Component malfunctioned: Power Transfer Unit (PTU); Safety risk: failure risks loss of drive power of the vehicle, putting driver and surrounding individuals at risk; Problem reproduced: Yes - dealer; Component inspected: Yes - dealer; Messages: Yes - SVC 4WD. Upon purchasing the vehicle, I was informed that the PTU fluid is not meant to be changed - that it is meant to be "lifetime". However, at 8 years and 56,000 miles, I am now informed that the PTU is failing because the fluid was never changed. Thus, instead of a simple, cheap fluid change service, I now need to pay around $5,000 for the dealer to change out the entire PTU. 8 years and 56,000 is far from "lifetime" but it just outside of the warranty so I have to pay for this out of pocket despite Jeep claiming that the PTU fluid is not meant to be changed. This is so common of a problem that the PTU part needed to complete this repair is not only out of stock at all dealers, there is a long queue for obtaining the part. This is costing me not just extra repair money but also impacting my daily life as I am out of a vehicle for much longer due to having to wait for an available part. I now also have to pay for other modes of transportation while also being overall limited on my ability to complete daily responsibilities. Clearly, if the PTU fluid is meant to be "lifetime", as I was informed it was meant to be when I purchased the vehicle, it is consistently defective since so many Jeep owners are dealing with this problem. Consumers should not be the one footing the bill for this Jeep defect.

This is one of the cars that does not fail under the PTU recall. It currently has the exact issue as the recall but my vin is not in the recall. They performed the reprogramming which has not fix the issue. This and others should be included in the current recall due to the exact same issue and model year. This was bought because it’s 4wd and this is now not useable while others are having them repaired by Jeep. This car has not been able at times to engage in park the 4wd service is on and the ptu code is on. Thank you

The contact stated that there was oil leaking from the vehicle. The contact stated that there was a failure with the gear shifter. The contact stated that the vehicle slipped out of gear unexpectedly. The vehicle was turned off and restarted. During research, the contact located NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who determined that the oil gasket and oil housing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was placed on a waiting list. The contact was informed that an email would be sent when parts were available. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

Power train failure while driving confirmed by dealer in February 2025 - 01C recall.vehicle is inoperable and sitting at dealer. Keep being told parts unavailable. Reimbursement for rental was nightmare and deliberately delayed, change terms mid rental etc. No updates, no remedies, no compensation.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired because parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. I have had this vehicle since 2017. Over the years the shifter lights have flashed but I turn off the car and it’s fine. I believe there are electrical issues with these models. Yesterday my car randomly shut off. It could have been due to the heat but it was very dangerous. My brights have gone out and it could be because of an electrical issue. I’ve had to change my thermostat twice. I will be looking into trading this car out soon. It could be dangerous as I travel often.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while stopped at a stop sign or at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The failure had occurred on several occasions. While driving my car it loss power in the middle of the busy intersection the lights got dim in the car while I was at the stop light and the car just shut off I could not put on the hazardous lights or anything to alarm the cars behind me …I had to call a tow truck driver to move the vehicle I couldn’t even get the key out of the ignition neither could the tow truck driver …had the vehicle towed to my home when the vehicle reached my home the car then started back up …this was dangerous because some could have team into the back of me

Yes, replicated by both an independent service center & a dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the error message stated that the four wheel drive is unavailable. First date of notice was 2/26/2025.

Reference service bulletin 20V-343 / W47 Recall Summary (Differential unit) 2 Speed Power Transfer Unit failed (Transfer Case) PTU My wife was driving down the freeway at 65 MPH when the until failed. This was during heavy rains and while the car was hydroplaning. The four wheel drive system kicked in and then the unit failed. She heard a loud clunk and then unit the unit forced itself into neutral. This could have cause the car to spin out of control, but she was able to recover. Wife did not capture error message that occurred during the incident, but it said something about putting the car in neutral. once she was able to stop in the emergency lane on the freeway she came to a complete stop and put the car in park. She was exiting the vehicle and the car started to roll even though the car was in park. She quickly applied the brakes and was able to engage the ebrake. The car is currently at the mechanic for inspection.

Constantly Randomly Getting (Service Shifter) Notification and all the lights on the shifter light up on the shifter ... It Resets when i put it in Park and Stop Engine - When i ask the Jeep Dealer about it they say it must be doing it when i bring it in before the can trouble shoot the problem.... they say they cant check the computer code list and see when its happened and why ..... I believe this is a safety problem that should be a Recall and Fixed - Before it Ends up causing an Accident and Death ! And may have already cause Accidents and Deaths !

I drive a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and have experienced repeated instances of power loss while driving. The vehicle will suddenly jerk, hesitate, or feel like its struggling to maintain momentum, especially at lower speeds or when turning. On one occasion, it felt like the transmission slipped and I briefly lost acceleration, which was very alarming and could have caused a crash if I been merging or crossing traffic. I've also had the "Service 4WD" warning light appear intermittently. I took the vehicle to both a jeep dealership and an independent shop for diagnostics, but neither was able to find an active trouble code. However, the symptoms have continued and are getting worse. After reading about the recent recall (NHTSA Campaign 25V011) involving the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) in 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokees, I believe this may be an issue I am experiencing. At this time, Jeep has not released a fix, and I'm concerned that the vehicle is unsafe to drive until the PTU can be inspected and repaired. This seems to be a known and widespread issue that puts drivers at risk, and I'm hoping this report helps move the investigation forward.

I financed a brand new 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk from a local dealership in July of 2017 that I now own due to a recent payoff in November of 2024. However, for the past 3 years, I’ve been getting a ‘Service Shifter’ message appearing with all P-R-N-D gear shift lights illuminated.

Issue: Persistent “Service Shifter” Warning on 2017 Jeep Cherokee I own a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, and the “Service Shifter” warning continues to appear even after replacing both the wiring harness and bezel. Despite these repairs, the issue persists, creating safety concerns and frustration. This appears to be a recurring problem for many Jeep owners, yet no permanent fix has been provided. I am seeking further assistance or a long-term solution to resolve this issue. Jeep should address this defect to ensure customer safety and satisfaction.

Every so often when putting vehicle in park while running or at start up I get a dash message “service shifter” and all the gear lights light up and I’m unable to shift out of park. The dealership mechanic has now looked at it three times replacing the shifting bezel, wiring harness, and shift box. The issues still happens almost daily.

There are 3 things: sometimes when I go to start my jeep, it will start and cut off. Secondly: my rear back up camera keeps going in and out. I’ve had it replaced and it still goes out. Especially if it rains. Lastly, my “service shifter” light pops up randomly while I am driving and all of the lights on the gear shift will light up. It will not let me upload my videos of the screen

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer several times, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact reached out to Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Scottsdale (3800 N 89th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85251); but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the check engine warning light illuminated was due to an issue with the PTU. The manufacturer was contacted and offered a possible rental. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Orlando Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Dealership states there is no remedy for this issue, therefore they wanted to charge me $5,749.28 for parts and labor to fix the issue. My jeep is running hot even though there are no leaks. I cannot lock or unlock the four-wheel drive system. Alerts continually being shown on the dash to check shifter and 4x4 not available. This has been going on for almost a year.

I've owned this vehicle for about four years now. The car has been good up until JUST after my warranty expired and now I have a "Service 4WD" light on now. This light will come on most times when I'm driving. Sometimes not right away. But when it does light up it will say lit for the remainder of the drive. I belong to an online jeep group and I'm seeing a lot of the same issue. This light will come on most of the time. Any way I really hope you can help. Thank you.

I was driving and my service 4wd light came on. Took vehicle to dealership i bought it from and they done a test on it. It came back saying PTU , power transfer unit went out on it. This is what engages the 4 WD in it. I told them I seen Jeep had recalls on 2017 Jeep Cherokee like mine and they told me my vin number wasn't on list. I called Chrysler Jeep and was told the same story that my vin wasn't on list . I did receive a case number of [XXX]. I then contacted the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in Columbus Ohio and they contacted Chrysler Jeep and got no where with them as well and was told my vehicle vin number isnt on recall list. I was given a case number there [XXX] and then was told to contact you. The dealership ordered the part for my Jeep but they said its not available right now and they dont know when it will come in. Its gonna cost me $3989.24 + tax to repair it if or when the part comes in. IF THERES PROBLEMS GETTING THE PART TO FIX MY VEHICLE, WOULDNT IT APPEAR THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS THE PARTS ARE GOING BAD IN THE VEHICLES INCLUDING ALL VIN NUMBERS INSTEAD OF JUST A CERTAIN VIN NUMBER ??? The vehicle has excessive clicking in the rear. Shifter service light required light on dash . Went to dealership and got diagnosis . They Found Left rear Axle at differential has excessive movement. Rear drive shaft center bearings are loose. Both recommend replacing rear differential. I have quotes from two different auto repair places including jeep dealer service . Vehicle only has 50k miles on it and is driven only around town. I am the original owner. I strongly believe that this issue is connected with the Recall 01C/W47. I feel my vehicle is unsafe to drive and the out of pocket cost is extremely high for a repair on a vehicle with such low mileage.

I purchased a used 2017 vehicle in late 2024, and within a few months it became inoperable due to an open safety recall. I was driving on the highway with my children in the car when the vehicle stopped accelerating, putting mine and my children’s lives at risk. It was then confirmed the PTU is faulty at falling under the recall known as 01C. Via a local dealership service department. I have not had my vehicle since February of 2025 (it is now end of May 2025) The manufacturer has acknowledged the recall but has not provided a repair timeline, and the vehicle has now been out of service for over 90 days. They have denied my buyback request despite there still being no fix/resolution. To maintain transportation, I have had to rent a vehicle out-of-pocket and wait for reimbursement which has not been timely and has resulted in significant ongoing expenses causing immense financial hardship. While I was initially told I would be reimbursed weekly, the reimbursements have been inconsistent and delayed. Recently, the manufacturer changed its reimbursement parameters, requiring weekly in-person visits to the rental provider to obtain an “official receipt” — adding more logistical and financial strain.

I purchased a 2017 certified pre-owned Jeep Cherokee from a Jeep dealership in March 2020. Starting in late 2022/early 2023, while driving, everything electrical would shut off and stop functioning without warning (dashboard, radio, air or heat if on, lights near gear shift, could not use hazard lights, turning signal, or power windows), and shortly after the engine would die, leaving me stalled in the middle of the street. I would then have to put the car in park, turn the car off and turn it back on. I took it to 2 Jeep dealerships in Michigan where I was living at the time and they refused to look further than scanning the car to determine if any codes appeared and found no codes. This started happening more frequently in summer 2023 and I took it to a dealership in Indiana; no hard codes came up again and they were unable to replicate the issue. They found some worn wiring with the radio and replaced the radio, hoping it would resolve the issue (invoice attached). This issue started occurring again [XXX] more frequently than before (4 times in a 15-minute window) - this time I was on the highway and had no way to signal the cars behind as I could not use the turning signal or hazard lights and the electrical and engine cut off simultaneously without warning, almost causing a serious accident. The car has been at the dealership for 2 weeks now, and they are unable to replicate the issue; therefore, unable to provide a diagnosis. There was a safety recall for 2017-2018 Jeep Cherokees for the PTU (documentation attached), but my VIN doesn't fall within that recall. Therefore, I am filing a safety report to initiate an investigation for this issue, as this is a significant safety risk and has the potential to cause a fatal accident for myself as a driver and others on the road. This is happening quite often with the Jeeps ranging from 2014-2021 per Jeep forums (documentation attached), and no one has found a solution. The contact stated that the instrument cluster was black, and the vehicle also lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that the vehicle resumed full power function and that the instrument cluster and power steering assist returned several seconds later. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred later, and that prior to the second failure the front passenger’s side window had lowered independently. The contact stated that the vehicle returned to normal operation independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic reset several functions and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for additional assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she had not yet taken the vehicle to a dealer. The contact stated that the instrument cluster had started to flicker intermittently, as if the vehicle would lose power. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.

Have a problem with my call losing all power in my jeep while sitting at an intersection waiting for the light to change. Almost got rear-ended cause my car just suddenly lost power. Power finally came back in 20 or 30 seconds but I had people honking horns and I'm was frazzled. Now I have this Service Shifter error on my dashboard and the PNDR lights all are on and red..Came on Jeep automakers. Do better!!

Vehicle is putting up a code for “service shifter” while driving, which turns off when the car is turned off. Code does not read for dealerships to fix issue. it is reoccurring and we are concerned as we have seen a 2017 jeep Cherokee wreck out after throwing this code and “locking up the engine”. We are secondhand owners of this jeep and believe the previous owner sold this car because of said issue because it came up within a month of us purchasing the car.

While driving, multiple warning alerts appeared on my dashboard, including “Service Airbag,” “Service Four Wheel Drive,” “Service Shifter,” “Service ABS,” “Traction Control Off,” and “Check Engine Light.” Shortly after, the vehicle lost power and became immobile, preventing me from moving it to the side of the road. The parking brake engaged automatically and could not be disengaged. Additionally, the windshield wipers activated without being turned on. These issues rendered the car unsafe and unmovable. I called a tow truck, but the vehicle was towed before it arrived, leading to further costs and complications. The malfunctioning systems pose significant safety risks, including the failure of critical components like the airbag and ABS. The loss of power and inability to move the vehicle caused a hazardous situation, and I was unable to take preventive action. I request an investigation into whether this issue should be considered a recall. The situation raises serious concerns about the safety and reliability of the vehicle’s components.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shut off without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil and the engine was replaced. The contact stated that several years later while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle shut off without warning. The contact stated that the failure occurred for a second time soon after restarting the vehicle. The contact drove back to the dealer and the vehicle remained at the dealer for approximately 2 months. Once the vehicle was returned to the contact, the vehicle shut off again; the vehicle was towed back to the dealer. The dealer replaced the power software module and returned that vehicle back to the contact. Soon after retrieving the vehicle, the instrument panel went blank, and the vehicle shut off again without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and then back to the dealer; however, neither the independent mechanic nor the dealer could determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

I did have an incident in July of 2022, my car would not get out of park. I was in a drive through and put my car in park. When I went to put my car in drive. The vehicle completely shut off and began to roll backwards. The next set of issues, I first noticed the issues in the beginning of 2023. The service 4wd light is on and the parking brake will not engage. The 4wd itself works just fine, each terrain mode will engage. So Ilderton Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (High Point, NC), looked at my vehicle and said the PTU was bad and needs to be replaced. This passed weekend, I was driving entering a highway via acceleration lane and my car had trouble switching speed limits. Which leads me to believe the necessary power was not able to perform. This is detrimental to the safety of myself and others. Should my car's brakes fail or car lose power; it could seriously injure myself, innocent people in the vicinity of my car, or mechanics working on my car, etc. I work at a Pediatric office and would hate for the brakes to fail at work. Chrysler has already recalled 96,000 Jeep Cherokees for the exact same issue. Due to this, the PTU is back ordered and cannot be located anywhere in the US.

When driving my jeep the dashboard will randomly give me a warning to service my shifter and all of the lights on shifter will go red. I have to turn my jeep off and back on for the lights to go back to normal. I have had to replace the power transfer unit due to the 4 wheel drive not working anymore. I took my car into the dealership to the PCM W84 Recall and two weeks later my transmission fluid exploded and the engine was smoking. Had to replace the heat ignition coil and the inlet hose. Paid $2,000 to repair and a week later my check engine light came on and now my car is overheating. Took it to the dealer and they added coolant and said it was an air bubble in the coolant. A couple of days later the issue happened again, took it in two more times and they filled the coolant, but now saying that the cylinder head gasket needs to be replaced which is another $1,700.

While I was driving, the brakes completely failed. I was not able to stop my car. The brakes could not be tapped and the pedal simply did not move. I was only able to move the pedal approximately 1/2in applying tremendous pressure and the car slowed down to a stop. Upon repair, the “vacuum brake booster bump” failed, which is (I am told) a part unique to Jeep/Chrysler. There is no way to know when this part is going to break as it does not have signs of wear and tear and cannot otherwise be maintained. I was lucky this malfunction did not happen on a highway or a busy road as it certainly would have resulted in a catastrophic accident.

Parking brake has automatically engaged twice while at intersection, during the 1 week I have owned this used vehicle. This is an obvious and critical safety risk, causing a possible wreck from behind, or even worse, getting t-boned in an intersection. This is a know issue, and very irresponsible for Jeep OR NHTSA not to list as a recall. Does someone have to die in a wreck for this OBVIOUS safety issue to be addressed?

My parking brake locked up and no matter what we tried to attempt to unlock the parking brake nothing worked so my vehicle was towed. This problem occurred overnight while it sat in my parking area I did not have the parking brake engaged by me. Later, we discovered from my mechanic this could have occurred on the highway which could have led to a fatal accident. I think there should be a recall on the emergency parking brake module . Our parking brake module was found in water which meant the compartment the module was in was leaking water into the compartment which caused corrosion which led to the locking up of the parking brake.

The parking brake deploys automatically (while parked), locking the vehicle, and leaving it undrivable. Just prior, there was an illuminated brake symbol and message to service parking brake, on dash screen. Vehicle was towed to a local garage, and diagnosis was: parking brake censor corroded due to water leak. Part was replaced. Two days later, brake locks vehicle a second time (while parked), due to water damage. Waiting for part to be replaced again, and continued effort to locate leak. I don't know if either of the failed parts are available for inspection, but I will inquire. My main safety concern is for brake to automatically activate while driving. Not to mention the cost for repeat servicing.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the driver inadvertently drove off the road and lost control of the steering, causing the vehicle to drive over a driveway, go airborne, and crash into a large boulder. The contact indicated that during the incident, the accelerator pedal was inadvertently pressed, causing the vehicle to accelerate faster. During the crash, the vehicle had sustained severe front-end damage, but no air bags deployed. The driver sustained injuries to the lower back and was transported from the scene to the hospital. A police and EMS report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was later towed to the home. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer had not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 71,000.

My vehicle was in 2 MAJOR wrecks. One in dec 2021, where I t boned someone who turned in front of me at a green light. $19k in damages. Should have totaled it. But how in the hell the air bags didn’t go off is amazing. Bc my chest hit the steering wheel so hard i had to be treated for it. Not only that but the wreck destroyed my lower vertebrae. After it took the shop 6 months to fix and taken back for problems multiple times. I had it 2 weeks, and the brakes failed. Due to something the shop did I’m sure but I rear ended a lady with no brakes at 45-50 mph. Slamming directly into her even though I saw her. I broke my toe I hit the brakes so hard. But again I hit her directly where all the sensors are and this wreck was worse than the first the vehicle totaled and no air bags went off…. I shattered my left knee from hitting the dash.broke my big toe on my right foot etc. why didn’t my air bags go off…… I bought my vehicle certified pre owned in 2019. There’s no way in either wreck I missed that air bag sensor. I work in the collision industry. I know they have to be hit directly on to make them go off but there is no reason mine shouldn’t have other than a defect. I was alone in the first wreck, the second I was further injured and had to stop treatment I was still undergoing from the wreck before bc of the lapsing. My daughter was also injured in the second wreck. Second wreck happened in July 2022

There was no accident but I would like to prevent one. I believe there should be a recall on my vehicle regarding the service shifter. This defect could potentially result in power loss to the front wheels and the transmission being impossible to put into park. My vehicle service shifter light is on and my car jerks while driving. Is this not a problem with many Jeeps?

The following occurred at approximately 10:40 am: While traveling on our way home from grocery shopping, heading west on G Ave (Kalamazoo County, Michigan, on the north side of WalMart), cruise control was set to 53 mph (55 mph speed zone). Vehicle began to accelerate up to 59 mph, well beyond speed control setting, whereupon I pushed the “Cancel” button. Engine immediately revved up to about 6000 rpm, although drive seemed to disengage (it did not accelerate further), then RPM gradually returned to normal and normal speed control resumed but not under cruise control. We returned home a few minutes later, without incidence.

The shifting of the vehicle is erratic. Sometimes when accelerating it will not change gears, redlining before it eventually does shift, lurching the car forward. This can take an extremely long time for the car to shift like it should and is a safety concern in traffic as others are not expecting this odd behavior. It can cause issues when trying to accelerate and merge on to the highway. Multiple dealerships have indicated that they hear this from owners all the time but that Chrysler has provided no resolution. The manufacturer has refused on multiple occasions to inspect the vehicle. At 1200 miles the check engine light came on. The dealership indicated the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced but Chrysler refused to replace it.

Service shifter notification/warning comes on randomly. When this warning is on, all of the lights on the gear shift light up (p,r,n,d). The engine feels like it is slipping, and the vehicle will drive slowly & is very loud. The gas pedal can be pressed completely to the floor and the car will not accelerate fast enough. The airbag and parking braking notification flash as well. Check engine light comes too.

I bought this car and it was certified free of defects this has happened a half a dozen times now I called the dealer and told them about it and I saw what the fix was online. The fixe is to put in a new shifter bezel and a new wiring harness. The dealer refuses to do this and the vehicle is certified what can I do?

All antifreeze replaced. $600+ repair. 2/1/2022 same observed failure of engine to warm up during remote starts. 2/6/2022 check engine light comes on with code P0128. Again, thermostat failure. Miles 111,000. This appears to be a repetitive symptom of cherokees 2014+ with 2.4L engines. This can cause serious engine damage.

I HAVE ALSO HAD TO GET A TUNE UP AT 50000 MILES DUE TO MANUFACTURAL DEFECT ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC AN ALERT SHOWED THEM WHAT WAS WRONG. Service Shifter light came on dash, all gears on shifter , red lights came on. I was driving at 55 mph and could tell the car wasn’t accelerating and was slowing down . That’s when I noticed the Service Shifter light on dash. I was in a lot of traffic and couldn’t safely pull over , I was almost rear ended by the car behind me. I coasted to the side of the road and turned car off and back on . The light went off . This was yesterday , today I start the car and it starts rough ( which it usually doesn’t ) and the service shifter light is back on. This is a very serious , dangerous and possibly deadly issue . I was so scared when it happened as I had no control of speed of the vehicle . I see many , many reports on this issue for several years and it shows past repairs have not corrected the issue. A recall should be issued ASAP before someone gets hurt or dies from this very common problem . Customers should not have to pay to repair and issue that has been reported thousands of times for many years . Please give direction on how to get this properly and fully fixed . I am afraid to drive the vehicle for fear of a traffic accident .

While driving the service shifter warning has come on. The car will drive like it is not in the correct gear, and all the gear shift lights come on. It does not want to accelerate. If the warning comes on when starting up, the Jeep will not allow me to shift from park. It has to be shut off and restarted after waiting a few minutes. The auto stop-start no longer works. (It’s the feature that helps to cut emissions that usually engages when at a signal light.). While researching, I found out that Mopar has recalled some Cherokee models, but not mine.

WAS DRIVING AND IN MOTION WHEN I HEARD A DING AND THE "SERVICE SHIFTER" ALERT CAME ON, AND ALL OF THE GEARS HAD THE RED LIGHT ON. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 9 MONTHS AND HAVE NEVER HAD AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE BEFORE. IT IS NOT DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE OR ANY OTHER MAINTENANCE SERVICE. IT IS AT 47,000 MILES AND WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THIS HAPPENS VERY FREQUENTLY BUT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER AND SHIFTER HARNESS. I AM VERY UPSET AND DISAPPOINTED WITH JEEP THAT THIS IS A LIFE-THREATENING ISSUE, AND IT HAPPENS "FREQUENTLY." My car back in June 2025 left me stranded in the turn lane with traffic backing up after the emergency parking brake turned on without warning. I was not able to drive e my car or to release the brake and move my car. I did a thorough review of all possible reasonable switches that could have caused the malfunction. So I tried to turn off all of the warning systems. Once I did this I couldn't drive faster than 5 to 10 mph. I was able to get to a parking lot about 100 ft away. I called a tow truck, spoke with my mechanic at the local dealership. He suggested what I had already done including removing the battery cables. We did all this to no avail. He got the car then took 3 days to get it to release after opening and closing the door 10 times before starting the car again. He said I need a modulator valve. We have been waiting for over 6 months and my car is still waiting for this part. I can not drive the only car I own when I have a safety issue. Should this had happened while driving with my grandson in the car it is unsafe and it isn't what an autistic child needs to face. This incident has happened 4 times since it happened in June. Every time it takes place, I have to turn off the car open and close the door 10 times before the carvwill release and reset the computer system to make the car drivable again. I did check with the dealership yesterday and still other jeeps of this year has the same issues but my car is not in that listing. What does a person have do when it is clearly a manufacturer defect?

Electronic parking brake (EPB) module. Yes confirmed by a independent service center. Warning Park Brake indicator. This is the second time happening. First time was Sept 2024 was fixed. Taking it in tomorrow for confirmation, if same issue mechanic stated the part is on National Backorder!!!! Unable to release out of Park Brake which in turn, unable to drive car. Safety issue when driving, stops abruptly, can't disengage safety brake.

E-brake service light came on and couldn’t release it, so it had to be towed for a second time in 3 days. The first mechanic released it and said I would be able to drive it until I could get it to the dealership for a possible computer issue that he wouldn’t be able to preform. I drove it a total of 9.5 miles after this before it did it again and I had to have it towed. This was very scary to know that the e-brake could just lock up at anytime or anywhere. I could easily get injured or killed if it happened at the wrong time or place. The dealer found that the module was full of water and needed to be replaced. This is my 3rd Jeep in almost 31 years and now I’m not feeling safe with a Jeep anymore. Why hasn’t there been a recall when it’s a big safety issue? I did get warning lights when it happened the 1st time and did have it towed because it wouldn’t disengage no matter what I did. It’s costing me $400+ to replace the module and $400+ to put in a new Multifunctional Switch that the dealers repair shop also states is involved with this issue. Also, it cost me $105 for the 1st tow and $171 for the 2nd and $110 for the 1st mechanic to look at it. Again, I’m a senior citizen and should not feel scared to drive my vehicle nor need to spend $800+ and an additional $386 to resolve an issue that Jeep has known about for years and is just waiting for it to kill someone before they respond!

The Jeep is used as a flat tow vehicle with our 2004 Monaco RV. On June 8, we left Ducket Mill Campground in Dawsonville GA to return home to Cincinnati OH. The vehicle was attached to the RV with the Blue Ox Flat Tow system. The four tires on the Jeep were checked and were all rolling. We followed the instructions in the manual, which were also the instructions given to us by the RV dealer who did the installation. One hour and a half after we left, the Jeep started smoking. A truck driver who passed our vehicle pulled off the side of the road yelled that the parking brake was on and needed to be turned off. Upon checking, there were two flat, chewed up tires. We were towed to a tire dealer in Ellijay GA to have repaired. We have one of the tires. That night, we found a Jeep salesman from 2017 on YouTube explaining the parking brake had to be disengaged to make sure there were no problems in flat towing. This was the first we had heard of this problem. We checked in the manual, and the only mention was that the electronic parking brake can be disengaged. No other warning. When we got home, we had the Jeep into the dealer. They could find nothing wrong with the parking brake system. They DROVE the car, but dd not flat tow it. The person at the tire store showed us how the tire was worn and torn up in a small area, probably caused by the parking brake engaging. Since we were not in the car and the car worked fine for an hour and 1/2 (not to mention the entire way down from Cincinnati to Dawsonville), we believe the parking brake engaged by itself as we drove through the mountains.

Over the past several months, I’ve experienced intermittent issues with the electronic parking brake on my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. On several occasions, the parking brake activated unexpectedly while I was driving, creating safety concerns and inconsistent vehicle behavior. As of two days ago, the issue became significantly worse. The electronic parking brake activated again while the vehicle was stationary and has since failed to disengage, rendering the vehicle undrivable. I had the vehicle examined by a certified mechanic, who performed a diagnostic test. The results indicated a water intrusion issue that has caused damage to the electronic parking brake module. The mechanic explained that moisture had likely entered the module area, leading to electrical malfunction and failure of the system to release the brake. This is now a critical mechanical and safety concern that requires immediate repair and resolution.

The Electronic Parking Brake turned on after putting vehicle in PARK. Could this brake have been applied while driving? If so, there could have been multiple fatalities or serious injuries. I did find some text on how there was a lawsuit going on about this.

Parking brake engage itself upon starting car and was still engaged while backing out of garage. Service parking brake and service start/stop warning lights are now on. Investigation for repair found excessive drain on battery for age of the battery (14 months).

I started my vehicle and when I selected the drive gear all the red lights came on every gear. The service shifter warning came on the dash. I couldn’t move the vehicle for a week. The electronic parking brake start flashing on and off. I had this happen once before on vacation. I took it to the dealer in Vancouver Washington and they claim to have done a flash update, and took my brand new battery that was only three months old. Replaced it with the Mopar battery with less cold cranking amps, and charged me for it. Also, they refused to give me my battery back.

THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT WAS COMING ON. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT WERE LIT UP. AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE KEPT APPLYING ON ITS OWN. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF TIME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT COST ME ALMOST $400 TO REPLACE THE BEZEL AND WIRING HARNESS. My 2017 has experienced multiple loss of power events( two on the highway!). The vehicle’s transmission will disengage and I will have to coast to the side of the road. My ignition is still on but have been told previously that my PTU needs replacing. I will have the amber service transmission light illuminated but only after having transmission disengage. This power failure is a extremely serious safety issue- now the local Jeep dealers have “no fix” and I am having to rent a car because of this safety issue.

WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 395 TRAVELING NORTH FROM SPOKANE, WA, WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 60 MPH, AFTER CRESTING A LOW HILL AND DESCENDING THE HILL MY CAR'S ENGINE BEGAN RACING THE RPM WENT TO 4500 RPM AND I COULDN'T GET IT TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP BY BRAKING OR CHANGING THE CRUISE CONTROL. MY CAR GOT TO 80 MPH WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE CRUISE CONTROL TO DISENGAGE BY PRESSING CANCEL AGAIN WHILE BRAKING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. IT'S VERY SCARY. I'M AFRAID TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL IN MY CAR.

I was driving up bridge in morning rush traffic suddenly without warning lost drive cv axel on passegner side broke and had to be towed. I called 911 and the police tried to put car in drive and car would just roll back and it almost went into the unit. when the car suddenly stopped I was just lucky no one ran into me, I was in the middle of the road & could not move the car.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS LOW OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, WE HAVE THE OIL CHANGED REGULARLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AND DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED MILEAGE BETWEEN CHANGES. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON MAIN ROADS DURING TIMES OF HIGH TRAFFIC AND HAS PUT MY FAMILY IN DANGER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. While driving the Service Shifter prompt came on and all the lights on the gear box turned red. The safety risk when this prompt came on is huge as you are driving and trying not to panic as you don't know if the car will stall or stop suddenly. MANY other people with Jeeps have experienced this problem. There should be a recall for this issue. This vehicle has under 25,000 miles. I went to the dealership and was informed the parts are not covered under warranty. It was confirmed the Bezel and Wire Harness will have to be replaced which the dealership did on 6/24/2021. The vehicle was only inspected by the dealership. No other warnings or dashboard messages prior to 6/23/2021.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE GEARS LIGHT UP. THE CONTACT VEERED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON WHICH FAILED TO RESUME BACK TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE THEN WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT THE PART REPAIRED WAS UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS TAKEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,600.

ON TWO OCCASIONS WHILE FLAT TOWING THE JEEP BEHIND OUR RV THE FRONT END WOBBLED EXCESSIVELY AND ONLY STOPPED WHEN WE SLOWED TO ALMOST A STOP. BOTH INSTANCES HAPPENED WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF STARTING TO TRAVEL IN THE MORNING AND HAPPENED IN CONSTRUCTION ZONES WHERE THE PAVEMENT WAS ROUGH. WE HAD HEARD OF THIS ISSUE SO WE HAD THE DEALER INSTALL THE MOPAR STERRING HARNESS WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR. THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM BUT ITS CLEAR IT DID NOT DO SO. AFTER THE LAST INCIDENT WE TOOK THE CAR TO A JEEP DEALER WHO SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE CAR BATTERY AND REPLACED IT. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WAS THE REAL CAUSE SINCE THE BATTERY WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. THE DEALER ALSO SHOWED US A NOTICE RECOMMENDING HAVE A CHARGER INSTALLED IF TOWING THE CAR MORE THAN 3 HOURS. (AGAIN, THIS DOESN'T ACCOUNT FOR OUR EXPERIENCES SINCE BOTH OF THEM OCCURED WITHIN THE FIRST HALF HOUR).

Service shifter light comes on and all lights light up on shifter. This is a issue that I brought up about 2-3 years ago when I purchased the vehicle. Took it to dealership they replaced a cable and another part I believe. The issue is now happening again. My cruise control on the vehicle also does not always decelerate when it should and will speed up over the amount its set for.

GAS PEDAL WILL STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING NOT ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE THE JEEP. I HAVE TO PULL OVER, POWER OFF THE JEEP, AND WAIT ABOUT 5 MINUTES. AFTER WAITING, I HAVE TO HOLD THE KEY IN THE START POSITION UNTIL THE JEEP TURNS ON WHICH RANGES ANYWHERE FROM 30-190 SECONDS TO DO. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE BUT MY CAR IS NOT COVERED. I BELIEVE THAT THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED AS IT DOES NOT FULLY COVER THE VEHICLES AFFECTED. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED 6 TIMES OVER THE LAST 2 MONTHS.

SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN THE PAST 2 MONTHS, INCLUDING TODAY; WHEN DRIVING MORE THAN 25-35 MILES THERE WILL BE A "SERVICE SHIFTER" NOTIFICATION AND THE ASSOCIATED 'DING' NOISE NOTIFICATION THAT COMES ON. THIS NOTIFICATION BLOCKS ANY ACTION ON THE SCREEN BETWEEN THE SPEEDOMETER AND RPM MONITOR AND ONLY SUCCESSFULLY GOES AWAY WHEN TURNING THE JEEP COMPLETELY OFF. THIS HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION, PARTICULARLY ON HIGHWAYS, AND SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN IF I HAVE USED OR AM USING CRUISE CONTROL ON THE TRIP. IT ALSO ILLUMINATES ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER (PNRD +/-). IT SEEMS THAT THIS COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE WITH SHIFTING, CAUSE ME TO BECOME STRANDED, OR BECOME DANGEROUS FOR MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS.

THE SECOND CONDITION WAS MY CRUISE WAS SET AT 66 MILES AN HOUR WELL TRYING TO REDUCE AND CANCEL SPEED CRUISE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF UNTIL I HIT THE BRAKES HARD TO AVOID THE CRASH.

on 11/1/25 we were driving our Jeep and it malfunctioned while at a stop light. We heard a loud "clunk" and the car would barely go and if we tried to put in park, it would continue to roll. We were on top of a hill so thankfully we didnt roll back or into traffic. We could not drive the car and had to have it towed since it was not safe to drive. Our Jeep is at an authorized Jeep dealer since 11/3/25 and we were told the issue was a power transfer unit that would be covered on the recall but the part was on backorder until 12/2. Jeep would only cover $50/day for a car rental, so we had to rely on borrowing cars from others. Once 12/2 came, we reached out to the dealership and they said the part ship date was moved to 12/18! This is not a timely manner. We have made at least 3 calls to Jeep over the past week, and they keep telling us since 12/10/25 that they will let us know in 2 days...2 days pass and they transfer our case. Another two days pass and still no call from them so I called them back and they have yet to call me. We had our Jeep in the week of 11/17 or 11/24 for inspection and it passed. We noticed some lagging when we were going up hills in the 1-2 rpm range but mechanic did not notice it. Between the inspection and when it finally broke down, no lights came on and there were no warning messages. Not until the car broke down on 11/1.

My car is jerking when driven and enabling the park brake while driving. There is a recall on other similar models. I purchased this vehicle brand new and within the same year, had the engine replaced by the manufacturer due to mechanical issues. Please assist in getting this PTU fixed not at my expense. The dealership is telling me $3k but I feel this should be covered due to other recalls and the fact that this motor was replaced shortly after purchasing the car.

The incident happened in a parking lot. Backing out of the parking space, there was a delivery truck parked right behind me. Backing out of my parking space, I hit the bumper of the truck (no damage to the truck). As I pulled back into my parking space the vehicle accelerated very rapidly in a distance of approx. 25 feet; the acceleration seemed "Hell cat" like. Slamming my foot on the brake did not help. The vehicle then hit a brick retaining wall deploying multiple air bags and causing enough vehicle damage that the insurance company declared it totaled. It is amazing that the vehicle hit the brick wall with enough intensity to deploy the air bags and cause considerable front end damage after traveling such a short distance (approx 25 ft). The vehicle is in the insurance company's possession. As such, I do not have access to the vehicle. Had the brick wall not been there, the vehicle could have hit other vehicles or pedestrians and I was lucky to only have minor bruises and abrasions. There was no warning what so ever that this was about to happen.

The contact stated that fifteen days before the failure, the vehicle had been repaired under Customer Satisfaction Notification: W84 for excessive oil consumption. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) was reprogrammed. The contact stated that the dealer did not add the quart of oil as instructed as part of the remedy. After a quick internet search, it appears MANY people have experienced this exact same issue with various Jeep models. It seems this is an issue the company should take responsibility for and fix with a recall. The parts to replace this faulty design are expensive, and a repair shop cost would be exorbitant.

There was already a recall on the make and model of my car, Jeep Cherokee Latitude; however, when I search by VIN it shows zero unrepaired recalls. So if the problem is fixed (no one even attempted to fix my car), why does my car still shut off in the middle of driving? When it shuts off I can’t turn the wheel, Can’t put it in park, and the gas and brakes/ABS don’t work. This has happened many times with my daughter, currently 4yo, in the car; why do I have to risk my life every single time we need to go somewhere? Every single dealership and mechanic I’ve brought it to says there is nothing wrong with the car, yet it continues to shut off while driving… I did crash the first time it happened, but it was in a snow storm and possibly unrelated? No injuries or damage.

Today while driving, my vehicle’s power steering went out causing me to pull over to the side of the road. My car was running, but I was unable to move it. When I put it in drive, the lights on the shifter would flash, but the car would not change gears. The problem appears to be electrical as the battery is brand new, and the engine was running.

Service shifter message has been appearing and at times, all lights on PRND lighting up. The vehicle transmission may still engage or may not. Recent occurrence on 07/13/2013, vehicle took 20 minutes before transmission engaged. Fortunately, I was parked at work, going home. If this occurred on the road, has potential of wreck happening. Jeep dealership leaning towards voltage error, cleaned battery terminals, test drove, could not replicate error. Did not drive until 07/17/2023, service shifter message came back without all PRND lights coming on.

I was driving like normal about 15 mph after just pulling out of the gas station onto the main road and have no issues with my car as of late and all of a sudden it just stopped. All the lights lite up on the shift, every light lite up on the dash saying everything needed to be serviced, I was unable to move or do anything with the car, not even turn it off and i was in the middle of the road! Luckily no one was behind me and I was still able to engage my hazards. After about 10 min's my car turned off on it's own. I sat for another 10 before finally being able to turn it back on and move it to the side of the road and eventually get it back to my house 2 miles away. Clearly this is a serious safety issue and is not ok, especially the fact that my car was bought brand new and is not even 5 years old!

There are dozens of reports concerning this situation online and it is a SERIOUS safety issue that has received no attention. There is apparently and “incomplete” notice from JEEP that has failed to reach all customers. This has now happened to me three times — 2 of which were in situations that created significant safety risk.

1. Consumer is a Permanent and Total Disabled Vet (Unemployable) and this vehicle is the only vehicle Consumer has. 2. I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk KL (XXX) I have owned since day one with 56k miles. 3. At all times I did not receive any recall notices for correct known safety issues. 5. I have OBD-II tools of vLinker (use everyday for LiveData), BlueDriver and TogDog. 6. For almost as long as I have had the Jeep I have experienced the following. When I say the following I mean, at all times: a. Any type of road- surface- weather- time of day- city, highway and interstate driving- speed to include deaccelerating, at stop sign/light- 1-3 x’s a day, weekly- it doesn’t matter when or where b. The PTU was replaced in 2018 according to service report, service stating they couldn’t replicate issue although they had videos, etc a total of 4-x’s c. But, I keep experiencing the following: d. Loss of acceleration, push on gas pedal nothing happens, sometimes can let off for a bit and then accelerates, revs to 6-7k up/down using/not cruise, cruise doesn’t turn off, pulling trailer and not- lose brakes when stopped rolls back, parking brake message, traction control message, service engine message, loud engine noises from in front of driver, rear back and under center console- lose of rear wheel traction, loss of park- shifting to park grinding noises, 7. Date: [XXX] I went to the Exxon gas station in Richmond ,VA to fill up for the trip back to Rocky Mount, N.C. When I put the handle hose into truck hole to pump the gas the gas would not go down the hose. It splashed out on the ground, on my feet and clothes. After several attempts with no resolve, I contacted my insurance for roadside assistance. Which led to the Jeep towed to N.C.I view this as a manufacture defect. I researched this issue and found that there are others consumers dealing with the same difficulty with their Jeep. They can not longer pump gas in the tank. This is a manufacture issue which should be investigated for a recall of this impairment, defected vehicles. In order to correct and repair the defected component or system malfunctions. I was driving my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 2.4L, car won't start, I have oil pressure sensor to warn me when low doesn't alert me at all, only time is when I realized a beep when I made turns and would indicate oil pressure low! I can't get my car to stop and it stalled on me while driving with no indication of low oil, and I have two kids and could have been very bad, since no power no breaks no steering!

On [XXX] my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude experienced full power failure while driving, resulting in an uncontrolled stopped with lack of power brakes, steering or other electrical assistance while in middle of road with traffic traveling 20 mph just avoiding impact with car in front of me. Had I been on highway or traveling faster I may have encountered a deadly impact to rock walls on road or surrounding traffic or oncoming traffic. There is a recall listed [XXX] Campaign number [XXX]. I have made a complaint to JEEP 800-853-1403 who noted my vin with case number [XXX]. My jeep vin is not included in recall notice but clearly should be and covered for repair under [XXX] . My Jeep regained power 5 min later and I drove it knowing unsafe to repair shop where it sits. My Vin should be added to the already listed appx 67k jeeps 2014-2017 year. I also have MOPAR extended warranty. I will not drive my jeep for obvious reasons until the repair is made. The car randomly activated the Electronic Parking Break and it will not disengage. I have disconnected the Battery hoping to reset the module but that did not work. This car will also randomly refuse to start or shut down. Only resetting the ECM/PCM will clear the error and get the car moving again. This is a safety concern because the Ebrake may engage while moving at high speeds. There is a warning light indicating that Ebrake needs service. There is also an unknown leak coming in from the roof and running towards the back lift gate. Water will pool in the storage section to the left and right of rear lift gate.

THIS VEHICLES HAD A RECALL ON SOMETHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION- THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS TO HAVE CORRECTED THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS STILL HAVING SLIPPING ISSUES. The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact started the vehicle and became aware that the Auto START/STOP and Parking Brake Failure messages were displayed. The contact drove to work and parked the vehicle. The contact returned to the vehicle and attempted to start the vehicle however, the emergency parking brake was activated and could not be deactivated. The emergency parking brake light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to dealer and a diagnostic test was performed. The dealer stated that the parking brake was activated, and the parking brake module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Action Number: PE22009 (Parking Brake) as a possible solution. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY, WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE STAR CONNECTORS AND FOUND MULTIPLE PINS WITH CORROSION. THE DEALER CLEANED THE STAR CONNECTER AND ADDED DI-ELECTRIC GREASE TO THE CONNECTORS. THE IPE AND IP3 HAD LOSE PINS IN THE CONNECTORS. THE PINS WAS REPAIRED AND SECURED INTO THE CONNECTOR HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO PROVIDE THE CONTACT WITH FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO WELSH JEEP CHRYSLER (36 DUMONT RD, FAR HILLS, NJ, 07931, (908)234-0109) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGING INDEPENDENTLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FOUR-STAR CONNECTORS AND PLUGS WERE INCORRECTLY CONNECTED AND THERE WAS NO DE-ELECTRIC GREASE ON THE CONNECTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,994.

I was driving on route I79 Southbound. I had just entered I79 southbound via exit 152. I was accelerating to the speed limit of 70mph. There were no vehicles or objects within 1/4 mile of my location. At approximately 68Mph, the tire front passenger side blew out without cause or reason. As I maneuvered the vehicle over to the shoulder, the rear passenger tire blew out. Upon having the vehicle towed to the repair shop at my expense, I saw that the rim on the front passenger tire was completely destroyed. I believe this was was caused by a defect in the front passenger rim. It appears there was something wrong with the rim.

WE WERE DRIVING FROM TALLAHASSEE TO CAPE CANAVERAL FLORIDA. AS WE NEARED GAINESVILLE THE CAR HANDLING BECAME ERRATIC. AT THE TIME WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE AND TRAVELING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. WE STOPPED IN GAINESVILLE AT A COOPER DEALER AND THEY SAID A FRONT TIRE TREAD HAD SHIFTED. A NEW TIRE WAS PURCHASED. WE CONTINUED OUR TRIP AND AFTER ABOUT 1 HOUR THE SAME HANDLING PROBLEM OCCURRED JUST AS WE GOT ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE.. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A COOPER DEALER IN LEE FLORIDA AND WE WERE ADVISED THAT THE OTHER FRONT TIRE HAD FAILED DUE TO THE SAME REASON. TIRES HAD ABOUT 13,00 MILES ON THEM. THREE TIMES WHILE ACTIVELY MOVING IN TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN ABLE TO BE STOPPED SAFELY AND PLACED INTO PARK. THE ELECTRICAL WORKS SO HAZARD LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE ENGAGED. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILS TO RESTART ON THE FIRST FEW ATTEMPTS. ULTIMATELY IT WILL RESTART. THE SERVICE REP INDICATED THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND HE HAS SEEN A LOT OF THIS ON THIS MODEL. HE NOTED THE ENGINE HAS LOOSE TOLERANCES TO ACHIEVE THE MILEAGE RATING. AS A RESULT IT LOOSES OIL RAPIDLY. AND JEEP IMPLEMENTED ENGINE SENSORS TO STOP THE ENGINE WHEN THE OIL IS LOW. THE SENSORS DO NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR AT WHAT SPEEDS. I CALLED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION IMMEDIATELY, TO WHICH WE GOT AN ANSWER TO DROP IT OFF, THEY WILL HAVE TO LOOK AT IT WHEN THEY GET TO IT. The automatic transmission shifter transmits a warning to the instrument panel display with the words SERVICE SHIFTER. All of the red shifter console lights light up at once. The vehicle will not engage the PARK safety brake at times after parking the vehicle when the warning is illuminated. While operating the vehicle no other instrument readings are available (speed, mileage, etc). The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer or mechanic and is a continuing problem. This issue first appeared one month ago and there was no other indication of a problem prior to the first occurrence.

The shifter turns all red lights and service shifter appears in the warnings. There was a recall for this on certain vin #s for the same make and model but Chrysler refuses to acknowledge the wider problem effecting others. They advise you to pay out of pocket and I can’t afford that. This is clearly an issue that is wide spread and the danger is unknown what can happen but I don’t feel safe driving my [XXX] in a vehicle with all these warning lights. The issue started apparently 2 years ago but hadn’t been addressed by my wife because she was out of work and not driving it much. We need both our vehicles safe and Chrysler needs to fix the issues that their manufacturers caused. There are so many articles and complaints about this same issue and Chrysler refusing to fix it. Please help us ensure the safety of our family until we can afford another car. Our mechanic was able to replicate the issue and now it’s just constantly on. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the failure was self-corrected. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure was unable to be duplicated. THIS VEHICLE HAS INTERMITTENT NO ACCELERATION FROM A STOP GOING INTO TRAFFIC AND WILL FINALLY RESPOND BREAKING THE TIRES LOOSE AND WILL ACCELERATE SO FAST THAT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU IS IN DANGER. I am a retired shop owner and tech and this is a very dangerous situation not easily duplicated for diagnostic purposes but in following Jeep Forums hAS DEFINITELY been a problem for many and I am sure there are many of these issues and vehicles still on the road. A SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE COME UP ON MY OPTOMETER SCREEN 4 TIMES IN 3 DAYS. THE WARNING APPEARS IN RED LETTERS THAT ALSO HIGHLIGHT ALL GEAR LIGHTS RED AND THE SCREEN WAS LOCKED TO SERVICE SHIFTER. Indicator lights are shown on dash include gas cap, seat belt and engine. All gear lights display red when driving and states to service shifter. Dash displays service engine soon. Service air bag system. Seat belt will constantly ding even though it is buckled and will not stop dinging. Replaced gas cap, but indicator light continues to display on dash. Strongly believe there are electrical issues causing theses defects. Took to local dealership and they performed an update, but the indicator lights started to display again the following day, along with the constant dinging from the vehicle not being able to sensor the seat belt being buckled. This has been happening for over a year now and no one seems to be acknowledging there is an extreme safety concern with this vehicle. Strongly believe it is due to the fact of being at fault and not wanting to correct the defects without compensation. Plus there is an abnormal sound when accelerating since these issues began and are continuous. If you’re an attorney reading this, please find me through my vin #. I’m tired of dealing with these issues and willing to take legal action to resolve these issues. Will never buy a Jeep again. Thanks.

in august 2021 my got a service parking brake warning. took to dealership to make a appointment got more warning on the drive there for traction control,brake warning and check engine. got a appointment for later in week. asked was it OK to drive was told yes it was OK. got in car to leave and every 4 to 6 inches parking brake would lock up. tried a few times to move car but couldn't go any where keep locking brakes up. went inside told service advisor said i would have to leave it with them. called for a ride and while waiting for ride service advisor tried to move car and same thing happened to him. they replaced parking brake module. then in January 2022 left work and got service parking brake warning again then traction control also after a few miles. managed to make it home and called dealership and got a appointment for a few days later. when i tried to go to work next time car would not start battery was dead. had it towed to dealership and the brake module and terminal was corroded and green also battery was shorted out and would not hold a charge { fried the battery}. had to replace battery,control module and wiring harness this time. guess i was lucky it didn't catch fire this time or it happen while driving at highway speeds.

While driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicles steering wheel locked, all lights on the dash came on and the car shut completely off. My daughter was able to slowly pump the breaks to stop because there was no traffic but had there been she could have been in a serious accident since the car completely shut down. This is a huge safety concern.

WHILE PICKING UP MY OLDEST CHILD FROM SCHOOL, MY THREE YEAR OLD TODDLER REACHED THE SHOULDER SAFETY BELT LOCATED IN THE CENTER SEAT (NEXT TO HER CAR SEAT ON THE DRIVER SIDE) AND IT GOT WRAPPED AROUND HER NECK AND NEARLY STRANGLED HER. MY CHILD YELLED FOR HELP. I GOT OUT OF THE DRIVERS SEAT AND RAN TO HER AID AND IMMEDIATELY PUT MY FINGERS BETWEEN HER NECK AND THE BELT. I SCREAMED FOR HELP. SEVERAL ADULTS CAME TO AID AND THE SEATBELT WOULD NOT LET UP. EVERY MOVEMENT AND ATTEMPT MADE TO GET IT TO RELEASE MADE THE BELT TIGHTEN EVEN MORE AROUND MY CHILD'S NECK. THE CAR ACCELERATES BY ITSELF AND SOMETIMES THE CAR JERKS FORWARD ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK OR I AM ON THE BRAKES.IN RUSH HOUR HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC OR LOCAL TRAFFIC SAME THING. I CAN BE DOING 20 MPH OR 75 MPH AND THE ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS. I REPORTED THIS TO MY RICK HENDRICKS JEEP DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY SEEN IT BEFORE AS WELL AS NAPLETON IN FLORIDA. SERVICE SHIFTER CAME ON ONE EVENING AND WENT OFF UPON SHUTTING THE VEHICLE DOWN AND RESTARTING IT. THE NEXT DAY WOTH NO WARNING I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY THREE KIDS. SUDDENLY DASH FLASHED 4X4, TRACTION CONTROL, ERS, AUTO STOP ALL UNAVAILABLE AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION JUST STOPPED FUNCTIONING. I WAS IN THE FAST LANE DOING 70 MPH AND HAD NO POWER WHAT SO EVER. THE RPMS WENT UP AND I HAD NO ACCELERATION WITH THE GAS PEDAL DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SLOW LANE BUT NOT WITHOUT CAUSING A RIFT IN TRAFFIC, THANKFULLY OTHER DRIVERS WERE ALERT AROUND ME AND LET ME OVER ONCE I HIT MY FLASHERS. ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE STOPPED ON A STEEP INCLINE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I STEPPED ON THE GAS AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE ENGINE FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS. THIS CAUSED ME TO ROLE BACKWARDS THEN WHEN THE ENGINE ENGAGED, IT LOUNGED FORWARD ALMOST HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE SITUATION FOR A LACK OF HILLS THEREFORE NOTHING WAS DONE. Jeep Cherokee – Unexpected 4WD / PTU Issue Out of nowhere, my Jeep Cherokee displayed a message on the dashboard saying “Service 4 Wheel Drive.” I was driving normally at the time — no impact, no off-road driving, and nothing unusual occurred beforehand. After taking the vehicle to my mechanic, I was informed that the issue might be related to the PTU (Power Transfer Unit). It seems the system failed without any warning signs. Now, every time I start the car, the same “Service 4 Wheel Drive” message reappears. There are no strange noises or performance issues at the moment, but the warning remains, which is concerning and will need further inspection.

Parking brake on the jeep automatically engaged while driving. Had vehicle towed to dealership where a new parking brake switch was installed and programed and told it was ready to go. Picked it up and it did the same thing again and turned on the auto start stop light. Took it back to the dealership and they said water had gotten into the back area and corroded the parking brake module and the connector. They wanted to charge me $2500 to fix. I took the vehicle home and parked it and started doing research. This is a known problem that could affect 1.2 million vehicles. My jeep only has 73,500 miles on it and is regularly serviced. It's driven roughly 4 miles a day. This is a safety issue so why isn't there a recall on it. It is a defect in design not a consumer made issue.

The contact’s daughter owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact was informed that while driving approximately 35 - 40 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to engage. The vehicle jumped a curb, causing the driver to activate the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The Brake Warning light then illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the brake pads were worn. The brake pads were replaced; however, the brake failure warning light illuminated again. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and test-driven. The contact stated that the brakes failed to engage while the vehicle was shifted into reverse. The dealer engaged the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an Auto Parts store and a diagnostic test was performed and a fault for the brake booster was retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part being out of stock and needing the manufacturer's permission to sell the part. The vehicle was driven to the residence and remained unrepaired. The contact stated that while driving into the garage and depressing the brake pedal, there was a metallic grinding sound coming from the brakes. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V572000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I purchased a used 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk in March 2025 for $13,000. Four days later, the transfer case failed while driving, leaving me stranded in traffic and requiring a tow. The dealership replaced the transfer case using a used part, but did not disclose that to me at the time. Roughly four months later, the vehicle failed again, this time grinding gears and failing to shift properly out of Park or into Drive. It began rolling forward while supposedly in Park, and now requires the emergency brake to be engaged at all times to prevent it from moving. This makes the vehicle unsafe to operate or park and creates a serious safety hazard for myself and others. There were no dashboard alerts or warning lights before either failure. The most recent symptoms appeared suddenly in July 2025 and have persisted. The initial failure was confirmed by the dealership, but I have not had the second failure diagnosed due to lack of trust in the dealership's work. The issues are plainly visible and reproducible. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or insurance representatives. I have filed complaints with the New York Attorney General, DMV, and BBB. I later discovered that an open NHTSA safety recall on the powertrain was issued before the date of sale, but the dealership had me sign a document stating there were no recalls and failed to disclose this recall entirely. I am working with a lawyer and seeking resolution through consumer protection laws and formal complaints.

The vehicle was then taken to two Chevrolet dealers where the failure was diagnosed as a failed rear differential. The contact was informed that the rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that only parts listed in the recall were covered under the recall. The contact was informed that additional parts were not covered under the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 80,941. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Electronic parking brake engaged and wouldn't release. Possibility of occurrence while driving. Problem has been confirmed by independent service center to have been caused by water leakage into the area where the parking control module is located. Water was found pooling in parking control module which corroded connecters. Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone but the service center. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

I believe the PTU is malfunctioning and causing the transmission to slip or jerk. I am experiencing uncontrolled movement while driving. The vehicle is available at any time for inspection upon request. This puts myself and 2 small children at risk while driving, therefore my ability to use this vehicle is extremely limited and high risk. I have taken it to a jeep dealership in porterville ca who stated my transmission needed replacement. they verbally stated my ptu was ok but never confirmed it with documentation. i have taken it to private mechanics who could not find any issues saying that the problem is internal. the mechanics i have taken it to in the past year have not come to a solution other than to suggest i wait for a resolution to the recall. The service all wheel drive light came on/off about a year ago and was consistant for several months but has turned off for awhile now.

My Jeep Cherokee(vin [XXX] ) was being flat towed behind a class a motorhome. On 4 separate occasions the front wheels of the jeep started bucking right to left and back to opposite side causing the whole motorhome to violently vibrate. 1) The first time it happened was at about 15 mph while turning left onto a connecting road. It started vibrating so I pulled to side of street and stopped. After getting out and discovering nothing of note I started off and the wobble was gone. 2) Second time was while driving at around 50 mph. There was a bump and grade change in the road and the wobble started. Much more violent than the first. I had to stop while in the traffic lane, with no place to pull over. This time I could see the wobble in the rear camera of the motorhome. Jeep was violently bucking back and forth as before but much stronger. 3) Slower speed at about 20 mph it happended again. Had to come to a stop before it corrected. 4) 40 mph and a very subtle road surface change caused wobble. I disconnected Jeep and drove it by itself to home. Never had an incident other than while being towed. This has happened 4 times in the past 5 trips of around 300 miles each. Since then I have discovered articles about "Jeep Death Wobbles" and have not found any evidence where Jeep has even acknowledged there is an issue. Until I see user manual that mentions a "Mopar Wiring Kit" that needs to be installed. I do not know if this is considered a recall or if is an after thought mentioned in the manual. At any rate the Jeep was sold as a flat towable vehicle and Jeep should stand behind it and install the Mopar fix as a safety fix at no charge to customers who bought it as a flat tow vehicle. After the weekend rain, I went to start the 2017 Jeep Cherokee it did not start. I had the battery car jumped and it started up when driving it the steering wheel locked up. The dashboard started to display antilock brake assist off system, power steering assist off system, service transmission restart in Park with vehicle 0 speed, and so many red lights started flashing afterwards. I was in the car with my children a car that was coming behind me had to swerve around me as my car instantly stopped. This could’ve been a horrific or fatal car accident. I just hit my car check to renew my plates the emissions pass and everything safety was good. With this current situation, I would now have to get my car back to the dealership for further inspection, and will be without a car.

In the first incident, the engine stalled. Next incident, warning lights on the dash appeared (engine light, traction light, and throttle control) and when pressing on the gas peddle, the car would not respond (would not increase speed). I had to put on flashers to a warn car behind me. Very scary. Bringing in for service ASAP.

I brought car in for oil change and was told the R front axle was leaking. Brought it to dealer for repair and told Both that both front and rear axles needed to be replaced along with PTU. Was informed that the that was ordered was cancelled b/c 800 people across the country were looking for the same part. There were no safety warnings. I was told very unsafe to drive b/c front axle came out of PTU.

The vehicle at close to the end of the powertrain warranty of 5 year 60,000 miles had the transmission go out. The actual mileage was 55,733. There were no actual dashlights lights prior to the incident. Basically the vehicle would actually go into reverse. The vehicle was then taken to a repair shop for an expensive replacement. The transmission shifter was also needing replacement. Two wheel sensors also were a problem and were in need of repair.

The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who replaced the transmission shifter. Later while driving, there was smoke coming from under the hood. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 97,000.

W84 Powertrain Software- July 30 2022 Jerry Seiner Casa Grande Dealership technicians inspected and reprogram the PCM and TCM software and closed the recall but 2 months later all the lights on my dashboard came on check engine light service shifter park brake etc. I went back to the dealership and the advisor told me to go to the dealership where I bought it from. I ended up going to Larry Miller Chrysler Jeep Avondale in Arizona. The vehicle was braking on its own while driving high speeds on the highway and while driving I almost crashed. My vehicle was in and out of the dealership many times and the technicians didnt seem to know what was wrong with the vehicle. Almost 6 months after the initial problem it seems its fixed. 01/13/2023 was the last time I had to return because the dashboard lights were turning on after driving the vehicle an estimate of 100 miles.

Every time it rains, water leaks into the rear of the vehicle through the ceiling and cracks on the side. As a result, water is soaking through the ceiling, rear speakers and trunk. This is causing mold and deterioration of all parts below the spare tire and is a safety issue.

The vehicle began making a crunching/grinding sound, and lost some traction/control. It then only would go very slowly even though I was pressing the accelerator, and then the RPM meter was revving up and down even after I took my foot completely off the pedal. After turning it off on the side of the road for about 15 minutes, we were able to drive it home with no further issues. The following week when I went to have it inspected (the first time I drove it since), it made it less than 10 miles before it did the same thing and was unable to be moved this time. We towed it in to have it inspected at a jeep dealership and they confirmed it is a PTU/Transmission issue. I have a video of the second incident if needed.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the rear hatch failed to open as needed. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. On April 19, 2022 the vehicle was taken to the Landmark Dodge Chrysler Jeep at 6850 Mount Zion Blvd, Morrow GA 30260 for software recall update. The customer service rep was asked to check the locked rear liftgate that would not open. He stated it would be $195 just diagnose it. Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram customer service was called prior to the recall appointment and provided no corrective measure. I was advised to ask the dealer when I went in for the software recall update. I cannot access emergency roadside equipment without opening the rear liftgate which makes the vehicle unsafe. I have read several other similar complaints online.

Initially started with parking brake coming on and it took 15 mins of pushing and pulling the button/switch and turning car on and off. Then service air bags light came on. Next was saying passenger and driver seat belts not buckled even tho both were buckled. Then abs light came on. Mechanic determined it was OCR sensor located under center console. Apparently can only get part from jeep and its $400. Ordered and the Jeep wont recognize it so replacement had to be ordered. Now tire pressure light is on as well. Says front driver and rear passenger are low even tho all tires are at 34psi. The seat belt dinging is constant even tho belts are buckled. I have no cruise control. Over past 2 weeks have had the parking brake issue twice. The rest of issues are constant. So now driving around waiting on part with constant worry my parking brake will engage. Other issues are inconvenient and annoying but the brake and airbags are saftey issues. Also my odometer blinks constant too.

Inside on the car's body frame of the driver's side of my 2017 JEEP, there is a sticker that says: THIS VEHICLE MAY INCLUDE MERCURY -- added devices installed by the manufacturer: Video display (which I have to touch to operate the radio and phone call free feature) Navigation/Camera Display (which I have to touch to operate the radio and phone call free feature) HDI Headlamps (which I touch when I wash my car) Remove devices before vehicle's disposal. Upon removal of devices, please reuse, recycle or dispose as hazardous waste. When I travel (on a straight road like Interstate 5 in Washington and Oregon) for more than 3 hours, I get nauseous, dizzy, and do not feel well for hours afterwards. This has been an on-going scenario. I had asked my mechanic to check the AC system, clean all of the vents, and replace the filters and it still did not fix my reaction to driving in the car or being just a passenger. My car completely cut off while driving it on 2 separate occasions on 6/14 & 6/29. I was going 15-20 mph and slowing down for a stop light both times. The car just cut off without any warning. Once I put it in park I was able to start it back up without a problem. I took it to get serviced and the shop said there were multiple faulty computer codes so they reset the system. They advised me to call the dealership to see if there is a recall. I called a dealership and there is not a recall. They told me to bring it in so they could do a diagnostic test and check the fuel system. The earliest appointment at 2 dealerships I called is a month out and if I scheduled a drop-off appointment that could be done in about 7-10 days.

THE CAR HAS A SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT ON AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER ARE LIT RED FOR EXAMPLE THE PARKING, REVERSE, DRIVE, NEUTRAL. THE CAR STARTED DRIVING REALLY ROUGH AND NOW THERE IS A RATTLING NOISE. BOUGHT THE CAR AROUND 1 MONTH AGO AND IT IS ALREADY GIVING PROBLEMS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 19,000 MILES AND WHEN I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM I SEE SEVERAL PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THEN THE DEALER FIXED THE PROBLEM CHARGING SOME PEOPLE BUT THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AS WELL AS CAUSING LEAKS OR OTHER PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING AT HOME THEN WHEN TURNED ON THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THEN TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS WENT OFF A COUPLE TIMES BY RESTARTING THE ENGINE BUT NOW IT ALWAYS STAYS ON AS WELL AS CAUSES A RATTLING NOISE AS WELL AS VERY ROUGH DRIVING.

THE CAR'S CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED WHILE CLIMBING A SLIGHT HILL ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR FAILED TO STOP ACCELERATING AT 60 MPH (SET SPEED LIMIT). THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON NOR PRESSING THE BRAKES WOULD DISENGAGE THE SYSTEM. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS, THE CAR ACCELERATED TO 75 MPH AND FINALLY DISENGAGED. THIS WAS DURING THE NIGHT, WITH MODERATE RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY 16 NEAR PORT ORCHARD, WA. SINCE JANUARY OF 2018 I HAVE BEEN HAVING CONSTANT PROBLEMS INTERNALLY WITH MY JEEP. I GOT THE JEEP IN APRIL OF 2017 WITH 14 MILES TOTAL ON IT. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP NEVER ROTATED MY TIRES WHEN THEY CHANGED MY OIL AND TOLD ME THEY DID ROTATE MY TIRES RESULTING IN ME HAVING TO GET A BRAND NEW SET OF 4 TIRES IN 2018 BECAUSE ALL THE TIRES WENT COMPLETELY BALD (TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON). MY FIRST OF 4 CYLINDERS WENT OUT IN JANUARY 2019 THAT WAS FIXED ON WARRANTY. SECOND CYLINDER OF 4 THAT WAS A DIFFERENT CYLINDER THAN THE FIRST WENT OUT FEBRUARY OF 2019 THE JEEP DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A GOOD YEAR PROGRAM AND MADE ME PAY A FEE AND THEY FIXED ALL 4 CYLINDERS. CURRENTLY IN NOVEMBER 2019 MY ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON AND I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS NOW. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL JEEP DEALERSHIPS THAT HAS NOT SEEN THIS ISSUE ON OTHER JEEPS SO I REALLY BELIEVE I GOT SOLD A POORLY MANUFACTURED JEEP.

I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY JEEP SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE ON THE ENTRANCE RAMP. MY CAR DISPLAY FLASHED THE BATTERY SYMBOL AS WELL AS THE OIL LIFE SYMBOL (OIL LIFE WAS AT 55% ACCORDING TO VEHICLE DISPLAY). IT TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE MY JEEP WOULD START AGAIN. I AM UNSURE IF THE EXACT CAUSE BUT I WOULD ASSUME THAT IT IS A SAFETY FEATURE TO PROTECT THE ENGINE, HOWEVER IT PUT ME IN A SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE EASILY COST ME MY LIFE.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE INVOLVED IN A 4 CAR PILE UP ON THE 3 LANE HIGHWAY. TRAFFIC ABRUPTLY STOPPED SEVERAL CARS IN FRONT OF US ON THE HIGHWAY AND CARS WERE SWERVING TO MISS THE TRAFFIC STOPPED. THE 2 CARS IN FRONT OF US AND OUR CAR WERE ALL ABLE TO GET STOPPED WITHOUT HITTING EACH OTHER. WE WERE STATIONARY (STOPPED) WHEN WE HEARD SQUEALING TIRES AND WERE REAR ENDED BY A F250 HAULING A TRAILER FULL OF FIREWOOD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THIS TRUCK THEN PUSHED US FORWARD INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US. WHICH THEN PUSHED THAT CAR INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF IT. SO, OUR VEHICLE WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AND THEN IN THE FRONT. THERE IS SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, AND IT HAS BEEN DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE. MY CONCERN IS THAT NOT ONE AIRBAG DEPLOYED DURING THIS ACCIDENT. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK PROPERLY. IT WAS PULLED ALMOST ALL THE WAY OUT AND THEN LOCKED. MY HUSBAND IS NOT A BIG GUY SO IT SHOULD OF LOCKED RATHER QUICKLY AND NOT AT THE END OF THE BELT. AS A RESULT, OF THE MALFUNCTIONING EQUIPMENT MY HUSBAND FLEW FORWARD HITTING HIS FACE AND CHEST ON THE STEERING WHEEL. HE DID SUSTAIN INJURIES TO HIS FACE AND BODY FROM THE ACCIDENT. MY 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH LITTLE UNDER 45,000 STALLED THIS MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK. THE CAR LOST STEERING/BRAKING CONTROL. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND STATED I NEEDED TO SHIFT TO PARK THEN TO DESIRED GEAR. MY JEEP WOULD NOT RUN AT THIS POINT. I HAD TO WAIT A GOOD 5 MINUTES UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO ATTEMPT STARTING MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE IT DID NOT START ON THE FIRST 2 TRIES. THE 3RD TIME IT FINALLY STARTED. FURTHERMORE, AFTER LETTING MY VEHICLE SIT AND COOL ONCE I GOT TO MY WORK LOCATION WHICH IS 40 MILES AWAY. I AND ANOTHER CO WORKER CHECKED THE OIL, AND THE OIL BARELY REGISTERED ON THE DIPSTICK. I WILL BE GOING TO GET THE OIL CHANGED AGAIN SINCE THE OIL WAS DARK AND SMELLED BURNT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD ISSUED WITH THE JEEP CHEROKEE. THE OTHER INSTANCE ALL THE SHIFTING GEARS ON THE CONSOLE LITE UP AND A MESSAGE ON THE DASH STATED TO SHIFT INTO THE DESIRED GEAR. THIS TOO HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS IS UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY IN THE FIRST INSTANCE WHEREAS YOU LOSE ALL CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE FOUR TIMES, BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.

AT THIS POINT MY VEHICLE JUST COMPLETELY STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS, A VEHICLE (EVEN WITHOUT A RECENT OIL CHANGE, LET ALONE A VEHICLE THAT IS UP TO DATE ON OIL CHANGES AND HASN'T HIT THE 5,000 MILE MARKER) SHOULD NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. OBVIOUSLY OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. AT ANY POINT, I FEEL AS THOUGH MY VEHICLE MIGHT STOP WORKING ON ME AT A RANDOM TIME (AGAIN WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER) AND CAUSE ME TO BE IN A SEVER ACCIDENT. THIS IS NOT A MATTER TO TAKE LIGHTLY, I HAVE BEEN CONTACTING MY DEALERSHIP AND HAVE YET TO HAVE ANY HELP/ ISSUES RESOLVED.

VEHICLE HAS JUST SHUT OFF APPROX 10 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. SOMETIMES ITS 'DINGS' WHILE DRIVING NORMAL AND DOES NOT STALL BUT MOST OF THE TIME ITS STALLS AS DRIVING. EITHER IVE JUST PULLED OUT ONTO A ROAD OR MADE A TURN. THE CAR WILL JUST SHUT OFF AND SAYS TO PUT IN CORRECT GEAR. THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OVER AND RESTART FOR APPROX 10 MINUTES. VERY VERY DANGEROUS!!!!!

CAR ROLLED INTO INTERSECTION. I FLIPPED OVER TO TIPTRONIC W/O RESPONSE, SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND BACK W/O RESPONSE, KIDS IN BACKSEAT WHILE CAR IS STALLED PERPENDICULAR TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. TURNED HAZARDS ON, SHIFTED TO PARK AND BACK, NO RESPONSE, ROLLED TO SIDE OF ROAD AT THIS POINT. PUT CAR BACK IN PARK, COUNTED TO FIVE, SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE, AND CAR RESPONDED. 5/12/18 5084M FIANC DRIVING, CITY STREET 45MPH. MAKING LEFT TURN ACROSS 3 ONCOMING LANES FROM STOP, CAR AGAIN SLIPPED FROM GEAR AND FLASHED MESSAGE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK AND THEN BACK TO DRIVE. FIANC SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO DRIVE W/O RESPONSE. I TURNED ON HAZARDS, HE SHIFTS CAR INTO PARK AND COUNTED A FEW SECONDS BEFORE PUTTING IT PARK IN DRIVE AND PULLING OFF THE ROAD. DEALERSHIP CLOSED. 5/14/18 DROPPED CAR OFF AT JEEP 5/22/18 VM FROM JEEP, THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS 5/23/18 JEEP CALLED, COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, FILED A REPORT W/CHRYSLER, TESTED GROUNDING, AND CONCLUDED IT WAS A "FLUKE IN THE SYSTEM". ASKED ME TO PICK UP THE CAR DESPITE NOT MAKING REPAIR. "IF YOU HAVE ISSUES BRING IT BACK".

I HAVE NOT EVEN OWNED MY VEHICLE A YEAR NOW. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH STEERING SHAKING OR PULLING. I WENT TO GET MY TIRES ROTATED FOR THE FIRST TIME AT A LOCAL DEALER AND THEY STATED THE ALL 4 OF MY TIRES HAD ALL IRREGULAR WEAR ON THEM ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES ONLY. IT WAS BELIEVED TO BE A DEFECT FROM THE BEGINNING WITH THE ALIGNMENT OR ANOTHER STEERING ISSUE THAT HAS CAUSED SUCH IRREGULAR WEAR (INCLUDING THE REARS). PER YOUR WARRANTY THE TIRES ARE TO BE ROTATED EVERY 6,000 MILES. I HAD THEM ROTATED AT 7,292 MILES IN WHICH WHEN BROUGHT INTO DO A WARRANTY CLAIM JEEP CLAIMS THAT I DIDN'T DO THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PER THE WARRANTY CLAIM SO THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. MY VEHICLE NOW HAS OVER 12,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS ALSO TOLD IF IT WAS AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE THAT THIS IS ONLY COVERED UNTIL 12,000 MILES. I AM VERY UNSATISFIED WITH MY WARRANTY AND DO BELIEVE THIS WAS A DEFECT WITH ALL 4 OF MY TIRES WITH SUCH IRREGULAR WEAR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE WAS DRIVING 65 MPH, THE SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE, SPUN AROUND SEVERAL TIMES, AND CRASHED INTO A TRACTOR TRAILER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE SUSTAINED A BRUISED KNEE AND A CONCUSSION, BUT DID NOT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
