How to read a Infiniti QX55 VIN — every digit explained
Every Infiniti QX55 carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this QX55.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your QX55 VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

2023 Infiniti QX55 recalls 1
Latches/locks/linkages:doors:lock
What's wrong. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 INFINITI QX55 and 2022 INFINITI QX50 vehicles. The incorrect door latch may have been installed in the front right-side passenger door lock assembly, preventing the front right-side door lock from automatically locking.
Risk. An unlocked door may unlatch and open during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Fix. Dealers will replace the front right-side passenger door lock assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 14, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC962.

Engine And Engine Cooling:engine:hard Parts Internal/mechanical
What's wrong. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.
Risk. Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
Fix. Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25A8/A9 and R25B1/B2.

Every single one of these 2.0 litre engines should be recalled. My partner has a 2022 QX50 and the long engine should be replaced. On May 18, 2025, my QX55 with 16,500 miles that I was absolutely perfect in servicing suddenly started losing power, grinding, then the oil light came on, followed by the check engine light. Suddenly, it was undrivable in traffic. I was stuck in front of entrance to a hospital in the most inconvenient and dangerous place. It wouldn't start, and when it did, the grinding noise was incredibly loud. I was stranded and it was flatbed towed to Fort Wayne (Indiana) Infiniti, and the following diagnosis was yielded: CONNECTING ROD BEARING FAILURE FROM CYLINDER 4 - CONTAMINATED OIL CONTROL SYSTEM. INTERNAL FAILURE OF CONNECTING ROD BEARING. TURBOCHARGER OIL FEED LINE HAS METAL PIECES IN TURBOCHARGER. REPLACEMENT OF LONG ENGINE AND TURBOCHARGER ASSEMBLY REQUIRED. Nissan is trying to get away with recalling just a few of these. It is a design flaw; not an issue with a specific production period.
The contact owns a 2022 Infiniti QX55. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed, and there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle hesitated, and the ECM fault code was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with VCT actuator failure. The contact was informed that the VCT actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar failure; however, the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
We’ve taken the vehicle to two different Infiniti dealerships (Sewell and Crest) multiple times due to engine rattling, vibration noises, and propulsion issues. Unfortunately, we haven’t received any resolution or fix for these problems. We tried to upload a video with sound as reference but the platform doesn’t allow us to. We experienced similar issue that resulted in total engine failure on the highway with our children in the car in our Yukon Denali. We are fearful that something similar will occur. Please Help!!!
I have received email from my car dealer Grubbs Infiniti in Grapevine, TX. The email was regarding a recall for potential engine issues. I called my dealer and scheduled an inspection. When I sent my vehicle for inspection the dealer replaced my engine with a new engine without my consent. After the engine replacement I’ve received my vehicle back and I’ve been having issues where my vehicle suddenly got jammed while I was driving in my community. I called my dealer again and they took the car, fixed it and sent it back. Now after receiving the car my car is not starting and I did a jump start, eventually my car got started but I got an emission control system malfunction error and my car is not starting anymore. With all this I lost the confidence on my car and I need some kind of justice here. Thank you!!

I purchase my vehicle [XXX], While driving it I noticed that my driver seat was moving when I drive and turn corner, go on a hwy on ramp, or turn in a driveway. The car is under the manufacturer warranty and I have been taking my car back and forth to the only Infiniti dealership here in Las Vegas. Every time I take it there they tell me they cannot duplicate it, but they have replaced my seat track 3 times, which 2 of what I was told was broken. I keep telling Infiniti that this is a safety issue for me and I don’t feel safe driving my car. They cannot tell me why the seat track keeps breaking and I don’t know what else to do. I took it the the dealership I bought the vehicle from and 2 people there were able to duplicate the problem with my seat. As an SUV, the Infiniti QX55 is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package.
What sets your QX55's tow & payload rating:

- Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
- Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
- Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.
