How to read a Infiniti QX56 VIN — every digit explained
Every Infiniti QX56 carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this QX56.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your QX56 VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 infiniti q-x56. The vehicle was having a routine oil change when the dealer informed him that the front brake pads were defective. The brake pads were replaced at that time. While driving home from the dealer at unknown speeds, the brakes did not feel normal and took the vehicle back to the dealer. The dealer advised that the brakes were normal and would feel uncomfortable until they were broken in. The next day while driving at 55 mph and applying the brakes, the brakes would not engage and the contact crashed into a guard rail. The contact suffered injuries to his right foot. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact was transported to the hospital and one third of his foot was amputated due to the injury sustained in the crash. A police report was available. The manufacturer sent an investigator to further assess the failure in the vehicle but was ruled as inconclusive due to the extensive damage to the vehicle. The manufacturer advised the contact to address the failure with his insurance company. The failure mileage was 100,000.
At approximately 8k miles the dealer replaced the rotors and calipers per their service bulletin which seemed to solve the problem. Since then, periodically while driving, the brake light will illuminate when brakes are applied and the abs system activates and the brakes begin to groan, are spongy, have less than 10% braking power. This has happened to me 5 times over 90k miles. Although i did not make the connection at the time, i believe that it was the cause of a rear end collision that i was involved in 2008 when i attempted to brake the car on the freeway but felt that the car took much too long to come to a complete stop when i quickly slammed on the brakes.the vehicle continues these symptoms until the ignition is turned off. When restarted, the problem is resolved. It has mostly only occurred to me while driving away from a parking spot but yesterday it occurred while i was driving on the freeway at speed exceeding 50 mph. I was only able to stop the vehicle by downshifting my automatic to 1st gear while attempting to activate the emergency brake. I was fortunate that i was on a level freeway and not going down a steep incline. After i was able to safely pull over, the ignition was turned off and the car was restarted with no brake problems. Today i took the car into the infiniti dealer and they said that it was a 'common problem' but not a recall and that they would try to reprogram the computer. Reprogramming did not work and they said i would need a new abs booster pump at a cost to me of $925. I looked up the problem on consumer websites and found that the problem is fairly common with both the 2004 nissan titan and armada and the infiniti qx56. It seems to be a problem with the c1179 code. What i discovered is that any consumers still had the problem even after they reprogrammed the computer and replaced the abs booster pump. A service bulletin repair exists for the 2004 nissan titan (nhtsa item number: 10020026). This is a serious safety concern. *tr
I applied brakes with plenty of lead time but the qx56 failed to brake causing me to rear end another suv; i did minimal damage to the other car but damaged my radiator/front-bumper/hood. I had a similar abs issue about a week before as described by many for the 2004-2006 nissan/infinity recall but i didn't research that recall until this current accident. My airbags did not go off. On initially breaking it sounded like the abs was going to kick in but the car kept moving forward with none of the normal pulsing action that would normally be felt with abs and no reduction in speed as the brake pedal was fully depressed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 infiniti qx56. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph and depressing the brake pedal, she noticed a vibration in the pedal and the vehicle would not stop. The brake light, vdc and the abs warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure recurred six times while the contact was traveling at different speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer six different times. The technician stated the brake booster and the master vac assembly would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred and resulted in the contact being involved in a crash. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 48,670.
The brake pedal seems spongy and while braking at slower speeds the seat belt pulls back violently pinning the driver back against the seat. Rear brakes have been replaced and brake system fluid check still no different.
Driving down highway 421 in wilkesboro, nc on a 45 mph section of the highway, merged over into the turning lane to turn left across two lanes of traffic. Waited for a break in traffic, upon a break in traffic tried to accelerate to cross traffic, as vehicle started to accelerate it stalled in middle of road. Wife and children in car started screaming. Traffic nice enough not to run into us. Had car towed to local automotive repair shop. Found that this is a common problem for the 5.6 litter nissan/ infiniti engine. One of the timing gears for the left bank stopped rotating some how. This side of the engine timing system also powers the fuel pump so that you cannot even limp across the road on half the engine. It just stops right where you are. You have no steering no breaking and no propulsion. This is a dangerous situation and the manufacture should be held responsible for the design and lack of quality of the engine.
On two separate occasions within two days, the brake pedal went completely to the floor. In the first instance, i was already at a complete stop with my foot on the brake pedal when it suddenly collapsed all the way to the floor. In the second instance, as soon as i came to a complete stop, the brake pedal collapsed all the way to the floor. I am now afraid to drive the car, for fear it will occur again when i am not completely stopped, and i will have no braking ability. The infiniti dealer has inspected the car, claims nothing is wrong, and they were unable to replicate the problem. The car has been sitting at the dealer for over a week awaiting an inspection by a representative from infiniti consumer affairs. The problem seems very similar to a problem experienced on earlier model years, when the booster cylinder malfunctioned. Clearly, there is some sort of problem with the brake hydraulics...
When i'm stopped at a light the vehicle will start to roll forward unexpectedly and extra pressure needs to be applied to the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from moving, at this point the brake pedal is almost at the floor and pumping the pedal a few times will restore the brakes to a normal feel. The infiniti dealer states this is a normal condition and repairs are not needed. This has been ongoing since 04/2015 to present.

There was car that pulled up behind me while i was idle in the driveway and as i pulled out no warning beep..and now the vehicle. Was not cranking for several hours and nothing is wrong with battery and remote is fully charged & have been stranded seval times because if of it...this has to be a recall
The vehicle died when at a stop light and rolled back hitting the car behind us. I looked on your website and apparently it was caused by a faulty engine control module (ecm) in the intelligent power distribution module (ipdm). This appears to have been recalled on all 2004 to 2006 infiniti qx56 vehicles, however, i received no such notice and infiniti says their is not recall associated with my vin number. I believe my vin number was left out in error and this should be recalled. This vehicle has also lost power a number of times while driving, but those incidents didn't result in an accident (luckily). Thank you. *tr
The contact owns a 2013 Infiniti QX56. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormally loud ticking sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the timing chain had failed, and the failure was related to Infiniti Campaign Number: P6305. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the campaign had expired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
Started car in the morning and it started misfiring very badly. Flashing check engine light. Immediately pulled over and shut engine off. Had it towed to my shop I use they hooked it up to computer and it was diagnosed as a loose timing chain. Basically timing chain replacement This is rediculous only has 129k miles. They claim timing chain and components are good til 300k with regular maintenance. This suv since new has had synthetic mobile 1 oil changed every 3500 miles. There was a voluntary recall on this issue. Why was it ever taken down Now I’m paying the car payment on a car I cannot drive. Till I spend $5000 to have all that replaced
Our Infiniti QX56 started misfiring and shaking when driving. We took it in to the Infiniti dealership and was informed it is a bad timing chain. Upon research, we realized there was a recall for this issue on 2013 Infiniti QX56 models just like ours. However, our VIN did not show on the recall list. Our car has been meticulously maintained. Our research revealed that timing chains in well maintained cars should last up to 300,000 miles. Our car has 105,000 miles. We feel this repair should be covered by Infiniti. We did not pay for a luxury car to have this type of issue. The car is undrivable due to safety concerns and we would like this addressed immediately.
The timing chain needs to be replaced on my vehicle with under 80,000 miles. Researching the issue i found that this is a very common problem with this specific engine. This is an $80,000+ car brand new and it did not last 80,000 miles. This is an obvious part malfunction due to the design of the vehicle. Infiniti should do something. It is a costly repair.
The contact owns a 2013 Infiniti QX56. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle made abnormal rattling sounds. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the failure was occurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the timing chain guide and the timing chain needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist because the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The contact referenced service bulletin #P6305. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
Took car in for maintenance and was told I needed a new timing chain as its an often replaced part and that is failing on my car , I looked it up and found out that its a voluntary recall at present after numerous complaints and the dealer admitted they are faulty but mine wasn't in the VIN range for reimbursement. I had to pay $3800 dollars to replace and wait 10 days for completion, this is an expensive repair on a car of this caliber , yet Infiniti offers no compensation. This faulty chain which is supposed to last a cars lifetime could cause the engine to FAIL resulting in a hazard to my family.

Suv would not start so had to get a jump. 1 week later same thing. Had battery tested but was not bad and it had just been replaced by dealer in 2019. 1 week later again suv would not start. Got a jump and took to jba infiniti in ellicott city, md who charged the battery for 2 hours. 2 weeks later, suv is hesitating to start. I refuse to pay another $186 for them to diagnose and then recharge the battery again. After some research it looks like others are having this same issue. Next, catalytic converters. Suv is 8 years old and jba infiniti is telling me i need to replace them @ a cost of $7500. This is ridiculous.....i don't have loss of power but i so get the "rotten egg" smell sometimes. I would think this part would be covered under emission warranty for at least 15 years. I have 142000 miles on it.

While driving at approximately 45 mph under clear driving conditions and towing a travel trailer, infiniti qx-56 had an extensive electrical fire in front, interior console, which caused major/extensive damage to vehicle. If not extinguished with a fire extinguisher, it would have caused major injury or death to the occupants and totaled the vehicle. Infiniti replaced all of the defective components (approx $12,000 of damage to the vehicle). *jb *nm

Dead battery. Replaced alternator and battery, vehicle is dead every 2-3 days. Many others report the same issue. Infiniti has an "infotainment software update" to fix this problem but have no fix for older vehicles.

My wife drove to my daughters school school for a basketball practice. She locked the doors using the keyfob like always. When she got back to the car she unlock the doors using the keyfob, but this time the drivers door did not open. She tried using the door entry button on the handle which did not work. She then got in thru the passenger door and tried to pull the handle to open the door and that did not work. From the inside of the car she had to climb over the center console to get into the driver seat. I checked the operation myself when she got home and i could not find a way to open the door. After doing some research on the internet i found that this was a problem with the design of the plastic actuator and its component. With the number of people having this problem, i am surprised there isn't a recall similar to the takata airbags since this would no pass an inspection and would be a hazard in the case of an accident
On more than one occasion after driving to a store or appt. And park . Go out to a completely dead vehicle. Jump start to get going may go for a month or so and it will happen again with no warning.

The standard qx56 comes with more than adequate room for any size shoe on the accelerator pedal. Less than 10% of the qx models are ordered with the technology package. This package includes a design feature that causes the gas pedal to push back against the operators foot if the radar senses that the vehicle is closing distance too quickly on the vehicle ahead. The mechanical/electrical device that performs this action is mounted to the firewall at the top of the accelerator pedal. I am 6'3" tall and have a size 12 shoe. The tip of my shoe keeps getting caught under this mechanical device and on multiple occasions in the first week of ownership it has caused a momentary delay in quickly moving from the accelerator to the brake pedal. The hang up of the tip of my shoe is exaggerated greatly by dress shoes with a firmer tip of the sole of the shoe. Again, this device is only present on qx models with the technology package. This tech package device also gets in the way as you go to push on the gas pedal. The only way to avoid this problem is to always remember to place your right heel at least 2" away from the base of the gas pedal and push it only with your toes. Moving your heel away from the bottom of the pedal results in the tip of your shoe touching the pedal lower and just brushing the underside of the tech package device. I have contacted consumer support at infiniti usa and they have told me that they have had complaints but "that's just the way it is for people with bigger feet". I guess they don't have size 12 in japan. This is a hazard when the tip of my right shoe gets caught and prevents me from moving quickly to the brake. *tt
Tl* the contact owns an 2010 infiniti qx56. The contact was driving approximately between 30-40 mph. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal there was a delay response. The contact required an increase in stopping distance during braking. The failure was continuous whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle is the process of being taken to authorized dealer for inspection. The failure mileage was 15.
Multiple incidents (3) of braking issues where vehicle loses braking ability however, it feels as though the abs brakes are engaging. All three times the vehicle is moving at or about 40 mph or less and decelerating so i have been able to come to a safe stop. However, i do have to push the brake pedal nearly to the floor and the "brake" warning light also comes on. . When i turn the vehicle off, it resets and i do not have any other issues immediately. The third time (today) 12/12/11, i took the truck to dealer and they, at first, said they were not able to find anything wrong with the vehicle. Then upon further investigation they claim it's a sensor that will cost $1700 to replace. Discussion threads i have read online (from as far back as 2004 until the present) have shown this to be a continuing problem on nissan armada's (the parent company of infiniti) and the qx56's from models 2004 to the present and nissan continues to ignore the problem. Some have even had complete brake failure and accidents. I will take my research to the dealer tomorrow and fight to have my problem taken care of pro bono or i may continue to drive it because i cannot afford $1700 which hopefully will not lead to a worse problem down the road. This needs immediate attention. *tr
On 9-4-2011 i left tallahassee, florida. As i got to the edge of town i noticed it started to idle slightly high. By the time i got to thomasville, georgia, it would accelerate to about 45 mph without any acceleration pressure and the brakes were required frequently. Between thomasville and moultrie, georgia, it would accelerate independently but it would drop down if i pressed and released the accelerator. It also seemed to maintain speed a bit better if i used the cruise control. As i turned onto mack dekle road just south of moultrie, the engine tacked out into the (maximum) red area. In a panic, i pressed the brake and slowed down enough to force it to "park". I restarted the vehicle several times and it revved to maximum rpms. I left it in the lane and called my wife who called ctv towing. After about 30 minutes i started it and it idled normally so i carefully moved it to the lee lewis road (less traffic and speed). The vehicle was then towed to nappleton infinity in tallahssee, florida on monday. I called the infinity dealer to tell them it was coming. After running computer checks and test driving, they concluding that the accelerator was hung on the floor mat. That is actually not the case as there was an obvious spontaneous acceleration that started in tallahassee. The floor mat was not moved between the time the vehicle accelerated on mack dekle road and the time it idled/ran normally to move it to lee lewis road. *tr
2008 infinity qx56 brake failure while driving. On june 30, 2011, while driving the car and turning into a subdivision and trying to apply the breaks, a loud screeching sound was heard and the brakes filed and the brake warning light came on. After pumping the brakes several times they finally worked. This was a day after the car would not in a parking lot because the battery was dead. We had aaa jump start the car and were informed the battery needed to be replaced. Not sure if this is related or not. Took vehicle to dealership and they could not find an issue. The computer did not register the brake light coming on so they had no more information. We found a post on the armada forum club (http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20102&page=3) outlining several people who have had similar issues and nissan still fails to take action on this. My wife was traveling with out 3 children and we are lucky she did not need to stop suddenly when this occurred. Thee dealership is going to do research but something should be done by the manufacturer. *tr
Last week i experienced two separate, unrelated safety problems with my 2008 infiniti qx56. On thursday the truck abruptly lost all power including power steering and brakes and came to rest on a highway. It turns out that i had run out of fuel, despite the fuel gauge reading just under half a tank remaining. I had earlier been notified of a recall regarding this issue, but was on a wait list due to lack of replacement parts. The vehicle was repaired per the recall the next day, friday. On sunday, the vehicle suddenly lost it's brakes, the brake pedal fell to the floor, and the brake warning light went off. I was able to bring the vehicle to stop and had it towed to the dealer, who confirmed the failure and attributed it to a failed master brake booster. *tr

There's a strong odor of gasoline once we park the vehicle. I did some searches online and noticed there was a recall for nissan/infinit 2012 vehicles due to 'the fuel pressure sensors may not have been sufficiently tightened during production. As a result, the fuel pressure sensor may loosen with vehicle usage and cause a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could cause a vehicle fire.' this includes 2012 infinit qx56 which is the vehicle we have but when i search my vehicles vin, your site tells me there is no recall. I believe more vehicles than originally thought might have this recall issue.

The contact stated that the air suspension system on the vehicle never properly worked. There was an attempt to make repairs but that did not fix the problem.
While my wife was driving our QX56 during normal conditions at approximately 40MPH, QX56 begun to swerve repeatedly left to right in a dangerous manner and she had to apply brakes rapidly. Looking under the vehicle, the lower control arm was badly cracked and the cause of the swerving. I towed to my local shop (not Infiniti dealership) for repair and they confirmed the right control arm was cracked. They stated the left control arm was also severely rusted / damaged and wasn't too far from cracking either. Fortunately, my wife was only going 40mph and was able to control the swerving. If going 70 or 75MPH on the highway, I'm not sure that would have been possible. Pictures are attached, both of broken right control arm which caused swerving and left control arm that is near cracking. With both control arms going out at same time, I feel this is a dangerous, quality control issue from Infiniti. I spoke with Seth at Infiniti Consumer affairs who stated they wouldn't reimburse the repair at a non-Infiniti repair show and didn't appear to plan to pass on the seriousness of the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 infiniti qx56. While driving 30 mph, the contact heard a loud noise and the vehicle shook. The following day, the contact noticed that the rear of the vehicle was sagging. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the suspension air bag on the rear driver's side of the vehicle exploded and needed to be replaced. The contact was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
While driving my vehicle with my family, I experienced a sudden and dangerous loss of control. I was able to safely maneuver the vehicle off the roadway without injury. After inspection, it was determined that the subframe had fractured due to severe rust, which was not previously identified. The failure occurred without warning and directly impacted the ability to control the vehicle, creating a significant safety hazard. No warnings or messages indicated a problem existed prior to the failure.
While driving at highway speed, rear of vehicle suddenly became uncontrolled and caused vehicle to swerve dangerously. If a vehicle would have been in the adjacent lane an accident would have occurred. Upon initial inspection, the left rear lower control arm failed catastrophically due to rust rendering the vehicle undrivable. Driver and passenger were put at risk as a result of this incident. Deeper inspection revealed the right rear control arm was also compromised due to rust as well as the two forward mounting points of the modular rear suspension cradle (framework). No warning lights appeared, however the steering wheel did begin correcting to the right just prior to event, similar to heavy wind situation. Parts have not been inspected by manufacturer. Pictures attached. Parts are available for inspection upon request.
I have issues with air compressor and timing chain that just randomly went out, i was told there was a recall or campaign for it with infiniti i called infiniti and sent it to the dealership they stated it was not for my actual vin number but for same car with different vin number, i asked the question since i am having the same issue that has a recall on another vin same vehicle shouldn't your company fix all of that year vehicles make and model. I was told no.
My 2012 infiniti qx56 with hbmc drives very twitchy and feels unsafe to drive. It hadles well on perfectly smooth roads but if there are any imperfections it tries to jump back and forth in the lane. I have had the wheels balanced and alignment performed at the local nissan dealer but this has not helped the driving characteristics. If i am coming into a corner too fast the back end will skip about as if the rear alignment is out of whack. I am not sure if this has to do with the 22" wheels being too heavy or the drive by wire being calibrated to sensitive or if there is something wrong with the suspension the dealer is not spotting. I feel like i want to trade the car in after only 4 months and 8,000 miles of driving it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 infiniti qx56. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, another vehicle crashed into the contact's vehicle and the air bags deployed. As a result, the contact sustained cuts by glass fragments from the air bag. A police report was filed and the contact required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
I was involved in an auto rollover accident on January2, 2023 when a driver "t-boned" me in my 2008 Infiniti Qx56 striking the middle of the passenger side of my Qx56 after running a stop sign and failing to yield to my right of way causing my Qx56 to roll over 3 times. My driver's steering wheel airbag did NOT deploy. To my knowledge all the other airbags did deploy. I suffered neck, right shoulder, and lower back injuries from the rollover but remained in the driver's seat as the seatbelt system worked well. My Qx56 was a total loss.
Consumer's vehicle was in a head on collision while driving at approximately 45 mph. Upon impact, the air bags failed to deploy. *ak

Timing chain started rattling @ 125,000 miles.. However, my vin shows no recall for my car. Cats went bad, had to be replaced and now need to be replaced again. Yet no recall on my car. The battery constantly goes dead in the car. I bought a new infinity battery in the car the same thing happened. You can reproduce this problem by sitting in the car listening to the radio for 30 minutes. I was sitting in the car listening radio and the car battery went dead and the car shut off. This is a huge issue, the qx56 is a 8 cylinder car. It does not charge very easily. I have to carry a battery charger in my car. I have been stranded several times in the last year. I have taken the car to infinity and they claim nothing is wrong with the car. Since it is a big car the battery drain quickly.
My air bag light was on. I took my vehicle to the dealership to find out what was the problem. The issue that they reported to me was "past code for air bag passenger side: will need to replace diagnostics module to begin diagnosis."
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 infinity qx56. The contact stated that the front passenger air bag cover was cracking. There were no recalls and the issue was not covered under the extended warranty. The air bag could deploy without warning since it was cracked and possibly injurie the passenger. The contact went to infiniti of coral gables (2701 s le jeune rd coral gables, fl 33134 (786) 899-5127) who offered no assistance or diagnoses and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl* takata recall. The contact owns a 2012 infiniti qx56. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v683000 (air bags). The dealer indicated that they may be able to schedule the repair in mid february. When the contact attempted to schedule the repair, the parts were unavailable. The dealer may have reported to the manufacturer that the recall repair was completed, but the vehicle was not repaired. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Air bags do not engage when my wife sits in front seat. She weighs 100 pounds but i would think air bag system should work for an adult of this size. *tr
Traveling at 1 mph, my 2011 infiniti qx56 bumped another vehicle. There was no damage to either vehicle, but my driver airbag deployed. Infiniti is refusing to look at the vehicle unless my insurance company asks them to. I feel this low speed deployment is from a defect in this week old vehicle, but cannot get help. I am concerned infiniti is attempting to ignore the problem and brush it under the rug. *tr

Timing chain replacement needed after 80000 miles
A whine or hiss when i start the vehicle and it goes away after about 10-15 minutes. It was determined to be a timing chain issue by my mechanic. There appears to be a safety recall notice for the 2012 qx56, but not for my specific vin. I don't understand how the nhtsa allows a manufacturer to only include a portion of the 2012 model and not others. This is a safety recall! Does someone at the nhtsa reconcile the 2012 qx56 vehicles sold versus the vins eligible to be covered under this safety recall notice? Obviously, others are having the same problem! I suggest the nhtsa take safety recall notices more serious and hold manufacturers accountable!!!
My 2012 infiniti seems to be having the same problem other infiniti qx56 owners are having. Starts with a loud hissing/whistling sound which seems to go away after 10-20 minutes of driving and the car feels just fine. Today all my dashboard lights came on and my husband took the vehicle into the infiniti dealer, just to have the mechanic return a few minutes later to inform us it is a timing chain issue. I am huge on researching and after a few hours of research and realizing that some of these models have had recalls issued according to vin# for this same exact issue, i am in awe on why this recall is only being applied to specific vin #'s and not every single 2012 qx56 model. Every complaint listed online from owners of these vehicles list the same exact issue. How are we being held accountable for a more than obvious manufacturing problem.

What sets your QX56's tow & payload rating:
- Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
- Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
- Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
- Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.
