How to read a Infiniti QX60 VIN — every digit explained
Every Infiniti QX60 carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this QX60.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your QX60 VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

On 2/18/2020 i was driving my vehicle in a snowy weather and my brakes failed to stop my vehicle and ended up sliding down the carb and hit a parked vehicle. I have a recall for abs. My transfer case under the hood was leaking and making a weird loud noice. Went to the dealership right before the accident happened but they asked me to come back on monday.
My car rolls back and forward, more than normal, after parking and putting the park into park and lifting foot off the break. It rolls back so fast that it knocked my mother forward and it knocked my daughter to the ground. So, when I put the car in park and I release the break is when it rolls back far enough to become a safety concern. The car also lurches forward when applying the gas pedal from a stoped position which is a safety hazard because it could potentially hit another car in front of me. Lastly, the car has a major hesitation from a slower speed into a higher speed which has been an hazard because if a car is coming up fast behind me I can’t pick up speed fast enough to avoid collision. It always happens getting off a ramp and driving onto a state road that has a speed limit of 70mph. The car is currently being serviced for the 3rd time since February but they told me that they can’t fix it because the Infiniti service department doesn’t have “codes” for the 2023 yet and that if it were a 2022 then they could fix it right away.
When accelerating the car and turning left or right the car will shake and jerk. Looks like a cbc transmission
The car was in park in our garage. My husband was sitting in driver seat with one leg out and the door open. The car made a sound and started moving in reverse. It only stopped because the door hit our garage wall and he was trying to stop the car. He cut his hand in the process and the door frame bent and glass shattered. *dsy
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 infiniti qx60. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway with the ignition off, the vehicle rolled backwards. The contact stated that the vehicle struck and ran over his spouse. The spouse sustained five fractured ribs, a fractured collar bone, a fractured clavicle, a punctured lung, and contusions on the head and face. The contact was transported by ambulance to the hospital for medical attention. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
Vehicle was in motion(highway) will juddering, refuse to change gear properly and shake or jerk like i have never seen.i was about to be hitted from the back and afraid of this car.when to the dealer, and they do like they are not aware of this issue of the powertrain.this brand or vehicle is a serious issue that need the authority voice to fix before it kill someone.
Separate but related issues: 1) crash- car was parked at a gas station with nobody inside; after a minute or two it reversed, turned, came to a stop, then moved forward and crashed into a wall. Have gas station surveillance video footage to show. Has been described as "haunted." perhaps related to accident avoidance systems. 2) power does not engage on incline- on several occasions (repeatable) when the car is on a modest incline and stopped, the forward power does not engage causing car to roll backward. Gas must be pressed to 3/4 full speed in order to engage power. 3) transmission design flaw- in any gear other than park, the car can roll freely in any direction, with or without engine running. For example if facing downhill and in reverse, with car running, the car can roll forward without stop or resistance from the transmission / engine or stalling out, hence locking the engine. 4) battery issue- on two separate occasions within a few months of purchase, the battery was completely depleted requiring a jump start. Given all the electronics in the car that prevent such a thing (lights turn off, can't lock keys in car, etc) seems impossible. Dealer found no cause.
We went to a carwash and had to put the car in neutral. Not easy to do, but we finally got it in neutral. So, we come to the end of the wash, the car is rolling out and when we tried to move it back into drive, IT WOULDN'T GO! It kept on beeping every time we tried. Panic set in and my son jumped out to push the car out of the way but the car PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK! He jumped back in and accidentally hit the brake which allowed him to push it back into drive.
there are multiple issues with the aforementioned vehicle and I have brought it to the dealership multiple times, but they stated that although Infiniti is aware of the issues they do not have a fix. When it rains out the locking mechanism fails on the vehicle and I am locked out of the vehicle. In addition to that, on multiple occasions, I place the car in park when I come to a stop and the vehicle does not stay in park. It goes back into drive. There is an overheating issue with the wireless charging pad. The charging pad is not charging the cell phone, but it is producing heat to the degree that it causes the iPhone to overheat and shut down . The Bluetooth system is a complete failure. During the middle of a drive when you are utilizing the navigation system the system completely shuts down. It is inoperable. This happens with Apple CarPlay specifically and it renders the system completely useless. this is a serious safety issue
Valve seal deterioration at 24000 miles, leaking, and cabin air filters are ruined.

The car jerks forward when accelerating from a stopped position which throws everyone in the car forward and it could potentially hit something or someone. The car does not stay in position when put in park or even turned off. It rolls back 2 feet and it hit my daughter and knocked her down from the rear and the car door hit my mother because it rolls back too far. Also, it has a major hesitation when trying to accelerate. When trying to pass a vehicle I almost got hit from a car behind me. These problems happen in every 2023 Infiniti QX60. My car is currently in the shop trying to be for the second time but each loaner car has the same problems. One infiniti service manager said the jerking forward is a “global problem” in this model.
My 2023 Infiniti QX60 Autograph model caught fire in the engine in my driveway while parked on Thursday, [XXX] at approximately [XXX] EST. Fire department was dispatched and fire marshal completed a report. There were no warnings or indications prior to the fire. My vehicle had been parked in my driveway since approximately 12:40 pm EST the same day. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Hello, When I originally leased this vehicle I had electrical issues with the radio and also an intermittent rotten egg smell. I have brought my car in for this they said they fixed the radio issue but didn’t smell the smell we were smelling in it. As soon as I got it back the same stuff was happening again. I had brought it back in for service and they said they couldn’t find anything from with it. In October I was at a shopping center and and my car wouldn’t start. I had called they told me service was closing I would need to call for a tow truck I walked home because I needed to get to my son’s football game and picked up the other set of keys walked back and the vehicle started. I know it’s not the keys because the vehicle wouldn’t start with the phone app. Since that day 3 other times the vehicle wouldn’t start but eventually did within a few minutes. Last night as I was leaving the hospital visiting my mom my car wouldn’t open. I tried a few times and then used the app and the app was able to unlock the car doors. This is a brand new 2026 vehicle and I’m not getting help from the service department at the dealership. Can you please advise me on what to do?
Vehicle experiences noticeable vibration or rough idle when in Drive at stop, especially after warm-up. The issue persists despite regular maintenance and oil changes. Multiple owners report similar symptoms in 2022–2025 Infiniti QX60 models. The 2025 QX60 uses a new engine that has already been recalled in other Infiniti models due to similar issues. However, there has been no recall or official repair action issued for the 2025 QX60, even though the same engine and symptoms are present. Possible engine mount or idle control defect.
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding an ongoing issue with my 2025 Infiniti QX60, which is equipped with the VC-Turbo engine. I have noticed an abnormal engine vibration while the vehicle is idling, such as when waiting at traffic lights or during stop-and-go driving. I am concerned because this issue appears to be related to the same VC-Turbo engine that is included in the recent recall for various Nissan and Infiniti models, including the Nissan Rogue, Altima, Infiniti QX50, and QX55, manufactured between 2019 and 2024. However, my 2025 Infiniti QX60, which uses the same engine type, was not included in the recall. The vibration issue has caused me significant concern about the safety and reliability of my vehicle. Given that the recall addresses engine failures and related risks in the affected models, I believe that my vehicle should be included in the recall as well, as it uses the same engine type and exhibits similar issues. I kindly request that NHTSA review this matter and include the 2025 Infiniti QX60 in the ongoing recall for VC-Turbo engines. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide in addressing this concern and ensuring the safety of my vehicle.
On Saturday, 3/22/25-vehicle lease start date for the 2025 QX60-lease from Sanford Infiniti On Saturday, 4/5/25- brought the vehicle back to Sanford Infiniti due to noise coming from the engine. According to their written paperwork, “The issue is currently under engineering review and the temporary fix is to disable the ANC (Active noise cancellation). Turned off ANC as instructed by DTS, the concern is under engineering review.” On Sunday, 7/6/25, on my way back from being out of town, as I approached an oncoming red light with cars in front of me, I tried to press the brakes and the brakes locked up, hard locked. I repeatedly hit the brakes until they finally unlocked and stopped the vehicle right before impact. I then pulled over to calm down from shaking after almost getting into a car accident. The brake issue could have been worse, and I could have not only hurt myself but others too. They may not have ‘found’ something wrong with the brakes, but the brakes locked up me and I was the one who almost got into the car accident, not them. I don’t trust the car anymore and would like to find a replacement but definitely NOT with Infiniti. However, even if I did get the car back, I do not want to drive it as I do not feel SAFE driving it and I would hope that they aren’t waiting for me to get into an actual car accident to then try to resolve this.
Vehicles engine died and the vehicle completely stopped in the middle of the highway.
After going through a touchless car wash with undercarriage spray and clean, the vehicle stalled 5-10 minutes later. This occurred after the wash was completed and driving away. Suddenly the engine began to lose power, stumbled, and then died while driving. If I had to guess this was a sensor or some electrical component that may have been affected by the water spray from underneath. There were no check engine or other warning lights when this occurred. Attempted to restart the engine. After a few seconds longer than normal it started and appeared to run fine. Drove it home afterward. If the water caused the issue there are serious implications for driving in rain, through puddles, or snow as that water can migrate up into the engine compartment during driving (would be especially dangerous at highway speeds). If it makes any difference, the vehicle did idle fine for a few minutes after leaving and stopping outside the touchless car wash. Only after a walkaround, removing trash from the vehicle, and then driving away did the stall occur.
On February 27th, 2026, around 2:00 PM, while driving my 2024 Infinity QX60 on Hwy. 459 in Birmingham, AL, at approximately 70 mph in heavy traffic, the engine suddenly shut down completely and shifted into neutral without any prior warning lights, noises, or symptoms. I had great difficulty figuring out what had happened, and struggled to avoid being hit while crossing over three lanes to coast to the shoulder. I attempted to put the car back into drive without success and was absolutely terrified as I barely missed being hit by an 18-wheeler traveling behind me at a high rate of speed. The car was shuddering, but I managed to drive a short distance to the Birmingham Nissan dealer. After an inspection, they stated it was due to an improperly installed air filter that interfered with the MAF, and I was told I had to pay 1,000 for repairs. The Forward Collision warning sensor went out after the MAF was repaired, but the car was released to us. We had to take it right back to the dealer and leave it again.
While at a stop in DRIVE, the car would automatically shift itself into Neutral without warning. When I contacted the dealer, they were aware of this issue in other vehicles. I brough the car in for service and in the description of the work, the mention that they knew where to address the problem, as it is a known issue. The dealership stated, "PREFORMED BATTERY PERFORMANCE TEST PER PREVIOUS TECH LINE CASES WITH SIMILAR ISSUES. BATTERY PASSED TEST WITH CPX900 AND DCA8000. CONTACTED TECHLINE AND WAS INFORMED TO CHECK FUEL PRESSURE AND FUEL PRESSURE BLEED OFF DUE TO SIMILAR CASES EXHIBITING SAME CONDITIONS. FOUND LPFP TO BE ONLY PRODUCING 45PSI AT IDLE AND IMMEDIATE BLEED OFF WHEN VEHICLE SHUT OFF. CAUSING CAR TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AS FAIL SAFE * REPLACE LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP PER TECHLINE RECOMMENDATION"

I am submitting this to supplement NHTSA Complaint No. 11704996 regarding a 2024 INFINITI QX60. Current mileage approx. 31,500. No injuries. Crash/Incident (property damage only): Within the first 2 months of ownership, while backing into a parking space at a grocery store parking lot, the Parking Collision Warning did not alert and Automatic Emergency Braking did not activate. I struck a shopping cart I did not see, causing minor damage/dent to the liftgate (no injuries). Additional ADAS safety concern (near-miss / repeated events): During the first year of ownership, on at least two occasions while using Intelligent Cruise Control / driver assist (steering assist) on a highway, when the vehicle ahead braked, my vehicle did not slow down or brake as expected and continued approaching at the prior speed. I had to brake immediately and steer to avoid a collision. No crash or injuries occurred. Similar instances have occurred additional times; however, I was monitoring the system and manually braked in time when it did not slow/stop from a safe following distance. I am concerned about intermittent non-response of these driver-assist braking functions. Ongoing safety-related issues since about the 6th month of the first year: 1) Windshield washer system leak/empty reservoir (reduced visibility). Concern began after prior dealer visit on 06/03–06/04/2025 for panoramic sunroof noise. 2) Rear driver-side window intermittently lowers by itself (electrical). 3) Side mirror intermittently fails to unfold/open (visibility). 4) Water intrusion into cabin from top of front passenger door area during rain/car washes (photos available), raising concern for electrical/safe operation. 5) Panoramic sunroof creaking noise (distraction). Request NHTSA document and evaluate for potential defect trend.

Driver assistance pkg and around view monitor with mod does not work anymore after collision repair. The suv was repaired with genuine infiniti parts. After the repair was completed, the driver assistance package options and the moving object detection at the front no longer works. It has been at the collision center and infiniti dealership for over 2 months and they can not figure out the cause of the malfunction. All the infiniti dealership has done was said the computer does not show an error. I have asked infiniti to call in an expert engineer if they do not know how to fix it. If it is a faulty system, infiniti needs to disclose that to the public because i am sure that i am not the only one that has had a front collision in a qx60. Many people may not even know that this feature does not work on their vehicle any longer. If there is a fix for this problem, then infiniti should also disclose that instead of trying to get away with not fixing the issues. As we expect the airbag to deploy to keep us safe, we also expect our diver assistance package to work properly as well. *bf *bf *jb
I was bckng out of a pkng spot between 2 cars and the back up camera showed lots of space. I made sure the right of my vehicle would not hit parked cars i was clear on the left. I backed up a few inches and heard glass break and tapped the beige brick wall. Until impact the sensors did not light up or beep at all. At the point of impact it was frenzy beeping. A witness saw the incident and we walked behind the vehicle to see damage. Because the rear lights and brake lights stick out further than the bumper the lights are damaged. I took it to the dealer the next day, tmo came out to look at my issue. He tested the back up with an employee standing behind the same sensor. It did it's job and started beeping at approx a ft. From the employee who was wearing dark uniform clothes. I was dismissed that they couldn't test the sensor because it was damaged (why would an executive put an employee behind the same "damaged" sensor that worked? I asked tmo ok humor me and back into that beige wall over there - he said to get in,passenger. He proceeded to back into the wall, neither lights nor sensor light up or beeped. I looked at the camera looked like lots of room left. I told him to keep going - see how close you can get. His answer was no, maybe your right it doesn't detect light color objects. Call consumer affairs and tell them. Consumer affairs brandon called today, he said to hold while he called the dealer to get an internal specialist scheduled to check out the sensor with the service dept. Brandon got back on the line and said since it was a collision no way to check the sensors. Well, i have a drivers sensors that wasn't affected test that one. They declined. My own family testing shows the sensors do not detect a beige or white color until the point of impact. I was told not to rely on electrical they are aids only and could fail. Beware of people in beige or white.

very heavy vibration. Entire vehicle shaking. I thought it was the motor mounts. Very intermitent. Kicks in at 2,000 rpm. I went to dealership and found out the problem is active noise reduction has a problem with a defect on amplifier. Dealer couldn't fix the problem so they shut off the active noise cancellation function for now.

Most issues began around the 6th month of the first year of ownership and have persisted. Current mileage is ~31,500. Safety-related defects: 1.Washer system leak/empty reservoir: washer fluid repeatedly drains/ends up empty, preventing windshield cleaning while driving and reducing visibility. Began after a dealer visit on 06/03–06/04/2025 for panoramic sunroof noise (“concern began after prior dealer visit on 06/03–06/04/2025”). 2.Rear driver-side window intermittently lowers by itself (electrical), creating distraction and a safety/security risk. 3.Side mirror intermittently fails to unfold/open, reducing rear/side visibility. 4.Water intrusion into cabin from top of front passenger door area during rain/car washes, causing staining/odor and raising concern for electrical components/safe operation. 5.Panoramic sunroof creaking noise when closed (driver distraction); prior service attempt (~2 days) did not resolve. 6.ADAS concerns: Automatic Emergency Braking and Parking Collision Warning intermittently fail to activate / provide alerts when expected, creating driver distraction and uncertainty about proper system operation. No crash or injury has occurred. Please document these issues and evaluate for a potential defect trend/recall if similar complaints exist.

I was involved in a multi-car accident on 11/16/23 wile traveling on the 485 Beltway around Charlotte, NC. It was approximately 6 pm, and completely dark. The traffic was very heavy and traveling at 70 mph ( the speed limit) when a car in front of me was stopped. My 2020 Infinity QX60 did NOT alert me of a potential frontal collision, nor did the car begin braking. I slammed on the brakes, but was unable to keep from hitting the car in front of me. I was then hit in my rear by the car in back of me. NONE of my airbags went off!!! That is inconceivable since my front end collided with the car in front of me AND the car behind me hit my car's rear end. I have a badly bruised sternum and am in a great deal of pain. It hurts all of the time, and is excruciating when I move. The safety systems FAILED. I'm very fortunate that I wasn't more badly injured. My SUV was towed to Larry Campbell's Towing Storage yard, which is located at 7327 Old Statesville Rd. in Charlotte, NC. 28269. ( All 3 cars involved in the accident were towed). The NC Highway Patrol responded to the accident and a report was written. The local report number is 231116167HA.
I was doing around 60 mph when a guy to my right did an illegal u turn right in front of my car. The front of my car hit the driver side of his car. There was extensive damage to the front end of my car but my air bags did not go off.

The car's computer malfunctioned when parking the car and pressing the brake. The car immediately accelerated at full speed, went over the yellow median and hit a pole causing an accident in the school parking lot, the whole front left side of the car to be completely damaged, the side airbag on the driver's seat coming out, etc.
Water is leaking into the vehicle through the airbag located for the rear passenger.
1. I have had my oil changed 3 times this year and there continue to have sludge in the oil and strange noise from engine and I am very uncomfortable and afraid to drive my car. It rides funny and sometime slows on its own. 2. My airbag light has remained on and I was told they need to be replaced Please consider CheckIn for damage engine for recall repair for 2019 QX 60 Thanks
1. Airbags and seatbelt lights: The vehicle airbags light and seatbelt lights keeps flashing and after taking it to the dealer, they keep suggesting buying a new passenger seat assembly coasting thousands of dollars. Many similar complaints online with no resolutions or temporary solutions by the dealers. 2. CVT transmission problem: Vehicle jerking, and hesitating when driving. Vehicle also struggling to find the right amount of power. Dealer installed new transmission for free under extended manufacturer warranty. Problem is still there and has gotten worse. Struggling to accelerate or even lose power. Vehicle not in a drivable state with significant safety issue. Dealer insists there is nothing wrong after 3 subsequent visits after the first transmission installation. Vehicle pretty much totaled due to main component failure.
To whom this may concern. My vehicle middle console is completely out.My Radio no longer powers on.The A/C runs continuously however I’m unable to control any functions including my defrosts.therefore as the weather is getting colder I’m not able to activate the defrost so my front window fogs up clearing my view I’m able to utilize my wipers wisely.Last for not least my ABS Air bag light comes on and then continues to flash throughout my commutes.I’m not understanding why am I being told that I’ll be the one responsible for the bill..This situation was and clearly is nothing to do with my actions.
While driving on freeway , vehicle suddenly stopped without warning and came from 65 mph to 5mph in few secs. Driver seat airbags popped up. Couldn’t able to stop the vehicle and high clunky sounds while moving on freway.Oil got leaked during this incident. Incident happened on freeway 101 exit 59 in Arizona. No crash or hit.

My car hydroplaned and everything shut off. The brakes and steering wheel locked and the engine shut off. There was nothing i could do to prevent the accident. I was driving under the speed limit and was not engaged in any reckless maneuvering. I felt the car slide in an unnatural direction and when i attempted to counter correct i found the steering wheel had locked. I next tried the brakes which were also unresponsive. The vehicle slide into the center divider on the freeway and i slowly rolled to a stop. Upon coming to a stop there was a strange odor in the cabin of the car, some sort of fume. I tried the gas peddle but the engine was unresponsive as well. I was pushed off the highway by highway patrol. When the tow company showed up, the driver of the tow truck was able to start my car by bypassing the systems ignition and jump-starting it, he then drove it up onto the tow truck bed without a problem. This tells me that the brakes, power steering and engine failure was not cause by the damage of the impact but rather that the car shut itself off in mid transit. I've contacted infinite and they are refusing to run a diagnostic on the electronics to find out the cause of the failure, so i am taking matters into my own hands. I'm grateful for the center wall divider or else the car would have slid into oncoming traffic! Searching for insight and/or similar experiences form infinite car owners.
The contact owns a 2019 Infiniti QX60. The contact stated while driving at 10 MPH and exiting the carwash, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The contact depressed the brake pedal all the way to the floorboard but it failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle drove on a curb and into bushes. The contact engaged the emergency brakes and the vehicle stopped. The contact pumped the brake pedal and it rose back. The contact sustained a headache, bleeding nose, pain on the shoulder and on right knee. The contact sought medical assistance. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision repair. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that her VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V807000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,850.
Defective rear brakes & rear rotors at less then 22,000 miles on a 2025 QX60 almost causing major accident. Rotors warped & pads worn down to 1mm/2mm. Defective OEM parts used by Infiniti, refusal to cover under vehicle warranty.
The contact owns a 2024 Infiniti QX60. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer for a routine oil change, where it was discovered that the rear brake pads were worn. The request to replace the rear brake pads was declined by the contact, and the vehicle was not repaired. There were no warning lights illuminated. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
Rear brake pads need to be replaced at 20k miles.
The car lurches forward 3-5 inches when it is shifted into park. This happens regardless of flat ground or on an incline. This issue has happened since the purchase of the car in February 2023. I had the car inspected by Infiniti and they found no issues with the brakes/rotors or braking system. This happens regardless of if the parking brake is engaged or not.

*bf *bf *jb

2020 infinity qx 60 Bought car used in 2024 with 80,000. There is a hesitation when accelerating and sometimes seems to want to die when idling. There is also a knocking sound at times when accelerating. At times I feel transmission skips. When turning right or left or reversing, the wheels seem to creek and almost grind a bit. I am great about maintenance and called to determine if my vin was included in the current recalls. I am told no, but am experiencing the same symptoms described by infinity. Just want to know if there is a any action to take to ensure my 4 kids and I are always safe when traveling and dont end up with thousands in repairs.
The contact owns a 2020 Infiniti QX60. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the accelerator pedal was stuck and he had to depress the accelerator pedal to the floorboard for the pedal to release. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
COMPONENT/SYSTEM FAILURE: Timing chain and timing chain tensioner/guide assembly failure. The timing chain has stretched prematurely, causing the vehicle to fail to start, loss of acceleration response, check engine light illumination, and audible rattling noise from the engine compartment. The failed components are available for inspection upon request at the dealership. SAFETY RISK: The vehicle would not accelerate when the gas pedal was pressed, creating a dangerous situation where the vehicle could not respond to driver input. This poses a serious safety risk in traffic, highway merging, or emergency evasive situations. Additionally, the failure to start leaves occupants stranded without warning. DEALER CONFIRMATION: The problem has been diagnosed and confirmed by an authorized Infiniti dealer. The dealer determined the cause is timing chain stretching and has quoted $6,500 for repair, which includes timing chain, tensioners, and guides replacement. PRIOR WARNINGS: Approximately one week prior to complete failure, the vehicle began exhibiting a rattling noise from the engine. The check engine light illuminated. Shortly after, the vehicle would not start and would not accelerate when the gas pedal was pressed. KNOWN DEFECT: This is a documented defect. Infiniti Technical Service Bulletin ITB19-027a addresses timing chain-related diagnostic trouble codes on 2017-2024 QX60 vehicles with the VQ35DD engine. The timing chain tensioner and guide failure on VQ-series engines is a well-documented premature wear issue affecting vehicles well before expected service life. At 80,000 miles, this failure is premature and indicative of a design or manufacturing defect, not normal wear. REQUEST: I am requesting NHTSA investigate this safety defect and consider requiring a recall for affected Infiniti QX60 vehicles. Nissan/Infiniti corporate has declined goodwill assistance despite the existence of TSBs acknowledging the issue.
FEB (sensors) display on our Infiniti QX 60 dashboard - this occurred within several months when we received the car. The car was inspected by their Infiniti Repair dealer and was told the problem was solved. It was not and the same issue appeared after several miles of driving. Reported to Consumer Affairs at Infiniti and was informed its an Infiniti Dealer issue. Further electronic defects occurred as I was not able to change gear from Park to Drive. Infiniti towed the car to their Dealer and purportedly they corrected. The same issue continued and placed several more calls to Infiniti Consumer affairs. Was told "we are sorry but we cant help you". Eventually brought this issue up to the highest level at Infiniti to [XXX] - head of Nissan North America. No action yet again - and was called by an assistant and thanked me for bringing it to his attention. informed Infiniti via email to [XXX] that it can be catastrophic at Front sensors are defective and do not function.
We are reporting two safety-related concerns involving a new 2026 INFINITI QX60 Sport. At delivery, a linear abrasion approximately 42 inches in length was present across the front roof panel and was not disclosed prior to sale. When this condition was raised, the dealership dismissed it by text message without performing a physical inspection. At a later date, the dealership applied a coating or protection product over the roof panel despite the presence of visible damage and potential surface contamination. Due to the length, location, and linear nature of the abrasion across a primary roof panel, we are concerned the damage may be consistent with transport-related strap or tie-down contact, raising questions about panel integrity, corrosion protection, and the vehicle’s condition as represented at sale. We are also reporting a child safety equipment concern. The dealership applied a chemical interior or fabric protection product while child safety seats and/or booster seats remained installed in the vehicle. The seats were not removed, and no warning, consent, or disclosure was provided. Child restraint systems are federally regulated safety devices, and chemical exposure — including overspray or vapor — may affect harness webbing, foam, or material performance in a manner not evaluated under FMVSS requirements. We submit these concerns in good faith for NHTSA’s safety review and tracking.
Water is leaking into the vehicle through the airbag located for the rear passenger.
I was Driving my 2023 QX60 today down a 55 mile road. No one was in front of me and two cars were very far behind me. I was not by an overpass or a golf course and it was a clear sunny day today. I heard loud pop and then the tinkling of glass going down the backside of my car. I opened the sunroof to see what had happened and immediately closed it as the glass started falling into the car from the broken sunroof. I pulled over, and looked at the sunroof. There were no rocks, golf balls, or anything else that would’ve explained why the sunroof exploded. When I called Infiniti to see why my brand new car sunroof exploded, I was told that that the sunroof explosion happens quite a bit to these cars and it is related to “thermal stress”. This is concerning to say the least and would seem to suggest a manufacturing defect on Infiniti’s part. The car is always in the garage and it was 44° outside today. I have had at least six different cars with a sunroof and this is never happened to anyone one of them before. When researching this online, I noticed that there are several cars with the same problem. Search [XXX] and a large forum of people are describing their exact same scenarios with their QX 60’s. 2022 QX60 equipped with a Panoramic Moonroof. While in Florida 850 miles from home, I was traveling alone at about 35mph when I heard a loud explosion. It sounded like a gun shot at close range. I kept driving but observed my surroundings and there was no traffic, no construction, nothing overhead, no warning lights. When I got to my destination a couple miles away, I inspected the vehicle, fully expecting to see a bullet hole or shattered rear window from a bullet. What I found was the front moonroof had shattered and mostly still intact. It had blown up and out and not inward as it would if it were hit with a projectile. I contacted the nearest Infiniti dealer in Mobile Alabama 100 miles away, but they couldn’t look at it for at least 3 weeks. I covered the moonroof with heavy plastic and duct tape to keep the elements out of the vehicle and keep the moonroof intact as much as possible to help with Infiniti’s investigation. The cullet that had fallen into the sunshade was vacuumed up and kept also. After a tense 850 mile drive home, at times in torrential downpours, I contacted our local Infiniti dealer who wanted to inspect the vehicle. They informed me that their investigation could not determine a cause, but they did know it was not a warranty issue and denied it. I had the moonroof replaced by a local glass repair shop and then had to take it to a body shop to have the headliner dropped so cullet could be removed. I talked to numerous Infiniti representatives throughout this process, and everyone asked if I filed an insurance claim, I had not. Insurance should not have to pay for a manufacturer's defect that is still under warranty. As an Engineer for a tier one auto supplier that manufactures automotive safety glass for most major automobile companies, I can say with a high degree of certainty this was due to a manufacturer's defect or a design flaw. Due to the circumstances at the time, Nickel sulfide (NiS) inclusion is the most likely cause.
I am submitting this formal safety defect complaint regarding a serious and life-threatening incident involving my 2020 Infiniti QX60. While traveling at approximately 60 miles per hour on a public highway, the vehicle’s hood suddenly and violently flew fully open without warning. This resulted in an immediate and complete loss of forward visibility while the vehicle was in motion. The hood had been properly closed prior to driving, and there were no warning indicators, unusual noises, or prior issues suggesting a problem with the latch mechanism. This event appeared to involve a total failure of both the primary hood latch and the secondary safety latch system, which are specifically designed to prevent this type of occurrence. The incident created an extremely dangerous situation with a high risk of a catastrophic collision, serious injury, or death to myself and other motorists. I was fortunate to maintain control of the vehicle and safely slow down without a crash. This was a near-miss catastrophic event caused by a critical safety system failure. A hood opening at highway speed creates total loss of visibility and represents a severe hazard to roadway safety. The vehicle is currently being preserved without repair so that the failure can be properly evaluated. I am reporting this incident so it can be investigated for potential design, manufacturing, or mechanical defects that could affect other drivers. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The left rear side window rolled down and won’t roll back up and made clicking sound causing both safety issue driving my kids in a stormy day. I tried to open the door and it opens only 10 percent . I had to go from the other door to get my kid out the car. I owned the car 4 years now and I’m the only owner . I took it to the dealer and they opened the door replaced the window regulator and motor. This a faulty make from manufacture that I End up paying for about $1200 . They refused to cover for it because warranty expired in January 2024 but I only have 51000 miles on it. I had similar car window not rolling back on driver side 2 years ago and they said it was a recall.
When a person leans on the door and at least 200lbs of pressure is applied to the driver's door, in drive, the door will open and all the locks in the car will release.
Driving the vehicle with the sunroof open and it made a loud noise sounding like a gun shot. The loud gun shot noise occurred a second time then the glass in the roof just exploded.

This vehicle has ~43k miles and in the shop 3 times. Once I had computer issues and was replaced, and twice now to replace the fuel pump. First instance, I was at a stop sign and tried to accelerate but the car wouldn't move. It was like it was in neutral but was in drive. I had to shut car down, restart and was able to get to the dealership. Second time, I left work driving ~73 mph on [XXX] in Jacksonville Florida when out of nowhere I could feel the gas not taking. I then got a flashing message across my dashboard several times that said "Engine Stalled" . Imagine the fear in the middle of the highway and essentially having no gas power. Fortunately, since I was leaving at noon, it was not rush hour and fortunately this occurred right before an exit. I was able to remain calm and not panic and get over two lanes in time to pull off to an exit ramp all the while de-accelerating until I landed in the grass off the exit ramp. I cross [XXX] every day for work and cars losing power going 75 mph on [XXX] is terrifying and could easily lead to a wreck and in the most unfortunate incidents on that bridge; cars hit have gone over the side. Again, second time now they are supposedly replacing the fuel pump. How can two be bad? This is so dangerous for someone to be put in this situation. I have seen other posts on the Internet with fuel pump issues on the 2023 QX60 and similar circumstances. Car is in the shop now so don't have the receipt yet for the replacement. While driving my qx60 with my wife and 8month baby inside, car stalled twice on feb 15th and March 22nd , felt like it had an empty fuel tank , car stopped in traffic , had to pull baby, my wife and I to shoulder and leave vehicle stopped in traffic with emergency lights on ,call for a tow truck , car would start and die immediately , car only has 21000 miles Check engine light on with codes : P0090 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Circuit P0087 Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low Went to local dealership and service agent mentioned it was fuel pump, that many of these pumps are going bad for these new cars, I also research online forums and this seems to be an issue with the fuel pump on these cars. The replaced my fuel pump today March 31st , but not sure if they use same defective pump , probably since they won’t say I contacted Infiniti consumer affairs and file a case ,mainly asking what is Infiniti doing regarding all these fuel pumps that are failing? , is the same fuel pump getting installed when the original fails ? Why isnt there a recall for this? The lady who called me didn’t know what to say other than recalls don’t depend on us but on the NHTSA , that’s why I’m filing complaint today
On two occasions driving new 2023 QX60, the engine stalled while driving. Vehicle lost all acceleration capability. The system message: stop car, engine stall. Press break and start button. In the summer of 2022 (I think Aug) car was stalling when stopped to make a turn. The check engine light flashed but never stayed on after the 1st incident. Brought it to a dealer and was told that the car was fine. Drove it for another two weeks and the same thing happened and no warning lights appeared. Brought it back to the dealer and was diagnosed with faulty fuel injectors after this 2nd visit. I believe all of the fuel injectors were replaced. In May of 2023 car sounded as if it was going to stall again when stopped in traffic. Happened again in early July and again last week. Today, when I was driving the car sounded as if it was going to stall/jerking. No warning lights came on in any of these scenarios. Todays incident is very concerning since this happened while I was driving between 40-50mph. Since May I have brought this car to two different dealers 3x and they can’t find anything wrong. Safety issues when idling and now when driving. It’s not a consistent issue and is unpredictable, which makes it even more concerning. I called a dealer today and was told not to bring it in since no warning lights came on and they already checked the car about two weeks ago. Was advised to drive the car in sport mode for a week to see if this makes a difference. I do a lot of driving and I’m afraid to be on major highways and driving late at night. I now have to make sure that I drive in a lane that has a shoulder in case I need to pull over.
Car just stalls or cuts out and loses power. Dealership says it’s not pulling any codes.
The vehicle is accelerating and braking randomly without my control.
I purchased this vehicle as a new vehicle. Shortly after purchasing the vechicle i began to hear rattling and noises. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they refused to offer assistance. The manufacturer did assist. They sent an inspector in to review the vehicle and they gave me compensation for my numerous service visits. However the rattling remains. Additionally the driver seat moves back and forth and mg gas tank is loose.

Can a Infiniti QX60 tow? Towing & payload
As an SUV, the Infiniti QX60 is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package.
What sets your QX60's tow & payload rating:
- Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
- Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
- Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
- Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.
Exact towing capacity, payload and GVWR are added per engine, drivetrain and trim — decode your VIN above, or check the driver's door-jamb and hitch labels. Curb weight from vehicle specifications.
How much does a Infiniti QX60 cost to own?
A Infiniti QX60 tends to depreciate faster than average. A typical example keeps roughly 37% of its value after five years — losing about 63% to depreciation. Fuel, maintenance and insurance add to the total cost to own.
| Age | Value retained | Est. resale value | Lost to depreciation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | 75% | — | — |
| Year 2 | 63% | — | — |
| Year 3 | 53% | — | — |
| Year 4 | 44% | — | — |
| Year 5 | 37% | — | — |
What goes into the five-year cost to own:
- Depreciation — the biggest cost: this QX60 loses about 63% of its value over five years.
- Fuel — ≈ $12,000 over five years at roughly 15,000 miles a year.
- Maintenance & repairs — routine service, tires and wear items as the QX60 ages.
- Insurance — varies by driver, state and trim; get a quote for your exact figure.
Resale & depreciation are ForCar estimates from typical segment value-retention curves — not a live market quote. Fuel from EPA fueleconomy.gov at ~15k mi/yr.
