UNKNOWN Was clearing my car of snow and had the defroster on when I smelled a burning smell coming from I assume the engine.

Vehicle has just over 110,000 miles and the vehicle burns oil like crazy. Piston rings typically last 150,000 miles. Started running low on old 5,000 miles ago. I’ve looked online and found more incidences like mine and are happening around the same mileage. This can cause major engine damage if left untreated. I feel it’s worth an investigation to save people from future issues like this. Vehicles should last well over 100,000 miles without major engine repair like piston rings. Unfortunately I have no documentation to prove this I have no money to take it to the shop but I’ve changed the oil about 4 times in the past 3 months. It sounds like maintenance needs to be carried out but I can assure you that something this major should not be happening at 110,000 miles. Thank you for your time

This complaint is in regard to a safety recall (NHTSA Recall# 23V652) of our 2013 Kia Rio. On November of 2023, we received an interim notice in the mail about a Kia Rio recall. The recall occurred in September 2023, two months earlier. The notice detailed that the Rio had a safety risk of an engine fire while parked or driving. Owners were advised to limit their driving and park their cars outdoors away from other cars or buildings until the part is available. This is not an option for us. The part is still not available, five months after the recall. Our Rio has been sitting in our driveway, next to the house, since November 2023 and we're still paying auto insurance on it. We do not feel safe driving it, nor keeping it parked close to the house. It has been a hardship for our family to have one less vehicle to drive. I have written a complaint to Kia corporate and have not heard anything back from them. So far Kia's only resolution to this delay is for consumers to just wait for the part. That is unacceptable.

The contact stated that the failure once occurred while driving approximately 50 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 150,000. The contact called to make an appointment with Quirk Kia in Manchester. I own a 2013 Kia Rio While driving my regular speed limit, my car stopped working. I heard a loud knocking sound coming from the engine compartment and it also sounded like something was lose. I tried having the car jumped but it would not start. I had to get it towed to a mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle as the starter needed replacement, oil was leaking, and oil pan gasket need to be replaced. It was also noted there was internal engine damage, but I was not notified about this before the other repairs were done & approved by me. I also had my car in the shop for the same issue on January 24, 2022 and had an oil changed then but the issue was not fixed. The repair work was completed both times but the issues was not fixed. I was informed that I needed a new motor/engine. I only have 87,000 miles on my car.. All other models have been recalled already due to engine knocking because of carbon build up. I need Kia Corporate to right the wrong & do a Recall on 2013 Kia Rio or approved me for a free engine replacement. The engines are faulty. The AC is inoperable & need to be replaced. The tech. noted on piece of paper that both cv axle boots are torn, ECM codes, PO335 Crankshaft Position Sensor, PO011 Intake Crankshaft Position Sensor, PO014 Exhaust Crankshaft Sensor, PO441 Evap Purge Valve Soildroid. The engine wasn't replaced & no further work was completed. Engine failure 87,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Rio. The contact stated when he started the vehicle, he noticed that the air bag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the air bag sensor on the driver’s side needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted but a diagnostic test was not preformed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000.

AIR BAG LIGHT ON DRIVERS SIDE FLASHES AND THEN STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING. UNDERSTAND KIA IS AWARE OF PROBLEM BUT HAS DONE NOTHING TO HELP CONSUMERS. THIS IS SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AS AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT.

Question answers in order: INCIDENT DATE/LOCATION: July 28, 2023 Glastonbury, CT 1. UNKNOWN which component or system failed/malfunctioned. Fire began under hood of vehicle. Vehicle is a total loss. Vehicle has been released to Copart in New Britain, CT. 2. The car caught on fire while I was inside. Escaped without injury. Burned in close proximity to other vehicles before they were moved. Glastonbury, CT 3. UNKNOWN if this problem was reproducible 4. The vehicle was inspected by the fire marshal, police, and insurance company. UNKNOWN if Kia assessed the damage. Police Case #[XXX] Glastonbury Police Department Glastonbury, CT 5. No check engine lights or warning indicators. Thieves stole my and others cars by breaking the passenger window and climbing in and starting the car with a usb stick. What in the world is that ? Like how does your alarm not sound when a window is broken if the alarm is working A1

The contact stated that after receiving a notice of a recall, the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for the recall repair; however, several days later, the contact experienced intermittent difficulty starting the vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle occasionally stalled while coming to a stop. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the battery was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 157,000.

Dealer has failed to remedy recall 23V652 in a reasonable amount of time. Received the original recall notice dated April 10, 2024. Immediately scheduled an appointment with the dealer. Dealer fixed another outstanding recall but said they didn't have the part for the 23V652 recall. Contacted the dealer several times since and they say they don't have the part to fix the recall and will get back when they do. Contacted Kia and explained the situation. They said they'd get back. Never heard from them. This is a recall for a fire hazard. It was dated April 10, 2024. It is now September 10, 2024.

I HAVE A 2013 KIA RIO SX RED, MANUAL 6-SPEED. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE ROLLING BACK WITH PARKING BREAK FULLY ENGAGED. VEHICLE ROLLS BACK ON SURFACES WITH NOT MUCH OF AN INCLINE AT ALL. NO INCIDENTS OR ACCIDENTS REPORTED. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, TURNED OFF, GEAR IN NEUTRAL (HOWEVER I HAVE BEEN LATELY LEAVING IT IN 1ST GEAR IF FEAR IS TO ROLL BACK), PARKING BREAK FULLY ENGAGED. HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS.

CAR HAS 62,000 MILES, REAR BRAKE WENT OUT FIRST, UPON INSPECTION, ON THE RIGHT SIDE WENT OUT, ON THE SIDE OF THE PADDING THERE WAS METAL TO METAL, MIDDLE PART HAD MINIMAL HAIR LINE MINIMAL OF PADDING LEFT HOWEVER THE LEFT ONE STILL HAD HALFWAY PADDING, PRETTY GOOD, ROTOR WOULD NOT TURN, BRAKES HAD STAYED IN PLACE FOR A LONG TIME, WHEEL CYLINDER APPEARS TO BE DEFECTIVE, CANNOT PLACE A NEW BRAKE PAD, DUE TO THE PISTON CONSTANTLY COMING OUT, 2 MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND ONE OF THEM DID SUCCESSFUL GET THE BRAKE PADS IN PLACE AND PLACED THE CALIPER BACK, HOWEVER, THE ROTOR WOULD NOT TURN, MEANING MY BRAKES WOULD STAY IN PLACE ALL THE TIME THUS, HAVING TO FORCE THE CAR TO MOVE. MECHANIC SAYS THAT I HAD BEEN DRIVING WITH THE BRAKES SET AT THE SAME TIME, AND WHAT WAS ODD FOR HIM WAS THAT ONLY ONE SIDE GAVE OUT SOONER THAN THE OTHER, WHEN IT FACT IT SHOULD BE THE FRONT ONES TO GIVE OUT FIRST AND THEN THE REAR ONES BUT NO, ONLY 1 SIDE FROM THE REAR GAVE OUT, THE FRONT ONES HAD REALLY GOOD PADDING LEFT. BUT THIS POSES A BIG ISSUE FOR ME, SAFETY ISSUE, FOR ME AND MY FAMILY WHEN WE ARE IN THE CAR, IT COULD LIGHT UP IN FLAMES, BURST MY TIRE, SPARK UP, PLEASE HELP. I HAD TO PUT THE USED BRAKE PADS FROM THE LEFT SIDE ONTO THE RIGHT SIDE TO AT LEAST HAVE SOME PADDING, NEW ONES CANNOT BE PLACED BECAUSE AS SOON AS I PLACE THE CLAMP TO PUSH THE PISTON IN, AND I REMOVE IT, IT COMES RIGHT OUT, IT SEEMS LIKE THERES SOME PRESSURE THERE. I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS TO BE COVERED IN THE WARRANTY BUT IM SURE THIS IS NOT ONLY HAPPENING TO ME, PLEASE HELP!!!!

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Rio. The contact had notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair. The recall repair was performed; however, while starting the vehicle the check engine, ABS, and oil warning lights and several other unknown warning lights illuminated. While attempting to turn the steering wheel, there was a lot of resistance in the steering wheel and while pressing the brake pedal the brake pedal went to the floorboard and lost power brakes functionality. The contact checked the brake fluid level, and the vehicle was returned to the dealer. The contact was informed that there repair had not worked, and resetting the fuse had failed. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 114,928.

JUST BOUGHT A 2013 RIO WITH 28,000 MILES ON IT ON 9/2/16. THE CAR SAT IN OUR DRIVEWAY ALL LAST WEEK BECAUSE WE WERE ON VACATION, SO WE MAYBE PUT 100 MILES ON IT AND DROVE IT 4 TIMES. DROVE 20 MINUTES ROUND TRIP TO THE POST OFFICE YESTERDAY, PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND WENT BACK INTO HOUSE TO WORK. WIFE CAME HOME FROM WORK ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER AND CAME RUNNING IN THE HOUSE SAYING THE NEW CAR IS ON FIRE. CALLED 911 AND BEFORE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO GET THERE, THE FLAMES WERE AS HIGH AS OUR SECOND FLOOR WINDOWS. CAR WAS PARKED ABOUT 10-15 FEET AWAY FROM HOUSE, BUT THE HEAT DAMAGED PART OF OUR HOUSE AS WELL. I HAVE CONTACTED INSURANCE, BUT I REALLY FEEL THIS IS A KIA ISSUE / PROBLEM, AND WE REALLY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO USE INSURANCE TO REPLACE THE CAR. THIS CAR IS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURE WARRANTY, AND THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. THEN LAST NIGHT AFTER THE TOW COMPANY CAME, WE STARTED RESEARCHING THIS AND HAVE FOUND MANY, MANY 2012-2014 KIA'S DOING THIS. I LOGGED A COMPLAINT ON YOUR KIA'S WEBSITE, BUT HAVE NOT GOT A RESPONSE BACK YET, AND YES, I FEEL I SHOULD GET A RESPONSE OVER THE WEEKEND. OUR CAR BURST INTO FLAMES, DAMAGED PART OF OUR HOUSE FROM THE HEAT, AND IT COULD OF BEEN MUCH WORSE, ESPECIALLY IF I PARKED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE YESTERDAY. WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HEAR FROM KIA, OR OTHER OWNERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THAT WITH ALL OF THE GOOGLE HITS ABOUT KIA'S CATCHING FIRE, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON ANY OF THE MODELS THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, AND GET THEM EITHER FIXED, OR OFF OF THE ROAD, AT KIA'S EXPENSE.

On July 17, 2025, shortly before 4am, my son's 2013 Kia Rio caught fire, while sitting in the driveway turned off, and was totally destroyed. The car was parked in the driveway at his house and there were not any warning signs before it happened. On June 10, 2024 we had the HECU fuse replaced through a recall that could cause a fire. After we had it "fixed" we had no idea that it could still catch on fire! My son could have been in the car when this happened or other structures could have caught on fire! The fire department was called to put the fire out and the car was inspected by Kia and by our insurance company. Kia does not care that we had the part replaced and that the car STILL caught on fire. They have stated that they will not do one thing about it. They didn't offer a rental car, removal of the burned car or any money to replace the car. I do not know how they get away with this especially when the fire inspector for Kia told me that they knew that changing the fuse wasn't a "fix" but it would hopefully short the fuse before a fire would start! So they knew it was still possible! Kia should not be allowed to manufacture cars!! As of the past week, Kia will not even return my phone calls.

Fire under the hood. It's available for inspection. I opened the hood after seeing smoke and the fire blew up but I wasn't hurt. The fire department put the fire out and wrote report. I called my insurance company and got a claim for it. They said it's most likely going to be a total loss after they examine it every where. I took it to Kia for servicing on September 11,2023 and I told them I had a little whining noise but they didn't say it was anything that could be fatal. Did this car have a recall for anything?

On 04/07/22, I took my vehicle into Covina Valley KIA to replace a fuel line that had melted being constructed too close to the engine. About a month before the line, I noticed smoke was coming from under the hood. Other parts were too close to the GDi engine and were melting, and/or burning. For instance, the ignition coil/engine wire(s) cluster plastic holder which is mounted on the engine, was melting, breaking, and burning. Also the foam from the engine cover had caught fire. My car had also been throwing a knock sensor code p0326 every year. Replace it each time. Then the last time I fixed it, I got another p0326 that changed into fuel too rich code p2192. I inquired to KIA Management about the 2015 Service Bulletin: SB-10089747-5448 concerning the constant codes. But manager said that a ECU Upgrade may not help and to come down just to clear the codes to see if that helped. The car has been maintained, oil/filter changes 3,000 miles and I am the second owner. But these problems occurred without warning. Bad manufacturing, had to also replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve, Fuel Feed Pipe, and all four Injectors due to melted plastic making it into the Delivery Rail from the melted Fuel Line which is plastic. Will attached my service bill and main receipts for parts bought to rectify this problem.

Slowed down on highway as there was a backup from an exit, then accelerated again and car would not accelerate correctly. Engine light came on and then turned off as I exited off the highway. I turned the car off once safely parked. Burning smell was noted. Car would not start and was towed to auto shop where it was checked and deemed as an internal engine failure.

THE DEALER (BOB BELL KIA OF BALTIMORE, 7900 EASTERN AVE #1, BALTIMORE, MD 21224, (410) 288-2500) INITIALLY DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A WRENCH UNDER THE HOOD, BUT HAD BEEN THE ONLY REPAIR FACILITY SERVICING A VEHICLE, THE SECOND TIME, THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. DURING THE THIRD REPAIR, THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH. ALSO, THE SERVICE ENGINE INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED WITHIN LESS THAN 30 DAYS OF THE THIRD REPAIR FROM THE DEALER WITH NO REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INSPECTION STATION WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A SENSOR RELATED TO THE THROTTLE. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED 15 TSBS ON THE ENGINE, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6.

My 2013 KIA Rio began dying while I was driving it in mid January 2024. Approximately three weeks after this began occurring, my oil pressure sensor light started flickering when I would turn the corner. As soon as I got home, I checked the oil and it was empty. I had not previously experienced this and always kept up with the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. The incidences of my car dying while driving have increased while I waited to get into the dealership to have it checked (it was a one week wait and there were no earlier appointments available. I took my car to Suntrup KIA South. Service Advisor Brian Richter texted me to ask if he could call me. During our phone conversation, he stated that this is a known issue with KIA vehicles excessively burning oil, which then causes the catalytic converter to clog and the engine to die. It is a fatal flaw and there is no fix other than to replace the engine, which I would have to pay for. He said KIA extended certain warranties, but mine was not one of them. The last time I drove my car before taking it to the dealership, I barely missed getting hit when my car stopped while turning a corner and there was a car behind me. I found information indicating that a class action lawsuit had previously been filed, but was dropped by the class with no details given as to the reason. I now have to buy a car because it will cost more to replace the engine than the car is worth. It only has 107,000 miles on it. I would appreciate any help or advice that you can offer. Thank you.

We purchased a very low miles (42K) Kia from the dealer as a 2nd owner. In less than 6 months the car has serious safety issues. The vehicle shuts off and stalls while idling at stop lights, stop signs or slow traffic with no warning. All other powered components like radio, lights etc remain on and functioning. The car is hard to start after the vehicle shuts off and has stalled and takes multiple tries to turn over. When accelerating the vehicle will randomly not respond at all to the gas pedal, will not increase speed, RPM will not move and the car will not respond. When the car does accelerate, it will sputter and rpm will increase dramatically. This is very dangerous to those driving and those on the road. If the vehicle does not respond to acceleration the risk to the driver and occupants is serious. There could be an accident from oncoming traffic both rear and from behind. There is great life threatening risk. Local mechanic stated the car throws no codes when diagnosed, and there is no check engine light on. Kia knows their vehicles have this issue and has recalled many other models in the same years. There are multiple identical NHTSA.GOV complaints noting identical vehicle problems. The problem is not able to be found with diagnostic. The KIA RIO should be recalled and repaired immediately. The car was sold with serious safety issues. There was a class action even that did not proceed that alleges the gamma engines cause sudden stalling, excessive oil consumption, engine failures and fires in the vehicles.

I was driving home one night and my brakes stopped working, then all the lights on my dashboard came on. Thankfully I was able to pull over safely off the freeway exit and another car pulled over next to me to let me know my car was on fire. The fire looked like it was in the center bottom of the car. I lifted the hood to the front of the car. There were two bystanders who were able to get a bucket of water and put the fire out before it got too big. There is no visible damage to the outside of the car.

DEFECTIVE ENGINE OVERHEAT WARNING SYSTEM THIS VEHICLE, 2013 KIA RIO, 1.6L GDI, 6-SPEED MANUAL, DOES NOT HAVE A COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE. IT SUPPOSEDLY RELIES ON ONE WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO INDICATE AN OVERHEATED ENGINE, A LIGHT WHOSE CORRECT OPERATION CANNOT BE VERIFIED. THIS SUPPOSED ENGINE OVERHEAT WARNING LIGHT NEVER COMES ON DURING THE LIGHT BULB CHECK PHASE, SO THAT THE OPERATION OF ITS LIGHT BULB CANNOT BE VERIFIED. NOTE THAT THE OTHER WARNING LIGHTS, OIL PRESSURE, BRAKES, ETC COME ON DURING THIS PHASE AND THEIR WARNING SYSTEMS CAN BE VERIFIED. IF THE OVERHEAT LIGHT BULB FILAMENT BURNS OUT (THIS FREQUENTLY HAPPENS WITH ANY BULB), THEN THE DRIVER IS NEVER GIVEN A CHANCE TO VERIFY THE BULBS OPERATION, AND THIS ENGINE OVERHEAT WARNING SYSTEM BECOMES USELESS AS THERE CANNOT BE ANY WARNING INDICATION EVER GIVEN TO THE DRIVER IF THE ENGINE DOES OVERHEAT. I drove to a local store while my friend went shopping I remained in the vehicle and let it idle I proceeded to drive away to head home and the car started having idle and throttle malfunction to where there was no gas peddle response and eventually car died I barely got to a parking lot nearby restarted car and same symptoms occurred I was able to give it enough throttle to creep down the road i Had to keep restarting motor to get it to move at to which it finally wouldn’t move at all, prior it was leaking oil severely out the bottom what looked like near the oil filter, it now starts and dies immediately with no gas peddle response won’t even rev up to a idle

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH WITH ONE OTHER PERSON IN THE VEHICLE, WHEN THERE WAS A COMBINATION OF WHIRRING, CLICKING, AND BANGING SOUNDS FROM THE ENGINE. AS WE PULLED OFF ON THE EXIT IT SOUNDED AS IF PARTS WERE FALLING OUT FROM UNDER THE CAR, BUT WHEN WE LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR THERE WAS NO DEBRIS ON THE ROAD. WHEN WE PULLED INTO THE REST AREA AND PARKED THE CAR TO CHECK IT OUT AND BEGIN THE PROCESS OF GETTING A TOW TRUCK BEFORE THE CAR HAD US STRANDED AND BROKE DOWN, SMOKE BEGAN OMITTING FROM THE HOOD AND IT GOT THICKER AND FLAMES BEGAN COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD MAINLY ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR UNTIL IT HAD SPREAD TO BOTH SIDES AND BEGAN TRAVELING INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. CAR WAS IN GOOD SHAPE, WITH ONLY A NEED FOR AN OIL CHANGE WHEN THE PROBLEM AND FIRE BEGAN. FIRE CREWS ARRIVED AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. ENGINE LIGHT DID TURN ON AND AND START BLINKING AS WE GOT ON THE EXIT RAMP. CAR WAS TURNED OFF AT THE TIME THE SMOKE AND FIRE BEGAN. MOST OF THE DAMAGE SUSTAINED WAS ON THE DRIVES SIDE OF THE CABIN AND ALL OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND ENGINE AREA. AT APPROXIMATELY 40K MILES THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED AN ANNOYING PING & POWER LOSS, (DEAD SPOT), WHEN ACCELERATING UP A HILL OR INTO A CORNER. DEALER 1ST TOLD ME THAT AFTER AN EXTENSIVE TEST DRIVE NO TROUBLE WAS FOUND, HOWEVER THE MILEAGE WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHEN I BROUGHT CAR INTO SHOP, OBVIOUSLY TEST DRIVE WAS NOT PERFORMED, HAD THE MECHANIC COME FOR A RIDE WITH ME, NOISE WAS APPARENT IMMEDIATELY ALTHOUGH MECHANIC DID HIS BEST NOT TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT UNTIL I TOOK A TURN ONTO A STEEP INCLINE WHERE NOISE BECAME QUITE PREVALENT & MECHANIC DID ACKNOWLEDGE IT & STATED THAT IT WAS THE GDI PUMP WHICH WE THEN SCHEDULED TO HAVE REPLACED. SHORTLY BEFORE MY SCHEDULED REPLACEMENT THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED THEIR MIND & NOW SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO A CARBON BUILD UP & SUGGESTED THAT I USE TOP TIER GAS & A FUEL ADDITIVE @ 7,500 MILE INTERVALS, (TECHRON WAS RECOMMENDED), HOWEVER I'VE ALWAYS USED TOP TIER GAS, MOSTLY PURCHASED @ SHELL. DEALERSHIP THEN DECIDED THAT A FUEL SYSTEM FLUSH WAS THE WAY TO GO, WHICH THEY PERFORMED @ NO CHARGE IN AUGUST LAST YEAR. FLUS DIDN'T HELP & I CALLED DEALERSHIP AFTER TRAVELING LESS THAN 2 MILES AFTER THE FLUSH, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD TAKE A WHILE FOR THE NOISE TO GO AWAY & THE POWER LOSS TO WORK ITSELF OUT & RECOMMENDED TO CONTINUE USING THE TOP TIER GAS, AS I ALWAYS HAD & TO ADD THE TECHRON @ PRESCRIBED INTERVALS WHICH I DID. NEVER GOT IT ABOUT A MONTH LATER CALLED LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP THEY SAID MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR AIRBAGS AND DID NOT FIX IT WHEN I HAD THEM LOOK AT IT. The dealer was notified of the failure and charged a fee for diagnostic testing; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.

driver door lock has stopped responding to the key fob and the door no longer unlocks with the key. the key works, but only unlocks the other doors, even when used on the driver side. The driver side lock also does not respond to the inside buttons for unlocking the door. all three other doors work, but not the driver side. dealer was unable to fix.

I received a letter from KIA corporation that they would voluntarily replace a part (the clockspring assembly) in the steering wheel shaft as the malfunction would impair the proper functioning of the air bags, in the letter they stated specifically that this would not cost me any money out pocket including the diagnostic, I took the car to one of their dealers and they refused to service my vehicle if I did not pay upfront. I called another of their dealers but they also said I would have to pay for the diagnostic. I then called corporate and also corresponded with them via email but they did not solve the problem. Ever since I have been involved in two separate collisions and the air bags did not deploy, also the horn stop functioning and after doing some online research I found out it also depends on the part that was supposed to be replaced to function, the steering wheel control such as cruise control etc. also stopped working. Corporate has not gotten back to me and I feel they are just going to let it die out and not do anything about it. Meanwhile I am driving the vehicle without air bags, horn and steering wheel controls. I have no choice because my family only owns this vehicle. Please let me know what I need to do to get help to get a solution for this issue/s. thank you. Note: At this moment I only have information related to one of the collisions but I could provide for the other if need be. I was sitting behind a S.U.V . when it started to move i doubt if we were going 5 miles I slightly moved my steering wheel not even a half a turn to move straight behind the S.U.V. My car shot to the right jumped a curb, hit a pole, thru two trees down a hill and into a fence. when it was all said and done my car wouldn't stop, my airbag never deployed and my car was totaled. i kept asking if there was a way this car could be examined.the insurance company took the car.i had started having problems prior to this incident that started around the end of May. but before that the car ran pretty good and only had 52,000 miles.1st it wouldn't start after driving it for a while. you would have to wait a few minutes and it would restart. So my husband took it to our mechanic. he couldn't find anything wrong and it even passed inspection. About a week and a half later i am driving and the car just stopped while I am driving no power.I finally get it to start again.get it to a safer place and called AAA towing. they towed it to Kia. they replaced some type of sensor i believe it was a crank.it ran smooth but it still didn't feel right.it had a hard time pulling hills and the acceleration wasn't right. it kept losing acceleration like it was going to stop on me again then it would seem to kick back in. I had planned that Weekend to take it up to pep boys for diagnostics and take it back to Kia to see what was wrong with it. but I had the incident that friday . i uploaded a police report. and i do have repair ,inspection & and tow bill if needed

THE NEXT MORNING, I WENT TO CHECK ON MY KIA RIO AND FOUND TRANSMISSION FLUID ALL OVER THE GROUND. I CALLED MY INSURANCE AND REPORTED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THEY SAID I SHOULD CONTACT KIA CORPORATION AND REPORT THE AIR BAG FAILURE I DID AS REQUESTED. THEN HURRICANE HARVEY HIT THE AREA AND DELAYED ANY ACTIONS TAKEN. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK KIA TOWED THE CAR TO THEIR LOT FOR INSPECTION. KIA ASKED WHAT I WANTED, I REPLIED REPAIR OR REPLACE MY DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. THEY WROTE A REPAIR COST ESTIMATED AT $9200.00 AND SAID THAT THE AIR BAG WAS NOT A RECALL ITEM AND DENIED MY CLAIM AFTER ANOTHER WEEK PASSED. I HAD TO FILE THE CLAIM ON MY INSURANCE AT THAT TIME AND SEND IT TO ANOTHER SHOP FOR INSPECTION. ANOTHER WEEK PASSED BEFORE MY INSURANCE FILED IT A TOTAL LOSS. AFTER ALL THIS LOST TIME FROM WORK AND RENTAL COST EXPENSES THAT HAVE YET TO BE REIMBURSED. AFTER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF REPAIR INCLUDING MAF SENSOR, ALL O2 SENSORS, AND A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER THE PROBLEM REMAINS. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE A CAR THAT LUNGES AND THEN LOSES POWER UNEXPECTEDLY. A CAR LIKE THIS COULD KILL SOMEBODY. THE MANUFACTURER SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THE SECOND IS SOMETHING WITH THE STARTER, BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, ETC. I USE THE WORD "SOMETHING" BECAUSE NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO PINPOINT WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. I BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY ON MAY 18, 2015. POST THAT BATTERY PURCHASE, THE CAR DID NOT START ON JUNE 27, 2015 (I HAD TO GET A JUMP). THIS NO CRANK WAS POST A BATTERY, STARTER AND ALTERNATOR CHECK BY THE DEALERSHIP ON MAY 23, 2015. BY THE WAY, THE TESTS ALL CAME BACK FINDING NO FAULT. I HAD TWO MORE NO CRANK SITUATIONS ON JULY 19 AND AUGUST 2, 2015. I'VE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER JULY 19 AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY KIA THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN IT'S HOT. I DON'T BELIEVE THEM BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN THE HELL OF ST. WHENEVER CAR IS RUNNING WOULD HERE A KNOCKING OR RATTLING SOUND,HAD TOO REPLACE PARKING LIGHT BULBS THREE TIMES IN FIRST YEAR THEY BURNT OUT AND ON THREE OTHER OCCASIONS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD KICK ON AND WHEN I WOULD GET CAR TO SERVICE CENTER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO BACK OUT AND THEY WOULD WANT TO CHARGE ME TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC IF NOTHING SHOWED AFTER THEY RAN IT ALSO SAID MY WARRANTY WOULDN'T COVER FAULTY IGNITION AND DOOR LOCK FIRST MY DOOR LOCKS STARTED GETTING JAMMED AND I ASSUMED THAT MAYBE SOMEONE HAD TRIED TO BREAK INTO CAR BUT THEN MY CAR WAS IN REPAIR SHOP ON A UNRELATED ISSUE MY REPAIR GUY CALLS AND TELLS ME MY IGNITION AND KEY ARE STUCK BETWEEN ACC AND START AND WOULDN'T COME OUT OR TURN THE REST OF THE WAY ON OR OFF ALSO HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR AIR FILTER REPLACEMENT ON CAR AT SIX MONTHS OLD AND THE LABOR BECAUSE IT WASN'T PART OF EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN THE KEY THEN HAS BEEN LITTLE TRICKY HAVING TO PUT IN AT A ANGLE KINDA AND NOW ITS STUCK AGAIN IN BETWEEN ACC AND START AGAIN SO REPAIR GUY DID SOME SEARCHING AND FOUND THAT SOMETIMES IF YOU DISCONNECT THE NEG BAT CABLE IT WILL RELEASE THE IGNITION AND THAT IT COULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE GEAR SHIFT NOT IN GAUGING INTO PARK ALL THE WAY EVEN THOUGH THE SHIFTER SAYS IT IS AND THE SHIFTER WONT GO UP ANYMORE THERE SEEMS TO BE ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER WITH THIS CAR OH AND I ALSO BURNED MYSELF LEANING AGAINST FRONT QUARTER PANEL BUT THE HOOD ITS SELF WAS COOL TO THE TOUCH. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA RIO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE CABIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE AC CONDENSER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS 22,500.

JOE MYERS KIA & THE MANUFACTURER OF KIA HAVE BEEN FRAUDULENT IN THEIR BUSINESS WITH ALL THE 2013 KIA RIOS REAR WINDSHIELD DESIGN HAS A DEFECT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE BUILD OF THE VEHICLE, THE BACK WINDSHIELD IS BUILT TO HIGH & IT CAUSES AN OBSTRUCTION TO DRIVERS VISIBILITY. IN 2007, THE DOT PROPOSED A NEW SAFETY REGULATION TO HELP ELIMINATE BLIND ZONES BEHIND VEHICLES THAT CAN HIDE THE PRESENCE OF INDIVIDUALS. THE PROPOSED RULE WAS REQUIRED BY CONGRESS AS PART OF THE CAMERON GULBRANSEN KIDS TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ACT OF 2007. IN ADDITION, ISSUED BY THE (NHTSA), WOULD EXPAND THE REQUIRED FIELD OF VIEW FOR ALL CARS. THE KIA MANUFACTURERS DESIGN OF THE BACK WINDSHIELD OF THE 2013 KIA RIOS ARE NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE SAFETY REGULATION SET BY NEITHER THE DOT NOR THE PROPOSAL ISSUED BY THE NHTSA NOR THE STANDARDS FOR SAFE DRIVING THAT ARE SET BY THE DPS FOR DRIVERS. LISTED BELOW ARE SAFETY MEASURES THAT THE HANDBOOK INCLUDES FOR DRIVING, BOTH MIRRORS & WINDOWS ARE NEEDED. 1.BACKING UP OR REVERSE 2.BLIND ZONES OR BLIND SPOTS 3.TAILGATING THE 2013 KIA RIOS DESIGN OF THE BACK WINDSHIELD COULD TAKE A LIFE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT CAUSES AN OBSTRUCTION TO A DRIVERS SIGHT. VIOLATIONS BELOW THAT THEY HAVE COMMITTED UNDER DOT. PART 579 THIS REGULATION ALLOCATES BETWEEN MOTOR VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS THE RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE 1974 MOTOR VEHICLE AND SCHOOL BUS SAFETY AMENDMENTS FOR RECALLING AND REMEDYING DEFECTIVE MOTOR VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT OR MOTOR VEHICLES & EQUIPMENT NOT BUILT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAW. *TR

WHEN WE PULLED UP TO THE RED LIGHT, THE IDLE STOP AND GO SYSTEM ENGAGED AND STOPPED THE ENGINE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I RELEASED THE BRAKE AND, AS WE WERE ON A DOWNSLOPE, WE IMMEDIATELY BEGAN ROLLING INTO THE INTERSECTION. UNFORTUNATELY THE GO PART DIDN'T WORK AND THE ENGINE DIDN'T RESTART. THE LIGHT HAD TURNED RED AGAIN BEFORE I COULD FIGURE OUT THAT I HAD TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO RESTART IT WITH THE KEY. *TR
