How to read a Infiniti QX80 VIN — every digit explained
Every Infiniti QX80 carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this QX80.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your QX80 VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Electrical System 24 Read
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Two components have failed: the infotainment/Apple CarPlay system, including the USB-C connectivity port, and the front collision detection/crash sensor system. The entire A/V unit was replaced on August 1, 2025, yet the infotainment defect persisted. Both systems are currently installed in my vehicle and are available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The front collision detection system malfunction directly compromises my ability to rely on the vehicle's built-in safety features to prevent or mitigate crashes. Additionally, the infotainment screen has frozen and reset while the vehicle was in motion. I have also been locked out of my vehicle twice while the engine was running, which created a dangerous situation. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. On July 25, 2025, a technician at Georgetown Infiniti attempted and failed to connect their own phone to the CarPlay system, confirming the defect was in the vehicle and not my personal device. The collision system malfunction has been documented across multiple service visits at both Georgetown Infiniti and Grubbs Infiniti. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes. The vehicle has been inspected and serviced by authorized Infiniti dealerships, specifically Grubbs Infiniti and Georgetown Infiniti, both of which are manufacturer-authorized service centers. Most recently addressed 2/4/20226. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The infotainment screen displayed warning messages, froze, and reset while driving. The front collision system displayed malfunction warnings on the dashboard.
Camera monitoring system or rear visibility system. The rearview/backup camera has intermittently malfunctioned in my QX80 numerous times since I purchased the car in February 2024, including (1) displaying a frozen image from the backup camera when putting the car in reverse which stayed frozen (for example, did show a car driving directly behind me which I almost hit) and displayed the frozen image to the driver the entire time driving the car, including at highway speeds, and which could not be manually removed from view (including by pressing the camera button); and (2) the backup camera not turning on at all when the QX80 is put in reverse, not could the backup camera be turned on manually by pushing the camera button. I attached some photos of the frozen rearview/backup camera which remained displayed to the driver the entire time driving the car, including while traveling on the interstate at highway speeds (65 mph) when the photos were taken attached below. The date below is the date of the photo, however backup camera malfunctions has occurred numerous times and dates. I also have numerous videos of the malfunctions described herein that I can also share.
forward collision light came on for fours hours display blinks on and off press buttons on display or open various apps on smart phone and music stops playing wireless DVD player doesn't come on or work The electronics in the suv is faulty and not perdicable
Full system fault on the center stack display. The unit turns off completely and/or resets continuously. The rear parking camera, audio, navigation, etc. is affected when this issue occurs.
Ongoing failure to start, multiple battery replacements in less than 2 years. Purchased a warranty and of course the vehicle will not replicate its failure to start when it is at the dealership for the warranty claims adjustor to review. Car has had to be towed to the dealership with no resolution even after being there multiple times. Dashlights have gone dim - issues with multiple lights coming on. Dash on order - been waiting months now with no update on when the new dash will arrive. Multiple TSB's have been issued regarding the issues mentioned - TSB ITB19-034b TSB MC-10239504 with no resolution. Infiniti is aware of these issues and has only offered to bypass "jump out" or bypass of the IPDM (Intelligent Power Distribution Module), noting that this action would void my warranty related to that specific issue. This is unacceptable. Infiniti serviced my vehicle in August and September no issues with the battery - but then it failed in October. A new battery had to be purchased in Oct after a visit by AAA.
Something keeps killing my battery. There’s no lights that come on to indicate a problem. I’ve been stranded twice at work and now today, I get ready to leave and the battery is dead again!! I’ve gotten a new battery three times in a year’s time. I’ve searched for a recall because I see where others are having the same problem, but apparently there’s not one. Hopefully, the dealership will have some answers tomorrow.
I have had this vehicle for a little over a year and since april, i have been stranded in different places. The reason is because i would go to get in my car and the battery was completely dead. The first time this happened, the dealership said it was a recall issue that they claimed to fix. This happened again 3 months later, at night with my baby at the grocery store. I went to get into my car and battery was dead yet again. Took it the dealership and they tried to tell me it was my fault because i don't drive it enough. Mind you, i drive my vehicle every single day to work and to daycare etc. After fighting with them for a week, they finally fixed it, or so i thought. Today, i went to my sons soccer game and guess what, battery dead yet again! I have never in my life had an issue like this. This is an 80,000 vehicle and completely unacceptable to have had this happen 3 times in 6 months. I bought this car for safety purposes for me and my baby, and it is literally the exact opposite of what i needed. I have been stranded with my baby 3 times!!! This vehicle is an absolute joke and i beg anyone reading this to never purchase it! I will be speaking to an attorney regarding lemon laws. I want my money back and i will never purchase an infiniti again.
My wife is in quarantine with our daughter in oregon. Drives the qx80 every 2 or 3 days, to go to the store for food. Qx80 started up just fine, drove it to the store and parked it. 35 minutes later, came out of the store with perishable groceries, the battery was too weak to start it. Had to be jump started. Seeing that others are having the same issue. Called the dealership about the issue. They claim there is a recent recall that may help with the issue. No recall in the system, but notices from infiniti service on this possible fix of reprogramming an electrical module. Per the last complaint, it doesn't fix it. I called the dealership, they are aware of the issue. I was told that due to all the electronics in the car, there is a large draw on the battery from electronics and a lot needed for start up. Was told the qx80 has to be driven for like 30 minutes after you start it up, just to charge the battery for what draw it took to start the engine. Also being told the qx80 is not meant to sit without being driven for a week or longer, as this can cause the battery to drain enough it will not start. So i used the example that i cannot leave the qx80 at the airport if i was flying out and going on vacation for a week. They recommended that i do not do that. Also recommended that if the qx80 is going to sit for several days, that i can purchase and hook up a battery charger/maintainer to the battery. This was not something told to me when i bought it, did not read it in any vehicle info. Purchased a $90k vehicle and i have to pop the hood, run an extension cord to and depend on a $40 battery charger to keep it running. This is not acceptable for any vehicle. If i wanted a vehicle that i had to constantly plug in and charge, i would have purchased an electric car.
I have been stranded numerous times with this vehicle. Some battery gremlin or electrical gremlin. Brought to the shop and they said there was a recall that was fixed. I went to the store 2 days later , came out with $400 worth of groceries and go to start my truck and nothing . Blinking flashing electric glitching . It took 15 minutes of just trying to jump it off!!! Annoying and dangerous !! Obviously the recall is not fixing the issue with this truck .
On three occasions the battery in my 2019 qx80 has died for no apparent reason. The car is a 2019 and the battery died 8 months, 10 months and now 13 months after purchasing it brand new. Each time the car has driven fine in the morning on my way to work but when i tried to turn it on to head home it didn't start. I was initially told it was a bad battery and then told it was an alternator issue. I have two young children and am now scared to drive them in our family vehicle out of fear of being stranded again.

I have been saying that my vehicle is a safety hazard since April 2022. I have had it to the dealer 4x since then in addition to opening up several cases with Inifiniti Customer Service, but nobody has been able to protect my family and I and remedy the situation. At times the vehicle will not accelerate even when I push the gas all the way down. Then it will kick in and surge forward. I also have told them that at times it feels as if someone has rear ended me. There is a recall out there for cars manufactured through April 2020, but mine was manufactured in September 2020. Infiniti's recall is #R21A3 and the NHTSA ID is 21V373. I have experienced the same exact symptoms as those covered under this recall. Now Inifiniti is telling me that my transmission needs to be replaced as a result of metal shavings in the oil. Again, this could all have been caused by this fuel pump issue which was on their radar in 2021 and 2022 when I brought my car in the first time. Infiniti has failed to help me in every step of the way beginning with their Service Tech not fixing the issue back in 2022 through 2024 when I have consistently expressed my concerns while the car was still under warranty.
This is a 2021 Vehicle, and beginning in April of 2022, I have been telling my dealer that there is something wrong, but they haven't been able to fix it. When I am driving, there are times when the car will fail to accelerate. Also at times it feels like I have been rear ended and the car lurches. I have said this is a safety issue and neither the dealer nor Inifiniti Customer Consumer Affairs have taken this seriously and remedied the situation. They all say there is nothing they can do. I have taken it to the dealer 6 times and opened up a case with Infiniti back in 2024 with no resolution.
This car has the SAME issue as explained in NHTSA Bulletin ITB17-008c for 2017-2018 year Infiniti QX80's but Infiniti will not diagnose and fix. Instead they are seeking nearly $4k in repair work. The torque converter should last up to 200k miles and my car started having this issue around 65k miles. Ive escalated to Infiniti HQ and they will not listen to my complaint and continually are telling me there is not a recall. This recall needs to be put into place for model year 2019, the issue is NOT fixed!
Made a right hand turn and vehicle shut off in traffic barley got into turn lane and vehicle died in the middle of the road, just got lucky a state trooper was behind us to hold traffic off.. would not restart no power, dead battery, put a jumper on the vehicle and it started enough to get out of immediate danger. After replacing a burned up alternator and battery twice it was found the battery current sensor was bad.
This is a very common and well-known issue with 2017 Infiniti QX 80 Vin number [XXX] The car RPMs flutter between 1000 RPMs to 2500 RPMs due to the TCM and EC M/ECU TCU failure to the transmission causing terrible gas mileage vehicle stalls in traffic which can cause accidents and has happened over 10 times to me I have called and reported this as well with you all Infiniti will not earn up to the fact that there is a fault and needs to replace the TCU/ECU/ECM/TCM in order to fix the issue I have an extended warranty and I’ve had to pay infinity dealership over $800 now for three different times for them to reflash these modules which does not correct the problem for longer than a week going back to the same issue it’s been an ongoing problem since we have them in the vehicle and I believe if this is investigated you will find that this is a common issue with almost every Infiniti QX 80 2017 and also some more year makes and models please investigate so consumers can be helped with this issue it’s also a safety concern as yes the vehicle needs acceleration in order to avoid a collision is not possible due to lack of power because the TCM and ECM is not communicating in order to downshift to give the power to the vehicle to get out of the way of a collision I have almost gotten into a wreck several times in stop and go traffic between the Rpm’s listed which are between 1020 500 RPMs as well as gas mileage has cut in half due to this issue and sometimes shifting we get stuck in one year or the other which normally is a higher gear therefore has no power to go we need it sometimes I have to turn the car off at stop signs or stop light in order to restore it so I did not cause a rear end collision by somebody running into me NHTSA serviced bulletin- consumers have to pay for Ben though know issue infiniti won’t take responsibility Reference: Date: AT17-002a ITB17-008a April 18, 2017 2017 QX80SHIFT SHOCK, LACK OF POWER, AND/OR RPM FLUCTUATES INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I tried to open the back of the vehicle and i could not since i did not press long enough. Then i tried to do the same from inside the vehicle but again i could not since again i did not hold the button long enough(i bought this vehicle for my wife and i was driving it for the second time due to snow). I thought maybe i should turn off the vehicle and try again since my logic was if the truck is running due to safety reason the back door might not be opening. As soon as i turned off the car with it started to roll backwards since it was on slight slope. Our 3 daughters were nearby and i was scared they might be near the back side but thank god they were on side of the truck. I kept running with the truck till i can get in it and stop it. I got hurt on my knees and blood started to come but i was lucky enough to stop it. I want infiniti to look into this issue asap since i don"t want anyone hurt or even worse. It is 2017 infiniti qx80. See attached video.thank you. (xxxx) owner of the vehicle. Returning home from a trip to birmingham, al on sunday apr 29th, 2018 and noticed the air was no longer cooling in the car. Made an appointment with infiniti to take the car in to be checked out on monday apr 30. Upon getting car checked out was told that a rock allegedly went through the grill, some how missed all the other components in the car and hit the condenser/coolant line and caused all the freon to run out of the car. Mind you the car has not been in any accidents and you can hear if your car is it by a rock and none of that has happened. Some family friends with the same car had the same issue with their car and was told it was hit by a rock also. How likely is that to happen, need to investigate infiniti for poor coolant lines and charging customers for items that should be under warranty. Was told repairs will cost $1200 and car is still under warranty with less than 21000 miles. Called infiniti to complain as others have and was only given a reference number and to wait for a callback. Others have been made to pay for repairs and this is happening way too often and infiniti needs to step up and own their defective part and stop passing the expense on to customers. Shame on them. Poor customer service and customer relations.
While in motion on a highway on the way to our summer vacation, our brand new infiniti qx80 started smoking from under the hood and the air conditioner went out. After having the car towed back to the dealership (and getting a taxi to take us to a rental car place) we were told that the vehicle had come from the factory with an oil cooler water hose that was 2 inches longer than standard, causing the hose to rub against the cooling fan blade and severing it causing all coolant to leak. Infiniti will not reimburse us for rental car costs, despite the cause being factory defect. *tr
The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti QX80. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving approximately 20-25 MPH, the vehicle lost power, the engine revved abnormally, and the transmission failed to shift as intended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The most glaring safety issue caused by below is the SUV will try to move forward on its own while stopped and the brakes pressed that can potentially cause a fender bender. Infiniti/Nissan 5.6L engines have a history of failed or failing viscous cooling fan clutches. This goes back over a decade based on the TSG released by NISMO. When the viscous fan begins to fail, the most glaring symptom is that ECM will compensate by revving up the engine RPM...specially with the AC on. This can cause the RPM to go from around 500 to 1000 RPM during an RPM surge. The surge is enough to move the SUV forward at a stop unless the brake is firmly pressed. On hot weather days, this risk is frequent and significant at a top. This viscous fan issue also puts signficant load on the engine and causes significant power loss to the drive train. This issue does not cause any type of "check engine" light since it is strictly a mechanical failure of the mechanism containing the fluids in the viscous assembly.

While driving approximately 38-40 mph, the driver of an oncoming vehicle failed to yield the right of way and crashed into the driver's side door and driver's side front fender of the contact's vehicle. The driver's frontal air bag deployed; however, the side curtain air bags failed to deploy. The contact also stated that the seat belt failed to restrain him from moving forward. The contact sustained a concussion. The contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. A local dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,400. *dt*jb
2/28/2023 was driving on freeway during a Rainey night truck suddenly spurned out of control were i could not control the wheel truck hydroplaned in to the center divider of the freeway and crashed in to the wall when the front driver side air bag never deployed but the passenger side air bag did did deployed all side passenger air bags were deployed .. but no driver side air bag deployment at all witch i suffered lots of bruising to upper body and lower body /face and head ...
A lady driving a Honda Fit pulled out in front of my wife while she was driving her Infinity QX80. My wife was driving about 40-45 MPH at the time of the crash. The driver at fault in the Honda Fit I noticed all air bags deployed. My wife's QX80 had none of the air bags deployed. The officers at the scene were shocked to see the amount of damage to my wife's QX80 while not triggering the air bags to be deployed. One in particular told us to make sure we reported this to the insurance company.
My vehicle is one oil change past the bumper to bumper warranty or 4000 miles. Air bag light is on. My regular mechanic took to dealer. Dealer said they see this problem all the time. Told us that in an accident the bags would not deploy and repair is more than $5000! We contacted Nissan north America. Extremely rude employee said too bad as vehicle was out of warranty. Said "maybe" could have done something if we had serviced vehicle at dealer instead of private shop but too bad. Explained that mechanic at dealership said this is a common problem and he was surprised it is not a recall. She told me well it isn't so that is that. She refused to give me to her boss. "We don't do that" .

The air bag light started flashing. The only thing that I did was have the vehicle oil change and air filters changed. Per the warranty Air Bags are excluded. If the airbags have not deployed or been serviced, there would be no reason to blink unless defective. It costs $2500 for a possible fix and if that doesn’t solve the problem it will cost for the next step and so on. Why is this not a manufacturer issue?
The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti QX 80. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the front passenger’s side air bag deployed without warning or impact. The driver was able to park the vehicle and after exiting the vehicle, the remaining air bags deployed. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
The passenger air bag system is apparently designed to disarm when a "small adult or child" sits in the passenger seat. This means each time my wife sits in the passenger seat (she is approx. 120lbs,) the passenger air bag light illuminates and the air bag is disarmed. This then renders one of the key safety features inoperable, and she and I feel very unsafe in the car. However, my research tells me that it is designed to be that way. How can that be legal or permissible? This design is deeply flawed and should be addressed immediately. She should not be endangered purely due to her being the weight she is. Not all Americans are over weight. No other car I own or have owned ever did that, only this Infiniti, and apparently all other Infiniti's.
My battery died and needed a jump start. Shortly after jump starting my vehicle, the airbag light began flashing. The Infiniti dealership in Milwaukee is quoting $3900 to fix this which seems crazy. I don't know if the airbag will even deploy if I get into accident.
Airbag light keeps coming on and we take it in to be serviced and they say hey it shows low voltage so we tighten down your battery and that fixed it. Then we drive 100 miles and it's back on. Took it to a different dealer and they said the same thing. Another few hundred miles airbag light is on again. Putting my families lives in danger. When we bought this vehicle from Carmax that the same issue and took over 6 weeks before we could pick it up.

Fuel gauge erratically and inaccurately showing different levels of fuel- sometimes full, empty or anywhere in between. Potential risk of running out of gas and not knowing. Recalls are listed for other vehicle model years but not this one. No warning messages appear on dashboard. First noticed the problem Feb 2025 and continues to worsen. It has not been seen by a mechanic or dealership yet since first experiencing.
Went to start car after it was sitting over night (and temperature had dropped) and it would not start, requiring a jump. Nothing was left on overnight. Car required jump start two more times until i was able to take to dealer. I was told it was a defective battery and battery was exchanged. Three weeks later, after stopping for gas at 5am on way to work, car would not start again. Again nothing has been left on. Car is currently dead in my driveway. It is a 2019! Also, the door covering my gas cap no longer opens, requiring it to be pried open.
I purchased a 2016 qx80 last week. After filling my car with fuel, within 10 minutes, my gas gauge went from full, to down 3/4 of a tank of gas. After only 50 miles of driving, with no air conditioning on, i'm at 1/2 of a tank according to my fuel gauge. There is absolutely no way that can be correct.
There is a strong smell of gas on the driver side after I have been driving. Other innfinity QX80 owners reported online with the same model, that this is in fact a recall issue for this make and model, and year. However when i call Infinity, they say they cant find anything on my car. it is not?? however your website clearly lists it as a problem for this particular car?? what do i do next.
I have come to notice that when I put gas in my 2015 Infiniti (V8 engine vehicles only), QX80 vehicles. The fuel pressure sensors may not have been sufficiently tightened during production. As a result, the fuel pressure sensor may loosen with vehicle usage and cause a fuel leak.
I have been noticing intermittent gasoline smell outside of vehicle. It has been smelling stronger and more often so I decided to inspect it for the second. I removed the carpet and fuel pump cover and discovered the fuel pump is leaking gas. Now I cannot drive vehicle due to gasoline leaking every time the ignition is on. It is a serious safety and fire hazard. I have not contacted the dealer because it is not under warranty.

I purchased a 2015 Infiniti QX80 on March 31, 2021. Since the purchase, I have only driven it approximately 6,000 miles and the check engine light has already come on. I took it to the dealership and they stated that both Catalytic Converters need to be replaced. This vehicle is only 6 years old; it should not need both Catalytic Converters replaced. Upon research, I discovered that there was a recall on 11/28/2014 for certain 2014-2015 Infiniti Q80 vehicles. My vehicle was not part of this recall, however, I know it should have been because I believe this is the reason for the Catalytic Converter failures on my car. This vehicle has an issue with uncontrolled acceleration when i first take off. With my brake pedal applied the engine rpm is approx. 550, which is in specs. As soon as i release the brakes the rpm jumps to 1100 rpm and the vehicle takes off on it's on. My vehicle has been to the dealer twice for this problem and they say they can't help me, my first experience i almost rear ended the vehicle in front of me. This an issue that needs addressed. Street conditions, weather conditions don't make a difference, and has done it since i purchased it.

I was driving down back street and applied brakes due to a stop sign ahead of me and my vehicle did not stop. I was in total shock at the time of the accident and could not believe i rear ended another vehicle. The date of the accident was 2/9/2018. After speaking with two of my other friends weeks later. My friend that owner a nissan murano rear ended another car when she applied the brakes. My other friend who owns an infinity had her vehicle in the shop for braking problems. To me this seems a little ironic if you ask me. *dsy
The brakes automatically engage without cause. The problem occurs at both city and highway speeds, from 20-75 mph. It is particularly bad when passing underneath a bridge. The car will abruptly stop. This has been ongoing for monthes. Sometimes, the vehicle will act inappropriately when the brake is applied by the driver. The car will attempt to accelerate. Other times the car will hard brake as if slamming the brakes.
The 2019 qx80 forward emergency breaking system (feb) continuously engages the brakes without warning or an obstruction. Always while a railroad crossing is in site, sometimes when a redlight is near but (green) with no vehicles stopped at it. It has also done it on an open highway & interstate at speeds of 70 mph with nothing around. This causes a very real chance of being rear-ended, or starteling the driver into crashing.
2019 infinity qx80 limited 4 x 4--faulty automatic breaking system!!! Car would emit a beep beep beeeeeep and then the auto braking system would engage and cause the car to come to an abrupt stop. This occurred within the first 1000 miles of driving and continued for the duration of ownership. The car stopped on the freeway access road (35 mph), state highway 6 (50 mph) in rush hour traffic...., sienna parkway (45 mph), 290 (65 mph) and turning into driveway (5 mph). It was inconsistent, and there were no obstructions (moving or sedentary) to cause the sensors to initiate the brakes. It was very dangerous. I am writing this safety complaint, as i have concerns that nissan is not required to report issues if they do a voluntary buy back. We initiated a lemon law claim with nissan north america. They were professional and quick to respond. They bought the car back exactly one year from the date of purchase. The vehicle had 14,000 miles and was in impeccable condition. I worry that someone else may buy the vehicle and/or the issue may go un-reported. I had a problem finding any similar complaints, with exception to the mass recall of the rogue in canada for what appears to be a similar issue (same parent company). Additionally, the 2020 model was released and did look to address other issues with the vehicle (screen/technology), but not sure if they safety issue regarding the brakes engaging on their own was addressed.
Automatic emergency braking system phantom braking; Several different times now, on the road; at low speed causing sudden stopping in traffic; after pulling over the emergency stopping system turned off but the transmission locked up in one gear; drive on in a fixed gear and after several miles transmission unlocked and vehicle returned to normal; Have not gone to dealer No components have been inspected; Engine light came on and then later turned off when it began running correctly again. I am writing to report serious safety concerns regarding my 2017 Infiniti QX80. The vehicle has exhibited two primary issues: 1. Unintended Braking: The vehicle has a tendency to suddenly and unexpectedly brake, particularly when driving over specific road surfaces, such as brick-paved intersections. This behavior is extremely dangerous as it can lead to accidents, especially in high-traffic areas. Such abrupt braking can cause the vehicle to lurch forward, potentially leading to rear-end collisions. 2. Frequent Battery Drain and Failure: The vehicle's battery drains rapidly, requiring frequent replacement. Despite multiple visits to the dealership and attempts at repair, the issue persists. This problem significantly compromises the vehicle's reliability and can leave the driver stranded, particularly in emergency situations. I have taken the vehicle to an authorized Infiniti dealership multiple times to address these issues. While the dealership has attempted repairs, the problems have persisted. The frequency and severity of these issues pose a significant safety risk to myself and other drivers. I urge the NHTSA to investigate these issues and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all 2017 Infiniti QX80 owners.
I had my infinity 2016 qx 80 for 6 months and the breaks went out to the floor. I was only going over a speed hump, luckily. I pulled over and the caliper was against the inside of the rim. I was told the pin fell out. Very dangerous!
We have had several issues with our vehicle. It has been to the dealership 3 times since november 20, 2019. The first time we took the vehicle into the dealership, it was due to it bogging down. This happened when the vehicle was in motion and in both the city and interstate. The worst time, was when we were on the interstate driving around 70 miles an hour and went to accelerate to pass a vehicle. The vehicle bogged down and would not accelerate. It was taken to the dealership and they could not duplicate the problem. They updated the computer software and we were told this should resolve the problem. We picked up the vehicle on 9/23/19 and the vehicle immediately began to demonstrate the same problems. The vehicle was returned to the dealership on 9/25/19. At this time, mr. Junot rode with a technician and was able to duplicate the problem. The repined the ecm connector and cleared all the codes. We were able to pick up the vehicle on 10/3/19. The vehicle continued to drive sluggish and bog down. On 10/15/19, the customer was driving the vehicle in the city, when it began accelerating on its own and the steering and brakes locked up. She was able to put the car into park and coast into a parking lot. The dealership was called on 10/16/19 and we were told to bring the car in on 10/17/19. They were not able to duplicate the problem and called in a dst specialist. We were told that he would not be at the dealership until monday, november 18th. [xxx]. Met him at the dealership that morning. He talked to the dst and reviewed all the issues we have had. We did not receive a call from the dst and received an email from infiniti stating that they could not duplicate the problem, so they replaced the battery. My husband had to call to get the details of the report. We were told we could pick up the vehicle on 10/21/19. New QX80 should be taken off the road. The Infotainment system is the central computer system to the car. Countless times where the system reboots WHILE DRIVING yielding electronics cluster (Speed control, Heads up Display, etc) blacked out. Upon "reboot", the stereo system is blaring loud, without ability to turn down volume, creating a dangerous driving environment. Only resolution, to date, is to press and hold for 10-15 seconds the powerbutton to shutoff. Having to do this while driving is dangerous. Other isntances where the car pneumatic suspension system - connected to said infotainment system - faults and creates the car to go up/down while driving. This is similar to a friend who has the same exact car, who's having the same exact issues. There is no resolution. This car NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD UNTIL INFINITI CAN PROVE STABLE COMPUTER FUNCTIONALITY. IT WILL CREATE ACCIDENTS/DEATH. This has happened numerous times. Photo is from most recent after driving "blind" on the cluster back to our driveway to take a picture.
The cruise control is very abrupted when engaging the resume feature. The cruise will cause the transmission to downshift and engine to rev above 5000 rpms for just a couple of mph speed increase. I believe this a design flaw that could cause a driver to lose control of the car.
The cruise control does not work going down a hill. It works on a level road. It works going up a hill. I set it at say 50 mph on us route 30, boswell, pa going down a hill and without applying the brakes the vehicle would be going 60 mph at the bottom of the hill. This is dangerous. Dealer told me not to use the cruise control going down a hill!

Driving down a city street at about 25-30 mph with no cars in close proximity in front of vehicle. Heard three quick beeps and then the car suddenly stopped in the middle of the street. Moved foot from gas peddle to the brake to find the brake to the floor. No injuries or damage was sustained. The vehicle was driven directly to the dealer where they can not duplicate the problem. Infiniti consumer affairs department was contacted. They agreed with dealer that it could not be duplicated. Could not tell us if similar complaints have been filed regarding the feb safety feature of the qx80. *tr
I was a passenger in my infiniti qx80 going about 25 +/- . There were 3 beeps and the car suddenly breaked on its own in the middle of the street. I looked up to find nothing in front of us. The driver said the car breaked suddenly on its own! Her foot was on the gas peddle and when she reacted by going for the break it was already to the floor. There was absolutely no reason for this emergency collision feature to go off. Luckily there was no one close enough behind us to rearend us, although i'm certain the driver wondered why we slammed on our breaks in the middle of the street. Thankfully we had already got off of i80 where our speeds ranged up to 70 mph. The dealership currently has the car and claims they can not find any issues, i'm fearful of getting behind the wheel and taking any chances of it happening again. The general manager asked if it were raining hard when the incident occurred.....this makes me even less confident in this safety feature. The other suggestion was an object in the road. If the feb is et off by rain or a small object in the road that is not visible to the eye, that is not a safety feature,

I am submitting a safety complaint regarding the driver assistance system (ProPILOT Assist) in my 2024 Infiniti QX80. The behavior of this system creates a potentially dangerous driving condition. When ProPILOT Assist is engaged, the vehicle consistently delays braking until the last possible moment, then applies sudden and aggressive braking rather than smooth deceleration. This creates a high risk of rear-end collisions, especially in moderate to heavy traffic where gradual speed adjustments are expected. In addition, the lane-keeping function appears unstable. The vehicle tends to drift or “hug” one side of the lane instead of maintaining a centered position. At highway speeds, the system makes abrupt and overly aggressive steering corrections, even when the vehicle is already within lane boundaries and at a safe following distance. These sudden inputs feel unnatural and reduce driver confidence, requiring constant manual correction. Overall, the system behavior is unpredictable and does not align with reasonable expectations for a driver assistance feature. Instead of enhancing safety, it introduces unnecessary risk by combining delayed braking with aggressive steering inputs. This issue occurs under normal driving conditions on clearly marked roads and does not appear to be an isolated event. Given the size and weight of the QX80, these system responses could lead to serious accidents if not addressed. I request that this issue be investigated, as it presents a significant safety concern for drivers and others on the road.

Vehicle aggressively and without cause engaged the Automatic Emergency Braking System causing the driver to be slammed against her seat belt and almost having the car in back of us to almost rear end our vehicle. This has happened in the past but it has been a manageable slight deceleration when going around a gentle curve or at the railroad overpass. . This time the incident was intense almost causing a rear end collision. I would add that this severe incident happened when approaching the same railroad overpass in the rain. This has also happened at this intersection in good weather. Under all circumstances there were no obstructions I front of the vehicle. I have read that this problem has occurred in earlier years of Nissan products. In all instances the appropriate system warning light illuminated.
Four or five times in the last 12 months
I live in a state where it is required to have both front and back plates. When I got my 2016 QX80 it did not have official front plate mounting so I bought a kit and installed the front license plate. Since then I have not had a working sensor. The front collision sensor states there’s an obstruction. I can no longer use cruise control or the front collision safety sensor because the front sensor was brilliantly placed where the plate needs to be installed. Poor design.

As an SUV, the Infiniti QX80 is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package, on a curb weight near 5,948 lb.
What sets your QX80's tow & payload rating:
- Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
- Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
- Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
- Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.
