 Q50

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2018 Infiniti Q50. It was discovered that there were three separate mileage discrepancies. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 50,370; however, at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage had been rolled back from 54,000 to 28,630 miles. The mileage before the vehicle was purchased was 47,650.

2018 Q50

The airbag passenger light is illuminated causing air bag system to remain off until resolve. The vehicle was taken in for inspection and dealer confirmed diagnostic results found Occupant sensor malfunctioning. Under warranty, the sensor was covered, but after installation the system also found that wasn’t the only thing to replace. It’s a handful of sensors and harness that is integrated within the seat frame with the ONLY solution to replace the entire chair/seat frame. This item does not fall under warranty. My concern is the safety of my family riding in the vehicle. This issue was happening to 2016 and 2017 models that were recalled for the same issue. Unfortunately this vehicle may have been manufactured in 2017, but holds the 2018 year on paper found through carmax.

2018 Q50

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 infiniti q50. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated and after which the vehicle started to hesitate. The vehicle has been taken to local dealer (lake norman infiniti located at 20435 chartwell center dr, cornelius, nc 28031) on five different occasion. The contact stated that the dealer replaced the airbag fuse, airbag harness and 2 additional unknown repairs. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 28,706.

2023 Q50

Vehicle was parked in my driveway with the engine running for about 5-10 minutes while I was going into the house to turn off my alarm, then return to take out 2 of my elderly dogs; & finally to take out my other dogs. I then returned to the car, opened the driver's side front door & reached in to push the "stop" button on the dash. As soon as I did, the vehicle immediately went into reverse & pulled me down the driveway by the open door. The vehicle continued down the driveway & crossed the street, hitting a fire hydrant in my neighbor's yard across the street. I never physically got into the vehicle to do the steps required to put the vehicle into reverse, i.e. putting my foot on the brake & depressing the transmission shift button.

While driving vehicle if you suddenly stop vehicle would stop, however when applying pressure to gas pedal vehicle would not move, if foot is left on pedal car would jerk and then proceed forward. Unlike other vehicle after breaking hard vehicle would move without hesitation.

2019 Q50

While vehicle is in “D” drive move the car would jerk likes its trying to shift/switch gears and jerk hard. It sounds like the issue would involve the transmission. Another occasion happened when I came to a complete stop, & then pressed on the gas, and the car jerks again then started to accelerate.

2019 Q50

The car sometimes turning - changing lanes - just various times the rear end will slide around - or skid. Just does it various times - does not matter if the road is wet or not. Infiniti Service did not find an issue - but there is definitely an issue. No certain time so hard to pinpoint what is causing it.

Filing this complaint regarding a safety-related defect involving the turbocharger system on my 2018 INFINITI Q50. The vehicle has approximately 46,000 miles and is 8 years old. INFINITI/Nissan has acknowledged through its own Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that turbocharger failure on 2016–2018 Q50 3.0T vehicles is a known defect. Nissan’s documentation identifies issues such as turbo oil seal leaks, reduced engine power, smoke, and potential catastrophic engine failure, and provides an extended warranty of up to 10 years or 120,000 miles due to the safety risks associated with sudden power loss. My vehicle experienced turbocharger failure consistent with these known defects, resulting in loss of engine power, which presents a serious safety hazard, particularly during highway driving, merging, or intersections. Sudden loss of propulsion increases crash risk and endangers vehicle occupants and others on the road. In some cases, turbo failure can occur with little or no warning, further increasing risk. The failure was confirmed by INFINITI/Nissan service departments, and the vehicle remains available for inspection. CarMax insurance approved the engine repair, acknowledging mechanical failure; however, they declined to approve turbocharger repair specifically because INFINITI has issued a known TSB and extended warranty covering turbo failure, deferring responsibility to the manufacturer. Despite the vehicle being within the extended warranty limits, Nissan denied coverage, claiming the vehicle has a “branded title.” This claim is unsupported by VIN reports, the loan originator, and CarMax’s own title search prior to leasing all confirm the title is not branded. Nissan has provided no documentation supporting its assertion. Nissan N.A. reviewed and closed the matter despite the known safety defect and lack of evidence for the title claim. Represents a safety-related defect and improper denial of a manufacturer-recognized safety remedy, warranting NHTSA review.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,200.

Airbag light turn on, on my dashboard, I checked it with a professional OBD2 scanner and shows a code which indicates a fault in the Occupant Detection System (ODS), which the scanner says it is very common for my vehicle. This puts my passengers at risk due to an airbag system fault. My vehicle has not been in an accident, nor has my passenger seat been messed with. I have spoken to other individuals with the same vehicle, also checked the forums for my specific vehicle and almost all of them have the same issue with the ODS, with no recalls or warranty resolution from the dealership. This is a common issue. It is concerning because there is a pattern of the ODS being faulty by no fault of our own but no resolution or recall.

The Air bag system on a 2018 Infiniti Q50 AWD is malfunctioning. I’d like to get it checked out especially if this could be a tentative recall issue for myself and other owners of the same vehicle. I feel very unsafe for my family and I because the system was never tampered with, yet the light used to go away randomly. Currently, the light is permanently on, and passenger airbag light states the system is off from deploying in case of an accident. This would mean that I would be driving at a risk of airbags being non-deployable and that is truly unsafe. This problem was not addressed with a dealer or any other service center. The vehicle has never been inspected yet, but it is a concern that I’d like to move forward on. The passenger airbag light is illuminated on my dashboard as well as the light depicting that the system is off. I recently bought this car July 2022 and within six months from purchase the light started coming on randomly and disappearing. Now it is permanently on.

I contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle after the incident & explained what had happened. I spoke to Francisco, but he said there was nothing he could do unless I wanted to pay for diagnostics on the vehicle. The most recent incident occurred today, [XXX]. I had to stop driving immediately and had the car towed to an Infiniti dealership, where a full systems check was performed. However, since the issue didn’t replicate while there, the dealer said they could not determine the cause. The car is available for inspection if needed. The safety risk is severe: I could not stop or accelerate safely, and I struggled to steer — this put me and other drivers in danger of a serious accident. I have experienced this more than once. The dealership originally diagnosed worn brake pads, which I had replaced at an independent shop, but the problem continued afterward. I also showed the dealership photos of the warning symbol that appeared on my dash during both incidents. The car has been inspected by the Infiniti dealer and an independent mechanic, but no resolution has been found. No inspections have been done by police or insurance. This car has been drifting to the right since bought causing premature tire wear which has now been 5 sets of tires in 36k miles. The front right tire always seems to blow out. Alignment has always been knocked out in within weeks. Several independent shops point to defective bushings while infiniti doesn't see the issue. This same issue was recalled for the 2016 models. I've replaced the knuckle and lower control arm and now stays aligned but seems to causing premature tire wear and blowing the right front tire. I cant get more than 10k miles out of a set of tires and constant fighting with the car drifting to the right. I have several more documents. The consumer stated the reason for the drifting, the tire tears, and alignment knocking was due to a defective rack and pinion. The consumer stated that the dealerships are refusing to replace the defective part on the vehicle under the warranty that is now expired. Paying for alignments and tire replacements is a waste of money considering the root of the issue has not been fixed yet. The consumer stated that due to the multiple issues, they will not be able to do a private sell of the vehicle. The only option would be to sell it to the dealer.
